My car stalled in traffic without warning or prior occurance. Would not re-start. After 6-8 dangerous minutes stopped in the middle of the road, the car started and i pulled over to the side. Problem was diagnosed as a faulty ignition module and was repaired.a short time prior to this incident, i was traveling 65 mph on the highway. I shudder to think of the consequences of a sudden power failure and stalled car in the midst of fast-moving traffic. While i realize that 12-year-old parts will fail due to age, i wonder if a back-up power source could not be made available at least to be able to bring the car safely to the side of the road. Or is the possibility of stalling just a presumed and accepted hazard of driving?
Electronic control module failed.

Dt: problem began a couple of weeks ago. There was smoke coming from steering column. Problem was noticed while in motion. It seemed to happen when it was hot outside. Vehicle was not overheating. Then,left and right turn signals went out as well as the horn. Upon inspection by the mechanic, it was reported that there was a bad switch in the steering column ,and the wires were frayed. Vehicle is now in the shop. Owner contacted gm, and provided her vin, was told there were no recalls.
Vehicle caught on fire while driving due to an electrical short in the engine compartment area.
While driving, operator noted all indicator lights on the dash flashed simultaneouslyand went out.operator immediately noticed smoke coming from under hood.pulled over to side of road, stopped vehicle.opened hood.flames were coming from left front side of engine compartment, midway between dash & left front tirewell.fire melted wiring, battery, liquid containers and damaged remaining components.no prior indication nor warning of potential problem observed.

The control panel flashes on and off and the brightness changes when headlights are on.the dimmer control has no affect and the panel flashes brightly at night.the gas tank releases fumes when it's filled and a suction pressure builds up in the tank, causing air squeaks at the gas tank cap.the rims leak and the tires (which are brand new) have to be filled constantly. The heater barely blows hard enough and the air conditioner doesn't work at all.an auto mechanic told me that his 92 cutlass supreme has the same exact problems. I didn't mention the control panel to him and he asked if mine was malfunctioning like his was. The steering wheel is off center as well, and has to be turned to the left even on a straight road to keep the tires straight

We were backing out of our driveway on saturday, july 21st.when i braked to shift to drive the car made a thunk and jumped.the engine was still running and i had no steering.my wife and i got out of the car and looked to see the engine and surrounding components tilted back to the ground.apparently, the rear engine mounts rusted through causing the components to fall.we called a local repair shop to tow the car and the owner said that he may have remembered seeing a recall on these cars and that he would check on monday.he said that there was a recall on some fords for the same problem.one on the neighbors mentioned seeing a speciial on 60 minutes regarding this problem with this make and model of car. Today the auto repair shop called and said that he called gm and there was not a recall for our car for that particular year.i drive this car on a busy highway back and forth to to work.this could have been a very serious accident had it happened the night before driving home at 65 mph in heavy traffic.a nine year old carshould not lose it engine and steering.i am wondering if this is a problem with other years and makes (i.e. Pontiiac grand prix) why they would not recall all as this is a very serious safety issue.please contact me with any further questions.
When slowing down to abot 18 mph vehicle will began jerking then shuts off. When driving on incline vehicle does the same thing and also you would hear metal rattling, dealer replaced alternator but problem still exist. Vehicle has been to dealer 4 to 5 times consumer is concern that dealer would not find problem before (june 27, 1997 ) warrnety expires.
There is a recall for 91 olds, models for this componet,mine is a 92 and has the same problem.needs to be upgraded to 92 also.my engine is currently sagging becuase of a rusted out bolt and mount. This is unexpectable and needs to be addressed.thank you ryan olson.

The consumer was unable to remove the spokes on the hubs or the lug nuts on the tires because the wrench provided for the vehicle was made of plastic.please provide further details.

On level ground, from cold start, column mounted shift lever exhibited resistance from <park> to <reverse>.when in reverse, automatic transaxle did not engage reverse gears.when in neutral, transaxle appeared to be in drive gear, though as precaution, only simple usage of 1st gear was tested for troubleshooting.all drive gears operate normally, though with slight slippage.fluid is good color and smell, middle of hash marks while idling after 20 min run.no proper reverse exists, though if engine is turned off with gear selector in <reverse> the car may be rolled as though in neutral.limited understanding of underlying mechanics of transaxle, though believe that this is how the mehcanism should work.car has been run at highway speeds for 20+ min and with new alternator added previous day, has more torque than ever (old alternator was original).reverse was engaged numerous times since alternator change though no adverse consequence could seem to be possibly related, this is able to at least be asserted.thank you for your assistance.dave coleman

Shift indicator never felected correct shift, neutral showed reverse, d1 was in overdrive and various other combinations.shift indicator moved up and down requiring repeated shifting changes to correct gear.when car was in drive and stopped had to go back to park or switch to another drive on indicator for car to move.i brought to transmission repair shop and was told that this caused transmission failure and transmission had to be rebuiltat the cost of $1,200.

The passenger's side seat belt would not retract. The lower lap belt and shoulder harness was replaced in oct of 97. The owner is experiencing the same problem with the driver's side belt. The belt is very loose and would not tension properly to restrain occupant.

At 30,000 miles dealer replaced the front brake pads and resurfaced the brakes. Also,rear tire came off.

Cruise controle sticks/ vehicle idles, and will not stop unless consumer shifts to neutral.
After startingcar in the morning it idles at 2-3 tachometer and will rev up to 3.5 and will not drop to 1 or less.when it is put in reverse to back out of the garage you must drop to neutral or the brakes will not stop the movement.after going 2-5 miles the engine will slow down and the brakes work better.it has been in the dealer's service department several times only to be told there is no problem.every morning it is like this.
The control panel flashes on and off and the brightness changes when headlights are on.the dimmer control has no affect and the panel flashes brightly at night.the gas tank releases fumes when it's filled and a suction pressure builds up in the tank, causing air squeaks at the gas tank cap.the rims leak and the tires (which are brand new) have to be filled constantly. The heater barely blows hard enough and the air conditioner doesn't work at all.an auto mechanic told me that his 92 cutlass supreme has the same exact problems. I didn't mention the control panel to him and he asked if mine was malfunctioning like his was. The steering wheel is off center as well, and has to be turned to the left even on a straight road to keep the tires straight
