I was traveling in the passing lane of a highway when the vehicle in front of me slammed on her brakes.i slammed on my brakes but skidded into the back of her vehicle at approximately 50 mph. I was thrustforward and back in my seat and suffered injuries to my neck and back. I went to the hospital by ambulance because i could not move from the head down to my waist. I thought i broke my neck. The whole front end of my car is smashed in and the airbags did not deploy! i have torn ligaments in my neck and numbing in my hands and feet due to injuries. I am diagnosed with sprained ligaments and whiplash and luckily no breaks. I have advanced degenrative cervical disease in my neck which now makes the pain unbearable since the crash! it's only been several days but the issue of the airbag is really bothering me! i can't believe i have airbags installed and they didn't work!!! what good are they???
I bought this car about two months ago drove it to rome ga.from centre al on way back the tires on back was eat down to wire belts
The air bag on the frontpassenger side has partially inflated
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the air bag deployed independently. The contact stated that she sustained a contusion to the upper lip, right eye and burns to the right arm. The contact stated that the vehicle was not in a crash however, one month prior to the air bag deployment, there was a flood in her city that shorted out some of the electrical units in the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 237,000.
This was the third incident in which the car stopped on me. (one other time when i was leaving my apartment and one wednesday evening on my way to bible study; both times had to coast to the road side and try and get it to start again). The third time i was driving down the highway at the speed limit of 40 mph.the car's dash board lite up; gave me one message that said "low pressure.the steering wheel locked and the gas pedal locked; i was able to coast to the side before it completed locked up and stopped one me.had myyear old grandson in the car with me.i let the car sit for a while and was able to get it started again.drove it back to my apartment and parked it.have not driven it since then -had it towed to a repair shop where it is right now - they want too much to have it repaired; they say there is a problem with the cylinder inside the ignition and that i also need a new key - want $1200 to repair it.i have been having problems trying to get it to started for about the past 6 months - have taken it to several repair shops; paid them but no one has solved the issue.ford states that my car is not included in the recall (or though one lady there said it was).i believe that if it isn't, it should me.is there anything else i can do to get this issue solved? has cost me lots of money, time and frustration and i am still walking.
While driving recently, my 2005 sable suddenly accelerated, forcing me to brake and put the car in neutral while at speed.this has happened 3 or 4 other times.in the past.now the cruise control does not work anymore.
The check engine light keeps coming on. Each time i have the part repaired or replace only to have it come again with a new code. I have replaced numerous parts and have spent over $2000 so far. The check engine light still keeps coming on. The car runs good. Sometimes the transmission acts up but everything seems to be working fine. I just cant stop the check engine lite to stay off.
This was the third incident in which the car stopped on me.once before i was leaving my apartment and another time when i was driving on my way to church.during all three incidents, i had to coast to the side of the road and try to restart the car. The third time i was driving on the highway, the dash board all of a sudden lite up and one of the messages was "low pressure".the steering wheel locked up and so did the gas pedal.i had just enough times to coast to the side of the road (good thing there side strip.i had my 5 year grandson in the car so that was really scary.the car has been parked ever since,i had it towed to a repair shop, the diagnostic suggests replacement of the ignition switch, ignition cylinder, anti-theft and ignition.
2005 mercury sable with only about 60,000 milescar accelerates by itself nearly causing an accident. The acceleration is so strong that it overpowers the brakes and happens while driving at any speed. The only way to stop the car is to shift to neutral and hope for the best. Ford dealership said it was a faulty speed control line which they want nearly $500 to replace.
The engine suddenly quit running while cruising at 60 mph in darkness on a heavily traveled congested 6 lane interstate highway.the time was 6:50 pm and there was no unusual weather.the car shook for a few seconds at the time of shut-down.i attributed the shake of the car to a loaded semi flat bed truck running in the next lane at approximately 65 mph. We were at normal spacing between vehicles.there was neither contact with this truck nor any other vehicle.the incident occurred on i270 near bridgeton, mo.we merged onto mo 340 and continued coasting until we found a safe place to pull over to call for help.i tried to restart the engine several times while coasting, to no avail.while waiting for help to arrive, i tried to understand what may have caused the engine to quit running.the fuel tank registered one-half full.i recalled reading in the owner's manual years ago about a fuel shut-off reset.i raised the trunk lid, readily found the reset.the red button was up--i pushed it down.i was able to immediately restart the engine. The engine was let run for at least 10 minutes without finding any problem.we continued on to our destination about 8 miles away. The car has been driven on 4 days since then for a total of about 250 miles, with no apparent problem.i write this because i find it extremely dangerous to have an engine shut down on a very congested interstate highway, after dark, with most traffic running 65 - 70 mph.during this incident, i feared being rear-ended as there was limited opportunity to get off the road.
Purchase vehicle used in june of 2015, one repair after another. Owned 1yr and here are repairs that we have had to do:drain plug replaced, trans filter, additive & fluid, re-built transmission, fluid, replace rear brake shoes, replace valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, egr sensor. Cost incurred $3,275.20way more than any car should have in one year!anybody going to reimburse these expenses?
Mercury sable tends to suddenly accelerate and lurge forward even with the foot on the brake.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop as the rpms increased. The contact stated that the failure would occur occasionally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred prior to purchasing the vehicle. The contact requested that the dealer repair the vehicle before the sale was finalized, but the issue persisted. The contact was unaware of the repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
I was driving along and all of a sudden my car begin to accelerate on it's on. The engine was revving and when i went to apply the brakes the car didn't at first slow down. When i finally reached home and put the car in park the engine was still revving as if i was stepping on the gas. It was very scary and intimidating. The same identical thing happened to my husband when i asked him to drive the car around the block.
This 2005 mercury sable (ls premium) just fell out of gear as i was on the road. Totally out of the blue with no warning whatsoever. I know now the transmission must be replaced for upwards of $1800.00. This car has just 30,000 miles on it. I find it completely unacceptable for a mildly driven car, owned by an elderly woman, should fail so badly after only 30,000 miles. This seems to be a common occurrence with this particular transmission also involving the ford taurus and the windstar...which i understand was recalled. This particular transmission is known to fail prematurely and without notice. This is an accident waiting to happen and i hope this is taken seriously. This is a defect that is way too common in these models and i will be looking into legal recourse against any and all involved. Please check into this unfortunate public safety hazard. Thank-you.

The contact was in theprocess of taking the vehicle to an authorized dealer for inspection.the failure and current mileages were 73,000.
Idles, makes noises, vibrates, drives by itself with out stopping during idling, don't shift into gears properly.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable.the contact stated that the heating and air conditioning failed in her vehicle.the dealer stated that a faulty cal gasket caused fluid to leak into the motor blower, which was the cause of the failure.the motor blower was replaced at the cost of $528.the manufacturer will not assist with the repair cost because the vehicle was out of warranty.the failure mileage was 36,000.

Shortly after buying this car last year, the throttle body failed at speed (approx 55), causing the car to accelerate uncontrolled on a curvy 2 lane highway. Had to break very hard against the surging engine to slow, and turn off engine with key to get car to stop. Very scary. Very dangerous. The ford dealer in kingston, ny, did not tell me this was a known problem! towed, rented a car, and paid $420.00 to repair.
I'll add my car to the list of sable/taurus transmission failures.failed with no warning whatsoever.the car suddenly came out of gear and the rpms shot way up.it's at a transmission shop now but it appears to be the same failure as hundreds if not thousands of others online.this is a known issue with bad torque converters/input shafts.why isn't there a recall/investigation going on for this issue.i probably won't keep the car after it's repaired as many have reported repeat failures on rebuilt transmissions even though i'll be out around $2000.00.i don't trust the car anymore.
I drived it on highway and suddenly there was noise and rmp passed 4000 but no accelerated. I managed to stopped on shoulder, and restarted the car, engine run ok, and car wasn't moving, either forward or backward. I could be hit by other cars if i didn't manage to shoulder. I searched online and i found out a lot of complaints about mercury sable's transmission issues. This is very dangerous and people may get killed because of sudden transmission failure without any warning. My car has about 88700 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle abnormally accelerated without warning. The failure stopped when the vehicle was placed in neutral. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where the mechanic confirmed that the kick down cable for the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 58,020.
I was driving along on a busy street at about 2:50pm and suddenly without any warning lights coming on, the transmission on my 2005 sable failed. I could not get the vehicle into any gear, drive or reverse. The vehicle appeared to be locked into neutral. I became stuck in the middle of heavy traffic. I got out of the vehicle and with the help of two young men pushed the vehicle into a nearby parking lot. I had the vehicle towed to pat milliken ford, redford, mich. They indicated it would take two days at least before they could advise me on the vehicle repair. The next day they called and advised me the transmission had to be replaced and it would cost $3400.00. Based on my knowledge of the powertrain system in cars this estimate was excessive. I spoke to the service advisers in person at the dealership and learned they only have two transmission technicians. In my opinion it was easier for the dealer to replace the transmission that to repair it. Its also more profitable for the dealer. It is likely this situation exist all across the usa. I had the vehicle towed to usa transmission in livonia, mich. And i explained what had occurred as i was driving along that day. They immediate told me that based on their repair experiences with the ford taurus and mercury sable, the torque converter was most likely the problem. They indicated their shop repairs a lot of taurus's and sables for the same transmission problem that i experienced. After testing, they advised the torque converter was the problem. The actual repair cost was $295.00 for the torque converter plus $50.00 for trans fluid and $695.00 for labor, total repair cost including sales tax was $1060.00. Before leaving the shop i looked at my torque converter. They indicated the inner spline on the torque converter is wearing out. This sudden failure caused by the torque converter is a safety concern.

Transmission died while driving down the highway.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle began to suddenly decrease in speed. The contact stated that the vehicle reacted as if it were in neutral. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
I was driving to work on the evening of january 23, 2012 when i turned through a stop light pressed on the gas pedal and the car made a vroom noise like it wanted to go but there was no power.the car never died.i coasted down the hill onto a side street.the car was towed to a transmission repair company.we ended up having to have the transmission torque converter replaced.we were told that this is unusually for a car of this age.i checked for recalls and there is not one for my make and model but there is one for the ford freestar.i am just wondering since this is a ford product that the same torque converter could have been used in my car.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable.the contact powered the vehicle on and attempted to shift gears when the vehicle would not shift.the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 35,200.
When accelerating from a stop, all forward power was lost--as if my car had been placed in neutral. Vehicle had to be towed. Transmission shop reported that worn splines in the torque converter caused the difficulty. Nhtsa recall 12v-006 covers this exact same problem for mercury monterey/ford freestar vehicles, and the torque converter shaft is the same as in my car, yet ford says it is not covered for mercury sable. Ford rep encouraged me to file this nhtsa report. Repair cost me approximately $2000 out of pocket.
While traveling down the interstate 90 highway southbound on 10 june, 2016 the vehicle suddenly and without warning lost forward motion power and the rpm level of the car shot up suddenly.the vehicle rolled to a stop on the side of the highway while still running, but there was no vehicle movement provided in any of the automatic transmission gears, including reverse.the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop in spooner, wi where a repair bill estimate of $3-$4k was provided.....rebuild current or replace with remanufactured.
After leaving a stop, the car was able to move, then all of a sudden, the car would not change gears and stayed in a nuetral position. After safely parking the car, it will not shift into drive or reverse. Looking online i see numerous consumer with the same issue and the cost is more than the car is worth, but is a known issue that the manufacturer will not take the blame on.
Approximately 200 miles after factory dealer transmission service we pulled up to an intersection to turn left, after slowing to turn the car became immobile and wouldn't move under it's own power.the transmission just whined and wouldn't engage.called numerous transmission shops and dealerships describing what happened and every one of them knew what was wrong before i had finished asking my questions.

Car started accelerating on its own and had to put the car in neutral and put both brakes to make it stop.the car lurches forward when it is stopped at signals.did some research online and found that this has been an issue that nhs has been investigating and is related to the throttle not closing. Http://autos.yahoo.com/motoramic/probe-1-9-million-fords-sudden-acceleration.why no recall yet?
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, he experienced a sudden loss of motive power with no warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician advised that the transmission torque converter and transmission shaft oil pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,585 and the current mileage was 97,200.
When entering the car after a basketball game i started the vehicle and tried to go into reverse but the car remained in neutral as it would not shift into gear. Prior to this i had never noticed any issues with the transmission. I was told by our mechanic the torque converter had given out and needs to be replaced. After doing extensive research i found there are hundreds if not thousands of other mercury sable owners that have experienced the exact same issue with their transmission. Ford recalled the same part on other similar make and models vehicles. This needs to be recalled of mercury sables as well.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph , he experienced a sudden loss of acceleration power with no warning. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic for a diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the transmission torque converter needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any further assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure was 130,000 and current mileage was 140,000.
While driving recently, my 2005 sable suddenly accelerated, forcing me to brake and put the car in neutral while at speed.this has happened 3 or 4 other times.in the past.now the cruise control does not work anymore.

Driving a 2005 mercury sable gs at 30 mph, transmission comes out of drive gear and will not shift into any gear but park. Stuck in the middle of a major intersection for hours, needed to be towed. Repairs include rebuild of transmission and torque converter. There was no warning, lights, or strange behavior just suddenly occurred.
While driving and after coming to a complete stop the automatic transmission would not change gears. W/o warning no previous car problems, regular vehicle check-ups and the transmission goes out. I have been told by a transmission repair shop that it is the converter. After calling that shop and a ford dealership they all have had stories about this piece going out in the transmission and basically indicated that i need a new transmission or a rebuilt one.keep in mind this is a 2005 mercury sable.
Driving down street, stopped to turn, then accelerated when transmission went out, no warning signs just went out, no reverse or forward use. Sent car to repair shop and told no codes show up on computer no signs of leaks or damage to transmission, bad torque converter. Keeping old converter after hearing of similar problems with other vehicles that share same transmission. Called several transmission shops and ford dealerships and it seems to be a fairly common problem.
I was driving home from work when my car told me to have my transmission checked.i took it to the shop and the mechanic told me that i have to have my transmission rebuilt.the car only has 70,000 miles on it, and i bought it when it had 31,000 miles in 2007.the mechanic proceeded to inform me that the make and model of my car has continuous problems with the transmission, and that he alone had fixed at least 10 or 12 within the past few months.
2005 mercury sable, auto trans, 43,000 miles, up to date on service, no warning of failure, driving in slow lane coasts to stop with engine revving. Not comfortable to be stuck on busy road in detroit in the dark with cars swerving to avoid me. Identified as the spline on the torque converter. Apparently this is a common problem with this vehicle and its twin the taurus.http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f11889c (see #53).
Dt*:the contact stated the third row seat was installed without seat belts.the dealer and manufacturer have been alerted.the consumer is waiting on parts from another dealer. Updated 07/13/06.
While driving the vehicle in neighborhood situations or other situations the vehicle accelerates on its own beyond the on the desired speed this causes the car to be difficult to control and very difficult to stop increases the stopping distance needed to avoid an accident to stop at a red light or stop sign it also causes the engine to race even when placed in neutral. Recently why stop at a stop sign the car was pushing it south forward so hard i had a hard time keeping it stop and it actually moved me beyond the stop sign into a oncoming traffic.extremely dangerous situation there will b fatalities if this is not corrected. This spontaneous acceleration even allows me to drive up hills without having my foot placed on the gas car will not slow down or stop easily. This started in march and it's happening everyday causing wear and tear on the brakes it makes it difficult to steer and i am in fear while driving. I've now started to drive with the brakes on 100 percent of the time in order to keep the car at a controllable speed i've read other complaints on mine similar to this i believe it's a known issue and i'm hoping for a speedy recall by ford to correct the cause. Since this is a known issue and and i think they linked it to either the accelerator cables or the cruise control .while driving in neighborhood traffic at 25 miles an hour the car can accelerate above 50very dangerous!!!!!!
Can not see out my front and back windows. I will clean the windows 3-4 times a day. Improper codes requesting repair and once repaired still the same thing. Starts no cranks. Very dangerous conditions, could not continue to work due to vision issues. Anti theft functions preventing me from operating my car.

I was driving 25 miles an hour with my children down the road for the start of a long trip and the car accelerated on its own and i had to use my brakes to not hit anything or run a red light. This has been continuous since that day and i can tell it has done damage to my brakes. They will have to be fixed but if this continues i'm afraid there will be an accident.

Traveling down road, heard a loud noise, and lost control of car.car is one year old and has 30,000 miles.car pulls to the right and slams into guard rail.$4000 of body and suspension damage.car sent to local ford dealer where purchased from.dealer instructed to retain all suspension parts by me and the insurance appraiser.dealer conveniently loses the steering knuckle which from my initial investigation appeared to have been the cause of the accident(i have high res. Digital photos of the part).the pa state police deemed the cause of the accident mechanical failure.driver was stiff and sore with serious emotional issues due to accident that she had no control over.still do not have car back after 3 weeks(repair was supposed to take 8 days). No one has stated that ford is going to make this right.the car is still under warranty but at this time it seems myself and insurance company will be paying the bill.
Consumer complaint regarding glare through the windshield is high, reflection of cars interior.the passenger windshield wiper doesn't clear the upper portion of the glass.
Blower motor failed, water leak on passenger carpet.very common issue that ford will not address.service was done to replace blower motor, wiper cowl, cabin filter, and rain hat extension at owner's cost.parts replaced were same as original so failure is likely to occur again.
The cars underbody has fully rusted every since i bought it back in 2015 my floor panels are completely rusted. The cars side skirts came off the car on both sides because i hit a pothole in the street, under that is full of rust. The car was driven to and from work. I feel like this is posing a threat to me as well as other drivers. Anything can come a loose and i can crash and who knows what else can happen.
I bought this car about two months ago drove it to rome ga.from centre al on way back the tires on back was eat down to wire belts
Check transmission light on. Seeing higher rpm but not shifting hard.fluids checked - ok.transmission codesp0723 and p0733 these are codes for slipping issues.they rebuilt the transmission.mileage was only 68769 on car.
The car started accelerating on its own to 80 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.there was a high risk of striking pedestrians.immediately put the car in neutral and slammed the brakes and also engaged the parking brake.it was a very scary experience.took the car to the dealer and the dealer was able to replicate the problem in the parking lot.got the car throttle body replaced for $376.apparently the throttle body sticks.did some research on the internet and found that nhtsa has been investigating this issue for a long time.not sure why a recall has not been issued?this defect could result in people getting killed-- i feel that i have a responsibility to ensure that something is done so that others do not experience the same problem.
Can not see out my front and back windows. I will clean the windows 3-4 times a day. Improper codes requesting repair and once repaired still the same thing. Starts no cranks. Very dangerous conditions, could not continue to work due to vision issues. Anti theft functions preventing me from operating my car.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable.the contact stated that the accelerator pedal would become stuck and the vehicle would lunge forward abnormally, causing the vehicle to drive uncontrollably on the highway.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the throttle body.the manufacturer was not contacted.the failure and the current mileage was 30,000.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while at a stop sign the vehicle erroneously accelerated. The contact shifted into the neutral in order to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to shift back into drive where the vehicle resumed normal function. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 152,500.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. While driving at approximately 15 mph and making a right turn, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration without warning. The brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. The failure mileage was 142,780. Updated 8/19/15
My car is accelerating on its own like the gas pedal is stuck or something. The rpm goes all the way up to 4,000. It is very scary because you don't have control of the car speeding on its own which is very hard to come to a complete stop.when i finally manage to stop the car by putting the car in neutral and hitting my breaks, i then put the car in park. The car still continues to accelerates on its own. I have to tap the gas pedal to make it calm down or it will keep accelerating even if i turn the vehicle off and start it back up again.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving above 60 mph, the vehicle would unexpectedly accelerate without warning. The contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle would then have to be shut off in order to stop the vehicle from accelerating. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 145,000 and the current mileage was 147,585.
Driving the vehicle at about 30 mph.the car accelerated to about 60 mph at which time i was riding the brakes the entire time till i could pull over.the engine goes to 4000 rpm while in park.if restarted its the same thing.this was happening off and on.i took to garage and they cleaned and checked carburetor and fuel pump.it continued again and i finally took it in again.this time they changes the cruise control cable.again, it continued again and i finally took it to the dealership which they replaced the gasket.and again i am still having problems with the vehicle.i would love to sell this car and get a new one, but i cant afford it.i was hoping to be able to give this car to my 16 year old daughter, but that is totally out of the question as i do not feel the car is safe to be driving.i also can not afford to be taking this vehicle in the shop and paying for parts that just don't seem to be working. Please look in to this matter as i believe their are many people out there in my same situation, but have not taken action as they just give up.the last thing we need is for people to get injured or die from this problem.
Entered interstate 81, accelerated to 65 miles per hour and set cruise control, drove for several minutes whenfor no apparent reason the car accelerated to app. 85 miles per hour at which time the cruise control ceased to work. I would like to know if there were any other reports of this happening.
Gas pedal sticks. Cruise control randomly turns itself on vehicle accelerates on it's own without warning. Have had to shut the car off or shift into neutral while driving. It's absolutely terrifying.
My 2005 mercury sable suddenly had the cruise control stop working approximately 30 days ago. The next day some serious issues began to happen. I was traveling down a curvy 4 lane road at the posted speed limit of 45mph. Knowing there was an up coming light i took myfoot off the brake and anticipated the normal deceleration. Suddenly rather than slowing down my engine independently revved up to 3/4 rpm causing me to instantly jump to 50/55 mph.apart from the immediate panic i have never had a vehicle react in this manner and was at a loss for what to do. I hit the brakes extremely hard to combat the acceleration while putting the car into neutral (still going 40+ mph).despite having the car in neutral it was still revving itself at around 3 rpm. After slowing down to a safe speed i turned into a parking lot and immediately turned the car off. I left the car resting for about minutes and when started again, it immediately began revving the same as before. I am very concerned and have been since troubleshooting with my mechanic. This is clearly a very dangerous issue and significantly lowers my mpg while putting triple the stress on my brakes.
While driving i experience acceleration of vehicle. I pulled over on a side street and into a parking lot put it in neutral. It continued to rev high and subsequently i turned the vehicle off. When i turned back on it continued to rev and i turned it off. On second attempt of turning vehicle on it began to idle correctly. Has recurred 5 times since first malfunction on oct. 31st.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 60 mph.the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic however, the vehicle was neither diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the engine rpms increased excessively and the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired,. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000 and the current mileage was 103,353.
Car suddenly accelerated.i traveling under 30 mph car began accelerating on it's own!i braked and rpm's continued rev-ving at 3000.put car in neutral- did not stop rev ving.placed in park- same thing.turned it off- same thing when the light turned green i put the car in drive and it peeled away.at that time i tapped the gas and the problem corrected itself.this was the third incident of sudden acceleration.first time in june of 2012- my mechanic cleaned the throttle.however, this time i took it to a ford dealership and the culprit was a broken cruise control cable.ford/mercury needs to warn consumers to get the cruise control cables checked! can provide documentation from the dealership if needed.
I was driving down the road and my car began accelerating on its own.when i came to a stop, it would lurch forward and rev very high.from a complete stop, the car was able to accelerate up to 50+ on its own without ever touching the accelerator.to get it to stop, i either have to shut the car off or "punch" the accelerator.
The car is in drive and as you're driving along the car begins to accelerate on its own. When the brakes are applied the car is still pulling forward as if the gas is being applied. When the brake is released the car lunges forward on its own.i'm extremely angry that this problem has not been recalled when a car accelerates on its own and cars have been recalled for less. Regardless of the age of the car do something to fix our cars!!!! fix the problem and put it on your recall list.
My car has accelerated without application of the throttle.i did not have cruise control on or engaged and the car continued to function as if the gas pedal was depressed.this has happened on several occasions now.once, while at a speed of about 30 mph, i was able to safely pull over and put the car in neutral.the engine rpms continued to race upward as if the car was under load and under throttle input.there were no floor mats or any other obstacles or objects making contact with any controls or devices.
Accelerating from a stop light and letting off accelerator paddle, the pedal. Approaching the next light, braking hard helped. But putting the car in neutral was the best option, given the speed and how close the light was when i was not able to stop the peddle from sticking. At the light in neutral, i pumped the accelerator pedal several times until it did not stick any more. If breaking hard andputting the car in neutral, if going the posted speed or more traffic, there definitely would have been an accident.that day i saw on different website complaints about this and called the dealership. They inspected the car and lubricated the accelerator cable throttle body and the cable just incase. But they could not find a problem.
When you accelerate from a stop to get up to the speed limit or flow of traffic when you remove or ease upyour foot from the gas pedal the rpm's shoot up to 3500/4000 rpm and the pedal continues to depress, increasing the vehicle speed. Pressing the brake will slow the vehicle, but the engine continues to rev-up.you must kick the gas pedal two or three times to get it to disengage.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently to 80 mph, without warning. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle down. In addition, the vehicle then failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact contacted an independent mechanic and informed them of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. The vin was not provided.
Vehicle maintained and accelerated speeds while on level ground with no cruise control engaged and foot off of the pedal.depressing the brake slowed the car down, however rpms were still pushing 3.5x1000 according to the instrument panel.turning cruise control on/off seemed to fix it.upon starting the engine, car idles extremely high upwards of 2.75-3.00x1000 rpm's.turned cruise control on and off then i heard a click...then power cycled the engine and normal rpm's since.however cruise control does not work anymore.
While driving recently, my 2005 sable suddenly accelerated, forcing me to brake and put the car in neutral while at speed.this has happened 3 or 4 other times.in the past.now the cruise control does not work anymore.
Throttle was randomly sticking upon acceleration; problem became progressively worse and was reproducible at times.on one occasion car was stopped via brake and shifted into park while engine continued to run at 4,000 rpm. Brought car to dealer on 12/02/2010; problem was diagnosed and described as "cruise control cable holding throttle open."dealer replaced part with part no. Yf1z-9a825-ca. (problem was reproducible without any use of cruise control system.)no problems with throttle sticking occurred until approximately 5/20/2012 ( 95,600 mileage) when same behavior began to recur at freeway speeds though without the cruise control being used.
The cruise control cable went loose from the throttle and my can accelerated without my pushing on the gas pedal. It was very dangerous to drive.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. While traveling 40 mph, the contact noticed that the throttle had become stuck causing the vehicle to accelerate abnormally.in order to stop the failure, the contact had to depress the accelerator pedal vigorously 3-4 times. The vehicle was not diagnosed and no repairs were performed. The current mileage was 140,000 and the failure mileage was 19,000.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal would become stuck sporadically and would cause the vehicle to accelerate abnormally. The contact believed the failure was caused by the cruise control because the failure would only occur when the cruise control cable was disconnected. When the failure would occur, the contact would shift into neutral to stop the failure. The vehicle had not been inspected. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 89,000.
2005 mercury sable ls while driving throttle got stuck causing unintended and uncontrollable acceleration. Had serviced at ford dealer found defect with cruise throttle cable and clip on throttle body. Problem needed both cable and throttle body replaced to operate safety.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 5 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck. The contact crashed into a guard rail. There were no injuries. A police report wasfiled. The vehicle was totaled. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not 90,000
The contact owns a 2005 mercury sable.the contact stated that the accelerator pedal vibrates when accelerating; the greater the speed, the more vibration occurs.the dealer repositioned the cable underneath the pedal, but the failure persists.the failure has occurred each time the vehicle is driven since the date of purchase.the engine size was unknown.the current mileage is 19,800 and failure mileage was 19,564.
Got onto express way and tried to set cruise control at 70 mph. Cruise control wouldn't maintain speed, so i shut off. Got off of express way to a 40 mph zone. Took foot off of brakes, and car was accelerating to 60 mph. In park 4000 rpms. Incident has occurred 4 times in the past 3 days. Until this time, i never had any problems. Now it will randomly kick on at any point in time (hour into driving, five minutes, 3 hours etc.) cannot get to shut off when it occurs. Have not used cruise control option since 1st incident. Does not stop if you shut car off and turn back on.
