Other: airbag sensors failed.

Insufficient headrest foam coverage. Foam degrades or self moves out of position to reveal internal metal frame which runs across entire headrest at point of head impact. Part does not seem serviceable for repair, and should be replaced by manufacturer with updated version.check engine light and airbag light are both triggered too easily by too many sensors, so vehicle is constantly in shop with no trouble found. Seems like it was designed by an overly-worried car manufacturer, or for the purposes of making owners feel the car needs to be replaced. It also greatly increases the likely hood of failing an annual inspection. The safety issue stems from all the blinking lights on the dash which are very distractive, especially at night, and usually completely unnecessary. In 1996, there was a recall for insufficient brake light illumination on the sentra model. Nissan's fix for this was a brighter bulb. Since my car was bought used, and the prior owner did not upgrade to the new bulbs, and there is no listing for the replacement bulbs, owner's may not know how to upgrade their brake lights. Nissan dealers do not seem to know what bulb to replace it with for better illumination. This is an obvious safety issue, as there are many 1996 nissan sentras on the road today.

Front and rear driver side seatbelt unlatched while in a crash.the css, in rear, flew out and hit the driver's seat.in turn, driver hit the windshield.please provide further information.

Electrical problem, the distributor has malfunctioned 4 times since my ownership of this vehicle. Car fails to start, with it being in the firing system this presents a fire hazard.

Cpsp: my car, a 1996 nissan sentra, lost all power while driving. No power steering, no power brakes, engine turned off. This has happened twice while driving, and numerous times when i go to start up the car and nothing happens.the consumer stated the failure was due to a faulty intermittent circuit. Updated 10/16/2017

All power lost, including engine, power brakes, and power steering while driving on city streets.cause is an electrical connector on wiring harness intermittently causing an open circuit on a power wire.in particular, the faulty connector is e104 on the hec (the back of the fuse panel in driver side compartment).failure occurs more often in hot weather.failure has occurred twice while driving, and dozens of times when parked.jiggling the connector often restores power.also, a similar power wire open circuit occurs on another connector on the same hec that causes all lighting to the instrument panel and most interior lighting to fail.failure has occured at night while driving on city streets, preventing the driver from seeing how fast they are traveling.

My 1996 nissan sentra has a defective odometer.my unit is being repaired at my expense.my complaint is that cars with faulty odometers are both a safety hazard and a consumer fraud problem.*mr

Hornworks intermittently due to faulty wiring.

The complete dash light goes out -- sometimes blinking on and off... Mostly off.this is very dangerous at night for the driver, especially because it is such a distraction with the blinking light, temporarily distoring vision.it has almost the same effect as a strobe light! nissan mechanics said nissan is fully aware of this problem but unwilling to pay for fix.totally unfair and unsafe for consumer.please make nissan accountable -- issue recall immediately.it may save a life (or more).

Vehiclewas overheating. Also, engine check light came on the dashboardpanel. Consumer took vehicle to the dealership and put on it the machine.vehicle was okay.

Air conditioner-- when i had air conditioner on the car would stall.after bringing it to several mechanics, i finally convinced one that something was wrong and he cleaned the throttle and the car has been running much better.

Consumer stated the vehicle began spewing white smoke out of the exhaust and then overheated, cosumer was informed that the head contained a crack, then in january 2002 when consumer went to start the vehicle it would not start, the vehicle was then towed to the mechanic, upon inspecting vehicle it was found that coolant was in the head gasket, an occurence which would only happen if there was a leak in the head gasket, the head, or the block, the mechanic then put new cylinder bolts on.

Valve sprocket failed.

Engine has 46,381 orignal miles, engine had been maintained properly. Engine should have not gone out at 46k miles. Are there any other reported cases of this type car/engine?do i have a claim against the dealer for a faulty engine?what are my legal rights concerning this, as i still owe $8,000.00 on the loan, through reliable credit.

Vehicle gives off rotten egg odor.

Air conditioner compressor failed, causing car to slow raipdly with total loss of power.

The air condition unit in my car makes the car not excel to the appropriate speed when the air condition is on. In order to get the right power i have to turn off the air condition unit. The passenger side door in the front is not 100% closed properly. When i was in an accident 2 years ago the driver nor passenger side airags deployed.

Dt*: the contact stated while waiting in the right lane to make a turn, the vehicle was rammed from behind.the driver from the other vehicle indicated there were no tail lights illuminated and it was not possible to notice if it was moving or not at night.the police was present at the scene, and a report was taken.there were no warning lights to alert the contact for an electrical failure.after nine years of the accident, the contact encountered anhtsa recall # 98v008000 which matched the electrical failure of the vehicle at the time of the accident.the manufacturer was contacted who informed the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.

Tail lights failed prior to recall notice causing consumer to be in a rear end collision because tail lights were not bright enough, resulting in injury to drivers neck.

This vehicle refuses to start in cold weather nissan refuses to fix the problem they were notified repeatedly and would not fix the car there solution to the problem is to pull the fuel pump fuse to prevent the defective car from flooding. We have had to replace 3 starters trying to get this car to start in the winter. This has caused loss of workandin an emergency situation this is an unreliable car in the winter.

Therewas a short circuit in tail lights.consumer started to smell smoke and noticed dashboard lights and taillights had stopped working.

Automatic shift button failed.

Nissan has made three attempts to replace a transmision and failed all times

The vehicledefective transmission malfunctioned.had a piece of metal in the transmission panmissing/loose parts which caused loss of control.dealer cannot determine problem.

Warranty ran out 3/00 - major transmission repair needed - car is 4 yr/old - never had this problem with my other vehicles.they won't even offer to pay for a portion of the repair - two other mechanics looked at the transmission leak before i took it to nissan - i was told it was a manufacturer's error - weak aluminum.

I only received a brush off at nissan - i went to an outside mechanic to fix this vehicle - i kept the transmission casing.this particular mechanic has fixed at least 10 1996 sentras - but he said the weak casing was odd in my case.i believe it is a result of poor manufacturing.consumers deserve to be sold good, safe products!i can't believe that nissan can get away with this!please respond with advice - i want to have this casing examined by experts because i think nissan puts customers off and other customers just "let it go" so nissan keeps getting away with poor manufacturing.

On at least three occasions now, after purchasing the car and picking it up one week ago, i could not shift out of the park gear to drive, without turning off the car and turning it back on several times.this has occurred in the getty gas station after getting gas as well as trying to leave a parking space.i have to continually press the button, turn the car on and off, and step on the regular brake, before the button suddenly works again.

Transmission jerking and lunged forward when putting into parked gear.

Problems with reverse gear.

The shoulder and lap belts are attached to the door and the inside of the seat. When the doors open in an accident, the seat and shoulder belts do not restrain the passenger and they are ejected. Our son was a passenger in our nephews nissan when it was rolled. He received a should strap abrasion to his neck - documented, but was ejected - pictures of the wrecked vehicle show the seat belts attached to the damaged door that is ajar. Our son received a compression fracture to his back and luxated both hips. Our concern is for the safety of others whomay be unaware that they have a problem and have no protection if they are in an accident and the doors open.

Seat belts failed in accident, causing injury.

I purchased my car in late august of 1997. Since then i have put 3 sets of new brakes on my car. My car is currently in the shop to have another set of new brakes. I just put brakes on my car on october 16, 1998, i put brakes on my car in june of 1998, and now i am doing it again (november of 1998.) the reason for my concern is because my brakes fail without warning. I will be stopping and my brakes will starting grinding. I take it to the shop and the brake pads are completely gone, and so i replace more than just the brake pads, i also must replace the rotors. Last night (november 23, 1998) i was driving down the street, barely moving, because of traffic. I stepped on my brakes they grinded badly, and i almost didn't get my car stopped. This is the most unsafe thing i can think of. Without warning my brakes don't stop. I am so unhappy with this car currently that i wish i had never bought this car. The repair shop who currently has my car has spoken with someone who works at nissan. This gentlemen has told him that he is aware that there is a problem with these cars "devouring" brakes in the manner mine is currently doing. If nissan does not look in to this problem and contact me in the near future, i will be forced to take legal actions against them, since i feel that my car is extremely unsafe to drive. On the internet other sentra owners have had same complaint, but nissan has yet to issue recall. Nosafety defect listed in summary.

The two nuts holding the throttle control cable (gas pedal linkage) became loose, causing the bolt on the cable to slide out of its slot (not hole) and the throttle would stick.i was able to repeat this on 3 occasions, but on the third managed to get to my house, pop the hood, and see the cable in the not-so-right position.locking washers would fix this and eliminate any possible injury to persons that may have auto transmissions (i had a stick, so i just pushed in the clutch when i realized what happened).

12/28/04...i was driving on 2nd ave in troy, ny, it began to snow/rain...turned on my wipers and that is when i heard a snap noise and then my drivers side windshield wiper arm seemed to be broken.i took it to my mechanic the very next morning and they said it was broken, that a plastic piece snapped off.it was a dealership item, but that it is a nissan recall item.my mechanic printed out the recall info and i went to the nissan dealer in latham, ny.i was very upset when they told me that the part is a back order part and would not be in until sometime in january of 2005.meanwhile, i have to go to work and can't drive in the rain, snow, sleet, hail.when i asked why they couldn't fedex the part the dealership in latham told me it is because it is a back-order item.i asked them if they could loan me a car due to the fact that it is a recall item.they told me they didn't know and then promised i would hear from them the same day in a little while, they had to wait on an answer from someone.i never heard back, so i called them.they said they could get me a rental car, but i had to pay for it.i was very upset because first of all, this defect is not my doing.second, i can end up with no job if i can't get to my job.that is the entire problem, no car to go to work with if it rains or snows while waiting on nissan for the part on back order.the name and address of the dealership is:nemith motor corp., route 9, box 669, latham, ny 12110. 12/28/04...i was driving on 2nd ave in troy, ny, it began to snow/rain...turned on my wipers and that is when i heard a snap noise and then my drivers side windshield wiper arm seemed to be broken.i took it to my mechanic the very next morning and they said it was broken, that a plastic piece snapped off.it was a dealership item, but that it is a nissan recall item.my mechanic printed out the recall info and i went to the nissan dealer in latham, ny.i was very upset when they told me that the part is a back order part and would not be in until sometime in january of 2005.meanwhile, i have to go to work and can't drive in the rain, snow, sleet, hail.when i asked why they couldn't fedex the part the dealership in latham told me it is because it is a back-order item.i asked them if they could loan me a car due to the fact that it is a recall item.they told me they didn't know and then promised i would hear from them the same day in a little while, they had to wait on an answer from someone.i never heard back, so i called them.they said they could get me a rental car, but i had to pay for it.i was very upset because first of all, this defect is not my doing.second, i can end up with no job if i can't get to my job.that is the entire problem, no car to go to work with if it rains or snows while waiting on nissan for the part on back order.the name and address of the dealership is:nemith motor corp., route 9, box 669, latham, ny 12110.
