Passenger airbag warning light keeps flickering on and off.this happens a lot.
Per my research, this a recurring problem with the 2006 mini coopers.numerous bulletin boards have the same questions for a safety concern if the airbag will deploy for the passenger seat.took car to dealer for diagnostics and they gave us a repair price of $1200.00 to replace the lower seat for the occupancy pad is defective which causes the light to come on for the passenger bag and also the main light in the dash.not sure if bmw cares about safety of the people who have purchased their vehicles but it is a bit callous on their part for not doing a recall on the 2006 mini cooper seat sensor.i have seen a regular bmw vehicle that has a similar problem have a recall for a bad seat sensor.i am concerned for any person who rides in the passenger seat if an accident were to happen that the airbag will not deploy causing great bodily harm.
The passenger airbag disabled light turns on intermittently, even when the passenger seat is occupied by an adult. The airbag might not deploy in an accident. The problem is caused by a faulty passenger seat occupancy sensor mat in the seat cushion. It failed once before and was replaced by the car dealer. Now the replacement sensor mat is also failing.
Passenger airbag lights remain on.
Airbag warning light comes on when a passenger is in the front passenger seat. The dealer says the airbag sensor in the seat needs to be replaced. The cost is about $1000. In 2006 mini issued an extended warranty for 2002 and 2003 models with the same defect. Bmw's investigation of the same sensor under the passenger seats of bmw autos resulted in a recall of this part. Nhtsa action number: ea08001.this is a serious safety concern. Message boards have instances of people paying for this expensive safety defect at the dealer, and the problems returning after 1 to 2 years in some cases.
Passenger seat occupancy sensor illuminates at all times indicating no passenger even when passenger is present, thereby preventing the airbag from deploying in an accident. This incident is extremely widespread and found on countless blogs on the internet. At this point, people are completely disabling the system through a device found online just to turn the light off - meanwhile putting their passengers at risk. Bmw (manufacturer of mini) has recalled the same item on numerous bmw's and extended the warranty on those parts due to the inherent safety concerns. How this has not been recalled yet or looked past for the mini is completely baffling. Somebody appears to not be doing their job! so along with the other multiple posts on this particular site, i would like to add mine and request please that somebody look into this safety issue that is repeatedly costing mini customers large sums of money or their safety. This is ridiculous. Thank you.
Passenger seat air bag warning indicator shows air bag disabled intermittently, even when seat is occupied by full sized adult (over 140 pounds). This means my passenger is at risk of severe injury in case of crash, as the air bag is disabled.in addition to the above, the light is off and on intermittently even when the seat is not occupied. Ditto if a 5 pound lunch box is on the seat.bmw/mini refuses to correct this significant safety defect in minis, even though they are making free repairs for the same problem in many bmws of similar years, and have even made an warranty extension of many years and unlimited miles for affected bmws.
The passenger side airbag light will not turn off. Seat cannot detect passenger and disable airbag. There is a recall going on, but it did not include my vin number. Mini usa representative gave no answer, no timeline, no additional information. Just told me to wait. I cannot believe that's bmw/mini.
The passenger side air bag sensor warning lights stay on all the time that ignition is on, even when no one is in the seat. You can sit in the seat and the light stays on. My concern is whether or not the air bag will still function.
Passenger air bag light went on and i took it to mini dealer who diagnosed that ht passenger seat matt sensor failed and recommendedreplacement of seatmatt sensor i called mini about safetyrecall nhtsa15v20500 of 4/6/2015, and they informed me my vin/vehicle was not part of thatrecall
When you start the car the passenger seat belt light and air bag light remains on, whether or not someone is in the seat or not. The light stays on, i visited the dealership the fix cost $1241. Why is this happening. Dealer should fix this error.
An electronic board in the passenger front seat malfunctions causing the front passenger air bag to become disabled.apparently, from all of the comments on the internet and your site, this problem is well known in that the electronic board has a flawed components.a replacement board from mini will also fail within time because no modifications or improvements have been made to this board.i have reviewed the complaints to the nhtsa and yet your organization has failed to require a recall.
2006 mini cooper, faulty wiring on passenger seat mate sensor, the wiring harness that comes out of the floor and connects to the sensor mate in the seat is to short and becomes damaged when you slide the seat back. This causes an error in the air bag system making it thinks there is a small child or no one in the seat and turn the passenger air bag off.this is a problem when there is an adult in the seat, the air bag system will not protect them. This needs to be a recall, being that the repair can cost up to $1000.00 if the seat mat sensor is damaged. The cost may cause owners not to repair it. This is a design flaw and the manufacture should fix this problem before someone is seriously injured or killed from this.

The motor mount on the mini cooper is notorious for leaking hydraulic fluid and needing replacement after fewer than 20,000 miles of service.mine showed fluid leakage at 18,000 miles, and many others on the internet report this defect in the neighborhood of 10,000 miles. The company has issued a technical service bulletin m22 01 06 for this problem, but will not treat this chronic and dangerous condition as a manufacturing defect.this defect could allow the motor to shift, leading to accidents and loss of life.having been an automotive mechanic for years, i normally expect a motor mount to last about 75,000 miles. This unacknowledged manufacturing defect is unsafe and costly to repair. For example, i had it repaired at mini of north scottsdale (az) and it cost me about $245.
While driving to work on hwy 270 going south between manchester rd and dougherty ferry rd in rush hour traffic sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 pm my 06 mini cooper convertible was revving up as i press the accelerator but yet barely moving.right before thedougherty ferry exit it "kicked" into gear and began driving at about 40-50mph.i thought i may have accidentally hit the gear shifter and put it into sport drive but when i looked the gear was still in drive.so as i was traveling to work in arnold, mo the transmission would rev up and then "kick" into gear.when i got to work i explained to a co-worker (initial "j.r.") what happen while i was driving and we went out on our break to take a look and see if i needed transmission fluid.we were unable to find the transmission dipstick so on my laptop i tried looking it up to see where it was located.we learned that's there's a plug underneath but the transmission is "sealed for life" meaning it shouldn't really have any leaks.so i called home to let my wife to let her know that i was going to try and make it home in the morning when i got off at 6am.after driving up to hwy 270 and manchester going north at about 630am traveling at about 40 mph on 4/4/13 the car begin revving up again whenever i pressed the accelerator.so rather than go home i headed straight for the mini of st. Louis dealership.i got to the dealership before they opened and didn't have an appointment so they stated they would try and squeeze me in. So i went to drive the car up to the entrance to the service bay and the car was "bucking and jerking" and barely moving.upon talking to the service department mini i was informed that i needed a transmission and it was $8k but if i wanted to they could get me into another mini right away.on april 9th my wife purchased a new 2013 ford fiesta in place of the mini.
The contact owns a 2006 mini cooper convertible. While driving approximately 30 mph or less, the contact experienced a slight loss in the power steering. There was no warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The steering wheel maneuvered with difficulty, even though the power steering had not completely failed. The vehicle continued in operation. In addition, a ticking noise would emit from the transmission. The contact planned to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. Also in may of 2009, the engine and clutch were replaced. Most recent the dealer was notified of the faulty power steering pump and transmission malfunction and they advised the manufacturer would be informed of the defects. The approximate failure mileage was 44,164 .
I bought my mini cooper two months ago. It is a 2006 model. I was driving home on the night of thursday january 7th when i heard a loud clunk. I live on a caliche road so naturally, i thought i had kicked up a rock or clunk of dirt and it hit the body of my car. The next morning i headed out to go to class and less than 5 miles (i live outside of town 30 miles, so yes i do a lot of driving, but my 2004 hyundai sonata handled it for over 2 years and when i first acquired ithad 145,000 miles and when i finished 198,000 and was still running fine) down the road i braked to turn onto a different road and after completing the turn i pressed the gas pedal, the engine roared the tachometer sprung up, but the car didn't move. The mechanic i took it to confirmed that my transmission is shot, no doubt about, however he cannot tell me exactly what is wrong with it without taking out my transmission and looking at the inside as that is where the source of the failure originates. It is an internal defect that consumers have no control over.

Power steering goes out while driving down the road, without any warning. Very stiff. Hard to control. Can't turn. Scary!!!
The contact owns a 2006 mini cooper convertible. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle would make a loud noise and the power steering would fail. In addition, there was a leak coming from over the power steering pump. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred him to an authorized dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.

February of 2014 driving my 2006 convertible on curvy highway at 50 mph.loud shrieking noise and then steering became very difficult to turn.towed to mechanic.had steering pump & fan replaced.total cost $1,038.54.2005 mini's have been recalled for this exact default.called mini and they will not reimburse me because mine is a 2006.however, my mini was made in 2005.
Power steering randomly when out while in motion. Thankfully, i was on a local road going slowly when it happened. Pulled over to the side, turned off the car and turned it back on. Power steering came back.
I hadmy car for a week after getting it back after a very expensive transmission replacement when i was driving it and tried to turn onto the highway. It was extremely difficult to make the turn and i narrowly avoided ending up in the bar ditch. Upon, getting my vehicle to town i immediately took it to a mechanic. My power steering has failed and i will probably be replacing the whole system at a thousand dollars or more. After paying 6500+ for a transmission that went out through no fault of my own, you can imagine my disappointment and frankly, my disgust. I called the closes mini cooper dealership (about 400 miles away) they offered no helpful information and neglected any mention of the numerous problems with this component, the current investigation, and the class action lawsuit that was filed last fall. I found all that out through my own research on the internet. Obviously, i have not repaired this yet because i don't know how i can.
Power steering failed while driving. The power steering returned after parking the car and starting on the next trip. Over the next few days, the power steering failed several more times. It could easily cause an accident if it happens at the wrong time. The problem was fixed by replacing the power steering pump.
I drove the car earlier and it was fine. I returned home and then hours latertried to pull out of my driveway to find i couldn't turn the steering wheel. Thank goodness i wasn't driving when it went or i wouldn't have been able to turn the wheel. Apparently after reading online quite a bit this is a problem and there is no recall or even a campaign or bulletin. This is going to be a very expensive repair. Due to the safety issue alone i'm frankly shocked. Apparently bmw dealers are cleaning up due to the expense of the repair. I'm looking at a minimum of $1500. Apporx 60% of vehicles have had this issue.
