2003 oldsmobile alero. Consumer stated the vehicle need to have the ignition and keys repaired. *ssthe consumer received a recall notice, regarding the ignition switch and keys. However, on september 9, 2014, she was involved in an accident.the consumer stated the air bad did not deploy.the vehicle was totaled.

Today i started my car with my automatic starter then 7 minutes later i hear a horn non stop beeping i lookout my door and my car is smoking and in flames from hood. Investigator tells me it totaled. After they put the fire out i look in car and only one air bag came out.

Approximately 2 plus years ago my horn stopped working.i returned to the dealer from whom i bought the car. Car was purchased used, however i did purchase extended warranty. I was informed by dealer that the horn was connected to airbag module and that the contacts were shot.to get my horn back i would have to replace a perfectly good, i hope, airbag module at a cost of approximately $1100.00. This a b.s. I cannot afford to pay for a new airbag module. I am still without a horn.there are times when having a horn is important.in my mind this is serious design flaw.how many people can afford to resolve this problem?to me this is a 'blatant' safety hazard. Will my airbag work properly if i ever need it????

2003 alero ignition shorted causing consumer not be able to start vehicle, also found a leak in intake manifold gasket.the passlock sensor in the ignition cylinder shorted and as a result the vehicle would not start.the intake gaskets and oil drive o-ring leaked.the dealer replaced the lower intake manifold gasket, rocker cover gaskets and oil pump driveshaft cover seal.the air bag cover warped.the top of the dash was wrinkled and the instrument panel pan was peeling from it's backing.the dealer replaced the instrument panel assembly and transferred all components.

I believe my car should be in the gm recall. When staring the car at times there is a delay with dash board lights coming on. Also windows not working ,radio, and sensor lights.i was told by tech it may be an ignition problem but when it was on the computersaid something different. My airbag light keep coming on then he said it was an electrical problem in which he would need to break my steering column that i would have to pay for.the car only has 152000 miles.

Parts for repair to the key are not available as of oct 1, 2014. Parts are on back order. No date of parts availability could be provided by gm.

My problem is with the horn/airbag assembly for this vehicle.it started about 3 years ago.the horn, in cold weather, honks.it would go off and continue in a constant honk (not a pulsing honk) and will not stop until the relay under the hood is pulled.if the relay is replaced and the weather is still cold it would go off/honk while riding down the road.the whole horn/airbag assembly has to be replace.i replaced the assembly 2 years ago.now the new horn assembly goes off even in warm weather.sitting in the driveway, going down the road, whenever, causing un-needed attention and distracting other drivers.the only solution has been to totally disable the horn/airbag by removing the relay under the hood leaving me with no horn at all.the cost for replacement is over $900.money i can't afford to spend with no guarantee that the third unit won't do the same thing as the other two.when i enter a search on-line there are numerous complaints from other alero owners reporting the same problem.

First problem: my horn decided to go off intermittently starting at 3am, finally had to pull the fuse to stop the noise. I keep the fuse with me, but now i have no horn and it is not safe, have had a few close calls.second problem: turn signals fail to work at inconvenient times. Finally figured out that if i turn on my hazards for about 30 seconds then turn them off, the turn signals will work again properly. Third problem: security light comes on, vehicle will not start. Been to the dealer numerous times for this, they finally told me to just put the key in the "on" position for about 10 minutes, and once the security light goes off the car will start. These are all safety issues that need to be addressed by gm.

Upon purchasing this vehicle in march of 2014 i have had numerous issues with it. One issue being it would not start. I let the dealer i bought it from look at it and he took it to a garage that he usually deals with and they told me they replaced the starter. However, i'm almost positive it had something to do with the ignition switch recall. Another issue is the horn randomly started going off in the driveway one day and now the horn does not work at all. The most concerning issue is that of the electrical problems i've been having with the car. The parking lights stay on, forcing me to have to disconnect the battery every time i leave the car for extended periods of time. The turning signals work intermittently, sometimes only after 7pm through 8am i won't even be able to get the signals to turn on. Other times they won't work if the windshield wipers are on.

I am the owner of a 2003 oldsmobile alero, for the past year i've been having a lot of problems with my vehicle it's been shutting off while i was driving. Also my battery light stays on, and assuming that my battery or alternator needs to be replaced. I replaced the parts with new ones and still doing the same thing, the battery light is still on. Now my car does not turn on at all it's dead!!!!

Purchased 2003 alero on oct 8, 2009 on oct. 9th car would not start or jump, abs and security light was on, radio turned off. Had it towed back to dealer who looked at it the next day and the car started right up and they could not duplicate the problem so they did not do any work to it. On oct 15 while my daughter was driving the vehicle onto the interstate the abs light and security light came on and the steering wheel turned sharply to the left and she could not control the vehicle. This caused an accident with injuries. The diagnostic report was limited due to the extent of damage to the vehicle and the only code they could get to register was that the abs code was on. Was told that the diagnostic did not show anything else but diagnostics was limited anyways because the vehicle was not drivable anymore.

The blinkers stopped working, but realized there was a short with the hazard lights as soon as i would push the hazard lights in a little the blinkers would start working.recently pushing the hazard lights does not make the blinker blink, nor does it cause the hazard lights to work anymore. Was told by mechanic this is a common problem with the 2003 alero.

The olds alero has a defective passlock theft deterrent system. It shows up when you insert your key in the ignition, turn it, hear the engine cranking, only to fail to start. The dashboard's red warning light, security, flashes on and off. It believes it is being stolen, thus shutting off the gas to the engine. The problem actually stated 4 months after i bought my car, which i purchase used from a dealer, i believe im the 2nd ower. This issure happens about once or twice every 3 weeks or so. My dad actually thought it was the battery contacts because they were loose, so he tightened them up, then it took care of the problem for about a month. The another strange issue came up, about 3 months ago, as my car sat in park for about 2 hours, just out of the blue the horn started to "blow" like the alarm was set off, but the lights were not flashing so it wasnt that, about 20 minutes it did this til it blew the fuse for the horn. And now im without a horn in my car, which is not very safe.so i changed the fused, the horn worked for 1 day, then blew again, i changed the actual horn and another fuse, and just 3 days ago, i heard in the middle of the night, my horn going off again for no reason, and the fuse blew again, driving with no horn.so im driving my car that has this anti-theft feature and i dont know if its working from 1 day to the next, the security lights stays on my dashboard so i know something is apparently wrong with it, usually that when i know, my car will not start when i see that light come on and i have to do the trick with sitting in the car with the ignigtion on for 10 minutes before starting it. I googled this problem to see if anyone else is having this problem and found hundred of people tht are, contacted gm and olds corp, they say there is not recall on the system because there is nothng wrong with it. Something has to be for all the customers to be having the same problems and apparently is has been goin on for years and they wont help.

I was driving down the road when the security light came on and stayed on.about one minute later, the car died while i was driving approx. 50 mph.thank goodness there was no traffic and i was able to pull over off the road.the car did start back up this time.the passlock system has engaged before and we have followed the suggestions we found online and gotten it to start back up...i just don't think i should have to follow some sort of ritual to get my car to start; not to mention, the safety issue of having a car die in while going down the road at 50 mph.

Purchased 2003 alero in 2004, 2nd one (i loved the first one), with 32k miles. Vinyl over passenger airbag was peeling - dealer fixed at no cost - now in 2010 it peeled off completely. At 39k had to replace the ignition cylinder. One of the front drivers side window bracket broke - waiting for the window to fall into the door. At about 50k the turn signal clicking starting without using the signals & is still do it today. I have not tried to fix it because i have read so many thing on the internet about cost & that it was recalled on older alero models.it has finally gotten to the point that the signals only work part time and i have to turn on the hazards to get the turn signal to work - accident causing i think so. The plastic around the gear shift that lights up at night now gets hot enough to hurt if touched. I am very disappointed that gm won't help so many people that have put money and faith in their product. I think gm just doesn't want to deal with the olds products.if it was a problem then and there are so many complaints now then it must still be a problem. I personally will not recommend a gm vehicle to anyone and will be going back to ford.

The security light flashes and car will not start, have to turn key to the on accessory mode for 10 minutes to re-set system and then car will start, also security light will randomly come on and stay on. And then turn off.

This all started estimated in april 2010.when the security light comes on i know it will not start the next time i get in it.it could not start once or 3 times.it very scary sitting in my car with the key turned on for 10 minutes.then i can turn it off and turn back on and it will start.i have had it looked at and he put a new fuel pump on it, then it did it again and the next time he firxed it by reseting the computer but it did last.i talked to other people and they say they have the same problem.the way i found out how to fix was i called a tow truck and he told me what to do.have you had any compaints like this?

Bought car in 2006, have had problems the entire time i've owned vehicle. Car does not crank, must wait 10 minutes and try to restart. Sometimes car does not start still, makes me wait another 10 min. Had multiple problems with system killing the battery while waiting - especially in winter, even with all extras (including heat) turned off. Not safe to have female in parking lot when car does not start! this happens two or three times some days, then will not reappear for a week or two, but theft light stays on dash constantly.

The odometer faded out.came back on when i knocked on the dash.this worked 2 or 3 times.now no odometer. The other dash lights are working fine.just the odometer.

Ignition lock cylinder failure resulting in the device stocking and becoming stuck inoperable. At first it was difficult to turn to the run possition. It would feel stuck and took some wiggling and shaking in order to start the vehicle. Which progressed to being stuck permanently.

The passlock feature is defective. Numerous times i have been stranded due to my car not starting. I have gotten a new battery and the problem is still there. When the car doesn't start i will do what the manual says and turn the key to "on" and let it stay there for 10 minutes, after that it will start. That can become very frustrating when you have two small kids and it is 20 degrees outside. There really should be a recall on this feature, i took the car to the dealership and they are telling me it will cost over $400.00 to fix. Normal hard working people don't have that type of money just laying around to fix a car, gm really should do better. There really should be a recall to fix this problem without costing the consumer.

Purchased vehicle august 2003 at 29,000 miles.front left wheel bearing bad just inside warranty time - under 36,000 miles.shortly after, front right wheel bearing went bad - not in warranty.now at 129,000 miles, front left wheel bearing is bad again.not using oem equipment this time as it isn't cost effective to pay for oem equipment - when it obviously lacks quality.i'm assuming my front right wheel bearing will go bad soon - better start saving for that repair!next issue - horn blows without provocation and will not stop - 3:00 in the morning.next issue: fuel issue, where you have to turn the key to the on position for 10 minutes then car will start.does not happen all the time but usually when you do not have the extra 10 minutes.

I believe my car should be in the gm recall. When staring the car at times there is a delay with dash board lights coming on. Today i started my car with my automatic starter then 7 minutes later i hear a horn non stop beeping i lookout my door and my car is smoking and in flames from hood. Investigator tells me it totaled. After they put the fire out i look in car and only one air bag came out.

Tried to start car and it would not start, only crank.started next morning and had it towed to repair shop and it would not start intermittently. Repair shop said to take it home because they could not diagnose or fix.i checked the internet and discovered that this has been an ongoing problem with certain gm vehicles and many people are complaining. There is a way to start it sometimes by waiting ten minutes with key in acc and then turning off and then removing the key and then re starting.this isworking but not always.apparently gm is fully aware of this problem but has taken no action to correct it.i am afraid that i may be stranded somewhere or the security system could possibly turn the car off.also there is discussion that this may also be a bad ignition switch but there is no recall for this vehicle for the switch, only the key!

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was repaired under the manufacturer recall related to the ignition switch; however, the failure recurred. The failure mileage and nhtsa campaign number were unknown.

Came out after work to start my car and turned the key and got nothing.had the car towed before i was told it was due to the security system in this model. After researching the internet and a call to the dealer where i purchased the car i was told to leave the car in the on position for 10-15 minutes then turn it off and start the car. Which worked but at sub zero temps. This is not a very acceptable solution. And as this happens at least once a day now it is not what i paid for. The windshield has been removed and reinstalled bcs. I was told it leaked and was causing the problem and when that didn't solve it the ignition was replaced twice and to no avail it still doesn't start as it should.

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero. On several occasions, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

When traveling between 25mph and 50mph the vehicle will turn off and will take up to 10 minutes to start.this occursweekly, i received a recall call noticed stating that it was the key fob and that key covers were installed on 10-09-2014.this did not remedy the vehicle shut down and the number of incidents have increased.

Bought the 2003 alero oldsmobile in march 2007, not realizing the ongoing problems with the stalling and not starting issues. Many times with children in the car have been stranded when car would not start. First time, replaced battery; second time and third time took to mechanic spent $390.00 to attempt to fix car however still has issue. Mechanic said it had electrical issue with security system conflicting with wireless internet radio waves. Had to have it towed into the mechanic. Soon after a week the problem occurred again:i read on a automotive forum to put key on the "on" position for 10 minutes wait for the security light to stop blinking and then start the car (should work it stated) it worked however it is now sometimes a daily problem. I now allow 10 minutes leway in departure to allow for this aggravating problem to arise.this problem is a high security issue not safe to be stranded with single mom with kids in parking lots and as well as being out to town.has caused to miss work.this is a ongoing issue and not sure how to remedy the problem. To add to the problem, the horn has been sounding off (as it it stuck position) for the last week 11/12/2007while driving another occurrence 11/16/07park position key not in the ignition at 2:00amin a apartment complex.to quick resolve issue i tapped the horn on steering column it would go off again, then had roommate disarm the horn wire.

2003 oldsmobile alero would shut down at times during left turns under 35 mph. Kept a log on these events updated 3/28/14the ignition switch was replaced.

I recently purchased this vehicle. Last week, went to the dmv to take a driving test and the horn would not start. Brought the car back home, checked the fuse box. The horn fuse had been taken out of the car. Put a new fuse in and the horn would not stop. I must also include that due to this failure, my keyless car entry/lock will not beep. Also, i assume that my car alarm will not work because of this issue. Brought car to the mechanic, apparently in order to fix this problem, the airbag must be removed, costing approximately $1800 to repair. Obviously, i am not willing to pay this price and now will have to figure out a makeshift horn option. This is an extremely important issue that many people have had with this vehicle.

I have a 2003 oldsmobile alero that i bought used with 48,000 miles.and i have a similar problem as many other people.sometimes when i go to put turn signal on, it won't work.this happens at random times with no notice.i often get honked at for not using my turn signal, when i have every intention of doing so, they just won't work.also, sometimes when i start my car, the dials do not come on automatically.they all remain on zero.it has even taken up to 5 minutes for my communication system to register that i have started the car. Also, at times my air conditioner will just stop blowing.it comes back on in a few minutes, but it will come on and go off several times.then it will finally remain on.all these things happen in conjunction with each other but i can't be able to locate the cause of the problems.i don't even know if they are related, i just know they all happen at the same time.

Car dash lights, cd player, and ac unit do not turn on when car starts. This usually occurs after the car has been driven and is warm. After leaving the car for approximately 15 minutes and then starting the car again that is when the problem usually occurs. Problems with electrical system- on several occasions, car has completely shut down in the middle of driving, disabling power steering. Also, horn likes to go off on its own- had to remove fuse to stop it.

For the past year or so, it's been difficult to get the vehicle started and out of park. I first went to the gm website when the june 2014 recall for 2003my alero started and it said the vehicle was not recalled. I read a subsequent story that the gm website recalls.gm.com wasn't accurately displaying recalls where no parts are available. Went to the site after the repairs this past weekend and it said my car was recalled. After calling the support number and having them look up the vin, they didn't see my car was recalled in their system although the call center tech stated the problem sounds similar to existing issues. He provided a gm sr # and requested my local dealership to follow up, but it would be considered a diagnosis outside of recall.unsure based on differing reports from gm on the vehicle being safe or not.

Car has been having acceleration issues her and there has had a fuel leak for awhile now and now all of a sudden the car will not start..

I purchased my 2003 oldsmobile alero from an individual. I have had problems with the blinkers ever since. Some days they will work off and on, some days not at all. From what i have read this is a common problem in these types of vehicles. This issue puts me and my children in danger. Just the other day we were almost hit because my blinker quit working right before i made a right turn.

2003 oldsmobile alero passlock security system cause my car not to start, i have to reset which takes over 10 minutes, and praying it will start after that. But at times the battery went dead before the security light quit flashing as alot longer then 10 minuteshave a new battery in the car. 4-09-2011 was in a parking lot was the 6th time this happen. Then on 4-11-2011 when going to take mom for doctors appointment. Again next day after a funeral would not start again. On 4-13-2011 took to car dealer and they had to put in a new ignition switch which costs me $575. I believe this should have been recalled as so many others having the same problem. This may end me buying another oldsmobile or chevyi was getting so afraid to even drive it any more and be stranded somewhere, have not been taking my great grandkids in the car as the are ages 5 and under. Why is there not a recall with so many others having this same problem.

The vehicle dies.while cruising at any speed, the hydraulic brakes & steering failed due to the engine dying.there is no set pattern, it might stall 6 times in one day, then twice the next day.then go 4 days with no ocurrence, then it will stall once a day for 3 days.then go a week with no ocurrence, then stall 4 times a day for 5 days, etc., etc.in every ocurrence, it takes approximately 10 minutes before it will start back up.at high speeds, it is extremely too dangerous to drive.we've taken it to the dealer, under extended warranty, the required 4 times under the lemon law process.the dealer cannot ascertain, nor fix the problem.it happened to the dealer at least once when we took it in.i doubt they will admit it, however, my wife was witness.the car is a 2003.even though i bought it in july 2003, it was considered a used car.gm has denied our claim since the lemon law does not apply to used cars.the car has been permanently parked since november 2003.we were forced to buy another car.the dealer would not trade.this has resulted in a badluck situation for us.we cannot afford 2 car payments / 2 insurance premiums, nor can we afford $300.00 per hour to sue gm.i stopped making payments in december 2003.i have kept the finance company abreast of the situation.they have not repossed as of yet.they want me to try to sell it.can you help ?

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero.the contact stated that the horn failed to sound when depressed.the failure occurred intermittently.the contact stated that the horn activated without provocation and he had to remove the fuse to shut it off.the dealer stated that the horn wiring in the steering wheel pad was stuck.the current mileage is 67,000 and failure mileage was 50.the consumer stated gm explains the horn contact is integral to the air bag assembly which must be replaced to repair the horn at the sum of $800. The consumer provided information from a website pertaining to the same defect as the vehicle in question. Updated 08/20/07

The horn had never been easy to use, nor did it always function, but suddenly it would not shut off, then it completely died. On taking the car to the dealership, they diagnosed a short-circuit and pronounced that it would cost $1,390.00 + tax to repair, as they would need to replace the air bagin addition to the 2 horns that the car apparently has.

I used my horn to let someone know that they were in my lane, and all of a sudden my horn was stuck. The window clips on my car broke off, as i have read of these same complaints of other 2003 oldsmobile alero owners. I believe that there are serious defects of these two parts, and gm will not issue a recall to fix these problems. Due to that fact, i am unable to pass inspection because my car has to have a working horn and my window must be able to move up and down. Also a third complaint, there is now coolant that is starting to leak into my oil, which from what i understand could cause a fire!!

I have a 2003 oldsmobile alero.the horn stopped working, checked fuse and that was fine.took car to dealer that i bought it from. They informed me that the horn is attached to airbag module, to get horn to work again i would have to replace airbag module, approximate cost $1100.00.i do not have that kind of money for repair.i need a horn.....not a new airbag module!why replace a perfectly good airbag module to get the horn to work?definite design flaw. Costly one at that.

The car will not turn on. The security light blinks on and off, indicating that the system is not being reset. I have tried unlocking and locking the car repeatedly. I tried cleaning the iginition switch, replaced spark plugs, air filter, etc.the keys do not have the micro chip in them, so i know it is not the key.

Security light flashes on dash board. Vehicle will not start until 10 minutes, after the light stops. I had this same problem a year ago in had it fix at a gm dealer for about $360.00. This is a ongoing issue with gm vehicle.

Auto stalled out twice when slowing down to yield, stopping completely in traffic areas so that the vehicle had to be pushed aside. After the first time the battery was replaced. The second time, the battery was jumped and the car started. The alternator was tested at that time and indicated excess current flow. During this period of two weeks, on several occasions intermittently, the parked vehicle would crank but the engine would not turn over. Each time, with numerous attempts, the vehicle would start and would perform for a day or so then repeat the problem. Inspections indicated that the battery and alternator were fine and there were no other indicators of cause. Finally, when brought to a dealership, they found that the ignition cylinder had failed and the pass lock security system was shutting down the car because it did not recognize the key. The cylinder was replaced and new keys created, but the problem occurred again. Further investigation found that the ignition module has failed also.

I have a 2003 olds alero in which the passlock theft deterrent system keeps acting up, shutting my car down completely. This has happened many times prior to today (6-19-10) however those were instances that i was trying to start the car and after doing the "key in the on position for 10 minutes"method, the car would start. Today however the car stalled as i was driving down a busy street. I was completely stranded. I've owned the car now for 4 years, and the passlock has sporadically engaged a total of 10 times, including today. However, unlike the previous enabling, my car now sits on a trailer unwilling to start at all.having a car completely quit while driving down a road is a life threatening situation and i would like to have it remedied immediately by the manufacturer, as i feel the passlock system should be recalled.

I experienced ignition failure recently.the vehicle would not start, and after having it towed to a repair shop, i discovered that the passive system had failed.i later learned that the mechanic had replaced this very item on 6 other vehicles exactly the same year and model as mine within the past month. (that seems like an awful lot for one shop to do.)i was told that the replacement part including labor would be $460!!this was quite expensive, but much less than the dealer wanted (as expected).i have since discovered that this is a rather common problem on this vehicle, yet it was not recalled.

Car has repeatedly shut off at speed, sometimes restarting, twice needing to be towed.

1200 miles after j02 recall car runs sluggish going up canyon. Stop car and engine is misfiring. Turn around and coast downhill in neutral until check engine light turns on then stop and park car for several hours. Called dealer and asked what i should do. Coast out of the canyon with the engine off. Turn engine on after several miles and no more problems. Drive home carefully. Next day throws several codes and running sluggish.several days later codes are gone right before it goes to dealer. They can't diagnose if car has no active codes or symptoms. About a week later turn car on and car is making a knocking sound and has several pending codes. Carefully drive home. Codes didn't save. Finally able to take to dealer around june 25th while car is making the knocking noise but no codes and they think it's a lifter but not sure. I left the car and they say they can't replicate the issue. Literally the same day i pick the car up it is knocking and consistently does so for the next week as soon as the engine warms up.july 5engine sounds like it's being hit by a hammer and throws p0011 cam timing advanced. Oil pressure is 5psi at idle and 40psi at 5000rpm. Have car towed to dealer because it probably wouldn't make the drive and they say it is piston slap without even opening the engine they determine it is not caused by the recall. At this point the engine is sitting in my garage with the timing cover, oil pan and one valve cover off and i don't know what to do with it. I can't afford to pay them to fix something that is happening to dozens of people after the recall.i'm going to try to get the dealer to actually tear it down to diagnose it.. Codes thrown so far are p0011 p219a p0301 p000a p0420 knocking seems to be when oil warms up and oil pressure drops to about 30psi and below.

I used my horn to let someone know that they were in my lane, and all of a sudden my horn was stuck. The window clips on my car broke off, as i have read of these same complaints of other 2003 oldsmobile alero owners. I believe that there are serious defects of these two parts, and gm will not issue a recall to fix these problems. Due to that fact, i am unable to pass inspection because my car has to have a working horn and my window must be able to move up and down. Also a third complaint, there is now coolant that is starting to leak into my oil, which from what i understand could cause a fire!!

Automatic transmission failure at 750 miles.atained speed of 65mph for a few seconds then acted as if it slipped into neutral, i manually downshifted to 3rd gear at 45mph and proceeded to next safest place to stop.after stopped i shifted to d and then took off and it would not shift out of first gear.i stopped again and waited a few second then took off and it begain to shift normally again.i went directly to the dealer, they did a dianogstic test and it said nothing was wrong.problem has not happened since.at about 24,000 miles i noticed a pool of antifreeze on my garage floor and evidence of it leaking onto my front right drive shaft.i took it to the dealer they filled my antifreeze level back up and did a test and said they could not find a leak, they said it might of came out of the drain hole where it would normally leak when the bearing in the water pump goes out....have not noticed any more leaks, sometimes smell burnt antifreeze.also at about 25,000 miles the numbers and letters on the buttons on the radio were becoming wore off, which seems way too early for that to happen.

Our 2003 olds alero gl 4-dr with 3.4l v-6 and 75,000 miles had a blown intake gasket. We were having to add coolant to the car once every 2 months, but thought nothing of it and figured we had some kind of a leak in the reservoir.it began to make a rattling noise, which was when we took it to our car dealer. We were told that coolant has been leaking into the engine ,and will now have to spend $1300 to replace the gasket. Therewas no guarantee that this will fix the problem.

Oldsmobile alero died while driving down the road. This has happened on several occasions.

I was never told about this recall at all. I was on my computer and found out about the information. My son and i are co-owner of this car, and we have never been told about any recalls for the car. I use my car to take my grandchildren to school and i would like the problem fix. Please help me

My lower intake manifold is leaking just as is popular on these types of engines.also my turn signal is working off and on.i have sent letters to gm with no response or success.

Traveling down an interstate hwy. Lost steering. Had the car towed home. Jacked the car up and found the nut on the bolt that hold the rack and pinion to the frame has come off and broke the bracket.

I own a 2003 oldsmobile alero that has an intermittent problem with the turn signals/hazard switch.the turn signals will fail to operate without prior notification.last friday this almost resulted in an rear-end accident as i was making a left turn from a two lane highway.when i referred to alero problems and fixes i noticed recall id#32353. This is the exact problem that occurred with the 1999-2001 olds alero. I found that when the signals fail to operate an upward push on the hazard switch allows the signal to operate.this situation needs to be reviewed further as the problem does not seem to be resolved.i can not speak for others but if this failure resulted in injuries that caused the recall in 2003 the same considerations needs to be held for the later models in 2002 and 2003.the internet is loaded with this turn signal issue.

This incident occurred for the first time on a rainy day in 2011. I was a new driver at the time. While i was traveling at approximately 45 mph on my way to school, i put on my turn signal to change lanes. There was heavy traffic on the road, and i was going to need someone to let me into the lane. My turn signal, however, malfunctioned and would not illuminate. The resulting lack of communication between myself and the other driver very nearly caused an accident.this problem has persisted intermittently for the last three years. The malfunctioning of the turn signals occurs most often during wet or humid conditions. Only recently did i discover the source of the problem. When i attempt to activate the turn signal and it malfunctions, it can oftentimes be remedied by applying a small amount of pressure to the hazard light button. It was only a few days ago that i encountered an existing recall for earlier models of my car. The hazard light button has been recalled on the previous two model years (2001-2002) of the oldsmobile alero. It can not be a coincidence that the same problem is occurring in my vehicle. I looked into getting the button replaced, but the labor costs make replacement an expensive option. I should not have to pay for a systemic defect that egregiously affects the functionality and safety of my vehicle. Please consider extending the recall of the hazard light button to the 2003 model year of the oldsmobile alero. Thank you.

2003 oldsmobile alero ---- turn signals are intermittent. Turn signals quit working and fail to warn other drivers of intentions to turn causing unsafe driving conditions. Near miss accidents have occurred as a result of turn signal failures.

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero. While driving 30 mph, the turn signals failed to function and smoke emitted from the top part of the steering column. In addition, while driving 55 mph, the headlights and horn failed to function. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.

Blinker indicator on 2003 oldsmobile alero sporatically works, causing extreme danger when driving because it prevents driver from notifying other drivers on the road of lane changes, left/right hand turns, or vehicle problems when hazard lights are turned on but vehile fails to respond.2003 alero sporatically makes "click" noises such as when one uses the blinker, even though driver has not initiated blinker use and blinker indicator lights do not display on the outside of the vehicle. Bought this 2003 olds alero in 2005 with original warranty still in force, also purchased extended warranty.this vehicle had dash peeled back and material over glove box peeledwhen purchased, also cracked plastic on back passenger side.molding around windshield was coming off and has since blown away.had to purchase battery almost immediately and 4 new tires after purchase.contacted dealership where purchased to get interior items repaired and was informed they did not do warranty work on this brand of vehicle, that i would have to call another dealer who sold this type of car.i did and was told that none of these repairs were covered under warranty.also, running lights only one was working, found out it had beenfixed and the bracket under which held the light was broken.was told i would have to pay for all repairs out of pocket.now 2008 and all items still broken since i did not have money to repair, also car pulls to left, and brakes are grinding.i have never had a vehicle that has this many problems before at least 75,000 miles.i would never recommend this car to anyone.

Vehicle lost power while driving on three occasions. On other occasions, the vehicle would not start after turning over. Three repair shops could not find the problem but the general consensus was that it had to do with the fuel delivery system. Many identical complaints can be found online (i.e., carcomplaints.com) and everything from replacing the fuel pumps, relay switches, batteries, anti-theft systems to washing out the fuel tank has been tried to know avail. The shop cannot fix the problem, and it will be hard to sell the car honestly with the problems it has. There is a mass of people who believe this should be a recall from the factory, and although i doubt it makes any difference, i am one more person in that mass.

I was driving down the hwy at 55mph and my car died i had to coast to the side of road lucky i didn't get in a wreck it has happen 2 times so far after sitting on the side road for 20 minutes it started back up.

Fuel pump and electronic system.

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the security system caused the vehicle to stall repeatedly without warning. The contact stated that the failure would occur sporadically and oftentimes, the vehicle would restart immediately and other times it would not. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired the fuse box yet the failure recurred within the week. The fuel pump was then replaced and the failure did not recur. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 84,527.

Fuel pump and electronic system.

I have power windows in my alero and the clips keep breaking every time i have them replaced!! i have replaced these clips 4 times!!! is there a way to fix the window once & for all so that i can use it? this will not pass nh state inspection without the window working properly!

While driving at any speed driver heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front.suddenly, the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection numerous times, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem. The rpm's increased when braking at 37-40 mph.

Car seemed to be fine..all of a sudden car would not go into reverse.. Took it to a close shop and he saida sleeve within the driven sprocket assembly had shifted due to insufficient interference fit, blocking the oil feed hole for the second clutch....haven't been able to do anything!estimate was 1500-2000!!!i have a car that i still owe 7000 for that i can do nothing with!maybe god will send me 2000 dollars to fix it.

2003 oldsmobile alero slid down an ice covered hill, struck a tree and the seat belts released.*mrthe rear seat belts secured two child safety seats, 1 booster seat and one child seat, which were thrown about during the accident.both children sustained contusions to the forehead.

Last summer my family and i loaded into my 2003 olds alero gl for a trip.the passenger seat would click but not lock in place.the first time i tried to stop the vehicle, the seat slid forward with my wife in it.i've been to a local dealership 3 or 4 times and this still happens.now that my warranty is expired i don't let anyone sit in that seat or i use my wife's car when carrying passengers to avoid the repair costs.a couple of months ago the drivers side window fell off track and and broke the mounting bracket on the glass, the repair bill was almost $400.about 2 weeks ago the window has started squeaking and rattling.i have stopped using it until i can get it to the dealership that did the repairs.a week and a half back i noticed a rattling noise in my front suspension and a week ago i had to spend almost $450 to replace my brake rotors and pads and have my suspension inspected.nothing wrong was found with the suspension, but the noise is still there.i've taken the car to a local dealership and meineke 3 times total over the last year complaining of grinding and reduced stopping power.both told me that visibly there was nothing wrong with my brakes and i had 15-20,000 miles of wear left, that was less than 6,000 miles ago.new issue.3 days ago my windshield washer stopped working.when i tried to operate the washer fluid shot out of the top of the resevoir and soaked the entire engine compartment.

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal failed to respond when it was depressed. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 125,000.

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact indicated that after restarting the vehicle the steering malfunctioned, causing extreme difficulty in turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that both control arms were faulty. The vehicle was repaired but the defect recurred. The contact indicated that the vehicle would intermittently stall while driving but an independent mechanic was unable to diagnose the defect. The contact also indicated that the air bag warning light was replaced because of constant illumination of the warning light. Additionally, the brakes malfunctioned but the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 93,000.

I live in a hot "ambient" environment, the south. I am the third owner of my 2003 alero oldsmobile. My car's accelerator sticks and will not return to idle. It continues to do this and it seems like it is getting worse. It is also affecting the rest of the car and its parts. My brakes are probably going out because of the accelerator pedal being stuck and me having to hold the brakes down while its revving past 3000 rpms in park. I have contacted gm and they claim that my vin isn't effected. I have read about and talked to many other owners of the 2003 alero oldsmobile and they also were turned away and said that their vins were not effected. I think that gm might not be taking this recall seriously but i am positive that this recall is valid for my car and it is scary when i have my two boys that are under five in my backseat when the accelerator sticks and continues to do and even when i turn off my vehicle and turn it back on it continues to do so. I am filing this complaint in hopes that ya'll would be able to help me . Thank you so much.

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero. While driving various speeds, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The failure occurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 138,000.

Car has repeatedly shut off at speed, sometimes restarting, twice needing to be towed.

While driving 40 mph and approaching a stop light consumer depressed the brake pedal andwithout warning brake pedal descended to the floorboard. This caused the consumer to run into a traffic light pole. Extended stopping distance became necessary to control the vehicle for stopping.

While drivingat 65 mph in the rain consumer depressed the brakes and theylocked up, causing the driver to lose control ofvehicle, and hit a large rock head on. The vehicle bounced off the rock and hit the embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over three times. The emergency medical services were called to the scene. Consumer stated that both frontal air bags did not deploy.

My ignition switch does not invoke the engine. It has happened couple of times with my alero. Last year as per the recall notice gm dealer changed the keys and not the entire ignition module. Car sharply pulld to left and then veared off road and started flipping down an embankment. Highway patrol and other witnesses saw car while turned upside down and saw tierod was completely broken, mentioning that this was what caused it to sharply vear to the left.

The dashboard of my 2003 olds alero is buckling and peeling in several places. I am trying to obtain proof of other similar problems that anyone else has had. Gm has been of no assistance to me.

90,000 miles on car, need to replace bearings for a second time! the system is set up so that when the bearings fail the anti-lock brake system also fails. I have had many problems on ice/water when my system suddenly fails. This car should go much longer on new bearings - this will be my 3rd set.

Front end suspension failed. Consumer tookvehicle to a dealer to be serviced, but they would not help him. He contacted oldsmobile manufacturer, and they referred him to a richardson oldsmobile dealership. When he again took this vehicle to get it serviced, they did not fix it becausedealer claimed that they could not find the cause of theproblem.also, while driving back window mad e a loud squeaking noise. It seemed like the window was not secure and was about to fall off.

At about 43,000 miles my 2003 olds alero began experiencing grinding or humming noises from the front end that got louder with acceleration.after inspecting the front bakes and determining the brakes may need replacing i visited my local car dealership.after a test drive i was told the left front wheel bearings were damaged and needed replacement immediately.the entire driver side wheel bearing assembly was replaced at a cost of nearly $300.

Dt: the right passenger side wheel bearing failed. There were only 37,811 miles on the car when it failed.the vehicle was having problems for about a week. The owner noticed problems while driving. The problem was evident as soon asvehicle picked up speed vehicle was making a noise, a humming sound. Owner had the wheel bearing replaced. General motors did reimburse the owner for the repairs. Owner has been in contact with gm and his local dealership. The owner was aware of other people with similar problems with the same vehicle.

Got my car told to shop it was running when got car would not start up the key would not turn

Recall 14350 was fixed but after a week, the car started to shut off again while driving . Please help.no one seem to know what is wrong . This is my transportation back and fourth to work. I never no whether i'am going to get home or not.

I was driving on the interstate and the car jumped up ito 6 and 7 rpms in the red got stuck even when pedal was not pressed stayed there i the red for a few seconds with no warning lights finally dropped and started knocking.

Thank you.

This is the 3rd time i have had this problem the security lights is flashing, car will not start. So go and turn key to on position wait 10 minutes but today it was 20 minutes until lights stop flashing then turn key to off position before trying to start. Today it would not start at all. So i am without transportation until i can get help.

Power mirror switch failed. Loss of more than one hvac blower motor speeds (faulty switch or faulty blower motor resistor block?). Hvac direction control unit may need to be replaced (a/c and heat blowing out of front vents only; switch does not work).

I have had problems starting this car off and on for the past 3 years. There are some days it won't start, then there are some days that when it starts, as i'm driving it will die..... Sometimes it will start againand sometimes it won't. I've had it in the shop first (gm dealer) they first cleaned out the igniters, that worked for about 2 months, then they said it needs a new fuel pump, had that replaced, that lasted about a year, then my machanic replaced my ignition switch, said something about a sensor gone bad....guess what...good for about 6 months..... Now i'm stuck with a car with littlemoney to fix it. What should i do?

Throttle sticking on 2003 oldsmobile alero gl.while driving the vehicle would not decelerate.as a result the consumer was involved in an accident.the consumer had contacted the dealer prior tot he accident about the throttle sticking.the consumer found out about a recall for throttle sticking and request reimbursement for vehicle repairs.

After buying my 2003 alero, i noticed a lag in the ignition system. I took it into the dealership under warranty and had them keep it for 3 days. No problem found, they could not duplicate it. So i lived with this problem. But now my car is randomly accelerating while i am driving it down the road or sitting in park. If you put the car in neutral the rpms jump up to almost red lining. In park the rpms go up to 3.5-4.5 rpm, and in drive it idles at around 50 mphs. Without even hitting the accelerator my car drives at 50 mph! after months of this occurring i found out that my specific car's vin was recalled for this exact reason. I contact the dealership, they tell me to bring it in. After 1 1/2 hours of waiting they tell me that gm refuses to pay for the recall fix. I have spent countless hours on the phone and no one will help me. I am reading and this is happening to tons of people. How can they legally get away with this??? i need help. I am a single mother who drives her 6 yr old daughter around in this death trap.

While driving on a city road at approximately 40 mph, the car randomly began accelerating on its own. I immediately pushed on the brake pedal only to discover the car continued to accelerate. I stomped on the brake as hard as possible to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I moved the gear shift to neutral to try to keep the car from accelerating but that did nothing. I was barely able to turn off onto a side street where i was able to shut of the engine and make the car stop before hitting other vehicles. The car's engine revved up so high that it sounded as if it were going to blow up the engine. Now there is oil leaking severely under the car after this incident.

Car has been having acceleration issues her and there has had a fuel leak for awhile now and now all of a sudden the car will not start..

I was driving on the interstate and the car jumped up ito 6 and 7 rpms in the red got stuck even when pedal was not pressed stayed there i the red for a few seconds with no warning lights finally dropped and started knocking.

I noticed an issue but thought it was all in my head because i had been pulled over for speeding on the way home from work because the car accelerated by without my foot on the pedal...although i was pulled over already to investigate why the car accelerated yet i still received a ticket .wasn't too sure what happened on 11/4 at about 3:10pm i was involved in a motor vehicle accident turning the corner , the pedal stuck or wouldn't stop not too sure but i lost all control of vehicle trying to avoid a car on the right i swerved and hit the car on the left thus destroying my car and the other car in the process.

I was driving my 2003 oldsmobile alero home from work on june 8, 2005 when all of the sudden it started accelerating on it's own.my foot was not even on the accelerator!then when i tried to stop my car didn't want to stop.i had to throw the car into neutral in order to prevent my car from running into the car in front of me.i pulled over onto a side road and put my car in park and the engine kept racing.i tried turning the car off, i tried switching from drive to neutral to park.nothing worked.i started driving again to see if it would stop and after a few minutes my car returned to normal.i took my car to the dealership where it was purchased and when i called to see if they were finished fixing my car i was told they could not find anything wrong; so my boss and i took it into our own hands.we found out there was a recall on 2003 oldsmobile aleros where in hot ambient conditions (it was about 90 degrees that day) the accelerator pedal arm may stick at the attachment to the bracket and not return to the engine idle position when the operator lifts his foot from the accelerator pedal.i brought the report we found with me to the dealership, but he refused to help.he said he could not fix it under the warranty because there was not a recall on my specific vin number.he also could not fix it under the warranty because they could not duplicate the problem.i left and called oldsmobile directly.there were just as helpful as miller subaru dealership.i was told i could get a second opinion from another gm dealership, but it won't get fixed unless the problem is duplicated.i know my specific car was not recalled.however, the problem must be more wide spread then they originally thought since i actually had the problem when my car wasn't recalled.i would like to prevent this from happening again and possibly causing an accident and/or injury, but oldsmobile and miller subaru have been totally uncooperative thus far.

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero.while driving at any speed, the accelerator pedal sticks.the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer twice, but they were unable to duplicate the failure.the dealer performed the vehicle inspection twice when the weather was 50 degrees; however, the pedal would stick when the weather was much warmer.nhtsa campaign id number 04v528000 (vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal) was referenced.the contact would like the recall repair performed on his vehicle.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 51,848.

When i drive down the highway the acceleator hangs up on my oldsmobile alero. The engin revs up and the brakes barley stops the car. When you put the car in park it revs up and when you put it in drive it just takes off still revved.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 30 mph the vehicle accelerated without warning.the vehicle crashed into a curb and a flower pot before it was stopped by turning off the engine.upon inspection, it was noticed that the accelerator pedal was stuckand fully depressed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where for repair.there is a nhtsa recall # 04v528000 which was performed on the vehicle concerning, the vehicle speed control, accelerator pedal however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair without charge.

Rear window defroster was in use during city driving, when an odor similar to exhaust was noticed. Driver continued for 3 more blocks, windows down, then stopped. Significant amount of pink smoke was coming from behind a panel on the passenger side rear pillar. Smoke ended within a few minutes of the car being stopped with engine off. Inspection showed burnt and melted defogger unit, damaged insulation, and partly melted plastic panel. Fuse for the unit was removed and car interior cleaned. No other repairs. Event date is approximate.

I own a 2003 olds alero.right after the warranty ended, both back windows fell and wont' stay up.took it to dealer and they wanted $620.00 to repair them.i could not afford it and declined repair.i was then charged $90. For the diagnosis and they put tape on them!now all the car thieves can see the tape or the window down and help themselves.this is outrageous!i own 3 gm autos and have a gm rewards card with rewards discount towards my next purchase that i was planning in the near future.but after the poor quality and poor service practices, i feel taken advantage of.i have discovered that a lot of other owners have had the same problem.i expect gm to stand behind their products and will not buy anymore autos from them until they do.

The window fell out of my driver side door. The entire window assembly had to be replaced. This happened as soon as my warranty expired. The company that fixed my window had (3) other oldsmobile aleros at the same time with the same problem. This should not happen to a new car - it cost me $500 to fix-i can't go without a window!!

2003 oldsmobile alero, i have only had this car approximaytely 9 months, the driver's side power window has stopped working.dealer has told me that warranty is out bacause of mileage.i drive about 700 miles a week for my job, that doesn't mean i sit and play with my power window, with the car being so new, it should still be working.dealership has informed me that the cost to repair it would be around $300, maybe more.i find this to be extremely expensive considering the age of the car.is there not a manufacturer warranty on such parts or is there a problem with the motors in the doors for the window?

The contact owns a 2003 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the four windows failed to open or close. The contact mentioned that both turn signals failed to illuminate. Also, the service engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the fuse needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign id number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

Vehicle experienced electrical problems, such as the turn signal lights came on periodically, and the windows worked intermittently. Consumer tookvehicle back to the dealer, and had also contacted the manufacturer, who was no help at all. The consumer stated that the vehicle still has electrical problems.the consumer was told that the elecrical wiring was replaced but when inspected the old wire was found still in the vehicle.*tc

Drivers side automatic rear window falls down, and won't roll up except by hand.i've read several complaints online of the same issue happening, and sometimes multiple times after repairs were done.i'm surprised there hasn't been a recall.i can't afford the repair, so i'm stuck with the problem.if i go on long trips, i have to tape the window up and the window is an eye-sore because of it.

Continuation of a prior complaint (10908068). On 9/20/16, prior defective starfire rs-c ultimate touring tire replaced with another similar starfire tire (u30h ldj) at pep boys.paid $42.41 (tire handling charge, wheel balance, road hazard warranty, and valve stem). On 10/13/16 noticed new tire was flat/low, tire pressue was down to 18lbs; inflated to 34lbs.on 10/14 tire was flat again down to 19lbs. Used fix-a-flat type product and inflated to 34lbs, appears to be holding.scheduling appt with pep boys to check tire and possibly reseal.why is this happening to this tire brand?is there a defect?
