As has happened to close to 100% of quest/mercury villager owners, i have cracked manifolds, missing manifold studs, and several broken manifold studs.this results in poor starts, exhaust leaks, and a noticeable "clacking" (exhaust leak) upon acceleration.my vehicle has 118k miles.i understand the labor for a complete fix can run over $1000, while parts run under $100.i have contacted 1-800-nissan1 with this issue and the operator was aware of this very common, serious problem and affirmed that i would be contacted with any possible compensation.

I am experiencing a very common problem with my nissan vehciles. I have located the same problem throughout your complaints database for many nissan models and various years. I need your help in resolving this problem with the dealer. They should issue a recall or pay for all repairs. Please refer to the numerous complaints on your web site such as the following for the '94 nissan quest:odi #s- 718520, 710278, 835965, 781102, 781100, 720610, 533368, 781099, 715129, 720103, 722946, 850195.....i can find alot more odi numbers for the same problem for the '1993-'1995 quests, pathfinders, maximas, etc. Nissan is hiding a major problem.* no safety defect mentioned in summary.

I've had problems with the exhaust manifolds on this car starting on 06/29/95 with 30,887 milesr - exhaust manifold repair/studs/gaskets.07/10/96with 46,846 miles replaced exhaust manifold studs/gaskets.07/17/96 with 47,664 miles replaced front exhaust manifold.10/01/97 with 68,883 miles brought to dealer with exhaust noise and was told that they could not find the problem at this time.i was concerned that the van/repairs were getting out of warrantyand the service advisor told me if it got worse it would be close enough to cover under goodwill given the history of the van.he also told me that 6cyl nissan engines have this problem.05/06/00 with 76,670 miles again brought to dealer to advise on exhaust noise. Again they said they could not find the problem and to bring it back if it gets worse.each time i brought the car in for exhaust repairs i was told that nissan has an inherent problem with exhaust studs breaking and then when they replace them with hardened studs, the manifolds end up cracking.this to me is an admission of a defective exhaust system yet i have never received any recall and every time after they fix it, it breaks over and over again.04/06/00 with 102,944 miles brought again to dealer with very loud exhaust noise.replaced rear manifold studs/gaskets. Still making noise so they replaced the front manifold studs/gaskets.still making noise so they replaced front header pipe they say was cracked which i believe was caused from driving so long with broken studs.cost this time was over $1,300.00.when i contacted nissan consumer affairs they made it sound like they were going to cover it given the history of the car and the cost was between $500 - $600. But once the cost went up to $1,300 they refused to cover the difference.09/06/00 with 109,800 mile brought to dealer again with loud exhaust noise. Now they say it needs a new manifold for another $280. There are tsb's for this problem.

The exhaust manifold snapped off at least one of the bolts holding the cover on.john at magic muffler in thousand oaks (805-496-2436) pointed out the problem to us and said it was very common in the nissan quests.my brother also had the same problem with his quest on more then one occasion.the exhaust manifold supposedly warps and snaps the bolts holding it on.nissan said that there is no recall for this problem?if it is a common problem or flaw in design, why is there not a recall?i was informed from several different repair shops that this would cost me $320 to $1600 depending on how many of the bolts are broken off into the housing.

Exhaust manifold bolts broke.

Exaust manifold studs broken (advised by mecanic common problem)

Vehicle exhaust manifold studs failed/broke. Dealer is aware of service bulletin spelling out problem. Exhaust manifolds leak during failure, manifold gaskets are asbestos fibers which leak into living compartment of vehicle during failure. Service bulletin only mentions bolt failure which dealer refuses to cover after warranty. Due to potential danger i believe that recall should be put into effect for all nissan products with this failure and asbestos warning be placed on bulletin as well. Asbestos warning only placed on replacement gasket.

Consumer states the exhaust manifold studs have broken four times in as many years, causing exhaust leaks.

Vehicle stalls without warning, head exhaust manifold failure.

I purchased 4 yokohama aegis gs4 p215/70r-15 97s tires (serial no. Cc608hn428) at discount tire in midland, tx on december 18, 1998.the tires have been rotated every 6,000-8,000 miles and have been properly inflated.most of the driving on these tires has been in texas and other southern states.in august, 2000 the tire mounted on the left rear wheel separated after 32,000 miles.on january 4, 2001 the tire mounted on the left front developed cracks from the edge of the tread to the sidewall (separated?) and would not hold pressure after 37,000 miles.on january 10, 2001 the tire mounted on the right front wheel failed while driving after 37,000 miles.the inside sidewall was completely deteriorated (separated?).all three tires were replaced by discount tire under their warranty with a competing brand of tire for $20-27/each.it seems a 75% failure rate is not very good and i thought you should know.
