I had problems with the power locks, they will not open, leaks from the sunroof. The horn completely stopped working after three years. The mitsubishi dealer never issued a ball joint recall which i now found out was defective with the car and after returning my vehicle upon my lease termination they are requesting 1000 + dollars for wear and tear etc. The dealer has not properly followed guidelines and are been sued because of these failures and the customers who purchased these cars are been charged more money by the dealer.

Transmission fluid dipstick impossible to read, notified dealer, dealer said that's just how it is designed. I'm worried because tranmissions are a common failure on this generation of mitsubishi galant. Can this be corrected by a dipstick redesign?

My wife was stopped at a traffic light, tried to take off, but nothing.transmission was gone.dealer said things sometimes happen.manufacturer said warranty was out at 60,000mi.estimate was at $2600.shop said it could not be rebuilt.they tried to blame on us and said it was over full on fluid.we've never put one drop in and even if it was over full it would not cause transmission to seize up in a matte of seconds.we had the car five months when this happened.i am very angry at the dealership and the mfg.for not disclosing this transmission problem.when i asked if this was a common problem they said, "oh, no"!

On march 20, 1999 i purchased the mitsubishi galant from mark escude toyota of 955 i-20 s. Frontage rd jackson< ms 39204 (601) 948-3420.after leaving the dealership, about 15-20 miles away the transmission went out & had to be towed back.on march 24, 1999 we returned back to the dealership, 2 hours away, to pick up the car.now, almost 30000 miles later the transmission has gone out once again, making this the third transmission to be placed in the vehicle.after going online & doing checks on the '96 galant's transmission i discovered that there was cases after cases of the same galant s series in which i have where the transmission was having to be replaced. Undoubtabley, there is something in this paticular model that is causing the transmission to fail.i have spoken with 2 differrent people with mitsubishi motors & they feel that it is just coinsidence that the same year, make, & model with the same type transmission have the same problem.please look into this problem because i feel that by putting another transmission in the car will not solve anything but only ruin another transmission costing the consumer.dt

Transmission had trouble shifting for a few days.at certain speeds the transmission would all of a sudden act like it was in neutral and then pop back into gear.one day, while attempting to take off from a stop light, the transmission would not go into gear.after replacing that one, we are starting to experience the same type of problems.especially early in the morning when you first attempt to take off the car will not move.even after letting it warm up for 10-15 minutes the same thing happens.sometimes it will do the same thing when you take off from a stop sign into traffic.we just pray that when we get into the middle of the road it will pop back into gear.i hate this car and i am having trouble getting rid of it.evidentally everyone is aware of the transmission problem--except mitsubishi.

Transmission failed suddenly @ 96,498 miles in 1996 mitsubishi galant vin# [xxx].....coleman taylor transmission/memphis tn attempted to rebuild transmission for 3 weeks.....had to remove and get another rebuilt transmission......4 days after picking car up.....gears 1-3 slam severely in and out of gears up and down......gears 4-5 ok an expressway......reported prob to coleman taylor....suggested (on a saturday) to remove ground from battery to re-set computer and told to test drive....test drove and transmission began slamming in and out of gears 1-3 severely and making a terrible noice, causing driver to run into a ditch.....car is expected to be determined a totaled by progressive ins today...........air bag did not deploy either.........caused a $75.00 towing and fine by memphis police dept for failing to maintain outlook (they felt sorry for us!)...

Transmission slams into gear after starting from first to second then from second to first. Got diagnostics test done at cantins in laconia they stated that the park/neutral switch was wet they cleaned it then stated it was fine. Picked car up and they hadn't fixed the problem for the check engine light came back on and remains on with the problem still occuring. Also, had a recall on this car for the lateral control arm boot assembly . Cantins said it was fine on the car but think that there is a problem with it for when i brake it has a grinding sound to it.

Car was running in park; my 8 year old daughter got in car; i was standing right outside of car; she climbed into the front of car to retrieve an object, her foot was caught between the drink holder and the gear shifter; car went into reverse with my daughter inside and crashed into a mailbox; the shift lock cable did not work as it should (the brake pedal must be depressed for the car to be put into reverse); manufacturer does not care, and will not fix damages to car; manufacturer just wants to make more money by replacing the shift lock cable for $300.00; does not care about the damage to my car

Lower front ball joints had a lot of play. Vehicle was making loud noises when making turns. Taking vehicle to dealership to have mechanic check it. - the contact owns a 1996 mitsubishi galant.during routine maintenance checks the mechanic discovered rust on the frame under the vehicle in front of each rear wheel.the current mileage was 157000 and the failure mileage was 155000. Updated 2/27/2007 -

The contact owns a 1996 mitsubishi galant.while attempting to change a flat tire, the jack went straight through the frame while the vehicle was being lifted.the contact had the vehicle towed to a shop and they informed him that there was excessive rust in the rear subframe.the contact sold the vehicle rather than have it repaired.the failure mileage was 150,000.

Subframe bolt broke in half - dealer can't remove old bolt and replace - said they 'never break'

The rear undercarriage of my 1996 mitsubishi galant has severe rust damage to the point that you cannot even jack up the car as the jack penetrates they sub frame. The strut from the right rear also came loose from the tower. The rear wheels that are attached to the sub frame are extremely unsafe.

While driving the car pulls to the left.please describe.

I currently bought the 1996 mitsubishi galant for my wife and 11 month old daughter. The dealer told me i needed a front end alignment to get the pull and shake out of my front end.i took it to an alignment shop and the ase master tech. Told me my control arms were bent due to corrosion of the ball joint, he then told me there was a recall on these vehicles and if i don't get the problem fixed it could result in a loss of steering. I don't think it would be safe for my wife to lose steering with our infant daughter so now i got bigger problems then a twenty five dollar front end alignment. I'm upset at the dealer for not informing me with these recalls not the manufacture for making the bad part. Please help before it is too late.

Consumer had left front ball joint repaired under recall last year.6 months later, right ball joint broke.consumer had repaired it.on 9/14/02 left ball joint broke again while driving, causingwheel to fall off.

While driving at 50 mph the ball joint came out of joint, causing the axle to break.a recall was received on the ball joints and the vehicle was taken in for inspection.the dealer passed the vehicle off, stating that the suspension and ball joints were ok.now we are having a hard time getting both mitsubishi and/or the dealer that passed it off to accept responsibility after another mechanic has since checked said it was caused by a faulty ball joint.

Recall received on ball joint, ball joint boot. Took car to dealership and the service department checked it and said it was ok on 7/28/00. On 9/4/00 the ball joint broke, causing the left front wheel to turn sideways and causing a crash.

I have had nothing but problems with my sun roof, brakes, gas, acceleration and over heating of my car. My sun roof about every other month something goes wrong with it every time i open it. My breaks have been replaced about 4 or 5 times because the wear out quick. When i break my tiers skip the car stops but the tiers keep turning. My gas is gone quick and i only drive here in town from work to home to daycare.sometimes when i turn my car on the speedometer moves by its self as if i were pushing the gas peddle and my foots on the break when it does it by its self and it does it when i'm driving. I can drive a block and my car gets really hot and the fan is on right away. I can't stand my care anymore its nothing but problems for a while.

While driving on the highway at about 50mphaccelerator stuck and could not be pulled up or jiggled loose.the engine as a result was revving in the red zone for about a minute while it was decided to put the car into neutral, brake, pull over & turn the car off.the car was stopped a mere 100 yards from a traffic jam due to construction.this could have led t oa fatal accident had nathan not had the presence of mind to do what he did.this car was bought for the safety of my wife and children; luckily they were not in the car when this happened as my wife stated she would not have known to shift into neutral, and would have probably ended up crashing.the shop where the car was taken stated that the cables were frozen and it was due to manufacturers defect.

Left window loose.

My 1996 mitsubishi galant had several problems including, brake pads had to be changed more than usual, transmission completely failed while parked. In addition, the windows /windshield were constantly foggy. The start key could only be taking out by pressing the break.
