Read complaints for MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE (1996)

Prior to expiration of warranty, driver side airbag was determined by dealership that airbag was defective because horn would not work. In january 2001 i had the car in for a head gasket and sked for the horn to be checked again and it was determined once again that the airbag was defective. I saw in the paper that mitsubishi was recalling calls due to faulty airbags (2/01). I refuse to pay $600 for something that is defective a 2nd time and i feel unsafe driving the car.

Air bag failures- front.

Consumer took vehicle to dealer because srs air bag light came on.dealer stated that both driver's and passenger's air bags needed to be replaced.air bags have never been deployed.consumer concerned that air bags could deploy w/o warning or not deploy at all in a collision.vehicle manual clearly stated that airbag system should be inspected every 10 yrs.consumer contacted manufacturer, who advised consumer thatwarranty expired.

While driving 40 mph in a "misty" light rain vehicle hit an embankment head-on which caused vehicle to roll over threetimes.consumer received no injuries, but was examined for trauma. Both frontal air bags failed to deploy during this incident. Vehicle was available for examination, and has not been examined by anyone.

Consumer stated that he rearended another vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. Going approximately (40) or (45) mph at time of impact.

There was a flood, applied the brakes and the car started to spin, hit a bus head-on and ended up in a ditch and the dual air bags did not deploy. Please describe in detail.

While sitting at an intersection another driver on the opposite side of the street ran a red light and hit the vehicle head on.the vehicle's air bags did not deploy and the driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.*mr

Vehicle rear endeded another vehicle at about 35mph, and neither driver's side nor passenger's side airbags deployed. Driver suffered injury to head from steering wheel. Dealer has not seenvehicle.

Vehicle involvedin frontal collision, lost control of vehicle, impact 12:00 position speed 55mph, driver's side airbag did not deploy.

Vehicle was involved in an accident. It slid off the roadinto anenbankment and rolled over into a complete turn. Upon impact, driver's side air bagdid not depoly. Dealer/manufacturer were not contacted at this time.

Consumer was in an accident with a truck going about 65mphand the air bags not did deploy.

Consumer was involved in a 40 mph frontal collision in which the driver's/passenger's air bags did not deploy.please give any further details.

Owner was hit head-on by another car and her airbags didn't deploy.

Involved in an head on collision at 55mph the floorboard was torn loose on the passenger's front seat and the front end was totaled and the air bag did not deploy. Please describe details.

The passenger's side airbag has a rattle from within the module.the dealer was unable to identify what the cause of the rattle is.i'm afraid that either the airbag won't properly deploy (like many other complaints) or that a projectile will accompany the deployment of the airbag and injure, or possibly kill, the passenger.dealer doesn't want to replace the module at no charge.

Frontal collision, impact 12:00, driving a speed 55mph, driver's side airbag did not deploy.

Consumer hit truck head-on at approximately 30 mph. Defect in driver and passenger airbags caused the air bags not to deploy. No warning was given that airbags were defective. Also vehicle has 2 brake systems, including backup panic brake system which was inoperative, causing the accident.

I bought a 1996 mitsubishi eclipse and on the way home it broke down completely.i researched the car and found evidence that the odometer has either been disconnected or rolled back. The reason that i say this is because on www.carfax.com it reports that in 2001 when this person purchased this car it had 51,717 miles on it. Then it says that over a year later in 2002 that the car reported 51,719 miles on it. What are some other things i can do to make more proof of this happening. What can i get out of the seller if this is the case... All my money back? more than my money back? thank you for your help, i also copied and pasted the carfax page with the odometer readings. Get back to me asap. Thank yougood news! carfax search results on this 1996 mitsubishi eclipse gst ([xxx]) did not uncover a potential odometer rollback. Carfax analyzed this vehicle's reported odometer readings to determine if any reading is less than a previously reported reading.date reported: odometer reading: 06/10/1996 475reported on 05/08/1996--------------------------------------------------------------------------------07/09/1998 16,989reported on 06/25/1998--------------------------------------------------------------------------------08/10/1999 32,576 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------10/16/2000 33,596reported on 10/26/1999--------------------------------------------------------------------------------11/14/2001 51,717reported on 07/23/2001--------------------------------------------------------------------------------12/04/200251,719reported on 12/04/2002 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Electronic control modual while driving all power to car just lost.

Vehicle continually having electrical problems with short in system causing battery failures on several occasions.

Driving the car and the car lost its power(stalled) and then started to smoke andcaught on fire.please explain.

Clutch line has blown, causing the vehicle to completely shut down.dealer replaced the short block whichonly temporarily remedied the problem. Cause unknown. Please give any further details.

Lost power while driving and caught fire under the hood area.please explain in more detail.

Left main wiring harness and wiring to upper rear brake light failed, starting fire.

Electronic control modual while driving all power to car just lost.

(1) bought car used, it had a bad rear main seal.(2)car passes georgia emission inspection(3) replace rear main seal(4) now vehicle blows smoke while standing still in traffic.(5) repair of leaking valve cover gasket(6) still smoking while in gear(7) informed of valve seals being bad..(8) never buy mistubishi again.

Oil leaking from head gasket. Oil guy told me it could be a factory defect because he has seen this problem in the same models. However, the dealer refused to fix it with no-charge claiming warranty was expired in aug 2001. We have realized the leak in october 2001. Dealer asks $600 to fix it.

I have researched this site and deduced that mitsubishi has produced a defective product in the 1996 mitsubishi eclipse re: defective head gasket and which leads to worn out valve seals . On july 29th 2005 the mitsubishi corporation sued its previous presidents andformer executives for defect and recall cover upsfor "64,000 complaints filed by car owners dating back to 1977."anyone interested in a class action law suit? contact me!!

While having vehicle serviced techniciannoticed that head gasket was leaking oil. Technicianstated thatanother engine this size has had a recall. Please provide further information.

Car was idling at a very low rpm.i had the car serviced and was still idling very low.when coming to a stop, the car wanted to stall.meaning the rpms dropped to zero and then the idle jumped extremely high for a few seconds.a few days later the car started to stall when stopping or going around turns at a very slow speed.i took the car to a dealership to have them hook the car up to a diagnostic machine.nothing registered on the machine.car did not stall for the dealer, but did stall for me every time after leaving the dealership or mechanics garage.i then paid more attention to when the car would stall.it would only stall or shut off during the very cold winters and every time it rained....after two days or so after a rain, the car seemed to dry out and run fine.i later was told that the throttle bottle needs to be cleaned out.i had this done and the car improved.i have to clean the carb out of the car after we have rainy days.i was paying about $60 for a mechanic to do this for me.i would only resort to a mechanic after i cant deal with pressing the brake and gas pedal at the same time when stopping or turning at a slow rate of speed.so today 7-25-04, i went to the local auto parts store and bough carb cleaner and sprayed about 1/4 of the can and cleaned out what i could reach of the gum and build-up in the carb.at first the car does not want to start but then after pressing the gas pedal a few times, tons of white smoke poor out of the exhaust.then the car ideals much better than before, meaning i don't have to press both the brake and gas at the same time.i was told about a year ago, that this problem is caused by something that deals with the throttle body.i do not have $300 + to fix this, but i do have 1/2 hour a couple times a month to clean the carb out of my car.this is the biggest complait besides, my rotors, that i have with my car.the car is not enjoyable anymore.

On january 14 i took my car to punte hills mitsubishi for a recall on the lower control arms.since i was there i asked them to inspect my car for anything that needed to be replaced.at this point they recommended the timing and balancer belts, tensioners, left tie rod, and a broken air valve which i did at a cost of $736.52.upon receiving my car i heard a chirping noise coming from the engine which they told me was the timing belt was new and needed to be broken in, which i took their word for.within the following month the chirping became louder and louder to the point i called and requested they look at it again.on the way to the dealer my car just stopped in the middle of the street almost causing an accident .after lifting the hood i noticed the timing belt cover split open on the top revealing the timing belt was not on properly.after towing my car to the dealer a quick inspection concluded that my crank pulley has "walked" into the timing belt cover burning a hole through it causing the disassembling of the timing unit and major damage to the heads, pistons, etc...i asked the mechanic why when i brought my car in justa little more than a month ago they didn't let me know my crank pulley had such significant wear.his response was that there is no way to tell a crank pulley is going bad.i did research of my own and found out this is happening to most eclilpse, all years and that there is a way to tell if the crank pulley is going bad by measuring the amount of movement side to side making sure it meet the manufacturer requirements.obviously the crank pulley had very significant wear seeing that the pulley came apart.i did research on this matter and found out mitsubishi knows these parts are defected but covers most of them under warranty so it brings down the numbers.i feel the repairs should be covered and would like to open and investigation on "crankpulley/shaft walking" hopefully leading to a recall. Thank you.

My eclipse has been in and out of the mitsubishi dealer seven times in a period of three years going into the fourth year for the same problem over and over again being that i would be driving and the car would shut completly down being able not to start back up again and while going over bumps on roads the car would buck and lead to also shutting off, the dealers response was that they could not figure out what the problem was until last year before that time they would asume what the problem was and fix something and then charging me for fixing something that did not even fix the problem. Finally in 2000 they replaced the crank sensorand for awhile the car did not die for awhile until a few months ago when i took my car to a garage where my car died while driving in traffic and they then also replaced the crank sensor and suggested that i check into my head gasket because he had seen many of the eclipses having the same problem being that the head gasket was cracked.

Head gasket has blown, causing leakage of quart of oil about every thousand mile. Manufacuter has developed 13 different gaskets to preventfailure, but it does not resolve problem.

Mitsubishi replaced the head gasket at 38,000 miles due to it leaking oil. Owner reported it leaking oil 2000 miles later. Mitsubishi denied there was a leak. I just had to replace my head gasket at 58008 miles due to it leaking oil. There is something terribly wrong with an engine that goes through 2 head gaskets at such a low mileage. I have contacted mitsubishi and am in the process of trying to settle this matter through the dealer. This is a problem that truly needs a solution.

Driving at 40mph hydraulic timing belt tensioner failed resulting in idler pulleys to seize and catch fire. Had motor not been shut off when it was, motor would have been damaged beyond repair.

Maintained regular oil changes and was notified that i had an oil leak in my engine.i saved enough money to have the head gasket replaced to fix the oil leak.the head gasket was replaced (new) in march of 2000.4 months later my car started to smoke from the exhaust when standing still in traffic.i contacted the dealership about the problem because i thought that this was due to the work that they did.i was then informed that i need my value guides replaced.i was going to have this work done until i was informed that in order to replace the value guides in the engine, i must purchase another new head gasket.i asked why this was not inspected at the time that the head gasket was replaced.my answer was that i did not ask them to check the value guides.if this would of been corrected at this time, i would not be spending tons of money on oil for my vehicle.since 2000, i check the oil in my car every other day and add oil to the engine.this has been a major problem for me.i do not have another $1000 plus to fix this.i've spoke with other friends and people who own the same type of vehicle and they as well have problems with their leaking head gasket and value guides, making the car smoke.

Engine overheating.

Vehicle makes high screeching noise when it is cold.

While driving vehicle about 35 mph the comsumer had a brake problem.when stepping on brake pedal, trying to stop the vehicle, it took long time to st0p, and whenstopping the brakes grabbed on the disc.also front brakes ulsated/replaced front brake rotors.in addition, replaced rear main seal and oil seal and retorqued all mounting nuts and bolts due to front suspension noise.

While driving the vehicle stalled unexpectedly which may cause a crash.been to dealer several times, an d dealer cannot determine the cause.please provide further information.

Oil leaks, antenna problems, fuel problem, meaning the car does not run correctly. Now the car does not work at all

While drivingvehicle began to loss power and wouldnot accelerate above 15 mph, cause unknown.please give any further details.

I had many problems with this car.the first time happened nov 1997, since i got the car in the spring of 1996, wee i kep my old car and the first winter i used this old car and my new car i kept in thegarage.the problem really started thefollowing winter.every time that the temperure is under 30 degress my car start with the same problem.this car has been back to the dealer so many times.well this is theproblem that i have--- when i drive the car on cold weather the caras ide-press the clutch pedal to shift the idle drops to zero and stalls.this happenevery time that i shift.the last time this happen i was on the highway on my way to work and i got into a car accident.which right know i sufffer severe problems with my left lower back and shoulder.thiswas previously reported to your dept. The contact owns a 1996 mitsubishi eclipse. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the transfer case suddenly stalled and locked all four wheels; he was unable to get the vehicle to move. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who informed the contact that he needed to replace transfer case and that they could not assist with repair expenses as the vehicle was not included in recall 98v069001 (power train: automatic transmission). The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 1996 mitsubishi eclipse. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the rear wheels seized. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per an unknown recall. The failure mileage was approximately 89,200.

Consumerwas traveling on highway andtransmission fluid was leaking out from underneathofvehicle. Vehicle was towed todealership. Mechanic told her thatvehicleneededtransmission replaced. Transmission was replaced.

I was going about 65 miles per hour on the freeway, when the transmission started to make a loud revving noise and began to down shift at an accelerated rate. The eclipse now has a shifting problem to where the car does not have the drive to move forwards nor backwards. I was told by a transmission specialist and close friend, that all my gears were all wiped out all at the same time and that the throttle cable was either loose or broken. He also mentioned that he found in the transfer case, of the transmission, shavings or little pieces of metal or aluminum.

At 65 mph consumer noticed smoke coming from underneath vehicle, front wheels locked up, and vehicle went in circles. Dealer determined that transmission needed to be replaced.transmission is on backorder at this time.

Transmission makes a loud revving noise, and has a shifting problem. Dealer has been contacted.

Wheel bearings leaking oil, can rotate casing more than 3 inches, according to dealer.whole casing could separate, causing crash.

I was driving down the street traveling 30mph when i heard a loud bang!!!my car slammed to a halt in the front yard of some unknown house. Only to see that the front driver side of my car is now resting the wheel well on the tire, the tire about to just fall over, my frame by the door all crushed back from the tire, and my axel on the ground. Had i been on the highway i could have just kissed myself goodbye. I would like to know why mitsubishi never informed me of this. I looked for the problem online and here's what i found -problem:~>wheel bearings leaking oil, can rotate casing more than 3 inches, according to dealer. Whole casing could separate, causing crash.

Clutch line has blown, causing the vehicle to completely shut down.dealer replaced the short block whichonly temporarily remedied the problem. Cause unknown. Please give any further details.

Crankshaft has repositioned itself causing theclutch to become inoperative.

42 days after the purchase of my vehicle(used), i stopped at a stop sign and could not go into 1st gear to pull forward. The car wouldn't go into any gear while the car was running. After having it towed back to the dealership, they told me the clutch "exploded." i was treated very poorly at the dealership, they accused me of doing the damage and charged me for the repairs. Exactly one year later the throw out bearing went out on the year old clutch. I went to another repairman after the dealership would not honor the warranty.

Transmission won't pull or go into gear due to a failed pressure plate.

My daughter and i were traveling between 60 &65 at 6:30am may 21, 2002 when i noticed a loud noise coming from the bottom of the car, instantaneously the front wheels locked up and the car went into a spin. (the 5 speed transmission through a gear out the bottom of the housing causing the front wheels to lock)i was able to control, in as well, hit a bank causing minor damages to the passenger side fender. (est. $350.00).prior to this incident, there were no warning signs, completely unaware. I spoke to mitsubishi on may 24, 2002 to see if this was an issue and how to solve this from happining again. They were professional and after 15 conversations with 15 different people, they advised me that it was not their responsability, that the car's warranty had expired and that they had no complaints on this transmission. I investigated this further to find that three local mitsubishi dealers service department managers told me that they have replaced these transmissions in the eclipse, that the pin works loose causing failure. I decided to have my car fixed and buy a new transmission. I contacted a local repair shop pride & joy auto repair (540-633-0202). They evaluated the condition and called mitsubishi to find out that these transmissions were on back order until sept. 30, 2002. I have been without my car for 3 months.nlm

The contact owns a 1996 mitsubishi eclipse. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle began to exhibit an abnormal vibration and it made an unusual noise. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and upon further inspection, found that the front drive shaft had fractured from the transfer case. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where it was inspected but not repaired. The vehicle was driven to an authorized dealer where the drive shaft yoke and rear transfer housing were replaced at the contacts expense. The failure recurred 1,500 miles after the vehicle was repaired. The dealer had possession of the vehicle when the complaint was filed. The contact inquired about nhtsa recall campaign id 98v069001 (power train: automatic transmission) and when contacting the manufacturer, he was advised that the recall repairs were completed by the previous owner in 1998. The manufacturer would not provide any additional assistance. The failure mileage was 122,000 and the current mileage was 124,000.

Transmission makes a loud revving noise, and has a shifting problem. Dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle will begin to shake/stutter when brakes are applied. Will stop and let go when applying brakes.dealer replaced rotors 3 times, both front brake pads. Cannot explain problem.consumer states at times when applying brakes, they will skip, causing vehicle to stop and then go and then stop again, brake light switch was out of adjustment, causing the rear brake light to remain illuminated.signal lights would not work in cold weather, dealer ordered flasher assembly.seats would not work, there was material blocking the latch from locking.

Consumer appliedbrakes andpedal went all the way down to the floor. Dealership was aware of problem.

Consumer hit truck head-on at approximately 30 mph. Defect in driver and passenger airbags caused the air bags not to deploy. No warning was given that airbags were defective. Also vehicle has 2 brake systems, including backup panic brake system which was inoperative, causing the accident.

There was a flood, applied the brakes and the car started to spin, hit a bus head-on and ended up in a ditch and the dual air bags did not deploy. Please describe in detail.

Brakes failed several times.

I have had to replace brakes 4x's.they should be recalled. Issued complaint. Dealer unhelpful. Breaks squeal loudly even after being fixed.should be able to retrieve number of times taken to dealer in their system.dangerous.now car shakes when stepping on breaks.never has complete fix to this problem.husband has had to complain to them as well about the danger of having his wife drive unsafely.still no fix or proper resolution.

Rotors and brakes have been a problem since i bought this car new. Rotors have to be resurfaced every 6 months, and new brakes. There has been no charge except for brakes. Now dealership tells me i have to pay for new brakes and rotors for this chronic problem. Mitsubishi motors admits that this is an engineering problem, but there is nothing they can do. Dealership says to put the blame on mitsubishi motors. I am scared to drive this car due to brakes possibly failing. Thankyou.

Consumer has been experiencning problems with the brakes. She has had the vehicle into the dealer for the front brakes and the rotors.had brakes and rotors replaced in july/ august and in october.

Brake rotors failed.

Constant pulsating of brakes when applying them.took car to the dealership the 1st time and had the rotors replaced.mitsubishi paid for 1/2 of the cost and i paid the rest.this was in 1998.the first time that i have the rotors replaced, the vibrating of the brake pedal came back within 2 weeks.since then, i have replaced and/or turned down my rotors on my front wheels over 7 times.i do not ride my brakes either.i've had my rotors replaced by numerous garages.the rotors improved twice due to the recall of ball joints.when i had my car in the dealership for this recall and i drove the car home, the brake pedal did not pulsate for about 3 to 4 weeks after the recall was made good.i have spent so much money on having the rotors replaced.it's gotten to the point where i cannot keep spending hundreds of dollars on rotors.i just deal with the vibrating brakes at this times.

Brake pads/rotors replaced due to scraping noise.

I purchased my mitsubishi eclipse 2 years ago.i have replaced the pads and rotors on my car a total of 3 times.i returned to the dealership again this month only to find out that i again need to replace my rotors.i have complained to the service manager at my local dealership.they more or less told me that the brakes were an engineering flaw.i have contacted the mitsubishi corporate office in california.at this time they are unwilling to assist me with this problem.

Vehicle was involved in an accident. It slid off the roadinto anenbankment and rolled over into a complete turn. Upon impact, driver's side air bagdid not depoly. Dealer/manufacturer were not contacted at this time.

My 1996 mitsubishi eclipse was in for servicing the timing belt.the service manager called me to ask if i would approve an upgrade for an idler pulley for the ac/power steering belt.since the cost was about $190, i said "no."after picking the car up and driving home, the ac/power steering belt came off and i lost the power steering.i took the car back to the dealer and they told me that this would happen because i did not have the $190 upgrade done.this is a safety issue.because the original part is defective, and mitsubishi knows that it is, it should be recalled.when the belt comes off power steering is lost and could easily cause an accident.the $190, parts only, cost is also excessive.this is merely and idler pulley that manually adjusts the tension to this belt.

The power steering failed causing loss of hydraulic pressure.the vehicle has only 5,000 miles on it. Was told by a mechanic that this was common for the vehicle to act like that.

Power steering belt fell off because of power steering bracket.contacted dealer, and dealer statedwarranty had expired, and consumer had to buy updated brackets.

Owner states that power steering belt popped out when she took vehicle to dealer the first time, she was told that her crankshaft sprocket broke ,the problem was corrected but it keeps returning.

Power steering belt has come off while driving on two different occasions. This happened becausepulley was out of line.dealer has been contacted.

While driving the power assist belt fell off, resulting in a power loss. Please describe.

The manufacturer is not wanting to repair the recall because they said the ball joint broke before i receieved the recall.plus, they are wanting to charge me for the repair for the labor. From reading the safety recall compendium, it seems they are in the wrong and i just want my car fixed. Please help! thanks.

Thank you.

Bought car in nov 1996.about 5 months or so after purchasing the car, the drivers side sun visor can detached from the ceiling.i was told that this is not a covered warranty service.i was told that the threads needed to be redone and that they were stripped.my car only had 16,000 miles on it at this time.so the dealer apparently fixed it.but they didn't.when i put my sun visor down the visor slips out of the plastic holder and flies forward.sometimes this has almost cost me many accidents.so i leave the visor forward until i can grab it and try to put it back in place and hope it stays.the unit is not fully secure.you can tell by looking at it, that the visor holder was reinstalled, poorly.the visor does not stay locked in place when in use or not in use.

Recall in november on ball joint, had auto co. On ball joints if there isn't a problem.this situation, with collapsing ball joint, could injury or kill someone.i am very lucky.mitsubishi, who designed these ball joints for the eclipse, are responsible for their design.this is very dangerous.i am extremely lucky that i wasn't killed or injured.the damage to my vehicle is severe.i called mitsubishi, and explained that there was a recall, and they said since it was checked then it was alright.ball joints just don't break from normal driving.there was 17,000 miles put on since they check it.to say that it broke because of normal wear and tear is ridiculous.ball joints just to breakwith only 17,000 miles on them.there is a flaw, or bad design with their ball joint.this needs to be investigated, and they should be responsible for their design of the ball joints.numerous other makes and models of cars' ball joints don't break in 4 years after it was made.please advise me as to what i should do. I took my 96 eclipse to a mitsubishi dealer (carlsbad mitsubishi) nearly a year ago to follow up on a ball joint recall i had heard about.the dealership briefly looked inot my car and told me the ball joint was fine.about 4 months later i began to hear a "click" while in low speeds, and the handling felt unstable during normal freeway and street driving.i took my car to another mechanic, who said he could not do a normal alignment on my car because the front ball joints were too damaged.the mechanic was aware of the recall and advised to return to the mitsubishi dealer to have the ball joints replaced.i went to heller mitusbishi in escondido and explained the situation.a mechanic spent a brief amount of time with my car and told me that the boots were not leaking and therefore would not be covered.please inform me of how i can hold mitsubishi accountable for a defective product which could impact my safety.thank you.christine hansen.

Vehicle was taken in for repair, prior to recall notice (mfr sr-99-002). The vehicle was not affected by the recall so no repairs were done. However, after leaving the dealership, the tire was seperated from the vehicle & the ball joints collapsed causing failure.

Consumer contacted the dealer in refernce to recall 99v066001/manufacturer's recall sr99002/ lower ball joint boots.dealer inspectedvehicle, no parts replaced, consumer noted that the lowerball joint boots broke.dealer and manufacturer refused to correct the problem. Please provide any further details.

While traveling down our street, my lower ball joint on my 1996 mitsubishi eclipse gs failed. I was traveling approximately 30-35 mph at the time of the failure. My vehicle pulled hard to the right before the failure. I did not realize what was happening at the time, so i corrected the pull by turning the wheel back to the left. Within seconds of correcting, the ball joint failed. My passenger side front tire was forced into the wheel well and very nearly torn off. The vehicle had to be towed to a local dealer to be repaired. My vehicle has been to the same dealer twice prior regarding the lbj recall. It upsets me to know that the dealer refused to replace them when the vehicle was inspected for the second time. However, i feel that the dealership in question was negligent in its inspection and did not perform the required inspection fully.i have, however, received some assistance from mitsubishi. Currently, the vehicle is back at the delaership due to other problems that surfaced after the car was returned. These problems did not occur before the lbj failure. I am still fighting with the dealership to have the problems resolved. The dealer has decided to switch the burden of proof regarding these new conditions to me, the consumer. This is highly unethical.

I was driving about 70 on the interstate, i pulled off onto the access road.my car felt very unstable.i was coming down a hill into a very busy intersection, and i was easing through the intersection and my car fell upon its tire.the wheel well collapsed onto the tire, and i could not move.the towing people said they had seen many eclipses with this problem.i am now terrified to drive my eclipse (even after it has been repaired).i had taken my car to several dealerships and many repair shops, and i was told that there was no problem.the right front suspension separated.

Driver side front tire blew out, causing driver to lose control of vehicle, resulting in accident/injury.

After coming from a stop at a stop light, reaching a speed of around 10 mph, heard loud pop (almost like tire blowing out), tried to pull off to side of road, which at that point all i heard was grinding (almost like riding on the rim), went to put vehicle into park and as i reached the parking gear a loud grinding noise came from engine, put hazards on because was out on a busy street and was unable to pull off, got out to find that front-right ball joint had became disconnected from the boot/tire, and tire was shoved up into wheel base, and as a result had to replace ball joint, control arm and front-right axel due to the fact that the ball joint disconnected from rest of car. Luckily no one was hurt because i was on regular road at a low speed.dt

1 set of replacement tires (4 each) were purchased and all have tread separation and 1 blowout one after another. Sears auto center simply replaced the tires (under their pro-rated warranty) with the same brand eventhough i mentioned that there is a pattern of failure and it seems like the tires were defective. As of today, this will be the fifth time that my tires suffered a tread separation. All the defects were discovered during maintenance check of the car except for one which resulted in a tire blow out. (tiresize: p20570t14)
