The contact owned a 1999 nissan altima. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle that made a sharp left turn across the contact's lane. The front driver and passenger air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries that later required medical attention. The vehicle was totaled and towed to a tow yard. The contact called dartmouth nissan at 508-996-3200 (located at 483 state rd, north dartmouth, ma 02747) and was informed of an unknown air bag recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the dealer was aware of the recall. The contact's attorney took over further interaction with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000. The vin was not provided.
(1) i turned left into a parking from sitting still in a turn lane. Approx. 3 car lengths into this parking lot both of the front air bags deployed in my automobile. There was no impact. The police were notified and their response was that because there was no vehicle damage etc. There wasn't anything for them to do. They then referred me to this site to fill out a complaint. (2) all three occupants had to be seen in the er. (3) nissan was contacted; they sent out a vehicle inspector and then nissan issued a letter stating that because they could not find any defaulted parts they would not assist in the repairs or hospital costs. Personal automotive insurance covered the incident. As far as i know, all parts have been replaced to the tune of $4,000.00 just to repair the automobile.
The vehicle was hit on the passenger side and the air bags did not deploy, also the seat belt failed to retract, which resulted in injuries.
Airbag light blinks on and off.thedealer says it is not under warranty.
When we were taught how to drive we were told to place our hands at the 10 and 2 o'clock position on the steering wheel. If that is where your hands are at the deployment of an airbag it throws your left arm against the windshield and it's frame which results in broken arms and wrists. I think there should be a warning for this.
While driving forty miles per hour this vehicle rear ended by another vehicle. The front end was totally smashed, butneither air bag deployed.dealer has been contaced. Driver suffered a brused chest, and severe headaches.

To whom it may concern:i was in a terrible car accicent on 11/1/00.neither airbag deployed and i had damage on all four sides of the vehicle.the worst of the damage was in the front ... Dt*: the contact stated that both of the vehicle's front airbags did not deploy in a crash.the vehicle was struck head on by another vehicle who crossed an intersection at 35 mph.there was pre-impact braking prior to the frontal impact.the occupants were wearing seat belts, and the airbag warning light was illuminated prior to the crash.the vehicle was towed to a tow yard who determined that the vehicle was totaled.the manufacturer was contacted on 07/26/06 and a complaint was filed.the vehicle will be inspected by the contact's insurance agency on 07/28/06.there are pictures and a police report available.

Car caught fire while it was parked.fire dept stated it seemed like an electrical fire because of the way the front end burned.the rest of the car was intact, with no evidence of foul play.
My altima idles very rough, which feels as if it were about to stall.it shakes the whole car and is slow and shaking during acceleration.the check engine light came on as a misfire in cyl #4.on the internet, everyone has the same problem as the intake manifold gasket.i read this was a design flaw by nissan and that they acknowledged it, but refuse to fix it.i now have to pay a repair shop to fix nissan's problem.
My 99 nissan altima gxe is stalling when stopping for red lights and stop signs. It does not happen consistently and i never know when it is going to happen. I am scared that it will happen and that someone may hit me from behind. I have had it at the local dealership 3 days this week and still has not been fixed.

Nissan 98-2001 altima i own a 99 nissan altimawhich has had check engine light problem for approx 2 yrs .done research and found very common for intake manifold gasket to leak ...please look at car complaints.com...i have been smellingfumes inside car at times and now i know that this is a serious problem and it should be nissans for defective engineering . I am having mine replaced but have read of many going again and a third ...nissan should be held accountable for this flaw ..thankyou ...having to pay for there flaw makes me angry ..

Exhaust fumes come in through car during all settings of heat, recylcled air, defroster.smells like rotten eggs, sewage, exhaust, gas.have been to dealer twice and talked to nissan and bbb auto line without satisfactory resolution.i have used a higher octane gas as the dealer recommended and it doesn't help.service manager said nissan knows there's a problem but doesn't know how to fix it.nissan denies there is a problem.

The contact owns a 1999 nissan altima.the contact took his vehicle to the dealer to be repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 07v435000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap).a technician stated that it would only take several hours for the repair.the following day he called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not repaired.the contact is still waiting to receive possession of the vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 116,000.
Fuel filler problem: the vehicle (1999 nissan altima) will only take a small amount of fuel at a time (length of filler neck) and then pump shuts off as the fuel overflows and drains into tank. It is also impossible to completely fill the tank; it only wants to holds approximately 3/4 of its capacity. This is not only annoying, but a safety concern because fuel spills onto the vehicle and ground since there is no fuel filler butterfly valve at the top of the neck.
Keep having trouble smelling gas. Inside the car and fuel pump and the exhaust gas and i have small children it keeps messing with their asthma spending to much money keep getting it fixed.

When the consumer made a left or right turn, the front axle made a loud popping noise.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the axle was wearing out.
I entered the freeway, and a car tried to come into my lane so i moved to the right then my car began to swerve from left to right then i began to spin and i ended up facing the opposite direction of the traffic. Both the front and back axles broke and the tires are bent .
The vehicle was hit on the passenger side and the air bags did not deploy, also the seat belt failed to retract, which resulted in injuries.
The driver seatbelt anchor (the part that the belt buckles into) broke on the date given above.the belt does not lock into the anchor, therefore making the belt useless.i have to buckle into the passenger anchor, which not only renders my passenger seat obsolete, but it is very uncomfortable (the belt crosses my neck) and not to mention unsafe.i contacted peachtree nissan in chamblee, ga immediately.don in service told me he would place an order immediately for the belt.he called me a week later and informed me that the belt was on backorder with the manufacturer and that no one had it in stock.i kept in touch with don weekly.finally, on the 23rd of february, i spoke with the manager of the parts dept.after researching the matter, he informed me that the buckle should arrive at the end of february/early march and that it was bumped up to super urgent status (they would fly it in v/s regular mail.)today is the 9th of march and my belt still has not arrived.i feel that a safety item such as seatbelts should always be in stock.i feel very unsafe having to buckle into the passenger side anchor, but that is my only choice since nissan would not give me a loaner car until mine was fixed.please contact me to let me know if anything can be done about this situation.

The brakes consistently squeal and now the brake pedal deploys to the floor; nissan of smithfield notified.car brought in for inspection, oil changes, etc.service department does not want to hear that these brakes squeal and i feel something is wrong with them.there have been numerous complaints in the newspaper regarding this year, make and model car regarding brakes.there is something definitely wrong; i respectfully request that an investigation be made regarding the brake systems, the squealing and other relative safety factors of the nissan altima 1999 braking system. I have been having a "squealing" brake for the past couple of months.throughout the entire day,my brakes would make a shrilly noise whenever i braked (at least 4 or 5 times throughout the day). I took my car to the mechanics and had a brake inspection done.the mechanic said my brakes are brand new...so i went to the nissan dealer in cerritos. They informed me of a memo that nissan had sent out to its dealers regarding brake noise, claiming that it was "normal" to have some noise. In any case,i feel that a 6 month old car should have no noise coming from anywhere, considering that i have followed the complete warranty instructions in maintaining my car. In addition,the mechanic that inspected my brakes also told me that he, too, had an altima; and that his brakes started making noise since 5,000 miles.if there are any reports or any news in regards to nissan brakes, please contact me. My altima 1999 had have a brake problem. Sometime last year, when i drove above 35 mph and stepped on brake, the steering wheel shook. I brought it to brown's fairfax nissan where i bought the vehicle to have it checked. I was told that i stepped on the brakes so hard, therefore the rotors were damaged. Unfortunately, drivers have to make stops to avoid accidents. I was not happy with the explaination of the technician at the dealership. It does not make any sense that i have to fix the brakes if i make a quick stop to avoid accident. On the other hand i needed to fix my car. I had to take my car to a shop in falls church to fix the rotors because the estimate to fix the rotors at the dealership was so expensive. The brakes were fine after the mechanic fixed them. However, the problem has come back last month. I am writing this report to ask investigators to look at the problem.
When the car has a panic stop the right rear brakes lock up,but not the others.the car just doesn't stop fast.took the car to the dealer and they said the brakes are normal and adjusted correctly.the brakes feel fine except in a panic stop.
When consumer comes to a stop brakes will squeak.dealer foundthe rear brakes to be the problem. Vehicle is still under warranty.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the rear subframe rusted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 160,000.

The car is extremely unstable in the rain. I have replaced the original tires with a better quality but that has not helped. Specifically, the car fish tails easily both during braking and/or turning in wet weather. This is not a driver related issue. I am a 47 year old accident free driver. I am trading the car because i do not believe that it is safe. In dry conditions the car is fine. I am extremely disappoined with t his performance and have found 2 others altima owners who report the same problem. In florida we receive a lot of summer rain.

Tires are warrantied for 80,000 miles. We have traveled less than 1/2 of that and the tires did not pass state inspection.when we contacted firestone they had sent a memo to their dealers stating that after april 2000, the affinity original equipmenttires would no longer be warranteed to 80,000 but only 50,000 miles. The affinity purchased in their stores would retain the 80,000 mile warranty. We as owners were never notified if we had we would have taken action prior to april!we also have a 98 altima with the same tire problems at approximately the same milage point, for which i will fill a seperate report.( dot number: tire size: p195/65r15 )

Upon routine inspection of the tires, it was noted that there is a crack running around the circumfrance of all four tires where the tread meets the sidewall.this is on all four tires.our dealer has recommended that we replace the tires before warm weather starts.we decided to investigate online to see if there was a recall on these tires.there is no recall, but there are numerous complaints listed for these firestone affinity tires for tread separation.i feel there must be a manufacturing problem with these tires.thank you for your help.
After noticing the tire was low in pressure i proceeded to a tire repair facility.after inspecting the tire and finding a small nail the repairman noticed a split on the inside of the tire where the belts are joined together.the repairman said he could not put the tire on the car due to safety reasons.i purchased a new tire to be on my way.after taking the tire to a general tire dealer it was determined that the defect was a factory process defect.i contacted general tire (file #75994) however the company would only agree to fund half of another tire.i did not want another tire.i am concerned that this defect may affect other tires, however, every tire would have to be removed from the mounting to inspect the inside of the tire.i would like general tire to refund my purchase price for the new tire i was forced to purchase due to the nature of the defect. Sudden acceleration.
Consumer states that when starting the vehicle, it will jump forward a few inches, the problem is an intermittent problem. Contacted dealer and the dealer cannot find the problem.nlmjlg

The contact was advised by an independent mechanic that the throttle linkage had fractured from the vehicle. The mechanic was able to reconnect the linkage. The vin was not available. As driver applied brakes, car suddenly accelerated while foot was still on brakes. During this acceleration, the car made a "roaring" noise and the number of engine revolutions increased.this acceleration caused the driver to hit a stopped school bus in front of him.

The sway bar doesn't stabilize the vehicle.when driving the vehicle it bounces sideways, there noise when going over bumps (possible bent strut), and bounces sideways.the rear seat behind the driver collapsed upon the impact of the accident.the cruise control didn't appear to cancel when the vehicle was outof control.the cruise control is fine when driving straight, but if the vehicle swerves, the vehicle goes out of control.the antenna squeaked-was greased, the wipers are wrong-replaced, and the vehicle made a humming noise when accelerated.scc
Dt*: the contact stated the driver side sun visor broke when it was pulled down for use. The visor now blocks the contacts field of vision when driving. The dealer was contacted by phone and suggested replacing the visor to remedy the problem. The contact made an attempt to locate a replacement visor from a wrecked vehicle and discovered they all had the same problem.
We own 1998and 1999 nissan altima. Both altima sunvisors ( passenger and driver side)keep falling down while driving causing safety issues. We changed visors two times and still falling down.

Broken coil and front suspension exploded also causing tire to flatten sounded like a gunshot going off aaa mechanic determined if i was driving at time of inciderdent would have been killed please make this a recallso i can get it fixed at no cost to me my car is my survival car was in stationary mode
