While driving 30 mph and without a collision occurring, driver's and passenger's air bags deployed. Dealer cannot determine the cause.

Was in an accident on a gravel road. Quick 90 degree turn in road in familiar road, no signs warning of turn were posted. Braked for turn. Due to gravel vehicle slid. Went off on left side area (tree line) next to road. Hit tree on front passenger's side right next to center. Air bags did not deploy. Concerned on whether this is due to manufacture defect or used car dealer negligence.

Consumer's vehicle struck a dirt pile at 30 mph and the air bags did not deploy.

While braking the headlights flickered.*nlm

When driving my 1999 oldsmobile intrigue at approximately 45mph i hit a very large pot hole in the street.it jarred the vehicle and switched the ignition in my vehicle off.i lost power in the vehicle and my ability to properly steer the vehicle.i was thankfully in a lane where i was able to pull the vehicle over without issue (power steering was not available and the wheel was almost locked and it required a lot of pulling to be able to pull over) and restart the car.i did have a large/heavy key ring on my keys at that time.

While driving on icy or slippery roads, thelow tracking indicator came on soon after the vehiclelost power. The consumer had to shift the vehicle into park to restart it.*sc

2009 oldsmobile intrigue. Consumer writes in regards to ignition switch issue.ldthe consumer was not able to start the vehicle.the consumer has since sold the vehicle.

Car will not start, not turn over or anything.security light will come on while driving.never know when the car will start.have been towed to mechanic 3 times in 72 hrs.he has checked all connections and all are good.he can find nothing wrong.will start a few times then nothing.mechanic has put on his code reader and nothing comes up.car will just turn off whenever.have read many forums and tons of people are having this same problem

I'd been noticing that my car would quit at random times a little over a year ago, at first once every month or three, then gradually worked up to maybe once or twice a week.when i received the recall notice and took my key off my key ring.i had no further quitting incidents until i took my car in to the dealer october 31st.they did their thing with my key, and my car quit ten minutes later, on the way to an urgent appointment.i got it started again, then it quit again a couple of blocks down the road.i finally made it to my appointment, 5 minutes late.i put aside the "new" key, used a spare from then on, and the car seemed fine over the weekend.but on monday morning i drove to the gym to work out, and the car would not start when i finished my workout and i walked the rest of the way to work.it started fine that evening, then again this morning, but conked out half way to work again.i got it started again before it coasted to a stop, but this is getting ridiculous.i think the recall is a failure, and gm needs to do something much more than replacing the key head for it to be effective.if i wasn't a strong man, i could have had many serious accidents by now.

The car on intermittent basis, will not start. All systems check, good battery-starter-fuel pump primes up,but does not turn over. Give it 5-10 mins, then starts right up. Happens at least 3 times per week. This problem been on and off for last two years. Had car at dealer, said it was the starter-changed starter, still problem existed. Also security light illuminates as well.

3 months ago my electrical started going haywire. Turn signals, dash, lights, windows. Most occur while turning car on. It's hit and miss whether it starts. Battery drains sometimes no rhyme or reason. It starts without incident one day and then needs recharged the next. I've had multiple people tell me an aray of different possibilities, alternator, ignition switch, battery, worn down key, leaving something on etc. I believe the problem occurs because the key can come in and out while in any position. Because of this i believe the battery is being drained because people are unaware that they are removing the key while it is still in the acc or on position. This doesnt explain why various electrical components aren't working at full capacity all the time. I did notice that the hit and miss quality wasn't as severe once i removed all extras from the key after receiving the recall notice a week ago. I started to pay more attention to what was going on to see if perhaps the issue was related last sunday the battery seemed dead again and the car wouldn't start. I tried several times until i got things to light up but then the key slipped out while trying to start it. I slipped the key back in and now it won't turn to either the off or start positions. It remains in acc or on positions only. Even if i charged the battery i wouldn't be able to start it or turn the electrical accessories off to keep the battery from draining again. From what i can tell, the recall doesn't actually replace the ignition switch it only modifies the keys to keep the ignition switch from becoming faulty. What am i supposed to do since the problem has already occurred? even though the part that the recall was issued for caused my problem, will i have to pay out of pocket to fix the actual problem? who do i contact if they will fix the problem?

So much for investing in american-made vehicles.i, like over a dozen others who took the time to file a complaint, am experiencing the flicker and dim of all lighting during the evening hours - especially when the weather's colder.it is unnerving to me, and i'm sure to those drivers around me, to drive with questionable exterior lighting.and, as others have said, gm does not view this as a "safety issue".what say they have their spouse, or their child, drive a vehicle with this same "not a safety issue" and see if their view doesn't change?i work, and with daylight savings time, this means i am travelling home in the dark -- with my one-year-old and nine-year-old in the car with me.none of this matters to the folks at gm.because they can point to the age and mileage of the vehicle to get them off the hook, they are.the fact that they issued a "bulletin" regarding this issue in feb01 doesn't seem to matter.$650+labor for a new alternator may or may not resolve the issue, but that, apparently is my money to invest in a possible, but not guaranteed, solution.judging from the other filings here, it doesn't sound too promising, so i'm left with the debate of dump this money to *maybe* fix the problem or let it be until something bad happens?my car is too old and has too many miles for this to be considered something for which they, gm, will assume responsibility.i will never buy gm again.

All electric will not remain stable.ie. Lights flicker, radio volume up/down,heat & a/c fan varies by itself. Reported it the first week i bought the car april 29,1999 ( <10 miles on odeometer).dealer could not see anything. It still has same problem.continuous..

1999 oldsmobile intrigue gls.*mrwhen the consumer exited the freeway, he heard a mechanical noise which resulted in power steering lost for left turning only.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the rack and pinion was replaced.the vehicle experienced other problems such as engine stalling shortly after starting, the weather strip was deformed, a pulsating noise coming from the front end, however a road test only foundtire noise, the right rear window was inoperative, the coolant light illuminated, the fuel pressure regulator was replaced, the ignition switch was replaced, the fuel filter, battery and remote were replaced.the vehicle also experienced an oil leak.

I have a 1999 intrigue that periodically does not want to start, i have read so many forums about this problem and i believe gm should recall the cars and fix the problem.

The ignition switch -- which was replaced in 2012 with a new gm dealer part -- turns by itself to the acc setting while driving (engine cuts out and power steering loses power).i suspect that this is related to the gm ignition switch recall problem, but since this model is not on the recall list, i am encountering a challenge to get it repaired.please phone only -- not an e-mail user.

Blinkers have failed. At first, only the left side would work. Now, both sides have failed. The front and rear bulbs as well as the sockets are functional. The flasher module was replaced, but did not remedy the situation. The hazard flashers work normally, however. Right now, i have no way of alerting other drivers of my intentions. The only way i can signal is by sticking my arm out the wondow.

Engine shuts off while driving.

1999 oldsmobile intrigue.consumer writes in regards to vehicle ignition key recall notice.the consumer stated the ignition module and crank sensor were replaced several times. A recent problem developed, where the consumer was unable to turn the vehicle off. There were other times, when the vehicle would not start. Also, while driving, the headlights would come on and then go out. When the cruise control was set, it would disengage by itself and air only blew out of the right double vent and the left double vent blew out hot air.

Turn signal/hazard flashers.on occasion will not work period, or turn on with no blinking. Wiggling the hazard switch can bring back the flashing/flickering. Replaced part once for the same reason, was good for three months, but it came back again. The irony, the car has an no start/security light problem, but when i installed the new hazard flasher, i did not have the no start problem until the hazard switch failed again. Now it makes one wonder if the hazard switch plays a roll in the security/passkey no start scenario.secondly, i see the recall for the impala/malibu/ monte carlogrand am/ grand prix/alero. The security light and passlock issue, if tripped will cut fuel supply, i still hear the fuel pump priming, as passkey is not a starter kill, it is rather a fuel kill. I also replaced the starter/and ignition switch, and still this problem exists. Therefore, i have two issues, first the turn signal that dies out, until you wiggle the hazard switch might bring it back. And a second independent issue of the security light/no start issue.the security light can be on, and the vehicle will restart no problem, and times with no security light , and no start. I mean by no start, the car will not turn/crank period. General motors should be involved in this matter, these are defective parts, that are widespread and not just at random. General motors needs to act properly, and the nhtsa should follow up on this matter closely to find a proper repair rather than guessing what the problem is. Thank you

The contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile intrigue. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) exceeded a reasonable amount of time for repair. The dealer stated the parts were not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the delay. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.

Headlights flicker bright to dim. This happens nearly every time i drive at night. Seems to be worsein cold weather.

Turn signals are intermittent.sometimes they do not flash when the turn signal switch is activated. This applies to both left and right. This occurs randomly on different days, not just the single date i was forced to enter.

Speedometer, tempature gage on the opposite side. Car still over heats after extensive repairs. Cooling fans stays on while off. Potential fire because of oil compartment fire. Visible leak.

Engine and everything electrical stops instantly.everything shuts off. During restart the vehicle cranks longer (5-6 seconds) before starting and misses for 3-4 seconds.then runs strong as if nothing happened.some times turn signals will stop working after a restart and other times the turn signals will stop working whether the vehicle stalled or not.at higher speeds (45mph +) the vehicle will frequently shut off but instantly come back on.

The headlights would dimmed whiledriving on the highway.once the consumer had to pull over and stop because the lights had become so dim that she could not see the road.the headlights and interior lights displayed a flickering effect.this typically occurred up to five minutes, then stop and occurs again. *sc

Signal lights started causing problems approx. 5 years ago. Blowing bulbs, working some time but not all the time.bulb sockets overheating and melting.replaced front headlight assembly right and left.not the problem. Still have same problem. They will stop working, one side at the time and for no rational reason will start again as if a short in the electrical system. Running lights work part of time.we have replaced a ton of bulbs but to no avail.can someone on this earth please tell me where the switches are located in the electrical system so this vehicle can be repaired.so far, no luck in this effort.my car only has 330,000 miles plus and so far this is all that is wrong.

While traveling in cold weather, the headlights and dashboard lights kept dimming and returning to normal.

While driving, dash lights, headlights, and running lamps flicker off and on, possible electrical problem.

Power steering assist (rack/pinion-long shaft) unit second failure.the right rear weather strip was deformed, engine stalled shortly after starting, pulsating noise coming from the front end, tire noise, right rear window inoperative, clunking noise in the front end when turning, the battery light had come on for 20 minutes but the problem but was actually coolant light, the engine would crank but no start, the vehicle would run rough and dies, failed ignition switch, failed crankshaft sensor, remote was not working, lost power steering on a left turn and still had power on right turns, there was an oil leak, there was excessive wear of the intermediate steering shaft, and excessive play in the left front hub and bearing assembly. *sc

1999 oldsmobile intrigue: when driving in cold weather (below 40 degrees f), all lights dim and then brighten randomly, including headlights and dash lights. Sometimes headlights momentarily dim so much as to make driving temporarily unsafe. Problem has occurred every winter for several years. Gm dealer claims to know nothing about it, but some web sites say a replacement bosch alternator (approx. $450 plus installation) can cure the problem. This is a repeated annoyance that could cause a fatal crash.

The electrical system (headlights, interior lights, dash lights, fan and tail lights) all flicker on & off often making it hazardous driving.

Pass lock system started to not work sporadically. From then on it just got worse it would quit at times leaving you stranded for periods.

This car is an electrical nightmare. The intrigue seems to have so many of the same alero problems, but no resolution from gm regarding them.vehicle continually will: not start, start and then die, have the instrument cluster go haywire (all gauges drop to the bottom, then jump back up, lights coming on then going off - abs, check engine, service engine, etc)additionally - security (passlock) light will come on sometimes when the instrument cluster goes nuts, and then will stay on. This often leads to a no-start condition.if battery is disconnected for a few minutes, this will usually resolve the issue. Sometimes, when there's a no-start (no cranking) - turning the car to acc, and then moving the shifter through a couple gears, will resolve the issue. When there's a no-start (with cranking) - this can eventually be resolved by disconnecting the battery for a long time.the gauges going crazy while driving: often, when not actively pressing the accelerator, the gauges will drop to the bottom (empty gas tank light comes on, rpm, gas, and heat needles drop to zero; speed usually remains functional). When pressing the accelerator, they all pop back up to functional (only to drop again when there's no acceleration). The key - can be taken out of the ignition switch while the car is running, with no resistance.i have replaced: battery multiple times, battery cables once, the ignition switch & cylinder have been replaced at least once or twice by a mechanic trying to resolve the issue; wiring harnesses within the engine compartment and below the steering wheel have been replaced.

Car battery went dead in less than 30 days. Car stranded me several times..purchased car on nov 20, 1998,received letter from oldmobile dec 9,1998 advising of recall..called dealership to advise and i was advised to have car serviced locally as i didn't have to bring car back to winston salem for recall...took car locally to be repaired...car was kept for approximately 9 days, i was never offered a rental car while my car was being serviced and i had warrantiy coverage which no one seem to recognize... I took my mom to the bank in the car and the car went dead.. I had to call serviceman out to get my vehicle started.. I called flow motors and advised.. I was advised by service mgr at the time, jim benning to run the car to build battery back up... The next occassion my husband and i took car out, stopped at local run in, car went dead again... Again we had to call for assistance in getting car cranked... At this point i carried car back to dealership,,service looked at vehicle and found battery was defectiveand battery was replaced... At present i noticed a snap crackle pop under the hood on left side each time i turned my car to the left, my ant lock, brakes and trac light were coming on at will while driving on open road.. My window on driver side would stick at will and etc...i have not had a pleasant experience with the purchase of my new car which had approximately 18 miles on it when purchased.

Consumer attempted to start the vehicle, however it would not start and it could not be jump started, dealer found the battery had been leaking for some time, causing damage to the main supply cable.

The headlights dim and/or flicker. The engine power decreases when it happens. The alternator was replaced at 32,00 miles. The problem occurs intermittently.there is no particular pattern related to weather or driving conditions.

My 1999 oldsmobile intrigue has an ongoing problem with all interior lights that operate when the headlights are on.the headlights as well as the dash lights, dome light, trunk light, etc all flicker/dim dramatically andintermittently and at the same time whenever they feel like it.it has been attempted to be repaired 5 times by the dealer, and is now at the oldsmobile tech assistance level.parts such as the dealer module and the alternator have been replaced to no avail.olds is saying that there is an existing tac case #3668071 for other 1999 intrigues experiencing the similar problem across the us, but no fix is available.all the while, i am being told to drive the car and be patient.i am concerned about driving at night as these lights may someday just not flicker, but totally go out!olds has not offered any info other than that they are working on this at the engineering level, and that they suspect it is a computer problem that needs a software fix.i am just upset that i spent thousands of dollars on something that i feel is potentially very unsafe!and getting worse.any assistance rendered would be greatly appreciated!

During cold weather headlights frequently flicker and dim to the point where driving in the dark is unsafe.the problem began shortly after purchasing the vehicle in jan 2000.we took the car to the nearest oldsmobile dealer.they said at that time it was a known problem and they would try replacing different things to fix it with the last being the alternator.by the time the alternator was replaced, it was spring and the weather was warmer and we thought the car was fixed.in october, when the weather got cold again, the problem was back.we again took the car to the dealership where we were informed there was nothing more they could do because the problem was in the vehicle design.they suggested we contact oldsmobile directly.oldsmobile has also admitted the problem is in the vehicle design and say they are having engineers design a new alternator.they said we shouldn't be concerned because the problem is not a safety issue.we believe driving down the road and trying to see with your headlights flickering and dimming is a safety issue for both us and on coming vehicles.the dealership and oldsmobile said they have several cars with the same problem.we were told to expect a fix by mid november which has not happened.oldsmobile also confirmed we had our car in 8 times for this same problem.how long should we have to wait for them to provide a solution?

While driving another vehicle cut in front of consumer's vehicle applied pressure on horn and there was no communication. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified; however, defect has not been resolved.

I do not have a fax, but program would not let me continue unless i lied.the car was a demo.it was delivered with 4920 miles on the odometer, but horn was non-functional.it has failed about twelve times since and is currently in the shop with a horn failure.the dealer is baffled.do you haveother intrigues with this problem?ihope that you will excuse our not having afax and allow us to report.why is the horn not included in the list of safety related equipment?it seems that a horn is necessary to avoid an accident.iunderstand that law enforcement will issue a citation for a non-functioning horn.

Horn is very hard to use and does not sound unless hit very hard - so it misses its purpose as a warning device.

After driving for a while it's hard to find the horn. Consumer feels thatits a design flaw.if someone steps off the payment and driver can't blow the horn, that's unsafe. Manufacturer contacted, but no response. *ml

In emergency situations horn is very hard to press because of its location which causes the horn to be inoperative.also, there is a reflection on the dashboard which impairs the instrument panel view to the driver.when driving into the sunlight the vision impairment is a safety hazard.

Dealer unable to keep horn working.

On the morning of july 5 2008, my daughter was driving the car in the description above she was a mile from home when she ran off of the edge of the road and when she tried to pull her car back onto the highway she could not control it, the car went off and crash into a deep ditch and hit a tree. She was badly injured but the passenger in the car was kill from a head injured. I know that the national highway traffic safety personal came out and investigater the scene, we never find out what cause the car to have no control, so now that there is a recall for this car because of the key turning in the ignition and fall out, i need to know if or what i can do to see if this is what cause her to crash. We no long have this vehicle but i am hoping that there is a way to find out and do something about this.after the crash her keys was in the floor in the vehicle. Is there some way to find out the report that highway traffic safety filed..updated 10/02/14

Check engine light illuminated and vehicle had stalled and would not start, dealer stated the problem was with emissions and that the gas cap wasn't tight enough, vehicle was taken to dealer again and the crankcase sensor was replaced, however when consumer went to start vehicle it would not start, possible ignition or engine problem.

Vehicle engine shuts off on speeds anywhere from 30-65 mph while driving.have taken vehicle to repair shop but unable to duplicate...the following information is a very likely possibility however unable to determine since car has been destroyed.**************will provide vin number when i can locate it*********

This vehicle turned off while driving 15-20mph.this happened twice, both on hot summer days.each time i was changing lanes, turning to the right when the car shut off.this leaves you with no control in the middle of traffic.once you get the car out of the way and wait a 1-2 minutes the car will start up on the first or second try.this car also refuses to start about 3-5 times per week.you turn the key and get nothing.or you turn the key and get radio and air but nothing else.sometime it can take 10-15 tries before the car will actually start.dealer has been "unable to duplicate the problem" and has said that there are "no codes stored in the computer".

Gm sent me a recall notice for the infamous ignition switch defect.the cheap remedy that they propose, which is to provide the owner with a keyring the restricts adding additional keys to the keychain, imposes an additional burden on the car owner beyond what was required when the owner purchased the car. The remedy provided by gm is entirely unacceptable.instead, gm should replace the ignition cylinder as they are doing in newer cars.alternatively, gm should buy the cars back at its current kelly blue book value.

Our ignition went out on our car, we paid $193.58 in parts and $200 in labor and then it was involved in recall 14350 and they won't reimburse us.

Fading/dimming of interior lights and exterior lights, failed power window, 4 fuel injector failures.

Oldsmobile intrigue 1999randomly the security light will come on and sometimes the car will not start for exactly 10 minutes.it has become very annoying because it has caused me to be late for several engagements.i have taken the car to the local gm dealer multiple times while under warranty and each time they claim they replaced the "broken part", but still after a couple of months it comes back and once again it won't start.

Car failed to start after noticing security light on, had to wait 10-15 min before starting again.

Passlock (anti theft device) locks up and you can't start your car

Passlock system failure, car will not start, key 'chip' fading.

Vehicle engine shuts off at speeds between 35-65 mph resulting in loss of steering capabilities. Which is a possible cause of accident on 7/5/03 that resulted in death and injury.*la

Our car has stalled and failed to restart on numerous occasions, while driving and when beginning to go somewhere. All of the indicator lights come on and blink on and off and act crazy and after trying to restart 10 or so times it will finally kick in. We took the car to the dealership thinking it might be a fuel filter/injection problem. The dealership called us and said it was probably a comupter problem, that the computer was showing numerous "codes". The new computer was installed and now we are told it is showing different "codes" and we have been advised to replace the ignition switch and crank sensor. The dealership tells us that this may or may not fix the problem and that they need to know how far to go with it. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

The car would not start.after several attempts the security light came on indicating a problem with the passlock system.i kept trying and the car finally started.i brought the car to a mechanic who told me the ignition switch needed to be replaced.i was told this was a very common problem with gms and gm knows about it.the switch was $185.00 and with labor the bill came to $350.00.the oldsmobile dealer said this was such a common problem with these cars that they keep many switches in stock.

The vehicle anti-theft system was on.the consumer could not start the vehicle.the dealership repaired the problem once, but did not resolve the problem.this was an intermittent problem. *sc

Consumer was driving at approximately 10 mph, noticed smoke coming from underneath hood, pulled over, and within minutes, flames had engulfed vehicle. Total loss. Cause is unknown.

Head lights/instrument lights/tails lights and heater fan would intermittently flicker up and down.vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on six occasions, andunable to correct the problem.

The power wires feeding the heater/air conditioner fan motor burned. The unit was functioning normally for the life of the car. They were never damaged, or corroded. The area burned was external to the fan and had considerable combustibles surrounding it. There was no apparent service bulletin at this time.

While driving at 40 mph all electrical components went out. Dashboard lights went blank, and speedometer began winding forward and backwards.windows began to roll up and down, while the headlights began to blink off and on. Dealer checked the problem but couldn't find the cause.

Speedometer, tempature gage on the opposite side. Car still over heats after extensive repairs. Cooling fans stays on while off. Potential fire because of oil compartment fire. Visible leak.

We taken to have the car fixed the engine light want stay out it keep coming back on what is wrong with my car.when running and when idling for e check.it want pass inspection

The contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile intrigue. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise that progressed, which sounded like a knocking associated with the engine assembly rods. While driving an unknown rate of speed, the vehicle failed to move. A local mechanic diagnosed that a rod fractured and water and oil leaked into the engine, which caused a catastrophic engine failure without warning. The vehicle was was unable to be driven and was parked at the mechanic's repair shop. My 1999 oldsmobile intrigue is suffering from the same pre-existing issues as other oldsmobile intrigue's. Such as the engine and engine cooling, the exterior lighting and electrical system. I have looked on www.safercar.gov and called 18004249393 and my oldsmobile consultant 1800442653. As the only thing said is that my vehicle was not effected. Three times in the last two weeks, vehicle has stalled and the motor has cut off while driving in traffic. It happens when i let up on the accelerator prior to a turn in city traffic.this problem occurred previously, just after i bought the car in 1999 and it was repaired under warranty (crank sensor).it happened again a couple years ago when traction was lost on ice and repaired at my expense. On sat, may 9, i drove my vehicle to work and parked in the business parking lot, turned off the ignition, left the vehicle to go inside and check on my employees.. Approximately 10 minutes later a co-worker notified me that smoke was coming from my vehicle. Upon opening the hood i noticed a fire burning from the manifold into the engine cover and spark plug wires. Several attempts were made to extinguish the fire and get my dog out of the vehicle. The fire was eventually extinguished with a fire extinguisher. There was a strong oil smell. Check engine lights coming on consistently. There has always been trouble with this since i bought the car. Dealer would say it was never the same code. After the second year of this, i purchased a good electronic diagnostic code reader and the service manual for the car. (the same 3 books that the dealer uses). Most codes were the same and almost always there were multiple codes at one time. In 2004 the car was in the dealer 17 times for the check engine light. Most of the time it had multiple codes, with the same numbers coming up. They replaced everything that had to do with the code(it was still under the extended warranty i paid extra for) but the light came on within 1 day of getting it back. It took them 5 days to inspect the car because they could not get the light to stay off long enough to pass the emission part. The light came back on with the same codes before i left the dealership. The warranty ended a week after they inspected it (100,000 miles). My car has been sitting in my drive ever since the yearly inspection expiredbecause the light will not go out and i don't have the money for them to replace something that probably has been replaced numerous times already. The car has probably got a short somewhere or the computer has messed up again. I still have all service records showing everything i've said. The only thing the dealer did, was waste time and charge oldsmobile $$$$$ until the warranty was up . They never fixed the car, they had it more than i did in 2004. I see exactly why oldsmobile is gone, but did they have to steal everybody's money by selling us garbage and not standing behind their product. I know olds is gone but......general motorsis still here. I will noteverbuy a gm product because of this.andmy brother-in-law works for gm. 1999 oldsmobile intrigue.consumer writes in regards to vehicle ignition key recall notice.the consumer stated the ignition module and crank sensor were replaced several times. The engine will die going down the road at any speed, which is a safty hazard. When engine dies... It is very hard too steer and looses braking power. The engine then may not restart for several min.takes several attempps to get going again.if a person had to get to a hospital on time it could make the differance between life or death. We feel this should be fixed by gm...free...and soon!!!thanks john & dawn

Thank you

My 1999 oldsmobile intrigue is suffering from the same pre-existing issues as other oldsmobile intrigue's. Such as the engine and engine cooling, the exterior lighting and electrical system.

The computer-controlled exterior lighting system does not allow the headlights to be selected "off" when it senses darkness.this presents several problems.among them are blinding deck personnel when embarking/debarking ferryboats, creating security concerns when entering/leaving military bases, and the perception of a head-on collision threat by other drivers when vehicles are on the "wrong" shoulder of a road at night (picking up mail, etc.).it is also an extreme annoyance at drive-in movies.in some situations, it could provoke a "road-rage" response from other drivers, resulting in potential fatalities.i believe that this is a classic case of automation that's "run amuk".it is the result of engineers/computer geeks who are allowed to operate without adult supervision.automation is fine, but it must always have manual over-rides.the intrigue's designers arrogantly (and incorrectly) decided that they know what's best for drivers.fwiw, i am not a technophobe.our home has 5 pc's that are used regularly, plus a few others.i am an airline pilot, flying the boeing 757/767, which is equipped with a sophisticated flight management system.i am the air line pilots association's "national expert" on flight management systems, representing them in national safety forums.i am a staunch advocate of using the appropriate level of technology.oldsmobile designers did not use an appropriate level of technology.their arrogance and stupidity is appalling.i ask that the nhtsa direct gm to issue a recall of all affected automobiles, replacing the current exterior lighting system with one that allows manual over-rides of all automation modes.

Headlights flicker to dim; then, they go to bright and back to dim.also, all window motors have been replaced.

Ref: 010603001, 010603001a, nhtsa action number: pe02005, nhtsa item number: 619178.1999 oldsmobile intrique, with dimming headlights.this is a constantly occuring problem.i have had it back to the dealer multiple times with no resolution.they say gm has no solution. This is a major safety issue.many times i have been driving at night on the interstate and small country highways when the lights would flicker and almost go completely out.nothing like driving 70 mph in bad weather with no lights!!!the headlights dim equal to candlelight.these episodes happen intermittently, mostly during cold weather, but not always.each episode may last anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes.several times i was fortunatly able to back off and pull to the side of the road.this happens at least 6 times per month, but only noticable at night.my vin is 1g3w$52hoxf311164.

When driving headlights flicker from bright to dim until they finally just shut off.dealer has been contacted.

While driving in the cold weather the head lights dims causing low visability on the road. Mr

Can't override automatic head lights and dim or turn off lights at night.

The orignal bulb was replaced and within a few hours the light malfunction again.wheni removed the bulb the bulb was partially singed and melted .the same was true each time the bulb was replaced.

Fading/dimming of interior lights and exterior lights, failed power window, 4 fuel injector failures.

While driving in cold weather, the head lights would dim, which caused a loss of visability on the road. Mr*jg

Car uses too much oil.told by service center that vehicle should not be burning oil.however vehicle uses 6 quarts verses 5 quarts and 500 miles later, low oil indicator comes on.service center can not explain the problem or give any insight for the excess oil used every time service is required.also headlights cut out while driving.

While driving at 40 mph all electrical components went out. Dashboard lights went blank, and speedometer began winding forward and backwards.windows began to roll up and down, while the headlights began to blink off and on. Dealer checked the problem but couldn't find the cause.

Lights dimming to almost dark and coming back on.had to replace the alternator with less than 20,000 miles on the car.have heard that others have had this problem and it is very common.this cost me over $700 to fix.

Headlights flicker from dim to bright to dim to bright.will occur every week or so for 5-30 minutes of constant flickering.

Dad:the consumer stated that the headlights had come on and had gone off intermittently and the cruise control was not working.the dealer could not identify the cause of the problem.this problem had been happening for two months.the consumer had no consultation with the manufacturer.(11/22/05)the problem was found to be a failing ignition switch.*sc

Headlights flicker during cold weather causing low visibility.cleaned ground wire w/o resolution.

The headlights dim and/or flicker. The engine power decreases when it happens. The alternator was replaced at 32,00 miles. The problem occurs intermittently.there is no particular pattern related to weather or driving conditions.

Power surges when consumer hears the fan motor . Thenvehicle would be slowing down. Also, whenconsumer has headlights on at night, they get brighter and dimmer when he applies the accelerator.

While drivingand when headlights are needed, they flicker off and on. Also, headlights are very dim, causing poorvisibility. Consumer has contacted dealer. This is consumer's second vehicle with the same type of problem.please provide any further details.

The fan for the heat and air conditioning keeps failing to work, the front turn signal either burns out in 4 days or won't work at all even with professionally installed all new bulbs.the engine keeps running even when i remove the key from the ignition.

Turn signals are intermittent.sometimes they do not flash when the turn signal switch is activated. This applies to both left and right. This occurs randomly on different days, not just the single date i was forced to enter.

My 1999 oldsmobile intrigue would not start. I put the hood up and told my girlfriend to start the car.when she did it backfired into the intake and blew up in my face. I lost hearing in my left ear for about 4 days. Car got towed to chance's automotive in easton, maryland. Since i have full coverage on the car i got a rental vehicle through the insurance company.weeks later the insurance company says that there is a recall on my car.however i was never notified by any manufacturer saying so.since there was/is a recall on my car the insurance company says that they will not pay for the cost of my car being fixed.so i call a local general motors dealership.the general motors dealership says that they do not have any information about this recall and they are not going to fix it because they do not have a record saying there is a recall on my car.i have called my insurance company numerous times trying to find what website they were using to obtain this information.finally after weeks they give me your website. I searched the reports with 3 recall numbers(which 2 do not exist;96v1160000 and 03v473000) that the insurance company gave me.recall # 04v09000 is listed in your database but the recall does not specifically mention my car, a 1999 oldsmobile intrigue.however the motor you specify is the same motor in my car.from this information i do not know whom should take responsibility for it.i have been getting the run around for a month now from the insurance company and the local general motors dealership.i have a rental vehicle which have to go back tomorrow, february 14, 2006.i have a 10 year old son who i have to take to school everyday and i have a career of my own.without transportation i cannotprovide for my child.i just want these mess to be solved.

Car exterior and interior lights will dim and then brighten while driving at night.seems to act up more in colder tempertures but is still acting up in warmer weather.fan speed for air & heater will flucuate.they have replaced the altenator but it didn't correct the problem. Also having probelms when starting up the car.acts like it is "missing"but no engine check light came on.dealership tried running a fuel injectorfluid through it but hasn't corrected the problem.

Was pulling out of parking lot ontostreet whenbrake pedal went tofloor, had no brakes to slow down, and vehicle proceeded directly intostreet. Finally, decided to take vehicle to dealership to have mechanic checkbrakes. Could not find any problem with brakes or pedal.

Bullintin out concerning problem but reduced bill to $798.35. My concern is has this happened on other intrigues.

After starting vehicle then reversing could hear noise coming fromfront end, brakes had gone out and had to be replaced.air conditioner had blownout hot air instead of cool air. Had to be repaired.

Brakes have been pulsing a lot to the point that the car does not break well.took it in to have it fixed and was told that both front rotors and bearings would have to be replaced.told that this is a common problem with this car.cost me over $1000 for this repair.

Steering broke.car was totally uncontrollable.went into a steep ditch with a mom and two children in it. The front wheels were facing out like steering column broke.

When the consumer made a left turn, it was difficult to steer because the steering wheel became stiff. At the same time vehicle stalled. The dealer was notified. Please provide further information.

When the consumer tried to make a left turn, the steering wheel locked up.

Steering is locking up while making left hand turns whichcould cause loss of vehicle control. Oldsmobile dealer has attempted to fix defect 3-4 times by replacing steering column shaft and other related parts, but there is still a crunching noise when turning. Consumer again took vehicle to dealer who claimed a pulley needed to be replaced which could not be done because a special toolwas needed to perform the repair . Tool was on national backorder and has not provided a date as to when tool will be availble.

I have a 1999 oldsmobile intrigue that is having the same problems with power steering loss at low speeds that gm is having with their cobalt and pontiac models.there has been no recall on the intrigue for this problem.the mechanic can't find what is wrong with it because it does not happen all the time. Vehicle has an intermittant steering shaft problem (no other information provided)

Steering is numb. Lower shaft was replaced bydealership mechanic.while making a turn there arecracking and banging noises.

My 1999 intrigue has had the steering shaft replaced two times and lubed two times.the first time it was replaced the dealer put on the paperwork that it was replaced "due to poor design".now the last time i took it in and they just lubed it. They said that gm is saying that it is a maintenance problem and that it will happen again and i will have to start paying for it ($110.00 plus tax).i have owned many cars and never have i owned one that had to have the steering shaft lubed, much less lubed on a "regular basis".anybody with half a brain knows this is not a maintenance problem, this is a design flaw.i also know the problem is in some of the other gm models.i was reading some of the consumer complaints on your web sight and was surprised to find out that some of these steering shafts have actually broken and the car could not be steered.this concerns me alot.just how save is this car?does someone have to die in an accident before anything is done about this problem.please check into this and please have these cars recalled.there seems to be a big problem with this.everyone isn't going to take the time to write you guys and complaint, some people will just trade them in.on your web page alone there were at least 83 complaints about this problem on the 1998 models and 24 on the 1999 modes.i just want someone to let me know if this has been checked out and if my car is safe to drive.right now i don't think it is. The transmission has an intermittent problem that two dealers have tried to fix, then tell me that the condition is normal.the brake rotors have warped, it took three trips to the dealership repair shop to fix the problem.warranty was charged twice on brake repair when only one repair was done.defroster function on car was inoperative due to water collecting in ac unit.ac has moldy smell that has not yet been corrected.very dissatisfied with dealerships that try to repair car.

My power steering has not worked for about 3-4 weeks now; it feels very tight. I read the ny times article (6/7/02) about this problem and made calls to the dealer about this, but they haven't heard anything about this issue yet. I've made an appointment for 6/13 to have it looked at, but even with my service warranty, they can't guarantee it will be covered by the manufacturer even though this is obviously a manufacturer's defect.

Steering or rack and pinion making noise .you have had a lot of complaints on this item..1999 oldsmobile intrigue gl .

Steering rack changed by the dealer-stiffness and clicking were the symptoms, transmition selonoid change by the dealer $600- banging into gear when outside temperatures were hot; water leak on passenger floor- dealer tried to repair twice problem ongoing; windshield tends to fog very rapidly i have noticed this problem with many intrigue's that i see on the road.

While initiating a left turn in my 1999 oldsmobile intrigue the steering suddenly locked making it almost impossible to turn the wheel. There were no prior indications that a problem existed with the steering. The dealer has informed me that the steering gear (rack and pinion) needs to be replaced. With only 52,000 miles of mostly highway driving i logged onto the nhtsa web site to see if this is a common complaint among intrigue owners. It appears it is. In calling to solicit reduced prices for this $1200+ bill a number of dealers admitted that this was not an uncommon problem with intrigues and that it most often affected left turns. A safe steering mechanism is not something that should wear out with only 52,000 miles and the sudden nature of the failure, also a common complaint in your web site, is very concerning. *nlm

I am now afraid to drive this car with its steering problems. I can not even trade it in.

Car needed rack and pinion 4 steering shafts put in instead of needed part when it completely broke the steering wheel was free spinning and we had just exited i95 and had pulled into a tire place.we are now very frieghtened of this auto because we came so close to getting killed and we contacted general motors and they would not buy the car back and neither would the dealership. This partneeded to be put on a recall. As we understand the situation, the rack and pinion should have been replaced all these times instead of the 4 steering shafts that were put in automobile.

When turning the vehicleit made a loud crunching sound when the weather turned cold. Consumer took vehicle to amechanic, where it was determined that the rack and pinion steering assembly needed to be replaced.

Consumer took car in for a routine check up and mechanic noticed a leak. Mechanic said that seals were leaking.dealer replaced the rack and pinion.

I have a serious problem when i turn left! sometimes it will and most of the time i have to break a sweat. I had the power steering pump replaced and the problem still is there. I have found several different complaints and recalls of gm vehicles that have rack and pinion deficiencies. To get my rack and pinion replace it will cost me $600 for the part and ten hours of labor. Due to the fact that they have to remove the engine just to get to it. Now, i m a sergeant in the us army and i am stationed in germany. The closest thing i have to gm is an opel dealer. I spoke to oldsmobile and they say that they do not have any recalls or complaints about the rack and pinion on file. This is bs. Look at the nhtsa web site and you will find hundreds of them. Or just search for olds intrigue steering problems. I take care of my car and i keep up the services. I even had it sponsored by audiobahn doing car shows. I just want the right answers. Is this my problem or is it the manufactures? *nlm

I own a 1999 olds intrigue and that has had steering shaft problems. Almost every 25k miles i have had to replace the lower steering shaft at a cost of over $400. The first two incidents were covered by warranty but the last one i had to pay for. Additionally it appears that i am going to have to have the shaft replaced again, which would be the 4th shaft in 120k miles. Oldsmobile has refused to assist. Based on nhtsa campaign id number 03v527000 (steering:rack and pinion) for 1998 intrigues, i believe that my issue may be similar to the campaign stated. This is a potentially serious safety/driving hazard and hope nhsta can extend the 1998 steering problem to 1999. Thank you for you assistance.

I do think my vehicle was affected and here are the reasons.the contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile intrigue. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise that progressed, which sounded like a knocking associated with the engine assembly rods. While driving an 20 mph rate of speed, the vehicle failed to move. A local mechanic diagnosed that a rod fractured and water and oil leaked into the engine, which caused a major issue. The vehicle was was able to be driven and was parked at the home and now can only driven for a short time due to over heating (engine and engine cooling), 00v044000 (seat belts), and 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified, and mileage any where from10 to 70 mph.

3 of the four tires, both front and one rear, have bubbling on inside edge with tread seperation.it sounds simular to the firestone problems.i find it perplexing that these tires lasted less then 37000 miles before they had tread seperation.as soon as i noticed, i replaced all the tires with another brand because i did not want to risk a blowout.it is difficult to notice this particular seperation because it occured on the inside edge of the rear tires.i noticed it only because something did not sound right and i located the faulty areas by feel.i am concerned that if this is a wide spread problem, some might not notice before the seperation becomes worse and/or a blow out occurs.( dot number: m6xobmwr24 tire size: p22560r16 )

The problem with the vehicle is that when the throttle position sensor failed instead of slowing or stopping the vehicle it would cause the vehicle to speed up,the best discription i can give is that while driving down the interstate on july 30 i was driving at 65mph when i removed my foot from the accelerator the caraccelerated to 70mph and i had to apply the breakes before the car would slow down and when the brakes were released the vehicle would speed backup without any movement of the accelerator peddle,i contacted the factory and made them aware of the problem thay recorded all the information that was given to them and gave me a service number which is 1-21538376 then contacted the dealer that repaired the car and called me back,i asked if anyone would contact me about the problem and let me know if the car was safe or if there was a chance that the new sensor could fail and cause myself or my family to have an accident thay said i would not contacted and if gm looked into this problem thay would not give that information out unless there was a recall on the sensor.if gm looks into this problem which it sounds to me like it will take a few people getting killed before thay will address this issue or let intrigue owners know that their cars could have a problem that could cause them to loose control of the vehicle while driving and possible have a accident.this response to this serious safety issue from gm in my opinion is not acceptable when my wife and child have to use this vehicle everyday.will it take my family being in an accident before this issue is taken seriously by gm?while nhtsa is looking into this matter i will be searching for a different vehicle that will not be a gm product.

We paid for one repair ourselves but refuse to pay for the two remaining non-functioning windows. Wepurchased the car new in dec of 1999. The only response that we've gotten from gm is that we should take it to a gm dealership and have it "diagnosed" at our expense. It should be noted that two of the currently failed windows are ones that they've already replaced under warranty. The incident date given is for the first failure, they've been failing regularly ever since. We believe thisto be not only a functional problem but a safety concern as when the windows fail they stay in either the up or down position, we've now experienced multiples of each. In the down the position the car is not secure and in the up position a possible avenue of escape from the vehicle in the event of an accident is eliminated. *nlm

Within 30 days, three of the four power windows have failed.estimates on each window is between $370.00 and $400.00 dollars.i can see one window failing, but three within 30 days is a statistical impossibility.am awaiting word from gm, oldsmobile and the district service manager to see what, if anything, they are going to do.
