While driving 45 mph consumer's vehicle collidedwith anothervehicle head on, and the air bags did not deploy.*mr

The contact owned a 2003 mercury sable. While driving 35 mph, another vehicle collided with the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt did not lock, which forced the contact to strike the steering wheel during the crash. The contact sustained a concussion, back, and neck injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and then towed to a junk yard. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 100,000.

While driving at approximately 55 to 60 mph vehicle was involved in acollision.upon impact, driver's side air bag did not deploy.vehicle was totaled.

On june 11, my mother was involved in a fender bender in traffic. When she pulled out of traffic into a shopping plaza she inadvertently accelerated instead of braking. Her 2003 mercury sable wagon spun around and crashed first into a huge cement lampost, then proceeded to run over two shrubs and a tree where the car finally stopped. The passenger side air bag deployed but the driver's side did not, even though the entire front end was totally demolished. Although my mother was wearing a seat belt, the lack of the air bag going off resulted in my mother snapping forward resulting in a spinal cord injury to the neck and paralysis from the chest down- a c6 injury. Since the car was only two years old, it doesn't make sense that the air bag didn't deploy. There must be some defect with that model and i want to make sure that no one else suffers and ends up paralyzed. The auto body shop stated that they'd seen other ford cars in total collisions that also didn't have the drivers side air bag go off. He thought it might have to do with the sensors. Either way, the product isn't working.

Driver's side airbag failed to deploy on front impact car crash.the car is a 2003 mercury sable.the passenger air bag did deploy (though there was no passenger).the highway patrol cut open the steering wheel cover to reveal that there was indeed a driver's side air bag with the number tgp037spaeit p5206000-00ee09.the vin number of the vehicle is [xxx] my daughter was driving and is unsure of the speed of the car when she lost control of the car and hit the wall.i'm guessing it was in the 35-45 mph range.her injuries were minor - thanks to the seat belt - i am very concerned that the air bag did not deploy to offer her further protection as expected. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My wife swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle encroaching into her lane. She lost control of her 2003 mercury sable and slammed head-on into the concrete center divider of the westbound 60 fwy diamondbar ca. The passenger side air bag deployed, but the drivers side bag did not. She suffered a concussion, a fractured mandible, and a molar tooth was broken from the jaw bone which the maxillo-facial surgeon was unable to save. The car was a total loss.

While driving at 45 mph the consumer's vehicle was struck by another vehicle, and the passenger air bag deployed, however, the driver's side air bag did not deploy.the vehicle was totaled.*sc the vehicle was sent 10-15 feet into a ditch.the insurance adjuster stated that the engine had broken off all of it's mountings and shifted 3 inches. *sc

2003 mercury sable station wagon ran off the road into a stone lined ditch.the passenger air bag deployed but the driver's side air bag did not.*mr..... On april1, 2005 while driving within the speed limit vehicle ran off the road into a rock lined ditch. Upon impact, driver's side air bag failed to inflate. Driver sustained chest pains and numerous burns. Driver was in pain for about 4 weeks.

I own a 2003 mercury sable, and approximately back in 2010 i experienced my first failure of the blower resistor motor. Then one month later i experienced another failure, being under warranty they replaced it, another month goes by and yet another failure, take it back and we tried to figure why it was failing. We then come up my car was mainly garaged, and i rarely drive in the rain. On the three different dates of failure we were experiencing heavy rain that i had driven in and upon the next day or two going out it failed. They then put silicone around and near everything. Now it is may of 2012 and i experience another failure, doing some of my own investigating i am shocked to know that this is a known issue for 2001 - 2004ford taurus and mercury sable cars. And there is a tsb 04-15-3 on how to resolve this issue. To me this is a very potential fire hazard since when the water comes intocontact with live electricity to cause the blow out can indeed cause a shock or even damage the blower motor.and if a person foot happens to be in the area when the short happens they could get an unexpected jolt and get hurt. This should be a mandatory recall event for this problem before someone gets seriously injured.

Heater/ac fan continuously stops working.i first replaced the motor resistor in august 2012.it worked for 2 weeks when it broke for the 2nd time.i went to fix it again, only to find out it stops working again after 2 more weeks.it is now october and the motor resistor broke 2x and now the motor blower is completely gone. No ac/heater. The temperature in ny in october is not compliant with no heater.this is ridiculous. Broke 3xs in a span of 6 weeks or so.

Water and rain leak into blower housing and then onto passenger floor. In heavy rain the blower can be heard agitating the water. There are many reports that this will eventually disable the blower motor and therefore the vehicle will have no defroster, creating a potential hazard.

I went to leave from a local park on a saturday evening, but my vehicle would not move out of park.i had to call a tow truck.the tow truck driver showed me a trick how to get the vehicle to start, by turning the ignition key ever so slightly and then trying to move the shifter to neutral.once in neutral i started the vehicle and drove home.after driving the vehicle for almost a week by starting in neutral, i was stopped on the following friday by police.i was informed that i didn't have any working brake lights. I drove home and looked on the internet if there were any recalls on this vehicle.well, there was a recall done in 2004 (nhtsa action number: rq03008), but i was informed by ford motor company that my vehicle based on its vin was not apart of the recall.i requested to speak to a supervisor and was instructed that someone would contact me on that following monday. I was indeed contacted by ford motor company and informed again, that based on my vin, that i did not qualify as a part of the recall.i was told if more complaints were made, then something could possibly be done.i told the ford representative that i was not interested in having my vehicle repaired as i had the repair done based on the recall information for approximately $50.the issue was exactly as it was described on the nhtsa's website, motortrend and ford motor company's.the repair took approximately 15 minutes and then i was able to start the vehicle in park and the brake lights were functioning.my concern is that for almost a week i drove with no brake lights in a vehicle where i drive around with my wife, a toddler, and an infant and at any point i could have been rear ended because of this defect in the vehicle. The vehicle is 10 years old, it will never have enough complaints. However, it does not diminish the potential for loss of life from this detect.

Alarm system goes off at will, sounding horn, flashing lights, causing other flowing traffic to be distracted. Concerned that the alarm system may activate while in motion. Concerned that it may stop the vehicle in traffic.

Driving down interstate 90 in south dakota when the electrical just shut off at night.we had no power, lights or steering control going 75 mph.this has happened several times a year since we got the vehicle in 2009.at that speed and with no one able to see us due to no lighting we become a hazard to ourselves and others.i would like to know if this is an endemic problem with this model and why no one can seem to find the issue.we have taken it to 3 repair places including a ford dealership and no one can find anything wrong.we would like ford to make it right.

Outside lights will not go offneed new stop lamp and air filter both parts were recalled in 2004 and should be replaced with new for free [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Water and rain leak into blower housing and thenonto passenger floor. This happens every time it rains and this disables the heating the and cooling systems in the car.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. While the vehicle was operated, it lost engine power without warning. The vehicle was towed to dom's getty service station (308 mercer st, hightstown, nj) where it was diagnosed as a transmission failure. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

Driving on i-25 northbound, at 50 mph, the vehicle started to accelerate, with my foot off the accelerator.went from 50 to 65...stepped on brake, brakes slowed/stopped the acceleration...pulled off at the first exit ramp.looked under hood, for anything not correct...nothing visually detected.did this one more time...3 days later.have not experienced since.

Throttle cable stuck, engine at 1800 tpm, engine revved to 2600 rpm, inability to slow vehicle, surging. Required hard breaking. Once car stopped, idle dropped to 900 rpm after 15-30 seconds. Happens with increasing frequency. Engine surges at start, revs to 2100 then to 2600. Inspected cable, throttle and cruise control cable point of entry to supporting bracket plastic shattered. Cable emits sound from binding. Took to ford dealer, they indicated my vehicle was not part of the recall although the problem has been clearly documented with the same make, model, year and engine.

I pulled up to a stoplight.when it turned green, i depressed the accelerator and the vehicle's engine revved as though it were in neutral.when shifted into any forward gear or reverse gear, it would not move.it was as though it were stuck in neutral.the transmission specialist said it was a common problem, knew exactly what it was, and quipped that he was surprised mine had lasted this long.upon researching online, it appears that this is an incredibly widespread problem. In fact, ford knows it is a problem as it has recalled two of their minivans that contain the very same transmission.it is the same part failing.why does it warrant a recall in one vehicle but not another??

The consumer received recall 04v105000 regarding air filter paper.the dealer claimed that the recall part was replaced, but the consumer insisted that it wasn't replaced.the consumer found that the original air filter was still in the vehicle.the service dealer fixed the air leak in the drivers side door and replaced the air filter. *sc

I have had my compressor in dec 2008 to fix the ac problem i had then but it never was. Then my mechanic suggested that was the condenser changed and now that hasn't solved the problem. I am beginning to wonder if this is not a problem the manufacturers need to look at. With this economy spending the money a i am not to mention that i am still making payments to the finance company is an added headache. Please help!

Vehicle accelerates on it's own. Have had multiple problems where i go to stop and car accelerates at a stop sign or light. I have almost rear ended multiple cars because of this. While going from a red to green light on a hill my sable stalled and began to roll backwards, almost crashing into the car behind me, if it hadn't been for my quick reaction. Vehicle will idle very high, 2.5rpms at the lowest, while sitting in park after startup. After a 5 minutes it will sometimes drop down to 750-1000rpms, other times it will continue to idle high. During drive it will continually accelerate to around 40 mph on it's own. When i brake it will idle high and lurch forward, until i'm forced to push the brake all the way to the floor. Then car will either continue to idle high or drop so low that it stalls. Usually i drive with two feet at lights or signs to be able to rev engine from stalking. Engine light came on, code read idle air control valve, so it was replaced. Problem continued. Took to garage and it looks like the intake manifold gasket. All vacuum lines were replaced as well. Am going to fix the gasket and sell. Car scares me too much to drive. Multiple panic and anxiety attacks. Please recall this, extremely unsafe.

Dt*:the contact stated at various speeds, the engine would jerk.the dealership determined the engine mounts needed to be replaced, but the vehicle could still be driven.a month later, while attempting to proceed at a stop sign, the vehicle would not move forward.the vehicle was towed to the dealership, where it was determined the motor mounts caused the failure.

Whenever the car is rained upon, water runs into the fan motor air intake, then into the fan blower motor, which is inside the car behind the glove box, and then runs out onto the right front passenger floorboard.i have had to replace one blower motor that shorted out from the water in it, and have to pull the carpet up so it can dry out.also, afraid of the possibility of mold growing either in the air vents or in the carpet.i took the car to the dealership and the service representative told me he has seen other cars like mine having the same problem.the dealership sells a part to install under the hood over the air blower intake to channel water away to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated that the vehicle would involuntarily accelerate while at complete stops. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was due to a sensor that could not be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.updated 04/10/12*ljthe consumer stated when the engine was started, it would run at a high rate above idle.it would continue until the engine warmed up. The blower motor on my 2003 mercury sable was sitting in a pool of water, ruining the motor. Caused by faulty design by ford motor co. Water gets into this area by improper design, allows water to reach area when the wiper cowleventually warps, or when the a/c drain clogs or water leaking thru the firewall.

2003 mercury sable blower motor inoperable. Occurred in january as an intermittent issue. Motor failed completely in mar 2005. I just bought this car and was having a problem with my brake lights not working and then every time i tried to take the car out of park it got stuck. My battery also went dead.all within days of my purchase.i researched online and found that there was a recall that had all of these problems and they were connected. When i went to the ford dealership they told me there was no recall for this car which i find hard to believe because it is the exact same problem as listed in the recall.my car is a 2003 mercury sable. This malfunctioning could render the stop lamps inoperable or cause them to stay on all the time. This could cause confusion to a following driver, which could lead to a crash.consequence:in addition, if the switch and/or associated wiring fail in the open position, the brake lights will not actuate and the driver will not be able to shift the vehicle out of park. If they fail in the closed position, the brake lights will remain on, which will not allow the speed control to be activated. This could also cause the battery to discharge.

I have a 2003 mercury sable with a failed brake light switch that ford acknowledged and released a recall for (nhtsa campaign id number: 04v106000, nhtsa action number: rq03008) however, when i called ford customer care they declined to assist in the matter until i urged them that they needed to repair the issue at no cost to me.after a long discussion they said they would pay for the repairs, but only after i paid a diagnostic service fee to rule out any other cause for the failure.as it is now the car is very difficult to get out of park, and when it is the brake lights are intermittent at best.i do not want this to result in an accident or injury as a result of ford's neglect to resolve this issue.is there anything the nhtsa odi can do to help me resolve this issue as quickly as possible? thank you, scott ritter

2003 mercury sable with 20,000 miles on it.while driving at 60 mph, i stepped on the accelerator to pass a truck, i heard a thump and then the engine went to idle and we lost all power.we pulled over and found that the accelerator cable had snapped.i found a small piece of plastic on the floor that came from the mechanism.we were stranded 100 miles from the nearest city on a sunday night.i subsequently asked the rental car manager if he had ever heard of this before and he said the same thing happened to a taurus he was driving.this, as i am sure you know a very dangerous situation - if we had been on a crowded interstate there would have been serious problems.we were lucky.is there any record of this problem occurring.judging by the plastic linkage i bet it has happened a number of times.please let me know.*la

I have a 2003 mercury sable wagon vin [xxx].it's suppose to have an 18 gallon gas tank. I can never get more than 13 gallons in and the gauge never shows full. The dealer had the car 4 days but did nothing. I can travel 220-230 miles before having to refill. I fill up when the low tank light comes on. They say they are looking into the situation. This is a dangerous situation as on the open road a gas station may not be available leaving a driver stranded in unsafe areas. I brought this to their attention within several weeks of purchase which was 7/30/03 and a number of times since. This is hazardous. Do any new cars offer an automatic release of the rear door child lock device. This means that the child lock will automatically un-set upon impact of an accident so people in the back seat can quickly get out. I had an incident in a mercury sable where the back seat passenger was nearly burned because they could not get out of the back seat (get the rear door open). This kind of problem is described on a website www.carsafetyusa.com in detail. Does any car have this feature for automatic child lock release after an accident ?i would like for my next purchase to have this feature.

While driving at 65 mph, the hood released without cause due to latch failure.the latch was replaced.*scc

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable.the contact stopped into a service station and turned off the vehicle.he restarted the vehicle and attempted to shift into gear; however, it would not shift until approximately 20 minutes later.the contact drove home and noticed that the rear brake lights were not illuminating.through online research, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 04v106000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch); however, his vin was not included in the recall.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure and current mileages were 101,000.

Wife was driving vehicle on highway.the car engine kept running but the transmission died without any warning symptoms - no clunking, no grinding gears, no loss of fluids,... It just completely failed while in motion.thank god she was able to coast towards the shoulder and avoid being hit.the car was repaired with a used transmission.the same transmission was recalled in another ford vehicle.there are thousands of complaints online about this particular transmission in sables and taurus vehiclesit is a serious problem as the instantaneous complete transmission failure can easily occur in dangerous traffic situations.it's not clear as to why there is no recall nor warning.an investigation on the internet will clearly reveal thousands of failures and data is available at transmission and garage shops.do something.

I left home for work.all parts of vehicle working fine.i put my blinkers on to make a left turn, which i executed.half-way down the street, the car began to lose power, but was still running.i tried shifting to another gear - nothing.there was no warning, no sound, just nothing.i attempted to get the car to the side of the one way street with parking on both sides.i could not move the car.thankfully this did not occur on an interstate, or i would have been killed.had to call aaa, get the vehicle towed.my garage said it was catastrophic torque converter loss.he has done 5 2003 vehicles just this year.my husband just had major heart surgery; is not working, and now i have to come up with over $2,000 to get a rebuilt transmission.ford/mercury has known about these catastrophic failures for years now -- and nothing is done.does it take someone being killed before there is action?this is not fair theamerican consumers who try to buy american products and get screwed in the end!my next car...just may be from another country.

Idriving under normal conditions on a city streetin 2003 merc sable with 33k miles. While in motion, the transmission fails with no forward or reverse working or any other mechanical warnings.( no transmission codes on obdii. I was immediately able to coastinto a drugstore parking lot. Car towed to local ford dealer. Dealer informed that the torque converter splines have failed and torque converter needs to replaced for $ 1726.00.dealer repaired vehicle, replaced with ford re-manuafactured torque converter. Searched intern net and found samenumerous complaints of ford torque converters spline failures. Based on the type and number of complaints this appears to warrant an audit of this safety problem. There are other reportedcomplaints that vehicles were travelingon highways and suffered transmission failures while in motion without any warnings.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated that the gear shifter was stuck and could not move out of the park position. In addition, the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact mentioned that the brake wiring had to be pushed down to override the failure. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake light switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v106000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was not notified. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

I started my car to take it for an oil change.with the engine warmed up i shifted into gear to go. Without any warning symptoms (no clunking, no grinding gears, no loss of fluids,...) the transmission decided to completely fail.the car would not go forward nor backwards as no gears were working. As this is now the third complete failure of the transmission on this car, i am trying to decide if i should try to get it repaired again.in all my years of driving, this is the only car that i have owned that has had transmission problems.there are known design flaws - the torque converter splines are not beefy enough and the vent fitting with a check valve on the trans housing malfunctions closed and causes the trans fluid to shoot back out of the dipstick tube, and there are other issues with this transmission as well... The same ford/mercury transmission model was recalled in another ford vehicle. I repeat, the same failure prone part in another vehicle was recalled.there are thousands of complaints online about this particular transmission in sables and taurus vehicles it is a serious problem as the instantaneous complete transmission failure can easily occur in dangerous traffic situations. It previously failed with my car in motion on a highway!it's not clear as to why there is no recall nor warning. An investigation on the internet will clearly reveal thousands of failures and data is available at transmission and garage shops. Do something please.

My wife was accelerating at about 10 mph when the vehicle completely went out of gear.the engine was running but the car failed to move quickly coming to a dead stop.it turns out it is the torque converter.i understand that mercury sables have this problem.it is the same transmission as is in a ford windstar that did have a recall to replace these defective transmissions.if this had occurred on the interstate during rush hour in our area she could have been hurt and in an accident.why no recall??

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated that the transmission failed. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration. The vehicle was towed to dom's getty station (heightstown, nj 08520, phone (609) 448-4146) for diagnostic testing, which located the failure at the transmission input shaft and torque converter. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 57,000.

I was driving the car. Came to a stop and pressed the gas pedal to accelerate. The car started out ok and the mph reached 15mph and then there was nothing. It was like the car was in neutral. I had to coast off the side of the road. Had t have the car towed home. Spoke with several ford dealerships service mechanics and everyone of them said that they were almost 100% that it was the torque converter (inside the transmission). And could also be the whole transmission. The car wont go into gear. You can move the gearshift flawlessly thru the gears and nothing the car wont move. I was also told by every ford mechanic that this is a huge problem with that year of car and that transmission (ax4n). Then to find out that ford knows of the problem and no recall! then i find out today that ford issued a recall on the ford windstar for the transmissions (which are the same transmissions that are in the sable and in the ford taurus, the model # tranny ax4n). If ford can issue a recall on the windstar for the same problem as the sable and taurus why cant they issue a recall on all of them? the cost to fix my sable is anywhere from $1300 to $1800 and that's if its only the torque converter and not the whole tranny which would cost in the $3500 to $4500 range. And both quotes are coming from ford mechanics who have done numerous sables etc with this same problem. I am a single mother and definitely do not have the money to have my car fixed!!!! apparently this is a huge problem and i feel along with so many others that ford should do a recall and fix it for free!!!! especially when they recall the windstar for the same tranny and same problem! this is an ongoing problem and ford should address it and take care of it.because as of right now i sit without a car. I have had other ford cars and never a problem that's the only reason i purchased this one.if i would only knew.....

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact parked on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable.the contact stated that the vehicle began to loose power while attempting to enter the highway.the contact was able to exit the highway without incident and while stopped at a traffic light, the rpms began to increase tremendously.the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 101,000.

After refueling at busy gas station, started the car and the car would not go forward or backwards as no gears were working.the car engine was working fine but the transmission died without any warning symptoms - no clunking, no grinding gears, no loss of fluids,... It just completely failed. The car was repaired with a used transmission. The same ford/mercury transmission model was recalled in another ford vehicle. In 2014,. My power train (transmission) stopped propelling my car.several years earlier, my friend who owned a mercury sable (the same type car as i am writing to you about),had the same transmission failure while on an interstate highway. He had approximately the same mileage on his car that i had when our transmissions failed. This type of failure is dangerous yet the ford motor co. Advised me there had not been a recall. Please advise.

Third time here we go!!!the torque converter has been replaced twice on this mercury sable piece of junk!please see nhtsa report id # 10333941this was the first time the torque converter failed.i had it repaired at a ford / mercury dealership.received a 12/12 warranty (12k miles or 12 months)it failed again at eleven months and 12100 miles100 miles over the warranty so they told me tough luck buddy..i had it repaired again same dealership. I did not even bother to file a report i figured its a waste of time any how.and now here we go again 3rd time.that ford can manufacture and sell junk and get away with it is criminal.i guess buyer beware don't by ford and especially do not buy ford front wheel drive.when it comes to ford...i would never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetencewhen it comes to class action lawsuits ...does it matter what the judge drives ?have you been drivenby ford lately.

While driving at 40 mph transmission suddenly failed, no ability to move car out of traffic. Driver and passengers almost were rear ended by following traffic. Unable to move car off of roadway. Engine ran but car would not move.

I was driving north on us31 just north of muskegon, michigan.i was going 70 mph when with no warning the car (2003 mercury sable) lost drive train power and was suddenly only coasting.i had to pull of onto the shoulder of the highway in heavy traffic.also i had my three adult autistic children with me,and they all got extremely nervous sitting at the side of the highway as the passing cars were making our vehicle move from the air currents.i was very concerned one of them might try and jump from the car from panic.as for the car itself,i thought maybe the serpentine belt has broke but when i checked it was okay.i restarted the car and put the transmission in gear and nothing...no forward or reverse,no movement at all.so i called my father who was fortunatelythere within half an hour (or with my kids it could have been a really bad situation) and he rescued us and i had a wrecker tow the car home.i called several transmission shops who all told me it is a very common transmission problem with this vehicle as well as the ford taurus.they pretty much all told me it should be rebuilt as the new parts are better than the original because the new parts are replacing parts ford knows they have a problem with.even a mechanic at the ford dealership told me these vehicles have tranny troubles.my car has 157,000 miles so i guess i should feel lucky after reading internet posts of many of these cars doing to same thing with under 50,000 miles.i think it is a problem that should be recalled before someone gets killed with the tranny just quitting like that if someone hasn't already.cant imagine being on a road with no shoulder in extreme heavy traffic and i sure don't have the $1200 to $3200 to get it repaired..ford should be required to fix this obvious bad transmission.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated that he attempted to accelerate from a complete stop however, the vehicle would not respond. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was advised that the torque converter failed and deposited metal shavings into the transmission. The vehicle was repaired by rebuilding the transmission. The torque converter was also replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were approximately 70,000.

I was driving along, and with no warning, no noise no squeak transmission failure at 34,000 miles, also master cylinder failure. Last month.

I have a 2003 sable upon driving on the interstate, my car just stopped going forward. I had to have it towed to a garage and have it diagnosed. Come to find out the transmission failed and will cost me over $2700 to replace it. I have contacted every transmission repair shop in a 75 mile radius and they all give me the same price. They have also told me that every sable they have run across around that year of production has had the pump in the transmission has failed. There is only 72,000 on this car and i do not have the money to replace the transmission. This is an issue that should be taken care of by the manufacturer.

Dt: contact stated the instrument panel would light up and the radio would go out, and thevehicle would shut off. She put the vehicle in park and was able to restart it.she contacted the mechanic, whoreplaced the two sensors on the vehicle. The mechanic stated the vehicle thinks it is being stolen. The vehicle is still having the same problem.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)please see your report pe09033.my mercury sable uses the same transmission.and this week end me and my family almost got killed when on i-75 in the middle of a construction zone with concrete barriers on both sides my transmission died with no warning.this car has only 40000 miles on it and i changed the fluid as recommended at 30000 miles.the mechanic said that this was a catastrophic transmission failure and never should have happened at 40000 miles! the mechanic said to me you had no warning did you! i agreed. He said the torque converter had probably failed! the he told me it would cost about $2200 for parts and about $1100 for labor a grand total of $3300.i am an engineer so i know a little about engines and mechanical applications.this should never have happened.i believe after some research that these transmissions have a significant design fault in them partly from torque converter failure and partly from over heating because of poor circulation and heat dissipation design.i would like to register an official complaint with the nhtsa about the above and join or start a campaign for a recall about the above stated problem.i hope that at some point i will have some recourse with ford.so with some anticipation i respectfully request some help or a response with to my request.[xxx]

Went to take my daughter to school one morning, noticed that the car took extra long to engage into reverse.drove my daughter to school, went to work and decided that i better check the transmission fluid.upon removing the dip stick, the transmission fluid came boiling out of the dip stick hole.i immediately called a tow truck and had it taken to aamco transmission located at 1705 w. Kennedy blvd., tampa, fl 33606, 813-251-1049.upon their inspection of the transmission, they had determined that the torque converter had gone bad which in turn caused the pump to go bad.so therefore, i had to have a complete overhaul of the transmission which has now cost me $2223.04 plus $88.11 for car rental.total amount was $2311.15.i am going to make a formal demand for payment from mercury as this should not have happened on a car that only has 37000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable.the contact experienced issues with shifting the gear shift into the appropriate gears.he could not move the gear shift at all, even when the brake pedal was depressed.he also noticed that the brake lights were inoperable when the brake pedal was depressed.the gear shift would not budge from the park position.the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 04v106000.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current and failure mileages were less than 157,000.

I was heading to church. I turned on to another road when my car stopped going. It sounded fine but when i tried to push the gas to go, the car would not go. I've only had the car about 3 to 4 yrs, and have only put about 50,000 miles on the car. I had the car towed to eckenrod ford in cullman, al. With a lot of persistence and a bulldog attitude, they are currently fixing my car. But, it is costing me money i don't have since i just had a baby. Who ,by the way, was with me when the car failed to drive properly (on a cold snowy sat. Morning). They know they have this problem, i don't know why they don't take care of it all together. I could have been in the middle of a busy highway like the last car i had when it did the same thing. Guess what, it was a 2000 ford taurus with the same service bulletin as this car and had to be fixed but i didn't pay for it. Instead they managed to get me in the car i currently have with the same problem. They need to fix their cars and quiet giving the consumer a hard time about it. How many have to tear up before they do anything about it?????????

Engine noisy.

Contact states:while driving with passengers, child safety seat with passenger in tow pulled the seatbelt across herself.this became entangled around the passengers neck causing great discomfort.concerned occupents try to free and disengage seat belt attachment with every effort the seat belt becomes tighter and slack is disappearing choking the child. Fortunately the child was freed with the help ofa pocket knife, child had to be cut out of the restraint. Child substained deep tissue bruisingas diagnosed by doctor.the dealer repaired the seat belt.

2003 mercury sable wagon -- the seat belts in the middle seat of the car no longer retract.they hang loosely and would certainly be a grave danger to any passenger should the car experience a crash or rollover.they have been repaired by the dealer already, but now the dealer recommends replacement of the entire retraction mechanism. Seems to be a very common and very dangerous problem in mercury sables and taurus wagons from what i've read.hey ford, hope you give a [xxx] about your products and customers enough to do something about this! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

No accident, but the seat belt on the driver's side has started "latching" only on sporadic occasions. It doesn't latch more times than it does latch. The are times when you have successfully latched the seatbelt, it will come unlatch end while the car is moving. This has now been occurring for about a month.

Seat belt retractor has not worked for at least 18 months- part on order for at least this time.

My car is trying to kill me! i was driving at approximately 40 mph, when i started to brake for a stop before turning . The car slowed down, as i held my foot on the brake, butsuddenly the car started to accelerate. I already had my foot on the brake, and the brake held, but i had to take the car out of gear, and shut the engine off. The engine was racing at a speed i would estimate at 80 mph.it was a frightening and dangerous experience. I checked to see if a floor mat was pressing on the gas pedal. It was not. The same incident happened on two more occasions. My mechanic has not found the problem. I no longer drive the car.

I own a 2003 mercury sable,i replaced the brakes , and an assortment of problems followed. First they began locking , then the car would not stop at all. I replaced pads.rotors.tires ,bleed the breaks all in an effort to find the problem. I could not, so the car has been sitting about a year. Then i received the recall on the breaks , now everything makes sense.

Dealer indicated that parts won't be available for 4 to 6 weeks. Lincoln mercury, 24400 center ridge, westlake oh, 440-835-3700.

While driving in high speeds consumer heard a loud clanking noise coming from the front.consumer applied the brakes, and the vehicle failed to stop completely.vehicle was taken to the dealer forinspection.there was a gas smell inside of the vehicle, a steering vibration and the oil pan gasket was replaced.

I was driving my car and while i was braking for a stop light i couldn't stop. Something was giving my car gas as i was trying to stop. Ever since then when i drive it my rpm's are high and makes a noise. I called the shop and had my idle air control valve replaced because that's what the automotive place said was wrong. Since then it's been in 3 other times and had the part replaced just in case it was a faulty part. Now the mechanics are baffled as am i. I did research and noticed this was a common complaint on these vehicles. I just took it in again today december 6,2012 and we can't figure out the problem. It's getting worse to where i can't really drive it because when i go to brake it won't stop. I can be at a complete stop and not touch the gas and my car will get up to 45mph without me even touching the gas pedal.

Problems with braking system on 2003 mercury sable station wagon.*mr(nar)

Customer is asking for info about a customer complaint**ccthe consumer has a similar situation and would like to find out more information.

Consumer was concerned thatbrake pedal went to the floor intermittently when applied. Vehicle was to dealer on several occasions, and dealer was unable to locate the problem. Afterwards vehicle was involved in a crash because the brake pedal went to the floor while coming onto oncoming traffic. No injuries were reported. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, whoinformed the consumer that the problem was the master cylinder.

When stopping on an incline for a light or sign with foot on brakes vehicle rolled backwards when foot was taken off the brakes to accelerate.would either depress the brakes again or accelerator pedal to keep vehicle from hitting another vehicle behind. Had takenvehicle to dealerships but mechanic did not notice or find anything wrong.this problemhappened at least 6 times before.

Abs activated after going over several "bumps" in a series and brakes applied lightly.lightly being as when slowing down in traffic for a traffic light and stopping.abs light did not come on.however, abs light has subsequently come on.abs light does not necessarily come on again the next time the vehicle is started.also the brakes can appear to be fine until the next series of "bumps" is encountered when driving.

There is a problem with the distance between the brake and accelerator pedals, causingdriver to unintentionally press the accelerator pedal when trying to brake.

The accelerator and brake pedal were too close together and caused the consumer to inadvertently depress the gas pedal.*nlm*scc

Water and rain leak into blower housing and then onto passenger floor. In heavy rain the blower can be heard agitating the water. There are many reports that this will eventually disable the blower motor and therefore the vehicle will have no defroster, creating a potential hazard.

Dt*: the contact stated water leaked into the front right side of the ventilation system, onto the floor, as the vehicle was driven at 45 mph, while it was raining.the service dealer has been made aware of the problem, but the manufacturer was not notified.

Water leak in the front passenger cowl and has caused my blower motor to short and am no longer able to use it.

Water leaked into car interior foot area and shorted out ac/heater blower motor.

I own a 2003 mercury sable, in 2007, i noticed the paint on the passenger rear wheel-well was starting to bubble rust, my husband and i made numerous complaints to the dealership, at the time, they were undergoing a buyout and we had adifficult time getting any answers from anyone, once the buyout happened, we were then told all the computer files were being updated, they did not have any record of the issues we reported to the previous owners, so we started over...in july of 2008, finally got the manufacturer to share in the expense of the repairs as this had now passed the warranty timeframe, however, when the original problem was reported, we were quoted a repair estimate of $250.00, by the time we received approval from ford to go ahead with the repairs and they stated the repair estimate had increased to $ 550.00 because the rust area had worsen.it is now 8 months later, and the bubbling and rust is starting to appear again. I have read several articles aboutford having issues with the paint used on their vehicles during the 200 - 2005 period..apparently - not too many complaints have been filed towarrant a recall, this is the basis for my compliant now.my car is taken care of, garaged, etc.... I have never had a rusting problem with an vehicle i have owned, and this does not seem fair that this car should be rusting, and for a second time within 8 months after the repairs.

No events leading up to incident. Whenever it rains, water leaks onto the front passenger side floorboard. Water also leaks onto blower motor and resistor causing failure. Caused by a manufacturer design flaw in a plastic cowling in engine compartment.

Ford taurus and the mercury sable's have a problem with water leaking intothe heater core box which eventually causes the heater motor and stop working.i understand from reading post on the internet that is apparently a design flaw.my car had 44,000 miles at the point where the motor quit working.the bill to repair the car was $471.28.the warranty had obviously expired but i felt like ford motor co should re-imburse the cost of the repair since it is a very common problem.they declined to help with the cost of the repair.

Water collected in the heater blower motor causing it need repalcement.i have heard this is a design flaw.

Mercury sable wagon 2003 leaks into passenger cabin when it rains. This is a problem numerous other sable and taurus owners have had. Cabin floods when it rains.

Passenger floor rusted out completely in two spots on the front right of floor. Two major holes. The remainder of the floor is showing signs that it too is deteriorating. This is a safety concern as the structural integrity of the floor has been compromised and can allow someone to fall through should excess weight be placed in any of these weak places and or holes.

The floor boards on my vehicle are rusted through.

Car was completely stopped.when engaged into reverse, car made loud noise, tires squealed, engine raced and crashed into parked car behind it at high rate of speed.parked vehicle that was struck then struck car next to it since impact was so great.car was uncontrollable, could not be stopped via brakes.

Floorboards rusted through, i was getting splashed while driving through an unavoidable puddle in the road. Looks to be four separate spots, all four seating areas affected.

The vehicles stock jacking locations are no longer considered as safe.they have deteriorated due to corrosion and rusting away.should someone decide to trust any one of the affected jacking locations, the structural integrity of the frame may crumple and break causing the vehicle to drop onto anyone performing work underneath, which may result in severe injury, or even death.

1. The hood closes apparently fine, it does not open if i try to, however keeps opening every 20 minutes after driving. I could not find the cause.2. Very strong smell of gas keeps ocurring, no signs or drops or viisual leak puddle.

*sc

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, a loud noise emitted outside of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the front driver's side tire exploded due to the fractured coil spring. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that both front coil springs, the driver side tire, and sway bar needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph, a loud noise emitted outside of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the rear passenger side tire exploded due to a fractured coil spring. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that both front clock springs, the coil springs, and the stabilizer spring bar needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that the failure occurred on the front driver's side several months later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure and current mileage were 91,000.

Originally, 2 days prior, car felt like i was dragging something underneath.got out and looked around car, didn't see anything.left car for 2 days, then started to head to work.was going only about 20mph when smoke poured out from under my car.a moment later my front passenger side tire blew.had a friend come to help me change to the spare.he drove the car about 2 minutes back to my house and as soon as he parked it, he took the spare off because we heard a weird popping noise when he was jacking the car back up.looked and the coil spring on the passenger side had broken and rubbed so violently against the tire that it had torn a 10-14" long hole in the tire and had burnt a ring around the inside of the tire.thankfully i had 2 friends to replace the whole unit.i also was able to take my goodyear tire back to sam's and they prorated my tire (had less than 6,000 miles on them!!) and replaced it.time will tell if the other one will go out but nhtsa needs to look at this problem.if i had been going faster, i most certainly would have been in a very bad accident. I am very thankful i had friends who were able to change the whole coil spring for me.but if this were to happen while traveling at a high rate of speed, the end result could be catastrophic.

2003 mercury sable.consumer writes in regards to vehicle front spring broke and slashed tire which caused an immediate flat tire.

Backing up less than 5 mph--all at once heard a pop, the car stopped moving and whooshing air.got out of car-- driver side front tire was flat.upon further investigation, the spring had broken and punctured the tire.luckily, it happened at home-- not when my student driver was driving at 55 mph or more.over 2,400 cases reported as of june 30, 2011-- yet, no one has died or been seriously injured yet-- so no recall.if i had been on the road-- it would have been serious.the spring wedged into the tire and stopped the movement of the car-- no way would i have been able to steer and get the car off the road.i hope they reopen this investigation.

The left front spring failed and punctured the tire as the car was being backed out of a garage. According to nhtsa campaign id #04v332000, a protective device was to be installed to prevent the tire from being punctured because of spring fracture and the warranty was extended on the spring.the manufacturer refuses to fix my vehicle because it was manufactured after the latest date applied to the recall as noted above.since, the failure is the same as explained in the recall description; i claim the manufacturer is obligated to cover the repairs based on past history.plus, the "fix" was not installed on my vehicle at the time of manufacture therefore exposing the tire to the catastrophic failure of being punctured by the broken spring.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 10 mph, the passenger side front coil spring failed and punctured the tire, causing a blow out. The vehicle was taken to a private dealer where it was determined that the coil spring had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that the failure occurred on the front driver's side several months later. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000. The current mileage was 156,000. The vin was not available.

Front coil spring failed while vehicle was parked in the driveway, coil spring broke in two places and punctured the front tire (spring went through the tire sidewall).if this happened while vehicle was in motion, the car would have steeredsharply to the right and gone off the road. Our 2000 sable had a recall for this problem but the 2003 sable did not.searching the web, spring failure and puncture of a front tire has occurred numerous times.

I was backing out of a driveway and i heard a loud wooshing noise.i got out to investigate and saw my front driver's side tire was flat.i tried to remove it but couldn't get a jack under the vehicle because it was so low to the ground.i finally managed to jack up the car and had a lot of trouble removing the tire.upon further investigation i realized that the spring had broken and lodged about 3 inches into my tire.i had to have the car towed to a service station and the total cost of repair was $600.51 in addition to the cost for towing and two new tires.i had just driven 40 miles on the express way at 70 mph and i could have been killed had this happened en route.

On january 17 while backing out of my garage, my 2003 mercury sable was making a horrendous noise.upon investigating, i discovered what i thought was a flat tire.my husband removed the tire to take it for repair and discovered a major problem.the inside of the tire looked like it was opened with a can opener. We bought a new tire, put it on the car but it was still making that awful noise.the tire was rubbing the wheel well.at that time, we knew that there was a bigger problem.after removing the tire again, my husband discovered that the right front coil spring was broken!it happened while sitting in the garage.i called ford motor company after researching this online.this is a big problem with the ford taurus as well as the mercury sable.to my dismay, they will do nothing about it.i am only glad that this did not happen while traveling at a high rate of speed.my only hope is that there will be some recall on this problem so that other car owners do not have to go through all of this inconvenience.

2003 sable wagon was driven home and parked in driveway. When we went to move it again a horrible grinding sound was coming from the front end, sounded like something scraping on the driveway or caught in wheel well. Car was subsequently parked. When it was light and upon further investigation, a piece of the front end coil spring was found lying under the car, approximately 1 foot long that is sheared off from the rest of the spring. No visible rust on the part, just apparently a defective part that broke. Now the car has to be towed to fix the problem. However the rest of the spring is embedded in the tire, wedged between it and the wheel well. It is impossible to move the car even to allow for a tow truck to get under it. The tires were also just purchased approximately one month ago and this certainly has ruined at least one of them. *ln

-driver side suspension coil spring broke.fortunately this was when car was sitting still. Coil punctured tire and broke the strut & some kind of a linkage. There was no warning sign of this problem.-replaced parts including passenger side partsknowing this was a material fatigue failure & would eventfully occur on other side too.-this part is the same as on 2000 & 2001 sable that are now covered under an extended warranty.-this is a safety issue & should be a recall item !

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. While driving in reverse 1 mph, the contact heard a loud noise from the front passenger side tire. The contact then noticed that the coil spring punctured the tire causing it to burst. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who replaced the coil spring. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

Putting car into reverse, i felt the air go ut of the passenger front tire. Upon further investigation it was the coil spring that broke and punctured the tire.

My wife asked me to check the strange noise in her car when she started to back out of our driveway on the morning of december 8, 2008. I removed the right front wheel expecting to see worn out brake pads. Instead, the wheel started to move toward me when i began removing the lug nuts. The coil spring was broken into two parts. Fortunately, it broke overnight and doesn't appear to have damaged the tire. Time will tell whether or not it weakened the inner sidewall of the right front tire. Failure analysis of the 28 cm length of spring broken off from the lower end of the spring isas follows: the broken cross-section of the spring has a dark rust section, about 15 mm circumferentially and 2 mm radial from the exterior surface. The exterior surface of the spring is rusted where there is no longer any protective black coating near the defective cross section.this surface area is about 25 mm circumferentially and 15 mm long from the fractured cross section. There are about 4 radial fracture lines emanating from the bottom side of the spring starting at the 15 mm x 2mm rusted area. There appears to be pinpoint rust areas throughout about 70 per cent of the remaining cross section, by my naked eye. I will be replacing the coil spring today or tomorrow, either myself or at a garage. This appears to be the same type of failure as recall number 04n-332. This defect is one of the reasons why i am laid off. I have been a friction material engineer for over 25 years. No wonder americans have stopped buying american automobiles. This mercury vehicle has been much better than my dodge vehicles up until now.

My 2003 sable suffered a front left coil spring fracture that destroyed the front left tire and caused me to veer into a fence post while driving in a parking lot.the coil spring that sliced into the tire was pinpoint sharp, as was the smaller portion of the spring that fell off the car.the front left tire was destroyed, the strut an spring assembly needed to be replaced after the car was towed to a repair facility.the car was not drivable.the fence post damaged the left door of the car.if this failure had happened at highway speeds, the tire would have been shredded to pieces and the car would be sent off the highway with catastrophic results.i am afraid to drive the car at highway speeds.the car was inspected by a ford dealer 4 days after the front spring failure and found to have corrosion on the rear springs with the paint or enamel on the spring compromised causing rusting on the springs an possibly causing a future failure of the springs.

Day 1 - failure or left front coil spring - speed approx. 30mph spring just popped with a loud jarring bang. Had vehicle towed to repair facility- repaired and replaced left front spring assembly.next morning - failure - left rear coil spring. Resulting in tire blow out speed 5 mph. Currently back at repair facility.ford/mercury are known to have spring problems but evidently unless someone dies nothing will be done about it. Contacted ford about the problem the said no recall nothing we can do. Just look at the complaints - obviously this is not a freak occurrence.

Ford springs. On saturday, january 5, 2010, the front drivers side coil spring on my 2003 mercury sable gs snapped and punctured my tire. (car has 70k miles). There is corrosion on the coil but only were it failed. I have saved the piece of coil that was in my tire. My brother is a mechanic and told me that there may be a recall on the spring. He did the work on the car because i needed to be at work on monday morning but told me to check it out. I found many complaints on the consumer affairs website but none for my model year. I contacted ford and registered a complaint (#0289562315). The gentleman told me that my car wasn't included in the recall and that my car wasn't covered under warranty. He told me that i would be responsible for the cost of the repairs. I am very worried about the rear springs too. I frequently drive with children in my car. At the very least, i expected them to offer to inspect the rear springs but they offered nothing. Ford should pay for repairs when they are aware that a part is failing. I needed to replace the 2 front struts, buy 2 new tires (mine were discontinued) and pay for a front-end alignment.

I recently had a tire blowout on my vehicle.upon removing the tire it was discovered thattheright front springsnapped, which had ruptured the tire.i was able to get thecar to a local shop to replace the spring and tire at my expense, with a used spring to keep the cost down.i contacted ford ,and ford advised they would not cover any expenses related to this.thecarwas a 2003 mercury sable with low miles on it. Also , contacted my dealer , and the dealer agreed that this type of damage should not have occurred , yet could not rectify theproblemsince ford has not recalled itfor springs. I believe there was a fault in the springs ,andwas fearful this may happen to the remaining springs on thiscar.ford's advice to me was to have the remaining springs examined, at my own expense, as they reminded me that therewasno recall for faulty springs. I have retained the damaged spring as iwasconvinced there wasan issue thatwas not being addressed. In my opinion, it was a matter of safety. A car's springs should not break, especially when it wa sa relatively new vehicle.this has been the second costly repair i have made to this vehicle, i previously had to replace the right front sway bar . Also, should not have broken and again not a covered expense.

Mercury sable 2003 front coil spring broke. Will have repaired at mercury dealer and will keep failed part. Complaint or inquiry received via email, internet by the wisconsin department of agriculture, trade and consumer protection *tgw2003 mercury sable. The front coil springs failed.

My wife was backing out of our driveway when there was a popping noise and then a blowout on the left front tire.i was standing next to the mv at the time. The coil spring broke/shattered and a piece of it went thru the side wall of the tire putting a 6-8" gash in the tire. We have the pieces of the spring. Ford refused to reimburse us for the repair which was made at a ford dealer(northampton ford ). The vehicle had 50577 miles. In researching this on the internet i find that since 1999 they have had recalls and repair programs for this problem on various models but apparently they do not acknowledge it in the 2003 sable. Fortunatley she was not driving down the highway when this happened. I found two sites on the internet that had many reports/complaints of this in various ford vehicles. The following week my 82 yoa mother who drives a 2003 ford focus thought she had a soft tire, went to her local dealership and was told both front coil springs were broken. These repairswere covered and reimbursed by ford. I spoke with several mechanics and was advised that this is a common problem in ford vehicles.i was advised by a mechanic that the aftermarket manufacturers do not make replacement struts for the 2003 sable. All of this indicates to me that ford has a problem with the design and or manufacture of their coil springs which covers several years of vehicles. Had my wife been on the highway she probably would likelyhave lost control and had a very serious accident. Finding a broken coil spring after an accident like that you would probably not be able to prove that it (the broken spring which caused the blowout) was not caused by the accident. I am not aware of any other manufacturer having similar problems.i believe that the safety of the public is in jeopardy. Our vehicle is used exclusively by my wifea school administrator-no teen agers driving it who would be emulating the dukes of hazhard.

I was driving about 35 mph and let up on the gas when i realized i was in a 30 mph zone.i drove about five more blocks without touching the throttle and the car never slowed until i applied the brakes due to coming to a stoplight.this was on level ground.since then the car will not slow down without using the brakes.i have driven over 5 miles at one time at 60 mph without the car slowing to less than 58 mph.when i take it out of gear to help me slow down the engine revs up and then very slowly idles down.occasionally the engine will slow and then die when sitting at stop lights.my brakes were worked on 3 months ago but are feeling like they need to be repaired due to shaking when i have to brake hard to stop the car.

When i accelerated my vehicle the throttle stuck in the open position. My car accelerated to over 40mph in a residential zone. I put the car in neutral and the engine revved up to the cutout rpm limit. I immediately shut the vehicle off. When i opened the hood to inspect the problem i saw that the plastic collar holding the cable in place broke off, causing the entire cable to move freely. One piece of the cable was stuck outside of the collar causing the throttle to engage without the accelerator pedal being pushed.

The car has a throttle over run problem. When i lift my foot off the gas and the apply brakes, it feels as if the engine is not returning to idle completely. The brakes are in good condition. I have had numerous close calls with rearend collisions. The dealer never found a problem.

I was driving my car on a city street and the car started accelerating on its own and i tried to brake but my brakes would not work. I had to put both feet on the break to slam hard enough to try to get it to slow down even a little. I found out that the throttle cable got stuck and could not go back in causing the car to keep accelerating.

The contact owns a 2003 mercury sable. While driving various speeds, the vehicle began to accelerate independently without warning. The vehicle was able to stop with the brake pedal being depressed. I was driving east on i-70 from kansas city mo.cruise was set at 78.4 lanes.was in left passing lane and had to slow down quickly because of vehicle in front was doing about 50mph.the right was clear and i started moving to the right to pass. The car instantly accelerated as i started to turn right. The acceleration actually pull the car forward so fast the rear end slid to the left. Car moved a crossed the right 3 lanes of traffic at about a 60 deg angle.i managed to turn the car into the skid to avoid the guard rails and started back across the lanes with complete loss of control of the car as it did a complete 360.as i was returned to facing east again i pulled off into the median as i was again in the far left lane now in front of the vehicle i had started to pass.having been in many emergency situation in my 67 years.i just road out the turn.i was no fun watching the vehicle i was trying to pass approach me while i was completing the 360.with so many vehicles surrounding the gap i was in, i am still amazed no one was killed, and no collision of any sort occurred.took to the dealer and it was suggested the pcv valve was plugged.replaced.around feb 2 2016 i was driving i 95 to florida.i noticed the cruise dropping out twice without braking and once accelerating without resetting.i understood now that the i-70 incident was actually the cruise control.i will have it disconnected so that it can not be used again.how i survived is beyond belief.i am extremely glad no one was with me.

The speed control cable collar broke, leaving the throttle stuck open at about 27%.this caused the vehicle to accelerate on it's own, and required extra effort to stop the vehicle.i have a receipt for the repair made by pepboys.

While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic can not duplicate the problem at this time.please provide further details.

I was driving when i realized that my car was going much faster than it should be.i was going up a hill so i moved both of my feet away from the pedals and realized that it was still gaining speed.i pressed hard on the brakes and managed to bring it mostly to a stop about 80 feet from an intersection and another car.i put it into park, but still had to hold the brake down hard in order to keep the car from rolling forward.when the light changed, i put the car in drive and it "peeled out" and was almost impossible to control. I hit the brakes hard, turned at the intersection then into a vacant parking lot.i put it in park immediately and shut it off.i tried to restart the car and the engine immediately went to 5000 rpm, so i shut it off again and had it towed to my local dealership.the car was definitely accelerating without any input on my part.the brakes were able to slow it down, but only with full pressure and it took much further than it should have to come to a stop.i was driving a 2003 mercury sable.

So sorry to bother you.i have a mercury sable 03 which has been accelerating by itself because the throttle cable gets stuck.i saw an article that said my year taurus and sable have this problem as well as saw that all those in the junk yard have the exact same problem.in the article it said ford agreed to fix those to stop further investigation.how would i go about getting this fixed? please and thank you.my vehicle started going 79 and wouldn't stop.even in neutral it went 4000 rpm until the throttle cable was unjammed.and continues to do so

I have a 2003 mercury sable with 19k miles on it. We had heavy rains tuesday evening through wednesday morning, followed by sub freezing temperatures throughout wednesday into thursday. Thursday morning, (12-10-09) the blower motor for the heating/ac system would only work on it's highest setting, and continues to do so. A few times throughout the last couple of weeks, my wife and i thought we heard water rushing around somewhere in the vicinity of the passenger side area.i read over 150 complaints on topix.com for the very same problem with several different model years of both sables and taurus'. It was recommended by several folks that people with the same issues should file a complaint here. It seems that the problem with the blower motor/resistor assembly is caused by water entering the blower housing itself. I have read that ford is well aware of the problem, as they have issued a service bulletin for it.my concern is that since winter is upon us, a possible unsafe condition could arise should the blower motor quit working completely, thus preventing the windows from defrosting.additionally, i feel strongly that this problem should be repaired at no cost to me by ford.

On a 2003 mercury sable the blower motor quit working. For several months prior tothe failure, water could be heard sloshing around under the dashboard and the carpeting became wet.the fan motor and resistor had to be replaced because of water damage.the mechanic who repaired it told me that this is a common problem and that ford is aware of it.the fan motor literally sits in a puddle of water.fortunately there was no sparking which could have led to a fire.it cost over $300 to repair.ford motor co. Is aware of this design defect and should pay for the repairs.

I recently purchased a 2003 mercury sable ls and prior to leaving the dealership in philadelphia i noticed the front windshield did not have the factory tint glass which was stated on the window sticker and windshield as having tinted glass. I returned to the dealership and spoke with the sales person, sales manager & service manager and after comparing other sables of 2003 in the lot, all stated in the front windshield as having the tint but some did not appear as having the darker band running across the top of the front windshield. No one could address this as to why some did or did not other than they were different supply vendors ford used that day. It appears that whomever ford supplier are at this point has a process error in the manufacturing application of the tint process since ford dealership management could not answer or willing to find out the answers to the problem.*nlm

I own a 2003 mercury sable platinum edition.i have experienced four flat tires in the last year with this vehicle (2/2005 to 2/2006).the first three i had repaired at a local tire store, as i was not aware that the problem was with the vehicle's aluminum wheels.in each case the wheels corroded around the sealing bead, or the valve stem causing an air leak.the corrosion occurs on the interior of the wheel, hidden from sight.the only clue is when the tires begin to lose pressure.the first flat tire occurred in february of 2005.the second and third happened in march and april of 2005 respectively.finally the three wheels that had been repaired and the fourth began leaking, and inseptember 2005 i had all four of the wheels repaired at a local ford dealer.in december of 2005 i began to experience tire inflation problems again, but the dealer refused to admit that there was a problem.currently i am forced to check my tire pressure daily, and fill the tires each two to three days.the last flat tire occurred on february 23, 2006, but i was able to get the tire filled before it totally deflated.please note this vehicle (platinum edition) comes equipped with special wheels not available on the normal ls edition.i feel that this condition is horribly unsafe, and at this point i am beginning to fear that the vehicle will become undrivable.
