Neither air bags did not deploy in major car accident.previously the all censors in the car needed to be replaced i wonder if this was not the cause of the airbags not deploying.are airbags a problem on this vehicle?
Consumer was involved in a low speed collision in which driver's and passenger's air bags did not deploy, cause unknown.please give any further details.
When involved in an accident driver's and passenger's airbags did not fully deploy, and had holes 1" to 3" diameter burned in them.consumer traveling at approximately 45 mph when a vehicle crossed directly in front of her.driver injured.please provide any additional information/attachments.
Recently purchased used vehicle for college student, with excellent service record.has stalled with no warning while operating under normal driving conditions three times in the past 30 days (5/15/05-6/10/05).my son states he was taken totally by surprise by sudden failure.he was making a turn and realized that his power steering was not operating, only to notice that his vehicle was not on.he nearly lost control, but was able to "muscle" the car through the turn. Dealer has inspected the car, no problems found.
1st incident: april 2002: 1999 mitsubishi eclipse gs locks up (transmission) constantly jumps and the speedometer will shut off. This problem was checked by official mechanics of mitsubishi and suposedly corrected by them as well. Today: march 12, 2005: on my home, the car locks up, jumps, but completely shuts off, luckily i was only a block away from my home when this happened. After several attempts i did start the car again but the spedometer is not responding and when shifting from neutral to drive or reverse the car jumps. Same problem all over again. Mitsubishi said the problem was corrected back in april of 2002, parts were replaced. This could have caused a car accident or injury if i were on a major highway.
Driving on freeway when battery light came on. Shortly after highlights would not turn off. Then vehicles lights in dash turn on and off, wipers turn on and off, and vehicle completely loses power at 75 mph. Battery appeared to have exploded. Battery acid over entire engine compartment. Will not start after new battery is tried.
When driving at any speedvehicle will cut off withoutprior warning, causing loss of all power. Consumer has contacteddealer.dealer was unable to determine the cause.
Car will completely shut off while driving down the road.willhave to try to restart the car in the middle of the road. , .several mechanics and even the mitsubishi dealership had hooked it up to the computer, and they will not get any readings for the problem. They said it wasbecause of build up in the exhaust, and they cleanedit out,and not even 5 miles down the road it stalledagain. Replacedbelts, gaskets, spark plugs and hoses. They saidthere wasnothing wrong with it. Well if there was nothing wrong with it i wouldn't be scared to drive it without getting into an accident.
Since the first month i have owned the car, the car frequently idles low (~500rpm) when the weather is warm.car has no power and will sometimes stall when i remove my foot from the gas.car has a 5sp manual transmission.has been into the dealer 14 times for the same failure without resolution.typically, they reset the "curb idle" which results in the engine check light coming on 15 miles down the road.the dealership has also replaced the iac motor and the mfi relay.last time, they adjusted the tps switch and the base idle.the failure still persists.

The vehicle caught fire while parked, it appears that the fire started under the dash on the passenger side where the passenger side air bag is located.nlm
Car had been driven a short distance.the driver got out of the car when it spontaneously caughtonfire.true cause and origin of the fire is unknow as mitsubishi does not wish to speak with us, or examine the car.

After pulling off from a red light, shifting into second we heard a loud bang (like glass breaking).we pulled off the road.a mechanic happened to be traveling right behind us and stopped.the car had a trail of oil a foot wide and parts strewn all over the road.the mechanic looked under the car and said that it threw a pisten through the engine block and into the transmission.there were parts of the block, pisten, gears...........etc.that we picked-up off the road.i have them in a bag.the car is five years old (just paid for).it has approx 72,000 miles on it.this car is totally babied, with regular oil changes and not driven by a maniac teenager (i'm 36 years old and female).i can tell you i'll never buy another mitsubishi even though i loved the car.the mechanic who stopped said he estimated 3-4 thousand dollars for repair.i haven't heard the actual estimate yet.what a shame, it seemed like such a solid car but i got 160,000 miles on my last car (a ford mustang).i'm calling the dealership in the am but i'm no longer under warranty.
While having a basic oil change at the mitsubisihi/chrysler dealership was informed of the head gasket leak.automotive technician stated that this was a common problem with these motors and a $1000 torepair.
Similar to odi 10080649 but resulted in fire within engine bay which was quickly put out without damage to the interior.threw a piston through the engine block.vehicle only had 66k miles.working car fire first reported via 911 in bridgewater nj.revised status was also called in but was responded to.state farm insurance will not cover the cost of engine even with full coverage including comprehensive.car still at towed location.
Head gasket replacement at 80,000 miles.
1999 mitsubishi eclipse.head gasket failure at 33,000 miles.
While at a repair shop for other repairstechnician informed consumer that engine had a blown head gasket. Dealer andmanufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
Crankshaft/ pulley failed, inner & outer rings separated.
At 58,500 miles head gasket began leaking. Took it to dealer they stated was past 5yr mark from purchase. Mitsubishi is so loyal to their customers not.
Oil was leaking out of doors and onto theinterior. Consumer took car to dealer, and dealer said that it was not under thewarranty.
I had changed the oil in my mitsubishi on 12/20/98 and on 1/7/99 while driving, with cruise control on, my car sounded a knock and completely stopped.i had the car towed to freehold mitsubishi, and the service manager has told me that he visually detected that i had used an oil filter that was for the turbo model of the eclipse.he told me that because i had used the wrong filter which has the wrong threading for my car.mitsubishi is not covering this under warranty.i have had a mechanic look at the two types of filters for this vehicle and there does not show any difference in the threading on either of them.the vehicle is only 2 months old and i have not been given any proof from mitsubishi that using an oil filter, made for the car with the same specifications for turbo and non-turbo, could possibly be the cause of breaking a connecting rod.what is my warranty for?there could be something wrong with the engine. I have paid in full for this car.i can not afford repairs.they have gotten th
Engine check light keeps coming on.vehicle has died a couple of times.consumer states vehicle shakes.
While driving vehicle suddendly lost power, and was barely running at 400-500 rpms, and then it will work as normal.cause is unknown. The dealer replaced the spark plugs and wires when the vehicle stall the third time but it did not solve the problem.
Occurred for third time today. Engine lost power, engine light flashed, regained power. I now have to return to the dealer yet again as this is how the other two power failures started. Not a happy mitsubishi owner and no trust in my cars ability to maintain speed, a defiinite safety problem.
Consumer was driving at 40 mph and vehicle shut down without warning in the middle of traffic. Dealer has not been contacted.

The upper pulley has squealed for some time now.i took it thedealer where they replaced the belts and blamed the problem on them.this stopped the problem for a short time and has persisted since.i have tried tightening the belt, using belt dressing, and lubrication the pulley.most times the sound stops, only to return.it occurs mostly when it rains or heavy moisture is in the air.the date of first incident is inaccurate, i am not sure of the first occurrence at this time.
My car just started making a squeaky noise one day right after it started raining and i had only had the car for 4 months.but i thought nothing of it seeing that it would stop 2 days after it rained kinda like it had to dry out.but after a while it starte getting worse i changed my belts it stopped but then it came right back.in feb2002 the belts was changed with my timing belt the noise stopped but came back a month later.these noises have continued til now 2004 i've just been waiting on a recall to solve the problem because replacing belts is costly.
Took car to dmv and it won't pass obd-ii test. I have tried three times. Found out that a tsb-03-13-005 was sent out. Which states how to reset so you can pass the emission test. If you disconnect your battery you computer won't reset till you take it to the dealer who charges you hundreds of dollars to reset a problem that they know about but refuse to correct. So every time i need to go to the dmv i first need to visit the dealer so that he can rip me off, and bypass the emission system. Again they know of the issue they posted the tsb 03-13-005. Won't buy or recommend a mitsubishi eclipse again.

Transmission got stuck on 2nd gear, then another occasion in 3rd gear, cause: blown circuit/sensor.... Air cond. Does not turn on at all at times, not even the fan, turns on by itself after driving for about 30 mins, cause: a/c fan motor..... Car pulls to the right, even after several alignments and tire adjustments, cause: unknown, still exists.
While driving about 65 mph and whenusing the lighter, it popped out, landing on driver's seat while driver had to keep eyes on the road at the same time.
Door on driver side leaks sealant-have taken to dealer 4 times.1st excuse was the heat was melting it (s. Texas)--it's not that hot anymore....also, stereo cd player is not playing cd's--it spits them out.will take to dealer again.
Both plastic headlight lens became discolored and caused poor visibility when driving at night. The dealer was notified.
I started having trouble with the driver side door handle just a few months after purchasing the vehicle new. The driver door handle would not "catch" sometimes when i tried to open the door. I took it to the dealer and they said they fixed it. A few weeks after that i continued to have the same issue. Since the door handle did not always do this i just dealt with it and did not take it back to the dealer. After the warranty was up the passenger side door handle completely broke off and now the driver side handle does not "catch" so i cannot open either door--i had to climb in through the hatchback!! it seems to me that this is a common problem and there should be a recall on the door handles. Also, the trunk/hatch lock is weird, i have to turn the key twice every time to open the trunk--the first time the trunk opens slightly but remains locked...
My 1999 mitsubishi eclipse gsx hatch will release but will not open when release from releasing handle on the side of the driver seat floor.
While trying to open the drivers door on my son's 1999 eclipse the door handle just broke off in my hand causing my son to have to enter the car from the passenger side. I questioned other people with eclipses and found that 3 of 5 experienced the same problem! i went to the dealer for a new handle and was told it would cost me $80 plus paint and installation. Even the parts shop was out of door handles due to the current demand for them. The employee behind the counter says that this is a common problem. If he can see that this is a problem, then why cant mitsubishi see this too? the answer is, they know but are not intending to do anything about it until our great government(?) steps in and forces them to! then i started looking at other cars on the street and was amazed to see how many eclipses had black ( thats the color the replacements are ) door handles on them. This is undoubtedly a massive problem and mitsubishi needs to step up and start treating their customers fairly and replace these defective door handles, at least as they break. Mitsubishi doesnt seem to have a problem promising their customers value for their money until there is a problem such as this then they just turn their back on the very people that keep them in business! their customers!
Manual transmission failure. Stick shift would pop out of 5th gear on occassion and then started to pop out of gear in 4th then complete transmission failure. Car has less than 43000 miles on it. I've heard of several other people with this same problem. Also drivers side door handle fell off, again heard several other people with same problem. Obviously a defect.
As i was getting into my car, my driver's side door handle fell off into my hand.i am now having to open the door by getting in on the passenger side and opening my door through the inside door handle.i took my car to the dealership to get an estimate and they said that labor alone will be $90.00.this seems to be a common problem in the eclipse.*la
Both door handles on my car are broken and i can no longer use them to enter my 1999 mitsubishi eclipse.i have called local junk yards to find if they have the car they have already stripped the door handles, b/c this is a common complaint with other eclipse car owners.
Two weeks after purchase of vehicle of mitsubishi eclipse 1999 gs driver side door handle broke off from the inside and now i have to open door from the passenger side. Car was taking back to dealership who directed me to the mitsubishi dealership and they refused to fix the door latch stating that it was under normal wear and tear conditions. There are too many complaints about this issue to be considered normal wear and tear, there should be a recall on this item i am having back issues due to opening from the passenger side.
Car is an automatic; parked in an "outpouching" of driveway; in park with parking brake on; car was not on!!! i was in passenger side reaching under seat; car drifted across driveway, crashed into wooden shed, was still in park with parking brake on and not turned on; my right leg was dragged, for it was out ofpassenger door, right passenger door was dragged against rock wall as was my leg; car is to have safety feature that it must be turned on, stepon brake pedal & disengage button on gear shift to move car...car was not on and i was in passenger side
Vehicle was in motion and the transmission completly disintegrated, causing an unsafe condition.
The contact owns a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse. While driving 45 mph, the steering wheel detached from the steering column. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over and towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the passenger side control arm, axle, and transmission needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 206,000.
Automatic transmission failed resulting in lock up 13 days after purchased new. Mjs
Automobile was purchased with complaints about transmission not working properly.dealer supposedly checked out the situation, and stated nothing was wrong.transmission failed less than three months later with transmission repair shop stating susspect previous repairs had been made on the car with the signs of some water damage.also the auto was sold with an expired inspection sticker.
The speed sensors are bad on the car causing the transmission to be stuck in second gear.this is the second time this happened.both incidents were reported to the dealership and the first time they said there was nothing wrong.now this time they said that it's not covered on the warranty.
While driving in fourth gear vehicle will jump out of fourth into neutral onits own. The dealer been contacted.
On 2/6/02 i took my car to anaheim mitsubishi with possibility that transmission was slipping and that the vehicle was running rough and almost dies when i come to a stop. Mitsubishi states "hooked up the multiple unit tester and found no codes stored, test drove and was unable to duplicate complaint. Advise customer. No other work done." on this date mitsubishi did the 18 month / 22500 service, which consist of brake inspection/tire rotation, maintenance service, change oil and filter and inspect all fluid levels. On 2/20/02 i took my car back to anaheim mitsubishi for the same problem, vehicle has a rough idle after coming to a stop in gear, idles under 750 rpm, doesn't happen all the time. Mitsubishi states "test drove and was unable to duplicate condition at this time. No other work done." on 3/29/02 i took my car back to anaheim mitsubishi for the same problem, vehicle almost dies out at idle, hesitates and runs rough. Idle fluctuates from 750 rpms to almost 0 rpms at stop when incident occurs. Fuel filter/injectors? mitsubishi states there is 3 to 4 possible reasons this type of problem will occur and not show up on the computer, one being the throttle needs to be cleaned. Mitsubishi cleaned throttle and told me if that didn't solve the problem to bring the car back and they would eliminate the 3 other possibilities. On 4/4/02 i took my car back to anaheim mitsubishi for the same problem, i told them while the throttle cleaning helped at first it did not solve my problem and i asked to speak to the service manager. I explained to the service manager (george) that i have brought my car back 4 times for the same problem and it still wasn't fixed and that i didn't think it was going to show up on their computer, since it hasn't before and it doesn't do it all the time. I then asked george why nobody informed me, on 2/6/02 when the car was first brought in for this problem and they changed the oil, that my top radiator hose had been leaking or why no.
After applying the brakes to slow down for a stop, transmission would shift& then jerk forward. Took vehicle to dealer & informed consumer the brake rotors were warped & needed to be turned.
While driving at 30 mph and trying to change gears transmission became stuck inthird gear. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.
Transmission blew up at 43,000 miles. 2nd transmission keeps having problems. Jerks into gear and sometimes gets stuck in gear.oil pan has a leak has been fixed two times now.
Transmission locked up.
Was driving vehicle at 60mph when it downshifted into another gear on its own, to a lower speed. It locked in on lower speed. Has taken vehicle to dealer 4 times for problem. This happened twice (2) to this new vehicle. Happened to another vehicle previously.

Gears on car weren't shifting on acceleration;stayed in low gear.turned out to be a bad input sensor with pieces of metal around it.during a transmission maintenance the same day, there were metal shavings found on the panel.during further inspection, it turned out that the torque converter failed and the clutches were burnt.also, there was an outdated drum housing design on the car that has been updated in newer models because failures were found in the old design (which was in my care).i have a letter of findings from the transmission shop that inspected the car and they indicated that the transmission in my eclipse failed quicker than it should have.mitsubishi should have issued a recall on the old drum housing designs that are part of the transmission because this may be one of the reasons why my transmission failed prematurely.
Clutch failed at three months.
Clutch failed at 51,000 miles as a result of a bad master clutch cylinder.within 30 miles, harmonic balancer failed.

All dsm awd models from 1990 to 1998 have had this transfer case problem and subsequent recall. Upon inspection by a local aamco shop, it was determined that there was very little, if any, lubricant in the transfer case (assumably a leak). This severely damaged the transmission, and they're asking ~$2600 to rebuilttransmission and transfer case.

Dt:consumer states he had to replace the transfer case on his 1999 mitsubishi eclipse.the tail shaft seal leaked, there was a recall for different model years nhtsa 98v069000.when the consumer took the transfer case down, there was a bunch of shavings and no fluid left.the transfer case locked up and that is why he took that down.when he took the vehicle to the dealership, they told him it was not covered under that recall.the consumer was driving in his neighborhood when the vehicle locked up.
Driving on the nj turnpike, noticed speed decreasing on its own. While moving over to the emergency lane, the rear wheels locked up.
The seat broke while driver was on the highway. We took it to the dealership and service person indicated that seat broke due to over heating during the welding. My concern is that the welding is performed by robots, and i wonder how many seats will break before the three year period.****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****760780.
Dueto design of seat belts when in use fabric would fold & bind up & get into the locking mechanism, causing it to jam solid, resulting in no movement.
The driver's seat in my 1999 mitsubishi eclipse snapped at the reclining mechanism, stayedn any upright position which is a safety concern much less intolerable to drive. I contacted a dealer who said the seat is not covered.
Door handle on driver side broke off in my hand causing door to be inoperable from the outside in an emergency this could be fatal to ocupantsbefor the repairs could be done on the drivers side door the passenger side door handle broke in my hand leaving this door out of service good thing the door was ajar or we would have to walk as car could not be opened from the outsidethe door handles are plastic and became brittle in 2 years.
When the brakes are applied they grab and the vehicle vibrates.dealer has replaced the brake system earlier.manufacturer has been notified.
Problem seems to occur when tires/brake system gets wet; upon making a right hand turn, brakes lock and car pulls to left; second incident 10/25/99
The car shakes wile braking @ or around 40 miles an hour.dealer reported the cause as rotor run out on the front brakes and turned rotors to resolve the problem.soon afterwards, i reported to the service manager that the same thing was happening again and he told me that it was ok and to bring the car in when the shaking gets really, really bad.i brought the car back when the shaking got really, really bad and they told me that i needed to replace my brakes because there wasn't enough thickness on the rotor to turn them anymore.the dealer gave me a hard time about replacing the brakes under warranty, but finally replaced them as a goodwill repair.they replaced the front rotors, shims, clips and pads in july 2000.i have had to replace my brake pads twice in 2001 and once they were cracked.the mechanic at midas told me that he has never seen cracked brake pads before.i feel that there is a safety issue with the front brakes that has nothing to do with brake pads, but some kind of manufacturer defect in the brake system such as calipers.the company has tried to use any excuse they can to not take blame, like saying that it's because of my driving or because i let midas change my brake pads in 2001.midas has an excellent reputation in the brake area and they don't lie and coverup what their findings are.

When applying the brakes in a normal braking situationvehicle would jerk. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the brake rotors were replaced because of warping. Also there was a noise coming from under the hood, that dealership was not able to identify. Please provide any further information.
Front brake pads and machined rotors failure causing the brakes to squeak. Yh
The rotors have to machined every few months. They were replacedat beginning of septembet 2000. Dealer has no explanation why.front endrattles toward driver's side.
While driving and trying to turn steering wheelcouldn't do it. Consumer lost control of vehicle. Vehicle would not tunrn in the direction thatconsumer turned wheel.consumer contacted dealer.
While driving at 15 mph driver turned the steering wheel to make a turn, but the vehicle did not respond.as a result, driver lost control, vehicle went airborne and landed in a neighbor's yard.upon impact, none of the airbags deployed.
Black glue substance that holds the plastic barrier film inside the driver and passenger door melts and leaks due to high summer temperatures. Water enters between the trunk door, not sealed properly. Vehicle pulls to the right. Vehicle steering is not up to standard.
The contact owns a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse. While driving 45 mph, the steering wheel detached from the steering column. There were no warning indicators illuminated. April 2010while driving my vehicle a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse rs hatchback at approximately 20 miles per hour, the 1999 mitsubishi eclipse rs hatchback suddenly loss control and crashed onto the roadway. I heard a loud noise and the car instantly loss use of control in steering and the car proceeded to leave the road onto a grassy median to my left side. I discovered the front control arm was lying on the roadway detached from the axel and tire.the front driver's side wheel was wedged at an angle between the frame and the disassembled parts of the car. I had the 1999 mitsubishi eclipse towed home and replaced the faulty parts with another front control arm & lower ball joint purchased from auto zone. In 2011, the same vehicle a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse rs hatchback loses control while in motion at approximately 15 miles per hour, as i was turning left onto a two lane street. The car lost steering control skidding off the roadway in the direction on-coming traffic. The front control arm was lying on the ground detached from the front driver?s side wheel.the front driver's side wheel was wedged between the frame of the vehicle and the road. I contacted a towing service to tow the car in for repairs. I bought and replaced the faulty control arm & lower ball joints. July 2012, i was traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour, in the left lane of a four lane main thoroughfare, when the 1999 mitsubishi eclipse rs hatchback loss steering control and crashed to the ground while in motion, causing the car to leave the roadway towards the left. I got out of the vehicle to assess the damage and discovered the front control arm detached from the front driver's side wheel. The control arm was lying on the ground and the front driver's side wheel had been damaged from the impact and skidding along the roadway. I contacted a towing service to remove the vehicle.
Made normal turn, straightened wheels, steering locked up, ran off road (road veered left, car didn't) into tree.total loss to vehicle.
While traveling 20 mph consumer turned the steering wheel and vehicle kept straight. As a resultconsumer hit a tree.
The contact owns a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse.the contact received a recall notice for a safety act that would replace the ball joints on the vehicle.the dealer replaced the ball joints; however, after he retrieved the vehicle, he noticed that it was pulling to the right due to the tire alignment.the dealer stated that he did not need an alignment with the replacement of the ball joints.an independent mechanic and another mitsubishi dealer stated that the vehicle would need a four wheel alignment following the replacement of the ball joints.the recall number was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 91,000.
While turning corner, sterring goes out, very difficult to control car and make turn.once turn is completed steering seems fine again.this is a intermittent problem.have taken to the deal for repair but they state it needs to happen while "they" are driving the vehicle.in the last three weeks problem has happened 6 times. Also complaint about drivers outside door handle fell off while opening door.again took to dealer but extended warranty didn't cover so i had to pay to buy new handle and get painted.very expensive!!! s

I purchased car in 2003 and within 6 months certain areas on the car the paint began to diminish. Taken to mitsubishi for effected areas and they painted car on two different occasions, (the effected areas at that time) but when the rest of the car continued to diminish mitsubishi refused to paint affected areas because car was out of warranty. I have seen several mitsubishi's with the same problem, and i can't figure out why mitsubishi doesn't paint the entire car at the first sign of this problem. The entire car is painted with this clear coat, so the entire car will eventually have this problem. However, mitsubishi doesn't paint the entire vehicle all at once so that their customers will only go to the dealer the first time it happens, and will just pay out of their pockets when it happens again! this saves the greedy company money!
Dashboard was coming apart.if the vehicle was involved in a collision pieces of the dashboard could injure passengers.
Have had the vehicle into dealership 5 times to reapir leaks..still leaking...front seats both passanger and driver are repeatedly soaked and car now has mildew & mold problems
The car leaks water through the back of the vehicle.trunk filled with water, spilled over divider between passenger compartment and hatch, travels up to drivers seat.water present molded seats and floor.rusted wiring.ice formed and seperated components.
Black sealant dripping from bottom of both interior door panels onto sill plates. No safety defect (s) listed in the summary.
Adhesive was dripping from passenger's door and driver's door to bottom of door panel. Dealer had no solution.
While consumers daughter was getting into automobile, she attempted to opendoor and both handles fell off.. Consumer stated the temperature was very hot and the door handles just fell off, also the windows will not roll up.
Passenger outside door handle fell off while opening the door. Dealer was not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.
My car is leaking black sealing on both doors.the black sealant melts from somewhere inside the door plastic cover and comes out on the bottom.it hardens and looks like sticky tar.tried to clean it, but it will not scrub off or scrape off cleanly.first time i saw little black spots, i brought it up to the dealership to ask if this would be a part of my warrenty coverage.i read my warrenty book many times and i couldn't find that type of defect any where listed.the guy told me that it's not covered under warrenty, and since the spots were so little, he told me to go home and clean it off and the spots won't come back.next summer came around and it got worse.now it looks like a bunch of glumped tar all over the bottom panel of the doors.i brought it back to the dealership and the service tech told me if i had brought it under warrenty, they could have repaired it at no charge.but because i'm over my warrenty limit, i would have to pay a little over $200.00 per door for repairs.i advised him the prior year i had came and asked, one of there service techs told me it was "not" under warrenty that's why the problem was never fixed.he stated there was nothing he could do.i am extremely upset, that i was given false info at first and now i can't even get my doors fixed unless i pay out of my pocket for a defect that is not mine.i hope that there will be a resolution to this problem better than what was offered at the dealership.
Door on driver side leaks sealant-have taken to dealer 4 times.1st excuse was the heat was melting it (s. Texas)--it's not that hot anymore....also, stereo cd player is not playing cd's--it spits them out.will take to dealer again.
Both doors leak water onto door sill. All seals replaced 3 times by dealer. Leak still occurs. If car is jacked up on one side water leaks through speaker cover onto floor. Hopless to fix correctly?
Passenger door handle came off when opened normally, 2 weeks later drivers side came off under same conditions, very poor material or engineering.
Both doors are leaking a glue like substance, and it is causingdoors to stick.consumer feels that in an accident consumer may not be able to exitvehicle. Consumer has contacted dealer 5 times, and each time dealer cleans off glue substance, then, within a weeksticking starts again.please provide any further information.
Driver's side door handle fell off while getting intovehicle. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.
Mitsubishi said both doors need to be torn down and all the glue/insulation removed and recoated and it would take at least a week and expensive. My car can't be the only one this is happening to. I have to keep duct tape on the bottom of both doors to keep it from running into the car and outside of the car. I'm extemely upset.dt
Door handles are poorly designed. They break very easily and can not be opened fromoutside in case of accident.
Both outside door handles have broken off in the process of normal operation.materials are poor quality.
Both door handles fell off during normal operation.i can not get in my car. The dealership informed me the parts are 73.55 each and the labor would be 250 dollars. The cheap plastic fell off and they want me to buymore of it! this is not covered under warranty. I feel ripped off by mitsubishi and will never buy another one. Oh and by the way my car doors dripped the same black tar substance other consumers have complained about. The dealership in charlotte nc did correct this problem w/ no charge.
Both door handles of my mistsubishi eclips 1999 have broken off and the passenger side was the first to go and i did not use that door 1/20 as much as the driver's side.ihave replaced one... The driver's side, but i am very warey as it may break at any time and hence i will be locked out of my car.hopefully not far from home.
Under normal operation the door handle on the driver's side of my 1999 mitsubishi eclispe broke off.the door handle will need to be replaced by the dealer for the price of $72.00 plus paint.
I went to open the car door barely had the handle lifted up and the passenger door handle snapped off in my hand.a few months later the driver side door handle did the same thing.
Dt*:the contact stated while attempting to open the left front driver's side door, the door handle fractured without warning.weeks later, while attempting to open the passenger side door, the door handle fractured as well.the dealer was alerted, but the vehicle was not inspected.
Top has been fixed 6 times within 14 months.still leaks, standing water in passenger seat floorboards. Rearand front seats soaked whenever it rains.car smells moldy, possible rust or electrical problems.

The contact owns a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse.while driving approximately 15 mph, the contact heard a loud bang under the vehicle. The steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostics where the mechanic advised that the lower control arm was detached from the vehicle and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred three times and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for the same repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 00v421001 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint) but had already been previously repaired. The contact denied having the repair performed previously. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

Consumerhas had vehiclein repair shop three different times, and the alignment can not be corrected ,vehicle still pulls to the right.
Approximately 2 months ago, received safety recall repair.took to dealership to have repaired under recall.took a trip and while coming to a stop the wheel came detatched from the suspension, breaking axle and bring the car to a halt at the light.had vehicle towed to a nearby mitsubishi dealership, who has taken care of all expenses.i am concerned about the safety of this vehicle now, had this had happened on the highway, it could have easily resulted in a death.i am trying to determine what my rights are as a consumer in regards to this matter.
The vehicle pulled to theleft.yh
There was a recall on the front ball joints which i'm convinced lead to the uneven wear of the front tires. After the replacement nnoone in the service dept. Revealed to me about the fact that the cords were showing through on the front tires and sent me on my way. I'm also convinced that the ball joint defect resulted in the replacement of the front brake pads. Both the tire replacement and the brake pad replacement was an out of pocket expense to me because the dealership would not take responsiblity. (dot number: m6d2tiresize: 205-55r16)
Lower lateral ball joint broke off and tire came off of car causing my daughter to lose control of car.found out that there had been a recall on this part in 2002 and records show that it had been changed.evidently the same part was defective again, i believe.car had to be flatbedded to repair shop and fixed for $1100.thankfully she was not going fast as aaa driver said he had gone out on several calls for this car with the same result and many injuries occurred.
While driving 60 mph front driver side lower ball joint snapped.consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a recall 00v421001repair on 4/12/2001 concerning lower ball joint boot.dealer inspected the parts and resealed the joint.recently, consumer heard a noise while driving and took the vehicle to the dealer.on 6/7/2003 dealer stated both lower ball joints had to be replaced.
Black glue substance that holds the plastic barrier film inside the driver and passenger door melts and leaks due to high summer temperatures. Water enters between the trunk door, not sealed properly. Vehicle pulls to the right. Vehicle steering is not up to standard.
Engine check light keeps coming on.vehicle has died a couple of times.consumer states vehicle shakes.
The speed sensors are bad on the car causing the transmission to be stuck in second gear.this is the second time this happened.both incidents were reported to the dealership and the first time they said there was nothing wrong.now this time they said that it's not covered on the warranty.
The vehicle does not stay set on high speeds. If cruise control is set for 80mph the vehicle will drop down 5 or 10 mph less without warning. Dealer says it's made so thatdriver can't drive at high speeds.

Consumer states the rim is causing loss of air in the front left tire. Dealer and the manufacturer were not notified . Feel free to provide any further information.
These are the oem 17" rim from a 1999 eclipse gsx, all 4 rims are dented and the clear coat is coming off.
Material of rims is too soft, 3 of 4 rims are bent.
I own a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse gsx with 17 inch rims. I was forced to replace the right front rim and tire after the rim became bent due to unknown reasons and caused a bubble in the tire, which if left would have resulted in a blowout and possible injury. Subsequently the opposite rim became bent and i now have three bent rims in need of replacement, and keeping the vehicle off of the road for fear of a serious safety incident.
