Consumer was involved in an accident where the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree, both airbags deployed, however the consumer still sustained injuries, consumer feels that the airbags are useless and that they barely covered the steering wheel providing little protection.

I had nissan quest 2000, minivan, for five years. It has only 135k miles. We took good care of it and keep it well maintained. In 01/03/2012 i was picking up my kids from school, in the school parking lot i smelled something weird i thought it from outside, thin one lady waved to me that there is something wrong in my car. The smoke was start coming out of the front trunk of the car.i looked at the temperature reader, it was normal, no overheating. I turned off the car and leftwith my 4 kids.i thought it will stop smoking, but the smoke continue to increase, and we start see some fire. The school called the fire department, they were there in 3 min. They were able to control the fire but after it made a complete damage. The officer in the fire department took too many pictures, and he said they can't tell the cause of fire. I just don't understand how and why this happens, this kind of car supposed to serve for much longer than that, it has only 135k mile on it. Many people told me that could be due to malfunction or defect in manufacture. I field this complains and wish there will be investigation in this incident so nobody could have the same experience or worst. Thanks god i am safe with my children but i lost my van.

While driving 50 mph the headlightsfailed. This caused poor visibility to the consumer. The consumer took the vehicle to the mechanic to have it inspected and was told the electrical system had failed.

Back on july as i was on the hwy, set my cruise control, for the first time since i've owned my nissan, at55mph, the speedometer stopped working, my right headlight went out. Now ever since then, it has gotten worse, i have replaced the right headlight 3 times . I've noticed that when i grab the handle of the turn signal it crackles, and causes the headlights toflicker, and the odometer doesn't work when the speed control is on zero while driving.

For the fourth time in as many months, my headlight has gone out.it has yet to be the light that is the problem.it seems the connector to the light is the problem.this has happened three times on the passenger side and once on the driver's side.i could understand even two events, once on each side.four times is too many.i usually drive alone, most of the time only to and from work.however, having headlights that are not dependable is not a comfort to me.my mechanic said the supplier told him he had "lots of this particular part".this tells me that i am not the only one, i just may be the only one complaining.however, if this were your daughter would you want her driving a car that has no dependable headlights.

My car had no previous problems as could be seen.i bought it off the lot at 72,000 miles.i stopped in the left hand lane and the car just stalled.i saw black smoke and thought i was overheating but there when i looked it was not.i was at a very busy intersection with my 10 year old daughter in the car.i decided even though it wasn't overheating to take a look at the engine.when i got out under the hood was all orange from fire.it then proceeded to blow up the whole inside and it took about 10-15 mins. For the fire dept. To put the roaring fire out.i thank god we were not inside. I lost the whole entire car.

As i was driving on city street, my car started accelerating on its own. When i shifted into neutral, the rpm shot up to 4-5000. The breaks were too hard and failed to stop the car until it was in neutral. The mechanic found the origin of the problem in a faulty cruise control. Eventually the nissan dealership disconnected the cruise control. This happened last week and so far i have not experienced any other problem. Dealership believes that this was a failure of an electronic component as a normal wear and tear. I disagree, since the problem also caused the motor mounts to crack and i had to repair those.

Electrical wiring: headlights and taillights. First the passenger headlight went out. Pressing on the connector would make it work.i disassembled connector/wiring and reassembled it. It has been working. Next the driver headlight went out. Pressing on the connector will make it work. While my wife was driving another driver informed her that the tail lights where out. No blown fuses, burnt wires or connectors found. Will try to correct today.in addition i filed a complaint on the radio display which went out one week after warranty. Dealer will not cover radio.

While driving headlights intermittently failed.dealership/mechanic informed the consumer that the problem was caused by the electrical wiring system. The problem had not beenresolved.

The connection to the headlight bulb on my 2000 nissan quest is intermittent and the headlights go out.

Since april 7, 2003, i have taken my car in for a noise in the drive system.itwas supposedly fixed at that time however, i have since been back 6 additional times to fix the same problem but they created new problems.i called nissan consumer they order that the car get a new tune up although i had one in november at no charge to me.i have had my fuel injection work done 3 times since november.the car is starting to act up again with the noise in the drive system and again acting like it wants to shut off.i have had it.please send guidance as to what i could do to get rid of this lemon.

After engine is running for over 500 miles,(ie road trip)the van starts to buck and buck, engines hesitakes,no power is this a engine vapor lock problem. Dealer could find no problem with engine test machine.

Nissan quest1.0 i paid, and never reimbursed, for the cleaning of carbons deposit in part of the engine called throttle-body assembly in november 05, 2003. Mileage: 57,934.ref.: superior court for the state of california for the county of los angeles - robert meyer vs nissan north america, inc. Case no. Bc 263136.2.0 in 2006 my nissan quest started having problem to hold the idle speed at 750 rpm and the engine stop every time i am waiting at the traffic light. Mileage: 101,000.3.0 the nissan dealer couldn't reset the idle speed and stated that to fix the problem they have to charge me over $2,000 without the guarantee that the problem will be fixed.4.0 i request that nissan north america recognizes that this vehicle has a manufacturing problem and fix my vehicle without charge.

Mil light came on & flashes, there was no acceleration at all

Service engine came on @37,000 mi., warranty expired at 36,000? dealer cannot solve the problem, i have returned to shop 3 times and now left the van at the shopto see if it can be repaired.i am without a vehicle and do not know if the van is safe or not to drive.dealership does not tell me anything. I find it strange that this engine checksoon" indicator came on 1,000 mi les after warranty expired.dealership has replaced an oxygen sensor but problem continued.i am afraid to drive the van until this is resolved.

I have had to change my headlights repeatedly (going on 3rd time) and my tail light (1 time).in addition, i have problems with my accelerator pedal; it seems to stick, until i apply enough pressure then it takes off abruptly fast, had these same problems (with replacing head and tail lights and accelerator) when i had my 1993 nissan quest, but dismissed them.now i see a correlation with the 2000 quest i have now. The low profile of my quest caused my transmission pan to leak fluid, because of a dip in the road.constant problems when parking due to the front end of my quest being too low and scraping the curb.problem with heating system in the rear, only blows out cold air regardless of setting it to heat.there is a very strong gas smell when my car is running (this was also experienced in my 1993 quest)only compact incident was when my tranmission pan cracked going down the street and going down a dip in the road (not a pot hole).other than these things i have been very pleased with my purchases, very reliable but these are a few things i've noticed and hope that you will consider my concerns to further be investigated.

The radio display would go intermittent, displaying radio info only part of the time. Continual degradation in the weeks to follow.the radio display permantly does not display radio info although all radio functions work.nissan will not cover it since it started about a week after the warranty expired.

The sliding door's top pins came off the track, which resulted in the passenger sliding door dangling.only the bottom hinge was keeping the door attached to van. *mr when opened, the passenger side sliding door came out of the top tracks, leaving the door suspended only by the bottom sliding hinge.this was without warning, however, the driver side sliding door had been exhibiting symptoms of trouble with opening.the rollers in the top tracks had apparently broken off the pins.the consumer requested reimbursement of the amount of the repair cost.other problems:the radio disply was inoperative. *sc

The contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. The contact was driving at night approximately 45 mph with the headlights on. Suddenly, the headlights became inoperative. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road and then resumed without the headlights. The contact's visibility was extremely limited. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they replaced both headlight bulbs. The failure occurred again after the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable.

Both headlights will not illuminate. The problem is not the fuse as when you push the wires connected to the lights, they will illuminate. As soon as there is any vibration they go out.

The headlight plug turned black and became hot which caused the headlights to burn out frequently. *nlm

Your closed defect investigation into this matter stated that it was a defective bulb that was used until july of 1999.after both my headlight bulbs went out simultaneously in the summer of 2004, my mechanic replaced not only the bulbs, but the connectors too.guess what?my headlight bulb just melted it's connector again...in 2005... Using the "corrected" bulb indicated in your investigation.why isn't nissan and ford and their supplier correcting this problem?it is hard to go on a trip or work at night when my other light may go out before the other is fixed. It also cost about $100 to fix.

While driving home after dark, i made a stop and when i got back in my 2000 nissan quest the headlights would not go on.after several failed attempts toget them to come on and after looking at the light bulbs and realizing they were not blown out, i finally managed to get one light on to drive the short distance home.when the headlights were looked at during daylight hours, we determined that the connectors on both headlights had literally melted away.i'd like to know, since i've seen and heard othercomplaints, what nissanis doinig about this.duringthis terrible experience, i had three children in the car with me.i don't feel safe driving my minivan at night for fear of the headlights burning out again, or worse yet, causing a vehicle fire!!!

Faulty headlight assembly:the headlight assembly in the van melted due to heat and corrosion.the parts department of the dealership informed me that he had seen lots of this problem and always overstocked this part.dealer stated that i must have not replaced the boot covering correctly and it was not nissansfault i had to pay for the replacement. It happened again i got the same answer. Not nissans fault.*la

I'm the owner of 2000 nissan quest , my car starting give me a problem last month when the right side headlamp its went out [failure] , i did found out its somthing worng with the socket , if i used my hand hold the socket the light will came on. Now everynight if i have to drive at night i have to open the hood and used myhand to hold the socket so the light will come on.

While drivingheadlights failed intermittently.

While driving headlights intermittently failed.dealership/mechanic informed the consumer that the problem was caused by the electrical wiring system. The problem had not beenresolved.

The headlight bulbs continue to burn out and during the last replacement of the bulbs, the collars retaining the wiring harness crumbled in my hands.both collars look like they have been exposed to a lot of heat.then while i was trying to remove the bulb, it came back on.the wiring socket was loose and needed pressure in order to work.this too, looked like it was exposed to a lot of heat where the wires connect to the sockets.is this a design defect?

The connection to the headlight bulb on my 2000 nissan quest is intermittent and the headlights go out.

While driving headlights failed. Connector problems. *la

Gas pedal sticks causing the van to lurch forward. Headlight socket has been replaced once and again has overheated and "fried" inside component so light bulb will not work. Switch on driver side window is no longer operable. *la

The head light bulbs did not work unless the harness was adjusted. This problem occurred frequently.*sc

Consumer complained that the headlights go out intermittently while driving at night. Dealer was notified and they replaced the headlamp connectors, but the problems recurred.

Both of my headlights just stopped working at the same time.my mechanic stated the connectors melted.when he tried to obtain them from nissan, he was told they no longer are available! this makes me believe that it is indeed a safety issue if they have stopped selling the connectors.

Once my car's warranty was expired i began having problems with the "engine" so i thought.the check engine light came on and the car began running rough.i took it in and was told there was a knock sensor malfunction and a misfire in the #6 cylinder. I took it into the nissan dealership because the car completely died.i authorized the spark plugs to be replaced and the battery cable if it was necessary but was told the spark plugs are good for 100,000 miles and the battery cable was fine even though the original one split in two killing my car.i was told the knock sensor needed to be reset and my battery was dead.i am still having the rough idle so i took it in again and was told the knock sensor again had a malfunction code and the computer is telling the o2 sensors to run leaner and the o2 sensors are telling my computer to run lean.well now there is a nasty sulfur odor which in the past has meant the catalytic converter. No one knows what the heck is wrong but it still (a year later) runs rough with the occasional feeling it wants to die. I need help, i believe the catalytic and the o2 sensors are going bad.

After engine is running for over 500 miles,(ie road trip)the van starts to buck and buck, engines hesitakes,no power is this a engine vapor lock problem. Dealer could find no problem with engine test machine.

The vehicle stutters or hesitates briefly while in motion.it only occurs 3 to 4 times a month at most.however, we have complained about this to the dealership several times (a few of those times while the vehicle was under warranty) and they have found nothing.now, at 80,000 miles, the dealership is saying that it probably needs a new transmission.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. While driving, he noticed that he could not accelerate higher than 15 mph. The vehicle was taken to a repair facility and a mechanic replaced the oxygen sensor; however, the repair did not remedy the failure. The failureand currentmileages were 85402.

While vehicle was parked and the key was not placed in ignition, and with a child inside, vehicle rolled, crashing to a retainer wall. At timeparking pawl was neutral.currently, consumer does not know if pawl was moved bychild or it rolled by itself.

The van suddenly went from "park" into "reverse" after nearly 5 minutes in "park".my wife was dragged down the driveway with kids in the back seat.the van crashed into our retaining wall after my wife was thrown against a tree.

While driving about 50-55 mph, driver heard a noise and suddendly lost control of van. Van did a 360 degree turn and crashed into a median strip.problem was due to a broken axle.dealership/manufacturer were notifed about the problem. Please provide any further information.

Seat belt in middle seat keeps tightening own its own. Seat belt tightens until alot of pressure is on chest.to release pressure consumerhas to unbuckle belt.

Consumer states when pressing the gas pedal there is a major delay in acceleration. Consumer states car will suddenly lurch forward. Nlmconsumer also states brake pedal squeaks, the steering wheel whines and the front drink cup holder would not work.

While driving uphill at 45 mph consumer moved to left lane to pass a vehicle, vehicle was a bit slow passing, so consumer flooredgas pedal, but nothing happened. Suddenly vehicle started accelerating, consumer tried to brake, but brake pedal did not move. Vehicle reached 60-65 mph, consumer was able to pull into dirt road on side ofroad, used emergency brake and tuned off ignition.dealer found throttle cable had snapped, was frayed on both sides. Nissan admitted cable was installed incorrectly at factory.consumer states there was a kink in throttle cable from the factory.

Front brake pads wear unevenly and require frequent replacement.pads have been replaced 5 times in 36000 miles. *nlm

Was having vehicle serviced whenproblem withbrake pads was noticed. Had no warning that pads were thin and would need to be replaced at 15,000 miles. Contacted representative, informed consumer vehicle was heavy in front which caused pads to wear out quickly.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. While driving 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the entire front end of the vehicle and the steering wheel shook uncontrollably.the contact also stated that the steering wheel seized and veered to the right. The failure occurred on multiple occasions.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and the mechanic stated that the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced.the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel started to vibrate. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to a tire center where the tires were rotated and an alignment was performed. However, the remedy failed to repair the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

I start driving very slow out of parking space when the car accelerate by itself, reaching high speed within seconds, the brakes did not work at all, foot pedal or emergency brake. It seems that the accelerator pedalwas stuck. My foot was not in the accelerator but car continue increasing speed. I have no choice to collide against another parked car and hitting a wall where finally the car stop. Even when the car got to stop against the wall, the engine continue running accelerated until i finally shut off the engine.

We have a 2000 nissan quest minivan.we have electronic remotes to lock/unlock the doors.our 8 year old daughter, jenna, had her fingers accidently slammed in the front passenger door.theresa, the mom, was inside the car & tried to open the front passenger door to free jenna's fingers.every time theresa tried to open the door, all the doors on the van would lock & the lights would flash.finally, tony, the dad, was able to open the door from the outside and free jenna's fingers.

My nissan quest(2000 model) had paint chips on the hood after a year when the car was purchased. When we related the problem to the dealer the company inspector came out to tell us the car was just repainted and said they couldn't do anything about it and to make matters worse they didn't even have a record that the car was repainted! i was so outraged that they had the gall to lie to me! basically the car's paint was marred and it wasn't even ten years after the car was bought, and they still did nothing. I wish to warn other nissan drivers that the customer service is unreliable and should not be relied upon. That is all.

While driving 60mph steering wheel would shake.itwould be hard to control vehicle. Had taken to dealership, and was informed by mechanic that it was a tire problem. Hadtires rotated and balanced.

Nissan refused to perform investigation on this first incident when this tire blew up. The second incident was more dangerous than the first one when we were driving across the bridge. On.(tiresize: p215-70r15)

I noticed this morning that the middle thread on both driver side tires was worn to a shiny black surface.the other two tires were noticeably worn.nissan dealership told me that several quest owners have had same problem, but otherwise did not assist me.general tire provide immediate assistance and i now have replacement tires.i am concerned as my tires have been properly maintained (rotated every six thousand miles) and should not have this type of wear. After engine is running for over 500 miles,(ie road trip)the van starts to buck and buck, engines hesitakes,no power is this a engine vapor lock problem. Dealer could find no problem with engine test machine.

Consumer states when pressing the gas pedal there is a major delay in acceleration. Consumer states car will suddenly lurch forward. Nlmconsumer also states brake pedal squeaks, the steering wheel whines and the front drink cup holder would not work.

Not a safety defect that i am complaining about, but a cosmetic i guess you would say.we purchased the minivan in nov 99, by aug of 2000 we noticed cracks on the roof - the paint of the vehicle's roof is now totally peeled off and rusty the hood is cracking too.since aug 2000 we have been trying to find out how to go about having the paint repaired.we have gotten the run around from then until now.the vehicle is now out of warranty range so that is now the reason nissan claims that they cannot re-paint it.several body shops have stated and written that the van does not have primer under the paint which is why it is peeling the way it is.it is certainly not fair to any consumer regardless of what the mileage on a vehicle is that a vehicle bought new and is less than 4 yrs old needs to be repainted because of a manufacturer's defect!

Accelerator pedal sticks (mostly when starting from a stopped position) in both forward and reverse.problem is continuing to get worse as time progresses.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan quest. The contact stated that after the vehicle came to a stop, it accelerated. When the accelerator pedal was engaged the vehicle suddenly lunged forward.the failure had become progressively worse over time. Nissan was not notified about the failure when the complaint was filed. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileages were 142,000.

Consumer states when pressing the gas pedal there is a major delay in acceleration. Consumer states car will suddenly lurch forward. Nlmconsumer also states brake pedal squeaks, the steering wheel whines and the front drink cup holder would not work.

The vehicle keeps accelerating at the same speed after the consumer has stopped pushing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle has been to the dealership five times, but the dealer is unable to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan quest minivan. While driving approximately 1-2 mph approaching a traffic light the vehicle accelerated. The contact stated that he had to engage the brakes with excessive force, and the emergency brake in order to place the vehicle in neutral and stop it from accelerating. The contact stated that because of the failure he had to replace the motor mounts twice. The failure only happened intermittently when approaching a stop. The failure had been ongoing for the last year and a half.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage was 86,500.

Accelerator pedal sticks. &avery stong odor of gasoline.

Accelerator stick when taking off from a stop.when questioned dealer says vehicle needs the fuel system cleaned.

Gas pedal sticks causing the van to lurch forward. Headlight socket has been replaced once and again has overheated and "fried" inside component so light bulb will not work. Switch on driver side window is no longer operable. *la

The accelerator pedal sticks.experience to date is that it requires excessive force to press or becomes immovable when trying to depress the pedal from itsundepressed position, such as when the engine is idling while the car is not moving or rolling after one's foot has allowed the pedal to come up. I recently received a notice of class action and proposed settlement in california superior court, los angeles county (robert meyer v. Nissan north america) in which plaintiff alleged that excessive carbonous deposits form on 1999 and 2000 nissan quests in the "throttle-body asssembly" and that these deposits may cause the accelerator pedal to stick.if a defect is judged by the occurrence relative to other vehicles this seems a strong candidate.and the design defect that allows this occurrence permits an inoperable accelerator pedal which can present a serious safety issue.the class action notice received indicates that nissan was aware of the issue since at least october 2000 when it issued a technical service bulletin advising on a cleaning procedure to address the problem.apparently outside the express warranty period nissan shifts the costs of compensating for its poor, defective design to the consumer by considering it as matter of routine maintenance.i don't see anything about this in their maintenance or owners manuals received during the purchase of their product.nor, for that matter, does this problem present itself in other vehicles is which such "maintenance" is not needed.

When taking off from a stop, theaccelerator pedal is hard.the pedal did not go down andthe vehicle failed to move.

Throttle sticks whenvehicle is started. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

The speedometer jumps up and down while the car is in motion.occasionally, the speedometer stops working completely.we have complained about this before times and now the dealership says that we need to replace the speedometer assembly including cable.i was informed that it is on a nationwide back order and there are several at this dealership awaiting the same fix.is there anything anyone can do to look into the numerous electrical and mechanical issues this vehicle seems to be experiencing?

When accelerating from a stop vehicle would lurch forward, gas pedal was hard to press, took vehicle to dealer, and dealer replaced throttle to stop accelerator from sticking.

While driving 20 mphrear passenger side window blewout with a loud noise. Nissan refused to take responsibility.
