Purchased 1999 mirage from thompson ford and was not notified that the vehicle was on a recall.automobile was purchased in november 2000.subsequently , pulley bolt completely broke and the entire pulley and belt fell out.this was the first incident, exact days unknown, however month and year are accurate.in april 2003, vehicle stopped.was informed by thompson ford that the vehicle wsa not under warranty only to find out approximately 10 days later that it was.vehicle was taken to thompson ford after another mechanic had serviced the vehicle and could not find the problem.thompson ford replaced the piston and this did not solve the problem. Vehicle was sent to a authorized dealer where they replaced a valve and sensor, however the vehicle still does not run.failure of thompson ford to notify me of the recallupon purchase could have resulted in a serious accident or death as at the time i purchased the vehicle i was commuting.i became aware of the recall in 2002 following the pulley bolt breaking and costing considerable monies for repairs.
Preparing to go on a trip, i filled my vehicle with gas. After driving the vehicle for approximately 10 minutesi notice the vehicle beginning to accelerate then slow down. I looked over at the gas needleand it had dropped from the full mark to emptyand the fuel light came on. The vehicle began to loose power.i pulled over to the side of the bridge, waited for approximately 10 minutes and the gas hand returned to the full position and the car was drivable again. This happen three times within an hours period of time.in looking at complaints over the internet, there have been several report problems of the same nature~ reported on edmunds.com.

The car has major loss of power when accelerating, the transmission skips gears when you start going ,the brakes are bad after only 7,000 miles
Transmission computer feeds a too lean gasoline mixture causing the car to run rough when accelerating when engine is cold.it runs like an older car would that needed spark plugs. It has stalled out once from this problem and every morning it is a struggle for the car to back up the small incline in my driveway.i am afraid that when i am trying to turn left in traffic it will stop in the middle of the road. I am very careful when i do pull out.it has been doing this since the car was only four months old & mitsubishi has yet too figure out how to fix it.the dealer has told me that i am not the only person with this problem, yet i see that they are still selling new mirages like nothing is wrong.i have another appointment on september 9th for them to try again to repair it.
The car has major loss of power when accelerating, the transmission skips gears when you start going ,the brakes are bad after only 7,000 miles
I own a 1999 mitsubishi mirage de, which i purchased 3/8/02; it has a 1.5 liter engine and an automatic 4 speed transmission.within days, i noticed that the transmission shifted abnormally from the 1st to the 2nd gears when the engine is cold. This abnormality can be described as a hesitation or slipping at some times, or a popping, like gunfire, at others.again, this shifting sensation is more noticeable when the engine is cold.i notified the dealer from which the vehicle was purchased of this problem on 3/19/02. They test drove the vehicle and indicated on the repair slip that they were unsure as to whether or not a problem existed.on april 5, 2002, i discussed this matter again with rome ford, where this car was purchased. In an attempt to remedy this situation, they sent the vehicle to our local mitsubishi dealer, paolozzi mitsubishi in marcy, ny, for an evaluation.the evaluation resulted in the statement to rome ford that nothing was wrong. On 2/27/03, i encountered yet another unrelated problem with the fan belt loosening and getting chewed up by the pulleys, for which i brought the car directly to paolozzi; for this, they charged me $119.48 for checking the belts and pulleys, and found the power steering pump pulley misaligned. They removed the pump and bracket, remounted it and installed a new belt. It seems to me that i should not have been charged for this service, as this problem is outlined on a web site as recall #00v311001.i mentioned the fan belt problem because on that same date, i again complained about how the transmission shifts. I was charged $18.00 for a diagnostic analysis, for which paolozzi stated on the invoice that the transmission shifting is consistent with specifications and that no problems with the transmission were evident.to date, the problem persists, and i am nearing the end of the powertrain warranty, as i now have about 57,000 miles on the car and the warranty ends at 60,000 miles.*la

While driving could step on the brakes pedal and noticed a lack of braking.had taken vehicle four times to dealer for brakes pads to be replaced, butproblem still occurs.
Brakes make a high-pitched squeaking sound when i brake. The car requires alot of braking time & distance to stop - it doesn't stop quickly. The car has died on 4 occasions. Three times were at red lights, the fourth i was going about 35 miles an hour. I notifed the nearest dealer (in norco california). The manager of the repair shop had me bring the car in (an hour drive) & then said he was too busy to look at my car when i arrived. I asked if i could leave it & take a replacement or rental car until he had time to inspect the car. He said no,i should just bring it back another day.

Brake pads have been replaced every two months since july 2000. At every incident dealer changed brake pads and rotated rotors.

I had a after market accessory added to the car. However when problem occurred i had the accessory disconnected so we could find the true problem. Dealer did replace the actuator and that temporily fixed the problem. My brakes squeak and the dealer said that they build up a thin layer of rust when the car sits even for a short time. Thus causing the squeaks. If this is true why don't you hear every car squeak as they stop at a light?

Engine check light has be solved by replacing oxygen sensor (3 times) and catallytic converter (1 time). Battery failed for no apparent reason.dealer unable to identify root cause of problem.i am considering lemon law
Car would shut off at any time/ would shut off when pulling out from a green light, or would shut off when stopping. Was almost hit from behind each time it happened. And the fuel gage stopped going to full. Fuel milage went from 32 mpg to 26 mpg. They took 8 days to repair the car because they did'nt know what was wrong with it. They had to talk to the engineers at mits. To find out how to fix it. They ended up reprograming the car. They said that this has happened to other cars too. But not this bad.
A crackdeveloped on the lower hinge of the passenger's side door.dealership replaced the upper and lower door hinges, but the crack recurred.
While vehicle was parked consumer noticed that both driver and passenger side doors would not line up properly in order to close.consumerdrove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the vehicle was working as designed.
Consumer stated the driver and passenger side door frames are cracked due to defective lower door hinges.
Lower hinges on drivers side door froze, causing door frame to crack. Door hangs down which damaged fender. Passengers side door frame is also cracking. Dealer contacted.*yd
Door hinges are not properly rotating causing the hinge to have bent the interior of the car door and cause trouble being able to close the car. The hinge is obstructing the closure of the door and causing damage to it. Dealership is claiming that the door was previously bent from strong winds or by a strong opening of the car door. Nothing of this sort has happened- no winds strong enough in chicago to make such a bend in the door fixture and my own strength could not cause the damage that is implicated by the dealership. This should be a warrantied issue and risks our safety because the door progressively releases the hinge and does not provide a secure interior by not being able to close shut. Driver's side is worse, i suspect because of more frequent use. The passenger side door is showing the same type of problem and will progressively begin to be a hassle to try to close. I suspect that it will also cause the problem experienced on the driver's side.
Driver's side door hinge problem. Door was increasingly difficult to open or close for approx. 4 mo. Last month, the door wouldn't close enough to turn off the door ajar indicator or cabin light. Finally, the door became misaligned so that closing it wasn't possible anymore and would catch with the car's side panel. After taking it to a body shop, they determined that the hinge was the problem; it was cracked, bent, and was "scraping" against the door, a complete door replacement is needed due to the damage. I believe the passenger's side front door is also showing early signs of damage. Car is no longer under warranty. I decided to report the problem after noticing complaints of a similar nature regarding the 1999 mirage.
I was given a 1999 mitsubishi mirage by my insurance company after an accident in my 1997 mirage.when i received the car, the passenger side door was difficult to open.over time, the door became increasingly difficult to close and it eventually became misaligned, dropping when it was opened.in july 2002, the door became unusable because it could not be opened far enough for a passenger to enter.i took it to a dealership, where i was told that the hinge had rusted shut due to underuse and that i would have to take it to a body shop.when i took it to the body shop, i was told that the dealer was not telling the truth because this was a very common problem with this model of car and that the hinges were defective.the body shop told me to contact mitsubishi directly.i called mitsubishi's customer service line and was literally told "it is not under warranty, there is no defect and it's your problem now."i have since been able to find on your website that this is in fact a very common problem.
1999 mitsubishi mirage passenger side door hinge cracked.opening door drops down and will not close properly.interior light and door ajar light stays on.dealer says not covered under warranty.only have 37,800 miles on car.drivers side door hinge not cracked yet.
When shutting the passenger door consumer noticed that the door hinges cracked. This was causing the door not to close.
Hood and hood skeleton have become separated from each other.glue holding the two parts together did not hold.this has happened a while ago, but found this website today.not sure of exact date of occurrence since problem is not visible until hood is raised, and it is not something someonepays attention to.it is an unexpected problem that will only get worse over time.looking for others with same [email protected].
Rear spring were cut improperly, causing the tires to turn inward. Dealer notified.
Since purchase of the vehicle, surging forward while driving or braking has been an ongoing problem.the first occurrence was within the first 30 days of purchase.dealer worked on car and indicated problem was corrected.the car has repeatedly had the problem, despite multiple trips for repair.most recent service (august), we were advised there was a computer chip that needed to be reprogrammed.the car was returned, allegedly repaired, however, the problem continues.this vehicle is frequently driven with a small child as passenger and this type of safety defect is certainly problematic.we have gotten no satisfaction from the dealer of purchase nor from a different mitsubishi dealer in town.coincidentally, while in for most recent service, another customer was there with the same problem and had also purchased her mirage from ricart megmall.
When attempting to accelerate and upon depressingaccelerator pedalvehicle hesitated andlost all power, which could lead to an accident. Also, noticed a cranking noise when accelerating. Consumer has contacteddealer, dealer unable to determine the cause.please provide any further details.
