Car veered off road to right unexplainable causing me to hit a guard rail dead on the end.airbags never deployed either.i thought i did something but got the recall notice right after my accident.unfortunately, i had already settled with the insurance company on a payout and they took possession of the car so i have no way of verifying that this is what caused it but i honestly believe it was!
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. While the contact was driving 2 mph and making a left turn, another vehicle crashed into the driver's side of the contact's vehicle. The driver's air bag deployed with force, which impacted the contact's right eye. The contact sustained bruises and head injuries that required stitches and medical treatment. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 207,000.
- the contact stated that while driving the 2000 nissan pathfinder withn current mileageat 106,947 the gas pedal became stuck.as a result of the gas pedal being stuck the vehicle crashed into a tree and a fence.upon impact, the airbags nevered deployed.
Mysixteen year old son along with my seven year old son were driving my carwhen car started wobbling, he lost control going approximately 60 miles an hour, over corrected and went head first into trees and the air bag did not deploy.fortunately my sons were wearing seatbelts and did not sustain any major injuries, just bumps and bruises.the car then hit on the drivers side after the frontal impact then hit on the rear.my car was totaled.at no time did the air bag on the drivers side deploy.if not for the seat belts, my children could have been seriously injured and my son driving did hit the steering wheel, and the air bag would have prevented this had it deployed.i would say this was definitely a defect with the car.
Misconstruction of roadway.
While driving a smell began to suffocate the consumer, and impaired his/her vision as the smoke diffused throughout the vehicle.mrthe consumer pulled over and then noticed flames coming from the rear of the vehicle.the consumer distinguished the fire and inspected the area and noticed the interior light was damaged.mrscc
2000 nissan pathfinder is in park and the key won't turn in the ignition switch.the key isn't stuck it just won't turn.have tried moving the steering wheel from side to side and have tried a different key.it still won't budge.
Ignition key switch fails to turn.a new key was purchased at the cost of $100 and it also does not turn in the ignition switch.the 2000 nissan pathfinder has approximately 75k miles.this appears to be a common failure mode with nissan.the cost for parts and labor for a new ignition key switch is around $300.but how long will this part take to also fail.? i have had vehicles with over 200k miles and never had a problem with a key switch. Why does this part fail abnormally?the vehicle is used normally, no excessive restarting to cause excessive wear of the switch.only 2 other keys are attached to the key ring, so could not wear due to additional weight on the tumblers internal to the key switch.
Ignition lock refused to turn with coded, correct key inserted. Second key also failed to turn ignition.dealer removed switch, sent lock out and reinstalled repaired ignition lock.cost $300.on jan. 21, 2005, vehicle again would not start.dealer removed ignition lock and ordered new.part on backorder until feb. 18.vehicle still at dealers.$350 plus is the estimate for repairs.
I heard a rubbing sound and the passenger side front brake was acting unusual so i took my truck to my mechanic assuming it needed brakes. When the driver front wheel was taken off it was ovious that my brake pad was fine. It was noted that my tires were wearing unevenly and it was also very very ovious that the entire wheel wheel area was corroded, rusted and missing. There was a extremely large hole being the wheel area. Looking further it was noted that the steering column was rubbing against a part of the engine area. That explains the rubbing sound and diffuculty turning the wheel. It was also noted that the suspension was rotted and that the engine measured around 2 inches lower as it was leaning on the drivers side. I was told by my mechanic that the damage was so extensive that it could not be repaired. There wasn't any metal available under the truck to even weld any reinforcement to. The truck was unsafe to drive and to take it to nissan. We never went any further with an inspection of the passenger side ect. I did take it to nissan in the afternoon and was called the following morning and told my truck was fixed. I was told they replaced the strut on the drivers side and put some fiberglass underneath the truck. They did say that it passed their 100 and something point safety check. They never addressed anything else. I have been without transportation for a week now.

Took car for regular schedule maintenance to place i brought my car which is autotech nissan at 622 west 5th street nyc, ny 10019. After leaving car for a day, i picked it up & drove three block when it shuttered, oil light came on & car shut off. After having it flat bed to autotech nissan, it was leaking oil profusely. Service manager called me and told me that the mechanic had not replace oil drain plug thus causing the engine to seize. They would replace with a new engine, at no cost to me.i asked if i would receive paper work as to the engine and warranty. At that time he assured me that i would. But they will not give me any papers concerning the motor that was put in the car. The corporation stated that they should have passed the issue along to the arbitration dept.i filed a complaint the same day . Which was 01-31-03.

To whom it may concern,i am writing the better business bureau for help with a recall notice i received from nissan north america. Currently i own a 2000 nissan pathfinder. There was a recall on the fuel filter tube which i had recently had replaced because it was leaking just like the recall notice stated would happen. I called nissan and faxed them my receipts for the parts & labor. I was told i would receive a refund for the amount that i paid. This all started 4-17-2008 and the last phone call i made was 8-12-2008. Nissan sent me the local dealerships to get my pathfinder looked at to make sure the work was done correctly because i had the work done at an independent dealership. Only because there weren?t any authorized dealerships in the area when my car started leaking gas.finally i talked to heidi frank on 7-8-2008a manger in customer service and she told me that i would get refunded the full amount plus 45.00 towing fee. I no longer can get a hold of her. I faxed all my receipts and the proof that i went to an authorized dealer. I have left several messages and can not get a hold of her. I am hoping that you will be able to help me. I looked for a way to e-mail nissan directly and i couldn't find anything. I have tried the only number available for customer service. It is not a lot of money but with my husband in iraq every little bit helps. I will be more then happy to provide you with any information you need if you can help me resolve this issue.here is heidi franks contact # (800) 647-7261 ext. 41462thank you for your time, tammy ward
I own a 2000 nissan pathfinder for which a recall was issued for a defective fuel filler tube. Prior to the time i received the recall notification, i had developed a fuel leak and the fuel filler tube assembly was replaced and paid for by me.on april 9, 2008 i mailed all required documents (file no. 6110921) to the consumer affairs department at nissan north america in franklin, tn. At the direction of a representative of the department. Subsequently, i have made at least nine (9) telephone calls at various times seeking to find the status of my reimbursement request. On four (4) of the calls i had to leave a message (with my phone number) ' none of which were returned. When i did get to talk to an individual (i have talked to at least 4 different ones) all i got was a run around. I was told that so and so would call me back ' which never happened.this has transpired over a period of about 6 weeks and i still have no reimbursement or an assurance that the request is in process.i do not know if i should be communicating with you or some other agency; but i did not know who else i should turn to. Please advise if i should be pursuing this issue with someone else or what other approach i should take.regards, larry l. Robb
Fuel filler tube assembly leaks gas when filled.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that while refueling, the filler tube failed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired for the failure under recall 07v435000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). The dealer would not repair the vehicle a second time free of charge. The manufacturer was notified, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 150,000.if recall was indeed performed, then replacement tube is faulty and may represent manufacturing defects in the updated product. Updated 09/14/2011 *ln
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the gas tank filler pipe rusted through allowing water to enter the gas tank and fuel to leak. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who stated that the recall for the fuel system, gasoline storage tank assembly, filler pipe and cap (07v435000) was related to the failure. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the recall and due to the vin the vehicle was not associated with the recall. The contact was concerned about the safety risk involving the fuel tank and request that the manufacturer issue an additional recall that includes more vehicle identification numbers. The failure mileage was 114,664.

The gas line filler pipe on my 2000 nissan pathfinder was defective and caused the gas to over flow when the tank was filled.there was 2 month back order on the part.this would suggest that problem was common.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder.the vehicle was parked in the garage with a full tank of gas.the contact smelled a strong gas odor in the house and inspected the vehicle.he then noticed gas on the garage floor.he removed the vehicle from the garage and discovered that the gas filler tube had rusted through, allowing fuel to leak from the vehicle.the contact purchased the part and replaced the component.since that time, he has been made aware of nhtsa campaign id number 07v435000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap), however, nissan stated that his vin was not included.the current mileage was 82,493 and failure mileage was 75,000. The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after it was parked. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (russ darrow nissan of milwaukee, 11212 w metro auto mall, milwaukee, wi 53224, (414) 586-3050) where it was diagnosed that there was a crack in the transmission that caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair cost. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 102,000.
Nissan is refusing to fix cracked cooler tube that is leaking into the transmission case causing the transmission to fail
Ibought my 2000 nissan pathfinder last sept. 11, 2003 with a odometer reading of 59,000 miles.i did rearch on this carand chose the pathfinder for its reputation and dependability. I even bought an extended warranty(gold powertrain)to be on the safe side. In june of this year i had to have a shifter assembly at a cost of $670.83, then in july i had to have my bolt-wheel hub replaced at a cost of $52.52. Now this month i having to replace the door lock assembly at a cost of $212.32 that's a total of $935.67 in less than 9 months since i bought the car.three months in a row on repairs.and to top it off my warranty covers nothing.this car has not proven to me to be reliable.i'm a single mom with a son in college and i bought this car for my son because of its reputation.i would appreciate if nissan would refund me some of my expenses.i can provide receipts.thank you.
Transmission failure. My wife was driving the pathfinder and without warning, the transmission failed. It would not move either forwards or backwards. We towed the vehicle and upon inspection by reputable transmission specialist, were told twice by two different inspection shops that the cooler that cools the transmission fluid was1) defective and 2) stopped up and prevented the transmission from getting proper fluid flow. The transmission shops stated that they have advised nissan of this issue numerous times and have repaired this issue on other cars numerous times. The failure caused us to tow the car to a repair shop with estimated repair costs of $3,000. Because the fluid from the transmission was not being properly handled, the parts inside the transmission became over heated and were permanently damaged. There are many parts in the transmission that were damaged. Too many to list here, but i have a list of parts if needed.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder.after the contact turned a corner a few blocks from her house, she heard a clunking sound in the rear of the vehicle.she continued to her residence and inspected the vehicle because she thought she had a flat tire; however, there was no flat.the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic because it would not shift into reverse.once the vehicle was at the repair shop, the vehicle would not go forward; therefore, they replaced the transmission.the failure mileage was 127,500 and current mileage was 128,000.

I have had to have muffler replaced twice, front brakes. Replace exhaust. System replaced both axles, drive belts and rotors turned. I also need converter replaced asap. I went in for brakes and ended up getting this items fixed can't afford. I had to get loan but need converter replaced now. Can i get reimbursed. For repairs paid for out of pocket?
I have had two incidents of sudden unintended acceleration while applying the brake at low speeds. With foot on brake rear tires spun and when placed in neutral engine reved to 4500 rmps for about 5 seconds then returned to normal. Second incident resulted in vehicle going through red light at intersection with a near collision with another vehicle. Vehicle inspected by dealer who claims they cannot "duplicate problem." consumer rep. For nissan said that they would do nothing else unless the auto is in an accident.
Anti- lock brakes are not operating correctly on wet pavement. Upon depressing the brake pedal,anti- lock sensors activate, causing the brake pedal to become very hard, andresulting in extended stopping distance. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer unable to determine the cause. Please provide any further details.
When applying absbrakes they do not engage. Cause unknown. Dealer has yet to bee contacted. Please provide any further information.
While driving my suv i heard a loud bang, inmediatelly after that, the suv turned abruptly to the right.i tried to maintain on my lane but it was useless.the vehicle kept turning right.i pressed the brakes, and then the vehicle skidded on the wet pavement slamming the vehicle against the bridges wall.the vehicle hit against the wall with the rear right side of it.then it slowed down.there were no flat tires.the rear axle shifted to the left due to the crash. Other parts where damaged.i guess the crash was due to the front right lower control arm because it was loose and broken.i had no problems before with this vehicle.it did not gave any signs of wear, neither made strange sounds so one could take it for a preventive check.this vehicle (nissan pathfinder 2000) is only 2 years old!!!
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder.the contact stated that after receiving notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 11v244000 ( steering:column), the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer informed the contact that the parts needed for repairs were not readily available.two months after receiving the recall notice, the dealer had not yet received the parts and the vehicle was not repaired.the contact did not feel safe driving the vehicle knowing a faulty strut housing was in the steering system.the contact had not experienced a failure. Nissan usa refuses to acknowledge that they is a recall on my vehicle, although the nhtsa records shows there is a recall because of the danger of steering column breakage.the steering column broke while my daughter was driving but nissan says there is no recall and it would not repaid my vehicle. Mechanical recall of november 2011 was never completed properly. On or about dec. 21, 2014, the steering column broke while my wife and daughter were in the car. My mechanic inspected the call after the incident. He is willing to submit an affidavit stating that the recall was never properly completed. I have photos showing the un-repaired steering and housing that was supposed to have been repaired. The photos clearly indicate repairs were not done as required by the recall. Nissan usa insists it has no obligation to make repair....updated 02-03-15 the mechanic examined the vehicle and saw breakage in the rusty metal housing near the steering column, which allowed water from the road to enter the area of the steering column. My pathfinder was "fixed" in 2011 for the recall 11v244000. Upon driving the vehicle the steering became problematic when turning left or right. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the supposed fix from nissan for this, was a joke. This vehicle had no business being on the road. The strut housing collapsed. You can look in the fender well and see the engine compartment!!! vehicle not able to be driven. Complaint made to consumer affairs.

2000 nissan pathfinder major front drivers strut tower corrosion, caused steering column to snap.
I own a 2000 nissan pathfinder le, with 149,000 miles, which is now out of warranty.tues 7/27/10, while pulling out of a parking space, i lost steering control. Find steering column is snapped.tow to mechanic, who discovers the shock tower, which is part of the frame (uni-body design), has sheared away from the rest of the wheel-well.the shock tower has pushed up into the steering column, causing it to break.mechanic gave estimate of $640.00 for steering, and at least $1700.00 for the wheel-well, which is a body shop repair. Also suggested to call nissan to see if there a recall on wheel-wells as this is a safety issue, and is not the first time hehas heard of this problem. This is not normal wear and tear, it is a design flaw. Control arms just below tearing in frame, if tearing continued, wheel could also become dislodged, in addition to loss of steering. Nissan was called, and wants vehicle towed to dealership for verification at my expense, and in addition pay for diagnostic service.apparently, i am at their mercy, however how can they give me an unbiased diagnostic, as i am sure the results will be in their favor.i am now at a standstill as the repairs will apparently outweigh the value of the vehicle, which is $4125 trade-in value.however, if this happened on one side, it is reasonable to believe that will occur on the other, doubling cost of repairs.
The contact stated that while making turns at any speed, a noise that sounded similar to banging pieces of metal could be heard coming from the front end. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, who stated that the front struts were separating from the frame, causing the steering failure. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the dealer was not authorized to perform the repairs associated with nhtsa campaign id number 11v244000 (steering: column). The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 130,000.
Recall r1107 pertains to interstate towers.were repaired had in shop fromdec 22 2011 - jan 4 2012.complaint: we were informed that the vehicle was properly repaired at this time.after i inspected my vehicle i found that they plated the left side, and they left a hole in the frame rail.they said they could not fill a hole without being held liable.right side was just sprayed with undercoat.picture shows undercoat inside of frame rail badly rotted out and no repairs made.also there is a 6" hole in right rear frame rail around spring mount which is a common problem in other pathfinders.i had a 1992 pathfinder that upper frame rail rotted out and upper trailing arm mounts ripped out of frame and rear end was ripped loose.nissan said our 2000 pathfinder claim has been closed (satisfied) and we have no recourse. We feel nissan should buy this vehicle from us under their level three plan.we just paid this vehicle off and bought it from the dealer five years who did all the maintenance work on it prior to us buying it and this vehicle has always been taken care of.we were planning on driving this vehicle for years and now it is a safety hazard.i won't drive it because my grandchildren are in my vehicle daily.my husband is a mechanic and has been all of his life.we have pictures that can be emailed to you.we have contacted nissan and so far they have been no help.we would appreciate any help you can provide.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated she heard a noise within the steering column while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed her that the front driver's side strut tower was severely corroded. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was again informed that the front driver's side strut tower was corroded. The vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 11v244000 (steering:column). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 149,000.
My pathfinder was fixed for recall r1107 strut tower corrosion salt about 18,000 miles ago. The exact same issue came back and they said because it was already addressed they will not revisit it. This is insane. I could understand if it was from other causes, but if their "repair" did not truly repair it, how it it ok to say it was fixed? i've had cars 3 times the age of this one never have frame rust issues. This is a huge disappointment that nissan just does not care.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited an abnormal squeaking. The contact discovered that the driver side strut tower weld was fractured and causing the contact to loose steering abilities. In addition, there was also an abnormal rubbing noise heard when turning the steering wheel. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired.the current and failure mileage was approximately 135,000. Updated 04/15/11*ljupdated 09/16/11
I have had 2001 nissan pathfinder for 18months . My 18 yr old daughter complained of a problem with front drivers side wheelfeeling very funny and abs light on. Itook car to service stating and was told chassis was completely rotted away leaving shock to go up into motor and pulling away the abs cord. Nothingwas on the bottom of car. You could see clearly into the motor from the wheel well. I immediately called nissan consumer affairs as truck only has 62,000 miles and chassis should nothave rotted off making it dangerous to drive. Service station said do not drive unless a chassis can be welded. Brought truck to siny nissan srv. Center as directed by nissan consumer affairs and nissan themselves said do not drive this vehicle for safety. Ie wheel could lock up asframe pulled away and pulled abs and shock was going up toward motor as frame rotted away and nothing to hold shock. I reported findings to nissan customer srv and they needed some time to research.i emailed nissan pictures of the frame that no longer was there and they were in touch with nissan in siny to see what the finding were. I had the car welded as nissan does not do welding and sent thebill along with the pictures to nadia claims specialist file no 6834802. I was told that since vehicle was past warranty they were no longer responsible for repair.my daughter could have been killed on a highway as there was no frame to a vehicle with 62,000 miles on it. I was told by nissanthemselves not to drive as it was dangerous.who would purchase a vehicle with 52000 miles for 6800 and after 10,000 pose a risk to theirselves or family members if they knew this could happen.not only are they responsible for the repairs but i no longer want this vehicle. I should havebeenreimbursed as this was a manufacturers defect and the abs and shock repaired (which was not. Nissan and their group feels this is not warranted.i feel they are very responsible as does their own specialists in siny.
Also after having the previously mentioned problem fixed, 1 week later i noticed the following: my 2000 nissan pathfinder seemed excessively bumpy and the steering seemed very stiff at times after hitting a pothole. I took it into my mechanic and was told that the frame has rusted through where the wheel well is attached to a strut mount. The strut is loose (causing the bumpy ride) and the strut is pressing against the steering system causing the steering to be stiff.i was told that if i continued to drive it and went over a bump, the strut could plunge through the hood. I feel that this is a safety issue that could cause a serious or fatal accident if i were to hit a pothole at on a highway at a high rate of speed. After investigating the incident further, i have come to find out that this is a structural defect issue with pathfinders and the and the cause was that the frame rusted through.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 11v244000 (steering, suspension). The dealer diagnosed that the frame had separated into the steering column, which potentially fractured. There was extensive rust and corrosion. The dealer kept the vehicle for further diagnostic testing. The contact was eventually provided with a loaner vehicle. The dealer refused to remedy the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified and indicated that a dealer should be able to provide the remedy for the repair. The failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the steering wheel and the front end felt loose. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, which located the failure at the driver's side front strut housing. The strut housing was corroded and caused the strut tower housing to fracture. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the manufacturer failed to advised her of nhtsa campaign number 11v244000 (steering, suspension) and she was not aware if the vehicle was included in the recall. The failure and current mileage was 183,000....updated 08/22/13

Took a left hand turn into alley, driver side strut tower broke free from inner fender, busted steering shaft.had to have the vehicle towed, to auto body shop.inner fender needed to be replace. Steering arm also needed replacing. An alignment was also needed after the repair.corrosion was the causeauto body shop applied coating to the inner fender so that this would not happen again. Total cost of everything was around 2500 dollars.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle exhibited an abnormal noise and the contact took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer stated that the suspension was completely rusted and it would cost over $2000 to repair. The contact had previously received notification of nhtsa campaign id numbers: 11v244000 (suspension: front) and 11v244000 (steering: column), in which the vehicle was repaired under both recalls. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that they would send out a representative to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 176,000.
I took my vehicle for a recall free of charge. The nissan dealer said that they cannot repair it because it is too expensive and the card does not worth it. They refuse to give my car back because they said by the law they cannot give it back without repair it. It has been 2 weeks already. They screwed everything because i need my car to work. They told me that i can have a car but i need to pay 20 dollars daily. It is that acceptable. Why they refuse to give me my car back. I had drove my car for more than 8 years without any problem. I give maintenance to my car really well and just bought new tires. I am very upset about it. How long it will take to resolve it. I do not need money for my car i need my car back because i need it. I have to loan a car from my cousin to go to work and dropped my child to school.
We purchased a new 2000 nissan pathfinder in march of 2000.the vehicle has 116,000 miles on it and has been driven exclusively on urban roadways and highways (no off-road usage).there has been no unusual usage of the vehicle.we have not used it for towing or transport of heavy or corrosive materials.the vehicle has never been involved in any accidents.the vehicle has been maintained per the manufacturer requirements. When not in use, the vehicle is stored in a garage.the vehicle has been regularly evaluated and inspected by nissan mechanics during the free inspections offered by nissan dealerships. They never reported any serious problems with the vehicle.about a month ago, we developed a noise in the front end when turning the vehicle.we took it to adealership for an evaluation.the dealership determined that a portion of the frame was severely corroded and had cracked.i immediately requested that they inspect the rest of the frame for corrosion.they refused and told me that any repair would have to be made by a body shop.they said the vehicle was no longer under warranty. . after picking up the vehicle i immediately drove the vehicle to an auto body shop for evaluation and repair. The auto body shop removed the engine from the vehicle and inspected the frame.they found extensive corrosion of the frame. There are many locations in the frame where it has rusted completely through. The vehicle manufacturer must have improperly or inadequately applied anti-corrosive materials to the frame. It is obvious nissan is aware of corrosion issues with pathfinder frames.nissan repaired a corrosion related problem with the strut housing while the car was at the dealership. There are numerous references to pathfinder frame corrosion on the internet.
In december 2014, nhtsa's website said there was a recall on my vehicle. It now says there is no recall. About dec 21, 2014, my vehicle suffered the same problem that nhtsa described (a steering column that broke while driving)in the nhtsa notice given for recall (see below)vin: [xxx]year: 2000 make: nissan model: pathfindernumber of open recalls: 1nhtsa recall number: opens new window takes away from vin lookup section> 11v-244 recall date: april 20, 2011 manufacturer recall number: r1101summary:in areas of the country in which heavy concentrations of road salt are used, a mixture of snow/water and salt may enter an assembly location hole in the upper strut housing, causing water to collect at the mating surface of the strut housing panel and the inner hood ledge assembly. Over time, this snow/water and salt intrusion may result in corrosion of the strut tower housing in some subject vehicles. After a routine tire rotation, the steering wheel would shake from side to side during speeds of 35-40 and again at 50-65.steering rack replaced, rear diff replaced, tires replaced, tires balanced, drive shaft replaced.now vehicle has a excessive vibration a speeds of 30-35, and again at 50-60.causes numbness and tingling in hands and noted on feet.it is not just the wheel that vibrates excessively, it can be felt on the shifter and down by the driver and passenger foot well.
My pathfinder began making strange noises when turning/driving.it became more and more difficult to steer the vehicle and keep it going straight.after numerous trips to my repair facility and body shop the steering strut (driver's side) was found to be rusted and the car was deemed unsafe to drive.i turned it in to springhills salvage in springhills ohio in july of 2010 and received $300.00 for a perfectly wonderful vehicle except for the rusted strut/steering.i have filed two claims with nissan under this recall and both times they have denied my claim because i got rid of the vehicle prior to their recall.this is not satisfactory.updated ivoq 02/24/12updated ivoq 03/06/12
I am looking for any information regarding 2000 pathfinders lossing control of steering at any speed or conditions, or direction to find this information.i am not the owner of the suv, i am a family member of a person that lost his life in a crash while driving a pathfinder.i am looking for a reason for this crash, autopys showed no medical reason for crash and he was in good health, driving conditions were clear and warm temp.any help would be very helpful.thank you for your time.
My 2000 nissan pathfinder se started making strange noises in the front end about a week ago.upon inspection, i found that the strut tower had totally rusted out and completely separated from the vehicle.when i tapped it with a hammer, it created a huge hole, and the frame just disintegrated.the vehicle is no longer safe to drive and must be taken off the road.having it repaired is not feasible.as a mechanic, i take very good care of my vehicle.it's maintained and washed regularly.this is clearly a defect in the pathfinder, and should warrant a product recall.driving the vehicle like this would be risking the safety of my family and myself.
We brought our 2000 nissan pathfinder in for the yearly inspection. We were told that the car was unsafe to drive due to an extremely large crack through the front left wheel well and along the whole length of the inner fender were the strut mount is located. They attempted to weld it together but were unsuccessful due to the rot and thinness of the frame. We are now left without a car. We brought the car to our local dealer, quirk nissan, for examination. They told us it was safe to drive. We then brought it to a third mechanic and they told us it was completely unsafe and to avoid all potholes. If we hit a pothole we would probably loose all control of the car because the steering column is located next to the strut. This was exactly what the first mechanic told us as well. Nissan is the only one to say it is safe.this has been our primary car for the last year. All other aspects of the car are in good shape. We bought this car new, brought it to the dealer for the first 100,000 miles for all maintance and work. We never took it off roading or on to the beach. It has not been exposed to salt water. We are appalled that nissan has not conducted a safety recall. It is just a matter of time before someone is killed. From what we have read online and from speaking with several mechanics this appears to be a common problem. The mechanic at the nissan dealership told us what we were reading was for previous models not our model. This is not true! i am grateful that we, my husband, 5 month old baby, and i were not injured or killed. Nissan needs to stand behind its product and conduct a recall.
2000 nissan pathfinder major front drivers strut tower corrosion, caused steering column to snap.
Pulling out of the driveway heard a loud grinding noise coming from the front drivers side wheel. Grinding noise every time i turn the steering wheel to the left.i inspected the front end and noticed the strut housing is tearing away from the frame.i googled the issue, found out about the recall, and called nissan. I was told by nissan the vehiclewas already repaired for this recall.

The left front strut housing has corroded and is breaking away.this seems to be similar to the following recall:campaign id #: :r1107;nhtsa #11v-244.this vehicle, however, is not registered in designated "salt states" but owned and operated within 30 miles of 2 such states.
A rusting of the lower area on the side running boards.i received a recall notice that the salt in the northern states (i used to live in pittsburgh pa) caused a recall of insufficient coating in the gas tube area.i believe this same reason for this recall (salt used during the winter months) is the same reason for the rusting that has shown up in only two spots on my vehicle (same exact spot on both sides).
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel became abnormally loose and hard to maintain. The contact took the vehicle to a private mechanic and was advised that the front end frame was rusted completely. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they stated that the vehicle could not be repaired due to the rust failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 57,400.

Gas pedal sticking/brakes not working.emergency brake failed to stop the car.had to shut the car off while still in motion.car was towed.at the time that i was attempting to stop the car, the speed read 45 mph.however, when the tow driver arrived he stated that the rpm's read as if someone was pressing down at at rate of 135 mph - no one was in the car at the time.diagnostic service for not stopping when applying brake pedal.broken cable accelerator.mechanic also informed that the entire interior body of the car had completley rusted; to the point that it is not driveable.
I believe there is a design flaw in the steps on the side of the suv.they are in the shape of tubes, and have rusted out.i had them removed, as the rusted steps could no longer support a person's weight.i have noticed that all 2000 pathfinders with the step tubes are either rusted out, or have been replaced with a different design that does not allow for water to get into the tubes and create rust.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder.while driving 50 mph, the contact heard a knocking noise underneath the passenger side of the engine.a few days later, the noise worsened.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the vehicle was not salvageable.the frame was built insufficiently and was rotted out.the dealer stated that they could mold the frame back together, but it would only last temporarily.the contact found numerous complaints on his vehicle for this exact failure.he believes a recall should be issued since it was a manufacturer defect.the current and failure mileages were 135,000.
My 2000 nissan pathfinder seemed excessively bumpy and the steering seemed very stiff at times after hitting a pothole.i took it into a nissan dealership and was told that the frame has rusted through where the wheelwell is attached to a strut mount.the strut is loose (causing the bumpy ride) and the strut is pressing against the steering system causing the steering to be stiff.the nissan shop told me they could not fix it and referred me to a body shop for an estimate.the body shop told me that they have seen this same problem with several nissan and/or lexuses (lexus pathfinder model - i think it is the rx330).i was told that if i continued to drive it and went over a bump, the strut could plunge through the hood.i feel that this is a safety issue that could cause a serious or fatal accident if i were to hit a pothole at on a highway at a high rate of speed.i contacted my insurance company (state farm) and was told that if a pothole caused the damage they would pay for it.however, after investigating the incident, they informed me that this is a structural defect issue with pathfinders and the lexus rx330 and the cause was that the frame rusted through and the pothole would not have caused this damage to a non-defective frame.i have never driven the pathfinder "off-road."i contacted nissan and they told me that they would not assist with any repairs due to the age of the car.the estimate for repairs is about $1,800.i am having it repaired at my own expense.
2000 nissan pathfinder left front wheel well rusting apart by the strut. Mechanic says it could completely fail causing strut to shoot up through the hood.pathfinder has 153,000 miles on it.

The steering in my 2000 pathfinder seemed to be rubbing. I took it to a trusted mechanic who said that there was rusted metal rubbing against the steering column and that i needed to have a body shop look at it. I took it to the body shop and he said he'd never seen anything like it before but my frame was rusted out and would cost more to fix it than the truck is worth. He advised me not to drive it because my wheels could literally fall in causing a bad accident. I just paid the truck off last year and now unless nissan does something i just own it but will not be able to drive it.
I just found action number pe11004 and would like to report that a similar problem has just happened to my 2000 pathfinder (117,000 miles). I heard a noise coming from the left front strut area and when i and a mechanic looked there was a visible, large horizontal crack extending in both directions in what they described as the side member behind the strut tower. In the course of about a week the crack got noticeably larger and the car is now not safe to drive. This car has never been in an accident and there is no reason that this should have happened. The steering road is now resting against the frame as described in the noted action. Two mechanics have now said that this is hazardous and the car is neither safe to drive nor repairable in their opinion, given the age of the vehicle.
Drivers side frame / wheel housing rusted thru to total deterioration.
I own a 2000 pathfinder. The front strut tower has separated from the car's frame due to rust. This represents a serious safety issue. As near as i can tell it occurred after i hit a pothole. I was fortunate that i was not on the highway.
Sever body frame corrosion causing the vehicle to be very unsafe to drive (examined by the local nissan dealership) and surely will not pass the new york state safety inspection.service recall on the "strut tower" corrosion last year but did not take care of the body frame corrosion due to the same corrosion factor that makes me very upset about nissan. This might be a life death impact on the body frame corrosion where the vehicle might be break in 1/2 due to no body frame support at all. I m not sure why nissan do not take any proper action like the way toyota foreseen the impact on the life death incident due to body frame corrosion. According to many web discussion and forum resources, many nissan pathfinder owners are sharing the same corrosion issues complaints. I m writing to address and to kindly inform you to communicate this experience to the public and this might be in relationship to possible future life death incident if nissan choose not to take care of this body frame corrosion in a serious matter. Thank you for your attention and time.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder.the muffler and undercarriage of the vehicle is rusted from the front end to the rear.the dealer confirmed that there was no undercarriage coating.the failure is related to nhtsa campaign id number 07v435000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap).the current and failure mileages were 25,000.
I was driving my nissan into the dealership for an inspection on a recall it was under. I hit a pothole and could not drive over forty miles an hour. When i got it to the dealership they informed me my frame was broke. The dealership did the recall repairs and said they couldn't repair the frame because the rust was outside the recall area. I have only owned the vehicle for a year and a half and there is no way that it rusted this bad to cause the frame to break. I feel that the frame was fatigued and it should either be fixed or i should at least get market value for my vehicle that i can no longer drive due to it being unsafe. I would appreciate it if you could help me out. I need my vehicle or a refund in order to put a down payment on a new one.
Strut tower completely rusted on driver side, causing loss of steering-just looking to review recalls from nissan and noticed i wasn't the only on with this issue-sounds like this should be a recall! some of as do not have money to repair or replace our vehicles at this time.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that there was rust on the passenger's side of the frame. The contact mentioned that when driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would shake abnormally. The contact then inspected the vehicle and discovered that the suspension frame was rusted completely. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder.the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v244000 (suspension:front), but the contact notified that there was rust and separation in the area that was repaired.the dealer was notified and stated to the contact that the repair for the rust was not covered under the recall.the manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not further repaired.the failure mileage was 124,394 and the current mileage was 127,394.
The vehicle shakes and feels like you could lose control at speeds around 55-60.we have been told the suspension links/bushings are worn out.this was initially told to us from sunbelt nissan in 2009 when the vehicle was only 9 years old. It costs several thousand dollars to fix. This should not be happening in a 9 year old vehicle and it is so hazardous that i will not allow my teen driver to drive this car.it is the only car i have to drive i feel that one day it could just jump off the road and crash if you hit a bump wrong.
Corrosion ofstrut-housing unit on front passenger side propagated to brake lines causing complete loss of brake fluid.
My 2000 nissan pathfinder started handling bad so i took it to a mechanic and the problem was that the front passenger side control arm bracket that holds the control arm to the frame had totally rusted away and the control arm was not connected to the frame. I took the car to the dealership and they fixed a rust problem associated with the front strut recall but did not acknowledge the control arm issue. I contacted [xxx] at nissan north america consumer affairs and she was of now help as she continually said that the recall was performed and she wouldn't do anything else. I went back to bermans nissan in chicago we put the car on the lift and the service manager acknowledged that the car was unsafe to drive. He tried to get his boss to fix the problem but he wouldn't so i'm stuck with a car that is unsafe to drive. I see that frame rust is an issue for pathfinders. Also, there is another complaint exactly like mine pertaining to the passenger side control arm corrosion and separating from the frame. I think that this should be investigated before someone dies, unfortunately it may be to late. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact pulled over to the side of the road to find the passenger side strut had perforated the wheel well and damaged the brake line. The vehicle was driven to the dealer koeppel nissan (74-15 northern blvd, jackson heights, ny 11372) where they determined that the strut perforated the wheel well and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case number: a33362679 was opened.the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 153,000.
The left front strut housing has corroded and is breaking away.this seems to be similar to the following recall:campaign id #: :r1107;nhtsa #11v-244.this vehicle, however, is not registered in designated "salt states" but owned and operated within 30 miles of 2 such states.
The contact stated there was rust and corrosion on the right side of the frame where the control arm bolts were located. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated there was no recall for the failure and the vehicle was inoperable, nor will they repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 139,000.
Car will start rocking back in forth after speeds of 45 mph, enough to make car dangerous to drive.

Original tires, toyo, trampath, 255/65r16.vehicle shakes at 60 mph. Nissan rebalanced, and placed 4 weights on tires, and vehicle still is not balanced, problem still occurring.
My 2000 pathfinder started to sway back and forth in the rear of the car violently when going over bumps.especially at higher speeds then 45mph and especially when there are turns in the road or freeways.really happens on freeways when there is a turn to the left and there seems to be those bumps that big rig trucks seem to make in some of the lanes.the car starts swaying back and forth in the rear real bad and seems like the car could flip over if in the right circumstances!very scary!very unsafe!.have read thousands of the same complaints online everywhere that it is the rear control arm bushings that seem to wear out and need replacing.
I own a 2000 pathfinder. The front strut tower has separated from the car's frame due to rust. This represents a serious safety issue. As near as i can tell it occurred after i hit a pothole. I was fortunate that i was not on the highway.

2000 nissan pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle body rot at the bottom of the left shock tower. *tgwthe consumer stated he made the repairs to his vehicle, two weeks prior to receiving the safety recall notice.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, to have them look at the repairs and stated it was a better job than nissan would have done.the dealer sent the paperwork and pictures to nissan corp. There was no response for two months, until the consumer received a second recall notice. The consumer later found out, nissan did not consider the vehicle repaired because there was no receipts and time slips to indicate how long it took to perform the work.
The contact owned a 2000 nissan pathfinder. While driving approximately 60 mph she heard a noise coming from the drivers side wheel while making a right turn into another lane without any warning. The vehicle was later taken to a local mechanic whoadvised her that the apron had cracked near the drivers side strut. The mechanic welded it back together.six months later, while driving, the same wheel would not reposition itself after making a turn. The vehicle was taken back to the same local mechanic again and he advised her that the front strut would go through the tower and the wheel would come off; therefore, it would be best to junk the vehicle unless she wanted to spend thousands of dollars to repair it. The vehicle was taken to a junk facility. The vin was unavailable. The approximately failure mileage was 99,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
The contact owns a 2000 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated the driver side strut tower rotted and the welds were fracturing from the steering column. The strut tower on my 2000 nissan pathfinder broke loose from the vehicle and pressed up on the steering column causing sever stress on that unit.i was able to notice it prior to breaking the steering column joints and found a qualified body shop to press the unit back together and weld support brackets to hold the strut tower in place.

I have a 2000 nissan pathfinder . July 24,2010 i hit a pothole on i95 north, shortly after that i started hearing squeaking noises, truck was pulling, steering wheel was shaking very bad, i could not drive over 55 mph. When i got home my husband checked it out and that's when he noticed that on the drivers side the shock tower separated (cracked) from the frame rail. Shock tower does have some rust corrosion but hitting a pothole should not have caused this to crack, this is a big safety issue. My truck is mechanically excellent as well as cosmetic. I called nissan dealer where i purchased my truck and he was very surprised to hear this issue, and said it was very rare. I researched this on the internet and it seems that this is a known problem with pathfinders. My truck did not start showing signs that something was seriously wronguntil this day 7-24-201. It could have caused much more damages or even possibly a bad accident. This problem is something that nissan needs to be aware of ....its like driving a death trap and a very expensive job to fix. Buyers need to be aware of this known issue and nissan needs to make a recall bulletin on the shock tower rust corrosion before someone gets killed due to their lack of performance. My truck is in my body shop as i am typing this..i am awaiting an estimate..he did tell me its an expensive job..12-13 hrs labor alone, plus parts. Nissan needs to acknowledge this!! big question is why would the shock tower rust, shouldn't it be rust proofed? truck can't possible be that safe if something like hitting a pothole would cause this to happen.
2000 nissan pathfinder with multiple front end problems. Consumer states that the dealer replaced the air conditioner compressor and did not repack the front wheel bearings. Then the fuel injector made the vehicle shake.the water pump was leaking, the crank shaft pulley was loose and the front wheels were loose.
Ihave a nissan pathfinder le 2000 that in the past 8 mo have rocking or wobbling from side to side (or left to right) when driven at freeway speed (55-75). If you do not let off the gas or make a slight correction with steering wheel, it will get really bad to a point the it might fishtail. It's been progressively worsening even at lower speed, it's been happening. Aside from speed, it can be triggered by slight uneven road or bumps. I have had my alignment, wheel balanced, front end struts replaced which helped a little. I still have to get rear control arm bushings replaced. I have researched this online and there ar thousands of people complaining of the same exact symptom of my care. It seemed to be a common problem with the pathfinder (high mileage-- mine is 121,000) and it appears that the control arm bushings on rear suspension is the problem. This is a very dangerous problem and it would not surprise me if there have been fatality involved.what has been done to correct this problem and i believe that there should be a recall with all nissan pathfinder to correct this dangerous and potentially fatal flaw in their suspension design.
The rear end locked up while driving at 30 mph.first there was a loud banging popping noise, followed by the vehicle shaking. The brake pedal became hard, the driver was unable to depress it, causinglost controlof the vehicle. The vehicle jerked and coasted to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed the dealership. *tc

The accelerator gets stuck in the upright position.it is difficultto step on the pedal without a lot of pressure resulting in a surge in the vehicle speed.
The accelerator sticks in the idle position, due to slack in the throttle wire.at times it takes a good amount of pressure to "unstick" the accelerator causing the vehicle to surge forward.
