While driving approximately 50 mph, the steering failed when attempting to steer to the right.the vehicle went across a median into oncoming traffic and crashed into a guard rail.the air bag did not deploy.the driver was transported to the emergency room for injuries to the back, neck, and knee.the cause of the failure has not been determined.please provide further details.*ph

Tl-the contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. The contact stated that another vehicle that was driving at 70 mph and crashed into her vehicle causing the vehicle to crash into the vehicle in front. The seat belt failed to retract and the air bags failed to deploy. As a result, the contacts head hit the windshield and bruised her legs. The contact did not require medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the contacts house. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 156,000. Djr

Violent deployment of the air bag caused eye injury to the driver, the consumer may have sustained permanent injury to the left eye.nlm

When driving consumer has noticedair bag light flashing off and on. Consumer has contacted dealer.dealer has made repairs, but problem still occurs.consumer statesproblem was finally repaired after 3 times dealer had to replace entire driver seat back portion, loose wiring to side air bag was causing problem.

Srs light for airbags come on intermittently. Consumer states that the passenger side air bags have been replaced twice, the side seatback air bag has been replaced once, air bag computer has been replaced once, and the driver side seatback air bag has been replaced once, vehicle was purchased by mitsubishi for lemon law.

Vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times becausesrs light were coming on. Consumer was in an accident on 04-may-2001, andairbas didn't deploy. Consumer was traveling 30 mph and a motorcyle hit front driver's side.itflipped off onto windshield, breaking on impact. Mitsubishi hasn't responded toconsumer.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse.while driving between 45-55 mph, the contact attempted to avoid another vehicle and some approaching deer.as a result, she crashed into some trees and the air bags failed to deploy.the vehicle was destroyed and the contact was injured.the current and failure mileages were 148,000.

Vehicle was involved in a side collision from another vehicleat a impact of 30 mph. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. Dealer/manufacturer were not contacted at this time.

Consumer was traveling about 40mph onhighway and anothervehiclemade a left turn in front of consumer's vehicle.when consumer appliedbrakes vehicle crashed into the other vehicle. Upon impact, driver's side airbag didn't deploy.there were minor injuries.both the driver and passenger side air bag failed to deploy.

Driver seriousely injured as result of seat failure, driver throwen back and then forward in rear end crash, seat belt useless and air bags did not open.

Whenever vehicle has been started srs light would come on and remain on until vehicle has been shutdown. Sometimes srs would flash off/on. Had taken vehicle to dealership, and mechanic replaced passenger's seat back due to side air bag wiring being defective.

I am the technician who repaired this defect. The vehicle was a no start, no crank complaint. Also vehicle had no dash or accessory power. The main ignition feed from the underhood fusebox had no power at the ignition switch & testing proved it was shorted to ground. There were also several other components with no power such as pin 16 at dlc, starter & anti-theft relays. These circuits are hot at all times. After extensive troubleshooting i found a severely burned and shorted wire harness that rubbed through the insulation from contacting thesharp edges of the fender sheet metal. This harness runs from the under hood fusebox through the fender well to the junction block under the dash. There were no blown fuses found as a result of this which is highly unusual with the amount of current on these circuits. The fix was to splice/repair the damaged harness and relocate the harness as much as possible from the fender sheet metal. This is a huge fire hazard.

The 30 amp fuse connection that controls the a/c-heater blower motor, burns out in the fuse block. I have replaced the fuse block 3 times and they end up burning out this circuit. This could easily start an electrical fire should the fuse be faulty and not blow itself out...

Dt*: the contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle stalled completely without warning.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer where the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the problem.the vehicle was then taken to a private repair shop, where the mechanic was also unable to determine the cause of the problem.

When attempting to start the vehicle after driving for a while the car would not start. I would have to move the cable harness and clamp around the battery posts to get a good connection so the car would start. I could not tighten the nut and bolt any further without breaking the bolt that secured the clamp around the battery post. I could not get my air conditioning unit to work since august of 2019when parking my vehicle, then removing my key from the ignition, then opening the door to exit the vehicle, the horn activated and would not stop until removing the clamps to the battery posts. The front lights would start to flash if all doors were locked and the car was in park and the trunk door was opened with key. Thepassenger side window would not at times operate even after the regulator and motor was replaced. The key phos would not lock my car and the car would not flash front and tail lights or chirp to recognize locking signal from the key phos. The dashboardilluminates except for the fuel gauge side. The clock light dims when the car key is placed in the starting position from park and while running then brightens when the car key is placed in the off position and at park. The car was running better before being inspected at jerry's mitsubishi at 1906 east joppa road baltimore md. 21234 between 12-4 p.m. On29 july 2020. I was expecting to have my vehicle repaired at the time of my appointment and was told that the person who had inspected my vehicle had left for the day and that some of the parts that were needed for repair had to be ordered. I specifically told the person who did the inspection that i beleived i knew what the problems were coming from and that i looked into the nhtsa website and saw that this vehicle was having the same problems as the nhtsa campaign number 99v333001.

I was driving 60 - 65 on the high way,all of the sudden the car slowed down to 25 without any warning and engine turned off by itself. I could get out safely in god's will coz a truck was driving on the right side while am trying to take the shoulder of the street and my car is slowing down fast because of the engine is off, and the truck driver brakes so hard and lots of cars were almost hit him, they brake as well, it was scary

Recall notice 99v305001 the turn signals wont cancel and wont stay on and the headlights stay on.i contacted the dealer and mitsubishi customer service 800 222-0037 and both say my car is not part of the recall.the turn signals don't work when the car is in motion and the headlights stay on when i parked and turned off the car.

Also the person that did the sunvisor recall repair gave me a dirty and/ or used passenger side sun visor tether strap assembly. I was also charged 130 dollars for a miscellaneous diagnostic which states could not duplicate customers concern at this time and i would like to have that same 130 dollars refunded back to me and the $160 dollars for air conditioning inspection deducted from the costs of repairs. I had previously taken this vehicle totowsontowne garage in towson md. For service and was informed to have the air conditioning unit serviced by mitsubishi because he could not locate where the wiring was for or leading to the compressor. Towsontowne garage never mentioned anything about needing a condenser or timing belts on july 22nd 2020.

While driving at night on interstate, one headlight dimmed and then went out completely.repairshop was unable to repair because headlight socket was melted.referred me to mitsubishi dealer.before repair completed, the second headlight went out while driving at night on interstate on subsequent evening.fog lights were also not operational.only parking lights operational.it appears from other complaints that this is a chronic lighting safety issue with the mitsubishi eclipse.

I have 2 complaints.my wheels were also dented and fractured upon inspection and had visible wear to my tires.two different garages had stated to go to the dealer and check on it.they of course said there was no problem and just to buy new rims at $385.00 each or tires.of course, after buying tires a few times, i just bought after market rims.the second complaint, is i have had visible corrosion on the battery cables on my car for years and asked the dealer if there was a reason so much is gathering, they advised no.well, i have replaced the battery and still am having the same problems such as: air conditioner goes out with the light blinking, car does not start, or while driving it will stall as well as run very sluggish.i have asked repeatedly if there is a problem and they stated not for my car, due to the date made.i find this a little odd, i have all the same problems of the 2000 eclipse, however, my car was made "during the dates".my car is a 2000 eclipse gt and my battery wires have shown visible signs of corrosion for years and not being a mechanic how would i have though anything different than changing the battery, as well as getting new tires and new after market rims for the same price as stock rims.

2000 mitsubishi eclipse with a shock rupture due to rust. Consumer states that it is rare that rust in that amount happen on the interior of the vehicle. She states that the manufacturer was not going to investigate her claims.the consumer discovered 3 recalls for her make, model and year for her vehicle. The consumer stated she had already experienced the failures of the recalls. The column switch was replaced because the unit would not self-cancel nor would it cancel manually. The switch would not reset in an off position which caused the lights to remain on once the vehicle had been turned off. The steering wheel vibrated frequently, even when traveling on a straight highway. The consumer also had repeated problems with the engine not starting and always assumed the problem was the battery which the consumer had replaced multiple times. The low oil pressure lamp illuminated frequently, even when the oil was not low. The recall was only for v6 engine's, however the consumer experienced the same problem with her 4 cylinder engine. Recallnumbers 99v333001, 99v305001 and 00v225001.

While having the bumper fixed my collision shop discovered the wiring harness is melting. This is the same problem as nhtsacampaign id number : 99v333001 -- recall date : november 23, 1999 --component: electrical system:battery:cables --except that i do not have a v-6 engine. I believe another recall should be initiated to cover eclipse's that do not have the v-6 engine as it is the same problem and poses the same risks as the earlier recall.

Dt: the contact stated the battery cablebroke. This was the negative post. The replacement part has been ordered, andit will be repaired when the replacementpart arrives. She called and checked for any recalls, and there have not been any recalls.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse.in november of 2007, the contact had to replace the battery and the negative terminal due to corrosion.several months later, the vehicle would not start and was towed to a local mechanic.the mechanic stated that the failure was caused by a defective fuse and it was replaced.the dealer stated that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 99v333001 (electrical system:battery:cables).the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer.they have not provided any assistance.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 65,000.

Car opts not to start due to either failure in the theft-immobilization system or the starter kill in the clutch.

While driving at 50 mph, all of a suddenspeeddrops from 5o mph to 20 mph without warning. Driver was able to exit off the road safely.dealership and manufacturer were sent a certified letter about the problem. A new engine and a new computer chip were put into the vehicle. Please provide any further information.

At approx. 55,000 miles, the starter relay burned out and vehicle could not be started. Symptoms were erratic indicator lights on dashboard and unpredictable behavior of all electrical devices. For example, the cd player spontaneously ejected the cd. Replacing the starter relay solved the problem. Given that this occurs without warning and with no clear indication of what's wrong, it can easily lead to stranded motorists when the fault is with a very inexpensive, inadequately designed electrical component.

Wiring harness for the head lamp assembly smoked and burned.head lamps inoperable.

2000 mitsubishi eclipse - headlights simply did not come on.cables to connections were totally melted.had to drive home with parking lights on.called dealer and the response was "this happens all the time". I had to purchase new connections and pay to have them installed.

Wiring to headlights , hot ground wire, the ground wire gets so hot that it melted the plugs that connects the wires to the headlight. The ground wire heats up to where it is flaming red and it keeps popping fuses one right after the other.

I am now replacing the second headlamp connection socket on my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. Both have failed by buildup of corrosion of the socket material, dimming of the headlamp, heating and melting of the socket material to failure. Two safety issues exist: first the possibility of a fire in the engine compartment from the over heated connector and melted wiring. Second the gradual dimming of the headlamp leads to inadequate illumination of the road during operation after dark. The local dealer knew the part before i could fully explain, leading me to believe the failure is widespread.

Headlight wiring harness melted after original bulbs were replaced with correct aftermarket component.dealer commented that every eclipse that has replacement headlight bulbs has burned the wiring harness.when this component fails, it leaves the driver with neither a high or low beam light.should both burn- out in rapid succession a serious accident would likely occur.also with wiring melting under the hood the chance of fire or electrical shorting of other components seems very likely.in doing research on this problem, i found a report that states that mitsubishi has changed the wiring harness to a heavier gauge.my assumtion is that it is to prevent this hazard in cars currently being produced.with mitsubishi's track record regarding recalls, i feel this defect should be investigated.please feel free to contact me at any time in regard to this matter.

1) a common issue according to the forums and facebook groups, the strut towers rust through which presents a safety issue when considering that the suspension is connected to the steering which could put an individual or others on the road at risk2) yet another common issue, the dash and associated bezels crack over time. There has been no solution or alternative to complete replacement from anyone, including (i'm sure) mitsubishi.

When putting car under full throttle, intake manifold splits at the part where it connects to the throttle body. This causes engine to shut down while driving, including loss of power steering, etc. Can be very dangerous.replacement of manifold is $300+ for labor and $600+ for parts. Many others with same engine type (4g64) have had exact same problem.

Consumer states while driving vehicle without warning and at any speed, vehicle will shake, mechanic states all four rims are dented resulting in vehicle shaking.consumer states this also causes the steering to shake.dealer had to secure clamp due to vehicle losing antifreeze.brake light illuminated, dealer replaced front brake pads.sunroof would not tilt, dealer reset the sunroof glass.

My car has been making a strange sound, so i took it in to the dealership yesterday.they discovered that i was out of oil- though there have been no obvious oil leaks, and the oil light has never come on.due to this, extensive damage was found through out the engine.i was told that the oil lights don't always work.

Car stalled at a stop light for no reason and had difficulty starting again.while driving, car would suddenly lose then regain power.has happened 6 times while driving in the last 3 days.

I had no problem out of car leading up to the point at hand. I started the car and turned on the heat.the car ran for about 30 to 35 minutes.ar was warm inside, i had to turn the heat off.i left my friends house headed up north i81.my car had no signs of problems. The car shot flames out either side of the car and my engine had exploded.i coasted down the road to put the flames out pulled into the emegency lane. Jumped out told my girlfriend to get out and away from the car.the engine was on fire still at this point.luckaily a friend of mine had been following me and had something to extinguish the rest of the fire. The car was sold to me with the remainer of the power train warrenty.a mitsubishi rep read the computer codes.he said since the water temp read 64 degrees the car had been abused.mitsubishi never contacted me to see if i had maintenance records. Which indeed i do have those documents. Plus i had 7 witnesses that night that knew the heat was working fine, meaning the water temp was above 64 degrees.now how can a low water temp cause an engine to throw a rod. And catch on fire?o action was taken it actually took mitsubishi 3 months to decide the care would not be covered under warranty.

Consumers daughter was driving, noticed black smoke coming through air conditioning vents, vehicle looked to be on fire, consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they could not determine what had cause the fire.prior to the fire, the engine would start, air condition was inoperative, sunroff was inoperative, mirror were inoperative, emergency brake was inoperative needed to be readjusted, fog lights stayed on even with the key out of ignition, windshield wiper was inoperative, cargo cover was loose, there was a problem with the power steering

I was sitting in the car with it idling eating diner. I noticed smoke coming from under the hood and went inside and called the fire dept. When i returned the car was ingulfed in flames. The car was a total loss. My insurance co hired a fire investegator to investigate. It was determind to be a mfg. Defect that is all the information i was given. My insurance co. Is allstate and they paid the car off and of what i owed on the car. I lost my down payment of 2,000 dollars. I don't think i should of lost anything on something that was there fault. I talked to the mitsubishi co several times and they told me sorry my tough luch and my loss. I would like any help you could give me on this. There were no police on the seen but the fire dept. Made a reportof this accedent.

Vehicle is subject to losing power or shutting down while being driven40-50 mph.dealership is unable to detect cause of problem.please describe details.

While driving at 50 mph, all of a suddenspeeddrops from 5o mph to 20 mph without warning. Driver was able to exit off the road safely.dealership and manufacturer were sent a certified letter about the problem. A new engine and a new computer chip were put into the vehicle. I purchased my car new from modesto mitsubishi.at the timeit was noted that the sunfroof molding was not installed correctly and was to be replaced.i started having problems with overheating, electrical malfuntions, mirrors, clock, casettedoor defect, also sunroof openedonly while getting on highway. I took vehicle to dealer, and ended up having to rent a car for about 3 1/2 weeks while they replaced warped head.when i picked up my car, thesunroof molding still not replaced, the car stereo i was told they had to order, the sunroof i was told was ok.i worked 2 hours from home making it difficult to make arrangements for vehicle to be left again.when i did call and question the stereo i was told that it had been sent back and the and that they would have to keep it. Again i would have to rent vehicle.the most recent reccuring issue is the ungodly mold smell coming from driver and passenger door, the car cuts out while trying to excellerate onto freeway, pass vehicles, going up roads.while getting on freeway i have tried to excellerate finding myself flooring gas and not being able to achieve more than 20 miles per hour with oncoming traffic, same as going up hill.my paint has started oxidizing in white spots throughout hte vehicle and when i took to dealers 3 weeks ago, explained smelli was told the smell was from airconditioner propably and then asked how many miles i had on car regarding paint.then aked to come back in an hour. This is after i had called earlier and told to bring in. Regardless of miles it is the same year as every other 2000 with out spots.and it has been keptkept it in my garage since april 2002 other than leaving 2 times a day to pick up child at schoo and occasional road trips.i have been driving a second vehicle.i feel very apprehensive when i go to dealership due to them saying they are not going to do anything.i have sent car in with 2 seperate people getting the run around as well.

Air conditionerleaking fluid.

The air conditioner compressor is "frozen".inspite of near perfect driving conditions and california weather.headlights bulbs holders on both sides burned/melted. Both headlights inoperable. Same problem as nhtsa complaint id: 45076, and also id: 344396. Although i had both original factory installed bulbs.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. The contact stated that the air conditioning condenser was not draining properly and would intermittently become clogged. The dealer advised they could drain and repair the failure at the owners expense. The manufacturer was contacted but would provide no assistance. The vin was not available and the failure and current mileages were 124,000.

When depressing the clutch while in motion the gear would not shift properly or not at all into first/secondor third gear. This almost caused a vehicle crash. They informed consumer that the vehicle was not covered under a recall.the clutch problem was a daily intermittent problem.the a/c had gone out as well. *sc

A/c suction hose failure/coolant leaked out.right out of warranty.

The air conditioner hose failed.nlm

Cd player failed.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse.the contact stated that the headlights and other exterior lighting no longer work on his vehicle.his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 99v305001 (exterior lighting:turn signal:headlights).the failure and current mileages were 114,000.

Left headlight dimmed.discovered left headlight socket corrosion and melted.

The turn signal switch broke off the vehicle, making it impossible difficult to signal when making a turn. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer.the consumer also couldn't use the high beams.

Both the right and left headlamp on my wife's 2000 mitsubishi eclipse stopped working (both high and low beams) at the exact same time. Upon investigating, we found that all fuses were ok, but the headlamp wiring harnesses had melted.this is the same problem that has been reported in case numbers 10145878, 10111932, and 10100237.if this problem occured in the middle of a night-time drive, it could create a very dangerous situation.

Both headlights failed while driving the car at night.told by dealership that the connections to the bulbs had melted and that this was a defect in the design.left to drive with out any headlights.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

I purchased a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt in 2001 and recently the left head lamp dimmed and i thought the head lamp needed to be replaced. I purchased a new bulb only to discover the head lamp harness had been melted. Shortly there after i driving home after sunset and both head lamps went out. All i could do was turn on my fog lamps to get light to see where i was going. I live in rural area and without any street lamps i could not even see the road. Once i arrived home i had my husband check the head lamp and the right head lamp harness is now melted as well. Mitsubishi should be held accountable for defective parts and design. I am very thankful that both my children had not been in the car with me when the head lamps decided to go. Additionally, my husband did verify that the fuses were not blown. I have read of others with the same year and model eclipse with the same problem.

Consumer contacted the dealer in reference to nhtsa recall 99v305000/manufacturer'srecall sr98002. Vehicle was at the dealer all day, recall work was not completed.

Wiring harness for headlamps overheated and melted, resulting in both headlamps failing. Neither regular or high beams work. Repair cost $300. Apparently this is a common problem. Mitsubishi should repair this design defect at its own expense.

The right front headlight of my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse burned out. After taking the vehicle to a mechanic it was revealed that the plastic holding the bulb had melted. The bulb could not be replaced without more extensive work.

I have a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. I had a defective headlight wiring harness that overheated and melted.i had it replaced at schaumburg mitsubishi. I do not have the old part.

The plastic socket that the light bulbs screw into are rusted and corroded. This caused headlights to malfunction while driving.

2000 mitsubishi eclipse headlamp connector failure.both headlamp connectors melted.

The headlights turn on at random times.my auto repair center says it is a known issue, but the recall covers vehicles made up to the month before mine was made.i have the same problem as described in nhsta campaign # 99v305001

After turningon the turn signal, it came on and off on its own. Consumer tookvehicle to the dealership for analysis.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubish eclipse. The contact stated that the turn signal lever detached from the steering column and she was unable to use turn signals. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was made aware of the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 99v305001 (exterior lighting:turn signal:switch). The manufacturer was then notified and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 145,000.

My turn signal lever broke and was hanging by the wires.my right and left turn signals went off alternately as i was trying to manually turn them off by pressing the broken lever back in.i researched the internet to find that my car (2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt) had a recall on the lever (mitsubishi recall # 990wnd0093 and nhtsa recall #99v305).my car was at a mitsubishi dealer for service along with the broken lever and i was told that the broken lever wasn't on a recall.i called mitsubishi (800-222-0037) and was referred to a case manager and she informed me that my vin# didn't correspond to that recall.she said the recall was for cars manufactured up until october for the year and mine was manufactured in november (1 month later).she said although i experienced the problems stated in the recall exactly, my car wasn't eligible.i had to pay $135.00 to get the lever replaced.this is ridiculous as turn signal levers do not break (especially at 6 years old) and the fact that my model and year car has a recall on it for the exact thing i experienced but my vin number was not included.i would also like to state that i bought my car from the dealership brand new in 2000.in 2003, my clear coat started coming off and is very bad now as my car is black and the affected areas are white.also, my dashboard has severe cracks all over which started in 2004 and my glove box does not work because the plastic broke around the lock broke and i have to manually open it with some tools.i called mitsubishi about the paint when it started to happen back in 2003 and was told that it was due to "the elements" and there was nothing they could do.to my amazement, i found several complaints just like mine with the same car on the internet and have seen a few black eclipses with paint/clear coat problems just like mine.i will never buy a mitsubishi car ever again.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse.the contact stated that she was unable to turn the headlights off, which caused the battery to die.as of july 16, 2007, the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.the dealer stated that her vin was excluded from recall # 99v305001 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer:switch/wiring).the vin, powertrain, and engine size were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 53,000.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse.the contact noticed that his turn signal lever was becoming loose.a month later, the turn signal lever fractured and is currently hanging on by the wiring.he discovered nhtsa campaign id number 99v305001 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer:switch/wiring); however, the dealer stated that the recall applied to mitsubishi galants.the manufacturer also stated that the recall did not relate to his vehicle.the current mileage was 131,000 and failure mileage was 130,000.

Turn signal switch is broken.same symptoms as nhtsa recall # 99v305001.dealer advises that my vin does not qualify for replacement.the switch needs replacement and someone needs to be aware that this is still a problem.

The fuel filler has rusted through, resulting in a leak which causes a puddle of gasoline under the car when adding fuel.there are no gas leaks other than when filling, so i assume the leak is limited to the filler portion of the system.

My daughters 2000 mitsubishi eclipse is leaking fuel from the filler tube. Tube rusted out prematurely due to a defective design of a tube cover that allows dirt and mud to collect around the tube where it bends and causes premature rust through. I am an ase certified mechanic and have performed recalls in the past on other vehicles and this is a poor design that could use some investigation. I am replacing the part with the factory original and will be adding a cover that will block the entry of dirt and mud from around the tube.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubhisi eclipse. The contact was refueling when fuel emitted from the gas tank. The contact believed the failure could have occurred due to the build up of rust near the tank. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer but the manufacturer was contacted and the vehicle was repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

Vehicle stalled in heavy traffic and would not re-start.upon troubleshooting reason for no fuel supply, found burnt connector pin on fuel pump housing.fuel pump tested good.heat from poor connection has melted the top of the fuel pump housing.i can smell gasoline vapors.sparking connections or hot, melted parts in this area is a problem.i have photos to document damage.this is a fire hazard!

1. I was filling my gas tank the other day when i spotted a hue leak under the car.2.the filler tube on my mitsubishi eclipse 2000 is totally rusted (dealer report) after not even 8 years since manufacturer. The gas filler is cracked.this is a high risk to both myself and other traffic participants since a leak in the gas system due to the inappropriate manufacturing (totally rust in less than 8 years) could result into something very tragic. 3 immediately after the leak has been seen i took the car to the mitsubishi dealership, they found the problem described above and they said that the entire gas filling circuit must be replaced since it is rusted and deteriorated.

Vehicle engine fire cuased by defective "c" clamp on fuel line.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. The contact stated that while refueling, there was fuel leaking from the vehicle. The contact stated that the fuel lines were rusted and fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.

Auto was purchased new and has been maintained 100% by dealership. Hood latch failure so as not being able to open hood to service engine or anything under hood. Have been advised that bumper has to be cut off to reach hood latch for replacement at owners expense. Nothing has currently been done to fix problem.

I purchased a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. Shortly after the purchase i noticed that i could no longer open the hood. The vehicle has not been in any kind of accident.

- the contact stated that she experienced many different unusual incidents with the 2000 mitsubishi eclipse, beginning with ignition.also states that when she drives 35 - 40 mph the vehicle does not shift into gear consistently.the weather does not seem to be a factor.the contact reports that the most recent transmission hesitancy failure was on12/27/06.

Transmission shifts very poorly into the second gear when vehicle is cold. It was already rebuilt 4k miles ago and now it starts to fail for the seocnd time, dealerships refuse to do anything about it stating that they can not reporduce the problem. Car is very hard and unpleasant to drive when not fully warmed up. More details at www.deadeclipse.com.

I have a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse that has 34000 miles on it, and about a month after i bought it the 2nd gear in the transmisswion kept grinding when shifting and i found out that a lot of other owners are having the same problem so i was wondering if there is a possibility of a recall for the parts involved.

Leakege into transmission from coolant system and excessive transmission fluid in general coolant system

Ongoing problem since vehicle ownership. But is getting worse with age. The gear shift lever has become more and more loose. Mostly around the d (drive). The problem is left to right.

Both rear hub & bearing assemblys were causing vibrations in the car. Car is 3 years old and the mechanic claimed he never had to replace both rear hub assemblys on such a new vehicle. The assembly left no room to lubricate the bearings which caused them to keep in moisture and rust prematurely. Mechanic said the parts were filled with rust fragments to the point he was surprised the tires stayed attached to the axle. Mitsubishi parts supplier said this wasn't a common problem with that model year but said there was a lot of replacement parts being sold.

The rims on my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse have become dented under what would be considered less than normal wear and tear.i have taken exceptional care to protect this car from damage.as an example, after three years of ownership, there is still not a single door dent or chip, due to the fact that i exercise the extra effort to park far away from other vehicles and walk the extra distance to my destination.therefore it's reasonable to assume that i would also steer clear of potholes, etc., and i have the paper work to prove that i have maintained my car according to standards set by mitsubishi.yet despite this level of care, the rims have become damaged.ironically, as this is my first new car, i take better care of it than any car i have ever owned, and yet it is the first car i have had this issue with.when i brought it to the dealership, the factory rep said it was because the air pressure must have been low and i hit a pothole.but yet he won't tell me how he came to that determination.at the same time i brought the car i for the rims, i had brought the car in for the clutch noise issue, and nowhere on the repair order is it mentioned that i requested to have the rims replaced and that my request was denied.nor can i get it from mitsubishi in writing.also, it is my understanding from the dealership that the tires were never removed from my car during the "inspection", so i question its sincerity.i have left two messages with the factory rep to explain to me how he arrived at his determination, and he has still not returned my call.i don't understand why mitsubishi has spent the time and money making a one-piece rim to replace the two-piece rim if they don't recognize that the rims aren't an issue, and why they are replacing some people's rims and not others.hopefully the class action lawsuit currently underway will help me out, because mitsubishi is not being very responsive.

I started noticing a rattle from the clutch/transaxle. It occurs after the vehicle has been driven for at least 30 minutes.the rattle stops when the clutch is pushed in.

The design of the manual transmission, the transmission synchros and the clutch mechanism has been faulty which causes the following parts to fail a lot earlier than any normal vehicle. - the clutch plate gets worn before time- the throw out bearing (tob) has a rattle- the clutch has a rattle- there is very hard gear shift into the 1st and 2nd gear. The 2nd gear is very hard, especially when its cold start.(that is not particularly cold at the end of the month of march in houston, texas)- it is also due to the "poor" synchronizers in the transmission box- this has been reported by a lot of mitsubishi eclipse gt v6 users for the 3rd generation i.e. 2000+ mitsubishi eclipse cars with a manual shift- this is due to substandard transmission and clutch quality from mitsubishi

Clutch was warped from factory, got replaced 4k miles later, new one is also failing at 14000 miles and causes transmission to grind.

Car opts not to start due to either failure in the theft-immobilization system or the starter kill in the clutch.

Cv joint fell out of place, andwhole axel fell while consumer was driving about 45mph on some back roads. There was some damage tofront right corner ofvehicle. Contacted dealer, and dealer will replace the part.`

When depressing the clutch while in motion the gear would not shift properly or not at all into first/secondor third gear. This almost caused a vehicle crash. They informed consumer that the vehicle was not covered under a recall.the clutch problem was a daily intermittent problem.the a/c had gone out as well. *sc

Onmarch 31, 2001, my husband and i purchased a 2001 eclipse for our 17 year old son, to carry him through highschool and college.around 3 hours later he braked to avoid hitting 2 dogs, the left front brake locked up and the others did nothing.this caused the car to swing aroundat 180 degrees and go backwards into a ditch hitting a steel culbert.the police stated that the cause of the accident was the brakes.if working properly, the car could have been controlled.no ticket was given to our son.he and his friend has neck and back pain.hopefully it will heal.the trauma is still there for our son i know.the thought of what could have happened is horrific if he had been by a bluff, on a major interstate or etc.now the car is wrecked, and the expense is ours, this was a gift, he is a responsible child, the brakes that was put on this car could have caused much more damage to these children.i am unsettled on what to do, i am checking into it, hopefully someone will take this serious enough to put a stop to this problem.we thank god for [xxx] and his friends life, but the injury's are there and it is very traumatic.we are thankful not to have been at the point of a funeral for one or both.now [xxx] is shy to drive, believe me, this does traumatized one.the point is, i need help to get this fixed, the brakes, the car, and it not to happen again to anyone, it is to late if they are killed.as a parent i am horrified, does these manufacture not have to be responsible for their parts, no matter the age one life is to much.please help if you can, i will use what ever avenue i have to for help.thank you, sincerely -- [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle does not brake correctly. Minor accident because of the abs system. A knocking noise with floor board vibrations when making turns also occurs. Dealer has attempted 3 repairs and decided to void the manufacturers warranty by accusing customer of tampering with sensors. No further help from dealer or manufacturer. Dangerous and deadly vehicle!

The brakes have not responded twice and now constantly screech for the first five miles of driving it from rest.water builds up in the door after a wash or rain and it smells.

The brakes squealed while driving at any speed. Dealer and independent shopreplacedthe brakes padsand rotors twice, however, the noisestill occurs.

Brake pads on rear of vehicle began squealing with only a few thousand miles on them.it has always been relayed to me that there is a squeal indicator built into the pads to notify you of the need to replace your brake pads.i believe it is a potential hazard to the owner since the brake shoes in the rear squeal constantly now at every use and so the owner gets use to the squeel and the brake pads will go beyond their service life and cause stopping problems.i have been told by the dealer that i just have to live with the squealing because they are semi-metallic brake pads and asbestos is no longer allowed.now if i bought into this answer we wouldn't be able to exist in the city due to all vehicles squealing loudly like my car does when braking. I can not buy into this argument at all.//the alloy wheels on this vehicle are very prone to bending in even the slightest road hazard.i have had two wheels bent and had to completely replace one.the wheel collision place didn't even want the wheel back for a core due to the extent of the bending in the wheel.this wheel didn't take much of a bump and it still bent like this.i do not know the extent of the damage to the wheel as far as the integrity of the wheel after the small road hazard.

Front brake rotors were warped same day when vehicle got delivered brand new, dealership resurfaced them and 9k miles later they became warped again, that is when they got finally replaced on the new ones. Very poor quality of the brake parts!

(1) without any incident or apparent cause the dash of a mitsubishi 2000 rs eclipse started to crack in different places (2) the consequences might be different depending on the circumstances.right now, i get distracted by the cracks on the dash while driving.i do not know how these loose parts will behave on a collision(3) nothing has been done to correct the cracked plastic dash.

Dashboard cracked in 3 different places do to extreme heat and cold.

My car has a defected dash. I am on a forum dedicated to eclipses which lead to this site and all eclipses (00-02 and even starting on 03 i believe) dashes are cracking really bad. My dash alone has several (around 8) cracks and some of those cracks lead to pieces of the dash that isn't even connected anymore. I have 2 free roaming pieces on my dash that will randomly fly off and slide around while turning or shifting the car. Now i don't believe this can cause any car failures or death, but i believe the dashes shouldn't be falling apart for any reason. I think mitsubishi should recall the dash with better and more sturdy material.

I have experienced multiple problems with my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse.i assumed they were all just normal wear and tear until my most recent incident - the cover to my shock, passenger side, completely rusted exposing my shocks and allowing them to pop up, denting my hood and remaining exposed while i drive.since this is such an unusual problem, i began investigating the other issues and they are all related to multiple recalls issued on my vehicle.i contacted mitsubishi to alert them to the defect(s) as well as encourage them to alert other owners of the same model.it took them less than a week to decide not to investigate my car.they haven't even seen the damage.i offered to send photos and they were declined.they didn't even want a licensed mitsubishi dealer to inspect my car.i think their lack of interest and concern is irresponsible and dangerous.

I have a 2000 eclipse gt and the dash is cracked in it.it is made of a cheap plastic that cracks very very easily.i have complained to mitsubishi numerous times and they have done nothing to help me.i know that there are thousands of eclipses that also are having this problem.someone can go to numerous eclipse forums and see this.i feel the dash being cracked can also be a safety hazard.having cracks in the dash make it not as sturdy and could be dangerous when operating the vehicle.if there is any way you guys can forward this on to mitsubishi i would greatly appreciate it.

The dashboard cracked after only a few years.everyone i know with this car has had their dash crack.the part is listed as "instrument panel".

Dash board cracked in multiple locations not sure what the cause of this is vehicle not involved in any collisions that would cause this, suspect material for dash is affected by temperature, never used any chemicals on the dash for cleaning purposes. This has happened in many friends 2000+ model mitsubishi eclipses.

Entire dash cracked from the sun light even though i used a windshield visor since i bought the car in 2000.the cracked dash is becoming a typical thing on 2000 eclipses.

Whenever it rains orvehicle is washed, water would remain ihdoor area.windows would come out of alignment & would remain constantly wet. This would leave an odor of mildew insidevehicle. Bought a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse new. About 3 years later noticed the paint was starting to come off the roof. Took it to the dealership and they said sorry it is not covered, it was probably due to hot texas sun. They did not even log the complaint. That dealership closed later on. Now my paint is off over most of the car and is very ugly. It is down to the metal. I am embarrassed to drive it but tell anyone who will listen that while still under warranty, mitsubishi refused to repaint it. Also all the dashes crack in them. Mine within the first 3 years. There are too many complaints about the black paint on many of the 1999-2005 for there not to be something done about it. My car is almost 9 years old and still has less the 60,000 miles on it. Please someone help all of us drivers with black mitsubishes. I will never buy another.

I suddenly started finding round pieces of broken plastic on the floorboard.it was when i was washing the car and noticed the 2 huge cracks in the dashboard that i realized the pieces of plastic were the "slats" where the defogger air comes out.

Cheap dashboard of a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse has over 5 cracks on it. The cracks are growing and someday it can just fall apart and result in danger while driving.

I have a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt. The dash started cracking about a year and a half ago. Almost every part of the dash is cracked now. I got a quote from a mitsubishi dealer and the cost to replace the dash was $600+. I also checked a salvage yard with no luck at finding a replacement. I am worried that the cracking of the dash will cause an electrical failure or some other failure and i don't have the money to pay for a new one.

Dashboards on the mitsubishi eclipse model years 2000-2005 have a tendency to crack as they are made of plastic. No force is applied that makes them crack, simply heat from the sun or cold temperatures. My dashboard and many thousand others have several cracks and this problem has not been addressed by mitsubishi

Owns a black mitsubishieclipse 2000 and the paintwas peeling badly around the sun roof, the doors, and the hood was gone. I had the spoiler replaced when it was under warranty back in 2002, and now thatwas peeling already. I am wondering what i can do this get this problem corrected. Also the dashboard is falling apart. I have never seen a car fall apart like this.

Black 2000 mitisubshi eclipse brought brand new by myself. There is some kind of defect in the paint causing it to fade to white and then fade completely to the bare metal. This is just in spot along the hood, roof and trunk. This vehicle has not been wrecked and has never been anywhere were an "acid" of other type of damage could happen to it.i have seen numerous other black eclipses with this same problem. I have talked with an owner of the same type year make and model as mine and she has the same problem.

My 2000 mitsubishi eclipse leaks water one the driver and passenger sides.the water leaks from the hatchback area, especially when the car is parked on a downhill position.the hatchback area only has a small hole for the water to drain and it clogs very easily.sometimes it doesn't even clog but somehow the water still does not drain.the service department at mitsubishi "blows out" the hole but this is only a temporary fix.i check it at least once a week and it still floods.the flooding gets so bad that it shorts the speakers and stero equipment which is located under the seat.my car has flooded at least 50 different times since owning this vehicle and the continue to tell me that nothing can be done except for this "blowing out" the hole garbage.don't buy this car if you have to park on any sort of hills.the last time it happened, i had at least 2 inches of water on my passenger side.

I have a black 2000 mitsubishi eclipse.problem1:the hard plastic dashboard deck has cracked all the way across it's width into 3 pieces.the car was never in a wreck or subjected to any unusual forces that would cause it to crack. The replacement cost and especially labor to replace it is expensive. I suspect the plastic used for the dashboard deck is not uv resistant and is breaking down and becoming brittle from exposure to the sunlight.problem 2:around 1-1/2 years ago or maybe longer, the paint or primer on the hood, cab top and trunk lid started bubbling up into rough 'cancer'spots that began fading and turning white.they start with a small spot and then rapidly grow across the entire surface. My trunk lid and roof is almost completely covered and the hood is about 50%.the paint on the rest of the car has not exhibited the same problem so far. I have now noticed that nearly every 2000 black eclipse i see is exhibiting the same paint failure.it appears to me that there was a defective lot of primer or paint used for that model and year.

Clearcoat failure on mitsubishi eclipse 2000 all bubbling up also the dash is cracking and falling apart.

I own a 2000 eclipse. Every time it rains heavily i get a puddle of water in the front floor boards. This has been going on for some time now. I have taken it to several dealerships and they say it is fixed but it still leaks. There is a real bad moldy smell on the windows. When i drive it after a big rain storm, i can hear water slushing around in the door. There has to be a fix for this. I do not want to get rid of the car but....i hope i do not need to make a big thing about this problem. Feel free to contact me.

The clear coat on my car is bubbling and then flaking off.i have multiple large sections of my car with the clear coat bubbling up and flaking off.it looks horrendous. On top of that, everytime there is any moisture in the air or it rains, the door handles become dotted. My car is patriot red pearl and the dots are a pinkish red. It is very odd. The dealers will typically repaint the handles but the dots will still appear.my biggest concern right now is the quality of paint and clear coat that is applied on the car.i would really like to see my car, and many other enthusiastic mitsubishi eclipse owners cars taken care of. (i own a 2000 eclipse) thanks! *la

The car makes a sound in the rear when i make a turn.the turning radius is very bad.i wouldn't do a u turn with it.the other issue is that the a/c stopped working on a very hot day.when i turned on the a/c the car turned off this almost caused a accident due to the sudden stop.the dashboard is all cracked.other than that the car seems good.everything else about the car i do like.the paint is peeling off and there seems to be some rust.

Car body paint both clearcoatand paint slowly peeling off car body.this has been happening in the last three plus years.the car needs to be repainted.

Bumper keeps bulking up in the middle section. Itis only being held down by 2 side tapes which were factory installed. Dealer will replace bumper.

Both doors hold water causing windows to constantly remain wet during typical use. This will be a major hazard in the winter time if there is any moisture in the atmoshere or if the vehicle is washed as normal. Because the water collects every time it rains or the car is washed, thewater that collects causes a very strong , terrible smell that only goes away after the windows are not used and the car has been pulled over and allowed to air outby opening all doors, etc. It is to the point now that the smell is even there when the windows are barely used even in dry weather. It is repulsive!!! very disappointing for me to have happen in a new car!

Doors hold water and mildew and freeze in winter, dealer has been unable to correct the problem, a fix is said to be in development but a timeline is unknown, mildew smell can be quite strong in warm weather.while not directly a saftey concern, in time rust and deterioration could cause problems with doors in accidents i would think.

Passenger door does not seal due to obstruction of window. Whatever regulates how far the window goes up is missing/broken. *nlm

I own a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt purchased october 1999. Since early 2003 i began having problems with the paint even though i have taken good care of it. The clear coat on the roof came off. After fighting with the dealer they agreed to help repaint the roof. Shortley thereafter the whole car started turning white my car used to be black now it's white! the is a manufacturing defect and cannot believe the consumer is stuck with the repair of this problem. I have seen numerous mitsubishi with the same problem. The clear coat simply turns white! mitsubishi needs to be held accountable for their cheap work and assist consumers with this burden! please help!

I was forced off the road while making a turn at an intersection, i struck the curb wth the right front wheel. The impact (at a low rate of speed) broke the rim and blew out the tire. There was also damage to the sub frame that has lead to alignment issues. At the time, i thought it was a freak incident until i recently heard of other cases involving rims. I had to pay for all th repairs out of my pocket. The dealerdid not mention any problems with the wheels or offer o look into the situation.

Water leaks through firewall onto passenger floor in rain or wash. Up to 2" of water on passenger side. Water destroyed factory infinity amplifier under passenger seat. Dealer would not accept responsibility and has not reimbursed buyer for replacement of stereo components.

The car has a water leak on the front and rear passenger side.the water pools on the carpet and reaches 1" deep on occasion.due to the radio amplifier being under the passenger front seat, the waterpenetrates the amplifier and shorts out some of the radio speakers.the car has been taken back to the dealership and to their subcontracted body shop more than 6 times in 3 months and problem still exists.the problem has gotten worse since the last repair.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. The contact stated that the upper strut tower was severely corroded. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or and independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Needs recall fixed.

Vehilce is in need of an alignment with just 13,500 on the odometer.trusted mechanic says new cam kits are needed.mechanic suggested that i contact the dealer.when i first called the dealer, they said this problem was only covered within 12,000 miles!!after raising a stink with the service manager, they will now "take a look at it" for me.cars driven under normal conditions should not require an alignment this soon!!

Manufactured rims are easily bent with minimum running over small bumps/potholes. When approaching stop, steering wheel vibrates.

The contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt.the contact stated that the struts are rusted and have come up on both sides of the vehicle.the dealer stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle and advised him to take pictures.the vehicle is out of warranty and is not considered to be a surface plight issue, which is what the warranty covers.the dealer stated that the failure could not be remedied.the current and failure mileages were 80,000.

I first noticed the car was trying to throw me off the road when i had,had the car for about a year and a half i replaced the tires and still noticed the problem occurring i took it back to the tire store in denver where i was visiting they said there wasn't a problem with the tires then in june of 2002 i put on a third set of tires which seems excessive and the mechanics told me all 4 struts were out and this was very unusuali told them about theproblems that we had had in the past and they said it was very likely that the struts were the problem from the begining they did not think that that was normal to happen on such a new well cared for car. The only reason i am writing is because it was very scary and dagerous to be thrown around on the road in traffic. Thank-you.

Vehicle pulls to the left.dealer has repairedvehicle, and the problem still exists.please provide further detail.

If the steering wheel is centered, the car drifts to the right-alignments caused the car to drift to the left.subsequent alignments caused the car to drift tothe right again if the wheel was centered.

One of the front struts leaked oil.the car was hard to handle when driving.i had to take it to replace the front struts.

Two tireson two different occasions had blown out, andrims had to be replaced. Unable to drive vehicle over bumpy roads while other vehicles could be driven without a problem. Technician at dealer told consumer that rims were low profile, and low in quality. Had to pay for other rims.

Rims will easliy bend. Also, when consumer is driving at high speeds, tires will start to wobble. Contacted dealer. Mitsubishi dealer denies claim.

On my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt, all four 17" rims became bent.this created bubbling in tires, improper tire wear, and difficulty in wheel alignment.rims were bent during normal driving;potholes were not cause of damage. Replaced tires and rims.manufacturer has not done anything to remedy problem in existing vehicles.new vehicles no longer come with this type of rim.

Aluminium rims are bent, causing the tires to go flat. Front right tire went flat while parked. The consumer stated that the front tire went flatwhile driving.

On four separate occasions, while driving at low speed or at highway speed, the front and rear right tires loses air and the left front rim was bent.there were no obvious damage to tire and rims.dealer found a chunk of beads on the rear right tire and the left front tire was out of round. The right rear tire and wheel was replaced.

I have hadfour incidents of the rims bending during normal driving conditions, including two blowouts of the front tires at highway speeds as a result of the rims being bent out of shape. I produced four receipts of the repairs which i payed for to the dealerin mid january.they had a district regional manager look at my case and then declined to reimburse me for the damage,i do know that there is a class action law suit in progress for this very reason and i still have yet to receive my original receipts as well as a copy of thereport that was declined by the dealer. I was told numerous times by the service manager that the papers would be mailed to mebut that wasover four weeks ago, andnow they are lost in the mail.iwouldlike an explanationof why a safety concern such as this can just be dismissed with no reason when hundreds if not thousands of people are having the same problem please get back to me on this matter, thank you ,stephen weir.

While driving over a potholeright front tire blewout andrim bent, showing low quality of the rim.currently, wheel had to be replaced.

My rims are two-piece and have had 3 bent rims and 3 blowouts due to these rims.this is compounded by the fact that the gt tires are low-profile.these rims are easily dented, the clear coating peeled off after a short period of time.i have all the documentation and have had meetings with jeff ney at max madsen.i have pictures of all bent rims that i can fax or e-mail to you as well.

My dashboard is cracking all over and the paint is oxidizing (no clear coat?).i have only used clear coat safe products on my car and these conditions started at the end of 2002 and beginning of 2003.my car is a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt and problems like the above should not occur for several years!

Car is a 2000 eclipse, black. In 2006 the clear coat began to crack then flake off. Started on roof then started on hood, trunk, and panels above windows. The front and back bumpers are not affected. Within 6 months the spots grew larger and the clear coat on the roof is about 70% gone. Called mitsubishi, they said go to dealer. I went, they took pictures. Mitsubishi said at first they went by a case by case basis, didn't matter that it was a 2000 model. Then they told me they wouldn't help me because it was too far out of warranty. Contradicting statement from the same representative. There have tv reports done on the paint problem and there are websites dedicated to this problem. Mymitsubishipaintproblem.com this is not an isolated incident. There are thousands of customers mitsubishi is ignoring.

The clear coat paint on my black 2000 eclipse is defective. The paint is disappearing on the entire car. It is down to the metal on the roof causing major rust. This is a very serious problem that is affecting mitsubishi owners across the country. Mitsubishi denies any problem and refuses to fix our cars.

Looked online about safety recalls on my car but there hasn't been any accidents to the recalls i found.

Cracked dash due to sun rays.this deficiency could result in injury during an accident.new parts are hard to find and expensive; used parts are defective as well.

I purchased the vehicle in mar 2002. Around the end of 2004 the vehicle's paint job began to oxidize. The condition worsened until the whole hood, top and trunk lid paint were thoroughly oxidized. The tops of each door, the front and rear fenders are also damaged.

My 2000 mitsubishi eclipse continues to be an unsafe vehicle.incidences that i assumed were part of regular wear and tear are actually related to multiple recalls.when i shared this information with mitsubishi, they decided it was not their fault, without even looking at my car.i provided numerous materials to support my conclusion, in addition to offering photographic evidence of my most recent situation.i am disappointed with both my vehicle and the customer service i received while trying to resolve my concern.

During and after a rain, the a/c and defroster does not work. Dealers have said that the belt must have gotten wet by water splashing up from the street. Once i only pulled out of the driveway and could not see where i was going due to the fogging up of the windshield caused by the air blowing hot. While driving at the start of the rain, turning on the defroster instantly fogs up the interior and you can not see out. I real life or death problem. Consumer states when it rains, water sits inside the water well, and when rolling the windows down and back up there is a water film on them, in colder weather windows will sometimes freeze because of this water, contact dealer and dealer stated it is common and vehicle is not defected.

Both windowsdeveloped cracks on the sides without the windows being hit or t being involved in an accident.vehicle was taken to a dealership, who indicated that there wa s a technical bulletin on this issue.

Rim on vehicle are easy to bend when driving over normal potholes or bumps at up to 35 mph. Dealer contacted.dealer informed consumer that he was responsible for the cost to replace the wheels, the wheels are made out of aluminum.

All alum. Wheels are peeling.air pressure will not maintain in front tires. Dealer states mitsubishi doesn't feel there is a need for a recall with just several hundred complaints.my tires have not blow out yet, and my wheels haven't bent yet as i have read many have.as this is a safety issue, not being able to maintain proper tire pressure i'm hoping to have mitsubishi initiate a full investigation fu

The wheels are substandard.i have heard of numerous complaints and that a comparison was done (dateline or 20/20) and that it was proven that the wheels were below standards.the rims are very weak and no where near their retail value.the aluminum along the edge where the tire beads is far too soft.a serious pot-hole, of which there are many in the northeast, can result in a bent edge, with loss of tire pressure.it is a constant problem.

All four of my wheels are bent. I bought another oem wheel from mitsubishi which is also bent. In total i have 5 bent oem wheels. I have all wheels for examination if required.

While driving 25 mph, the vehicle hit a pothole and the wheels bent, the consumer had to purchase a new tire.

Consumer states that two of the alloy wheels have dents in them causing the wheels to wobble when driving. Please provide additioanl information.nlm

On three separate occasions, i have encountered typical potholes on the highway which have dented the alloy wheels and resulted in flat tires. I have had to pay over $2000 so far to replace the wheels and tires as well as have the tires balanced. Mitsubishi will not reimburse me for this damage. There is obviously something wrong with the alloy wheels, as numerous eclipse owners have had this same problem, and the wheels should be recalled. I have lowered my comprehensive insurance deductible so that i can claim part of this damage with my insurance company (resulting in increased car insurance bills). I hope these wheels will be recalled soon. Otherwise, i will be forced to buy custom alloy wheels to avoid the constant damage to the car, continued out of pocket expenses, extreme inconvenience, and potential safety hazards to myself and other cars around me.

The wheels are bending which has happened once already before i found out that this was an on going issue. I had them fixed but now the problem is back.

Year 2000 - mitsubishi eclipse gt with 17" wheel option - factory equipped 17" wheel/tire option. Dents repeatedly when contact is made with a moderate or larger size road defect. Dented wheels leak air and cause considerable vibration at highway speeds due to out of balance situation dents cause. A wheel suddenly lost all pressure and the tire became unseated from the rim. Fortunately i was able to maintain control of the car because the incident happened at a relatively low speed. The rim struck the ground directly and was damaged where tire contacts wheel. I have seen a number of cars identical to mine and all of them have had at least one dented wheel (17" wheel option). All dents occur where the wheel meets the rim on the outer facing side of the rim. The inner rim does not bend, leading me to believe there is a design flaw. Rims dent at recommended tire pressures. I have already replaced 2 wheels at my own expense, and the replacements now have multiple dents. I have not rotated the tires because the front wheels only dent (i suspect because a higher percentage of the vehicle's weight is borne by the front wheels). If i rotate the wheels, all 4 wheels will soon be dented exacerbating the problem.

Front rim is bent without any tire, or rim's lip damage. Tire was inspected by the third party repair shop and found undamaged, but the rim is bent well out of the spec causing vehicle to vibrate at higher speed. Apparently this is well known issue with mitsubishi eclipse. Dealer runs me around, offering to repair the damaged alloy wheel instead of replacing it.

Two piece aluminum wheel bent significantly under normal city driving conditions.

All four wheels have clearcoat coming off and some have rather large dents.i feel this happens too easily and at far too low of speed.i know others have had this same problem wich leads me to beleive that it must be a manufacturing problem.

2 piece wheel metal is soft and easy to bend and the clearcoat is peeling. No safety defect mentioned.

All 4 alloy wheels on my mistubishi eclipse gt have bent over the last 8 months.i have ont hit anything to cause these failures.i replaced one i october 2001, one in february 2002 and i was just informed by the dealership that 2 more are bent.this time, they are bent on the "inside."i'm not sure how the inside of a wheel gets bent which would seem to indicate to me that this was not the result of an impact.i did not hit anything!

Right drivers side rear alloy wheel has been dented. Normal driving only -no major potholes have been hit. The wheel has been sufficiently dented that it presents a risk to driving and must be replaced. Car has only 23,000 miles.

When driving wheels become very soft upon hitting a bump or anything of that nature. Tookvehicle to the dealer, and nothing wasdone.please provide any further information, and vehicle identification number.

The rims on the vehicle bent under normal driving conditions resulting in loss of tire pressure.related investigation ea 02 007.*mr *nlm

Rims are bent due tomaterial being too soft, tires do not keep air pressure.

The rims on my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse were starting to bend.particularly the front drivers side rim which on one side became almost flat in one area.after one occasion of driving my vehicle i notice that i had a slight bump in the tire of that rim.it was large enough to cause the tire to peel off from the rim.my father and i then removed the wheel and let some air out of the tire to try and push into place.however that wasnt working so we got out a hammer and forcably bent the rim back into place.the tire was still bulging so the next day we took it to a tire shop and an employee identified it as an impact bluge in the tire.he said it occurs when ever the tire is subject to large potholes and other things that would cause the tire to be hit hard.i told me how i never hit a pothole large enough for me to notice on my trip that had caused the pothole.he said that of course any potholes damage would be intensified by poor rim protection which of course i had since the bulge occur rite above where the bend in the rim had formed.so i had to have the tire replaced which cost me around $125.

Vehicle: 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt, purchased new with 17" premium wheels. All wheels were dented on the circumference of the rim when the vehicle was purchased. The defects were not noticed at the time of sale and when they were brought to mitsubishi's attention no resolution was made.

Consumer states that three of the rims were bent.

Driver side tire rims arebent causing air to escape fromtire. The vehicle had several blow outs without warning causing the driver to take the vehicle to the dealershipto replace tires.mechanic told her that the problem couldn't be repeated.

- the contact stated that while thecontactwas drivingthe2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt with 52000 failure mileage at 45 mph the vehiclehit a pot hole andboth passenger front and rear rims cracked , and the front and rear passenger tires instantly lost air pressure.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the rims were replaced. The driver hit a pot hole on 2-27-07, and the front driver side tire lost air pressure. The contact will not take the vehicle to the dealer this time.

Bent wheel rims on a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse which were caused by typical driving over normal roads.one wheel now fails to hold air pressure and needs to be replaced at a cost of approximately. $250 for a reconditioned unit.i am filing this claim because the damage was not caused by large potholes or serious impacts, and no tire damage occurred.*la

Right front rim split in half ,around circumferencewhile driving at approximately 25 mph, causing damage.when the consumer just entered the highway, the vehicle pulled to the right.then loud noise occured from right front of the vehicle and the vehicle went out of control.

I own a 2000 eclipse gt and have experienced consistent wheel/tire problems since purchase.the most recent was a blowout at highway speed (in dense traffic) which could have caused a serious accident.all 4 original factory rims on this car have been dented, as well as 2 replacement rims under normal driving conditions.i've had numerous flats during both driving and parked conditions which have been determined to be caused by leaking or dented rims.after reseaching the issue online it appears that many other eclipse owners have experienced the same difficulties.since i already have spent significant time and money repairing/replacing dangerous leaking tires/damaged factory rims, i have now chosen to replace the currently damaged rims with custom rims to avoid further issues with mitsubishi manufactured wheels.

I own a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse with stock 17" rims. In the last 4 years, i've experienced 4 flat tires and numerous bent rims from regular freeway and street driving. It appears that the stock 17" rims are too soft and have a tendency to bend easily. Each occurence forced me to repair the wheel and replace the flat tire. It has cost me over $2000 in repairs as well as an undetermined amount of lost wages from missing work due to lack of transportation. I feel that this is a factory defect and requires attention by the manufacturer.

The right front rim is bent, material used is too soft of a metal..*jg

Rims will easliy bend. Also, when consumer is driving at high speeds, tires will start to wobble. Contacted dealer. Mitsubishi dealer denies claim.

Multiple bent wheels on my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt.i replaced one wheel in 2002.three others bent in april 2004 and one immediately lost all tire pressure requiring me to change to the spare on a dangerous interstate roadside.manufacturer wanted $500 per wheel to replace.i replaced all 4 wheels with aftermarket wheels of the same size and weight for half the price and have had no more bent wheels!

Have to inflate dented rims at least once a week. Cannot hold proper pressure. Hitting small potholes dented 2 rims in 2 places while driving less than 10 mph.

Recently took my mitsubishi 2000 eclipse to get an alignment.shop refused to complete it because 3 of my rims were bent under normal driving conditions.the tires will hold air, but tire noise can be heard when driving especially at 55 mph or higher and the wheel will shake when needing to brake at high speeds.my mechanic has said all 3 rims will need to be replaced before anything can be done.

The consumer stated the wheel rims were dented.when the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have them replaced and examined he was told that they do not make this kind any more.the tire was losing air from the dent.the vehicle did not hit any pot holes.there were three wheels with dents. *sc

Vehiclerims are bent.dealership informedconsumer that this was not a covered part underwarranty.consumer states on 2 occasions, front tire deflated on a right turn at traffic light, alloy is too soft for rims.

The 17 inch rims of my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse were consistantly and severly bent.because of this my tires wore in an abnormal way.before i knew this was a common issue with these rims, i replaced two rims and tires.after i found out this was a widespread problem i replaced all four rims with after market product with no further instances.

Consumer states rims are made of soft metal, when hitting a pothole or curb the rims will bend sometimes causing a blowout, this has happened on 3 different occasions, dealer states this is due to normal wear and tear.

Bent and deformed rims.

Upon complaints from other eclipse owners about bent rims;i noticed that my front right rim is also bent in 2 places.now i'm concerned about my safety.

2 pc rims on vehicle bent easily, tires constantly lose air due to this.

When the vehicle went over a bump in the road, all four rims bent.

Since the first day i had them, there was just one dent on one of the front rims. The dealer was so nice (sarcasm) and advised me to get new ones...i then advised that they were new, since i had just purchased the car. Since then, i replaced one rim and have now 3 dented rims with multiple dents on each rim. As of now there is a class action law suit against mitsubishi pending. I do love my car, and i do love mitsubishi. However, i don't appreciate the crappy wheels that i have on a car that i am paying so much money for. I want my rims replaced or at least reimbursed cash for the amount of damage. I was told that my rims are worth about $395 per rim. That means that total cost to replace is $1185 for my car to drive normally again. Right now i'm very careful when i take the car out, since at speeds of 60 mph or higher, the whole steering colomn will vibrate like it's going to fall off. I've already had my tires rotated and balanced and of course it didn't help that much since the wheels are dented which means when they turn the wheels bounce. Now multiply that by 3. My car shakes a lot. Like i said earlier, i love my car, i love mitsubishi, but, they need to acknowlege that there is a problem and fix it. I'm not the only one that has this problem. Mitsubishi needs to fix this.

Took car to dealer and asked them to balance tires and rims at 15,000 miles due to vibration.i was advised that one of the rims was bent.there was no obvious damage to rim or tire.i was told that i had probably hit a bump or curb.dealer would not replace rim at that time. Advised i would have to replace it at my cost.rim moved to rear axle of car for now.

2000 mitsbubishi eclipse.factory rims bent repeatedly and for no obvious apparent reason causing tires to rapidly depressurize.this occurred on several occasions to multiple rims.most notable occurence was on interstate 95 when tire depressurized and came off rim - highly dangerous as i was travelling approximately 55 mph.forced to repair rim and replace tire.

Dt*:the vehicle had a 2 inch hole in the center of the rim which caused the tire to deflate.the manufacturer determined that the tire would have had to deflate first but the contact expressed the rim went out first due to the size of the hole in the rim in comparison to the small mark on the tire.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who was unable to determine the problem.the rim had blown outward toward the center of the rim. The consumer believed the rim was defective.updated 08/29/06.

Front right tires were vibrating. Had them checked, it was as a result of rim bending.contacted dealer.jlg

Contact states:while she was washing vehicle she noticed a crack indashboard.also, a crack inrim. She has not had any type of accident to cause these problems. She said that there was a film on the insidewindshield.the film was probably moisture were it had rained.

Consumer stated that under normal driving circumstances the two front rims developeddents.as a result, the tires lost air pressure.

Afterconsumer had a flat tire she tookvehicle tohave the tire repaired, and found that 2 ofrims were bent. Vehicle has not hit anything, right front anddriver side back were bent.consumerwas told that nhtsa is investigating this problem.

Wheel rim is being replaced forfourth time on passenger's right side. Repairs cost atmost each time $350.dealer didn't see a defect onrim. They had their engineers testing it.the front passenger side four wheels had been damaged. The manufacturer did not acknowledge the defect.

Consumer replacedthree aluminumwheels. Consumer will provide further information.

While driving over a potholeright front tire blewout andrim bent, showing low quality of the rim.currently, wheel had to be replaced.

Both failures were the aluminum alloy 10 spoke 17" rims equipped on the 2000 eclipse gt premium package. The rims were bent on two separate occasions. Between each incident, i had my tires rotated. Since both incidents happened to the rim on the front right side, both of my rims on the right side of my car have been dented. The 1st incident occurred while pulling in to a parking space on a residential street with normal road conditions (regular pot holes). Speed was less than 5 miles per hour. The 2nd incident occurred on a city street with normal road conditions (regular pot holes). Rim was bent while slowly stopping for a red light. Speed was less than 5 miles per hour. Nlm

Since i purchased the eclipse in june of 2002, i have been plagued with deflating tires and flats.no one had diagnosed the problem until 9/16/2002 when i suffered another flat.the previous friday i had stopped to have air pressure checked and was told the pressure was fine.however, on the morning of 9/16/2002 i suffered another flat tire.this time the tire shop recognized that three of four rims were bent.i went to mitsubishi, sterling va, to purchase a rim.upon return to the tire store with the rim, they inspected all rims and said that two others were bent.i ended up replacing all four tires (over $800) and one rim.on 9/17/2002 i called mitsubishi in california and was told there was a known problem with the 17" alloy wheels but no recall.my concerns about safety and nagging low tire pressure was recognized.however, i was told to have my rims inspected by a mitsubishi dealer and hope the district manager would work with me.i feel that if the company knows there is a problem they should take immediate steps to make all affected vehicles safe without being told by nhtsa to do a recall.i would like all my rims replaced by the company as well as to be reimbursed for the cost of the new tires.

While driving under normal conditions, front rims have bent without striking any objects in the road, the rim failures were so severe that they could not be repaired, two of the rims also caused damage to two of the tires and they also had to be replaced.

Manufactured rims are easily bent with minimum running over small bumps/potholes. When approaching stop, steering wheel vibrates.

While driving in boston, ma around rush hour, a small pot hole was hit.car was not travelling at more then 25mph.the rim bent causing the tire to deflate.rim now needs to be replaced.

I have a real concern regarding the 2000 eclipse rims. 3 of my 4 rims are dented and one tire leaks air constantly due to the malformed rim.these rims are very soft-they damage extremely easily, on the slightest of bumps. I feel it is only a matter of time before i have a tire failure. The dealership uses the "pothole" excuse and offers no repair or replacement.

During normal road driving in speeds under 40 mph, my car rims have bent on two separate occasions.i have heard from other 2000 eclipse owners who have experienced the same problem:rims are bending too easily under normal road useage during lower speeds.

Easily bent rims on the 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt, all my 4 rims have some sore of damage with a normal driving habits, my car shakes and feels unsafe above 60mph.*la

Consumer states when vehicle hits the sligtest bumb the rims will bend, rims have been replaced 5 times. Contacted dealer.

When driving over a little bump in the road the front passenger rim bent.as a result, the tire was punctured. Please provide additional information.

Rims bend easily.had four occurances of bent rims that cause tires to go flat.most recently hit a pot hole and bent rim and caused tire to go flat.

The left rearand right front rims of the vehiclebent under normal driving conditions.the consumer believed the rims were defective.the dealer at mitsubishi stated that they knew there was a problem with the rims, and they are now changed.*scc

Rims bent easily sometimeswhen turning a corner/bending a curve or hitting a light bump. Consumer was going 25mphmade a left turn, hit a light bump, andrim bent onpassenger right side.consumer has been going back and forth with mitsubishi, but they will be of no assistance toconsumer.rimswere made of aluminum, and mitsubishi said therewere not enough complaints for a recall.

When the vehicle hits a minor bump on roadrims would bent. Rims have been replaced 4 different times.please add additional information.

Bent wheel rims replacedsix times on various location betweenfront andrear. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Two tireson two different occasions had blown out, andrims had to be replaced. Unable to drive vehicle over bumpy roads while other vehicles could be driven without a problem. Technician at dealer told consumer that rims were low profile, and low in quality. Had to pay for other rims.

My 6 spoke mitsubishi rims are dented from normal driving in the city.they became dented when i had hit mnor potholes going at 20mph or slower. I have talked to the mitsubishi hotline and they said they could be replaced but for $250.i dont believe i should pay thisas i believe it is a major manufacturers defect.thank you for all your help and assistance.

Shortly after leaving home on the morning of 8/1/04 i became aware that my front left tire was flat. After replacing the wheel with its spare i went to the tire dealership where i purchased the tires so that they could repair the leak. They informed me that the leak was caused by a bent wheel rim. Two of my wheel rims were bent. I was aware of this problem but until that day neither rim was bad enough to cause an air leak. One of the rims had become bent since soon after i purchased the car in march of 2000. These are the '10 spoke' 17" aluminum alloy rims that come with the 2000 eclipse gt.as far as i know, no single event caused the various bends to occur. Over a period of many months i believe the bends became progressively worse until this failure occured. As a result of the incident that occured on 8/1/04, i purchased two rims to replace the two bent rims. I have kept the old bent rims in storage.

I would like to report a defect of the rims on my mitsubishi eclipse gt 2000.i have owned the car for [4] years (original owner).i have replaced [3] rims and i am now about to replace a 4th.the rims bend easily while driving.on all instances the rims have bent in the course of normal city driving.just recently, (last week) i noticed that the rim on the front passengers side, as in the other incidents) is bent.i do not recall hitting anything or doing anything unusual that would have caused the rim to bend.on the first three occasions when i took the car back to the dealer for service i complained that there had to be something wrong with the rims.i never received i satisfactory answer.i even requested that they change the rims, because i only had the car one week when the first rim was bent. I believe they are hazardous!

I leased a '00 mitsubishi eclipse gt in november of 1999 from potamkin mitsubishi, in manhattan ny for a three year term. I have had nothing but problems with this car, particularly with the rims that came with the car and the replacements i've had to buy. I have gone though the entire original set of 4"10 spoke" rims on the car after they were bent while driving.i first replaced two of them with the same type of "10 spoke" rims. Finally when these two also incurred damage, i replaced the two replacements and the originaltwo rims with4 of the 6 spoke rims, and these too have repeatedly bent while driving. The loss of air from the bent rims has led to dangerous situations on the highway. I have had 3 flat tires that have occurred when rim damage created a bad seal and caused slow undetectable air leaks. All three tires had to be replaced because the damage caused to them was unrepeatable. I have kept all 6 of the rims i have had to replace in the last 2 years since i leased the car. (they take up a lot of closet space) i brought the car back so many times to the dealer to replace the rims and demanded that they replace them for free because how badly they held up on the road. I offered in writing to change the type of tires, or pretty much do anything to get around the problem. I was told a regional manager finally looked at my car but decided against replacing them citing road damage from driving in the new york city area and basically told me that it was all my fault. I know that he never even looked at the note i left him because the envelope was still sealed and attached to my invoice that they kept. I called the company numerous times and they referred me to the regional manager who never even took the time to talk to me. How could they market to sell and lease a car in a city that they then blame for causing the damage? shouldn't the tires or rims of a car be suited to be driven in the area that is marketed and sold or leased? front and rear both sides.

Manufactured rims for the gt series are dented, too soft metal, losing air constantly.also, rim at one point allowedtire to come off while vehicle was being driven.please describe details.

Manufactured rims have flat spots, bending when hitting potholes from the road.rims have caused flats and blowouts while being driven on parkway.owner is aware of others with same condition.please describe details.

Rim base bent easily.

The aluminum rims bend with very little effort.

The rims that camewith the vehicle are very soft, when hitting a pot hole theconsumer feels that the rim could break. Nlm

While driving 35 mph, the vehicle hit a pot hole and therear and passenger side rims bent.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the mechanic claimed that there was nothing that they could do. The tire blew out on two occasions. Once on the driver's side.three bent rims.(the alluminum wheels were soft) *sc

1.normal driving conditions involving small potholes over which other cars received no damage2.the alloy wheels of my car dent very easily resulting in numerous nicks and small dents.two small potholes have left my wheels with large dents requiring wheel repair or replacement.3.i had to leave my car in the shop for a few days and have the wheel sent away to be repaired.i am also currently driving on a significantly bent rim that will need to be repaired soon.

Four separate times i had to send the damaged rims out to be repaired from hitting minor potholes. Each time costing $12o.twice the tire went totally flat at highway speeds, causing the car to veer out of control.but nobody was hurt.i have read nothing but complaints about these rims, and every mitusubishi eclipse i see on the street have rims that are destroyed. I pay over $350 a month to lease this car and i do not feel safe driving it both on the highway and normal side streets. I also know that there is a class action law suit against mitsubishi for this very reason, and i cannot beleive that these rims have not been recalled yet.the service dept. At white plains mitsubishi seems to think that this is my fault, but i dont see any other cars on the street whose rims are consistantly damaged.it,s almost embarrasing for mitsubishi, to have so many damaged vehicles in public with ther name on it.please let me know what i can do to solve this problem. Thank you, [xxx].(tiresize: 215/50/vr1)parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The rims bent, which caused the tires to become flat.

Defective bent rims.

Two of my wheels on my 2000 mitusbishi eclipse have significant bends on them from normal driving conditions.as a result of the wheels being bent it created uneven ware in my tires and brake rotors.i have had the two wheels straightened by a wheel shop on two occasions and paid $75 for each one.

All 4 rims are in a bent condition - some bent on the outside of rim and some are bent on inside of rim- my front passenger tire has gone flat 3 times as a result of the bent rims- also the driver front tire has gone flat 1 time as a result of the bent rim condition.

Both left rims bent, no tire damage. Small pothole at 10th&west peachtree in atlanta on far side of intersdection. Pulling slowly away from red light. Impact did not feel severe. Bending is minor. No air leakage. Slight vibration from loss of balance. No change in alignment.

I was driving on the interstate and hit a pothole, my rim was dented pretty good.doesn't make sense that hitting a pothole would cause so much damage.

2000 mitsubishi eclipse.already replaced one rim 17" factory.in the process of replacing an additional two.have also had related tire problems, needing replacement.

Rims aremade oftoo soft material, bend easily, causing tires to loose air.

Mitsubishi eclipse 2000gt-i have gone through 5 rims and tires in less then one year.doing research, i have found out that i am not the only person with this issuse.my first incident was at the end of march and then i have had another in dec 2003.the rims on this car are weak and they bend, crack and break tires.this vehicle is unsafe to have on the road.younever know when your rim will break.

Gently driven 2000 mitsubishi eclipse wheels bent out of shape, causing a tire to lose air/blow out while driving on freeway. Narrowly avoided collision after blowout.

Two front rimsreplaced.

Poor quality ofrims, easy to bend, and causes air leakage from tire.rim was replaced on three occasions. Dealer notified, and informed consumerit was not covered under warranty. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Driving my 2000 mitsubushi eclipse gt with stock 17" rims and tires, i hit a relatively mild pothole which bent the rim. The rim was so badly damaged that it required replacement at my expense. The pothole was locatedin san juan capistrano, ca on the northbound i5 onramp from camino las ramblas. I have a picture of the rim in electronic format.

Aluminium rims are bent, causing the tires to go flat. Front right tire went flat while parked. The consumer stated that the front tire went flatwhile driving.

I just recently bought a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gs, i never once have hit any pot holes, but for some odd reason, my rim has dented severely.i am not the only person that had this problem with this vehicle, that is why it is a concern to me.if someone could kindly respond it would be greatly appreciated.

3 rims have bent on this car.i have replaced 1, but the other 2 were bent without hitting anything major.

A two piece rim was damaged while driving over a bump and was repaired.also, the rim clear coat was coming off.

All four wheel rims became bent under normal driving conditions.this caused the rims to separate from the tires, resulting in flat tires.on one occasion, the air loss was rapid and i lost control of the car and nearly crashed.dealer said that i was responsible for the cost to replace the wheels.these defective wheels are a safety hazard to me as well as to other drivers.i presently only drive this car over short distances and i never drive with passengers in the car because of safety concerns.hopefully these defective wheels can be replaced before there are any serious injuries or fatalities.
