Caterpillar "c7" engines fuel system failures. While traveling northbound on new jersey turnpike engine lost power limiting speed to as low as 35 mph. Later investigation found the heui fuel pump failed damaging two injectors. The engine has 57,000 miles on it. While sourcing parts it became apparent that this engine from 2004 and later (acert c7) has a problem where the heui pump wears and send metal particles into the injectors. If lucky loss of power will result. Injectors can also get stuck open resulting in uncontrolled engine speed (runaway) and engine damage can also result. Heavy a heavy vehicle like an rv or small truck run away is aproblem. Engine destruction and resulting fire can develop. In my case repairs will consist of replacing the heui pump and set of injectors. The dealer quoted me $6,000+ for the repairs. I am doing the work myself. The injectors and pump have to be returned for core value. When i first called the dealer they knew what happened without even seeing the vehicle. This is an obvious problem.engine serial number is kal27535.

This is relative to the ongoing investigation #ea07016, brake failures on workhorse w-22 motorhome chassis.my motorhome was built on a w-22 chassis in december 2003.in may 2007 a routine brake inspection revealed that a serious crack had developed in the brake rotor on the right rear wheel.the odometer reading at the time was approximately 35,000 miles.the crack went all the way through the rotor.a photo can be viewed at the following location:http://home.roadrunner.com/~morodat/_photos/cracked-rotor.jpgthe servicing dealer, guaranty chevrolet of santa ana, ca, stated initially that the cause was overheating as a result of driver abuse.the brake pads on that wheel had a lot of thickness lesf.the caliper actuator showed no signs of sticking. There was no sign of overheating on the rotor.the other three rotors were ok.after lengthy discussion with the workhorse factory and their district service manager workhorse agreed to provide a replacement rotor and new brake shoes free of charge, but i had to pay for the installation labor.i have heard from other w-22 owners that there have been numerous failures similar to this.i feel that a product defect might be the cause.
