On june 8, 2002 i was driving down a major hwy in louisiana.i was driving 70 miles per hour which was the posted speed limit.a car clipped my front end and caused me to go off the highway into the grass.i don't know if my brakes were a problem because they are anti-lock so i'm not sure if this was suppose to happen along with the airbags but when i applied the brakes the van would not stop.i ended up back on the freeway across traffic still going in the same direction, and hit a metal guardrail head on that was located beside the concrete wall that holds up the bridge.the van then bounced off the wall, hit it again then turned around.this is all that i can remember.when my van hit the guard rail my head hit the steering wheel.the airbags on either side did not deploy.my husband hit the dashboard on the passenger side.i have pictures from the crash where the airbags did not even attempt to deploy,i spoke with robert smith at the dealership where the van was towed.he stated that by looking at the van because it has been declared a total loss he'd wished the airbags had deployed , but luckily we all walked away from the crash.he did state that there are several sensors and that they all have to register and hit has to be a head on crash.my comment was going 70 miles per hour and hitting a metal guard rail head on, how much head on do you need?

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)event- every time the front seat belts are used.failure- seat belts do not proberly retract after each use. Subsuquent drivers and passengers who use the vehicle then use the seat belts think they are safely buckled into their seat---but guess what!?!--- they aren't buckled safely at all because 12-18" of unretracted seatbelt is still stuck in the space between the door and the door frame!engineers even have a name for it, "lazy retraction". Auto makers know about it, the government knows about it, but nobody does anything about it. My old dodge caravan did it after 70,000 miles and now my mercury villager/nissan quest started doung it after 90,000 miles.correct failure- lecture the [xxx] out of my wife, kids and anbody who will listen about the use of [xxx], defective seatbelts that no longer retract so that they don't think they are safely buckled when they are not!nobody wil ever convince me this hasn't caused injuries and probably cost lives.

Front passenger seat is power controlled. During a hard brake to avoid a collision the seat went into a full recline position. The seat belt would not have restrained a passenger if one had been present. Seat was working fine when i went to the dealer. Could this happen again? what would have caused it? nothing touched those power buttons. Car is 2000 mercury villager. Mary hixson.
I purchased a 2000 mercury villager bran new. At around 8,000 miles i would get a sickly sweet smell with the air conditioner on. I complained but neither ford nor the dealer could tell me anything or find anything. Later it gor so bad the smell was on my breath and it triggered a bronchial infection that lasted for three months. Since then i have found that the dealer knew it was a mold build up in the air conditioner and he has been spraying with ananti fungal treatment. This clears it for a while, but not permanently. I now have a bathroom cleaner that i sprayed in and that seems to also work.
The consumer was involved in a head on collision which caused the second row passenger seat to dislodge from the floor.the air bags deployed during this accident.

Total brake fade, not pedal, brakes just wouldn't hold.had normal pedal.according to an accident investigator i am talking to, he has at least one other case similar.this involved a 2001 nissan suv.in that case it was found that the right front wheel sensor was not sending the proper signal for a failure(which would have disabled abs) butnot proper signal for abs to work.
Consumer has taken vehicle todealer 3 times to repair brakes, but problem still exists.

We have very little mileage on our mercury villager sport van and the paint is chipping. Apparently, this should not be happening. It actually needs a complete paint job. We have never had a vehicle do this. It will rust if this is not taken care of. We only have app. 68,000 miles on a 2000 year car.

Tailgatehydraulic cylinder will not lift the gate upward properly.dealer notified, and informed consumer that it meetsthe prescribed specifications.
Our 2000 mercury villager has 3 motor mounts that needed to be replaced.if these had failed i was informed that the engine could fall out.the car only has 65000 miles on it and has been driven for about 54 months (because we have 6 payments left).this is either poor engineering, bad/defective parts or a combination of the two.
The upper strut mounting housings fill with water when it rains and when snow melts, causing premature rusting of the exposed nuts and bolts. The dealer states the problem was a design flaw.

When at a complete stop or at a low speed, when she tried to accelerate, the vehicle will not accelerate as expected.the contact stated that she has to putthe foot completely to the floor for the vehicle to accelerate.she has replaced the throttle body twice since she owned the vehicle.she stated that she had several close calls, almost resulting in several crashes.also, the stabilizing link was causing problems with the steering. When she turnedleft or right there was a noise coming from the front end of the driver side wheel.if she hit a hole thevehicle made a loud clunky noise. The contact had the stabilizer bar repaired 2/1/07, and she has had three tires replaced.the contact stated that dealership said the stabilizer barwas the cause of thetires wearing out so quickly.there have been 6 occurences of this failure.

The design of the instrument panel has a white face, which creates visibility problems when trying to read gauges during day light hours.*et
When air conditioner is turned on while stationary or movingthere is an explosion which causes the car to jolt forward momentarily.although this lasts only a couple of seconds the loud concussion and jolt can cause momentary loss of control and raises the risk of injury.t
The accelerator pedal has been sticking since about 60,000 miles.it now has over 100k.i have lubed every component from the pedal to the throttle plate, but it has not helped.when pulling away from a stop, the pedal (or linkage) hangs and excessive force must be applied, resulting in either wheel spin or lurching forward.
Sticky accelerator pedal on 2000 mercury villager.sticks about half the time causing abrupt surge into traffic and dislodging of occupants.
While drivingvehicleat any speed accelerator pedal sticks intermittently. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information. Ts..
The vehicle's throttle plate became stuck.as a result, the vehicle jumped forward without warning.pressing hard enough to free the accelerator caused sudden and unexpected acceleration in reverse. *sc
On two occasions, while my wife was driving, the engine began to race with no warning, nearly causing an accident.in one case, a pedestrian was in front of the vehicle and would have been severly injured if my wife was unable to keep the car under control.in both cases, the event occurred while she was manuvering in tight confines in a parking lot.the engine began to race and the power steering refuses to respond.she had all she could do with all her strength to keep the car under control by extreme pressure on the brakes.the first incident was reported to condit ford.the second just happened today and will be reported to condit ford tomorrow.there was no injury to anyone or damage to any property in these incidents but we do not want to wait until there is damage or injury, to report the problem.my wife successfully put the vehicle into "park" in both cases, after which the engine returned to a normal idle.the incidents happened about two months apart.the first in january, the second just today.
Truck was parked and without prior warning truck suddenly jumped out of gear, accelerating down a hill.
While traveling noticedgas pedal to floor board stuck, consumer depressed itwith force to release gas pedal.dealer stated problem was with the throttle body, that it needed cleaned and lubricated.

The throttle body unit was replaced due to constant sticking of the accelerator which made acceleration ruff and jerky. After replacing the accelerator the vehicle experienced high idle which caused the vehicle to surge.
Accelerator pedal sticks.
The vehicle's throttle plate became stuck, which caused the vehicle to jump forward without warning. Please provide additional information.2000 mercury villager has had throttle failure three times.throttle plate becomes stuck while driving causing vehicle to lurch forward without warning.failures occurred at 31,861, 48,831 and 65,718 miles.*mr
The gas pedal sticks on car like there was something underneath, and happened many times.the only way to get it to work is to press down on the pedal really hard, which is unsafe.*la
The accelerator pedal would stick constantly whenever the vehicle is at a stop position. The accelerator pedal would need to be applied harder to release the pedal. This problem caused the vehicle to lurch forward intermittently. Vehicle at the repair shop, and the dealer was not notified.
Dt*: the contact stated the accelerator pedal stuck when depressed, and when it unstuck, the added pressure caused the van to lurch forward.there were no warnings prior to the failure.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who determined there was not enough lubricant on the accelerator parts.the problem persisted after visiting the service dealer.updated 12/5/2006 - this has been a problem since the vehicle was purchased new.
Intermittent sticking gas pedal forcing driver to apply excessive force to gas pedal to un-stick. When pedal is forced to move, vehicle will rapidly accelerate. Most common occurrence is when vehicle has been stopped. Has happened while on the highway at high speeds.talked to other mercury villager owners and have heard of the same problem. No one was able to re-create the problem while at dealership or with a technician.
Acceleratorpedal sticks when depressed.
2000 mercury villager has common problem of gas pedal sticking and speedometer outage. Both of these are safety issues and need to be corrected.
The accelerator pedal sticks badly. When you finally manage to press hard enough to make it move, it causes the van to violently lurch forward which can lead to loss of control of the vehicle and/or an accident. *la
The consumer has experienced the following:rear wiper hangs-won't clear the glass(to open rear hatch glass)-motor inoperative, accelerator sticks-has to keep tapping it to loosen, the rear bench seat recliner will let go and seat will collapse, the left handle is loose, and the rear seat latch is binding/collapsing.
The gas pedal sticks quite often.i cannot simply press on the pedal to go, but instead must use force to engage gas pedal.
Accelerator pedal would stick making it difficult to depress to accelerate.upon further pressure the pedal would depress, but then the vehicle accelerated too fast.there was no in between.*la
Dt*: the contact stated while driving the accelerator pedal sticks.although the dealership was alerted no repairs were made.
Accelerator sticks when in idle position and requires force to overcome which causes vehicle to jump forward.this occured when vehicle had 36,000 miles and was repaired under warranty.now at 70,000 miles the problem re-occurs.this is a safety problem because the vehicle can jump forward and hita car or person in front.brakes are required to be applied at the same time the accelerator is pushed to prevent the vehicle from jumping forward.
Gas pedal sticks.*nlm
While traveling noticedgas pedal to floor board stuck, consumer depressed itwith force to release gas pedal.dealer stated problem was with the throttle body, that it needed cleaned and lubricated.
Accelerator pedal sticks.this has been a sporadic problem.at 35,500 miles, the dealer cleaned the throttle body; but problem has been occurring again at irregular intervals.vehicle now has 77,500 miles, and dealer states that vehicle needs new throttle body at a cost of $540.50.*la
Came to a red light and the accelerator stuck. I had to push very hard on the brake and put the vehicle in park in order to stop. This type of situation happened several other times. I took the vehicle to alexander ford in boaz, al. They said it was the throttle assembly, and would cost a lot of money to fix. The nissan dealership said that they had experienced many instances of the same type of problem. They also said that to their knowledge a throttle assembly does not exist. A relative who works on cars cleaned the "butterfly" and this temporarily corrected the problem.
The accelerator pedal would sticks intermittently from a stop position. This caused the vehicle to lurch forward when the accelerator pedal needed to be applied harder then normal.consumer anticipated this condition may cause a vehicle crash. The vehicle has been to two separate dealers, and they were unable to duplicate the problem.
Consumer states that while driving gas pedal sticks.consumer has to physically "mash" pedal to unstick.ts
The accelerator kept sticking to the point that upon taking off the tires squealed. Consumer took the vehicle to dealerfor service, and the dealer stated nothing was wrong.the consumerwas afraid to drive the vehicle.
Accelerator pedal consistently causes vehicle to lurch forward after you are able to depress pedal.*la
About 50% of the time the accelerator pedal sticks, as if there is something blocking it from being depressed. When it finally releases, the car shoots forward and the tires squeal.*la
While applying the accelerator pedal it would stay in an upward position, and would be hard to press down.consumer noticed that this happened intermittently. But vehicle would move sometimes on its own.consumer was able to apply the brakes to stop vehicle. Then, drove it to the dealer for inspection, butmechaniccould not duplicate the problem.
Gas pedal sticks on 2000 mercury villager.had vehicle since 2000.problem started in 2002 and got worse.we dealt with it but since my wife was diagnosed with ms in 2003, she found it hard to deal with.i deal with it, but find it very annoying.the problem is just as others describe where mostly when starting from a stop, the pedal sticks and requires a lot of pressure to release it cause hard starts and breaking traction.it sometimes occurs while driving.problems occurs about 50% of the time.
Accelerator pedal sticks.driver has to put excess pressure on pedal to unstick which causes unsafe "jackrabbit" surges and is a serious safety hazard.*la
After vehicle had been warmed up accelertor pedal would stick intermittently. Vehicle been to the dealer on two occasions, and they were unable to duplicate the problem. Feel free to provide any further infromation.
The location of the gas pedal and the brake pedal are too close together. Driver can press both pedals at the same time.thismay cause a loss ofcontrol and crash. It is possible to move gas pedal bracket where rods are attached.
When you push on the accelerator somtimes it sticks and like something is blocking it. When it unsticks the added preasure causes the van to shoot forward and you could rear end another vehicle or loose control around a corner. I report this and the dealership did not care because they were to busy tio get to it the day i took the vehicle in.
2000 mercury villager has experienced problems multiple times with the accelerator pedal sticking.we have only had the vehicle approximately 1 year and this has happened in excess of 100 times.we have taken the vehicle into the shop and they have not been able to correct the problem.what can be done to correct this problem and why hasn't there been a recall for this problem?my research reveals several complaints for this same exact problem.
I have a 2000 mercury villager. The power windows on the drivers side and passengers side have always had trouble at times going up and down.the passenger window has not gone up or down for a year.the drivers window just stopped working, as i was driving it went down and would not go back up.the dealer is telling me it is the motor and will be about $300 to fix.i have has other cars with power windows, never having any trouble.it does not seem that this is right, that the power windows should only work for 3 years and than have to have the motor replaced.i have to have access to the windows.
