The harmonic balancer suddendly broke one day as i was driving to work.the mitsubishi dealer said that it seemed to be a very commom occurance and complaint and therefore had many parts in stock. I bought my 94 mitsubishi galant in december of 1998. The first time my alternator belt broke was august of 1999. Since then my belt has been replaced 12 times (7 times the belt was replaced by a mechanic). Most of the time, my husband or myself have been driving when the belt brakes leaving us stranded on the side of the road. The belt also squeaks really bad. I've tried to get this problem fixed, but no one seems to know what is causing it to squeak. I've had alternator's replaced, belts replaced, and the pulley adjusted. None of it worked, but i still had to pay for it. Please help me.

Lower ball joint - front: left ball joint came off while driving off the driveway. Had it replaced ($391.00) at pep boys. A few weeks later, i received a safety recall notice (sr-99-002) from mitsubishi. Took my car to the dealer on 7/15/99. The dealer replaced the right arm assembly on the other side free of charge. As instructed on the "reimbursements" section of the recall notice, i brought the original paid invoices to glendale mitsubishi for reimbursement. Hand them to mark toohey, service advisor. After calling him several times, he told me he gave them to the service manager, and that the manager would be calling me back regardin the status of my claim. No call received. I then came in person to see the service manager, he said that he never received the invoices, at his request i gave him copies. He told me that he would call me back. I have calledto check the status of my claim, and only get the same answer: i will be called back, or my check will be mailed as soon as mitsubishi reimburses glendale mitsubishi first. As of today, november 18, 1999, i have neither been called neither have i received a check in the mail. The ball joint to driver's side broke while i was driving down road at 50mph, the car veered to left and skidded about 500 feet before i could get vehicle to stop. When i did the driver tire was perpendicular to the car and the base of motor was resting on the ground. After mitsibushi repaired the ball joint and half shaft that also broke. I transported it to ocala florida from odessa texas on a car carrier since that point i have learned all 4 motor mounts were broken. I contacted mitsibushi because it is my understanding that for all 4 to break substantial trauma would have had to occur, the car has not other trauma except the wreck in odessa when the ball joint snapped. Mitsibushi told me to take it to a local dealer here, i did and now they are declining to fix motor mounts that i contend were broken during that wreck. I have a complete file of events and receipts and names i would like to send via mail to your association if possible please provide me with a mailing address so i can fully explain the situation and provide the proof i have relating to the entire situation. I have been so financially and emotionally strained on this incident that i have been having problems with this car since 8 days after i purchased it used, but purchased to have reliable transportation and yet i have had more uncertainty with this car than anything all related t a ball joint recall. Steering wheel and column weaves while driving causing loss of control.yh

No summary listed for this vehicle.

While making a right turn driver lost control ofvehicle and hit 3 parked vehicles.vehicle and other 3 vehicles were totaled.dealer couldn't find cause.

I experienced a problem with the crank pully that when i was driving that the car lost all control of the steering and power, mitsubishi towed my vehicle and repaired the part because it was under warranty, but this same problem occured again in 2001 with my wife and children were in the car and lost control of the steering and could not drive the vehicle, i was told that the vehicle is no longer under warranty and that i would have to pay for the repair when it seems to me that this is not normal to happen that many times to one vehicle even after it was just recently repaired and that it was not even that long of a time that the same problem occurred with the same part that was replaced new by mitubishi.also i believe that this problem should be reported immediately to the manufacturer because loss of steering can cause a fatal accident at any speed in the wrong place where an accident can occur.i was told that there wasa recall on another make of the mitsubishi but not on the.

When i took my car in for a recall inspection of my front ball joint boot i was informed by the mitsubishi service technician that both of my front lower control arms and ball joints were dangerously worn.this was not covered by the recall because the boots were intact, however.it seems that, given that the parts have clearly had other failures as evidenced by the recall, they are prone to premature wear that should be the manufacturers responsibility.this seems unacceptably premature for this kind of failure, and i have not experienced or heard of these parts failing at such low mileage on other vehicles.i think the situation indicates that the parts or design are dangerously inadequate, but that mitsubishi is trying to tie it to boot failure to minimize their financial responsibility (the cost for replacement was $479).i was also informed by the mitsubishi service advisor at the dealer (erik rekdal) that he has experienced these early control arm/ball joint failures as a common occurrence on vehicles like mine.

I received a recall notice for the lower ball joints boots of my vehicle due to improper installation of the assembly at the factory. I took my vehicle in for the recall repair and they said that since the boot wasn't damaged they would not repair it. They did note that both ball joints were bad and needed to be replaced. I feel this is a defective part and that they are trying not to eat the cost of the repair. I question how many other customers had to have this part repaired they would not give me statistics on the number, i contacted the customer relations at mitsubishidan merril and he denied any repairs. I feel that they are trying not to accept this is a faulty part on their vehicle. I have never had to replace a ball joint on any vehicle i have owned i find it strange that both are bad and there is a safety recall on a related part the ball joint boot. Please investigate this matter further and please call me at home if you need any further assistance .the safety recall notice is # sr-99002. I have been trying to determine the poping noise in my vehicle since 30000 miles. They say that the part failing is normal wear and tear. Ya right!.......thats why their is a recall.

I took my vehicle to a mitsubishi dealer for a recall on the suspension independent front control arm lower ball joint and was told by the mistubishi service department that my vehicle was not affected with the recall and that i would have to pay several hundred dollars to get it repaired with them. I therefore purchased the parts from the mitubishi parts department and had another mechanic replace the ball joints and booting at a lower price but with mitsubishi's parts.since then i was told that there was another recall on the same parts that we were having trouble with and that i should bring the vehicle in again and that they would take a look at it.i was very shocked that after owning several vehicles over the years that i had never had to pay anything for parts or repair and was totally shocked.also there will be two other reports filed for other complaints that i have had on defective parts with mitsubishi.thank you.

Thanks sincerely [xxx]. Parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Regarding the headlights: they have been flickering/dimming during decceleration since i bought my car (it had 47k miles approx). Ak

The wheel of my daughter's mitsubishi galant fell off!while pulling into the driveway at our home, the galant's ball joint on the lower lateral control arm failed. The ball joint pulled out of the socket and the transaxle pulled out of the transmission.this resulted in the wheel falling against the wheel well (literally falling off the car!)there was no grease in the ball joint socket.thankfully, this occurred at a very low rate of speed.if it had happened on the expressway, it would have definitely caused a serious accident!this 1994 galant has only 86,000 miles on it, and has no open recalls.my daughter had taken this vehicle to a certified mechanic about a week before the incident because she sometimes heard a grinding noise coming from the wheel area.the shop wrongly diagnosed the problem as tie rod ends.they said there were no immediate safety concerns.

Vehicle experienced failure of the recall component on two occasions prior to recall notice (99v-066), however denied due to additional work necessary to correct problems, pulling to side (inner and end tie rods replaced additionally). Mjs

A near miss. The nut on the lower control arm came off on drivers side. 75 mph and thank goodness i was strong to pull the asphalt eating front end to the side. Going downhill heard what was thought to be a pebble hit the underside of the car and then was being pulled under the oncoming semi. Upon finally stopping on the shoulder, i got out looked at my tire sitting perpendicular to the car, the cars front end sitting on the ground,(i have photo's) i looked back to see a grove and a black line traveling from the left lane to the center line back to the left lane and to my galant's resting place. At 48 years old i have driven many a car, never have i come so near to meeting my maker. The mechanic, 300 miles from my home said the ball joint boot failed and allowed the bolt to become loose and the travel just unscrewed the nut. All the threads were there, non were stripped. 3 days later i bravely loaded myself and my younger sister into the car with some make due repairs and a new lower control arm, a put back together with duct tape and a prayer cv axle( was pull out as far as it could go, a new slightly smaller new tire, and a $1000.00 poorer, i slowly made myself drive back home. Now i hear noises on the other side. Now i have started looking for places like this the air my complaints. I was fortunate. As an older person, a woman and original owner, i would have thought i would have received a recall, i didn't. Have had the same address for 16 years. Didn't know about it until i got here.
