Was involved in a frontal collision on 3/5/03 and the air bags failed to deploy in my 2001 oldsmobile alero. I was traveling 40-45 mph southbound on scottsdale rd when another car turned left in front of me. The impact bent the impact bars, moved my compressor to the other side of the vehicle, hood, bumper, fender damage, the preliminary estimate without doing a tear down is at $5000.00. I have suffered neck, shoulder and leg injuries. I contacted gm and they said a certified gm rep will go look at the car and take pictures and will contact me on the 29th. I received a call from a man who did not identify himself at the dealer ship and said he was a private investigator for gm and down loaded the info off the computer in the car and the air bag should not have gone off, and told me i need to have them start repairing the vehicle immediately. Yet in the owners manual it states the air bag will deploy in a near frontal or frontal impact and that they can only access this computer in the car with the owners consent which i did not give. I have had numerous problems with this car from electrical engine work, the fuel sensor showing me i had gas when i don't, scratched rotors, and the hazards and blinkers working and not working which still has not been fixed by the dealership. Even the police offers did not want to get in the vehicle to move because the air bag did not go off and they where concerned that it did not.

No deployment of frontal air bags when vehicle was hit in front from side by a jeep cherokee. Shoulder belt did not restraint driver and driver hit the steering wheel.

Vehicle was in 2 severe head on collisions, and air bags failed to deploy. The passenger sustained injuries as a result of the second accident, and major frontal damage occurred.the first incident occurred when the consumer slid on wet pavement and hit the vehicle in front. The other vehicle sustained a cracked bumper and the consumer put scratches on theirs. The second incident involved the consumer hitting someone in the rear and did $6000. Dollars worth of damages to their own vehicle. The bumper was pushed back, both headlights were cracked, driver side fender dented and the hood was pushed back a couple offeet. The consumer's brother and friend both had similar accidents and the air bag deployed and slower speeds of impact. *ph

Hazard switch failed resulting in turn signals also not working. Part was replaced in 2004 under recall id 34013 but replacement part has failed.

After having recall of ign. Key performed, the key became hard to turn on, catching and having to wiggle to start the engine. Vehicle has stalled while driving 3 times, loosing power breaks and steering, coast to stop, and vehicle starts again.feel this is directly connected and caused by the faulty key and ignition system, appears the faulty key has caused the tumbler to wear-out, and any jarring of the key and or dash results in ignition to shut off. I have contacted gm and they refuse to address the problem, saying this recall would not cause the system to fail.. Saying because of the high mileage on the vehicle, it is not there fault. And i must pay for the repair.. But i pray to differ, if the defective key and ign. Unit were not at fault, then the key/tumbler would not have worn-out.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the key failed to turn into the on position in order to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. Car won't start. The car will try to start up, but will not turn over. It's like the gas has been disengaged. Also, the security light comes on.we have had the car towed several times to the mechanic.we have had the fuel injector and fuel pump replaced.happens frequently now-am concerned it will stall in traffic and be a safety issue.have started using the 10 min wait/re-start technique i have read about on the internet and it does work, but that is a "band-aid" not a cure.

The passlock system on my oldsmobile alero is defective, not allowing me to start my car unless it goes through a 10-15 minute reset. This problem is shared by many many other people. It is frightening to think that may car is not able to respond in the case of an emergency. This should be recalled and fixed by gm.

My vehicle turn signals are working intermittently. Upon researching this issue, i see that there has since been a recall.however, my vin doesn't fall into their criteria, but the exact same thing is happening to my vehicle. They refuse to repair at their expense. This is very unsafe and i have a young teenager driving that cannot be without the use of turn signals.the recall number is 03v327000. I indicated the date this occurred as the date the vehicle was given to my daughter. However, it has been an ongoing issue with the previous owners.

My car won't start due to the security light coming on. I had my car towed into a dealership. They stated no start just crank theft light came on. They inspect and found code b2960, replaced pass lock cylinder and recode and program. This should be a recall issue, there to many complaints with this car. There was a recall regarding in fuel pressure regulators and this is similar to that fuel being cut off from the engine. And it says that when these cars reach 102,000 miles this is what happens it either won't start due to security or when you shift it locks and security lights come on. Samething. Please look into this matter it cost me $580.00 to repair this. And they new it would happen when you reach the 102,000 mile point.

In september 2008 i was doing some errands and it was fine at one place that i had stopped at well i had stopped to go grocery shopping came out and went to put my key in the ignition and nothing would happened, it wouldn't even turn over. Called my dad, he came out to look at it everything appeared to be fine due to previous when i first bought the car there was misfire situation that had to be fixed. I had it towed to the dealer. The next morning after they hooked it up to the diagnostic test come to find out it was my pass lock system. Which, is where your computer doesn't read your key and stops sending fuel to the engine. So, to have it replaced with labor and all cost me about 600.00 to get it fixed. They had to purchase a new pass lock system and install it in my car.

I have a 2001 olds alero i bought for my daughter. It has a problem with starting and stalling. Based on my research it appears to be a problem with the passkey security system. I have had the car towed multiple times, had it in the shop multiple times without resolution. It appears to be a common problem with gm cars of this era. There is no service notice available from gm on how to fix this problem. The car will just stop sometimes when my daughter is driving and i fear it could lead to a crash or injury.

While driving the vehicle the car shut off while ignition was on. No warning whatsoever

This has happened to me in my 2001 oldsmobile alero over and over again for the past 4 years, and have had it at 4 or 5 different shops and nobody can fix it. But the car turns off on me in the middle of driving and then wont restart. But after i have it towed home it will start a day or two later.. I've had the battery replaced, the starter, the fuel pump, the alternator and have had it hooked up to the computer to see if any warning signals go off and nothing comes up.. Its happened on the highway on back roads and while sitting at a stop light. It is very dangerous and i think and hope that oldsmobile will do something about it to help its customers have a safer commute to and from their destination...

2001 oldmobile alero. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for recall regarding ignition switch. *tgwthe consumer stated the window regulators had to be replaced.

I recently bought a used 2001 oldsmobile alero gl and not even a day later, the turn signals have stopped working. The fuses are still in great shape and the hazard lights still work. I have done my research and have found that a recall was issued for certain vin #'s for the turn signal relay and hazard light relay to be replaced. Although my vin is not one of the issued numbers, i am experiencing the same problems. This is a danger when driving and i want my vin to be investigated for the same recall. I just bought this car and was unaware of these issues. My safety and the safety of my family mean the most, and i can't afford to fix this problem myself when it wasn't caused by me in the beginning. Oldsmobile/gm should be responsible for fixing all affected vehicles and not just the ones in the recall bulletin.

Air coming into the intake manifold and my low trac light comes on every time i have to do a turnaround or back around in a slow position from a start posistion. So im not getting my gas mileages worth nor can i do a uturn in a fast acceleration. It will get slower thats dangerous if upcoming traffic starts to proceed making it liable for an accident. Im scared for my life.im in california in los angeles.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While traveling 60 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle immediately accelerated to 80 mph and then slowed back down. When it first occurred there was a security light in the instrument display that suddenly came on (security) and stayed on as i was driving. The next morning as i tried to start my car it wouldn't start. And i looked in the owners manual and it stated that the ignition light starts to flash after turning the key to the on or run position then the ignition needs to be serviced.

2001 alero (2 dr. Coupe)i have been on several sites and am finding many alero owners having the same problems that i have encountered over the last couple of years.fuel pump, wheel hub assemblies, intake manifold gaskets, power window failure(grinding/breaking clips/regulators), serv engine and traction control lights constantly on, electrical problems, brake problems etc.it is my belief that olds knew they weren't making this car anymore, and sent a sub-par product out into the market "hoping" to get away with as few recalls as possible.i have numerous complaints filed with olds and general motors.general motors has gone way out and offered me a $500.00 certificate towards the purchase of a new vehicle.give me one reason i should go through another nightmare like this one.recalls have never been issued on any of these complaints because it would probably cost millions of dollars for them to fix the problems.i constantly wait to see if any class action suits involving these vehicles occurs as i will be one of the first to jump in.what's the saying..."if it looks like dog crap and smells like dog crap don't step in it, it's probably dog crap".there's a defined problem with these vehicles and gm should be taking responsibility for them.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The key remained in the off position and failed to turn. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v40000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000. Updated 6/30/15the engine and fuel pump were replaced. Updated 07/02/15

2001 olds alero with only 31,000 miles - wife called and said it would crank but not start, she tried multiple times, i drove to location (about 15 minutes) used my key, it would crank over but not start, had it towed to local garage, after sitting overnight they tried starting, it would not, pushed it into the garage and checked to see if engine was getting fuel, it was but it would shut off after a second or two, they determined it was the security system passlock ii causing the issue allowing to crank but shutting off the fuel, they went through a 10 minute reset procedure and it started. I researched on the net and found this to have hundreds (if not more) of complaints from gm owners 1996 thru 2004 i believe, many people being ripped off for repairs and replacements that do not resolve the issue. I understand from this research that honda had a similar issue and put out a recall.why doesn't gm admit they have a problem and fix it thru a recall??they say this isn't a safety issue, i say it is, what if my wife has our infant grand daughter with her and goes to leave someplace and it is 0 degrees outside, she now has to wait 10 minutes and hope the car will start? or if your car stalls on a railroad track and now i have to wait 10 minutes to let it reset, the list goes on and this is not the owner's problem, it is the sellers problem they should be forced to fix. Towing cost was $55 and garage cost was $29 but others have spent hundreds if not thousands on worthless repairs and replacements - suggest you do a little research on passlock problems and you will see what i mean.

Just got this car from the dealer and there is a gas leak also the key comes out of the ignition with the car on acceleration i have to put it back in and wiggle it to get it off and there's a o-ring sensor leak can't pass the echeck. I've had this car since august and the estimate to get the car fixed to pass the check is over the amount for the car and i am still paying a note when the car is station is leaking gas when it is motion it barely leaks when i park it, it pours out

The technician informed the consumer about a recall on the vehicle, but the consumer never received a notice from the manufacturer.*la the vehicle would not start right away.there would be several tries but the vehicle would never "crank over."the engine vibrated when the a/c was used, the fuel gauge was inoperative, the front windows would not roll down, the rear handles felt like they were sticking, there was a burnt oil smell, and after several times of starting the vehicle it would run rough.the master switch, a/c compressor, crank sensor, fuel pump, fuel tank, hazard switch, and the window regulator were replaced.the mechanics repositioned a wire harness from the crank sensor and replaced the pressure control solenoid.the turn signals stopped working in traffic in which there was almost an accident.the antenna was replaced because the radio signal would go out every time the rear defroster was used (this did not solve the problem).the back window had to be completely replacedto solve the antenna problem.the water pump was replaced because the seal for the coolant leaked. *sc

Just bought my 2001 alero right off the car lot,but now the right side passenger mirror isn't working, lighter isn't working, called the car lot to tell them that andhe said that it could be the fuse was bad! so i buy a used car for three grand and minor stuff starts happening to it.... How much is a fuse??

Along with the current general motors recall with the ignition switches the olds alero olds aurora pontiac grand am also have same issues just google ignition problems (alero) car stalls while driving no start issues must do a relearn process to get the car to start and eventually car will no longer start.general motors was aware of this issue but never issued a recall. It deals with the ignition switch and faulty security system that were supposed to work in conjunction with each other.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero.the module that controls the rear window defogger, located underneath the back panel by the rear window, becomes very hot and melts.it melted the connection and the box that contains the module.as a result, the defogger does not work.the vehicle has not been to a dealer or repair shop.the contact has found several complaints for this failure and believes a recall should be issued.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 80,000.

Signal turn don't work, work on and off causing hazard.

I have been experiencing problems with my electrical system in my vehicle since the day i purchased it.i have experienced several problems that i believed to have lead to what i am experiencing now.i have to turn on my lights manually now.that isn't so much of a problem, the problem is that when my car does not automatically turn on my lights this means my ac does not work, my power windows do not work, my stereo does not work, cruise control does not work, my speedometer does not work, my gas gauge does not work or my thermostat does not work (the inside panel of the inside of my car does not work).i can start up my car, but nothing inside my car works.driving in az with no ac and not being able to lower your windows because there is an electrical gadget not allowing the vehical to work properly.i have written to oldsmobile asking them to look into the problem, they have neglected all responsibilties from all the problems i have and am experiencing with my vehical.i have also made a formal complaint through the b.b.b., general motors have yet to respond.i feel it is very dangerous driving around in a vehical that decides to work when it wants to.all of the other complaints i have read are very similar to mine.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the turning signal failed to operate. The trac off and anti-lock system warning lights displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was stated that the dashboard needed to be opened in order to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

Hard starting. Vehicle just keeps on cranking but does not start unless you pump accelerator several times.this happens daily,-every time you attempt to start the vehicle.we also have a problem with the hazard warning switch and directional lights,-police flashed me down and gave verbal warning.

Dt*: the contact stated the track off, service vehicle soon, and abs lights illuminated at 79,000 miles.the vehicle was taken to the dealership where they were unable to determine why the lights were illuminating.

On several occasions while driving, my alero has completely shut off.the first time it happened, i was going 55 mph in traffic.the power steering shut down and it was hard to pull to the side of the road.if it is raining outside, you may as well just park it.it will not crank easily and it acts like it doesn't want to run once you get it to start.of course, when you take it to the shop they can't find anything wrong with it.my driver's side power window will not roll down.the low tire pressure light goes off every other day, even though the air pressure is fine and the interior doors look awful because the trim has come unglued.this is the worst car i have ever purchased.i would like to know what i can do to get this car repaired or replaced.

For some time the turn signals would only work intermittently. It seemed like i had more trouble with them if it was very hot and humid outside. Then, the turn signals triggered the hazard lights to come on. The turn signals are now inoperable. Sometimes the hazard lights come on by themselves and i am unable to turn them off.the turn signals quit working as i was driving down the road. The turn signals are completely inoperable now.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to be serviced under nhtsa campaign id number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The contact was concerned that the recall repair was performed on only the main key and not on the remaining two keys of the vehicle. The dealer declined to perform on the recall remedy on the remaining two keys due to them being aftermarket keys. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact did not experience a failure.

Was driving to the store. I arrive park the car turn it off. Go inside for 20 to 35 minutes, i get into the car and start her up and it doesn't start. Noticed that security is flashing again in right corner. Look at manual again same thing turn to run position and wait 10mins. Flashing will stop, turn back to off position and then try to start the car. It then starts but i have notice that this keeps happening to the point where even if the car does start and run the security light will stay on for days and then sometimes may go off. But even now this day august 20, 2014 at 2:06pm the security light stays on and at times the car will not start unless i go through the rest of waiting 10 minutes. Help me please.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Security light comes on, when flashing car will not start.

When driving the turn signals will work and then not work at random and this concerns me, it can create a serious and dangerous situation

Turning signals work intermittently and with no apparent reason (no bulbs burned out).driver's side electric window also works intermittently.

In feb. 2003 i had surgery and did not drive my car for about a week. When i finally drove my car, my drivers side window would not roll down. A couple of days later it started working and now has a grinding noise to it. Recently my horn stopped working completely. I replaced the relay switch and it still will not work.now, my turn signals work whenever they want to. The only way i can get them to work is to press my hazard switch and now it is getting to where it will not work. And last but not least my air conditioner is not blowing properly. On the 2 first settings it barely blows, if i press on my brakes it feels as if it completely quits. I have also noticed that when i roll down my windows the interior lights will dim and the car engine power will decline. I have had my car for 1 yr. I purchased it used with less than 25,000 miles. I feel these issues should be addressed because they can lead to safety issues. I was changing lanes and my blinkers failed and was almost hit by another car, at that time and still do not have a horn to blow to warn them that i was changing lanes also.the dealer i purchased the car from thinks that i am crazy. That i am a hypocondriac. They are uncooperative and basically refuse to help me. I feel i should not have to pay for something thatapparently a lot of alero owners are going through.

I plugged in the cigarette lighter and about thirty seconds after i lit my cigarette the wires behind the dash(instrument panel) began to smoke and caught fire. The wire coverings was burnt off to show bare wires shorting my entire car. The fuse located under the hood in the fuse relay center that went to the cigarette lighter was melted and burnt into the relay box.no electrical in my entire car works!!!

I have a 2001 old alero 6 months ago my vehicle would not start i had it towed to a gm dealer which told me i needed a fuel pump so i had it fixed well a few weeks later car would start one day then nothing the next now it wont start at all it died while i was driving with my 4 children we were stuck for an hour in the cold i had it towed to my mechanic he says itthe security system well it will cost almost 1000 dollars to fix so it will sit there until gm decides to do a recall i am not the first to complain and i know i wont be the last there should be something done as this is a safety issue.

The contact owned a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact noticed smoke coming from the steering wheel followed by flames. There were no injuries. The contact also stated that there was a shortage with the blinkers, which activated intermittently. The contact extinguished the fire. The vehicle was destroyed and not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero.the contact stated that the past lock security system disables fuel from entering the engine once the vehicle is started.he went to a local repair shop and a technician replaced the spark plugs, fuel pump, and filter.immediately after the repair, the failure resurfaced.currently, all of the remedies have been insufficient in correcting the failure.the failure mileage was 120,102 and current mileage was 123,771.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While driving at low speeds, the engine stalled and the power steering seized without warning. The vehicle crashed into a pole. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and declined to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. Several minutes later the vehicle was restarted and operated as designed. One month later while the contact was driving 60 mph, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but no cause for the failure was determined. The suggestion was made to the contact to use a different key. The contact followed the dealers recommendations however, the failure recurred one month later. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure and current mileage was 110,000. Updated 6/13/13 the consumer believed the reason the vehicle continuously stalled, was due to the anti-theft system. The system believed the vehicle was being stolen and shut off the gas line, so the vehicle would stall. Updated 06/17/13

Vehicle intermittently does not start on first attempt, especially after car is warmed up.manufacturer claims they cannot duplicate the problem, therefore there is no problem. Happens at least 5 times a week.

Ran a diagnostics test at a parts store and came back about the "intake air temperature circuit high input."i didn't think much about it, but the part is relatively cheap, i just don't know if i can replace that myself.but when i registered my vehicle it came back as a fail on the emissions test for the state due to this part.while looking it up and checking on line about this issue i saw several entries that it may also affect the warning lights for abs and braking systems.those have been on as well for a long time.i have had the brakes replaced twice in the past 2 years.the second time was because they had given me defective brake pads the first time and they were worn out with in 3 months.but now i have to get the intake air temperature circuit replaced, and it sounds like it may be more wiring than the circuit itself, but i don't have time and ability to work through all the possibilities, nor the money to let a mechanic do it as well.if this is a known issue, then why isn't it being addressed by oldsmobile (gm) either?they have a bulletin about it!

The first time it stopped working, i thought maybe i had just a burned out signal lamp, but then it started working again.it was pretty random at first, but now it will not work at all, or it will start working blink twice and then just stop.it may be "dead" for a long while and then just start back up.usually it just doesn't work at all anymore.i have driven down the highway with it turned on and it will be 5-10 minutes later and it will start blinking again.i see there is/was a recall for this exact problem, for model years 2000-2001 and i have a 2001, but they claim my vehicle is not part of the recall.the recall is 03v327000, or gm recall 03043a.the a was because they expanded it to include these two model years from an original recall.i talked to oldsmobile directly and they say it is not part of the recall.that was in a call, and i sent gm an e-mail detailing this problem, but i have not heard anything back from them either. I would think with all the other recalls they have going on, they should just accept this one and not make a big issue out of it.more negative press. As i was looking through the potential issues/recalls i did see a few other bulletins they had for issues on that model year and vehicle, some of which i am experiencing as well.i do understand that this is a 14-15 year old car, but i would love to drive it for a long time yet.

Electrical ground wire to alternator burnt out; caused battery to lose charged replaced twice within 2 years.

2001 oldsmobile alero - randomly shuts down while driving.dealer indicates that the gm passlock system is faulty $600 to replace.thisis a common problem on all gm and is very dangerous.i have 2 teenage daughters that have each been stranded various times as the car just randomly shuts down while driving.very dangerous while in traffic! or in areas that you wouldn't want your daughter stuck alone at night.this has been happening randomly for several years.no on could tell me until now what was causing it ( including other dealers)i have spent +$1,000 previously trying to solve this.

When i brake there is a grinding noise going on underneath the front of my car. Happens when i brake going down hill, or when i have to brake suddenly. When i brake normally, there is this shaking that is going on. I thought i needed new brake pads but that did not remedy the situation.also, my sunvisor falls off very frequently hitting me in the head. And my driver side mirror shakes violently while im driving. And my tires loose pressure constantly and sometimes the light even comes on when my tires arent low.

Security sensor fails.car will run fine one minute and not at all the next minute.have read of several complaints about this exact problem.obviously a defect with the car--is anything being done about it???now, resetting the sensor (the whole keep the key in the 'on' position for 10 minutes trick) doesn't work.where does this end???i know that no one has been seriously injured by this but if it is a wiring issue, it's only time before someone could be.also, if i get stranded with my children somewhere, that would be really bad.

There have been no accident or anything my 2001 alero has so many electrical issues!1)some times the electrical windows work, sometimes not, sometimes the electrical lock works, sometimes not, sometimes the car will start, sometimes not. It is not the battery. It is some short that is simmilar to how the blinkers and hazard lights were.

Consumerhad electrical problems since she purchased the vehicle.some of the problems included the following;road hazard light shorted out which caused all dashboard lights and external lights to not work/air conditioner (a/c)unit shorted out/ radio automatically resetitself at will, and blinker lights worked some times and some times not.she had this vehicle inrepair shop 5-6 times for the same problem, and no one couldsolve the problem.

Rear defroster stopped working. Went to dealer for another issue and dealer told me someone put in an inadequate wire to module and caused it to melt. Went to 3 junkyards today and found 6 alero around the same year that all had the wire melted to the module. Found this online so here i am.. Dealer tried to point finger at someone else but its obvious this is an alero problem. I'll be contacting the dealer again to see what they'll do about it before it causes a fire.

The turn signalcontinues to click after making a turn and using the signal.i first noticed this on the turnpike switching lanes.i put the turn signal on and when it was turned off it continued to click but the lights were not flashing.the noise seemed to be coming from behind the steering wheel.now the clicking will occur when i am driving straight or turning without using the turn signals.no repairs have been done.

I recently had my 2001 oldsmobile alero key ignition fail me. I had the recall done on the keys.all they did was put a plastic key cover on my keys. I got stranded due to my "new" keys not allowing my key ignition to turn over at all. I started to do research and have found many complaints that gm won't fix the ignition problem just drills a hole in the top of the key to make it seem lighter in weight and then just covers the original key with plastic.i can't afford this kind of thing happening. I was stranded for several hours due to this. What if this happens to someone with children?

I noticed during the thanksgiving holiday 2014 that my turn signals work when they want to . I was turning right and my mom was riding with me when she noticed that my turn signals was not working left or right. So we made it to our doctors appointment and when we were leaving they working . It's weird because bychanging the bulbs the turn signals are still going in and out when they want too. And we noticed light fluid leakage but it was not leaking in november when i brought my very own first car for cash and i had the oil changed soi took it back to jiffy lubes and the tech could not find a problem, this week january 21, 2014 my steering wheel is making this strange whistling noise when i make a turn, and my security light has came on and will not go off. So i decided to check the safety gm recall listing for help.

The contact owned a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and crashed. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. Medical attention was received, but the crash resulted in the death of the driver. The vehicle was destroyed and included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was made aware of failure. The failure mileage was unknown.updated 10/29/14 updated 4/23/2015

Lower intake gasket went at 70,000 both front wheel hubs went when we bought at 60000 an windows came off track alldash lights on fuel pump replaced an now head gasket is blown an heater core replaced at 80,000 now has 100,000 an is a lemon.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The hazard switch failed to work intermittently which also caused the left and right turn signals to fail. Nhtsa recall #03v327000, exterior lighting: hazard flashing warning lights: switch was related to the failure; however, the repair was made per the warranty. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact that his vin was not a part of the recall. The failure mileage was 102,000.

The turn signals work sometimes but if it rains they don't want to.

Dt:2001 oldsmobile alero.while driving at 65 mph in 5 pm traffic, the car engine shut off and coasted from the left lane to the emergency lane.it was then towed to an oldsmobile dealership; who said that the fuel pump was the problem for a second time.this car has had many problems.sometime the car will not crank at all.it also has a leak in the passenger side floor when it rains.the consumer heard about the volvo problems and the same thing is happening to this vehicle.the engine had only shut off one time.this happened around july 11, 2005.no injuries fires no crash reported.the fuel pump had been replaced 3 times.the fuel pump had an internal short.the vehicle would have to be placed in neutral, would start then die.the ignition switch was replaced.the fuel gauge would fall to empty, and the fuel light would come on. The vehicle would crank but not start.*sc

While sitting at a red light vehicle shut off and would not restart, had to push vehicle off of road, into parking lot, waited a few minutes and restarted vehicle, added fuel to vehicle went inside to pay and when i returned vehicle would not restart. Has continued to fail to start. Diagnosis pass lock system for security causes vehicle to shut off unexpectedly or not start unexpectedly.

Dash making clicking noise, sounds lize hazard warning noise, yet not activating hazard lights.very random.then most recently, noise seems to have stop and have seen on 3 occasions smoke from the dash area, near where the steering column meets the dash.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The failure recurred once. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the ignition switch was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,000.

I bought a 2001 oldsmobile alero in 2008 deployed for a year and half while gone the car sat in a garage came back and it worked fine for almost two years then one day it refused to start. The motor would crank but not turn over and the security light came on. I did the 10 minute security reset procedure per the owners manual and that work once but once i turned the car off it would not start again and the reset procedure would not work again. I have replaced the ignition switch with no change to the issue. The car has now been sitting for 6 months since i cant afford to go threw the process of replacing random parts that may or may not fix the issue. I am now down to my wife's car only with 4 kids. I am still making payments on this car and it doesn't even run and of course the dealer isn't taking it back. There are no guaranteed fixes for this issue.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. After stopping the vehicle, it failed to restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the lock cylinder and ignition switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the repairs needed were not covered under nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 43,991.

2001 oldsmobile alero ignition switch.*mwthe consumer stated the ignition switch was replaced in november 2010, due to the vehicle stalling when placed in reverse. Also, none of the gauges and dash lights worked, the fuel pressure regulator and head gasket were replaced.

I can start my car. While it is running, i can remove the key from the switch and place it back in. While its running.needs a new keyswitch.

Consumer stated the abs rotors were making a grinding noise although rotors and the pads were still new, dealer replaced rotors and pads, but vehicle was still making the grinding noise.also the alternator went out, wheels and tires were replaced due to the air pressure light illuminating, a front wheel alignment was performed, battery light and abs light was coming on.

Service vehicle soon, trac off light, and abs lighttook to dealer, out of warranty, private repair shop, cost-$500, grinding noise before lights turned on, dinging, lights went on, it was sensor in left front wheel bearing. Also have replaced front rotors, alternator at 65,000 miles. Key fob doesn''t lock drivers door. Hood on car replaced in 2006 under warranty because of blistering2002-water leak onto drivers floor, 5 times to dealer, replaced side door gasket, problem had to be solved by replacing windshield gasket. I'm afraid of all these complaints about turn signal failure and hazard light failure and the car just quitting. Trading in this piece of **** as soon as paid off.

Alternator failed, consumer was told this was normal because alternator was located above engine. Brakes make noise due to rotor and pad failure. Air pressure light comes on due to front tire air leak.

Problem with brakes, had to have new front brakes and front rotors put on car, still have dragging problem underneath car.now car having problems in starting and low tire pressure lights comes on even when tire pressure has been checked and corrected.

Horn of the car did not work after service for replacement of flasher unit. No trauma or injury to car. Inspection of car, it was found to be cracked steering wheel at the base and it damaged the horn ring. We were told that we could not drive the car until fixed as unsafe to drive. The dealer stated they had only ever seen 1 other such case in 37 years of service. Car must have had a defective steering wheel which may have caused an accident, injury or death.

Consumer states that he has to take one hand off the steering wheel to blow the horn, consumer feels this is unsafe.consumer states that the alarm is acting erratic, on one occasion it would not shut off.

Several problems on the 2001 oldsmobile alero that other owners seem to be having as well.turn signals went out/ gas gauge went out/ coolant gasket broke, and horn would sound randomly (had to eventually pull the fuse).

Horn may or may not sound when button depressed.problem is random.i have inspected fuse, swapped horn relay with a known good unit of same amperage, and checked connection at the horn itself.button for horn in center of steering wheel is apparently the problem.horn sounds roughly half the time when button depressed.

2001 oldsmobile alero.consumer writes in regards to defective ignition coil recall notice states same problem as consumer brake and steering failure accident.*ldthe consumer stated while driving over bumpy patch in the road the ignition was inadvertently switched out of the "run" position resulting in an accident.

Consumer can pull the key out of the ignition while the vehicle is in gear.the consumer stated when he started the vehicle the transmission was in foward gear, the consumer had to take it out of reverse , then shift it back into reverse in order to back out.

Car doesn't always start when i turn the key in the ignition.takes a few seconds to turn over.driver side mirror shakes.the numbers on the radio buttons have rubbed off.rear defrost doesn't always work.rotors are always wearing out.used to hear a clunking noise every time i turned the steering wheel - had the steering rack replaced.interior dome light falls off.

My car refused to start or died while on the fwyon more than one occasion. Everything worked (lights, radio), but the engine wouldn't "turn over." ck engine light on- tow-truck driver couldn't start. Towed to dealer. Gm service could never figure out the problem- mulitple electrical problems- put through diagnostic tests-computer module replaced and deterrent module needs replacing- car "thinks" its being stolen, so it cuts off the fuel pump.(2)signal lights and emergency signal some times stop working. Dealer always unable to figure out how to permanently fix the defect. Cost between extended warranty and my pocket 13k plus. Finally fed up with gm-the dealer-inability to fix the problems x 1.5 years traded the car in. Will never by a gm product!

My 2001 oldsmobile alero will not "turn over". Mechanic says anti-theft is keeping me from steeling my car. Both keyless entries will not work. Has not started for 6 days. Still will not start. Closest oldsmobile dealership over 30 miles away. Afraid of what it will cost to fix. This is frustrating. Turn signals are fixed but would only work when they wanted to. I had them repaired last year.

Ignition system failure is making me crazy i have talked to several mechanics about this and am told this is common where is the recall!i am tired of missing work due to this issue. Thiswill be the last g.m. Car i will ever own.

Lock cylinder needs replacing. Car will not start.

Security light, anti-theft device.

(1)my car refused to start one friday while i was trying to leave work. Everything worked (lights, radio), but the engine wouldn't "turn over." couldn't start saturday, tow-truck driver couldn't start monday. Call from service center tuesday, car started when tech tried, put through diagnostic tests, nothing found wrong. Three weeks later, same thing happened. Car starts again at service center. Technician tells me the theft deterrent module needs replacing. Car "thinks" its being stolen, so it cuts off the fuel pump. Motion of being put on tow truck probably causes shortage. Cost $400+(2)signal lights some times stop working for several hours.

1. Security lights flashes2. Then when i turn off my car and go to turn it off it will not start it is because of the passlock system no work..which cause my car to not work and be to be stuck where i am!! and i am a under female in college, so this worries me that one day my car will not start and i am going to get hurt or kidnapped!3. Nothing!! i have to do something weird with letting car sit for a while for it to work..so i am not safe!this has happened about 3 times now!

On several different occasions security light remains on during the duration of driving. When we try to start the car, the security light flashes and the car won't start. Oldsmobile roadside assistance recomends leaving the key in the on position until the security light stops flashing, taking the key out for 30 seconds, and then trying to start it again. This normally fixes the problem temporarily. However, when you have small children in the car, it becomes a real hazard to be waiting for your vehicle to start. I've contacted the dealer and they say that there is no recall to fix this problem.

The consumer was able to start the vehicle, however, it will not continue to run. The ignition switch/theft deterrent needed to be replaced, per the dealer.

Three times my vehicle would not start. It was towed into caldwell, ohio dealership and they could find nothing wrong with it. It started when it got there. Three days later in latrobe, pa. Same thing. Car placed with arnold palmer motors. Fixed with new programming and new computer chip. Two days later, same problem in cambridge, ohio. Finally fixed at dunning motors. My cost: over 500 dollars.

2001 oldsmobile alero - defective theft deterrent system: i have owned this car 2 years and have had to get the ignition replaced 3 times because the theft deterrent system keeps periodically believing that the car is being "stolen" and shuts the car down. Most times, you can't get the ignition key to even turn in the ignition. At other times, the starter just turns over but won't crank. Not to mention that each time this has happened, the expense involved in having to get the car towed to the oldsmobile dealership, as well as the inconvenience of having your car running fine one moment and suddenly, with no warning whatsoever, having your car completely shut down. Oldsmobile, gm, or somebody needs to recall these cars and fix this defective theft deterrent system.

Car turns over but will not start. It has left me stranded 3 times so far. I have spend over a thousand dollars on parts alone, and now it is in the shop for i new fuel pump.(another $450) i have read many reports of the something happening to other people and no recall. It would really help to have a recall to save people their hard earn money on a problem that should have been fixed before the car was sold. I have been late to work many times, had to catch buses, and walk many miles because of this car. I have paid over $300 on rides to and from work just so i can pay for parts for the car to only run for a week. So please can you have a recall issued so me and countless other can have the good running car we all pay for in the first place. Thank you jarvis joyner.

While driving my 2001 oldsmobile alero, everything seemed fine until i made a left turn at a light and the car suddenly dies while driving about 25 mph.this is the very first time the car has died, period.luckily it did not happen during my 30 mile drive to work on the interstate.after several minutes of sitting in the car with the ignition off, the car dings about 6 times.no lights are on, not even the security light, (nothing that is indicative to a malfunction).it does not seem to be an electrical issue.when i took the vehicle to a friend's shop, the fuel pump tested fine.he came up with a passlock issue, and told me that if that is the actual problem it would most likely be expensive to repair.this car has driven quite well for months up until yesterday.if you let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour it will start right up but then die again within 10-15 minutes.there is no blinking security light, no diagnostics showing that anything is wrong period with the exception of a possible passlock issue.i cannot risk driving this vehicle.i am missing work because of this, on top of the fact that i will have some kind of repair cost, and not knowing exactly what the issue is, am afraid i will be taken advantage of if i go to a dealer that actually knows what the problem is.when i mention this to places i call they tell me that there is no way that the car would just die while it's in motion, almost as though it's completely unrealistic for any vehicle to stop working in normal driving conditions.i wish it were so!i wouldn't be so afraid to drive it if that were the case!at this point seems to be a costly death.

Security light starts to flash while driving - after shutting it down it will crank but not start.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when the anti-theft system was engaged. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition switch assembly activated the anti-theft system. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 142,000...updated 09/25/14 the consumer stated he is still waiting on the part. Updated 10/02/14

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated there was an extreme delayed response after turning the ignition key into the accessory on mode. The dealer stated that the ignition tumbler needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred fourteen months later. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Turning signalis not working properly.also, when puttingkey intoignition and then taking the key back outkey will be really hot. Contacted dealer ,and dealer is not willing to do anything.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. Immediately after the key was inserted into the ignition switch, the auto theft mode activated. The failure prevented the vehicle from starting and occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Consumer's 2001 olds alero has iginition switch problems.*cc

Since feb. My car has been in for repairs 4 times.i bought the car used in sept. 05 and almost immediately noticed there was a problem when the window would not roll down and the temp. Gauge went on hot (and the car was not).i took it in to the dealer and they of course found nothing wrong since the computer they use to diagnose problems wasn't registering anything. Not quite a month had passed when i started to have difficulty starting the car, a few days later the car stalled while driving in a.m. Traffic on the fwy. It was taken to the dealer again, they stated it was cpc computer had to be reprogrammed and the igniter had to be replaced. On the way home after picking up the car, it stalled again, and would not restart. Again the next day it was taken in and the ignition switch was replaced. A few weeks pass and the same problems start to occur, this time when it was there, nothing could be found. This is a potentially a very dangerous problem, this time again driving on the fwy. The car stalled, i made it to the shoulder of the road, the car again as usual would not restart, next time this happens i may not be as lucky.my car is at the dealer currently and they cannot seem to find out what is wrong. In reading other numerous complaints this obviously is a problem.who is responsible?does someone have to killed before gmc does something about this?

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed. The contact mentioned that the key had to be wiggled in order to turn the ignition switch off. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 68,000.

Intermittently consumer was unable to turn/start the vehicle due toignition switch failure. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

For the last two months turn signal randomly goes out. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the ignition switch. Vehicle has also been to other dealers, who could not fix the problem.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's ignition would not start.the security light illuminated intermittently.the vehicle was towed to the dealership and the fuel pump was replaced.the problem reoccurred three weeks later and the vehicle was towed to the dealership who determined the ignition switch needed to be replaced.the problem reoccurred three weeks later and the dealership replaced the ignition switch.

Dt:2001 oldsmobile alero.the consumer stated the security light kept coming on and the vehicle eventually shut down due to this.the vehicle has been to the dealership five times.the dealership replaced the ignition switch housing.this could go on between oneto six months before the problem happened again.the customer service line at oldsmobile continuously toldthe consumer they were looking into the problem.she has contacted the manufacturer three times.the problem started on november 14, 2003.the past two times this has occurred the security light came on while driving.the owner's manual stated at thata t this point the consumer should pull over and restart the vehicle or it will shut down while driving.

I just received a letter in the mail from oldsmobile letting me know that there is a current open recall on hazard / turn signals. I would like to file a compliant about my 2001 oldsmobile alero, because not only do my turn signals and hazards not work, but my cruise control automatically kicks off by itself all the time, i have a low tire pressure light that stays on constantly, and my radio does not work half the time. I believe there is a short in the wires of my car. This all happened at the same time my turn signals / hazards stop working also. The low tire pressure light never lets me know if i really may have a low tire (which could result in a blowout while driving, etc.) although, i've had the tires checked numerous times currently but, i am wondering since the light is on and the tire may really be low and i have a blowout, it could cause me to have an accident. Also, the same with the cruise control. If a vehicle is following too close, and the cruise kicks off, then the following vehicle may bump into my rear of my car. I would like this looked into if at all possible. Thank you very much.

We have had to replace the hub assembly on our 2001 olds alero 4 times and now the lights are back on again. Also the blinkers and drivers window work intermittently.

My car is a 2001, it has a mind of it's own , luckily the blinker, flasher issue is being recalled. My car has been doing this for quite some time. I believe that there are major electrical issues with these cars. My drivers side window works when it wants too. When i try to roll it down, it will pull down the engine and my lights will dim very low.( exterior and interior lights.) my back speakers also work whenever they want to. I am not one to listen to loud music, but it's pretty bad when only the front speakers work. I believe these cars need to be rewired. The latest problem happened about 6 months ago. The transmission lever button completely broke off. Luckily the button is still "literally" hanging in there ,but if it falls out and gets lost there is no way for me to put my car into gear or out of gear for that matter. This is very dangerous, you have to have the button to put the car into park. The dealer whom i bought the car from is not willing to help at all with any of the situations with my car. How can consumers protect themselves from companies who do not stand by their products. We pay good money for our vehicles and this is what we have to live with. Our lives being in danger.

Several problems on the 2001 oldsmobile alero that other owners seem to be having as well.turn signals went out/ gas gauge went out/ coolant gasket broke, and horn would sound randomly (had to eventually pull the fuse).

My car would leave me stranded, wouldn't start after getting wet from either rain or washing it at the car wash. All gauges, a/c speedometer,etc... Failed. I have had it serviced 3 times for the same problem from 7/2/2002 to present. Now my power window on driver's side has stopped working. And the vinyl trim on mydoors below my windows is all bubbled and coming unglued. In my opinion i was sold a "lemon" and i want to find out how to file a claim.

1) safety issue- no accident yet, but my 2001 alero has a small rod that sticks out in front of the drivers seat for the seat to move forward and backward.the problem is when i was wearing a pair of nike shoes that have a loop on the back of the shoe got caught around this seat adjuster.scared me to death almost when i could not re-act with my right foot to hit the brakes.note: this happened while i was traveling with crusie control activated.i see this as an accident waiting to happen for somebody now, because it almost got me.2)currently this vehicle is in the shop again for electrical problems.when it rains the instrument panel goes crazy.currently they think that there may be a moisture problem around the sun roof, so they are ordering parts to totally replace the sun roof, but i dodn't think that is the problem.i have never had one drop of water drop on me with that sun roof, nor have i seen any wet spots around the roof liner. They have replaced the main computer under the hood, and clusters in the dashboard as well.but the problem is still there, so i hope this sun roof thing cures it.but i have some serious doubts it will.

I believe it's the security system or something to do with the ignition. I'm not able to start my, all the lights on dash board come on n ac kicks on but the car won't start. When it was the only lights on was the service engine soon, trac off, security light & tire pressure light.

The contact stated that the ignition failed and caused the engine to stall while driving 55 mph. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the guardrail. The contact suffered injuries to the left shoulder and neck, which required medical attention. A police report was not filed. The driver was able to restart the engine and the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) in september of 2014; however, the part was not available for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled.after restarting the engine the vehicle operated as normal. The contact indicated that the defect had occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect but no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 160,000.

Lower intake gasket went at 70,000 both front wheel hubs went when we bought at 60000 an windows came off track alldash lights on fuel pump replaced an now head gasket is blown an heater core replaced at 80,000 now has 100,000 an is a lemon.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostics where the mechanic advised that the engine would have to be replaced. After the replacement of the engine the failure continued. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic approximately ten different times. The fuel pump was also replaced but the vehicle continued to stall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000. Updated 8/23/12 updated 09/06/2012

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed the remedy listed for nhtsa campaign number 14v400000 (electrical). The contact stated that immediately after leaving the dealer, the vehicle stalled while attempting to accelerate from a stop light. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,677.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a increase in engine rpms and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 188,000.

While driving the vehicle the car shut off while ignition was on. No warning whatsoever

Engine turns over but wont start until cranked on for a minute or more. Hazard relay clicks repeatedly.

2001 oldsmobile alero intake manifold problem.the consumer had discovered a coolant leak.the consumer stated gm issued an improved gasket to avoid future problems with the engine. The consumer believed it gm was aware of the problem why did the expense have to fall on the consumer.the power steering was replaced.

2001 oldsmobile alero 3.4l v6 - engine racing - high idle 2004-2010this has been an off and on problem the entire time i have owned the vehicle the past 6 years and might happen for 2-3 weeks and then not again for a few months.when i start my car it will be idling at 3,500 rpms or more, if i put it in drive it will go back to 1,500 rpms, but the car will start to accelerate by itself (the accelerator is not being pushed and is not stuck).it takes about 20-30 seconds if on flat ground, but the car will get up to 55mph by itself.if i am going down hill it goes even faster.if stopped at a stop light the engine sounds like it is trying to go 60mphs.sometimes the problem ceases if i shut the car off and restart, but this does not always work.i think it is highly unsafe and with all of the recent toyota problems i think this should be investigated as one of my college friends has a sister with an alero that has had the same problem.please let me know if there has been something done already or if you have heard similar complaints.thank you.

This complaint is in regards to problems my wife and i are having with our oldsmobile alero. We initially used the better business bureaus's autoline arbitration process and although the arbitrator said that the car qualified for the ohio lemon law, he thought that there may have been a misunderstanding between us and the dealer. What a joke. If you listen to the audio tape of the hearing it is obvious that general motors was aware of the problem. The following is part of the initial letter that was sent to the better business bureau since you have a restriction set on how much info can be supplied here. Please note that the car is paid for.date: 08/18/2003re: william g. Marsh2001 oldsmobile alero odometer reading = 9198possible violation of the ohio lemon lawbetter business bureau (b.b.b.) arbitration our 2001 alero has been in for repeated repairs of shaking (like dieseling) and stalling problems when the air conditioning is being turned off, as it was designed. August (2002) of last year when we were on vacation in shipshewana, indiana, this problem became very severe. Along with an oil change light that came on (without reason) at 5,454 miles, bill reset this. The following day our low tire pressure light came on at 5,580 (without reason).

My girlfriend bought a 2001 oldsmobile alero from a dealer with a 30 day warranty. The cars antifreeze mixes with the oil (head gasket) . He never fixed this and dissapeared on us. This was in march 09.i was told that i might be able to contact gm and they might be able to fix this problem. I've read online that this car was recalled because of numerous problems.please contact me kema, cornell thanks.

01 alero will turn over but not start. First incident was in 2006 replaced fuel pump and fuel filter. Some days it will start others it will not. It also has died while driving twice. Once on the highway and once in town. I was driving across the street with my son and the car died luckily i coasted out of the line of traffic. For the past week it has only started once out of multiple attempts to start it. It shows cam sensor, crank sensor, passlock, codes when diagnostics ran. Other sites have had same issue with nothing being a permanent solution to problem. Car needs to be recalled.

The consumer states that on three seperate occasions they have been left without a vehicle due to the engine throwing coolant out of the coolant resevoir, this results in an engine that was heaving and vibrating/knocking.the vehicle was losing most of its anti-freeze during the operation.on one occasion they found a leaky intake manifold gasket.consumer states that when he'd take the vehicle to get repairs, the problem was never found or there was an impression that the vehicle was okay.also, the consumer states that the cooling system is designed in a way that air bubbles cannot be bled outand would like his money back.*scc

*sc

One month after purchasing the vehicle i had it back at the dealer for seatbelt not retracting properly.the buttons keep breaking off. Had the rear defroster replaced, the a/c had to be fixed, the brakes and rotors replaced, turn signal switch had to be replaced. The gas gauge currently is not working. There has been so many repairs on this vehicle i can't keep track any more. Continue to have a problem with the car shaking when i have been driving it for a while. Dealer acknowledges there is a problem but has no idea what is causing it. This car is my worst nightmare. I have been to the dealer so many times i lost count.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated was driving 40 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure was experienced numerous times when driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the fuel filter, battery, ignition switch and starter were replaced. The computer was reset but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnosis but was unable to locate a failure code. The vehicle continued to stall. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 143,000.

The intake gasket of the consumer's 2001 oldsmobile alero leaked antifreeze.the intake manifold was designed improperly.the gasket leaked anti freeze into the oil, oil senders and the coils. *sc

Engine:engine cooling coolant leaks when car is idle.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where he was advised the vehicle was not responding because the security system was under the impression the vehicle was stolen. The contact advised the failure would occur intermittently and when doing so, the security warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. In addition, when sitting idle with the engine running, the vehicle would occasionally stall. The vehicle had not yet been taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The failure mileage was 135,000 and the current mileage was 136,000.

2001 oldsmobile alero ignition switch.*mwthe consumer stated the ignition switch was replaced in november 2010, due to the vehicle stalling when placed in reverse. Also, none of the gauges and dash lights worked, the fuel pressure regulator and head gasket were replaced.

4/18/05: lower intake leaking badly, replaced lower intake gaskets & cleaned all parts under warranty. Coolant in oil.6/24/06: advised that coolant leaking into oil again. Advised of need to replace upper intakeand valve cover gaskets.

I have a 2001 oldsmobile alero gls.the car is less than 3 years old and has less than 40,000 miles on it.i noticed that the coolant light kept going on.i looked under the car initially and did not see any leakage.i added 50/50 dex-cool to the resevoir.all was well for about two weeks.then the light came on again.this continued for the next month.i started noticing leakage.after reviewing where the leakage is coming from, i have determined that it is right abive where the thermostat where there is a bolt that attaches the intake manifold to the engine.

Failure of intake manifold resulted in coolant leaking into the engine after only 40,000 miles, i am finding this is a common problem often resulting in engine failure.

Our 2001 alero had the lower manifold gasket fail at 64000 miles, the gasket was replaced at a cost of $562.00. The shop tells me that this is a very common problem with this engine. There were three 3400's in the shop the same day mine was repaired.

My 2001 oldsmobile alero has been intermittently stalling since april 2006.i have had my car diagnosed by 3 mechanics all of which can find nothing wrong via their diagnostic machines. Before taking it to gm.gm hooked the car up to their diagnostics machine and drove it for 20 miles overnight and said they could notfind the problem.this is very dangerous because i do not know when the car is going to stall.unfortunately i am unable to drive the car on the highway for these reasons, it could stall and i could be killed by someone going fast and running into the back of me.i only drive the car locally in the city in which i live.

Dt:loss of antifreeze on a gm v6 engine is due to the failure of an intake manifold gasket.consumer took the vehicle to a service department and had the problem fixed.it happens on the same vehicle every 60,000 miles. Engine failure is a safety concern.*sb

My engine coolant, on my 2001 olds alero, has been going down for the last 18 months.i have refilled the coolant container 3 times.when i checked it again about 1 week ago there was gel like substance in the coolant.i checked with several mechanics, all of whom said my intake manifold gaskets are leaking and oil is getting into the engine coolant, that i need to have the gaskets replaced and the engine flushed which would cost me $900.i then found out generals motors has known about this problem for at least 2 years because they replaced the defective part in new cars beginning in 2004.canada has a class action law suit against general motors for this same problem.so far gm has done nothing about fixing my car.

My girlfriend bought a 2001 oldsmobile alero from a dealer with a 30 day warranty. The cars antifreeze mixes with the oil (head gasket) . He never fixed this and dissapeared on us. On wednesday, feb 8, 2006 three lights came on in my car at the same time. They are 'service vehicle soon, trac off, & anti-lock'. These lights have continued coming on since. Week before these lights had came on.i had new hub bearings put on my car. Then once this was done about 3-4 days later these lights came. I have taken two 3 garages to have this looked at and theywhich they have puta computer hooked up to my car to check for any codes while the lights were on. There were no codes showing for my car. Yesterday, tuesday, feb 14, 2006, i was coming to a stop at a stop sign when i heard a grinding noise which i was pressing the brake in and was able to stop with two pumps to the barkes.came to a stop. . if there were to be someone ahead of me i would have rear-ended this person or maybe even rolled right into oncoming traffic in the intersection. As i surf this web sit i find they same problems other people had or having the same similar problems with their gm vehicles recently.i was given an 800 number to check for recalls i just called and there was no recall of this sort listed for this vehicle. This is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed. It seems off that know five people, including myself, in the same place of work have the same problems with their gm vehicle and only one was covered. This is an expensive item to be replaced and since it is a safety concern for all involved, this problem should be covered under a recall and not out of our pocket. *ca

Problems with high engine idles and shifting through all the gears. *mr this would occasionally occur when the vehicle was started from a cold engine.the transmission was shifted into drive and without the consumers foot on the gas pedal, the vehicle shifted through all the gears.the enginedisplayed a loud rumble sound.when the consumers foot was taken off of the accelerator it shifted forward.a connector was replaced which appeared to be the problem.the symptoms later appeared.a broken wire was replaced in the harness connector. *sc

I have a 2001 alero and i am experiencing problems with my intake gasket leaking, and continual problems with my wheel hub bearing.

I bought the call on 7/31/01 and it broke down on me 8/6/01.the engine was repaired by yark and returned to me on 8/14/01, on 8/16/01 yarks called me and asked me to return my car that oldsmobile called them and said the valve springs were defective and that they suggest to change the rest of the valve springs in my new car.i dropped my car off on 8/17/01 and i just received a call that my car once again is ready for me to pick-up.i have talked the yarks general manager and the service director about how unhappy i am about my car.to me my car is not new any more, it's more of a used car since the engine had to be fixed.the car was built in a air conditioned building on an assembly line-that is a new car.my car was build in an assembly line but has been reworked (repaired) in a garage.i understand anything man made is not perfect, but i believe that we have to stand behind our work.my car only had 383 miles when a valve spring broke and caused major problems.i make my first car payment on my "new" car next week and i have only had it in my position for a total of 8-9 days.it's notgoing to feel like a new car anymore.i don't feel like i can depend on this car.i guess what i would like and i'm in the process of doing is trying to talk to a gm regional sales rep. About my problem and to see what we can do.anyhow this is my report.thanks for taking the time to review my situation.sincerely, [xxx]. Parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My car would turn over, but wasn't getting any fuel to the engine. The service engine soon light came on and there had to be code stored in the computer, but the dealer couldn't find a problem with the engine.they also ran my battery down attempting to start the car the first time and first diagnosed it as a dead battery.then the dealer "diagnosed" it as a problem with the oe alarm and that it needed resetting.then three days after it was "repaired" it did the same thing and yet again it was towed to the same dealer and diagnosed and repaired the same way as the first time again.the problem i have is that if it ever failled to restart in an emergency or in dangerous place, that it could cause and injury/death and serious damage. If this problem just now happened twice within two weeks and i've had the car 2.5 years, then that should tell the dealer that there is a problem.

2001 alero gl had problems with the computer, cruise control, and the floor was leaking.***no answer required***. *mrthe vehicle consumed excessive amounts of gas, the vehicle only got 208 mile per tank of gas.the rear defroster works intermittently.the abs light, traction light and service engine light illuminated at the same time.when this happened the vehicle lost traction and abs brakes.on two occasion this failure caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle.the rear seat slid forward when the brakes were applied abruptly.

Low tire pressure light has had to be reset 3 times, car handles bad on the road and now service engine soon light is on. (part ordered).

I've had numerous problems with this car from time of purchase. I have 9 pages that lists the defects of this. I would never recommend anyone buy this car. I didn't list the electrical problems i've had from rear lights not working, dome light fell off, blinker stopped working. Windows making a crackling noise when rolling up or down, and doors jamming for no reason.i didn't want problems with my vehicle that is why i purchased a new one, but i still have major defects! the issue with the engine taking a while to finally start, has never been fixed.

Vehicle will shut off at any speed/ at any time, and without any warning to consumer. Contacted dealer, and the dealer can not find cause of problem.

Fuel sending unit was not registering the proper amount of fuel, and vehicle cut off while driving on highway. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Vehicle stalls at any time/any speed. Vehicle has been taken to dealer numerous times, fuel tank assembly was replaced, it did not remedy the problem.

Since my purchase of this vehicle in october of 2003, i have been disabled numerous times.engine just quits. Low trac light comes on and engine shuts down. Vehicle has been to dealership number of times and they say nothing is wrong.i do plenty of thruway driving and now coasting off to the sides.also brakes grind when it is wet outside.

When in drive and stopped at a traffic light, the car almost stalls out.on two occasions the car completely stalled and did not start the first time. I took it into the dealership where i bought the car and they tried to sell me the 30,000 miles service pack.i refused to pay over 300 hundred dollars for that.they said they would check the car again and called me back to let me know that it looked like my fuel injectors were a little clogged. So i had the fuel injection cleaning done.well the car still runs the same, almost stalling and it seems worse. I called the dealship and told them and they just gave mean answer,"bring it in". So my problem still is not resolved. I have also heard that there may be a recall on the catalyic converter.

Defective intake manifold gasket discovered on 4/8/05. Coolant leak to the outsideof vehicle.

While driving consumer turned on the heat and the defogger, and both failed to come on properly. Consumer smelled an odor coming from the vents. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer, and mechanicdetermined that the intake manifold was leaking and needed to be replaced....

Lower intake gasket leaking coolant. Found during routine maintenance.

A defect on a 2001 oldsmobile alero. No safety defect listed.

Failure of intake manifold resulted in coolant leaking into the engine after only 40,000 miles, i am finding this is a common problem often resulting in engine failure.

I purchased a used 2001 oldsmobile alero in december 2003 with 41,805 miles.after having the car for only two months i noticed a puddle of coolant under the car, itook it back to the dealer i purchased it from where i was told that it was leaking from the intake manifold and that my warranty would not cover it due to it being a gasket.i also was informed that my water pump was leaking.i learned through research that this is a very common problem with gm vehicles so i contacted gm and was told that i had to take it to a gm dealer to have it diagnosed (i purchased it from a honda dealer and gm wouldn't take their diagnosis) to see if gm would assist in the repair.i took the car to a gm dealer and they confirmed the problem was the leaking intake manifold gasket and was told that gm would not be of any assistance with the cost of the repair.i was also informed that i would owe the gm dealer $30 for the diagnostic test (which gm also declined to cover) to find the problem; i was never told up front that they would charge me for the test and basically the test was not required since i (and gm) already knew what the problem was and was told by them to take it to a gm dealer for consideration for assistance.i have read hundreds (if not thousands) of complaints against gm for the same problem and also internal service bulletins from gm indicating that they were well aware of the problem with the intake manifold gasket.this is a very costly repair (between $800 and $900 dollars)for only owning the car for two months.

The coolant in my alero started leaking and there was no heat in the interior. It was determined that my intake manifold gasket was deteriorated. The part was replaced and was not kept.

Dt*: the contact stated coolant is leaking out at the intake manifold gasket causing the engine to overheat.the dealership determined the intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced.the manufacturer has been alerted.

Trim is peeling on doors and on dash.

While traveling about 40mph onhighway a pebble hitair conditioner condensor.freon leak out of air conditioner which was located underneath the vehicle.

*sc

Consumer states the instructions for using a jack are confusing and could pose a potential safety hazard, which could cause vehicle to fall, consumer states the instrusctions state to position the jack and raise the jacks head until it fits firmly into the notch in the vehicles frame nearest the flat tire, however there are two holes in the unit box and this vehicle does not have a frame, the diagram says an 18 inch hole but consumers jack will not fit.

The key can be removed while in drive. My turn signals go out on me.

Turn signal intermittent and safety flashers inoperative at same time.doesn't matter if it's in motion, stationary, on city street, highway, etc., happens approx. 5 minutes after being used.i took my car to a local station and they couldn't repair it due to intermittent problem at first.took to different service repair and they knew immediately of the recall and said it needed a 4 way flasher switch assembly, and to take it to my local gm dealer for repair and when i did, they declined it..!!recall:nhtsa campaign #14v400000.immediately after i bought this car from the dealership, prostrollo auto mall, madison, sd..i had this problem...it came with the car, shouldn't this have been fixed by the dealership before the sale..?

Intermittent turn signals. When the turn signals quit you can move the 4-ways or hazards switch and the signals will work again. The hazards switch is faulty. There is a recall for 2000/2001 alero's however my vin number is not included in the recall although i have the same problem addressed in the recall.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the turn signals and hazard lamps malfunctioned intermittently. The contact believed that the failure was directly related to nhtsa campaign number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,285.

The safety hazard switch as well as the turning signal switch is not working properly on my 2001 oldsmobile alero.i later found out that there was a recall for this problem. I contacted the gm dealership and the told me " since your car is over 100,000 miles and it's showing that the car was repaired once with same incident with the previous owner, that they could not assist the problem". I have had the signal switch replaced, later to find out that wasn't the problem ( which cost $150). I feel that this is a very big safety hazard for me and my small child because this could result in a injury crash if someone runs into the back of me, please help.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The vehicle was remedied for recall nhtsa campaign number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting). The contact stated both of the turn signals on the vehicle come on sporadically. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic but the cause of failure had not been diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000. The current mileage was 92,000.

We have the same problem as gm recall 03043 for 2001 oldsmobile alero models, but are told our vin is not included in the recall.why?we have a 2001 oldsmobile alero.turn signals are intermittently inoperative.directly related to the hazard warning lights.if you mess with the hazards, turning on and off, you maybe might get your turn signals to work intermittently.this is what the recall is directly about, but when our vin is entered into recall data base, it says no recalls for this vin.doesn't make sense to us.very dangerous to drive without turn signals.please advise.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Hazard switch failed resulting in turn signals also not working. Part was replaced in 2004 under recall id 34013 but replacement part has failed.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the turn signals and hazard lights intermittently stopped working. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined not to be included in nhtsa campaign number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

Blinkers intermittently work.every time i take it in for diagnosis and repair the blinkers work just fine and i can't get them to not work. Normally they will work immediately after turning on engine, then after a few turns stop working.other times they will not work at all upon turning on engine.when the problem first began, i could turn on the left and right signal a few times and then the blinkers would work.now it has gotten so bad this no longer works.my vin falls just outside the recall number c258800 so a dealer is working with me to see if they can get it covered.this is a serious safety risk to yourself and other drivers!i have learned that the flasher assembly is generally what needs to be replaced which about $40.00 plus tax and labor.i have also heard that the multi function switch generally needs to be replaced with the flasher assembly as they both are connected to the blinker system.another issue could include the body control module which needs to be done at the dealer because certain codes need to be entered.oldsmobile needs to include more vins in this recall.i hope this complaint helps others.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero.when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, she noticed that the engine would turn; however, the vehicle would not start.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the contact also noticed that the turn signals began to make a buzzing sound.the current mileage was 123,000 and failure mileage was 63,000.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when she noticed that the turn signals and hazard lights would not illuminate. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch) that could have been related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.updated 01/15/13*ljupdated 1/23/2013

I pressed the hazard button in the dash and the button receded into the dashboard.the lights were flashing.pressed again to turn them off.the button has fallen out of the hole into the dash and is, of course, impossible to retrieve.so now i have no hazard lights.lets hope i don' t need them.

My 2001 oldsmobile alero had numerous failures of the turn signals and hazard warning flasher.both systems either worked or failed simultaneously.the failures appeared to be random, i.e., there was no particular pattern.i became aware of a recall (nhtsa:03v327000) and contacted the manufacturer, who informed me that my vehicle isn't one affected based on its vin.

I recently read of the hazard light/turn signal recall on 2001 oldsmobile aleros.my vehicle has this defect and is a serious safety concern.i contacted oldsmobile and was told that my vehicle even though it has this effect is not covered by the recall.if they are doing a recall my vehicle should be covered considering their company has placed the life of my family in danger.

I was switching lanes and flashed my turn signal to switch lane.when i let go of the turn signal, the relay behind the hazard light button started to click like the turn signal was still on.this is an intermittent click and is not consistent.sometimes it clicks fast and sometimes it clicks slow.i found recall 03v327000 and thought this was the problem.the dealership performed this recall and the click is still occurring.i have read that there has been issues with multi-function switches in other gm vehicles which causes a clicking of the hazard light button.also, the key is getting warm when it is in the ignition.i am afraid this constant clicking of the relay will cause the turn signals from working which could result in an accident.

Hard starting. Vehicle just keeps on cranking but does not start unless you pump accelerator several times.this happens daily,-every time you attempt to start the vehicle.we also have a problem with the hazard warning switch and directional lights,-police flashed me down and gave verbal warning.

Several problems on the 2001 oldsmobile alero that other owners seem to be having as well.turn signals went out/ gas gauge went out/ coolant gasket broke, and horn would sound randomly (had to eventually pull the fuse).

This car is the worst car i have ever owned.turn signals worked intermittently.taken to dealer and garage who could not find anything wrong.researched the problem on my own and found that there were many complaints regarding this problem.obtained information to correctly repair.turn signals were repaired in 2003.it took until march, 2004 to receive a recall notice regarding this problem.since repair of my turn signals, my fan does not work on the one or two marking.my low tire pressure light comes on at random even though the tire pressure is adequate.brakes and rotors repaired every year.my car is difficult to start on many occasions and fails to start on the first try.wheel bearings and sensors had to be replaced in both of my front tires.at times, when i turn the ignition off, you can hear a low grinding noise.air comes in on the driver door where the electrical switches are located to operate the window.i have never had to deal with so many problems.what can be done to take care of the customers and to correct these problems?gas mileage is terrible.our van gets better gas mileage than this vehicle.

The turn signals intermittently quit working.i pulled and replaced the fuse thinking it could be burned out, but it still happens.

My turn signals and hazard lights have intermittently been completely ceasing to work.this comes and goes, but sometimes will be temporarily remedied if i push the hazard button and then release it.in researching nhtsa, i found nhtsa recall 03v327000 which perfectly mirrors the symptoms i am having.unfortunately, when i contacted gm regarding the recall, they said my vin does not fall within the range.i feel this failure is related.my vin is [xxx].the file number with [xxx].at this point, they say they can't help me since my vin doesn't fall within their range associated with this recall.updated 07/12/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Consumer states that turn signal: flasher unit is not working properly, particularly in rainy days. Dealer notified.

I purchased this vehicle 24 oct 02, from a small car lot. On 25 oct 02, my turn signals failed to work. I took it in to the car lot and they put a four-way flasher in it. On 26 oct 02, it wouldn't start. I called the car salesman and he said since it was a saturday, they couldn't do anything about it until monday. After working on it for several hours, my father finally cleaned out the fuel line and got it started.on nov 6 2002, my driver side window fell down into the door as i was attempting to roll it back up. I took it to the dealership the following day and they supposedly corrected the problem. On 24 nov 02, i was driving down the interstate when all of a sudden the engine died and the "trac off" light came on.i had a roll back haul it in to a mechanic. I called the dealership and they said my one month/1,000 mi warranty had expired and they were not going to cover charges. The fuel pump was replaced at a cost of 600.00. In mar 03, my car began vibrating when i applied the brakes. I took it to a local brake shop and they put a new set of rotors on my vehicle because the old ones (from the factory) were too thin to be resurfaced.in jun 03, i took my vehicle backfor the same problem and it was corrected in the same way, with new rotors.in may 04, my window fell back down into my door.my father glued the piece back on that had broken loose.on jul 8 04, i took my vehicle to a local oldsmobile dealership to have the brakes repaired.the rotors had to be resurfaced and new pads were installed.also, on 21 jul 04, i took my vehicle to the same dealership to have the windows repaired.they told me it would cost $600.00 to have them fixed because there was some piece that was shattered.i then took my car to a local wreck-repair shop and the guy fixed it free of charge.he said there was only a piece that had came unglued and that the passenger side didn't even need any repairs at all.i have definitely had the most problems with my car's windows.

Signal/hazard light failures, repeatedly. They work then they do not.they do not work, then they do work. This happens intermittently and seemingly with cause or condition everytime i drive, just turn the car on, with key in ignition. It does not matter the weather, the place, driving not driving.

Dt:2001 oldsmobile alero. The consumer complainedabout p emergency hazard light and right and left turn signals problems. Turn signals did not work. Contacted gmc.,and checkedconsumer's vin, thenwas told there was no recall on thiscar.went to progressive website, the consumer'sinsurance company, andfound recalls on 2001 oldsmobile alero. Consumer just purchased my vehicle a week ago.as i was on my way home withvehicle and turn signals would not work. Would like thedealership to fix this problem.this was a safety issue.could be at fault if someone hit consumer's vehicleas it wasturning because of the turnsignals.

Turning signal continuously fails to operate without warning. Cause unknown.

Turn signals will intermittently work. Consumer needs to push emergency button to get signals to work. Contacted dealer, and the dealer has tried to fix the problem, but nothing has worked.yh

While driving 20 mph consumernoticed that the turn signals were inoperative. Consumer will contact the dealer in the near future. This information was provided by jennifer's father michael zazzaro.

Turn signals will work one time and then not the next.

Anytime the car is on, a clicking sounds come from the inside of the car as if the turn signal is on. $200 for the part and labor to change the turn signal switch. This should be recalled, for crying out loud, its a 2001. I am extremely dissatisfied with this.

Consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as mentioned in recall 03v327000 concerningturn signal failure.consumer's vehicle turn signals failed to work to warn other drivers.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

While the vehicle was parked, the consumer noticed fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle. The cause has not been determined.consumer will contact the dealer in the near future. Fuel leaked from the regulator when parked and running.a new regulator was installed. *sc

The 2001 oldsmobile alero needs to be recalled.im sure if you take a survey of its owners the majority will agree.this car has unpredictable issues and sometimes impossible diagnostics. They obviously made a mistake when making this car and they need to own up to it. This car could break down at the drop of a dime for whatever reason.

2001 oldsmobile alero ignition switch.*mwthe consumer stated the ignition switch was replaced in november 2010, due to the vehicle stalling when placed in reverse. Also, none of the gauges and dash lights worked, the fuel pressure regulator and head gasket were replaced.

Car shut down suddenly while driving on interstate at 65 mph.a few times this happened in left lane and could have resulted in serious injury. Mechanic replaced sensors (cam) after diagnostic test but car failed again after a few days. Diagnostic pointed to another sensor but the car failed again after a few days.mechanic suggests replacing ignition switch.

The vehicle is supposed to get 32 miles per gallon, however only gives 25 miles per gallon.*scc

2001 olds alero refused to start.first time it happened was in july when it turned 60,000 miles.had to have car towed and repair shop said it was a fuel filter.this time it refused to start and had to get a rental car to get home to child.car had to be towed to dealer and they think it is fuel pump but can't find anything wrong with it.they are trying to find a wire that may be broken.cost to me is all out of pocket because it was a used car.mileage is now at 74,000.

The vehicle stalled while driving.the dealership's mechanic indicated that the fuel pump failed.the problem has not been resolve.

No events led to the failure.the fuel pump failed for no reason whatsoever.the car would crank, but it would not start.the fuel pump was replaced by an independent mechanic because the car was no longer under warranty.

Fuel leakage occurs around fuel tank. Also, tilt steering lever is broken, and cruise control light does not illuminate when activated. Service the engine soon light came on four times, and testing revealed that fuel seal was defective.tilt wheel latch broke when starting the engine.

*sc

Dt*: the contact stated the service engine soon light illuminated on the dash of the vehicle.the dealership determined the filler neck was corroded which allowed gasoline to leak out.

Gasoline spilled out of the filler tube when filling up to first click-a fire hazard.

The fuel pressure regulator failed.this is a safety device that could have caused a fire.i reported the defective part to my dealer but they would not fix it at no cost because the car was over warranty by 2,000 miles. The dealer suggested to contact gm cares hotline.gm did not care they would not authorize to repair my car at no cost.i have purchased and installed the defective safety device,.

Fuel sending unit was not registering the proper amount of fuel, and vehicle cut off while driving on highway. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Several problems on the 2001 oldsmobile alero that other owners seem to be having as well.turn signals went out/ gas gauge went out/ coolant gasket broke, and horn would sound randomly (had to eventually pull the fuse).

2001 olds alero fuel sender gauge shows 1/2 tank when it's actually empty. When filled it goes to empty for days then jumps back up to full and stays there for some 200 miles before moving down. Read somewhere gm was having problem with fuel gauges but who is responsible for paying for repair? car stalled in traffic while my son's woman was pregnant with my grandchild.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The failure recurred once. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic who stated that the ignition switch, casing, and relay switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failures ceased. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign numbers: 07e021000 (fuel system) and 03v327000 (exterior lighting). Lower intake gasket went at 70,000 both front wheel hubs went when we bought at 60000 an windows came off track alldash lights on fuel pump replaced an now head gasket is blown an heater core replaced at 80,000 now has 100,000 an is a lemon.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero.the interior, hazard, and fog lights malfunctioned.the manufacturer would not repair the vehicle under nhtsa campaign id 03v327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch) because the switch was previously replaced under the same recall.the failure mileage was 89,000 and current mileage was 100,000.

Parking brake ceased to function.when engaging parking break, it does not 'stay' in position.when engaged and held up manually, the parking break works, however, it does not stay in position.nothing as of yet has been done to correct the issue (2001 gx model, 5-speed).

Picked up car 1/30/2001 on 4/9/car flat bedded in for brake problems, said it was rear park brake hanging up from rust proofing they replace both rear cables. 5/15 flat bedded again roto on rt. Glazed they replace and adjusted brakes and road tested. 6/19 going shopping with cousin was at a complete stopnext thing the car lunged into the rear of the car in front of us and i still had my foot on the brake. We we all shook up cause it was a sudden jar that we and the people the car hit we all sore from it . Again the car was flat bedded to the service department and they said there was nothing wrong with the brakes the computer said so ,and there was no way it could of happened the way i said it did.i fell very upset about the whole thing now i have a car that i've made 5payments on and when i brought it home from getting fixed that i paid 1,201.83 to fix was so scared that i got sick and now i can't even drive the car cause i so scared that the next time i may be killed in it . And now i have a car that i can't afford to traded in cause i've only just made my 5 car payment. And i'm still waiting to hear back from oldsmobile on the whole thing.

The key can be removed while in drive. My turn signals go out on me.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled and was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The transmissions on the these vehicles go out while driving on a sudden dime without warning. I was a stop sign and all of a sudden the vehicle couldn't move. This has happened to a bunch of other people.

My car will start and not follow through...i can not even begin to tell you how horrible this is...i have two small children that need to get to school and i had to quit my job because my car was not reliable...is there nothing gm could do about this...please i am begging for anything...i do not have money to fix my car and it is sitting in my driveway, just like it has been for the past 6 months...i need help...

Consumer can pull the key out of the ignition while the vehicle is in gear.the consumer stated when he started the vehicle the transmission was in foward gear, the consumer had to take it out of reverse , then shift it back into reverse in order to back out.

While traveling at 60 mph the vehicle started to shake really hard, then all the lights on the dash illuminated, driver pulled over and the vehicle died.took vehicle to a transmission specailist, and they stated that transmission needed replacing.. The transmission converter was replaced.

Consumer is unable to check transmission fluid, there is no dipstick.

Consumer is unable to check transmission fluid, there is no dipstick.

The ignition lock did not fully engage the lock function, and allowed the key to be removed without engaging the "park" function on the automatic transmission.

While drivingshifter button broke and the vehicle could not shift out of drive. Consumer stuck a screw driver where the button was to get the vehicle to shift into park. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who fixed the shifter.

Car should be in reverse to remove key.can remove in any gear.

The speed control sensor on the manual transmission failed at 68,000 miles. The engine idles at 1300 rpm. This is a safety problem and should be recalled.

Consumer stated passenger's seat belt fastened, it retracted , holding passenger tightly and the passenger was unable to release the seat belt.

No deployment of frontal air bags when vehicle was hit in front from side by a jeep cherokee. Shoulder belt did not restraint driver and driver hit the steering wheel.

I was stopped for a red light; the car behind me was coming to a stop when he was impacted by a vehicle traveling over 45 mph which forced that vehicle into my car, pushing me into the vehicle in front of me.my husband was sitting in the rear passenger seat on the left side; his seat belt shattered and released him from the seat belt causing him to hit the driver seat.i sent an email to gm motors on my concern for this issue.they have since come and looked at the car and report it is ok for this activity to take place. Gm told my husband that they are not responsible for the problem and that our insurance can cover the replacement of the belt.my concern is that i have a child.how can i be sure i will not experience this problem again but next time to my child?gm refused to comment on this concern.all oldsmobile alero 2001 owners beware; the back seat is where the law tells you is the safest for children.if this is true, why did the seat belt malfunction?i am getting rid of this car.i will not support gm products if this is the responsibility they take in this issue.which is none.

Consumer states that the driver's seat recliner adjustment latch broke making it impossible to adjust seat and operate vehicle properly.seat is stuck in straight upright position. Ts

The vehicle's passenger seat slid back and forth on the track without warning. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide any additional information.

Backing vehicle from parking spot, when applying brakes, there was a clunk. Upon driving away and applying brakes normally, braking action was noticeably less. After a closer inspection, found the left front wheel brake pad material had corroded causing separation from its backing plate. These pads are after market pads from advanced auto, had only been on the car for about 12,000 miles, and approximately 23 months. There was considerable pad remaining, but corrosion had set in, causing the pad to separate from the backing plate. The rotors are approx 5 years old, and "corroded" beyond what i call being safe to use. There is no noticeable wear to the rotors, only severe corrosion in the cooling areas. After markets parts should be required to meet durability requirements, not just physical fit and operation.

Brake problem, brakes went out onvehiclewith only40000 miles on it. Consumer contatedmanufacturer and a dealer, and she was told thatnhtsa was the one who knew the type of brakes that a vehicle needed to have.

I purchased the car on 10/09/04 with a 3mon/3,000 warranty. I have brought it into the dealership numerous times for this same complaint with no luck. They have replaced the brake pads and calipers and within a 1 week of bringing it in to the dealership my abs, trac off & service vehicle soon lights all came on.i called the dealership and made an appt and while i was driving my car at 70mph itbegan to vibrate out of control.i had three passangers in my car along with myself.i was able to get the car back in control but if i wasn't able to i would have hit the other cars on the highway. I was only able to drive the car at speeds of under 45mph on the highway. I brought the car to the dealership the next day was told that this would cost me almost $400 to be replaced (hub wheel assembly for my speed sensor).i was told that my 3/3 warranty would not cover this part.i have researched and found that numerous people have had complaints regarding this!obviously this should be a recalled part!!i spoke to the manager at bournival and he said that my warranty would not cover this part.he said that it didn't matter if it happened two days after i purchased the car!

Took car to dealer.have just turned 30k in miles.brake pulsing.told rotors need to be turned again and pads replaced.was just done at 14k miles, 1 year ago.dealer has looked at problem before, done nothing, states don't have to. *nlm

Excessive front brake wear.front wheel bearings.i purchase (2) 2001 oldsmobile aleros and within the first 24,000 miles there stated to be brake problems.it sounded as if the front wheels were always grinding.cars were taken in to dealership and we were told there was nothing wrong.my wife and i drive completely different but identical problem occurred in each vehicle. We've had to replace rotors and brake pads every 12,000 - 18,000 miles.finally when i took the vehicle into a non- dealer, to get the cruise control, traction control repaired, they replaced the front bearings and repaired the other problems.since then, no more grinding noise and the brakes don't seem to be wearing out as rapidly.both vehicles had the v-6 option, so i don't know if the problem was related to that or not.

The above problems are for the same thing at different times. The rotors on the car have gone out 3 times. The second time they went out i had to argue with oldsmobile to fix them. They tried to tell me it was my driving making them go bad. I drive interstate to and from work - no hard stops, no stop-n-go traffic. Now they have gone bad again after the 2nd time they changed them - after only 6k miles. They refuse to pay for them. When we called customer care they informed us that they used a "new tool" the last time they "fixed" my rotors - which obviously didn\\'t help. I had a cavalier for 6 years and never once had to change the rotors!! this is just factory defect they they should be liable for.

Left front wheel speed sensor shorted out. *phwhen the vehicle was turned on the check engine, abs and traction light illuminated on the dash.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the left front wheel speed sensor shorted out.the dealer replaced the left front hub kit at the consumer's expense.less than a year later the right front wheel speed sensor shorted out.the consumer was once again responsible for the cost of the repair.the consumer request reimbursement in the amount of $1601.05 for both repairs. *ca

The right front wheel bearing / anti- lock brake unit has gone bad twice in the past two years. The left front wheel bearing / anti- lock brake unit has gone bad once in the past two years. When the unit starts to fail the brakes do not work or pulse momentarily and then they work again. I have had several close calls of rear ending someone at a stop sign or red light when i depress the brake and there is no slow down for up to 2-3 seconds until the anti-lock system is shut off buy the cars computer. When i reported this to the oldsmobile dealer in painted post, new york they notified me that this was a common problem on the olds alero's. I have replaced the right front wheel bearing / anti lock brake unit twice. The left front wheel bearing / anti-lock brake unit currently needs to be replaced.

By 3000 miles the brakes on my 2001 olds alero began to make a scraping noise under normal driving conditions.the car now has 10,614 miles on it and the brakes make a scraping sound all of the time and when the abs is engaged the car comes to a metal to metal, grinding, grabbing, shaking halt.i have found no resolution with gm, weliever-martinsville, the indiana attorney general and finally arbitration with the better business bureau.their stand is simply that the car will stop.regardless of what ever is happening to the brakes at this point, the car will stop.it is within gm's specifications therefore it is "normal."if the car has gone from normal braking to scraping to grinding and grabbing what will another 6 months, a year, 2 years bring?because it is grinding metal to metal with only 10,000 miles on it does that mean that the car should have a complete brake job every 10,000 miles or less?if the brakes aren't replaced every 10,000 miles or less, how many miles before the brakes actually fail and someone is injured or killed.sound familiar?ford-firestone.i've done everything i know to do.i have turned the car back over to gm.i will not drive this car and i will not be held hostage by general motors or weliever oldsmobile.the arbitrator from the better business bureau drove my car.there were 4 of us in the car, phillip allen-bbb arbitrator, larry jones-weliever, peggy (?) bbb, and myself.the arbitrator drove during the test drive, put the car in an "emergency" stopping situation and after experiencing the grinding, shaking halt he lied on his report and said that "the problem does not exist."it is totally beyond my comprehension why a man in his position would out right lie.why the service techs and people like him won't stand up for us who are having these problems and tell gm that "hey someting is wrong with these cars."is totally beyond me.nothing about the brakes on this car is "normal" except in gm's words.

Vehicle accelerates on its own, will not respond to braking. It will accelerate for 5-7 miles before it slows down. This has happened 5 times, dealercould not findcause.vehicle at dealership at this time.

We have had to replace the hub assembly on our 2001 olds alero 4 times and now the lights are back on again. Also the blinkers and drivers window work intermittently.

While driving 70 mph the consumer's 2001 oldsmobile alero began to vibrate uncontrollably.the vehicle began to make a grinding noise.the consumer pulled over shut the vehicle off for about 10 minutes and when she restarted the vehicle the trac and abs lights illuminated. The dealer had done repairs prior to the incident. When the consumer took the vehicle to dealer she was told the speed sensor was bad and the entire hub bearing assembly would have to be replaced in order tofix the part.

I got car on 2/28/07 new brakes rotors and tires were put on car. Now i have a loud squeal and grinding in the steering wheel, and brake pedal an the warning signal says service vehicle soon traction off and antilock brake. I took it to get checked, but the mechanic can't find the problem.

Alternator failed, consumer was told this was normal because alternator was located above engine. Brakes make noise due to rotor and pad failure. Air pressure light comes on due to front tire air leak.

This car has made a terrible grinding noise for over 2 years.the pads and rotors were replaced at 24000 miles within a few month's the abs and traction control failed completely.work was done on the car replacing all of the electronic parts and sensors but the abs and traction are out again.gm response is they will "fix" the problem even though they have yet to get it done after repeated attempts.*la

The abs speed sensor malfunctioned. As a result, the anti lock and traction control sensor light stayed on.

I have a 2001 olds alero....for two years i have been having trouble with the sensor on my right front tire.the sensor caused my abs and traction control system to fail.after many attempts to get fixed it seems that my bearing was bad.on the day that i got my car fixed 5 cars between 2 dealers were getting the same problem fixed.they were all gm cars..

While driving 31 mph applied brakes andvehicle would not stop, causing arearendcrash.

While driving applied brakes and pedal went all the way to the floor, but vehicle didn't stop, resulting in an accident.

Consumer states that every 8k miles the braking system including the rotors and pads and calibers need to be replaced. Contacted dealer but they cannot remedy the problem.

When applying brakes slowly in stopping, they are not catching, brakes make a noise. This happens intermittently. Dealer contacted.

Front driver side and passenger side wheels were leaking. Dealer had been contacted for replacement wheels, but that did not remedy the problem.wheels are still leaking. Brakes make noise due to pad and rotor failure. Right front goodyear tire losing air pressure, p225/50r16, dot number 0294302.

Alternator failed, consumer was told this was normal because alternator was located above engine. Brakes make noise due to rotor and pad failure. Air pressure light comes on due to front tire air leak.

Contacted dealer and they were not willing to do anything.. Also the driver side window chatters, there was a noise in the left front wheel bearing.

I have heard through news 8 in grand rapids that alero's and grand am's have a problem with their braking system. I have pulsuing breaks at higher speeds, and they never go away. I have a friend with a new 2001 grand am that had the same problem and they.

Consumer states at 13000 miles, the steering wheel began to "shimmy" when driving. The dealer turned the rotors and replaced the pads.at 36000 miles the brakes began pulsating when driving.the dealer stated the rotors were warped.

While backing out of a parking space, steering ability had severely reduced to nil. . there was no warning in feel, just a clunk sound. After immediate stop, steering was checked again by turning steering wheel. No response in either direction. Vehicle had to be towed from area which was semi blocking traffic due to the inability to steer vehicle. Auto tech had said the sub frame holding key steering components was rusted beyond repair and had to be replaced. I had just read local news involving, a now deceased woman, hitting a school bus nearly head on while changing lanes and for some reason continued into opposite traffic while driving the same type of vehicle.

I have a 2001 alero. It has been having trouble steering intermittently. I brought it into the shop and they said it was the steering fluid gelling. It fixed my steering but still whined a little. I was driving home from work on the night stated below. I was turning to the on-ramp to the interstate and my steering completely failed. I was going about 30mph and probably 20-25mph as i was sent into the curb. The wheel that hit the curb folded under the car as the spindle broke. I was driving at the speed limit and there were no adverse conditions. I wouldn't have hit the curb if the steering hadn't gone out and even so, i don't think that at that speed that much damage should have happened. On top of all of that the air bag didn't go off. If this would have happened on the interstate (where i was heading) i would have ended up going into a ditch and flipping.

The contact was concerned that the air bag would deploy inadvertently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Avis rental, returned to sarasota fl airport. While driving consumer wanted to adjustsunvisor, it fell off and hit her on the head. This caused her to veer off to side off road.

Several failures of either front brakes or rear brakes requiring complete replacement.failure happens after less than 20,000 on each set of brakes.there has been at least 3 wheel hub replacements on driver side as well as 2 wheel hub replacements on the passenger side.both drivers window and passenger window motors have been replaced twice....

Passenger window made a screeching sound and would not roll up.when window did roll up it dropped down inside the door.regulator had to be replaced and the window was scratched.

While driving approximately 35 mph driver heard a noise coming from the front end.driver lost control of the vehicle but was able to avoid a collision.upon review, the dealer determined thatwelds were missing that connected the right front control arm to the frame.

Vehicle has been making a rubbing/squealing noise while driving, vehicle has been to two different dealers and the problem is still occurring. *jg

Strut bracket needs to be replaced on a 2 year old vehicle with under 45,000 miles.dealer was uncoorperative in resolving necessary repair.

Air conditioner didn't work from day one.blower then failed to work.starter gave out within the first year as did the ignition switch.power steering went out in the middle of a turn almost causing an accident.oil light sensor went out.power windows make crackling noise when lowering.rotars make a grinding noise when braking even with brand new rotars and brakes.factory tires would make a thumping noise as low speed braking.now front suspension is making a clicking noise.dealer has replaced the entire front end suspension and noise will not go away.

There is a grinding sound under the front of the vehicle at low speeds. The dealer was contacted and they advised that nhtsa was contacted because they have been receiving numerous reports of this occurrence. It appears to be a problem with the factory wheels but i'm not sure of this. The dealer is not attempting to repair the repair the problem because they advise that there will be a recall. They tried to repair the problem on a previous occasion by remounting the tires but this had no effect. The problem is not noticable when it is raining.

While traveling on the highwayvehicle pulls toleft and right.dealership is aware ofproblem.

Engine check lightflashed on/off while driving at any speeds. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that driver's side front hub needed to be replaced. Consumer was concerned that the wear was less then 31,000 miles.

2001 oldsmobile alero - need replacement of wheel hub assemblys on both sides with only 57,000 miles!service vehicle soon, abs and trac off lights are on all the time.absolutely the worst front suspension i've ever had in a vehicle.also 'misses' at around 2000 rpms - like it can't decide which gear to be in.bought it used from dealer and warranty is out, but working with a good mechanic to hopefully get problems fixed at my expense (dealer wanted $500 to replace each wheel hub assembly).should not be having these issues with a relatively new, well-maintained vehicle.

Front hub (drivers side) went bad at around 48,000 miles, dealer replaced under warranty. Aprox. One year later both front hubs went bad (at just over 60,000 miles with less then 12,000 miles on drivers side hub) cost was around $500.00 each to replace.

Consumer called stating that she was driving down the road and felt a really strong drop of the vehicle on the right rear tire. Which caused the vehicle two roll over a couple times. Dealer was contactedand stated that the rear right tire had came off causing real bad properly damage. Ts

Braking is not working properly, pads and calipers will easily wear down and there is a grinding nosie at low speeds, consumer has replaced the parts several times. Contacted dealer and they were not willing to do anything.. Also the driver side window chatters, there was a noise in the left front wheel bearing.

Dt*: the contact stated the front wheel bearings were defective.the bearings failed every 15,000-20,000 miles.there was a knocking noise that seemed to come from the front of the vehicle, and the vehicle did not steer properly.the dealership replaced the wheel bearings four times.tthe wheel bearing were replaced four times, the dealer replaced them 3 times, but would not replaced them the fourth times. However manufacturer and dealercould not determinewhy this was happening.

Consumer complained thatfront wheel bearinghad to be replaced three times with less then 59,000 miles on vehicle.dealer was notified.

Alternator failed, consumer was told this was normal because alternator was located above engine. Brakes make noise due to rotor and pad failure. Air pressure light comes on due to front tire air leak.

Driving at 40 mph on dry road when right rear tire came off of car causing loss of control of vehicle. Vehicle rolled over twice total loss of vehicle.on investigation it was noted that the right rear tire that had come off was still intact meaning no blow out and lug nuts were still in place but on the back side of the tire you could see where the spindle had separted from the strut housing causing the tire to come off the car.also, on the left rear of the car. That tire remained attached to the car but pulled up and away from its attachment with the same defect noted at the spindle separation from the strut housing.i have pictures of all these details and have had several certified technicians look at the car and theyhave all come up with the same consensus that the separation of this spindle from the strut housing is what made the tire come off and thus causing loss of control of the vechile and total loss of the vehicle as deemed so by the insurance company.i suffered 2 fractured ribs, a ruptured tendon of the ac joint in my left shoulder and back pain that i am currently being treated for.i am out on disability because of these injuries. I am a registered nurse.thankfully, my children were not in the car with me at the time of the accident.i fear that this might happen to someone else and lives could be lost.dt

Low tire pressure light has had to be reset 3 times, car handles bad on the road and now service engine soon light is on. (part ordered).

While driving there was a loud noise rubbing against the wheel. *nlm.

When driving the turn signals will work and then not work at random and this concerns me, it can create a serious and dangerous situation

This car was a lemon replacement/and doing the same thing/rotors are warping.

On wednesday, feb 8, 2006 three lights came on in my car at the same time.they are 'service vehicle soon, trac off, & anti-lock'.these lights have continued coming on since.i have had a computer hooked up to my car to check for any codes while the lights were on.there were no codes showing for my car. Yesterday, tuesday, feb 14, 2006, i was coming to a stop at a stop sign when the lights came on.i was pressing the brake in and i did not stop.i rolled a little bit and then came to a stop.this is not safe.if there were to be someone ahead of me i would have rear-ended this person or maybe even rolled right into oncoming traffic in the intersection.there are three other people that i work with who have had similar problems with their gm vehicles recently.only one vehicle was covered under a recall.i was given an 800 number to check for recalls from one of these people.i just called and there was no recall of this sort listed for this vehicle.this is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed.it seems off that four people, including myself, in the same place of work have the same problems with their gm vehicle and only one was covered.this is an expensive item to be replaced and since it is a safety concern for all involved, this problem should be covered under a recall and not out of our pocket.

I believe it's the security system or something to do with the ignition. I'm not able to start my, all the lights on dash board come on n ac kicks on but the car won't start. When it was the only lights on was the service engine soon, trac off, security light & tire pressure light.

Car cranks wont start it hasbto do with the an electrial system car theft maybe did the ten mint and at im still waiting to get the ignitionswitch and key the recall title n140350 do upset when i bought it in nov.the two keys i got one spareand i thought the other was an oringnal one neither have the chip so the first i had problems we got it to work a few months now again twice in a week how am i suppose get it to the dealer if i cant get it to turn on this is crazy something has to be done i read do many complaints about the same situation so what doi now thank you donna

Vehicle accelerates on its own, will not respond to braking. It will accelerate for 5-7 miles before it slows down. This has happened 5 times, dealercould not findcause.vehicle at dealership at this time.

Accelerator pedal stuck on 2001 olds alero almost causing a serious accident.

I have been having problems with the engine idling high while driving, making it possible to slow down, brakes were not working, causing me to pull over to the emergency lane, putting the car in neutral, shutting my engine off, in order to get car to stop. Mycar has been in the dealer shop where i bought it, since july 21, 2005, they said they can't find anything wrong with it, car is still under warranty, but due to not finding anything wrong with the car, they are charging me for towing fee and for doing a preferment check on the engine, out of pocket is over $100.00 to say, we can't find anything wrong.this wasn't the first time, on june 13, 2005 the same thing happen, putting it in the grange for 4 days only to say they couldn't find a thing wrong with it, i feel there is defect in the computer or idle control, as i feel this vehicle is very unsafe while driving it, not only for myself but for anyone else to be around when this occurs again.

Fuel leakage occurs around fuel tank. Also, tilt steering lever is broken, and cruise control light does not illuminate when activated. Service the engine soon light came on four times, and testing revealed that fuel seal was defective.tilt wheel latch broke when starting the engine.

Dt: the contact states that vehicle accelerates by itself even whenpress the brakes.vehicle will not stop, it still accelerates. The gm repair shop told her three times they cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle, they have the vehicle now.

*sc

Comments: on july 25, 2005 i contacted oldsmobile customer assistance center regarding service needed on my 2001 alero. I stated that it was my understanding that the speed control accelerator pedal on my vehicle was the subject of a recall by the manufacturer. I have not, however, received any notice that corrective repairs will be performed. Specifically, my vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 124, accelerator control system's is hot ambient conditions, the accelerator pedal arm may stick at the attachment to the bracket and not return to the engine idle position when i lift my foot from the accelerator pedal. As a result, failure to return to idle could result in a vehicle crash. I initially advised the dealer of this problem on may 11, 2004 and they informed me that my car required throttle body cleaning and service, which they charged $82.95. I returned the car to the dealer again on june 27, 2005 for the same problem and they performed the same service for $84.95. On july 25, 2005 i brought the car back to the dealer with the same complaint. They lubricated the throttle pivot and charged me $44.11. To date i have paid $212.01 and the dealer never informed me that a recall had been issued for this problem. I would appreciate your help in verifying if the repair should be covered by the manufacturers recall program and the exact remedy to correct this problem.

Sticking throttle concern - vehicle accelerator sticks, causing the car to continue speeding and possibly result in a crash.problem first occurred in the summer of 2004 and has reoccurred in summer of 2005.this problem occurred after throttle body cleaning and service was performed at the dealer.

Dt*: the contact stated when the inside of the vehicle was hot, the accelerator pedal would stick causing rapid acceleration.there is a nhtsa recall, # 04v528000, regarding the accelerator pedal.the year was not included in the recall.no one could duplicate the consumers concern. One of the mechanic's suggested that maybe the floor mat was in the way.updated 06/19/06.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile alero. While traveling 60 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle immediately accelerated to 80 mph and then slowed back down. When the contact stopped to get fuel, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was determined that the fuel pump failed. The failure mileage was 43,000.updated 8/21/15updated10/18/2017

While driving consumer turned on the heat and the defogger, and both failed to come on properly. Consumer smelled an odor coming from the vents. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer, and mechanicdetermined that the intake manifold was leaking and needed to be replaced....

The rear defroster did not work.

2001 oldsmobile alero, approx 105,000 miles.around the middle of january i went outside to warm up my car before work and noticed the heater blower wasn't working.have already had this replaced so thought i knew what the problem was.also noticed an electrical smell in the car, as if an electrical motor was hot, so assumed the blower motor overheated and went out.later that day checked the fuse for the blower motor- it was bad, i changed it and the heater worked.however, still noticed the electrical smell and finally associated it with the rear defogger.around march 07 the defogger quit working.noticed today on my car stats that a complaint was filed in february with a fail date of 01/17/08 where the rear defogger failed and the car actually caught fire.my car did not catch fire, but it is the same year and approximate mileage as the one that did.i'm sure these aren't the only two.please be aware of this problem and if you notice an electrical smell, get it checked out.

2001 oldmobile alero. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for recall regarding ignition switch. *tgwthe consumer stated the window regulators had to be replaced.

About a year ago, my husband and i noticed that the front drivers side window wasn't rolling up and we heard it snap. We were able to pull the window up and had it there for about 7 months until the window clips broke and the whole window fell into the door.we bought a new window and a new window regulator but now it's doing the same thing again. What is wrong with this car? this is a serious issue when living in minnesota. It's almost winter time and we don't have a working window or at least one that stays shut at all times. Should oldsmobile have to recall all windows and replace them for free? plastic clips? how would you ever think they would hold up? i'm very upset because we don't have a lot of money and these window issues are costing us a lot of money.

Driver window fell into the door when the holding clips inside the door broke off the lift mechanism.

While rolling up thewindowsconsumer heard a noise and suddenly the passenger, driver, and rear window dropped down into the frame of the windows, causing all thewindows to break. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the cause had not been determined.

Driver's side power window failed.as a result, the window was unable to come down. Dealer states that the window regulator needed to be replaced.

Around july 15, 2005 my 2001 oldsmobile alero passenger side window fell out of the channel and into the door. (the window was being rolled up and made a loud noise.when trying to roll down window again it fell into the door.)i had the window regulator replaced by a local automotive center on july 15, 2005 for a total of $231.15 parts and labor.on january 30, 2006 the driver side window was rolled down and when rolling it back up a loud noise was heard as it reached the top of the door frame.when pressing the button to roll the window back down the window fell into the door.took the car to a local automotive service center and was quoted over $400 for parts and labor for a new motor/regulator and new glass since the arms of the regulator were broke and still stuck to the glass.i have not had the driver side window fixed yet since i am trying to better understand how this could have happened to both windows in less than a year.

I have a 2001 oldsmobile alero and back in 2003, while it was still under warranty, my passanger side window regulator ceased to work.it was replaced under the warranty.this winter, however, after my extended warranty had expired, the driver side window regulator failed to work and my window is stuck and unable to go down.i was told that it would cost an excess of $400 to fix this part, which it appears, was defective in the first place.i believe that the inability to retract my window is a safety concern.if i were trapped in my car following an accident and the door would not open and the window would not open, the car could go up in flames or i could drown, etc...before help would arrive.this is a very dangerous malfunction that should be fixed by the general motors.

In the spring of 2003 my window, drivers side slid into the door jam. My boyfriend took the door off and we realized that the window regulator was bent and the plastic pieces that attach to the window to hold it up were broken. I called the dealership and was informed that it would cost $500.00 to fix it. $300.00 for the part and the rest in labor. I looked into getting a used part, so i began calling junk yards. A few had no regulators, however at fitzgeralds in lincoln de i was told that i was the 4 or 5th person to call in regards to a regulator for an alero. He stated that he could order the part wholesale and it would cost $120.00. I also began a search online and found a mechanic in ny that would fix my regulator or give me a repaired one for around $80.00, so i sent it to him. Unfortunately, the parts that he gave with the regulator were not right and when trying to install the regulator the plastic pieces broke again. The mechanic in ny send additional pieces and we were able to get the window working properly, after using some adhesive to get the window to stay attached to the regulator. The process of trying to get the window completely fixed took months. We finally got the window working around october of 2003. Now it is december 2004 and again the window is starting to slip. I believe that this is somehow a mechanical problem with the power window. Could you please look into whether or not this is indeed a recall. Thank you.

Driver's side car window rolled down but wouldn't go back up.car is 2001 olds alero 2 dr.was having problems prior to incident with the window rolling all the way down instead of just part of the way.the regulator is still making a sound so the motor is still operable for the moment but the window is off the track or the plastic pieces that hold the window are broke.what happened tossing metal.it would save headaches for everyone.

Windows regulator & power window motors both sides become inoperable, high cost of repair. Also the whole wiring system. Wires loose, get pinched by gearshift. Now the radios volume turns up with higher rpm or down at low rpm.when back window defroster is on radio crackles or completely turns off.same happens at times when putting gear into park. There is realy no incident date, this is a ongoing problem for the past 6-8 month.

I have a 2001 oldmobile alero with automatic windows.i have had to replace 3 of the 4 windows due to the motor going out causing the window to not roll up or down.i am waiting for the 4th window to break.

Customer sevice at olds advised, i was told there is no fix.no safety defec tlisted.
