Major intrusion on front end after a motor vehicle accident without air bag deployment.this occurred on the highway after sliding on ice and being hit head on by a ford f150.

[xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I was driving home from work on 8/29/06 when a vehicle struck me head-on.my airbags in my vehicle failed to deploy, although i suffered minor injuries i feel that my airbags should have deployed.i filed a complaint with nissan but have not heard anything back concerning on checking the vehicle, etc.the suv is already repaired it took approximately 2 1/2 weeks.

Vehicle hit a light pole on passenger's side near headlight, radiator pushed back about 6 inches. Neither airbag deployed. Consumer suffered neck/ back, and head injuries. Vehicle at dealership at this time, may be totalled.

While driving 45 mph, consumer was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact none of the airbags depl0yed, causing minor injuries to driver.

I was traveling at approximately 35 mph when a vehicle pulled out of a business parking lot, the vehicle failed to yield, causing me to collide with her driver door.my concern is that my airbag in my 2001 nissan xterra failed to deploy causing me to hit the steering wheel with my chest.i contacted nissan and the results were that i failed to properly decelerate; this was the cause for the failure.

While driving about 50 mph vehicle was involved in a head on collision, hitting a guardrail, and onsecond impact hitting a vehicle head-on. Upon impact, frontalair bags did not deploy.

Consumer states vehicle was involved in a frontal collision of 20-25 mph with a tree and neither air bag deployed.the dealer and the manufacturer have not been notified at this time.nlm *jg

I just purchased this car about 3 months ago and paid 4000 dollars for it. The vehicle stopped working and the fuel pump wasn't coming on. After searching for the power issue i discovered the fuel tank sending unit which is the top to the gas tank itself. Meaning the service hole of the tank access is the top part of the sending unit. The sending unit has 4 fuel line connections and 4 electrical connections. Two fuel conections and 2 electrical connections plug into the top side of the sending unit and they route through the plastic molded sending unit and connections are made in the bottom side. Basically fuel and electricity route through this unit into the tank. The power wire to the fuel pump burned and melted the conection inside the mold and burned the plastic all around the connection plug where the power goes to the gas tank. From what i understand the 00' and 02'sending units were recalled but not my 01'. This is the equivalent to riding down the road with a ticking time bomb under my children's seats. I have contacted nissan but i have gotten nowhere with them so i am reaching out to the transportation saftey authorities.

I opened case # [xxx] with nissan regarding the failure of all four window regulators in the nissan xterra i purchased from nissan of bourne (ma) in 2000 on martha's vineyard. That is where the vehicle is garaged and used and only has 67k miles on it. The windows have been acting up for quite some time (many years) now and the vehicle is primarily used only in the summer.there was a window regulator warranty extension (pu307) issued on this vehicle and there are numerous online complaints about the problem. Nissan consumer affairs has rejected the claim since it is beyond the warranty extension period even though i was never notified of the problem since it only applied to "warm weather" states. I'd like to escalate this claim to encourage nissan to pick up the cost of parts as this is a safety issue should the window get stuck in the up or down position. There are numerous online complaints about this problem.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2001 nissan xterra electrical system had a major electrical fire due to a manufacturing defect**cw**

Instrument gauge failure. Speedometer, tachometer, odometer, heat, and fuel gauges all go to zero. This occurs usually about 30 minutes after the car is running and/or the temperature is very warm outside. Suv continues to run 'normally' when this occurs, but this can be a safety hazard in not knowing your vehicle speed or fuel level when driving. Typically, the gauges return to normal after the car has not been running and parked in a 'cool' space for about an hour. There are numerous reports on the web about this, but there appears to be no solution available or acknowledgement from nissan.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan xterra. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in the driveway when it caught fire. He was able to put the fire out with a water hose. The fire department stated that it was an electrical fire. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 80,000.

Major electrical fire which destroyed the engine room harness , shorted the power transiistor in the distributor, desstroyed the hood release cable and burned the windshield washer tubing, and also multiple fuses and relays.this condition occured due to the manufacturer crushing the wiring for the left front combination light under the air filter housing against the metal body during installation at the factory.all parts retained and vehicle available for insoection vehiicle currently not running.

Car failed to start after being parked overnight. Would crank but not start. Had it diagnosed and the fuel sending unit replaced. The dead unit had a hole through it's plastic which showed a corroded electrical tab. It doesn't look like corrosion from a crack in the plastic as stated in campaign# 04v230000, but more like the electrical connection melted through the plastic, which then allowed corrosion.nissan hotline told me that the previous owner had the recall taken care of already, but couldn't say if the unit was repaired or replaced.

While driving home after purchasingenginecheck light came on.dealer was replacing fuel tank. Weak battery caused slow cranking.*et

Fuse #11 which protects the alternator/charging circut and 4wd/atp warning light circuts kept blowing. When this fuse blows the alternator stops working and the vehicle then runs off the battery. And when the battery dies 30 minutes later so does your xterra!

Nissan xterra's window regulators are faulty. I had two of mine replaced in 2 years and the third one just broke. Nissan admits that this is a common complaint but is not recalling the equipment. I am out of warranty and i will have to pay for it if i get it fixed. Every nissan xterra user has had this problem and atleast 2 window regulators have been replaced on each 2001 models. Its time nissan recalled the equipment.

While driving the vehicle on raining days the horn wont work. Dealer has inspected the vehicle and replaced the module sensor. Tsthe problem has developed again.*jg

The vehicle has had 3 brake repairs and 3 horn repairs within 27,500 miles, the vehicle drive crooked down a straight highway, it appears that the frame is bent, the right rear door is not sealed properly and it leaks it also sounds like the window is open, the driver's door rattles, the carpet on the driver's side will not stay in place, the sunroof rattles when its open and leaks when it's closed, the console box lid rattles and has never fit properly, front rotors warped, brake pads were cracked, rear brake light bulb burned out, a/c blows out hot air .nlm

There was no warning before the ignition wiring in my 2001 nissan xterra fried. The engine cut out while driving to enter the freeway. I was then told by the dealership where i purchased the vehicle that i was lucky that the xterra didn't catch on fire and it fried because of an after market alarm,it doesn't have an after market alarm its the same as when i bought it,nine months prior.they are going to fix it but i have to pay for new ignition wire. I'm still wondering why the fuses didn't break like they were suppose to, preventing this whole situation from happening.

Three of the four power windows on my 2001 nissan xterra failed.*la

1--air conditioner blowing hot air car is only 49000 miles old.2-- the driver side window motor broken- had passenger side front and rear replaced under warranty. 3--the passenger brake light broken-had driver side replaced under warranty.

While driving the vehicle caught on fire under the hood.

After the car warms up it will stall while driving and when coming to a stop to idle.sometimes it will not start immediately after stalling. This is a safety hazard and could cause an accident. We have also had multiple problems with the alignment due to the wheel bearings.

While driving, engine goes to idle mode and can't accelerate. I have to shift to neutral and back to drive to again drive normally, then problem happens again and have to do the same continuously every few miles while driving.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan xterra. The contact stated that while at a traffic light the vehicle stalled without any warnings.the vehicle engine failed to restart and as a result, the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The dealer was notified who offered no assistance.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 182,000.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan xterra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, there was a fluttering sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the exhaust manifold was fractured and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

Exhaust manifold cracks causing exhaust gases/heat into engine bay and cabin.

The xterra started missing and hesitating (engine) eventually dying and not restarting.the missing and hesitation occurred while underway on a busy 4 lane divided highway, but thankfully made it home before dying and not restarting.missing and hesitation occurred while traveling straight on and while stopped at red lights.

After several visits to nissan for numerous complaints and problems the 36,000 mile warranty had expired in the middle of fixing them. There has been a noise that they claimed first was the knock sensor, they replaced that, and now they believe it is the exhaust manifold however if it is just the gaskets they want $400.00 to replace or if it is cracked which they can't tell me for sure it's covered under the 60,000 warranty. The most upsetting thing is this problem existed before warranty expiration and they still have not fixed it. *nlm

2001 nissan xterra currently has 77, 123 miles.experiencing power window failure and crankshaft pulley failure.1. Aug 06 window failed to completely close, had to adjust with hand to close. I thought window was off track soi had dealer service window, dealer applied lubrication. Window is still failing to completely close without assistance. 2.heard noise in engine compartment took vehicle to dealer for service, dealer replaced power steering tensioner pulley noise continued to exist. I had a reputable mechanic look at vehicle and noticed that the crankshaft pulley had multiple stress fractures and dents. Vehicle scheduled to be serviced again to replace crankshaft pulley.

The thermostat and fan clutch in the cooling system of the vehicle has failed 3 times in the years i have owned my nissan. The engine will rise in temperature and because of the fan clutch and thermostat failure, the engine temperature rises to unsafe levels.

I am the original owner of a 2001 nissan xterra xe v6 3.3l engine. All maintenance done at mossy nissan is san diego. I am now having to replace the head gasket after 89000mi. Nissan does not offer any warranty for the failure of the engine gasket. This is problematic and needs to be corrected.

Both rear window regulators failed in the consumer's 2001 nissan xterra.the blower motor only blows on high.the dealer found that the blower motor resistor shorted out.the check engine light illuminated while driving.the dealer diagnosed that the thermostat had to be replaced.

Since the vehicle was purchased brand new from nissan, hot air from the engine constantly pours through the ventilation system and into the cabin area, even when the air is turned off.

When consumer drives up a hill engine will stall. Consumer has calleddealer, and dealer has not called back yet.transmission failed. The speedometer goes back and forth. Check engine light comes on due to canister leak, dealer replaced canister and valve assembly.

Exhaust manifold bolts break on nissans vg33e engine, causing dangerious exhaust gas to leak in engine compartment where it could be sucked into in cabin air intake at front of windshield i had 3 broke on the passenger side manifold.

When consumer drives up a hill engine will stall. Consumer has calleddealer, and dealer has not called back yet.transmission failed. The speedometer goes back and forth. Check engine light comes on due to canister leak, dealer replaced canister and valve assembly.

Both right and left exhaust manifolds cracked, causing exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment. The cracks were present for some time. These failures on this vehicle are very common and in my opinion very dangerous.

Passengar exhuast manifold cracked.being replaced under extended warranty but as far as i can tell this seems to happen on 10-25% of xterra's and has not been addressed by nissan.can possibly lead to exhaust entering the cabin if not detected.this is a variant of the engine that was used in older pathfinder models that suffered from this problem.nissan is aware of the problem and at a minimum advise the public on it so that they are aware of possible exhaust entering the cabin.

(1) normal vehicle operation, no special circumstances led to failure.(2) the right cylinder bank exhaust manifold failed which allowed exhaust gases to be present under the hood and drawn into the passenger compartment by the heat and air conditioningsystem of the vehicle. (3) the right cylinder bank exhaust manifold was replaced.the old part is unavailable due to this repair being covered by a vehicle service contract and the old part was retained by the dealer performing the repair.

Power window motor & regulater failure, all windows. The window motor and regulater have failed many times. Now my truck is not under warranty and failed again. Many people on many online forums also report the same problem.

Since i began ownership of my vehicle, i have had to get the air conditioning system hoses replaced 2 times. Both times, the low pressure and high pressure hoses have cracked and leaked freon. One replacement occurred less than 2 years after the initial replacement which occurred within 3 years of ownership but did occur outside of 50,000 warranty.

Consumerattempted to rotatetires, and discovered that scissor type jack will not raise vehicle enough to changetires. Consumer contacted nissan, and was told that there was nothing they could do, it was a design flaw.

The parking lights and side mount lights do not turn on when i turn on the headlights on the car at night.you cannot see the car at night unless i step on the brake and then the brake lights light up.on the inside there is no light for any of the dashboard gauges.you have to know whether or not your car is in the proper gear.you have no idea how fast you are traveling or how many rpms you are reving.you cannot read the gas gauge to know if you need to fill up soon.it is extremely dangerous to drive at night time.mr

The contact owns a 2001 nissan xterra.the vehicle was taken to be repaired under a recall.the remedy was performed by silicone spray being sprayed over the strap sending unit, which rests on the fuel pump and indicates how much fuel the vehicle is using.after having the vehicle repaired, while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stopped.the contact feels that this is a safety issue because a crash could have occurred.he feels that the repair was not fixed properly, but covered up instead.he would like the repair work investigated.the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 92,000.

My 2001 nissan xterra shuts off while in motion.also, will not start at times.overall, car has shut off or not started probably about 10 or so times.according to nissan the recall on this part was already fixed before i owned the car (i bought it preowned)....but obviously it is the same problem again therefore they have not corrected the problem at all.however, since they repaired it once they have washed their hands of it.

When pumping gas it will not cut off, indicating that tank is full. Hower, causing gas to overflow.dealercontacted.

Complaint concerns the fuel tank sending unit.my vehicle went dead on hwy 131s at 6:00 in the morning.alone and out of town. Had to be towed on flatbed. When talking with the local dealership they stated they have had to replace this part on numerous occasions.i then called my private, usual dealership i have service at and they stated they had replaced three of these in the last month.this needs recalled!!

Vehicle stalled while making a left turn from a stop out of a parking lot and would not restart.

Fuel sending unit that was replaced on 4/25/2005 due to recall of possible corrosion failure failed due to corrosion.

The consumer stated the fuel pump hanger/sender unit had a shortage within the fuel tank. The repair was made by an auto repair shop.please feel free to provide any further information.

Fuel tank sending unit failed at 38,800 miles (out of warranty). A crack forms in the unit and eventually corrosion sets in causing a short in the wiring. When this occurs, the truck stalls and you lose most of your steering and braking ability. This is a problem that has been reported since the 1999 nissan frontier according to your web site, so this appears to be a common issue with nissan trucks. It's time for an investigation and recall!

Vehicle stopped running on i-287n near mahwah, nj., post president's day blizzard. Conditions were very dangerous due to semi truck traffic and snow/ice pack in emergency lane which prevented pulling vehicle all the way off the highway. Stranded on side of the highway for several hours in below freezing cold until nj state police sent tow truck. Towed to nissan dealer, diagnosed fuel sending unit failure part #250604s415. Ten days later, part is still on back order with no idea when it will be available.

I was on my way home from work and on rt17 which is very busy around rush hour with tractor trailers and plenty of cars, all of a sudden my 2001 xterra stalled out at the stop light, then would never start again, it took 30 minutes to get the truck of the road because there was so much traffic, i had it towed to radley chevrolet because i called nissan, and they advised me my warranty ran out and it would be at least 200.00 before they could even look at it?once to the dealer which my warranty just ran out, and they said there was nothing wrong with it, so i paid the tow bill and took my car, no more than an hour later i was broke down again on the road, and had to pay another tow bill, come to find out my fuel pump was malfunctioning and that was the problem, $500.00 later i am back on the road, i could not under stand on such a new vehicle with only 37000 miles the fuel pump would go bad??????????*nlm

2001 nissan xterra - i was just getting off a busy rt. 95 and my car just turned off - no power steering, etc. I was luckily able to coast to the side of the road without causing an accident where i had to leave it overnight. Called two nissan dealerships the next day and they were unable to fit me in for two days, so i needed my xterra fixed so i took it to an independent auto shop. They said my fuel pump sending unit shorted out which in effect shorted out my fuel pump, both were replaced - $962 later.....i took it to the dealership and they were well aware of the problem (i showed them the nissan faulty part) and they referred me to nissan consumer affairs. I spoke with someone there and she investigated the problem and said they weren't in the position to reimburse me b/c the work wasn't done at the nissan dealership, she didn't know when there would be a recall....i would've had a greater chance of getting my money back if i took it to the dealership. Regardless, in the end i paid $962 for a faulty nissan part which hasn't been recalled and has the potential to cause many fatal accidents - go figure!!

While driving, the vehicle stalled the driver tried to restart, but was unable to do so. The driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the fuel pump needed replacement due to corrosion.please fill in additional information.

I was driving my 2001 xterra on interstate 495 when the car abruptly lost power and stalled while traveling 65 mph.after repeated attempts to start the car, it started after 20 minutes.i let the car run for about 15 minutes before reentering the highway.about two miles down the road the car suddenly lost power, stalled and would not restart.i had the car towed and a bad fuel pump/fuel sending unit was diagnosed.the fuel injectors were dry, as if the car had run out of gas, but i had three quarters of a tank.it is well documented on the internet on nissan owner's sites that the nissan frontier and xterras experience problems with the fuel pump sending units.the result of such failures is no gas delivery to the engine, as if the vehicle has run out of gas.the failure comes without warning and does not seem to be related to model year.it is apparent that such failures in a gas delivery system is a major safety hazard.i believe nissan is aware of the problem because in january of this year there was a national backorder for this part.*nlm

The contact owns a 2001 nissan xterra. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled without any warning. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the fuel pump sending unit was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was contacted who refused to provide any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 04v230000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

04 v 230 000/fuel sending unit:the manufacturer refused to send the dealer the recall part because the consumer moved to florida. Nissan denied the consumer the replacement of the fuel sending unit. *sc

My gas tank never shows full when it is filled.whenfill my xterra with gas, it overflows everytime unless i manually stop the process by guessing how many gallons i have put in.at that point the gas splashes out and overflows.then when i start my car. The gas gauge only shows 3/4 tank full, never completely filled.when i first bout this vehicle in october of 2000, this problem was present but the dealership could not fix it.then i read about the recall 2 years later on the internet and decided to take it in again.the second time, i took my xterra to a local nissan dealership about the recal issued by nhtsa in 2002 but theysaid my vehiclewas not part ofrecall due to vin.

Gas tank overflows when filling, no automatic shut off. *et

Refueling vehicle results in severe backsplash of fuel out of the filler tube, most likely due to inadequate vapor space venting. Refueling even at very slow rates resulted in fuel spillage. This presents an exposure hazard and possible fire hazard. Nissan corrected the problem by replacing the fual tank assembly. The replacement fuel tank has corrected the problem. However, they did not issue a recall even though other vehicles of this type possess the same problem, in addition to their pickup truck based on the same chasis. They apparently were aware of the problem, and had coded it as a "hard refueling" problem. In my opinion as a process hazard safety engineer, this problem should have resulted in the issuance of a recall.

Fuel sending unit failed at highway speeds. Was stranded 60 miles in the middle of nowhere.2001 nissan xterra se

I own a 2001 nissan xterra & it has 66,000 miles.however, since the day i bought the xterra i have known i could not walk away while putting gas in the tank because the gas does not automatically shut-off.rather, it will spill out.i just lived with this, figuring it was a "kink" i would have to live with.until i was on the nissan website & saw they had a recall on 2001 xterras for this exact issue.only one problem, the vin for my xterra is not included in the recall.while my xterra was at the victory nissan of richmond (mar 2004), for a different issue, i let both tim, service tech, & gary, service manager, know my xterra did the same thing the recall was describing.they said my xterra was not a part of the recall, but would follow up with nissan.i have not heard from victory nissan.may 14, 2004, i notified nissan hdqtrs about the issue & was told i would have to pay to have my xterra diagnosed.my complaint is nissan is aware there is an issue with the fuel tank valve on 2001 xterras & i am telling them my 2001 xterra does the same thing, but they said i would have to pay for them to diagnose my xterra.considering the huge safety issues with filling up a gas tank & it not automatically stopping, but rather spilling gas, i find it absurd nissan would expect a customer to pay $40 to $80 to diagnose if the valve needed to be replaced.especially on a model known to have an issue with its fuel tank valves.my other concern is if my 2001 xterra is doing the same thing as in the recall & was not a part of the recall, how many other 2001 xterras are out there just waiting to have a spark at the gas pump before action is taken.also, regardless of whether or not my 2001 xterra's issue is the fuel tank valve or not, this is a serious safety concern & i would think nissan would want to identify if there were other problems with the gas tanks of xterras.after all, do we need a repeat ford explore tire issue before any action is taken!

I just purchased this car about 3 months ago and paid 4000 dollars for it. The vehicle stopped working and the fuel pump wasn't coming on. The terminal strip are corrode and can't be replaced because the pump got damage by the corrosion of the terminal, now nissan do not want to replace the pump. Is not my fault that they using parts that causing those type of problem. I can't affort to pay for the pump plus labor.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan xterra. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to coast onto the shoulder where it was towed to the dealer. A diagnostic was performed which located the failure at the fuel sending unit. The contact also stated that nhtsa campaign id number: 04v230000 (fuel system, gasoline), was performed on the vehicle but the repair did not correct the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who sealed the fuel sending unit as a remedy. The failure mileage was 87,128 and the approximate current mileage was 87,130. ..updated 06/28/13 the consumer stated the recall repair failed . The vehicle was towed back to the dealer after the failure, then the part was replaced. The manufacturer refused to assist with the cost. Updated 07/2/2013

When pressing the brakes, a small woman's foot can apply equal pressure to the accelerator causing the car to move forward instead of stopping. Both pedals are positioned paralelly, only 2'1/4" appart. In my case, i had the accelerator slightly caught under the outter corner of my foot twice while pressing the brakes with no major consequences, for the gas pedal snapped out from under the foot before causing an accident. That was before the one day when it did not snap out, and the car was propelled over the shed at the end of the carport where i was parking. The rubber sole of the size 8 tennis shoes i was wearing didn't yeld the pedal to snap free before the impact.luckily, no one was hurt. My concern is something like that happening when the driver is stopping for a pedestrian, and the endangerment to one's life that a design flaw like that can cause. The nissan corp. Customer representant who took my report informed me that this is the way the car is designed and the pedals can not be readjusted to avoid double-exposure.

Three of the four power windows on my 2001 nissan xterra failed.*la

I purchased my 2001 nissan xterra in may 2004. As i was driving home i noticed how the driver's and passenger's window glass shakes badly, as if they were going to fall right out the window or break. I contacted the dealer the 2 days later and was told, they would check into it and get back to me. For the following 3 weeks we had arguments over the financing of the vehicle, which we finally resolved, but they refused to explain or offer information about the window glass. I have seen a mechanic about the situation, and was informed that the regulators for all four windows need to be replaced as they are defective. I notified the dealer and they refused to correct the problem, stating i have to pay for it myself!i would like to know if there is a recall or something that nissan is doing to repair this at minimal costs to owners! thanks!

Power window regulators have failed during and after warranty on 3 windows.*la

I bought my 2001 nissan xterra new in feb. 2001.i've had 3 window regulators replaced under warranty on my driver, passenger and rear passenger window. Now less than 10k miles later and out of warranty, both the rear driver and passenger window regulators have quit working.

I have a 2001 nissan xterra that i bought in 2002 while the windows were still working. Within two months of my purchase the two rear windows stopped working. It was not but a couple of weeks until the passenger window completely broke and slid down into my door. The drivers side goes down very slowly making a grinding noise and has to be manually rolled up. The warranty is up and it will cost me $1800 to get it fixed. I will not spend that kind of money on a poorly manufactured car after the fact that they will not recall it. I will never buy another nissan again.

Both rear window regulators failed in the consumer's 2001 nissan xterra.the blower motor only blows on high.the dealer found that the blower motor resistor shorted out.the check engine light illuminated while driving.the dealer diagnosed that the thermostat had to be replaced.

While driving at any speed, electrical window switch will not work. Consumer is unable to roll down window. Dealer notified.on one occasion the window would not go down, the other four, the windows would not go back up.jlg

On my 2001 nissan xterra, the windows are nearly inoperable on front driver and passenger sides. They started out slowly and getting stuck half the way up, it would usually take about 4 attempts to get window all the way up. This is a serious nissan problem, and according to other forums, others are having same problem.the windows need to have a recall on them, it is very aggravating to not be able to roll the windows up or down, what if your door gets hit by a car, and door is inoperable?

Within the past month, both front windows and one back window registers are all in need of replacing in my2001 x-terra, with less than 50,000 miles. And obviously it is now out of warranty.*la

I've had problems with my window regulators since they day i purchased my vehicle.for the first three months i couldn't use my front windows because the regulators were on national backorder.all my windows have not worked at some point due to this regulator problem, i think i've had it in as many as six times to get the windows looked at.i am now out of warranty and one of the windows (that i just had checked out six weeks ago) is not working.i've contacted nissan consumer affairs to find out what they'll do to compensate me....still waiting to hear back.

The mechanism to raise and lower the power windows in xterras is defective.the repair is $300-400 per window, and includes replacement of the defective part with a defective part.i was told that i should "stop driving off-road,"the dealer claimed that i "broke" the mechanism because i got dust inside the door...i'm an archaeologist...i bought the car because i have to drive off-road!two more windows are broken now, and when i checked owner groups on the internet, i found that they have devised some solutions to this problem---all solutions require the car owner to figure out how to repair the windows themselves.one guy has fixed his windows seven times! i'm embarrassed to submit this after reading the horrid problems some other people have had with their xterras, but this is an expensive problem...some of those people will certainly have this one on top of all they already have!

I have had problems with all four windows in my xterra. In all cases the window regulators had to be replaced.one repair was under warranty, and the others were not.here are the details. 1.may 1, 2002, mileage 12314.driver side window was inoperable & regulator was replaced. Power windows in my 2001 nissan xterra are breaking and will not roll up.*la

Heard a sand on glass sound when rolling up my3 of my windows and now driver, passenger and rear passenger windows do not work.

(1) my driver window began to grind when i used it. Shortly after it would not work at all.(2) currently, 3 of 4 of my window regulators do not work properly. I started to look on the net to see if others are having this problem and that is how i found this web site. Nissan never sent me anything on this issue even though they had a voluntary service campaign (pu306 & pu307). They don't consider it a danger, but i think that in the middle of a michigan winter when my windows won't go up and you have a baby in the back seat dangerous. After multiple phone calls to nissan they want me to take it into to the dealer and pay $100 for them to diagnose the problem. I don't have $100 to gamble with knowing that it may lead to not reimbursement. I am the only owner of this vehicle and nissan has always had my contact info, yet they never sent me any notice of this expired campaign.

I have a 2001 nissan xterra, purchased in july 2001.the window regular motor quit working on one of the rear windows, with less than normal use.this happened within 100 miles out of warranty.

Certain model year 2001-2002 frontier and xterra models may experience unexpected or difficult operation of windows. Primary cause is extended high temperature conditions affecting window.nissan will replace window regulator for a period of up to 5 years or vehicle in-service date or 60,000 miles which ever occurs first. My complaint is that my nissan was manufactured on nov. 2000 and i bought the vehicle injuly of 2002.it has 69,000 miles on it and since i've purchased this vehicle have noticed that windows move up and down very slowly and sometimes will only roll up half way and then i have to apply a little pressure upward to get them to roll all the way up. I do not live in a all year round high temperature, i don't know where my vehicle came from originally but i feel this is a defect in workmanship and also a safety hazard in not be able to roll windows up and down with ease.

Both front windows were coming off tract.the passenger side is completely off, and it is taped in the up position now.the driver's side window "sways" in the wind when it is partway down.i have not been able to get the window repaired yet.both windows have been temperamental for the past few weeks; sometimes going up and sometimes not.

The window regulators in all 4 windows of my 2001 xterra have all faild repeatedly.the drivers window has failed 4 times and all other windows have been replaced 3 times.now today the window regulator in the drivers side has failed again and i am 300 miles out of warranty.the dealer indicated to me that this is considered a normal wear and tear item and no longer covered.the dealer also indicated that this is a problem that nissan is aware of and something that happens "all the time" with the xterra.

It's been 1 1/2 year that i have the problem with rear windows on my nissan xterra. They can go down, but they want go up. I have two kids of 5 and 16 years old and i am little concerned what would happen if i put the windows down by mistake.i think this is very unsafe. I did contactnissan and they told me that this is not they problem. I did look online and i found that i am not the only one. This is very unsafe if i open those windows by mistake lets say in the middle of nowhere. Very unsafe!!!!! thank you!

2 window regulators are out again.since buying this car we have had them replaced 8 times.car is no longer under warranty.friend that bought same type of xterra at the same time has also replaced them 5 times.this item is obviously defective and should have been recalled and/or redesigned.now i either can't use the windows or have to pay hundreds of dollars per year to keep getting them replaced.i will never buy another nissan as long as i live because of this.never.just look through the listing here and see how many people have this exact same problem.how nissan can act like it is normal is an atrocity.

Window regulators all have been malfunctioning on my 2001 nissan xterra.

In april, both front window regulators went out in our 2001 xterra.we had both replaced for $400.00 and nissan did reimburse us the cost of the motor, not labor.then in june, both rear window regulators have gone out and we have yet to get them fix or the situation resolved with nissan.

All 4 power window regulators replaced under recall, right front failed 2 more times and was again replaced under warranty.. Then r/f power window motor failed, the motor still spun but the gear that locks into the regulator broke...nissan service said the repair would be over 400.00 to repair.i told advisor thatmotor had to be unbolted from a broken regulator 2 times and that the stress put on the motor gear when regulators continually jammed most likely was a contributing factor in the motor failure.i asked him to call nissan help desk for me and explain my situation before i had to do it..he said he would and nissan agreed to replace the motor.i am a auto mechanic with over 20 years on the job experience and manage a repair shop.i knew as well as nissan that the regulators had a definite impact on the motor failure...i wonder if a regular consumer with no knowledge of power windows systems would know to question a 400.00 charge. If not, there are many people getting taken to the bank.note:this whole process started in march of 2004 with the first replacement of all the regulators and ended oct 2004 with the replacement of the motor and 2 more regulators.

Regulators in both windows have failed in the last 8 months. Upon searching, i did not find any recall notices nor did the manufacturer notify me that there was a problem.the driver's side regulator was used quite often, but the passenger side window was rarely used and it still failed within 2 years of owning the vehicle.

Approximately one month ago after just starting my xterra, i noticed that the rear windshield wiper was on.i began to press the switch to turn the wiper off, thinking i had left if on, but realized that it was already in the off position.the wiper then began to move again, and washer fluid started to spray on the window.after several attempts to turn the switch off and on, i finally resolved to remove the fuse for the rear wiper.(this also happened prior to a heavy rainfall later in the day, preventing me from using the rear wiper.)after returning home, i reinserted the fuse, thinking it would simply reset the wiper.however, a short while after turning the engine on the next time in the car, both the wiper and washer fluid activated with the switch in the "off" position.i have found several references to similar problems in online xterra owner forums, but have not found any recall notices from nissan.

Suv has been to dealer three times due to leaking sunroof and passenger side seat belt that locks and could decapitate the passenger.

The passenger windshield washer doesn't work.i have taken the vehicle to the dealer and it worked for only a short period.the problem has not been resolved.it is very hard to drive using only the drivers side of the windshield.*la

Windshield wipers stopworking intermittently.

While driving at 55 mph on i-95right rear wheel and axle flew of car, then, consumer had no brakes, and managed to get toside of road. Consumer felt very lucky he was not killed.

Driver noticed that all four wheelshad cracks inside and outside.this caused leaks from the tiresand unbalance of the vehicle while driving. Driver took vehicle to the dealer, andmechanic determined that the wheels and tires were operating as designed, but a flaw was noticed while inspecting.

Both of my front rims cracked on my 2001 nissan xterra. Two of the four passenger side spokes and one of the driver's side spokes is starting to crack.there wasn't any impact that would have caused this.i only noticed because my brakes began squeaking after a trip with my 10yr old son.when i looked at the front rims to check the brakes, i noticed the cracks. They are aluminum 4 spoke 15"x7"rims. I found a recall nhtsa campaign id number: 03v307000.

While driving on the mass turnpike, the front wheel came off the car. This is the second time. First time, in 2013, in school parking lot, different side but also a front wheel.we bought the car used from a nissan dealership in august 2012 for my 19 year old son.the car is hardly driven as he is away in college. This car has been serviced several times for various other things and two different front wheels just coming off can not be a matter of loose lug nuts and incompetence on the part of the repair shop.i feel that something must be fundamentally wrong or faulty. I see that there were recalls years ago having to do with ball joints in this model, i can not tell from carfax reports whether this vin was ever serviced for that, and that nissan never should have resold this car without checking to see - despite the fact that this is an older car.a wheel coming off is dangerous, especially while driving at highway speeds.my son could have been killed (luckily no one was hurt).i am trying to find out whether this car was ever checked for the recall on ball joints in 2003 or ever. Doesn't the dealership have any obligation to check safety recalls before reselling cars that could be dangerous to drive? i feel that we were sold a used car that was fundamentally not safe.two different wheels fall off within 2 years of purchase - something doesn't seem legitimate here.

In 2003 there was a recall on 2000 xterra's - nhtsa id 03v307000.this recall had to do with wheels cracking.i have a 2001 xterra outside the vin range of the recall and have had 2 wheels crack in the last 16 months.no one at nissan or the local dealership will do anything about it except to sell me new wheels.

3 cracks found in the spokes of my alloy wheels on my 2001 nissan xterra. Nissan refused to replace the wheel. The current recall for cracked wheel spokes was not for the 2001 model.

While driving at 35 mph the front left wheel separated from the vehicle without warning.the vehicle rolled into a ditch but the vehicles occupants were not damaged.the manufacturer is looking into the problem and is dragging their feet.

After the car warms up it will stall while driving and when coming to a stop to idle.sometimes it will not start immediately after stalling. This is a safety hazard and could cause an accident. We have also had multiple problems with the alignment due to the wheel bearings.

Dt*: the contact stated during an oil change the mechanic noticed the driver side rear wheel was fractured.the vehicle was operating normal prior to the failure.the vehicle was taken to the dealership where a spare tire was put onto the vehicle. Updated 05/16/06.

Found cracks in two of my 2001 xterra original alloy wheels. Cracks were visible on one wheel from inside to outside. This wheel was immediately removed due to a serious safety concern. I was told by nissan that there was a recall, but did not include my vin number. Recall was primarily for 2000 models. Complaint issued to nissan consumer affairs for possible reimbursement of replacement wheels.

While driving center wheel cap fell completely off due to a missing spring clip. Please give any further details.
