When driving the seatbelt airbag light is flashing, want go off, even if just sitting still with the car crank, the airbag light is flashing.

My vehicle has only 12,400 miles, and the passenger air bag light will not go off and the airbag light in the dash keeps blinking. Millions of nissan vehicles have had the same problem. I want my nissan dealership, where i purchased this vehicle ( mā€™lady in crystal lake, il ), to fix this at no cost to me.

Passenger airbag sensor came on and shows the passenger air bag is off.the airbag light is flashing as well with no warning at all.just starting the car, the passenger airbag light came on and said air bag off and flashing light on dash.passenger airbag won't turn back on and doesn't work putting passengers in great danger.

Passenger airbags fail to recognize me (5'6" 118lbs)the sensors have been unreliable since purchase but now never see me.nissan claims 120lb cut off is government standard. Refuses to acknowledge issue.

The passenger side air bag light stayed on and i took it to the dealer.they said the seat cushion had to be replaced because it was the air bag sensor that was faulty.it cost me over $2100 dollars out of pocket.that was after nissan corp. Agreed to pay $500 towards the cost.i might add that the passenger seat was still in like new condition.

I have two issues, first my passenger seat air bag indicator light is occassionally turned off even though the seat is occupied.i am told by the dealership to have the passenger move around to have the seat belt appropriately set.i am unsure if this will truely resolve the issue. I noted many of the same issues on the internet.my second issues relates to the driver side air bag that did not activate when i was severly rear ended.my car also hit the car in front of me.it was a major hit as i incurred in excess of $10,000.00 in damages.

On monday 9/15/14 i attempted to start my car like i had done earlier in the day without any problems. When i went to push my start button, i noticed that nothing had happened at all except the illumination of a key lock light. After checking the gas, battery, and fuses, i did not know what to do about this issue. Today is 9/17/14 and when i attempt to start my car i have to depress the start button 7-10 times before it actually starts the car. I called a nearby nissan dealership they said it probably had a steering lock failure, which is a common occurrence in the 2009-2010 370z.

This is a very common problem found in 2009 and 2010 nissan 370z vehicles.the steering locking unit fails at a premature rate and the car will suddenly not start without warning.this happened to me in a valet parking structure without any warning or indication.many, many individuals are being cheated without a recall on this highly defective unit.the dealership is looking to charge $1,200 for a replacement.nissan has already ordered a recall for their nissan gtr's for the same exact issue, but for some reason refuse to acknowledge the same problem of the same part with their 370z line.please nhtsa, listen to the hundreds of individuals with the same problem and order a recall and reimbursement for the 370z steering locking unit failures.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My car will not start due to the well-known yellow key light problem. I had it towed to the shop and i am afraid that the repair bill will be very expensive. Please make a recall for this obvious defect. It is very cold right now and could have been a real danger due to the cold weather.

I had the infamous "steering lock failure." it has yet to become a recall and recognized as a fault by nissan, yet the fix is $700+. I got in my car and attempted to turn my car on only to get 0 response, whatsoever. After running through the manual and seeing there were only two options if the "key light" stayed on, i changed the battery in the key fob. That wasn't the issue, which then meant the only option was the steering lock failure. I now have to get my car towed and cough up $700+ at random (since it chooses when it's going to die). This is absolutely ridiculous. Mind you, i was under the mileage warranty (21k, not 35) but i get screwed because the year. This will be the last nissan i ever buy.

In the 2009 and 2010 model years of this car (and other nissan vehicles), the steering wheel lock assembly is known to randomly fail, leaving the car unable to start.there is no recall or tsb for this as of yet, and it has affected several nissan vehicles including the gtr.revisions a and b of the steering wheel lock assembly are well known to fail, and revision c is also known to fail however there are fewer occurrences.this has left me stranded and unable to get to work, and nissan will straight up refuse to fix the problem for less than $1000.

Steering lock solenoid failed at 38120 miles (2120 miles outside electrical warranty) yellow "key" warning light on dash only illuminated the morning off failure. Went to leave work car would not start due to steering lock solenoid failure. Had to have vehicle flat bedded to dealership at the cost of $121.10. Thank god this didn't fail while driving. This is a well know issue within the online forums / community. I'm currently requesting a full reimbursement from nissan motor corp for the repair cost of $887.37 plus the tow bill. I have recently returned to the online forums and have read over 25 pages of failures with the nissan 370z. I also heard of this issue on nissan gtr and maxima vehicles.

This is to rectify the complaint i submitted yesterday related to the steering lock unit failing. I did have the problem (no change there) and filed complaint #10614959 after doing the initial research and reading everywhere (including here) that nissan's recall did not cover my model year (2009), being that mine is not a gtr. After i had come to terms with having to pay for this out of pocket, i called the dealer in fort lauderdale, and he (voluntarily) said that recalls are vin specific and that mine was covered (what a relief). I also talked with nissan usa later and they told me that it is not a recall but that they have extended the warranty on that particular piece of equipment. I am not sure, but i think the difference is that if the program is an extended warranty, you have to wait until you have the issue whereas a recall you can take it in before (or after). Whichever it is, those who had this problem early on and had to pay out of pocket may want to re-check with nissan to see if they can get reimbursed. Maybe nissan extended the initial recall or offered the extended warranty long after some people had the problem and got missed in the process. If they ever sent me a note about this in the mail, i probably mistook it for junk mail and threw it out. In my case at least, nissan did right by me after i had the problem. When i called (nissan usa) and asked about the towing, the rep said the program did not specifically say either way, but they agreed to reimburse me for it. Anyway, good luck with all of this.

My vehicle is equipped with an electronic steering column lock (escl) that locks the steering wheel when the vehicle is parked and turned off to help prevent theft. On some vehicles, due to a manufacturing irregularity, the escl may malfunction after the vehicle has been locked and could prevent the engine from starting. This condition, should it occur, will only occur when attempting to start the vehicle, which happened with my nissan 370z yesterday. Thank god i wasn;t stranded in the middle of nowhere. And luckily this did not happen in the middle of an intersection or other busy road. I have read that nissan has already recalled this part for their 2009-10 nissan altima, altima coupe, altima hybrid, and maxima vehicles but have not read about including their 2009-10 nissan 370z models. Multiple 370z forums confirm that the 2009-10 370z models have the same issues as the recalled nissan models. This needs to be corrected. 2009-10 nissan 370z customers shouldn't have to pay for the new part and labor just like nissan altima, altima coupe, altima hybrid, and maxima customers don't have to.

Steering locking unit (part: 48700-jf00a) failed. Note, there are revision models of this part 48700-jf00b, 48700-jf00c, 48700-jf00d, and 48700-jf00e -- all eventually fail. This part begins to fail as early as just a few thousand miles on the car's odometer. This is a common issue with nissan 370z 2009-2011 models. Once this happens the car is stranded as the starter is disabled. The car must then be towed to a dealership for repair. Repair costs average between $1,100 and $2,000.

Lock set - steering models jf00a,jf00b and jf00c are faulty. Recall was done on nissan gt-r for the faulty part. The same part is in the 2009-11 370z and suffers the same defects but was not included in the recall. Car will not start with a faulty lock set - steering. Part is known to be defective as indicated by the recall from nissan (campaign id# p0309) for the identical part in the 2009 gt-r.nissan must recall this faulty part in the 370z and reimburse customers who have paid for costly repairs and/or replacement parts due to a part know to nissan (as evidenced by the gt-r recall) to be faulty.

After work, tried starting my 370z and it would not start, leaving me stranded. Tried other key fob, same issue. Had car towed to the nissan dealer who identified the issue as steering lock failure: $750 part +$50 overnight + $100 labor + tax = $960 total cost.nissan has replaced the part on the 2009 gt-r but apparently is doing nothing for the z owners with same issue. Nissan will not cover the part since i am 18000 miles over warranty, yet many owners have had same failure/repair as evidenced by the forums online. I contacted nissan consumer affairs at 1800nissan1 and have started a "case" but do not expect resolution.they agreed to reimburse for a rental car up to 2 days $70 max.meanwhile they will send a rep to review my car's diagnosis prior to instructing the dealer to complete repairs within the next 2 days. I find it interesting perusing all the other reported incidents on your site, there are quite a few reported in the month of october, 2012.there needs to be an official recall of this faulty expensive part in the 370z.

Steering wheel /ignition system electronics switch failure ,causing vehicle and all electric accessory systems on vehicle to not function.

I parked to get gas and when i went to start my vehicle, it did nothing. Checked battery and everything else to my knowledge then had it towed to my local dealership. The dealership diagnosed the problem as the "steering wheel lock has gone bad." towing cost was $65 and total cost of repair was $1198.50. My warranty ended in october of 2012, so this was paid out of pocket. I was without a vehicle for 4 days. It happened without warning and i was stranded at the gas station. If your steering lock control unit is a "reva" or "revb", it is jut a matter of time before yours fails. Nissan needs to do something about this like they did with the nissan gtr.

Car won't start. Steering locking mechanism failed.

Parked my car at the store came pushed the start nothing. Changed the battery on the intelligent tried to start wouldn't start inserted the key into key slot nothing happened.

I purchased my first nissan, a 2009 370z, in 2018. I went to start my car and it wouldnot start, after reading various forums on the internet i found the issue with the 370z is well documented to the escl (electronic steering column lock) issue.there is no warning to this occurring; i drove my car to the store and then home, an hour later went to start to the car and it would not start.the only lead i had was the intelligent key warning light, that when referenced in the owner's manual states this will lock the steering column and prevent the car from starting. This is usually triggered from an unregistered key but my keys were registered and had worked with the car from the time i bought it. The car has had this module changed out for parts are dated, and the current module is dated from 2012, after the car was released in 2009.i am not faced with replacing this part to get my 370z to start, i have to have the car towed to the nissan shop and was told it will be about $1100 to fix.it is well documented that the escl that nissan uses is malfunctioning. The internet is full of stories of people stranded. Nissan claims to have fixed this issue but clearly they have not.currently nissan is recalling the 2009 altima due to a defective escl and repair them for free. However, if you had bought a 2009 370z, the same year as the altima, you must pay for the defect.the escl that has to be installed is part # 48700-9n00b, which is the sixth (6) part number for the escl.

Parked car while getting lunch, tried to restart car afterwards and ignition wouldn't cycle (wont go to acc or on, stays at lock). Indicator light implied keyfob needed to be inserted into the slot. After doing so, still would not start. Replaced keyfob battery, jumped the car; none worked. Eventually had to be towed to local dealer. Steering lock unit was determined to have failed. Unlike most reported failures, this one failed with the steering wheel unlocked (mechanism never engaged), however it would still not start. Parts came in at $719 and labor at $259. Had i been made aware of these costs before the work was done, as i requested in a voicemail left for the dealer, i would never have agreed and would have done it myself. Although this event may not occur while the vehicle is in motion, posing an immediate and apparent safety issue, it did result in being stranded in 10degree winter weather. Fortunately, this occurred in the middle of the day with people in the vicinity to help and a cell phone charged. Had it happened 12hrs later and with a dead cellphone, it would pose a considerable safety issue in sub10 degree weather. This is a well known issue, known by nissan, and seems to have been addressed for the gt-r's under ntb10-025 issued 3/18/10. Yet, for some reason, it has not yet been corrected for the 370z. According to service department at dealership where this work was performed, there were too many instances of this occurrence in their system to begin counting them all when i requested that information for reporting purposes.for others information, exact part number on the sticker of the replaced unit is as follows:487009n00a-b1-01t 4601101ce08 m0131.03.09.

Attempted to start car using the push button.the car wouldn't start.had aaa come out to test the battery.the battery was good.i towed to the dealership.they said it had a steering lock failure which cost $1100 to repair.it took a day to order the part.the mileage was 22,114.

The 370z uses a keyless ignition system.the system failed and i am no longer able to start the car.i am being told by the dealer that it is the electronic steering lock system.there are many many other 2009-2010 370z owners that are experiencing this same issue at aprox 30-40k miles.this appears to be a manufacturer defect.

I drove my 2009 nissan 370z to work in the morning and when i went to start my car at lunch... Nothing. It was just dead. All of the lights worked, alarm, power seats, name it. But when you went to start, nothing. Turns out the steering wheel lock broke. The fact that this is such a common occurrence, a simple 30 second internet search can diagnose the problem, frustrates me. How come it was taken care of in the more expensive models (the gtr's), but it wasn't recalled for the 2009/10 370z's? they've replaced the problem part in the 2012's, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they've left thousands of people stranded and have done nothing about it. I lucked out because i bought an extended warranty, but what about the people who have to pay out of pocket? the cost for the repairs is over a $1000, with the part itself in the hundreds. This is ridiculous and needs to be addressed.

Engine power cuts out randomly. Error code p0011 given. All mechanical components associated with code p0011 per nissan have been replaced. Problem still persists. Apparently, this is not an uncommon problem with the early 2009 370z. To date, nissan has not issued a recall for this problem.

Attempted to start vehicle. Keyless entry system not working. Vehicle would not start. Had car flat bed towed to nissan. They said that it was the steering lock. There have been multiple complaints from consumers who own 2009-early 2010 nissan 370z. This part should be recalled by nissan since it prevents starting the car, thereby leaving you stranded. Nissan had a recall on the gtr's but not the 370z.this is what happens when you try to start the car. Without warning, the electric lock fails to unlock, sending error message to the bcm. The car will not start in this case and will flash the intelligent key warning in the cluster.nissan is well aware of the faulty locks they installed and choose to ignore it. They stopped using these locks( revb, revc etc) on the 2012 z's entirely.

Attempted to start car using the push button.the car wouldn't start.had aaa come out to test the battery.the battery was good.i towed to the dealership.they said it had a steering lock failure which cost $1100 to repair.it took a day to order the part.the mileage was 22,114.the service tech said he saw a lot of altimas come in with this problem.

Steering lock solenoid failure at 38.5k 1,500miles after 36k warranty.after dealership played parts changer for 3 weeks they finally worked up to the steering lock solenoid.steering lock assm. $542 - $622- #48700-jf00b production date: 2008.10-2009.08 - #48700-jf00c production date: 2009.08-2009.10- #48700-jf00c production date: 2009.10-2010.09- #48700-jf00d production date: 2010.09- current (you want this one "d")obviously this part has gone through revisions.total repair $837.00 - 3 weeks in the shop. Had to have car towed to dealer after the "yellow" key light showed up. This part has failed on many nissan models with this type of electronic steering wheel lock.this needs to be a recall and anyone who paid to have it fixed needs to be reimbursed.a class action lawsuit need to be filed.

Steering wheel lock has failed, rendering car unable to be started.

Car will not start, had to be towed to nissan, my 2009 370z had a electric steering lock problem. Part with labor will be around $1000. There have been several complaints on this same issue and should have been recalled by now!! will be looking further into this problem nissan should be at fault 100%.

My 370z will start up fine sometimes but most times i have to it the start button 7-10 times before it cranks. When i push the button all lights on dash come and it makes clicking sounds but just won't start the vehicle. I had my steering lock mechanism replaced 6 months ago because there was a recall but the problem still persist. I have taken it to the dealership but no one can give me a solid answer.

Car won't start, intelligent "key" light is on in the dash.ignition button has the "lock" lit up.headlights, dome lights, and doors unlock without problem.car just won't start.tried spare fob key, and placed into fob part, still won't start.read on forums, common problem amongst early 370z, ipdm or steering lock assembly faulty.being replaced under recall for gtr but not the 370z.module has been replace on newer 370zs.

Steering wheel lock unit failed in lock position disabling vehicle. Out of warranty replacement required. Research indicated that this part is based on a faulty design that has subsequently been removed from later model years. Look at all the complaints - this is clearly a faulty part and nissan should recall all vehicles with this part. The car had to be towed and the cost to repair was close to $1,000.00.i will not consider another nissan purchase unless this issue is addressed.

The vehicle in question, failed to start after a routine stop. A faulty steering lock control unit (slcu)resulting in the steering wheel failing to disengage from the locked position thus preventing the push button ignition system from starting the engine. The vehicle was able to be put in neutral, but only after accessing a compartmented shift lock switch. Unfortunately, with the steering wheel being locked, the vehicle could only be pushed forward or back and not turned. This proved to be a problem as the tow truck driver was forced to "drag" the vehicle to a better position in order to be loaded onto the flat bed. The dealership confirmed that the slcu was the single point of failure and acknowledged that this was a known issue in the 2009 and 2010 model years. Nissan failed to cover the repair costs because of the age of the vehicle, despise having under 20k miles.

Same problem as everyone else is reporting about vehicle not starting because the smart key push button ignition is stuck in the lock position. I think they call it steering wheel system fail.apparently nissan has known about this for a long time, has recalled newer models but is not willing to recall the 2009s. So the question is, how many people need to have this problem before a mandatory recall is imposed? this is ridiculous. Despite the problem being known, there is no warning on it, so people, including myself, get stranded in horrible situations.note to nissan. I have been a repeat customer. I have had 1 maxima, 2 altimas and now a z. I will fix this car, sell it and until/unless nissan does the right thing and issues a recall on this, i will never look at another nissan again.

Car was parked at a local coffee shop.suddenly the steering lock, part of the starting system went haywire and disabled the car completely.now the car can't be turned on even though the key is in the car and the battery is full.i believe nhtsa needs to be made aware of this issue as it is a safety concern since every 370z is at risk of this problem, leaving all potential owners stranded.i believe nissan is aware of this problem as the nissan gt-r had a campaign to replace the very same part.it is called a steering lock.

Ignition failure . Unable to start car, or perform any action, results in only solution. Tow vehicle to dealership. Root cause:defective intelligent power distribution module (ipdm) must be replaced.this is occurring on new 2009+ nissan 370z models.

I drove my car to work and everything was running fine, as i stopped at a store to grab something and came back out my car no longer worked. The system would no longer recognize the intelligent key, and the push start button was in the "lock" mode. After researching this i found out that this is a common issue in the 2009-2010 z models. The same issue found in nissan gt-r models, the steering wheel lock malfunctions and is therefore enable to recognize the intelligent key due to the steering column being locked. Nissan should definitely take responsibility for the faulty equipment as this leaves cars and owners stranded. For a relatively new car this should not be happening esp. Under 36,000 miles. The majority of the complaints have not even surpassed the powertrain warranty. The government should show concern for consumers as well as nissan!

Got the car in 09 nissan 370z. First month ac went out. It been fix about 10x. They told me that it fixed for sure this time. (been over two years for it to be fix. Not sure it fix or not bc it still at the dealer) transmission replaced within 4 months of owning the car and throw out bearing. Transmission been look at about 4x. About two months ago my car turned off while at a stop light and 3 weeks ago i was going 55 mph and the car shut off on me while driving.i didn't have any power steering or brakes. Thank god i was able to stop. I took the car to the dealer ship and have them look at it. It took them over two weeks and couldn't find out what was wrong with it. Then they called a master tech to look at my car. He said the cause of the car to turn off bc of my aftermarket intake but i told him it turn off before i had that install onto my car.so i contacted nissan consumer affairs. The tech and nissan consumer affairs both told me to drive the car with my stock intake back on. Both did not care for my safety of driving the car.

The steering lock mechanism part #48700-jf00a on 09 and 10 models fails after a while due to poor quality. This results in the steering column being unable to unlock and therefore disabling the car from being started. This can leave anyone stranded and needing the car towed. In my case the car is stuck in my garage because i am unable to start it due to this faulty part. This needs to be recalled because the part will fail its just a matter of when.

I parked the car in the lot and lock it. When i came back to drive away at 2:00 am where is nobody around i couldn't start the car and i had key warning indicator flashing on the dashboard. I found out later that is my steering wheel lock module failed like another couple of hundreds other 370z. Nissan need to recall it.

2009 nissan 370z worked perfectly then wouldn't start.found many other incidents of the same problem.the issue is a broken steering wheel lock which won't unlock.although the same part is known to have issues in many nissan cars, there is no recall so owner pays for an expensive part and labor.

Constant problems with the clutch, car records shows clutch and csc has been replaced but is having problems yet again. Always feel ticking in the clutch pedal when disengaged, and clutch sticks when taking off from stop (not talking about launches or dropping gears). Also a lot of problems with electrical, like fuel gauge. Last but not least, lots of wind noise when on the freeway, and window gets stuck when closed on freeway. Have gone to dealership and of course they say theres nothing they can do even though forums show theres recalls.

After i drove car for 5 minutes, i parked the car for 40 minutes. When i tried to start the car, nothing happened. The car has a push button start and when i pressed it, nothing happened. No sound, no starter noise. Nothing. I tried putting the key in the dash. Still nothing.i got the car towed to the nissan dealer and was told the locking system had failed. $1300 to fix it. I was told that when the system fails, the car will not start.this is an extremely dangerous car. It will leave your stranded anywhere and at any time. Many 350z & 370z owners have complained about this safety issue but nothing has been done to fix it. A recall should be forced on nissan!

Steering lock unit failed. "key" light indicator appeared. Car unable to start. Tow needed to dealer for out of warranty repairs. There was a voluntary recall on the same part for 2009 gtrs models (reference: ntb10-025, campaign id#: p0309. It is ridiculous that there is no recall for 370z models which uses the same defective part!!!!!!

The story goes like this http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-general-discussions/48434-z-looked-awesome-tow-truck-sarcastic.html.http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-general-discussions/48442-those-you-who-have-had-steering-lock-failure.htmlmy story with my car is i had the key light come on about a month ago started researchingfound the forumand saw it was a common issue with my year so i sent a email to nissan who basically gave me the run around saying we never have heard of it ... So i went to the dealer had my remote key batteries replaced after they said that they would have to keep it for 3 days to do test ... Well i need my car to get to work so i left and would come back when i had time well about 1 week later i wasat a home depot parking lot and it failed i could not start the car i was stuck long story shot after good help from nissan i got it towed to a dealer and its going to sit there forabout a week to a month because their systems were down and they could not tell how long the part that i mentioned (the steering lock ) was gonna take according to the forum its taken some people a month to get it please get this recalled... My dad hasn't yet but he has the year after mine so i want to get his fixed as well.

The electric steering wheel lock mechanism has failed bad.there has been a recall on the part, but nissan refuses to acknowledge it. Many complaints have been addressed on this issue.

I have a 2009 nissan 370z that after 3 days sitting in my garage wouldn't start without warning because the steering wheel lock failed. I was lucky that the issue didn't happen while i was out of town. The car had absolutely no power and had to be towed to the nissan dealership.the bill to have it fixed was $1051.01 with labor. I have a case open with nissan to try to get it covered since this part is out of warranty.

Drove to 7/11 to get gas. Turned the car off. When i got back in the car to leave the car would not start. There was an amber key on the dashboard. There have been a major number of complaints filed for this same reason. The immobilizer locked out the wheel shaft which locked out the key faub. Since the car thinks it has been stolen the car will do nothing. No nissan dealership is open on a sunday and they are knowingly doing nothing about the issue. I never received any notices that there could have been an issue in the 3 years i've had my car. There has been a huge number of complaints on blogs which i discovered today after attempting to get my car started again.

Trying to start my 2009 370z approx 35k miles, i have to push the start button 2-7 times to get the car to start.checked clutch switch position, it is okay.occasionally it will start on the first time pushing the start button. Get in car, depress clutch when light comes on, push start button, on lights, no start , push again access light on, nothing, again off light, push again, and so on until starts.dealer had no answers.replaced battery in both keys, no difference.has been an issue a couple times after stalling in traffic.

Electric steering column lock was replaced in a recall at 25,824 miles in may 2013.car in october 2016 with 37746 nukes had problems starting, had to push, "start" button from two to 12 times to get vehicle to start.first dealer replaced battery, needed to be done but problem did not go away.dealer found that steering column electric lock was intermittently not working and had to be replaced at a cost of $1,103.50. This is the same part that was replaced as part of the original recall.if stalled in traffic it could take up o 5 minutes to start vehicle.

Yellow key light illuminated when car was started, even though had key fob in pocket.went to dinner and upon returning to car, it would not start.would not do anything, no response to depressing start button. Stranded with wife in 22 degree cold.had to have it towed to dealer the next day.ipdm had to be replaced.this is a very common problem with this car.if you google the problem, there are tons of folks out there that have had the same problem.this is common in many of the nissan models that use the intellikey system.my take on it is the steering pin is not disengaging releasing it from the locked position causing a burn out of the ipdm.probably due to stress placed on the steering wheel when entering and exiting the car.

I was routinely driving to work on a friday. I stopped to get gas. The car wouldn't start once i was done and a yellow/amber intelligent key light was on. I get a tow to the nearby nissan dealership and they told me it's a steering wheel lock. They said it's happening on quite a few cars and that an altima and another 370z have been having the same issue and are waiting for the same part. I'm still waiting on the part and it happened over a month ago. This faulty part from the factory has been going out routinely for everyone who owns a 09-10 370z, altimas and other nissan vehicles that use the same steering wheel lock technology. It's absolutely enraging that nissan is releasing these parts (knowing they're bad as they've made revisions on the newer 370z) and forcing customers to pay for this out of pocket and wait a month to get the part.check this forum for further confirmation: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-warranty-scheduled-maintenance-servicing-repairs/12294-intelligent-key-system-warning-light.html.

My 2009 nissan 370z failed to start on feb 21st without any warning. The intelligent key light was on while trying to start the car by pushing the 'start' button. Tried inserting the key fob into the fob slot but the car still failed to start. After reading numerous threads related to this problem on www.the370z.com, i discovered that this is a common problem to the 370z. I was able to start the car one more time by hitting the steering lock unit. I immediately drove to the dealership where they confirmed that my steering lock unit had to be replaced. The cost was $1335.70 total for parts and labor.

The steering lock assembly went out, which causes the car to not start at all. It leaves you stranded. Reading through forums and talking to other 370z owners this is a common problem that needs to be recalled. You cant start your car or even turn it to accessory, which means if you break down away from home you cant even charge your phone to be able to call for help. The part is quite expensive and there are ways to disable it. I feel that if this issue is happening with so many of these cars it needs to be replaced free of cost.

The fuel gauge does not display a full tank of gas after a fill up.this results in a very inaccurate depiction of fuel levels.this is a know issue but nissan has refused to acknowledge on the 370z. The problem it intermittent, but it has only gotten worst.i brought my car to the dealership a while ago and they replaced the instrument cluster, believing it to be an issue with the display.the issue is still there after they installed a new instrument cluster, but now i'm past my extended warranty. The real cause of this is within the fuel system and the way it measures the fuel level.this renders the fuel gauge, distance to empty andaverage mpg reading inaccurate and useless. There are others who have this issue and i would like for nissan to address it as a recall.

On 11/22/2012 i attempted to start my vehicle and it would not start, or go into accesory mode. The car was towed to the dealership and determined to be caused by a faulty steering lock actuator. The car has under 19.000 miles.

Fuel sending unit failure.fuel gage will not read the correct amount of fuel in tank.issues has been getting progressively worse for more than 2 years.both fuel sending units are scheduled for replacement by nissan dealer. This is a very common problem.see the following sites for other examples.http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-warranty-scheduled-maintenance-servicing-repairs/26917-fuel-gauge-not-lighting-all-way-up.htmlandhttp://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-warranty-scheduled-maintenance-servicing-repairs/24770-fuel-sender-problemo.html.

Car would not turn on.towed to local nissan dealer & they said the steering lock assembly failed.vehicle locked up.costing me $1400 to repair.

My vehicle would not start after normal usage.had car towed to dealership and the steering wheel lock mechanism was shorted out.cost around 1,200 to repair.after search, found out that this is a very common problem with this vehicle.

Steering wheel lock failure (intelligent key system warning).was at a gas station and car would not start."yellow" key light showed up but car would not start at all.had to have car towed to dealership.after research, i havediscovered that this part has failed on many nissan models with this type of electronic steering wheel lock.this needs to be recalled and anyone who has paid to have it replaced needs to be reimbursed.a class action lawsuit needs to be filed because nissan refuses to accept that it is a faulty part.total cost to replace:$1084.

Steering wheel lock froze. No changing of fuses, disconnecting of battery , or any other suggested "fixes" worked. Towed to nissan dealer. " highly unusual".. Hahaha found over sixty other nissan model owners same problem. Mechanism discontinued on 2012 models . Cost &1400.00 to replace. Not covered under warranty!!!

As i was getting ready to leave my house for the evening, i attempted to start my car like i had done earlier in the day without any problems. When i went to push my start button, i noticed that nothing had happened at all except the illumination of a key lock light. After checking the gas, battery, and fuses, i was left wondering what i should do. After checking into the problem with various credible sources, i discovered that the steering lock unit had failed. I also found out that this is a major problem with 2009-10 models of my car. I was without a vehicle for 3 days, and was going to have to pay a good amount of money for a factory defective unit that fails at any given moment, leaving the driver ( and passengers) stranded wherever they may be. Thank goodness i was at home and my car was in the garage. There should be a recall on this particular part, seeing that nissan knows that this part is prone to failure, yet does nothing to rectify the situation except discontinue the part on newer models.

I went to start my car with push button start and nothing happened. There was a light on the dashboard with a key symbol. I called the nissan dealer, they said i would have to have my car towed. They called me later that day and said it had a bad steering wheel lock mechanism. I know nissan is having problems with the 2009 370z wheel lock mechanisms. There is no recall at the moment.

The steering column lock device has been failing daily.i bought this car in march of 2014 and i have all of the paperwork that shows the previous owner took it to autonation nissan chandler and under recall p3208 it was supposedly fixed in 2013. I didn't even own the car til 2014!the ntb13-014 also was on the invoice. It says they replaced the steering wheel lock unit- i have spent over $20k on my z ( not including the price of the car, and i can't even get larry h miller nissan to take care of it. They want $1500. I just don't understand howlarry h miller nissan knew about this and new the dates it was 'fixed' at the other dealership, and failed to notify me when i brought it to their attention.i have all my invoices for work done, and a nissan w 44,000 miles has had endless problems -please help. I am disabled, and this is a huge financial burden for me,i reallyhad a lot of confidence in nissan taking care of their customers - it seems that isn't the case- on june 27 i got into a small accident and it ended up costing geico $14,850.35 - when they brought it back the fuel management system had gotten loose since it's located underneath the passenger side in the gas tank and is a typical problem with 370 z's and they wanted me to pay for it also the car is riding a lot lower to the ground than it ever was the black bumper guard at the very bottom is all scraped up and that never happened before so either the front shocks or struts are lower than before. I love my z and i've put over $40,000 into it and now i can't get people to do what they're supposed to do because they 'don't want to' the people who fix your car's know about all of these consistent problems & they should fix them and it seems like they don't want to fix problems that arise with the same model.i had to have my insurance adjuster call just to get the fuel pump fixed. Nissan wanted me to pay for it

Steering wheel lock failed thank god while im in the driveway not on the road.. Nissan said its common and will happen again.. Cost 1200 dollars not including labor... This is insane.. I just bought this car now im wasting alot of money..

Attempted to start my 370z this morning, key light would come on, and the lock light came on the push button start.but no response.after some research, it appears that the steering wheel lock mechanism is stuck halfway so the steering wheel turns but nothing is indicating to the ecu that it is unlocked.nissan had issued a recall for the same part on 2009 gt-r's (ntb10-025 p0309) but not on 370z's.it became such an issue that in 2011/2012 nissan stopped installing the device on the 370z model.more and more 370z owners are becoming stranded because of this defect and it should be recalled and replaced.

Steering lock fail.

Steering wheel lock assembly stopped working.

The car stop working when i tried to turn it on. I towed it to the shop and found out the steering lock and given up and this was very rare.... I searched only and found out so many people had the same issues with the same vehicle.. How is it that the car never been in any accident and now having an issue with electrical. I had stereo issues, electrical issues, and now the steering wheel issue.. They don't cover the car cause there is no recall.. How do companies get away with this.. I can not believe there is nothing that is being done about this.

Engine used approximately 3/4 quart of oil in first 700 miles.continues to consume in excess of 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles.nissan has done numerous (4) consumption tests.vehicle failed all tests. Vehicle now has 8,700 miles after 5 years and i am in a protracted battle with nissan.they have been aware of this problem since 2008 and issued tsbs in 2010 but continued to try and hide behind the problem.there are numerous posting on the web for like problems with the 370 engine, including the nissan 370z and the infiniti g37.

My car will not start due to the well-known yellow key light problem. I had it towed to the shop and i am afraid that the repair bill will be very expensive. Please make a recall for this obvious defect. It is very cold right now and could have been a real danger due to the cold weather.

I was driving to work one morning when my clutch pedal became limp.i was on the freeway getting ready to shift into 6th gear when i had no clutch resistance!i nearly crashed due to the lack of engagement.i took it to the dealership and they said i was out of warranty. This very same issue was fixed under warranty at 30,000 miles.the dealership either never replaced the parts they claimed to have replaced at 30k miles or they have failed again, just 35k miles later. These parts are the master cylinder and slave cylinder in the transmission. The issue has been going on with 2009-2015 models. Actually, it has been going on as far back as 2003 with the 350z, which was never addressed. I'm selling the car and hopefully the buyer doesn't crash and die from it. If he/she does, you should be held responsible for not addressing the issue. Many of the members on the370z.com forum have this issue cited here:http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-general-discussions/25007-sticky-official-370z-clutch-pressure-csc-failures.html

Car would not turn on.towed to local nissan dealer & they said the steering lock assembly failed.vehicle locked up.costing me $1400 to repair.

Car revs up to 2500-3000 rpms between shifts! cannot get the idle to drop lower; any attempt to punch the gas pedal and lower the idle just makes it idle faster!! problem has existed 3.5 years now, and every time i request the dealer investigate they have lame excuse of "if it isn't doing it when you bring it in, we can't troubleshoot it"! wtf? the most recent time (march 2013) the car had a "service engine" light at the same time and idle wouldn't drop below 2000 rpms for 3 days. I took it in for service and dealer found "nothing wrong" and "no codes saved in ecm memory". Again, wtf? isn't this the same toyota runaway throttle issue - same year, same japanese car, same fuel throttle component purchased from the same inferior supplier? dealer is not documenting my requests!! are you waiting for me to have an accident and die before you fix it?

I was routinely driving to work on a friday. I stopped to get gas. The car wouldn't start once i was done and a yellow/amber intelligent key light was on. I get a tow to the nearby nissan dealership and they told me it's a steering wheel lock. Rear diff seized twice, at 12k and 15k. Dealer identified issue as overheating due to improper backlash setting from factory.

Engine power cuts out randomly. Error code p0011 given. All mechanical components associated with code p0011 per nissan have been replaced. Problem still persists. Apparently, this is not an uncommon problem with the early 2009 370z. To date, nissan has not issued a recall for this problem.

1. Car nissan 370z, 2009 (11,000 miles)was stalling and knocking2. I took the vehicle to the nissan dealer and their assessment was that the oil was being burned up, for no apparent and damage has occurred to the short block.3. Dealer is going to replace the short block at no cost under warranty.

Dear nhtsa,i would like to report a serious issue with the nissan 370z.today as i was coming out of a sharp right hand off ramp (from i-91n into 15n in hartford, ct).the car experienced fuel starvation in which all gas slosh to the left side of the vehicle.even though the car was straightened out after the turn, the fuel never returned to the right side where the fuel pump is.so despite having 4.5 gallons left in the gas tank, my car completely shut down due to the fuel pump not being able to get any fuel.i sat there desperately trying to restart the vehicle, i ended up having to have the state police called a flatbed to get me to the nearest gas station.it took my car 14.3 gallons to restart (car has approx. 18.7 gallon capacity).i want to let nhtsa know how dangerous the situation is as the car can shut down after any sharp right turn when the car is below 1/2 a tank of gas.i had actually experienced it with 3/4 tank of gas, but never to a point where the car refused to start after.i hope the nhtsa can look into it as multiple owners are reporting the same issue on the internet.the dealer is no help as the fuel would slosh back to the right side after sitting through a 2-3 hour flatbed ride, resulting in perfect start up.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Fuel sending unit failure, not reading the correct fuel amount for more than 7 months. The led lights on the fuel gauge didn't indicate the correct fuel amount giving different reading all the time. For that reason i always keep the car with more than 1/4 tank in addition to being afraid of fuel starvation when below 1/4 tank. Fuel sending unit replaced by the dealer after 3 visits.

The fuel gauge is inaccurate and/or defective fuel sender unit causing the gauge to not show a full tank after filling up.it renders the gauge unreliable in determining the amount of fuel left.also, the car has a fuel starvation issue when making sharp right turns with less than a quarter tank.it causes the engine to stall and won't start until you either let it sit or fill with more gas.

The gas reading is always messed up since i bought the car, it's left me stranded my last 350z also did this i won't shop nissan with these issues if i'm forced to pay for this issue twice

As i was merging onto 101 from 880 in san jose, the car lost all drive at the exit of the merge as the car experienced fuel starvation when the fuel on the right side of the gas tank slosh over to the left side during the tight turn from 101 and 880.my speed was less than 30mph at the turn and the starvation happened as i exited the clover leaf.the experience was scary as i lost all drive while cars were coming up behind me at 65mph.this has happened before, it is a common issue with the 370.i would like to ask nhtsa to step in and ask nissan for a permanent fix.this happened with more than half a tank of gas on board.

Vehicle fuel gauge said 1/4 of a tank as i was driving the car suddenly shut off on a busy road making it very dangerous. I had the car towed home and as i was trying to diagnose the problem i added gas to the tank and the car started. Obviously the problem is the fuel sending unit.

Fuel sending unit doesnt work appropriately. Full tank of gas and it shows that it doesn't have any gas. There's hundreds of people complaining about this. It's a risk since a false amount of fuel can lead to the vehicle stopping out of nowhere on a highway/street which can lead to accidents.http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivetrain/114359-fuel-sending-unit-help.htmlhttp://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-warranty-scheduled-maintenance-servicing-repairs/24770-fuel-sender-problemo.htmlhttp://www.350z-tech.com/forums/141-how-articles/70283-fuel-pump-location.htmlhttp://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-general-discussions/78382-oh-no-not-another-fuel-gauge-issue.htmlhttp://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-warranty-scheduled-maintenance-servicing-repairs/26917-fuel-gauge-not-lighting-all-way-up.htmlthese are some of the threads as soon as you search for 370z fuel sending unit.

Engine was replaced at 30,295 miles (due to excessive oil use) on 5/16/12. Upon return and on may 17, 2012, while driving the car, the clutch pedal would remain at the base of the floor of the vehicle.after driving, the clutch pedal would eventually came back to it's normal position.approximately 2 months later, this re-occurred while driving the vehicle again, but this time, the vehicle would not go into 3rd gear, (leaving me stranded in traffic)...everything eventually went back to normal.at 38,607, the clutch pedal once again remained on the floor board & on 1/26/13, the dealer diagnosed and replaced the failed clutch slave cylinder & master cylinder.on 5/27/13, at 45,769 mi, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the same problem (clutch pedal remained on floor)-dealer stated-couldn't duplicate the concern.on 2/05/14, approx. 52,000 mi, the vehicle was taken to the shop after the clutch pedal remained on the floor and would not shift into gear (once again stranding me in traffic).this part (slave cylinder) is a common failure in the 350z, g37, 370z vehicles (as indicated in various forums) because of it's poor design and has a history of failure.there are no previous warnings given and can render the car helpless while driving in traffic.

Rear diff seized twice, at 12k and 15k. Dealer identified issue as overheating due to improper backlash setting from factory.

This problem of the clutch sticking has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the vehicle. I don't drive the car that often but when i do the clutch pedal does not come up once pushed to the floor. In order for the clutch pedal to return to the up position i have to pull it up with my left foot and this have become a hazard driving. The car currently have 42,242 miles.

Came to a stop at a busy intersection to make a legal right turn on red when the clutch pedal refused to come up more than in inch, causing the car to stall the in middle of the intersection repeatedly until i was able to stick it in to a gear and get it to a parking lot of a nearby hotel where the clutch pedal remained limp on the floor. Mechanic confirmed earlier this week that the clutch slave cylinder had given out. Upon further research i found multiple people with similar incidences in the same kind of car and also affecting 6 speed manual g37's and later 350z's. When my car continued to stall in the intersection i could've been t-boned and i believe to be one of the lucky ones. It could've happened on the highway. Updated 07-16-15updated 9/21/2015

I was waiting in neutral at a red light when i noticed that the clutch pedal had sunk all the way to the floor and would not return to the engaged position. Because of this, i couldn't get the car into gear and ended up having to push the car out of the intersection onto the sidewalk where i then received a ticket for illegally parking even though the vehicle was completely undriveable. Later that week, i removed the transmission to discover that the concentric slave cylinder (csc) had disintegrated and all that was left was a few bits of rubber and plastic covered in clutch fluid. I've since replaced the part with a metal replacement that has performed flawlessly since. Incidences of csc failure are noted extensively on enthusiast forums, and nissan has in most cases refused to repair the defect under warranty. This could be a serious safety concern if this failed while the vehicle was moving. The link to an online thread documenting many other failures is included below:http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-general-discussions/25007-sticky-official-370z-clutch-pressure-csc-failures-49.html

Pushed the clutch in to shift and it never came back up. Had to tow it toa shop.cost a bunch. Happened around 30k and at 53k. A lot of people have this issue. Almost every other day i see someone posting about the csc failure.

Concentric slave cylinder on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission leaks and fails resulting in the clutch petal to fall to the floor preventing the driver from releasing the clutch pressure plate. This prevents the driver from being able to shift gears and completely immobilizes the vehicle. The defective part is located inside the bell housing requiring the exhaust and transmission to be removed to replace it.

Clutch lines were designed to close to my cars catalytic converter.. Leading to clutch fluid boiling while im on the highway going 65-70 when appropriate. I push down on clutch and it sticks to the floor, i can barely shift this isnt safe.. The problem could only be resolved after replacing the whole clutch set up and nissan covered the parts but i spent nearly $1000 in labor, on a car i just bought a month or so ago.. Im trying not to regret my choice of a car.they covered the parts for a reason.. Think on it.

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that the clutch failed to shift gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the slave cylinder seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,620.

At around the md border, when driving home to nj from tn, the clutch stuck to the floor. I couldn't change out of 6th gear, so i had to drive from that point without slowing enough to have to change gears or stopping.after i got off at my exit and hit a stop light, i forced it out of 6th gear before it stalled, then pumped the clutch (pressing it then lifting it back up with my foot) until i was able to get it into 1st then 3rd gear and i drove it most of the way to cherry hill nissan in 3rd gear. At the light next to the dealership, pumped the clutch until i got it into first gear and could not change gears anymore. I had to drive the car into a parking spot then stall the engine by holding the brakes.the clutch sticking to the floor has happened to me a few times before, normally on long drives, but i was always able to pump the clutch a few times and it would return to normal. This was the first time i could not get it out of gear while driving. Being stuck in a gear is pretty scary.the concentric slave cylinder (csc) failure causes this problem. It has even happened on the 350z and the gt-r. Apparently, this is a very common problem with these cars. The first complaint on nhtsa was filed on 09/18/2010, and there have been a lot of complaints since then. Someone, please conduct a safety investigation.

Slave cylinder on my 370z had a catastrophic failure. Nissan put an inferior slave cylinder in their 370z models. My slave cylinder had a catastrophic failure while sitting at a stop. Thankfully i was not on the highway. The tech that replaced the part said their was virtually nothing left from the slave cylinder because it was made out of inferior material. Nissan wanted $2,000 to replace and install the same inferior part because to them it is not considered part of the drive train even though this part is required for the drive train to operate. This item should not be considered wear and tear. Had to take my vehicle to a place that specializes in nissan 370z to get an upgraded part put into my vehicle for less than half the cost nissan wanted. Clutch engagement and feel is better than brand new no thanks to nissan.

This is the second major incident i've had with the transmission in my car.the first one was under warranty and the dealership replaced the entire transmission.just yesterday and today, it feels like the clutch is failing once again.i haven't taken it in to nissan yet, but the issues sound a lot like the dreaded csc (clutch slave cylinder) failure the nissan refuses to recall.it's a truly problematic, expensive and life threatening issue.at best, the clutch sticks to the floor and you can't shift it into 1st gear.at worst, it happens while you're driving at highway speeds.also, before it fails completely, the engagement point of the clutch changes drastically.the car has lunged forward because it just suddenly decides to engage the clutch. This is dangerous nissan and absolutely abhorrent that it hasn't been resolved, failure after failure after failure.the dealerships knowingly keep a few of this part in stock, knowing it's common.370z owners have had enough of this!

This happened at 39574 miles on the odometer. This was the first time i could not get it out of gear while driving. Being stuck in a gear is pretty scary. The concentric slave cylinder (csc) failure causes this problem. It has even happened on the 350z and the gt-r. Apparently, this is a very common problem with these cars. The first complaint on nhtsa was filed on 09/18/2010, and there have been a lot of complaints since then. Someone, please conduct a safety investigation.edit 5/18/2016: i added a scan of my $1400 bill.

Part has failed 3 times . (1)@65k miles. Clutch slave cylinder failure .while coming to a stop i push clutchpedal in and it didnt release ,and addition the clutch did not disengage creating a stopping issue. Could not get out of gear, causing the car to lunge forward when forcing to a stop.stuck in traffic. (2)@77k miles. Clutch slave cylinder failure . While coming to a 4 way stop during rush hour the clutch pedal when in and didnt come out. Unable to change gears. Car stuck in traffic. (3)@83k miles.clutch slave cylinder failure . Pulling into garage i go to push the clutch in and the car keeps moving, almost running into back walll of garage. Clutch pedal went in and didnt come back out. Clutch slave cylinder failure again. Having that same part fail with increased frequency its certainly isnt the way i drive my car.oem part lasted 65k than oem part lasted 12k than oem part lasted 6500 miles. I love this car so much i bought a car lift to replace this part myself. Dealer charges over $1100 to replace a 75 dollar part. But it is very dangerous to have this part fail. I have been very lucky that no person was walking by the front/rear of my car while i push in the clutch pedal or had it failed while trying to park. This last time i noticed a shudder from the clutch pedalprior to part failure.

While pulling out or at stop red light the clutch pedal sunk to the floor , sometimes it stays on the floor, the clutch slave cylinder cscfailure is a hazard ..i have had the master cylinder replaced but did not fix the issue

Loss of clutch pedal (csc) clutch slave cylinder and (cmc) clutch master cylinder

The csc (clutch slave cylinder) failed when i was driving leaving me without any power. I cant drive my car anymore and i need to get the transmission dropped to fix it.

I got into my car in the garage and tried to start it by first pushing the clutch and pressing the start button. While pushing the clutch down, it fell to the floor and stayed there and never came back up. I have to lift it with my left foot.

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that he was unable to start the vehicle. Also, the contact mentioned that whenever he depressed the clutch, it failed to release preventing him from properly shifting gears. The vehicle was taken to dealer. The technician diagnosed that the steering lock failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 59,000 and the current mileage was 60,000. ...updated 04-03-13 the consumer stated the csc failure is the cause for this report. Rendering the clutch useless and unable to switch gears. The consumer stated the original complaint was for the steering lock failure but that issue has been recalled. Updated 04/19/2013

I have a 2009 370z.it is daily driven (no clutch dumping, burn out, track, racing, etc.).the clutch is oem.at 16,158 miles i was leaving work.i was getting ready to pull out of the parking lot when the clutch pedal sunk to the floor.the more i press down, the more pressure was lost.the dealership diagnosed the problem as a failed concentric slave cylinder.this is probably the same part that is used in the '07+ 350z with similar issues.thankfully this problem occurred in the parking lot.the pedal sinking to the floor was sudden and without warning.

Nissan 370z grinding noise when clutch is released. No matter in which gear you release the clutch, there is a grinding noise. The mechanics at the dealership have tested other new 370z, and they are all the same. My z is only at 3600 miles.

Passenger airbags fail to recognize me (5'6" 118lbs)the sensors have been unreliable since purchase but now never see me.nissan claims 120lb cut off is government standard. Refuses to acknowledge issue.

Loss of clutch pedal (csc) clutch slave cylinder and (cmc) clutch master cylinder

Rear diff seized twice, at 12k and 15k. Dealer identified issue as overheating due to improper backlash setting from factory.

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. While parked, the clutch pedal failed and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and concentric slave cylinder needed to be replaced. Also, different brake fluid would have to be used per the hydraulic system. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,600.

2009 nissan 370z worked perfectly then wouldn't start.found many other incidents of the same problem.the issue is a broken steering wheel lock which won't unlock.although the same part is known to have issues in many nissan cars, there is no recall so owner pays for an expensive part and labor.

I arrived to work around 7 am.when i left work to go home around 4:30 pm, i unlocked my car.i pushed the button to start the car like normal (though i did notice a light on the dash that said "key") and the car wouldn't start.i thought maybe my key fob battery was dead so i put it in the slot that enables one to start the car with a dead fob.the car still didn't start after pushing the button.i had my wife bring me the spare fob to find that it too would not start the car either way.i called nissan and they told me it would have to be towed so they could look at it.the next day the car was towed and once nissan looked at it they said it was the "steering lock actuator".the part cost was 700-something dollars and by time the labor was put in and the actuator was installed, the total cost (part plus labor) was $1173.this is clearly a problem for others as well.search "nissan steering lock actuator" in google or go to the370z.com and do the same search.i think it's ridiculous nissan hasn't come up with a different or more reliable device for the theft protection that this device offers, and it is ridiculous that there is not a recall on it.

The steering wheel lock failed.when this fails it causes the car not to start or allow it to go into accessory mode, so even the windows cannot be rolled up or down when this happens, the car is basically dead.this is a known defect, nissan has taken the steering wheel locks out of the mid 2011 models and later due to there failure.researching online has shown this happening to numerous people, so much so that there are many ways people are disabling this lock so they are not left stranded.from what i read it was over oiled at the factory and is a defective part.this same part was failing in the nissan's gtr model, and was recalled, but there was never a recall issued for the 370z.

Steering lock fails and wont let me restart, lock or unlock the car (keyless system).

The electric steering wheel lock mechanism has failed bad.there has been a recall on the part, but nissan refuses to acknowledge it. Many complaints have been addressed on this issue.

Service campaign bulletin no. Ntb13-014 was issued on 3/7/2013.my car experienced the problem described in the recall notice and the nissan dealer replaced the defective part on 12/2/2013 at no charge.in november, 2017, my car experienced the exact same problem.it was repaired at the same nissan dealer, performing the replacement of the exact same part, on 11/17/2017 at a cost to me of $1,153.40.nissan has refused to cover the replaced (defective) part stating: 1) they complied with the recall campaign by replacing the initial failed part with a second (defective) part, and 2) the second (defective) part was beyond its 12 month warranty.in both cases, the defective part disabled the vehicle from starting, thus creating the need to have it towed to the dealer.because the exact same part failed that was subject to the service recall campaign, creating the necessity for a second replacement, i believe it should have also been subject to the service recall campaign.the replaced part failed at approximately the same interval as the first failed part, both of which was well beyond a 12 month in-service period.

Car wouldnt start had to get it towed , known problem of the steering wheel mechanism lock has to be replaced . Nissan is paying for altimas and maximas to get replaced but not 370z that has the same problem. Over $1200 to repair for a known defect

I purchased my first nissan, a 2009 370z, in 2009. As of today the car has had four (4) electronic steering column locks (escl) installed. The escl that nissan uses is defective, which results in leaving their customers stranded. This, in my opinion is unconscionable. The latest failure of the escl left me stranded out of town. I have no faith that the fourth escl will be any better than the previous three that nissan has installed.it is well documented that the escl that nissan uses is malfunctioning. The internet is full of stories of people stranded in unsafe areas due to this defective part. Nissan claims to have fixed this issue but clearly they have not. My car would have no problems starting, however the escl that nissan have installed will not allow it to start. Nissan will not allow my car to start unless i pay them to install a defective part. So i had to pay them.currently nissan is recalling the 2009 altima due to a defective escl and repair them for free. However, if you had bought a 2009 370z, the same year as the altima, you must pay them, again and again and again. This makes no sense.the fourth (4) escl that was installed is part # 48700-9n00b, which is the sixth (6) part number for the escl. I can attest to the fact that all previous versions of this part are complete failures. Nissan will tell you that they have now got the part to work. They have been completely wrong on all five previous attempts.it is time for the nhsta to get involved and declare this a safety issue. Whenever you turn your car off, you never know if it will restart. When you fill your gas tank up, you have to decide if you should turn it off and then block the fuel pump for an hour while waiting on a tow truck, or let it run and risk a fire.i wrote nissan a letter about this issue, waited three (3) months, and they never replied!!

Vehicle won't start because the steering lock malfunctioned. This is a very well documented issue with the 370z, and people in forums weren't surprised at all about the issue. This renders the car inoperable since it won't start. Nissan themselves seem to be aware of the issue, since 2012 and up models of this car don't even have the steering lock anymore. But even though they are aware of this issue a recall hasn't been issued.i had read about this issue before i even bought the car since it seems to be very common. In hindsight i wish i had educated myself more on the subject to take preventive measures since this issue is so common and so expensive to fix (part costs north of 500 dollars). But then again, buyers shouldn't be concerned with this at all, but nissan should be very concerned. So i'm hoping you can get nissan to issue a recall for this.

Drove my car to work. Upon trying to leave work, the fob key unlocked the car, but the car displayed a key warning light indicated no fob detected. I inserted the fob into the intelligent key slot to the left of the steering wheel, no luck. I tried a backup fob (with good batteries), and even jump starting the car...still no luck. Headlights and brake lights work indicating power to the vehicle. Apparently a defective steering lock solenoid failed and caused car to cease to start or operate and was left stranded. Upon research online this is a known issue for 2009 for many many people. This is unfortunate because nissan doesn't cover this part after most of the reports i read online failed (36,000+ miles) out of the warranty period costing consumers $1,000+ in repair plus cost to tow and extra for a rental if need be.

My steering column lock failed leaving me stranded. I had to have my car towed to he dealership. Total cost to repair $1,243.00. Nissan refused to pay for the repair.

Steering wheel lock mechanism failure.prevents car from reading key fobs and thus from starting.part is backordered a month.side note:nissan usa is not being responsive to complaints.

Car will not start, had to be towed to nissan, my 2009 370z had a electric steering lock problem. Part with labor will be around $1000. There have been several complaints on this same issue and should have been recalled by now!! will be looking further into this problem nissan should be at fault 100%.

Drove to 7/11 to get gas. Turned the car off. When i got back in the car to leave the car would not start. There was an amber key on the dashboard. There have been a major number of complaints filed for this same reason. The immobilizer locked out the wheel shaft which locked out the key faub. Steering lock control unit failed.

Steering lock assembly failed causing the vehicle to not start.

Steering wheel lock unit failed in lock position disabling vehicle.out of warranty replacement required.research indicated that this part is based on a faulty design that has subsequently been removed from later model years but due to this defect and frequent failure rate i expect to have to replace it annually at a cost of over $500 per incident.the vehicle is completely disabled when this part fails requiring the vehicle to be towed to a service station at owner's expense.this part is clearly a faulty design and should be recalled by the manufacturer and replaced with a design that doesn't fail annually or eliminated.

Steering lock failure part # 48700jf00d.

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that the intelligent key indicator warning lamp was illuminated, which prevented her from turning on the ignition or any other feature on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the electronic steering control module was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 33,000.

I got into my stationary vehicle and when i push the start button it remained in the lock position. The steering lock sensor light was on and it won't change into the acc or on position. This is the second time it has happened to me, first time the dealership had to fix it.

Steering lock fail.

I own a 2009 nissan 370z.there have been issues previously mentioned by members in the 370z.com forum and i have fallen victim to it.the steering lock system in the 370z is faulty and unreliable.the part that needs replacement is a revb steering lock 48700-jf00b.the same issue happened to the nissan gtr and was recalled for that issue.due to the amount of concern i see in the forums of other owners, this issue should be recalled and fixed.safety wise, for owners overseas like myself, could have ended up stuck in the middle of nowhere.thank you for your time.

Car will not start, had to be towed to nissan, my 2009 370z had a electric steering lock problem. Part with labor will be around $1000. There have been several complaints on this same issue and should have been recalled by now!! will be looking further into this problem nissan should be at fault 100%.

The steering lock would not engage after turning off or locking the car. If the steering wheel lock does not work then the car will not start leaving me stranded.

My car failed to start after on 3 1/2 years of owning it.when i took it into the dealer, i was told that it was a "steering lock mechanism" failure, and because my car was 6 months out of warranty, i would be required to pay $1,337.96 to get my car up and running again.while i was at the dealer, i was told this item has had problems since they started making the 370z.the mechanic told me that he's fixed countless steering locks on the 370 & advised me to contact nissan.prior to contacting nissan, i did some research of my own & lo & behold, i'm not the only person with this issue!there is a 370z forum (the370z.com) where multiple people expressed their displeasure with this part.i was 3 pages into the discussion & had already counted 15 instances where this item had failed.i find it very troublesome that nissan would not only produce a faulty part, but won't even stand behind it their mistakes. I contacted nissan via letter through their consumer affairs department & was told there's nothing they can do; since my car was out of warranty.to me, that shows nissan does not care if they are producing faulty parts or not.that is why i am writing you.i believe this issue needs to be resolved one way or another as i'd hate to see someone else have the same misfortune as i did.everything i've read states that this item was over oiled during assembly, which tells me 1 thing; this item needs to be recalled & customers that had this problem should be reimbursed for their troubles.please look into this issue as nissan does not seem to care one bit!thank you for your time!!

Steering wheel lock unit failed in lock position disabling vehicle.faulty unit replaced under warranty.

Car would not start due to steering lock failure. Part was back-ordered and took over 4 weeks to receive part and replace. Serious issue as there is no way to start the car when this happens. Was without the car for over 4 weeks.

Drove to work as normal. Parked car same spot as every day. Got into car to go to lunch. Car wont start. Ignition says locked and the intelligent key system warning light is on.stranded in a park lot alone.unacceptable.no warranty.

Drove 370z to work with no problem.attempted to leave for appointment later in the day and car will not start.the car will do nothing, no power, no radio, can't roll the windows up, etc.the wheel lock system has malfunctioned.apparently, this is a common problem.

The "steering lock" lock the steering wheel.it makes the car impossible to turn on, i had to get it towed and it cost me $1100 dollars to repair it.even though the 09/10 370z's have had this issue nissan has refuse to recall the part, even though the same part was recall on the 09 gtr's.this is issue is causing cars to get stranded all over the place.this issue makes the car go into shut down mode meaning you cant roll up your windows if they are down, you cant turn the steering wheel, etc.people are having to pull the steering lock fuse or cutting the wired to make the steering lock not functionable.this is an issue nissan needs to deal with, and recall the steering lock.you can go online and see hundreds of people who have experience this issue!

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and he was unable to unlock the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the steering wheel lock was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any immediate assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 52,000.

Tried starting my 370z and it would not start, due to what the nissan dealer described as a steering lock failure.when this occurs it leaves the driver stranded as the car will not operate.nissan replaced this part on the 2012 370z but has done nothing for the previous models.nissan will not cover the part since i am 2000 miles over my warranty, yet many owners have had this failure.

Steering wheel lock assembly stopped working.

On 11/22/2012 i attempted to start my vehicle and it would not start, or go into accesory mode. The car was towed to the dealership and determined to be caused by a faulty steering lock actuator. The car has under 19.000 miles.

Parked my car at the store came pushed the start nothing. Changed the battery on the intelligent tried to start wouldn't start inserted the key into key slot nothing happened.

I have heard many, many stories of steering lock failure on these cars made from 2008-2010nissan's more expensive sports car, rhe gt-r, has the same problem with the same parts and was the subject of a recall.will something be done? people are beng stranded all over when their vehicles won't start!

Car won't start. Steering locking mechanism failed.

Steering lock failed and car could not be started. This happened in a high traffic area and safety was a huge issue. Car had to be towed to the local nissan dealership. I have noticed that this is an ongoing issue with this model as noted on the370z.com.

2009 base, 7at. Yellow intelligent key warning light appeared after getting gas about a week prior to incident. Car still started though and the light went away and came back a few times over the course of said week, prior to incident. After researching online, it came to my attention there is a faulty steering lock mechanism that is affecting many owners of the 2009 370z, causing it to fail, leaving the car unable to start. There has been a recall for a similar problem with the gtr. After parking in a local shopping center my car died yesterday (sunday). Yellow intelligent key light appeared while car was parked. Unable to start the car. Had to have it towed to the dealer first thing this morning (monday). As it stands, i'm still waiting to hear the diagnosis from the dealer and it's monday night. I really hope nissan corp. Addresses this ongoing issue that seems to be affecting many (if not all) owners of 09-10 370z's.

Steering lock unit failed. Car would not start. Did not acknowledge that key was in the car.with the slu not working, steering wheel can turn but car won't start.

Attempted to start car using the push button.the car wouldn't start.had aaa come out to test the battery.the battery was good.i towed to the dealership.they said it had a steering lock failure which cost $1100 to repair.it took a day to order the part.the mileage was 22,114.

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that the dealer indicated that they repaired the vehicle for a manufacturer's recall on the steering column lock system on july 19, 2013. On january 13, 2016, the contact stated that the steering wheel was tight, seized, and was unable to be turned. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing to determine the cause of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

Steering wheel /ignition system electronics switch failure ,causing vehicle and all electric accessory systems on vehicle to not function.

Car will not start. Seems to be a very common problemwith 09 370z's.steering lock mechanism.

There is a known issue / problem with 2009 and early 2010 nissan 370z's.the problem is related to the steering wheel lock mechanism, which prevents the car from being turned on in any form (power or engine) because the mechanism fails mechanically and prevents an electrical response from being sent.it is not an issue that would affect safety while driving, but it is absolutely a safety issue because it can and will cause consumers to be stranded without warning.nissan is refusing to take responsibility for this issue and consumers need a voice for a known faulty part which hundreds are experiencing!the simple fact is that because this vehicle is not a widely purchased, popular model, this issue has been ignored by nissan and the powers that be in the government that make recalls happen.more information from frustrated consumers may be seen at the following locations:http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-do-yourself/53437-steering-lock-cut-one-wire-switch-optional-18.htmlhttp://www.the370z.com/diy-section-do-yourself/47181-diy-replace-dreaded-steering-lock-2009s-early-2010s-30.htmlhttp://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-general-discussions/48434-z-looked-awesome-tow-truck-sarcastic-6.htmlmy vehicle should not have mechanical issues with any part with less than 18,000 miles on it.ridiculous!

I am writing to inquire about the status of a known issue with nissan 370z models assembled from 2009 until early 2010 that involves a faulty steering wheel lock that causes the intelligent key warning to engage and effectively stranding vehicle owners without the ability to operate their car. This is a known issue that in fact was recalled already on the exact same part on the nissan gtr models. I feel that it is unacceptable that so many people are experiencing this problem and that those of us driving with this part number have to waitto be inconvenienced tremendously by the part failing until it gets recalled. Please contact me with any questions about my concerns with this issue. I am a 15 year driver of nissan vehicles and continue to purchase and drive them after my 1996 sentra, 2001 sentra and 2007 murano were all reliable vehicles i expected my 2009 370z (my dream car) to follow with that same level of reliability and ease of mind, but as it standsi do not feel comfortable recommending nissan to my friends and family until this issue is resolved satisfactorily.

Steering wheel lock has failed, rendering car unable to be started.

My vehicle would not start after normal usage.had car towed to dealership and the steering wheel lock mechanism was shorted out.cost around 1,200 to repair.after search, found out that this is a very common problem with this vehicle.

Drove to the grocery store and parked.upon return to car it would not start.windows and locks worked but that was it.the yellow key light stayed on and the car was dead in the water.called nissan and they said to check the battery and if that was not it the car would need to be towed.seriously who would design something that you could not override to at least get to the dealership. Got the car towed and later the dealership phoned to say it was the steering wheel column lock and it would cost $1000 to fix.the dealer said they had another car in their service for the same thing on that same day!!!i did some research and it appears that this is a common problem on 2009 nissan vehicles not just the 370z. I also read that nissan no longer uses this part in 2012 vehicles because of all the problems that have occurred. I think nissan needs to step up and take responsibility for this part that is defectively manufactured.what if someone had injured themselves and needed to get medical attention but the car would not start.what if you were in a dangerous situation and could not start your car to get away.nissan claims it is not a safety issue but i beg to differ.please, please, please, help us get nissan to take responsibility for this and pay for repairs and reimburse those who already paid for this nonsense.

Car would not turn on.towed to local nissan dealer & they said the steering lock assembly failed.vehicle locked up.costing me $1400 to repair.

Infamous steering lock problem. Went to start car and got the yellow key symbol and push start button light showed lock. Had to pay $170 to have it towed to nissan.

Steering wheel lock mechanism crapped out.lots of info here: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-general-discussions/65360-sticky-steering-lock-failure-database-sticky.html.

On the morning of weds, oct. 10th, i was leaving work when i could not start the car. Knowing that it seemed not a battery issue, i first thought it was an intelligent key issue. After replacing the battery in the ik with still no luck, i tried again with my spare ik. Again, no start. I had car towed to local nissan where the stated they hadn't heard of any issue with the 370z. After 5 hours of waiting, the general diagnostics results came back with multiple code points indicating a "steering lock failure". Nissan reps there stated they had never heard of this happening, yet while in my wait, i was able to google & find many nissan 370z owners that have experienced this failure. The replacement steering wheel lock assembly had to be ordered & i picked up the z on oct. 12th. Frustrating after missing a full day of work & due to the car was 5 months out of warranty, this became a very expensive part to replace when it's obvious it should be recalled.

Steering wheel lock failed thank god while im in the driveway not on the road.. Nissan said its common and will happen again.. Cost 1200 dollars not including labor... This is insane.. I just bought this car now im wasting alot of money..

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the dealer discovered that the steering column lock unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 60,000.

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that he went to start the vehicle but the steering wheel lock malfunctioned. The contact stated that he could not unlock the steering wheel to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the steering wheel lock needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would look into the matter and get back to him. The failure mileage was 23,000.

The dashboard in the car is greying and sticky (same as 2008-09 altimas, 2011 maximas, toyotas, etx) and can create a glare on the windshield from the sun reflecting off of the glue. This is a manufacturing defect.

The driver side door will not open from the inside.i must roll down the window and open the door from the outside.i have had this problem fixed twice and two days ago it happened again.

My push button start does not start the car. It goes to aac and the ignition but the car just sites there. It will not turn the engine. I was stranded one time and had to get towed home.

Loss of clutch pedal (csc) clutch slave cylinder and (cmc) clutch master cylinder

Attempted to start vehicle. Keyless entry system not working. Vehicle would not start. Had car flat bed towed to nissan. They said that it was the steering lock. Went to go to work this morning and my clutch is stuck to the floor...thought maybe it needed some grease or something so i gave it a few pumps but nothing. The car is not drivable at all!!! this is dangerous if i were actually driving down the road and this happen. Shame on you nissan for not doing anything to correct this issue for a $70 part. People paying out of pocket $1,200 to fix!!! many people in the forums have also had this problem, please attend to this issue immediately. This needs to be recalled!!! im surprised no one has died from this issue yet.

The contact owns a 2009 nissan 370z. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the accelerator pedal would not disengage, causing the driver to crash into a parked vehicle. The driver sustained back pain after the crash. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

The electric steering wheel lock mechanism has failed bad.there has been a recall on the part, but nissan refuses to acknowledge it. Many complaints have been addressed on this issue.
