Takata recall.

9/02 - within a 90 mile drive:tachometer, speedometer and temperature gauge shut off while i was driving at high speeds.air bag light was also flashing.then they would either turn back on by themselves or while i was standing still the speedometer would be stuck at 100mph.further into the drive engine would shut off by itself losing brakes and power steering driving at speeds 0-40mph.first we repaced the battery then took it to nissan where they found "internal failure dash circuit board" which was replaced along with the left side seat air bag harness.1/03 - battery and brake lights came on.the car began sputtering and every other warning light was lit. Then the car would drive fine and did not shut off.the alternator was replaced this time.7/6/03 - speedometer, tachometer and odometer shut off for entire 2 1/2 hour trip.today 7/7 everything is fine (so far).

Possible "takata recall." these particular make, models and year, vehicles have been known to have problems where the airbags have not deployed after have high speed accidents. I am very scared to drive this vehicle right now because the airbag indicator light is on and i have been told by an authorized nissan dealer and two other separate automobile repair shops that the air bags must be replaced, at a cost of over $500.00, to insure their integrity and that they will properly deploy in the unfortunate case of an accident. Right now i can't even drive the car because it will not pass inspection due to the fact the failed air bag indicator light is illuminated!i have seen that there are too many cars of this same make, model, and year that have complaints of this same nature, exhibiting the same airbag failure warning light anomalies and worst of all, many of them not deploying after high speed accidents when they should have!please include these vehicles in the takata recalls, as it has shown to have an significant manufactures defect, which will eventually claim some lives if not addressed asap; please do not let me or someone else lose their life due to this issue not being addressed appropriately and immediately!i trust that this information will land on the desk of someone who will establish the facts i have presented here today and take the public's safety to heart and don't leave this issue up to whatever fate may come of it!thank you for hearing my voice, it represents many others who still drive this same vehicle; even though the numbers of us are much less at this time than when the vehicle was first manufactured; we still deserve the same consideration given to all of the newer vehicles are receiving especially due to the fact that numbers of those vehicles and drivers are much greater!sincerely, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dt*:the contact stated the air bag light illuminated intermittently.the dealership determined the entire air bag system needed to be replaced.updated 5/30/2006 - the brakes made noise in the rear of the vehicle.the vehicle pulled to the right.the check engine light illuminated.the tcs light illuminated.the a/c didn't seem cold enough to the consumer.

I have a 99 nissan maxima se and i wish i had known about this website before purchasing. After reading the multiple and consistent complaints regarding the flashing "airbag" and "check engine soon" lights, i can't believe there has not been a recall.the defects reported are the same on each individual 99 maxima listed. My vehicle has 90,000 miles on it, no wrecks, regular maintanence as recommended and have spent way too much money on repairs for sensors, cylinder failure and now the airbag malfunction! the service folks want $600.00 to fix that.i have read the technical notices that went out and obviously the defects were not corrected on the cars whose owners are filing the complaints now. I also have a 1993 maxima with 217,000 miles on it. I have now spent more money in repairs on the 1999 that i have had for 2 years than i ever did on the 1993 in the entire 13 years i have owned it!the 1999 model obviously has some serious failures. Again, review the technical notices! nissan needs to step up to the plate and do the right thing. If not a recall, then at the very least take care of the ones here who have taken their time, energy and money and fix the defects at nissan's expense. If not then i'm with the guy whose next purchase will be a honda or a toyota!

I was in a front impact accident going approximately 15-30 mph.the person i rear ended was stationary and his air bag deployed.my airbag did not deploy.the damage to my car was extensive causing the hood to fold into an inverted "v" smashing in the radiator etc.i was very concerned that my airbag did not deploy.i was not injured in the accident.

The consumer noticed that the air bag light had illuminated on the dash.the vehicle was taken tot he dealer who determined that the air bag had shorted out.the consumer was told that the remaining air bags will not work until they were replaced at consumers expense since warrenty has been reached. *tc

When traveling on the highway at 60 mph an accident ocurred and there was a crash. During this occurrence, driver's side air bag, as well as the passenger's side air bagdid not deploy. Also, seat belt did nothold consumer, causing his chest to hitthe windshield.

Consumer states of having problems with air bags did not deploy after been involved on a front collision. Dealer was not contacted.ts

Vehicle invoved in a collision with another vehicle which ran in front of consumer, and caused consumer to hitthe other vehicle on driver side; consumer's air bags failed to deploy. Dealer/manufacturer notified. Seeking additional information from nhtsa in this matter.

No deployment of airbag during vehicle collision, resulting injury (back).nlm

Consumer states that has been on a front collision air bags did not deploy. Dealer was not contacted. Ts

I own a 1999 nissan maxima.the airbag light started to flash for no apparent reason.vehicle was taken to tynans nissan in ft. Collins, co on july 2, 2004 for diagnostics.was informed that a module was defective, authorized ordering new module ($450).returned on 7/20/04 for replacement, was told that the error was misdiagnosed and a service bulletin (ntb00-043) stated that " if a 1998 or 1999 maxima has the srs light flashing... Install a srs side air bag module of the type indicated in the parts information to resolve this incident.this new side air bag module (with long harness) replaces both the air bag module and the seat sub-harness."i refused to authorize this repair, the dealership then replaced the original parts.the problem then went away.root cause is the manufacturer originally used a two piece wire harness that may (in my case does) become disconnected when the seat is moved throughout its range of motion.the replacement harness is longer and has a direct connection according to nissan.i strongly feel that this safety issue should be the responsibility of the oem not the consumer due to the flaw in design.if someone not as technical as myself (electronics and manufacturing engineer) was to have this problem they would be responsible for over $1000 in cost due to nissans poor design.

A week after the air bag light was flashing i took the car to the dealer to get it check.they told me that the right air bag module needs to be replaced.the extended warranty that i got when i bought my car a year ago did not cover this type of repair.i would have to come up with $500 to replace the air bag.the car has not been in an accident therefore i consider this a defective part on nissan.

My 1999 nissan maxima se had one coil replaced in 2003. This year i replaced the alternator as well. My airbag light flashes constantly and my clock goes in and out of service. My service engine soon light came on and the car runs very rough. When idling it sounds like a choking piece of crap and on the hills the light flashes. I was told i had a bad coil again and took it for a diagnostic that said multiple misfire and replace all six coils. I have read complaint after complaint about coils. When i bought my maxima new i thought i was buying a car that was reliable but i am hearing that coil replacement is the rule not the exception. I also have rear brake noise....since year three of owning the car. I have replaced two sets of brake pads as well.

Dt: 1999 nissan maxima.the side air bag module was defective.the air bag indicator was blinking . Took vehicle to the dealer andthey said it was a bad air bag.the dealer would not give any information. There was no recall.

Two sucessive air bag disconnect failures on a 1999 nissan maxima.on 3/29/03 at 36,834 miles the air bag light came on and i went to the dealer for a diagnosis, the told me the bag circuitry was "open" and the bag would not deploy. They replaced the drivers side air bag module under warranty.on april 20th 2004 at 50,300 miles the air bag light came on again and i went back to the dealer. This time they told me the passenger side air bag circuitry was " open" and the right side module would have to be replaced. Initially ,they told me it was still within the 60 month warranty, subsequent to that statement they have insisted it is out of warranty and i have to pay $422 .my complaint is that a expensive car with only 36,000 miles has a air bag failure and then again at 50,300 miles the opposite side fails again. I am concerned that this is a design flaw and the circuitry could be in the failure mode and the light may not come on or the accident could occur and the air bags not deploy. I think there should be an investigation by nissan and at least have the warranty extended .

While driving air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dashboard. Dealership indicated that airbag module failed, and the problem still existed. No repair have been made at this time.the vehicle was out of warranty by only two weeks.the manufacturer was contacted for a goodwill service.the dealer was unable to obtain special assistance of even partial coverage of the replacing the air bag module.

I hope my report will not be ignored because it doesn't have an accident or death. After going to my dealer, calling nissan, calling nat. Safety hotline, going to a certified safety seat tech. I was told that no carseat will fit properly in my car!

I bought a nissan maxima 1999 for my daughter only to find out that she got in her car one morning after just having her vehicle at a mechanic for a check up/service.they told her the car was fine. She then proceeded down the road to the freeway, stopped for gas and the car would not start.panicked by the 'area' of town she was in i had a tow truck from aaa dispatched to meet her as soon as possible. The vehicle was towed back to the mechanic and we were told that the key to the vehicle had become deprogrammed.i proceeded to call the dealership and they refused to help me unless i had the vehicle towed to them.a scam alert to ensure that you must use a dealership at high cost. My fear is that should my daughter be headed through the arizona desert in 120 heat and this same situation would have come up without the ability to contact someone, her (or anyone else's) life could have been in danger. I find this key malfunctioning to be a sever safety hazard and that more people should know that they could endanger their lives if the key malfunctions and they are not near a dealership.i believe a safety recall on this vehicle should be considered.i have another nissan fx45 that i do not want to drive for fear that the key could malfunction in a similar manner leaving me stranded as well.

While driving my car, it started to miss, sputter, run bad, vibrate and almost turn off. The check engine light came on and after having the codes read (p1320) and researching dtc p1320 and/or spark knock (detonation) due to ignition coil (s). I find out that this is a very common problem with several years of maximas. I also found out that there are newer coils with a gray dot, that is to be used to replace the older defective ones. Not only are the bad ones recommended for replacement, but all 6 are recommended for replacement. Why is this? i believe is was because of a knowndefect in the parts. I have already replaced several of these coils and it don't take long before the check engine light is back on, and the car is once againmisfiring and getting bad gas mileage because of code p1320, another bad coil. Nissan should recall these cars and fix this continuously ongoing problem . This misfiring on interstates and busy roads at high speeds can be very dangerous, because it slows the car down all of a sudden and could result in a rear end crash. This misfiring also results in fuel not being burned in the cylinder and is wasted.

Three faulty ignition coils in 1 1/2 years.two in less than one month on my 1999 nissan maxima gle.

The ignition coils are defective.the coils will, after a brief time, begin to misfire again even after being replaced.many people have blogged with this same problem.

I have a 1999 nissan maxima, 5-spd, with 142k miles.generally the car is a treat to drive and i have had no significant problems to date with its operation.however, upon traveling westward, from va along i-70 in oh, the car simply cut out from its current speed and stopped accelerating and began to hesitate and buck.it was as though the ignition coils briefly stopped working or the fuel filter suddenly became clogged with paraffin.since my wife and i were traveling at freeway speeds, this was a bit disconcerting.i immediately moved the vehicle over to the far right lane and depressed the gas pedal for more fuel.that action worked briefly, butthen the car bucked repeatedly again.we were able to manage the remaining 80 miles toward home thereafter.i feel that either the ignition coils are malfunctioning w/o warning, or that some other mechanism of fuel feed system is failing also w/o warning.the car does not knock or ping, maybe the gasoline or fuel injectors are fouling (however, i use 87 ron grade gasoline, and often add octane boosters, i also clean the fuel injectors by running chevron'stechron about every 3500 miles).this may signify a severe problem lurking; i hope you consider issuing a recall for the 1999 maxima.

1999 nissan maxima - runs rough and loses power.has less power when pulling away from stop sign into intersection.has been happening for over 1 year. Ignition coil problems need to replace all 6 coils, have replaced egr valve, o2 sensors and plugs to no avail.

The coils on my nissan maxima 1999 can never get fixed. This a "nissan part" problem that needs to be investigated. I have the car for almost 6 years and the coils have been a problem ever since i first got the car. The do not want to take responsibly on this and the problem seems not being resolved by anybody. Please look on the internet and you will see that there are thousands of people being ripped off by the nissan dealers. I will give you a website and you will see that i am not telling you jokes. Http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/nissan/maxima/r64073/.again, there is no solve to this problem, even if we change the coils ten times, the problem will still remind. Please, you are the government and this needs to be investigated. I hope this helps to get more people and finally make them pay for this part ignition coils are a defective parts on nissan maximas 1999!!!!!!

The contact owns a 1999 nissan maxima.the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle was able to restart.the failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, who stated the ignition switch needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was unknown.

The computer chip keeps failing. This would cause everything - electric locks, power windows and the wipers - not to work properly. Have taken to a mechanic and was informed of possible electrical problems. Manufacturer indicates there isn't any problems for them.

I had check ignition lighton while my1999 nissan maxima was under warranty and for years after that.you get tired of going back to the dealer and the problem is never solved.the problem turns out tdobe the ignition coils; all replaced at a cost of about $800.00.the receipt is in the car and i can produce my exact cost of repair if a recall would be issued.it is obvious that this is a huge problem and should be addressed.my light has not come on since replacing all the coils.hopefully my complaint will be the one that begins an action by you.

Car began running very rough.needed ignition coil replacement.$800.00why does every maxima have this same problem?

Dt*:the contact stated the air bag light illuminated intermittently.the dealership determined the entire air bag system needed to be replaced.updated 5/30/2006 - the brakes made noise in the rear of the vehicle.the vehicle pulled to the right.the check engine light illuminated.the tcs light illuminated.the a/c didn't seem cold enough to the consumer.

I have a 99 nissan maxima and the service engine light came on this week. Thelocal garage did a diagnostic test and found codes for knock sensor and ignition signal.the local garage was puzzled because they've never seen a knock sensor fail before. Called 2 local nissan dealers and both say it's ignition coils (and the knock sensor was ok) and unless the diagnostic says which one went bad i'd have to replace them all for $600 to $800 because my car is out of warranty. It looks like this is a common problem and wonder what it would take for a recall? *nlm

1999 nissan maxima, ignition coil failure and service engine soon light on. Car looses pickup, rough idling and knocking.

Car had just been shut off from running to store i ran inside my house real quick came back out to leave again but car didn't start. Battery light came on and i noticed white smoke coming from under hood. Smelled like electrical parts were burning so i opened hood to notice fire coming from alternator. I used my shirt to put out and during inspection of damage found the fire burned wire harnesses and part of valve cover assembly where oil cap is located.this is an original oem part and the car only has 118,000 original miles. Found that a recall was done on the years prior for same issue but dealer stated they would not do nothing due to no recall. Alternator s don't just catch fire...

Started the car.heard a strange noise while driving out of the driveway about 10 mph, then smelled something burning, stopped the car and saw smoke coming out from the engine.turned the car off, opened the hood and saw that the alternator was on fire.after researching the internet, found several cases where the 1999 maxima has an issue with the alternator catching on fire, in some cases causing the vehicle to burn.also found out that nissan had a recall on the 1998 maxima for alternator fires.called nissan about the problem.a nissan rep called back and called it a "thermal incident."i explained that a fire is not a "thermal incident" but is a fire (this is like describing a shotgun wound as acute lead poisoning).the nissan rep said that due to the age and mileage of the vehicle, anything could happen.i explained that i understand that components do fail over time, but that a fire is unacceptable and this event could have caused a house to burn down or a car accident.the nissan rep said that the life of a nissan is 100,000 miles and basically said that anything could happen after that.i asked her if that was nissan's position and she assured me that she spoke for nissan.i explained that i had several cars with over 100,000 miles and that i had replaced components, but none of the vehicles caused a fire.search the internet for maxima alternator fire--there are several instances for years before and including 1999.this seems to indicate that this is a problem with the maxima and that they should be recalled.car fires are unacceptable.

1999 nissan maxima - jn1ca21a3xm300571 this complaint is in reference to nissan's recall of 97/98 maximas.the recall was for a faulty alternator.i have a 1999 nissan maxima (build date 6/98) that had the same exact problem/symptom as the recall.the campaign id / nhtsa # is r2010 or r2015 \ 02v-171.4/8/05 - started my car and heard a humming noise coming from engine.i got out and opened the hood and saw a white smoke coming from the alternator.after further investigation saw a fire in the alternator.ran to the passenger side removed my 4 and 2 year old children and moved them to a safe location.i then found a water bottle in the car and poured the water on the fire.1:00 pm 4/12/05 called difeo nissan in jersey city, nj and they refused to do anything about the situation based upon the vin 1:10pm 4/12/05 called nissan consumer affairs and filed a report with tamika x3795 reference # 4908176 4/21/05 after numerous calls and follow ups, they responded that i call my insurance company and that my car was not part of the recall.case closed.rep was named wanda at nissan consumer affairs at 800 647 7261 x 3814have been without a car for weeks now.

I also have rear brake noise....since year three of owning the car. I have replaced two sets of brake pads as well.

The contact owns a 1999 nissan maxima. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact smelled an electrical burning odor and various warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle shut off completely and was pulled over to the side of the road as smoke appeared from the engine compartment. The contact then noticed flames. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with ice water she had inside the vehicle. An independent mechanic arrived at the scene and diagnosed that the alternator caught on fire. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the 1997 and 1998 models were included in nhtsa campaign number: 02v171000 (electrical system). Although the contact's vehicle was a 1999, she found several complaints online and associated the failure with the recall. Autonation nissan marietta (925 cobb pkwy se, marietta, ga 30060, 770-674-6081) was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 96,000. The vin was unknown.

Prior to getting my 1999 nissan maxima inspected, the 'service engine soon' light turned on and i eventually found out that the light is on because a few of my ignition coils are no longer working. Unfortunately, this will be about a $1500 repair (because i was told that i need to replace all of the coils because they can't detect which ones are out) and i am a college student who doesn't make much more than twice that in a year. I was researching online to see if there were any cheaper ignition coils i could purchase, and came to find out that there are so many people with this exact same problem that a petition has been created with over 3,000 signatures(here is the petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?nis_ign&851). I am going to contact my local nissan dealership tomorrow (as i was busy getting estimates from other mechanics ever since i found out about my failed ignition coils until today when i learned that many others with '99-'03 nissan maxima's had this same problem) and hopefully something will be done, but more than anything i believe that they should do what's morally right and issue a recall.

The ignition coils are defective.

Ignition system immoblized when using proper coded nissan keys.car towed to dealer . Keys recoded. A car that can't be depended upon is a safety hazard. I want system rewired and deleted from car. Others are having the same problem.when will it happen again? what if it's late at night and no phone available? i have a bad heart.this could kill me. I am told only a nissan dealer can repair this.my favorite garage can't. Called nissan to complain four times. Talked to four differant people. Got four differant stories.please make these people rewire this car so it can never possibly happen again.they know this problem exist but only offer verbal reassurance which is not satisfactory.

Ignition coil failure.

I had several problems with al 6 ignition coils of my 1999 nissan maxima that i no longer have. I have written numerous complaints on an issue that should have been a recall.

Defective ignition coils.*la

All coils had to be replaced. It seems like a very high number of maximas produced in 1999 had this problem. Mine started occurring at 39000 miles. Dealer refused to cover repair cost that (including parts) was quoted at $1200.

Anyone can spend just a moment of time on the internet and find that nissan maximas from 1999 to 2003 , perhaps a lengthier time period, mine is a 1999.have major problems with ignition coils and starters.yet no recall has ever been issued!i have seen hundreds of consumer websites of people reporting these problems with coils and starters.i just had to replacestarter and coils.some people report replacing them every 10,000 - 20,000 miles!!!this is a pricey repair at about $1000 to $1500 per event!please urge nissan to recall these defective parts and refund those who have had to pay for this service.

In june of 2003, my check engine light came on.after paying for the expensive computer diagnosis i was told that one of the ignition coils was bad.however they could not tell which one and i would need to replace all of them eventually.since it was so expensive my mechanic said we could start by replacing one at a time that worked fine up until now.recently my car has stalled in traffic.i don't understand why if so many people are experiencing the same problems, why a recall is not being done at nissan's expense.i wish i would have found this website before i purchased my maxima.i will think twice before buying another nissan.

Recently, one ignition coil failed. My nissan dealer told me that since one failed, all of them would need to be replaced because they would probably all fail soon after the first one failed.if dealers can't keep replacement ignition coils in stock because so many of them are failing on the maxima, then shouldn't it be a recall. It cost me over $800 to have them replaced. Also, if i press the unlock button too many times on my wireless key remote, the windows roll down partially. Does anyone else think that's an odd and annoying thing that shouldn't be happening. Hello, recall!*la

Defective ignition coils. When i bought my 99 maxima the dealer supposedly "fixed" the problem. By not even a week after i had the car the service engine light went on. Took it back to the dealer, they said they could not find the problem and reset the computer. This went on about 3-4 times until the warranty was up, then they found that the #6 ignition coil was bad. After that was replaced, a month did not go by before the service engine light went on again. This time the #4 ignition coil was bad. After getting that one replaced, literally not even 5 hrs went by before the light went on again...i have not taken the car back to the dealer yet. But something needs to be done about this problem...i spend over $200 each time i have to fix this problem.

Vehicle failed to start after repeated attempts.when vehicle started, the "service engine soon" light was illuminated.engine was misfiring.dealer ran diagnostic test and retrieved fault code p1320 from the ecu.was informed that all six ignition coils were defective and need to be replaced.nissan issued a technical service bulletin (tsb #01-060) in september, 2001, which addresses the problem involving the ignition coils.dealer refused to cover repair under manufacturer's warranty or goodwill program.this is an obvious manufacturing defect which could result in the engine stalling while being driven, potentially causing an accident and injuries.i request that the nhtsa launch an investigation and order nissan to recall the affected vehicles and replace the defective ignition coils, free-of-charge.

In my 1999 nissan maxima i have had to have 2 ignition coils replaced. I have later found out that many many other maxima owners are having the same problem with their 99 maximas. When i called nissan they told me that there were not enough complaints to issue a recall at this time.

My 1999 nissan maxima will display service engine soon light and cannot be reset. I have replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs plus the air temp sensor. This code p1320 is always on and there seems to be many other nissan owners with this problem.

Could get inside of vehicle with key, but could not start vehicle through ignition switch. Electronic devise would not read key, and computer had lost the combination.dealer reprogrammed the key.

1999 nissan maxima has been idling rough, and check engine light on, took to mechanic for diagnostic. Needs one ignition coil and knock sensor replaced. From research this is an apparent common problem in this car.

Vehicle is losing power intermittently while driving. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

I was experiencing a rough idle and rough engine running, feeling as though the car would cut off at any moment.the dealer tested my car and determined that the ignition coils were bad.they had to replace all 6 at $100+ each because they had no way to tell which of the 6 were bad.it is unlikely that all 6 were bad because the car would still start and run, only having problems intermittently.i find it appalling that i was forced to pay for 6 parts plus labor without being able to determine if all of the parts truly needed replacing.

Engine coils - i recently discovered that i have an engine coil problem in my 99 nissan maxima.i found this very disturbing considering when i purchased this car it was one of the leaders when it came to engine performance.what i found even more disturbing was when the dealer informed me that they usually go out around this time, which does not seem to be normal to me.especially given the amount of replacement costs.i spent some time on the internet and discovered this is a reoccuring problem and there is even a petition for it.this makes me rethink my choice of purchasing a nissan for reliability.especially, given that nissan is not standing by their product and ensuring this problem is rectified for the customer at no additional costs.i am a loyal nissan customer and have gotten several individuals to purchase nissan's however this experience is changing my outlook completely.in closing, i would like to mention that when i looked for recall information on nissan's website it was surprising to see the comments "we're our own toughest critics", if this is true why aren't the number of people experiencing my problem being taken care of, why are engine coils a reoccurring issues that the consumer have to bear the expense for?i will be escalating this matter, but wanted to lodge a complaint here as well.i do not think that a human life should be sacrificed in order to catch the eye of a manufacturer when it comes to vehicle performance.

E-mail fm parag mehta (ga) request assistance in getting nissan to recall the ignition coils on the 1999 nissan maxima.*mr

Ignition coils have gone bad in the car ,causing cylinder misfires.

Engine is not working smoothly after starting. Car is shaking. Dealer replaced coils, all 6. Problem was gone for about 8 months but it's back again.

Faulty ignition coils on 1999 nissan maxima.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 3 mph, the vehicle hesitated, bucked, and nearly stalled.this was accompanied by vibration in the entire vehicle.several months later, the vehicle was taken to a service dealer who determined the ignition coil was not functional and that the calipers on both rear brakes had locked up on the wheel.there were no repairs made on the calipers.

All 6 ignition coils required replacement at 70,000 miles on '99 nissan maxima due to poor engine performance and ses light.there is an online petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/nis_ign/ with over 2300 complaints for this exact problem on '99-'03 cars each costing the consumer between $500 and $1500 dollars for these nissan maxima series (most not covered under general warranty).in addition, the consumer affairs department at nissan is unresponsive to consumer complaints.a similar problem was found and rectified by volkswagen and audi of america, inc. For a general recall related to failed ignition coils.http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2003/02/04/154251.html

My vehicle,a 1999 nissan maxima was experiencing a severe engine misfire condition. I took it to a mechanic and was informed that the ignition coils were defective and would need to be replaced. I was told that the dealer just happened to have plenty in stock as this was a common part failure with this model. I ordered the new and improved parts with a total price of around $ 500.00. I am amazed at what a widespread problem this is with the ignition coils and yet nissan has acceptedno responsibility for this defective part. I like nissans but i'm afraid if they don't step up to the plate i will be looking at a hondafor my next car purchase.

Vehicle unexpectedly started to run rough, misfired repeatedly, and experienced episodes of near stalling, while driving at highway speeds.the service engine soon light illuminated and vehicle continued to operate under a severe loss of power before being able to safely pull the vehicle off the highway.dealer determined fault codep1320 was stored and all six ignition coils were faulty and needed to be replaced.technical service bulletin (tsb #01-060) was issued by nissan in september 2001, which outlines the ignition coil problem.the dealer refused to cover the repair under manufacturers warranty or extend any goodwill when the technical service bulletin was brought to their attention.this is a critical product defect which could result in a serious accident, injuries, and even death, should the engine stall while driving vehicle.a serious investigation should be initiated by nhtsa demanding nissan to immediately announce a recall to all vehicles concerned.

1999 nissan maxima. Service engine light goes on. Fault code indicates engine misfire. Several coils have been replaced but they now intermittently fail on cylinder 4 and 6.

The "check engine soon" light came on. I took it to a service station and they ran a diagnostic test and said it's misfiring. They recommended replacing all six ignition coils @ ~ $150 each and said that this is a common problem with nissan maxima's.

I have a 1999 nissan maxima and have 145,000 miles on it.ignition coil has gone bad and nissan wants to charge me 1200 dollars to replace.it seems i have read this as a problem inalot of maxima's.considering recalling this issue in older maximas?

I took car to nissan dealership after no. 2 coil was bad and they wanted to replace all of the coil packs, rather expensive. I got a second opinion, and they replced the bad one only. A month later, no. 4 went bad while driving in traffic. When the part came in for this one, it was a different part number.something is fishy here. There needs to be a recall. The private repair company told me there appears to be a massive problem getting parts, yet no recall?

Nissan maxima has ignition coil problem. Very common. It has occurred the second time on my car. It is a 1999 nissan maxima se.

The ignition coil packs failed which caused the check engine light to illuminate.*nlm

Took car to dealer because of rough running engine. Dealer says 4 ignition coils need to be replaced but they did not have in stock.when i called several other dealers to check for parts, i was told they can't keep ignition coils in stock because everyone with a 1999 maxima needs them. I asked if there was a recall and they said no. If everyone needs them, then i think it is faulty equipment and should be a recallable item.thank you.

Just found out that we should replace all 6 coils in our 1999 maxima.nissan was aware of this problem and decided to rip us off even more (since the car is falling apart in eveyway possible) by only offering replacement coils - which are better instead of a recall.it wasn't until i had the coil problem that i learned that it was a problem in all nissan '99 maximas.it is costing me over $700!

1999 maxima 72000 miles. Engine began running rough. Paid for a $65 diagnostic and mechanic recommended replacing the coils. Had to replace all six ignition coils. $1000 for sealer repair. I did the repair myself for $390 in parts and 3 hours of time.

I am looking at $1400 to replace 6 ignition coils, this is preposterous, this is a known problem that should have been corrected. My car has less that 60,000 miles on it, and i have babied it and made sure only the best has been used on it. There are thousands of people complaining about this, and the problem remains. I am finishing this and writing a letter to my congressman and senators. I bought this car on nissan's reputation and knowing that they allow this to exist, i will never buy another nissan, period.

I am experiencing an ignition coil misfire.the technician, not nissan, indicates nissan has been having problems with this and from reading complaints, i see there are some listed.while i realize this is not a safety issue, it is an issue for me personally because the problem is not caused by me but is rather a nissan manufacturing problems and should be recalled and paid for by nissan.i have been very pleased with my maxima and would like to stay with nissan but if they are not going to acknowledge the problem and fix it, i don't believe i'll stay with nissan when i trade vehicles.*la

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle was misfiring.the dealership determined that the six ignition coils were defective and were replaced with new ignition coils.the vehicle began misfiring, 3000 miles after the first repair and the check engine light illuminated on the dash.updated 9/18/2006 -

Consumer cannot start vehicle with key, the key will not turn ignition switch, . Consumer contacted dealer, and dealer had to recode key.

Car cranks but will not start/catch.security indicator light is illuminated indicating vehicle immobilizer system is malfunctioning.appparently the ignition key has deprogrammed and needs to be reprogrammed.

Went into our locked garage, and car wouldn't start. Local repair guy said the computer had locked out our keys, thinking that car was being stolen. He said that many people are encountering this... So it was towed to nissan.nissan confirmed the nats system had locked out the keys, and charged us money to re-program the computer and our origional keys... Nothing was replaced, but now it works! this is crazy!extended warranty from nissan did not cover it either.we pay because their computer program has a glitch?

Consumercould get inside of vehicle with key, but could not start vehicle throughignition switch. Electronicdevise would not read key, and computer had lost the combination. Dealer reprogrammed the key.

When leaving the grocery store my car would not start.the failure resulted in my walking home and loss of income.the car was towed to a shop and was diagnosed as ignition system immoblized because of the anti-theft system.apparently, the key code has a problem and all keys and car need to be reprogrammed.now, car has to be towed to the dealership as only nissan can fix.and nissan is charging me for their defectiveness!! so, end result count on two towing bills, mechanic charge, nissan dealership charge and delivery of car back to shop.nissan is aware of this problem and has not issued a recall even though it is quite common.now how am i supposed to account for when my car will not start again?does not strike me as a dependable car.and, i do not have a cell phone, so what time of night will i be walking home next time?

While drivingengine light illuminated.once it came on it stayed on. They replaced the crank sensor twice.however, consumer received a tsb regarding ignitiion coil. The service bullietin had already been out 11 months prior.

I began having misfires on my 1999 maxima in may 2005.dealership stated that one of the ignition coils was going bad but would have to wait for the check engine light to come on before being able to tell which coil was malfunctioning. Less than two weeks later, the check engine light came on.i took my car to the dealership and the mechanic replaced the defective coil at a cost of around $250.less than two months later, in july, another coil began malfunctioning (misfiring), the dealer replaced it for around $250. Now a third coil is misfiring.

Ignition coil failure. Serveral problems with brake system and alignment/suspension. Have replace 2 coils so far, it was better for a while. Nissan needs to recall the ignition coils several problems.

I have a 1999 nissan maxima of which i am the original owner. The check engine light has been going on and off intermittently for the last year. I've taken the car to a number of service providers including a dealership and been told that the codes generated are not conclusive but, due to a known defect, the recommendation has been that i replace all of the ignition coils at a cost of nearly $1500. Seems to me if its a "known defect" that the manufacturer should be responsible for fixing this problem i understand it to be very wide spread.

Mil light illuminated.knock and spark failure trouble codes.erratic idle and power surge at or about 2000 rpm.in some cases the idle has been erratic enough for the engine to stall.the problem is not consistent and is temperature dependent.cold mornings (less than 50 degrees f) create the most problems.sudden loss of power on acceleration has proven dangerous.replaced ignition coil packs, six per car.

At about 30,000 my 1999 maxima gle started to misfire randomly.i was told by a dealer that there was no test that could isolate a bad ignition coil and that all six coils would have to be replaced at a cost of about $900.i did nothing for a while, but when the problem became worse i contacted my local merchant tire dealer and asked if they could replace the coils with new coils bought be me from an auto parts dealer.merchant tire agreed to make the replacement for $130.i purchased replacement coils from brightauto.com for a total cost of $364.63.the replacement coils are identified by nissan at nissanhelp.com as 22448-31u11, rh coil (#89057915) and 22448-31u16, lh coil (#89057914).i have had no problem since the replacement.

1999 nissan maxima ignition coil failure.engine check light and other lights came on. Coils are ~$100@this is a very common problem with these cars and a recall should be issued. It has instead become a cash cow for nissan dealers at `$1200 cost for each car repaired.

Ignition coil failure, defect and replacement.

Consumer statesvehilce failed to start because the computer chip in vehicle had de programmed.contacted dealer. Reprogram chip, problem reaccured.

I need to replace the following for my 99 nissan maxima so far:-(1) 2 oxygen sensors.(2) 1 engine control module(3) 6 ignition coils and 1 condensernow, the traction control system is not working. My maxima has only 52,000 miles. All these repairs right after 36,000 miles. Nissan should recall all these.however, i know nhtsa won't recall it because there is no injuries. Thank you very much.

Dt*: the contact stated the check engine light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership when the light illuminated. The dealership was not able to duplicate the problem; however, they did reset the check engine light. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer, and they suggested changing the ignition switch.

I have 1999 nissan maxima and it started giving problem with the ignition coil when it had only 50000 miles and the mechanics were not able to find which coilwas having the problem, and finally askedme to change all the six coils for around $1000.00. They also told me this is seen in many maxima's and infinity i30.

Ignition switch intermittently works.dealer has had vehicle indealer's shop for repairs 5 times. Consumer is filling for lemon law.

Consumer cannot start vehicle with key, the key will not turn ignition switch, consumer stated this was original key received with vehicle.consumer contacted dealer, and dealer had to recode key.

Ignition system immobilized when using proper coded nissan keys. Keys recoded, problem still occurs later. Nissan/factory rep knows max se have aproblem, but don't know why. I have a car that i never know when it won't start and must be towed in!!

This comment is regarding the ignition coil problem on the 1999 nissan maxima. My 1999 maxima has about 71,000 miles on it. Recently the "check engine soon" light came on. We took it to a nissan dealership service department. They ran a diagnostic test ($93) and said it's giving multiple misfire readings. They recommended replacing all six ignition coils. Total cost about $1000 including the parts and the labor. From websites, i found that this same problem happened on several maximas. People complain this a lot.

I have a potentially deadly problem with my 133,000-mile, 1999 nissan maxima.it might be related to the crank sensor on newer maxima,a steering column lock,a faulty ignition switch, faulty clutch depression switch, and the anti-theft kill switch, perhaps even a random ground.the problemwas conceivably catastrophic.upon entering my car using the remote, occasionally the car won't respond, and must be unlocked manually.in these instances, neither the dome lights nor the headlights shine.when the ignition key is rotated to the start position, as the clutch is being depressed, sometimes the gauge lights appear and then quickly fade and disappear; the car just doesn't crank.a faint, diminishing telltale buzzing sound can be heard.what's worse, this can happen spontaneously while driving, in which case the car's steering wheel locks and the brakes become inoperable.i have had this happen on three occasions, twice while driving in a mall parking lot (february and march ''07) and the other time (just last week) while turning into my neighbor's driveway, to take out her oak tree.the ignition crank sensor must slip into an inoperable mode during driving or while attempting to start the car, or the anti-theft switch somehow interferes with starting, operation or driving.maybe the master ignition coil is failing (but that doesn't explain the headlight and dome light problems).the clutch switch may not engage when its pedal is being depressed.sometimes, i can restart the car after an incident in which it was parked for a while.my battery is brand new, and there don't seem to be any shorts as far as i can tell.but nothing electrically works (not even the radio) when i have to unlock the car manually.i am very concerned about driving the car beyond my neighborhood.i might have to become a hermit, or worse, a college professor.any ideas?the car is in excellent shape otherwise and has all service records.

My 1999 nissan maxima will display service engine soon light and cannot be reset. I have replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs plus the air temp sensor. This code p1320 is always on and there seems to be many other nissan owners with this problem.

I bought this car in oct 1998. After my 60,000 mile service at the dealer (rte. 22 nissan, hillside, nj) in dec 2003, i noticed that the engine stuttered when i put the gear in reverse. The rpm meter oscillated between 0 and 1000 continuously before stabilizing. I told the dealer about this and during my regular service, the dealer inspected and told me that there was an idling problem and that he would try to do something about it. The car appeared to be fine for the next few days but then started stuttering again while taking a reverse. This problem used to happen only occassionally and and so i could live with it. Meanwhile i moved over to california, and it was also time for my next service (66,000). I asked the dealer (magnussen nissan, fremont, ca) to have diagnose the problem since it had stopped once or twice before at a traffic light and after being $118 poorer, i was told that the engine wiring harness needs to be replaced at a cost of $2,700 and that one in 50 nissan cars had this problem. The unfortunate part of the diagnosis was that the vehicle was returned in a worse condition than before. Now the check engine light was always lit up and the vehicle started stopping whenever the car came to a halt (stop signs, turns and traffic lights) and on some occassions narrowly escaping someone from rear-ending my car at stop signs. My car is now in a non-drivable state for the fear of it stalling anytime on the roads and getting hit by another vehicle. I contacted nissan consumer affairs and finally got to speak to a supervisor and was told that since my car was outside of the warranty period (3 yrs/36,000), they could not assist me with fixing the car. The real problem with the quality of the part that nissan has provided my car with. The wiring harness is not a moving part and is not something that anybody has access to and its not acceptable to have a $2,800 service pending after 5 yrs of purchase for a non-moving part.

The wiring in the head lights, had to be repeatedly changed due to melting.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

The contact owns a 1999 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the crank shaft position sensor, the knock sensor and the coils needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to another mechanic, who diagnosed that the knock sensor, solenoid control and the crank shaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000. Ma 08/13/15 updated 10/25/2017

The contact owns a 1999 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph the vehicle stalled. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal momentarily before stalling again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that two oxygen sensors failed. The fuel pump and filters were replaced, but the failure continued. The mechanic examined the vehicle again and informed the contact that either the engine was not getting enough fuel or the computer system was faulty. Upon examining the vehicle further, the mechanic noticed that a lot of water was being stored within the engine compartments due to a clogged hose. The mechanic repaired the hose and drained the water from the engine. The failure had not recurred since. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 182,000. The vin was unavailable.

I have a 1999 nissan maxima and have had the check engine light on. Checked the code and came back with cylinder 1 misfire. Dealer wanted $1,000 to "try and fix the problem". I don't have that kind of money. As i was getting on the freeway lost most power out of the car and couldn't speed up to avoid an accident. Fortunately nobody was hurt however if the dealer would have fixed their faulty part i am 100% positive there would not have been an accident.

Radiator is leaking. A/c is not working at all. Timing belt is about to go out.

While drivingengine light illuminated.once it came on it stayed on. They replaced the crank sensor twice.however, consumer received a tsb regarding ignitiion coil. The service bullietin had already been out 11 months prior.

1999 nissan maxima.service engine soon light displayed at approximately 140k miles.computer diagnostics indicated replacement of knock sensor.replaced by independent nissan mechanic.light reappeared 1 week later.mechanic checked electrical harness and found it to be okay.due to known issues with maxima ignition coils all 6 were replaced by same independent nissan mechanic.service engine light came on while driving away from mechanic.diagnostics was vague, general message.took vehicle to nissan dealership.dealer indicated that using after market coils was the problem but could not promise that using official nissan parts would resolve the problem.contacted nissan national office, but the corporate office refuses to take ownership of the problem.the customer representative indicated there was a known issue with interference with the coils but nissan would not replace the coils.replacing parts and diagnostics from 3 mechanics in addition to the nissan dealership cost over $2000.00.at present, the service engine light remains on with the vague code and nissan has no idea of how to resolve the problem.

My 1999 nissan maxima will display service engine soon light and cannot be reset. I have replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs plus the air temp sensor. This code p1320 is always on and there seems to be many other nissan owners with this problem.

Garage-kept since new 1999 nissan maxima has developed severe rust/body rot in the "radiator support member" which also attaches front engine mount points. This damage was caught during an oil change when the protective plastic shield was removed - which exposed the degree of danger. Inattentive owners could miss this entirely and the engine could literally rip from the car over severe bumps! be sure to check under your radiator!

I purchased a 1999 nissan maxima gle 4 door and the "service engine soon" light has been on. I took the car to a local auto parts store and had a "cold pull" performed and was informed that the spark plug on cylinder 5 was "triggering" the knock sensor resulting in the "service engine soon" light to be on. I went on the internet for more info about the knock sensor and the spark plugs for this car and seen more comments from other owners with the same issue for the same car. Comments stating that they have replaced the spark plugs and the coils and it was only a temporary fix for the recurring issue. This is the first car i have owned and the previous owner of the car ensured that the maintenance of the car was up-to-date. For this car to be ten years old it is in excellent condition, (kbb value $4500), aside from the spark plug and knock sensor issue. Will there be a recall to service the thousands of 1999 nissan maxima's with this issue? i can't afford to pay anywhere from $800 - $1,000 to have all of the coils replaced as well as the spark plugs, only for it to be a temporary resolution to the recurring issue. I am on a fixed income (ss) and after paying for medical expenses, car insurance, living costs, i cannot afford to pay for a temporary resolution. Please recall the 1999 nissan maxima's, this is a common issue with this year and model car.

Need 6 engine coils on 1999 nissan maxima.

Car still has check engine light on after replacing ignition coils and knock sensor.

The check engine light illuminated. Please provide additional information.

The contact owns a 1999 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the ignition coils failed on the vehicle. The failure caused the check engine light to illuminate and the vehicle to lose power. The dealer inspected but could not find anything wrong. A different mechanic stated that three of the six engine coils failed. The failure mileage was 143,500 and the current mileage was 160,000.

I have a 1999 nissan maxima with the check engine light on. Took it to the dealer and they told me that all 3 o2 sensors were bad, and they could be replaced for approximately $700. A week later check engine light is back on, and now they are telling me that it is the #3 cylinder misfiring, and they recommend replacing all 6 ignition coils for approximately $1200. I understand that there have been many complaints about the ignition coils, and really do not have the money to pay them again for something that i feel should be replaced by them anyway.

Check engine kept coming on. Machines kept telling us it was cylinder 2 misfire. We replaced fuel filter, sparkplugs, sparkplug coil with no results. Went to dealer, they put car on machine. They had trouble finding problem. They had to search by hand, with no results. They told me it was an elec. Problemthat was intermittent. Light went out without fixing anything. Has not come back again yet.

Radiator is leaking. A/c is not working at all. Timing belt is about to go out.

Radiator is leaking. A/c is not working at all. Timing belt is about to go out.

Car began idling very rough when stopped, almost to the point of shaking back and forth. When attempting to accelerate, car seemed like it had almost no power.same thing happened when climbing hills, to the point where car would almost stop and put driver in danger of being struck from behind by traffic in the same lane. Had to stop driving car and bring to dealer.

Check engine light first came on 4 month ago. Changed o2 sensor. A month later it came on again. Another o2 sensor. 2 weeks ago it came back again. This time it is a bad ignition coil. The car has only 44k. They should have a recall.

The engine sensor light continue to stay on. The dealer stated thatthe engine coils had failed. Please provide additional information.*nlm

I had to replace one coil on my 99 maximaearlier this year.this past friday i had to replace the other 5.from my research on the internet, this is a frequent problem, yet no recall to date. *la

1999 nissan maxima, ignition coil failure and service engine soon light on. Car looses pickup, rough idling and knocking.

With my 1999 nissan maxima se v6, egr valve related issues were detected and engine light started to come up soon after the ignition. According to nissan dealer, oxygen sensors and egr valves work is need that would cost $1800 or more. At that time the car mileage was around 80,000. I could not afford to fix that. But later one of the rod in the engine broken, fire started under the engine while i was driving at 70 m/h on the highway. My family was in a great danger and we were lucky to survive with the help of police and fire engine when someone called 911. There has been another complain about egr value on nhtsa web site by another nissan maxima owner.

When braking engine will make noises. It caused a vehicle crash. Cause unknown.l dealer notified.

While driving and and making any stop or turn, vehicle would stall/cut off, causing consumer to be in the middle of intersectionsin a vehicle that won't start.

The first complaint is with my car pulling to the left since i got it.i brought it back to the dealer at least three times for this but it still does it.the guy told me that it was because the roads in new jersey are angled so thats what caused it and did nothing about it.the second complaint i also brought back all the times with the pulling of my car .the guy said it was because it was new and it will go away, but about nine months later it is still there but not as foul as before.

Check engine light egr.the egr valve on my 1999 has been replaced multiple time and the light keeps coming on after few thousand miles.this plus the coil issue is wide spread and there is nothing anybody has done about this.

I had this 1999 nissan maxima since year 2000. The following expenses i incur was replacing 6 ignition coils at the nissan dealer costing over $700.00 where they advise only one coil was causing the problem. Recently after taking my car infor diagnostic because the service engine light came on, the check and replaced the egr valve three time(cost over $1100.00 for the first replacement), replaced the starter, fuel filter.now the same light is on right now. No one seem to know if this is a manufacture defect (yes , i believe) or what is the problems with missed reading test results. What's next replace the car? need help before i done replace this car or someone gets inquire because of dealer, manufacturer and technicians don't know the resolution.

-the contact drove his 1999 nissan maxima se (130000) to the inspection station.the inspector stated that the contact did not pass inspection due to egr system and knocking sensor failure.the vehicles failure mileage was 125000 and the current mileage is 130000.

Oxygen sensors needed to be replaced. The gas mileage for the vehicle is very poor.

I have had numerous problems with the engine misfiring due to the coil packs that sit on the cylinders.i have replaced several coils and that was a short term fix.now i am having the same problems with the engine lurching during idle and when trying to accelerate.i have taken it into the shop and they replaces 4 coils but the car still jerks when idling and right after acceleration.

After filling gas to the full tank, car was parked inside the garage. Soon garage smelled like a gas spill/leak. Looked around and under the car for leakage. No visible sign of leak. Had to move the car outside the garage to avoid filling the garage with gasoline smell and fumes and avoid any possible hazards to house and human. Next day, took it to the nearest garage for inspection. Mechanics checked it out and mentioned that gas filler pipe (metal pipe between gas filling hole to gas tank)is rusted and has holes from where the gas liquid escaped and smelled. If i had left the car in garage for overnight, which could have filled up garage with gasoline fumes and could have created hazards condition. Also, having hole in the filler pipeline is also a potential hazards since gas spilling can happen any time without warning. This can also create fire hazards situation if there is any spark near by. Spilling would not be visible unless hole gets bigger and mass amount of gas rushes out. In any case, gas leak is dangerous to environment and humans. Nissan should provide the fix at no charge to customers.

I was accelerating from a red light going up hill. When i reached the top of the hill and let off the petal, the car continued to pick up speed. The brake petal was stiff and unresponsive. There was nothing under the petal. As i was quickly approaching another red light with stopped traffic. I put the car in neutral and rounded the yield into a deserted parking lot doing about 80mph. The car sounded like it was going to blow up. I turned the car off and remove the keys. The car continued to travel when turned off with the brake unresponsive. I put the car in park and put the key in the ignition. I clicked it over and the car continued its behavior. I quickly turned the car off. Removed the key and called a tow truck. I informed him of the problem and asked him not to start the car. When my mechanic received the car he informed me that the stud that holds the harness away from the throttle components had broken off and lodged down in there holding the accelerator in an open position. Because the car believed the accelerator was being depressed, rendered the brake inactive. I was terrified and did not want to drive it anymore. I thought about selling, ' the car that almost killed me ', but we own 2 of them. My 1999 and my husband's 2000. I have the luxury edition and it has been a very good car. Just feel i have been tainted by the experience even after my mechanic removed the other stud and called it a freak accident. Obviously i'm still thinking about it. And yes i did look at our 2000 maxima to see if it may have the same problem but those components are not in the same position. Just mine.

Several times, as i have been driving down the road, the power locks (on every door) in my car suddenly unlock.atother times, only the front two doors unlock.immediately before this occurs, i can hear the power controls on each door make an electrical noise as if an electrical malfunction is occurring.all four of my power windows also intermittently malfunction and refuse to roll down (while at other times they work perfectly).the lock defect creates a dangerous situation as my children who are riding in the can then exit the car.

While driving at 55 mph vehicle stalled on the highway.this problem occurred three times since last year.a dealer examined the vehicle and found that a new transmission was needed.the alternator and ignition coil were replace prior to the dealer determining that the problem was the transmission.

The recalls & technical service bulletins web site lists tsb # ntb9811a for a "throttle shock" "hesitation" in the automatic transmission.both nissan motor co and the local dealer have no record of the problem.help me confirm the tsb number and determine why nissan motor co does not have any reference to the problem.thanks,jl.

Lurching at highway speed. Braking did not slow the car! terrifying!used emergency brake to slow enough to pull over and take next exit.could not stop at stop sign of exit ramp.pulled into gas station and changed auto transmission gear. Stopped with a violent lurch and thud. Turned engine off. Aaa was able to start car and load onto tow ramp. Taken to nissan dealership. They found "no codes." driving and inspection did not find cause. When brought it in, said it would cost $98.00 to check it over. After nissan engineer from national did investigation, would not return our calls.. Dealer said cause not found- !car fine to drive." car was there a week.no charge.no explanation.when asked for trade-in value, got very low quote.felt like a cover-up.

Consumer states burning type smell from engine or clutch area and vehicle lacks power.dealer removed transmission and found clutch disc worn out.clutch assy. Replaced, consumer has had to have the clutch replaced for the the third time because bushing that holds the clutch between the flywheel and the transmission which was installed was not the right part for the model of the transmission in consumers vehicle, but was installed anyway, because of inproper fitting it caused the clutch to wear prematurely and has caused some damage to the transmission.

The clutch assembly emits an intermittent groaning sound when the clutch is engaged in 1st and reverse gears.i have visited two nissan dealerships over 14 times and had the clutch assembly replaced twice and they cannot resolve the problem.fenco parts (http://www.fencoparts.com/bulletin_9924.htm) has issued a tsb about possible transmission failure due to this problem.nissan has refused to acknowledge any problem.

The contact owns a 1999 nissan maxima. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger side seat belts would not retract. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the retractor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

Excessive rusting to the radiator support component.while regular oil change time, a mechanics noticed the excessive rusting of a body part that supports the radiator. This is vital part that supports the radiator. It could be dangerous if radiator drops while driving on any highway at stated speed. Nissan maxima has multiple rusting issue with body for this generation of car. Problem with radiator support is one of the dangerous since it can kill or hurt many if radiator falls due to rusted support.

When making a right hand turn consumer will inadvertently hit the trunk release push button on driver's sidedoor, causing the trunk to open . Manufacutrer claims itcannot not be fixed.

I am a nissan technician, and i have become concerned with the amountof fourth generation (1995-1999) maximas i have seen with substantial radiator support rust. This of course creates a dangerous situation with the crossmember, which attaches to the support to form the lower engine cradle. In many instances, the rust gets so bad the crossmember drops and causes a very real danger for drivers, and others -- if the crossmember were to get caught on the edge of a nasty pothole as the car goes over, an accident is guaranteed. The easy way to fix it is to bring these cars back, and just section in a piece of good steel, tap it, and bolt the crossmember back up, and undercoat the repaired area. This issue can be rectified, and many cars can be saved from the scrap heap, for this problem is enough to render an otherwise trouble-free car unfit for the road. I hope this issue is considered, and acted upon by nhtsa & nissan, since it occurs only in conditions of high salt\calcium winter roads. I am not aware of this issue occurring outside of what is termed the rust belt - so its not as if an exorbitant number of cars would require repairs.

Whenvehicle reaches 35 mph and up it begins to weave all over the road, and problemcould not be controlled. Delaer has been contacted.

Ignition coil failure. Serveral problems with brake system and alignment/suspension. Have replace 2 coils so far, it was better for a while. Nissan needs to recall the ignition coils several problems.

There was a knocking noise coming from the front coil springs. Please provide more information.

While driving over a bumpy road, the consumer heard a loud noise coming from the rear end.please provide more information.

On may 2000 we noticed that one of the front tires had a tare in the sidewall area. We went to a good year dealer and they indicated that they do not know what caused the tare. Two month later while washing the car we found two more tires torn the same way the previous tire was torn. The nissan dealer service department says that this is a good year problem. The good year dealer service people are saying they do not know what causes this tare. We could have here a similar problem with a poorley manufactered tire which is a danger to my life and many other american. I have a video of the tare on one of the three tires and if you would like i can submit to you. This problem is very dangerous because if not seen early it can cause blowout and bad accidents. I am having problems with my 1999 nissan maxima.my service engine soon light came on about a year ago and regardless of what i do to fix it, it just comes back on.i have had diagnostic tests ran on it and it has come up as something different everytime i fix the problem it gives me.so far i have fixed two ignition coil packs, a noc sensor and a couple other things related to emissions.i have spent around $800 to fix these things and i am now am getting a code that says there is an ignition misfire.the shop that i am taking it to has told me that it's a problem that they can not figure out and they have researched it and been told that nissan can't figure it out either.

I'm very disappointed in my girlfriend's purchase of a 99 maxima gle. The car runs very rough and almost stalls everytime you brake. After researching this i have found 1000's of complaints about this issue. Apparently the coil packs go bad frequently. This is a problem for stopping and acceleration into oncoming traffic. Very, very dangerous. There really should be some action by nissan to correct this problem.asap anything info you have on this problem would be helpful to us. Thank you

When applying brakes to come to a stop, vehicle will surge forward. Engine revs and rpm's go up all the way. Only way to stop vehicle is to press on brakes very hard and throw vehicle in neutral. Then, engine stops revving and rpm's go down.this happens only at slow speeds when trying to come to a stop. When applying brakes to come to a stop, vehicle will surge forward. Engine revs and rpm's go up all the way. Only way to stop vehicle is to press on brakes very hard and throw vehicle in neutral.
