Air bag did not deploy after being hit front and back

No summary listeed for above vehicle.

The consumer had an accident in which the vehicle was damaged, considerably and the driver suffered several injuries, but the air bag failed to deploy.

While driving at 55mph, rear wheels felt as if they locked, vehicle began to fishtail or swerve in rear end. The vehicle accelerated over the median and hit an oncoming vehicle.neither drivers side nor passengers side airbags deployed.consumer states that the roads were wet and it felt as though the rear tire hit a water pocket, consumer states that vehicles brake or awd system failed also due to the skid marks, there were four injuries in the accident.

On 11 apr 2005, i purchased a 1999 oldsmobile bravada from a nh dealer, with approx. 74000 miles on it. Within one week, the vehicle was returned for a bad water pump, and driver's window switch. During the week of 21 april, i had the alternator replaced. This vehicle had a nh state inspection sticker, but it has yet to pass a ma state inspection. The air injection pump that assists in the air/fuel mix has been updated by gm, but their "update" allows them to call it something other than a recall, so, it would cost me an additional $400-500. For this "update".in sep of 2005, i noticed a gradually growing noise from the front end. I was told the entire front end was wiped out. The safety issues alone were exhaustive. The following had to be replaced, and were done, to the cost of $1700.: pitman arm / idler arm / upper, lower ball joints / cv joints,axles,boots/ entire front hub assemblies / front brakes (rotors, pads, calipers) / 4 tirescurrently, the driver's front door is sagging due to poor door pins and bushings. Maaco wants $1200. To replace the hinges, pins, and bushings, and repair/replace the striker plate and surrounding area. The directional signal sounds constantly even without using the signal, and goes away when you step on the brake (!?) the key frequently gets stuck in the ignition and won't come out. Last month yet another alternator had to go in as the other failed. I had this back in the shop yesterday 01feb06 for a banging sound coming from the front end, and the technician advised me that he called gm. They confirmed there is a defective front torsion bar in these blazer-type vehicles. The technician stated it would cost me around $250. It never ends. I am truly exhausted both mentally and financially with this car. Please provide any assistance you can. The dealer won't take it back, will not assist, and gm does not want anything to do with me. They won't even take my call. I truly fear for my and my family's safety.

Design of the horn is very difficult to press to engage, requires excessive effort.mjs

The horn has failed to work for the last seven month; on july 3, 2000, the gear shift lever remained stuck after starting the engine, preventing the ability to put the car into drive.the dealer fixed the problem. On august 3, 2000, the gear shift was stuck again.the dealer kept the car for a week fixing the problem. The car was returned on august 11, 2000; and that evening the gear shift was stuck again.this is a third incident in a month.the owner is unable to use the vehicle.

Vehicle stalled backing out of a parking spot. Upon attempting to restart, vehicle started smoking from under hood. Fire dept responded to extinguish the fire. Vehicle was totalled.

On 2-12-1999 my wife was struck from behind by another vehicle and driven into a semiduring a whiteout on i94 near marshall, michigan.auto-owners insurance decided to repair the vehicle over our objections since this involved completelyrebuilding the vehicle and installing a new frame.the car was in the body shop 11 weeks and we took possession only when the insurance company said they would only guarantee to repair any future items.our first noticable objection was that door gaps were 125% greater than others.this led us to inspect the rest of the car very carefully.the following items were of concern.i will only go into what i would consider safety items not cosmetics.loud vibration which turned out to be hood latchs never secured (this bothered me since it was indicative of other possible flaws from being completely rebuilt by hand."grabbing" during tight turns - was repaired twice under bulletin 86-74-02 for "launch shudder" - our steering problem is not during takeoff but only the tight turns.the instruments occassionally go wacko and give false readings particularly the overhead.the airbags did not deploy ina crash that destroyed the frame.from all i have read tjhis could reoccur in a future collision and perhaps the inverse could occur and premature deployment result.both the insurance company and the body shop(olds dealership) have given me letter assuring me they will fix any future defects but not guaranteeing they not occur.rob the agent at les

As i was on the way home from work driving on a city street and i came to a stop i downed my windows. I realized a burning smell. A little later, as i pulled up to my house the smell seemed to had gotten worse and i got out of the car and upped my hood. There had seem to be oil leakage but i'm not sure it was late. I'm not a mechanic but i kind of know a bit. From my inspection i may have oil leaking on a hot exhaust manifold. The burning smell is not the strongest but its sensible. I am very scared to drive my vehicle and i hope for it not to catch fire. I service my vehicle for regular oil changes and things and i don't understand the issue. May it be my valve cover gasket? i'm scared for my life to drive my nieces to school now. Unfortunately, they have been catching the carta bus. It hurts my heart i have this problem with such a reliable gm car. Please help. I'm terrified it may even catch fire in the driveway!

The veichle wants to flip over by itself when driving down the road the seat belts are twisted the radiator leaks here and there along with the transmission fluid and sometimes the oil leaks

The heater has failed to work this year at all. The system was flushed and radiator fluid changed with oldsmobile rated fluids. This vehicle has had no major problems and has been good other than seatbelts not locking and dome lights are inoperable. I am going to assume it could be the heater valve and get that replaced so hopefully that does the trick.

Vehicle made a loud sound. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer for inspection, dealer informed consumerthat engine wasdefective.

1. The oil cooling lines were leaking.i feel that they should not fail at only 76,000 miles.2. The pinion seal has failed twice.this appears to be a manufacturer's defect.

I have a 1999 oldsmobile bravada that has developed a serious leak in the oil lines (hoses) going to the oil cooler.i also owned a 2000 gmc sonoma that developed the same leaks while under warranty.my mechanic said they have replaced the oil lines on several vehicles with the 4.3 and 350 engines.they have also replaced 3 engines where the oil lines failed and the engine lost all oil.it seems this problem exists on nearly all if not all of gm's products using the rubber oil lines.can anything be done to correct this problem or reimburse our repair costs due to an apparent defect?not to mention the damage to the engines and garage floors.thank you ron.*la

The vehicle shuts off while driving, this has happened twice, but when it starts it continues until it has stopped running for a while. *yd

Vehicle experiencing a problem with complete lost of power intermittently on three occasion, this problem can lead into a vehicle crash. Delaer notified and unable to duplicate the problem. Please provide any further details:

When stopped, in gear, with a/c running, there is a very pronouced vibration-shudder in the vehicle. When you turn off a/c and put in neutral, it disapates.dealers people have ridden in and agree there is a problem. Yet when they hook up to their computer, everything is 'normal'.thus there is no fixing it.service manager is condensending and says he can not fix it.have driven other like vehicles there and no such problem. Have waited now 14 weeks for the zone mgr to come in.no one will provide a division office phone number. Help

Day time running light would turn off every time the turn signal is used. Been to dlr and was unformed it was designed like that.

The daytime running lights (drl) goes out whenever turn signal is turned on creating unsafe driving. Yh

While driving oldsmobile bravada and signaling for lane change the daytime running lights will turn off. When lane change is complete and turn signal is back to neutral position running lights turn back on.i have asked the car dealership to check this out and they seemed baffled by it, and have told me this is a normal function of the bravada.i have tried to call oldsmobile but no one seems to want tohelp.i feel this is a safety problem and would like an answer as to why the lights turn off while driving and signaling.the daytime running lights should remain on despite signaling while changing lanes. Please help me solve this problem. Thank you.

Whenever the signal light is in use, daytime running light would turn off. Been to dealer & informed by the mechanic it was designed that way.

While driving outiside of garage throttle was stuck and vehicle ran into the wall.dealership was aware of problem.dealer found carbon buildup.

Door locks freezing/sticking due to inadequate lubrication. Mjs

When snow and ice builds up on the emergency brake cables, it makes them activate the brakes. Dealer has not seen.

I am writing this complaint because i have come across some issues with my transmission and cruise control. I got to looking into it and seen where there were some recalls for the same problems on the same year model of my vehicle. I have called around and they are telling me because of my vin number they cant do anything, but it is the same year model and i am having the same issues. The service engine light wont go off, it wont shift into overdrive, it doesn't shift right, it feels like it shifts into neutral on its on. Sometimes it feels like it doesn't register it being in drive when i go to take off, seems like it has a rough idle, and the cruise control does not work anymore. I would like something to be done about this because i need my vehicle fixed.

Paint is progressively peeling off the luggage rack.bodyshop commented "it doesn't look like it was coated/sealed properly, this shouldn't be happening."transmission:driving on hwy car started smoking out exhaust, exited hwy and car shifted "hard" from stop thru acceleration.got to aamco shop, they scanned and got an "1870 code".upon inspection discovered the pump assy was "chewed up and burnt steel."fluid was being forced out the filler tube and the fluid was black.i was told there was a high danger that the fluid could have ignited.i had absolutely no warning signs that something was wrong with the transmission until the car started smoking.i am a street driver, never have towed or gone off roading in this vehicle so no undue stress or wear has been put on the trans.the response i get from the finance company and the dealer is "it's bad luck, a fluke, etc. And the car isn't under warranty."i am going to perservere in my efforts to get gm involved and hopefully they will do the right thing.

Transmission shutter, failure of dash controls, replaced ignition switch 46800 miles brakes out twice in 4 months paint on luggage rack chipping 54562 at 70 mph on cruise shifted by self tolow gear back to high gear then back to low replaced tranny

Transmission failed.transmission shop has seen numerous problems with 1999 gmc transmissions.they said that gmc knows that the 1999 transmission is weak.problem started out with the car not wanting to shift into second.the car eventually lost 4th and reverse.

When taking off from a stop at 60 mph, transmission slips and chatters . Also, when in reverse after applying the gas pedal, vehicle continues to accelerate two to three seconds, even withfoot on the brakes.consumer has contacted dealer.

The transmission failed....

Automatic transmission failed.it cost $1,400 to rebuild.

Transmission reaction sun shell failure occurred when entering highway at legal speed. Avoided accident, but condition is extremely dangerous and somewhat common to all gm 4l60e transmissions. Dealer diagnosed failure and stated that this was a common failure in this transmission due to a defective design of the reaction sun shell. Part is improperly welded/heat-treated. Gm has redesigned the part and offers goodwill repairs at their discretion. Gm decided that my dealer-maintained vehicle was not worthy of a goodwill repair?, although the service manager recommended transmission replacement due to the pristine condition of my vehicle. Cost $2152 to repair, but how many accidents or deaths has this event caused over the last ten years? i would believe at least one and gm has escaped the recall this part failure deserves. Car has been maintained by dealer in accordance with required intervals. Transmission flush is not recommended until 100,000 miles, but this vehicle has had fluid flushes; by the dealer, @ 35k and 78k. Failure occurred 4months after service @ 82k.

I have a 1999 oldsmobile bravada of which i have just found out there is a tsb on its transmission stuck in 3rd gear/reverse reaction shell brakage.i have inquired with gmc and a local dealership and neither told me of this.my vehicle only has 40,000 miles on it and according to the tsb, oldsmobile service personnel is required to repair it free of charge but they have offered me a 50/50 split.i feel this is unacceptable.my car is still considered brand new even though my 36,000/3yr warranty is up and with the amount of miles it has on it, it should not be having a transmission problem. I did not read about a warranty clause related to the tsb and feel oldsmoble is not honoring the tsb as it is stated.i have been told by both oldsmobile and the dealership repair to my vehicle is imperative.

Truck has a severe "shudder" especially noticeable on slow speed turns. According to dealer gm has recommended replacement of transfer case fluid with a "not yet manufactured" product. Problem is more noticeable as mileage increases.

Severe vibration in vehicle at speeds of 60 mph and up. Dealerthinks it may be in the drive axle or cluth assembly, but oldsmobile will not let him do anything to the vehicle because they don't think it will help.oldsmobile knows about the problem, but was not open about the problem when discussed at the time the car was new. Just now finding out it is not the tires as i was lead to believe.dealer has replaced all four tires.

1. The oil cooling lines were leaking.i feel that they should not fail at only 76,000 miles.2. The pinion seal has failed twice.this appears to be a manufacturer's defect.

The vehicle vibrates while driving at highway speeds, dealer has changed and balanced tires (5 times), changed transfer case oil, problem still exists due to possible tranfer case or suspension failure.*et

Consumer state while hand was on the seat release, the rear set flipped rearward causing injures to consumer hand. Dealer has been contacted. Consumer stated when placing rear seat in the flded position, the rear seat head rest flipped backward striking consumer's top hand.

On or about april 17th, as i was turning of the main road onto my cul-de-sac, i tapped the brakes to slow and the pedal went to the floor.i immediately pulled the shifter into low to slow down and then to neutral as i came to my driveway.turned into the driveway and applied the emergency brake to come to a stop.upon examining the vehicle, i determined that the brake line for the drivers side rear caliper had rusted out and was leaking profusely.the timing was very fortunate as i was on a main road before the brakes went out and if i had the need to come to a rapid stop a few moments earlier, i would have more than likely been involved in a serious accident.i know this is an older vehicle, but i saw a notice that this same issue is occurring with other gm vehicles of this age and wanted to let you know that i experienced this as well. The car has been very well maintained and is a very low mileage car which should not be suffering from brake lines which rust through from the inside out.if you do require a recall of the vehicles for this purpose, please don't leave oldsmobiles out just because the brand has been discontinued.thank you

The contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile bravada. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The contact shifted the gear selector into neutral and then into the park position to completely stop the vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and brake fluid was dispensed into the reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they detected a fractured brake line. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

Abs light remains on while driving. Dealer andmanufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

This model has an overhead console with a readout that purports to tell the outside air temperature. The temperature readout is consistently 5-15 degrees warmer than the actual outside temperature.based on the readout, the console shows an "ice" warning when temperatures are right for the formation of ice.my concern is that this readout might suggest that temperatures are 10 or 15 degrees above freezing, when in fact ice may be present on the road.oldsmobile has acknowledged to me that this is a design defect, and they do not know how to fix it.in talking with owners of "twin vehicles"(chevy blazer and gmc jimmy) of various model years, they report the same problem.this problem has apparently been present on these models for at least a couple of model years.

My 8 year old daughter was retrieving something from the back of the vehicle. She opened the rear hatch glass door as usual. When she was done, she grasped the handle on the rear glass and started to pull down to close it. It immediately shattered all over her. She received two small cuts to her hands and one small cut on her chin from flying glass.at this time, there appears to be no glass in her eyes. Upon my looking into why this happened, i found that the passenger side rear hatch hinge pin was lying in a recessed channel on the top of the car. The "e" clip retainer was missing and the pin had fallen out. This obviously allowed the glass to twist and shatter. We have an appointment atthe dealer in the morning and will explain this same story. To say i'm furious is an understatement. In my opinion, the hinge pin retention system is not positive enough. The "e" clip retainer can easily pop off of the pin. I'm a maintenance technician and i have already though of 3 better ways to retain the pin. Your prompt investigation of this matter is much appreciated.

The contact owns a 1999 oldsmobile bravada.the contact stated that the frame caused the front driver side tire to fail. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised that the cross member that was connected to the frame, below the catalytic converter, had rusted and fractured in half.the manufacturer requested that the contact take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 145,000.

Automobileshakes periodically. Has been taken to the dealership on numerous occasions, but the problem is still presistent. Dealership has not yet been able to find the exact cause of the problem.

The veichle wants to flip over by itself when driving down the road the seat belts are twisted the radiator leaks here and there along with the transmission fluid and sometimes the oil leaks

No summary listed for above vehicle.

The vehicle vibrates while driving at highway speeds, dealer has changed and balanced tires (5 times), changed transfer case oil, problem still exists due to possible tranfer case or suspension failure.*et

The front left control arm broke, which caused the front suspension to collapse.

1999 oldsmobile bravada - front left control arm ball joint broke.result in front suspension collapsing.top of tire went inward.my vehicle was built in may 1999 at general motors plant in moriane, ohio. Research on the internet show this problem has existed on this and similar gm vehicles since 1996.a recall was done on them. (gm recall bulletin ? subject 01048a ? upper ball joint separation issued october, 2001) (also reference odi action number rq02-012) however i called oldsmobile (1-800-222-1020) and they said no recall on my car was issued. I was told recalls are done on individual cars, not lots of cars, as i would have expected. Further research show cars in this part of the county where salt is used on roads in the winter have a high probability of this problem developing.since this problem has existed for 8 year i feel this should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to engineer a solution, especially since this is a known problem. Nhtsa needs to do a complete investigation for the publics safety.had i been traveling on a highway when this broke this could have been another ford explorer rollover fiasco.when i called oldsmobile and asked if i could talk to the regional manager for this area the person i talked to said the regional managers do not talk to the general public.what kind of public relations is that? *nlm

When applying pressure to the accelerator engine took off and speeded up after foot was released from the gas pedal. Driver had to turn vehicle off while in drive. Dealer has not seen vehicle.*ml

While driving outiside of garage throttle was stuck and vehicle ran into the wall.dealership was aware of problem.dealer found carbon buildup.

When taking off from a stop at 60 mph, transmission slips and chatters . Also, when in reverse after applying the gas pedal, vehicle continues to accelerate two to three seconds, even withfoot on the brakes.consumer has contacted dealer.

Accelerator pedal sticks while driving.problem is intermittent.dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

While driving t at 25 mph and with no warning accelerator pedal got stuck to the floorboard, causing the consumer to press on the brake pedal.consumer turned the vehicle off, and had the vehicle towed to the dealer.

Defogger does not work onpassenger's side. It only works half way up the window. Dealer has been contacted.

Heater core malfunctioned. As a result, cold air blew through the ventilation system, and the engine overheated.

The veichle wants to flip over by itself when driving down the road the seat belts are twisted the radiator leaks here and there along with the transmission fluid and sometimes the oil leaks

When turning the steering wheel full over in either direction, consumer states he can feel and hear a shuddering type vibration, the dealer has looked at the vehicle and informed consumer that there is a small metal protrusion on the inside of the front wheels which rubs against what my be thought of as a frame when the wheels are in the hard over position, and the only remedy is togrease the protrusion, consumer is concerned that this could develop into a hazard.
