The contact owns a 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt. The contact noticed that the transfer case was leaking and when in it was in neutral, the vehicle made a loud unusual noise. The dealer stated that the transfer case needed to be replaced and verified that the vehicle was included in nhtsa recall campaign id number 02v143001 (power train: transfer case-4- wheel drive). The manufacturer confirmed that per the recall, they were only liable for refilling the transfer case but not replacing it. The manufacturer also advised the contact that the exhaust system in the vehicle was an aftermarket part and not an original equipment manufacturers part. The contact stated that he would not assume liability for the repair and he left the vehicle in the dealers possession until the manufacturer agreed to replace the transfer case at no charge. The failure and current mileages were 218,500.

Premature failure of transmission and transfer on this car and many, manymore.

Mitsubishi needs to do something to these transmissions, they do not have factory parts to replace them, you have to buy a whole new aftermarket transmission, and they run about 4000 to 5000 without labor. Mitsubishi needs to have all these transmissions replaced!

Consumerwas traveling onhighway and vehicle started making a noise. Then, it shut off with prior warning. Vehicle was towed to her house.she needed a new transmission.

Transmission hesitates when shifting gears.

On my 3000gt there is transmission oil leaking out, and i am in the 3000gt/stealth international, and this is very common in our cars and its '!@#$%, we demand a recall! there locking up on us, causing accidents.

It was found that the transfer case had no oil in it. There was no prior evidence that would suggest the case was low or with out oil. Reason for stating there was a wreck, but with out injury is: the transfer case locked up the back end of the car causing the car to start spinning. Though at the time the car was traveling at around 60 mph, it occured on a straight stretch of highway, and no other cars were involved. Other than the transfer case, the rear tires had to be replaced do to the locking up, causing flat spots on the tires.

My transfer case is leaking, and i have replaced/filled it with new transmission fluid.i understand this is a safety hazard if the transfer case goes dry, not only will it lock up and break, but my life and others could be in danger.i have read of other instances where the transfer case has seized at highway speed and caused very dangerous conditions.it would be appreciated that this problem is looked into because i've read it is a very common problem with the awd models of the 3000gt and stealth, which mitsubishi hasn't issued a fix or recall.

Transmission on this car was replaced under warranty for the original owner at 51,000 miles.in may of 2001, (101,000 miles), it began grinding when shifting to 3rd gear.when i took the car to the dealership, they said the clutch needed to be bled (wrong!).the problem continued to get worse and extended to other gears.as the weather got cold it increasingly got more difficult to put into 1st or 2nd gear until after the car had been run for 10-15 miles.i took the car back to the dealership and was told that the syncros are bad and that the entire transmission must be replaced again!apparently, this transmission (getrag) is notorious for the syncros going bad and the manufacturer does not provide replacement parts.therefore, the dealer must replace the entire tranny at a cost of $4,592.00 plus tax!this is rediculous.i almost had an accident the other morning when i could not shift from 1st to 2nd in the middle of an intersection (could not accellerate because the car would not go into gear).does someone actually have to get injured or die before the nhtsa or mitsubishi recalls this lemon transmission?the vehicle rep at mitsubishi, tony, denied any knowledge of any problems with this transmission and even refered me to the nhtsa!apparently he hasn't read the complaints on this website.nhtsa - please do something about this dangerous situation before the 8 year limit leaves me and other owners of this car with no recourse!

Driving at 65 mph on a texas highway, my wheels suddenly locked up and the car ground to a halt.at the time, i was being followed by a semi.fortunatly, there was room for the truck to squeeze by.after i paid to replace the transfer case, within a year, it failed again in exactly the same fashion.this time, my speed was only 40 mph.

Front transfer case leaking and is very similar to the recalls on the '1991 3000gt's.seat belts also don't retract.major ticking noise coming from the engine which is lifter failure

While accelerating into second gear i heard a load thump and my car stopped accelerating. My transmission has failed. When you put it in any gear and release the clutch the car goes nowhere. Why does mitsubishi make a car with 300hp and a tranny that cannot handle it. I spoke with 3 other 3kgt owners that have all had tranny problems with this car...it deserves a recall!

Vehicle is hard to shift into 1st gear after a stop or after slowing down, and is hard to shift from 1st to 2nd while acceletrating.

Car suffered same defect as reported with the mitsubishi eclipse(awd).replaced transmission under 30 day(assuming used as dealer would not say).9 months later the tansmission failed as the out put shaft to tranfer case stripped from unknown reasons.after replacing the damaged partstransmission failed again two weeks after repair.seems that the fluid kept escaping from the transfer case causing a hot bearing to fail.when this happened the car came to a locking stop in mild traffic.this happened two more times before i decided to purchase another transfer case.i have but i have had to bring it to the shop every couple of weeks to comfirm that there was no fluid leaking out.in the end so far i have spend almost 6000 dollars in repair of that one problem.i hope you guys can help because it put me in a deficit that will take at least a year to get myself out of.

I have a 1993 mitsubishi 300 gt vr4. There is a recall on the power train. The transfer case locks up and breaks. On my car it locked up and broke both the transfer case and the spine on the transmission. There is nothing yet written on what mitsubishi should do about the reca.. My dealer tells me they will do nothing and i need to buy all parts. Here is the recall number. What should i do?nhtsa recall campaign number: 02v143001 component: power train:transfer case (4-wheel drive) details: on certain passenger vehicles, a condition exists that allows oil to leak from the all-wheel drive transfer case. Consequence: low oil levels in the transfer case could cause bearing damage and result in drive train lockup, increasing the risk of a crash. Corrective action: a proposed remedy and owner notification schedule has not yet been provided.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Original transmission was replaced under warranty at 45k due to unexplained noisees as a sign of possible internal failure. This replacement transmission had to be replaced also due to the same problem. At 50k miles the current transmission has bad gear change problems and will fail at some time. Drivetrain also has excessive amounts of slop in it and could potetially fail while the vehicle is in motion causing serious risk of injury

The original transmission failed while the original owner had the car, it was replaced under warranty at 61,268 miles.since then i bought the car used at about 72k miles, and again the transmition is failing.it seems to be a very common problem for the syncros on the transmition to go bad , causing grinding when shifting into second gear.mitsubishi (or anyone else) offers no replacement parts for this transmition.they consider it one part, the whole getrag transmission is a $5000 replacement part.i called mitsubishi and they said the 61,268 mile replacement was warrantied for only 12 months or 12k miles.i feel it is very wrong that they put a transmition in the car that only last about 15,000 miles. There should be a recall on all mitsubishi manual transmitions due to excessive failure rates.

Dealer will not fix only replace components atthe cost of $10,000. This problem exists for many3000gt owners. It is many owners' opnion that the transmission is not designed to handle the horsepower, and it is a corporate decision to replace rather than fix the original unit at an unreasonable cost. Many have replaced transmission units more than once which gives a good indication of the inadequacy.

Transmission on the awd 3000gt seems to have alot of problems. After spending $4000+ on rebuilding the entire transmission, instead of paying mitsubishi $6000+ for a whole new one, the tranny still is hard to engage, but synchros arent as bad. Have bad feeling that they are starting to wear already and will need more tranny work only after a few months of work on it. It seems to me that this is a very common problem on the 3000gt, unfortunatly, its a $4k+ job to fix.

This is a very common problem with the mitsu 3000gt vr4 and dodge stealth tt models. No safetyy defect listed.

Although no major components have failed, the synchros have been a continuous problem with 3000gts and steal.ths andtransmissions are not servicable. My 2nd and 3rd synchros are very worn and are failing. I am prepared for the worst to come and would be grateful of a recall before the tranny is complete trash and there is a wreck. Others in a close network of 3000gt/stealth owners have unfortunately been in wrecks and spent $1000s because of faulty parts from mitsubishi which they have denied responsibility for. This needs to stop! thanks -josh.

Transmission output shaft to awd transfer case failed without abuse and very easy driving as well as input on transfer case spline failure.

My manual transmission has a problem, the car is still drivable, but every time i push my clutch, my shifter movesup and down, forward, or backward and sometimes goes out of the gear.i thought that it could be a problem with one of my mounts going bad, but a mechanic checked them and said they were ok.then i found out about the failures of transmissions by other cars just like mine, so it's probably a manufacturer's mistake because there are the so called getrag 5 speed transmissions inside my car and they are the one's supposedly to go bad easily.a replacement would cost me a lot of money which i can't come up with that easy.now the worst is, i don't know how much longer i'm going to be able to drive my car, but i have been told it ain't going to be longer than 2-3 months and then my transmission will die completely. ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****742572

When traveling 54 mph on a 4 lane highway the transfer case component seized without warning and both rear tires locked. The car slid across the oncoming lanes and onto the shoulder of the road. By luck i was not killed or injured. The car has never been wrecked and has been well maintained. There was no warning of impending failure.*** dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****758136.

My car began to buck violently on the way home the rear wheels locked up and the front continued to move, which caused heavy vibrations. I turned the hazard lights on and slowed down to a stop. I then removed the key from the ignition and rested the car where it stopped, 120 ft from my house. Immediately, i knew the culprit -- the transfer case, and a recall was issued approximately 2 years ago. I had the car towed to darcars mitsubishi to have the recall performed. Initially, service support told me the problem would be taken care of. A few days passed, and i recieved a call from the dealership saying it was not covered because the "fluid plug was missing." they proposed the remedy of refilling the fluids and replacing the plugs, something that also should have been covered by the recall -- at the charge of about $82. I recieved the car the next friday, and the car worked fine... Temporarily. The very next friday, the car experienced the same symptoms as before. I pulled over by a nearby shopping center and called to have the car towed. It was towed to the same dealership as before -- darcars mitsubishi. The dealership gave me a rather large list of faults -- most notably, an internally damaged and leaking transfer case. I once again fought for the recall, but the dealership refused. The recall explicitly states transfer case, yet they were arguing that it was the yoke that is covered -- which is completely false.i called mitsubishi america and they said that the car has had its transfer case replaced before -- in 1999, 3 years before the transfer caser recall had been inssued in 2002. The car was then towed home and has sat since. Have been in touch with several other dealerships who were unable to do anything, because darcars signed off as completing the recall on my car -- which they did not, as i was charged for the only work that was done on my car at the dealership.

The contact owns a 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt.when shifting into second gear at approximately 25 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise.he noticed oil leaking on the ground when the vehicle was parked.the vehicle was taken to the repair shop and they stated that the transfer case was leaking.the manufacturer stated that the vin was included in nhtsa recall number 02v143001 (power train:transfer case), however, the vehicle was already inspected.the current mileage was 143,273 and failure mileage was 142,000.

Ren mitsubishi 2590 n. Slappie blvd., albany, ga 31701, 229-883-4700.while driving at 70 mph heard a grinding noise and tried to pull over, but wheels were not responding.consumer coasted vehicle to a safe stop. Vehicle was towed to dealer. However, dealer refused to replace transfer case due to over mileage.

Transmission output shaft to awd transfer case failed without abuse and very easy driving as well as input on transfer case spline failure.

The contact owns a 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt. The contact stated the transfer case was leaking oil from the seals. The vehicle was previously repaired for the exact same failure under nhtsa campaign id number: 02v143001 (power train: transfer case -4-wheel drive). The manufacturer advised the contact that any further repairs would be at his expense because they had previously taken the liability for the vehicle and addressed the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 145,000 and the current was unknown.

The consumer received a recall notice regarding the transfer case.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the dealer did not perform the entire recall repair.as a result the transfer case shattered two weeks laterbecause the dealer never checked for a leak.*nlm

While driving 30 mph transfer case exploded, breaking off the vehicle. As a result vehicle began to vibrate violently and lost power.

Seat belts fail to retract.

Hello, i have a problem with my 93 mitsubishi 3000gt's seatbelts. Both of them don't retract properly and leave slack in the seatbelt. And i'm afraid if an accident was to occur that i would have a greater risk of injury due to this. This is a constant condition that does not go away.

Driver's seat belt does not retract when pulled on, leaving excess slack.

Ever since i purchased my 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt base model.i have had problems with the seat belt.it doesn't retract and leaves too much slack.thank the lord that i haven't been involved in any accidents because if i am, i am not comfortable with the fact that i wont be sure if my seat belt will save me.i though maybe it was just an isolated problem with my car but i know countless people with these cars and they all have the same problems.i hope this doesn't turn into a situation in which a death must occur in order for the recall to take effect.

Upon entry of my vehicle i go to put on my seat belt and it gets loose and does not retract back into where ever it goes. It stays loose and i fear that if i get into an accident i will be injured more than i would be if the restraints worked as they are supposed to.

Seatbelts do not retract and leave slack which renders them useless in an accident.

Driver's side lap/shoulder belt buckle will not stay fastened.

The seat belts do not function properly. When the seat belt is pulled on it does not retract, leaving enough slack in the belt that if an accident were to occur, it would not serve its purpose as a safety restraint.

I have a 93 3000gt vr4 and the seat belts do not retract, and it's very dangerous. I had the same problem on my 94 3000gt sl. I have not done any thing to it because i know it will be expensive.

Seat belts do not properly retract. Which leaves them too loose when driving. This could cause serious injury in an accident. When the seatbelt is pulled on it does not retract, leaving enough slack in the belt that if an accident were to occur, it would not serve its purpose as a safety restraint.

When the seat belt of my '93 mitsubishi 3000gt is pulled it does not fully retract on its own. It has to be forced into the body of the car.

Both front seat belt retractors failed. *dsh

Seat belts in my 1993 3000gt vr4 do not retract correctly, this seems to happen to a lot of other friends i know that have this car, and the slack the seat belt leaves is extremely unreasonable, it wont retract at all sometimes and you have to hand feed it back in the slot. I call mitsubishi dealerships and they say i have to pay for new seat belt replacements to have this fixed. If they are causing safety issues why do i have to pay for new seat belts?

This is the most recent occurrence of this incident (4/14/06). The issue involves the seat belt mechanisms on my 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt vr-4. The seat belts will not retract fully and at times are simply inoperable. The real safety issue becomes apparent when i am braking and the seat belts have too much slack as a result of the mechanism not providing enough tension to secure the belts. This failure could potentially lead to a scenario where i am braking forcefully, and by not being properly restrained, come into contact with my steering wheel or windshield. Based on similar stories from other owners, i am inclined to say that this problem exists among all 3000gts and stealths.

The seat belt on my dodge stealth r/t twin turbo (manufactured by mitsubishi, same as the 3000gt vr-4) does not retract and tension leaving slack and it would not perform properly or restrain adequately in the event of an accident.

The seat belt in my 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt sl does not work correctly.the belt will still have slack in it and it will not retract to its original position.if i have to brake hard the belt will not keep me against the back of the seat because it has so much slack, once it is pulled on it will not retract.sometimes after i get out of the car the seat belt will hang outside of the door after i shut the door from all of the slack in the belt.this is a very common problem on dodge stealths and mitsubishi 3000gt and it is very unsafe.thank you for your time.

I own a 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt vr-4.my seat belts do not retract all the way after i put them on, leaving enough slack for me to hit the steering wheel in the event of an accident.this is unsafe and they need to be recalled.thank you.

Front transfer case leaking and is very similar to the recalls on the '1991 3000gt's.seat belts also don't retract.major ticking noise coming from the engine which is lifter failure

When the seatbelt is pulled on it does not retract, leaving enough slack in the belt that if an accident were to occur, it would not serve its purpose as a safety restraint. The events leading to the failure are just normal day to day use of the seat belt, nothing out of the ordinary was done to cause this. Nothing that i know of has been done to correct this problem which has been around since the vehicles were produced through 1991-1999.

Left rear yokohama tire blew out.*skd

Floor mat holding clip broke, replaced several times.

While driving, the vehicle accelerated without applying the gas.*sc

1993 3000 gt vr-4 mitsubishi.i am original owner.accelerator pedal regularly "sucks" down to the floor when you start to accelerate from either a stop or when try to accelerate quickly.when the pedal is depressed a little past half way, it suddenly seems to get a life of its own and takes over and pulls the pedal the rest of the way to the floor and you have to put your foot under the pedal and pry really hard to get it back up from the floor.i even was able to demonstrate how the pedal sticks in to the floor once to a friend when the engine was turned off and the rug was pulled back, by pushing it down to the floor with my hand and it stayed depressed hard until pried up again.i have had the dealerships in omaha look at it several times over the years and one even replaced the accelerator cable while it was still under warranty.this did not solve the problem.i have come very close to having an accident on several occasions, due to the unexpected rapid acceleration.although it happens alot, you never know when it is going to happen, so usually try to leave extra distance between myself and cars ahead also try to accelerate more slowly when ever possible.this is a very dangerous situation and i can't seem to find anyone who can figure out what is causing the problem.i suggested vapor lock with the cruise control to the dealer serviceman, after seeing the reports about ford that sounded amazingly similar, but they wouldn't commit to that or any other reason.i have seen this problem listed in other blogs and find it interesting that the dealer tells the client that it is the floor mat getting under the pedal.i had the floor mat pulled out and it still does it, so it's not the floor mat.besides a floor mat wouldn't cause the pedal to suddenly takeoff and pull away from the foot to further depress itself to the floor as this one does.

Glass sunroof shattered while driving.

Since date of purchase windows get a gresey film making vision hard. Gave up arguing until saw mit. Was charged with hiding defects . Now most recent problem is vev. Failed inspection for burning oil. With less than 50,000 miles and only driving it on nice days and not nights because of windows fogging and smearing this is last straw. Mit should either fix or replace this red lemon. Thankyou for being the first to help.

4 wheel lugs broke on drives front wheel. Lost control of car. Luckily no other car was hit and no one injured.

All four factory mitsubishi chrome 17 inch wheels began to pit starting from the lug andhub area . This rapidly progressed into peeling of the chrome and soon the chrome at the bead cracked causing air pressure in the tires to rapidly decrease losing close to 10 lb of air pressure over a 24 hr period. This leads to an unsafe driving condition.and also damaged 2 tires from under inflation. I then purchased a new set of 4 tires thinking maybe the tires were the problem but after a brand new set of tires were installed still experiencing air loss.
