I had bought a car from a dealership in san diego and it was defective from day one.the dealership sells all cars as is so i took it back to him the next day to have him repair it.we went back and forth for about one year and he always said he never found a problem with it but yet, he seemed to always be doing some kind of repair.finally, the engine blew and i had it towed back to him.he had it for one month and said he can't fix it.he said he would sell me another one and take $1000 off the other one if i come up with $700 to put down on another.i did, he said this car had a rebuilt transmission.this car's rpm's keep on going up to about 5000-6000 until it finally kicks into gear.now he says there is nothing wrong with this one too.what can i do?

Variable timing control spring assembly replaced.

Lifter noise at times on idle is very loud.

Cam shaft sprocket failed causing excessive noise in the engine compartment. Mjs

Engine camshaft bracket which holds timing chain in place failed, causing timing chain to fall out. May cause damages to t vehicle, and cause anaccident.nissan has made an improved brackets after 1994.please provide further information.

Engine shuts of intermittently and without warning for brief moments (5-10 sec.) sometimes in isolated single events, sometimes in clusters. Engine completely loses power then returns. Dashboard and radio continue to work as if it is not electrical. Feels like a fuel delivery problem. It's very scary when it happens on the freeway or when pulling into traffic! no codes show on computer diagnostics. Replaced fuel filter and computer. While searching the net i have found this to be a recurrent problem with this model. No known fixes.

Vehicle cut off while driving. Took in for repairs,. Took dealer approximately 4months to remedy the problem and to find that the timing chain broke.repairs made at consumer's expense..

Noisy engine, resulting from a variable timing control repair.

-the contact spent over $3000.00 onthe 1992 nissan maxima. The vehicle hada varietyof failuresfor the past year. The contacttook the car to be repaired ,but it has not been repaired properly. On 1/2/07 the repair shop said that the vehicle could not be repaired, and that he needed to get a tow truck and come back to the repair shop to pick up the vehicle.the repair shop put a new engine in the vehicle, and it felt as if the engine has been in the car over 10 years now.

When i went to have my vtc springs replaced the man that worked at the dealership i had the work done at, he said it was a very common problem which maid me mad because of the fact of i paid $1000.00 to have a part fixed which i think they should have paid for if it was a common thing. I am aservice manager in a shop and have several maximas come in with that problem. I would really like to know what has to be done to have that part recalled andhave my money returned. If problem is not fixed, it will break timing chain and bend valves. My other complaint is about the window regulator. I will tellyou i know of tons of people that has had that break on them. It is a plastic piece like a pully for the window that breaks and the window will drop at any time. One of myassoc. Window has broke when it fell. That part cost $110 to replace, the bad thing about itanother plastic piece. That is one part that must really be recalled with how many times it happens.

Speaker fire. Factory speakers.i have seen this reported on your site before but was unable to locate the previous posting. This is a very serious hazard and could cause the vehicle to catch fire.

All 4speakers went bad, smelled like they were overheating and could catch on fire.the owner disconnected the speakers.there was a recall for the speaker in 1992 q45, but not for the maxima although it has the same problem.nissan says that since the car is out of warranty there is nothing they can do.*ml

The contact owns a 1992 nissan maxima. The contact stated that whileadding gasoline to the fuel tank he smelled fuel and noticed it leaking from underneath the fuel tank. The dealer was informed about the failure and stated that the vent holes in the fuel tank were cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 188419. The current mileage was 188700.

When accelerating i smell strong fuel fumes.it concerns me and i would like to find out how to get it fixed.

No summary listed.

A strong odor of fuel enters the vehicle when the engine is running.it was found that raw fuel was contacting the hot engine creating a very dangerous situation for all in the vehicle.normal prentative maintenance procedures by me could not see the problem with the fuel rail and fuel line.due to the design of the vehicle parts of the engine had to be removed to affect removal and replacement of the defective parts.the manufacture was contacted to seek relief (refund) for the cost ($383.22).nissan has refused to cover any potion of the cost even though a similiar situation by chrysler was paid for by that company.however, there is a bigger problem still remaining, nissan's design with this vehicle component is faulty from my point of view.since it can not be inspected, repairs can not be affected until a dangerous situation exists (raw fuel leaking onto a hot engine).my desire is to have nissan affect repairs to other vehicle with the same/similar design.

Vehicle vibrate uncontrolably, replace two fuel injectors, dealer said if injectors where not change, there could be a vehicle fire.tt

About 5 months ago, i had to fix a problem with a leak in my "filler pipe" (gas).i had discovered the problem while filling my gas tank at a local station.i had previously read nhtsa campaign id number : 95v244000 and therefore brought my car in to nissan dealer with the print out of the recall to get the situation fixed.the dealership had my car 2 days and still had not started any work on it... Apparently they contacted nissanwho claimed their was no recall on my car.i contacted nissan myself both via email and phone and got the same answer from them... That no recall existed. So i brought my car to my regular repair shop and had the issue fixed.i see the recall is still posted on this website.do you think i should try and contest this repair with nissan... Or could i even continue to insist there is a recall in existence on my 1992 nissan maxima? i also wanted to point out another problem the dealership & nissan had with my car... They tell me that my vin is invalid which your site did to, when i tried to submit it.you site claims that "digit" #9 was invalid.even the dealership read my vin the same way i do : [xxx],although, i had to submit a zero for an "o" to get the vin to go through on this website.digit #9 definitely looks like an "o" on my vin.thank you, -[xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My 1992 maxima is leaking fuel near the filler tube.the dealer says the fuel filler tube is corroded and the entire assembly needs replacement.research shows that the maxima years 89-94 have a recall for the corrosion of the fuel filler tube, but only for certain states (nc is not included).nissan refuses to pay because they say my vin is not in their database for the recall, but this is a serious safety issue and i do not see how the registered state of the car affects the recall status.the car has been driven with weather similar to the states listed on the recall.

It was possible for a mixture of mud and salt to get trapped between the fuel filler tube and wheel housing. The trapped mud and salt can result in corrosion of the fuel filler tube and the wheel housing. The vehicle experienced the same defect, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.recall # 95 v 244 000

I have read where many nissan maxima owners have had problems with leaks in the fuel filler tube due to rust and corrosion (between '88 and'94). I have also seen that nissan is very selective in deciding which cars are covered based on the vin. I also see that many have asked for help from a mr. Larry long at the nhtsa and that's he's been very helpful. I am facing a similar situation now. I know there is a leak in my filler tube, and nissan says my 1992 nissan maxima gxe does not have any outstanding recalls. I bought the car used, and they did not tell me if it had been fixed or not. Is it possible to get this message to mr. Larry long or whomever is working on situations like this? a leak in the fuel filler tube is potentially very serious -- and expensive to fix. Thanks in advance for your help and consideration.

When idling/ driving a strong gas smell fills the car.it is almost unbearable. I have a toddler and this problem worries me greatly.

When gas tank is a quarter or less full, gas fumes are pumped into garage until it reeks of fumes.it smells strong enough to warrent caution with ignition sources and is surely an environmental hazard.

The contact owns a 1992 nissan maxima. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel spewed from the filler neck. The vehicle was not repaired. My daughter over-corrected and rolled the car 4 times, which she was ejected on the first roll, because the driver side seatbelt failed to hold her in.she has marks on her neck showing where the seatbelt burned her before failing to hold her inside the car. After several months & delays to correct the corrosion problem described in ntb96-034, nissan north america finally agreed to correct & repair the left side wheel housing and component listed in the recall. Although, the corrosion is also appearring in advances stages on the right side of the vehicle in the same area on the opposite side. The corrosion has advanced to the point that there are holes on both sides of the vehicle not only on the left side, but also the right side. The seat belt anchor on both sides are attached directly to the area of advanced corrosion. In the event of a crash the seat belt anchor(s) most likely would tear-out from the corroded area and passengers on either side of the vehicle may be injured / killed. The corrosion damage is identical to the corrosion problem detailed in nissan's campaign id no. 95v-244, or ntb96-034 & ntb96-034a.

Car was taken upon move to the netherlands.nissan usa and nissan netherlands give me run-around on this strange problem.i always believed that seats must withstand big forces in case of a accident, not fail while cruising! at this point the car is still at a dealer to be looked at by several institutions in the netherlands.my goal is to make this problem aware to all maxima drivers and solve the problem, especially due to fact that we drive more that 1 nissan! i do not want money compensation.

About march 1995 the spoiler began to loosen.on 3/24/98 tiny's body shop to repair the loose spoiler.they told me they could not fix it because there was nothing to screw the spoiler into.on 5/30/2000i got an appraisal from viking oldsmobile in rochester mn (507-288-1811) for repair of the spoiler.they told me they had already replaced half a dozen spoilers on this same make of car.they gave me a preliminary estimate of $541.74 but stated that it may be more if rust was involved.they sent the estimate and report to nissan.the nissan company refused to pay for the new spoilelr.i believe this is a recall situation.my spoiler is now completely loose on both ends.only the middle connection is intact.it could cause a major accident and even death if this should fly off on the road.i know most other nissan maximas must be having this same problem and nissan should stand behind it.i do not intend to trade the car in on a new one.i wish to drive it longer and then give it to my son.i am afraid of an accident as things stand now.the car is beginning to rust at the spoiler connections and i am afraid of a serious accident.there are no other cars with spoilers that i can see that have this problem.0101

Front struts/springs failed, causing vehicle to bounce up and down from side to side/excessive lean on turns and feeling of incipient loss of control.

Bought the vehicle and noticed severe top end noise. Prior owner complained several time since 1996 about noise. Various mechanics indicate to me that "they all do this". Found out there are two tsb's on the problem indicating vtc failure. On the bbs for this car the problem is discussed daily and seems to affect almost all maxima se's with ve30de engines. The nissan mechanic says he fixes this all the time- they are gouging customers for a faulty part with an extremly high failure rate. I think they should do it at n/c otherwise i'm not buying anymore nissans. I don't know if it's safe to drive around with the engine sounding like it's falling apart.

The first tire "right front" had a blow out in june on hwy i65 in birmingham alabama. I replaced this tire. The second failure was one week later. 30 miles south of columbia s.c. Going 70 mph, i had a right rear tire sepration. It did over $1000 damage to our automobile. One week later upon returning from myrtle beach, s.c. Again about 10 miles north of columbia s.c. I heard a weird noise coming from the left rear tire. I drove to a pep boys auto shop on a sunday and had the tire check. I was informed that it had a bubble in the center at several spots and was beginning to seprate. I then had that tire and the remaining tire replaced. I had to replace all 4 tires with a two week period in june 2000. My original tire dealer had sold the business so the new owner did not have records on the type of tires that was on my car. All i know was that brigstone was written on the sides. I was in south carolina when i had to replace 3 of the 4 tires so i could not save the tires as proof. I do have records of having to replace the tires and the dates. I did not know about any problems with brigstone/firestone tires and since the tires were about 2.5 years old, i didn't think much of it. I am the second owner of a 1992 nissan maxima purchased in november of 1996.three months after the purchase i took the car to my local nissan dealership (somersworth nissan, somersworth, nh) because my wipers were not working correctly.the car still had 3 months left on the 5 year 60 thousand mile warranty.the service mgr. Told me my vtc sprockets were defective and in need of replacement.she contacted nissan who in-turn said they would cover the cost of the repair.i was told by the service department that the repair is normaly about $1500.00 dollars.less than 2 years later the part nissan replaced is defective again.nissan refuses to cover the cost.i am slowly finding out that vtc sprockets are a continual problem for several 1992 maxima owners.why should i continue to pay $1500.00 every two years when it is obvious that this is a poor engine design problem that nissan should not pass on to their customers.as far as i know i can expect to pay $1500.00 every 2 years.another nissan dealership said the vtc sprockets are defective and will continualy go bad.consumers should not have to pay.nissan needs to take responsibility for the products it makes and sells!
