My dig. Dash work half the time and not the rest.i can not see my speed, gas or mileage.also every now and then smoke come out from my steering column.

Battery had a short when windshield wiper fluid was added to vehicle.the vehicle had defective brake system requiring complete replacement of all rotors, calipers and brake pads.the transmission also failed.

While driving vehicle would miss/jerk or stop,took to dealership, was informed problem was battery/alternator,had replaced both, dealer cannot repair problems after being in shop for several times.also, replaced tail lights and turn signal bulbs.

While driving, a snapping sound was heard, alternator light came on, driver pulled off highway, alternator froze causing a fire which broke the sepentine belt, alternator replaced twice on 8/15/00. *cj

While driving on the highway noticed flames under the hood. Consumer put fire out.mechanic said it was the alternater.

Alternator has been replaced three times in 4-5 years, dealer cannot duplicate the problem.vehicle makes roaring noise and stops running.

While driving home from racine, we crossed the rr tracks in sturtevant and the cutlass just died. We had lights but no ignition. We summoned police to call a towtruck to tow it to frank gentile oldsmobile. After three days they called to tell us the did a diagnostic test for $84 which determined my starter shorted out and blew a 60 amp fuse; i questioned why the starter had anything to do with it since the car was moving, but they assured me it was the starter that shorted therefore blowing the 60 amp fuse that shut down the ignition!that cost me $401.then on june 19, 2001 coming home from racine going over the same rr tracks in sturtevant ; the cutlass did the same thing; lost ignition and died. I had it towed back to frank gentile again. This time they had it for a week. Then thy called me and told me that upon further testing it showed my wires were fried along with the switches in my steering column and needed to be replaced along with the 60 amp fuse that blew again! this time i was getting a little suspicious because of them telling me it was the starter the first time. So i told them to do the repairs but give me the alleged defective parts. After looking at the wires and switches they took out , i questioned them that the wires didn't look fried to me; than they changed their story and said there was a short in them and assurred me that this was the problem; that cost me $671.88.yesterday while driving the cutlass into racine we went over a bump in the road and the cutlass died again for the third time! so we had to have it towed back to frank gentile again. This morning, 7/2/01 my wife and i went down to frank gentile and complained vigiorously. We told them that this was a safety hazord that this car keeps cutting out like that; and they ought to put someone on the problem that knows how to solve electrical shorts and not keep swapping parts at my expense that some backyard mechanic might do. This is an ignition electrical failure!

Consumers vehicle is experiencing the exact same problem as his recalled (00v-287) pontiac grand am for the starter which resulted in many other electrical repairs (3 battery, 6 alternators and a new starter), consumer believes same recall should be issued for this vehicle.nlm

The last three olds i have had1982-87-93 allhave had the trans go out with under 100,000 miles. I have all ways gotton 5 year 100,000 mile warenties so i intended to keepmy cars. There is a deffinit pattern of problems with the olds transmissions.again afterall the money i have spent the trans is still not right. I am not saying the dealer is ripping me off but there is a deffinit problem. After drivingfor a half an hour,vehicle was parked for 25 minutes. Suddenlyhorn began to sound. When consumer went out to see the problem, noticed smoke at the base of the windshield, near the center of the dashboard. The smoke was dark black. Flames then rose into the top of the interior.fire was put out by consumer after disconnecting the negative battery cable. Dealer has been contacted by insurance.

I have had 3 oldsmobiles 1982 -87- 93 all 3 of my transmissions have gone out at under 100,000 miles i have all ways maintained them i have allways bought 100,000 5 year waranties.on my 93 i never had a check engine lite go on the dealer said i had a bad sensor and a bad wire harness after 750.00 dollars which is a lot of money for me it still does not work right.all so at 96000 miles only 5 months after my 5 year warenty was up i had to replace my main computer(ecm)again no check engine light ever came on . The way i take care of my cars this should not be happining. Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was parked, a puddle of brake fluid was observed on the ground underneath the driver's side seat.upon further inspection it was determined that the brake lines had rusted along the fittings. The contact confirmed that the vehicle had not been driven in poor weather conditions and that the vehicle was stored in a garage.the manufacturer was alerted but the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection.there is a nhtsa recall # 93v121000 regarding the service brakes lines, piping, and fittings.the vehicles vin was not included in the recall.updated 6/23/2006 - the vehicle's oil pan, transmission pan and gas tank also rusted..

Camshaft position sensor failed, causing loss of engine, power brakes and power steering.

This engine failure should have never happen. Poor quality parts.

When driving at any speed and coming to a stop vehicle shuts down without any prior warning. Also,and electrical locks keep poppiing up and down and making noise, and the trunk keeps popping up.

Consumer parked car in a parking lot and caught on fire from the engine .ttconsumer states while pulling into a parking lot , she saw smoke coming from under the left side of the hood, fire department could not open hood and used an ax and crow bar to open it to put out the fire.

I highly recommend not to buy a cutlass with the 3.4 dohcthe engine in this car sucks i've had to replace almost everything motor wise inthis car. From a main seal to head gasket to spark plugs and wires which to fix anything on this car with 3.4 cost you your life!! brakes have been replace 3 times also andback rotors rust easy and can't be fixed ..so they say!!!

1993 cutlass ciera.consumer writes in regards to air conditioner conversion kit upgrade and power steering issues.*ldthe consumer stated the manufacturer was notified, but declined assistance due to the vehicle's age and mileage. Also, the a/c conversion kit was not installed at a gmc dealer.

Air condition unit leaked unknown fumes possible freon entering compartment. Dealership states definitely a/c related but can't find location of failure.tt

The contact owns a 1993 oldsmobile cutlass. The consumer stated the driver's side sun visor has a decal on the underside stating that the vehicle is equipped with a driver's side air bag. A fuse is in the box, where it indicated an air bag fuse. However, there is no air bag.the consumer stated gm failed to notify consumers that some of the vehicles produced could have an erroneous driver side sun visor decal stating that the vehicle is equipped with a driver side air bag. Turn signal switch is defective also, . Brake light wiring is routed through the turn signal switch. This causes the left brake light to come on, but right & high mounted light work the way they suppose to do. Mechanic indicated parts of brake light are on national back order.problem has existed for over 5 months.

Fuel line and brake line too close causing rubbing and chaffing which could lead to hole in lines.

On both doorslatch system is not working, whenturningkey the lock pops up likedoor is open. But, whenpulling handle its still locked.consumer also states that the bolt for the brake caliper backs out on a regular basis, causing wheels to lock up ruining one of consumer tires and rim.

Door handles no longer work from the outside. Children trying to open them after they are broken get their fingers pinched .

Consumer started vehicle and thenhad to waituntilvehicle heats up before shiftingtransmission so that vehicle could move.samething happended when she shifted vehicle into reverse, and finally vehicle jerked like a manual transmission.

While driving 20 mph there was a loud noise,frontright dropped, lost control of vehicle, but was able to stop safely. Dealer informed consumer that right lower ball joint had broken. This causedaxle to break according to dealer.

While making a left turn rear right axle broke and the wheel fell off. All the lug s:nuts and studsthat go into the drum were still in tack.

Rightfront wheel bearing rusted and broke . Mechanics said it happened because the lubricant was washed out because the water enter the unit. The dealer's service manager said it was unusual. Since same unit is in the left side (although the independent mechanic who replaced the broken part check and said it is okey) it could happened too. The results if these happening while moving fast is that the driver would lost control of the vehicle.

Started vehicle shifted into third gear however it did not engage vehicle in reverse. Causing loss of control.tt

Driver's shoulder seat belt tensioner failed to retract backwards. Took vehicle to dealership & was informed by mechanic the belt tensioner was not working anymore. This caused a lack of protection for driver.

Front seat driver, seat back collapsed on impact.

When braking, the passenger seat back flies forward.it has almost since the time i bought the car in oct 1992.i don't know exactly how fast i have to be going but probably is around 40-50 mph. And put on brakesin emergency situation.

I have had a lot of problems with the rear disc brakes equipped on my cutlass supreme. There was a class action suit against gm for this reason. I believe gm should resolve, pay for and reimburse those of us who have had to deal with these cars.

I attempted to brake for a turning car and was unable to slow down. My mechanic said that the rear brake calipers were seized.

Vehicles had sudden and complete loss of braking capability with pedal to going floor, after pumping brakes partially the braking system came back/replaced master cylinder/brake lining/rotors.

Recently checked the recall information for my auto.10/16/95 received notice of weak safety belt anchorages. This problem was taken care of. I have never received any notice about the brake loss due to improperly manufactured brake hose.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was parked, a puddle of brake fluid was observed on the ground underneath the driver's side seat.upon further inspection it was determined that the brake lines had rusted along the fittings. The contact confirmed that the vehicle had not been driven in poor weather conditions and that the vehicle was stored in a garage.the manufacturer was alerted but the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection.there is a nhtsa recall # 93v121000 regarding the service brakes lines, piping, and fittings.the vehicles vin was not included in the recall.updated 6/23/2006 - the vehicle's oil pan, transmission pan and gas tank also rusted..

1993 cutlass ciera.consumer writes in regards to air conditioner conversion kit upgrade and power steering issues.*ldthe consumer stated the manufacturer was notified, but declined assistance due to the vehicle's age and mileage. Also, the a/c conversion kit was not installed at a gmc dealer.

On june 10th, two days ago, i totaled my 93 oldsmobile cutlass supreme on i-93 in new hampshire. While my year (93) has not been recalled, 88 -91 were all recalled for separation of the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear as a result of corrosion of 2 bolts where road salt use is high, including in massachusetts.i have been commuting from boston to hanover nh to teach for the past 10 weeks. A couple weeks ago i started worrying about steering.had two rear tires replaced last week and on the day of the crash a ball joint and a tie rod replaced and an alignment.but on 93 south in londonderry i started to move into the passing lane, saw a car that had been in my blind spot so swerved a bit to the right.but i could not straighten my car out - it just kept going right, then it swerved to the left, i crashed into the guard rail, bounced backwards and stopped horizontally to the traffic blocking both lines of traffic.at first i assumed i was at fault for losing control of the car.then on the way to the tow lot, the driver asked me if a tie rod had snapped.i said i didn't know but had just had one replaced.at the tow yard, he and a car dealer (both inspectors) checked - the work i had done looked fine but upon further investigation, the steering wheel shaft had separated from the steering wheel gear which they said should never happen - they should be bolted together.given my description of loss of control and the bizarre skid marks, they are quite sure this caused the accident.and now i'm thinking this may have had something to do with the first skid-out but i talked myself into thinking it was tires and rain and alignment, not steering.on the recommendation of the tow guys mentioned above, i left a phone message with nhtsa but havent heard.the tow lot owner needs to know if any parts should be saved before crushing it.this was a harrowing experience i would not want anyone else to experience.

Difficulty steering vehicle, when making a right turn, steering wheel locks up/doesn't straighten to forward position due to caster being out of adjustment.

Power steering gone completely because hose was to close to the firewall chaffing the power steering hose over time.

The two doors swing on the hinges with no stop period from bein wide open to closed. It appears the "door stop" for lack of a better term, does not work properly.

Abs: brakes have gone all way out four times since december 1993; hear grinding metal sound when pressed pedal; front end shimmies;pulls to right;pedal to floor

While driving 20 mph there was a loud noise,frontright dropped, lost control of vehicle, but was able to stop safely. Dealer informed consumer that right lower ball joint had broken. This causedaxle to break according to dealer.

Due to a defective mcpherson strut which broke 4 times. Struts have been replaced four times in about over a year.

Vehicle is emmitting noise from the front end, midas diagnosed it as being the front wheel bearings.having them replaced, the noise continues.*jg

While driving at 4 mph on boulevard vehicle went out of control. Off road the steal plate control arm broke in half. Dealer contacted , and cannot remedy the problem. Ordered rear axle trailing arm assembly. Problem still exists. Provide further information.

Vehicle had a loud bumping noise coming from the trunk. Dealer said that the rear trailing arm needed to be replaced.

During the national highway traffic safety administration recall, campaign number 98t-002 of june 30, 1998, i brought my car to sears where i had purchased the named tires.i was told that the lot numbers of my tires were exempt from the recall and should not fail due to the recall defects.the 2 tire failures that happened in this past week exactly matched the reason for the recall.since my lot numbers were pjmoaklr 486 and 416, they were not replaced.i ask that the recall be opened, at kelly-springfield's expense, to include all tires sold from sears and ntb for the last 2 years.although the 2 tires that failed have been replaced under the manufacturers warranty for manufacturer's defects, i am afraid that my life and/or the life of my family will be in jeopardy should another tire fail under high speed conditions.please feel free to contact me at the provided email address for additional documentation and/or evidense of these events.thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.stew danko( dot number: 98t-002 tire size: p205/70r15 )

Driving or stationary, keyless remote is uncontrolable, door unlocked/trunk opened on its own even without control in the vehicle. Dealership not sure if it's an eletrical problem.

I have heard of a class action lawsuit in this regard, do you have any information?

While backing out of a parking lot , vehicle shot out in reverse, stayed in reverse and hit (3) other vehicles before coming to a stop, vehicle is being repaired. Damages totaled $6,500.

While making a left turn rear right axle broke and the wheel fell off. All the lug s:nuts and studsthat go into the drum were still in tack.

When the brakes are applied the pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Owner states that when coming to a stop the wheels become very hot. The dealer has been notified.
