Airbag light comes on intermittently.took vehicle to dealer 3 times, who stated unless light was on when vehicle was at dealer's they could do nothing.

I recently purchased this van from a and b auto sales in bellaire ohio. What i thought was the seatbelt light , turned out to be the air bag light.thelight has been on sense the day i bought the van and the dealership refuses to fix the problem. I was informed that this van never should of left the lot with that light on, it is considered a unsafe vechile and if i have an accident the airbags will not deploy. Dealership knew this and sold it to me anyway.

Airbag light is blinking on and off. Took vehicle to dealer and they replacedelectrical system going to airbag.problem has reoccurred. The air bag had been repaired eight times. Each time the dealer replaced different parts of the air bag, but the problem still exists.

I had to have my airbag replaced last year due to the airbag light coming on intermittently and the dealer announcing that it was a bad sensor.we did not argue with the dealer in that these are airbags and we did not want to risk our family.i am frustrated in that i have recently had a discussion with someone who owns the same make, model and year and has had this happen twice to her.i have reviewed the complaints on your site and can see that others have had the same issue.

At 35,000 my '99 olds burns 2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles! i just purchased the vehicle with a 60 day 100% engine and drive train coverage so the dealer is going to "fix" the problem. I have heard the gm 3.4 l engine is famous forpoor pistons in all years. This engine is already shot at 35k miles and i feel can't possibly be repaired adequately...it should be replaced but the dealer won't do it.

While driving 55 mph had a direct frontal impact, and driver/ passenger's air bags did not deploy which did not protect the occupants in this crash.please provide further information.

While driving at 50 mph consumer took the wrong road and ended up on a dead end road. Consumer slammed on the brakes to avoid crashing into the guard rail, but crashed into it anyway. Upon impact, none of the frontal air bags deployed. No injuries were reported due to the occupants being retrained in the seat belts.

While turning, another car ran a red light and hit consumer on passenger's side of vehicle.upon impact, rear door flew open, and airbags did not deploy. Consumer feels this is unsafe for anyone that may be riding in the back seat.

Vehicle was invoved in an accident with another vehicle tha t ran a stop sign in front of consumer's vehicle. Causing frontal and side impact at aprox 60-65 mph. All air bags, including side bags failed to deploy. Dealer/ manufacturer notified.

Consumerwas broadsided anddoor side airbags did not deploy. The entire family in the automobile was hurt.

Airbag light came on.tookvehicle to dealer, and dealerstatedthatboth driver's side and passenger's sideairbagswould not deploy. . dealer replaced both passenger's side and driviers side sensors.please provide any furtherinformation.

Whenvan was hit on the passenger's side between the two tires, there was no deployment of the passenger's side air bag. Van was being repaired.damages totaled $9,000.00.please provide any further information.

I was driving in town when a car pulled out of a parking spot right in front of me giving me two feet to stop at 25 mph. I stopped but my brakes blew. Total failure of two brakes. The engine. According to your complaints i might have a gasket to replace because i have a coolant light on and it doesn't need any. The repairman said i needed a new sensor. Hmmm. Electrical. Fuel gauge is inoperable. Coolant light wrong. Airbag lights can't make up their mind if they work or not. The car locks me out repeatedly. The power windows won't work..dangerous here with all the rivers and waterways. The sliding doors don't work. None of the power controls in the key fob work(yes, i checked the battery). Oh..and it has a indoor shower when it rains. Roof failure, fault in design.could you please tell me if past service bulletins i just found on your site still pertain? there are many for this vehicle and its issues. Please advise. Thank you.

Car won't start unless you wiggle the key in the ignition switch. Can die at any time while driving.

Left side brake / tail light melts.bulb base melts then causes an open short.bulb has been replaced several times.last 3 to 4 months before failure (melted base) and bulb replacement. It also causes the traction control system (tcs) to show an intermittent fault or be inoperative.

Just pulling out of the driveway when smoke started coming out of interior vents. Turned off van got out and flames started coming from under the hood. Total loss of vehicle and contents. No injuries sustained. Miles high but not actual, replaced motor with 80,000 mile motor when we bought the vehicle. Newer engine came from another olds silhouette that had a dash fire.

I have had this vehicle since 3/99.in which time i have had to bring it back for transmission problems, electrical problems, leaking fuel injectors, brakes, non working cruise control which led to the dealer replacing the compressor.front end leaked anti freeze which led to another major job.i am not a happy motorist here.the steering column squeeked.they greased it.turned out there was a problem with the rackinpinion.i know something about cars and i know that for the amount i pay for this vehicle, i shouldn't be having these major problems.bandade fixes don't cut it with me. My family and i were traveling when there was an explosionunder the front passenger seat. There were sparks and smoke and the smell of something burning. I lost control temporarily and then i pulled over and we all got out of the car.the instrument panel went haywire meaning that some lights went out while other lights came on.the "airbag" and "service engine soon" lights came on. The compass when out. I took the car in to be serviced.at that time i was informed of another car like ours was brought in for the same problem.i was later told(1 week) the computer told the satbelt retractor to explode. They claim to have fixed the problem however, i feel that the safety of my family eand i are in serious jeopardy if we continue to drive this car.

Brake light plug ins are melting and brake light will not work.

While vehicle was parked it caught on fire.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.the engine burntup due to an electrical fire.the vehicle was a total loss. *sc

Vehicle ran over a branch on the highway at approximately 45-50 mph on normal road condition which caused some wiring damage that resulted in loss of power. Dealer was notified, problems experienced with tires also, due to load of the vehicle..et.

Problem #1. Electrical harness failure resulted in repeated engine shutdowns without warning while vehicle was in motion.problem #2 resulted in sudden loss of electrical power to all interior and exterior lamps at night while car was traveling at about 30mph.

The engine. The coolant low light stays on even though it isn't.. Have had it checked. They said its all ok. Then i read these complaints. Why aren't they being held responsible for a defect!!!!! its their defect, not ours. We didn't sign up for $1200 in repairs or more!!! are you getting paid to sit there and just put these up here to appease us? no wonder this nation is going you know where in a basket. Lack of integrity. My brakes also both went out completely when someone gave me less than a foot to stop when they pulled out of a parking spot downtown. No accident but completely blew my brake.this alsoseems to be a common failure point in this so called vehicle. The engine does what it wants when it wants. It moans and shudders when it takes off..kind of like me when i get up in the morning. Could kill me though. Airbag light can't decide if it alive or not. One headlight is frosted.will cost $325.00 to fix it. Who has this money??!!that is half of my months income!!!!!!!!!are you crazy????? and no, there is no public transportation where i live. Seat belts don't work right.danger!!! body is rusting.doorlocks lock me out all the time. Window don't work.dangzer!!!! i live where there's lots of water.. Back wiper quit. Back lights quit. Fuel gauge quit..makes me want to quit. :( how can they get away with the major safety items..how????!!!!! please tell me. Ineed to know. This heap of junk needs to last me at least 20..yes twenty more years.:(

Coolant level low light came on.took it in for servicing and oil change.tech said the intake gasket was leaking and that the radiator was full of mud.took it to a gm dealer the next day and found the gaskets were leaking and that it would require at least 1 radiator flush, possibly 2.

I own a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette with 52,000 miles.i brought it to the local dealer because of a knocking noise on cold startup.diagnosed as a failed intake manifold gasket, cost to repair approx $900.00.on disassembly, dealer contacted me with information that the engine internals were so badly fouled (sludge and deposits) that the hydraulic lifters required replacement.i asked what could have caused this situation, since the van has always gotten regular oil changes every 3000 miles, with new filter and correct oil, and i don't know what to do differently to avoid this same problem again.no information or advice was offered on why the gasket failed, or why the engine was so badly fouled.

Consumer states that the head gaskets are leaking coolant onto the engine. The dealer has inspected the vehicle. The part is on national back order. Nlm *yd

Intake manifold gasket leaking on 1999 oldsmobile silhouette with 64,000 miles.$900 repair.apparently this is a common problem that gm will not accept any responsibility for a design defect.

Car went to dealer to diagnose a knocking sound on cold startup.diagnosed as a failed intake manifold gasket, cost to repair approx $900.00.on disassembly, dealer contacted me and stated that the engine internals were so badly fouled (sludge and deposits) that hydraulic lifters needed replacement, cost approx $450.00.i asked how this could have happened, van has always had engine oil changed at 3000 mile intervals, with new filter and correct oil, and i don't know what to do differently to avoid this happening again.no advice offered, and no suggestions for why the gasket had failed.

I own a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette with 64,000 miles.i took the van to a local dealer because of a knocking noise on cold startup.the dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed intake manifold gasket.the failed gasket ruined the hydraulic lifters and had to be replaced.the total bill was $1500. The van had regular maintenance(oil, filters, anitfreeze checked) every 3000 miles.this seems to be a common problem with gm vehicles and dexcool systems.this could have been a major safety issue had the engine failed while driving.

Leaking intake manifold gasket cause oil to be contaminated with coolant. Engine failed.

-the contact stated that she brought he 1999 oldsmobile silhouette to dealerin costa mesa, ca for an oil change.the dealer stated that the plug booths melted, and that the spark plugs, and plug wiresmelted as well, and the head gasket failing.the contact stated that this is a safety hazard since she never got any prior warning about the failures on her vehicle.

Leak in the defective intake manifold gasket , which has been diretly related to engine failure, which i now have with my 1999 olds silouette - cost to replace engine - $4,500 - having collant leak into the oil can not be good for any engine! gm will not own problem

Lower intake manifold gasket failure.this problem has also occured to a friend of mine who owns a 1999 olds silhouette.

Known problem with gm engine v6 3800,leaking antifreeze into engine.intake manifold gasket failure.

Intake manifold gasket failed allowing dexcool coolant into the engine and mix with the oil. Total engine failure. Manifold gasket replaced at 58,000 miles. Engine rebuilt at 62,000 miles. Apparently this is happening on thousands of gm vehicles and gm will not cover the cost. In no way should a 1999 van need a new engine.

Intake gasket leak - radiator full of "mud" at 72,000 miles.

Leaking and cracked lower intake manifold gaskets from coorosion at 30,777 miles.with radiator cracked.

Leaking intake manifold gasket cause engine failure

While driving noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Moved to side of road. Checked under the hood ,and noticed coolant was leaking onto the intake manifold. Took vehicle to dealership to check out leakage problem.

Vehicle started overheating on short trips to the store(1-2 miles). Thought the problem was the thermostat however when taken to mechanic found out that it was the intake manifold that has leaking and had to be replaced. I called oldsmobile ref to the problem to inquire about tsb # 030601010 or 030601010b and was told that there had never been a bulletin.

Coolant light appeared on the dashboard appeared and remained on.vehicle experiencedslight hesitation when consumer applied the accelerator pedal while driving. The temperature gauge registered hot. Consumer drove vehicle to dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the sensor light needed to be replaced.

Water pump failed, then radiator failed, now engine failed. All seem to be related to dex-cool.*la

While driving coolant light appeared on the dashboard and remained on untilvehicle was turned off.consumer tookvehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic replaced a sensor, but problem recurred.

While driving engine failed.vehicle was checked by dealer, who determined that coolantleaked into oil which causedthe failure.

The intake manifold cracked, which caused fluid to leak.

When driving at all the component's on the dashboard came on and won't go off, and the vehicle is running rough and shuts down.

An engine diagnosis revealed there was no oil pressure, a blown head gasket, and a leaking intake manifold gasket.

The intake manifold was cracked and leaked antifreeze.

Vehicle overheated on congested highway with no prior warning of any problem.manifold gasket failure at 45,000 miles.the vehicle was repaired at a cost of $831 with the possibility that the engine may seize at any time due to coolant/oil contmination.intake manifold gasket replaced with new gm design and new installation proceedure.i have retained the old parts.

Repeated intake manifold gasket leak / failure - had to replace twice in less than 100,000 miles - first time at just over 36,000 miles.never owned a car where i had to replace an intake manifold gasket once, let alone twice and virtually every car my family has owned has been maintained and driven over 100,000 miles. Searching the internet you see the gm 3.4 liter engine in 1999 era this is a common complaint/problem. Also the original oldsmobile dealer acknowledged it was a known issue with this engine. There is also a lawsuit www.dexcoolsettlement.com showing how prevalent this issue is - yet gm refuses to acknowledge it is a defect and take care of their customers and vehicle owners by repairing these vehicles and changing the gasket design. It was bad enough having to spend close to $500 to repair this on my oldsmobile with just over 36,000 miles on it, now i am told to pay close to $1,000 to have it replaced again! gm customer assistance insists there is no defect, there is nothing abnormal about this that requires any corrective action or "assistance" from gm. They further claim gm engineers have reviewed the incoming data to customer assistance and there is no problem / no trend with intake manifold gaskets on the 3.4 liter engine- that can not be the truth. This is not a normal wear item, an intake manifold gasket should last the life of the engine and if not, gm should stand behind their product and replace it for their customers.other customers with the same problem have had engine seizures and serious safety problems because they did not notice or catch the problem soon enough and coolant leaking into the oil caused engine seizure and/or overheating. Original problem was february 2003, problem has re-occurred october 2008 so clearly gm did nothing to change the gasket design and does not even stand behind their service / replacement parts.

During the summer, the low coolant light came on. The owner took the vehicle to the g.m. Dealer. The coolant was low and it was suggested that a pressure check be done for the radiator coolant. The manifold intake gasket failed causing the engine to over heat. Provide further details.............................

The "low coolant" light came on but there was no evidence of a leak.we finally discovered that the hot coolant was leaking onto the camshaft and into the engine through faulty lower intake manifold gaskets.the gasket was replaced at our expense but we do not know the damage or condition of the camshaft and engine bearings from coolant mixed with oil to lubricate.there remains a coolant odor we cannot identify.we later learned of gm service bulletin 03-06-01-010 dated march 2003 that identifies this problem but vehicle owners have not been alerted.there will be complete engine failure without early detection of problem and repair.

Consumer states that the head gaskets are leaking coolant onto the engine. The dealer has inspected the vehicle. The part is on national back order. Nlm *yd

While driving vehiclecoolant light illuminated, causing vehicle to shut down.consumer has notified dealership, mechanic stated head manifold gasket had to be replaced.

I own a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette with about 55,000 miles. I took the van to a local mechanic because of a knocking noise on cold startup and continual overheating. The mechanic diagnosed the problem as a failed intake manifold gasket. The total bill about $600. The van had regular maintenance. This seems to be a common problem with gm vehicles with the 3.4l engines.

Vehicles oil pump failed.oil discharged from the engine around the gasket.consumer was informed by mechanic that it was the relief valve on the oil pump which caused the oil to discharge, however consumer is not sure if the oil pump failre was related to the head gasket failure.*jg

Head gasket failure

The engine failed and had to be replaced within the first year of ownership.nlm

While driving at highway speedsvehicle hesiates/revs up and stalls unexpectedly which may cause a crash.please provide further information.

I own a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette with 65,000 miles. I took the van to a local dealer after antifreeze started leaking from the top of the engine.the problem was a failed intake manifold gasket. The failed gasket fouled the hydraulic lifters and had to be replaced. The total bill was $1255.same probelm happended to a relative's pontiac.this is all too common of a problem.gm should recall this model.this will be the last of 5 gm products i have owned.

Noticed leaks that have appeared under the car.leaks had a consistency of antifreeze and oil mixed.constantly topping off antifreeze and oil.intake manifold has been verified by mechanic to have leak resulting in a $600.00 dollar bill.*nlm

Oil leaking into the coolant system.problem was fixed by replacing the intake manifold gasket.resulted in replacing all coolant/heater system hoses and a large repair bill.the leaking intake manifold gasket seems to be a common problem.*la

Coolant is leaking on top of engine, resulting from failed lower intake manifold gasket.the gasket was replaced at 34,000 miles, now failing again at 88,000 miles.water pump was recently replaced.believe dex-cool antifreeze is at fault.

My 1999 oldsmobile silhouette only has 69,000 miles and has a leaking intake manifold gasket.it is obvious by the outraged community online that this is a problem with gm's design and a recall should be forced upon them. *la

Intake manifold gasket - no warning of any problems before finding myself stranded at a gas station due to my van overheating.

The intake manifold gasket failed. *nlm

Intake manifold coolant leak caused by defective gasket.related tsb mentions "new gasket design" implying that original design was defective. Oldsmobile refuses to offer any warranty coverage for failure, repair bill is $950.00 so far.seems to be a common problem with this model at this age. Very disappointed with gm's attitude of customer dissatisfaction.

While jacking the vehicle up the jack did not support the vehicle's weight and crashed to the ground.the owner confronted the dealership and the manufacturer but they both says the failure was not their problem.

I was backing out of my place at worship when a friend told me i had no backup lights. I went straight to the auto supply store. Replacing the bulbs did not work. They told me it had to do with the transmission. I went elsewhere. Same story. Went to the he transmission store. They said my transmission was going out and it would cost me $1897.00 to fix it. Two little bulbs. That was a year ago and i'm still driving it. I try to back into spaces so i don't have to back out. I went to the dealer and they said to replace the wiring assembly would cost more than the car is worth.and the seat belt clicks in but sometimes slips out if i stop quickly if someone cuts me off. Not good at all.the power train is erratic at best. I wonder if i'm going to make it home quite a lot and i am disabled. It shudders when it starts out, making it dangerous in tight driving situations(chicago).it slides or slips. I've been told time and time there's nothing wrong. But when you tell a car to go, it should go...its not supposed to act like a stubborn dumb mule!and the doors quit working as did the ac and it eats tires even though its aligned and balanced. I fixed the shower with 25 year silicone. I didn't need my hair washed while i drove. Its only 15 years old and has been taken care of and its a piece of junk. A very expensive piece of junk. Coolant low always stays on and it isn't. Gas gauge is always empty when you fill it and full if its empty. I tell how much gas i have by how many miles i've gone divided into how many gals of gas i purchased.keep the books or walk!!!!! garbage. Car!!!!!!!!!

Headlights allow moisture in, water collected in the headlamps, one failed, before i could get it fixed the other one failed, causing me to run off the road.

Consumerreplaced the bulb inside the headlights 10 times due to moisture getting inside, making it difficult to see the road at night. Vehicle will be taken to dealer for check up.

Problem #1. Electrical harness failure resulted in repeated engine shutdowns without warning while vehicle was in motion.problem #2 resulted in sudden loss of electrical power to all interior and exterior lamps at night while car was traveling at about 30mph.

Consumer experiencing ongoing problem with headlights and interior lightswhich go out intermittently.vehicle been in dealer shop on two occasions, and problem still occurs.

On my 1999 oldsmobile silloette the headlights (left & right) leak very bad. After driving in the rain i may have a inch of water in the bottom of my headlights. Because of this the heat & moisture have discollered the plastic lenses on the headlights now making it hard to se at night, and the bulb have to be replaced about every month or so. No accidents have been caused by this problem yet!

Both front headlight covers have clouded and become hazy due to sun exposure over time. I am concerned that this problem is causing limited visibility especially at night. In my opinion this problem will cause the headlights to be dimmer than what is considered a safe level of brightness.

Dt: the contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette.the tail lights malfunctioned.has two vehicles manufactured by gm , the other vehicle is a 1999 pontiac montana. The tail lights failed and will not work anymore. She has to turn the emergency lights onto let people know when shetrying to stop. She has heard about several other 1999 -2000 models that have similar problems with the tail light assembly. These vehicles are used as taxi vehicles .they have to be rightbecause they are hauling passengers. The pontiac was purchased two years ago, and it has been doing thisfor the last six months. The oldsmobile was purchased four monthsago and tail lightsmalfunctioned since purchasing it.

The vehicle smelled like gas, due to a crack in the fuel filter.

Inoperative fuel gauge

Add coolant light came on while driving on the interstate.pulled over at exit and added coolant.coolant did not stay in the reservoir and had to be added regularly.small areas of coolant were noticed under the vehicle where it was parked in the driveway.vehicle was taken in to be checked at local garage and mechanic found leaking intake manifold.the intake manifold area was inspected and the leaking gasket was found and replaced.the gasket appeared to have deteriorated in a way that would not be expected.the mechanic was asked if there had been a service bulletin about this problem.he said that there was not one, though he was well aware of this problem in many gm vehicles that used that particular gasket between certain years.i believe 1996-1999 were the years mentioned.

Consumer advised that the lower intake manifold gasket continously leaks.had current gasket replaced at 59k miles and gasket is now leaking.the dealer advised problem may be due to gasket's current torque specification, but can not torque any tighter or will break manifold.ts

Dt:1999 oldsmobile silhouette. On august 11, 2005 the consumer was smelling gas; he looked under the vehicle and saw that the fuel lines were rusted.the mechanic at the dealership stated the fuel lines crumbled in his hands.all of the metal fuel lines for the vehicle had to be replaced.the smell was the only indicator. He checked under the hood first then crawled under the car and saw it was leaking gas.

Consumer stated the intake gasket that fits around fuel injection is failing due to leaking. Took to dealer and dealer indicated can't get parts and general motors has failed to produce this part.

Consumer experiencing ongoing problem with headlights and interior lightswhich go out intermittently.vehicle been in dealer shop on two occasions, and problem still occurs.

Power doors would unlockby themselves while driving;2.) inside courtesy lights would come on momentarily andintermittently while driving, and 3.) driver's side and rear power windows would not operate properly.dealer was notified, and repairs was made.

While driving, the passenger side electronic sliding door begun to chime and open.the dealer made several attempts to repair the door, but there hasn't been a remedy.*scc *nlm

Consumer complained about anautomatic sliding door problem.a recall was issued in 2001, but the parts needed for repair were inferior, and the door still did not work.*mr

The power sliding door opened by itself while driving prior to recall notice 01v-067 and when closing it doesn't always stay shut, the door appears to be shut but as the consumer walks away the door reopens, on one occasion a child fell out of the car trying to shut the door as the driver pulled over to the shoulder, sustained bumps and bruises.nlm

Sliding power door will open by itself in occasions and now it doesn't work automatically states is the module and replacement cost quoted at $1412.00.*la

Prior to any knowledge of recall notification, consumer noticed that the door of the van was stuck halfway open, vehicle was towed to dealership and consumer was informed that it would cost $1,414.14 to fix or they could remove the mechanism for $189.00 and the door would operate manually, consumer is requesting reimbursement stating that the dealership was aware of this recall and did not fix the vehicle accordingly which should have been at no charge.

While turning, another car ran a red light and hit consumer on passenger's side of vehicle.upon impact, rear door flew open, and airbags did not deploy. Consumer feels this is unsafe for anyone that may be riding in the back seat.

The vehicle's sliding door does not open by remote control or by the buttons on the door, it has to be opened manually, consumer wants to be sure this problem is not related to recall 01v067.

Dt: the consumer stated that the sliding door on1999 oldsmobile silhoutte opened while driving and ripped the tire and the rim. The back fender was damaged, and the rear bumper was bent outwards. The paint was also damaged in the areas that the door hit. Door opened several times before by itself. The owner had a hard time closing the door, which was checked before.ownerreturned it to the dealer where she bought vehicle.but they could not find any problems with the door.dealership suggested that the owner bring the van back when the door was opening. The van has not been returned since. Owner left the door alone, and did not have the door checked again. The door sometimes will not open .owner made children get in to vehicle on the other side when the door would not open. This is was a problem for about 4 months.the owner had the vehicle towed to a dealership for repairs after the door came open and caused damage to the van.

The contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette. The right passenger sliding door would automatically open partially, and then close.if a passenger attempts to enter the vehicle, he or she may be seriously injured.the vehicle was repaired according to recall numbers 01v264000 & 04v597000 ( latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch). The manufacturer would not assume responsibility for the failures.the dealer stated that to identify the cause of the failure she would have to pay a diagnostics fee of $125.00. The current mileage was 112,326. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

The motor for the power sliding door broke with about 48,000 miles on the vehicle. I took it to 2 different gm dealers and was told by both service shops that it would be over $1200 for the repair an that it would not be worth repairing because they all break. Even the new ones break.i was told that a recall would be coming out because of all the problems.

Passenger side power door does not stay closed.the power door closes with switch, but immediately reopens as though it bumped something.i takes almost an hour to get the power door to stay closed and that is with having to manhandle the door shut and locking the side door and disabling the power to the door.

Could not engage drive gear but would engage in 1st and 2nd gear and reverse.

The vehicle did not move when the driver stepped on the accelerator, it shuttered. Thevehicle was taken to the dealer, who indicated that it was a known problem.it involved thepressure control solenoid valve assembly which needed immediate attention.there were two close calls while trying to accelerate from a stop to get into a merge lane in heavy traffic.another incident occurred while going uphill when attempting to quickly accelerate, the vehicle shuttered and drifted backwards into another vehicle then suddenly shot forward. *sc

The contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette. While the vehicle was parked the contact attempted to shift into drive gear and it failed to move from park to drive. The contact was able to place shift cable back in place and shift into drive. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated the automatic trans axle range selector cable assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 154,430.

After a few hours of highway driving, i pulled into my driveway and went into the house for about an hour.i came out later and drove to the store, and as i was pulling away from a traffic signal, the shifting of gears (auto-trans) was very forceful, bucking the van, like it was having trouble shifting.the first dealership (paul brothers) tried to explain that the fluid level was low by 1 quart, so they filled it.the problem continued off and on until i finally took it into a different dealership (koons - manassas), and they found that the problem was a bad pressure control selenoid, which they replaced.my concern is that not only may i have lessened the life expectancy of the vehicle due to the misdiagnosis, i also am concerned about a possible problem on other silhouettes in the 15k-20k range of this happening to them as well.possible recall issue for safety reasons.

Automatic sliding door closed on its own. Also, automatic reverse mechanismdid not work.owner was pinned in door and injuredwhen putting child in safety seat.the van is being looked over by dealership.

Transmission totally failed at about 45,000 miles.car was being driven up a small hill and it sounded like the transmission fell out.was unable to go more than 20 mph to drive to safety.dealer had vehicle for 1 week.transmission was totally overhauled.at the time, a mechanic at the dealer mentioned that gm was aware that this model and year silhouette had a history of this type of problem.that repair was over $1,000.car again had the problem at 75,000 miles - conveniently when the warranty ran out but despite numerous attempts, the dealer could not replicate the problem.the car will run fine for about 25 miles and then transmission will begin to whine and will jerk when shifting up through the gears.when the car is parked the problem will then not return until the car is driven again for some time.

Automatic transmission malfunctions, causing a knocking noise everytime the occupant changes gears and may cause loss of vehicle control.please provide further information.

Vehicle will roll backwards without stopping when in drive on a upward incline.the tourque converter does not stop the car from rolling back.this is very dangerous in traffic.the dealer and manufacturer stated that this is normal and cannot be repaired.i do not agree with this.a van should not roll back 20 feet whiletransmission is in drive.

Automatic tranmission would experience a shifting problem in the first two low gears, causingvehicle to jerk and a noise would appear intermittently. Dealer was notified on several occasions, and they were unable to duplicate problem. Feelfree to provide any further details on this matter.

My 1999 olds silhouette van has experienced a second transmission failure.the first with 35k miles, and the second one 27k miles later.i have researched numerous other complaints with this same type of gm transmission indicating transmission failures.this is unacceptable.gm is trying to pass it off as an unusual misfortune on my behalf.further investigation into these failures is needed for the consumer safety and vehicle reliability.i should not be having to put a third transmission into a 4 year old vehicle. *nlm

Went up an incline and stopped, in the time it takes to move foot from brake to gas pedal, at the top of a hill, the vehicle begins to roll backwards when in drive gear. The vehicle stalled while in drive rolling backwards downthe hill. *mjs

Transmission design does not prevent vehicle from rolling backward while in drive gear, resulting in vehicle stalling. Mjs

After reading the other complaints on power train, auto transmission i noticed all the same issues.we too experienced heavy jerking over the last two years at intermittent times and reported to the dealer who could not repeat the occurrence and took no action.dreher holloway.at 48,000 miles, the transmission failed and the dealer closest to the incident, merrimack street garage, recommended replacement, not repair. Rental car and repair, almost $4000. Gm is not covering the cost or admitting any ownership of the problem.dreher holloway is no longer an olds dealer.they did a "30,000 mile gm service plus service on the transmission, that provides extended trouble free service". That was $400 wasted.is this acceptable performance?*nlm

Hard shiftingon multiple occurrences.seems associated with rapid speed changes. After turning car off andwaiting a few seconds, the problem goes away.

Our seatbelt has not worked since we drove off the lot with our "new" vehicle. This poses a threat because we have five children, which means one child will not be strapped in during each ride. We have been to three different dealerships over the past three years and each report on all 16 visits that the seatbelt was replaced, however, it has not worked since day one. Gm customer service was contacted as well as the dmv, and attorney general. This is my only vehicle and i need satisfaction! i feel like the dealerships won't fix this problem until my extended warranty is expired! how long does it take to fix a seatbelt????

Consumer stated that once child safety seat was installed seat belt retracted, allowing the child safety seat to be removed. When trying to reinstall the child safety seat the seat belt remained locked, making it impossibleto reinstall the child safety seat once it had been removed.

The seat belt for the right side 2nd row passenger seat kep tightening up on the passenger leading to releasing it for comfort. Eventually the seat belt locked up. Had it replaced twice, but the same problem kep recurring after a few days of use. The dealer now refuses to honor the warranty to replace the defective seat belt.

Consumerhad experienced problems with seat belts ondriver and passenger seats, especially one behind passenger. Seat belt will adjust and tigh up on passenger.passenger has to realeaseseat belt due topressure on body.

When getting into the vehicle shoulder seat belt comes across consumer wife's neck, causing possible safety hazard. Consumer showed the dealerand they contacted factory, said that nothing could be done. .et.

Thank you.

Brake light plug ins are melting and brake light will not work.

Left brake keeps going out. Upon replacing notice that the contacts are getting covered up by melting plastic. I have replaced the bulb numerous time and even replaced the circuit board. Still the bulbs keep melting. This has started in mid june of 2008. I am at the point now of driving without a left rear brake light.

Total brake failure without a warning while trying to park. This caused vehicle to go over a curb and run into bushes.

In a parking lot while slowing to a stop with my foot on brake, car suddenly accelerated, jumped parking curb and continued forward for approximately 30 ft. The door will close to the latch position, does not latch, reopens to complete open position.frequently, after several attempts, it will latch if pressure is applied to the door as it closes to the latch position.the first complaint to the dealer's service department was fruitless because the condition "could not be duplicated" while at the shop, although it had failed in the presence of the service writer and on the first attempt to close it.on the third visit, the service department manager located a technical service bulletin.the service writer said a replacement part needed to bo ordered and i would be contacted for repairs.they replaced/repaired the defective part.however, the door is now malfunctioning again.a week ago, 1 sep, it failed, and yesterday, 7 sep, it again failed three consecutive times.pertinent info: bulletin sequence nr: 310; date: 9812; nhsta item nr: sb603083.

The actuator was replaced, due to a recall on that part, but the service manager at the dealership told me the actuator motor now needed replacing, which was not part of the recall, and would cost me $1,100 for the part alone.

I am in army & while driving to work one morning at 5:30 am my van slowly started accelerating the more i pressed the brake the faster the van went, by the time i reached the street the van was up to 50 mph i was afraid so i call my husband, told him the situation & the street i was traveling, he was on the way. By then i was up to 60-65 mph, i called 911 stated the situation, asking for help & to have someone on the phone just in case. I almost hit a bus, looking ahead a few blocks i saw back-to-back traffic starting to build-up, i did not want to hurt myself or anyone else, then going 65-70 mph i looked over and saw a park i turned the van into the park & to stop it i decided to crash the van into a tree. I turned toward the tree and jumped out; the van crushed into the side of the tree & continued to keep going. I ran after it as i saw the van jump the curb and going 70mph towards the row of homes across the street crushed into a tree head on. The van engine after all that continued to roar as if trying to keep going. I flagged down a van and recalled the police to let them know where the van had stopped. When the fire department came & turned the van off i was told the van had been on fire it was trying to stop itself but was being over powered, the tow guy came & towed the van away. This is a blessing know one was hurt, but something needs to be done about this, & for the auto company not to investigate is a tragedy. What are they saying numerous people will have to die, before they will admit there maybe a problem? just to save money if that is the case shame on them? i am here by grace, but i can't help but think of those possibly in the same situation but not alive to tell their story. If this is what is happening god bless the roads we drive on that the next person might think to do what i did. Thank you for letting me posts my story.

The accelerator cable snapped while pulling out of a stop sign in heavy traffic leading to loss of throttle control. This almost led to the car getting rear ended. Quick thinking by my wife who was driving, enabled her to get into the left turn lane, cut across incoming traffic and then drive over the curb and into a vacant lot to avoid being stuck in the middle of the road during rush hour. This damaged the front wheels, scraped the undercarriage area and knocked the front wheels out of alignment. The cable needs to be replaced. It appears this may be a potential design defect since the cable may be rubbing against the housing as it exits the firewall and connects to the pedal linkage. The cable was frayed suggesting it was rubbing against something.

While driving 45 mph throttle cable broke which resulted in vehicle unexpectedly accelerating. To gain control ofvehicle driver completely shut vehicle down. Consumer adds that the original cable was routed incorrectly.photos attached.
