The distributor cap, ignition wires and wiring harnesses melted.vehicle declared total loss by insurance company. 8jb

Stop light fuses have blown repeatedly since 9-9-98.nissan performed a "95 quest harness campaign" recall on 12-28-98.however, the stop light fuse blew again sometime in february.i don't know exactly when because there is no warning light to alert driver to this dangerous condition.i learned of it only when an angry driver nearly rear ended me at a stop light.faulty stop lights are very dangerous since there is no warning light.on march 2, 1999 i returned the car and the company has determined they cannot find and fix the problem.they say it has nothing to do with the recall.i am to continue driving at my risk.this is a very irresponsible possition for a company to take with a potentially dangerous condition like this.

I'm brazilian and i need help, here in brazil there's no one who can help me...... Car with a backspring without strength and skidding without leaving the place, when she does not step on the accelerator in the back she leaves alone and has no strength to climb uphill in the reverse, but the other bores for fronts are good ..this car is in movement, i will always work with it.

The vehicle was hard starting, engine/transmission surge, at low speeds and up hill.the thermostat stuck and several other malfunctions.the engine suddenly shut down without warning.the over heated engine had serious burning inside.there were no indicator lights on to see the engine temperature gauge at peak heat.the consumer could not find the problem, had no steam, no check engine, just a fear of engine melt down about to recur. *sc

Water pump/ coolant leaks under intake/oil leaks from oil pump leaked from rear main seals. Consumer had found out after taken vehicle to a technician for safety check and maintenace that those problems needed to be fixed.

While driving about 55 mph on the highway and without prior warning coolant was leaking from underneath the vehicle, andvehicle shut down .

Steering assembly shifter bolts had to be replaced.the bolts were missing.i also have another complaint in regarding this same vehicle on file with you.the other complaint deals with the transmission, radiatior and manifold.

Vehicle engine stalled without warning.*mrengine was replaced and stalled again from city speed to highway speed.the check engine light illuminated. The oxygen sensor was replaced and the light continued to illuminate. After 2.5 hours of electrical testing, nothing was found. The existing stalling is repaired by shutting the a/c off to provide the engine with power.the prevention is to use higher octane gas, omit overdrive and avoid using the a/c. Nissan asked that the consumers wait for the vehicle to break so they could find the cause. The engine itself broke at 59k miles. There was a recall on the crankshaft and camshaft system. But the 1994 models the sensor is in the distributor.*ph

The dealer broke the crankshaft when removing the main pulley bolt. Dealer/nissan refused to provide financial help on repairs. *tcthe consumer did some research and discovered numerous broken crankshafts. The manufacturer determined the cause to be initial tensile force set on the engine accessorybelts during assembly, therefore a technical service bulletin was issued acknowledging the problem.

While drivingengine check light came on.lost power steering as a result of engine failure due to a defect in engine injectors. Had part them replaced 3 times.

Vehicle suddendly suffered a loss of power in acceleration, braking and steering. Driver struggled to control the vehicle to a safe stop. Vehicle towed to dealership whereby the mechanics assessed problem to be a broken crankshaft.

Engine stumbled, and then quit while at idle.repair shop reports broken crankshaft (snout)

While driving, crankshaft broke. This was the second time this problem has happened. Dealer contacted.

The engine warning light came on/off.dealer replaced one of the sensors.however, the light still came on.

The engine stalled at a stop sign.couldn't restart the engine.towed to a mechanic, found the crankshaft was broken. Nlm

Bolt holding lower pulley to crankshaft sheared off. Possible crank shaft failure.

Crankshaft broke under normal operating conditions, no vehicle abuse, had maintained proper maintenance and preventive care in past.all repairs or maintenance other than tires, oil changes, and battery replacements done at nissan dealer factory authorized repair centers.

While traveling on the highway without prior warning the vehicle will shut down and willnot restart.the dealership is aware of the problem.mr

These are all safety issues!!!! vehicle has had a fuel odor for a long time after refueling, condition worsened results: fuel vent hose: when refueling, gas began to profusely leak and pool beneath vehicle. Fixed at my cost.fuel hoses: very strong fuel fumes from engine compartment, dealer replaced two fuel rail rubber hoses at my expense. Most problematic is an intermittent stalling problem:after sitting, within first 5 miles of driving when stopping or at low speed vehicle stalls. Happens in intersections, approaching stops, in slow rush hour traffic.fuel pump replaced, coolant sensor replaced, fuel regulator checked.dealer can't duplicate, nissan contacted.but the problem continues and occurs at the worst times-intesections, heavy slow traffic or attempting to stop.stalls and no power!!! it starts back up and sometimes stalls again repeatedly for several times or days or not for weeks. Next problem: abs light comes on, traced to blown ignition fuse.happened twice.dealer doesn't know why. I have many more repairs, but these are the safety related ones. Thanks for your time and efforts.the stalling is the most troublesome, i know two other quest owners who've also experienced it!!

A cylinder head bolt snapped, sending part of the washer into the camshaft, seizing it and stripping the timing belt.upon further inspection, it was determined that a head bolt on the opposite cylinder head had snapped at some time in the past, but caused no damage.cost of replacing all the bolts and head gaskets, and re-machining the cylinder heads was $1643.we could have replaced the camshafts because the guide pins had been damaged, but the dealer advised against it because the extra cost was of marginal benefit.

Water pump/ coolant leaks under intake/oil leaks from oil pump leaked from rear main seals. Consumer had found out after taken vehicle to a technician for safety check and maintenace that those problems needed to be fixed.

Consumer states that while driving heard a rattling noise and vehicle lostpower.please provide any further information. Mr

Engine failed and needed to be replaced.

About a week ago when pulling out of driveway, engine stalled and would not restart.vehicle was towed to dealer and dealer stated that engine needed to be replaced.

About two years ago, we bought a nissan quest from first nissan in simi valley, california. Less than a month after we bought it the engine stalled while making a left turned. We took the car back to the nissan car dealer but they were not able to find the problem. During these two last years we have taken the car several times to three different nissan dealers, contacted nissan customer service, and pay repairs from our own pocket trying to fix the problem. The stalling happens in a random and occasional basis, which makes it difficult to fix it, but that at the same time, this makes it a very dangerous situation. It will stall without warning and in different situations and it is a life-threating situation. Nissan has not taken any responsibility, and they have ignored us for the most part. Althought the car was in a two year extended warranty they did little to solve the problem or to give as a solution that is safe for our family. They sold us a car that is potentially deadly, and they need to take responsibility for their own product. We don't know what to do. This car cannot be driven, sold, or fixed. What do we do with it? please, let us know if you or someone else can help us on this matter. It is very frustrating that a big company like nissan can just put people in a very unsafe situation like this. Thank you.

Crankshaft broke at 64,314 miles. Engine had to replaced.

Exhaust system has fallen off a total of 4 times; 3 times under warranty, and 1 time consumer had to pay for repairs.dealer couldn't tell why. A mechanic told consumer theat pegs are made of brass, and when motor gets hot it expands. Also, inside ofvehiclesmell led like rotten eggs.

The front and rear exhaust manifold system broke. Dealer notified.*nlm

The exhaust manifolds stubs broke off inside the engine allowing the exhaust manifolds to separate from the engine block, this allows exhaust gas to escape from the crack between the manifold and engine block thus causing a puttering noise in the engine compartment, nissan is aware of the problem, tsb 94041 was issued apr 94.nlm

Studs broke on left manifold which resulted in warped manifold system.this occurred under normal vehicle use.if not repaired this defect could present a problem of potential exaust fumes in driver/passenger compartment and/or breakage of manifold components dropping in engine while traveling.

Exhaust manifold bolts broke and studs remained in manifold. Exhaust leaked in engine bay. Was told by nissan dealer that possible affixiation could result from running the ac and the exhaust leak created by the broken bolts. There was a quest there with the same problem. Had quest fixed elsewhere. When doing oil change a month later, another quest with same problem. Was told by nissan mechanic and my mechanic that this is extremely common in the van. There should be a recall done on the exhaust leak. According to the nissan dealer, the emmisions could be non odorous and may not be detected by smell. I feel this is equally or even more dangerous thena the fuel vent problem because this is invisible. At least you could smell the gas leak and see the gas on the ground.

Boltsthat hold exhaust headers to the block break, and exhaust fumes enter the passenger's compartment. Apparently a common problem and excessivly expensive to repair and ? whether the same problem will re occur.

Fuel vapors inside car.temperature not a factor.excessive after fill-up but vapors continue several days after fill-up. Brake noise on left side-chirping.was told brake rotor warped-original equipment.

Engine check light is on intermittently and has been since before 60,000m warranty ran out.napa nissan failed to diagnose problem--at 52500 mile check they stated that "o2 sensor code" detected, but "o2 sensor okay at this time."i wonder if the exhaust manifold leak may be related to the check engine light?

Strong fuel odor inside and outside the van. Dealer said to replace fuel rail hose. Vent hose was replaced from the recall.

This is a problem with this manifold.it cracks causing the bolts to break.now have put over $3,000.into fixing this problem with 2 services.even though we were told by others on the internet that there is a service bulletin out about this problem for the 94 quest, nissan refuses to cover any of the costs.

At first i noticed an odor of gasoline at each fillup. Several weeks after that, after filling up and driving home,i noticed gasoline running out onto the ground beneath the fuel filler neck. I brought the car to a mechanic, who found the fuel tank vent hose deteriorated and detached from its upper connection. He trimmed off the end of the hose and reattached it. I am concerned that this will happen again, and possibly result in a fire.

Fuel leaking from fuel filler vent line, puddling under van, strong gas fumes, worried about fire hazard.vent hose has cracks throughout.we are going to contact the dealer's service department on 6/30/00.

Exhaust manifold is leaking fuel.

Exhaust manifold is there a recall on this because i took it to midas and he said that he has being these van with this problem where the bolts broken into the manifold exhaust. I want do this suppose to happen and do the company no of this. So can you tell me if there are a recall on these vans. If so, can you let me know.

Eight bolts are sheared off the manifold exhaust system.

The bolts that hold the exhaust pipe onto the manifold broke, causing exhaust to leak from the vehicle.the dealer has repaired the vehicle.the manufacturer has been notified.

Nissan dealer told us this was not a common problem and they had not seen it before. (that was a lie) broken stud bolts where manifold connects to engine. 5 stud bolts replaced 10/01 for $600. Told it would happen again by independent mechanic. Inferior bolts used. Any other breakage would require removal of engine to reach the rest of bolts. $1000 for repair.currently has broken bolts and we're not ready to make the repair again.

Consumer statesstuds broke off on left manifold. Dealer was unable to repair.

I would like to add my complaint to the long list you already have about the broken bolts on the front and rear manifolds.i had three broken studs that needed re-drilling and one bolt that only needed replacement.the manifolds were warped and had to be removed and planed.total cost was $756.16.the problem i was having was a loud rattle noise.when i asked the mechanic about not fixing the problem i was told it was a potential fire hazard.there appears to be a defect in this engine model.i understand it is also prevalent in the pathfinder and other nissan models.when i called my nissan dealership they said there was no recall on this problem.nissan said they has issued a technical bulletin on this issue and for customer service relationsthey were fixing 1994 pathfinders with this problem if they had 100,000 miles or less.

Warped engine manifold due to manifold studs breaking.

Exhaust manifold replacement, bolts and studs.

Manifold on the exhaust replaced 3000 miles ago, now dealer shop is saying the next manifold needs to be replace.dealer mechanic stated that they have seen alot of the quests coming in with needed repairs on the manifolds and requested that we research on the internet to see what we could find.

Cracked exhaust manifold caused leaks to enter vehicle, resulting in exhaust fumes.

Rear (firewall) manifold leaking due to being warped and front manifold leaking due to broken stud. *et

This vehicle has experienced broken bolts on the exhaust manifold. This has caused an exhaust leak which allows fumes to escape into the interior of the vehicle. A survey of other nissan quest owners (93/94) shows this is a common occurence with repairs costing well over 1000 dollars. Nissan has refused to acknowledge this dfect which occurs during vehicle assembly - the exhaust manifold bolts are tightened beyond the recommended torque. User description of these problems can be found at the nissan website on the owner bulletin board.

We bought the van w/38,000 miles on it and i thought it was a bit loud.dealer reassured me that most vans were louder than cars.this was our first mini van.noise kept getting louder with time.i put on new exhaust system to the manifold.it quietened down some. Took it back to muffler shop and they rechecked it and informed me that the engine manifold bolt had sheared off.said it was a design defect that he saw often in the mercury villagers and nissan quests.when icontacted nissan, they said they had never had any complaints and there were no recalls.this is an expensive repair as the bolts must be bored out.if this is a common problem, why hasn't there been a recall.i have been on your web sightand have seen several complains about this same thing.i had an extended warranty, but wouldn't you know it, by the time we found out what the problem was-the warranty was out. How convenient. I have taken good care of this van, but i won't have another nissan.

Due to corrosion struts on the exhaust manifold system broke off.could cause engine problems while driving which may result inan accident.please provide further information.

Rear (firewall) manifold leaking due to being warped and front manifold leaking due to broken stud. *et

Exhaust manifold studs had broken off while driving. Was making noises.fumes fromexhaust would enter inside. Problem was getting worse. Took to dealership, and mechanic gave an estimate of problem.manufacturer knew of problem, andindicated it was a common problem.

Manifold bolts keep melting and breaking.the bolts are popping as fast as the repair person can put them in.the manifold bolts cost about $80 each.united nissan says that the cost to fix one is about $700 if they do not encounter any additional problems.in 1997, we payed a dealership in gulfport mississippi over a @1000 to put in a transmission because metal parts were in our transmission and radiator.they could not determine where the metal was coming from, but it tore up the transmission.i wrote and called nissan and they have a copy of my request for help but no help was provided.

I am aware of numerous failures of these manifold studs failing way before their time which indicates inferior bolts or poor design. Also, there has been major emphassis on safety regarding gases intruding within the cabin space. However this may be a major concern, my question would be, if there is such a high rate of failures that are not being repaired due to costs, what is the purpose of emissions testing (when there are gases escaping)if we are not going hold the manufacturers accountable for inferior work and lack of regard to our environment? i have owned numerous cars in my time and have never experienced manifold studs shearing off. I thank you for your time in looking into this matter.john clark.

While driving a strong gas odor comes through the vents and fills the vehicl's interior even with the windows down.at first fixing the cause was indicated to be hole in the mulffler.when the problem occured again, the cause was indicated to be tearing in the gas tank vent hose.air conditioner failed.

We have had nothing but problems with this van. Air conditioner/ brakes/seat belts, and the most costly of all, transmission failed at 2800.00.i know that we have had more problems, but cann't think of them all.

Ac evaporator leaked and had to be replaced.( dot number: tire size: p205/75r15 )

Engine does not perform well (miles per gallon) with non-oxygenated gasoline, no information given to consumer about engine performance due to gasoline selection.

Brake lights and tail lights fail to come on and dash lights have also failed, dealer states vehicle not covered under recall 96v253004 . Several other complains about this from different manufacturing dates and vin#. Seems to be more universal than previously thought. Hoping nissan can resolve.

The brake light fuse blew-up five times within a two-month period, thus causing the brake lights not operate when brake is applied.i have contacted nissan about this.they said they are recalling 1994 models of quest mini-van due to this defect (nhtsa campaign # 96v253004) but they said my car is not included because the vin is not on their list.this is a major safety item because the car driver following you won't have any means of warning if you are slowing down/stopping.he could bump/crash onto your car.i have replaced the original fuse with those bought from the dealer.since the car's warranty expired, i would like to find out if you could help me and other owners of this model of car before i/we bring it to the repair shop.thank you

Rear brake light on left hand side fails to work properly. The socket for the bulb is loose.it would work for a short period & then the light will not work. Talken to dealer dealer informed consumer itwouldb eexpensive torepair & not under recall.

Brake light failure also occurs outside of nhtsa sb048944; my vehicle was mnfd 10/93, six months before the nhtsa recall mnfd date range

Dt: consumer states brake lights not working properly.took vehicle to the shop, metal tube that separates from housing was defective. No lights came on. Put in new brake switch, new fuses, and bulbs.

Defect matches description for mfg. Campaign #96v253004.i took it to a nissan dealer for repair but they refused to cover the repair.they claimed that my vehicle was manufactered several months before the recalled vehicles.

The tail lights were defective.they were causing the dashboard, and all of the marker lights to fail. The dealer stateed that there was a recall, however the vehicle was not included.96v253004

Rear lamp does not illuminate reliably because metal can in the lamp socket moves and separates from plastic socket housing.this results in malfunction of the stop and rear running lamps.rear lamp malfunction could result in following drivers colliding with vehicle by virtue of not being alerted to subject vehicles presence or intended actions.issue impact both rear lights.

The rear lamp socket comes on and off intermittently due to metal separating from plastic sockets, which caused the rear lights to fail.the vehicle experienced the same defect as stated in recall 96v253004, but the vehicle identification number was not included. Consumer feels if the vehicle was not produced in numerical order, then how could they go by the vin. *ph

Recall 96 v 253 004/rear lamp socket: vehicle stoppedand rear running light stopped operating intermittently. Replaced bulbs every three months.dealer notified, and informed consumerthat this vehiclewas not cover underrecall due to vin.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Their are two bolts that hold the manifold tomotor.bolts broke, causing an intakemanifold leak.dealerhas been contacted.dealer replaced both exhaust mainfold studs and replaced related gaskets, consumer stated that dealer replaced small bolts with bigger bolts and does not feel nissan should charge almost 400 dollars for this repair.consumer states ther is a long crank time especially when fuel level is low, dealer states that vehicle needs a new fuel pump.

Steering assembly shifter bolts had to be replaced.the bolts were missing.i also have another complaint in regarding this same vehicle on file with you.the other complaint deals with the transmission, radiatior and manifold.

There is a strong smell of fuel. Contacted dealer.the intake manifold hoses were replaced by the dealer because it was defective.

Water pump/ coolant leaks under intake/oil leaks from oil pump leaked from rear main seals. Consumer had found out after taken vehicle to a technician for safety check and maintenace that those problems needed to be fixed.

Fuel line leaks fuel onto the engine block, beneath the intake plenum.when engine is running, visible drips occur (about 1 drop per 1 or 2 seconds).

Fuel line, mettallic just prior to entry into engine ruptured spraying/dripping gasoline

Last fall we smelled gas.we took the car in and had the overflow hose replaced.later, in the spring, that part was recalled.again, this week, we smelled gas.we took the car and had the recall part put in.the next day we still smelled gas.they called me and said it was another fuel hose which is under the manifold.that is two fuel hose leaks in less than a year.that is scary.what if i didn't have $228 to replace it?this is a huge fire hazard.i am becoming scared to drive this car.please consider this a serious problem.

Fuel lines nearengineare leaking and have cracked, causing fire hazard. Dealer claims that 6 lines need to be replaced.consumer is requesting reimbursement.

The car is very difficult to start after sitting.i have a number of friends with similiar complants with the quest and the sister mercury van.all the solutions have been with the replacement of the fuel pump.most of these people have had this replaced between 40 and 70k miles.the pump is located in the fuel tank.if the gas level drops to low then the pump becomes damaged as it heats up and/or sucks air.i think this is design problem, and am wondering if other people have produced this complaint.

Vehicle has an excess of fuel vapors flowing into the driver's compartment. Also, fuel tank hosehad a leak. Dealer has replaced a hose twice.*ml

Consumer experienced fuel loss, approximately half gallon, on garage floor due to numerous cracks in fuel line. Dealer was notified and was not interested inthe consumer's complaint. Also the consumer has old fuel line for inspection if needed.

Oil pressure build up which was causing the gasoline to leak from the fuel line, and a strong fuel odor came into the cabin. The fuel tank hose was replaced, but the problem recurred.

Strong fuel odor inside and outside the van. Dealer said to replace fuel rail hose. Vent hose was replaced from the recall.

While driving fuel was leaking from vehicle due to breakage of fuel rail. Dealer indicated vehicle could have exploded.

I am reporting this problem because ther appears to be an above average failure of the transmission in 1994 model year nissan quest minivans.these failures are all happening around 80000 miles. This above average failure rate points to a possible defect in the 1994 nissan quest transmission.i have seen reports of these failures on www.edmunds.comwebsite in its townhall forum .the problems are reported in the van section the this forum ans specifically in the section about problems with the quest van.

As reported on cbs eye on america on sept. 7, 2001, i have a nissan quest with demon locks.they doors lock 75%+ of the time when i touch the driver's side door handle (inside or out) or close the door.without the outside keypad i would have difficulting getting back in.i want to make sure this is reported since various groups are saying this is only an isolated problem.i believe it is a serious safety problem and i also believe the nissan quest van has an overall electrical problem due to the number of electrical items that have failed during my ownership of the vehicle.

Clunk noise while making left (slow) turn. 3 left turns later, rt wheel separated from suspension, and car skidded to stop. Lower rt ball joint had broken and inner cv joint had separated. Damage to rt fender when tire hit car frame. Very fortunate only traveling ~ 7mph when wheel broke loose otherwise the lost of control would have been very dangerous. Examination of ball joint showed damaged 'boot' and lost of all grease. Car gets regular state safety checks and was in for timing belt replacement and overall checkout last year.

My engine has an intermittent idle control problem.periodically (every week to two weeks) my engine will have difficulty maintaining idle.the engine starts every time.after 5 mins. Of running time, the engine idle speed starts to fluctuate between 0 rpm and 1200 rpm.the normal idle speed after the initial 5 min. Warm up period is 700-800 rpm.this idling problems lasts for approximately 10-20 mins.if i do not attempt to restart the engine and let my engine rest, the idling problem resolves itself.after 20 mins. I can start the engine and it will run fine without any problems for another two weeks.in addition, if i leave my foot on the accelerator for about 15 mins., the idling problem resolves itself and the engine has no problems for another two weeks.this problem is very difficult to fix because i cannot bring the car to the repair shop with the car displaying this idling control difficulty because the problem resolves itself after 20 mins.i have tried to have this idling control problem diagnosed and repair but the repair shop could never cause my car to display this idling control malfunction that i described.during the whole time period at the repair shop, my car started every time and maintained idle without any difficulties.in addition, when they tried to check the computer for anamolous conditions, there were no problems with the idle control software.this problem has become a concern because it is a safety issue.

I own an 94 nissan quest minivan. The power door lock keep locking by itself intermittently (when the van is running, or when the the door is closing, or when the i touch the door handle to open, or when i turn the key to unlock/open the door.)i'd been complained this to nissan corporation, nissan dealers since 1995. I brought the car to various dealers for repair on advice from nissan consumer affairs office (1-800-nissan-1) and wasted so much of my time just to sit all days waiting for the familiar results: can not duplicate; can not fix. Even though the door lock by itself in front of the service managers. They arguments: it must locks itself in front of the mechanics and must does it every time ( i not allowed in mechanic's area.) finally, after spent so much of my time in various dealer's service waiting rooms, a dealer fixed it in late 1997 with i pay $50.00 copay because "out of warranty period". Now the problem is back, the power door keep activating on it own. I brought it back to the same dealer and they refused to service it with the same argument as before: can not duplicate, can not fix.i have a gold extended warranty issued by nissan corporation for seven (7) years cover bumper to bumper (1994-2000). It seemed as just is a piece of worthless paper! it covers nothing and enforces nothing. In addition to the injury, nissan corporation's consumer affairs told me that the warranty service is the dealers responsibility not nissan. I am really frustrated. Are there any thing else that i can do to get this fix???help.thank you very much.my email:[email protected]
