I was involved in a frontal crash where a vehicle pulled out in front of me. Both vehicles were a total loss resuting personal injury to me. The air bag did not deploy. I was traveling 55 mph on a major highway at tiime of a accident. I had to have brain surgery as a result. I had other injuries also. The air bags could havd lessening if not have prevented the injury. I will have to confirm the dxact date but the date i put is close to best of my memory. I can confirm exact date but will have to research it.

Air bag failed on several occasions, unable to fix problem.

Air bag light came on intermittently.consumer tookvehicle todealer, anddealer repairedvehicle. But soon after that vehicle started to have the same problem.when taken todealer, hewas not willing to do anything.

Driving at approximately 20-25 mph, drove over slight dip when dual airbags deployed without hitting anything or without warning, causing injuries and burns.

No deployment of driver and passenger air bags during vehicle collision.yh

While driving at 50mph on freeway rear ended another vehiclethat cut in front of truck, neither airbag deployed in accident, no injuries. Dealer contacted and is aware of incident. Will look at vehicle upon arrival.

While driving 45 mph, the consumer had just went around a curve when the left rear tire blew, she lost control of vehicle, hit a sign and then flipped over. The frontal air bags failed to deploy. The driver and passenger were injured.

While driving at 45-50 mph, accident occurred, and air bags did not deploy. Consumer hit concrete which weighed at least 3 to 4 hundred lbs. Front end of vehicle was mangled. *jg

While driving at 55 mphtransfer case locked up, causing the rear end to lock up.vehicle slid out of control, went off the road into a ditch, and hit a fence. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed.dealer has been contacted.

I was hit head-on by an errant driver.my airbag did not deploy appropriately resulting in a broken jaw in three places, 8 destroyed teeth, and a fractured skull.the vehicle was totaled beyond repair. Received 12/27/0764200.updated 12/12/07

The air bag light comes on flashing indicating a malfunciton in the system.this first began 3 weeks after purchase.first repair attempt was july 17, 1998.second repair attempt was august 14, 1998.second attempt included replacement of the rpl sensor and diagnosis unit and the passenger airbag.this repair caused the light to go off indicating and apparent sucessful repair.approximately 3 weeks later the air bag malfunction indicator light came back on.a third attempt to repair was on october 2, 1998.a fourth attempt was on october 16, 1998.on this attempt the rpl sensor and diagnosis unit was replaced again.the light went off and the vehicle appeared

Am interested in any reported instances of either driver or passenger side air bags not deploying on this make/model vehicle. I was involved in a moving accident with a large deer 0615 am 30jan 01. I didn't give much thought to the bag/bags not deploying until both the insurance rep and their appraiserwere really concerned about the bags not deploying.

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. While driving at various speeds, the instrument panel became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the instrumental cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Ma 10/5the consumer stated the gas gauge always read full, the odometer always read 99999.9 and the speedometer always read zero. Updated 03/03/16

Tl - the contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier pickup truck.a check engine light came on and the vehicle was taken to the nissan dealer.the dealer diagnosed that the speedometer assembly had to be replaced.the dealer has been unable to get the part for the repair and does not know when it will be available. The current and failure mileage was 118,000.

Driving down road instrument panel, odometer, speedometer work intermentely.battery is being overcharged.have replaced 2 batteries and 1 alternator and now it dosent charge at all.truck lost power in the middle of intersection. This has happend more than once and had to push it to side of road and get it towed.

On april 2003 digital instrumental panel went broke/odometer went 999999/temperature gauge went high, and fuel gauge went to high. Dealer notified. Please provide further information.

The dashboard gives erroneous readings, this includes the odometer, the speedometer, fuel gauge , heat gauge. This may cause an over heating of vehicle, erroneous speeds, running out of fuel, erroneous odometer. Nissan will not pay for diagnosis stating the dealer is in complete charge of pricing for diagnosis of 100.00 with no guarantee of reimbursement. The maker of vehicle should be held responsible not the dealer after all nissan made the vehicle. While checkingonline it appears to be a prevalent issuewith nissan frontiers trucks. Various calls have been on deaf ears.

Instrument cluster started to fail, first the speedometer, then gas and heat gauges, now everything is pegged and speedo reads 9999999.

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. While driving approximately 40 mph, the speedometer and tachometer fluctuated. In addition, after the vehicle exceeded the mileage reading 999,999, the fuel gauge became inoperative and the rpm reading fluctuated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was unavailable.

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed and the contact was unable to readany of the gauges.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnosis that located the failure at the instrument panel circuit board. The vehiclewas not repaired. The failure mileage was 127,000 and the current mileage was 128,000.

Vehicle has 98,000 miles on frontier truck speedometer works intermittently or sometimes does not work at all. Inaccurate speed determined by radar speed limit device its off by at least 20 miles per hour recall this vehicle.! a search of nhtsa database indicates many identical problems with this model recall this vehicle so that other owners can get this fixed safety problem and cant pass state smog inspection.

Instrument cluster. Does not work. No gauges work at all. Do not know what my speed is, fuel level, rpm, heat gauge, nothing at all.started by just going out once in a while then in june 2007 completely quit working. Had to buy a gps so i know how fast i am going. Odometer reads 999999. Dealer says their is no replacement part and it is a known issue but can not get parts.

All gauges are non-responsive. There is no way to indicate how fast you're going, if you have fuel, what the rpm is, what the mileage is on the vehicle, or if the vehicle is too hot or too cold. There are hundreds of complaints in customer review websites that i have read after my vehicle's problem started. I believe this is a safety issue and that nissan should be responsible for what appears to be faulty components in the instrument gauge cluster. This problem also prevents owners to register/pass inspection/drive their vehicle with state inspection laws.

Alternator failed on my 98 pickup.when changing i found that the original alternator was remanufactured .i bought this truck new and alternator was never changed. Complained to manufacturer - they responded " information not available" and they are "not in a position to move forward".

Instrument cluster failed. Speedometer and gas gauge malfunctioning.inaccurate readings.no replacement part or repair available.

98 nissan frontier instrument clusters are defective. There are several complaints on line and no parts available. Mine started first by the speedometer being off. This cost me two speeding tickets and two speeding warnings before i realized what the problem was. Then the speedometer quit working all together then the fuel gauge now everything fuel, temp, speedometer, odometer and tachometer all of them quit working. This seems to be a common problem with this vehicle and should have been recalled a long time ago. The problem is nissan can't even fix this problem because the parts are not available and the company that manufactured the instrument clusters went out of business. When this problem first started i didn't even know i had an issue because it was just the speed off by about 10 miles per hour it said i was going slower then i was actually going. This is a safety issue and should have been investigated and recalled along time ago. What about people driving through school zones with children?

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. While driving at various speeds, the instrument panel became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the instrumental cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. All gauges( speedometer, tachometer, temp, and fuel) malfunction periodically at the same time. Sometimes this results in the gauges pegging out or just not working at all. The frequency with which this occurs increases daily. The speedometer doesn't really ever function properly at this point.i feel this malfunction is cause for a recall because in doing some research i have found numerous complaints on multiple online forums indicating this exact same malfunction. I don't know how many formal complaints have been filed regarding this problem, but from what i was able to find i can't believe there is no recall on this problem.

The problem is with my 1998 nissan frontier 4x4, the problem is the speedometer is not reading the correct speed, using a radar speed set up, and confirming with a gps, the reading on the speedometer significantly varies, holding the vehicle at a constant speed of 50 mph on the oem speedometer will generate actual vehicle speeds from 42mph to 66mph, my concern is more safety than a speeding ticket, basically the operator has no idea how fast the vehicle is going, sometimes the speedometer will jump and move, while at a constant speed,i have tried to purchase replacement parts from nissan, and have made several inquiries on what to do about it without success, i have tried to purchase a used part as well, without success, the feed back i am getting from the field is that the 1998 and 1999 model frontiers have a significant problem with the speedometer, which indicates to me there is a design flaw, this coupled with the safety issue, i feel that a investigation into this may be justified,it was only by observation that i detected this problem, there may be other frontier drivers that are totally unaware that the speed on their speedometer is in error and could have a potentially dangerous result,

1998 nissan frontier problems with the circuit board. Customer stated that the dealer would order a new board and went back a couple days later and was told they didn't make them anymore.the circuit board that controlled all of the gauges on the dash had stopped working; such as the heat, speedometer. Mileage, gas and tachometer.

The circuit board behind the dash instruments that operates all of the dash board instruments on my 1998 nissan pu has failed.the dealership could not obtain a new one and said that the part is no longer made. The pu has about 58000 miles on it but now i can not have it safety checked because none of the gauges on the dash work.i tried to get some positive response from the customer service in canada but enev after 4 calls -- nothing but a run a round.

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier.on september 1, 2007, the contact took the vehicle to the dealer because all of the instrument panel gauges were blank.he paid $900 for the repair and was informed that the circuit board would arrive the following day.after returning to the dealer several times, he was finally informed that the circuit board was unavailable and was no longer being made.the contact called the consumer affairs office of the manufacturer several times, but they have not responded.the vehicle is 8,000 miles over warranty and cannot pass state inspection.nissan does not have the part and does not rebuild them any longer.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 58,000.

While driving about 10-15mph there was a sudden explosion ofbattery.battery was in pieces. Dealer could not determine cause of problem.

Battery exploded when vehicle ignition was started.

I turned the key to start the truck.the engine turned over twice and then the battery exploded like a bomb.body damage to the hood of the vehicle occured as well as damage to all the engine compartment components as a result of being sprayed by corrosive sulfuric battery acid.

Battery died because the alarm was on for four days.yh

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. The contact stated that the engine constantly lost power. The dealer (campbell nissan of edmonds, 24325 wa-99, edmonds, wa 98026, (425) 774-2174) was notified of the failure, but was unable to provide a permanent remedy to repair the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to two different independent mechanics who diagnosed that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. The first independent mechanic rebuilt the engine, but the failure continued. The contact had to go across four lanes of traffic to an exit ramp as the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was towed to the second independent mechanic who stated that the engine assembly needed to be replaced again. The manufacturer was notified. The manufacturer issued eight tsbs for the engine, but no recalls for the engine concerning this year, make, and model. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

Thermostat for a/c and heater system failed.

A gas fumes were coming inside from the vents of the vehicle. Driver noticed that while the vehicle was parked a brown liquid was leaking onto the ground.driver took vehicle to the dealer, andmechanic determined that the sending unit needed to be replaced.

1998 nissan frontier-fuel pump failed-towed to dealer in mid winter. Dealer claims the tank and sending unit must be replaceddue to rust/corrosion for over $1100.00. Ok'd repair but cannot be done because no fuel tanks available. Dealer has truck, to tow it to a private repair shop would be an added expense with no guarantee of repair. Dealer will only use new nissan tank that they can't get. I have no truck.

Fuel gauge.constant failures since purchase.

Consumer was informed by the dealership that the fume smell was coming from the fuel sending unit. Fuelleak edfrom the fuel sending unit.dealership did not resolve the problem.

Fuel gauge does not indicate proper amount of gas in tank.the dealer has not been able to fix the problem and states that there is no current available technology to repair.it is my understanding that other owners are experiencing the same problem.the truck has been in for repair eight times. Dealer has not been helpful and has lied about the extent of the work necessary, etc.

The wire connected to the parking break became hung up on the pulley system and the parking break would not disengage.still had to drive the vehicle about 5 miles with the breaks on causing damage to the rotors and money to have the parking break fixed.

I have a 98 frontier which has twice in the last six months inexplicably reved the engine, on it's own, to almost 6000 rpms in conjunction with this is an increase in speed. The first time it happened i had just left a garage from having a tune-up & oil change. The next was on a very narrow country road. It didn't matter what gear it was in , i have a 5 speed, or reverse. It is very frightening when this happens & the mechanic can find no reason for it. I worry about it happening in the winter on icy roads. This is an accident waiting to happen.

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. The contact stated that while attempting to shift to drive position from the park position, the gear shift became inoperable and the check engine warning light illuminated constantly. The contact also stated that the gear shift began to function after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission sensors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,323.

Seat lever (recall). Clamp on a/c tube (recall). Shifter boot--leaking.

While driving at 55 mphtransfer case locked up, causing the rear end to lock up.vehicle slid out of control, went off the road into a ditch, and hit a fence. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed.dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle isn't accelerating intogears. Consumer took vehicleto dealer to haveclutch checked, and although they did nothing tovehicleit seemed worse. Consumer had just exited ontohighway, andvehicle would only get up to 20mph. It tookvehicle 3-4 minutes to get up to 50mph. Dealer blamed consumer for constantly wearing clutch.

While stopped at a light, the vehicle's clutch pedal support bar broke.as a result, the vehicle accelerated then stalled out.no impact reported. *la

While driving 60 mph differential locked up. Recall 98v-064000. When an appointment is made to take the vehicle in for service, the dealer does not have any of the parts to repair/remedy the problem.dealer cannot tell the consumer when the parts will be available.

You put the seatbelt/shoulder harness on and 90% of the time it will lock tight with out you jerking on it to simulate an accident. In an accident i'm concerned it could cause neck and/or chest injuries. This can happen even if you gently pull it out. You can put it on but it then gets tighter and tighter. You can actually hear it clicking into place.

Recall 98v-065000, front lap seat belts. The dealer has no parts for the repair work to be performed on the vehicle consumer makes an appointment and gets there and vehicle cannot be repaired.

Seat belt failure.mgm

Passenger side seat belt locks up.

Rear seat belts will not remain "snug". Belt assembly will fully loosen and will not protect children in case of accident.

Seat belt tensioner locks and does not release.belt must be unlatched to move or lean forward.

Rear seatbelts do not properly restrain children, when ever a child moves around belt loosens up, and will not tighten back up.

The front seats have no spring suspension. You are basically sitting in a pan of foam. The pan that the seat cushion sits in comes up under the seat side bolsters. As the foam looses it's density and support you eventually end up sitting on the edge of this pan. This causes circulation, and nerve problems in the thighs. I drive about eight hundred and fifty miles a week . I purchased a new lower seat cushion from nissan of brandon. The new cushion assembly's foam was not as dense as the original. After about an hour in the seat both legs began to bother me,not just the right leg as with the original cushion. The original cushion was approximately four and a half years old, and the truck had about one hundred and ninety five thousand miles on it. I returned the cushion and was charged a ten percent handling fee since the cushion had been special ordered. I have had the old seat stuffed with foam a variety of ways to no avail,it still bothers me greatly. Do i now have nerve damage to my legs ? i don't know. They bother me a lot. Now what is my recourse. I can't seem to be able to get a proper replacement from the manufacturer. I only have four payments left on the truck and it is killing me. Please tell me what i am supposed to do?*nlm

Abs brake system is not bringingvehicle to a solid stop with a given distance.. The brakes get worse during snow or ice.

Two incidents of brake failure. The first time about a month ago when the brakes failed, they did engage and started working after pumping them several times. On june 8, 1999 the brakes failed again even after pumping them and putting the brake pedal all the way to the ground, and the vehicle ran into a fence in order to stop.a police report was taken at the site, and both police officers agreed that there were no skid marks and in fact this could be a master cylinder problem. The truck was towed to a body shop and repaired (approx. Cost $4000.00). West valley nissan in glendale and pinnacle nissan in scottsdale both examined the vehicle and stated that they did not note any failures in the brake system or master cylinder.it was stated that mr. Moore, a nissan representative, inspected the vehicle with the same report. There has been no explanation on why the brakes did not work!this is not the first incident but the second!both the police and a service advisor at pinnacle nissan explained that the master cylinder can in fact work intermittently.my biggest fear is putting this vehicle back on the road and driving at a speed that i will not be able to stop safely and could either cause excessive property damage, injury or death. What i don't understand is that i purchased the extended bumper to bumper warranty on this vehicle.why don't they just change out the master cylinder instead of the possibility and liability of another accident. At this moment the vehicle is still at the pinnacle nissan dealer because i refuse to put the vehicle back on the road.

Steering wheel--wiring failed.

Truck has been to dealer 6 times for repair. No safety defect listed within summary.

Small clip holding transmission cable to steering col. Failed. Truck immobilized. Part is on back order from nissan..... Approx 2 to 3 weeks for delivery.

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. The contact stated that the headliner disintegrated and rubber foam debris, which produced a foul odor, filled the interior of the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

The contact owns a 1998 nissan frontier. The contact stated that the headliner separated from the vehicle and foam pieces emitted into the vehicle. The contact inhaled abnormal fumes. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

While driving in 4th or 5th gear at 65-70 mph the vehicle vibrates, cause unknown.dealer rebalanced the tires and adjusted the tire pressure which did not remedy the problem.please give any further details

Truck has bad shake, i have installed new tires, shocks, center support bearing(no charge), had front alignment, truck still vibrates at 40mph and up. Can see bed shake side to side. Makes the back seat thump. Entire truck shakes at 50-55mph. My 95 nissan truck did the exact same thing, no cause ever found. I was told that other owners are having same problem.

Vehicle vibrates excessively starting at 55 mph.

Vehicle has a very pronounced vibration/shaking at speeds over 60 mph. This is severe enough to question the ability of the vehicle to maintain traction/adhesion in wet/slippery conditions. Dealership has been unable to fix the problem.

I was travelling on the florida turnpike near orlando at 70mph when the steering wheel began to shake. I began to slow down, but the shaking became more violent. Suddenly, without warning, there was a terrific bang, the sound of tearing metal and the car began to fishtail. I was able to slow the vehicle and pull on to the shoulder. When i exited the vehicle i saw that the front, left tire had lost its tread. This incident caused $1500+ dollars of damage to the vehicle. It cost me $250 deductible and i also had to buy a new set of tires. I have pictures of the damaged tire. I went to a firestone dealer with the damaged tire and he told me that they wouldn't do anything because the tire had more than 30,000 miles on them. Am i entitled to recover the deductible i paid from firestone???( dot number: tire size: p215/65r15 )

When making turns at speeds of 25-30 mph, steering wheel vibrates.

This is a 4wd extended cab vehicle with a summer tire, and after 3000 miles tread has worn the wheel balance is off. Also, the alignment is off. The dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle vibrates/shakes excessively when driven between 60-70 mph which could cause loss of control. Dealer has replaced tires but defect is still occurring. Cannot determine problem.

This component has failed on both the right and left side. In both cases the washer was missing that holds the bushing in place. The first occurrence happened at 20,000 miles and the seconand was discovered at 48,000. The dealer was asked the first time to check the lelt side but they stated that it was nissan policy to fix only what was broken. In both cases the washer was missing and i wonder how many other trucks have this same problem. This defect causes causes excessive sway while driving the truck and the driver could loose control. While driivngat highway speedsvehicle bounces from side to side when hitting a bump. The problem has been reported to the manufacturer. Two of the shocks will be replaced. Parts will be ordered.please provide any further information.

There was a sway barlink that was felled infront suspension. When this happened there was a lot of vibration, and rattling when going over bumps.

Front sway bar link failed. Mjs

Front right tortion bar had come from the manufacturer improperly adjusted, causing poor directional problems, resulting in failure.

Front torsion bar linkage bushings do not have washers on top to retain them in place. This allows the bushing to be shoved over the top of the retaining nut resulting in the total failure of the bushing.

My 1998nissan frontier xe king cab has around 93,400 miles on it and it started to make noise on the drivers front side, when i would go over bumps and now it makes noise even on smooth roads. I asked my friend to take a look under the left front side of the truck and he said that my stabilizer bar is broken and that his friend had a 1999 nissan frontier xe kingcab and it was a recall due to the washers being the wrong size and so he took my truck to the dealer last week and they told him their was no recall on the stabilizer bar and so he told them this is safety issue and he would contact nissan about this issue, yesterday nissan consumers affairs contacted me and told me that they talked to thebuena park nissandealer and that their was nothing they could dobecause the truck is out of warranty.in the end i am going to take my truck to my mechanic and have this problem fixec, but my friend said my stabilizer bar will break again because of the wrong size washers, he feels this is a safety defect and should be reported and that nissan should correct the problem.

Vehicle vibrates and shakes excessively at highway speeds, numerous repair attempts without resolve. Dealership beleives there is a problem with this model of truck and has told me that they have seen this problem often with this model truck. Manufacture claims no problem. So far i have had 3 sets of tires, gas shocks, several balances on tires and a tow package installed to try and solve problem. Dealership also mentioned trying to shim the drive train.

It will not slow down, but it will speed up which can cause an accident. Contacted dealer and they said all vehicles do this because of the new polution control..

Doors have power windows that were made loose when new so you could not drive with windows partialy down. They had to be completelylowered to drive without wobbling. This is an air conditioned truck, so the windows don't get used that much, but they have gotten to the point of rattling loosely when winding up or down. They wobble at least an inch sideways. As i've been seeing so many complaints on the internet about frontier pickupsand xtera suv's, i'd thought i'd like nissan to know they have a defective product.

Window and valve train failure.

The truck shakes and shimmies and pulls to one side or the other.it's a intermittent problem that may be due to a misaligned rear end.
