My left wrist was burned badly when the air bags deployed after an accident i was involved in. Is whatever is put in the air bag to burn a person's skin necessary? is there another way?

The consumers vehicle was involved in a head-on collision traveling approximately 55 mph.neither the driver nor the passenger front air bags deployed. *nlm
We were hit head on at 50+mph in our 1999 nissan pathfinder.the car was a total loss ,the air bags did not deploy.i contacted nissan and was told that some times the air bags work, sometimes they dont and we cannot put that in the owners manual because consumers will ask ,why have airbags ?was told by nissan that for airbags to deploy i would have to apply the brakes first before an unexspected head on collision.myself my wife and our 21month old child were all injured.nissan said they will mail us the supplement to the owners manual explaining why the airbags didnot go off, that does me a lot of good now that we are all injured.
Vehicle was ina serious accident and airbags did not deploy.vehicle was hit head on while traveling at a speed of 45 mph.

While stopped at a stop sign sign or red light the car starts shaking and stalls. This happened on 3 separate occassions. My mechanic found that i needed a whole new distributor. They found shattered pieces of metal inside and have told me they had never seen anything like this before. The interrmittent stalling is very dangerous because the car will lose power whether or not you are stopped. Please investigate this major problem. I have the defective part for inspection if necessary
When turningignition on consumer thinks vehicle isstarting, but it is not. Also, whenputting car in gear vehicle will roll. Consumer feels this is dangerous.
Electrical arcing beneath hood at rf fender, along wiring harness from abs actuator to fuse block.wiring insulation etc ignited while vehicle parked causing localised damage.
I was driving my vehicle when suddenly the front wheels locked. The engine went off and the power steering was also locked -up and i lost control, the car spun out, and hit the jersey barrier with the back.
The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the engine was making a loud abnormal noise. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the mounting struts were corroded and there was no remedy. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Since day one, randomly, when i turn the key, the engine appears to have started, but in fact, has not.this usually happens after i have been driving for a while, then park, shut the engine off for a time and when i get back in the car, then turn the key to start.i have complained to two dealers as well as nissan corportate with no satisfaction.the problem still exists four years after purchase (purchase date 2/99). The danger is that if i think the engine is running and i move the shift, the car can roll if on an incline which can be dangerous.i have also reported this problem to dot with no satisfaction.h e l p.
The contact owns 1999 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated the vehicle over heated, while driving 30 miles per hour. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated the coolant was low, the water pump was not working, and corrosion formed on the ds strut tower base, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. The dealer stated the vehicle does not qualify for any related recalls. The vehicle was repaired by a local mechanic;, however she does not feel safe driving the vehicle. The failure mileage was 130,00 and the current mileage was 140,000.
We were towing our 18ft boat up a hill near a lake in san diego when we experienced complete engine/power/brake failure on a hill with no guard rail.the weight of the boat pulled us backward out of control until we jacknifed to the left into the side of the hill which held us in place until the park rangers towed us out.if we had jacknifed to the right, our entire family would have been pulled over the edge of the hill and down a cliff.all brake systems failed (foot and emergency) and the engine could not pull the weight of the trailer/boat.the trailer/boat were well within the manufactuer's guidlines for towing capacity of 3,500 lbs.
Emissions control solenoids/valve failure have plagued the vehicle for the past 4,000 miles.as testimony to precision manufacturing skill, they all fail at the same time, i.e., not long after the federal warranty on emissions parts expires.the vacuum cut-valve bypass valve (a solenoid), the emissions canister cut-valve, and the emissions canister vent all failed at a cost of $300 in parts alone.
My "service engine soon" light came on after i filled it up with gas. Was told it was an oxygen sensor problem and then the code was cleared. Light came on again and it can't be seen at dealer for another week. A few months ago i had to get the transmission replaced and the rear and front shocks replaced and the car is only 3 years old. The company says that that happens sometimes. *nlm
Thank you for looking into this matter. While this is not life threatening, it is indee an expensive nuisance that the dealer feels i should keep paying for. My truck is not old enough to have to replace an oxygen sensor 3 times in 2 years.
When making a left turn, consumer can intermittently turn off headlights while driving. Dealer notified.*yd
The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who informed him of recall 07v435000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). The vehicle was inspected and the dealer stated that it was fine. The vehicle began spilling fuel and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the recall repair. The dealer stated that the repair could not be performed because the vehicle had been inspected. The contact stated that the recall stated that the part should be replaced, not only inspected. The failure mileage was 123,000 and the current mileage was 125,000.
Gas pedal sticks, will not push down. Must step on it hard and it jerks your vehicle and accelerates fast. Can cause an accident when at red light by either rear ending the person in front of you or not being able to step on the gas to get your vehicle moving when vehicles are behind you. Causes you to be stopped in the middle on the highway. Can not remember exactly when it started but is getting worse.gas gauge also quit working. Service station says it could be very expensive to fix. Have to judge gas on mileage used.
1999 nissan pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle fire due to mechanical malfunction. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle was fueled an hour before the fire and smelled gas. The engine compartment caught fire. Nissan declined to offer any assistance due to the vehicle being out of warranty for 19 years and no recent maintenance performed at the dealer.
The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the filler tank for the fuel tank leaked fuel when the vehicle was being fuel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who referred the contact to the manufacturer as the vin did not appear in the database. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance as the vin could not be found. The failure mileage was 120,000.
1999 nissan pathfinder with fuel leakage and corroded bracket. Consumer states that the lower mounting bracket corroded causing damage to the fuel filler tube causing fuel to leak. He would like reimbursement for repairs.the consumer stated he received the recall after he had already paid for the repairs. Recall # 07v435000.
When in 4-wheel h and consumer shifts to 2 wheel h, it will not engage. Also on 6 jan 2001, complete transmission failure. Dealer cannot find cause, dealer stated that consumer should exit the vehicle and rock it back and forth to engage the transmission when it locks up, consumer states that this indicates that the transmission does not operate as intended.

Transmission failure nissan pathfinder
There is rough clunking noise coming from transmission. Dealer has been notified. Please provide additional information.
Drivetrain winds up with a "clunk". Tsb does not fix problem, no fix currently available. Annoying and possible drivetrain damage will eventually occur. Not on a previous models i have owned.
Transmission pan is leaking- worried about future transmission failure while driving.
I have a 1999 nissan pathfinder se with 45,000 miles on it. The other day, i had to have it towed to a transmission specialist as the transmission gave out as i was returning from work. The vehicle is in "excellent" condition all over with the exception of the transmission which just cost me $2,568 to get rebuilt. The transmission specialist informed me that i was the 3rd 1999 nissan pathfinder that he received there with less than 45,000 miles on them, all were manufacturedin november, 1998, and that he had to rebuild the transmission on each one pf them. He informed me that nissan had a problem that they were aware of but never brought it to the attention of the owners of the vehicles. He said the transmission should not have failed. Funny, all made in november, 1998. There is no way a pathfinder in excellent condition with 45,000 miles on it should have the transmission give out. I sent 4 emails to nissan without any satisfaction including one to their product executive who did not respond. The only response i received was take it to a dealer. How could i do this when it had to be towed? they were no help at all and failed to indicate any problems with transmissions but how is it that i came across 2 others in one day? these transmissions are defective and nissan knew it!

Consumer can not get 4-whell drive to operate properly.was told by dealer that the manual was wrong, that the selector lever was to be in 'park' and then was told that it was a matter of technique.nlm

I am writing as requested on our phone call on january 3 2015 as you are aware my wife and eleven year old daughter were nearly in an accident on december 15 2014. My 1999 nissan pathfinder had gone back to the dealer in 2014 as there was a recall on strut tower failure in high road salt sections of the country.they repaired the driver side strut tower and half of the passenger side tower the enclosed pictures show where they stopped the repair. This is where the tower failed. According to my mechanic if they had completed the procedure correctly this part of the tower would not have failed causing the brake lines to separate and break.
The brake lights will not go off, stays off even when parked.
After a 1500 mile trip back from new york state i pressed the brake pedal while starting the car and putting it into drive and the pedal went to the floor and all brake fluid went onto the ground in my driveway. Due to extreme road conditions in the northeast salt and snow the brake lines in the rear of the vehicle completely failed i lost both front and rear brakes at the same time. After a $1500 repair on both brake lines and exhaust the car was back on the road again. Now 3 years later the brake lines under the hood have failedthankfully in the driveway, all fluid lost and no brakes from or rear.

When turning left or right with steering wheel there is a quarter of a turn before the vehicle starts to turn and when traveling on the freeway this causes me to drift into other lanes . This delay when i turn the steering wheel and the car doesn't turn is very scary. It is almost like when you hit an ice patch and apply the breaks and the vehicle keeps going in the forward direction
Both front strut housing rusted. Driver side strut housing crack and pull away from the assembly, damaging strut, housing touch the steering column, grinding noises from steering column.
I had the pathfinder tested for the rusted strut mount and corrosion issue in 2011.now it is more than three years since i had the recall performed but i have no way of knowing if the pathfinder three and a half years later is now safe to drive.what is the nhtsa policyon rust-related issues when an owner would like to keep their vehicle but with increased driving time on salty roads, they no longer have access to the recall that was designed to ensure safety?i am at the point where i have to make a substantial investment in major maintanence on the vehicle yet i do not know if the vehicle would pass the recall that it was tested for some 40 miles ago and, more importantly, three very hard winters on salty streets.
While traveling at 40-50 mphvehicle started to spin in a 180 degree turn.when this problem occurredground has always been wet. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated that vehicle was in good condition, even thoughproblem has occurred three times already.
I took my car to the mansfield ohio nissan mmg dealership to be inspected for a corrosion recall. The dealership provided me with a loaner while the inspections were carried out. Nissan decided that the car was not repairable and offered to buy the vehicle for $5,600. I had a few days to consider the offer but was under immense pressure and threats that i would have to pay for storage charges for my car on their lot and also the loaner car if i did not accept their offer. The dealership even threatened resorting to "other measures" which i interpreted as "call the police" if i did not either accept the offer or return the loaner car. We are a single income family, partially disable spouse who can't work with 2 kids in college so i can't afford a car payment or to take a loss on the vehicle. I told nissan that i could not afford their offer because i had decided about a year ago that i need to get another 100k miles out of this car and then proceeded to invest about $4,000 into major maintenance that would extend the life of the car. I was willing to prove all of it with receipts. I was told by nissann that they would never pay me for this maintenance, no matter what. I asked for a copy of the inspection report so i could assess the risk and that was denied.i could not financially afford the offer and could not longer tolerate the stress of worrying about not having a car or the police after me so i returned the loaner and picked up my car and have put it back into full service. When leaving the lot i hear a noise in the front and felt something in the steering that i have never noticed before. I have since heard it a few more times. I asked nissan if this could have been caused by the inspection but they are not answering me. Why would corrosion make a noise ? i'm scared to drive the car, can't afford the offer, can't handle any more threats. Help ?
Noise and wobble in steering. Repair shop said the passenger side, front steering control arm and frame are severely rusted. This connection is weak.should this control arm break lose, steering would fail.
Our 1999 1/2 nissan pathfinder's steering column separated from the wheels causing the vehicle to crash into a curbing.we had the car towed to our mechanic and they did a temporary fix but stated that the vehicle was so rusted out on the driver side that it needed to be welded back together with a piece of sheet metal.we spoke to three different sheet metal shops and all said that they would not do it because of safety concerns.we believe this problem occurred due to excessive corrosion on the driver's side strut tower and led to our loosing our steering.this occurred in july 2009, at that time, we knew nothing of a recall involving this problem, i called nissan and they said there was nothing they could do and there were no recalls.due to the fact that the vehicle could not be repaired, we had to junk it.the car was only 10 years old at the time and always maintained.i feel we should get some reimbursement as the car should have been worth something, however, if the steering column is no longer attached and corrosion is so bad, we could not sell this vehicle to anyone.we would like some type of reimbursement.
Vehicle sways back and forth at speeds above 60 mph.

This is for nissan pathfinder voluntary safety recall campaign 1996-2004 pathfinder in salt states left front strut housing corrosioncampaign id # r1107nhtsa # 11v-224.i dropped in pathfinder in thedealership at the end of sept.2011.the dealership told me that the car was unrepairable and leased a car to me.i have not got any information until march 27, 2012.dealership called me said that car was fixed.dealer told me that they did not think it was repairable, but nissan wanted them to repair.based on nhtsa safe recall compendium(a guide for the reporting, notification, and remedy of motor vehicle and motor vehicle equipment in accordance with title 49 of the united states code, chapter 301 and supporting federal regulations) prepared by the recall management division office of defects investigation national highway traffic safety administration u.s. Department of transportation, under ii recall remedy (page 10) that if the repair period exceed 60 days, manufacturer needs to replace the item with an identical or reasonably equivalent item or for a vehicle, refund its purchase price less a reasonable amount for depreciation.but now nissan does not follow this rule and asked me to take the car back.i don't know which department will take care that nissan is against the nhtsa rule?
The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder.a mechanic informed the contact that the pinion seal was leaking in the front gear box.the mechanic further explained that it may potentially cause a fire or explosion.the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls for that failure.the purchase date and failure mileage were unknown.the current mileage was 140,000.
Un-controllable steering wobble at 70 mph.have taken it back to dealer twice, with only tires replaced.found similar problems on a yahoo website, with customers that have contacted nissan, that have received no fix for this problem.i will send email to your web address with comments from yahoo message board.

1999.5 nissan pathfinder. Body of car is rotting away. Priority is noted at the attachment of the body to the strut. The body tore away due to rust causing a 270 degree tear around the strut. This caused the body to drop 4' and i wouldn't have known if i didn't notice a rubbing noise when turning the wheel (i was hitting the control arm with my tire)... Only thing i can think of that led to failure would be that the shocks went out 6 months prior to it going and they were replaced. Rubbing noise noted 1.5 months ago... Other front wheel well intact but noted to be rusting as well... I had the mechanic pull the piece down to the rest of the body and weld/bolt metal sheet to it so as to strengthen the tear... I'm upset because i only have 146,000 miles on car and it has needed very little work. Now the whole car cannot be trusted and i will have to get a new one soon. I should have gotten more out of this car than what i did... Previous notation from company is that not enough insulation was put on fill pipe to gas tank for new england winters. But no mention of rusting out body so my tire would enter the engine compartment... Seriously, one more bad bump and this thing would have given way. I'm very lucky to have caught it in time.
Extensive body and structural rust. Front strut repair required (imminent failure) due to rust. Body rust appearing in all sections of car. 1999.5 pathfinder.
The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that there was extensive rust and corrosion near the front driver's side associated with the driver's side strut housing. In addition, there had been rust progressing over time on the underbody/framing. The dealer (mount holly nissan, 1513 nj-38, hainesport, nj 08036, (609) 267-2886) indicated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 11v244000 (steering, suspension) in 2011. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was concerned that the strut tower housing could crack and cause a catastrophic failure concerning the suspension and steering. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.*consumer stated the rust problem on the drivers side was supposedly repaired by the recall - obvously not the case. The passengers side shows surface rust but no rust through the wheel well. Updated 11/1/18
1999.5 nissan pathfinder 4wd lx with less than 130k miles started rusting last year and now has excessive body rust. The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. While driving approximately 25 mph, it became difficult to control the steering. The contact stated he was able to drive the vehicle to his independent mechanic where the mechanic stated the unibody struts were rusted on the frame which sat on the steering column. The vehicle was taken to a welder who welded the unibody with new struts. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000.
The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. While the contact was having her vehicle inspected by the nissan dealership she was informed that the vehicles frame had began to rust. My 1999 nissan pathfinder has extensive frame rust, rusting from the inside out.it failed a virginia safety check.virginia law prohibits frame repair on vehicles.the report and pictures were sent from the local nissan dealer to nissan corporate, and they dismissed any liability, saying the vehicle was too old, with too many miles (200k).i have researched this and found hundreds of reports on the internet.the rust is so extensive that you can literally see through the frame in some spots.
1999 nissan pathfinder had front struts replaced last summer.over the winter i started to get a bumping feeling in the steering.it was really bad when i hit a bump in the road.i didn't think it was that bad until i hit large bump and the vehicle would not allow me to turn.i went off the road and when i hit another bump it turned.i was able to get the truck home.i return to have the front struts and steering checkedthe mechanic showed me how the unibody separated and is pushing against the steering shaft.he explained there was no fix and to junk the vehicle, and stop driving as soon as possible.this vehicle is only 10 years old.
I've had the same problem as others with my one owner 99 pathfinder.the front drivers side wheelwell frame assembly has rusted and separated to the point that it is too dangerous to drive.it is at the repair shop now, i am waiting for the estimate for repair cost, i've been told to expect a minimum of $1500.i hope others respond and complain so that maybe nissan will own up to manufacturing a vehicle with defective metal and at least issue a recall.these vehicles are dangerous as the entire wheel assembly can collapse and cause serious injury or death.i took excellent care of my suv, the engine and the restis in excellent condition, but i was totally unaware of the extensive rust until i took it to the shop for strut replacement and they informed me of the condition.luckilyi was able to drive the vehicle home but that drive home caused more damage and that's when i saw that the frame had completely separated caused by the weight of the vehicle and i had to have it towed to the repair shop. I was told that it could have pushed the entire tire assembly straight upward and through the hood. Please be warned, and make sure to have your pathfinders thoroughly inspected for this problem.
I took my nissan 1999 pathfinder to dealer on recall and was advised vehicle unsafe to drive and was given rental and told nissan would buyback vehicle.
I owned a 1999 nissan pathfinder se and in april 2010 i noticedthat the driver side strut well was shifted up into the engine compartment. I called nissan usaheadquarter in tn and was told that the vehicle was not under warranty. I took the vehicle to alocal mechanic/body shop and upon inspection saw that the entire front strut housing was tearing apart front the chassis due to rusting. It cost me $500.00 to have the shop removed and welded a new section. Now , i noticethat the passenger side strut well -housing have a small rusted hole. The reason for this posting is that i read an article on the web from the washington post about the same complaint a few nissan pathfinder owners have with their vehicles. I hope you can help me.
Noise and wobble in steering. Repair shop said the passenger side, front steering control arm and frame are severely rusted. This connection is weak.should this control arm break lose, steering would fail.
The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the strut housing cracked and detached away from the frame. The contact then found the recall associated with nhtsa recall campaign id number 11v224000 (suspension: front) and was informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included. The failure and current mileages were 130,000.
Vehicle sways back and forth at speeds above 60 mph.
Was having vibrations in the steering column while driving 45mph. Even when vehicle was idling it would vibrate. Could feel it through the seats & see it shaking inside. Had the wheels replaced & the suspension tightened, but problem still exists.
My "service engine soon" light came on after i filled it up with gas. Was told it was an oxygen sensor problem and then the code was cleared. Light came on again and it can't be seen at dealer for another week. A few months ago i had to get the transmission replaced and the rear and front shocks replaced and the car is only 3 years old. The company says that that happens sometimes. *nlm

The contact owns a 1999 nissan pathfinder. The contact noticed that the strut tower brace was severely rusted. The vehicle was taken to byrely nissan (4027 dixie highway, louisville, ky 40216) where it was determined that the vin was old and no longer in the system. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000. The consumer did not recieve the recall #11v244000 notice. The vehicle began making a grinding noise and became difficult to steer. The strut tower housing rusted and broke loose, and is rubbing against the steering column.

This condition is dangerous, and nissan won't replace the vehicle. I have only had the truck for three, to four weeks. They are trying to tell me that there was no immediate threat to my life. Severe front end shimmy/ wandering at speeds over 55 mph. Vehicle feels very unsafe to drive on highway. 1999 nissan pathfinder rear suspension "swaying"feels like the car is going to roll over. Very scary to drive.occurs at all speeds but mostly at higher rate (55-60 mph)replaced - per nissan dealer- front/rear shocks/ struts.when this didn't fix problem then was told about rear bushings needed replacing but only 4 of them. Cost $1200.still have problem. Took back to dealer and told another/different 4 rear bushing needed replacing another $1200.have not been able to get back to dealer yet.this should have been a recall-very dangerous to drive this car.
When driving 75 mph on a highway in alabama. The car suddenly felt very bumpy (as we were driving on the tire rim) and then in a matter of seconds the driver lost control but managed to steer the car over to the side of the road after letting it slow down on its own and take its course. After examining the tire, we saw that the tread had completely separated from the rest of the tire, all the way around the entire tire.it remained held together by a few steel threads, but 90% of the steel threads are sticking out of the side of the tire and the tire is completely torn apart at the tread separation points.this is an original tire that came with the car when it was purchased.it is the original extra tire (stored on the back of the car as a spare), that was put on the car in july of 1999 after a flat in one of the other tires.the 2 front tires on the car are also of this make and model (dunlop grandtrek tg35 p265/70r15), and we are very afraid that there is a chance this could happen again and we won't be as lucky as we were to walk away from this.dt

Nissan pathfinder lost traction and making noise the car made a 360 degree turn and hit the curb and concrete on the driver side causing the vehicle impactingfront and back. I thought it was the road and wet condition until i see the reason for recall and per the estimate from body shop after the incident.

Paint is very thin, has peeled off in a few places.not shiny - no gloss.car has been waxed since being purchased.car should be repainted.
Nhtsa recall number 11v-244 recall, manufacturer recall number: r1108.i recently purchased this vehicle which was in seattle wa. I live in illinois and took this car yesterday to anderson nissan in rockford, il for the open recall.i was told that their inspection showed no rust and due to the life of this car, no further action will be taken on this recall.my concern is that now that this car will be exposed to snow and salt, it will rust!! this car is in good condition and i hope to get many more years out of it (odometer is 152,500 miles). I contacted nissan consumer affairs, case# 24193883, who said that my request to remedy the strut housing (i was told by the dealership that the fix is remove rust and then apply paint) will be referred to their regional office. What recourse do i have on this issue?
When turning left or right with steering wheel there is a quarter of a turn before the vehicle starts to turn and when traveling on the freeway this causes me to drift into other lanes . This delay when i turn the steering wheel and the car doesn't turn is very scary. It is almost like when you hit an ice patch and apply the breaks and the vehicle keeps going in the forward direction
Strut housing has been leaking while putting gasabnormal metal corrosion probably d/t to a poor coating processgrinding noises
I recently purchase a 1999-1/2 nissan pathfinder se limited.soon after we had 3 to 4 experiences where the car suddenly accelerates on its own while coming to a stop.even apply the brakes cant stop the car from wanting to race off, i have to quickly turn the ingnition off with the key.ive had 2 nissan dealer services and the toyota dealer where i purchased the vehicle from test and drive over 50-60 miles and not duplicate the problem.my wife and i feel this is a serious problem that can cause injury or even death to us or someone if it ever happens.
