My vehicle was bumped from behind by a vehicle making a sudden lane change while traveling 70mph. Although there was no actual impact it was enough to cause the car to slide left and scrape the left rear bumper along a concrete barrier causing minimal damage to my vehicle. During my emergency breaking and the rapid deceleration to maintain control of the vehicle the front airbags deployed forcing my hands off the wheel and obstructing my view causing the car to go out of control. As a result of the inflation of the airbags the car sustained major damage.

In 1998-99 i purchased a new intrigue.in the 2 years it was owned i had 6-8 episodes of the engine shutting down while driving including high speed driving. The car would suddenly stop with out warning and come to an eventual stop. Repeated trips to the dealer failed to find a cause.they suspected a fuel line issue but could not id the cause. I sold the vehicle after 2 years of ownership, long before i intended to do so.

Car refuses to start, leaving driver helpless. Occurs intermittently without warning (more frequently over time). Research on internet identifies this as a common problem with gm passlock. Although a common problem it is unclear what the problem really is - seems the solution is to have the system replaced by the dealer.this is extremely dangerous to a vulnerable person dependent upon the automobile.

My car would make noise and rattle also steering became difficult , had to replace rack and pinion. The 2 nd thing is that my car would shut off any where any time and i hadto replace the ignition switch. Now i find out there were recalls on both these things which i never knew that there was a recall, except for the rear seat belts. Now , i, my family or numerous people on the road could have gotten killed when my car shut off.i find out that gm knew about these things and never told me?that makes me very angry and i don't appreciate all the money that fixing these things cost me.

We purchased a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue in october of 2009. Within just a few weeks, we began experiencing difficulty with the passlock security system. Our keys were not being recognized. This resulted in periodic stalling, sometimes while trying to get through an intersection. The problem has gotten so bad that we are unable to start the car at all. Many people are experiencing this same problem. Please make gm pay for this repair.

1. Rack & pinion failure, 2. Serpentine belt tensioner failure (@approx 45000 mi) 3. L rr seatbelt installed twisted at factory- shoulder strap wouldn't lock for child safetyseat, dealer fixed. 4. Warped front rotors, 5. I have experienced the dash going haywire or completely out accompanied by the sensation of a slipping trans and sluggish/clunking steering (twice, once about 8 months ago and about a week before the r&p failure) 6. Two tires have had belt separation.

Recall id 75918- engine and engine coolinggmc owner center,i own a 1998 oldsmobile and has had several problems with the window regulators failing, signal lights, electrical, cooling system and coolant warning light since owning the vehicle in 2000. Engine and gaskets have blown, water temp has blown and after costly repairs, the low coolant light still goes off and on. Dealership always have to have light on to detect issues and still never detect anything. My coolant and levels are always checked and filled and the light still triggers on and off for awhile then return on again throughout car history. In 2008 my coolant light was acting up and i had vehicle checked out and fluids at appropriate level. Vehicle ended up overheating on interstate and i had to replace water pump and something else. Light went out for awhile and vehicle checked out. In 2009 light came on and vehicle checked and all fluid levels correct. Light still comes on and blinks and goes off for awhile. Smells like oil or something burning in car. I was on consumer recall site and saw this engine and engine cooling recall from 2009 regarding the spark plug wire retention. I don't recall receiving this notification. I believe the last recall letter i received was in 2008 regarding the steering. My vehicle was taken to shop for that and checked out at that time. Can i still have my spark plug wire retainers replaced for this recall?

While driving with the air conditioner on, the lights became dim.the manufacturer was aware of the problem but had not found a remedy.

I received a letter in may stating that gm was recalling my car for possible engine fires (recall 09047). I called the number provided and was routed to one of the local dealers, who told me that they couldn't do anything with it until late july or august and to call back for an appointment then. Yesterday, 7/20/09, my car burned to a crisp. According to the firemen, it was an electrical fire that started under the hood somewhere and it burned so hot and so fast that they were unable to salvage it. The fire engines are kept literally a block away from where the fire occurred. They responded within minutes and still the entire engine contents fried right up. My car is a total loss. Today i have spent just over two hours on the phone with gm customer service, i have had to escalate the calls twice and call back to them twice and once to the local dealer and all anyone will say is they will contact me within 5 business days and to save the vehicle so they can investigate it. I have nowhere to store this car in it's current state. It is a major fire hazard-especially with our current warm weather/dry conditions and it's full tank of gas. Gm informed me that if i make the decision to have it moved to a junk yard to take lots of pictures before that happens. I informed them that i cannot keep the vehicle here, due to it's fire hazard to the other residents on my block-their half a million dollar homes and their vehicles that are parked in the same area.

Ignition cylinder has failed and pass key is part of failure. Occasionally my car won't start because of this; mechanic says he has to replace the ignition cylinder and get me two new keys and recode them to the car. This will cost about $700-800. The car wouldn't start 5 times already and mechanic says its will only get worse til finally it doesn't work.

Pass lock failure; securitylights up on dashboard.

98 olds intrigue security light comes on intermittently with no provocation. Often the car decides not to start and i am left stranded for up to half an hour while the security system resets.

1998 olds intrigue. Sometimes when i'm driving the whole dashboard lights up and the car shuts down. Why??also, sometimes the car won't even start, the security light comes on, and may not start for ten minutes, or 24 hours...i have a new transmission, i have had the car scanned, but no codes come up. I have changed the battery, the alternator has been checked, and recently had the key switch changed. The very next day it happened again!!! i was driving and out of nowhere, all of my dash lights come on, and the car just shuts down. The passlock security light comes on and stays on, disabling the car's ability to start.gm has said there's nothing they can do about it, but i've seen hundreds of complaints over the internet of owners with the same problem. Just the fact that it may come on while i'm driving is a serious hazard in itself.

The security light is lit and the car won't start the is the key switch it has the same symptoms that many people in the forums are typing about.

For the 6th time my a/c has failed to operate properly.it has previously been repaired on 4/20/99, 5/5/99, 9/11/01, 1/8/02 and 7/9/02.the problem always seems to be the same whereby the air is not blowing out the proper vents and the actuator had to be either replaced or adjusted each time.is this some sort of defect in the manufacture of this part?

Intake manifold failure on a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue, coolant leaked into oil causing a hydrolock. This could have easily caused the engine to explode if i had been on an interstate. Supposedly this is a common problem with these vehicles according to the mechanic. This leak can also cause a fire. I had to have repairs conducted to the tune of more than 2k.

I had bought a 98 oldsmobile intrigue around the middle of january from a private owner out of the classifieds. About 2 weeks later, the day i got induced to have a child, my car had started a fire in the hospital parking lot. Then in may, i got a safety recall notice in the mail. I wanted to know what exactly i can do to fix this problem, we had to junk the car because it was not fixable. I do still have the title though.

I am writing this for my husband. My daughter's car (which is in my name) was parked in her driveway for 3 weeks while she was out of the country. This morning approx. 10:30am., tue. 17th. 2012, her dad wanted to get it cleaned up for her before she came home tonight. Her dad put the key in but the car would not start. He figured that the battery was dead (the battery was only a few months old). He pulled his vehicle next to the 1998 olds intrigue and hooked up the battery cables. When he went to start the intrigue, there was a very loud boom (he described it like an m-80 going off) and he then saw flames!!! underneath the hood. He ran and got a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. As the smoke cleared, he saw pieces of broken plastic/metal on the driveway in front of the car and the intake manifold had blown 10 to 15 feet into the garage!!!if someone had been standing near the front of the car, they might have been very seriously injured or even killed. My husband talked to a couple of people he knows (one is a mechanic), after the explosion, and they had never heard of anything like this happening to a vehicle! i just thank god no one was standing in front of that car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 1998 olds intrigue has been leaking oil for over a year. Has been worked on by numerous mechanics and nobody can seem to can seem to find the cause or where exactly the oil leak is coming from! please provide any info possible!

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue.the contact stated that oil was dripping onto the manifold abnormally, causing smoke to be released from the front end of the vehicle.the dealer was contacted and advised the contact that her vin had not been included in nhtsa campaign id number: 09v116000 (engine and engine cooling).the manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the current and the failure mileages were 140,000.

1998 oldsmobile intrigue. December 23, 2009, husband was leaving work around 3:30 pm and when he came to a stop sign he noticed the vehicle smoking, and then noticed a small fire. No vehicle issues prior till. The fire department was called and fire put out. The vehicle has endured yet another issue. We left it with a mechanic and $1300 that same day; he claimed the car was repairable. He could never determine the cause of fire. We are trying to peruse legal issues with the mechanic because he never responded to us nor did he repair our vehicle and kept our money. We did not receive the recall notices till recently, nor did we know there was a recall issue involving small engine fires. I am a disabled veteran and at the time was pregnant. We endured a lot of heartache due to no vehicle that following year. Is my situation a lost cause or can you still help me with the issue? unknown engine fire.

This car has had many small problems. Many electrical problems in the air conditioning. The transmission had to be rebuilt at 78000. The biggest problem is in the steering. The intermediate shaft wears out after about 20,000 miles. I am about to have the intermediate shaft replaced for the third time. The first was taken care of by the warranty. The second came out of my pocket and now i am about to have it replaced again.

98 olds intrigue, coming home from school, tried to avoid a car coming off the onramp. Had car on cruise hit the gas alittle and the car took off. Tried to stop, after several attempts the car finally stop, almost hitting the car in front of me. After i got out the engine caught on fire. The car is a total lose.

The piston rod blew a 2.5 inch hole through the engine casing at 158000 km.we had to completely replace the engine.the engine warning light never came on to warn us that a major part failure was about to take place.the back shoulder belts have never functioned properly.the brakes seem to need frequent replacement due to corosion of parts.could you please let me know if anyone else has complained about a blown out engine? thank you

Intensive leak of cooling fluid from manifold case full loose power... So, with speed 65 mph my car was without brakes and ... .

While driving temperature gauge registered hot.a loud knocking noise was heard from the front of the vehicle.consumercontacted the dealer, andmechanic informed the driver that the vehicle had to be driven in for analysis.

Water pump leak at 47,000 miles.fixed by dealer.sound of fluid or water rushing through hoses when steering wheel is turned or when taking off from a stop.fan on heater/ac makes screeching noise when turned on.sound was originally a chirping or whistling sound, like bleeding air.dealer has tried everything from "squirrles nesting in engine" to "coolant leaking on motor belt".problem is not in motor,it is in air conditioning system.now vent button indicator lights stay on all the time even when fan is not on.have to drive car tomorrow to nh and need problem fixed.hopefully, i will get results from dealer tomorrow.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, there was a burning odor and the temperature gauge displayed that the vehicle was overheating. The contact opened the hood and discovered that the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police/fire report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed. I was out running errands and returned home in atl ga. I was in the house for about 10-15mins. And i heard like a small boom sound i proceed to the door where i notice white smoke coming from my car. I ran outside and proceed to open the hood where when i did the motor was fully on fire and ran and grab the water hose and put the fire out. I then went back inside and called olds. Dealership. Where the checked for recalls and i then explained what had happen. They informed me too called the fire dept. Who came out and made sure fire was fully extinguished.

While driving 65 mph check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Suddenly, the vehicle stalled.vehicle was taken to thedealer for inspection, an d mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced.

Catastrophic failure of oil pump without warning (i.e., oil pressure lamp did not remain illuminated after engine start) resulted in extensive engine damage that required replacement of engine.*la

While driving heard something falling off, suddenly steering wheel locked up. Vehicle had to be towed. Mechanic stated that drive belt idler pulley fell off.

While driving the consumer heard a pop then the vehicle stalled and caught on fire.*mr*nlm

While changing oil i noticed a coolant leak, i looked into the leak further and noticed it was leaking from the upper intake and throttle body area. I was informed by a gm tech that there is a problem with these plastic upper intake manifolds on the gm 3800 series ii engines and gm came out with a better quality and reinforced egr port on the replacement manifolds. I had to get another upper intake replaced on my 1998 park ave at 50,000 miles. Now my 1998 olds intrigue with 21,000 miles needs replaced. Besides the two that i own, the gm tech that informed me of this problem, also said he had to change the upper intakes on his own vehicles (2) of them. There is definitely a problem defect here and i should be reimbursed.

Engine bolts have fallen fromrockerandhave embeded in top ofgaskets, renderingvehicle inoperable.

All three problems (abs failure/ windshield wipers/ oil leak) described by dealer as "very common" for 1998 oldsmobile intrigues. Mr

When driving through a very small puddle of water, the water splashed up into the hood, wetting different parts of the right side of engine, including the alternator. Owner noticed the mud after opening the hood on december 12th to check the engine compartment. *ml

I have received a recall notice in the mail for a car i owned(98 olds intrigue). I bought the car o6..or 05...i really liked this car .but all at once it started chugging on my way home one night.. I got home and just left the car sit. Next morning i tried to start it but it would start... I was told to get a new battery...i did..that wasn't it.... I was told to buy a new starter... Still didn't work... Finally had it towed to local shop.... When he tried to start it and backfire very loud and started on fire... I was told.. The engine was no good... I ended up selling the car for 600...that hurt.... Being i had to find rides to work for about a month... I had to borrow money to get a much cheaper car that im not real happy with but had no choice... Must get to work. I guess im just wondering if there is any thing that i would be entitled to because i now know it was to do with a plastic sparkplug wire when it was made? my dates are all approx.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue.the contact stated that the service engine warning light was illuminated.the dealer stated that the upper and lower manifold gaskets needed to be replaced.the same failure previously occurred and that gasket was replaced.the current mileage is 106,000 and failure mileage was 52,363.

My son was driving the car and he was at a friends house when they noticed smoke from under the hood. They opened the hood and the engine had caught on fire.. They were lucky enough to have a 2 liter bottle of soda nearby and managed to put out the fire. However not before extensive damage had been done. I was told by the mechanic who fixed it, that it looks like the oil caught on fire possibly by arcing of spark plugs?? i had over $300.00 in damages. I just heard today that these were recalled.. 04/14/09.. Repaired parts were spark plug wires, oil dipstick, oil cover.. The engine cover is still melted and smoke damage is still apparent under the hood.

Dealer states may 19, 1998 after harving car for 1 week that they could not get it to duplicate, however it has occurred many times while i was driving.another problem is that the cruise control button and stereo become very hot.

Dealer indicates vehicle has multiple oil leaks, which are premature for vehicle mileage, and are result of "failed gaskets."dealer replaced valve cover gaskets and intake manifold gasket, resolving problem.

The engine cracked, which rendered the vehicle inoperative.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue.a few minutes after the vehicle was parked in the garage, it caught fire.the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire.a report was filed and there were no injuries.the fire occurred in august of 2008.the contact called the manufacturer and they stated that they could not assist because the vehicle was too old.the failure mileage was 80,000.

Upper intake manifold had to be replaced on 1998 intrigue with 57000 miles.my mechanic and his partner are scheduled to fix three of these next week.my inquiries have lead me to understand that this is a very comon problemcaused by a poor design

Ongoing problem with engine stalling/shut down intermittently.vehicle been in dealer shop on several occasions, andproblem still reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.

While drinving at highway speedsengine will suddenly die. This has happened several times.dealer has been contacted.

At time, my car will not start; the dash lights, air, radio, etc. Come on, but the engine will not turn over.after a few minutes and continually turning the ignition on, it finally will start.this hapened for the first time 4/13/00.after it started, i went immediatly to the oldsmobile dealership (mcgough).they could find nothing wrong.this happened again 7/26/00.i took my car to mcgough the following day.they replaced the ignition switch and said this had been the problem.car would not start 7/28/00.took it to mcgough the following day.on advice of technical assistance (engineer), they checked and tightened all connections and terminal ends.car would not start again on 8/11/00.took car to mcgough the following day.they could find nothing wrong.mcgough told me the second time i had my car in for this problem that there were several other intrigues in this area with the exact same problem and they had been unable to pinpoint what the problem.my conern is that one of these time, the car will not start at all even after several attempts.there has got to be something causing this problem.it is very inconvenient to leave my car for an entire day (four times so far) and have nothing done to alleviate the problem.i would like to know if you have had other complaints with this problem

While driving vehicle just died without any kind of warning.manufacturer has been notified about the probem.vehicle was serviced for this problem a couple of times. But,problem has not been corrected. Please provide any further nformation.

Engine stalls repeatedly at various speeds and conditions.manufacturer has agreed to repurchase vehicle.

Since september 18th the vehicle has stalled 9 times for no reason. This happened while driivng at any speed and pulling off after a stopping.dealership was not able to find out what was causing this problem.

Engine/transmission whine reported to dealer at 31360 miles (dealer could not duplicate). Transmission failed at 40976 miles (engine revs rose and car slowed - on interstate at 65 mph), transaxle replaced and whine no longer present. Even out of warranty, oldsmobile paid hafl of the $2800.00 bill, but feel that failure at this mileage is totally unacceptable. Complaint to olds at their web site got a response that they are sorry, its out of warranty. Bearing in hvac motor failed at 34909 miles. Clunk in steering fixed by replacement of steering rack and interim shaft.

Vehicle experiencing intermittent engine failure resulting in the vehicle shutting down while driving, faulty starter replaced however engine still experiencing failures.

While driving 5mph over speed bumps in an apartment complex engine & transmission had fallen out. Transmission was a replacement for the original that was not shifting properly.

Engine buring oil

Fuel pump/steering rack and pinion/both front struts/battery,and engine failures.

This car has died four times in ten months, three of these in the last six weeks.the dealer has been unable to duplicate the problem in spite of having the car for at least 14 days.after 1/2 hour the car starts again with no problem.they replaced a fuel valve but the car failed again after that.i need reliable transportation and can no longer trust the reliability of this car.what can i do???? help??????

The vehicle cuts off at random times. Has to sit for awhile to be started again. Sometimes it will cut off again after less than 3 miles. Dealer cant find the problem.

When going over water puddles serpentine belt gets wet, causingloss of power steering and wheellockup which could result in anaccident.

Car wouldn't start. Had repaired . Coolant and water leaking onto manifold exhaust.repaired in 2006. Now it is leaking again. Saw recall on '99 olds intrigue. I have a '98 intrigue, could it be similar? the recall for the '99 is dated sept. 1998. The repair was a replacement of a gasket in the manifold exhaust system but it tookseveral hours to repair and $730.00 . Now it is leaking again. What is my next step?

There were no events leading up to the engine compartment fire on may 29th at about 10:00pm.except that prior to the incident whenever the vehicle was driven there was a burning odor inside the vehicle.we had a recall done on the vehicle that we thought would correct the burning odor but it however didn't fix that.the recall number was 09047.we had a small engine compartment fire in may of 2007 but there wasn't any damage.however, with the engine compartment fire or thermal event as gm calls it there was major damage totaling the vehicle as when the oil drips down on to the hot exhaust manifold there was no where for the oil to drip down to the ground so therefore it resulted in a fire.the recall #09047 did nothing to solve the burning odor smell or an engine compartment fire.the vehicle did have small amounts of smoke that would come out of the engine compartment when it was driven starting 6 months prior to the final engine compartment fire on june 29, 2009.then after the recall was done was when we started noticing the burning odor or smell when the vehicle was driven.

I was the second owner and bought the car in february 2003.had to replace the radiator twice. Kept having trouble with the temperature showing high.06 bought a radiator.summer of 08 going up escondido mtn traveling to california... Caught fire.had to replace the exhaust manifold.engine temp kept reading high and service could not find the reason why.replaced radiator again and traveling to nm may 2009 the temp kept reading high again and i had to pull over and then stay in second gear with the heater on full blast.finally had to replace the vehicle.the intrigue was a very nice car with leather seats and drove really good when it was working correctly, but since the engine fire i've had noting but trouble and maintenance repairs.can i be reimbursed at all for any of those expenses?

This car has died four times in ten months, three of these in the last six weeks.the dealer has been unable to duplicate the problem in spite of having the car for at least 14 days.after 1/2 hour the car starts again with no problem.they replaced a fuel valve but the car failed again after that.i need reliable transportation and can no longer trust the reliability of this car.what can i do???? help??????

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue.when the contact started his vehicle, it backfired from the exhaust.next, the upper intake manifold shattered and the engine caught fire.the contact did not call the fire or police departments.he called the manufacturer and they stated that someone will get back in touch with him as soon as possible.no repairs have been made to the vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 170,000.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue.while driving at an unknown speed, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the upper and lower intake manifolds needed to be replaced.the contact has had the part replaced on three different occasions, which originated with the check engine light illuminating.the current mileage was 117,000 and failure mileage was 52,363.

When starting the vehicle smoke came from under the hood. Consumer was informedthat intake manifold blew out.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Concern regarding the plastic intake manifold. *mr the engine was leaking coolant and the intake manifold required replacement. The consumer requested a refund. *sc

Passlock system failure (security light flashes and car will not start) - followed manual and allowed "security system" to recycle itself (leave key on til light stops blinking, turn off key and start car). Appear to have solved problem by having a new key made at the dealer from the vin.

The events leading up to the failure is just turning the car on. The failure is the daytime/signal lights, it occurs now up to 3 times a week. After putting a new light in its place within the next day the light is burning out at the connection part. As of right now nothing is being don to correct the problem but buying $5 light bulbs 2 to 3 times a week.

The blinker switch isn't working properly. It started about a month ago and i replaced the bulb four times and now when i try to replace itdoesn't do anything. I have noticed all intrigues having the same problem as i have asked them if that was the case. I took it to an automotive mechanic and they said that it was a defective turn signal switch. That needs to be replaced.

Turn signal malfunction - my car turn signal do not work either. The dealership did not know what the issue was and wanted to explore the electrical system .

The right front turn signal/running lights continuously went out without warning. This was due to the same defect described in recall 04v547000 for the drl turn signal bulb replacement, but this make/ model was not included in the recall.

Turn signal design flaw, signal does not turn off on most turns.

Turn signals will not cancel out properly unless making a full 90 degree turn. Dealerhas replaced turn signals once, but defect has reoccurred several times.

Gasoline evaporation leak at tank hose causing engine warning light to come on. Gm dealer says hose is broke at tank and only way to fix it is to replace entire length of hose and fuel tank at a cost of approximately $780. Apparently, this is a one piece sealed system and would appear there is a defectin the material if the leak is occurring somewhere between the two ends.*la

Dash board lights went off while driving.yh

We purchased a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue in october of 2009. Within just a few weeks, we began experiencing difficulty with the passlock security system. Our keys were not being recognized. This resulted in periodic stalling, sometimes while trying to get through an intersection. The problem has gotten so bad that we are unable to start the car at all. Many people are experiencing this same problem. Please make gm pay for this repair.

Problems with locks and latches, where as the door latches will not open the car, preventing a passenger from exiting the vehicle if there was an accident. Presently both of my back door latches will not open the doors in the back. I plan on taking the car to a oldsmobile dealership for repairs in the very near future. The car is a 1998 oldsmobie intrique. And i've had trouble with various locks on the car since i bought it.

I was driving home from town one night, and my 17th month old son some how squirmed half way out of his car seat.he proceeded to pull on the hand of the back passenger door and it came open.it did not open all the way, but if he had put any weight at all on the door, he would have fallen right out.we were going 55 mph and luckily i heard the wind when the door opened, so i was able to get the car stopped before anything happened.my car is equiped with child safety lock and they are engaged, so i guess they just don't work.(child safety locks is one of the main reasons i decided on this car, just in case something like this would happen)the cars doors should not open even if the car is in gear.i did check all the other 3 doors, and they do notopen when the car is in gear.so the next day i called the dealership where we purchased the car to see if there is any recalls on this particular model.they checked and said there is not.they told me that if i wanted it fixed i would have to get and estimate from them and they would fix it for me.i feel that they should have taken my complaint and filed to see if it would qualifiy for a recall.isn't arecalls for safety anyways?luckily my mom was watching tv one morning and saw this web site and told me. I hope you take this matter into serious consideration, it could have taken my son's life.sincerely, brandy layfield

Right and left front door latch sticking.

While driving 5mph over speed bumps in an apartment complex engine & transmission had fallen out. Transmission was a replacement for the original that was not shifting properly.

The design of the automatic transmission will not hold in the drive position while vehicle is stopped.

While parked, shift cable may have broken, causing shift level to remain in gear instead of park.manufucturer was notified.. The shift cable broke while shifting from 1st to park.vehicle therefore stayed in 1st gear.consumer exited vehicle thinking it was in park.fortunately the parking brake had been applied.*jg

When the accelerator is pressed from a complete stop the vehicle makes a sound like going across a rumble strip and the vehicle moves forward about 1 or 2 mph, the driver has to let up on the accelerator then reaccelerate to get the car to go into low gear. The dealer has been notified of the problem but has been unable to reproduce the problem.nlm

I have a 98 olds. Intrigue with the 4t65e and it has a whine noise when it is in park or neutral only. I took it to a chevy dealership and they told me they do not know what is causing the noise. So they told me to drive the car until the trans stop working. Had the noise for 3 years no failures no accidents.

Consumer received recall 00v044, however after the repair the consumer went to buckle the seatbelt and it wouldn't come out.

Fyi. It is frustrating to have the belts "lock"sometimes in the completely retracted position.often requires having to belt one of the children with the middle seat lap-only belt.dealer did not acknowledge the problem when questioned a year ago. Blamed the users (us) even though there has not been any unusual operation on our part.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue.the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 09v116000 and had the vehicle repaired accordingly.the rear seat belts were recalled and repaired as well.after the repair, the seat belts began to malfunction again.the contact called the manufacturer to see if there was an issue with the repair work and was informed that the vehicle needed to be inspected by the dealer.the clips that were applied may be preventing the seat belts from releasing from the retractor.the dealer added a cover piece to the retractor, but it did not remedy the issue.the contact feels that this is a safety issue because the rear seat belt cannot be used.the current mileage was 144,000 and failure mileage was 143,000.

I have called multiple gm dealerships in order to get my ignition recall, oil leak from valve cover recall, and rear seatbelt recalls taken care of and so far none have returned my phone calls regarding the issues. I have had the appointments set for at least 6 months at 2 different dealerships and have yet to hear back on any parts arriving. They told me over the phone at both dealers that it would take a week and a half for parts to arrive and that they would return my call when parts did arrive, but i have yet to hear anything.

There has beenabout 10 attempts to have steering problem corrected pump & rack has been replaced and still have a problem rear brakes warped dealer refused to fix would do only front defective pitted rotors under warr.problems reported when first purch.car steering is a danger wanted to return car too many repairs and not fixed

1. Rear seat belt sometimes locks and won't pull out 2. Anti-lock brakes make loud ratcheting noise and temporarily activate upon starting car, causing what feels like a temporary lack of braking - dealer has not attempted to fix saying it is normal. 3. Intermediate steering shaft has failed twice causing noticible "clunking" noise - dealer has replaced twice under warranty, who will pay the next time? 4. Left rear window sometimes fails to operate.

I have spoken the the oldsmobile district rep. David rickett - they want to continue to replace the defective part. I have asked them to take the car back.

Consumer took vehicle to dealer for recall repair 00v-044 of the seat and shoulder belt, the dealer installed the clips at no charge but refused to untwist the seat belt stating the the clip was the only item under recall. Nlm

I received notice of the defect and contacted my dealer immediately.the rear seat belts are defective in my car.due to the the seat belt webbing becoming jammed in the retactor, the dealer states they will have to do extra work in order to make the repair.they stated they will charge me $75.00 an hour for the repair.i strongly disagree with being charged an amount of money to correct a problem that occurred due to the manufacturers defect.please let me know your thoughts regarding the fee i am to be charged, (my car will be at the dealer 10-11-00) & if you feel charging the consumer a fee to repair their defect is reasonable.please let me know how tp proceed. No summary listed for above vehicle.

The day we picked the car up one of the belts failed.then again several weeks later.the dealer eventually replaced the right rear belt assembly.now the left rear has jammed for the second time.this is a serious safety issue (i have four step children) and i am aware that you are investigating.you need to speed this up before a child is injured or killed.there must be a recall right away!doesn't the manufacturer have to replace safety equipment without charge?

Consumerhad taken vehicle to dealerfour times for rear seat belt repairs on passenger's side. Seat belt will not latch, and each time that had taken vehicle to dealer, dealer said that vehicle had been repaired, but stillproblem exists.

The seat belt in the rear was locked up and couldn't be pulled out.

Rear seat belt retractor sticking, replaced on several occasions, however new unit continues to fail in the same capacity. Mjs

Rear seatbelts fail to retract on a regular basis; have been replaced twice - no improvement; problem is t-slot in which seat belt binds

Both rear set shoulder restraints on this vehicle get jammed when retracting. There has been a recall for this problem, nhtsa #00v044000, consumer has contacteddealer, dealer indicated that this vehicle was not covered under the recall due tovin.

The driver's side door sticks and is very hard to open ftom the inside. His could be hazardous in an accident. Also headrsts collapse randmly when the head is leaned against them. In addition, rear seat belts do not retract.

Seat belt retractor failed.

Consumer stated passenger side rear seatbelt will not retract. The seat belt will sometimesbecome inoperable. Consumer adds he uses the car as transportation to work with passengers in the back seat.there have been 3 occurances where the passengers could not use the seat belt.

Rear seat belt doesn't work, and the consumer can't pull the strap out far enough to use them. Consumer said it is a safety defect.

Rear passenger side shoulder seat belt keeps getting stuck, will not move out of retractor, causing loss of protection.

Rear seat shoulder belts twist, allowing the webbing to jam in the retractor when the shoulder belt webbing becomes jammed in the retractor.dealer has attempted to repair without success.*ml

Both of the rear seatbelts have had problems retracting the belts, and they easily tangle in the retractors, locking up for periods at a time.i have had one set completely replaced on 7/21/99, although they both still occasionally malfunction.i believe this is a safety issue that calls for a redesigned part.

We have had ongoing issues where the passenger and driver seat belts (5 total) do not extend or retract properly. The dealer continues to blame the user although they did replace one mechanism as it would no longer retract or extend. We have taken it in several times as well as called the olds customer service to file a complaint. They refuse to do anything more. They also tell me to learn how to use them! how can guests as well as my family members all have the same issue? many times we are unable to use the seat belts as we can not get them to move in or out to put them on. The dealer and customer service line stated that the seat belt issue was common amoung olds and cadilacs. I don't feel that the manufacturer is solving this issue by letting be a common issue! seat belts should function. Please also note that we have a saturn (1999) that has never had an issue as well as drove a chrysler k car for 10 years without a seat belt incident. I resent the dealer and customer service department for oldsmobile inferring that we were the issue and needed to learn how to use a seat belt. They did not deny that they didn't retract or extend properly. Also please note that while the seat belt is in place that they often tighten up to a very firm hold and don't release. This is dangerous for my 14 year old and anyone who is wearing them.

Seat belts become jammed within the retracting mechanism, causing the seat belts to become inoperable. *ml

Consumerhas to straighten out seatbelt befor it will recline back up into retractor.

Oov044000/rear seat belts: rear shoulder belt would retract from the retractor; causing seat belt to becoed under manufacturer's recall due to vin.feel free to provide further details.

Right rear seat belt retraction system is locked up, preventing use of seat belt.

Rear seat belt would twist whenever it retracted. It would jam up & could not be released. Been repaired by the dealership at least 5 times, but it still would happen.

The left rear seat belt retractor has been replaced 3 times and the right rear seat belt retractor is going to be replaced the second time as soon as the parts come in.i am worried about the safety of our two children in the back seat and am tired of making trips to the dealership.we have owned the car less than a year and have been to the dealership the following dates to either have seat belts ordered or installed- 7/20/99 - 8/10/99 - 8/30/99 - 9/3/99 - 12/30/99 - 1/14/2000

Rear restraints do not retract, causing the occupants to be unrestrained.recall 00v044000 has been issued onvehicle's make/model ; however, this vehicle was not included due to the vin.the rear shoulder harness are retracted, but do not release to be useable, condition exists on both the left and right rear passenger restraints.

Rear seat belts on the right hand side were jammed. Failed to release to be used.webbing has jammed inside the mechanism. Been repaired twice before under warranty.

Rear seatshoulder belt stopped working without a warning. Also, consumer received recall notice 00v044000, but was told by dealer thatit did not applyto this vehicle.

Rear seat belt locked up and did not retract.driver took the vehicle to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic noticed that the seat belt retractorneeded to be replaced.rear seat belt retractor was repaired four times, twice due to recall, problem still occur.*la

Recall 00v044000, rear shoulder belts failed to work properly due to being twisted and not retracting far back enough. Consumer tookvehicle to dealership, and mechanic failed to correct the initial problem of twisted belt. The problem still exists.*al

The rear seat belt failed to come out of the retractor.

Consumer's vehicle was included in recall00v044000 concerning rear seat belt. However, the problem has resurfaced. Consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, who insistedthere was nothing they could do because the vehicle had been repaired through the recall......retractor failed in spite of replacement, but dealer will not repair it again, wanted $3000.00 to replace the retractor.

Rear seat belts get stuck when passengers try to pull out too quickly, ocassionally sticks when trying to make choice of heating or ventilation options.

Seat belt does not securely hold a child car seat.i took the car to the dealer and was told that the latch system for car seats could not be installed because it is not made for that model/year vehicle.they said specifically that the tether strap was not made for this model car and that there is no replacement or anything else they can do.

The consumers driver and passenger rear shoulder harnesses were jammed in their retractors.*nlm

The rear seat belt in the back middle seatis not long enough to go around a child saftey seat.this is the safest place for a car seat yet the seat belt is too short.i need a longer seat belt or an extender.please help me my child is riding in an unsafe position.

The rear lap restraint belt does not remain tight when using a rear-facing child seat, dealer informed consumer that the type of child seat used will not work in the rear seat of the vehicle.

Rear seat belts don't work and that is a safety defect due to other consumers riding in the vehicle. The seat belt isn't long enough and can't be used.

Rear seat belts lock up in partially extended state, so passengers cannot use them.problem is a vertical slot in the belt retractor guide, which is wide enough for the horizontally retracting belt to slide into, resulting in a twisted belt that locks up.olds customer service says they 'operate as designed'.how can anyone in 1998 'design' a seat belt that renders itself useless in normal service?????????new cars on the showroom floor also have this problem and sooner or later someone will be killed because they couldn't use their seat belt.

Steering rack has a clunking sound when when first moving car & turning the steering wheel plus is hard to turn.parking lamp socket failed causing bulb to melt & fuse melted plastic inside of socket, which will not allow a replacement bulb to be replaced, bulb fails to light up for turn signals.air conditioning is poor at best, will not cool car down.

The driver's side door sticks and is very hard to open ftom the inside. His could be hazardous in an accident. Also headrsts collapse randmly when the head is leaned against them. In addition, rear seat belts do not retract.

Driver's side power seat (back support) failed.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times. The warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle lost power each time the failure occurred. Also, excessive force had to be applied to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

The abs motor is on national back order, as told by the dealer.i'm guessing i'm not the only one.the cost quoted by the dealer for the repair is $687.89 for the part & $195.50 for the labor.

Car will shimmy every 10,000 miles when brakes are depressed.dealer has worked on rotors; still not right.

The "antilock" and "brake" light came con while driving. I noticed some change in braking and immedixately went to ge it checke out. The mechanic said it was a computer component that controlled the rear braking system and that it was common for the intrigue. I then went to my mechanic who maintains my vehicle on a regular basis and he ran a computer diagnostic on my car and also said it was the computer and the motor that operates the rear brakes. This problem is not a normal wear and tear problem for cars and has endangered me and alsois very costly. Both mechanics estamate to repalce the entire system would run about $1700 and there is no way around it. I am cuurently using only my front brakes and if i would have not known to get them checked shorly after replacing both my front rotors and pads the problem would still have gone undetected

The consumer state's while driving at 40 mph apply the brake's and their is a grinding noise and the brake's feel like something is grabbing the brake's and their is rubbing noise and the vehicle has been into the shop four time's for repair and the dealer can't determine the problem.

Steering makes grinding/clunking noise and feel.brakes sometimes clunk at low speeds.

When ever consumer is backing up it very hard to put on brakes. This could cause and accident. Consumer hears a rattling noise and car idles up pass the normal point on the temperature gauge.

Claim #005003683;while traveling at 35 mph and when depressing brake pedal vehicle countinued to travel. Dealer stated brakes rotorsfailed.please provide further information.

Abs brakes failed when comsumer applied brakes the car surged foward causing accident.

Part failed without warning. Backup brake system functioned well enough to get to a place where the vehicle could be towed.

When applying the brakesvehicle pulsated/ pulled to the right.

Brake rotors have warped and needed to be replaced 3 times before the car had 47000 miles.an upgrade of the equipment was purchased with "larger brake rotors" from factory which are obviously defective. The manufacturer has stated that this type of rotor warpage (10000-15000 miles) is "normal wear and tear".the latest diagnosis is that the rotors are warped and are too thin to turn.these rotors were just replaced at 29543 miles.the main driver of this vehicle drives mostly highway driving, so the driver's habits should not cause this problem.manufacturer refuses to fix problem and replace rotors, stating that this is a general maintenance item (similar to replacing brake pads).the "shuddering" that is produced by the defective rotors is very distracting.as this is an item connected with braking, it should be a safety concern to the manufacturer as well.

Vehicle has spent over 20 days at dealer for repairs since purchased. No defcts mentione din the summary.

Abs and brake lights on, brake pedal hard to push. Slid on snowy road as abs not working. Dealer couldn't find problem at first, then replaced abs motor pack for $412.

Whenever brakes were applied in a sudden stop, they causedbrake pedal to pulsate and vehicle to shimmy( a severe vibration). Dealer notified, and some repairs were made, but problemstill reoccurring.

Consumer states when engine is started and backing out movement, consumer hears a click in the front brakes.when driving no problem,. Dealer contacted, and stated this was a factory design flaw.problem still exists.the click is becoming more & more noticeable after you move forward or backward, consumer also stated that transmission feels like it clunks when shifting from reverse to drive, also power steering was replaced. *adj

Consumer noticed abs light on, dealer advised that the abs motor pack was defective.

Anti lock brakes experienced extended stopping distance and pulling resulting in vehcile collision during emergency stopping.

Whenhitting the brakes at a high rate of speed vehicle will jumpinstead of slowing down.consumer feels it's very unsafe.

While driving at 50-55 mph applied brakes and car started to vibrate. Steering wheel would vibrate when the brakes are applied. Dealer was contacted, and repair work was done. Dealer stateddefective and warped rotors.

I have brought this car back to the dealership five times.the first three times they fixed the rotors which were out of round? and replaced the brake pads.the fourth visit they charged me, telling me that that would renew the warranty--not even a month later the same problem happened--sever pulsating when you step on the brakes-- they confirmed it was the same problem and wanted me to pay for it again saying it was due to wear.my contention is that it should have still been under warranty, especially since there was not even a 30 day period between visits!five time is not a charm!

The abs braking system malfunctioned, causing the wheels to lock up and resulted ina crash.dealer could not determine the problem.please provide further information.

Alternator failed $300.00 replacement/abs anti-lock lights come on too often, have to turn car off to reboot system.

Motor pack ,which is a major component within abs. Also, pulsates.brakes have failed, causing abs to be inoperate.please provide further information.

When traveling at 25-35 mp and depressing the brake pedal to make a gradual stop, the brakes started grabbing.pedal traveled to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance, causing an accident. Consumer has contacted the dealer.consumer has been to the doctor several times for leg, neck, and back strain because of this accident.

The rear brakes are insufficiently proportioned to the front causing the front tires to loose traction easily under moderate braking.there is a spongy brake pedal and i have suggested that air in the back lines may be causing this.no action has been taken because they say their tests show the car is within gm guidelines.the problem becomes readily evident when traction conditions are unfavorable with only slight brake pedal pressure the front tires will overcome the available traction available.it is obvious that the rear brakes are barely assisting, if at all.i have 3 other vehicles and in the same conditions, i can't even get the tires to break loose unless i stomp the brakes.but with intrigue, light pressure causes the front tires to loose traction.abs functions properly, but would have never come on if all 4 brake were assisting.and in an abs event, no matter how hard or soft i apply the brake, the car's deceleration rate is dramatically reduced.actually feels like the car is stopping about half as well as before abs activated. These abs events occur all the time.the consistent feeling that the fronts are about to loose traction while the backs are just not contributing is frustrating and life threatening.my wife, brother and i have all had this happen to us while driving this car.i've gone through intersections, into snowdrifts to avoid other vehicles, etc.while the cars next to me can stop with no fuss.another item that shows more evidence to this is, the front rotors were turned twice for warpage and replaced, then turned again for warpage, all under 36000 miles. Also the back tires look like they're still new. Last week, during a nice heavy rain, with abs disabled (removal of a fuse), i showed the mechanic that i could not make the back brakes lock the wheels. This was with both feet mashing on the brake. This is while the fronts were skidding all the way. Please help! abs isn't going to save me, but good brakes sure would help.*a

While traveling abs indicator light stayed on throughtravel. Techniciian stated abs needed to be replaced . Provide further inoformation.the abs traction light came on and the consumer found out that the vehicle was unable to stop on slippery surface.

The windshield wipers do not operate properly, making itdifficult to see the road during inclement weather. Abs light/check light remained on, which the owner's manual informed the consumer that anti-lock brakes may not function.

Abs system activision on dry pavment surfice somewhat rough, i travel this route often and the street surfice has not change .it is my opionion that abs activation is due to poor strut performance however based on the "jump or push down on a corner of the vehical and see if it stop in less than one and one-half bounces the unit sill works.it is my opionion that abs is sensitive to shock ware much earlyer then non abscars. This problem can create longer braking, resulting in accidents and damage.this is not my first not to the nhtsa about this concern but on my 1992 roadmasterhad the same problem , even if the shop said the shock were within safity limitswith the bounce testthe shock change fixed the abscycles in all conditions thatwere normal (non ice)thank you for yourconsideration into this matter of safetybob urmetz

While backing out of garage on a 20% decline brakes in the vehicle failed to engage temporarily. Then, will suddenly engage to stopvehicle. Dealership could not reproduce this problem.consumer stated that this problem occurred approximately 2 to 3 times daily.vehicle has experienced brake problems since purchase, consumer states there has never been any problems with brakes while traveling forward, consumer states possible leak in vacuum unit.

I have had a problem with the abs system on my car for a few months now.when i start my car the abs goes to set itself and the abs light comes on along with the brake light.as i have been researching the problem i have found that it is one of the main problems on the car, but nothing has been done about his problem.it is a very costly fix dealing with the wheel bearings and sensors.my 1998 oldsmobile intrigue is a very solid car, but i believe they have a faulty abs system on them due to the hub assemblies. The average price for such a repair that i have seen is $500- $1100.many drivers of these cars are not getting them fixed as it is costly.thus this there are thousands of intrigues around with the abs turned of increasing the chances of brake failure.

Have had ainti-lock brake system automatically shut off, causing the brakes to lock up and release every 5 seconds.it unfortunately does not do it everyday, in order for the dealership to see the problem, i had my rotors replaced in front and turned in the back, this still has not helped the problem. Traction control system no longer works, and now the fan that blows air out of the vents, will work once and awhile. I have been told the bearings are going out in it, which means no heat, and no air. It will cost 264.00-300.00 to fix. I have had my car for 4 years, and have had nothing but problems with it.

Abs system is failing to operate properly, causing vehicle to be without brakes intermittently. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on numerous occasions, and condition cannot be corrected. Manufacturer/dealer notified.

Car is leased by my wife. We have both had identical incidents, independendtly. Both times, upon backing from complete stop down drives with some leaf cover, application of brakes resulted in absolutely no braking power, despite pressing very hard on pedal. Car moved six to eight feet before brakes applied. Very frightening. Have noted similar problems in your file, which is the reason search was initiated. Someone standing behind car would have been run over, no question. Will be contacting dealer; wife had the second incident today (first time i was driving and warned her about it- really spooked me). This was not an incident of our feet jumping off a vibrating anti-lock pedal; no vibration was sensed at all. Sensation was exactly like sliding on glare ice (i.e. No brake power at all.) also, we were backing slowly, foot on brake with light application when this happened. If all abs systems work like this, there would have been countless disasters and no abs at all by now!thank you for considering this i

Rotors grounded and pads sanded at our expense. Brakes had to be hammered on to stop. Vehicle always feel like when you just touched the brakes that abs was going to kick in. After work was done brakes feel better than they ever have. Since the original date of purchase.

Front brake rotors warped at 26,746 miles -- rotors turned.rotors warped again at 34,363 miles -- replaced.rotors warped again at 47,835.contacted dealer and was informed that oldsmobile had issued a tsb stating, in effect, the "if wheels had been rotated/balanced by 'other than a gm dealership', no further warranty services would be provided on warped rotors."at 47,835 miles, i had rotors replaced with "after market" rotors at a cost of $368.00.at 16,000+ miles later, i have experienced no further problems.supposedly, these "after market rotors" did not contain any composit materials and, therefore, were less likely to warp.the original equipment rotors were part of $230.00 autobahn package.i do not feel that oldsmobile is being fair/truthful regarding problems encountered with these rotors.

When applying the abs brakes they grind and squeak, cause unknown. Dealer has replaced the struts which did not correct the problem.please give any further details.

Had reported noise in abs control module 01/12/00.

While driving the abs light comes on followed by the traction light.this has happend 5 times and all the time the computer acording to the dealer does not leave any codes.this last time all four wheels locked followed with stering wheel locking with all panel lights illuminating.wife spined out of control and stoped at the medium at a major highway.dealer was informed, they gave wife a hard time until i talked to them and requested that vehicle be picked up at my wifes work.just the week before the vehicle was at the dealer for the illumination of the abs and tracking lights.again dealer notified us that there were no codes in the computer. I informed the dealer that if the wife was to have an accident because of brake failure or system failure that i would make it my sole purpose in life to sue them.this week it happend.lucky enough that she did not turned over and no one was hurt.on 8 dec 98 i notified the dealer that we would not drive this vehicle again until they find the problem.

Abs indicator light illuminated.dealer states abs motor pack (fp part # 18024482) failed.dealer indicates this is "common problem" for this vehicle.dealer replaced same.

Consumer states vehicle experiences braking problems.

Brakes making noise, like metal on metal.

As the consumer moves his car down his drive he depressed the brake pedal but there was no brake pressure and the pedal sinks to the floor.

Brakes were repaired at 10k 18k 22k 32k and 54kolds will not admitthere is a problem.

Brakes making noise, like metal on metal.

All three problems (abs failure/ windshield wipers/ oil leak) described by dealer as "very common" for 1998 oldsmobile intrigues. Mr

While driving out of the driveway consumer proceeds to step on the brakes to stop the car, there is no brake pressure. Consumer has to step on the brake really hard for the vehicle to stop.

Brake rotors warp every 15k miles. Rotors turned and pads replaced twice at owners expense. Rotors and pads will need replacement next service.

This is actually wife's leased car (carol j. Nartker). Prior brake failure, on file. No problem source ever determined for that, no incidents since about 10,000mi.. This problem is with warped front rotors. We brought the car in for severe shaking during braking at approx. 8000mi., they turned the rotors then. Problem gradually reoccurred over time. We hoped to have the obviously defective rotors replaced under warranty before turn-in from lease, but gm refuses to replace them, though this is a known problem.my wife is a very gentle driver, all highway, car garaged, i actually pulled calipers and rotors, they are porous castings, too thin to turn. The original pads have virtually no wear on them. As brakes warm on highway, the shaking becomes more severe.

Have seen many postings about rotors warping every 10 to15,000 with both autobahn and standard (mine) on 1998 intrigues.seems everyone gets save song and dance from the dealer - " not covered under warranty - must be your driving style causing the problem. " dealer refused to write up ticket without first having mechanics look at them- for $75 dollars an hour of course. Went to brake shop to have rotors turned down, shop said three out of four rotors were already underspec and couldn't be turned down.bought car with less than 13,000 miles on it; if it already needed the brake rotors turned during that time then that suggests a design flaw to me.rotors warping every 10 to 15,000 miles?thats ridiculous! also brake pedal seems rather soft, too much travel for a car with 4 wheel disc brakes, but then the rear rotors are also very warpedand are rusting because pads not making much contact with rotor.olds really needs to fess up and admit the brake system was made from inferior grade materials.these issues are unheard of on foreign medsize sedans.no wonder olds is going under.

I have a clunking, scratching noise from the front end but i noticed a grinding or squeezy sound when braking. I was told by a certified mechanic that the rotors need replaced, there are deep groves in all but the worst is the back.also was told the the caliper hardware needed to be replaced.i took it to this mechanic because i can get a straight answer from him from out older vehicles i have been getting no where with the dealership(as far as the clunking clicking).when the next day i took my car back to the dealer when i told them that i had a certified mechanic look at it and what to look for, the service manager told me there was a recall on the rotors.they had my car until the next day and i was told then they could not see a problem.this sounded familiar as i had to have a new steering rack (finally put in last year after many trips to the dealer).also on this repair trip they rotated my tires, they put the rt front on the rt back!!!! i want to know why gm has not fixed this problem?it seems that enough documentation has been done. I am taking money out of my pocket and going to get yet another opinion on what action should be done.i do not feel safe driving my children around with all these things going wrong.i think that should be the question, isn't anyone at gm concerned about the safety issue and lives of people who spent good money on their cars?

This car has had thirteen garage visits under warranty so far to either diagnose problems or correct problems.tomorrow, it will have the intermediate steering shaft replaced for the second time by holmes oldsmobile to correct a popping sensation in the steering.other repairs in this regard have been replacement of the control arms and the steering rack.the front brake rotors first warped last year and were turned on 08/19/98;they warped again and were replaced on 12/10/98.on 6/11/99, this second set for the frontwere turned again along with both rear rotors due to warpage;this is grossly excessive.i understand that oldsmobile has discontinued these brakes as an option (labelled "autobahn" ) because of quality problems.please investigate this situation for me as both the steering and brakes evidence ofdurability problems do not instill confidence.

This has been a continuning problem and the gm has told me it is my problem.it has been all 4 brakes.

I have a record of all the repairs, dates and millage.i have found many people on the internet with the same problem.

The steering rack and pinon has been replaced 3 times within 20,414 miles , last replaced at 20,414 miles, my warranty expires in nov. 2000 and will have to pay 900.00 dollars for the next replacement which i am sure it will need. . brake rotors were resurfaced at 9256 miles and are bad again at 20,414 but the dealer and gm customer service said that this was normal wear and the dealer said it is beyond their warranty and will notresurface the rotors again but will resurface for 288.00 dollars. The brakes shutter when theyget warm and causes sever vibration when braking hard. Both these problems appear to be a manufactures defect as other owners are having simulardefects.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Premature wear of brake pads and rotors.dealer has put 6 sets of pads and rotors onvehicle.

Vehicle had a brake problem, rotors warped because they got too hot. Whenputtingfoot onbrake front end of car shuttered very badly. Gmc replaced rotors at 10,000 miles and 20,000 miles; however, problem reoccurred. Took vehicle to dealer. They took off rotors and grinded them smoothly. At40, 000 miles problem was worse.heavy duty rotors on 98 olds over heat during normal usage causing rotors to warp and resulting in shuddering of front end when brake is applied.

Brake pulsates and steering wheel vibrate when applying brakes. Rotor found to be warped .car has the larger optional brakes. Problem re-occurs every 3-5000 miles.

Rear brakes have failed, brake shoes are not even making contact with brakes rotos causing a safety hazard. Please provide further information.

After car sitting, then starting put car in gear there is a popping/clicking in front.i have had new front rack put on, had them check cv joints, and struts.i have taken this car back to the dealer many, many times they can not find the problem.i took a mechanic (not dealer) and he suggested checking the caliper hardware and brakes.i am at my wits end.now my rotors have the deep groves and was told by dealer the could not locate the problem!!! is this car a lemon?

My car would make noise and rattle also steering became difficult , had to replace rack and pinion. I bought my olds intrigue new in june 1998.in jan., 1999 i complained about steering noise andthe dealer (stohlman, alexandria va)says it tightened a plastic part.it continued, and, finally, in june 1999 they replaced the intermediate steering shaft assembly.that didn't cure the problem, and when i again brought it inmarch 15, 2000, they claimed they couldn't reproduce the problem.i have lived with it ever since, and the car has only 40,000 miles.i've always been concerned it's dangerous.i've recently discovered the forum discussions on the edmunds web site, and i find that this is a very common problem that gm denied for years but now apparently admits.it may be a faulty rack in the rack and pinion steering.there is no more olds.can you help?is this a recall item?

This car has had many small problems. Many electrical problems in the air conditioning. The transmission had to be rebuilt at 78000. The biggest problem is in the steering. The intermediate shaft wears out after about 20,000 miles. I am about to have the intermediate shaft replaced for the third time. The first was taken care of by the warranty. The second came out of my pocket and now i am about to have it replaced again.

I have previously filed one complaint in regard to this issue with gm corp. I own a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue, not one that was recalled, however due to the unsafe, eratic, spontanious steering of this vehicle i feel that it should be further investigated. The problem with it is that when i turn my steering wheel to one side or the other all the way, at usually a low speed, it is almost impossible to get the steering system to "turn back", except sometimes, it lashes back around causing my vehicle to go the opposite direction, while turned the other way, the wheel just will not stay at that spot, it comes back around...and hard! if it does not exibit either of these two signs, then it makes a horrible sound and is very hard to turn. At normal speeds (on roadways, etc) it is okay, however at slow speeds mostly in parking lots etc. Is when the problems occur. I almost hit a pedestrian in a parking lot the other day, after turning out, and having the steering "whip" back around and the vehicle go the other way. I was able to regain control of my car because as i mentioned, it was at a slow speed. But what about when it happens again? my 1998 oldsmobile intrigue was not apart of a nation-wide recall of the cars that have the exact same problem!.

A clunky noise originating in the front end of my 1998 oldsmobile intrigue required a $150 steering column lubrication to repair.this problem is detailed in two tsb's on nhsta's web site: #051101 and 010232001b.i consider this charge outrageous based on the fact that in the nearly 50 years i've owned cars, i've never heard of a steering column requiring lubrication.i believe this is a defect in either a design or a manufacturing process that gm is making its customers pay for over and over rather than correcting.*la

Steering wheel spun out of control. Yh

Rack and pinion has been replaced 3 times on this 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. There should have been a recall on this because so many complaints have been filed about this concern. Hard to steer left. The wheels even locked while trying to park it. I have put excess money into this car because of the rack and pinion going bad.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. The contact stated that the rack and pinion failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

A few months ago i was backing up and my steering was very hard to turn to the left.i brought my car to a service station and they told me the rivets that hold the arm inside the rack & pinion broke loose and this was the reason for the hard steering.repair shop told me i needed a new rack and pinion which was very expensive. I did not have the money to repair at the time. Since then the steering has gotten worse.i did some investigation on gm's recalls and there was a recall for the steering rack & pinion1. Father in law went into the hospital and asked us ( daughter and son in -law) to move his car to are house while he was gone. I drove it to our house and had a hard time turning left. I asked my father in-law how long this had been like this and he said about 3 years.i started asking friends and looking on the internet for some advice on why. I found several possible causes and someone suggested that i check for vehicle recalls.i found one that fit perfectly, i called the oldsmobile 800 number and gave the lady the cars vin # and she said that although the car was listed the vin # wasn't included in the recall, but she said i could take it to a gm dealer and they could inspect it to see if it fit the recall and could be added i went to the dealer and they said that the recall didn't apply and there was nothing they could do. So i called oldsmobile back and they said i was given incorrect information. I went through all the vehicle info again and they said that they couldn't fine the recall at all(i got it off you website recall #03082).

Ihave complained several times to my local dealership about my steering locking up on occasion.the problem first occurred approximately 2 years ago.i have taken my car into the dealership to be fixed a couple times and noted that the problem has only occurred during wet weather at slowing speeds (10-15mph with brakes applied), but added that the vehicle became impossible to steer even with the full force of my body weight applied to attempt to turn the wheel. I am fearful that the problem could occur at higher speeds but luckily haven't yet.the problem has occurred at least a dozen times and is frightening to say the least. My olds intrigue had a clunking noise from the front steering and a shimmy when it was turned to the right. Gm resolved it by greasing the intermediate shaft and said it was a "stiction" problem.if that is the case then they only delayed the fix and some time in the future i will have to spend $150 to get it "fixed" again. They either need a seal to retain the grease in this area or a means of servicing this part as opposed to asking the consumer to pay for their poor design practice. Has nhtsa looked into the amount of wear in this joint on the vehicles with a "lack of lubricant" which can actually impact the steering operation of the vehicle?

The steering linkage and left front suspension showed laud noise of grinding and clunking friction at low speed and during turning, mostly toward the left side.the left front wheel seemed to move loosely during these movement, too.dealer diagnosed and replaced the defective intermediate geer shaft at the owner's expense.the problem seemed to have reduced.

Rack & pinion failure under normal driving conditions. On 9/23/05 i had to have firestone tire & service center replace the rack and pinion with a remanufactured one. Old part is no longer available. I contacted oldsmobile toll free number regarding the recall. They checked my vin number and stated that my vin number was not under the recall. However, they could not tell me why only certain intrigue's were recalled and other's were not. However, i feel that if they are aware of this problem on their 1998 oldsmobile intrique's and issued a recall, it should cover all of the units affected. This cost over $700 to repair. About i month ago the steering began being very difficut to turn to the left. It begins from a parked position and continues after the car is in motion. It is as though the car does not have power steering. It actually is more difficult to turn left than a standard steering(no power steering) vehicle. I worry about having to make a sudden left turn to avoid an accident, depending on the circumstances, i may have a problem. I have not had any accidents or driven over any bumps or holes that could cause this problem. I have never seen a car be this difficult to steer to the left. I complained to the dealer that sold me the car but of course that fell on deaf ears. My wife, infant son & i were driving at approx. 35 mph when i turned right i could not pull it back to the left without using brute force. At that point i just had to pull over & call a tow truck. I'm just glad i was driving at the time & not my wife who would not have been able to recover control of the vehicle. Needless to say i am very upset that a 1998 vehicle or any newer vehicle would have such serious safety issues. I sincerely hope your department resolves this with gm. The rack and pinion steering in my 1998 olds intrigue is making a clunking noise. The dealer i took it to says it needs to be replaced. I have researched this problem, and have learned of numerous rack and pinion failures on this model and other gm models. With so very many failures, why must i wait until we have an accident due to steering failure? the most recent recall extends only to build date before 10-97. Ours was built 1-98, but we have the same problem as earlier builds. It is apparent to me this is a total design flaw, not just a bearing related defect. This is a huge safety issue. Inability to steer results in extremely tragic consequences. The latest recall should include all intrigues, as there was no significant changes in the design of this rack and pinion on this car. With safety at issue, help us. The car makers are concerned with profit issues, we look to you to insure safety is part of the product.

The rack and pinion steering has had to be replaced twice on this vehicle.steering suddenly becomes very difficult to turn to the left (as if no power steering at all).if you are turning to the right you can easily turn the vehicle, however, left hand turns are impossible.the dealership making the repair agreed to pay 1/2 of the cost because they agreed the part was faulty and never should have happened the first time let alone twice.gm, however, refused to pay for either of the repairs and would not stand behind theirs .*nlm

Clunking in rack and pinion steering system. We have had this problem looked at three times under warranty and fixed two out of the three times. Vehicle has beenat dealer seven timesfor noise in the front end.the dealer has replaced the intermediate steering shaft, the rack and pinionand has tightened the control arm andfront struts. Manufacturerhas been notified. Ak

Experiencing problem with the power steering whic make it very stiff and difficult to turn.the problem was the pump and possibly the rack and pinion needed to be replaced

Thedealershiprefused to honor recall 03v527000 regardingrack and pinionbecause the rack an pinion leak was not due to the bearings.

The consumer experienced steering difficult while driving.the consumer pulled off the highway and called aaa who then towed the vehicle to the dealer.while waiting to hear from the dealer the consumer lookedon the internet and found a recall.the dealer later informed them that the rack and pinion steeringwas defective. Themanufacturer was contacted andtold him that the vehicle was not covered since it was owned only a short time, and his claim was denied.gear component damage also found.please provide details.

I think the rack and pinions failed due to manufactor flaw so far the third one on car is holding up.

Steering problem, lose of steering assist when turning to the left.the same as described in campaign#: 03v527000.was informed that my vin# was not included in this recall.

Nhtsa recall 03v527000concernin steering gear bearings. Vehicle was taken to the dealer on 3/10/2004 to receive the free remedy for the recall.dealer installed the new lower pinion bearing, but did not replace the gear assembly, and the steering wheel will not turn to the left.dealerrequire dthe consumer to pay for replace ment of gear assembly.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. While driving and making a left turn the power steering would not turn the ball bearings. The power rack and pinion assembly failed and fell on the ground which nearly caused the vehicle to crash into the retainer wall directly in front of him when he made the left turn. The vehicle was towed to his residence and he notified the gm manufacturer who stated that his vin was not included in nhtsa recall 03v527000, component: steering: rack and pinion. He had to pay the repair cost. He did not take the vehicle to the dealer. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Critical steering defect on 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. *mr the steering gear made it hard to make left hand turns .this was caused by a failed spool valve. *scthe consumer was told his vehicle was not included in the rack and pinion recall.

While driving at low speedspower steering failed three times.recall 03v527000 concerning steering gear bearings was issued however the consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.

I have had multiple failures of the front rack and pinion streering gear and related components.each repair has lasted an estimated 12,000 miles until returning.the symptoms are a banging noise at low speeds while turning with some loss of control.during the last failure period, i allowed the situation to continue to see if it would worsen and it indeed has.the present estimate from the dealer to repair the problem is $1,500.previous repairs had been done under warranty.i drive an average of 500 miles per week at hiway speeds and am greatly concerned about my safety.

Oldsmobile intrigue 1998, problems with steering .the consumer contacted the manufacturer and was told there was a recall on the rack and pinion, however it did not apply to the consumer vehicle.

I recently read an associated press article in the paper about an investigation into a steering defect in the 1998 oldsmobile intrigue among other cars. I just had to have the steering rack replaced because of difficulty when steering left. This was the same problem listed in the article.*la

Vehicle steering failed.car could turn right but would not turn left.steering gear had to be replaced at owners cost.

Steering to the left extremely hard when the car is cold.once it warms up it improves.it happens every time i go to drive the car, unless i let it warm up for 10 minutes.

Rack and pinion sxteering failed prematurely under normal usage, crest oldsmobile service manager said that 60,000 miles wasn't considered early failure. The crest general manager told me to call oldsmobile customer assistance. The customer assistance person told me that without the crest service manager's o.k., he could do nothing. The repair cost was $1449.00.

1998 oldsmobile intrigue, steering failure which caused car to veer off the roadway into a light pole causing vehicle to spin.the car is totaled.

Consumer states that steering: gear: shaft pinion failed. Rack and pinion was replaced, gm offered to split the cost, however consumer did not find this acceptable.

The consumer attempting to make a right hand turn in his 1998 oldsmobile intrigue when the steering became stuck.the consumer contacted the manufacturer who informed him that a recall was initiated for the steering rack but the consumer's vehicle was not included due to vin.

While driving 15 mph driver was unable to turn left. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanicdetermined thatrack and pinion needed to be replaced. *tc

Power steering rack failed internally.

A 1998 oldsmoblie intrigue is experiencing the exact same symptoms as recall below.dealer evaluated vehicle and recommended replacing steering gear assembly.this is the exact same action the recall recommended.but my vehicle is vin number is outside the recall.recall - steering gear pinion bearing separationbulletin no: 03062car has intermittent loss of power steering assist when making left turns, usually at low speeds. Power assist is normal in right hand turns.

When applying brakes and turning steering wheel, vehicle pulls and makes a creaking noise. Took vehicle in to check brakes, and dealer stated it was the gear rack. Contact gmc, and they stated this was not a safety issue. *jg

Steering rack failed.yh

The vehicle leaked water under the floor board.

The molding around all four door windowsbecame very hard like plastic, and was chipping . Consumercontacted the dealer. However, they will do nothing to assist the consumer.

Sunvisor inoperative. Nlm

While pulling sunvisor down consumer would have to apply force due tosunvisor breakingfrom case inside vehicle.please provide further information.

This car is a suspect flood car .three inches of water was found under the carpet and rear seat water is still entering the car.

Problem is noise in front end & pulsating movement on steering wheel. Dealer has changed front wheel bearing and tighten a loose bracket, noises still there. Turn wheel and a rubbing sound can be heard. Also, drivers door sticks and door seal almost has hole worn in itwhen getting in car.

Keyless locks failed.

The driver's side door sticks and is very hard to open ftom the inside. His could be hazardous in an accident. Also headrsts collapse randmly when the head is leaned against them. In addition, rear seat belts do not retract.

Have also had to have the door panels replaced due to bubbling within the first year, besides the problems with the windows noted in the survey, i am now replacing the cables on the two left side windows due to kinkingleaving the windows inoperable.

Front doors have sharpened angle--caused a deep scratch on my left side below an armpitwhen accidentally bumped in during entry.

Leak coming in on passenger side door area. Windshields have been replaced. Door was repacked & remolded, but leak still occurs. Floor area on passenger side is wet. Taking vehicle back to dealer.

While drivingthere is vibration in the steering wheel.this problem also occurs when turning.dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle vibrates at speeds upove 45 mph.

After rainstorm, on wet highway, car got into a fishtailing mode.oscillations continued at ever wider swings, without applying accelerator or braking, until vehicle swung out and slid down level highway sideways.traction control was "on."other cars.

Steering wheel "shakes" or "quivers" while accelerating and turning at lower speeds

There was clicking noise coming from the steering column, andsmoke was coming from under the hood due to alteratormalfunctioning.

When turning in either direction, a "clanking" noise was heard.dealer replaced gears in the steering column ,but a noise can still be heard. Dealer cannot determine or duplicate the problem.

If driving at 45mph vehicle will heavily vibrate, also steering column will make a popping noise while turning. Dealer will be notified. Consumer stated the steering shaft had been replaced twice, due to a popping noise, the rear passenger windopw sticks.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. The contact stated that the rear driver side lower control arm bracket failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear driver side lower control arm bracket needed to be replaced but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

Power steering and rack, ball bearings.

Clunking sound as feel through steering column and steering wheel when at a stop and starting, especially when turning from a stopped position and when accelerating at a low speed.

Steering column began making clunking noise at 8265 and at 11015 miles, intermediate steering shaft was replaced.at 16342 noises began again and at 19438, power steering gear assembly replaced and front strut bolts tightened.at 19545 clunk led to tightening of all control arm bolts.clunk still exists.

Vehicle has vibration at all speeds, in ride, brake and gas pedal.steering column knocks. Dealership damaged door interior panel and ext. Body damage.filed car under nj lemon law, dealership does not acknowledge any problem on final repair.seeking refund under lemon law

Knocking in left-front wheel when turning/braking, causing sensation in steering wheel/brake pedal; brakes pulsate severely when pedal depressed

Noise left front and turning, intermittent.vibration felt in steering wheel, gas and brake., 35mph and under.dealer finds nothing wrong.

Clunking noise on front suspension.defective parts replaced already twice! as on 6/16/99 i got the same problem again.

Vehicle has beenat dealer seven timesfor noise in the front end.the dealer has replaced the intermediate steering shaft, the rack and pinionand has tightened the control arm andfront struts. Manufacturerhas been notified. Ak

Whendriver turns her vehicle to the left or right.she hears a clunking and winding noise.

When making turns or going around curves it feels like the front wheels are loose which could cause a loss of vehicle control. Dealer has replacedlower control arm twice and rack and pinion once, but defect keeps reoccurring.

When applying the abs brakes they grind and squeak, cause unknown. Dealer has replaced the struts which did not correct the problem.please give any further details.

Fuel pump/steering rack and pinion/both front struts/battery,and engine failures.

Struts failed.nlm

Was driving behind a semi and car started rocking violently. Turned off and was going across railroad tracks and heard a loud clank noise. Was then unable to drive car at highway speeds. The sway bar broke off of one side. When item was replaced one whole side was broke off and the other side was cracked. I retained the original part.

Front stabilizer bar has broken while in routine use. Likely cause is fatigue failure indicating that bar was undersized or there was a manufacturing defect.

At low speedsit is difficult to make left hand turns.dealer determined the bearings malfunctioned.

Rear suspension (3/4") bolt failure.bolt had fractured at the neck under the head.80% of the area of the fracture was covered in rust, with 20% showing signs of a recent failure.the area of failure on the bolt head showed indications of torsional stress.

Bolt head broke off.bolt attached rear control arm to wheel bearing.external portion of bolt head looks fine, but portion where the head attaches to the threads is completely rusted through.i saw the broken bolt head on the garage floor, otherwise i never would have checked for it.with the head broken off, the bolt could possibly fall out of the hole, and the frame would drop significantly over that wheel.the weight of the vehicle likely kept the bolt in place.it cost $51 to have the bolt replaced at an oldsmobile dealership.the old bolt head is available.

During a safety check/tire balance prior to an extended roadtrip, my mechanic found all four tires were suffering tread seperation. The two in the rear had 4 to 6" splits in the inside sidewalls, and both front tires had broken belts, forcing me to purchase a new set. Also, according to the mechanic, two of the tires had plugs, although i am the only driver and have never had a flat with this car. The tires were properly maintained and balanced since new. The tire dealer marked the tires to be returned to goodyear for possible adjustment, but goodyear has not responded. I do not have any of the requested tire information since i do not have the tires. They were original equipment on my 1998 olds intrigue.( dot number: )

The finishon the rims peeled off and the valve stem leaked air.the part has been repaired, however the problemrecurred. Please provide additional information.

Car went to a meineke shop nov2015. In bolingbrook, il at 1330 w boughton rd.not told the car was under recall at time of repair work-should i be compensated?!?or at least the $$ returned for the original work done at the meineke shop nov2015? i have receipt. See below for details. Background: the 1998 oldsmobile intrigue the wheel did not turn, car seemed to be ready to die out-drove it to a parking lot at local park a few blocks away; called persons who knew something about cars; decided to drive it drive slowly-with flashers on to a local repair shop (meineke) in bolingbrook, il; they took a look; said a pulley broke/a new serpentine belt was needed. Never was there a mentionup that this car was under recall! all they said was-"it is an older car. " i paid $350-$400 in repair work; drove the car 1-2 days. It kept dying out while driving. I went back to the same meineke shop; again no mention came up that the car was under recall! they just said"what can we say,iit is an older car. Unless you want to pay more $$$, we can't (or won't) do anything more for you"no more work was done by them; i decided to slowly drive the car back to the house, and leave it on the drive way, where it has been parked since that time. In late december/2015 i found out the car was in recall via a letter from gm; it is unsafe; do not drive it & parts would not be in until feb2016 -last week it was sold for parts & towed away should something more be done? some sort of responsibly taken by the repair shop since it was under recall? also, should gm have paid for any damage done by driving the car not knowing it was in recall? the car did start on fire a few months later-one last try at deciding what to do to have itbefore it was "junked" ; note: vin # given here is actually the recall # on vehicle from gm

Was having an oil leak and couldsmell burnt oil.i was driving down the road and it started to no have any power so i turned into tsc and all of a sudden i seen smoke under the hood.i opened up the hood and it was on fire at the exhaust manifold.the manager from tsc came out with extinguisher and we go t the fire out right away before it was any bigger.a friend of mine just told me today that there was a recall on this for this reason.my dad had it taken in for that recall in russellville, arkansas.what every they did didnt fix the problem.i am just glad it was caught right away.he had just left the house and was only 3 to 5 miles down the road when it did this.

Called to set appointment for recall 15757 and dealer called back and left message they were ordering the part.over a month they were called back three times-left message.finally got a call back this morning and they said it was not in their system and they would call back.just trying to get a fire hazard fixed before it happens!

The windshield wipers on this vehicle have worked poorly for years and are getting worse with time. For a long time, they would just stop. We took the vehicle in for repair and the repair man simply tightened a bolt. From that point on, we did that on our own whenever the wipers stopped. Now for the past year or so, there have been times, just like the one last week, when my husband was on his way home from work and the wipers stopped and wouldn't come back on at all! he was stuck on the side of the expressway, in a horrible rainstorm, for 40 minutes. Very unsafe. We have spent a lot of time, money and countless worry on this problem and think it should be taken care of. We would like to give this car to our son who is leaving for college in a few months, but worry about this issue.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue. The contact stated that the windshield wipers stopped working while driving approximately 55 mph in the rain. The failure occurredthree other times and, sometimes, the wipers would remain in the up position and would not move. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired twice for the same failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired again. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 01/11/2017*ct

I own a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue gl.to date, i have had three of the four window regulators break.there is a small plastic "keeper" imbedded into the otherwise metal regulator track, that secures both ends of the cable that transports the window up and down on its track.in all cases, this plastic keeper has broken, thus releasing one or both ends of the regulator cable, causing the window mechanism to fail, and allowing the window to fall down inside the door.i have temporarily secured the windows in the up position to keep the weather out.only the driver's door regulator remains operable; passengers can not roll down their windows.though it is not a life threatening situation under normal operation, it could cause a problem if someone in the vehicle needed to exit the vehicle by a means other than the door (say in the event of a side-impact collision when the door may not be able to be opened), and was not able to roll down the window.i am disturbed that the identical problem has occured on three of the four windows. I'm wondering when the fourth one will fail, and of course, feel this is a manufacturer defect that could lead to a life threatening situation if left unrepaired.i have done nothing to promote these part failures, and propose they be replaced.please help.

Vehicle was parked. Tried to open passenger's side powerwindowand had trouble openingit. Finally, opened andit pulled the rubber moulding down.this has happened to the passenger's front window.also back seat driver window moulding coming off, could cause water damage.

Have also had to have the door panels replaced due to bubbling within the first year, besides the problems with the windows noted in the survey, i am now replacing the cables on the two left side windows due to kinkingleaving the windows inoperable.

I have a 1998 oldsmobile intrigue and have had 3 of the windows fall down into the door and stop working.this happened at three different times when i was doing nothing more than just driving along.i feel that this could have been a safety hazard had i been driving on the highway.i have contacted general motors oldsmobile division and they apparently do not feel that this should be an item that is recalled.when i was in the local dealership, the service manager at that time casually mentioned that they have to repair alot of these on this model, as well as, the alero.i might could understand if it was just 1 window.i would probably think that it was just a faulty part, but for it to happen to 3 windows is absolutely ridiculous!the gm lady told me that the only thing they could do was to visit with me about purchasing another gm vehicle. She told me that i had waited too long to do any thing about it.i had been waiting due to the fact that i was told that it costs so much and i could not afford to have it repaired.i told her that i absolutely would not ever purchase another gm vehicle is that is all they could do to help their customers when they needed it.to get these windows fixed is incredibly expensive.it has been about 2 years since it happened and i would desperately like to have them fixed, but affording it is out of the question.i would also like to prevent this from happening to other people.i very frequently see other vehicles like mine who have had the same thing happen to them.thank you for taking the time to consider this matter.

Windshield wipers parking improperly and occasionally fail.

This has happened twice so far. The first time, my windshield wipers stopped in a vertical position instead of the normal horizontal position. I was told by the dealer ship, that the manufacturer stated this happens due to the stopping mechanism getting wet. My warranty wouldn't cover it because it was a weather related repair. I guess i am supposed to drive my car with a big tarp over it, so that nothing gets wet? i paid $300 to get a new wiper motor etc. About 10 months later, the same thing happens. I am not paying another $300 to fix it, if it is going to keep happening. I think that the manufacturers should look into this as being a recall. If something is getting wet inside the wiper motor, and $300 isn't going to fix it........

Windshield wipers failed to park correctly.they park up in the field of view.

I have had two drivers side windshield wiper failures with this vehicle. The dealer had "tighented" a bolt after the first failure. It didnt take long for the wiper to quit working again. The first failure was during a very heavy rain -the second was while using the wiper washer control - why cant they fix this problem.
