2003 nissan maxima. Airbags was not working on vehicle according to an local service dept. *tathe consumer stated the air bag light started blinking. Two weeks later, she received a recall letter regarding the air bag, after the first dealer, told her there was nothing wrong.
Driver airbag indicator light on dash flashing continuously, and front passenger airbag light on front console remaining on whether seat occupied or not.indicates possible non-functioning of airbag. Condition is present whether vehicle stationary or moving. Investigated by dealer ( courtesy nissan of richardson, texas) and told that first stage repair ( replacement of front passenger seat cushion) costs ~ $ 2100 with no guarantee of solution, followed by further attempt to solve at additional cost. I believe this is a safety issue to be solved by nissan. Also reported to nissan north america but no response.
The air bag light comes on while a 160lb adult is sitting in passenger seat. This light indicates that the air bag will not out in an accident. I took my car to the nissan dealer when this happened and they said the light didn't come on with them. When i got back home it came on after about four days and i have it on video while i'm sitting in passenger seatand the light is on. It still does the same thing now. Also, the car fells like its shaking like sliding as if you were hydro planning while driving. The light i think vds comes on a goes off from time to time.
We own a 2009 nissan maxima that was purchased new on september 25, 2009.when driving the vehicle with my wife in the passenger seat the air bag system turns of the airbag.my wife is 5'5"and 125lbs, well within normal adult size.upon discovering the problem we have taken the vehicle into the dealerships mechanic 4 times over the last 11 months with every time other than the initial visit lasting almost a week each time.the last time we took it in i called the dealership manager and was told that they had no record of our vehicle being in there shop ever.upon the completion of the final trip to the shop we discussed the issues at length with the service manager of the dealership and we replicated the issue in both the 2010 and 2011 model maxima's.we have since called nissan looking to have our car purchased back or have the problem repaired so that the airbag will work with her in the car.at that time we were told that nissan's airbag system was designed to take into account all factors andmake a decision at that time.as of august 20th 2010 we have been told that there is nothing wrong with our car and that the airbag is functioning normally.let it be noted that there are several instances of this problem documented across the web.
The passenger seat airbag deactivates when an adult is seated properly in the seat. It will work sometimes and not work others.there is no reasoning between the ability for the airbag to stay active or not.after researching this issue, it seems that there are numerous nissan models that this affects.
Passenger airbag light came on saying it would not work. Wife of 140 pounds was sitting in seat. It was turned on all the time. She got in and out a few times, the light still came on. The next day it went off and has stayed off since. Took car to nissan dealer they checked it,said they could not replicate the problem. They told me to bring car back if it occurred again.
Passenger air bag light randomly goes on and off, whether or not there is someone or something in the seat.after the first occurrence, i was told that "it was just my purse"; i insisted that it was not and for it to be checked. The lower seat cushion assembly with pressure bladder was replaced and covered by warranty in 2011. I have had no problems until recently, it started doing the same thing and it has been tested by nissan service technicians twice and i was told that there was nothing wrong with it. This concerns me, as safety features should not be questionable if they may function properly in the event of an accident.
Air bag is blinking. Nissan dealership confirmed to be a b1022 code for osc sensor failure and quoted $3,000 for replacement of entire front passenger seat. Multiple complaints about this same problem. I have children i have to bring to school daily.please add recall for nissan maxima 2009 models as well. This is a huge safety concern.
The passenger side airbag warning light came on and has stayed on, and the dealer will not repair for less than $2084., nissan north america has refused assistance for the repair.
Passenger side air bag sensors keeps on resetting as no one is sitting on the seat. I have to tell the passenger to jump on the seat for the "air bag off" light to reset.the cvt transmission putter at low speed with a with lots of noise, i have to give it more gas for the noise to stop.the passenger front door lock and driver side rear door lock does not unlock.fog light on the car is not working, i was told my a mechanic that the relay switch that is built into the steering column is no good and will need to be replaced.
Air bag light come on when someone is sitting in the seat saying air bag is off
The contact owned a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact's vehicle was struck on the front driver side by another vehicle. The air bags deployed and the vehicle was destroyed. The contact was injured and a police report was filed. The air bag deployment produced black markings and metal fragments that caused further cuts and bruises to the contact, which required medical attention. The contact asked the police if the black markings were normal and the police said no. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 81,000..... Updated 06/30/15 ma 08/17/15the consumer stated the airbag bursts. One occupant had cut toes from black shards that look like rocks. The vehicle was totaledupdated 9/15/2015 updated 12/3/15
I have taken my car time and time again to fairfax nissan for repairs and they have not been able to find a permanent solution to fix the problems. 12/23/2010 - passenger air bag light is staying on when an adult passenger is in the seat - reset system. 07/30/2011 - passenger air bag light is staying on .......10/20/2011 passenger air bag light staying on when an adult passenger is in the seat- found internal defect with occupant sensor in seat and replaced. 05/01/2012- etc 01/15/13 - passenger air bag light is staying on when an adult passenger is sitting in the seat. Videoed this occurring several times. Also complained about exhaust smell in cabin and was told to change cabin filter. Unable use outside air for ac or exhaust smell enters the car and creates extreme headaches. Only can use recirculated air. These continued trips without resolution have put a strain on my employment (work in the healthcare industry). I just want these issues resolved so that no injury to my family occurs from this.
Passenger occupancy sensor fault light comes on and stays on causing a safety hazard when a passenger is occupying seat.note the person is not a child is above limit to activate function of airbag? this needs to be put on recall list to be repaired by manufacture, light came on around 60,000 miles, currently has 68,000 miles
Passenger occupancy sensor has failed.to replace you must replace the entire seat bottom which is over $1500.there are many other people experiencing the same issue.seems to be a defect.
Last week, the air bag light on my 2009 nissan maxima started flashing. I took my car to the don davis nissan dealership and they ran the diagnostic tool to find the failure. They told me the occupant sensor in the passenger seat had failed, and they quoted $1476.30 for the repair. I contacted nissan consumer affairs to see if the failure was covered by my warranty or if there was a recall for the part, but was told no. Nissan recorded my complaint and opened a case # for any future recall campaigns. Nissan consumer affairs called me, and told on 04/14/2015 they would offer no assistance.i do not understand why nissan warranty does not cover a failure to a major safety component in their car. Their warranty does cover the seat belts, but not the air bag system??
Recall2009 nissan maximawhen driving this vehicle the front end of the car is not stable feel like the car is wobbling and the tire is going to come off. And i always hear this loud cracking/popping sound when backing up and when i put the car in drive and go forward, while driving i sometimes can her this cracking/squeaking sound and also the tire indicator constantly stays on. I have take it to the shop to be checked, and they have check the air pressure in each tire on my car and also the spare tire in the trunk of my car several times. And the tire indicator will not go off. God forbid if when i go over a speed bump the entire car makes this loud squeaking sound.when my vehicle engine is on passage airbag indicator keep blanking and will not go off, stays on constantly. Something is wrong with this.i do not feel safe with passage in my car because of this problem. By the grace of god i have not had an accident." god blessed"
I own a 2009 nissan maxima. In the year 2016 the airbag light for the passenger seat began to continuously blink and the indicator light said 'airbag off' whether the seat was occupied or not. Thinking the light needed to be reset as my airbags have never deployed i tried this routes. It ultimately proved not to be the problem and the light continues to blink. The car was diagnosed by nissan as am ocs sensor fail b1018 and the cost for the repair would be $2100. The weight sensor in the passenger seat failed.without the repair the airbag system will not function for the entire car. Upon speaking to nissan consumer affairs i learned the the part has been discontinued but offered no explanation as to why. Even with the failed part being a major safety concern nissan refuses to offer any kind of assistance to fix the issue. This part is not exposed to elements as it is in the actual seat cushion. The product just failed and nissan needs to be held accountable for faulty manufactured parts. This is a safety concern that could cause someone their life.
Occupancy sensor for airbag light comes on constantly having error waste no airbag comes on
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the air bag indicator illuminated. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the passenger air bag sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 111,000.
Vehicle pulled out in front going at a minimum speed. Driver that hit the maxima was on laptop thus pulling out in front of the maxima which was traveling the full speed limit.maxima was struck on drivers side causing the whole front of car to be obliterated.bent the frame from the front of car all the way back to back door. Cracked driver side chrome rim in half and pushed the wheel well up into the interior of the car at the place that you rest your foot which caused jammed the drivers leg up into the pelvis.not one airbag deployed, which left which caused the driver to suffer from major head trauma and passenger's neck was fractured.this sounds like a defect.the driver that hit the maxima, his vehicle'sairbags all came out. Steering wheel passenger side and all of the side curtain airbags deployed.so many airbags deployed within that chrysler you would have thought a production was going on all the curtains that were popping out. Nissan, i do not trust them and not consider any of there vehicles safe.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated and flashed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was no recall. The dealer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 87,925.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. While driving approximately 30 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The failure recurred on several occasions until it was consistently illuminated each time the vehicle was driven. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
2009 nissan maxima passenger side air bag issues.everytime i sit in the passenger side seat the air bag light comes on saying that is not on.i weigh 145lbs and have never had this problem in any of our other cars.have taken it to the dealership, they replaced the seat once, it is still doing the same thing.if i can't sit in the passenger side of my car that i'm paying $500 a month to drive, then they need to take it back.
I purchased the 2009 nissan maxima from the dealer, brand new, in november, 2008.several months later, i noticed that as i sat in the passenger seat, the airbag light would come on indicating that the airbag would not deploy in an accident.i am 5'4" and 140 pounds and not a child or even a smaller adult. Throughout the past 5 years, the same problem would happen when someone sat in the passenger seat.the light will come on unexpectedly while i sat there and my husband drove.i took the car to the dealer on 2 occasions (first time in 2009 and again in 2010) and explained to them what was happening and that i felt unsafe sitting in that seat should we have an accident.they said that they could not replicate the problem and unless the computer spits out an error code, there was nothing they could do (even though it was under warranty). Now the car is over 5 years old and has 85,000 miles on it.my powertrain warranty is expired (as it ended at 60,000 miles).it is now that the passenger air bag light stays on constantly, even when nobody is sitting in the seat.also, the flashing air bag light on my dashboard stays on.i took it to the dealer again and they said it's the sensor in the passenger seat that has failed. It gave an error cod b1018.since it is no longer under warranty, it will cost me $1,900 out of pocket.i contacted nissan's consumer affairs department and asked them to cover it?they denied the claim and will not cover the repair.i want to alert the nhtsa that this is a problem not only on newer nissans, but also on the older nissans, including the 2009 maxima.my hope is that this year and model will be considered for an expanded recall to the current recall.this is a huge safety issue and one that nissan should agree to take care of for all cars that show this problem.
Tilt steering wheel locked in the extreme up position when drivers door was opened at approx 2 years/52,000 miles.tilt steering wheel could not be lowered until disassembled by the dealer.driver visibility was seriously obstructed, especially for shorter drivers.potential air bag effectiveness was also seriously degraded.nissan identified the problem is with the steering column adjustment motors (tilt or telescope) in service bulletin ntb09094. However, nissan has not issued a recall and refused to reimburse this first-time nissan owner for this safety defect.there is no certainty of whether replacement nissan steering column adjustment motors do not have the same underlying design defect and will not fail shortly after installation.the telescope adjustment motor failed at approx 1 year/38,000 miles.total replacement cost for parts and labor for both adjustment motors was approximately $400+.i request nissan and nhtsa issue a recall for this serious safety defect.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. While driving 30 mph, a vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed into the front driver's door of the contact's vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for the air bag failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 118,000.
I purchased my 2009 nissan maxima from the dealer, brand new in june 2009.the car is now 7 years old and has 105,000 miles on it.my powertrain warranty is expired (as it ended at 100,000 miles).within the last 3 months the passenger air bag light stays on constantly even when nobody is sitting in the seat.also, the flashing air bag light on my dashboard continues to blink.searching the web i found how to diagnose the error which pointed me to the occupant sensor in the passenger seat had failed and that the airbag srs system would not deploy in the event of an accident.i took the car to the dealer and explained to them what was happening and that i feel unsafe driving the car with an inoperative srs system.the dealer confirmed it's the occupant sensor in the passenger seat that has failed.since the car is no longer under warranty, it will cost me $1,900 out of pocket.i contacted nissan's consumer affairs department nissan recorded my complaint and opened a case # for any future recall campaigns.nissan denied the claim and will not cover any portion of the repair costs.i want to alert the nhtsa that this is a problem not only on newer nissans, but also on the older nissans, including my 2009 maxima. My hope is that this year and model will be considered for an expanded recall to the current recall.this is a huge safety issue and one that nissan should agree to take care of for all cars that show this problem.
Earlier this year, the air bag light on my 2009 nissan maxima started flashing. I took my car into my mechanic and he ran the diagnostic tool to find the failure. He told me the occupant sensor in the passenger seat had failed, disabling the entire air bag system. He quoted me $1,243.00 for the repair ($895 ? parts, $348 ? labor). I contacted nissan consumer affairs to see if the failure was covered by my warranty or if there was a recall for the part, but was told no. Nissan recorded my complaint and opened a case # for any future recall campaigns. Nissan then instructed me to take my car into my local nissan dealer, so they could run the diagnostic tool and provide an official failure report. After i received the report, i was told to contact nissan consumer affairs to see if they could assist in paying for the repair. On 12/15, i dropped my car off at executive jeep/nissan in north haven. They ran the diagnostic and sent me a copy of the report. I called nissan consumer affairs again, and told them executive had the report information they required. Nissan consumer affairs contacted executive, reviewed my case, and informed me on 12/19 they would offer no assistance. Executive jeep/nissan quoted $1476.30 for the repair. My car had 74k miles on it at the time this failure occurred. The passenger seat is occupied a few times a month at best. Since this is an internal part, it is not exposed to the elements, nor is it subject to major wear and tear. The failure has disabled the entire air bag system in my car, which is quite alarming. I do not understand why nissan would engineer their car?s air bag system to completely shut down when one component fails.also, i do not understand why nissan's warranty does not cover a failure to a major safety component in their car. Their warranty does cover the seat belts, but not the air bag system??
Driver airbag light continues to blink on the dashboard.dealer states that it is the drivers airbag (diagnosis cost 119 )which needs to be replaced at a cost of 1100 dollars.they replaced the airbag in 2010.. But now it comes on the car has 87000 miles on it and i have had it since 2009
While on and moving, the passenger air bag on/off indicator light turns on and off, with an adult in the passenger seat.it will turn on (indicating bag off) for several minutes at a time.this occurs with a 150+ pound passenger sitting normally in the seat, with seatbelt fastened.this occurs throughout turns, on straight roads, and at varying speeds.this behavior has been ongoing for years, but i have only now done a search for it. Google searches indicate this is a problem with many 2009 nissan maximas.but maximas prior to 2016 are not recalled.
The airbag light comes on when someone gets into the car on passenger side , then stays on sometimes. As long as the person is in the seat it stays on. When they get out it goes off. I wasn't in any accident. It was like it when i got it
When i am driving my car, my "front passenger air bag and status light" is on; which indicated that the airbag is off, when there is absolutely nothing in the front seat. It will turn off is someone is in the seat indicating that the airbag is on.i took it to the dealership to have it checked out, they told me that there is nothing wrong and the system is operating as it should. They even check for codes. According to the owners manual pgs 1-44 and 1-45, "unoccupied passenger's seat: the light is off and the front passenger airbag is off and will not inflate in a crash." "using the passenger air bag status light, you can monitor when the front passenger air bag is automatically turned off with the seat occupied. The light will not illuminated when the front passenger seat is unoccupied." i read the owners manual before and after i took my car there just so i would know what to expect after the inspection. I questioned them on what the owner's manual said and they said the light should be on if the seat is unoccupied. The tech even said that. It's very frustrating because i need my car's safety features to work properly as it should.
When i am driving the car, with a passenger in the front passenger seat, air bag not on sign will illuminate. This happens on a daily basis. I never took it in and it still happens now.it became oblivious to me because i didn't make time to have the problem corrected, seat belts are fastened and the light still comes on. There are times when the radio completely dies and in a hurricane situations we rely on the radio for weather and highway condition updates. This is a current problem.
Airbag deactivation light came on and stays on for the passenger seat even with an adult in the seat.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima.immediately after purchasing the vehicle in december of 2008, the contact noticed that the air bag light would remain illuminated when the front passenger seat was occupied.in addition, the air bag sensor would not work whenever a passenger utilized the back rest.the dealer stated that the sensor was the cause of the failure.the manufacturer stated that the sensor was not designed to work with a back rest and they were not liable for the repairs.the current mileage was 750 and failure mileage was 150. Updated 03/12/09.*ljupdated 03/13/09.
Purchase car in 4/2009, took car into dealer for air bag light on 12/30/09 again 1/18/10, 6/7/2010, and 7/8/10 for air the bag light that comes on when my 150lb daughter sit in the passenger's seat, and the light is constantly on telling me the airbag is off. She is 26 years old, and she has to sit in the back. I had to take it back to the dealer 4 times.two times was to show them with the passenger in the seat that the light was on signaling that the airbag is off.the manager had my grand's get in and out. Year and months. There were recalls for the 2008 altima, why can i have the same problems. It's a recall and they don't want acknowledged it now. I went online looking for other people and there are some people experience the same thing. The nissan forum said they told him the same thing, and this person complain about his wife sitting in the passenger seat the same thing with there 2009 nissan.this is my 4th nissan, my second from the same dealer. They took my car and gave me a free rental, my daughter got in and the same thing happen in the 2010 as soon as she sat in. I had her get out, over and over again. Fix the seat belt. They called me and told me that they were not fixing it. It is my daughter. I said for 1 year in a half she didn't sit right in that seat. I took my car to the dealer 2 times for them to witness my daughter in the seat. One time was the service manager; he saw the light on with her in the seat. I call the headquarter to file a complaint, they called back and said that it is my daughter. This light came on for my husband, me, but more so my daughter who weights 156 lbs 5'6'. I guess enough people have not called, they are on the internet complaining.

The steering wheel lock locks and doesn't allow you to start your vehicle. This is very dangerous as i live in minnesota and had the sterrring lock trigger which left me stranded in fridged temperatures. This is a safety issue as it happen with out notice and could cause harm or death by not being able to start your vehicle.this happens when the car is placed in park and the ignition is disengaged.
Steering wheel lock/ignition part failed just out of warranty.part# 48700-9n00b.
The car loses power as i'm driving, i replaced alternator and fuel pump i'm at around $1100 in with repairs and labor. The problem still exist i turn car on and drive within 10 mins the car loses power and acceleration then eventually dies. This happenedon the highway on one occasion, very frustrating and scary to say the least. It's not the battery cuz it's also new. This is getting scary and ridiculous.
The car - a 2009 nissan maxima in excellent condition -would not start at all - no turn-over, no electrics, i.e. The automatic windows could not be rolled up (during ice storm), only an unfamiliar "key" light lit up on the dash board.car could not be towed: aaa said it appears to be "steering wheel lock failure", approximately $700 - $1000 to repair...
My vehicle was driven to and parked at my place of employment in the am and by noon my vehicle would not start. I was leaving my job by noon to go to the hospital- sequentially i was i'll. I had to get a ride to handle my medical needs. I later had to have my car towed to nissian, where i was billed for a recalled item: the electronic steering column lock which has been part of recall since 2017.
My family and i were driving south bound on the new jersey turnpike at 75 mph and the car shutdown, it would not accelerate and lost power.luckily we were in the right lane and i acted quickly to turn on the hazards and get off the highway on to the shoulder to avoid a serious accident.this car only has ~16000 miles as well asall of its scheduled maintenance is up to date. After getting it towed to the nissan dealership they informed us that it was a problem with the mass air flow sensor and that even though the car was within the warranty period the warranty would not cover it as they found a leaf in the sensor. We have no way to verify that there was a leaf in the sensor and the car is kept in a garage and/or driveway nowhere near a tree.we wanted to report this incident so that if more incidents like this occur maybe a recall is warranted as nissan's engineering of the vehicles could be at fault.how could a leaf in get in there?if a leaf does get in why would that corrode the part?
I have an automatic door lock that is malfunctioning.it is currently on the driver side door only but from what i have read online, i expect to begin happening on other doors as the actuator's begin failing. Normally this may be a simple annoyance but since this vehicle uses a key fob it is not possible to quickly unlock the driver side door and there is no way to quickly secure the vehicle.there are several instances where either of these situations could put the someone at risk and in harms way, especially if the driver is relying on the safety mechanism to ensure children do not accidentally open a door that has not been properly secured while traveling.the locking and unlocking of a vehicle is intended and designed to keep the vehicle, it's contents, and it's occupants safe and is heavily relied on in today's environment.i have seen estimates to repair this issue from over $500 to almost $2,000, a fairly expense repair for the vehicle owner but a fairly inexpensive cost for the manufacturer.although this may seem like a stretch to call this a safety issue but for what other purpose are door locks intended?it is my request that the manufacturer issue a recall for faulty door lock actuator's.
I get in my car by opening the doors with my intelligent key (in other words, the battery isn't dead). Once inside the car, the key light blinks on even though i had the key in my hand. I can't start the car or even press the brake in, the car won't go into acc mode because it doesn't detect the key (again, i'm able to lock, unlock doors, open hood and even sound off the alarm through the same intelligent key..?) .i put the fob into the slot and it flashes to eject it...now my car will not start and my windows are stuck down...i went to get my other key fob and still doesn't read the key...now my car is stuck and i can not drive it...soooo what i have tried to do was beating on the steering column, making it tilt and all over n over and nothing... Unplugging the battery for over 30 minutes in hopes of 'restarting' the alarm systemputting in the intelligent key into the slot where the key goes (off the left side of the steering wheel) ..still key light blinks indicating i need a key....now looking this up there are alot others with this problem with a 09-10 nissan maxima and the gtr has same issue and a recall was done on that...so can we please get a recall on the 09 nissan maxima so this can be solved for myself and others?
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and all the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering lock needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,000.
Escl part is defective.makes car completely inoperable.manufacturer knows original part is defective but no recall.extended warranty has expired and now part cost has doubled.part was $380 but now is $680 with a slightly different part number.cost doubled after warranty expired!
2015 hyundai genesis sedan.radio, navigation, xm, tcd/dvd won't play.screencomes in and out constantly.battery drains.on my 2nd battery.been back and forth to service. 50,000 miles.hyundai now includes warranty for 2016 models because of these problems???
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the power wheel lock needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available. The vin was unavailable.
I was at the gas station getting gas. When i went to try and start it up the car ignition remains in the lock position. The car will not do anything. In the far left console the key symbol remains lit on the dash board. The key remains lit on the dashboard. I have been reading different forums and it said that it is the steering wheel lock. My car will not start at all and i even changed my battery out.
Steering lock box repair. Extended warranty was issued & needs to be extended indefinitely. This is a manufacturer defect. Consumers will experience this inconvenience at different lifecycles of the vehicle & should be given the same reimbursements/courtesy as other 2009 nissan maxima or altima owners.
My 2009 nissan maxima will not start. The yellow key light on the left comes on briefly. I had it towed to the dealership and was told it is the steering column lock module and that it will cost over $900 to repair, not to mention over $100 for the diagnostic exam. I don't feel consumers should have to pay for a problem that they have not caused. It's apparent that this is happening frequently according to the research i have done. I feel that nissan should pay this cost.
The steering lock module stopped working.i was unable to start the car, the steering wheel and brakes were locked.the keyfob battery was fine, as was the car battery.i hear that this is a known issue with 2009 nissans.i just bought the car 7 weeks ago.had to have it towed to a dealer.they diagnosed the problem.have to wait 3 days for the part.total cost - approx $900.
Stopped at conveniance store and shut car off.tried to restart car and it won't start.had it towed to the dealer ship where i bought it.found that it was the steering lock that had failed.cost to replace was 1300 dollars.found out this is a high failure part and should have been recalled.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when the remote start was depressed on the key. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. The vin was unavailable.
On december 17, 2012 i had driven from my house to the gym. There was no issue with my car and when i went to leave my car would not start.my nissan maxima has a push start ignition and when i pushed the button nothing happened. In the display it kept indicating the yellow key light and the red key security light.i had the car towed to the local nissan dealer who told me the steering lock assembly had failed. If i wanted this fixed it was going to cost me $800.00.i asked the service department if this was a common failure at the mileage the car was at and i was told it was not common.researching the problem it seems that this issue occurs regularly for a 2009 nissan maxima around this mileage range. I was told the warranty does to cover this and it had expired a year earlier. I believe if this is a common problem then it should be a recall item.
I was stranded in a parking lot with freeezing temperature.nissan had to replace the steering lock assembly to the tune of $800.it is a part that has been recalled on the gtr.it has been documented on the 370z.they have done nothing on the maxima or altima.owners of the 2009 are told to remove the fuse to take this part out of the equation and not get stranded.nissan has replaced this part on 2010 vehicles and newer.they should reimburse anyone who has to make this repair. It is a part that is not necessary in this vehicle.proven by nissan having their techncians remove the fuse in 2009 maximas, altimas, 370z and gtr.the faulty part has been proven to exist in the 2009 gtr, 370z and maximas.nissans changing of the part in 2010 and newer vehicles is a direct admssion of their guilt.
The car, while driving, reverts back to idle rpm and pressing the gas pedal does not propel the car. This happened after being repaired by nissan. On another occasion it completely lost power while driving.
I returned to my parked car after commuting on the train home from work and tried to start the vehicle.it was a bitter cold evening and the temperature was approximately 3 degrees.when i tried to start the car, the key icon showed up on the left hand side of the instrument panel and the steering was locked and push button ignition did not start the car.the brake pedal was very stiff and did not "give" when depressed. Also, i couldn't get the car to shift to neutral to move it when my husband arrived to see if he could determine the problem.i had the vehicle towed to a repair shop and they said it is a nissan problem and the part is on an extended warranty because of the well-known and ongoing issues.i am in the process of having the car towed to my nissan dealer to have them inspect it and repair it.they are instructed to search for any recalls or warranty when entering the vin number.i've searched the internet and it seems like a very common issue.even the towing company driver said he tows about 3-5 nissans a week with the same issue and it's very common, as it happens all of the time.i'm hoping they have this part on recall or have it listed on an extended warranty repair.my 2009 maxima has 37,000 miles on it.
Came out to my car; car wouldn't start. Push start/stop button in "lock" mode; key light indicator flashed; anti-theft light in "steady" mode. Called niss. Roadside asst. To be told that it would be $82 for towing to the nearest dealership after only wanting help with battery testing. I put the towing on hold. Called the nearest niss. Dealership directly. Was told that it may be the key fob batteries. My daughter and i walked home for close asst. To drive to niss. For new key fob batteries. Returned back to my car to test the key fob with no luck. Doors lcked/unlcked, windows let down; didn't let back up; it was raining! used my own jumper cables for battery testing. Not the battery! lights worked. My battery was brand new and recently purchased. Contacted my ins. For overnight tow to nissan. Researched on the issue and came to the steering column unit failing often. Nissan ext. Warranty is 6 yrs/unl. Mileage; was relieved. Nissan worked on my car from 7:21a to 3:40p. Told me the steering column unit was out of warranty last yr. Only had the car for 5yrs! took nissan 5hrs for a diagnostics on my car saying my battery was dead; need to swap it out with theirs to run the test. My battery was brand new! 1hr. Later, diagnosed as faulty steering column module. Contacted niss. Consumer affairs and escalated to regional. Niss. Gave me a price of $1071 to fix. Told nissan i would try to fix the module myself and have it towed to where i originally bought my battery due to existing warranty. However, towing was too expensive and fixing it myself would prb not work. Spoke with service mgr. Who said they could charge me for swapping out batteries but will only charge me $1027.98. Total ripoff and nissan lied about my battery results. Took it to my orig. Shop; ran the battery; was in good condition and fully charged! want a full refund; should be a recall!!!! lost a customer!!!!
I was never notified that my 2009 nissan maxima has a malfunction called steering wheel lock failure. My car was on a city street when it would not start, it would not recognize my keys fob, and i was not able to start the car with the push to start button. Nothing happened. Nothing on the dashboard would show. I had my car towed to the nissan dealership and this malfunction is costing me a lot of money. I did some research and this malfunction is something that a lot of people have complained about and i don't understand why this is not something that would be a recall. If this was a recall, then i never received a recall letter because i would have got this fixed a lot sooner before it happened to me.
I went outside to start my vehicle and it wouldn't start..the steering wheel is locked and i can't get it unlocked..the steering wheel symbol with 2 up and down arrows on both sides of it lights up on the dash and a red flash in car symbol with a key in the center of it is on along with the lock word on the push button..it won't go past the lock button when i try to start it.
My 2009 nissan maxima does it seem to read my key anymore. It has a orange light on the top left corner of my dashboard. The car obviously recognizes the key for i am still able to lock and unlock my car. It will not turn over at all. When i press the push start button, the only light that comes on is the lock light. It all doesn't make any sense at all. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. One second it was working, another second it wasn't. I find this highly inconvenient that nissan service departments at the dealerships only provides aid mondays though saturdays as if people only have issues with their cars on monday through saturday. There should be a 24/7 help hotline at least.this is my second issue with this same exact problem. The first time i was told that it was a dead battery in my key fob. I went to get a new battery for it and it still didn't work. It's almost like it works when it feels like it.
In my travel to work i arrived at the local gas station to fuel up. Afterwards, i got back in and tried to start my car and it would not start. The "key indicator" was the only light that was showing on the dash and the work "lock" was showing on the push to start button. I end up having to call a roll back to tow my car to the nearest nissan dealership which is out of state and caused me $200. Once i arrived, the nissan employee told me that it was the car lock steering that was preventing the car to start and that it was going to cost $866 to repair. I had to option but to pay because i need my car to go to work. I have researched this problem and discovered this has happened to several other people that own nissan maxima's and other nissan makes. This part should be recalled because it's frequently happened to others resulting in all being stranded. I had no indication that this was going to happen. It happened sudden.
Car does not start. Difficult time getting into the car while using my key fob.when i push the ignition button there is no nose and no lights.tried jumping the car for 15 minutes with no success.i was told by the nissan dealership mechanic that it is the steering lock system. This is going to cost me for towing and labor and parts. Money i do not have.reading up on this problem tells me that there should have been a recall.
While traveling in the number (2) lane of the us 405 n freeway at speeds of over 65 mph, i noticed that the battery light started flickering, and within 10 seconds the accelerator ceased to respond when pressure was applied. When the accelerator was pushed, the engine would rev, and the rpm gauge would show the gauge moving up, but the engine would not respond. I pushed the accelerator all the way inwards, but the engine would not respond. Approximately 15-20 seconds later, i noticed that the engine ceased operating, and the wheel locked. I was also unable to apply the brakes, as when i pushed the brakes nothing happened and the brake pedal felt very stiff and non-responsive. At the same time, lights on the dashboard cluster were illuminated. I started panicking as i had no control of a vehicle traveling over 60 mph on a freeway during evening hours los angeles traffic. I immediately activated my emergency indicators, and waited in complete panicuntil the vehicle came to a rolling stop on the side of the freeway. During the same evening, the vehicle started to exhibit the same malfunctions as experienced earlier that day and the vehicle died in the middle of the street.diagnosis: client states vehicle won't start. Brake and battery lights are on after charging the battery performed battery test with the battery tester center midtronics nissan mcr620. Gr8 battery tester was unable at this time. Test results good battery and charging system incident. Upon inspection terminal 1 connector f6 found terminal melting where connect to alternator and also part of the harness and alternator burnt due to terminal nut loose and has much play. Call nissan tech line, and report the incident and also for help. The consumer also stated when he applied the brake, the steering wheel and the entire vehicle started to shake. The battery light would illuminate at times when the vehicle was in park and would start to flicker and flash.updated 05/05/10.
Warranty just expired after 5 years. Few months later, the telescoping steering wheel started making grinding noises and will not telescope back and forth unless i manually push or pull hard. Got quoted $850 for a repair, but i refused to pay that much to get it fixed as it is not my fault. I see many 2009 nissans having this problem and i am extremely disappointed in the manufacturer to not recall this! this might be my last nissan as i already had 3 nissan batteries, my alternator replaced and my driver's seat frame replaced! i can't wait until my car loan is paid off!
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the key sensor light illuminated and the vehicle would not start. The contact notified the dealer who indicated that the intelligent key security system had malfunctioned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the vin was not available. The failure mileage was 82,000.
The vehicle was left parked at my job parking lot and when i went to leave home after work the car simply didn't want to start. The vehicle had to be towed to the nearby dealership which stated that the issue is related to the steering lock control unit. He was not able to state why it happened just that it just happens suddenly without reason and now it's going to cost approx. $1000 to fix. You can only imagine how much this may cost if this is a common issue with these cars and there is no real cause why it happens per the technician at nissan's of burleson stated.
I parked and went into local post office.got back in my car and it wouldn't start.tried to get a jump and was told nothing was wrong with battery, doors unlocked, lights came on and hazard lights worked.called local nissan dealership and explained to service gentleman what was going on and he immediately told me the steering lock release had gone out and i needed to have the car towed to the dealership.three days later the service gentleman called me and told me it was indeed the steering lock release that'd gone out and it was $775 + tax to get it fixed.i'm baffled because my car is my only means of transportation and i can't believe that the end result is that i have to pay for this.the car will not work without this release switch being replace and i don't have the money to get it fix so what now am i to do.i began to read upon this issue and see it's an ongoing problem with '09 maximas and it has been recalled on other such nissan vehicles.i think nissan should take the responsibility for this and recall this part for its customers.this is unbelievable and also not covered under warranty.
Luckily in the driveway after loading car for food bank delivery, i tried to start but no light asking to press foot on brake to start came on was my first clue something was wrong.key locks/unlocks/open trunk/alarm works but will not start engine. "key warning light" comes on.tried both keys but nothing. Disconnected/reconnected battery without success.steering wheel is unlocked.insert fob to try & start manually but nothing.my neighbor is a local mechanic & came over to help. Stumped him so i guess i will be calling to get a tow to dealership in the morning after unloading food bank donations! after reading several hundred complaints about this issue in just a matter of few minutes, i am sure there are hundreds of thousand nissan unsatisfied customers who have had to deal with this.step up nissan & do the right thing. I do not have $1000 to fix this problem. We also have an altima so wondering when that will go too.no more nissans for us!
Went to the supermarket and the car would not turn back on.the key light on the dash board is lite but the car is in lock mode and doesn't allow the car to turn on.it seems that the car isn't recognizing that the key is near to allow it to be turned on.i think there should be a recall on this issue.i've seen hundreds of people with the same issue.i don't have money to fix the issue or get it towed.the car is still in the supermarket parking lot.this is a nightmare.nissan should take full responsibility for this issue and fix all of these cars free of charge.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that at engine startup, the check engine warning light illuminated and sparks became visible once the hood was opened. The fire department was contacted and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the alternator had melted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted.the failure and current mileages were 130,000.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that after parking, the vehicle did not register that the key was in the ignition. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the gear lock module malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
The car has power.all electronics seem to work, however, when i depress the brake and push the ignition button the car will not start.the first time i try to start it, it will turn over very slowly.then every time after that, it will give me a metallic clicking sound but will not turn over.i went through the cold and hot start up procedures to no avail.the car still has power, i.e. If i place the button to the on position everything will turn on electronically, but the car still will not start.i have had this problem for several months now.the battery is an interstate battery and has been tested as good.the only time the car will start now is if i get a jump.
I have had several complaints with my 2009 nissan maxima, first i keep having to replace the battery which i received a new battery from the dealer in january of 2013 with an 84 month warranty, well today the battery died again.i have had issues with the steering column since i purchasedthe vehicle in august of 2008. The first time steering column locked and the vehicle had to be towed to dealer and was replaced under warranty. It was replaced again the next few months and i was told it was the batteryand then several months later stopped working again the up and down function.second the vehicle suspension was supposedly replaced due the recall ...but i was told recently by dealer that it need to be replaced again and they were trying to charge me over $1200 for a recalled item.which i refused to pay.
I purchase my 2004 nissan maxima in july 2003. Since i have had the car i've had nothing but major problems. I perform the required maintenance on the car and still have numerous problems. I have had to replace things that should have lasted on the car the cd player has been replace and when out again twice. Tensor assembly and timing belt also 1500. And now i have the replace my transmission another 3100.00. This is ridiculous for a car that has a luxury price tag. Nissan has not be helpful at all and do not try to answer of help in any way. Nissan needs to recall all 2004 models.
Wireless key failed to start car.car completely dead.couldn't move wheel or put into neutral to move vehicle.it was not parked safely (a quick stop) but no way to move it.no back up mechanism to allow car to be started or moved.
I started my car just fine this morning but on my way to work i stopped at a store and the car did not want to start back up. I changed out the battery for the push start key and the car battery. This problem from what i have been reading is an issue with the 2009 maxima 370z and the gtr. They have the same parts for the ignition systems.please fix this problem. I'm from texas but work as a contractor in pennsylvania. I love my maxima and it's a shame that i have been stuck in the cold for 5 hours trying to get a tow truck and talking to my insurance. Thank you.
The steering wheel lock issue is leaving maximas stranded unable to start the car with these symptoms. What happens is when you try to start the car, without warning, the electric lock fails to unlock sending error message to the bcm. The car will not start in this case and will flash the intelligent key warning in the cluster.this is a known common problem with this model and a $1000.00 repair.it is obviously a design flaw.this should be a recall.
Steering/brake lock failed to disengage with attempted engine start up.key indicator light and security lights flashing on dash.steering lock required replacement after car was towed to nearest nissan dealership.this repair was not covered under warranty which had expired 7 month earlier.on line research would suggest this is a fairly common occurrence; a nissan service bulletin has apparently be published for this issue as it was referenced by the service department providing the repair.
I am a single 34 year old white female.i have a 2009 nissan maxima and i was downtown cincinnati at 2:00 am. I walked to the car from a business nearby and got into my car and it would not start. There was a light on the top left of the dashboard that was yellow and said key. I attempted to start it again and nothing. I contacted a friend who helped me try to jump it; thinking it may be the battery and again nothing.i was very upset that i was stuck in downtown cincinnati, now with a friend trying to help. I ended up spending a $100 on a taxi to get home and now today i find out thus is going to cost me $900. This car only has 56,000 miles on it. I should be able to feel safe. I no longer do. I hope nissan thinks about recalling this issue bc according to many online testimonies this is happening a lot to 2009 nissan maxima owners. I'll have to say i won't buy another. I had a toyota before this and i'll go back go being a loyal toyota customer. Thank you for your time.
I stopped at a store for about 5 minutes. When i returned to my car to leave, my car would not start.the anti theft and the yellow key symbol was blinking. The steering wheel would not lock so i could press the brake pedal to start the car. My car had to be towed to the dealer. They foundthat the steering lock assembly was faulty. The part was covered under the extended powertrain warranty.i am a female and i was along. This could become a dangerous situation and i think the 2009 maxima should be a part of a recall that is for the 2009 altima as well. The same problem!
I attempted to start my car as i left work one afternoon and it would not start. The push start button was in the lock mode and the picture in the dash indicated that my wheel was locked, while my ant-theft light flashed continuously. I made several different attempts for hours to unlock the steering collar myself and start my car, only to fail over and over again which lead to me having it towed to a local nissan dealership, the next day. The dealership ran a diagnostic test on the car and told me that i needed a new steering lock box, which typically does not go out on cars like mine (2009 nissan maxima). This seems to be a manufacture defect but i am being charged at least $1000 to fix this problem, with no fault of my own. Will you assist me in resolving this problem?
Steering lock module failure causes car to lock ignition and prevents starting. No failure warning before car becomes disabled. Web search reveals this is a common problem and should be covered under recall. Nissan refuses to acknowledge this problem covers multiple years and models. No notification from nissan warning this problem was occurring over several years. Over $1000 to repair. My vehicle left me stranded when i stopped at a overlook on afton mountain. Required towing to nearest dealer for repair.
My car was parked in my parking spot at my town home.i went to start it and the battery was completely dead.i went to release the trunk lid and the trunkwould not open it operates on the battery.there is no ket slot to open the trunk.i contacted consumer affairs at nissan and they agreed there is no key slot on the trunk.when asked them how to get in my trunk to get my battery cables and my emergency kit(which came with the car).i was told the only way to open the trunk was to release the back rest on the rear seat and crawl in the trunk and pull therelease on the trunk lid.when asked is there a fix for this problem i was told no.i am a man of 70yrs.old with a bad backhow am i supposed to crawl in a trunk.as i stated the car came wit an emergency kit what good is it if i can't get to it.to me this a very dangerous problem.if were on the side of a road when this happened when cars are doing 60 to 70 mph i could get hurt or killed i would appreciate some one looking into this dangerous problem.
2009 nissan maxima, purchased new--key fob light indicator illuminated on dashboard, car won't start, brake lights work, key fob unlocks doors and trunk. Warranty expired about 1k miles ago. I was told that the steering lock part, which may repair/solve the matter is about $1200. I am repulsed and utterly disgusted. Prior to this matter, the tilt feature [for steering wheel) on the car ceased to work.
The steering wheel lock unit failed making the car not start leaving my wife stranded at a convenience store on a cold night. Nissan knows this is a widespread problem but is still letting its customers foot the $1000 bill for their poor design. It is a safety problem when it leaves my wife stranded!
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that there was a progressing failure in which the push button start failed to function. The contact indicated that the ignition lock mechanism internally malfunctioned, which prevented the vehicle from starting on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for further diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Upon attempting to start the car, ignition would not change from "lock" to "acc" or "on". Intelligent key warning lamp was lit steady on dash. Steering wheel column was not locked. All power and other functions worked (lights, door locks, etc). Battery is fine. Dealer found steering lock control module part 48700-9n00a faulty and replaced with steering lock control module part 48700-9n00b.similar part on nissan gtrs was recalled, part number 48700-jf00a or 48700-jf00b, being replaced by 48700-jf00c same part number is failing for nissan 370zs as well, same years and same part number 48700-jf00a or 48700-jf00b, yet they are not being recalled. This problem is also occurring in nissan maximas and nissan muranosin all models of nissan this part was removed in mid 2010 due to consistent failure. The part costs approximately $500 from nissan, is usually out of stock and back ordered, and costs another $400-$500 to be installed at a dealer. There should be a make-wide recall for all models for this part.failure of this part strands the driver with no warning of impending failure. How can aelectronic part mounted inside the passengers compartment fail so often at less than three and a half years of service?
On 3/3/14 my 2009 nissan maxima would not start.symptoms of this issue - key recognized(unlocks and when inserted into key fob port there is a notification)- pressing start button does not work, locked remains illuminated(eg acc and on do not activate)- nissan intelligent key warning light- all lights come on in the car- brake lights work- electronic seats still movei experienced a dead battery just 3 months earlier so i was sure this was not the issue.plus i had a new battery.i googled a combination of the symptoms with my model/year and many links came up.turned out to be the "steering lock failure" which was under a extended warranty.5 years or 72 k miles.worst part of the experience was dealing with the people at the midway nissan on bell road dealership in phoenix.the experience left me knowing that they care more about making money today than earning return customers.luckily they warranty paid for everything.but they were willing and ready to screw me over.
Electrical and ac failure, spent a lot of money and couldn't really afford to spend bc i was trying to get my ac repaired and no ine can figure out what the problem is. The warm weather is approaching and i cannot have my self and my child sweating bullets again this year. Purchased a new ac compressor, new ac condenser and had the ac charged still not fix to it. Have several people check for leaks ect and ac compressor doesn't even kick in at all and no one knows why.
Cant start car.. Seems like steering wheel lock assembly malfunction. I have looked and noticed that alot of 2009 nissans have had this issue.
Stranded twice car will not start because of steering lock module not releasing allowing the car to start.
I had just stopped by another office in minneapolis to pick up a piece of equipment. It was my last order of business of the evening. I was about 30 minutes from home. I went back out to my car and it would not start. I spent about 2.5 very stressful hours trying to get it started. I had my 17 year-old bring me my other fob, i replaced batteries in the fob, i looked up problems in the manual. I had to have my car towed back to the nissan dealer. To my dismay, they told me it was a common issue and it cost $850 to fix. Since that day, i have been researching the internet to read about similar problems and it turns out they are everywhere! nissan maxima, altima, 370z...all 2009 to 2010 model years. Nissan needs to recall and give me my money back!
The steering wheel lock issue is leaving maximas stranded unable to start the car with these symptoms: what happens is when you try to start the car, without warning, the electric lock fails to unlock sending error message to the bcm. The car will not start in this case and will flash the intelligent key warning in the cluster.
I was driving along a highway at 50 mph.when the steering wheel suddenly fell to my knees.this car has a retractable steering system. I was able to steer the car safely to the side of the road.i did not drive the car.the steering wheel was then able to be pushed back into the driving position.i brought the car to the dealership today, and they told me that the two electric motors in the steering column were defective (had to be replace)the cost woulkd be $2,000.the car has just 60,000 miles.
I parked my car and went to work. I got off of work got in my car and was unable to start my vehicle. My push start button was highlighted in a lock position and i was unable to start my car due to the problem. I researched the issue online and found some information that this has happened to many people with the same system. This vehicle is very new and has low miles. It does not seem fair that because of poor design that a working individual should have to cover the repair costs of the commonly occurring malfunction.
Electronic steering column lock. 41.4 k miles on car. Parked car, went to start, key light went on and the car was immobilized. Towed to dealership, filed a report with nissan. Warranty extension specific to this issue no longer available by 6 months. $1,071 repair denied by nissan because it was out of warranty. Could have been major safety issue if i was stuck in a remote location.
On the morning of 1/8/13 i drove my 2009 nissan maxima to my commuter parking lot, and realized that i didn't completely park in my space after turning the car off. I proceeded to start my car with the push stop/start but nothing happened. As soon as i realized my vehicle wouldn't start, i became very upset because i just purchased the vehicle last january and only had a powertrain warranty that was still active. I immediately contacted the service department of the nissan dealership i purchased the vehicle from and complained, while crying lemon law. The service technician attempted to help me start the vehicle while over the phone and after realizing what the issue may be, he explained that there is a common issue with the 2009 nissan maxima's that he believes the computer module in the steering column had gone bad. I asked if nissan had recalled that part since it was a common issue, his answer was no and informed me it's going to cost around $750 just to purchase the part, and with labor around $900-$1000 to repair. I said if this is a common issue withmy model, then why didn't nissan recall that part. The service technician had no explanation other than mentioning, it hasn't happened to enough people yet which i feel is completely absurd! this is a huge safety issue as my vehicle wouldn't start without any indication, or warning beforehand. Please help!
My 2009 nissan maxima is no longer starting and the brake and steering wheel have locked. It does not recognize that i have a key even though i do. Any attempt to start the vehicle results in a sporadic tick tick or screeching type noise for lack of a better word.
We bought our maxima brandnew in july of 2009. Loved everything about until this past june of 2012.our first problem was some clitching electrical wiring. The outside mirrors wouldn't move up and down when we put the car in reverse. This would happen off and on while we took our trip out of town in june. After we came back my husband made a appointment to get it checked out, but because the outside mirrors were working again we just let it be and didn't follow up with the nissan service department.in july of 2012 i was sitting in my parked car when i was ready to leave, i started my car only to hear this awful sort of grinding noise. I had a tow company come to tell that my battery was "dead". Which i was surprised, because my car is just 3 years old and i only had 24577 miles on it. The towing company charged my battery for me to make it across the street to autozone, where i got anew battery. I remember the last time when i brought in the car for service, the lady was telling me that i needed to drive my car more often due to the battery being "low". Which i thought was strange, i mean how inconvenientis that to have to drive you're car every day, because if you don't the battery just "dies" on you?! my last incident with my car happened this past monday 09/17/2012when i turn my car off, suddenly i hear again this awful grinding noise coming from the panel. Come to find out after i called the nissan dealer that it was the steering column and that the motor need to be replaced and this is happening 2 months after my warranty ran out! i called nissan dealer, they told me to bring it in. Seeing my car is 3 years old..to me it should be a recall factory issue! and i shouldn't have to pay for it! they say this is a common problem? i don't think so!nissan need to make this steering column a recall issue! because it is a dangerous defect.
Car was turned off and parked in a parking lot for 3 min. While i went to the atm machine. When i returned to the car it would not start. Warning light would come on, so i checked the owner's manual to look up the signal and it was the steering lock. Had to call a tow truck to have car towed to dealers for repair.
Reaches a normal beverage center in my nissan maxima 2009 and went out in 4 hours when not lit it wanted to turn on my car, the screen showed two intelligent keys warning lights nissan and security indicator, the key worked properly, the lights of the car too, the problem is just not turned on at all, i went to nissan dealership and are charging me 1400 usd to fix my car and i see i'm not the only one with this problem in 2009 nissan maxima is very common to have some guarantee should the damaged piece, i need help with my car.
Got off of work and i tried to crank my car and it wouldn't start. The key symbol was on but that's it.so i got it towed to local mechanic through my insurance and i payed 35. They couldn't find the problem so i had to get it towed the car lot where i bougjt it from and it cost me $125. I've since did research and it seems that a lot of people has having the same problem and paying over $1, 000 out of pocket.now iam waiting for my leinholder to tell me i owe them $1, 000. I really like my 2009 nissan maxima but i will not buy another one
When trying to start the car, it fails to start.steering has failed, not allowing the car to start.this issue has appeared twice on my car in 7 days.thanks to youtube.com i have been able to limp my way.i took the car to my local nissan dealer, and the diagnosis was determined that steering lock has failed. They told me that that with parts and labor it would be $1,500.i researched this issue online and found pages and pages of online forums with people complaining about this issue.i called 1-800-nissan they reviewed the case and offered me nothing in return.nissan knows this is an issue; it should be a recall; however, they are doing nothing to rectify the problem.nissan please fix this problem.
The electronic steering column lock went out and i was unable to start my car. I had to have the car towed to the dealership for which i had to pay $1,100 to get a problem fixed i never even heard of. There was an extended warranty on this part that "expired" a year and a half ago. Nissan never recalled this part that is clearly a problem.
The steering column is lock and the car won't start using the intelligent key system.this was a problem with many car owners and nissan issued an extended warranty which allowed for owners to have their car repaired if this issue happened within the warranty period.i purchased my car used and didn't experience this problem until after the extended warranty expired.i feel nissan should have recalled all cars of this model to correct a problem that is clearly due to poor manufacturing. The recall would have costed more money, but it's the right thing to do.
Tilt and telescopic motors both failed locking the steering wheel in an awkward and uncomfortable position for driving.motors continue to try and run thus depleting the battery of energy while the car's engine is off.
Nissan intelligent key was not communicating with engine start function. Yellow key light was on, key would unlock and lock the car, but it will not start. Suspected issue from reading all other nissan maxima owner forums is that it is a steering lock failure. Had tow truck take our car to the nearest car max nissan dealer where we purchased the vehicle back in september 2012.
The battery ran out, i sent it to a mechanic, a fault arrives and now the transmission fails, it does not accelerate when it does so, it gives me a code p0746 i do not know what to do see how they can help me thanks
My car keeps losing power after driving it for awhile. I had a new alternator and battery installed. It continues to lose power and starts up after a few hours. This is unsafe and very scary.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the engine failed to start and the key warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the steering wheel locked up. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
The steering lock control on the vehicle failed causing the car to become disabled. The steering wheel would not turn and was locked in place, additionally the vehicle was stalled and would not restart. Fortunately the incident occurred in a parking lot had the steering lock control failed while driving a significant accident would have likely occurred as the driver would have lost steering control. The car had to be towed to the nissan service shop for a repair costing nearly $1000. This was a known safety issue for nissan as they extended the warranty for this part however my vehicle's control unit failed after the warranty expired. After online research i discovered many other nissan owners have suffered the same safety failure on their vehicles. It is an obvious manufacturer safety defect that needs to be recalled.
The steering lock system (an anti-theft device) failed.it locked my steering wheel and disabled the start button on the car.the car was stationary; i was stranded in a parking lot away from home with a car that would not start.nissan is aware of the problem and had issued a tsb, but no recall.nor was i notified of the potential problem as an owner.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a part store, where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft, dtc, abs sensor, and engine speed shift circuit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.
Engine oil pan rust through and is an ongoing problem.
My husband bought this vehicle from crown mason in tampa andbthe car started smoking in one day, we found out the engine was no good. The owner claimed that the vehicle was in good shape. Since the day we bought it we had to put a new engine in along with a tune up and a wheel alignment
Thank you.
I pulled out of my complex i had only driven 1/4 of a mile at a rate of 40 mph and my vehicle started running very rough the service engine soon light started flashing and all the sudden my vehicle lost power i was unable to control the steering and very hard to brake. I pulled the vehicle off the road. I was able to get the vehicle going again so i drove right back home. I referenced my owners manual and it stated when the check engine soon light is flashing to take the vehicle to the nearest service facility. I had my vehicle towed to the service department the next day. The service dept notified me that i need a new engine. They stated this is very unusual and that the problem was not my fault and when they took the top part of the engine off my motor is very clean and they can tell that i took great car of my vehicle. I contacted nissan to see if they would cover the repair since the vehicle is just 3,000 miles out of warranty.approx 48 hrs later nissan called to advise me they can't help me with the cost of my repairs over $9,000. This is very dangerous and needless to say very unfair for the consumer.
While i was driving on the highway i stopped to get gas at a rest stop and my car would not start thereafter. After much research this vehicle has a campaign for the electronic steering lock through nissan . I contacted nissan and was told due to the age and mileage of the vehicle they would not be able to reimburse ! due to malfunction my car should have the appropriate steering box identified in their campaign. The dealership and nissan corporation refused to abide by their own campaign and denied any reimbursement for repairs.
When the car is warmed up and when idling the rpm go up and down and also it idles very irratically.
The car, while driving, reverts back to idle rpm and pressing the gas pedal does not propel the car. This happened after being repaired by nissan. On another occasion it completely lost power while driving.
The engine would not turn over or start and the steering wheel is locked. A small yellow key appears on the left side of the left instrument dial. The intelligent key does not engage. Web research indicates probable steering lock failure. The car was towed to nearest nissan dealer today feb. 5 who confirmed that steering lock has failed. The dealer service personnel tells me the replacement part is on back order, none of the other dealers in the washington dc area have one. Technically it may not be a safety problem requiring a recall but if you had this problem on the shoulder of an interstate highway or sitting on the tracks at a railroad crossing it could be very dangerous. Now we will need some experience in order to trust the car to operate correctly in a safe manner. I am glad we have another car that is working correctly.
The collar will move up and down slow ... Report the motor is bad.
Drivin with your lights on dim you can't hardly see the road. The lighting does not extend far out in from of the car. It only showa few lil feet out in front of the car. I have tried usin other bulb type to see if it works better. And no it doesn't.someone said nissan told them the cars aren't grounded that good. I drive with my on bright to someone blinks and tell me to dim my lights.
The car, while driving, reverts back to idle rpm and pressing the gas pedal does not propel the car. This happened after being repaired by nissan. On another occasion it completely lost power while driving.
In january 2009 i purchased a brand new 2009 nissan maxima.in april my interior lights, steering wheel and seat and the heat on my drivers side seat stopped working.i took my car in to the nissan dealer for repairs, i was told that there was and electrical problem and that they had repaired it.two weeks later the same thing happened to me when i went to georgia, when i got back to maryland i took my car into the nissan dealer for repairs again and was told that they could not find anything wrong with my car.on may 19th my steering wheel stuck in the highest upward position again and also my seat was not working, and the locks on the doors kept locking and unlocking while my car was turned on but not being driven,on may 20th i took my car in for repairs again, the service writer at the nissan dealer looked at it and also noticed the problem ( my steering wheel was still stuck in the upward position and the seat was not working), after he played around with several buttons he told me that everything seemed to be doing fine and he didn't know if they could do anything for me.i told him that i would leave my car for repairs because i knew something was wrong still with my car. I received a phone call from the dealer and was told that they could not find anything wrong.i know something is wrong, so where do i go from here.this has been three times that they have tried to fix my car and i am getting nowhere.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that he locked the vehicle and activated the alarm but the trunk did not lock. The vehicle was burglarized because the trunk was not locked. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that he had to stand at a certain distance from the vehicle for the trunk to lock. The failure and current mileages were 36,229.
I have been informed by my dealership that my transfer case is leaking and if i do not repair or replace it the car while driving will basically the gears in the mechanism will grind make a loud noise and just stop. That sounds like a safety concern. When i contacted nissan usa i was informed my car was out of warranty and they would not replace it even if it was a safety issue. It also is well documented that nissan has a problem with the transfer case leaking. Why is nissan not replacing this part while under warranty if they no there is an issue.
Power steering fluid leaks completely out and have to refill every two weeks. I was driving down the parkway and my rpm kept jumping slightly. Got off my exit to my university and stopped at a light, then it wouldn't move. After letting it sit for a while i could get it to move across a parking lot, but it shook the whole time and wouldn't go over 1200 rpm. It eventually went completely out and now it doesn't move at all. It is also smoking upon starting it now.
Whining noise coming from engine compartment as soon as vehicle is turned on and continues while running.many forums describe this as bad secondary timing chain tensioners due to complete wear-out of plastic material. Motor needs to be pulled to replace tensioners. 19 hours labor at dealer plus parts puts this repair at $2500 plus. Photo attached shows new part and old part replaced by a dealer.
I have a 2006 maxima with 78,000 miles. About 2 months ago the automatic transmission started jerking when shifting from gear 1 to gear 2. Also jerking from reverse into drive. After stopping, the transmission does not engage and the rpms sky rocket until the gear engages. I have had the transmission serviced but the problem still continues. This is a major problem in heavy traffic where stopping and starting is required due to stop signs and lights. It could also result in another car rear-ending me because the transmission will not engage immediately when accelerating.
In nov. 2009, approx 3 months after purchasing new car, it started intermittently having heavier vibration in the steering wheel.since then, there is a constant minor pulsing/vibration, with intermittent vibration that has more intensity.when i have more instances of the "heavier" vibration during my commute it causes my hands to tingle. I have been to the dealer 4 times with this complaint - the last time with a regional rep present.to date, the dealer and nissan corporate consumer assistance has not identified any solution nor any other compensation.i feel there is a defect or design flaw that is producing the vibration, which i can only assume will get worse over time. I am afraid it will eventually put my hands to sleep on a longer trip.
The battery ran out, i sent it to a mechanic, a fault arrives and now the transmission fails, it does not accelerate when it does so, it gives me a code p0746 i do not know what to do see how they can help me thanks
Steeringwheel lock - ignition lock assembly failure.i purchased my 2009 nissan ma xima in nov 2012 and my car has been running pretty good until the dreaded day when i was strandedbecause my car would not start.i had my car towed and i was told that thevsteeringbwheel lock assembly needed to be replaced $1189.00.i don't know about you, but im not made out of money.after a little research i discovered that this problem has been happening since 09.this is outrageous and nissan should have owned up and fixed this problem along time ago.this is unacceptable and there should be a recall and not just a bulletin.there is a problem and nissa needs to fix there wrong, instead selling cars knowing that there is a problem.a recall needs to be issued and nissan needs to do the repairs immediately with no charge to their customers.
The cvt transmission on 09- 2014 nissan go out and take you to practically a dead stop from 60mph. There have been so many undocumented transmission problems that nissian hides/ denies. There needs to be investigations done on the transmissions and recalled.cvt stepper motor/ valve body / 09 nissian maxima
My 2009 maxima currently has 128,00 miles on it. Saturday10/26 my transmission went while on the highway, headed to work, my car began to slow down although my foot was on the gas. It came to a complete stop! luckily i was able to pull into the shoulder. I turned the car off and on and was only able to get another quarter mile down the road with the car stopping again in an exit lane.after towing it to midas, they stated the transmission went. For the mileage to only be a quarter over 100k and the transmission to fail it horrible. I am now looking at a $4200+ repair.
Driver seat loose and rocks forward and backwardswhen braking or accelerating
Drivers seat base or track is loose and seat rocks upon acceleration and braking, has been replaced once and taken back to two dealerships with both declining to acknowledge the movement.
Driver side seat in my nissan maxima 2009 has been replaced (the base) and still have an issue with flexing, i am afraid that if there is a major accident the seat is going to come apart and cause serious injury.
The vehicle was purchased 2009 new. Approx 1 year later the drivers seat began to rock. Nissan replaced the drivers track which they said was defective. A few months later it began to rock again and was reported to nissan, they stated there was no problem. The seat continued to rock and increasingly got worse. January 2014 the vehicle is returned to the dealership because it is dangerously rocking back and fourth when you accelerate or brake. The service manager states he is well aware of the problem. Nissan refuses to make repairs because its out of warranty. Further investigation finds that there are thousands of vehicles out there with the same problem. I attempt to go threw nissan to own up to their problem. I get up to the vp of customer service and receive a phone call stating there is nothing they can do but keep my receipt in case there is a recall and i may get my money back if there's a recall.
Passenger occupancy sensor has failed.to replace you must replace the entire seat bottom which is over $1500.there are many other people experiencing the same issue.seems to be a defect.
I parked my car, to pick up something from the store, and when i came back to start my car, it would not start. I checked on forums.maxima.org and saw that this is a common problem, because of the steering wheel lock. I had to get my car towed, because i was stranded, and now waiting for the diagnosis for the issue, from nissan repair shop.
The drivers seats in many 2009 maximas are unstable and rock back and forth while the car is in motion.when accelerating, stopping or turn corners the seats rock causing your foot to be unstable on the brake or accelerator.
Driver's seat is not securely anchored to floor - it rocks slightly as i operate the vehicle.the dealer has attempted on 4 occasions to remedy this problem, and has not been able to.i do not believe the seat is sufficiently secure to protect me in a serious collision.
Noticed that my seat was rocking forward and backward when breaking and accelerating.read on repair pal that nissan murano's were having the same issues.https://repairpal.com/damaged-seat-adjuster-assembly-may-cause-noiserocking-movement-780.this seems like it would be a safety hazard as seat may come loose.
Airbag sensor blinking. Seems to be a recurring problem with 2009 nissan maxima. Read others complain of same. Dealership saysit will cost $1700 to fix the problem. Since it is a recurring complaint it should be considered a recall item.
2009 nissan maxima - driver seat moves forward upon acceleration and moves backward upon slowing down or stopping.the driver is moved forward or back whenever the seat moves.the driver seat is not stable upon acceleration or stopping.notified nissan dealership- per nissan, not covered under warranty.the repair is left to the consumer.this is a known issue.nissan has this issue with other vehicle models.
I had the driver seat frame replaced under warranty in 2011, shortly afterwards, the seat back tilt failed, then shortly there after, the seat forward, back, up, and down failed. A bit later the driver seat frame is again just as bad as when it was replaced under warranty. I'll never buy another nissan!
Leaking brake master cylinder, only indication was illuminated warning lights on dashboard.

It has been two months since my nissan maxima 2009 had a problem with failed brakes. There has been no response from nissan usa corp. Except to say that their engineer has inspected the vehicle. Both myself and the service manager at my nissan car dealership here in saginaw tried multiple times to talk to the people at nissan but we are left with no answers. I don't know what's wrong with the brakes and i am afraid to take it out on the road. I have had a rental car for the last two months with only a verbal reassurance that the nissan corporation would pay for it. I am wondering whether you can look into this matter and whether nissan also has problems with their brakes like the toyota. Thank you for your consideration.
The brakes on my nissan maxima failed and i was almost hit by cars as i slid into a major intersection while braking for a red light. I was only driving at 5mph because i saw the light from about five car lengths away and i braked at 2 car lengths away from the light. I braked again twice but the brakes continued to fail as i slid into the intersection. Luckily for me, the oncoming traffic was able to stop in time for me to move the car to a safe position. The brakes then held again until i drove to the dealer.the brake problem occurred twice before though i did not recognize it as such , once on the same day and once within the same week. It was intermittent. It occurred at speeds less than 20mph and within 10 minutes of starting the car and driving. The outside temperature was 20 to 25 degrees f and the roads were clean. I immediately took the car to the dealer who said that nissan engineers have to evaluate the car. Its been more than three weeks, neither the dealer nor i have heard from nissan as to what they are doing about it. I even reported the incidents to the online nissan consumers.they acknowledged receiving the complaint and that's all. I am still driving the rental car arranged by the dealer.
I bought a brand new nissan maxima in nov.my sister borrowed the car for the weekend and the brakes failed causing her to hit the vehicle in front of her.the car had to be towed to a body shop, the mechanic on duty got the car running, while removing the car from the tow truck he drove the car about ten feet and the first thing he said was the brakes feel fluffy.the car was repaired and cleared by the body shop, it was there rough 5 weeks, i took the car to the dealer who then inspected the car and brakes, they said nothing was wrong and documented the incident.on july 25 i was driving home from the park with my daughter in the back seat when the brakes failed again,i was lucky nobody was in front of me.i got the car stopped and thankfully i was less then a mile away from home.on monday i called the dealer and told them it happened again and said they can come pick it up, i wont drive it and no longer feel safe in it.they had it towed out that same day, they have had the car ever since.the car was inspected again on august 21 2009, and cleared again.i was told monday that nothing was wrong with the car. To my knowledge nothing has ever been replaced or repaired on the braking system.
Went to store this morning to get coffee, got back in car and it would not start. Indicators suggest no key and one suggest key in car. Cost me $75 to have it towed and just found out it will cost $1,000 for repairs. Very upset and would like nissan to make this a recall.
Car would not start on a blistery cold day. Luckily, it happened infront of my house, but i then had to get towed to a garage because the windows went down when i tried to start the car. Steering wheel is locked. "key" light turns on. All functions on fob still work and the car had a brand new battery installed 3 months ago. Seems to be the steering lock module which has caused the car not to start.
Steering wheel stuck on lowest position.
Steering wheel lock problem-i was not aware of this problem and was not able to benefit from the extended warranty.i was stranded late in the evening and was not able to get home and did not want to leave my car. My car was parked and would not start. The experience was traumatizing.
Park car. Got back in steering wheel lock, left car over to friend house.
My maxima won't start or do anything. I towed the car to mossy nissan and they said it was the steering locking mechanism.
Electronic steering column lock (escl) warranty extension.i am a recently divorced single mother trying to survive in this tough economy.i park my vehicle at work, and i work near an airfield, at fort lauderdale airport.imagine my surprise while on lunch break, i push to start my vehicle and nothing happens.i was stranded.many of my male colleagues attempted to help me, thinking it was the battery, or a possible fuse, but nothing they did could start my vehicle.one suggested i contacted nissan service to explain what was going on...and before i could finish my sentence of what lights were on my dashboard, the service employee knew it was the steering lock column.i ended up getting my vehicle towed (about $70) to the nissan dealership and had to leave my vehicle overnight.i had to rent a vehicle for two days and had to pay late fees because i wasn't able to pick up my toddler from daycare before they closed.the following day, and within 40 minutes the nissan dealership opening, they called to let me know my car was now fixed and it would cost me $1200!!!i'm sure it took less than the 40 minutes to repair my vehicle and i was paying over $400 for labor.i never heard of this mechanical failure concerning my vehicle but after researching, i am now seeing the plethora of complaints and i am super disappointed with nissan over the fact that this was not considered a recall.i shudder at the thought of being stranded with my son in an inconvenient or dangerous location.then to find out there is nothing i can do recoup my expense.i had to open a trade line to cover the expense because i cannot afford to spend the cash i have at this time.this is just not right and it is certainly not fair, not to me or anyone who has been affected by this.i would greatly appreciate someone looking into this issue and push the recall to indefinite.
Went to turn the car on and the breaks were stiff and the steering wheel didn't want to turn. Apparently my steering wheel locked for no reason. This has been a big problem with the nissan max. And they refuse to have a recall and expect me to pay for it out of pocket.
The steering column locked up and would not start the car. The electric lock failed to unlock sending error message to the bcm. The car completely locked up and would not start. There was no warning this would happen. It is my understanding that nissan knows this component is a problem and even recalled it on other models, but not on the maxima. Its an exteremely expensive fix and should be recalled if they know it is a problem. I got stranded in bitter cold temperatures with a 2 month old baby. This part needs to be recalled.
Steering wheel made grinding noise then froze in lowest position.
Unable to start vehicle, steering column won't unlock. Occurs when vehicle is parked.seems to be a well known issue with the steering mechanism unable to properly signal the bcm.stranding the driver.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the steering lock unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the necessary parts were on back order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the parts would become available in a few weeks. The failure and the current mileages were 40,000.
The vehicle wouldn't start. 3 days later we found out that the vehicle is not starting because of the steering lock control unit. Dealer continues to argue that this part is not covered under the warranty. Based upon information found on the internet this is a frequent issue with the nissan murano, altima, and maxima.
The steeringwheel will not unlock and car wont start. 2009 nissan maxima
Thank you.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The test results showed a faulty steering lock unit which caused the failure. The dealer replaced the steering lock unit. The failure mileage was 37,600.
Steering wheel locked, shift wont work, brakes wont engage...never notified regardingnissan alert which is posted on their site...how doi get my car fixed...carwont start and cant get towed out of garage
Steering lock actuator failure. The car would not start. Had to have it towed to a nissan dealership and the part replaced for $1,330.00
In august of 2014 i got in my car, 2009 nissan maxima, started it. Memory is set for my drivers seat. Seat set as normal. Steering/tilt did not move as it is set to my position. Did not move in, out, up nor down tried to set it, did not work manually either.took my car to dealer, they said the motor has gone out in steer/tilt and it will cost close to $500.00 to get fixed.
Tilt motor and telescoping motor ceased to work.grinding sound when using the 4 way rocker switch to telescope or tilt the steering wheel.
The steering wheel lock will malfunction without any indicator rendering the car unable to start.
There was an open recall on the the struts i purchased the care from alantic nissan september 2009.i took the care to get checked out and was told that the origanal struts were on the care yet alantic nissan said that they proformed the recall december 2009.my spouse and i did not take the care to get this done because we were not aware never told that there was a recall. The campaign #09v358000. I only found this out because at service in nissan 112 i was told. I was told the nissan is not required to tell consmers about recall nhtsa is requirded to do so.if so was i not informed that the tranmisson coverage was changed to 120,000 the steering was recalled and motors in the seat.
Went into the store, came out and my car would not start. The key symbol kept showing up, steering column was in the locked position & the brakes were locked as well. Had to get the car towed to local nissan dealership where they informed me after some diagnostic tests that the problem was the steering lock mechanism. This is a part recalled on the 2009 370z & gtr nissan models but not for the maxima or altima. This is a huge safety concern & luckily i was somewhere close to home otherwise my son & i would have been stranded in freezing cold weather. Nissan took this part out of their 2010 models so it obviously is a faulty part. Kind of shady that they have not recalled it yet, especially with this being a huge safety concern.
The steering wheel lock malfunctioned stranding my in a parking lot without any warning. The automatic lock mechanism locked the wheel and did not allow even allow me to start the car. When looking this up this is a very well known problem for several different nissan models. In fact the exact same part as already been recalled on two different models. Apparently there has not been enough complaints on the maxima for them to find this an issue forcing them to address it like there were with the others. I called nissan and they agree that the exact same part was recalled due to safety concerns but not on the 2009 maxima because the government has not made to recall it yet. So i just got stuck with a 1000 bill by the dealer to fix an unnecessary steering wheel lock column which is known to be faulty and has been recalled but not yet in this exact model. This is outrageous. This needs to be addressed soon.
I pulled into my mother's driveway stopped the car to run into the house for about an hour. Went back to start the car and it wouldn't start. The yellow key indicator light came on as if it wasn't recognizing my i-key. Was told by nissan dealer this was steering lock malfunction common in the vehicles. Was given a quote of $900 not including towing. Contacted consumer affairs upon seeing that this was a common issue to insure i wasn't covered by any warranty etc. No was the answer to that. I find it disturbing that nissan is aware of this issue and is ok with leaving consumers stranded in possibly undesirable or unsafe situations. I am a 2nd time nissan owner but after how this is being handled this will be my last nissan vehicle. I was told to take the vehicle to nissan for diagnostic because a case could be opened by consumer affairs to possible assist with the payment but they only assist more reliable customers, which they didn't feel i was since i hadn't been going to nissan for my services. I purchased this car second hand and was not under warranty. I went more cost efficient routes for servicing as the one time i tried to contact them for assistance in the past staff was rude. I just can't believe i am left int his position for a know issue with no assistance from the company.
We noticed a strange noise when we started our 2009 nissan maxima and realized it was the steering column making the noise and that it was having trouble going up and down.it would just keep trying to move until you hit the button on the side of the steering column. (the button where you adjust how you want your steering wheel.)within that day, the steering column tilt quit working.when we brought it in to the dealership we were told that the steering wheel tilt motor needed to be replaced.i was told that there are no recalls issued on this and we are out of warranty.the dealership said the only thing we can do is call nissan and see if they will pay or split the cost of this repair as i pointed out that there seems to be numerous occurrences of this type of steering column failure.at this point i have called nissan and have been issued a case number. We have paid for the repairs but are hopeful that nissan accept at least partial responsibility and refund us some of the repairs...
Daughter drove car home from school.went to leave a couple hours later for volleyball practice and the car was completely frozen.we could not depress the gas pedal and there were 2 lights on the dashboard that kept flashing.one was red and had a key symbol in it and the other was orange and said the word key in it.the car was stuck in the garage, could not even move it into neutral to be towed, had to get the towing guy to go get another mechanic to use a screwdriver to release a mechanism that would allow them to put the car in neutral so they would not have to "drag" it out of the garage.ended up being the steering lock with a cost for parts of $684.87 - total cost with labor $964.76.we were informed that this particular part had an extended warranty put on it that was good through may of 2015.didn't matter the mileage on the car, apparently it was only a time issued warranty. So, once may came and went - you paid for your own part.we are curious as to why this was not made a recall verses an extended warranty situation.we are now out $1000 for something that nissan knows is a problem, yet has not done the proper thing by issuing a full recall for this problem.
Escl disabled my push button start. Now i am unable to start let alone drive my vehicle. To add insult to injury i will have to have it towed to the dealer (additional cost to myself) and the dealer is going to charge close to $1200.00 to fix the problem. Apparently this was a recall but expired in 2015. Why won't nissan be responsible and pay for this instead of the consumer? this was obviously a defect in the production of the vehicle seeing how it is such a widespread problem against nissan vehicle owners
The collar will move up and down slow ... Report the motor is bad.
While traveling west on the pa turnpike, my steering wheel just dropped to the lowest position!!scared the hell out of me.i ended up getting the car to the shoulder of the road.i was able to get the steering position up at little to stay and lock.drove the car back to my local nissan dealership to tell me that the motor for the steering wheel tilt and/or telescopic needs replaced!!what a freaking nightmare...$800 plus dollars for repairs plus tax!!what a crock of bull!!i see that this is happening to a lot of nissan owners!!why isnt the government doing anything!!not until somebody has a fatality accident!!
Car wouldn't start, steering wheel lock would not disengage.also windows went down with auto-down feature on key but no way to put them back up.
Car was parked. Car will not start steering locked up
Steering lock malfunctions stranding the driver in possibly dangerous locations or hours. Had to tow to dealer and pay $1094 for repairs
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to gastonia nissan (2275 e franklin blvd, gastonia, nc 28054, (855) 274-8641) where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to the electronic steering lock and the steering box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vin was not included in a manufacturer recall campaign regarding the electronic steering column lock. The dealer also stated that the struts were corroded and needed repair; however, the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v358000 (suspension). The manufacturer provided case number: 38170451. The failure mileage was approximately 10,684.
I own a 2009 nissan maxima, never had nay problems with the car except for routine work done. I clocked out of work and went to start my car and the car did not start. The wheel and brakes were locked on me and i could not take the vehicle out of park to shift it. My key light appeared on my dash and i looked it up in my manual and saw it was the steering lock.. Needless to say i had to pay to tow my car from work to the dealership and it cost me 1113.00 to fix the steering lock unit.. To my knowledge i never was notified or received a letter telling me about the extended warranty abput the steering lock. I feel like the warranty should be forever because what if this steering lock unit i replaced goes out on me again leaving me stranded somewhere else and then i have to pay another 1113.00 to fix... Way to go nissan!!!!!!!!
2009 nissan maxima.consumer writes in regards to vehicle steering wheel lock malfunction.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. When the contact arrived home and turned off the vehicle, the steering wheel did not lock into position. The contact stated that the steering wheel would not move. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
I bought my maxima in april of 2011. It was pre-owned with about 14000 miles. The telescopic and tilt functions for the steering wheel stopped working. My steering wheel is stuck in the lower position making a bit difficult to drive specially when i have to back up; it actually feels a little bit dangerous. I will be getting it fixed next week. Since nissan denied my claim for then to pay for this.i spoke with nissan consumer affair specialists and they came back telling me that it is not covered in the warranty anymore and that it will be up to me to get it fixed. Obviously, when i first called them i understood that the warranty was over. I was hoping they would see this as a serious issue seeing there are many complaints from other consumers already related to the tilt and/or the telescopic motors going bad. The cost for this repair is $975. I wouldn't mind spending this on tires and brakes, but the failure of this motors so early in the life of this car is unacceptable. I am surprised of nissan not having initiated a recall campaign for this. Very disappointing. This is my third nissan but because of the way they seem to care for issues of their customers it maybe the last one.
Takata recallthis whole steering lock situation is an absolute outrage. Apparently nissan does not feel they are responsible for paying or replacing this defect. I know they've lost my business. I feel as well as many others this should be a recall. I am not the only person who has complained or had this problem. It is hundreds of dollars to fix and after reading there are tons of cases identical to mine. I had to leave my car unattended at our local jcpenney's for two days and two nights because the vehicle completely locked up.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the security warning light illuminated intermittently causing the vehicle not to start. The vehicle was towed numerous times due to the vehicle being unable to start. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering lock control unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.
The car would not start. Steering column broke. Had it fixed the first time it broke 3 yrs ago. Then it was covered under warranty. Two days ago, it happened again. Car doesn't start. The yell intelligent key light was on. I knew exactly what was happening. I called to have car towed to dealership (again). This time no longer covered. Total of around $1500 to get fixed.both times my car was parked, and off, and the car just wouldn't start. Both times had i had to have the car towed over 30 miles on a flat bed. I just wanted 1 yr with no car payment, catch up on my student loans, and buy a new nissan. I will not buy another nissan, ever again!
I have not had the car long enough to pay the taxes and the steering locks. Warranty will not cover this is a mess over $1100 to repair. I was going to get my aunt picture copied for her wedding she is deceased. I didn't get the picture and i missed the wedding waiting on the tow truck. Really 😡 upset with nissan i don't think i will be buying another one ever. Many people has had this issue yet nissan will not fix this issue. Very dissatisfied customer
Me and my family were out of town of a weekend getaway, not knowing this steering wheel lock situation was about to leave us stranded out of town and ruin a planned out weekend. Basically we arrived to our destination as perfect as can be, park the car and me and my family left my 2009 nissan maxima parked for a few hours as we enjoyed ourselves. When returning to the car is when the problem began and sense of worry hit my fiance and kids faces. The steering wheel locked and we had no control of the car no more. Stranded and trying to figure out what was exactly going on with the help of google and you tube. A lovely memorable weekend away became a nightmare in a matter of hours. Very disappointed in nissan after reading all the similar complaints and malfunctions individuals have been dealing with and no support or recall from nissan. Me and my family were stranded in a city were we had no family relations for support in an emergency situation. My nissan steering lock situation really opened my eyes to the dangers of this. Definitely reconsidering what to do with my car and my next purchase. Thank god with the support of a you tube video i was able to follow instructions to get the car started after a few hours of trying for who knows how many more times. I drove straight home and now the car sits there non running, steeling wheel locked. My family was my priority and getting them home was a necessity. This steering wheel lock really put us as parents in a dangerous and scared situation for ourselves and children.
The electronic streering column lock was stuck and my car was unable to start twice. It happened once when i was at home and i got it replaced. Now it has happenedagain while i was at work.
I drove my car .5 of a mile to the store got down and came back to start my car. My gas pedal was hard and my push start button read lock. I saw a red blinking key sign. I inserted my key fob in the slot hoping that fixed it and nothing. I wiggled the wheel and pressed the start button and nothing. I tried everything in the book for 3 hours in the parking lot of heb until i got it towed to my apartment until i figured out what to do. I got online and saw so many complaints about the same issue. I called nissan dealership saturday and told them what happened. They said they needed to inspect the vehicle so i scheduled. I asked if they would cover the repairs since this has been going on to many vehicles, maybe a recall? they said no, unless i have warranty- i don't. Turns out i need a new steering control. $1,500 later my car is being worked on now. I have a few questions for the service advisors. Not a happy nissan owner right now.
My steering wheel completely locked up. I was unable to start my car and had to have it towed. It cost me almost $1300 to fix. I see multiple complaints about this. Why is there not a recall??
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that he took the vehicle to the dealer for a tire repair and was informed that the steering lock needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 115,000.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that after shutting her vehicle off the steering column would not move up or down. The contact then restarted the vehicle and the steering column dropped lower than normal. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer. After diagnosis, they advised her that the steering column fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 55,000.
Steering wheel motor started grinding and locked in the lowest positiondifficult to steer in that position until fixed called nissan and they said there was no campaign, extended warranty, or problem they know of.they admitted to extended warranty on push button ignition replaced motor at a cost of $420 nissan is ignoring the hundreds of complaints i have seen on the internet forums, problem occurring in 2009 maximas and muranos.the dealership said they replace 2-3 a week. If it is true, at every dealership it is about40 % of all maximas sold in 09 have the bad motor which costs $189. Nissan needs to cover the cost for this defective motor !!!!!!the start button and steering column are related parts !!!!!!!
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph the steering column failed, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis. The contact was informed that the telescopic motor would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified, but offered little assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 33,000.
Cant start car.. Seems like steering wheel lock assembly malfunction. I have looked and noticed that alot of 2009 nissans have had this issue.
Stranded twice car will not start because of steering lock module not releasing allowing the car to start.
When looking up my make model and year of car, your site seems to indicate a "suspension/strut insulator cracking" problem, however, when i contacted the nissan dealership, they say for my vin # there is only one recall and it is for a "steering column" problem . I just want to know all the facts before i take it in for repairs this thursday, march 29, 2018.
Upon successfully unlocking the car, the push ignition failed to respond and the car would not start. The keyfob was able to lock and unlock the car, even set off the panic alarm but pressing the ignition button would not move the car out of "lock" position. The car had been parked for about 1.5 hrs before having been driven several miles.upon diagnosis by a licensed mechanic, the electronic steering lock module was found to have failed. On further online research, it was learned that this part is susceptible to failure and it is common to find many 2009 nissan owners of several models (altima, maxima, 370z) to have had this problem, within and outside of warranty.
The steering wheel column is locked in the down position making it very difficult to steer with the wheels hitting my knees and extremely hard entering and exiting the vehicle. I am unable to adjust the steering wheel column at all. There is a very loud grinding noise coming from the column, which seems to be the motor or electrical component/ gears.
My car started with no problem early morning to go to work, but when i got off it would not start. I saw a key light on, so i assumed that it was my intelligent key battery. So i got a new battery. I tried to start it again and it still would not start. I had it towed to the dealership and the next morning they did a diagnostic. They told me my steering lock unit is bad and it would be 1,020.00 to replace it. I asked how does something like this happens with no warning and they could not answer. I was told it just happens.this unit really needs to be recalled.
Nissan has a recall on certain 2009 nissan maximas electronic steering lock assembly. My maxima is not part of the recall. However, in july of 2014 during routine service at a nissan dealership the electronic steering lock was replaced. A few days ago it failed again, i had to tow it to the same dealership, i was informed that nissan will not cover any part of the cost of $797.19. My case number with nissan usa is 29509408. I'm asking for the replacement cost and $40.00 for towing cost for a part that was involved in a recall and had to be replaced twice.
The steering wheel tilt and telescope motor stop working. I took it to the nissan dealership to have repaired under warranty. Only to be told that i was one month out of factory warranty 3 years or 36,000 miles. The service advisor showed me that it was a bulletin dated in 2009, at the dealership service department showing there was an issue with the tilt and telescope motor. I'm out of warranty so i have to pay out almost 1,500 dollars to get it repaired. Its not fair to consumers when paying almost 40,000 dollars for a vehicle that has issues. It's not fair when the dealerships are aware of problems and not informing the owners until it's discovered after the warranty has expired. There should have been a recall on this vehicle or at least notified the owner to have done at their leisure.
Ntb09-094 steering column comfort adjustmentthe steering column power adjustment (tilt or telescope) does not work or makes abnormal noise when operating the switch. Although it is known problem and defect it is not covered by any warranty.
My wife was leaving home from work late nite and the car would not start i came down and jump the car and it was not the battery the key would not register at all. It was almost as if it did not recognize the key. I still have to get the car towed today which is already 150 plus the dealer is saying to fix it will be 500 plus. Are you serious nissan as soon as i get it fixed at the dealer im trading it in. This is the second time something has happen with that steering wheel.
Takata recall - i was at the barbershop getting my haircut and afterwards when leavingi was attending to crank up and drive off but my car wouldn't crank and it was in lock mode (steering wheel lock module )and took me almost a hour or two before it cranked up, so i was very frustrated because this happened and there was a lock indicator light on in the dash and today on september 18th, 2016 it happened again and now it won't say anything so i cant even drive my 09 maxima someone please get a recall for this.
Motor in steering column failed and caused the steering column to jerk and make a grinding noise when ever the steering column moved or when the door was opened. Nissan had a service and technical bulletin (ntb09-094) on this item dated september 23, 2009. So this has been a known issue and no recall has been done on this. I even have an extended warranty and in my warranty it states it should be covered by nissan and they refuse to cover it.
2009 maxima with 87,000 miles was operational throughout the day; we parked at a business establishment for lunch february 4, 2017 (winter; cloudy no rain or snow) outdoor temperature 45 f. When returning to vehicle, car would not start: steering wheel locked and intellikey system would not function; blinking dash light indicated car was in lock-down mode.had to call tow truck - after 75 minutes wait car was towed to nissan dealer for repair (still waiting). This is the second time the steering lock mechanism & ignition switch assembly locked up in this very same car (that time was october 2012 with 46,000 miles on the car).this is a serious problem since this appears to happen at random; luckily no one was hurt and it didn't happen in a dangerous situation or vicious weather. Previous repair was still under warranty, but i suspect this repair will be quite costly.the car should not lock up like this for no reason.the steering lock mechanisms appears to be either a faulty design or have problems functioning.please investigate and have this part recalled or repaired.
Steering lock malfunction
I was driving along a highway at 50 mph.when the steering wheel suddenly fell to my knees.this car has a retractable steering system. I was able to steer the car safely to the side of the road.i did not drive the car.the steering wheel was then able to be pushed back into the driving position.i brought the car to the dealership today, and they told me that the two electric motors in the steering column were defective (had to be replace)the cost woulkd be $2,000.the car has just 60,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the "indicator key not being recognized" message appeared. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering lock module failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
My 2009 nissan maxima is no longer starting and the brake and steering wheel have locked. It does not recognize that i have a key even though i do. Any attempt to start the vehicle results in a sporadic tick tick or screeching type noise for lack of a better word.
Got in the car to go home from work and pushed the start button. The steering column went down like normal then a grinding noise in the steering column was made. At that point, the steering column had to be raised manually with quite a bit of pressure. So much so i was almost afraid the airbag may deploy. Has never worked, like it did when i bought it new, since. Still makes a noise when its suppose to go up or down but never moves on its own.
I have parked my vechickle and after 10 min. I couldn't start engine. In nissan service they told me that i need replace electric steering column lock ($830.00). They told me too, that was recall on that part but unfortunately has expired.
I was stranded at work due to my steering wheel locking device would not unlock.nothing we tried worked.had my car towed to dealership to find out that this is a major issue with other owners.no recall on this safety issue at this time.nissan gave an extended warranty instead but did not make all owners aware.i was never notified of this issue.dealership repaired the device and i have a bill for $906.00 that is not covered under warranty because it expired june 2015.
The escl module went out on my maxima. From what i have been reading in many, many maxima forums, this is a common problem with the 2009 maximas'. In fact, many forums discourage buying the 2009 and suggest earlier models. Currently, my automobile is disabled at the mechanic's shop with a repair fee of $1070.
Today i got stranded, my 2009 nissan maxima wouldn't start due to my steering wheel being locked and wouldn't unlock. Tried everything the manual stated and nothing worked. Now i have to take it to the dealer where i'm going to get charged a lot of money for something that the dealer should pay for. I did some research and found out that nissan is aware of this malfunction but does not place a recall on it. My car isn't even paid off yet and i'm having an issue with it. I don't understand? i bought my car brand new in 2009 and is well maintained with low miles. Nissan should put a recall on this problem, it can be dangerous.
After vehicle was started, a grinding noise was heard and the tilt and telescoping of the steering wheel became inoperable. The steering wheel is stuck at the lowest position and the instrument panel cannot be seen while driving.this makes it uncomfortable because my legs are pressed against the steering wheel and could be a safety issue. There is a service bulletin out for this, but dealerships will not address it.the cost is roughly $800 to repair and there are multiple failures of this part(s) from what i have read on different forums.
Shut the car off went in the store for a short time came back out tried to start the car and nothing happened steering wheel was locked andwould not move . Had it towed to one garage they couldn't fix it so had to have it towed to a nissan dealerthey told they had fixed four in the past couple days at harbor nissan seems to be a big problem that nissan should take care !!!! could have been stuck in the middle of nowhere nissan owner's need help withissue !!! because they aren't helping !!
I just purchased the car (from an audi dealership) about a week and a half ago (as is) and was not aware of the steering problems i've now researched. There was this weird growling noise coming from the steering wheel, it would eventually stop but it was disturbing. My sister and i took the car to the dealership and learn of that it was the telescopic steering column and two motors needed to be replaced. The dealership quoted about $900 to fix it. As a college student who just spent the money to purchase the car... I just can't afford it. However, i understand just how serious and dangerous the problem is. The possibility of the wheel locking is not only a safety issue to me and my passengers... But to others on the road as well. I'm not sure why a recall hasn't been issued by nissan as they are aware of the problem. It also seems like a reoccurring issue with 09 maxima owners across the board. Nissan evan issued a memo, but nothing more?this is too dangerous of a situation to ignore. There are lives at risk.
Tilt motor on steering wheel froze in lowest position. Replaced by dealer for $435.68, after dealer refused to honor extended warranty.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. While parked, the contact attempted to adjust the steering wheel and was unable to because the steering column remained locked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised that the motors in the steering column would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
I got in my car tried turning it on and it would not turn over at all. I knew it wasn't the battery because all lights were on and fob still worked. When i put the actual key in slot it gave the missing key light. I had to have it towed to nissan where they told me it would be 1100 to fix the steering wheel lock. After researching online i saw a lot of the same complaints, and that nissan had issued an extended warranty. After calling nissan consumer affairs they informed me that my warranty had expired 4 months ago but that they would escalate to see if they would cover a portion. After being strung for three days, they decided that they would not cover any of the cost. They also informed me prior that normal protocol was for consumer affairs to call the dealership where the car was which they never did for, i just got an automatic no!
Parked at grocery store. On return key not recognized by keyless push starter. After 2 hours of trying to start engine in minus 15 degree celsius, i called for a tow truck and waited for another hour. Towed to nissan dealership. Left on lot as it was after hours. Next morning nissan technician advised steering lock module. $605.00 to replace.
The automatic tilt steering wheel motor made a grinding noise then failed to move the wheel.this model has an automatic entry/exit system that moves the wheel up and down every time you enter/exit the vehicle.the tilt mechanism attempts to lower the wheel whenever i start the car.this has put the steering wheel in a position that is extremely low and will not raise.this has made steering difficult and blocks the view of the instrument panel.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, the steering wheel was in a locked position and would not unlock. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The dealer stated that they needed to replace the gear box motor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 47,000.
Steering wheel tilt motor failed, grinding gear noise and when preset button is pressed, steering wheel goes all the way down. Pushing the up control for tilt only produces gear grinding noise, steering wheel will not go up.
Key indicator lock light came on.car would not start completely disabled.did research to see if others have had same problem on youtube and this site to find that multiple people have had same issue.had vehicle towed to dealership $1,100 estimate!!!
When we purchased the car last year, the steering wheel would go up. It made a grinding noise. The dealership fixed it under warranty for no charge. It started doing the same thing in august of 2016. Car is not under warranty now. There are so many folks having the same issue with the same year and model car. Nissan should recall these cars and fix the problem for free. The steering wheel will not move up. It is stuck in the down position and makes a grinding noise.
Tiresvibrated as if out of balance. Took back to dealer he rebalanced and rotated tires.this did not change vibration.continued to have vibrationand dealer statedhe could find nothing wrong with tires. Dealer stated he had never seen abad tire only bad drivers.these were new tires withless than 3000 miles.i continued to drive withn these tires but finally changed to cooper radials.have no problem since changing.feel dealer unjust in evaluation and complaint. Basically tires bouncedat interstate speeds. Out of 4 tires one worn drastically while others wore fairly even but all continued to be out of balance.cost at purchase about $875.00.
Car is stranded because the steering wheel lock is faulty.looked it up and nissan has a faulty part that is in several cars and they are letting people get stranded and charging them $1200 dollars to fix the issue. Should be a recall issue.here is lots of backgroundhttp://forums.maxima.org/7th-generation-maxima-2009/658823-steering-wheel-lock-issue.html
I bought a 2009 brand new nissan maxima so i wouldn't have car issues for at least 4 or 5 yrs. 3 1/2 years later my stupid car left me stranded. I was dropping off movies (in & out) middle of the day with all my windows down when all of a sudden it wouldn't start. I noticed a yellow key light /symbol was on (left side)at first didn't worry called aaa they tried everything the manual said to do. With no luck called nissan they said it sounds like its not recognizing the key and i had to tow it over. Now dealer says it has a internal failure in the steering lock assembly needs to be replaced. (fault code b2612) totaling $800.00 w/ labor.i declined service and to top it off my windows are stuck. (down) i'm mad/pist/frustrated don't think its fair that i have to pay $800 to start my car 3 1/2 year old car. Came home to get other quotes and complaints hoping someone else can help me. I found out i'm not the only one with this problem there's alot of maxima owners with the exact same issue. My mileage was getting close to 30,000 and that's when this problem seems to happen. Nissan is eliminating steering lock 2010 models. Im very disappointed with nissan thinking of trading in car don't want to deal with these kind of issues again. Someone please help!! not fair!!
Inti steering lock wouldnt allow me to turn engine off after parking in my driveway then not starting after i had to disconnect battery cable to stop engine which i am finding out to be widespread problem with this year model & others also have been informed of recall issue with both front struts same year & models
Steering wheel tilt motor grinds and remains in the down position.understand special bulletin ntb09-094 is posted.the car is precariously challenging to drive with the steering wheel in this position which also makes it dangerous to see the dashboard with the wheel in the way.too many complains on this problem. Nissan should issue a recall on the telescopic motors in this car asap.
Steering lock box repair. Extended warranty was issued & needs to be extended indefinitely. This is a manufacturer defect. Consumers will experience this inconvenience at different lifecycles of the vehicle & should be given the same reimbursements/courtesy as other 2009 nissan maxima or altima owners.
Oct 9, 2017, drove the car for 15 minutes, to destination. When readyto leave, car would not start, after pushing starter button. Change fob key batteryand still would not start.steering wheel was locked in upright position. Car towed to dealer. Dealer states the steering column lock is faulty. Replacement cost $1100+. This should be a recall item, obviously, it can happen at any given time and be an endangerment to stranded occupants.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while at a stop, the vehicle did not start. The steering locked without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact called (hilltop nissan located at 258 state route 10, east hanover, nj 07936) and was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to a recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed to file a complaint with the manufacturer's consumer affairs. The contact did so and was told there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the steering seized without warning. The failure occurred while driving 35 mph. The steering wheel was difficult to turn. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the rack and pinion failred. The rack and pinion was replaced. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was not available.
Car will not start with the electric push button. It seems to be the electric steering lock mechanism actuator. Nissan wants to charge $1000 for the part and $400 labor. It took us 15 mins to take the part out ourselves and unplugged it and plugged it back in. It did work a few times but now it wont work again. Looks like i will have to buy the part which is on amazon for around $400.00. This is a real problem with this part and nissan should honor an extended warranty on it! i had to have it towed twice before figuring this out! not sure why they have charge so much for such a simple fix. The dealer ship is a rip off...
Steering wheel lock/ignition part failed just out of warranty.part# 48700-9n00b.
I tried to start my car and there was a yellow key indicator on the dash. Next the steering column locked. I am currently unable to start my car.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. While the vehicle was idling in the driveway at home, a fire erupted from the front of the vehicle and underneath the vehicle. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. The dealer diagnosed that the high pressure power steering hose leaked power steering fluid onto the exhaust manifold and started the fire. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 177,000.
Two days after i bought my car from the dealership i had to have it towed from my house because it was unsafe to drive, field steering was so out of control i had a hard time keeping in my lane the brakes were if you were to just touch the brakes the slightest you would go out the windshield practically. After they claimed to have fixed the steering issues, i picked my car up from the shop and i was going down the city street and it jerked so hard to the right that i jumped the curb almost hit a bush and three people walking in the dealership told me it was my problem not theirs.*dt
My 18 old sons car just hit 87000 miles and the steering lock mechanism has failed. Not only is this a $900 repair but it is a reoccurring problem with nissan vehicles. My son was stranded in a parking lot at 12am. This has occurred 3 times while his car is off. He is unable to start it. Had to have it towed 3 times with the dealer saying it was a battery problem. Had the battery replaced. Nissan admits there is a steering lock problem and that the recall period ended in jan 3016. My son is 18 and just bought the car from a reputable major car dealership in town. Anytime a driver is at risk in a parking garage or lot or freeway with a car that had this notable problem it is a safety concern.
After starting my car i heard a loud grinding/whining noise coming from the steering wheel. The automatic tilt/telescopic steering wheel was stuck in the up position and failed to lower to the memory set position. The loud and distracting noise would happen every time i started the car and only stopped after manually trying to adjust the steering wheel, which did not work. The steering wheel is stuck in a position that so that i cannot see the gauges or speedometer properly which is dangerous when driving. After doing some research i have found this to be a common problem and nissan should issue a recall to fix this dangerous defect.
Was driving and steering wheel started grinding and moving.took to dealership and cost over $800.00 to replace two motors steering wheel.they turned it off so it stopped moving on it's own.still making grinding noise.they need to issue a recall as this has happened to hundreds of cars and is causing accidents.shame on nissan for just wanting to collect the money, because you can't even order the parts on your own to have someone else repair.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact started the ignition, and noticed that the automatic tilt steering wheel locked in the lowest downward position and would not maneuver out of the adjusted setting after several attempts. The steering wheel malfunction caused difficulty whenever driving. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defective steering wheel tilt motor. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
The steering wheel lock issue is leaving maximas stranded unable to start the car with these symptoms: what happens is when you try to start the car, without warning, the electric lock fails to unlock sending error message to the bcm. The car will not start in this case and will flash the intelligent key warning in the cluster.
Tilt and telescopic motors both failed locking the steering wheel in an awkward and uncomfortable position for driving.motors continue to try and run thus depleting the battery of energy while the car's engine is off.
Steering component - telescope and tilt function:1. The steering column telescoping function stopped working and can no longer be adjusted leaving the steering wheel in a locked position. Potential for injury if the steering wheel cannot be moved far enough away from the driver if the air bag deploys during a frontal crash.2. Steering wheel tilt function stopped working and can no longer be adjusted leaving the steering wheel in a locked position. This also poses a potential for injury if the steering wheel cannot be adjusted up or down to properly accommodate the driver if the air bag deploys during a frontal crash.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Control arms both need repair, repeated issues with tire inflation gauges, tire wear, struts, and steering. Needed repair costing $2700 to replace control arms.
My 2009 nissan maxima will not start. The yellow key light on the left comes on briefly. I had it towed to a repair shop and was told it is the steering column lock module. Part is not available due to a high failure rate.. The dealer, repair shop and the tow truck driver all noted this is happening frequently.this was also confirmed by some internet research. I think a nationwide recall is in order. Drivers are being stranded with no warning.
My steering tilt stopped working about a week ago (august 2013).the power tilt makes a grinding sound and will not go into the up position but rather gets stuck on the lowest level. I had to force it back up manually in order to enter/exit the car and to drive with the steering wheel at the proper level. I turned off the comfort settings and have tried not to change any of the other settings until i can get this issue looked at by the dealership or fixed. My husband and i both drive the vehicle so this has been an inconvenience for both of us. Even with the comfort settings off, the tilt still changes position at times (possibly because of unlocking from the driver's side door? i read something about that happening from one of the forums).i purchased my nissan as a pre-owned certified car in april of 2012 with 32,900 miles on it. I have only had the car just over a year so this is very disappointing.i've read several forums that this is a common problem but that nissan has not addressed it with a re-call. I am hoping my issue will be covered under my extended warranty and if so, it should only be a deductible of $50.00 according to what others have said on the forums. However, out of pocket this part can cost upwards of $600.00.
Turned car off to go into post office.returned and it wouldn't do anything.went had new battery put in key pad.still nothing.called nissan for suggestions.none given.had to have towed to nissan.after they checked was told steering lock unit had internal failure.never heard of this problem before after owning several cars. A very expensive repair and one that shouldn't be occurring on a 2009 model car.i 'm very disappointed with this car since i had heard so many good things about it.i gave up on cadillac's to get a nissan.sure believe i made a big mistake.there are other little quirks that have bothered me.i'm on my thirdcar battery.bought the last one in april 2014.the key pad locks have tobe changed every year.the original paint job is very shallow.the most important is the replacement of this steering lock unit.
Please investigate the occurrence rate of my complaint!!!the automatic tilt steering motor became inoperable and locked in the lowest down position upon starting the ignition. The car is uncomfortable to drive when the steering wheel is in the lowest position even when the automatic seat adjustments are set to the lowest position. I do not have full view of the dashboard instruments. Nissan has a tsb (technical service bulletin) on the issue and the dealer tells me it is something they are seeing more and more in the maxima and murano models. My maxima is just 29 days past the warranty expiration date.nissan must recall vehicle model year 2009 (nissan maxima) to repair the tilt steering motor at their cost. The repair costs to the consumer is over $600. I believe it is a safety issue and could result in improper steering by the driver resulting in an accident/injury/death. Thank you
My wife parked the car on monday night, and the next day when she tried to start it, nothing would happen, like it wasn't registering the key fob. So i went to the car and i tried to start it, and i noticed that i could turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, and all the way to the right. The steering wheel lock isn't working. After researching this problem on the internet, i found out that this is a common problem with an expensive fix that has to be fixed by the dealership. The problem with that is that we live 2 hrs from the nearest dealership, and on top of the lock being replaced, we will have to pay around $200 to have it towed. I'm thankful that my wife was here at the house when this happened, and not out somewhere with our new born daughter considering it has been below 0 degrees here the past few days.
My car was parked and wouldn't start when i went to crank it. I thought it was the battery but upon installing a new ine, the car still wouldn't start. I had it towed to the nissan dealership and was told it's the steering wheel column and it would be $1000 to repair.
Unable to start car due to streering is locked.no power to turn on any accessories.
Car was turned off and parked in a parking lot for 3 min. While i went to the atm machine. When i returned to the car it would not start. Warning light would come on, so i checked the owner's manual to look up the signal and it was the steering lock. Had to call a tow truck to have car towed to dealers for repair.
Power tilt started moving and grinding on it own and stopped when the gears stripped out in the down position.the tilt motor has failed.
The steering control module has failed, and will not allow the vehicle to start. Seems to be very common issue, and the same part and part number has been recalled on there other model cars, but not with this vehicle, when this part fail it will leave you stranded and not be able to start the car with the steering wheel possibly locked in place.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. When trying to start the vehicle, the "no key" warning light illuminated. As a result, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.

Multiple instances of the escl (electronic steering column lock) failing.nissan is offering to replace free of charge for vehicles with certain vin numbers (nhtsa #10119190, nissan campaign id pc516).however, nissan has stated that my vin# is not part of the program.nissan has also told me that the nhtsa set the parameters for the voluntary service campaign, and they are unable to explain why my car is not included in the program.i would like to know if it is true the nhtsa set the vin# parameters for this program, and if so why my car, which has had this problem multiple times, is not included.if it is not true that the nhtsa set the parameters, what are the potential liabilities nissan faces in blaming the problem on the nhtsa.this is an extremely dangerous problem that has left me stranded on multiple occasions..it happens without warning, and has potential to strand drivers in potentially harmful situations.
My dashboard is all melted from the sun uv rays.it looks awful its all sticky like glue and also causes a glare on the windshield at night and in the day.http://www.wptv.com/money/consumer/drivers-report-melting-dashboards-on-nissan-toyota-lexus-mazda-vehicles.
I bought my maxima last year and noticed my dash was sticky tried to wipe it off with a wet rag using water and it would not go away it is now spreading to me it looks like the resin in the dash material is melting. I have never seen such a thing it i looks like i have water on my dash. When i am driving into the sun the reflection of the area shines on to my windshield almost blinding me. No other part of the interior looks this way. I am concerned with driving it an do not see this to be something i should be responsible to replace. Like i said i have owned a lot of vehicles and have never seen a dash board look like this.
Dashboard is melting. It is stickyand has a glue like residue on the surface. It causes a severe glare when driving towards the sun. This creates an unsafe driving condition. Additionally, the console trim is disintegrating.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the dashboard of the vehicle was very sticky. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000. Updated 02/12/16*lj
Panaramic sunroof exploded driving on highway.no cars in front or behind.
The dashboard melting is causing extreme glare on the entire windshield and difficult to see during the day out of windshield so it's affecting my driving ability. And everything is sticking to it and it's destroying the other parts in my vehicle it is melting on too. I have sun visor on everytime out of the vehicle but stickiness is always there and continues to melt regardless.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while driving about 65 mph, the sunroof exploded without impact. I own a 2009 maxima. I took the vehicle into a repair shop to diagnose a problem that i was experiencing with the suspension. The vehicle made a thumping noise on rough or bumpy road surfaces and felt as though the front end was going to break apart whenever i hit even a small pot-hole. I was told that the complete strut assembly as well as the lower control arms had to be replaced. I was also advised that my vehicle was unsafe to drive. The cost and labor to replace these parts is approx. $1,400. I can't afford to repair the vehicle at this time as i am unemployed due to covid-19. I'm no mechanic but i will have to attempt to repair the vehicle myself.

Weak front springs in suspension!known defect...nissan should address this! the nissan maxima has plenty of weight up front (transmission and engine).my 2009 maxima s had the large front coil spring of the suspension snap in half without warning while turning a corner.i was turning and braking lightly when it snapped in two.scary!!the nissan dealership where i had the maxima serviced admitted that this is a common problem..."we replace a front spring on a '09-10' maxima at least every month, often for a surprised customer."estimated cost to replace just the front springs (they recommend you do as a pair or you will be back fixing the other spring real soon) was $1,000.00, and this price does not include the struts being replaced, --only the spring, strut bearing, and front spring seat that contact the spring directly are replaced for your $1000 out-of-pocket.to the best of my knowledge nissan has not admitted there is a common problem with the original front springs...no recall, no technical service bulletin, no discounted repair costs, nothing.however, please note that the new replacement spring from nissan has been redesigned with a substantially thicker gauge of spring and comes with a new superseded part number to replace the original spring part number.i have owned 5 nissan vehicles over the past 3 decades and they have been good cars overall.i have logged over 500,000 miles on nissans in total.it should be noted that each and every one of the springs (on the non-maxima nissans) i've owned has lasted the entire life of each vehicle.for a spring to snap in half without warning at 60,000 miles is unacceptable and dangerous.nissan should be compelled to address this front spring issue for all maxima owners.to me this is a black eye on the face of an otherwise excellent auto maker.

The manufacturer was called and provided a case number. The manufacturer called back and stated that they could not assist since there was no recall or current warranty. The dealer stated that the vehicle was not under a warranty, which was not true. The failure mileage was 72,300.
Inti steering lock wouldnt allow me to turn engine off after parking in my driveway then not starting after i had to disconnect battery cable to stop engine which i am finding out to be widespread problem with this year model & others also have been informed of recall issue with both front struts same year & models
Clicking noise in front suspension at initial back up or forward moving after car has settled for over several hours. It only clicks one time. Front end shakes at speeds over 60 miles and hour on smooth highway surfaces. Nissan states if the issue can not be duplicated when they test it then it can not be addressed. Penske nissan turnersville nj.
Strut mounts are cracked and disintegrating posing a danger of loss of control of the vehicle. There is a recall for this, but nissan claims that my car is not part of the recall.
Rattling, cracking, vibration and road noise coming from the front while driving on the road at any speed. Noise was very noticeable if road was bumpy. In my emails with nissan they only would refer me to a local dealership, which is 1 hour away. I forward nissan documents found on the internet stating the this year model had strut and suspension problems. Nissan could only tell me to see a local dealer.
Takata inflators with what having front end struts have been cracked very badly where steering is hard to maintain on any parts of driving is 100% bad.
Our vehicle began making loud squeaking/rattling sounds under our hood on the front passenger side. We noticed the sounds were getting louder, so my husband decided to take our vehicle into a nissan dealership for observation on december 24, 2013.while at the dealership, he was told very quickly that the sounds we had been hearing were the result of the cracking of our suspension/strut insulator.he was also told that the same cracking suspension/strut insulator problem that we are experiencing had affected mostly all of the 2009-2010 maxima model vehicles that had been manufactured, launching a recall (nhtsa campaign number 09v358000), effective september 16, 2009.after finding out this information, we contacted nissan motor acceptance corporation on december 24, 2013, but nmac was closed.on december 27, 2013, i contacted a representative at nmac and explained the issues that we are having with our 2009 nissan maxima, and stated the issues we are experiencing are the exact issues that were documented as a vehicle hazard under thenhtsa campaign number 09v358000.i was told by the representative that my vin # was not affected by this recall; however, i asked the representative to please extend the recall campaign to include my vin #, since obviously, my nissan maxima was one of the first 2009 models manufactured, and it is clear that whatever problems the rest of the 2009 models are experiencing, unless the formula regarding how the suspension/strut insulators had been manufactured when i purchased my vehicle had changed, then there is no way my vehicle could not have been affected.after several days of communication back and forth with the nissan representative, we were told today that nissan will not extend the recall to included my vin # but will only offer to pay 1/2 the cost of the parts only, no labor costs.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. On several occasions, while driving over bumps or potholes, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the strut area of the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to dublin nissan (2046 veterans blvd, dublin, ga 31021 (478) 275-2660), but the failure could not be diagnosed or duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
We purchased a 2009 nissan maxima after driving the car home we noticed a popping sound that was coming from the front of the car. We had it checked by a mechanic and was told it was the front end. He replaced the struts, and a couple of the other parts. When we pick the car up it was making more noise the when we brought it in. The mechanic took a look underneath the car near the wheel. He had to take one of the parts off because it had malfunction. He stated it was a faulty malfunction part. He replaced it and the one side stop popping. While the passenger front wheel still makes a popping noise. I have owed a toyota, honda and i have never had such an on going problem. After reading the issues that everyone is having with the front end.i think i have made a mistake buying a nissan.i have also replaced to rims because of cracking and warping.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not remain straight. The failure caused difficulty when the contact was attempting a turn.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the strut mounts had failed. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 09v358000 (suspension), but the manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,596 and the current mileage was 55,633.updated 8/26/13
Control arms both need repair, repeated issues with tire inflation gauges, tire wear, struts, and steering. Needed repair costing $2700 to replace control arms.

I have had to replace the axle on my car in 2013 and in 2019 which has been cracked each time. It was stationary and i was having my brakes done.
My backup camera come on sometime and sometime it show a black screen
The dashboard to my 2009 nissan maxima is melting and it is cracking around all the ac vents and around the radio & display console.
I was driving on the highway and i lost power and the car slowed down while i was still pressing on thegas, the transmission went out, almost had an accident, car was towed to my house and it's been sitting ever since.
Steering wheel lock problem-i was not aware of this problem and was not able to benefit from the extended warranty.i was stranded late in the evening and was not able to get home and did not want to leave my car. My car was parked and would not start. The experience was traumatizing.
The plastics on the dash are melting...
My wife is a high school teacher. She has an assigned spot which is right up to the curb near an entrance to the school, approximately 150 feet between curb and building.as she entered her spot and prepared to come to a complete stop, with her foot on the brake, the engine made a loud noise, she saw an exclamation point flash twice on the dashboard, and with her foot still on the brake, the car raced uncontrollably forward jumping the curb and did not stop until she pushed the stop/start button on the dashboard of the keyless system. As there were many students and several teachers in the vicinity, it is extremely fortunate that the car stopped for my wife and every one else in the area.
My 2009 nissan maxima is no longer starting and the brake and steering wheel have locked. It does not recognize that i have a key even though i do. Any attempt to start the vehicle results in a sporadic tick tick or screeching type noise for lack of a better word.
The dashboard of my 2009 nissan maxima melted and became sticky. The pattern in the substrate is now smooth and glossy causing a blinding glare when driving as it reflects light directly in the drivers eyes, both from the dash and the glass above.
I was driving on the hwy, no vehicles around me,and it was a sunny day, i heard what sounded like a gun shot. I pulled over and my moon roof over the driver seats exploded out. The glass flew off my car. About a week and a half later as i was driving on the interstate, my moon roof in the backseat exploded out, causing all the glass to fly off the car. Now my whole tempered glass is shattered. Thankfully at the time of the glass exploding, i was the only one in the vehicle. But the day my rear moon roof exploded i had to pick up my kids. I was only driving 20-25 mph and the shards of glass kept dropping on me and my kids (from the wind blowing the fabric) my oldest daughter got glass stuck in her as well.
The battery ran out, i sent it to a mechanic, a fault arrives and now the transmission fails, it does not accelerate when it does so, it gives me a code p0746 i do not know what to do see how they can help me thanks
My car would not start the key symbol light is on the dashboard. But the key locks and unlocked the car but it's doesn't start
I am experiencing shuddering/hesitation at take off. No warning lights showing so i called world care nissan in san antonio, tx and was told this is normal. This continues to happen and seems more pronounced now.
I am a soldier stationed in germany who encountered a tire blow out on 6 december 2011.i was fortunate enough to be driving on the military base and someone caught my attention to notify me.i took the vehicle to the auto shop on the base and told they could not order the tire through any of their vendors and i had to go through the local economy.however, before i left they inspected the tire to identify what caused the flat and stated it was a manufacturer defect.the tire seperated from the seams.it was very disturbing this happended, because i usually have my 10 year old daughter in the vehicle.also i am usually driving in the wee hours of the morning or at night.in addition the tire will cost $300 to pay for.i paid additional money for a tire warranty, which does not cover manufacturer defects.
My nissan maxima 2009 would not start and had to be towed to find out that it was my locking steering control on the column. I was stranded and nissan north america refused to cover this even though they new this flaw would happen at 72000 miles my car had 76000.my car was parked in my work parking lot. This should be a recall....
My 2009 nissan maxima has a cracked and melting dashboard. The result of this is that the sunlight causes an extreme glare on the windshield that makes visibility almost impossible on sunny days. A biker or pedestrian could be crossing the street in front of me and i would not know it due to only seeing the glare on the windshield. I have contacted nissan consumer affairs about this and they were nothing but rude the entire time. They said there are no known defects with it and they don't believe it is an issue. I told them that i cannot see and it is an extremely big issue and they disagree. I even offered to pay towards the cost of a new dashboard and they said they aren't going to do anything about it. There seems to be nothing else i can do at this point and it is only a matter of time before an accident occurs due to the blinding reflection from the dash.
My dashboard is melting. It has been like this for a very long time and nothing will fix it, as it is simply a problem with the way it was made. I have looked it up and i am not the only one with this problem. Many other people with a nissan maxima or a nissan altima have melting dashboards. Texas heat, along with many other states, is damaging our dashboards. Not only is it melting, but it breaks and cracks if you touch it. If a fingernail touches it, it creates an indention. I have many spots on my dashboard where pieces have fallen completely off. Not only is it breaking, but it is also very very sticky. It is hard to clean. The worst part is that it causes a glare and it is very dangerous to drive. Since it is so sticky, the sun reflects and causes a glare on the windshield. It makes it very hard to see and it is very dangerous.
2015 hyundai genesis sedan.radio, navigation, xm, tcd/dvd won't play.screencomes in and out constantly.battery drains.on my 2nd battery.been back and forth to service. 50,000 miles.hyundai now includes warranty for 2016 models because of these problems???
Dashboard melting very sticky and shiny, very hard to see out of windshield when sun glares off dashboard.
Inti steering lock wouldnt allow me to turn engine off after parking in my driveway then not starting after i had to disconnect battery cable to stop engine which i am finding out to be widespread problem with this year model & others also have been informed of recall issue with both front struts same year & models
Inability to clearly see road in certain sunny conditions from a melting dashboard which causes glare in middle of windshield.
My car keeps losing power after driving it for awhile. I had a new alternator and battery installed. It continues to lose power and starts up after a few hours. This is unsafe and very scary.
My dashboard is melting to the point where there is a dangerous glare from it on my window when i drive. Not only is it sticky and impossible to clean but the glare makes it hard to see the road.
The dashboard is melting and has become very sticky and shiny in sections. The shine creates a reflection on the windshield when driving
Changed my battery now my car will not start and i am unable to press down the brakes or turn the steering wheel.
Approaching a parking lot gate slowly with my foot gently on the brake. Engine suddenly surged to full power. I'm a 250 lb. Male and applied brakes with both feet and couldn't stop vehicle. Hit the gate arm causing little damage (inconsequential). Finally stopped and engine returned to idle when i managed to shift to neutral.
While pulling into a parking space, i experienced an unintentional acceleration of my 2009 maxima.i hit a light pole damaging the front right side of my car.several months later i experienced the same type of acceleration, but i reacted in time by using my brakes.
I've owned my nissan sense 2009 and over the last year the dash has been melting and causing a glare right in the driver vision of view. I'm hoping that there is a recall for this it is causing me to do less driving on sunny days due to glare.

And everything is sticking to it and it's destroying the other parts in my vehicle it is melting on too. The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, there was a loud explosion heard from the top of the vehicle. The contact merged to the shoulder and noticed that the front sun roof was shattered. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the entire front sun roof needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 78,000.
The dashboard has melted causing severe glare on the windshield.this defect makes is very difficult to see cars and pedestrians.this car was purchased for our son and at this point it is not safe to drive without a new dashboard or as we have it today, covered with a towel. We have contacted nissan at least 3-5 times however they have indicated that there isn't anything they can to do to assist. I did tell them that this is not acceptable for them to only cover cars in the state of florida and they should be loyal to all customers regardless of the state.
Dash defect. The dash on the driver's side looks like melted tar creating a glare while driving. It is my understanding that there was a class action lawsuit against nissan's 2008 & 2009 altimas that have the same issue. When i contacted nissan usa (case # 2716855) they told me that they could offer to pay for half of the repair which would still be $1000 out of pocket. My question is; are they waiting for a fatal accident to happen before they offer a campaign for recall? your attention to this matter would be appreciated.
Car was sitting parked; had not been driven for several days, went to get in car and rear view mirror was dangling. Rear view mirror had broken away from windshield, chunk of windshield broken where mirror had been attached.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. While driving 45 mph, the sunroof glass abruptly fractured. The contact sustained scratches to the eyes that required medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,916.
I have a 2009 nissan maxima s-model and i was driving home and i had my sunroof tilted. The sunroof glass made a loud noise and the glass shattered above my head. I looked for signs of an object hitting the top of my car but none were present. The glass shattered from the inside of the car outwards.
Wheelsbend easily and causes vehicle to vibrate.
Control arms both need repair, repeated issues with tire inflation gauges, tire wear, struts, and steering. Needed repair costing $2700 to replace control arms.
In may 2014, a roaring sound suddenly started, got worse, & then we had to have the dealer replace a wheel bearing.the sound quietened a little but was still there at all speeds.then, we had to have the dealer replace another wheel bearing a couple of weeks later.in late august 2014, we again heard the noise & had to replace the 3rd wheel bearing.in my 61 years, this is the only car with which i have ever had a defective wheel bearing problem.each time, i am out of pocket nearly $500!i bought this car new and have babied it; there is no reason besides faulty parts to cause this.from reading online, i see a pattern of faulty wheel bearings in nissan maximas.i could overlook 1 bad wheel bearing, but 3????and now i am worried #4 may be lurking.
The contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. After taking the vehicle to the dealer, the technician recommended that the strut be replaced. In addition, the rim on the front driver side of the vehicle was cracked due to a faulty strut. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. A recall for the strut was issued according to nhtsa campaign number: 09v358000 (suspension), but the vehicle was not included. The failure mileage was unknown.
