My nissan 2000 se 4x4 extended cab has around 27000 miles. I purchased it new from carmax on 6/9/2000. About six months after purchasing the truck i experienced a failure of the instrument panel. I notified my nissan dealer but couldn't duplicate the problem. I've learned to live with the problem but it now occurs just about every time i drive. It turns off for about 10 minutes and thencomes on again. My lights or other safety equipment are not affected by this failure. During the failure i can't tell how fast i'm driving.

There was a short in the fuse box that caused a fire that burned up the battery, the hoses and most of the electrical system.prior to the fire the vehicle was stalling during turns.this occurred for about 10 minutes of driving while the vehicle was being driven to a garage.the fire started as the truck turned into the garage parking lot so it was put out quickly. Icontacted nissan, and they said they would not investigate or look at the vehicle unless i paid to have it towed to a nissan dealer and paid the nissan dealer to have a mechanic with no c&o training look at the vehicle.i called nissan back and they said that was there final decisionand no one from nissan could do anything else.

The contact owned a 2000 nissan frontier crew cab. The contact stated that the electrical board located behind the instrument panel failed and caused the headlight to fail beyond repair. The dealer was notified of the failure who advised that they were unable to make repair because the manufacturer did not supply parts after the vehicle was over ten years. The contact traded the vehicle in for a newer vehicle. The vin was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Cracked manifold.

Oil filter and oil change done at home. Purchased a bosch oil filter from autozone in ponchatuola, la. The dealer is saying the filter caused the engine damage, therefore it is not covered under the warranty. Autozone wants the filter back for inspection but has not involved bosch. If i let the filter go through the mail to autozone and they loose it i am without any evidence to justify any claim. I still feel my vehicle should be repaired by the dealer under warranty. I even purchased an extended warranty on this vehicle. The autozone insurance person i spoke with states the engine had to have too much pressure to cause the oil filter failure if it actually did fail. I'm left without a vehicle, a very large note, and too much stress to count.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan frontier.while driving 35mph, the engine began knocking while driving. The service engine light kept coming on.the dealer stated that the failure was due to the gas cap being rusted.the contact paid $600 for the repairs. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 78,000.the vehicle is being diagnosed.the engine size, vin and purchase date are unavailable.

Engine lifters not getting oil for 2-4 seconds on start up, usually after sitting unused for over 24 hrs. One oil gets to lifters, engine quiets down. Oil filter too small??

Engine makes tapping noise for a few seconds when first started up, dealer says this is normal, i don't think so.

My complaint is in regards to "mfg bulletin number: ntb01038", which is very specific in identifying the "right hand exhaust manifold cracking".if this technical bulletin is so specific, would that imply that there is a know defect with the manifold, and if so, shouldn't there be a recall for all owners so the defective manifold can be replaced at the manufacture's expense?!?!?if a number of owners have had the same part malfunction to the point where the manufacturer had to publish a "detailed technical bulletin", i would think that this malfunction is much more common and should be addressed as a recall.

Right side exhaust manifold cracked and the left side is now cracked. I have owned many nissan's before and this problem is a design flaw.

This is the fourthyear in a row that i had to refill the air conditioning a/con thetruck, i talked to manymechanics, and they all told me that nissan trucks have the same problem, that one of the a/c hoses were defected, and that the freeon , a/c gas leakedfrom there.

Truck hard to start at times, was told it had fuel issue.

I was driving back from school on march 10th 2011. While entering a highway onramp my car engine stopped. I was traveling 40 mph and did not get any warning about the stall, my steering did not have any power and brakes were difficult to operate. When i called nissan (1-800-nissan1) about my incident and ask if there were any recalls made to my vehicle i was told that there was no recall. I then took my truck to a repair shop where it was diagnose with a faulty pump and burned electrical wires. This repair cost me over $900. I checked www.nhtsa.gov website for any recalls, learned that there was arecall for faulty fuel sending unit as per recall campaign i.d. # / nhtsa #: r0401 & r0402 / 04v-230 document rcrit-04v230-8435. This recall was made back in january 23, 2009. I was never notified about this, i wish i was and so i would not have to go through all the costly repairs.when i called nissan back i was told that they will research my incident and get back to me the next day. I am still waiting.

2000 nissan frontier fuel sending unit set off service engine light. This was a recall which was repaired on 6 sept 2007 fuel tank and sending unit were replaced. Vehicle had 62698 miles then. Now fuel sending unit set off service engine light againat 73444 miles. Gas tank corroded around sending unit just 3 years and 11000 miles later. Fuel tank and sending unit were replaced again, at my expense. How was this a fixed recall when nissanstill has the same problem and will not pay for it?

The vehicle leaked fuel. Fuel sending unit failed due to a defect.

On march 07, 2007 my 2000 nissan frontier began intermittently to loseengine power.no recognizable events lead up to the power failure, it came on suddenly and without any warning. The first incident occurred at a major highway intersection, and nearly caused vehicle crash.on march 08, 2007, i had my vehicle towed to my primary mechanic for inspection. On march 09, 2007, my primary ase certified mechanic diagnosed the problem as being a faulty fuel tank sending unit.he also advised me of nissan's voluntary recall campaign for this specific problem, and suggested that i return my vehicle to them to have the recall service completed.on march 22, 2007, i had my vehicle towed to sandy sansing nissan of pensacola, fl, to have the recall service completed.the details of this service as noted on my service invoice were as follows: fuel sending unit non-salt recall; checked connection, no corrosion found, sprayed protective coating on connectors. On march 23, 2007, i returned to the dealership to pick up my vehicle, as i had been advised that the service was completed.after driving less than four miles from the dealership, the engine in my vehicle began to fail, just as it had when the problem was diagnosed as being a faulty fuel sending unit.i phoned sandy sansing nissan's service department to asvise them that the problem still existed.their response was that the recall did not require them to replace the faulty fuel sending unit since my vehicle was identified as not being located in a " salt state".as a result of my vehicle's engine failure, again i had to have it towed home.i don't understand the process that was used to determine that my vehicle was not eligible for being located in asalt state. I have two homes and one of them is in tennessee, which is a salt state", and i travel there quite frequently.i am unable to find a local independant mechanic to replace the fuel sending unit because of nissan's recall.ak

Vechile is 2000 nissian frontier crew cab se. 10-04 got recall notice on fuel system gasoline fuel pump. Took truck in was told no crack or corrosion so was told they put a sealent on it. Procedure per recall i have. Recall # is 04v230000. On 6-15 truck stop working in major intersection was almost hit from behind. Truck towed to nissian 6-1605 and was told it was this part that was cracked and had lots of corrosion on it, but i would have to pay for it since recall was for sealent only. Not acceptable. Was told that nebraska is not a salt state so the sealent would work. What the heck do these people think we use for the ice and snow we have here? sorry. People at my dealership were the best. They really tried to go to bat for me but their hands are tied as well. They were told it was a company policy. I am really upset. I called the 800 # for nissian and got no where. Hell they would not give me a a street addr for me to send a certified letter to and they would not tell me who the ceo was. I got some women on the phone who just gave me the run around and said she would open a file. What ever that means. I believe these people are responsible for this part. They new it was bad in the begining.it says so on their website. Nebraska a no salt state. Where do these people think nebraska is, the tropics? sorry. I wish to issue a formal complaint. I do not want anyone else to have to go through this nor if their engine stops i would hate for a fatlity to take place. I would think they would want to prevent that my self. I am a resonalbe person with a great sense of humor but my humor and my patientce is running very low. I hope to hear from someone on your end as soon as possible. Thank you laural.

Upon having nissan dealer troubleshoot reason for "service engine soon" light being on at 26,800 miles on my 2000 nissan frontier, i was told that the emissions system evap canister had "exploded" and charcoal pellets contaminated the system, requiring total replacement of the charcoal canister and evap valve to the tune of $597.00.being that item is part of emissions system and requires zero maintenance by the consumer, i was shocked to learn that the item was not covered under the emissions warranty.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan frontier. The contact stated that after exiting the vehicle, he smelled a strong gasoline fuel odor. The smell dissipated after a short period of time but later returned. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the fuel tank had corrosion and was causing gasoline vapors to escape the tank. As a result, the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 94,000. Updated 3/28/13

The fuel gage would read between 1/2 and 1/4 tank. The truck would not pick up fuel in the tank thus the moter would shut off. This occured four time on major highways, ( 58 in calf, 15 in las vegas, 40 in arizona). The truck was in the dealer four times, upon the fifth occurance thepotential for loss of life, due to a class 3 accident, is too great. The running out of gas occured in trafic and with tractor trailers behind us. I'm just glad they locked up there brakes and we were not hit and killed. I have a 4 page report if you would like a copy. The general manger of united got a copy,( don forman), the regional mgr (helena)has been informed. Nothing from her or the 1 800 nomber from nissan. Truck started to buck and hesitate during acceleration. Check engine light came on. Took truck to nissan dealer and was informed the fuel take sending was bad. Searched on line for recalls and found a recall for my truck due to defective fuel sending unit. Nissan is refusing to honor the recall because in 2010 they replaced the fuel tank. I stated the fuel tank is not the fuel take sending unit which was not replaced at that time. Dealer charged $850.00 for repairs and nissan will not honor the recall on the fuel sending unit. The recall stated this is a safety recall due to the failure of this unit could cause a crash.

I noticed a fuel odor for about 2 days and then my check engine light came on. I went to my local nissan dealership on 9/26/2014 and was told that my fuel pump is not sealing properly on top of my fuel tank due to rust.i was informed that the tank needs to be replaced and the cost would be $954 dollars.this is the second time i have had this problem.this same problem occurred in may 2009. I had the same fuel odor issue. They dropped the tank, cleaned up the rust, resealed the fuel pump, and re-installed the tank.at the time it cost me $594 dollars. I have the receipts for both issues. At the time nissan corporate stated that they would not pay for the issue. This is a recurring problem for me and i read under the "complaints" section for this vehicle that other people have had this same problem.this is both a tank defect and more importantly a safety issue.

Previously i reported a fuel tank leak.i have seen that other 2000 / 01 frontiers had the same issue.nissan recalled the 2001"s and replaced the fuel tank. Corrosion on parking brake hardware on back wheels caused me to drive unknowingly with parking brake partially engaged.in 4 wheel drive high,at low speed on a snow covered road, i tapped my brakes. While drivingautomatic transmission doesn't shift properly from the secondto thethird gear.dealerwas not notified.

Possible transmission defect in nissan truck certified mail.the cause of the transmission failure was that two internal bushings had managed to move, cutting off the supply of transmission fluid into the transmission which caused it to overheat, seize and fracture the gears in the planetary system.

1996 sentra gxe developed problems with the fuel system, and transmission.***no answer required***. *mr the consumer no longer owns the sentra.he now has a 2000 nissan frontier in which he experienced lingering slipping,a jerking feeling coming from the transmission, rear differential or some part in the drive train.when the transmission is trying to shift from 1st to 2nd gear, it sounded as if it were having difficulty releasing from 1st to 2nd gear.the consumer was told metal parts/pieces were found in the bottom of the transmission pan.the technician had diagnosed the problem to be a defectivedrive shaft center support bearing, however the consumer continued to experience problems.

On chrismas day, my father and i weredriving my nissan pu on route 29 in virginia at about 55 mph.a sudden and severe jerk was felt twice and we pulled off and checked the truck for dammage.no obvious external damage was noted at that time but there was a grinding noise noted when truck was put in 4 wheel drive low.normal function noted in 4 high and 3 high.on 1/2/2001 at dealership ...the left front 4x4 hub cover was noted to be missing and the hub had spiral cracks all around it.the dealership refused to confirm this as a torque fracture and refused to entertain any thought that the truck they had sold had malfunctioned.not only was this incidentscary but i am just thankful thatmy father and i were not in a high speed accident due to this failure.

Carrier bearing at the center support failed.truck started vibrating after the failure.dealer replaced the bearing but the vibration got worse.dealer replace the whole drive shaft.i have noticed the same troubles reported many times from different frontier owner.now asking nissan customer affair to clarify the cause of failure.2001 model does not have a carrier bearing.i discussed possiblity of defective design on 1998-2000 model because of this nissan's correction effort.carrier bearing failure will end up with the drive shaft to fail, which may cause a fatal accident.i believe this needs to be corrected under recall.

Severe vibration during acceleration or while pulling a load.

I have made repeated complaints to victory nissan in richmond virginia about this vehicle.i have also contacted nissan directly and they never even addressed the letter i sent them december, 2001.my truck has experienced drive train vibrations since i purchased it at 6900 miles.despite the dozens of technical bulletins addressing this problem, i have repeatedly been told that nothing can be done to help my vehicle.when the center bearing was finally discovered to be bad, the delearship replaced it and the shimmy i originally had was then magnified to an atrocious harmonic hum.riding in my truck is liking riding on a washing machine.i have been advised by the dealership not to haul loads or tow as the vibrations would get worse.i have experienced this for myself, and they are much worse when towing.my vehicle in no way serves the purpose for which i purchased it and i have been cast aside and ignored by nissan since my car was only 11 months old.i am fed up and i think everyone should know what a terrible vehicle this is!

This has been an ongoing problem with multiple frontier owners. Replacement part "fix" nissan provides is also known to fail. No safety defect listed in summary.

Since ownership of vehicle consumer states he felt there was something wrong with steering wheel, as he was driving home he let the steering wheel go and suddenly the vehicle was pulling to the right almost causing an accident, consumer took vehicle into dealership to be inspected and dropped it off when he returned to pick vehicle up and drove away consumer states he almost hit a curb so vehicle was returned and consumer waited for vehicle and was told by dealership they could not find the problem, consumer requested that mechanic take a test drive with him, mechanic did see what it was and told consumer that was normal, however dealership did perform a wheel alignment and 2 weeks later the vehicle was pulling again, consumer took vehicle to another dealership and another wheel alignment was performed, consumer also states driveshaft has rusted.

I was on yahoo.com in a club for the specific vehicle i have and alot of other owners advised for everyone check their driveshaft carrier bearing to see what typy everyone had, whether it be a solid type or the 3 prong type. The 3 prong type was what went bad on the vehicle, the bottom rubber prong would pop out of the metal casing enclosing the bearing; therefore causing the driveshaft to shift and come out of place. I have had this vehicle for a little over 35 days now. I took it into my dealer and they verified it was bad and had to order another driveshaft simply due to this driveshaft carrier bearing.i believe the new 2001 nissan frontier is coming with a one piece driveshaft, unlike the 200 with a two piece driveshaft. I believe that the one piece would rectify this problem, because another owner has had to have three driveshafts now and the problem is still occuring. The one piece i feel would "fix" the problem we owners are having.

No specific events led to failure.at approximately 109,500 the transmission begain jumping out of first gear without warning.i had t be extremely aware of this when pulling ino traffic.at 110,079 miles, the first gear failed completely when i was pulling out of my driveway.the complete failure occured on dec. 31, 2004.the sudden jumping out of gear started about a month before that.at the very least, nissan should advise all owners of 5 speed manual transmission on nissan crew cab 4wd units with a v-6 engine that when the gear box jumps from first to neutral position, that first gear failure is imminate.

Main transmission rod (standard) had to be replaced at 130,000 miles and main throw out bearings had to be replaced at 100,000 miles.both repairs were costly for a truck that was bought brand new and isnt even paid for yet. Nissan's have a reputation for lasting forever, but i guess we got a bad one

Manual transmission failure - all bearings worn out, gears discolored, countershaft damaged and various other internal transmission problems.

Seat belt is fraying due to burr on shoulder belt guide.still installed.throttle cable is fraying/separating.

Went into dealer to change passenger seat belt under life time warranty. Dealer said passenger seat belt was bad. Driver seat belt was replaced life time under warranty 5 months before. They said part seatbelt passenger was no longer in production and to call nissan. I called nissan and was given a case number. They told me they were searching for the part. Weeks go by with no official update but they changed the reps 2 times. The last nissan representative [xxx] contacted me april 15th saying they could not find the part and would pay $800 for the trucks back. I questioned on why they would stop producing a lifetime warranty safety device passenger seat belt when it clearly could be a danger to rider in the passenger seat. Nissan had pictures of the truck and how great of condition it is. I told them i just wanted a seat belt fixed under the life time warranty not to give away my truck for $800 when which has line-x, nav and tow for work.i asked [xxx] how does that help me? she said that was kelly blue book was $800. When i looked it was $4k not $800. Iasked why the seat belt mechanism can't be fixed. She said that "i" would have to find a dealer to do that. Would not answer my question on getting 2nd option. Any question after she would not answer.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Took vehicle to an alignment an suspension expert, said the truck ride height cannot be adjuster up to factory specs, and maintain alignment. He had to lower the vehicle to allow it to be aligned properly. It is my guess that there is a design issue or part failure. I believe nissan knows this, and lowered the ride height themselves to allow alignment at the factory, sacrificing balance, driveability and safety. I notice most models of this truck have the same tilt to the passenger side.

Intermittent problem with the speedometer, tachometer, odometer and temp guage. The needle on all three of them occassionaly drops to 0 and stays there for an undetermined time until they spring back to life for a while.after some on-line research, it appears that this is a problem with many 2000 year models including: altima, sentra, frontier, and pathfinder.this has been a recurring and on-going problem.

When slowing down, sitting at a stopor letting off the accelerator pedal, vehicle accelerates up to 1500 rpms by itself. Dealer states that this is normal operation for the vehicle.

The idle system on this vehicle will cause an accident sooner or later. The idle is very erratic, quite often sticking at 2000 rpm or higher for prolonged periods, even with the foot completely off the accelerator.i have seen the same problem reported in several user groups on the internet.

The stress has taken it's marks on us.

Upon starting upvehicle in the mornings, it would rev athigh rpms and surge.vehicle would continueto surge until itcut off. Turnit back on, and there wereno problems for awhile, then it happened again.

After driving for about 50 miles at freeway speeds, i put on the foot brake and the motor started racing.the only way it stopped was to turn off the ignition.it happened three times in one evening but the dealer and technicial were unable to duplicate it.therefor they said they could not fix it.i contacted the consumer affairs of nissan and they gave me the same answer. They returned the truck to me without doing any repair work.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

While driving my gas pedal fell to the floor, the jam nut on the throttle cable had backed off allowing the cable housing to disconnect from the bracket. The engine went to idle speed but i had no throttle control to move from the fast lane to the right shoulder.

Contacted nissan consumer affairs - their reply was bedford nissan and techline determine vehicle is operating normally.my concern about idle is not due to any defect in the way vehicle was built - this condition is normal and characteristic of vehicle.i am unsatisfield with this response - several trips to the dealer have not solved this problem.1500 rpm's in third gear is 25 mph and in fourth gear it is 30 mph.rpm's will not drop off until transmission is put in neutral.nissan does not recognize this as a problem.

Sudden aceleration while driving or at a stop position. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop and nothing could be found.

Ventilationsystem air comes in andcan't be shut off. Consumer contacted dealership, and mechanic told him that he needs to have an air conditioner installedto solve the problem. With window closed andwith ventilator on, all kinds of polutant comes into the vehicle due to design flaw of ventilation system.

Vehicle is pulling to right when driving at any speed. Dealer cannot remedyproblem. Consumer contacted afirestone dealer to have wheel alignment done, thinkingtires were at fault. Mechanic statedfront right caster cannot be adjusted.consumer stated seat rattled.window molding was replaced.passenger side air bag warped, dealer replaced air bag module.

Passenger side mirror is the cheap model that does not give the correct distance of the vehicle on that side. It is not normal for a person to look at the driver side mirror (which is true) the inside mirror (which is true) and then your eyes have to change focus because passenger side mirror is like looking through a microscope. This is not a normal demand on your eyes and very dangerous at the freeway hight speeds because of desecptive distance perceived after looking through left side or inside mirror. I am asking for a recall of all these cheap mirrors and have almost had accidents because of the deception of these mirrors. At the cost of the vehicles these days, they should not be allowed to put this cheap mirror at a place that is very key to today's drivers safety.

The inside cover for the sunroof fell off into the front of the consumers face while driving causing loss of visibility.nlm

Driver's side window is loose ,will not completly stay up unless it's rolled up or down , dealer claims a design defect.

Wiper arm broke, leaving me in a downpour with no wipers.i was towed to service, but no dealer in three states had the part.all dealers and the regional office said that the part had been on backorder and was in demand, leading us to believe that the manufacturer was aware that there was a problem and was not acting to fix it.regional parts supervisor confirmed this.after a day's search, we found a used part (at higher cost) 100 miles away.

(1) sudden, complete failure of windshield wipers, while driving in rain.(2) wiper linkage separated causing wipers to suddenly stop moving.(3) found plastic link socket end worn due to corroded pivot ball on center pivot assembly. Replaced with new link arm and new pivot assembly. Old parts are available.

On three (3) separate occasions, the mechanical linkage for the windshield wipers have failed, and have been replaced at the dealership.fortunately, this has never occurred during highway driving.in all cases, the weather conditions were well above freezing, so ice/snow was not a factor. "incident date" is the most recent of the three.

Windshield wiper arm failure:last monday, the arm that connects the windshield wipers to the motor disconnected.if this had happend on last friday, during a severe downpour i would have not been able to see the road.the dealer, freeman nissan in santa rosa said that they sell one of these arms every two to three months.the arm has to be replaced.

Consumer stated while driving, there was a vibration coming from the vehicle, then the left front wheel became disconnected from vehicle, causing the vehicle to strike the pavement.(ohio traffic crash report, 10-91-300)
