My 2002 oldsmobile alero has a problem with the passlock security system which causes it to not start. This has been a recurring problem that comes up without warning. I have spent several hundred dollars having parts replaced before doing an online search and realizing that this is a manufacturer defect with the security system. If the key is placed in the "on" position for ten minutes, the security light eventually turns off and the car will start. Since gm is not willing to do anything about this defect, i would like to place a complaint. In my opinion, this is a safety issue. I work in public service, and i use my vehicle to visit clients on a daily basis. It is not only inconvenient to need to wait ten minutes in my car before it will start, but in many locations, it is very unsafe. At any given time, the car will begin to start, but will never turn over, necessitating the ten minute fix. This has occurred several times in the past year, but i have read that the time between incidents is likely to become shorter and shorter. Since gm refuses to issue a manufacturer recall of its own accord, i urge you to take action to ensure that drivers remain safe.

I have had my 2002 oldsmobile alero since 2002.within six months of having this car the ignition switch went bad and was unable to start the car and it had to be repaired.this was repaired by the dealer that i purchased it from because the company that was in charge of my extended warranty went bankrupt.since then i have had to pay to replace a gasket in the engine that keeps engine coolant and engine oil from mixing together because the gasket that was manufactured with the car was not the right thickness.(since this is a known defect by mechanics why wasn't this recalled or a service bulletin initiated?)i continue to have problems with the driver door control panel that controls the windows and the side mirrors and window locks.the windows in my car can only be controlled by the driver because the window lock is stuck in the "on" position.i have also had problems with the windows falling down into the door and have had one window replaced in december 2007 but now in september 2008 the passenger window is experiencing the same symptoms and now will have to replace this window as well.right now the most annoying thing about this car is the turn signals.they function as they should but the clicking noise for the turn signal will not turn off when i have made a turn (it actually makes a clicking noise about 3 times as fast as the regular turn click).i have had this looked at by a mechanic and i was told that this was not part of the hazard light recall which my car falls under so it was not fixed.it is a very distracting problem and the only time i can get relief from the clicking noise is when i actually get ready to make a turn by turning on the actual turn signal.there are a number of problems that numerous owners are experiencing.i am hoping that some thing is done about the windows and the engine gasket.i don't think consumers should be responsible for poor engineering and design.gm should make things right.

Security light comes on and the car shuts off while driving.we lost steering and were headed toward oncoming traffic, but ran over a street sign and stopped.sometimes the light will come on and no problems until after we park and shut the car off.when we try to start it again, sometimes it starts back up fine and other times it turns over, but wont fire.when this happens, we have to turn the key to the on position for 10 minutes.during this 10 minutes the security light flashes.after exactly 10 minutes the light turns solid for 5 seconds and then shuts off.we then take the key out, put it back in and the car starts.my understanding is that the car think it's being stolen and shuts down the fuel system instantly.we lose complete steering when this happens.whats also happening is the security system is draining the battery while the car is shut off.when we get anywhere we have to take the security fuses out so the battery doesn't drain.this is a severe safety concern.there are post all over the internet with people having the same problem.

Car wont start because of security system malfunction found out lots of other people have this same problem with no recalls yet please help!

I have a 2002 oldsmobile alero which throughout the years has not started when you put the key in the ignition and turn. Numerous times i've had my car towed to a mechanic only to have it start once it gets dropped off... Hence they were never able to diagnose the issue. On september 24, 2015 again my car just didn't start. Lights, blinkers, horn all worked but it would not turn on. Finally had a mechanic come to my house and do a diagnostic which read security system lockdown. I went online and this apparently is an ongoing issue with this particular make and model. Hundreds of complaint are listed with the exact problem. Oldsmobile refuses to do a recall. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. To fix this issue my mechanic wants $650.00. I feel because this has been an issue that has been reported repeatedly with thousands of complaints oldsmobile should be responsible to reimburse me.

Blinker is very intermittent and dangerous.sometimes it works, other times nothing.when it is not working the hazard or blinker sound seems to be going off and on constantly.the repair shop said that they would have to tear apart the whole dash just to troubleshoot the problem.this is a very scary problem and can potentially lead to tickets or accidents if not fixed.

The contact owned a 2002 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning, the vehicle spun out and crashed into a median. A police report was filed. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Driving down road all lights quit working nothing on dash works.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled on several occasions. Additionally, the key failed to turn in the ignition. The vehicle was towed on several occasions and repaired. The repairs were unknown, but the failure persisted. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) and stated that the part was not available. The dealer did not provide a specific date for when the part would become available. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.

Known problem with anti theft system car wont start, safety system wont allow, repairs can be maid at dealer for 500. No long term fix. Online people say had repair to have problem happen over and over, dealer recharges for repair each time knowing its a defect in anti theft. Car will strand u cause gm refuses to recall defected system parts.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. While driving at approximately 40 mph, the engine stalled without warning and the vehicle did not restart. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired by an authorized dealer under nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

Blinkers fail especially during humid weather.it began during the summer.blinkers sometimes work, but then will fail.the problem has not been corrected yet.there is a recall out for the 2001 oldsmobile alero, but not for the 2002 even though it is the same problem.

Since 2006, on six different occasions the security light flashes and two to three days later the system locks down and the car does not start. I am stranded and have to have my car towed. Each occurrence has cost me anywhere from $600-$800. Towing fees, taxis to and from work, and use of other individuals' cars are additional expenses. I only take the car to the dealer for the repairs. Each time they tell me a different feature on the anti-theft system has failed and needs to be replaced. I have asked the dealer repeatedly to dismantle the anti-theft device and they say they cannot. Who is going to steal a 2002 alero? i am a single mother with two children in two different colleges. This alero is our only car. To date i have spent $3000 on this "sophisticated" anti-theft system. Help me please. I cannot afford to purchase another car.

Turn signal and hazard lights failure.it started with the turn signals, they would work sometimes and then eventually cut out completely. Hazards worked for a short time after turn signals went out, then both cut out completely.flasher was replaced and fuses were tested and were not the problem.

I was stranded at work at night when my car would not start up.ended up walking 7 miles home in the dark, since my husband works till 1am.i thought it was the fuel pump that had died, but after seeing a website of many people that have had the same issue, i tried leaving the key in the "on" position for 10 minutes to "reset" the computer, and this worked.i just got home with my car, but am praying to god that it does not decide to shut down while i'm driving (there was complaints about this happening as well on the website).i think that gm might be in for a big lawsuit if they do not recall this problem soon, only for the fact that somebody can seriously get injured, and that's if they're lucky enough to not die from an accident.

The car has broke down and wouldn't restart, fuel pump, ecm? modulator fuses. Powering steering leaks all the time and sometimes locks up. Rear defroster won't work. Driver's side controls for windows, locks, stopped working. Drivers side window drops down and breaks-repaired 3 times and just happened again. Belt broke, lost power barely able to get it off the road. Front passenger wheel thumps, pops, etc. Had fixed and still has the same problems. I've maintained routinely, but it continues to keep breaking down.the handle to put in gear/park has broke. A lot of plastic parts, clips etc crumbling apart, knobs, light switches, window tracts. All out of pocket.recall forwindows, rear defrost, power steering, fuel pump, belt breaking, front hubs/wheels/steering !!!!!

Security system malfunction - car willnot start and security system light is blinking for no reason.must wait about 10 minutes and the system resets it self.hundreds of people are having the same problem.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact also stated that the heating system and the control panel would not work. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact referenced notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was unavailable. Djr

The turn signals on my 02 alero do not always work. They will come on and off on random occasions and nothing could be done to fix it. Also the car security system does not always allow the car to start. When the engine doesn't start i have to stick the key in the ignition for 10 minutes until the security light stops flashing then it will start. I had the try to fix it and the only solution they think might work (but not sure) is to turn off the security system completely.

My 2002 oldsmobile alero has a start malfunction which causes the security system to shut the car off while driving. I have replaced the ignition switch and fuel pump on my car, which were told to me were the problem, and the car still will not start at times, and whenever it does start, the car cuts off while driving. This puts me and my children in danger of getting hit by another car because the car stops abruptly.

My 2002 oldsmobile alero turn lights, high lights, horn doesn't work. Work sometimes. I took itseveral times to the mechanic and he didn't find anything.

I love my car but the thing is a death trap. It shut off 15 times within a mile of driving in 5 o'clock traffic. It has almost me my life several times. The dash cluster goes out so i have no idea what speed im going or if the car is running hot. Gm if you think this isn't a problem it is please recall the car fix it and i will keep it till i need a bigger car.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle continuously failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 213,500.

2002 oldsmobile alero.consumer writes in regards to ignition key recall notice and consumer seeks reimbursement for repairs.the ignition switch and lock cylinder were replaced on april 3, 2010.

Alero cuts off while driving and won't start back for hours. Dealership and mechanicscan't find out why this is occurring. Extremely dangerous, the car randomly cuts off without warning.i have searched online and found this forum where others have encountered the very same issue:http://www.carcomplaints.com/oldsmobile/alero/2000/engine/engine_cuts_off_while_driving.shtml.

Oldsmobiles have electrical problems and i am having more electrical problems with this car. This was the start of my problems last year first it was the passlock system that cost me 775.00 to fix. I went to the mall for lunch and came back and the car would mot start. Had to have the car towed to the dealership to find out that sensors were not covered under warranty. The problems continue and come more frequently this was 3-12-2008 the second problem cost me 589.00the module and poil pavk assembly, i was parked in at school and barely made it home, the car was going all of 10-15 miles an hour and would not accelerate,by the grace of god i made it home only live about 10 miles from school.when i got up the next day the car would not start at all. Had to have the car towed to the mechanic.this started may 1, 2008 that leads us to problem three which is going on right now the turning and hazard lights work sometimes and the car makes a ticking sound like the turn signal is on when its not and them it sounds like its short circuiting.. ( was told that this is covered by gm, will contact them to see if this is true)now here we are at problemthis stated 5-18-2008 fourin a matter of weeks: the trac off light, service engine soon and another light is onthe dash ( i will follow up with which light that is) all of my problems with this car has been electrical and i was told by someone at the auto advantage that these cars are notifies for this. There really should be something done in regard to this. I have searched the internet and it is full of the same issues. There is not way that all of these people located in all states everywhere are having the same problems and this is not a defect that should be repaired by gm and not the consumer.

2002 oldsmobile alero. Vehicle burned in the yard, noticed smoke starting to come through the fuse panel.*cwthe consumer stated there was no warning, of any type of problem.the moment she turned the ignition switch off, the problem started.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact heard a whining noise when turning the steering wheel from right to left. The "service vehicle soon" indicator illuminated. The contact called a local dealer (jerry seiner chevrolet, 1530 s 500 w, salt lake city, ut 84115) and was informed that the original key was needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 141,111.

2002 oldsmobile alero seeking reimbursement for out of pocket expenses prior to receiving recall letter the consumer stated the vehicle stopped running, on two occasions. The ignition lock cylinder was replaced.

I have a 2002 olds alero that has alot of electric problems (or so i assume) the turn signal noise turns on while i'm driving and my signal isn't on. This happens daily and is hard to determine if my flasher is actually on or not. Also my car wont always start. My track control light, service engine & low tire pressure light are pretty much always on i've had everything checked out and nothing comes back as to why those lights turn on & off.

I was driving along, i had defroster on, rear window defroster started smoking, melted the rear window trim and rear passenger panel. I stopped the car and turn off engine. Called fire department, took the car to the mechanic, found that the defroster module went bad. The defroster module and wire harness for rear window was replaced. Lots of smoke damage to interior of car.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero.the contact stated that she was unable to restart the vehicle after it was parked.the dealer stated that the ignition and the fuel pump caused the failure and they made the replacement.approximately a year and a half later, the failure recurred.while driving 30 mph, the vehicle would shut off without warning.the dealer stated that there was a malfunction with the security system and was unable to duplicate the failure.however, the dealer replaced the electrical harness.the contact also stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle jerked and then shut off.the dealer stated that the timing chain failed and made the repair.the failure mileage was 22,000 and current mileage was 58,000.

There is a problem with the signals not working.. They may come on and blink or not...i've almost had to accidents this week 9/30/2014 because they fail to work...i have taken my car to see if the bulbs are blown or wiring and nothing comes back as to why they stop and start...i have gotten 2 warnings from a police officer about the failure to work, it can get me tickets or killed.

I bought my 2002 olds alero in may of 2006 and have had problems ever since. I had to have the front left wheel bearing replaced 2 days after i bought the car. The dealership paid for the parts and labor that time, but i was on my own from there. Frequently i was having the problem of the engine turning over, but not starting. I had to call a tow truck 6 times in 2 months. The fuel pump was replaced and a week later i had the same problem. This time it the body module was replaced. 2 days later i was calling the tow truck again. The ignition switch was replaced this time. The next time i threatened to sue the mechanic who had worked on my car. This time the car started right up for the mechanic. He contacted gm to see what the problem could possibly be and of course they had never heard of this problem. After the car was towed to the shop a few more times the mechanic finally got a hold of another mechanic who specialized in gm repairs. That mechanic told him about the faulty security system. He passed on the info to me. If the car won't start, turn the key on for 10 min. Until the security light stops flashing, turn the key off, take it out of the ignition and try it again. This has worked every time for me, but really, who has the extra 10-15 minutes to spare every time they need to go somewhere, just in case their car won't start? i also have problems with the turning signals working only when they want to. This seems to be a common problem among alero owners. After the nightmares i've had with this car and the disrespect shown by gm to their "valued customers", i will never buy another gm model as long as i live! buyer beware!!!

I attempted to start my car to head home on an hour drive. It would not start, no cranking of any kind or power to the starter or starter solenoid. Attempted to start the vehicle again about a half hour later as i waited for my ride to arrive and still nothing. All of the lights worked, everything else worked but the car simply would not start. After reading every other complaint and review this issue is concurrent with the theft issue that many other owners have suffered.

I received recall letter from gm for "unintended key rotation". I had previously contacted gm indicatingissues with ignition switch; gm then issued "unintended key rotation" letter. I had the recall work performed, yet issue continued. I contacted gm;i was informed my vehicle was not eligible for ignition switch recall as vehicle was "outside of parameters of 10 years or 100,000 miles", "whichever comes first".my vehicle is a 2002 with approx. 95,675 miles.i was informed the dealership "suspected" issue was "worn out ignition switch".dealership did not perform mechanical diagnostics, only voiced "suspected". Nhtsa investigation needs to be done to determine if these 2002 vehicles contain the same gmignition part numbers,if so, our vehicles must be included in the gm ignition switch recall.gm described in their recall what the mechanical issues are in this ignition switch recall, my car has those mechanical problems; yet gm refuses to issue a recall letter for "ignition switch" citing they are not obligated because nhtsa set parameters of "10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first." to meet the criteria that gm must issue recall letters for ignition switch.if the defective part is the same on these make models and customers are documenting they have this mechanical issue, they must be included in this recall and we must not be held at a financial hardship and be left with driving known unsafe vehicles.to those olds owners that read my complaint, if you have encountered similar a issue, it is important that you as well file a complaint so that thedatabase will include our make/model years and gm and nhtsa will be required to expand their parameters to include our made/model vehicles in this ignition switch recall.updated 12/10/14.

Out of the blue the turn signals stop working. Almost causing an accident. Took my car to the dealership they gave it back to me , and said that they found nothing wrong with it. Until this day i still have this problem, is there anything i can do to solve this problem?

A.. The rear window defroster quit working. Replaced fuses, relay but still did not work. Having done some internet research found out that a rear connector will melt.looked at the rear connector and it had melted. Dealer charges $ 45 for a new connector so i hot wired it to the module.if they melt they should have been recalled.b. The security light will come on and within a few days the car will be locked down.if you sit for 10 minutes with the ignition on but not started the security will reset. Luckily for me, this has not caused me any $, but i am sure others have had to pay for towing.one should be able to disconnect this option.

My car shut off while driving on downtown street.tow was necessary.ignition sensory assembly had to be replaced.i received recall for this today gm #14350.i was told there would be directions in the case that i already made repair. There are no instructions.i have a very specific receipt for the repair.how do i get reimbursed.phone #'s are always busy...that's why i'm trying for information here. Thanks.

Intermittent turn signals dash and tail lights go out when auto lights try to turn on.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the turn signals failed intermittently and the hazard lights no longer illuminated. The contact mentioned that the engine and brake warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the cause of the failures. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 129,000.

I attempted to start my 2002 oldsmobile alero and it won't start. It was as if the fuel was shut-off.i had to have my car towed home. I noticed the security light was flashing. I checked on-line and people suggested, turning the key to the start position and leaving for 10 minutes, apparently this allows the computer to reset. (or you can disconnect the battery and reconnect it, this will also reset the computer.)there is a problem with the passlock system.it's a huge problem for many people.gm does not acknowledge this problem and is unwilling to correct the defect. This defect should be recalled.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the security light illuminated. The vehicle could be restarted and the failure recurred ten times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and the dealer stated that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

When turning off car doesn't want to restart have to wait 10 min to start has problems with windows and lights took it to chevy dealership said they fixed but still has same problems

"takata recall"i own a 2002 oldsmobile alero and my blinkers only work maybe 2 time a month when i use my turning signals in either direction i just hear a buzzing sound sometimes it is only in one direction and sometimes there is no sound and no blinker at all. Now my gas gauge says empty and i just put $30 of gas in it and once i ran out of gas and and was stuck on the hwy for 4 hours because my gas gauge said full tank b

Just a couple of days after the purchase of the vehicle the brakes were making a bad scrubbing noise, and i had no turn signal at all i noticed a clicking sound coming from the hazard warning light .during the clickingsound the turn signal would work at times and i would smell something like a burning smell. While the car was park and no one around it the lights would come on inside and out by their self and this causes my battery to go dead and ihave to boost it off. I have contacted the car dealer that i purchased it from and they were very rude and hateful and told me it was my problem and that there is nothing they can do about it. Thatthey sold it to me at a good dealand they could not help me.

My turn singals do not work properly. The singnals work only part of the time. When the turn signials do not operate the hazord lights dont work as well. I found out it will cost aprox. $200.00 to fix the problem. They will need to replace the turn signal switch that cost 130.00 and 70.00 for labor. This is a hazord that i will need to have fixed. There are some dangerous intersections where i live. It is also againts the law not to singal which way you are turning. The problem started in march. It had taken it in several times but they could not find the problem until it was more freqqent and they could reproduce it. I finally found out on may 19, 2005 it is the switch.

Blinkers work sometimes and sometimes not.. Most of the time they will work if you press the hazard lights if they work.. And keep playing with the blinkers eventually they turn signal will turn on.. Extremely frustrating!! now i see.. Some have been recalled..my make and model haven't????its the exact same problem!!i have this well documented as i bought this car new.gm had no problems taking my money for their car, now will not stand behind theirproduct, go figure!!! i've had the 10 min reset goingon now with the engine for about 3 yrs again extremely frustrating!!! but this time..my car died on the street in traffic and would not start would crank over but did not re- start and will not! this car has 117000 miles on it and is in perfect shape i have to take care of the things i own!!! how about gm giving me my money back, or at the very least fixing the safety features of this car???? god forbid someone dies and now, seeing all the complaints on line...i know gm has known about this issue for many yrs and will do nothing till some lawyers go after them and each of the people who trusted you get zip or 2.00 each.. This is wrong!!!!!! i hope you have the moral integrity to do the right thing and sooner rather than later!!!!

I was driving down a country road at 45 mph and my car shut off.i pulled over to the side of the road and then the car started up.this happened again, a couple days later, when i was driving down a city street at 30 mph.a couple days after this incident, the car shut down three times as i was driving out of a parking lot.i took the car to the mechanic (6/4/2014), they replaced the cam shaft sensor. ($395.58).a couple days later, the car was in the parking lot and would not start.it cranked over, but wouldn't start.i had it towed to the mechanic (6/13/2024), this time the mechanic replaced the ignition starter switch ($289.62).a month later, the car was sitting in the parking lot and again would not start.it was towed and the mechanic (8/25/2014) and the mechanic replaced the crankshaft position sensor ($194.09.)now i am crossing my fingers that this does not happen again.look at the website car complaints.com and you will see numerous postings from people experiencing the same problems.the first incidents of the car shutting down while i was driving could have resulted in an accident.the recent incidents are inconvenient.gm needs to be held accountable for these issues.it appears from other users that as the car gets older with more miles, these electrical/sensor issues are becoming more prevalent.

When u shut your car off and try to restart won't start and security lights come on then u turn key off and on and wait 10 min to restart .general motors knows about problem. Has been seen by chevy dealer and hasn't been able to fix. This problems happens on regular bases.

I was driving down the street when the car just cut off on me with no warning. I had to force the steering wheel to turn while other cars where trying to keep from hitting me from behind . Finally got the car off of the main street and onto a side street, until i was able to get the car towed . After having the car towed and it not being able to restart a mechanic told me that the anti theft system went out on the car so now i am without a car and no way to get it fixed because as i was told that they were having a problem with this on most older gm models.

The car initially would not start, googled help left in start position for 10 minutes then started. While driving the car shut off mid traffic, thought it was stolen. Taken to gm dealership put in new passcode key, told it was ok. Left dealership car cut off, taken back, said it was fuel injectors, has all of then changed. Car cut off, read on internet that it was a manufacturing error. Dealership would not reimburse money and car continues to not crank at times and cuts off, think it is stolen. This is a safety hazard and this car should not be sold without warning future drivers. Nearly cost me my life.

My ignition key comes out of the ignition while my car is running. Called on 10/30/14 @ 2:51 to schedule an appointment i spoke to [xxx] & was told they can't get me in until 12/1/14 and he also told me they have saturday appointments but they only accept 35 cars and if i was number 36 i would be turned away. This is a vehicle safety issue & i'm having problems with the exact thing your company has recalled my vehicle for and this is not acceptable. Dt:the contact complained about aturn signal problem.the turn signal did not work whenturning it on. When applying the hazard light switch the turn signal cameon. Then, it failed intermittently. There was a recall 03v327000on otheryear models, but this model was not included.dealer said they will not offer help, it should befixed at contact's expense.manufacturer has not been contacted yet.updated 11/16/2005 - the problem is frequent but not constant.the turn signals do not work.when the hazard button is partially pressed the signal starts working.the vehicle has had other electrical problem in the dashboard area but doesn't seem to be related to the turn signal problem.the consumer does not understand why the 2001 models have been recalled but the 2000 has not even though they have the same problem.

Was driving slowly in heavy traffic. Weather: approximately 50 degrees and raining.i have the heat and defrost (including rear window) on.i hear a pop from the back and i think someone has just lightly rear-ended me. I look over my shoulder and the rear passenger seat, at approximately the right-hand shoulder is on fire. I pulled-over, turned-off the car, and tried to dowse the flames to no avail. All i could do was watch it burn until the fire department showed-up about 10 minutes later.fire department agreed likely cause was rear defroster short-circuit.rear seat and rear window destroyed. Water and smoke damage.car is likely totaled due to age (11 years) and miles (124k).

2002 olds alero, present mileage@5/17/20-187,037. Where do i start? okay, the trunk has started to arbitrarily decide to pop open...apparently during rain/thunderstorms...i wonder if this has anything to do with the door locks recently deciding to not lock the passenger side when using switch on dr,side door...and now since the trunk's been popping open for the last 3wks,the key fob won't open the trunk, and the button on interior door to the trunk won't work either, unless the car is running(and not all the time then, either) interior door locks won't respond to the interior switch anymore..what a pain in the a**....i'm keeping a bungee cord over the spoiler to the bumper to keep the trunk closed. Fyi~i keep the car on a trickle charge to the battery24/7 ,since i avoid driving the thing-the passlock bs seems to cause the battery to drain since it has to sit with the key on.also carry a noco charger at all times in case i need a jump..the rust is unbelievable. Rear fenders are all but crumbled off.have to fix dr,side window now~had to fix pass. Side 2yrs ago.regulator afu, probably need new switch, window went off the track, getting good at taping them up discreetly.the aluminum rims cause slow leaks in tires, buy yourself an inflator..massive power steering leak now, brake lines replaced twice..they're under the car exposed to where they get to rust away constantly~i live in north west ohio where it snows&rains alot,so i'm hosed. Once i mastered the passlock 2step i thought that it couldn't get any worse~but in reading all the other complaints& starting to have what may be a bcm issue,i'm not driving this thing if i don't have to! i paid my aaa dues and full coverage insurance.. Oh,yeah-had that"recall" a few yrs ago and all they did was monkey around with the keys, not the ignition! i've been told a 100 times i'll need a new ignition~anybody out there have $700???

Attempt to start car and it won't start. Turning the key to the start position and leaving it on for 10 mins. Apparently this allows the computer to reset. Also you can be driving the car and all of a sudden it shuts down total. This is a extreme dangerous and can get some one seriously hurt or killer. We have had the vehicle fixed but it still continues and we can not afford another expense.vehicles should be recalled.

2002 oldsmobile alero gl customer requesting reimbursement for ignition repair.*mwthe ignition passlock cylinder and module were replaced four times.

On many occasions now my 2002 oldsmobile alero would be working perfectly one day and then the next time i went to start it would not start. The first time it happened i had my uncle who is a mechanic come and look it over, he told me that my security system is locking the car up and to let it sit with the key turned for 10 minutes and it will start again. This worked but now the problem is happening more and more often. So, i came online to see if any other oldsmobile alero owners were experiencing the same problem and i found over 50 reviews on one site alone that this was happening. On top of that many of these car owners were saying that the problem only continues to get worse to the point the car shuts off while driving!!! i have a child, as many of the others owners said they did also, and as a parent that is absolutely terrifying. What if i'm on a highway? others said they spent a lot of money for the problem to be fixed for it to continue to come back or cause more problems. And as if this issue was not dangerousenough, my turn signals also short out and do not blink at times. I do not believe a car could be anymore dangerous. I would like a response and resolution to this issue asap! please!!!

While driving down highway, vehicle key switch randomly malfunctions, causing the vehicle to shut off resulting in loss of control. On multiple occasions i have almost been in a crash because the car shut off.

The contact owned a 2002 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and caused the contact to crash into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and no injuries were sustained. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to start and was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

Car often stalls starting. Easily cuts off when portable phone charger is in place or if radio is on after 5 minutes with discontinuing engine. Cut off at a stop sign recently without warning and would not restart until some time later. Has new battery less than 8 months old. Did the same things with old battery and was thought that it was the problem but continues with the same issues. Seems to have a short in the electrical system somewhere.

When i put my car into drive and let off the brake the car accelerate by itself. I do not have my foot on the gas and the car will continue to speed up until i hit the brake. While braking the car seems like it is still trying to accelerate. You have to push the brake all the way to the floor and hold it to try and maintain a full stop.if i put the car in neutral the rpms shoot way up. If i brake and stop the car and quickly throw it into park and shut it off and restart the car it usually solves the problem but it is definitely not a fix. There is just over 180,000 miles and i have just recently started to notice the problem it has happened a handful of times and i am trying to find the problem and get it fixed. This is very dangerous. The blinkers also periodically stop working and can be fixed by clicking the hazard lights a few times but again not a permanent fix. The cruise control has gone out and the trac control doesn't turn on. This car is becoming a death trap and expensive and dangerous to drive!

According to investigation pe 05-055, the issue with the hazard switch for 2002 olds alero's was going to be updated to a recall (recall 03v327000) but it never was. Since it was never updated to a recall, i never received notification and also gm is refusing to honor replacing the part. Please assist is correcting this issue.

I have 2002 olds alero it won't start. Changed the fuel pump and fuel filter. But my security light keeps flashing so i went online to see what could be the problem. And found many people with the same problem thats causing me which is that the security light keeps flashing and make the whole vehicle not start, think its locked which i don't understand cause it drives fine for few days and then kaput. This should be a recall or something.

I have had the same problem for a while! about 3 months ago i get in my car to go to school and work and guess what the car would not start and i waited and it still did not start. I called the towing company and they took it to the mechanic and it started 10 times and they could not find anything wrong. So for the last 2 months it has drove fine. Well last monday morning it did it again would not start so i had to miss work and call a tow truck and took it to the dealership and the car would turn over but not start. I just paid 430.00 to put a cam sensor in and now it seems to be running. I put a new anti theft lock system in around 2011. I see my car is one that is in a recall and i hope they can get this fixed.

2002 oldsmobile alero. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle recall notice. *tgwthe consumer is seeking reimbursement, for the ignition switch replacement.

These cars are nightmares. I replaced the intake manifold gasket (extremely common issue, well documented online), the oil pressure sensor broke off the engine and leaked all of oil out, replaced the thermostat, learned how to deal with a constantly defective security system (passlock defect causes a no start, extremely common and well documented online), and now the car will crank but not fire (also extremely common, but due to the nature of the problem, the online resources can only provide one of a hundred different places to start attempting to diagnose). A no start should not require a mechanic to throw a full battery of tests at the car. There is no way this car should have been legal to sell, it is a money pit and a hazard to anybody around them. Systems are constantly failing, the car allows water to reach the fuse panels and corrode them, creating the potential for an electrical fire or failure of crucial driving/safety systems. The car has trouble starting if the ambient temperature is at or above 80 degrees. And i have experienced all of this in roughly a years time since i bought the car with relatively low mileage (~70k).

Car does not start at random times.it can take up to 30 mins for the car to reset its self.vehicle will cut off while driving and then proceed not to start back up. This is very dangerous and needs to be fixed.

Car cut off while driving, would not start, security light flashing, took to shop cost 800.00 for new fuel pump, then a month later same deal come to find out it: it's the ignition switch having to due with the security, sometimes the car will not start sometimes it cuts off while driving. They need to recall this its very dangerous not to mention the 800.00 spent for a fuel pump i guess i didn't need.you can reset it.works only temp.leave the key in the on position until the security light goes out then go straight to start, most the time this works.it is very dangerous for the car to shut off at 60 mph on the highway which has happen to us.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero.the contact has been experiencing failures with her vehicle ever since it was purchased.the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings and the braking system was locked twice due to a defective wheel bearing.the ignition switch was replaced twice and recently failed again.she is unable to remove the key from the ignition because it locked in place.the contact will take the vehicle in for repair.the failure mileage was 24,500 and current mileage was 92,273.

My first problem was with the security system .the car would not start. Learned through the internet how to reset system, for my used car not having an ownersmanual. The next problem was my blinkers not working, be it intermittently. I've seen all the posts on these conditionsand i am appalled that these concerns haven't been addressed. Shame on these money grabbers. We pay enough for vehicles ...the manufacturer's must be held accountable. Fix our vehicles.

There is intermittent clicking noise coming from the hazard switch. Gm issued a recall on this matter back in 2004. I went to my local gm dealer and he told me my vin was not covered.

While driving turn signal will work intermittently at times causing me to be on the road/ highway and in traffic without a working turn signal. Gm will not cover repair under the special policy even though my vehicle is one of the cars covered under the special policy due to my car being 1 year over the 10 year cap. I was never aware of this defect until now.

My hazard lights / turn signals work intermittently, sometimes they just flash like crazy. Same as 01's but gm says not 02's.

Turn signals do not always work and car does not always start, need to wait 10 minutes for car to startir reset with key in the on position.

I have been having this problem for the past 7 months.i have changed out the battery, that didn't solve the problem.i have taken it countless time to the dealership, and they couldn't find out the problem.i have called the plant where the car came from and they referred me to a car service that specializes in oldsmobiles.they thought it was the fuel pump, and they fixed it.they also said that it could be something electrical, however they won't know until the car tears all the way up.this is what is wrong with my car.it sounds like it wants to start, however, it takes three tries before the car finally starts.sometimes, it sounds like the car will not even start.i have also had occassions where the car has cut off as i am pulling off from a stop sign or pulling out of a parking spot.the car is only 2 years old and only have 49,900 miles on it.it no one knows what is wrong with the car or the severity of it, how do i know whether the car will breakdown to a point where it will cause a fatal accident.i believe the car needs to be recalled.

Two years ago, my security light came on in my car and my car wouldn't start. Took it to the gm dealer and they said it was the computer module on my security system that needed to be replaced which cost more than $700. Last friday, 11/14/2008, my car wouldn't start again and the security light came on again. I took it to the same gm dealer again and now they are saying the bcm (body control module) needs to be replaced? and now, again, this will cost another $700 to fix, if that is all that is wrong with my car. I have been stranded before when the computer module went out. I was lucky this time since i had my car at home when this bcm went out. The bcm only has a year warranty.

Car would not start in parking lot of a business on thursday morning.after about an hour it finally started so drove to cadillac dealership.was told it's my key and to go home and use my other key.afraid to be stranded, so did not go anywhere until sunday. Sunday morning went to and from church fine using the second key, so thought everything was okay.in afternoon, wanted to head out of town, so went to get gas.after filling my car, it would not start again. Tried using both keys, neither would work.waited for 45-60 minutes, periodically trying, with no luck.walked home since live nearby.several hours later, walked to gas station to try my car again.this time it started, so drove home.not sure what to do at this point.looked up gmc website and it's saying my car is not on the "recall" list, yet i'm having this problem like everyone else. Also, approximately two months ago, was driving in chicago.pulled off the freeway to let my dog go to the bathroom and suddenly found my remote keys would not work and i could not get into my car!!!eventually, i was able to get into the passenger side.

Hazard and turn signals intermittently fail; same as the 2001...there was a recall for this issued on the 2001, but not the 2002?i lose my turn signals approximately 2-3 times per 10 mile trip.i have not been involved in an accident due to this malfunction...yet.no repairs seem to fix the problem.the incident date is the last time this problem occurred (i haven't driven the car for a few days), but it has actually been going on for over 2 years.apparently this is a common problem with the alero's reguardless of the model year.the vehicle also won't start when it rains, and shuts down while driving.the trunk opens by itself, and the door locks don't always work.sometimes the stereo won't turn on, and most recently the driver's door window won't open.i replaced the wheel house assembly 3 times in two years.this car is an electrical nightmare!frequently it won't start because it thinks i'm trying to steal it.i also put air in all my tires at least once a week because they won't hold air...apparently there is a problem with the wheels.i have to manually check the tires because the warning light for low tire pressure is also an electrical malfunction.

I made a long vacation trip in oct. Of 2002 at which time my 2002 oldsmobile alero turned over 36,000 miles.by the time i arrived home, it had turned 37,000.i didn't drive the car for a few days upon my return.when i opened the door to drive it next, i saw that the dash and three of the door pads had come unglued and buckled really badly.i took it back to dan cummins in paris, ky as soon as i discovered that the interior was falling apart.the service manager refused to even look at the car since it had gone over the 36,000 mile warranty during my vacation before i returned home.he suggested i call gm and complain to them about it.i did call them and they took my complaint.they gave me an complaint number, but have since refused to answer their phone when i call, or to call me back after i leave them a voice mail on their machine.i have created a website at http://www.alero.info in order for interested persons to be able to view the pictures of the poor factory workmanship and materials used to build my 2002 alero.the pictures say it all as to what my complaint is about with the dash and door pads coming unglued and buckling.at 37,500 miles while it is still only two years old, it has developed an electrical problem that could potentially dangerous as something is causing the fuse to the tail and interior lights to blow while driving it at night.*nlm

My passlock theft deterrent system on my 2002 alero has been defective sincethe first year i had it. I have to wait ten minutes with key in on position before it will start. This is a big concern for me, and as i observed online, for many others. I had it towed and looked at several times but they could never figure out what it was and until i get a 100% accurate diagnosis on something, i don't pay out money for assumptions. I found out on my own and by reading the owners manual, what the exact problem was. I realize i must die or be seriously injured for any thing to be done. Sad to say that is how things work in this dwindling economy. I have the fear that stalkers i have had in the past may catch up with me at a time when my car won't start. Should i tell them "hey wait ten minutes before you can attack me then i can get away."please prove me wrong and do something about it. It needs to be recalled. If you would like you can google to see the many other complaints.

Takata recall- i bought this car last year and have had trouble with the ignition. When i try to turn the key i feel the ignition move. I also have a hard the keeping it started. When i'm driving with my seat belt on my no seat belt light flashes on and off as if it wasn't on.

Trying to get local gm dealer to respond to recall notice and say that it will be december before they can respond.

The car turns off while i am driving resulting in loss of all electrical and power components. No power brakes or steering. It does this all the time and i've taken it in and they can not find the problem.

On may 26th, 2005 i started my 2002 oldsmobile alero and turned on my rear defroster.after about 3 minutes of driving down the road there was an "explosion" in the rear of my car.the rear defroster heating mechanism that hooks up to the rear window exploded and caught fire to the entire rear of my car.the vehicle was not able to be repaired due to the cost, my insurance company totaled my car.my car has never been in an accident and no major work has ever been performed.gm will not get involved due to the fact that luckily no one was injured.

I started having problems in feb. Of this year(2005).the car would not start. Towed it to a dealer and they replaced the ignition cylinder.3 days later was having the same problem.took it back to the dealer and they then replaced the housing.begining of june had the same problem occure agian.towed it back to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong with it. Of course it started at the dealer.2 weeks later and it still will not start agian.the security light was comming on before it stoped running.this is a problem that many people are having and it needs to be fixed.if you go to www.automotivehelper.comand go under alero, you will find lots of complaints.

Vehicle stalled while driving approximately 25 mph and would not restart.the dealer replaced the battery.

Passlock theft deterrent system keeps disabling vehicle.it is currently in the shop for the 4th time for this problem.the security light comes on, then the vehicle eventually will not start.

When the vehicle is worked on by a mechanic, such as replacement of the fuel filter, it disrupts some component in the car and makes the passlock security system think that the car is being stolen.this shuts the car down and doesn't allow it to be started again.this could be deadly if traveling at high speeds or in heavy traffic.

The security light began coming on but would go off after i restarted the car. I thought it was an electrical problem.however, in october 2009, i became stranded and had to be towed which cost $150.the dealership informed me it was part of my security system and i replaced that for about $400.i do have the invoice for exact figures.then in march of 2011, the security light came on again.not wanting to become stranded again, i brought my car to the dealership the very next day and was informed that another part of the pass lock system needed replacing.this was $450.they also informed me that there is a third part to this system.it is only a matter of time that this part fails.

While driving down the road, the car shut off, i was unable to get the car restarted and was almost rear ended by another vehicle.i was told that the passlock engaged while the car was in operation thereby telling the computer that the car had been "stolen" and to shut off the fuel pump.i have since learned that this "passlock" failure in gm vehicles is a very common complaint and only the "dealership" is able to repair it.the approx cost is $900.00 in which the dealership will replace the ignition and bcm module with another defective part.other individuals with the same problem have broken down at night in unsafe locations, on the highway, etc and although general motors has received several complaint's they have failed to issue a recall.

On 9/26/2007 my 2002 olds alero refused to start, i finally had to leave at at my job, it started the next day, i called the dealer (i had purchased it from drivetime) in nov 2006, they stated that i had to bring it to their approved mechanic, i took it there, their mechanic stated it was the fuel pump and it would cost 755.00. That included the drivers window which fell into the door for the second time, i called drivetime who then put me on a repair assistance program, i drove the car home, that same day the car would not start again, it is now january 2008 and i still do not have a working vehicle and am refusing to pay for it. The mechanic called me back and said that it is the computer and he cannot fix iti now have to have it towed to the nearest dealer who may or may not fix it free of charge. I think its a disgrace, that a company can make such a piece of junk have all these complaints on it and nothing is done. I for one am not going to pay one more cent, the dealer could keep the car, and do with it whatever he wants, i realize this is a reposession but i am not a rich person and it is obvious that problems will only get worse with this vehicle, i think there should be a class action suit against gm, olds, drivetime for selling the lemon knowing all the problems these vehicles have.

- the contact ownsa 2002 oldsmobile alero gl.the contact stated that the therewas aa sensor cylinder failurein the ignition that was effected by the theft system on the vehicle.the contact stated that the dealer said that the vehicle's computer believed itas being stolen, and kills the engine, thishappened on 4 different occasions.

The passlock 1 anti-theft systemfails on my vehicle. Causes the fuel system to shut down and vehicle to either not start or shut down. It has done this while sitting in my garage, at stop signs, lights and as i was turning with in front of on coming traffic (lucky i was not hit). This 1st occurred in 2007. At that time, it happened daily until my car finally would not start and i had to have it towed from my garage to a service center.the fault codes showed it was this system.they replaced the passlock cylinder and reprogrammed my keys.i was told at the time, it may not be a permanant fix as there is a high rate of repeat problems.this was the 2nd time i had the car at the shop, i had the issue a month earlier, but due to my battery being run down trying to start my car, it was assumed to be a battery issue.so after replacing the battery it did run for a month before starting this all over again.my car is now at the shop with the most likely the same trouble.it was over $600 the first two times to fix my car, and i feel can be a real safety issue given the fact i was almost hit, not just stranded.i was also told by a g.m rep. They had never heard of this issue, or the dealers the rep. Called.there are hundreds of internet post for this problem.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact was driving 30 mph when the security warning light illuminated. The contact then pulled over and shut off the vehicle. He was not able to restart the vehicle and it was towed to a local repair facility. The mechanic then advised that the anti-theft system malfunctioned and a keyless starter would need to be installed to correct the failure. The dealer was not contacted and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 102,000 and the current mileage was 108,000.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero purchased in 2003. She stated that a year after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The security warning light illuminated on the instrumentpanel. She adhered to the instructions given in the owner's manual to override the system failure; however, the process was too lengthy to attempt each time she has to start the vehicle. No repairs were made to the vehicle to date to correct the failure. The dealer advised her not to invest in correcting the failure sinceit was a defect in the design of the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were under 118,000.

Of course it started at the dealer.2 weeks later and it still will not start agian.the security light was comming on before it stoped running.this is a problem that many people are having and it needs to be fixed.if you go to www.automotivehelper.comand go under alero, you will find lots of complaints.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. While merging to the side of the road, the engine suddenly restarted without the key being turned in the ignition. After driving approximately one mile, the failure recurred. The vehicle restarted on its own. The dealer stated that the ignition switch was faulty. The switch was replaced, but the failure persisted. The ignition switch was replaced a second time and the failure was remedied. The failure mileage was 67,000.

The security light started coming on in my car in 2004.my car is a 2002.i brought my car to a gm dealership and they said that they couldn't find anything wrong, so i did not pay attention to the light until one day my car refused to start.as i had just replaced the battery and the lights/radio worked, my husband asked around and a few people who have owned oldsmobile vehicles stated that if you leave the car in the "on" position for 10-12 minutes that it will reset the security light and the car will start.it worked and i brought my car to a second gm dealership and they quoted a diagnostic run to determine what is causing my car not to start, but they too did not know what was causing it.the most recent occurrence was in october 2006, but instead of resetting for a few months, like before, the car refused to start the very next time i tried to start it.i did research online and found that there are several models (1999-2002, at least) that have the same problem.i contacted gm to notify them of this occurrence and the fact that it was not only occurring to my car.i have not heard back... Yet?i no longer have confidence that my car is reliable.for the time being, i use the method, but now that i am pregnant and winter is fast approaching (i live in minnesota), i no longer find this solution acceptable.i do not want to jeopardize my child's life by having to remain in negative degree weather for ten minutes in order for the car to "reset itself," so i am currently researching alternative cars to purchase.

Consumertook vehicle todealer forregular maintenance and dealerdetermined that vehicle needed the following replacements: a new ignition lock cylinder, intake manifold, multi function switch, and an engine oil flush. Consumer stated that when she putkey in the ignition it would not turn, but did not know that vehicle would need a new switch. Also, there was ticking noise when she tried to start the vehicle.

Timing chain broke at 60k miles. Destroyed valves. Also ignition switch broke at 45k miles.

Car shut off and lost power to steering and braking due to ignition failure. Car would randomly shut off while driving.issue was faulty ignition and was replaced by local mechanic.

- the contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero with a current and failure mileage of 181,000 miles.while driving at 35 mphbegan decelerating and the vehicle lost power with no warning in the middle of the road.the weather was sunny and 75 degrees.she was able to restart the vehicle after 30 minutes.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed her thatthevehicle was part of recall 07e021000 for fuel system, other: storage: tank assembly: pressure relief devices.the recalled failure couldresult in a fire, but the contact had not experienced the recall failure to date.she spoke with delphi, gm and oldsmobile dealers, and none of the dealerswere willing to complete the recall work free of charge.the consumer stated the dealership is asking for additional monies besides the $417.21 that was already paid.the consumer stated the vehicle is still in the dealerships possession and she wants the vehicle returned with the problem fixed. The consumer stated that on 06/07/07 the dealership informed her to pick up the vehicle that it was ready when consumer came to pick up vehicle the manager informed her he does not feel safe returning the car to her and the dealership is requesting an additional $262.00 for an ignition switch. The security warning light was coming on intermittently and would stay on for 1-4 minutes then go off.this started in march 2006.then one day the car would not start.called aaa - mechanic fixed by leaving key turned on for about 10 minutes - then car started.this "problem" of not starting started occurring more frequently and so had a mechanic check into it.he immediately told me, once i presented the problem the car was having, that the ignition switch in these cars were notorious for going bad and needed to be replaced.so, i had it replaced.now, it's july 2006 and the security warning light is coming on again.so - now what?!

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero.the contact attempted to start the vehicle, but was unsuccessful.it took him approximately 40 minutes to start the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they repaired the fuel pump.immediately after the repair was made, the failure continued.he took the vehicle back to the dealer and they stated that the failure was due to the ignition switch of the electrical system.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact has only owned the vehicle for seven weeks.the failure and current mileages were 74,000.

For a couple of days i've had trouble turning the key to turn on the vehicle. Two days ago i put the key in the ignition and it wouldn't budge. I cannot get the key to turn the slightest bit. I bought a new ignition switch in hopes that this will solve the problem.

Rear defroster circuit failure. Fuse ok, relay ok, window imprint ok. Rear electrical defrost and antenna module fails. Rear visibility in cold climate completely blocked when rear. Window frosted.many customers on the internet are complaining of the same problem and some have reported that the connector to the electrical module inside the rear-column on the passenger side is overheating and melting, breaking the electrical contact.

Consumer states thatvehicle was shut offand it caught on fire. Dealer notified.

Dt: consumer states that if the fuse is in the vehicle the windshield wipers constantly run.when he first bought the vehicledealer claimed he fix it.the signals on the vehicle seem to be going too fast, and it smells like the wires are burning.

When my 2002 alero turned 37,500 the fuse to the tail and dash lights blew leaving me driving after dark with no tail and dash lights.so far the mechanics have not been able to trace down the short in the electrical system in order to fix the problem.they keep putting in new fuses and they just keep blowing.they have ordered a switch, and it is to go back into the shop again to have the switch replaced again, and to try once more to track down the electrical short that is causing the fuse to blow that takes out the tail and dash lights.i can't drive this 2002 alero after dark even if i have just put in a new fuse because it will just blow again.if it doesn't blow while i am driving it, it will just be blown the next time i start it.it makes driving this 2002 alero very unsafe to drive, especially after dark.

Leather on front dashboard and back passenger door is detaching from surface and bubbling. It is rather severe on the front dash.cigarette lighter (one near front passenger foot) was poorly installed. It pops out all of the time.front end makes loud scratching noise when moving slowly or breaking and turning.drivers side window stopped working today.it went out without warning.trunk smells like there has been a problem with water leaks.i've found interior trunk to be damp on occasion.occasional water leaks on front passenger side (at feet).appears to be condensation of some sort.back cup holder pops out of place.because of the defect, drink spills resulted in stained carpeting.

When u shut your car off and try to restart won't start and security lights come on then u turn key off and on and wait 10 min to restart .general motors knows about problem. Has been seen by chevy dealer and hasn't been able to fix. This problems happens on regular bases.

It just started after the security got lock and had to be over drive.when you drive you can feel the car idle bad when you have to stop for a light or stop sign or if you have to stop to turn andyou get below 1 mga turns off. Yesterday it did this and turn off and all it would do isjust turns but doesn't start. In the middle of the road. It sounds to me like it's not get fuel or air where it needs to be. You can drive the speed limit and watch the mga, i think, 1,2,3, ildel down a little. Started end of sept or no troubler

When turning off car doesn't want to restart have to wait 10 min to start has problems with windows and lights took it to chevy dealership said they fixed but still has same problems

The car turns off while i am driving resulting in loss of all electrical and power components. No power brakes or steering. It does this all the time and i've taken it in and they can not find the problem.

Thanks.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. While exiting aparking lot, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and it was able to drive normally; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 203,000.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 15 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. Also, smoke started to emit from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed and was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 147.

It just started after the security got lock and had to be over drive.when you drive you can feel the car idle bad when you have to stop for a light or stop sign or if you have to stop to turn andyou get below 1 mga turns off. While driving down highway, vehicle key switch randomly malfunctions, causing the vehicle to shut off resulting in loss of control. On multiple occasions i have almost been in a crash because the car shut off.

The lower intake manifold gasket needs to be replaced in my car 2002 alero with 67,500 miles, come to find out gm knows about this and it is a common replacement, design flaw with gm vehicles even the repair shops have knowledge about this. Is there a r-emarket rebate for this problem.it will vcost me about 700 to fix the problem.

Consumertook vehicle todealer forregular maintenance and dealerdetermined that vehicle needed the following replacements: a new ignition lock cylinder, intake manifold, multi function switch, and an engine oil flush. I've only had my car since nov 07 for the past 4mos my trac off, trac low, service engine, and change oil lights come on and stays on i've took car to mechanic and they cant seem to find anything wrong but when i m driving my car act like it going to cut off or it'll like slow down a lil bit and thencatch speed. This happens on the highway its very scary.

The event is unexpected, there is nothing definitive that leads up to the failure.the failure is that the engine shuts down while driving.it has happened 4 times in the last nine months.once it was able tobe restarted after just a few minutes; another time i had to wait about 45 minutes to restart it then it shut down again after driving 12 miles down the road.each time it was taken to a garage and placed on the diagnostic, it doesn't show a problem exists, therefore, to date, no repairs have been made since no one knows what the problem is .there hasn't been any injury at this time due to this problem, but if this continues a serious occurrence is inevitable; i.e. Losing power while driving down the highway at 65mph.

My car had something go wrong with the intake gaskets to where the plastic melted to the engine, the car had to be taken in for several days and the engine had to be taken out and cleaned and all of the intake gaskets were replaced.the car still does not run properly, when attempting to pick up speed or climb a hill the car does not shift and at times looses speed.this continues to this day, the dealer states nothing is wrong.the gas needle will read full and then the car will run out of gas this has happened on the middle of the highway leaving me stranded and several times around town.the dealer stated that they replaced the gas sensors.the car still does not run properly with less than half a tank of gas.the defroster, air conditioner and heat still after several trips in do not heat up or cool down the car.one day i had started the car half an hour before leaving and on the way to work the windshield froze up, the defrost had been and still was on high.

Dt: without warning caller hears a noise ,and at the same time, the bell sounds , and the dash lights come on. The lights that come on are the anti lock brake lights.the track off light, and the service engine light.for only a few seconds the brakes will not work. Has had wheel bearings replaced in the front, and is about to get it done again.

- the contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero.on 4/6/07, while driving 55 mph ,the contact heard a ticking sound, and smelled gasoline inside the vehicle,so she turned the ignition off.the vehicle was towed to fox chevrolet in laurel, md.the dealer stated that the failure was due to coolant being mixed with oil ,causing a loss of compression in all cylinders. The engine needed to be replaced at cost of $2,600.the warranty expired at 60,000 miles.there were no warning indicator lights on the dashboard.the vehicle was at the repair shop. I was on my way to work on 3/13/11 driving my 2002 oldsmobile alero, and my car started filling up with black smoke. I immediately pulled over and got out of my car, i suddenly saw flames inside of my vehicle . I called the fire department and by the time they put out the fire my car was totaled.

While driving 55 mph vehicle stalled. This caused the driver to drift to the side off the road.consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership, and mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.

Timing chain broke at 60k miles. Destroyed valves. Also ignition switch broke at 45k miles.

Car will not start .... Sometimes after it has been driven it will not start back sometimes it will take around 30mins to start back other times longer, the length of time it has been driven when it does this varies sometimes its very short distance others it is a little longer. The car turns over but will not start. It does not do this all the time but you never know when it will do this. We have had the fuel pump changed recently and the battery is fine.

For the past few months i have been noticing my car temperature hot when it is suppose to be cold and vice versa.i checked the anti-freeze and placed more in the car.in the past month i notice that the car started to overheat and i checked the antifreeze once again.i then learned that my manifold intake needed to be replaced and it is very common for it to have to be replaced because it is plastic.i paid over $700.00 to get it replaced and it is a common fact that it is replaced often due to the manufacturers choice to use plastic for the part.

Friday, 7/15/05, i took my 2002 olds alero to jeff schmidt in fairborn, oh for service of the passenger side power window not working.while at the dealership, i was informed that my intake manifold was leaking and must be replaced.this was covered under warranty as well as the window.immediately after leaving the lot, the car smelled like something was burning.i park in the garage at home and did not notice any spills on the floor and assumed it was just overflow where the service tech did the repairs.thursday, 7/21/05, i parked the car in the garage and the smell was really bad.i popped the hood and found a puddle of coolant inside the car down on the frame (i think that's what it is called).i also noticed inside the car the dash at the windshield was ruffled/wrinkled.i thought maybe i had had a fire or something really got hot.i took the car to the same dealership this morning and learned that i had two broken hoses at the intake manifold where the hoses were reattached after the initial repair.i had to pay to have these repaired because it was not covered under warranty.funny i didn't have any problems with this until they told me i had a problem last week.i was also told that my warranty, i have 6 yrs. 60,000 miles, did not cover the dash.it was considered cosmetic.well, needless to say, i can't believe this.i've worked for gm/delphi for 28 years, have had 7 vehicles in this time period, new ones, and have never had a dash to come apart.also, i've never heard of a intake manifold going bad on a car with only 38,000 miles.gm should be responsible for fixing the dash where the leather has come apart from the frame.

Existence of engine oil appearing in radiator system coolant.

My service engine light, abs light and trac light stay on at all times. I have had it serviced with the result being "my gas cap was not tight." i feel there is more to this than they say due to knowing 3 other alero owners with the same problems.

Car was being driven when a loud explosion came from the engine compartment.the car then immediately cut off and had to be towed in for service.upon inspection, it was found that the timing chain had broke and that there was other internal valve and engine component damage.the engine is a 2.2l gm motor that was recalled for saturns, and other vehicles, but not the one we own which is an oldsmobile alero.

Water leak from intake gasket. *la

When going up the slightest incline at 70 mph rpms revved, andengine started missing, felt like it was going to stall.

I have a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The cars security device is faulty causing the car to not start and sometimes causing the engine to stop running even at over 40 miles per hour. I have read many complaints about this over the internet, it seems to be a common occurrence with gm cars around this year. Biggest problem is that common mechanics are unable to find anything wrong with the car you are forced to go to the costly dealership and in a lot of cases they to are not able to fix it.

Timing chain broke on 2002 oldsmobile alero with 65,000 miles in feb. 2006.experienced a ticking noise day before and was driving at about 55 mph when chain broke and lost power.auto repair service indicated it will cost at least $1500 to replace chain and additional parts.also indicated oil pan would have to be removed as fragments were detected inside.

Leak of coolant on ground - intake and head gaskets leaking .

- the contact ownsa 2002 oldsmobile alero.while driving at40 mph on a very nice day the timing chain sheared off which caused the engine to lose power.the timing chain failure warped all of the rods and heads.the failure mileage was 84,000, and the current mileage was 87,363.

(1) no warning -just at dealership 3 weeks before.(2) timing chain broke while on interstate causing catastrophic engine failure & had to steer car off to side of road with no power & high traffic load.have read now of numerous failures of oldsmobile aleros with 2.2 engine due to a defective timing chain tensioner that was apparently redesigned in 2005 to address this problem.no recalls on this defect.(3) i am having engine replaced as it is destroyed from the 70mph failure.engine is still available if needed for investigation if you let me know real soon.

2002 oldmobile alero has failing intake manifold gasket which allows coolant to leak into engine. Estimates to repair are over $800 and after researching the fact that tens of thousands of others have the same problems with various gm vehicles manufactured from 1995-2003 i'm at a loss as to why this hasn't been taken care of. Gm released bulletin 03-06-01-010 in which it suggests replacement of a "new design intake manifold gasket" which was changed to "improve the sealing qualities of the gasket". If there was no problem with the original there's no need for a replacement. Gm is unwilling to repair this yet it affects 3.1 and 3.4l v6 engines of some 14 different gm models not to mention a similar affliction with the 3.8l.

The turn signals on my vehicle quit working.i contacted gm and they advised me to take to dealer.dealer found a defective hazard switch.my vehicle is a 2002 alero, there have been recalls for the same problem on earlier models but not mine, however it is the same defect.

Turn signals do not always work and car does not always start, need to wait 10 minutes for car to startir reset with key in the on position.

2002 alero window regulator is brittle and disintegrating causing window to fall down.the cd player was inoperative, the rear view mirror was loose and the low tire pressure monitor message came on.

Signal lights and hazard lights do not work all the time on my 2002 alero. My daughter drives this car regularly and i am afraid that this issue will cause her to be in an accident. We cannot seem to get anyone to correct this issue.

Turn signals / hazard lights fail to work on occasion. Problem started occurring this summer about 2-3 weeks after having some brake work performed. Problem is thought by me to be a separate issue with a failure of a solenoid. There have been no consequences as a result of the failure. I am able to get the light working again, by either repeated quick pushes of the hazard lights or a quick pound just left of the hazard switch. I am planning on bringing this issue up at the next scheduled oil change in a couple of weeks unless the lights fail altogether.

Driving down road all lights quit working nothing on dash works.

Turn signal and hazard lights failure.it started with the turn signals, they would work sometimes and then eventually cut out completely. Hazards worked for a short time after turn signals went out, then both cut out completely.flasher was replaced and fuses were tested and were not the problem.

My turn signals and hazards don't work at times.they go out randomly while i'm driving and it is very dangerous.i tried to turn the hazards on to get them to work but the hazards outmost of the time also.it has been happening at least 3-4 times a week and makes me nervous to drive for fear of an accident or ticket.i have contacted gm dealers and they said there is no recall for the 2002 model but i have read there are recalls for the 2000 and 2001 models.i have heard of numerous complaints for the 2002 models and would hope something will be done about it.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the hazard lights and the turn signals would fail sporadically. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.

Turn signals and flashers don't work.sometimes they work fine, other times do not.happens more and more.security light flashes, when flashing car will not start.

2002 oldsmobile alero the turn signals and hazard lights work sometimes and sometimes they don't this is a real problem and i have almost been hit several times is there a recall on this.

When u shut your car off and try to restart won't start and security lights come on then u turn key off and on and wait 10 min to restart .general motors knows about problem. Has been seen by chevy dealer and hasn't been able to fix. This problems happens on regular bases.

My signal lights on my 2002 olds alero or dysfucntional!! sometimes they work sometimes they don't and i really fear for my safety, when my signal lights or not working. I was almost rear ended several time do to faulty signal lights.

My hazard lights / turn signals work intermittently, sometimes they just flash like crazy. Same as 01's but gm says not 02's.

2002 oldsmobile alero, turn signals are not working properly, sometimes they just quit working.is there a recall for this problem as i see there many complaints with the flasher unit or hazard component. When i called the dealer i was told i could bring in the car and it would cost me $100.00 to see what the problem is plus be charged to fix the problem or i could take it somewhere else. There is a defective part that needs to be replaced as this is a safety issue and the consumer should not be charged to have the problem corrected.

I have a 2002 oldsmobile alero that was not included in the hazard switch recall notice (applies to 1999 and 2001 vehicles and other gm cars) since spring of 2009 my car has been exhibiting the same problems as discussed in the recall. It has been getting worse since then. I feel that some of the bad switches made it into other years or the car was still built with 2001 parts. I purchased it from an olds dealer in summer of 2002. It was a gm program used car on the road since january 2002.

The turn signal wont stop ticking noise even if the turn signal was off and it cause smoke around the steering wheel.

There was no accident, but there might be due to the fact that my wife's 2002 oldsmobile alero hazard switch is faulty causing intermittent turning signal failure, the same problem with previous models of the alero. I called oldsmobile and they will not replace the hazard switch under recall which apparently they told me my vin isn't included, even though it's the same exact issue and problem. I thought i would notify you of the problem that seems was not corrected when the recalls were issued for previous years. The recall should cover any alero that experiences this issue, not just certain vin numbers.

There is intermittent clicking noise coming from the hazard switch. Gm issued a recall on this matter back in 2004. I went to my local gm dealer and he told me my vin was not covered.

When turning off car doesn't want to restart have to wait 10 min to start has problems with windows and lights took it to chevy dealership said they fixed but still has same problems

Dt: the contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The hazard and turn signal flashers work intermittently and sometimes are inoperative. The contactsawother complaints on the nhtsa website for this problem.the consumer contacted gm and they said they wereunwilling to help with the repair because this vehiclewas not includedin nhtsarecall 03v327000 due to vin.the contact has been having this problem withlights for twelve months. The contact moved from a warm weather climateto a four season climate, and that was when he began to have this problem. Itwent away up until the weather began to change.

The turn signals and hazard lights will periodically fail, likely from a ground-out issue with the flasher relay. I have to struggle with the plastic cover part around the hazard switch and relay to rectify this problem. It would appear that vibration and bumps cause this problem to occur. There are times when driving down the freeway that i need to change lanes and my turn signals stop working and it makes me hesitant to change lanes. In addition, it makes me worry about making turns in the city. I could be issued a ticket over a problem that occurs randomly and would not be resolved by replacing the part.

I just purchased a 2002 oldsmobile alero and everything worked fine i got it home and the blinkers started to only work sometimes i haven't even got to drive it because i'm afraid to get pulled over. I immediately got online and found that it could be the hazard switch which appears to have been recalled if i'm correct. It appears that because i'm over 150,000 miles i'm not covered but the problem didn't occur before that limit. I spoke the previous owner and they said it had just recently and was not like this when she purchased it at just over 150,000 miles and to just push the hazard light button a few times and it kicks in but that is not a permanent fix and if there was a recall and the problem doesn't occur until after the allotted miles i don't see what good it is.

Dt: the contact stated that the turn signals as well as the hazard warning lights worked intermittently.the vehicle is currently at a dealership for repairs.the dealer offered no diagnosis to the problem.there is a nhtsa recall03v327000 on earlier model years. Yet his vehicleexperienced the same problem as indicated in the recall, but was not included in the recall.

I have a 2002 oldsmobile alero gl sedan and the following has just started to happen within the last couple of weeks:turn signal malfunction that leads to flickering or total failure of the turn signal lights and the indicator on the instrument panel - this is exactly what prompted a 2003 recall for oldsmobile alero;model years 2000-2001.

Hazard switch - turn signals not working / intermittent.

2002 oldsmobile alero.at 57,000 miles turn signals are occasionally inoperative.fuses were changed and they still fail on occasion.identical problems resulted in the recalls of the 2000 and 2001 olds aleros.upon reviewing internet web sites i discovered that there are many other alero owners whom are having the same problem.a temporary solution until the hazard switch can be replaced is to slap the dashboard near the hazard switch to make it operable.the inability to alert other drivers of the intent to change lanes, or make turns is a safety issue.

Dt:2002 oldsmobile alero.the consumer stated the turn signals failed.the vehicle has not been to the dealership.the consumerstated hehad the same problem with another vehicle, and it was the hazard switchwhich failed.this problem has been occurring for approximately 6 months.the consumer has done nothing to correct the problem .oldsmobile was contacted, and they stated there was no recall for that model year.

Basically i own a oldsmobile 2000 intrigue and an 2002 alero.my wifes intrique hazard switch caused the turn signals to fail ramdomly. I took it in during warranty and they could not "reproduce" the failure. After warranty we took the car to the dealership for a state inspection and they told us that the hazard switch is defective and needs to be replaced to pass inspection.so i paid the $18 since this is a critical safety issue.now my 2002 alero is doing exactly the same thing. When i go to use my turn signals they dont work but if i push on the hazard switch in/out or wiggle it they start working.i believe gm had a recall on the hazard switch back around 1998?? i believe this is a serious safty issue. Obcviously driving down the road and preparing to initiate a turn and your signals dont work can easily cause a collision.i am in my mid 40's and have had many cars, so have my parents from the 1960's and never have i seen a hazard switch fail. I have seen bulbs fail that will cause the turn signals to not flash but i cannot believe that gm had a recall in the late 1990's and i have two different cars have the exact same failure.i am going to go and by another switch but because it involves a critical saftey feature i felt compelled to let you know what i have seen.i believe you can check the failure rate by requiring gm to produce their sales database on sales of hazard switches from the 1990's to 2005 since this item is not usually reproduced or sold by 3rd parties.

Turn signals didn't always work. I would have to hit the hazard switch and then the signals would work. Took to dealer and had to have a new hazard switch installed.

For no apparent reason, the turn signals stopped working while i was driving my 2002 oldsmobile alero. The problem turned out to be a defective hazard light switch. Gm has issued a recall for this problem on 2000 and 2001 models, but the dealer refused to cover the same problem on my 2002.

Recall 03v327000 concerning hazard warning switch. Turn signals and the hazard lamps worked intermittently or became inoperative. Consumer saw this recall on nhtsa website.consumer contacted the dealer and the manufacturer, and both confirmed that this vehicle was not covered under the recall due to vin.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle warning lights failed.there is a nhtsa recall, # 03v327000, regarding the hazard flashing warning light switch.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.the dealership replaced the hazard flashing warning light switch.

2002 oldsmobile alero has problems with the turn signal/hazard module not working properly at times. *njthe consumer stated the signal lights were intermittent and a times were completely inoperable. The consumer learned of a recall, however she was informed that there was no recall that her vehicle identification number qualified for. Recall # 03v327000. Updated 03/01/10

Dt*: the consumer stated the hazard warning lights were not working properly. There is a nhtsa recall, # 03v327000, regarding the hazard warning lights switch. The consumer experienced the same problem as stated in the recall, however the consumers model year was not included. Updated 02/21/06.

The turn signal / hazard switch went out on my 2002 oldsmobile alero.this caused the turn signals not to operate and nearly caused me to be rear ended on a highly traveled road with a child in the car.the failure was corrected by having the part replaced.the old part is no longer available due to shop throwing it out.

I have a 2002 olds alero gls. The 2001 olds alero has this recall: hazard warning switches that may experience solder joint cracking caused by rapid temperature transitions and the soldering process. If solder joint cracking occurs and results in an open circuit, the turn signals/hazard lamps become intermittent or inoperative. My car has the exact same problem but is not included in the recall. Gm was the wost help ever. They hung up on me. In the past two weeks they have quit workingmore times than i can reamber.i have also have a problem with my gage cluster. About 2-3 times a month it dosent opperate. No check engine lights ect or spedo rpm ect work there just "dead" until u restart the car. The olds bravada has a recall for it. What i dont understan is how an 01 alero have recalls and a 03 have recalls but not an 02. I was on the interstate when my turn signals quit.i dont know how long they were out before ithey werent working. I did have a frind of mine look at the car who is a certified gm tech and said it was a losse wire up in the dash.

The turn signals on my alero and hazard flashers quit working, and then restart.sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

Turn signals work intermittently. If i push the emergency flasher in and out, then the turn signals work normally. This has been going on intermittently since about june 04. I took it to the dealer but they couldn't find anything wrong. I am taking it back to the dealer 29 december 2004. It has been looked at (2) times previously.

Turn signals intermittently work.

In the past two weeks my turn signals quit working without any warning and just as mysteriously start working again. I have not taken it to a dealer as it has only occurred twice. I seen a report about this problem on the news.

I'm not for sure if your interested in this type of complaint, but i received a letter from oldsmobile pertaining to my 2002 olds. Alero that there was a possible problem with the turning signal and/or hazards. This letter came from their recall center but it stated in the letter it wasn't a recall.well a couple of months previously my turning signal would stop working while i was driving then it would work, stop working, work but never for too long of time.sometimes it would be fine for weeks then it would start up again. Well, after i received this letter i was for sure that this letter probably pertained to my problem and made an appointment with the olds. Dealer in vincennes, in.when i went to pick it up, they said the turn signal never quit working, which i replied its going to be a one in a million chance that it will do it for you.i would have to leave my car there for a month for it to occur for them to catch it, i just thought this problem was what the letter was referring to.he stated if he fixed everything that could possible be wrong with the turn signal i would have a repair bill as long as his arm.my concern is i feel like i could be in a serious accident if the turn signal quits working again or getting a ticket for not using it when it actually failed.i'm kind of at a loss of what i actually can do.i know this might not be the problem they are referring to because they really didn't explain in the letter it just said contact your olds dealer, which they were of no help.i asked him if he was aware of the letter sent out and he said kind of. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

2002 oldsmobile alero - turn signal only works intermittently.

The turn signals at times can be working, then they stop completely while operatingthe vehicle.....after all while will begin working again.

The turn signal is flashing in and out of use.sometimes it works when you turn the signal on, and other times it does not work.sometimes it stops working after it has started working, and it goes out before the turn is completed.there has been no crash yet, but i do not feel safe when making a turn and the signal stops working.i have not had the vehicle serviced at this time, because i thought a recall had been issued and i was waiting on the letter from the manufacturer.

We have been having trouble with our turn signals going out sporadically.we never know when they are going to not work.this is very dangerous but we were told tat only certain vin#s had this recall.however this is happening to too many people who are having to pay out of pocket for this repair, it is ridiculous.we also like many others have had the problem with not being able to start our vehicles because of theignition.we had to pay $700 to get it rekeyed, and we have a passenger window that has fell into the door, which still is not fixed.weshould all be given the opportunity to get the signals fixed under recall not just some when its the same problem.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the turn signal failed to operate and the hazard lights operated independently. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting). The approximate failure mileage was 82,762.

Dt:the contact stated that the turn signals worked intermittently.he had not taken the vehicle to a dealer at this time.no repairs or corrections have been made.there was a recall on an earlier model year, however, thisvehicle experienced thesame defect as indicated in the recall.

Turn signal lights flicker but fail to come on in back of vehicle, or they just don't work at all. This is an intermittent problem. I may start out driving and they are fine, then they completely stop working, and by the end of the trip they work again. Sometimes they work the whole trip, sometimes none at all. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I replaced the fuse for the signal lights and this did not remedy the problem. This has been an ongoing problem for the past few months.

Dt:consumer complained about a turn signal problem.the turn signals worke d intermittently. The problem first started onaugust 15, 2005.the consumer was in the process of getting the repair done.manufacturer'srecall03043 was issued for earlier year models.

Signal lights work only sometimes. The same problem was in the 2001 oldsmobile and had a recall for the correction. Nothing for the 2002 which is doing the same thing as the oldsmobile 2001

My turn signal lights fail to turn on some times.i have a 2002 alero and i see a there have been other complaints and there is a pe 05-055 where there is a recall.my car has under 50 000 km.can i get mine changed for free?

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the audible sound that accompanies the turning signal continuously chimed after the turn was completed. The sound would increase before stopping sporadically. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 71,165. Updated 12/2/14the vehicle was repaired by replacing the combination switch for the turn signal. Updated 10/1/2015

Turn signal indicators & lamps fail erratically......then operate regularly before failing again.

Out of the blue the turn signals stop working. Almost causing an accident. Took my car to the dealership they gave it back to me , and said that they found nothing wrong with it. Until this day i still have this problem, is there anything i can do to solve this problem?

My blinkers on my 2002 oldsmobile alero don't work most of the time.my horn does not work.

I discovered my turn signals weren't working while driving recently.since then i've discovered that the problem is intermittent; sometimes they work with no problems, sometimes not.generally i can monkey with the hazard light button after i've turned the car on but before i start driving to ensure that they're in working condition.but it's no guarantee they'll be working at the end of the trip.while researching this problem online i see that a number of people are experiencing it and that the nhtsa is investigating.i plan on having it repaired as soon as i get a chance, but it'd be nice if there was a recall outstanding already.

Turn signal malfunction involving flickering of turn signal at random. I will be driving and hear the flasher go off erratically. No consequences except a lot of annoyance from the sound and having to replace the flasher myself. Will save old part.

Turn signals and flasher work only once in awhile all of a sudden.*la

Hazard switch - turn signals not working / intermittent.

Dt: consumer states that if the fuse is in the vehicle the windshield wipers constantly run.when he first bought the vehicledealer claimed he fix it.the signals on the vehicle seem to be going too fast, and it smells like the wires are burning.

Multiple intermittent turn-signal malfunctions in 2002 oldsmobile alero since purchase in 2003.malfunction can sometimes be controlled by lightly pushing in on hazard warning switch located on dash.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact wasdriving approximately between 45-50 mph merging into another lane when she noticed that the turn signal failed to function. The failure occurred intermittently with both turn signal indicators. There were several occasions when the turn signal indicator functioned whenever engaging the hazard warning lights. The headlights, tail lights and turn signal bulbs were replaced; however, the failure continued. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection where the technician tested the complete signal indicator system fuse and informed the contact that it was not the cause of failure. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.

2002 oldsmobile alero - turn signal only works intermittently.

Turn signals intermittently quit working, but hazards work fine. Also, intermittently when you turn the steering wheel fully (either way) the abs light and low traction off light come on which clear after turning the ignition off and restarting, but does it again or maybe not for a while.

Dt:2002 oldsmobile alero.the consumer stated the hazard warning light worked intermittently.the switch also controls the turn signals, and this does not always work.the hazard warning light pushed through the dashboard.the vehicle has not been taken to the dealership, but oldsmobile told them it was not under recall.the problem started last year, and it was fixed at that time.the switch was replaced, not at a dealership.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero.the contact stated that the left and right turn signals did not work.a local mechanic replaced a component, but the contact was unsure of the exact name of the component.the turn signals stopped working approximately two weeks after they were replaced.there were no warning indicators.the vehicle has not been repaired or diagnosed at this time.the current mileage is 84,000 and failure mileage was 79,000.

Dt:the contact stated that he saw on tv that the blinker switches in this type of vehicle were tearing off. He was driving at nightwith lights on bright becauseof the blinker switchnot working.

In my 2002 oldsmobile alero, my turn signals become very intermittent and sometimes fail to function all together causing me to pull to the side of the road and restart my vehicle to get the turn signals working again. Sometimes i need to hold in the button for the hazard flasher button while pushing my turn signal down in order to get them to work for a short time. I have seen that the 2001 alero has been recalled for a similar problem the recall number is03v327000.

I have been experiencing fuel smells seeping thru my air vents when i drive and i took my car to the shop several times.each time the mechanics have told me that my orings and some other items need replacing.these expenses are very costly and i have no job!i've drawn all my unemployment benefits but i need my car to keep being able to search for employment or go to work when i get these temp offers for work!!!i saw my car has been included in a recall, but gm says it's not my car--based on their system of knowing the last 8 digits of my vin. But i have been experiencing these issues! even when i fill up on gas, the smell is all on my car, on me!i even have to roll down the windows for the first few days after i re-fill!!! can somebody help me???? i am so sick of the virtues in this country! people don't do the right thing for fear of it costing them a dollar!! they don't care about the lives they are impacting--justtheir [xxx] wallets! excuse my language and choice of verbage, but it really makes me sick! ihave to quit now because it really bothers me to know that between the manufacturers and these automakers, neither wants to value anything over money! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When fueling the sensor wasn't working cause of gas spilled on the ground may cause of fire.

Afterfuelingup and without any warning gasoline splashed outside of the tank. Dealer replacedtank solenoid, butproblem still occurring.

The car shuts off whiledriving. It ishorrible ,steering wheel locks, and i practically have to brake my arms and back trying to turn it to get out of traffic. When it shuts off it makes and awful bussing noise and all display lights are lit up. I believe it maybe weather related because it mostly happens when it is hot outside. When i go to restart my car i have to turn the key to the on position, and make sure the service enginelight turns on before i can start the car. Otherwise, it will turn over ,but won't fire up. When the light does come on i can hear something switching on towards the back of the car. Since i don't know much about cars i amassuming that it is the fuel pump. If anyone else has these same problems, and has an idea of a way to fix this ,please let me know so the car doesn't kill me.

Updated 06/25/07

Clutch master cylinder failed on february 5 and has been at the dealer since the morning of the 6th. Gm is unable to find replacement part. This part is also used on the 2002 grand am with standard transmission. As this renders the car inoperable (won\\'t srart and can\\'t shift gears). I find it incredible that there isn\\'t one to be found in the us

Driver's side seatback will fall backward about an inch when accelerating or applying brakes.contacted dealer. They are aware ofprboblem, but will not fix it.

My tensor pulley is going out and my safety sensors like anti lock, trac off and now service engine soon keep coming on had it in shop and found nothing wrong. Now its making loud noises.it happens when im stopped and moving

This car is a headache because you have to keep changing the brakes about every 4 wks on one side then later the other side starts to wear down...i have changed my brakes 3 time in the last 2 months for just one side...it is causing damage to my rotors. They act like they can't stop, it is dangerous on wet grounds and it is very costly to keep repairing the same issue less than 6 months...unfortunately i got the ones that have a warranty on them to replace due to wear.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the while driving at various speeds, the check engine and abs warning lights illuminated. The contact mentioned that when the brake pedal was depressed excessive force was required to stop the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the steering wheel was loose. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

I own a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The brakes started making a noise at 15,000 miles and i took it in for service. I was told by the serviceman that it was common because the rotors were made from recycled material and do not hold up due to salt being used on the roads.

Speeed sensor repestly needs to be replaced.if this not vital tothe vehicle's safety and is only a f eature that is reassuring the driver.three kights go on, chimes ring, and it appears that something is changing how the car drives- hard.there is caabin noise resulting from the apparently change in shifting.this will be the third time in four years thatspeed sensors need to be replacedis it not the speed sensors, and another part= like electrical and the codes are the same?are the sensors themselves faulty?

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 35 mph she heard a noise and the service, low traction and anti lock brake lights illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the anti lock sensor on the driver's side of the vehicle. A couple of months later the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken again to the dealer who replaced the front passenger anti lock sensor. Six months later, the failure happened again. The contact stated that the failure occurred numerous times. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. The current mileage was 121,000.

While braking, the front end would wobble. The cause had not been determined. The dealership will be notified. Please provide more information.

2002 olds alero v6 with 24,000 miles began developed pulsation and noise from front brakes. Dealer found warped front rotors and resurfaced.immediately after warranty work, creaking noise developed in front brakes.dealer diagnosed clips on brake pads as culprit and refused warranty repair.brake pads have 5mm+ remaining and should not need replacement under "wear parts" at 24,000 miles.excessive creaking continues.

Dt*:the contact stated while depressing the brake pedal at 15mph, a grinding noise was coming from the front and rear brakes.the noise was compared to metal on metal sound.the vehicle was taken to the local dealership for inspection.the dealer determined the rotors and pads were worn and needed replaced.the rotors and pads were replaced seven times previously for the same problem.on average, the brakes and pads were replaced every 20,000 miles.the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact the reason the rotors and pads were being replaced so often was, asbestos was no longer used in the materials when manufacturing the parts.this would lead to replacement of the parts more often which would be considered normal basic maintenance of the vehicle.

Brake complaint:front and rear brake problems continue including abnormal accelerated wear, brake noises and rotor corrosion.front and rear rotors have been replaced twice, turned on numerous occasions and the front and rear pads have been replaced several times in less than 32,000 miles.in total, more than $1,000 has been spent in out of pocket repairs plus warranty work to date.it is now necessary to have the brakes checked every 3,000-5,000 to insure that brake operation is safe and that the front and rear pads and rotors are in good working order.corrosion of the rotors remains a problem and accelerates the wear of the pads.

When driving down hill vehicle shook.dealer indicated that front rotors were warped and should be replaced.

Consumer statedbrake lining separated from the bonding. ......the inside front brake pad linings separated from backing plate, left pad wore out more than right. Dealer would do nothing. They claime dit was a worn out part not a defect. Called oldsmobile customer assistance canter. A factory representative came to dealer and claimed if this would hav ehappened at 24,000 miles it would have been a factory defect. An independent parts dealer said that the bonding should never fail, nomatter of mileage.

It was a on sept 2 2006, my 17 yr daughter was driving on the highway a hour and half a way from home and noticed failure in her brakes.they where not working good when she got closer to her destination she lost all brakes control.this could have been a fatality if this would have been on the highway but all brake function was lost at her approaching destination. The cause was a brake line plastic clip was busted which caused the line to rub against the crankshaft and rubbed a hole in the line causing the fluid to run out, it cost 175.00 to fix, that including the towing. I feel if this hose was held by a metalclip this would not have happened, i think this should be a recallbecause this could have beena very serious after come, not to mention this was my 17 year old child.

The car turns off while i am driving resulting in loss of all electrical and power components. No power brakes or steering. It does this all the time and i've taken it in and they can not find the problem.

Thanks.

The contact called a local dealer (jerry seiner chevrolet, 1530 s 500 w, salt lake city, ut 84115) and was informed that the original key was needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 141,111.

2002 oldsmobile alero has problems with steering assembly.*mrthere were times while the vehicle was in motion, the front steering mechanism would steer left or right without the steering wheel moving and the consumer would have no control.the power steering pump assembly, power steering gear assembly, steering rotation sensor , hub assembly bearing were all replaced several times.(lawyer on behalf of consumer)

While driving at 65 mphand without any warning vehicleshook.vehicle was taken to the dealership, and mechanic determinedsteering box needed to be replaced at consumer'sexpense of $900.00

As i was merging onto the highway 496 from waverly rd in lansing headed east my car suddenly began shaking terribly and the next thing i knew the vehicle just shot to the right at increased speed causing me to hit a number of trees before finally stopping. My 5 year old son was in the backseat of the vehicle at the time. Once the tow truck came he determined that the tire rod broke on the vehicle causing the accident.this is a 2002 alero still under warranty and had just been serviced july 14, 2005 for oil change tire pressure check and so forth.

The steering was hard and had it inspected.the results being a worn out steering rack that was leaking power steering fluid.the ase certified master mechanic stated that this is a common problem in gm vehicles.cars are engineered products - the user should not have to replace such parts on a regular basis because, the customer buys cars based on the reliability of mechanical and hydraulically engineered components.i am disappointed that it is a constant mental stress for the owner to actually 'expect' known problems that gm is not ready to acknowledge - though comparable japanese and german cars run without such problems in the similar components for the life of the car.

The dash had begun pulling away and coming unglued about 2 years ago. I found that this is a problem with this model year. When i spoke with the dealer they said it was not part of a recall. But they would split the cost with me -my end would be $650. I could not afford it and it has continued to rumple and bubble up. I am the only owner. It is a defect that no one wants to address. Especially, since my warranty will be up with in a month or two. I just got tired of fighting with the dealer to do something. I have given up and will not be purchasing a gm car again. Thanks for nothing -my loyalty is going somewhere else.

In september 2004 i purchased a used 2002 oldsmobile alero.by november my alero's interior door panels started to bubble and buckle on 3 doors.my vehicle is still under the bumper to bumper gm factory warranty.i brought my car to brown (dealership) in saco, maine and was told to call gm to see if i could get the work approved.they denied the work and said they didn't cover "cosmetic problems".i then filed a complaint with the better business bureau.someone from gm who handles the bbb cases called and said once again there was nothing they could do for me.this time the said the problem was caused by the previous owner.before my case went to arbitration gm requested the bbb to send out a technical expert to look at the car.his conclusion was inadequate adhesive.not long after the report came out and before arbitration, gm called and informed me that they will fix my alero.they told me i must go to brown in saco, maine where kevin brady (service manager) said he still refuses to fix the car.i called gm back and they said to find a dealership that will do the work.this problem seems to plague thousands of alero owners from what i have seen on the internet.this is a factory defect that gm must own up to!!!

I took a long road trip vacation this past summer.the 2002 alero turned over 36,000 miles before i got home.i didn' t drive the car for a few days upon my return.when i opened the door a few days later, the glue had come unglued from the leather on the dash and three of the door pads under the windows and the leather was buckled very badly.you can view picuters of the dash and door pads if you will go to http://www.dillows.com/alero.htm on the internet because as they say a picture is worth a thousand words.i went to the dealer who refused to fix it.i contacted oldsmobile who refused to fix it after keeping me waiting three months to hear their refusal.i contacted gm via email who emailed be back and told me to never contact them again concerning my claim # 1-143309922 for the dash and door pads coming unglued and buckled because of their factory defects in their manufacturing process.it is not right and should be against the law for gm to be allowed to have sold us the alero full of factory defects and for them just to shut down the oldsmobile line and be able to walk away from the customers who pirchased the alero which is a series of factory defects inside and out without being helt responsible.

The contact owns a 2002 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the entire dashboard was coming apart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions but the contact was informed that the failure was a cosmetic issue and offered no assistance. The manufacturer was notified who stated that the vehicle should be taken to the dealer for repairs and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 104,000. ..updated 09-21-12

Driver side strut spring fractured while backing out of driveway.

Please call me at [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While braking, the front end would wobble. The cause had not been determined. The dealership will be notified. Please provide more information.

Last year i had a rubbing type sound coming from my front end, upon taking it to tuffy i learned that i needed a left wheel bearing.i replaced the wheel bearing and 7 months later i had to replace the right wheel bearing.currently i am being told that the wheel bearings still needs to be replaced.my abs lights are on and there is a popping sound when my car turns.i have a new tie rod so that rules the noise coming from it.the bearings are expensive to replace and i only had the car three years and i had to replace bearings, the manifold intake, a tie rod, and hoses.

2002 alero window regulator is brittle and disintegrating causing window to fall down.the cd player was inoperative, the rear view mirror was loose and the low tire pressure monitor message came on.

Car would not start. Security light flashing. Car towedmechanic stated a security defect

Problem malfunction indicator lamp:service engine soon light came on wednesday 8/20/03 just on the right side. I was returning home after driving approximate 30 miles when this light came on. Call the dealer from which i brought this program car.call:bacon autoplex in palestine texas. Purchased 7/14/03 with 14, 016 miles. Called them about 3pm on 8/20/03.i filled up with gas ( which gauge indicated 1/2/ full)prior to the 30 miles then light came on.i was told that it wouldn't hurt to drive the car since no one was there(bacon) to test for the cause on 8/20/03.told(bacon ) that i was going to drive over 140 on 8/21/03.said that it would not hurt. The light went off 8/21/031/2 miles from my home.8/22/03 about 11 am the light came on once again 15699 miles.call bacon 8/22/03 regarding the problem once again.they said that i could bring it over for testing which i did.found a code 440? what ever that was. Bacon said it could be several things.did not make any attempt to further test.i did talk to the manager of bacon, still no attempt to test it further.manage did ask if i wanted another car.why would i want another olds alero ? iwas more then up set:i do notfeel safe with this car. Fail to do the testing for exact cause. Appointment made but i don't think that it will be done at this time since for now they have not found the cause. The light comes on with fuel is 1/2/ full both times.

I am seeing a lot of people with complaints about aleros, and i have set up a website to hopefully get all of them together and do something, as i am also having problems with my 2002 olds alero.the website is accesswave.ca/~alero02.

I started having problems in feb. Of this year(2005).the car would not start.

"electrical system recall" my car is not registered with the recall but i am having the same issues with my cars starter as my brother did with his 2002 malibu that has this recall and he got his fixed and it fixed the problem. My car does not start half the time when i try to start it.

My tensor pulley is going out and my safety sensors like anti lock, trac off and now service engine soon keep coming on had it in shop and found nothing wrong. Now its making loud noises.it happens when im stopped and moving

When going up the slightest incline at 70 mph rpms revved, andengine started missing, felt like it was going to stall.

The accelerator pedal on my 2002 olds alero is sticking.the first time this happened i was going down a mountain i live on and had to brake the entire time;i have never had to do that before.the second time it happened i was ended up going 40 on a flat road and my foot never hit the gas pedal.this has happened on several occasions since then and i'm not sure how to fix it.thank you.

When applying accelerator at 50-55 mph vehicle will not accelerate, engine will not respond to the pedal being pushed.

When applying accelerator at 50-55 mph vehicle will not accelerate, engine will not revv. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 4 times, cannot find acause.

The accelerator (throttle) got stuck while my daughter was driving approx. 45 miles per hour and caused the car to run fast causing her not to be able to stop at a intersection sending the vehicle over a ditch and hurting her and the passenger.we have police report and pictures, no other car was involved.

Drivers side window on my 2002 oldsmobile alero fails to roll up. I have checked on the internet and there a "many" complaints regarding this same problem, in addition to the eleven (11) nhtsa and service bulletins you already have on this same problem. This is a safety hazard.

Consumer stated the defogger lines exploded.as a result, a small fire erupted. No injuries reported....consumer didn't call fire department or report it to police department.

Driver window fell down into door.

For the fifth time the window on my car has broken.usually the window regulator goes out and the brackets break along with my window.this time, only the brackets broke and not the regulator.problem is my car is no longer under warranty.i do not feel like i should have to pay for the repairs since my car is a 2002 model and this is the fifth time this has happened.obviously something is not right with the situation.

I have a2 door 2002 olds. Alero that has many problems. My window regulators have broken on 3 different occasions.when this happens,my windows fall into the door and have no working capability. I went to an olds. Dealership to have this problem fixed. The dealership stated that the problem was not caused by anything i did. It costs a little over 1000.00 to fix both windows on every occasion that they break. I have paid this amount on two separate occasions and i feel that it's not right for me to be paying anything at all. I can't afford to get them fixed again nor do i feel that i have to. I continually drive around in the freezing cold weather w/broken windows that shouldn't have broken in the first place. I would really like someone to recall this problem because i have researched it and have found that i am not the first one to have this problem. There are hundreds of reports on just this problem not to mention plenty others.

1. The drivers side window and passenger side window start to slow down when being rolled up or down, within weeks of noticing that the window will either fall to the bottom of the door or get stuck on the track.have replaced each window motor twice and now replacing the drivers side for the third time.the window also has to be replaced this time, because of cracks.they have told me now, that oldsmobile has changed the window motor and frame.meaning that the entire things has to be replaced.costing well over 600 dollars.if gm wanted to change the window settings and everything else shouldn't they have sent out a recall for this.was also told by a gm dealer in parts that the windows were not lasting for the entire life of the car.

2002 alero window regulator is brittle and disintegrating causing window to fall down.the cd player was inoperative, the rear view mirror was loose and the low tire pressure monitor message came on.

The driver and passenger windows constantly short circuit so they can not be opened.the driver window sounds like it is off track and has trouble closing.the passenger window stops working for no reason.the motors have been replaced by the dealer but the motor stopped working again.it would be nice to be able to roll down the window.

Dt:two door vehicle.the power windows mechanism that supports the window broke.the window will not roll up.consumer had one side repaired by a mechanic.

Dt: consumer states that if the fuse is in the vehicle the windshield wipers constantly run.when he first bought the vehicledealer claimed he fix it.the signals on the vehicle seem to be going too fast, and it smells like the wires are burning.

With only 73,000+ miles on my 2002 oldsmobile alero, both my left and right front hub bearings are worn out.this is an item that, at least, should last 100,000 miles.furthermore, my supervisor's 2001 oldsmobile intrigue with 81,000 miles has the same issues.

I have had to have three new wheel bearings, two on the right and one on the left in less than 57,000 miles.
