The car continually locks itself (power locks). If i'm outside the car i have to repeatedly try to unlock it while at the same time it relocks itself. After numerous attempts it will stop and let me in. Same is true if i'm in the car except now i can't get out. It's usually much worse during the day than at night. Doesn't matter if you're in the car, trying to get in or nearby (i don't have a remote nor is it an option). The car can be sitting idle for hours and then all of a sudden starts locking and unlocking itself in rapid succession. Rarely if ever does it end up unlocked. Will occasionally go through the same procedure while driving. It doesn't effect anything but all the door locks (at least that i have been able to ascertain). If it matters i could send a video of this problem. The question below of when does this happen is moot. It happens every day at anytime. I've tried numerous workarounds with little success because the car seems to adapt and then becomes more difficult. ( believe me, i know what this sounds like.)
I purchased a used van, there seem to be several recalls either not idenitfied or not know about, either way they were not fixed. I have been unable to fine a dealer whom will acknowledge the recalls and repair them.
After turning the key in the ignition switch for the second time there was an explosion under the hood. The entire engine compartment caught on fire. From looking at the hood, it appeared that one of the hottest points was over the battery area. Everything forward of firewall was totally burned. The fire was put out by the fire department. Please provide any further details.
Head control module wire harness inback of the dash panel burned up.wires were completely melted.several electrical related problems:battery failure, open circuit in main engine harness to egr solenoid, overhead light failed, power door locks were operating by themselves, power locks would not lock with the switch, rear windshiled wiper switch failed and rear wipers would not stop even after fuse was removed, sliding door would not open with remote or switch.check engine light illuminated.power steering pump noisy and was replaced.air conditioner motor failed.when locking vehicle with key, horn would operate, keyless entry had just been installed.

When buying van i noticed a loud clacking noise in engine on cold starts. I said i didn't want car. They said if they put a new engine in car (23,000mi)would i buy it. I said yes. They put a rebuilt engine in van instead and didn't tell me. Now has 31,0000 miles on it and is clacking again plus shakes car violently first 6 to 8 seconds when starting cold. (intermittently) mechanic said it has bad piston problems. Ford motor co. Refuses to correct problem. Says it's out of warrenty. Why should i have to pay to replace the second bad engine in that car. They replaced a bad engine with a bad engine. I suggested trading car in for another one and they reluctantly offered me $4,000 to $5,000 max as trade in because the car had a bad engine. I was willing to purchase a new 1999 villager($22,000+). I'm being screwed badly by a company that refuses to acknowledge it has an engine program problem. Help me please. Dave mc manus.

Vehicle has stalled without warning at least 12 times over several years.this happens at any speed and has always happened in hot weather.the last several times were on a busy, curvy highway with no room to pull off road and almost led to an accident.the villager's fuel pump becomes very noisy when trying to restart engine.after about 15 to 20 minutes it will restart.please inform me of what the problem could be.it has never happened in cold weather.i am afraid an accident could happen.there is no warning at all.

I noticed there was an exhaust smell seeping into the van, i did some research on the internet and found that it was a common problem with quest's and villager's snapped exhaust manifold studs.i checked under the hood and sure enough there were 2 studs broken and missing.i called several dealers and got quotes and found a nissan dealer to do it for $800 they seem to have more experince doing it since it also is a problem with pathfinders and maximas. I called ford and they flat out refused to help out at all!
Heat shield around exhaust system loose.
Recall 00v419002/ fuel tank vent hose, received letter on 17 feb 2001. At that time consumer was told by dealer parts were not available yet. My 1996 mercury villager has been diagosed as having broken exhaust manifold bolts.after searching the web, it's become apparent that this is an extremely common problem with certain model years of the mercury villager, including mine.the design of this part of the car is definitely flawed because of the commonality of this problem.

A/c compressor failed with only 46,000 miles on this vehicle. Said compressor is only used during hot season. I think that they installed a substandard/defective compressor on this vehicle. Called a mercury dealership and was told that i have to pay for the repair/replacement since it is out of warranty. A/c compressors should last more than 46k on a vehicle. Please investigate. Thanks.

Failure on the fuel injectors, consumer noticed a half tank of gas mixed in the oil pan/line.
In warm weather, my car vents a terrible amount of gas fumes into the interior of the vehicle (particularly when a/c is on).this is a terrible problem and the dealer cannot fix it.in my opinion it is very dangerous, especially here at high altitudes in denver when tremendous pressure builds up in the gas tank which appears to be causing this problem.this is second vehicle of this type that i have had with this problem.i also had a 1995 nissan quest (the same car - nissan version) which did this.it got so bad that the dealer kept putting me in a rental car until they could fix it (which they never did).nissan ended up buying the car back.i thought that i just had a "lemon" (an isolated incident) and bought the villager because the sliding seat system in the car is necessary for me (it is the only car that has one, namely, rear seats that are on tracks/rails).anyway, i was surprised and angry to find out that the villager does the same thing and the dealer was never able to fix it.this is a serious and dangerous problem.if you want to hear more about it, feel free to contact me.

While i am driving the sliding door will pop. Currently it does not completely open, but is does become unsecured. The interior lights come on and when driving at night inhibits my vision and makes driving unsafe. My children are also the passengers near the door at this time and i am afraid that the door will fly open and cause harm even though they are in safety belts. I have had a mechanic look at the latch and he sees nothing that should be causing this to malfunction.
While driving at any speed the sliding door keeps opening.
The sliding door on the vehicle pops open when going over bumps, railroad tracks, etc.

I purchased a used van, there seem to be several recalls either not idenitfied or not know about, either way they were not fixed. I have been unable to fine a dealer whom will acknowledge the recalls and repair them.
The shoulder belts cut across my throat.i cannot locate an extension because the seatbelt connector is proprietary and the car manufacturer has been unable to provide a solution. I think i need an extension, to enable the shoulder belt to cross the center of my chest and across my shoulder.however due to the proprietary seat belt latch, i cannot locate a 3rd party to provide a solution.i'm concerned that in a minor accident where a properly-fitting seat belt would protect me from injury, i may receive a severe or fatal neck injury instead.is the car manufacture responsible for helping find a solution?i'm willing to pay for parts or special design changes.

After about $500 in repair charges i went to a different dealer only to find that a tsb had been issued and have it fixed now with replacing the master switch on the drivers side door. From talking to the sevice manager they have seen this problem on many vans like this, this is a small town dealer.
