Traveling w/ flow of traffic when turn head for split second not realizing the vehicle ahead of me stalled, so she had no brake lights or flashers, nevertheless i slammed into the that vehicle in front of me. I hit wrapped myself around thesteering wheel and my head flew over the steering wheel and back unto the seat. But never did the airbag deploy to hold me in place.my injuries where shortness of breath, since my chest and neck were bruised. My arms were difficult to move. My head was pounding along with my jaws in pain.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. While driving approximately 40 mph, both the driver and passenger air bags deployed, without warning or impact. The contact stated that the driver's air bag struck her in the face. As a result, the contact crashed into a curb and destroyed the transmission and the passenger side seat belt. The contact stated that the air bag indicator flickered on and off prior to the failure. There were no injuries. The contact drove the vehicle to her home. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

Our 2000 nissan altima gxe 4 dr sedan comes equipped with driver and passenger side air bags. They failed to deploy during a serious accident this past friday. Although we were not seriously hurt the paramedics, police officers and fire fighters found it amazing and incredible that a late model car's air bags would not deploy at this accident. A drunk driver hit the left side of my car. I was travelling at 40 miles per hour through an intersection when he tried to make a left turn. He hit me in the process and the impact was such that we had to take my wife to the emergency room to make sure she didn't have any internal injuries. I am just disappointed that the air bags, that are intended for these types of accidetns, did not deploy. If this is a manufacturer's defect then it is a matter that need to be addressed.sincerley, carlos arredondo.

While driving 55 mph the vehicle was involved in a frontal collision but none of the air bags deployed.*nlm

Detail: on febraury 2, 2007 vehicle was traveling at a high rate of 45-55 mph when it hit another vehicle that pulled out in front of it head on. Neither the driver's side nor the passenger's side airbags deployed. Driver substained minor bruises and hip pain. Car was totalled out by insurance company.

My car stalls while driving. It sputters, meaning i will have my foot on the gas, the rpms will drop to 500, then with my foot off the gas the rpms jump all the way to 2500! this sudden acceleration can plow me right into a car, pole, busy intersection, etc. It happens often. It has happened to me while driving on the freeway at 60 mph, and on local streets at 25 mph. This is very dangerous! if the car suddenly loses acceleration and my foot is still on the gas, the guy behind me is going to hit me. And when the car accelerates on its own all of a sudden, im going to rear end the guy in front of me. This is horrible!

The gauges all go dead in the dash on my 2000 nissan altima. This is really very scary as i have really no idea how fast i'm going and just try and go with the flow of traffic when this happens. Living in a very busy city and taking the expressway when necessary poses a threat to myself and other drivers. I have had to pull over and let the car cool and then complete my trip so as to have working gauges. No nissan dealer or mechanic has been able to offer a solution to the problem and based on my research this seems to be a widespread issue with nissan. Also, the o2 sensors and the gaskets are bad on this car.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima.the contact stated that the gauges in the instrument panel would fail intermittently.also, whenever the gauges did work, the vehicle would lose power abnormally.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred.the failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 150,000.

My odometer, heat gauge, rmp, and gas gauge goes out while driving and nissan headquarters will do nothing about.there also has been other cases reported to nissan.

Heat dispay, speedometer/odometer/rpm meter fade out intermittently. Ts

The instrument panel/gauges would intermittently go out while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer was unable to locate the problem.

My 20000 nissan altima speedometer, odometer, tachometer and temp gauge all will quit working simultaneously while driving leaving me with no way to know if i am driving at a safe ,legal speed. After diagnostic tests the speed sensor was replaced which did not fix the problem. I am afraid this will cause a wreck and after visiting several auto forums online have found this is a common problem with this make of car.

Gauges shut off, freeze, and advance while in motion, confusing the drivers.causing unknown speed, gas, temperature, and others metering. This is happening since i bought the car.sometime work fine.most of the time gages are down.

First, my altinator died at 37000 miles, and the dealer replaced it with a re-ferbished one.this was last summer, and now my car is just not starting at all sometimes.also, one dealer said that my motor mounts were broken, and a different dealer said nothing about the motor mounts.i take the car in for it's inspections, and have not been in any kind of an accident.because my warrenty is expired, i have to take care of it all out of pocket.this is the worst car i have ever bought!

The dashboard display on my 2000 nissan altima gxe freezes intermittently.the odometer goes blank and the tachometer, speedometer, heat sensors, etc either freeze in place or drop to zero.there has been no damage, but the shop cannot seem to diagnose the issue.

While going 75mph on cruise control all of a sudden all the gauges (rpm, mph, fuel, engine temp) dropped down to zero. Only the cruise control lights remained on. All while a combination of #'s and letters came up on the odometer (even the odometer went blank). It was a shock and i did not know how to react to this. My first reaction was to turn off the cruise control via the buttons on the steering wheel, as soon as i did it this caused all the gauges to come back to life including the odometer. Very weird issue.

While driving on i880 at the speed of 65 mph, the car completely shut down and spun in the middle of the road without any reason or warning. The shut down was instantaneous and included the electrical system. Once the car came to a halt, i was able to put the gear in "park" and restart it. The car then continued to function normally.

The fuel level is not accurate. It first started doing this telling me i had a 1/4 tank left, when i ran out of gas in the middle of an interstate. I then put gas in it and sure enough that's what it was. Ever since then the car never gives accurate readings, i can fill all the way up and it will only show that it is 3/4 full or such but never is precise. This can be a very big issue for someone that does not have a gas station nearby like it happened to me.

I just bought a 200 nissan altima. I was driving to hilton head and 2 hours into the trip the cruise control went off and then the air bag light came on. I kept giving it gas and it just started slowing down. We got hit from behind and spun around. I broke my nose and my girlfriend broke her hip in 3 places.

While driving the dashboard goes out completely. You can not tell how fast you're going or what the rpm is or anything, including the gas gauge. When this happens, sometimes the car begins to lose power as if the gas pedal isn't working and then all of a sudden it comes back and you get propelled forward. This happens very frequently and i'm afraid that i am going to get a speeding ticket one day because there is no way for me to tell how fast i am going when the dashboard goes dead and even worse i'm afraid i'm either going to lose speed and get rear-ended or gain speed and be propelled into the vehicle in front of me. I have researched this, and this is a very common problem with this year, make, and model vehicle. In all the other complaints that i have found online, they all go to the mechanics and they can not figure out the problem. I believe this is a vehicle defect and the electrical unit on the dashboard needs to be recalled and fixed before someone gets injured or killed due to this malfunction. Also, this electrical issue causes the service engine light to turn on and gives a misread when you take it in to be diagnosed.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. While driving approximately 60 mph, all the gauges except the fuel gauges stopped functioning; they displayed the last reading they indicated before the failure. Approximately five minutes later, all of the gauges dropped to a reading of 0 except the fuel gauges. The contact stated that after shutting the vehicle off for a few hours, the gauges began to function properly again. The failure continued intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop but the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The last time the failure occurred, the fuel gauge also malfunctioned. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000 and the current mileage was approximately 182,000. The vin was unavailable.

At least several times a week the instrument panel goes out while driving; the odometer, heat gauge, rpm, everything. Most of the time the speed registers below zero but sometimes it just freezes in place.at what point is nissan willing to address the problem?maybe it is time to file a class action lawsuit.

I own a 2000 nissan altima gxe, and have been experiencing a failure in the speedometer, tach, odometer, and temp gauge while driving.the gauges will freeze up at any time and stay at their last position, while the car continues to operate as normal.the cruise control will also kick off if it is being used at the time.this leads to a vehicle that is only drivable by using the naked eye and judging your speed by other cars, and a failure in correct reporting of mileage.a solution is still under investigation, and a dealer has not been able to diagnosis it yet.i have seen many other reports of this same problem on several models of nissans of this year (frontier, sentra, pathfinders) posted at various online car forums.obviously this is a dangerous issue that has been overlooked by nissan usa.

Tried to start car in garage. Battery exploded, spilling acid and water on garage floor. Damage to hood, pressure of explosure causing two dents and cracking paint.

Consumer states thatwithout any indication vehicle would stall. Consumer is able to restart.

While traveling at 55-60 mph on a declining road vehiclejust shut down for no known reason, causing vehicle to lose all functions while still coaching down the road. Had to use emergeny brakes to stop vehicle. Had vehicle towed to house that firday, and vehicle started up on monday. Taken to dealer for insepection. I bought this 2000 nissan altima new. Since approximately december of '03 the instrument cluster has repeatedly (too many times to keep track of) malfunctioned at arbitrary times giving either no info (gauges all go to 0) or incorrect info (130 mph at 1k rpm w/no water temp and suddenly full tank of gas). Problem can last any where from minutes to 24 hours+. The cruise control also malfunctions whenever this occurs. First took to dealer on 12/31/03, they could not diagnose problem, told me to bring it back while malfunctioning. Finally was able to get the car while malfunctioning to same dealership on 8/1/05. Problem has started to increase in frequency and duration. The second they hooked diagnostic equip to it the cluster corrected. They kept for 2 days, did not malfunction again so they could not diagnose 100%. They want to try replacing the speedometer head at $320, but 1) can't guarantee it will solve problem and 2) can't get part. They estimate 6-8 wks minimum to get part. When i went to leave dealership cluster malfunctioned showing no information, but no technician was available to diagnose. Showed zero on all gauges except gas which arbitrarily read 3/4 tank for entire 20-25 mile trip home. This car is an accident, or worse, waiting to happen.

My vehicle is a 2000 nissan altima se. (also i have heard there are other nissans with this problem not just altima) the problem is the guages on the instrument panel failing during operation, ie. Speedometer, tachometer, gas guage, and temp guage.the first time it happened and just like every other time it happens there is nothing different the guages will just shut off and normally fall to the zero postion. Sometimes the will freeze in place.after the first month i owned the car (bought as a preowned vehicle) the check engine light came on during the guage failures i had the code checked and it was determined the speed sensor was bad.i bought and replaced the speed sensor with an oem part.however the guage failure was not fixed it still happens.the incident date started 21feb2003 and still persists and the numbers of failures i haven't kept count but about average of everyother day it goes out.

Received burns when dashboard burst in to flames while i was driving vehicle.

I was driving home from work.got. Rearended i hit the car in front of me.i was stopped at a light. The airbag did not deploy.i suffered a head injury.broken spine.car was destroyed only thing left was were i was sitting. And the passenger seat.now nissan murano 2005 has faulty airbag too.light on and flashing.vehicle. Rendered unsafe to operate vehicle.nissan has ongoing problems with their airbags and wont help consumers fix the problems.

My 2000 nissan altima idles rough andthe engineshakes. My mechanic ran a diagnostic test and said cylinder 4 was misfiring and the only way to correct it was to change the intake manifold gasket. The price: $1500. This seems to be a common problem because i see the same complaints from 98-01 altima owners. The mechanic, said this was common problem with these cars. He also said changing the gasket will fix the problem. Why isn't nissan forced to recall this issue? someone needs to do their job and look at this issue.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. The contact stated that while traveling 40 mph the contact noticed that the temperature was almost at max. The vehicle began to run rough and smoke started to emit into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who stated that the engine was not the original equipment and there was no coolant. As a result, the engine over heated causing the engine block to crack. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 200,000.

Went out for dinner and noticed nothing unusual. On the way home, "check engine" light came on and engine began to run rough. Then, 200 yards from home, "check engine" light began flashing and engine roughness increased to shaking. Codes read: "knock" and "cylinder 4 misfire". If this had happened in heavy traffic or on one of the bridges that we frequently use, my wife and i both would probably be severely injured, if not dead! the onset was rapid! guess i was not lucky enough to escape this much-stonewalled nissan manufacturing defect that i have learned about only from the multitude of online information. Until it happened to me, it would not have occurred to check into it, with no communication from nissan. Maintenance and all fluids are up-to-snuff.

Our nissan altima gle 2000 caught on fire - engine exploded and the full front of the car is melted. Fire department managed to put out the huge fire before it reached the gas tankotherwise our house would not exist anymore. And we would all be dead. At the time of the explosion we had not entered the car that was warming up in front of our house.insurance company is investigating. I can send you pictures.

While driving at any speed engine failed. No impact reported. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer twice but the technician could not find the cause of the problem.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. The contact was driving 2 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted after the failure occurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing nor was the manufacturer notified. The vehicle was not repaired and the vin was unknown. The failure and current mileage was 95,000.

Engine warning light came on and stayed on. The dealership replaced engine, problem reocurred.

Okay i don't know what the deal with nissan and their recalls, but they definitely need to make a recall on the 2000 altima intake manifold gasket. My car started idling at varying rpms under 1 grand and started vibrating in a strange way.when i give my altima some gas to take off, it comes to the verge of stalling.i did some research on the problem and read a few hundred separate cases where this exact same problem occurred. This is obviously a manufacturing error where nissan has placed the egr pipe too close to the intake manifold gasket, causing it to heat up and eventually leak. Numerous consumers are paying nearly $1000 to correct this mistake that nissan engineers have created on countless cars. This is a serious engineering problem on nissan's part and needs to be addressed and corrected.

Intake manifold gasket is being replaced for the second time on my 2000 nissan altima.the first time was around 60,000 miles, this time around 110,000.the first time i got it repaired by a nissan dealership.this time i went to an independent mechanic since nissan wanted $97 to diagnose the problem.after doing a search on the internet i found that this is a common problem caused by a defect in the way it was built.if that's the case then why hasn't there been a recall?their mistake is costing me alot of money.

2000 nissan altima, car idles roughly and violently shakes as if it were about to stall causing the car to jerk even with the brakes on. The car has become so beat-up by this, it no longer has any power to it. Research shows this is the intake manifold gasket averaging 800 dollars in repair. Because i do not have this money, i can't fix my car meaning i can't get to class, nor get to work to make money. Websites such as this (http://www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/altima/2000/engine/intake_manifold_gasket_leak_car_shakes.shtml) show that i am not the only person with this problem. Nissan should be honoring a defect such as this instead of raking the money.

Instrument cluster freezes indications for long periods intermittently.odometer, tachometer, speedometer, engine temperature all freeze at what they were reading.this has been a repetitive, intermittent problem. Because of lack of true engine temperature reading, car was driven to overheating. Water pump failed causing the engine to overheat, blowing up the radiator and destroying the engine.

While drivingat an undetermined speed the vehicle stalled.the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The mechanic couldnot duplicate the problem.

At 46,000 milesthe car began shaking and stalling at low speeds, then the check engine light came on.we took it to the nissan dealership andwe were told it was the intake manifold gasket & it was repaired. Now 25,000 miles later the same problem is occurring and again it is due to the intake manifold gasket failing.we have estimates to repair it ranging from $600-$1,000.00.the nissan dealership who recently repaired it will not stand behind their product.this is a defective part, there is no way that gasket should fail in 25,000 miles. I have talked to a service manager at a local nissan dealership(not the one who repaired it the first time) and he said there is no way that part should fail in 25,000 miles and stated it should last at least 60,000 miles.this will be the third intake manifold gasket that has been put on this vehicle.the service shop who gave us the estimate said the gasket is falling apart like pieces of an eggshell.this should be recalled because i have found many documented cases of this exact same problem with the nissan altima.

I have a 2000 nissan altima that has over 100,000 miles on it that jerks and shakes due to a problem with the number 4 cylinder. Have had several diagnostics checks done and have replaced all external parts that would cause the number 4 cylinder to not fire correctly and believe that it is probably the intake manifold gasket. This is very dangerous because it causes the car to stall.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. The contact stated that when stopping, the vehicle shook and made a vibrating sound. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the intake manifold needed to be replaced. The intake manifold had previously been replaced three years prior to the failure. The dealer stated that vacuum pressure caused the manifold to malfunction. The failure mileage was approximately 89,500.updated 11/22/11

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. The contact was driving 45 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the catalytic converter failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

Service engine light on 2000 altima gxe . Cylinder #4 mis-fire. Intake manifold gasketsame as issue #'s :#10167168#10145161#10100639#10163901.

At 90k miles, the engine is louder and vibrates during acceleration and when stopping at a red light.there is motor oil constantly leaking from the manifold gasket.all spark plugs were replaced and oil changed, but this didn't help.it is most likely the intake manifold gasket or some other gasket under the manifold cover.

While driving the vehicle shut off. Dealer notified. Ph

2000 nissan altima gxe, replace gasket on intake manifold.

On 6/11/05 the intake manifold gasket failed as evidenced by the check engine light turning on and diagnosis by a nissan dealership in southern california.the failure had no consequences as i had the gasket replaced immediately; however, the part is not available.the same exact problem has resurfaced as of 12/27/07 and nissan corporation is not willing to help fix this problem in any shape or form.at this point, i have decided to not fix the problem and keep driving the vehicle until the condition deteriorates much further.from i am told this could cause the engine to stall, which is a definite safety issue since i can be rear ended in the event it does.

2000 nissan altima gxe has a faulty intake manifold gasket. The problem started a couple of years ago. My car shakes while idle and the rpms gauge moves up and down while idle. I took it to the dealer to have it repaired and they replaced spark plugs, knock sensor. After that, the same thing happened a few months later. Took my vehicle to the same dealer and they now say the intake manifold gasket is leaking. I am having the same problem but a different reason every time i go to the dealer to fix. Will little research i have found several costly complaints regarding this same problem. What is the next step for consumers that are being ripped off by the nissan corporation?

While driving on interstate 75 at speed of 75 mph vehicle engine shut off, vehicle was towed to dealer location whereby service dept. Indicated the overheating was caused by driving in flooded condition when in true fact there was not more than 1" of water on the highway that afternoon. Service dept. Analysis was diagonised as driving in flooded conditions hence causing at 75 mph the radiator fan blade to be pushed back over 3-4" towards the radiator causing the plastic fan blade to penetrate the radiatoir causing the engine to overheat. This dassumption by the service technicans makes no logical sense as the forces required to cause such damage is not logical. The fan blade sits at least 3-4" behind the radiator and would require great forces to move it forward in the opposite direction to sustain such an incident, there was no apparent damage to the plastic blade. Dealer and nissan refuses to accept warranty and as such i have had to involve my insurance company.

When driving, gauges suddenly stop working.the tachometer, engine temperature gauge, fuel gauge freeze in place.the speedometer registers the max and the digital odometer went to zero.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima.the contact stated that the vehicle automatically accelerates when idle and he must slam on the brake pedal to keep the vehicle from moving.the failure occurs at random.the current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 32,000.

A long time ago i started hearing some rattling sort of noise in the front. Took it to carmax, as i have the extended warranty. They said it was a loose belt and charged me $80 since belts aren't covered by warranty. The problem didn't really go away and only got worse. Around 89,000 miles it began to shake when idling and the noise was worse. The check engine light would come on intermittently. My husband found the info on this site, i printed it out and took it to carmax and told them to fix my manifold intake gasket! they wouldn't refund my $80 from the first visit, nor would the pay me $80 for diagnosing it myself. Ha. Oh well. They did $600 worth of repairs, which was mostly covered by my extended warranty (which expires at 92,500 miles). They discovered that the problem had also caused premature wear of my spark plugs, however, and the warranty would not cover that. Based on my online research, it is my understanding that this is due to heat around the cylinder 4 area from the egr pipe which bakes the gasket into leaking and that even though i got it fixed this time, it will likely have to be replaced again in the future.see #10167168#10145161#10100639#10163901also, see carcomplaints.com where you will find 36 complaints on this issue.

Service engine light coming on. Car constantly jerks when idling and sometimes cuts out. Spent $65 on a system diagnostic test. Intake valve gasket failure. Nissan dealer wants over $600 to fix issue. After a lot of research i've found that this is a very common issue with the 2000 altima's. Why isn't nissan taking care of this problem for it's customers?

Throttle assembly continues to fall apart while driving vehicle, disengaging the throttle and rendering the vehicle helpless and unable to accelerate at all.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. The contact stated that the intake manifold failed after 30,000 miles. The intake manifold was replaced april 2007. The failure recurred three years later. The dealer repaired the intake manifold again at the contacts expense. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current was 91,351.

I own a 2000 nissan altima gle, and i have been experiencing what many others with the same vehicle are also experiencing.my car idles very rough, and it is stemming from an issue that nissan will not own up to.there are over 500 reported cases with the same issue, as well as cases reported directly to your attention.and yet, there is no recall.you can check you records for the same issue if you would like:#10167168#10145161#10100639#10163901i would like a response please, and thank you.

The intake manifold gasket around cylinder #4 failed 2-3 years ago (~65,000 miles), causing rough idle/stalling as well as poor gas mileage and triggering fault code p0304.the dealer replaced the gasket for ~$650.within the past couple of weeks (~85,000 miles), the symptoms have returned, accompanied by the same fault code.spraying carb cleaner around the gasket area cause a smoothing out of the idle when applied near cylinder #4, indicating a recurring failure of the gasket.searching the internet indicates that this is a very common issue particular to this engine model, leading to recurring expense to owners due to poor engineering.the most likely cause of this failure seems to be the routing of the egr gas lines too close to the intake manifold, causing premature degradation of the seal.a likely, and cost effective fix would seem to be the addition of a heat shield in the affected area between the egr gas lines and the manifold.the high incidence rate of this failure and the cause of poor engineering, would seem to indicate a recall issue to fix the poor fuel economy and excessive emissions it causes.

My 2000 nissan altima idles rough and sounds like the engine is coughing. My mechanic ran a diagnostic test and said cylinder 4 was misfiring and the only way to correct it was to change the intake manifold gasket. The price: $1200. This seems to be a common problem because i see the same complaints from 98-01 altima owners. The mechanic, who works for nissan, said this was common problem with these cars. He also said changing the gasket will fix the problem but the gasket will leak again after about a year or so. Why isn't nissan forced to recall this issue? someone needs to do their job and look at this issue.

Service engine light coming on. Car constantly jerks when idling and sometimes cuts out. Spent $55 on a system diagnostic test. Intake valve gasket failure. Causing idle to fluctuate, intermittent stalling 2000 altima with 37500 miles, this is a manufacturing defect due to the egr pipe running to close to cylinder 4 area of the manifold. This is happening to all altimas 1998-2001. Nissan should repair as recall, this could cause accidents due to stalling. This should be investigated. Repairs are est. At $850.00. According to the nissan advisor the lifetime of the gasket should exceed 100000 miles. Nissan has a program to correct any unusual defects after the warranty is expired but they refuse to honor their agreement.

Car would idle very rough and nearly dieintake manifold gasket had to be replaced ($900.00).

Please call if you have any new info on my car before its too late thanks!!!!!!!. No safety defect listed.

Please call if you have any new info on my car before its too late thanks!!!!!!!1.

Car started running rough and shaking at idle. Was concerned car could stall out in an intersection. Took to shop, vehicle was diagnosed to have a faulty intake manifold gasket. After doing research, i discovered this is a common problem with this vehicle (2000 nissan altima). Gasket is being replaced. Part is relatively inexpensive, but repair is labor intensive' running hundreds of dollars. This should be a recall as it is such a widespread problem among altima owners.

Please call if you have any new info on my car before its too late thanks!!!!!!!. No safety defect listed.

The failure happened twice today. I drove my nissan altima gxe in new york, ny on aug. 19, 2000 at about 6:30pm. When i was approaching traffic lights at speed about 15-20 mph the engine died and emergency lights went off. I was able to stop and restart my car. 10-15 minutes later, while moving in slow traffic at about 15 mph the engine died again and at this time both emergency lights and sound alarm went off. I was lucky once more to stop safely. I turned off the alarm using alarm key on the ignition key-chain and restarted car again. I used original nissan ignition key with "smart chip". Gas tank was 1/4 full. On july 22, 2000 my car had recomended by nissan 7500 mile interval service.

Consumer experienced exhaust system failure which resulted in exhaust fumes entering the vehicle and resulting in the driver feeling ill (headache, asthma attacks).nlm

Engine shaking while idling, misfire in muffler, and check engine light on at 130k.replaced spark plug system at a cost of $500 and intake manifold gasket due to #4 cylinder malfunction at $400.based on comments on the discussion boards, agree that it appears to be a common nissan defect which should warrant a recall.would like to see nissan take responsibility for this.

Intake manifold gasket failure causing idle to fluctuate, intermittent stalling 2000 altima with 57,000 miles, this is a manufacturing defect due to the egr pipe running to close to cylinder 4 area of the manifold. This is happening to all altimas 1998-2001. Nissan should repair as recall, this could cause accidents due to stalling. This should be investigated and nissan should honor all the repair costs to all affected.

1) normal driving - sel light came on p0304 and rough engine idle 2) intake manifold gasket failed - poor idle - will not pass emission test - 60k miles3) replaced gasket after finding many other owners had same problem even after 32k miles.nissan should fix this under an extended warranty but they refused.here are details of the issue:there is an engineering or material defect on the ka24de engine in regards to the intake manifold gasket. From reading the posts of dozens of owners it appears it is happening to engines made in the 00-01 time frame. If this were just some random problem then you would expect to see about the same number of posts on p0304 and gasket leaks for any year car. Just about all the posts concern specifically 00-01. The first hand evidence i had is when i took off my intake manifold and checked the condition of the gasket. The side with the leak was at cylinder 4. When i took off the gasket, the material at the cylinder 4 side was what i can only describe as "baked". It was hard and brittle and would just crack or snap very easily. The closer the gasket was to the number 1 cylinder it remained more pliable. Obviously the gasket seems to hold up better closer to cylinder 1 because it is cooler there - that is where the passage for the coolant is. This problem causes a p0304 code to get thrown. That is a misfire at cylinder 4. Again, if this were some random problem - couldn't we reasonably expect a normal distribution of the cylinder misfire code from p0301, 302, 303, and 304? but that is not the case. I don't think i have seen any posts on anything other than p0304. There is extra heat around cylinder 4 above what the gasket material is rated for - which is an engine design issue.2 cars verified so far happen to be california emission vehicles it seems plausiblethat the extra heat is related to the emission control devices these cars have - specifically the extra cat converter.

In may of 2006 i was driving my 2000 nissan altima and the sel light came on,i got out of the car and checked the gas cap and it was tight. I called nissan and mentioned this and they told me to check the cap again. After a week i had a diagnostic test done that revealed the egr sensor was bad. I took the vehicle and had the egr cleaned and the light went off for less than 24 hours. This light has been on constantly for about 2 months now and i think that nissan should replace this at no charge. I called nissan in nashville tn and the tech told me that they have been replacing a lot of egr sensors over the last couple of months.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima. The contact stated while sitting idle at a traffic stop the vehicle began to vibrate excessively. The dealer advised the intake manifold gasket would need to be replaced. There were no recalls for the failure. The contact believed odinumber 10145161(engine and engine cooling: exhaust system: manifold/header/muffler/tail pipe) is the same as his failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000 and the current was 81,000.

Have a 2000 nissan altima gle that is running poorly at idle and will stall. Spent 450 dollars on tune up parts to find out later that it is the manifold gasket.was told all nissan altimas are experiencing issues of same nature in the 1999-2000 model and that they are prematurely failing and that nissan is aware of problem and is refusing to recall the vehicles t fix them. Estimated repair 800.00-1000.00 dollars.

2000 nissan-altima intake manifold gasket has failed at 44500 miles. Repairs are est. At $850.00. According to the nissan advisor the lifetime of the gasket should exceed 100000 miles. Nissan has a program to correct any unusual defects after the warranty is expiredbut they refuse to honor their agreement.

2000 nissan altima gasket manifold intake*cwthe consumer stated he first discovered a problem when he took off the intake manifold and checked the condition of the gasket. The side with the leak was at cylinder 4. It was hard and brittle and could crack and snap very easily. The closer the gasket was to the number 1 cylinder it remained more pliable and would have more flex instead of just cracking like hard plastic. Obviously, the gasket seemed to hold up better when it was closer to the cylinder 1 because it was cooler there. The consumer believed the gasket was being exposed to more heat than it was designed to withstand.

The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima.the contact stated that the intake manifold gasket was replaced once.the mechanic recommended that the part be replaced again because it can become a danger and cause the vehicle to stall.the vehicle has experiencedrecent failures. The contact will not have the component replaced at this time.the manufacturer stated that they were aware of the defect, but could not offer any assistance.the current mileage is 57,900 and failure mileage was 32,223. I started to brake my vehicle well before a red traffic light.in the line of traffic, i was braking firmly but my vehicle would not come to a complete stop.at the red traffic light, my vehicle kept bumping a bmw in front of me.i began honking my horn for the driver of the other vehicle to move forward, but she did not.with my foot constantly on the brake, i put my vehicle into park.when i did that, it accelerated more.a man in a truck in the next lane saw that i was having difficulty braking, so he shouted taht i should turn off my ignition.i did.the vehicle finally stopped.the driver of the bmw approached my car asking what was going on.the man in the truck verified to her that i was braking, but couldn't stop my vehicle from bumping her.we exchanged information.i drove my vehicle to my service mechanic nearby.he could find nothing wrong. Sudden failure of throttle body assembly.dealer says it "broke" and he has never heard of this happening.although i consider this to be a fuel supply failure, the auto warranty did not cover repairs claiming it was an "emissions part" and not covered.cost $530.92 to repair.

I was driving the car and all seemed normal, until i pulled into a gas station to refuel. Surprisingly i could not get more than 1/4 gallon into the tank before the pump kicked off and gasoline spit out of the filler neck and all over the ground.my fuel gauge was at about 1/4 tank, so i knew i needed about 11 gallons. I continued to put fuel into the tank at a very slow rate, and the pump kept kicking off and fuel spitting out of the tank filler neck. I finally got 8 gallons into the tank and so i stopped there. Shortly after leaving the gas station my check engine light came on. I got home and hook up my code reader, and it returned a code p1441. Some problem with the evap system. I did some research and found that nissan dealerships have a service bulletin about this problems dating back quite a few years, but do not want to repair the problem free of charge. Dealers want about $100 to analyze the problem and about $400 to repair the car. I believe this could be a big safety issue when people with a 2000 altima try to fuel up their car and gasoline keeps spitting out of the filler neck of the gas tank.

Transmission broke down on highway. The vehicle lost control and power.

Car engine blew up causing fire and other damage to cars was in neutral and beingflat towed behind a motorhome per specs given by manufacture no damage to tires though transmission is supposedly bad can you give advice concerning cause and or prevention of future problems.dt

Transmission jumps in and out of gears while driving. Dealer has inspectedvehicle, and could not correct the problem. Please provide additional information.

2000 nissan altima bought new and faithfully maintained at dealership (tri-city nissan tallmadge ohio) has transmission failure at only 50,000 miles.dealership offers no explanation for this unheard of problem.nissan headquarters tells me they will take care of repair b/c it is unheard of.i wait (without a car) for 2 weeks and then headquarters says they will not repair.when i get repair (over $3k) the shop says defective gear and i now have the part.if someone can't help me with this i am going to sue nissan with punitive.

This vehicle may have a safety problem. When i back the car, i was braking the car. However the engine ouputs too much power and it is very hard to control. Also another time, i have to brake hard to stop the car as the engine output too much power while braking.

When at a stop engine revved at a high rate.consumer shifted to neutral, then to drive to stop vehicle. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

We have been dealing with an issue with the transmission on this car since the day we purchased it.there actually was a problem before we purchased it & we were told it would be corrected if we bought the car.we have had the car in about this & they are unable to correct it. The transmission has gotten so bad that it failed when my wife & kids pulled out onto a busy road & were almost hit because the automatic transmission failed to stay in gear. The garage keeps telling us that they cannot reproduce any of the symptoms and we are afraid to use the car now.

While traveling at 50 mph clutch became stuck to the floor.driver was not able to put it in gear.

Subsequently, the unsecured brake hose was punctured because of contact with moving parts.

While applying the brakes, the pedal went to the floor.the consumer was unable to maintain control the vehicle and hit a tree.the air bags did not deploy.the consumer sustained head and back injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The vehicle was towed and totaledby the insurance company.please fill in additional information.

Carautomatically rapidly accelerates when stopped.the anti-lock off light appeared.this rapid acceleration has happened to me three times in a two week period.i am 50 years old and have never had an accident.now i have rear ended two people when i was completely stopped.the first time, the car stopped when i hit the car in a drive through mcdonald's. The second i was stopped 2-4 feet behind a pick up truck at a light and my car accelerated and hit him.i had to put my car in park to stop it after i hit him.the third time it occurred i was the first one in line at an intersection.i did not hit anyone, but had to shut the car off for it to come back to a complete start.the dealership has had my car on twooccasions and it did not malfunction when they had it in their possession.however, the service manager told me that they have had problems with the sentra model. I now am fearful of driving my car and put it in park whenever i stop.i am going to write to the president of nissan.this is my third altima and i love my car i am just petrified to get behind the wheel.the next time it happens it may be when i am dropping my son off at school.

Consumer had to use a lot of force when applying brakes.engine revved up to 2500 rpms, notstoppingat any occasion. Dealer just fixed it& twice it has done the same.there was surge in engine while stoped at light, and the rpm went from 750-2500.although the vehicle was seviced, the problem reoccured.the dealer found out that the cause was a faulty throttle position switch.however, the problem still exists after the switch was replaced.

Car humps while driving under 40 mph, also when driving 60 mph and braking suddenly the brakes make a loud noise and you have to press all the way down on the brake.

I have returned to the dealer 4 times because the brakes squeak and feel soft.each time they say it is dust on the brakes and clean them.within a couple of days the problem is back

Brakes repaired 4 times, and each time they have failed."brakes needing readjustment". One of the mechanics statedthey do no wrong withvehicle.

While feet was on brakes vehicle accelerated at a high speed, causing an accident. Resulting indriverandpassenger injuries.

We first started to notice a deep, loud rumble when braking...sounds like hitting a rumble strip on the side of the highway.the noise was so loud that my sister asked, "what the heck was that?"i have not had an accident in this car but have been made to take it in to 3 different dealers on 8 to 10 occasions...everytime i take my car in -they inspect and tell me my brakes are dusty or glazed and or need adjusting.one dealership even replaced the entire braking sytem in august 2001- in december 2001 - another dealership is telling me that there is no way the braking system was replaced because my brakes were very worn and glazed/dusted over again or that there is some kind of problem causing the brakes to wear at an amazingly fast rate!!!!!!!!!i have written a 7 page letter -sent copies of service bills - requested a replacement vehicle -been frustrated with service-wasted many hours from work, and home in dealing with dealerships and nissan north america and neighter will admit that they either can't fix the problem or they don't know how to fix it.we have had the run around for 2.5 years....the problem gets fixed temporarily and then comes right back.nissan north america is telling me that i have to let them take another look at my brakes and give them another chance to fix this ongoing problem.my last visit for repairs was around may ? 2002 - the brakes are once again starting to make a deep, loud rumble when applying brakes -sounds to be in the rear end of the car.however, the noise is not always present when using the brakes.- sometimes it happens more in damp weather.also, once the rumble gets reestablished...it become very loud, very obvious.thank you for your time!.

I parked my car at my home on 5/6/16. On 5/7/16 i got in my car to go grocery shopping and it would not start.i got a jump start, replaced to fob battery, replace the car battery, had a locksmith to test the fob. To no avail, so i research my vehicle and found that this was a recall, but since has expired. I purchase my car 9/2013. As i was researching a notice that when the vehicle reacher 84,000 the steering wheel locks.i had my car told to a nissan dealer and was told it would be $1,050. To repair it. It happens so often that they stock the part. I have read 364 complaints asking for nissan to recall this problem.it is not fair to us as consumer to have to pay for this because this is happening in hundreds of vehicle.i have been without my car for 6 days now and nissan consumer affairs said they would have to do research and will notify me by 5/13/16 which will be 8 days. I can't afford a $1,000 to pay for something that is no my fault. I have own a nissan maxima and never had a problem, but since this event. I will not buy another one. On 3/5/2012, i had a vehicle safety inspection.excessive play in the front end was noted.i took my car to monro muffler where the vehicle was placed on a lift and the underside inspected.it was determined that the subframe was so badly corroded by rust that the frame had perforated and broken away from the suspension.there are holes throughout as well as breakage and weakening.monro muffler recommended i contact nissan consumer affairs which i did.i explained the situation to nissan stating the extent of the damage.i was directed by nissan to take the vehicle to a nissan dealer for a diagnosis which i did. Nissan of dartmouth, ma confirmed monro muffler's diagnosis and quoted a minimum $2,300 to repair both the front and rear subframes.beverly bansek of nissan called me back to inform me that nissan would do nothing for the repair.i asked for a supervisor and i was then contacted by the regional supervisor of nissan, vaughn francis who, after reviewing my claim again, stated that nissan would do nothing for me and that the disintegration of the subframes was due to a lack of owner maintenance rather than a defect in workmanship.vaughn francis then stated that there was no need for me to call nissan again as i would only get him and the answer would be the same and that my only option was to contact the bbb autoline dispute resolution division at 1-800-955-5100 which i have done.two nissan dealerships state there is no owner maintenance recommended on the subframes of nissan's vehicles.it is my belief that the failure of the subframes is due to excessive corrosion of the subframe which has lead to perforation possibly from the inside out and because this is an issue of workmanship, nissan should be investigated for a possible safety related defect resulting from inadequate manufacturer's corrosive resistant protection and/or subframe design.

After hearing a squealing noise under the hood while accelarating onto a highway on-ramp. The pulley apparently stripped the bearings and froze up on the hub. Consumer wrote requesting assistance in obtaining reimbursement from firestone for the cost of replacing the recalled firestone firehawk gta02 tire size p205/55r16, dot # w2t2vf3319.after several attempts to get recall repairs, there was a blowout on front passenger side.firestone informed nhtsa that they had reimbursed the consumer for the replacement tires he purchased for his vehicle.

On 4/29/01 i noticed what appeared to be a slice in my tire i brought my car back to the altima dealer who stated i had to bring my car to a place that sells general brand tires when i did that i took it to a sears they took the wheel off and stated to me that it was a defect in the tire on the front left side upon checking the rest of my tires they found that the front right tire was also defective, they also told me to watch the back 2 tires because they came from the same lot of tires, they called general tire who stated i will have to pay 15 dollars a tire for replacement of 2 tires, they did not offer to recall and replace the rear 2 tires, i also notified the nissan dealer i bought the car from and talked to jamie in service who more or less laughed and said oh really thats terrible, i also called the 1-800-nissan-1number, then i was told that it was general tires problem and not theirs??? so now i have to wait 5 days for the replacement tires and i am driving around with one sparetire (donut) and one bad tire until the replacements come in. The linning around the sun roof is hanging by gravity and the clock works intermittently.*cj.

Heat dispay, speedometer/odometer/rpm meter fade out intermittently. Ts

When driving at 45mph to 50 mph in normal evening traffic, suddenly the tachometer, engine temp gage and speedometer went to zero/no reading. Digital odometer also went to zero. Fuel gage showed more than full when the actual reading should be about 3/4 full. A web search shows that this problem has happened at least to two other owners who may have not reported this to nhtsa. Please see http://www.micro-tech-auto.com//bbs/nissan/index.cgi?read=1642, http://www.micro-tech-auto.com/bbs/nissan/index.cgi?read=3993. Thank you.dt

Driving vehicle home after work.stopped to pickup child at daycare.parked vehicle and went inside.moments later people came in tocall 911 due to car on fire in parking lot.no recent work or drivable issues.

The linning around the sun roof is hanging by gravity and the clock works intermittently.*cj.

Stopped at red light, car raced to 4500 rpms, foot on brake. Put in netural, kicked gas pedal, raced even higher, kicked it again, it slowed down.went 500 feet, raced to 7000 rpms. Took to dealer, nothing found wrong.happened again on the 12 of october, then again on the 14 of october.at dealership now they are going to drive it until it happens to them. Scary situation.any help would be appreciated....thanks for your time and consideration.mr

Car suddenly accelerates when stopped or stopping.there was no possibility my foot was on the brake and accelerator at the same time.car was shifted to neutral and engine turned off. On restart engine performed normally.

The throttle/accelerator stuck, 3 times, the rpm's or the car roared, i was in the garage once, at the end of my driveway the second time moving forward, and the 3 rd time in reverse the vehicle was spun around 360 degrees, i hit a stationery vehicle going about 40-50 mph. Within 15-20 feet.

I have experienced 2 dangerous incidents of sudden unanticipated acceleration with my 2000 nissan altima se [xxx].the first, witnessed by my husband & son, occurred on december 26, 2003.approaching a red light, i slowed to a stop with my foot squarely on the brake.the engine suddenly raced alarmingly and the car tried to lurch through the light.i put the car in neutral and the engine racing increased.i turned the car off.the head mechanic at our local dealership had no ideas.against my better judgment, i took the car back.the next weekend, it happened again.i pulled backwards out of a parking spot, put the car in drive, and the engine suddenly took off.the rpms registered within seconds up to 6500 rpms.put in neutral, the rpms increased to 7000 rpms.i turned the car off.i told our local nissan dealership that i would not drive the car until this dangerous problem was diagnosed and fixed.on the nissan hotline (1-800-nissan-1), the customer relations representatives told me: (1) their technical services department was unfamiliar with this problem (nissan later said that, although they had received customer complaints, they had never been able to replicate the problem in a shop); and (2) if the problem could not be "replicated" in shop, then, in effect, "there was no problem" and no remedy.i went online and found that s.u.a. Is a major problem nationally.i could not drive this car, could not allow a family member to drive this car, and could not sell the car.after almost six weeks without my car, i traded it back to the local dealership at considerable loss with the understanding that they would continue to try to replicate the problem and would not re-sell the vehicle to an uninformed consumer. I have 35 years of solid driving experience.there is no possibility of driver error here.the public needs your help. The contact owns a 2000 nissan altima.the contact stated that the vehicle automatically accelerates when idle and he must slam on the brake pedal to keep the vehicle from moving.the failure occurs at random.the current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 32,000.

While feet was on brakes vehicle accelerated at a high speed, causing an accident. Resulting indriverandpassenger injuries.

When driving, gauges suddenly stop working.the tachometer, engine temperature gauge, fuel gauge freeze in place.the speedometer registers the max and the digital odometer went to zero.

Vehicle started to lurch foward while pulling into a parking space. Vehicle taken to a dealer, and dealer was unable to locatecause of problem. Consumer stated the throttle sensor was replaced the first time the incident happened.

Consumer was approaching a red lightapplied brakes, and vehicle suddenly accelerated at a high rate of speed while foot was on brakes, causing vehicle to hit tree/ rocks, and ran into a canal. Upon impact, airbags deployed, and consumer unbuckled seatbelt. Also, jumped into canal frompassenger's side because driver side door was stuck.

Throttle assembly continues to fall apart while driving vehicle, disengaging the throttle and rendering the vehicle helpless and unable to accelerate at all.

Consumer has to pump gas pedal togetvehicle started. Consumer sometimes has to leave someone in vehicle to keep it running.vehicle is too new to be doing this.dealer can't find anything wrong wiht it.

The accelerator connecting rod came off while driving.upon inspection i noticed the socket was cracked.

I have a manual transmission.the engine idle becomes erratic at times, sometimes when you start it the idle will go up and down from 1000 to 2100 continuously.most of the time the idle remains high when you push in the clutch around 1600rpm until you come to a complete stop. Other time the idle goes very low near 400 rpm almost to a stall condition.nissan says its normal.i have seen this same complaint not only with the altima but with the nissan frontier 2.4l with manual as well (same engine as the altima).

While traveling 15-20 mphvehicle suddenly accelerated up to 50 mph, even after shifting into reverse, vehicle continued to accelerate up to 50 mph until vehicle struck another vehicle.dealer inspectedvehicle, and was unable to locate the problem. Please feel free to provide any further details.

Window on driver's side is failing to go up once it goes down.have to work the switch number of time to get the window back up.have had to leave the window down at times until i tried to get it to come up later.nothing have been done at present to correct the problem.

Driver's power window switch failed. I have spoken to at least 3 dozen other nissan altima owners who have all reported this exact same problem (i posted a message to an internet message board).

Electric door window switch went out had to replace it myself cant keep car alligned wears out tires quickit has 63000 miles on it &has had 5sets of tires put on all the way around.

The regulator in the window has went out.i contacted my dealer and he said that was very common in my type of vehicle and he is suprised that it hasn't already been recalled.i would like to know if other complaints have been filed concerning the driver side window motor/regulator.

I was driving down the road on 18 jul 2004 and all of a sudden i heard a crash and the glass blew down into the shade protector.

Sunroof glass shattered without any warningwarning while driving.

Windshield has cracked three times. Dealer has replaced the windshield.

All windows had a film on them that made vision very poor at night and also when raining.vehicle is veryunsafe.dealer replaced windshield and and stated '' other windows aren't used that much''. Dealer also stated" manufacturermust take care of rest of windows".maufacturer refuses to do so and does not return phone calls. Nissan acceptance corporation stated that nissan told them there is nothing wrong with this car and the windows are just fine. Does anybody care.
