The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v361000 (air bags). The contact was concerned for his safety. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Takata recall-the nissan consumer affairs department was unwilling to assist me in repairing the affected vehicle. The closest service area is 98.3 miles one way from my house in which they told me to pay for the cost of travel and time off of work out of my own pocket in order for the repairs to be completed. I asked if the service station could instead pick up my vehicle and provide me a loaner vehicle while the repairs were taking place in which they declined.
Mvc involving another vehicle which subsequently led to a collision with a 2 feet circumference electrical pole at approximately 40mphwhere the driver side airbag failed to deploy.
2002 nissan pathfinder.consumer writes in regards to front passenger airbag inflator recall notice.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. While making a left turn at an unknown speed, another vehicle crashed into the passenger side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Nissan sent me a recall on the air bags.i speak with the dealer service dept, they say they have to keep the car all day long.they provide no loaner.how am i supposed to go places?i need my car.they said they will not pay for a rental.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, she passed out behind the wheel. The vehicle continued to drive with her foot steadily depressing the accelerator pedal and the contact crashed into a telephone pole. Upon impact, the driver's side airbag did not deploy. The contact received injuries to the head and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. The police were contacted and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed as destroyed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.
I was involved in an accident which caused extensive damage to the front of my car. I hit another vehicle at a speed of 50 mph. However, my airbags did not deploy which appears to be a major malfunction. I want the nhtsa to investigate nissan for a serious product deficiency.ak
The first time while driving the pathfinder in regular driving conditions, the engine stalled at approximately 30 mph. To restart the engine i had to put the transmission in neutral and turn the key all the way off and then restart the vehicle.the second time this happened i was driving again the same day, cruising along at about 50 mph in traffic, and the engine died again with no warning. The instrument cluster showed all the typical "dummy lights" after the engine failed the first two times. When we parked the pathfinder we could smell gas at the rear passenger door on the drivers side. We took the pathfinder to the shop for repair. Fuel smell was corrected by installing a fuel pump seal and the fuel pump system was reseated, and reinstalled after an incorrect installation by a previous mechanic. After receiving the pathfinder back fro our shop, the engine died again while sitting in a parked position running in an idle state. No instrument cluster lights came on when engine died this time (the 3rd time), no check engine or codes displayed. Then while driving again at 50 mph in normal driving conditions the engine died again, no indication of electrical issues, no flashes in headlights, interior lights, no flux in the hvac fan, nothing. Tachometer dropped to zero with no other indication the engine died, no vibration, no jerking. I put the transmission in neutral, shut of the key, and try to restart with no success. I coasted the car to the side of the road and turned the key off and removed it from the ignition and then re inserted it to restart the pathfinder. Again, no check engine lights, no codes, nothing to indicate a problem. I purchased this car used only days ago 11/30/2014, and it has spent everyday in the shop trying to resolve this issue. It has only 96540 original miles on it, and is a very clean vehicle
1) nissan pathfinder 2002 -air conditioning fan would only work on speed 4 (high) and wouldn't shut off.runs continuously2) fan would only shut off if ignition was turned off - electrical short issue3) nissan had a "kit" that was to fix the problem & was installed at my expense.once installed it fixed the fan issue (nissan issued a tsb 10-16-2003 - component 353600 equipment - electrical - air conditioner) but created another problem.now fan won't come on for heat or defroster (while on auto) when outside temperature is below 60 degrees.nissan doesn't know how to solve the problem only that they are now suggesting to possibly replace the ac auto amp unit or the inside sensor or possibly both.only a suggestion but not a "fix for sure" again at my expense.i already paid $428.42 because vehicle was 4000 miles over warranty and now they want to experiment at my expense for another $500.00.i refused because they are not guaranteeing that this will solve the problem because the engineers/technicians really don't know what is causing the new issue.
I recently brought up to the attention of nissan a problem i've been experiencing with my car.the "check engine service" light is on and it just doesn't turn off.let me explain.when i first notice the problem, around 6 months ago, i took the car to a dealer.however, just to hook up the car to the computer of the dealership is over $100.not to get fixed, just to hook up.i think that's outrageous. So i took it to 2 different places, a local mechanic and autozone, both equipped with computer hook ups, capable of "reading" nissan codes.at first, the code indicated a problem with the "r" valve timing solenoid, which i proceeded to change. However, the light continued on.i took it back, and now it was the "l" side, which i also changed. These two changes cost me $500.but the light continues on.now is giving codes for the cam/crank sensor, dirt build up, the ivt control solenoid open or shorted. At this point is when i contacted nissan.i was assigned a case number (11149465) and eventually talked to a [xxx], 800/343-6913, ext 458103. She indicated that there was nothing they could if i did not take the car to a nissan dealer. They still would charge over $100 just to connect to the computer. This is in addition to the monies already spent. This is a problem that other owners of nissan vehicles have experienced in the past (pathfinder, 2002) and problem.that i had been taking the car to the dealer for the regular maintenance check up since i bought it new, which could be easily verified.that the car has less than 60,000 miles.however, that was nissan final position. I can provide the bill paid and diagnosis. This problem is, and has been, a headache for us owners, not to mention the expense and time commitment. All i was requesting was to get this problem finally solved, without incurring in additional expenses and unnecessary waste of time.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I recently bought this vehicle in az. Howeverthe vehicle came from conneticut. It has a severe wobble when accelerting and decellerating.
Instrument panel lights go on and off intermittently, no pattern.the lights behind the speedometer and other gauges will not operate on occasion.turning the lights on and off, turning off the vehicle and turning it back on doesn't help.bumps, temperature outside, etc. Seem to have no effect on the issue.it makes it uncomfortable to drive at night as you cannot tell how fast you are going or how much fuel you have.
Part from butterfly valve came loose and fell inside engine. Destroyed engine.

The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the check engine warning illuminated. Prior to the failure, the vehicle stalled. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the oil pan was faulty. The failure mileage was 108,000.

Nissan power control valve loose fasteners:my concern resonates with consumer safety that involves gross engine failure during operations due to loosening internal fasteners/components.while driving on a city street, i noticed an abrupt and unusual mechanical grinding sound coming from my vehicle (v6 pathfinder).eventually the car would not start.after having it towed to the dealer for diagnostics and service, the technician noticed that an internal power control valve was missing from the intake after he had removed the valve cover during his troubleshooting. I purchased this vehicle new (sole owner) and have never had any work/maintenance performed that required the valve cover to be removed. After doing some research on my own, i found multiple complaints about nissan power control valve screws loosening, falling within the engine and causing severe engine failure while driving and more than $2k in repairs to the consumer.i also noted that nissan (west coast, california) recently recalled various models/multi-years, including the 2002 pathfinder, acknowledging the problem with loosening fasteners within the respective engines; however, no recall was enacted for the same models on the east coast usa. Although my vehicle was eventually diagnosed with idle air control valveand electronic control module (engine) problems, the location (within my engine) of the missing power control valve and it's fasteners is not known and i am not convinced that this foreign material (loose screws/valve) would not have been the root cause of these diagnosed failures. Please note that i have been very fortunate in that my vehicle has over 200k miles; however, there are multiple power control valves within my (these) vehicles that may be subject to failure and most importantly if other consumers may be one engine failure away from a potential catastrophic result.
Cracked resonator/catalytic converter at 60k miles.was told that the parts were no covered by nissan, that there hasn't been a recall, but to purchase a 'fix' kit.it appears that this is common with the pathfinder and nissan will not recall the items.
I was completely stopped at an atm waiting for my turn, i had been stopped for serveral minutes.suddenly, my car revved up and accelerated forward fast, brakes were engaged.i tried turning to avoid the truck ahead of me.struck the truck, went over a curb, down an emabnkment where i struck a tree, and ended up in a different parking lot where the nissan pathfinder finally came to a stop.at no time did my foot leave the brake pedal.had car towed to dealer.they contacted nissan in san diego and were instructed to not have anyone touch the car until they flew out an engineer and possibly a lawyer.ten days later, the engineer finally arrived.he stated several times that i would be "lucky" if he was able to compile, analyze, and present the findings to the nissan legal team within the next 5 days.shockingly, i received a call from nissan consumer affairs in san diego not 2.5 hours after i left the shop here in utah (where the engineer still was and had not visited the crash site yet to document it) stating they had determined that they were not responsible for the accident.based on the time frame, i can not imagine that the engineer had even returned to san diego, let alone developed the 4-5 rolls of film he took and analyzed/compiled everything and presented it to the legal team.as mentioned, the crash was a result of a malfunction with the nissan.i was completely stopped for a priod of time prior to this occuring.this is not the first time a nissan pathfinder has done this (as well as other models of their cars/trucks/suvs).the nhtsa has numerous documents of this occuring.what can i do as a consumer as i am terrified to put my family back in that car and worry about the threat this car may pose to other individuals.
We have been loyal nissan customers since 1987 and my 2002 pathfiner started making a loud rattling noise.we had it towed to the dealership and the technician checked it out and told us that 2 screws had fallen out of the power valve and were bouncing around in the cylinder, and there was nothing we had done wrong.it is a design flaw that nissan refuse to correct.i am told it could have been corrected for $150.00.the cost of repair the pathfinder is $7,899.99 which nissan north american has refuse to pay.we have talked to their consumer affairs specialist and she refuse to authorize the dealership to fix this problem.after being a loyal nissan customer since 1987, i do not understand why they refuses to help us. I have a 1994 with over 100,000 miles on it and never had any engine problems.i went on line and find out that many nissan pathfinder customers are having the same problem.we kept the oil changed every 2,000-2,500 miles.i need help.
Mt 2002 pathfinder started to develop overheating problems at about 97,000 miles. Dealership replaced water pump, and flushed out cooling system.at 120,000 miles, radiator became clogged with a substance the was unknown.the vehicle is now on the fifth radiator, and each one has been plugged by the same substance - aluminum oxide.at this point there is no failure, but tech person at dealership believes that failure is inevitable, and we really do not know what will happen.the only thing that has been done to date was to replace almost the entire cooling system that can be replaced.nissan global, and nissan north america will do nothing.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder.the contact heard a loud noise coming from her vehicle.in addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel.she took her vehicle to a local repair shop and the technician stated that the catalytic converter was split in the middle.she took the vehicle to an authorized dealer and they stated that the resonator needed to be repaired instead of the catalytic converter.the repair would cost over $1,500.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact recently smelled vapors coming from her vehicle.she filed a complaint with the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 58,000 and current mileage was 60,000. Updated 11/07/08. *ljthe front exhaust tubes were leaking and vent control valve was leaking. Updated 11/07/08.
Recently, our 2002 nissan pathfinder had to have an engine replaced. The cause was a set of very small bolts in the butterfly valve assembly which is now a part of the intake manifold. My concern is that the engine shop tech now performing the engine replacement mentioned that he is seeing a lot of this type of problem with these specific engines. Also, this is the second 2002 pathfinder we have had this happen to. The other one was my daughter's. I am an operations research systems engineer and know that the probability of this occurring to two vehicles of the same year within the same family; both purchased from the same location is a prime indicator of a systemic engineering problem.the factors are that the bolts work loose and drop into the cylinders. If they do not get caught in the cylinder, they are blown out the exhaust. If they do get caught by the piston, they scratch the walls of the cylinders allowing a significant amount of oil to be forced into the chamber where it ignites and is exhausted. The subsequent repair is costing $5200.in both of these situations, the oil reservoir was emptied within 2-3 days. I know this as i constantly check vehicle fluids (i was an army officer and had a motor pool). I caught a low oil quantity in both vehicles; refilled the reservoir; and checked in a few days to find them near empty again. I also know that had the oil run out while at highway speeds, an engine seizing could potentially occur, causing catastrophic engine damage and potential serious accidents. When this occurred, on both vehicles, i took the vehicles to the same dealership for inspection/repair. They seemed to be unaware of the cause of the problem and recommended a specific diagnostic action at a cost of $2000 that only would diagnose the problem and not repair it. A non-nissan tech recommended the engine replacement given his knowledge of the vehicles and the recurring problem.i reported this situation to nissan motor c

The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder.while driving 55 mph, the check engine and oil lights illuminated and the vehicle stalled.the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, and it began smoking.the dealer stated that the vehicle was just overheating and not to worry.a few minutes later, the contact was informed that the vehicle was on fire.the entire front end of the vehicle burned to the ground.the fire and police departments arrived and the fire marshall had the vehicle towed to a junk yard.a police report was filed.the contact took pictures of the damage.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 102,000.
My 2002 pathfinder has a overheating problem.it began approximately 2 months ago.while going down the interstate the engine temp. Rose and the cruise control malfunctioned.a local mechanic noticed the a/c compressor going bad, replaced this and problem still continued and became more frequent.mechanic pressure tested radiator, it seemed fine, found two very tiny leaks, sealed them, put on a new radiator cap.problem still continued.took the vehicle to a nissan dealer.they replaced fan clutch.still same problem.nissan dealer tried flushing radiator.still overheating.dealership thinks there is some kind of blockage in the radiator that they cannot flush out.they cannot create enough pressure to flush it properly.they recommend a new radiator.they are supposed to install it in 2 days.hopefully this fixes my problem.i've replaced the whole engine cooling system.what causes this problem?i've read a service bulletin of this happening to another person.nissan can't explain cause.check out consumer complaint: odi case number: 10191259.mileage on vehicle when problems arose: 85,000 miles.
Vibration problems during hard acceleration and constant vibration between 35 and 40 mph.... Four visits to two dealerships... Unable to fix problem ... Vehicle also was in twice for oil leak.
Rumbling sound coming from exhaust. Local repair shop said it was a leaking catalytic converter. Took it to nissan dealership. They said it was a cracked tube in the exhaust and there was a service bulletin classification fe04-002. Reference ntb04-092. Issued 9-1-2004.they would not repair under warranty. My subsequent research found numerous complaints about this, mostly safety related, several people suffered dizziness while idling. I believe this is a safety issue and a defective product and should be recalled. Their fix is to clamp a patch on to the leaking area. Many of the reports i read said that this also fails. I would suggest that their solution is a failure also.
When we purchased the car used in sept 2007, it had 24,509 miles on it.the exhaust sounded somewhat loud but not too abnormal.just under a year later, the exhaust was very loud and rattling.we took it in to the nissan dealership and they told us the front exhaust tubes were rusted and leak.they said nissan supplies a 'repair kit' to put a patch on these tubes. The dealership told us they have seen many other problems like this and i have found there are many entries for this exact problem on online forums.one such forum can be found at topix.com. Just the fact that nissan supplies a 'repair kit' to fix this exact problem shows these exhaust tubes are faulty and should be recalled.
1:events leading to failure:2002 nissan pathfinder, 71,000 miles.loud exhaust sounds.dealership looked at car (charged $50 to look) and reported the exhaust system pipes going into the catalytic converter are cracked - again - already repaired once.dealership will not repair/replace without charge.this is a recurring defect and possibly an emissions problem.the pipes carry exhaust from engine into catalytic converter and muffler and they are leaking and this is not the first time for this vehicle or many others online.dealership mechanic specifically told me, "we see this alot" ?!?!defective!nothing has been done to correct, i need assistance ensuring that the dealership takes responsibility for a recurring issue.
2002 nissan pathfinder has leaking exhaust tube that fail emissions test. Nissan has a tsb ntb04-092 but does not pay to fix this issue.the repair is a patch with questionable durability. Since this leak is directly beneath passenger compartment, an idling vehicle would pose a threat to occupants.
I own a 2002 nissan pathfinder with 97,000. Miles on it. There is a crack in the exhaust manifold that has been getting louder over the last 24 months and recently i have begun to smell exhaust inside the car. This apparently is a manufacturing defect and should be corrected by nissan.
I have a 2002 nissan pathfinder with 67,000 miles. According to my mechanic, my two rear catalytic converters are leaking co2 from their seams. According to my service manual, catalytic converters are covered under the federal warranty 8/80. I took the car to the white plains nissan dealer and was told that it's the exhaust tubes that are leaking. The service manager said it could be repaired but i would have to pay. I understand that this has been an ongoing and frequent problem with 2002-2003 pathfinders and that the epa has notified nissan in the past that this production defect could cause health and safety issues. I don't see why they can call these parts "exhaust tubes" when they are really catalytic converters and have them not subject to the federal warranty. I believe nissan should be responsible for replacing these defective parts with a product recall. Can you help me in this matter?thank you, dorrine livson
I am complaining about the exhaust system on my 2002 nissan pathfinder.i had a leak at the bottom of the pipe at what looks like a catalytic converter.i paid nissan to fix the problem.a year later it is leaking again.i brought the car back to be repaired.they told me the part on the bottom of the pipe is not a catalytic converter.i was told by a mechanic it was.either way this seems to be a large problem and should be fixed by nissan.
Exhaust system problem on 2002 nissan pathfinder.just paid $645.00 to have two co2 oxygen sensors replace on vehicle and then was told that i needed to have my resonators replace in order to pass the emission control test. I have been smelling emission from the car for a year and was informed that it was co2 sensors that need to be replaced.
The exhaust "resonators" on my 2002 pathfinder began to leak at a welded seam at about 28,000 miles. The nissan dealer refused to replace the exhaust pipes and insisted on installing a patch kit. This kit only lasts approximately 20,000 miles and they begin to leak again. This repair has been performed 4 times thus far and it is leaking again. Truck now has 103,000 miles. Nissan now refuses to pay for the patch. My service engine light is now on so i suspect this is tied to the exhaust leak. This is a safety concern as it allows exhaust gases to come from underneath the vehicle and enter the cabin when sitting idle. Based on local dealers own admissions, this is a design flaw.
2002 nissan pathfinder - split seams in resonators / catalytic converter the exhaust on this vehicle had been a bit noisy since it was about a year old.recently when it went to a shop for some undercar work, i was informed that the catalytic converters were both split and needed to be replaced.i brought the car back to the dealer and requested replacement under the 8 year 80,000 mile warranty mandated on emissions equipment.they informed me that those parts were indeed leaking badly, and that nissan hadso many failures that they had developed a special patch kit for them.i declined the patch due to an excessive cost for a few large clamps and some exhaust cement.subsequent research indicates that numerous other pathfinders of similar vintage have had the same problem, thus there is a manufacturing issue in the welding of the seams of this part which according to midas is a catalytic converter and according to nissan is a resonator.this is a safety issue as carbon monoxide is being released directly under the passenger compartment.a complaint was filed with nissan and they claim it is part of standard warranty and thus not covered, and they have not issued a recall.i informed them of my intent to proceed with complaints to nhtsa and a class action lawsuit if necessary to force a recall of this defect that is causing safety issues for all owners of nissan pathfinders of similar vintage.
I have a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The vehicle developed an exhaust leak about 2 years and 30,000 miles ago. The vehicle now has 100,000 miles on it. You could smell the exhaust leak and hear the exhaust leak. The leak is coming from the resonators or catalytic converter, whatever you want to call it.figuring that my warranty was up, i had the vehicle fixed at my own cost. Recent investigation into website complaint forums made me realize that this has been a recurring problem for 02-03 nissan pathfinder owners and should have been covered under the 8/80 rule to be fixed by nissan at no cost. The failure of nissan to provide information to the owners of these vehicles that there is a possible problem with manufacturing is an outrage.
1. Exhaust leak sounds, exhaust into cab of vehicle, loud rattling sounds while driving.2. Noticed around 60,000 miles, progressively getting worse!3. Taken to nissan, nissan refuses to pay for defect. Nissan claimed cracked pipes, no recall.

Both catalytic converters seams blew out which madethe oxygen sensor go bad. I called nissan dealer in jamestown n.y. To see for recalls, he said there was a service bulletin. They had me bring vehiclein and they cemented the seals.they said they had many complaints on them, and had a kit to fix them, they charged me $150.00to fix it. Which lasted about 5 months ,and theyblew outagain.
The exhaust pipes and catalytic converter that run under the driver and passenger side of the vehicle were leaking causing exhaust fumes enter the interior of the car.the exhaust fumes caused both the driver and passenger to fall asleep without any symptoms of sleepiness or drowzyness.the car was taken to the dealer to have the parts replaced.the dealer stated that the parts did not need replacing and only a foam spray seal was required.this did not give me the assurance i need to continue driving the car.
The consumer stated took the vehicle into the dealer to see if the vehicle had an exhaust leak due to the vehicle making a loud noise upon evaluation by the dealer, he was informed there was a defective catalytic converterwhich separated at the seams. The consumer stated he had the vehicle repaired and would like to be reimbursed for repairs via internet this is a very common problem with this vehicle.updated 09/12/07updated 09/18/07.

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle has problems with leaks from the exhaust leakin in the catalytic converter.the vehicle was taken to the dealers. They determined that the part could not be replace free of charge because it was not covered under his warranty.the dealers did repair the vehicles converter with a clamp.the contact states that the dealers are not honoring the warranty on the vehicle.updated 8/16/2006 -
I have taken my 2002 nissan pathfinder to the greenville, nc nissan dealer on two separate occasions for an exhaust leak. After both visits, they have diagnosed the leak as "front tubes". The nissan dealer states these are not considered catalysts. They state the "front tubes" are cracking down the sides and causing an exhaust leak on both of them directly under the driver and passenger seats of the vehicle. The dealer attempted to charge me $1400 to fix the issue. I have attempted to resolve this safety issue with them. I have taken the pathfinder to an independent exhaust shop and they diagnosed both "front tubes" as catalytic converters being faulty. The nissan dealer still refused to assist with the matter. This is a major exhaust leak happening due to a manufacturer defect.i researched the nissan service manual for the 2002 nissan pathfinder and located the exhaust diagram. According to the diagram, the part that is faulty is considered a twc(underfloor) which is a three way catalyst. Nissan is refusing to correct this defect. They offer a patch which utilizes an epoxy and round clamps to fit over a rectangular catalyst. This is not a proper fix. They still want to charge for this even though their parts manual states this is a catalyst. The vehicle in question had 63k miles on the first visit and now only has 70k miles on the most recent visit. This is a very widespread issue among the 2002 and 2003 nissan pathfinders.
Leaking exhaust system from resonators/catalytic converters.
Consumer stated a holeformed in the catalytic converter. Dealer was unable to repair the problem.
Recurring exhaust leak, even after having the manufacturer install their own repair kit.
Dt*: the contact stated both catalytic converter seals failed which allowed the exhaust to leak. The service dealer and manufacturer were contacted.
Both catalytic converters split at seams causing noise and exhaust leaks at 80,000 miles.non-nissan shop replaced because of cheaper than having nissan dealer replace.complaints made to nissan consumer affairs and response was "what do you want nissan to do about it?".unwilling to do anything about it since replaced at non-nissan shop.told repeatedly by several shops that this is a common problem on pathfinders of that year, manufacturer defect.when these converters are leaking exhaust, they are located just under the front doors and a heavy exhaust smell comes out right at the doors, so having the windows down is not a good idea.
(1) no one single event lead up to the failure, the failure occurred over time.(2) exhaust systems "front tube" on both sides of the vehicle cracked and split at the seams.the morning was quite cool, donna stroud was driving to her next mail delivery stop, with the heater running full blast, when she experienced physical symptoms similar to a seizure, clenched fists, curled in wrists, shortness of breath, and dizziness.she had to ask a passerby to call 911 as she was unable to operate her phone with clenched hands.the fire department and an emergency medical team arrived quickly and went right to work the emts assessment revealed an unusual heart rhythm pattern and low blood oxygen levels.she started felling better after several minutes on oxygen but was rushed via helicopter to emergency room where they ran numerous blood test ekgs and x-rays reveled nothing unusual enough to cause the symptoms she experienced.(3) nissan dealer installed a repair kit to fix this known problem. My 6 disc cd changer does not work.the problem has been well documented on this website, and several message boards.nissan has refused to acknowledge the defect and has refused to correct the problem.there should be a recall on these cd players.
This is a complaint on the 2002 nissan pathfinder defective 6-disc cd player. The manufacturer of this product should be made aware that it is a defective part and needs to be recalled. There are over 400 complaints on one website stating this fact. Http://forum.ecoustics.com/cgi-bin/bbs/show.pl?4/137782 please help.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact noticed a fuel odor near the fuel tank, but did not observe any fuel leaking from the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 127,700.
Fuel filler neck corrosion results in leak in fuel, evaporative, and emissions systems.fuel will leak after filling gas tank, creating serious fire hazard while driving.recall was issued for 1997-2001 pathfinders, but should likely be expanded to include pathfinders through 2004, which use same design.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder.the contact stated that there was a fuel leak under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the fuel filler line was corroded and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 181,000 and the current mileage was 181,500.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that after refueling, fuel would spew back out of the fuel filler tube due to corrosion. The contact was made aware of recall nhtsa campaign number: 07v435000 (fuel system, gasoline). The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated while refueling the vehicle, fuel started to leak. After inspecting the vehicle he noticed that the filler neck was completely corroded. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 152,000.
Recall issued for nissan pathfinder -1996-2004- steering column- called the nissan dealership and was told that my vehicle was not on some lists, well it does fall within the model years and i want it checked.customer service rep was not helpful, asked to speak with a manager, have not heard back.recall issued for nissan pathfinder-1996-2004- front suspension-called the nissan dealership and was told that my vehicle was not on some lists, well it does fall within the model years and i want it checked.customer service rep was not helpful, asked to speak with a manager, have not heard back.the interior panel lights work when they want to, not safe if driving at night, this occurs very often and nothing has been done to correct this reported issue by nissan.
On 2002 nissan pathfinder the back window above the tail gate will unlock by use of the remote. The window is only to unlock by use of the key. When locking by remote or unlocking the window pops open. When driving an open door light shows up and all "doors" are closed, just the window unlocked itself. Note that over the years i have only unlocked this window by key maybe 20 times.when unlocking and locking i must now check the window each time.
When driving, the driver side door will lock, and at times will not let consumer open the door, contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.the door locked by itself two more times and the door key does not open front door when locked.
All of thedoor locks will lock from the inside intermittenly without prior warning. The dealership is aware of the problem.
Over 40 mph, i get a rear end sway or wobble when accelerating in my '02 nissan pathfinder . Sway reverses when i let up on the gas. Feels like i'm losing control of the vehicle. I was told by an online mechanic that it was most likely the rear suspension links for the rear differential, the bushings are torn or broken. When broken will cause the back end of the truck to feel loose. Inspect all 4 rear links and replace which ever links you find bad.
Details: we have been loyal nissan customers since 1987 and my 2002 pathfinder started making a loud rattling noise. We had it towed to the dealership and the technician checked it out and told us that 2 screws had fallen out of the power valve and were bouncing around in the cylinder, and there was nothing we had done wrong. It is a design flaw that nissan refuse to correct. I am told it could have been corrected for $150.00. The cost of repair the pathfinder is $7,899.99 which nissan north american has refuse to pay. We have talked to their consumer affairs specialist and she refuse to authorize the dealership to fix this problem. After being a loyal nissan customer since 1987, i do not understand why they refuses to help us. I have a 1994 with over 100,000 miles on it and never had any engine problems. I went on line and find out that many nissan pathfinder customers are having the same problem. We kept the oil changed every 2,000-2,500 miles. I need help.
We were driving north bound on 395 about 30 miles south of ritzville, at 3:30 on saturday, may 5th. Clear skies, clear road conditions. Sparse traffic, we were in the outer most lane. Kids were quietly watching dvd in backseat, wife and i were casually talking. No music on, no cellphones, no distractions. All of a sudden, we herd a thunk and the rear tires locked up. I immediately took my foot off the gas and dropped the clutch (manual transmission), however the car was unresponsive. Essentially it was as if i had slammed on the breaks. After a second of skidding, we started a slow spin to the left, crossing the 'fast' lane. We ended up doing a 360, then hit the shoulder and the car immediately rolled, finally landing driver side down. Something on the pathfinder malfunctioned and caused this problem. I am hoping this is an isolated incident, but would like to report it in case this is a much bigger issue.
Car had viration during test drive before purchase. Dealer said minor problem and would be fixed. 8 trips and many repairs and parts by dealer over 3 month period, same vibration problem still exists. Car is impossible to drive over 55 mph due to constant viration that i fear may develope into a larger problem and could cause loss of control on hwy. Dealer now calims he drove same make, model vehicle and it has same viration therefore he claims vibration is normal for that year vehicle.
When the consumer started his vehicle, with his foot on the brake and the vehicle in park, the vehicle jerked forward about a foot.*phthe consumer has schedule an appointment at the dealer to have this problem diagnosed and repaired.
Vehicle jerks shortly after placing in the "park" position.three times the vehicle has rolled back while in the park position and one of these episode's was while i was walking behind the vehicle.i am very concerned with this incident and i am unable to locate any information regarding the problem.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle rolled downhill while in the park position.the vehicle was running and on level ground prior to the incident. The vehicle incurred extensive damage and the dealership was contacted.updated 09/15/06.
Rear right axle seal contained a crack and had leaked fluid onto brakes. This caused vehicle to lose braking ability. Took vehicle to dealership for repairs of the axle seal crack. But problem has reoccurred.....
Vibration problems during hard acceleration and constant vibration between 35 and 40 mph.... Four visits to two dealerships... Unable to fix problem ... Vehicle also was in twice for oil leak.
Seat belts never retracted completely.they remain loose around the entire vehicle, often hanging out the door when anyone exits the vehicle and is caught under the doors.also, does not retract properly around baby car seat.sometimes hangs loose.nissan has and unreliable parts and service department.so far, i have been lucky and no one has been hurt in my suv.it seems dangerous to me.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger side seatbelts failed to retract when releasing the button. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician diagnosed that the front drivers side and front passengers side seat belts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.
The front driver's seat belt in my nissan pathfinder le does not lock properly.i got in an accident recently and the seat belt did not restrain me, resulting in a head injury when i was thrown up into the roof.
2002 nissan pathfinder with a seatbelt defect. Consumer states that he wrote nissan in april about this problem. He states that he has the same failure still. Mechanic informed him the seatbelt retractor didn't work.
I have a 2002 nissan pathfinder manufactured in april of that year.my vehicle does not have the lower anchors for the latch system, but does have a rear tether anchor in the floorboard of the trunk.i can not securely install a rear-facing convertible crs due to extened webbing on the seat belts.i have tried 3 different crs models unsucessfully.i have contacted the car dealership, maufacturer and a certified car seat safety inspection point.at this point, there is not a remedy to this problem.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder.the contact purchased a new child seat and installed it with the lap and shoulder harness.as a result, she discovered that the seat belt would not tighten and/or loosen.the dealer stated that the original seat belts in the vehicle were not made for a majority of child seats.the dealer further stated that the shoulder harness was defective and was a common failure with this year, make, and model.the seat belts failed to engage because they were being over-extended.the contact moved the center seat belt to the passenger side; however, she no longer has a center seat belt and the movement of the seat belts did not correct the failure.the failure and current mileages were 88,000.
The motor in drivers side seat that allows the seat to move forward and back has failed.
Complaint with 2002 nissan pathfinder driver seats only moving up and down, not back and forth. Customer states that this repair is supposed to be covered under warranty. Mechanics looked at it then said it would not be covered under warranty.the consumer was informed the motor was not covered, however the consumer stated his warranty clearly stated that all power seat motors were covered.
Brakes failed. Took car to mechanic to repair 7/24/15. Mechanic replaced brake line and bled system but recommended we contact nissan regarding severe corrosion in the right front strut housing area. The inner fender had pulled away causing the broken brake line. We were unaware of the extent of the corrosion until our mechanic pointed it out to us. We have photos of the area.we took the car to great neck nissan on 9/2/15. After inspecting the car, they informed us that campaign #11v-244 would be repaired and that it had been previously repaired in 2011 at star nissan of bayside, ny. The dealership had our vehicle from 9/2/15 until 9/9/15. On 9/8/15 they informed us that the car had additional front end issues that we would be responsible for, however, these issues would not have been a factor had the strut housing tower not been so severely defective.we had to tow our car home from the dealership because it had no brakes and was unsafe. The car is now sitting in our driveway unusable. We drove the car to the dealership and cannot drive it now (after campaign repair).our mechanic inspected the repair and found the abs box not secured (bolt missing). The abs box moves substantially, it is supposed to be bolted to the top of the strut tower but it is not. In addition, the right front strut is leaking which is a direct result of the campaign issue. The left front sway bar link is broken due to the stress of the right front strut housing issue.we now have a vehicle that we cannot use that is otherwise in good condition. We have tried to resolve these issues with the dealership as well as with nissan consumer affairs regional specialist but we were told that all associated issues are at the dealership's discretion. The dealership wants to charge us two hours labor to inspect the brakes but still deny the brake and suspension issues are related to the campaign
My car wont stop and wheni pushthe brakes it will push the gas pedal or got stock and i all ready have a two accidents because of that first i hit a store wall and damage big time and the second time did a cement post so i need to know if is this car or what
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. While driving 35 mph, the brakes failed. The contact stated that fluid leaked out of the brake lines due to rust on the struts of the vehicle. Due to the brake failure, the vehicle came to a complete stop while driving. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the brakes were replaced. Star nissan (206-02 northern blvd, bayside, new york 11361, (888) 457-6717) repaired the driver's side strut per nhtsa campaign number: 11v244000 (steering, suspension), but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the passenger side strut became faulty in september of 2018. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 96,070.
After 12 months of driving brake pedal began to respond differently after depressing it on some occasions, not on others.steering wheel began to shake noticeably when brakes were depressed at highway speeds.at low speed, brakes failed entirely, causing rear end collision, then, they began to work again. No consistency or pattern determined whether brakes would fail to respond or when they would respond unusually.diagnostic tests initially showed no overt problem with abs when the brakes were responding normally.
- december 2003, brakes became 'soft' when applied - experienced problem intermittently.- january 30, 2004 - brakes failed while traveling at a speed of 25 mph- january 30, 2004, took vehicle to an indepedent service station - service personnel stated that they ... "experiencedintermittent brake failure, that the abs was engaging, and that caused thepathfiner to loose brakes ... That the brakes went all the way to the floor... Allowing no control over the brakes."- february 2, 2004, pathfinder towed to nissan dealer for diagnosis- nissan dealer kept vehicle until february 9, 2004. - nissan dealer stated that my nissan pathfinder was driven by various service personnel, and thatthe brakes seemed normal.- nissan dealer stated ... "not sure if brakes will fail again."- nissan consumer representative advised that i pick the vehicle up from the nissan dealership and drive it... "although she (nissan consumer reprepresentative ) was concerned that the brake failure i experienced was a serious safety concern."
Brake pedal travel allows brake pedal to move past gas pedal allowing contact with gas pedal while braking causing unintended acceleration.dt
Brake pedal travels down below acccelerator pedal.outside ofdriver's shoe got caught onaccelerator pedal as it lifted up on the brake, causing a rear end crash.consumer was driving a dealer demonstation vehicleat the time of the incident, anddealerwas aware.

The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the steering wheel locking mechanism failed to unlock and the contact constantly had to maneuver and adjust the steering wheel to insert the key. The contact was able to insert the key after numerous attempts. The contact mentioned that the vehicle experienced the failure of the engine not cranking upon turning the key over into the start position. The contact also experienced suspension failure in which the vehicle was swaying back and forth with no warning at any rate of speed. The contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 11v244000 (steering, suspension). The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer several times and the vehicle had several repairs performed. However the failure recurred. The vehicle was to be taken back to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure several times. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.updated 6/11/15 updated 7/16/2015

Brought vehicle in for repair due to an issue with the steering.apparently my vehicle has also been affected by the same rust/corrosion problem as previously recalled under recall 11v244000 and 11v244000 although these are not listed with my vin.vehicle is unsafe to drive.
The contact owns a 2002 pathfinder. The contact stated that the struts were rusted.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v244000 (steering , suspension). The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v244000(steering:column). A few weeks after the repairs, the contact started to notice pulling in the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and they advised her that the recall was not done properly. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
Shortly after entering freeway i heard a loud "pop" and the steering wheel grabbed to the right. Due to light snow and icy conditions at the time i almost lost control of the vehicle. After pulling over i noticed the front right coil spring had snapped at about the first coil up from the bottom.
There is a active recall for excessive corrosion in the driver side strut tower housing which can cause binding on the steering column. I received a recall in 2011, but never a follow up letter as stated would happen for the remedy process. I took my 2002 vehicle in since it was still eligible for repair.i was told that if it was not repairable ,i would be told so and then it would escalate to nissan na. After bringing in the vehicle, it is now not drivable at all due to the dealership trying to do the recall and damaging the transmission cross-member that it dropped 8". The whole inside of the tower was badly rusted as was much of the under carriage. In fact they let me drive the vehicle back home (43 miles) on the day i bought it in due to my time schedule was not free for 4 hours to wait and they had no loaner vehicle. A mechanic that was ready to purchase the vehicle looked under the hood and showed to my amazement, the tower was already embracing the steering column in such a way as it was embedded in the steel. We have pictures and documentation.so the vehicle was towed back the following day and they went ahead and did the "repair" on the tower. I was called the next day and told that the vehicle was "all set" and ready to be picked up. To my wifes and my surprise the next am arriving at the dealer ship, was the obvious cross-member hanging down on the drivers side. The gm of serafini had the vehicle towed back to my residence in hopes of this all going away after he was going to check the "paper trail". When we got the vehicle back later on, only then did we receive a invoice (attached) telling us the car was uninspected(false) and not safe to drive. It was given to the tow truck operator and he gave it to us. Their way to settle it was to have a junk yard pick it up for $400.00
Within 5 minutes of pulling out of a parking lot and onto a main street, driving at 20 mph in stop and go traffic , suddenly the vehicle veered to the right. The driver lost control of the vehicle , causing it to go over a curb, up onto a lawn, across the street, hitting a mail box and went back onto the road. The vehicle hit an on coming van, went back up onto a curb and stopped. The driver had no steering control. The vehicle is currently at the dealership being repaired.
I recently bought this vehicle in az. Howeverthe vehicle came from conneticut. It has a severe wobble when accelerting and decellerating.
Strut tower rust damage, my pathfinder started having that noise coming from the steering column during motion. After a quick inspection at the dealership we realized there was a big gap under the strut towers in both sides, and that there was already a recall, but the recall does not includes to replace the strut column, just a cheap, glued-bolted strip of metal they call a bracket that does not even covers the gap.the "fix" used in recall nhsta id: 11v-244 is totally inadecuate for vehicles in which corrosion has take all the base of the strut tower and the tower is already touching the steering column. To elaborate imagine a gap 3 inches high and 12 inches long; two of the 3 inches in heigh were created by material that rusted and fell apart an only one inch if bent displacement. If as the instructions of the recall indicate, the strut tower must be bent back to original position, the gap will be reduced only the one inch that correspond to displacement leavin a 12 by 2 inches gap due to corrosion and it is here, where the recall solution indicates that a trip of steel should be bolted/glued to. The 4-5 inch strip(repair bracket) will be lay in cross position perpendicular to the rusted gap, leaving about 3 inches of the rusted gap exposed to each side. Just like a band aid stick across a big wound.this is not a long term fix, the bracket will fail as well or will detach from the rusted surfaces where it was installed.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the front end of the vehicle began to shake continuously. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and repaired under a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 11v244000 (steering: column). However, after the remedy repair was performed the problem recurred. The manufacturer was notified and they recommended the vehicle be diagnosed by an authorized dealer at the expense of the owner. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
This vehicle was purchased in tennessee and moved to indiana less than 1 year later.said vehicle has also made several trips to michigan.i received a letter from nissan stating there may be a problem with the strut housing which in turn can affect the steering.they made this to sound like a minor problem and to have it checked out if you hear noise or have difficulty steering.a concern would be if you are driving a vehicle that seems to steer correctly, however has a housing that is cracked, corroded and close to failing.why would nissan not recall all the vehicles to have them checked instead of making it sound like the problem is not that significant.nissan's note states they are currently developing a remedy for this condition and when the remedy is available they will send a second letter asking owner's to bring in vehicle's for an inspectionand a remedy.i haven't heard anything from nissan since my first notice and that was months ago.
Creaking noise while steering.....replaced spiral cable.two hours after having vehiclefixed - it started all over again. Now i have another appointment to fix this problem.
Sub frame rooted second time
Tl-the contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the inner wheel met the frame on the left front side of the vehicle. The contact was referred to the manufacturer by a mechanic who stated that rust should not be on the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were approximately 106,000. Updated 11/03/10. *lj
Regarding recall r1107 for deteriorated chassis of engine compartment.on 4/2/14 premium nissan of new rochelle attempted to remedy issue of vehicle that has not met safety standards by personal and professional inspection.basically the engine compartment is held up with bondo, which is stated on dealership service order. The meshing and fiberglass patch will not hold up to the slightest of front end obstruction, causing sever damage and just driving it in the current condition is extremely hazardous to me, my wife and two young girls. I have documentation of the service order from premium and other licensed mechanics that have worked with this recall in the past, along with photos. I am requesting a buyback offer similar to other related cases. Thanks.
The frame on these pathfinders are rusting and show rot that is not except able or safe my vehicle will not pass inspection because the frame is rotted.i believe these should be recalled as the more i search online the more i see other owners going through the same thing.nissan needs to be held responsible for this defect.
I brought it to my mechanic we looked at the frame under the cars front end it is clucking there is excessive rust, perforated steel and disconnected from other parts very dangerous. I bought this car new from smithtown nissian in 2002 i am the original owner. I called smithtown nissan they said they have recalls for this but my vin# car is not affected i read the recall notice r1107 it states im high salt areas and new york is one of them for this type of problem . The manufacturer should be liable.
Nissan repaired strut housing under recall.their " band-aid " of a repair is failing.contactednissan and was told they did what was required.housing repair is coming apart and brake line pulling away.was told buy a new vehicle. Why should i when mine runsperfectly fine. But now its unsafe.so unhappy with their response.
Brought vehicle in for repair due to an issue with the steering.apparently my vehicle has also been affected by the same rust/corrosion problem as previously recalled under recall 11v244000 and 11v244000 although these are not listed with my vin.vehicle is unsafe to drive.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, there was a vibration emerging from the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and the diagnosis was that the front passenger side frame rail was rusted severely and needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 187,000.
Recall #11v244000 applies to my issue. Both front aprons rotted. Confimed by my local sts. My vin # is not covered somehow. Never received notice of campaign. Told by nissan dealer i'm not covered.
The contact stated the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for a routine maintenance when the contact was advised that there was corrosion on the rear differential frame and shocks.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle swiveled to the right. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the frame rotted out and the vehicle should not be driven. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 197,000.
I was driving down the highway and hit a bump and my brake light came on. The strut tower came loose from the welds in the wheel housing and pushed up the strut housing into the brake cylinder and burst the brake fluid line causing the brakes to fail. Contacted the nissan dealership who said there was nothing they could do because in wisconsin the winter weather is bad and the rust and corrosion is not unusual.the dealerships body department said it would cost $2,800 to repair so since the car was 9 years old and had 152,000 miles on it i purchased a new car.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the frame accumulated excessive rust due to high amounts of salt. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and the contact should dispose of the vehicle. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the mechanic advised that the vehicle could be driven but the frame would need to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the frame rust and the manufacturer stated that due to the mileage of the vehicle, they were unable to assist. The contact stated that the manufacturer should be held responsible for the repairs. The failure mileage was 150,000.updated 12/7/11
I went to have my oil change at the garage,i told the mechanic i could hear a hissing noise from under neat, like a noise from the muffler.when he checked he said the catalytic converter was split open,he told me to bring it to the dealer,it should be covered under the pollution control.when i got to the dealer he checked it out and told me ,it was called a tube or a pipe not a catalyitic converter not covered under warr.,but nissan sold a patch to repair this,at the time i had around 44,528 mi.on my pathfinder just over the 36,000 mi warr.so i called nissan to explain the problem and told them i was a loyal customer after bying 3 pathfinder and my wife 2 maxima,i don't seem to have gotten anywhere but sorry.i was told that a regional rep.was going to call, but we never connected.the service mgr.at nissan told me they were aware of the problem, that i was not the first,i hope this will do some good maybe get my money back.repair work done on6/18/05.thank you
Rear frame and suspension on passenger side rear, near coil spring and shock mount. Frame has rusted through in the section of the pathfinder. There is no other rust on the underside of the frame. Condition was found when mechanic had pathfinder up on lift, inspecting as a used car purchase and a fuel smell and delivery issue causing the engine to stall while driving.vehicle has 96,540 miles on it. Again no other rust on the frame in this area. Was instructed to have repaired, before it becomes a safety issue and drive-ability issue. I do have a photo of this damage.
Second time!!
My car was part of a recall due to rust. 3 mechanics from nissan deemed it unrepairable because the recall procedure. They said it was very unsafe to drive and it was supposed to be part of a buyback program. After waiting for 2 months they called me and told me my car was fixed. The dealer was very elusive when i asked him why they changed their mind, saying someone came and told them to just fix it from nissan corporate. He would not confirm to me that it was not considered safe to drive. I took the car to an outside mechanic and was told it was absolutely not a proper fix.
Shortly after entering freeway i heard a loud "pop" and the steering wheel grabbed to the right. Due to light snow and icy conditions at the time i almost lost control of the vehicle. After pulling over i noticed the front right coil spring had snapped at about the first coil up from the bottom.
Should be a recall
While driving to texas last october with the wife my vehicle all of a sudden started to wobble left to right. There was a certain speed in which vehicle did not do it and it was 60 mph. Since i am disabled i had my young brother look into it.so he took it to a shop in houston tx and had heavy duty shocks put on the rear of the vehicle and new tires. When we headed back to california the car ran fine. March of this year the wobbling problem came back. Our son checked it out and says that the rear suspension needs all the bushings replaced but we need to have the dealer or a pro shop repair it something which will cost an arm and a leg. Can i get any kind of help? thank you in advance for your consideration to this problem.

I was driving my 2002 pathfinder to work on monday of this week when i started to feel a slight shaking in my steering wheel and chatter in my brake pedal while driving at 55mph on the highway. After i got off the highway i could barely make a right turn as the steering wheel was very stiff. I checked my front end and what i found was frightening. The drivers side strut tower had torn from the frame and body and was now pushing against both the steering shaft and master cylinder which was bent up at an angle. My master brake cylinder is now supporting the right front wheel! thank god the strut did not snap the steering shaft or master cylinder while at highway speed. I might be in a hospital bed or dead.i had the car towed to a nissan dealership who told me that it received a level 1 repair by the previous owner (i am the second owner) in 2011 and nothing could be done except to call corporate. I did some research and found that the recall has two levels: 1 and 2. Level 1 is a simple inspection, cleaning and coating. Level 2 requires a bolted in metal brace be installed to reinforce the strut tower. Nissan corporate told me the level 1 repair was already completed and nothing further could be done even though the repair did nothing to remedy the problem and now i am in need of a level 2 repair.i cannot believe that nissan can walk away from this after their level 1 fix fails to remedy the problem. The level 1 repair is a ticking time bomb as the so called "fix" does nothing to stop the tower from failing. I honestly feel that nissan has not done enough to remedy the issue and there could still be hundreds or thousands of pathfinders with bogus level 1 repairs on our roads right this minute. Nissan should provide the level 2 recall even if level 1 has already been completed.

I recently bought this vehicle in az. Howeverthe vehicle came from conneticut. It has a severe wobble when accelerting and decellerating.
Brought vehicle in for repair due to an issue with the steering.apparently my vehicle has also been affected by the same rust/corrosion problem as previously recalled under recall 11v244000 and 11v244000 although these are not listed with my vin.vehicle is unsafe to drive.
Vibration present at 20 mph and then again most noticable at 38-40 mph. Dealer replaced driveshaft assy-rear. Vibration still present.dt
Vehicle becomes unstable and starts to wobble (rear suspension) at 55 mph and at higher speeds..feels like vehicle will lose control.. Need to bring speed down to control vehicle.
Their way to settle it was to have a junk yard pick it up for $400.00
I have been hearing noises in the rear passenger side of my 2002 nissan pathfinder se, for months.this car was purchased new. I had everything checked recently, which is when we noticed the problem.we discovered a rotted frame rail where the top of the coil spring mounts to a plate built into the frame. The rot is on both sides, but much worse on the passenger rear. The spring is about to come through.this is a safety issue!!! and it'''s our car,and we don'''t have the money to replace it. This must be happening to many others as well. How can this happen to a kept up, beautiful 2002 pathfinder?? it must have started rotting years ago, probably when the car only had 60,000 miles, and the car is now only 9 yrs old. There is apparently no replacement part for this problem. There is a recall on the front strut housings for rot but not the rears. To keep the car, the obvious, is a costly repair. Nissan has refused to do anything-they inspected the car in 2007 when the corrosion warranty was active on the frame.they should have seen it and i feel they are responsible.they are discriminating against me since i was told "i didn't spend enough money" at the dealer over the years for service.it is 35 miles from my house.nissan says it's an "environmental issue" how?? there is no rot on the front of the car ,including the recalled front strut towers. The car is rotting away from beneath me.i threatened to sue them and they said they are "not obligated" to repair it.they don't care.this rot of the rear frame should never occur as it has, starting probably when it was only 6 yrs old,and be in this condition in only 9 yrs.the steel must be defected.i will ''never'' buy a nissan again. Stay away from nissan pathfinders.the car would probably have run well for another 5 yrs and gone to 250k miles but the frame will not last.what a shame.this is ridiculous.
Front strut housing corrosion recall.my mechanic advised me today thatthe inner shock supports on my vehicle were terribly rotted/corroded.i went onlint to research it and found there may have been a recall of my vehicle.however, i was never contacted.this is very disturbing.i plan to call nissan to discuss but writing you to see if you have more information on a potential recall.i have lived at the same address as when i purchased the vehicle and the same number but no recall notice was ever sent to me.my mechanic said there is a safety issue driving the vehicle and to address it asap.
2002 nissan pathfinder.consumer writes in regards to manufacturer recall issue to buy back vehicle and unsatisfactory customer service.the consumer stated nissan was willing to buy the vehicle back, for only $3114.00.
Not pleased with the way nissan repaired the strut housing recall on my pathfinder! there was a foot long gash that was about 3in. Wide that nissan repaired with a piece of sheet metal ,4 nuts n bolts, and cocking..now a couple of months later i have two more cracks showing up in front of fix that are running from frame up towards the hood. Going to take it to a few different state inspection places to have them take a look at it before i take it back to nissan dealer because nissan is saying there fix is good. Don't know how there fix could be good when they never did any welding and now i have new cracks running vertical towards my hood.
Driving at 65 mph., the pathfinder rocks (wobbles) side to side and the driver is unable to control the vehicle. In order for the driver to take back control of vehicle, the driver must release the gas pedal in order for the vehicle's speed to slow down. There are numerous complaints regarding the pathfinder's rubber bushings that need to be replaced. This is a dangerous situation that puts many drivers at risk. There's needs to be an investigation into this matter.

The chassis on my vehicle was rotten as per the recall r1107.premium nissan repaired the chassis with a patch that is not safe at all to drive.i have had the vehicle looked at again by other mechanics and i do not feel safe to drive my children in the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the front passenger's side tire vibrated abnormally. The contact stated that it was difficult to control the vehicle.there was no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated he parked the vehicle on the side of the road for approximately 30 minutes, restarted the vehicle and drove to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that subframe needed to be welded prior to replacing the lower control arm on the front passenger's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 118,000.
The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that while making a turn at approximately 25 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the front driver side of the vehicle. In addition, the contact mentioned that when making a left turn, the vehicle would shake violently without warning. The contact discovered that the undercarriage of the vehicle was corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the frame was excessively corroded and could not be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v244000 (suspension).the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The front end is all rusted.this may cause the whole front to fall while driving.dt
The area where the control arms attached to the frame/body rusted out making the the car unsafe ti be on thr road. The mechanic advised that other areas of the unibody were also rusting away and advised junking the car.

The contact owns a 2002 nissan pathfinder. While driving 55 mph over a bumpy road, the vehicle rode roughly. The contact discovered that the struts failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was corrosion on the strut tower housing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 230,000.

Car develops a violent wobble at 55-75 mph when you engage or release the gas pedal.this is a problem on all nissan pathfinders after approximately 100k miles.the rear trailing arm link bushings need to be replaced every 100k miles in order to avoid this dangerous condition.the cost to do this for all 8 bushings is $650-$1000, depending on where you get it done.the dealership refuses to replace just the bushings and only sells the entire trailing arm link.thus, the cost at the dealership can exceed this estimate.many savvy owners have sought aftermarket polyurethane bushings to eliminate this problem and avoid having to replace the bushings every 100k miles.this should be a recall because it is an extremely dangerous wobble.i would expect that many accidents have occurred due to this condition and it is often reported as "driver lost control of vehicle."unfortunately, it is not the driver's fault when the vehicle become highly unstable at high speeds due to the excessive play in the suspension from this design.there are tsbs regarding this condition, yet nissan has failed to fix it.
2002 pathfinder started swaying all over the place on freeway. Take foot off gas and it calms. Took to mechanic and it was the bushings/bearings. Replaced them for a total of $380. Also, have had to replace driver and passenger side window motors...twice!!
When hitting a pothole or bump, vehicle makes a loud noise due to rear coil springs compressing, this causes vehicle to swerve side to side. Took to dealer who indicated it was the characteristic of vehicle. *jg
While driving two tires blewout, vehicle lost control, resulting in a collision with a tree.
I wrote a letter and filed a complaint about a perforated rust frame on my 2002 nissanpathfinder with 118,000 miles. I had problems with the front end brought to where i purchased 18 years ago to have a recalled performed on the air bag for safety but my rusted frame is not recalled. The smithtown dealership owned by joseph o rubio that i purchased and just brought my to car to get it serviced. The service tech andrew lisske told me not to drive my nissan pathfinder for safety reasons because the frame is rotted but chnaged my air bag for a recallthen he said my vehicle it is old and they don't make cars like they used to . Attachesis the service ticket. I was driving and the front passenger end was hoping while going over 40 miles an hour. I wrote and spoke to someone not i have documatation.

When driving 35 mph vehicleaccelerated. Consumer took vehicle to the dealership to be inspected, and mechanic was unable to resolve the problem.
The throttle on the vehicle stuck when parking the vehicle.the vehicle "flew" into my place of business barely missing an employee.the vehicle has $9,500 worth of damage and i am terrified that the throttle will again stick after the body work is completed.although there was considerable damage to the front, side, and back the air bag also did not deploy and i wound up with a brokewrist.i want to know where i can get assurance that the throttle will not agai n stick.
2002 nissan pathfinder experiencing problems with sudden acceleration.*mrconsumer had the cruise control disconnected to see if that will solve the problem.
I was completely stopped and had been for a few minutes.suddenly, my car began to rev up fast then accelerated forward.my foot was on the brake, which did nothing.i tried turning to the right to avoid hitting the car ahead of me.i was unable to avoid hitting his car and my car would not stop with the brakes engaged.approximately $8000 of damage was done to my car.
With the automatic transmission in reverse and my foot on the brake, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to around 6000 rpm while backing into a parking space. I came within a foot of the bumper of the vehice parked in the space behind the one that i was parking in. I had to turn the ignition switch off to stop the vehicle as the brakes would not stop it. I re-started the vehicle in "park" and the engine was still racing at about 4500 rpm. I turned the ignition off again and re-started the vehicle and this time the engine idled normally. I took the vehicle to the nissan dealer in toms river, nj on july 2, 2003 and explained what had happened along with the fact that the "service engine soon" light was on. The dealer was unable to find a problem and stated on the repair form "tech test drove vehicle and also checked to stored failure codes. No codes detected, unable to duplicate sudden acceleration issue". When i picked the vehicle up, they told me that the vehicle was fine and safe to drive. I also contacted nissan consumer affairs on the day of the incident and after picking up the vehicle from the dealer. On both occasions, nissan stated that they were not aware of any sudden acceleration problem with the 2002 pathfinder and that there was nothing else that they could do if the dealer was unable to diagnose and repair the problem. I made both nissan and the dealer aware of the fact that there were two (2) complaints of this type on your web site for the 2002 pathfinder and i even gave the dealer a copy of the complaints that i printed from your site. I also see on your site that there are five (5) complaints of sudden acceleration for the 2001 pathfinder and three (3) complaints for the 2000 model year. I hope that your agency will investigate my complaint, as nissan and the dealer both state that there is no problem of sudden acceleration with the nissan pathfinder.
I own a 2002 nissan pathfinder, 4wd, automatic transmission.the vehicle has 167000 miles.i have never previously had a problem with the vehicle.i was driving the vehicle on 7 may2011.i was doing 35 mph and noticed that the vehicle was not slowing after i took my foot off of the accelerator pedal.i tapped and released the accelerator pedal and still the vehicle did not slow.i immediately shut off the ignition and, although lacking power, stopped the vehicle.i started the engine after my stop.the engine revved to 6000 rpm plus.i shut off the ignition and started the engine again.it again revved to 6000 rpm plus.i worked the throttle cable by hand, pumped the accelerator pedal several times.it started normally and rpm was normal - approx. 800 rpm.i drove home without mishap.i took the vehicle to my dealer on 9 may 2011.was told that problem occurred with mechanic driving the vehicle.the idle control valve and throttle cable were replaced.dealer states that he is 90% certain that this will have resolved/fixed the problem.
Accelerator stuck as i was exiting the freeway. The vehicle became very hard to stop. After shutting off the engine and restarting the engine raced to high rpm's before i shut it off. Will take to the mechanic.

There is nothing in the owners manual or any where that states vehicle shuts off at 95 mph.please describe further.
I was driving on a highway when i realized my car was accelerating quickly without my foot on the gas pedal. I put my foot on the brake to slow it down to 65. At the same time i moved the rug back in case it was caught, but that was not the problem and i also tapped the gas pedal to see if it was stuck and it was not. I continued to drive for 15 miles with my foot on the brake the entire time until i exited the highway and was able to enter a parking lot where i depressed the brake as hard as i could. The car was shaking and the engine was revving and the car was trying to push forward. I was afraid putting it in neutral would not work so i threw it in to park and the engine continued to rev as the car jerked to a stop. I put on the emergency brake and turned it off. As i exited the car, i could smell burning and moved away from the car. I was shaking uncontrollably and broke down after that. I called the nissan dealer that services my car to say what happened and it would be towed there. I called my insurance roadside assistance to tow the car. The tow truck driver turned the car on to put it in neutral and it immediately began revving up again so he turned it off and popped the hood and showed me where the throttle was and the wires going to it and he fiddled with those and started the car again and he put it in neutral and towed it to the dealership.
When depressing the brake pedal, due to its position and the travel of the brake pedal i also depressed the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to lurch foreward.
While driving rear window fell out. Dealer has yet to be contacted, please provide further details.
2002 pathfinder started swaying all over the place on freeway. Take foot off gas and it calms. Took to mechanic and it was the bushings/bearings. Replaced them for a total of $380. Also, have had to replace driver and passenger side window motors...twice!!
1. Driving in wet snowy weather with wiper blades engaged in continuous slow operation, 40 kmph.2. Wiper linkage to motor disengaged, wipers ceased to function, visibility was immediately blocked.3. Linkage was replaced.
