The airbags did not deploy when the truck was involved in a front end crash at 45 mph.

My truck was hit on front right side and spun my truck around. My whole front end fell off, including my head lights and radiator support. Both radiators were crushed. The front tire wall along with the radiators were pushed into my engine. With all this damage, my air bags never deployed. Both officers on site advised me to look into this matter.

Nhtsa letter responding to congressman ken calvert regarding consumer who wrote concerning the non-deployment of air bags during a crash involving a 2001 nissan supercharger truck, consumers husband died on the scene and believes he may have survived if the air bags would have deployed, nhtsa is requesting more information for further investigation.

This vehicle was involved in a mva where it hit the broadside of a minivan (t-boned) that ran a red light through an intersection.the truck was going in excess of 20mph at the time, when i contacted the mini-van no airbag was deployed.i suffered hits to my head, whiplash related damages, damage to my shoulder and right leg.the impact caused significant front end damage to the truck, the engine and body were damaged to the point where i was not able to drive the truck and engine was inoperative.no airbag deployment.

Airbag warning light on the dash blinked on and off.private garage and dealership identified faulty part as a clock spring in the steering column.was told part is no longer available.manufacturer did not make enough parts for replacement.not available new or used.i asked the dealer to contact the manufacturer to see if they have a fix for the problem.no response.so vehicle no longer has working airbags.is the manufacturer not responsible to back up the safety of their vehicle airbags?

While traveling about 55mph on highway, driver's side seat belt will not retract, and airbag light will appear on dashbord, dealership is aware ofproblem.consumer mentions that a crash occurred where the vehicle was totalled and there was an injury, however does not give any specific details of this accident.

While driving 40 mph on wet pavement consumer lost control of vehicle and hit a brick wall. Air bags deployed and caught on fire, burning consumer.also, cut consumer on arm,and from chin to center of neck. Airbags deployed so hardtheyknocked consumer's head out of window. Contacted dealer and had vehicle repaired.

While driving 60 mph vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual airbags did not deploy, and driver sustained severe back injuries.

While traveling between 40 and 50 mph vehicle hit a telephone pole. Both frontal air bags failed to deploy.driver sustained neck and chest injuriesvehicle has not been examined to determine cause for failure.consumer lists two failures, however only gives information for the accident that occurred on 06-sep-2001.

Problems w/ passenger side airbag lock mech. Trouble turning the key to off position. Now it is locked in off position and can not be turned back on. Posted this issue on a nissan forum and found it to be a common problem! i called a factory and they said the only fix was to take out lock core and have it re-keyed. Not a good thing if you ask me!

Consumer stated that itwas verbally implied that car seats were applicable and useable in rear cab of vehicle. Owner's manuel boldly states don't use car seats.existing symbol in rear of cab shows car seat usage.also, when talking to dealership they stated child seats can be used in vehicle.consumer called nissan ,manufacturer, and they stated child seats can't be used in rear of vehicle because it will not fit.

On 3-31-2003 my 2001 nissan frontier caught fire after being parked for 4-5 hours.the state fire marshall suspects the fire was electrical in origin.the cab and bed were burned.the front end sustained no damage.

Connection for abs(g sensor). Light will come on and bypass some of the brake components. Has been fixed before and it recurs . Can feel difference in braking.

Last night our 2001 nissan frontier caught fire and was destroyed.the fire marshal said it was an electrical fire that started under the steering column.the truck was parked at around 6:15 pm and this fire was discovered at around 11:15 pm and seemed that it had started around 20 minutes before.

My car wouldn't start. Battery was fine..passengers had recently said that they noticed a fuel smell, but i can't smell (a physical handicap of mine).; called aaa- it was then that we noticed that fuel was leaking out of the top of the gas tank, the fuel pump wire that supplies power to the fuel pump was broken. Car had to be towed to a local garage. Called nissan dealer and he said 'your car is old, just replace the fuel tank. But, the design of the gas tank is such that there is a 'gully' where water gets trapped on the design of the top of the fuel tank. Nissan refuses to admit that this is a design flaw that is causing the top of the fuel tanks to corrode; and this is indeed a safety issue! as a mechanical engineer who specializes in metals, it is definitely a poor design; i have owned and worked on cars my entire life, and have never seen a fuel tank corrode through.all of the local mechanics/garages in my area tell me "this is a common problem in nissan frontiers- we fix them all of the time."

Check engine light came on ,took the car to nissan dealer, indicated that the computer must be reprogramed per service bulletin board ntb02-092. Whay customer has to pay what nissan knows that have problem dealer charged me $135.

While driving engine check light appeared on the dashboard until the vehicle was turned off. Consumer took vehicle todealer for analysis , andmechanic noticed that the computer needed replacing due to a worn out part.

I own a 2001 nissan frontier crew cab and both front door windows have become difficult to open and close. The passenger side window dropped while driving. I was told the window regulators are at fault can you inform me if there is a recall on the window regulators for my vehicle ?*tw

At times, i lose all of my gauges and sometimes when that happens, i also lose all power.this creates a dangerous situation when traveling down a major highway.the other day i was on u. S. 25 south of greenville, sc, when it happened and i drove between 45 and 50 miles with no gauges.i had a doctors appointment in augusta, ga that i had waited several months to get so i had to go on.i have been told by a person that works at the nissan dealership that this is common with the 2001 nissan frontier which is what i have.in checking, i am told that there is no recall for this which doesn't make sense.

While driving at 55-60 mph the dashboard will go dead and odm go blank.the engine will drop to 30-35 mph, if a hot day here in tx. The car will totally die.took to nissan repair-will have to replace complete wiring harness & all sensors $1,500. Or more...warranty does not cover.took to another mechanic- determined it is the wiring cluster from the dash that feeds the computer.because the computer is not receiving mph, the governor takes over and shuts the car down. Nissan has not released these parts for sale to the public. Mechanic still trying to get response from nissan.nissan will not recall.this happens almost everyday we drive this car.can't afford another car, will have to find away to fix, but nissan is not corporation.

Consumer states that after driving vehicle for several hours during the day it was parked at 10 pm, by 1:30 am consumer was awakened by the sound of fire fighters extinguishing his vehicle. The fire department stated that arson was not the cause of the fire.

The fuse panel of this new truck burst into flames on 12-17-01 , while it was under factory and additional manufaturer waranty and as of 1-22-01 they have yet to correct the problem.

While driving, felt a "shudder" .. Check engine light came on, gear shift indicator went off. Once the key was turned off, vehicle would not start. Towed home. Started checking fuses. Check fluids, realized transmission fluid was in radiator and radiator fluid was in transmission. Vehicle will no longer drive in drive, only in reverse. Known issue with nissan.

Several web sites i have read indicate a recurring problem with engine/exhaust accumulation of water via the leakage in water lines and/or faulty manufacturing heads/engine system.my vehicle accumulated water in one of the piston (4-5), and perhaps warped the alum heads or maybe blown gasket.if repairedwill this problem persist, and what recourse do i have with either manufacture or used car dealer (bought in san antonio, texas).

While doing some personal maintenance on the vehicle the consumer noticed that there was oil leaking from the oil pan. Vehicle was taken to three dealers to fix the problem, but the problemstill persists.one dealer replaced the rear main seal for the power train. The seal has been replaced three times and is leaking again.

Consumer feels the vehicle is consuming too much oil.consumer states' vehicle is burning 1 quart per 1000 miles.cause is unknown.took to nissan and they said it was normal.please provide any further information. Ts

Consumernoticed for 3 1/2 yearscheck engine light illuminated. Technician determine dproblem was due to gas cap.

Car with 55,000 overheats & shut down on freeway.was towed to repair shop, 3 weeks out of warranty, and repaired at my expense.two days after receiving it back from the repair shop, car overheats again.cracked manifold was also discovered.

Ref case:ntb03-048amy car has the same issue except my truck is 2001.

Leaking exhaust manifold causing noise and fumes to enter cab of truck and makingme sick. Cost to repair almost $800.

I bought the 2001 frontier brand new with only 10 or 20 miles on it. Since then i've had it in the shop 8 times for the a/c (thats right 8 times). Each time the service people assure me it's fixed this time. The a/c blows hotter than the heater does and thats ridiculous. When i go there the service manager ( pat burke ) treats me like a criminal instead of a customer. As of today the truck was fixed once and for all, according to them, but i've heard that 7 times before. Very concerned and tired!!! nv.

Dt*: the contact stated on four separate occasions the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership after each of the first three incidents. On every visit to the dealership the gas cap was replaced. When the light illuminated the fourth time two months ago the dealer was contacted and suggested diagnostic testing. There were no warning signals indicating a problem except for the check engine light.

Consumer states that after the vehicle had been park and no warning the engine caught on fire under the hood causing damage to the vehicle. Dealer notified.mr

I own a nissan frontier se v-6 3.3 4x4, all is original as purchased, at approximately 75,000 miles, this winter i have developeda loud ticking noise upon cold start up, after about 10 minutes or until warmed up it subsides and returns upon cold start up.

While driving at state speed limit, consumer was involved in a situation with an aggressive driver.consumer sped up to 95 mph without warning and engine began to stall, causing consumer to lose control of vehicle. Was able to controlvehicle after slowing down. Dealer was notified, and mechanic stated there was a speed limit installed in engine without notifying consumer.

Engine check light keeps coming on. Vehicle sputters and jerks occasionally. Had repaired, but problem still exists.

Any time the suv reaches speeds greater than 95 mph it begins jumping dangerously.

This nissan pickup has had a random stall problem since new. It has been to the dealer numerous times (at least four, perhaps five?) but is simply returned each time with the comment ' could not duplicate the problem'. I have pursued through nissan's 'customer hotline' but this was unsuccessful. I understand the difficulty in diagnosing a random problem but i don't really feel as if much effort has been put forth by the dealership either. This problem is dangerous as it invariably decides to show up when i am in congested traffic and i find myself stalled in the middle of an intersection unable to move.it will sometimes restart on the first attempt but again may require numerous tries to get restarted. Most recently, i left with the dealership again on may 31, 2002, and when i contacted them yesterday, june 3, 2002, i received the same old report, 'cannot duplicate the problem'.

2/25/05 i purchased a used nissan froniter sc '01.one week later the "service engine" light appeared.a nissan technician diagnosed the problem as the oxygen sensors not providing feedback due to condensation in the wire harnesses.the tech. Told me that there was a bulletin he found stating that the wire harnesses in that year frontier were found to be faulty and replaced with updated harnesses, which i would have to buy along with four sensors, to fix my problem.the cost in parts was $965 and labor is estimated at $880.nissan will not even pay for partial parts even though they admit it is faulty product.i have contacted them to complain with the appropriate department and now they will not return my calls.

I bought a 2001 nissan frontier 27,000 miles on it soon afterwards service engine soon light came on, dealer replaced catalytic converter, since then light constantly comes on now have 128,000 miles on truck this has been an ongoing problem from the get go. The catalytic convertor was changed around 50,000 miles would there be any warranty on the new unit?

The vehicles gas nozzle does not shut pump off when gas gets to a certain point.consumer states as a result gas gets poured over driver and vehicle.please provide any further information.ph

Both exhaust manifolds cracked and had to be replaced.

Consumer smelledfumes coming into the vehicle. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer, and the right manifold exhaust was defective.the warranty company stated, not covered under warranty. Manufacturer stated no complaints received.

Exhaust manifold has cracked due to manifold is made of one type of metal, and engine block is another type.these two metals heat/cool at different rates causing undue stress on manifold.as a result the manifold has cracked, allowing toxic fumes to enter vehicle passenger compartment.

During high winds in the riverside, californiaarea the bed liner of my 2001 nissanfrontier was sucked from the bed of the truck. Inside of the bed at the time were personal items that were also ejected with the bed liner. This truck was purchased brand new only 9 months earlier and the bed liner was factory installed and was included in the truck accessory package.the bed liner was destroyed along with the personal items. Although there is no confirmation it appears there could be one fatality and damage to other vehicles including my own although minor, include, scratches.

A/c fan switch gone bad. Replaced part. I know a couple of people with the same type of truck and similar year that have had the same problem.

Engine stopped while on highway. Unable to restart.on checking vehicle, discovered water in fuel tank. After removing fuel tank from vehicle, noticed, access to fuel tank from top severely corroded. The fuel tank is located directly below space between cab of truck and bed.this allows water to enter through the space. The access to the tank has a raised ring and a groove that runs around the ring, which allows water to collect.the whole ring is corroded and their is holes in the top of the tank.i feel this is a poorly designed tank and poor location of tank.my son and my friend has the same make and model and the both experienced the same problem. My son junked his truck and my friend used j-weld to make makeshift repairs.i live in a community with a population of 2000 residence, which makes me believe that this cannot be a isolated incident. Thank you

I was never told about a recall on my 2001 nissan frontier pickup truck relating to the fuel pump. It caused my fuel pump to fail and my engine shut down while i was driving. I want to know why i can't take any action?

My 2001 nissan frontier has had five recalls. The recall that i am unsatisfied with is related to the fuel system: the nov. 2002 recall of the fuel storage tank and the may 2004 recall of the fuel pump. These repairs are pending and have been since june 30, 2008. The fuel tankis unavailable and has been for 108 days, as of today oct. 15. It has been inoperable and has been at the dealer since june 30.original issue began on june 13, 2008. The vehicle struggled to turn over, emitted heavy dark exhaust, the smell of gasoline was present, the service-engine light went on and i experienced a loss of power while getting it to the fitzgerald auto mall dealer in chambersburg pa. The required work was completed on june 18. The repair work included replacing the knock sensor (code p0325) and related gaskets, replacing the vent control valve and charcoal canister (code p1441). There was no mention of any recall work regarding the fuel system. I drove the truck for six days.on june 29the exact same symptoms appeared. I got the truck home (barely) and called the service manager. On june 30, the diagnosis came back. Same problem, different diagnosis. The codes were pulled andp1441 came up again, but this time the required part to repair the vehicle is a new fuel storage tank-- a part that was recalled. My repairs in june were in excess of $1200.i also needed a loaner vehicle at $35 a day . I am out $$1,636.42 and have made 7 bi-weekly car payments at $144 for a truck i can't drive. Theregional specialist for nissan has promised to take care of the payment and reimbursement for the repairs, but has not delivered yet. Nissan won't reimburse until the part is in the vehicle. My case number with nissan is 6262993.the part is "due" at the dealer the last week of october, however a recall repair should not take 4 months. My complaint is not with the chambersburg dealer but with nissan north america.

I purchased my nissan frontier from a nissan dealer "as is" which was fine til the first time i filled it up. The smell of gas made me pull over right away. Couldn't find or see a leak but sure could smell it. Shortly after check engine light goes on. Had a mechanic look at it to find fuel is leaking from the top of the fuel tank. I see i'm not the only person to complain about it. Hopefully someone will investigate before someone gets hurt. I'm on s.s.d. I can not afford this problem that should be recalled. Tried to locate a new tank for the truck. Can't find one. I can't see putting a recycled defect in. Anyone with the same problem needs to call the nhtsa so we can get the recall started. Now nissan changed the tank and added access panel behind the back seat on newer models. So i don't fill my truck and it still smells of gas but not as bad. Hopefully help is around the corner.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 04v230000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump). The vehicle had since stalled while driving on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle needed a new fuel pump. The contact stated that the stalling failure was not present prior to the recall repairs. The failure mileage was 121,900 and current mileage was 122,000.

1.my 2001 nissan frontier se's engine suddenly died with no warning.it would not start and i verified that there was in fact gas in the tank. I expected it to be the fuel pump that failed.i had the vehicle towed at my expense to a garage of my choice.2.i decided to check online to see what recalls might be due on the vehicle.there were a few recalls, but recall id # 5971 which is a recall of the fuel sending unit was the one that seemed to be an exact description of the problem that i had(engine can stop running without warning resulting in a crash).i called the nissan's head office to see if the recall had been completed and was told that there were no open recalls on my vehicle and that all recalls on my vin # had been taken care of.so knowing this i believed that the sending unit was not the problem.3. My mechanic removed and replaced the fuel pump and the vehicle still would not run.i mentioned the recall to him and he then carefully checked the sending unit for corrosion and discovered that there was an electrical short on the one connectors on top of the unit that he found due to the plastic on under the connector being cracked.this was definitely the problem, and i was told that the sending unit looked to be the original.the mechanic then purchased an oem fuel sending unit from nissan and my truck was fixed.the issue with this is that the part number on the new pump that was put into my vehicle is the same exact number as the one that was originally installed in the vehicle.this is unacceptable because the company put a new sending unit into the vehicle to comply with a recall knowing that the same existing problem would return.i feel like i am driving a ticking time bomb!it was not fun having my vehicle die on the highway without warning and it is very unsafe.i ended up spending $486.97 out of my own pocket to fix the same part that was recalled only to have another part with the same part number and future problem.

The contact owns 2001 nissan frontier. The contact stated that she was stopped at a traffic light and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that they needed to replace the fuel sending unit. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacture was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 04v230000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The failure mileage was 91,000 and the current mileare was 116,000.

When on the vent setting hot air flows continuously into the truck even though the temperature is set on the coldest setting.temperature has been measured at 118f when the outside temperature was 70 f.after trips to two dealers and the replacement of the intake air vents the problem is still present.efforts to request that nissan north america correct this problem have met with statements of this is normal operation.this continuos introduction of heat into the interior seriously impacts passenger comfort and the operation of the ventilation system.

Approximately 2/3 of the perforated holes in the air intake cowl were not properly perforated open.as a result, the air conditioner must be operated to keep the vehicle cool during all but very cold outside conditions.this is costly at the least, but potentially dangerous if hazardous fumes ever got into the passenger cab.my first trip to the dealer got the response that "all frontiers are that way".a call to nissan no. America, referring to your complaint odi id: 897023 advised that all the perforations are not pierced as a design feature that varies between models".even if all the perforations were pierced, the total free area would only be 1.5 square inches which is not enough in my opinion o support adequate fresh air intake.even if all the perforations were elininated and just the small grids were left, the free area would be 12.98 square inches which is probably "just right" for the fan.all the frontiers and xterra have this type of cowl grill. It is a great money saving idea since an open mesh screen is used in some of nissan's models and that has the cost of the screen and the labor to place as an added cost.with a second trip to the dealer, a scratch awl was inserted in each grid at my insistance to at least open up the grids, but the plastic still covers the open areas.can nissan advise if their drain is capable of accepting small debris that could get through an open grid?

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier. The contact stated that there was corrosion in the fuel system. The fuel tank developed a crack in it which corroded the terminal strip. The failure caused the fuel system to stop working and the engine to shut off without any warnings. The dealer stated that the recall repair was previously repaired and that the contact has to pay for the repair. The contact is concerned that the parts used to repair the recall were defective. The failure mileage was 121,000.updated 01/12/10the fuel sender unit was replaced. Updated 01/15/10.

There has been an issue with my 2001 nissan frontier since it had 15,000 miles on it.i bought this vehicle new.the service engine soon light has been on more than it has been off, and i have smelled raw gas smell which has continued to get worse.dealerships have continually told my wife and myself that the gas cap was loose, or we needed a new gas cap and reset the service engine soon light.it didn't take very long before the light went back on again.it turns out there is a hole in the gas tank, not due to something hitting the tank but they are saying this is due to corrosion.i think it has been there the entire time i have owned the truck.the truck only has 85,000 miles and looks like brand new, it has been stored inside since i have owned it.i am the original owner.i have read on the internet other stories of similar issues with 2000, 2001, and 2002 nissan frontier models.i believe there is a defect in the gas tanks on those years of nissan frontiers.i am going to have the gas tank fixed, but i am going to request the old one to be saved.this is very dangerous and none of the dealers we took the truck to could find the problem.my garage smelled like a gas station when getting re-filled by a gas tanker.i am so surprised that the garage/house didn't explode.i have reported this to the consumer division of nissan and they do not seem too concerned with this issue. They will not even call all of the dealerships where i have reported this and attempted to have this issue with the gas tank fixed.i also have all the documentation on the service records for this issue.

While drivingcheck engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that fuel was leaking from underneath the vehicle, and the fuel tank needed to be replaced.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 55 mph, the flange was severely rusted, and caused gasoline to leak.prior to the incident, the check engine light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who determined the gasoline tank had to be changed.the gas tank had rusted. Updated 11/30/06.

Leak in gas tank.

I have a three year old(2001) nissan frontier xe quad cab.the gas tank has corroded through in this short period of time.although nissan has picked up the cost of the part, i was still responsible for the labor costs.i admire their willingness to pay for the part; however, a safety issue such as this might warrant an investigation and a possible recall.it seems as if a gas tank should be the most secure part on an automobile.the exposure to harmful fumes and possible explosion are serious safety concerns.to have a gas tank corrode in 39 months of use is inexcusable.although the car is no longer under the manufacturer's warranty, this is an issue of more global concern and should be a defect completely paid for by the manufacturer on all similar models. *la

Fuel sending unit replaced due to corrosion build up around fuel sending area.replaced by dealer several times, oem part proved defective each time. Finally received recall notice from nissan that corrosion build up was causing the fuel sending unit to fail in areas that use salt on the road. Today, 9/10/04 dealer had to replace fuel sending unit again(with recall approved fuel sending unit) and now tells me that the corrosion is so bad the fuel tank needs to be replaced. The vehicle is 3 years old and has only 56,000 miles. They told us that the tank may eventually leak fuel from the sending unit area that has corrosion.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier crew cab. The contact stated that after refueling, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic. The mechanic confirmed a fracture in the fuel tank, which would require replacement. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 105,000. ....updated 06/18/12 updated 06/22/12updated 7/19/12 updated 07/23/12.

When filling up the gas tank gas spitted back out.driverstatedit tookabout 15 minutes to fill the gas tank, andgas had to be put in very slowly.

I have had multiple unplanned service visits. My nissan frontier sc is 18 months old. The gas tank needed to be replaced due to improper internal geometry. This caused fuel to gush out of the tank after filling...certainly a safety hazard. The fuel level indication instrument showed incorrect fuel level and needed to be replaced.this is not necessarilya safety issue, but is still an issue, nonetheless. An abs sensor failed, which rendered the trucks abs system inoperable...also a crucial safety issue. I have had two front end allignments and have already replaced all four tires on the truck after only 33,000 miles. This could also potentially lead to unsafe travel. Last, but not least, the passenger side power window mechanism failed. All of these conditions were remedied by the dealer. But, after being notified of all of these issues with one of their new vehicles, nissan has only responded with a generic, "sorry."

Fuel overflows from filler neck at end of refueling procedure, when fueling with nozzle on "automatic" and at normal/full pressure.happens about 70% of the time.both dealer and manufacturer contacted, and are aware of similar complaints from others.only recommendation was "refuel at lower pressure".

The contact stated fuel spills from the filler inlet as the tank is being filled.as a consequence in the presence of an ignition source, fuel leakage could result in a fire. He contacted the manufacturer in reference to recall# 02v300000(fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). Upon contact a representative stated that because his vin number was excluded from the vin range, he was ineligible for a free remedy. As of current date the vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 73,200. The current mileage was unknown.

My 2001 nissan frontier has spilled fuel every time i fill up the tank since i purchased the truck.i am the original owner of the truck.i wondered why this had not been corrected by a recall so i searched the internet and found this web site. I found nhtsa campaign id number 02v300000 and to my surprise found that this problem had been noted and a recall had been issued.i contacted the dealer but he told me that based on the vehicle id number my truck did not qualify for this recall.i then called nissan directly to be told the same thing.the problem described in the recall is identical to what i am experiencing and it would appear that neither the dealer nor nissan is willing to do anything to remedy the problem.thanks, sean

When filling my 2001 nissan frontier crew cab sc with fuel, it consistently overflows.this has happened at different gas stations, so i know that it is a problem with the vehicle.every time i set the automatic pump on full flow, the shutoff is not in time to prevent gasoline from overflowing onto the side of the vehicle and on the ground.the intermediate setting also results in a fuel spill.the only way i have not had a fuel spill is to slow the pump's setting to the slowest level.i had the vehicle inspected at ed martin nissan in indianapolis, and they replaced the fuel tank assembly.this did not fix the problem and then i was told that nissan was reviewing the problem.i have contacted nissan but they have not provided any sort of meaningful response.

This vehicle was recalled for fuel tank overflow during refueling. The recall service was performed on my vehicle, but the fuel still splashes out. The recall work did not solve the problem.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier. While the vehicle was being refueled, fuel leaked from the filler neck. The dealer diagnosed that the part needed to repair the vehicle was no longer in production. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

Had problem keeping truck running service department did a tuneup on 10/02/15 and said it was fixed 7 days later truck stopped running again went back to truck service on 10/09/15 rechecked and said i had water in gas drained gas put in new gas ran good until it rained truck stopped running again went back to truck service on 11/30/15 did a smoke test on gas tank found top of gas tank rusted out around top said i need new gas tank my truck was kept in garage most of the time that i owned it, looked on computer and found nissan trucks between 2000 and 2005 or 2006 have bad gas tanks why do they not recall or replace gas tanks

On above approximate date i started to smell fuel coming out from my truck every time the tank was at full capacity. Since then engine light will never come off. I took for repair several times. Change oxygen sensor, gas cap, thermostat, carbon canister and solenoid. I contacted nissan but i was told that there were no recalls for my vehicle.

Fuel tank top rusted and water entered the fuel , truck stopped running and would not start truck service did tune up did not help after a $1,200 dollars they found the water in tank did not find the rusted tank untill the third time back, put a sealer on what they could reach and now i do not take my truck out in bad weather help!!!!

While driving 55 mph hood popped open to secondary latch.consumer pulled over, and noticed that the secondary latch and the frame had a hairline crack.

Tailgate support cable just broke no load on tailgate. Tailgate was down to save fuel. Cable broke in the middle appears to be rusted.(the wire).

Driving at highway speed of 65 mph lost power and vehicle coasted until it would operate in second gear (auto transmission).

Was driving in tennessee on highway 81.i found i was having trouble getting the speed upgoing to the top of the hills, the next day we found the transmissionwas a little low and got transmission fluid. Now we are having other problems. We brought it to nissan to have it tested, and they give us well we'll change the fluid and may be that will help. Or it could be this or that or something else. I'm afraid they are going to nickel and dime me to death.

The truck has been giving me too many problems the transmission has been giving me problems i took it to the dealer they didn't want to fix it they said it wasn't their problem that it was mine from the moment i took it out of the dealer.

Continual & intermittent very loud noise in area of clutch, throwout bearing and/or pilot bearing on startup. Only goes away after releasing clutch pedal.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Manual transmission bearings have worn out early.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier. The contact stated that the seat belt on the driver side locked up and would no longer retract. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 138,000.

Felt as though seatbelt was just behaving "different."looked at seatbelt anchor and found driver's side bolt was nearly completely unscrewed.took it immediately to dealer where it was found that both driver and passenger side anchor bolts were stripped!holes were re-bored and new bolts put in.this defect occured with no unusual strain on the belts.failure was just 2 months after purchasing new.

Cliponseat belt that keeps seat from retracting down in holder fell off.consumer is using a safety pinin place of the button clip.dealer has been tyring to order theseat belt from april to august. Dealer has no idea whenseat belt will be off back order. By lawwhole seat belt has to be ordered.dealer is unable to use any replacement pieces and part when it comes to a safety item. Please the vin# and mileage to form.

The front passenger seatbelt could not be pulled out for usage.it has been almost a month since notifying nissan and nissan has yet to contact me to state the arrival of the part--- nissan has mentioned that this part is on "back-order because there are 'many' other nissan vehicles out there that are requesting for the same defective part."nissan further stated that ordering the part "make take months."nissan is, therefore, aware of this seatbelt defect but has refused to offer their consumers a rental for their safety while they(nissan) 'locate' a replacement for the defective seatbelt.for the public's safety, please notify the public regarding this defect in the seatbelt and contact nissan to ask them to expedite the process of obtaining the part.thank you for your time and kind consideration.

Catch for front drivers seatbelt failed. Catch cracked and would not lock.

While traveling about 55mph on highway, driver's side seat belt will not retract, and airbag light will appear on dashbord, dealership is aware ofproblem.consumer mentions that a crash occurred where the vehicle was totalled and there was an injury, however does not give any specific details of this accident.

The passenger seat belt is locked in the stoded position and can not be used. This was not detected as i usually drive alone and the drivers belts work fine.

2001 nissan frontier xe abs failure. When stopping on semi wet level surface abs engaged followed by complete brake system failure. No brake warning lamp or abs warning lamp was on.could repeat this failure mode in nearby parking lot. Abs lamp came on after second failure. Now brakes work in non abs mode (can apply full braking pressure to the point of locking the wheels when abs warning lamp is on.)

Connection for abs(g sensor). Light will come on and bypass some of the brake components. Has been fixed before and it recurs . Can feel difference in braking.

Vehicle sometimes does not have the hydraulic pressure to stop the vehicle in a resonable amount of space and time.

The abs sensor was leaking fluid onto the axle, which caused the wheel to be non-responsive. Will be taking vehicle to dealership to have mechanic check out the leakage. The consumer was concerned for his safety. Please provide additional information.

Brake pedal goes to floor makes difficult stop.

Being a former mechanic and owning a 1995 nissan previously i am appalled at the performance of the braking system.numerous times when braking i can feel the pedal pulsate and the system only had minimal braking force although i applied extreme pressure to the pedal.i am certain there is a design flaw, for i would never had this accident in my 1995 nissan pick-up and i'm certain someone is going to lose their life.

Failure of the braking system caused brake pedal to drop half way to the floor (approximately level with gas pedal) and inability to slow or stop the vehicle.none of multiple attempts to apply the service brakes resulted in any braking effect and engine surge was detected in at least one braking attempt.driver resorted to emergency brake, but too late to avoid collision in intersection, two vehicles destroyed, four people where injured.*la

I bought a new 2001 pathfinder in july and i lease it just the beginning of this year out of nowhere the abs light came on and it came on and then turn off i took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnose and they told me it had an internal failure that the abs actuator was not good they told me that in the years of service they have not seen anything like this they did not know what cause it or what happened they told me that it would cost me almost 2,000.00 to fix and i decline because i felt it was a defect that the car had after communicating this information to nissan consumer affair they denied the repairs because my car has more than 36,000 miles.i feel they just want your money and this is a safety issue that i felt they should cover if the car was taken to a dealer and they could not even tell me what cause it i felt they should be responsible after all this is not a cheap vehicle and now i will never buy a nissan again.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier.while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed to completely stop when the brakes were applied.the contact could not estimate the length of time the vehicle took to stop.he stated that the abs warning indicator light illuminated.the road conditions were dry.the current and failure mileages were 107,800.

Consumer was driving about 40mph onhighway and anothermotorist collided with her onhighway.she appliedbrakes andvehicle didn't stop. Dealership was aware ofproblem.

I have a 2001 nissan frontier that the right inner pad is worn to the sensor.the disc pad is wearing at noticeable angle from leadingedge to trailingedge. The other pads are wearing normally.the truck also has a severe brake pull to the right. The pull is worse when hot.the car is undriveable at this time.the car will swith lanes when the brakes are applied.as an ase certified auto technician i believe the cause is the use of phenolic caliper pistons. Phenolic pistons are known to cause brake pulls, locked up brakes and uneven pad wear.

This is one of two 2001 frontiers i own. Both have had premature wear on the passenger side inside front brake pad. All other pads were fine on both trucks. It sems the pad bcomes lodged in the caliper and does not retract when the brake is released.

Check brake light came on and stayed on. Brake line corroded to the extent that brake fluid leaked out and emptied the master cylinder. Could only stop if the master cylinder was constantly refilled. Master cylinder would empty as soon as the brake pedal was pushed.

While driving at 4:30 am on july 9th, 2005, my wife experienced a momentary brake faluire while exiting a frewway ramp at anthem way in anthem, az wjile travelingabout 65 mph. The brakes restored themselves prior to a stoplight at the off-ramp of anthem way and i-17. I have experienced this on a few occaions, but thought it was just my imagination.i have not sought recourse from the dealer, even though the vehicle is under an extended warranty, as i realize that they have to reproduce the problem, which does not manifest itself that often.i believe having been in fleet mangement for 25+ years, that it may be a faulty brake valve. Also i am a member of nafa.there was not any accident.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel would not turn properly and was stiff. When turning the steering wheel, it would not return back. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the tie rod and ball joints, but the failure continued. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 132,000.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier. The contact stated that a clunking noise could be heard coming from the steering column. The contact also expressed serious concern over the possibility of the steering column cracking, increasing the risk of a crash. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 10v554000 (steering:column) that may be related to the failure. The vehicle was not yet taken in to have the failure diagnosed. The failure mileage was 120,000.

In 2001 nissan frontier pick-ups without steering wheel adjustments, the directional signals can not be seen by the driver since the steering wheel is too thick and the placement of the directional lights are quite poor. One has to push the seat back and tilt the seat to see the directional lights through the steering wheel. As a result the front of the truck can't be seen and can easily lead to a collision due to midjudging the vehicle in front of the truck. *la

Dt: caller was having steering problems. After pulling to the side of the road consumer discovered that a bolt had come off. The steering shaft became misaligned causing loss of vehicle control. This occurred today while driving to work. The vehicle is now parked on the side of the road. The vehicle owner is getting a bolt to make repairs before moving vehicle.

Dt: the truck was taken by the owner to the dealership for inspection.the dealer found out that the left outer tie rod end had to replaced. The dealer advised that they would have to do a repair of the whole linkage system. Dealer advised they are aware of the problem but a recall has not been issued yet. So many repairs now will be at the cost of the owner.the consumer has no idea there was a problem with the tie rod end until the inspection. No indication as to why or how the tie rod became loose. The tie rod end is located on the front left side of the vehicle. The problem is not repaired yet. No warning lights on in the vehicle. No other problems with vehicle.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with hinges under the hood. Manufacturer or dealer were not contacted at the time of this call.

On june 12th,2002, the left-side tailgate of my 2001 frontier truck spontaneously detached itself from the body of the vehicle.and, for the sake of my safety and the vehicles around me, i could not immediately pull over to stop the vehicle.hence, while i drove, this "dangling" tailgate continually banged thebumper and various areas of the vehicle, causing paint damage, indentations, and a grave safety hazard for myself and the surrounding vehicles/people.thankfully, the tailgate did not completely fly off of the vehicle to cause further injury and/or fatality to myself nor the surrounding vehicles/people.to this date (two months after informing the manufacturer), my vehicle has not been repaired and no one from nissan has contacted me regarding resolving and remedying this defect and grave safety hazard.

Consumer stated that while driving and without warning alignment was causing the tires to wear. The alignment has been changed three times. Dealer notified.

Front tires wear very fast on outside edges even after alignments and numerous rotations.outside of tires bald after only 20k miles.apparently not covered under warranty.

Front sway bar risers were replaced in 2004, at a cost to me of $95, mileage was just over warranty at 38,000. The technician informed me that these risers were a weak link in the car. Now, it is 2007, and the link is loose again. The car is at the dealer, and i am without thecar for two days. The frontier has 88,000 miles on it. . if the risers fail again and i do not catch it, there could be problems with the front end of the vehicle not handling , leading to an accident.

When driving over bumps and turning, heard a knocking sound. I inspected the vehicle and found out that the sway bar was disconnected.

The contact owns a 2001 nissan frontier.while driving 25 mph, the bearing failed in the rear axle.the tire and the axle separated from the vehicle while it was being driven 25 mph.the brake line was severed and there was no way to stop the vehicle.the vehicle eventually stopped on its own.the repair shop stated that the bearing failed.the contact filed complaint number 6270525 with nissan.the current and failure mileages were 152,500.update 10/01/08 *cw rust was found on the wheel bearings and on the axle. Consumer had to refill the air in front driver's side tire more than usual. The tire became flat without warning.

Engine check light keeps coming on. Vehicle sputters and jerks occasionally. Had repaired, but problem still exists.

The moment i turn the switch on, the vehicle speeds up without control, not even the brakes responding.i stopped it by turning switch off.

Brake pedal and gas pedal are too close together. Consumer applied brake pedal and hit the gas pedal instead, almost causing an accident.*nlm.

I own a 2001 nissan frontier crew cab and both front door windows have become difficult to open and close. The passenger side window dropped while driving. I was told the window regulators are at fault can you inform me if there is a recall on the window regulators for my vehicle ?*tw

When on the vent setting the system continuously introduces hot air into the truck.i have measured the temperature of this air at 118f when the outside temperature was 70 f.after trips to two dealers and the replacement of the intake air vents that caused the problem above, the problem is no better.

Consumer turned onvent and warm air was coming out.dealer checked, and foundcowl vent, beneathwindshield wipers, was plugged with plastic.plastic blockedfresh air from coming insidevehicle. Instead it filled vehicle with warm air.nissan said it waas normal, and at thiswasworking to resolve the problem.

I own '01 nissan xterra. In '03 i had to replace driver's side power window regulator. Feb. '05 remaining 3 regulators failed, all at the same time. One of the windows was in "down position" during heavy snow storm.it created signifficant distraction to a driver.currently waiting for nissan to do what's right and recal.

For about the past year, the driver's electric window has been malfunctioning.when opening the window, there is not a problem, however, closing the window, it goes up very slowly and you have to tap on the button to get it to close completely.i took the vehicle into service today and was informed that my vehicle did not meet the "service campaign" because the serial number of my vehicle was not in the range of the problem and because my vehicle has 73k miles and the service campaign was only to 60k miles.no correction action was taken because my vehicle's serial number was not in the service campaign range.i have to pay out of pocket if i want this repaired.

The consumer turned on the defroster of the 2001 nissan frontier for about 20 min to remove fog from the windshield.when the consumer returned to the vehicle he saw a one foot crack in the windshield. **nar*** the crack emanated from the lower left side of the windshield in a straight line that had become convex in the center. *sc

Incorrect wheel base, no apparent physical damage, problem has been since purchase. It cause brakes to grab/chatter, steering to lock on braking and extreme pulling in either direction. In addition to uneven tire wear. Nearly hit a telephone pole head-on when steering locked on braking and on another occasion nearly avoided hitting a car as braking system doesn't stop vehicle correctly (not abs related-brakes grab/release/grab unevenly allowing vehicle to continue forward)
