Went to replace bulb in assembly. Found plastic brackets inside melted. Tried to replace with used part, but every assembly i found had the same problem. I had smelled something burning a number of times recently, but had never identified the problem. This could be a serious fire hazard, since its clear all vehicles will have this problem.**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768334
Initial action taken when the dash no longer displayed numbers, went straight to the dealer.i informed the dealer that i could no longer see the speed at which i was traveling, how much fuel was in the tank, or the correct mileage on the vehicle.also the cruise control would not operate because of this.they informed me that it would be a costly repair, and to not fix it because the dash has not been fixed correctly.recently i went back to the dealer and they tried to clean the components on the dash, hoping to fix the problem.at this time, they informed me that they no longer replace the dashes. They refer the customer to an electronic specialist.after calling and visiting numerous specialists, i found no luck in anyone servicing my problem.i then proceeded to write nissan a letter explaining my situation and asking for a solution.i received a post card stating nissan needed more information that i already gave to them.i then received a call from a representative of nissan telling me my solution was to switch to an analog dash and that they could get a quote from the dealer at that time.when i called back nissan i was informed that the vehicle cannot accept the analog dash and that i need to replace it with a $2,000.00 digital dash.however, the dealer told me that they would not suggest replacing the digital dash because it will not work in a matter of time, and then i am out $2,000.00.when i asked the dealer what others have done, he replied "nothing".apparently all other customers are driving around vehicles without knowledge of their speed, an obvious safety concern.from what i understand the problem exists in colder climates due to the moisture.the digital dash was only placed in certain vehicles from 1989-90, and is no longer being produced for obvious reasons.please assist me in any way possible.i am willing to do whatever it takes.also, i have documentation of my calls and copies of all receipts and letters.thank you.*a

We noticed the 3rd brake light (high mounted stop light) was burned out on this vehicle.upon inspection, the heat from the 2 lamps inside the unit had melted the housing holding the bulbs as well as the red lens.the melting was serious enough to deform the underside of the unit.i attempted to locate a replacement unit at an auto wrecking yard, and found that the only unit available out of all of the compatible cars had the same problem as my car.i am concerned that this is evidence of a widespread failure of this necessary safety item and possible fire hazard.
The rear brake light bulb is so hot that it melted the plastic cover and could cause a passenger compartment fire. Please describe.
Rear brake lights do not light up on a regular basis when the brake pad is applied. The connectors that touch the light bulbs are very sensitive. The slightest movement causes the connection between the bulb and connetor to fail. I have noticed this problem with numerous maximas on the road. This problem exists with the rear lights as well (not only when braking). The rear 3rd brake light assembly has corroded and does not permit the bulb to be installed. This problem existed since i purchased the car with 92,000 miles on the odometer from a private party. Attemps to have it repaired by a local mechanic are in vein because the problem reoccurs within a couple days after being 'repaired'. Seems as if only half of the toal connectors are in everyday working condition. The other half turn on and on sporadically. This makes it seem as if i have some 'tail lights out'. This in turn gives police officers a reason to continually pull me over and let me know about the lighting situation. In addition, the non-working connectors give the car a poor appearance. Lastly, this can be very dangerous because the rear lighting may not be sufficient in certain situations.nlm
I smell burned when i applied the brake. I isolated to the rear center brake lamp was not illuminated. Because the sockets were the metal can in the lamp socket moves or separates from the plastic socket housing. It is very close to the recall 96v253004.

The fuel and brake lines on my nissan maxima are corroded and due to the brake line failure i had a loss of brake power. I was able to stop and call a tow truck, thankfully. Also, the fuel lines are corroded and started to leak which could have caused my car to explode very easily. Vehicle fuel injection system is inoperative, causing poor acceleration while driving.poor inectors also causing poor gas mileage, 3 sets of injectors were replaced in a 6 year period, design problem.
Fuel injectors have not been firing within the specified range as assessed by my mechanic as well as an authorized nisssandealer/ mechanic.the car idles rough and shimmies while the brake is applied at a stop.sometimes there is a hesitation when i depress the accelerator.the problem seems to be getting worse over time, recently the emissions warning light on the dashboard has come on and cannot be reset. I am hesitant to pay for repair work because of the expense (and i've been told replacing the bad injectors only may hasten the others going bad).for a car with such low mileage that has had regular tune-ups and maintenance work this problem is unacceptable.my friend also has a 1990 maxima and has experienced similar problems and my mechanic sees this problem on a regular basis.

Driving 35 mph when vheicle started to jerk & shutter; finally turned it off; would not start properly. Took to dealer & informed fuel injectors going bad. Had them all replaced.
I've had a number of problems with this car and have put a lot of money and time into it.but my mechanic warned me after having my tune-up done that the fuel injectors are leaking.he suggested i contact nissan to verify whether or not they had recalled my vehicle model for this defect.according to a nissan consumer affairs associate, the 1990 maxima does not fall under the recall that was issued for the previous years maxima.but i have searched the nhtsa site and found that i am not the only person to have experienced this problem with my maxima.

The vehicle's gas filler tube corroded.a recall (95v244000) was issued for the vehicle, however the dealer refused to repair it at no cost.please provide any additional information.*nlm
Due to significant corrosion of the fuel filler tube resulted in fuel leaks, which in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire. In addition, the left rear seat belt retractor is mounted to the wheel housing and in the event of significant corrosion, and the mounting could fail in a vehicle crash. I have already contacted nissan and dealer in this regard; the nissan is not giving response from last one month to the dealer. I have a newborn baby, i am worried of crash or fire, please help me to solve this asap. There is recall available on these items already but nisaan is bot relacing them.
