The left rear tail lights are leaking i had the repaired at the nissan dealership, 2 weeks later they started to leak again. The trunk is rusted at the bottom and the dealer says there is no guarantee on the work, but after looking on the internet and talking to other people i am not the only one with this problem for 97 nissan altimas.

Owner was drivimg his 1997 nissan altima se on the center lane along meadowbrook parkway, long island, ny. The bmw 7.4 on the right side (first lane) merged into the center lane and made a sudden brake. Owner of the nissan altima applied a sudden brake but because of the short distance in between two cars, the altima hit the bmw on the rear. Both cars were traveling at approximately 40-45 miles per hour. Both the driver and passenger airbags were not deploy. The passenger, who is 8 month preagnant, required to be hospitalized for two days.i would like to nissan company to carefully investigate on what happened why the airbags were not deployed during the collision.

On july 07 1999, i was pulling out from a side street onto a two lane road. As i was completing my turn, an suv had crossed the solid yellow line in attempt to go around me in the wrong lane. As a result, my 1997 nissan altima was hit in the front left (nearly head on) at a high rate of speed. Estimated at 40-50 mph. The vehicle had approximately $9,000 damage to the front end. Neither driver side or passenger side airbags deployed. I sustained a cervical myofascial (whiplash) injury that still has not resolved, and thank god my children were not injured badly. The auto body technician and insurance adjuster (usaa) stated that without a doubt, the airbags were defective and absolutely should have deployed. Anevaluation of the airbags is pending.
While traveling at 60 mph, consumer states vehicle was involved in a frontal collision with an 18 wheeler.consumer states none of the four airbags deployed. All four passengers were injured.please provide any further information.

On 10-12-04 my daughter was involved in an accident, where she had failed to stop quick enough at a red light.there where three cars ahead of her at the red light.she was going approx. 10 miles per hour and hit the car in front of her which lead a chain reaction involving the other two cars.the air bags deployed and she lost control of the car.she was rushed to the hospital via ambulance.she was treated and released.there was not damage to her car and little damage to the the others cars.the police at the scene questioned why the air bags deployed at such a low speed. My concern and question are the same.why would the air bags deploy at such a low speed and perhaps cause more trauma and injury.the insurance companies will be investigating this as well.

My son was in a head on crash in my vehicle. He was traveling approximately 30 mph when he hit the back of another car. His air bags did not deploy nor did his seatbelt lock. His chin hit the steering wheel. His head and hand both went into the windshield which is cracked. He was driving a 1997 nissan altima. I also have photos of the car and the windshield.

It seems as though a defect must be present in the motor/regulator of the nissan altima '97.i am replacing it annually!!!!!!!!!.

Car bucks at all speeds, all gears, all weather conditions.has been examined by lang's auto (r5674) and bob sharp nissan in wilton, ct.neither could idenitify problem on computer output, but multiple mechanics could feel bucking.bucking is significant and jars persons in the car.nissan dealer had the car for three weeks and finally gave it back reporting they could not idenitify problem or fix it.suggested premium gas and dry gas which we have done and it has not helped.this has been a problem for the last several months.we have two small children and can not take them in that car as they would be jarred.we have no additional recourse with dealer as original dealer went out of business and the one we went to can not fix and will not continue to try.car is driven approximately 80/ weekday for commuting purposes and on weekends.the bucking does not seem tied to any other event (gears, speeds, etc.)

While slowing down & applied brakes at a stop sign, the car instead suddenly accelerated crossing four lanes of traffic and ultimately slamming into a tree.
My 97 nissan altima(milelage: 66k) runs perfectly expect that occasionally once i press the brake tightly and the car stop totally,the car accelerates suddently and rush forward, i have to repress the brake very quickly to stop it again.since this january it happened twice. The left arm rest collapsed twice and nissan replaced it the first time gratis.due to the hole on the arm rest i developed cubital tunnel syndrome of the left elbow resulting in surgery.nissan claims they have had no other similar complaints and it is not a "design/production" defect but excessive wear on my part even though the first occurance happened when the car had about 21,000 miles.

When making turns at low speeds vehicle began to skid on wet slick roads, went out of control. Once crashed into curb, causing injury and front end damage. Narrowly avoided collision with other vehicles on two other occasions. Dealer cannot find problem.
Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the right front coil spring fractured and penetrated the inner sidewall of the right front tire without warning.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop who determined both front coil springs were extremely corroded.the front coil springs were replaced.the vehicle was exposed to excessive road salts and extreme winter weather.the manufacturer was contacted.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle had a tire rotation performed, the tire service dealer determined the rubber boots on the axle spindle had deteriorated.the vehicle was seen by an authorized dealer who confirmed the problem.the dealer replaced the rubber boots on the axle spindle and attributed the deterioration to the heat and humidity.

Co and the referred me to a dealer.he took one look and said that the top coat was peeling off the paint all the way down to the sanding and it was not covered by my ins.i have had car much older then this one and this has never happened before, their mustbe a defect in this paint, it is completely peeling off and it happened almost overnight.i have taken very good care of this car, getting it washed, waxed & polished.i would appreciate some type of compensation on this problem and a response from nissan mfg.

I would like to complain that car manufacturers are getting away with installing straight cam bolts on the new cars, which force you to purchase adjustable cam bolts when thecar needs alignment.it has ruined two sets of tires before a mechanic finally told me what was needed and than it was over $300 for the cam bolts to be installed.this is an unfair parts practice by the manufacturers.no one was hurt but my tires were in danger of tread separation because of this.
I had a severe problem moving the transmission from park to drive.the shift box is positioned directly under the drink holder. The nissan repair department looked at the soda residue and told me that i would have to replace the shift box for $350.i refused and they made an unauthorized charge to my credit card for $40. I sprayed a drop of cleaner and the shift has worked flawlessly ever since. Nissan stole the $40.
Car cam shaft broke took it to dealer to be repaired they said that engine needs to be replaced. I asked what caused the cam shaft to break they said i havent been getting oil changes and did not take care of the car. Which is not the case. I called dealership and spoke with service manager and explained to him that i had all my services done with them he looked up information and agreed that i did have all service maintence done at their service department.i have all of the invoices to prove this.i feel that due to improper maintenance neglect on their behalf is the reason this happened.they replaced the engine with a used engine which has 74,ooo miles which means this engine has more miles than the original engine.the total cost at my expense is 2739.84.this used engine carries a 90 days warranty on parts only.my complaint is that i purchased this 1997 nissan altima gxe which only had 39513 miles.the current mileage on this vehicle is 64,878.i feel i should not have to pay the repairs due to their improper maintenance.

The passenger's side exterior power mirror is a swing-away or break away mirror that shbould rotate on ahinge or flange when applying pressure to outside edge of mirror. When mirror housing came into contact with another object at idle speed in drive, it broke off at flane/hinge rather than rotate towards the vehicle.

While taking a right turn from a stop, the passenger side windshield wiper failed to actuate. Luckily i was only a few miles from my home and the driver's side still worked in the heavy rain. After further inspection i found the link assembly that connects the left wiper to the right one was dislodged. The plastic "snap" knuckle and metal ball joint were worn and came apart thus causing the right wiper to not move. I replaced the wiper actuating linkages and motor assembly.while at the parts counter at decormier nissan, i noticed two other mechanics obtaining the same partsfor the same problem on cars in their service department. The parts attendant says they keep these items in stock because of their high demand.i am sending this to you because of the potential dangers involved if this failure had occurred on the highway at a high rate of speed.dt
