While in stop position vehicle suddenly accelerated, hitting a building inwhich the driver's and passenger's air bags did not deploy.

The vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 50mph. Upon impact the air bags did not deploy. Please provide further information.

I have had numerous problems with my 1998 olds bravada. First the blinker sound won't shut off. When the ac is on for more than 25 minutes the motor gets really loud and the speedometer needle starts jumping. Finally my brakes get sticky when it's hot outside then the abs light comes on and it feels as if the brakes aren't going to engage and the speedometer needle starts going crazy again. This is something that shuts off and starts all over again every time i start the vehicle.

Vehicle has a complete loss of power while driving. It happens numerous times without warning while driving to work 3rd shift 55-60 mph on a country road... Vehicle would suddenly shut down. With no lights, power steering, ect... I would have to try and pull over in the pitch black of night. After about 20 minutes it would start back up and on i would go, praying it wouldn't happen at the curves. After a couple of years of this and nobody having any answers, my husband discovered it is a connector in the steering column that gets corroded and he has to clean it. As long as we clean the corrosion off of the connector about twice a year, the vehicle does fine.

Alco batteries have failed three times.nlm

Called dealership referred to customer service in fla., on problem with steering column talked to central fla. Customerservice. They were going to check and call me back.claimed leather wearing off the steering column was normal wear and tear, but would look into it.never heard from them again. Problem with ac delco battery occurred while i was on vacation.battery was suppose to have a 7 year lifespan.while at shopping center, battery died and had to contact triple aaa to have car towed to garage.evidence of corrosion was on the battery cables and battery was dead.had to put in new battery and have cables cleaned.this was an emergency situation.when i contacted dealer, i was advised to call customer service of olds.they investigated the case #0co2791144 and advised they would not refund for repair because they didn't physically see the battery.as stated, this happened on the road while on vacation. I have witness to tried to help and observed condition of the cables and saw that battery was dead. I intend to file a complaint with gm, oldsmobile; however, based on conversation after i went through this problem, it appears that manyac delco batteries have had same problem, believe the ac delco battery installed in 1998 cars to be defective.request yourhelp in investigating and helping consumers.thank you.

Battery positive post fell completely out of battery

Due todefective electrical problemswindows went up and down/ headlights malfunctioned, and braking system malfunctioned, causing a crash.also, while driving battery cable fell apart which caused the vehicle to stall unexpectedly which may have caused a crash.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile bravada. The contact stated that while driving at 45-55 mph, the vehicle stalled numerous times without warning. The vehicle was taken toa dealer, who replaced the alternator. The repair failed to remedy the failure.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage 42,000.

Total electrical loss causing engine shutdown.while driving with the ac on andthe radio on during the day, within a 3 mile trip we experianced total electrical failure 2 times.the idiot lights will flash, the dash board needles will bounce and jump, and then everything shutsdown.engine, brakes, power stearing, lights everything.we were able to drift to the side of the road, shift into park and restart the engine without any problem.if this had happend when we made the last left turn, we probably would have been nailed by a semi.the dealer has had the bravada from 2 days without finding anything.they can not reproduce the problem.the battery is fine, the terminals are fine, they tested the computer and that is fine.i refuse to let anyone drive this until something is found and fixed.

Engine stalling / shutting down intermittently.vehicle been in dealer's shop on four occasions, and problemcould not be duplicated. Please feel free to any further details on this matter.

Car would not start at times.when car would start it would not go out of first gear.all dash lights would light up.took truck in 3 times before problem was found.truck left me stranded on the side of the road.oldmobile did not reimburse me for rental car while truck was being looked at 3 times.

While driving at 25 mph the engine stopped, power steering and power brakes failed. The truck would not restart. It was towed to the dealer.the dealer said a chaffed wire caused the computer fuse to blow.this was the second occurance in 6 weeks.

Consumer tried to turn key to start vehicle, and was then unable to turn key or take it back out of ignition. Vehicle was towed to dealer and the ignition switch was replaced.

The dash guages and the lights flashed on/off then went out completely.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the ignition switch was bad.at 33000k miles the consumer went to have the vehicle checked due to the transmission shifting rough and starting in second gear, and was told that the ignition had gone bad again.*scc*jg

Ignition switch caused key to get stuck in ignition, also caussed gauge cluster to shut off.vehicle is drivable but without speedometer.

The service engine light comes on and 6 different transmissions trouble codes are set in the computer causing the transmission to go into a default mode that causes it not to have a first gear or high gear. The electrical dash gauges moy or may not work at times and the key may or may not come out of the switch when you try and shut the car off. I checked with a gm dealer and talked to the mechanic and as soon as i showed him the trouble codes and the number of times they had came up he told me what the problem was as he had seen it on many other gm cars before.

While driving from the gas station driver noticeddashboard lights were not on. About 15 minutes after that, key was stuck in the ignition.

Ignition switch caused key to get stuck in ignition, also caussed gauge cluster to shut off.vehicle is drivable but without speedometer.

Lost all guages after all dashboard lights came on then went out; also lost power, engine rpm's shot up to 3000 from normal 2000

Transmission problems, windshield wipers not working, headlights not working, awd problems, cooling system problems, fuel pump, control arm & ball joint problems are just some of the major safety issues on 96-99 gm blazers, bravada's, & jimmys. These problems should really be looked into and recalled. Most problems starting right after warranty expired. Can't believe gm is getting away with this. Transmission went bad at 71000 miles and dealer says that they know there was a defect with the transmissions also problem (code 1870) but they will not cover the repair.

The engine overheats, the heater will become inoperative and blow cold air and it gets rust in the cooling systems requring constant flushing.

Dear sir or madam,i am the owner of a 1998 oldsmobile bravada with a 4.3l vortec engine.upon having my vehicle inspected, the mechanic at the dealership told me that my oil cooler lines were leaking, and that i needed to have them fixed ($433).i asked him about this problem, and was told that it was an inherent problem with gm's -- the lines may eventually fail and cause engine seizure.i wanted to do some price checking and find out just how widespread this problem was.needless to say, i was shocked at the sheer number ofowners who have had to replace these lines -- regardless of mileage.gm pretends as though they're not aware of the problem, and they are not offering any help with these faulty parts.the costly replacements are just as bad -- some people have experienced failures two or three times.i was told that they were not covered, even under the extended warranty i had purchased.if it is as bad as they say, and it seems to be, the vehicle shouldn't even have been sold to me without being fixed first.i have a major issue with gm when they deny that there is a problem; for the oil cooler lines to fail in such widespread numbers indicates that there is a potential hazard on the roadways.the threat of engine seizure, combined with oil spillage on the highways is a dangerous recipe, indeed.i urge you to please investigate the oil cooler lines issue on the 1998 oldsmobile bravada/chevy blazer/gmc jimmy -- the results of such an investigation will turn up much evidence and make our roads safer.thank you in advance for reading this submission.sincerely, scott luhrs

Advertised safety feature "daytime running lights" were not installed on bravadas, with a vin number of "[xxx]," and later, during the 1998 manufacturing season. I was informed by oldsmobile on 10/16/1998 that they were working on correcting this serious safety defect. To date, 01/10/2000, nothing has been done to correct this situation.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The lower intake was leaking coolant and was replaced.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 45 mph, the vehicle overheated and stalled.the consumer pulled over and after letting the vehicle cool off, he restarted it. The vehicle was driven to an independent repair shop, where it was determined the fuel injector was leaking. Fuel was leaking onto the wires for the main computer system.the repair shop suggested the fuel injector and all the wires be replaced.updated 05/23/06.

The gas gauge does not register the correct amount of fuel when lower amounts of fuel is in the tank.dealer could not find a problem with vehicle.

Check engine light comes on and there is a hard shift from 1st to 2nd and sometimes a somewhat hard one from 2nd to 3rd.this only happens after vehicle has been running for about an hour and will continue to happen until you let it cool down.many bravada owners reporting same occurrences.

Transmission started slipping also no reverse.

Consumer stated that he was hearing a grinding noisefor about a week, and it got progressively louder.he finely took vehicle to the mechanic, and was told by the mechanic thataxle bearing was broken.also, transmission support bracket was found to be rusted , and had to replacetransmission.

Automatic transmission skips in lower gears, causing vehicle to lurch forward."service needed" light is illuminated.dealer indicates that due to a milling error in the transmission, casing, transmission will need to be replaced soon at a minimum cost of $2500.current odometer reading is 120,000.i feel the subcontractor for the milled casing should be required to replace the transmission at their cost.

Transmission fluid leaks from compression fitting onto an exhaust pipe sitauted immeidately below fitting.the leaking of the fluid onto the very hot pipe becomes more intense when the auto is stopped.contacted olds hot-line and they confirmed that they have a serious program with this part; however, they declined to recall auto and they declined to pay for repair.furtger, their own dealer refused to accept the suv for safety inspection.a local mechanic repaired part for us$127.50 in parts incidentally purchased from the parts department of the olds dealer that refuased to look at the vehicle.dealer also refused to contact olds safety personnel saying that their dealer contract with gm makes it illegal for the dealer to inquire about safety defects on behalf of a consumer.

This vehicle shudders on dry pavement. There is a problem with the all wheel drive system. Please see bulletin #99-04-21-005 (this is on your website) we have had the vehicle in for service 4 times for this problem. They changed the fluid in the transfer case 3 different times, but the problem still persists. We have contacted oldsmobile, with no results. Can you please help us, we don't know what to do next. The vehicle is still under factory warranty. Gm/ oldsmobile refuses to replace the transfer case and the mechanic at pence oldsmobile suggested this is what should be done to correct the problem.

The transmission seal was leaking.

Seat belt latch assembly right rear fell apart, requires entire new assembly

Heating element located in seat back shorted out or overheated causing right front seat cover to melt.the passenger sitting in the right front seat received very light superficial burns on herback.this could have been more serious if the car had been running for a period of time when the passenger sat down in the seat. It happened on a warm day,and the heating unit was not purposely switched on.the switch to the heating unit is located on the bottom side of theseat.often it is accidentally kicked on when entering or leaving the vehicle.

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile bravada. The contact stated that while reversing at unknown speeds, the driver's side front seat caught on fire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Seat backs collapsed when rear ended by another vehicle.

My vehicle had a complete loss of power while driving. It happened more than once prior to taking it in to the dealership. No dash board lighting, no power steering, no acceleration and braking was very difficult. If i tapped on the steering column the power would sometimes come back on. I do have the paperwork from 2001 when the ignition switch was replaced at the dealership. I believe the ignition problem goes back further that gm knows.

Approximately 10 times in the past 2 years the brakes have not operated or operated at a very minimal amount.it appears to be at low speed when first starting car out.i usually back out of the driveway.i stop with no problem.then drive less than one block on a side street at approximately 25 mph.i put on the brakes and they barely engage.i push the pedal to the floor but it does nothing.i try to give myself as much assured distance as possible and have been very lucky i have not hit anyone yet.i have come "real " close and have had to swerve to miss cars..no warning lights go off on the dashboard.i have taken my car into reliable in january 1999, october 20, 2000.olds hot line requested that i take it to another dealer and i took it to earl oldsmobile in brookpark, ohio.neither could dupicate the problem and refused to fix.when i called the oldsmobile help line(1-800-442-6537 tracking # c02031344) they repeated the same statement and refused to give me anyone elses phone# at oldsmobile or general motors.everyone seems to have absolutely no regard for safety or human life.when i asked jim ober of reliable oldsmobile" what if i kill a small child who steps in front of me and i can not stop."his response was a flippant" people die in automobile accidents all the time."i am not that concerned for the safety of myself, my car , or someone elses car.this problem currently happens at very low speeds and i probably would not have a serious accident with 2 cars hitting each other..my #1 fear is if a pedestrian steps in front of me.please help i have tried everything i can think of.it does not appear like anyone at oldsbmobile cares.

Brakes failed. Caliper had internal seal failure. Managed to stop without hitting anyone/anything. Towed to dealership. Replaced faulty caliper.

My leased 1998 bravada which i acquired in 10/00, used, began indicating brake pad wear and need for replacement in late april 2001.mueller tire in strongsville, ohio had to replace all 4 rotors due to unbelievable amounts of rust and pitting in the rotors.in all vehicles i have ever had, i have never seen rotors in such a deteriorated condition at such low mileage.i have saved the rotors and seriously wonder if there have been a recall or defect bulletin on these incredibly dilapidated (and dangerous) type of rotors!

1998 oldsmobile bravadapower steering vibrates and shakes when making turns with the vehicle and the outside temperature is above 60 degrees. (i.e. This defect occurs in the spring, summer and fall but not in winter.)

Purchased vehicle 2 week ago, suposed to be gmc certified. Please contact for further information!. No safety defect listed.

While driving into the setting sun in a parking lot i struck a3 inch curbing at approximately 10 mph. A large flag pole was slightly scraped with the left fender causing some minor damage.the left front ball joint separated from the lower control arm causing the tie rod end to snap and left front wheel to collapse.the car traveled approximately 1 1/2 car lengths before stopping without use of the brakes.the only skid marks were from the now sideways tire and from the dragging undercarrige bolts.there is no reason that this minor impact should have cuased this type of damage. The rivets connecting the ball joints had sheared off.this car has never been driven off road or abused in any way.if this had occured at highway speed after hitting a pot hole i would likely have lost complete control of the car.our olds dealer told me that it was "not their problem".

The upper and lower ball joints on my 1998 oldsmobile bravada with awd smartrack wear at a very accelerated rate. They, along with the tie rods were replaced soon after i purchased the vehicle at approx 86000 miles with all gm parts, and now at 93000 miles need replacing again. They have been properly lubricated, and the front end has been aligned several times, all by a gm dealer. The vehicle is not used off road or for plowing. Having spoke to several other bravada owners, i am finding this to be a rather common problem. These components are critical, and should last much longer than they have, especially on an all wheel drive vehicle that never goes off road. No recall is noted, however front suspension components directly related to these have been investigated by the nhtsa. The vehicle is fitted with quality name brand standard size tires in good condition. *nlm

The contact owns a 1998 oldsmobile bravada. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the passengers side rear axle broke and the rear passenger wheel fell off. The contact stated that the vehicle flipped, causing the air bags to deploy. The contact sustained major injuries that required medical condition. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same failures as listed in recall nhtsa campaign number: 98v053000 (suspension). However, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.

The left and right front wheel bearing assemblies were making noise and were replaced by the dealer. Also, the idler arm was worn out and the front lower ball joints failed causing the front end to become loose. The vehicle had four new tires.

I was hit in the rear quarter panel by a vw.the bravada rolled twice.the vw was hardly damaged.i was accused of speeding while in fact i was not.the vehicle just rolled so easily.is there a problem with these sports utility vehicles rolling?

The vehicle described pulls to the left or right depending on the lay of the road.it will not go straight at any time without applying correction with the steering wheel.i researched the "customer complaints" for the 1998 gm series (olds bravada, gmc jimmy, chev blazer).the customer complaints are staggering.the trend on this safety issue is profound.gm has a problem and so do the consumers.have you picked up on this trend?are there studies?gm had a recall to re-torgue a steering linkage bolt.that's not the problem overall.it extends into newer models too.i think we need help before we have another firestone/ford explorer like problem.please investigate.please advise on results.thanks for helping because it is evident that gm is aware of the problem and has not fixed it.there are lots of failures, lots of crashes, lots of injuries, and i'm sure some loss of life.and i'm only seeing what has been reported to you.i would bet it is a very big problem.thanks again.don sellars.

I purchased my 1998 bravada 4/02 and since then have had nothing but problems. The upper and lower ball joints have been replaced twice (they were replaced and approx 2 weeks later i was having the same problems again and i was told the parts were "faulty"). I had the same problems with the brakes--had them fixed , then had problems again, took it back and again it was blamed on "faulty" parts. Thebrakes still squeak badly, so i'm sure i will hear again that i had "faulty" parts. The tread on the front tires wore unevenly (they were pro-rated 80,000 mile tires and after less than 3,000 miles the inner edges were completly bald). So of course, the tires were supposedly "faulty". The ignition module goes out every 6 months with out fail. The ignition will stick in the lock position and the key cannot be removed unless you force it which results in the bravada being able to be started without the key. I was told there was a memo put outon this part, but no recall. These are only the repairs that have had to be repeatedly done. I am really begining to wonder if maybe the truck is "faulty" and not the parts.also, i refuse to take the truck to the olds dealership. I think there moto is "it isn't our problem", and if it isn't, maybe it should be becausethey say it enough. And lets be honest--yes oldsmobile, it is your problem. You maufactured these vehicles and now many, many people are paying for them. Maybe they should stand up and actaully start taking responsibility for it. Anyone else agree?

Consumer had front steering components on oldsmobile bravada replaced. *mr three ball joints, idler arm, and pitman arm were all replaced.the tires had to be replaced.the consumer requested reimbursement. *sc

Owner complains that the location of the spare tire, without a locking device or warning system, results in easy thefts.

Pe00 020; consumer was traveling about 70mph onhighway andheard a popping noise. Left rear tire had exploded, and tread separated. Tire is amichelin, p23570 r1. #xw4.

Vehicle was stopped in front of curbing, for service. Before engaging "park"engine roared and lunged vehicle thru dealership brickwork.

Lost all guages after all dashboard lights came on then went out; also lost power, engine rpm's shot up to 3000 from normal 2000

Internal piece (part number?) of the throttle body (21247) attached to the throttle plate (21465) that is held in by (2) rivets. The 2 rivets failed causing whatever was there to get sucked into the intake manifold. I have the old part with the broken rivets. This was not caused by any foreign object. The total for the repair = $1360.00.*nlm

While in stop position vehicle suddenly accelerated, hitting a building inwhich the driver's and passenger's air bags did not deploy.

Wiper motor failure during inclement weather. Also, windshield defroster/defogger not working due to rust clogging the heater core also causing motor to overheat and stall in the summer.*nlm

There is currently a recall of 600,000 suvs by gmc due to faulty windshield wipers. Oldsmobile bravadas are incuded, but gmc says my 1998 oldsmobile bravada is not included in the recall. I had the same problem with my windshield wipers in the spring, and had them repaired. This was a costly repair, and i think it is a design defect. This problem should be investigated and resolved in all bravadas. On the interner, it seems this is a common problem with oldsmobile bravadas, and they should be made to pay for the repairs. Also there is a problem with the driver electronic window- works sometimes and sometimes does not. My friend has an olds alero with the same problem. Needs to be researched. This is inconvenient and dangerous

Rear hatch glass flies up whena truck passed by coming toward us.about a week later the same ongmc jimmy.

Due todefective electrical problemswindows went up and down/ headlights malfunctioned, and braking system malfunctioned, causing a crash.also, while driving battery cable fell apart which caused the vehicle to stall unexpectedly which may have caused a crash.

The wipers failed intermittently while in operation.as a result the driver was forced to pull over during a rain storm. Recall 98v150001 was issued on similar make/model vehicles, however this vehicle was not included due to the vin#. *nlm

Windshield wipers work intermittently, sometimes cutting off while engaged.

The pulse windshield did not work properly. It had been recalled by gm. Ph

Consumer stated that without any indication, the windshield wipers stopped working, which resulted inpoor visibility. Dealer had been contacted.in heavy rain , the wipers had been on for about 10 minutes and had suddenly gone off.when the vehicle was started again about 15 minutes later thee wipers worked again. *scc

Experiencing intermittent windshield wiper operation.same symptoms experienced with a 1995 gmc jimmy which was covered by a recall.gm should expand the recall as this seems to be a common issue and a major safety issue.

I bought my vehicle used (about 30,000 miles on it). Roughly 4 months after i bought it the windshield wipers were not working correctly. I would turn them off and they would continue to go, sometimes i would use my sprayers to clean the windshield and the wipes would wipe 14 times (i counted). Sometimes i would turn them on and they wouldn't come on and other times i would turn them off and they would stop right in my viewing area of the windshield. Happened quite frequently.

Windshield wipers experienced the same defect as stated in recall03v159000.this vehicle was not included in therecall due to the vehicle identification number the windshield wipers were inoperable, they never worked on fast or high.there was an intermittent failure above 75 percent or three out of four tries.gm refused repair. *scc

Windshield wipers failed intermittently. People having this problem need to contact general motors (oldsmobile), i spoke with a woman there, she said they weren't even aware of the problem. Everybody experiencing this problem should contact them because this is a severe hazard and the vehicle needs to be recalled.i had the wiper module replaced (my expense) and the same thing was wrong with it that was wrong with the blazers they had recalled for defective wipers. You can contact them by the following: email: [email protected] or call customerservice (ask for the manager)@ 1-800-442-6537 monday through friday 8:00 to 11:00 eastern time. Please call and let the manufacturer now about this, they said if more people call then maybe it will be recalled!!!! thanks gw

Windshield wipers will intermittently work. In conversing with another owner of the same type vehicle, the problem was traced to a poor solder point.there was a small crack in the solder located on the circuit board.*jg

While driving, the windshield wipers failed intermittently.on several occasions, the consumer had to pull off of the highway due to the rain and not being able to see through the windshield. *sc

Sometimes the windshield wipers work and sometimes they don't. When they do work they usually stop working in the middle of raining. I think this is very dangerous. I know another person that owns a bravada that has the same problem. The windshield wipers has stopped working while i was riding on the freeway before in the middle of a storm, i could have gotten into a serious accident. I am almost scared to drive when the forecast says rain because you never know when the windshield wipers are going to work.

While traveling on the highway in inclement weather and without prior warning windshield wipers will come on and off.

Dt: 1998 oldsmobile bravado, while driving in the rain windshieldwipers stopped. Took tvehicle to the dealer ,where consumerbought the car,and they didn'tknow what caused this, but it could be the module and they could replace the module at the cost, of$200.00. Did not have the work done because they could not duplicate the problem.this has not happened in the last 13 months and now it is starting up again.talked to the manufacturer, and they could not help consumer. They checked to see if there was any recalls, and there were none.

Windshield wipers stopped working causing a major safety issue.

Windshield wipers suddenly stop without warning, causing you to not be able to see during rain.i am lucky i have not had an accident already.i contacted oldsmobile because they issued a recall for other years of bravadas having the same problem, but they refuse to issue a recall for this year model.

Windshield wipers work intermittently occasionally causing the driver to pull off the road during storms, there have been times when i am able to turn them on but not off!*la

Dt:the contact states the windshield wipers will not work properly. This happens intermittently.this started last winter. Oldsmobile toldthe contactthat warranty expired.he cited a recall.

Windshield wipers will turn on & off at will even in heavy rain.very dangerous to drive.

Windshield wipers come on and off intermittently in inclement weather.the check engine light illuminates and when it does the transmission doesn't shift. The front of the vehicle bounces and pulls to one side. Wipers would fail while driving, but by the time the consumer got home and tried them again, they worked.*ph

While driving at any speed, the windshield wipersstopped working during a rainstorm.

The windshield wipers failed to operate, while driving in the rain.wiper motor failed due to a cracked weld on the motor.*tc

While driving in inclement weatherwindshield wipers came on and went off on their own. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined thatmotor needed to be replaced.

Windshield wipers fail to operate. Has happened multiple times in the past. Sometimes have to turn car off and back on to get them to work. Extreme hazard when driving in rain. Don't ever know when it will happen. Same problem on gm s-10 (1989) where there are too many devices on the wiper stem.

Intermittent wiper circuit board faulty, wipers failed in rain causing me to drive off road onto muddy shoulder. No accident, damage or injury. Local olds dealer offered no remedy. Had new board installed by independant service tech. At personal expense. This failure is not uncommon, and poses horrific threat. Should be investigated with determination. I expect to be reimbursed. Thank you. A.o. Mccrohan.

Windshield wipers stopped working during rainstorm.had to pull off road due to lack of visibility.wipers worked again after weather cleared and vehicle sat for an hour.conversations with other bravada owners indicate this is a prevalent problem.are there any recalls for this problem?is the accessory connection box problem related to this too?
