I purchased a 2002 mercury sable in september of 2006. On january 19th while turning into my driveway traveling approximately 3-5 mph both air bags deployed causing approximately 4,000.00 dollars in damage to my car.the dealer that i purchased the car from stated i bought it as is and would not offer me any assistance except to tell me to file it with my insurance company.my insurance company sent an adjuster whom surveyed the damage and told me they would not pay because there was no impact.i then filed a complaint with ford motor company who said and i quote "there was a 50,000 mile warranty and they could not offer any assistance. Since this time to date i cannot get insurance or any help with this problem. I am still paying for a car i am not suppose to be driving. I purchased a 2002 mercury sable in september, 2006. On january 19, 2007 while turning into my driveway going 3-5 miles an hour both frontal airbags deployed causing an estimated $3,000.00 to $4,000.00 in damages. The dealer has refused to assist me saying i bought the car "as is".they told me to file the claim with my insurance company. The insurance company said they could do nothing "there was no impact". Ford motor company said there was a 50,000 mile warranty. Your department sent me a service technical bulletin stating that ford knew of this problem in may, 2002. I have been unable to get anyone (ie: dealer, insurancecompany, finance company, or manufacturer)to help me with this issue.in february of this year 2009, the fuel pump, driver, computer, and transmission went out in this car. I have spent over $1,600.00 in repair of this vehicle .due to the depreciation of the car, the mechanical failures, and the safety issue of no airbags the vehicle is worth nothing. I still owe the finance company $6,000.00 and have not been able to drive the car for the last 10 months. I was recently directed to research theconsumer rights act of 1974, the magnuson-moss warranty act, sale of goods act 1979, alabama lemon laws, buyersremorse law, trade commission act, uniform commercial code, and consumer rights when buying a used car by the bbb.i have been denied my rights. No consumer should have to experience what i have. Every consumer has the right to expect a car they purchase to meet reasonable standards. There was a grave issue of safety for meand my granddaughter when the airbags deployed. Thank god we were not injured.all of these failures have significantly impaired the use, value, and safety of this vehicle!they arose out of the ordinary use of the vehicle and not as a result of abuse. The motor vehicle is out of service and in the custody ofthe dealer due to repair attempts, one of which occurred during the lemon law rights period.

Went to the parking lot to start my car.when i turned the ignition key the passenger side airbag deployed and then the driver side airbag deployed.the concern is what if the car had started and i was driving down the highway and the airbag went off for no reason.
2002 mercury sable not equipped with optional "personal safety system" (no side airbags or occupant sensors on this vehicle) was involved in collision. Front end damage appears minimal, michigan state police estimated vehicle speed at collision approx. 25 mpg. Passenger airbag deployed, drivers airbag did not. The vehicle did protect the driver (me) and the seatbelt system worked flawlessly. I could have been injured but was not. Based on equipment on this vehicle, if the passenger airbag deployed then the drivers should have as well as it does not have the occupant sensors, etc. Main concern is in repair, the dealer stated that this happens somewhat frequently and i am concerned the drivers airbag will not be replaced.
In march 2003 while driving 52 mph vehicle was involved in a collision wherefront end was damaged, and front air bags did not deploy. Dealer stated that front air bags should have deployed. The vehicle check engine light illuminated and it's experiencing problem with the egr valve and fuel pump.

The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that the dome light would activate independently and only turn off only when the brakes were depressed. As the problem persisted, the door lights and the door locks started to malfunction. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 04v106000 (exterior lighting) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000. The current vehicle was mileage was 180,000.
Wire harness failure in rubber boots from body of car to rear lift gate on station wagon model. Insulation cracking and wire breaking completely in flexible rubber boot causes erratic behavior and ultimate failure of high brake light, back up lights, license plate lights, rear windshield wiper, rear window defroster, open lift gate and open rear window safety sensors and stereo speakers.insulation and wiring within boot has become brittle and fatigued. Clean breaks in wires from opening and closing lift gate are evident. Wires where insulation has broken through are coming in contact with other circuits where that insulation has broken through and results in "confusing" operation of lights.ie put car in reverse and high brake light comes on - put foot on brake and high brake light goes out. Backup lights don't come on at all.ie turn on rear windshield wiper and license plate light comes on.wiring does not appear to have sufficient number of multiple internal copper strands or supple enough insulation to provide needed flexibility during regular opening and closing of rear lift gate. Believe this to be a latent safety defect.manufacturer should have known during design that wiring in boot to station wagon lift gate would be prone to catastrophic failure with regular use.

Vehicle shuts down at highway speed without warning. Dealer was not able to duplicate the problem.the theft light came on as well as the abs light when the vehicle shut off.the consumer was told the idler air control was bad and had to be replaced.*tc when the vehicle stalled for the third time, the abs light did not illuminate, but the battery light along with other lights which displayed pictures did illuminate.the dealer had no idea what the problem was.
Automatic headlights relay soddard into backside of fuse panel (gem) was bad location for a person with no experience to fix or locate most people never got it fixed because of no experience and amount of money to have an electrical mechanic to fix. I understand there was a few people did get it fixed through a recall but i didn't and i never got a recall for this in the mail. I would like ford motor company fix this because i was never notified of this problem. My car has had this problem for about 12 years.

Since 2005, lights go out when in automatic mode, especially in rain and snow conditions. This has been checked three times by dealers but they could not find anything to repair. Driving at night and in limited visibility due to weather and then have the lights go off is an extremely unsafe position to be. The car occupants and other stakeholders are placed in jeopardy with this unresolved problem on the 2002mercury sable.
Recall electrical inside lighting. Disc player shortening out, brake light switch coming on.this has been repaired twice what can be done to correct the problem?
While drivingbrakes proceeded to the floor and the vehicle surged forward. As a result, driver had to put the vehicle into neutral. Dealer stated theat battery voltage was low.
I have a 2002 mercury sable w/ 40,000 miles on it. The car had to be taken back numerous times the hub caps fell off after the 6th time they replaced with alloy wheels.the right & left sway bar end links have been replaced. The altenator went out and was replaced. The transmission had to completely be overhauled. The powertrain control module replaed, the spark plug wire replaced, replaced processor and key. #4 plug wire shorting out caused coil to go bad and fouled #3 ac coil asy-ign replaced after fixing $3 & #4 showed up on power balance retest, but said road test was ok at this time suggested fel management. It scares me that so much can go wrong on a 2002 auto. I did have extended warranty on the altenator and transmission, but i would have hated to pay the $3028.00 charge to fix the problem, i wasn't real happy to pay the deductible.the extended warranty got stuck paying even though i had the car in under orignal warranty for the same problem.*la
I have a 2002 mercury sable with 54,000 miles. Suddenly & w/o warning, my alternator stopped working and drained my battery. I have had 3 ford products with some lasting 160,000 miles w/o ever having problems with alternators. I talked w/the customer service rep. At the repair shop about having to replace an alternator on a 3 year old vehicle, and he indicated that they had had a fairly large no. Of mercury sable & ford taurus replacement of alternators. Is this a design defect in the alternators?

Dt: thecontact stated water was coming from the outside of the vehicle, andleaking into the brake area.it was coming down behind the dashboard. When it rainedthere wouldbe water in the driver'sand passenger'sside floorboard. She contacted the dealer.the first time they cleared out some leaves.the second time they said it was the track on the sun roof.third time, the dealer claimedthe leak was coming from the windshield. The dealer was offering no free remedy. There wasnoise coming from passenger'sside front brakes. The dealer statedthis was normal. Updated 12/07/05.
Water leaked through windshield cowl onto the passenger floor board and causing blower fan motor to short out.ford admits this manufacturing defect in tsb 04-15-3.has caused me respiratory issues due to build up of mold in dash and carpeting.

Miles 70,290 (acc)i was driving ob the highway , to avoid a crash i had to stop quickly. All indicator lamps came on but the car did not shut off. Small clouds of smoke from exhaust (white-grey). It was parked for 2 days , start up was fine driving was fine also. Once again a( lead foot) driver cut me and another car off. Same thing avoiding a crash slamming on my break. Again all indicator lights on but the cut shuts off completely. Turn it back on its was hesitation smoke and shaking. And more. A tsb was issued for a part/piece that will cause premature engine failure.
Car was revving at high rates of speed.while at light it would rev at1700, in park 4600. Idling at 30 mph and car would speed itself up as if accelerator was stuck.when let off brake car would jump due to high revving. If i was waiting on train and didn't know better and edged up i would have jumped into the train. Issue was faulty cable that broke off at throttle and wouldn't allow a deceleration.was very scary. Luckily i know my car and knew something was wrong.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. When the ignition was turned to the on position, the vehicle revved to 4,000 rpms without warning. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. It was discovered that the accelerator cable attached to a clip was stuck in the upright position. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
Engine cut off while at a light.
When cruise control is on and active and gas pedal manually depressed ( to pass car) throttle will stick open.ball on throttle plate comes out of saddle on cruise control cable. When foot taken off gas ball on throttle plate does not return to original saddle position at end of cruise control cable. Ball on throttle plate gets stuck on edge of entrance to cable saddle. Throttle sticks partway open with amount open depending on cruise control cable position / amount of throttle commanded by cruise control.i fixed by placing a piece of 1/2" o.d. Tube over cable (slit along length and then over cable, cable tie in position).this is enough to keep ball on throttle from coming out of saddle on cruise cable.basically snap lock in saddle is wearing out after repeatedly pressing on gas while cruise control is on and active. No more problems for 20,000 miles.
While driving on the highwayoil light came on, and the vehicle started shaking. Vehicle stalled while the consumer was pulling off the highway. Consumer then checked the oil level which indicated empty.vehicle was towed to a dealership and stayed there for 3 weeks before they indicated thatengine lost itsoil.vehicle was then towed to a mechanic, who did tsb 10007358 print out that indicated that this was a common failure with these vehicle.
In march 2003 while driving 52 mph vehicle was involved in a collision wherefront end was damaged, and front air bags did not deploy. Dealer stated that front air bags should have deployed. The vehicle check engine light illuminated and it's experiencing problem with the egr valve and fuel pump.
I bought my car two months ago august 10,2003, from hoodriver ford mercury, and so far, it has been in the shop twice.while i am sitting,it dies and will not keep idling after 5 minutes. I have taken it in twice to the shop at the ford dealer, and they have already cost me $48.00 on my ford credit card for a fuel pump.they also said that they put in new sensors too. I don't want to use up my full warranty in a few months.... Two days ago, i took it back and they put in four other parts with something to do with leaking valves and or something else.it is now sitting in the shop again, as they haven't resolved anything, it still will not idle for long. I tried to get them to replace the car with something else, but they refused to do so. Now, i drive for the senior services, and i need a dependable car that i can rely on for my work.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.the contact stated that he experiences intermediate failure with the vehicle.in march of 2007, while coming to a complete stop at 5 mph, the engine revved and the rpms maxed out on the engine.while the vehicle continued to rev, the contact depressed the brake pedal, placed the vehicle in neutral, and shut off the vehicle.the contact has experienced the same failure five times since the first failure.the dealer stated that they could find no failures with the vehicle.the vin, engine size, number of cylinders, powertrain, and transmission type were unknown.the current mileage was 40,000 and failure mileage was 35,000.
This is a recurring problem with my 2002 mercury sable. Water leaks into the interior blower motor and shorts it out. I've replaced the motor and switch 3 times each over the last year and it keeps happening. Ford wants about $400 to repair. I discovered that a lot of people have this problem with this make and model and the taurus.
Engine suddenly began racing, (as if the accelerator was stuck) while pulling into a parking space at the mall.was able to stop the car by firmly applying the brakes.checked and verified that the floor mat was not interfering with the accelerator pedal.
Vehicle stalled intermittently while driving. Vehicle gave no warning before it died.service dept can not find the problem. *tc
After stopping at intersection, traffic light, etc., unexplained engine surge and engine noise, makes car lurch forward even when applying all possible pressure to brakes. Surge ceases only when transmissionput in neutral. Towed to dealerfirst time, driven several times. This has happened several times. Dealer can find nothing wrong. I am always apprehensive when driving this vehicle.
While driving, the engine completely shut down. Once the vehicle has been turned completely off, the vehicle would start againafter a few minutes.please provide any further information. Please provide vehicle identification number.
While driving- car jerked, dash lights lit, engine stopped.car towed to clovis ford dealer-defective engine cam position sensor (p/n 1f1z6b288 ba) and cam position sensor drive (da 2089).
After 18 months of proper operation, the automatic heater/ac temperature control started to malfunction on my vehicle.when started from a cold start, the interior temperature is maintained at a comfortable 77 to 78 degrees.as time passes, it is necessary to keep increasing the temperature until after an hour has passed, the setting is at 85 degrees and it is still too cold. The next setting is 90 degrees which is full heat to car.it doesn't take long for the heat to run you out.then it has to be set back to 85 degrees.this is not only annoying and uncomfortable, it is unsafe, because while driving, i have to continually make the adjustments.the problem is a permanent one; it does not come and go.had it back to dealer 4 times, most of the time they ran the can in the heated and air conditioned shop and could not duplicate the problem.at my last time to the dealer, the service manager told me that they had spent all the time and money they were going to on my vehicle unless they could come up with an error code.they showed me how to read the error code but there is no error code.it seems as though the temperature sensor in the cabin module is heating up with operation, or changing for some other reason.the system did not operate like this for the first 18 months life of the car and should not now.ford apparently cannot solve a problem without an error code. Again, it is a safety problem to me as well a comfort problem.the actual date that it started is approximate.the very poor temperature control accounts for a good portion of the low mileage on the car.my little mercury tracer is able to keep us very comfortable and warm and cost a whole lot less.
1. Driving in hot weather2. A/c and fans inoperable, slight smell of smoke3. Replace fan motor, resistor, cowel panel and rain hat seal. This failure was addressed in the nhtsa item# 10011149.
2002 mercury sable ls. Consumer states problems with fuel injector and damaged valve *tgwthe consumer stated when the check engine light illuminated, the vehicle developed an engine miss. The problem was diagnosed as a faulty #5 fuel injector. Codes po305 and po316.the cost of the repair was $800 plus dollars.when the consumer retrieved the vehicle, he was informed there was some carbon deposits present and the vehicle might run a little rough until the carbon burned off. One week later, the check engine light illuminated again. It was the same two codes from a previous repair. The dealer informed the consumer of a damaged valve and the cost would be anywhere from $1600-$2000.the consumer filed a complaint with the attorney generals office and was refunded his money from the previous repair. The consumer stated the problem with his vehicle remains unresolved. The engine has an internal defect. Updated 10/17/11
My car (2002 mercury sable) continues to fail smog inspection due to faulty oxygen sensors.i have taken it to the dealer and it costs at least $200 each time i take it in and they never completely fix it stating it is an ongoing problem with this car.the check engine light is always on.
Dt:the consumer said that he got out of the car to go get a hair cut,and when he came out the car was running although he had the keys in his hands.when the consumer popped the hood, the engine was running, and when he closed the hood it stopped all of a sudden.the consumer had no idea that this was going to happen.the consumer saw on cnn news about ford.the consumer had become concerned and wanted someone to help him.the dealer said that they could not find anything wrong with the car.the manufacturer said that the car was not on recall.the caller wasvery concerned because he needed the car and wanted someone to help him.the problem may be due to the cruise control switch. *sc

Stated a very suspicious fire seeing there is only 16,000-17,000 miles. Ford will not investigate and refuses to give me an answer to why and how i almost died in a severe car fire - there is not much left to the vehicle- it is sitting at stu evans ford mercury, garden city, michigan- your help would be greatly appreciated. I only had limited insurance and could not afford fire and theft for i just graduated from college trying to find a job. 1 week before this incident i retained a job and now have no vehicle. My mother purchased it for 12,000.00 for a grad. Gift for me so i wouldn't have a car payment to worry about. Now i have nothing. The car was running fine, no noises or anything,. An oil change was done 4 weeks prior to the incident.
My car was running fine, i purchased the car june 2003, i have kept up with typical vehicle maintenance. My last oil change the mechanic said it was low, checked for leaks and did not find anything. I was driving home from work the engine light started to blink and the car would not accelerate. I pulled over, turned the car off.i let the car rest for 10 minutes tried to start again and theengine would run but chugged and vibrated.had the car towed to the family mechanic and found out the camshaft broke.my sable has 72,000 miles, i purchased the car with 21,000 miles from columbia ford in columbia ct.my mechanic said the engine was built poorly because this should not have happened, it is very rare.so here i am, three years into my loan and three years to go--$8000 left to pay and it is going to cost $3000+ to put in a new engine. Anyone want a car for $8000 without an engine?i would never by a ford or a mercury again!!

Recall electrical inside lighting. Disc player shortening out, brake light switch coming on.this has been repaired twice what can be done to correct the problem?
Automatic headlights relay soddard into backside of fuse panel (gem) was bad location for a person with no experience to fix or locate most people never got it fixed because of no experience and amount of money to have an electrical mechanic to fix. I understand there was a few people did get it fixed through a recall but i didn't and i never got a recall for this in the mail. I would like ford motor company fix this because i was never notified of this problem. My car has had this problem for about 12 years.

Intermittent fuel smell in passenger compartment over past year and a half.had it checked and problem could not be identified as the fuel smell would not be present when brought in for service check.in december of 2010, fuel began pouring out from top of fuel tank and onto ground when engine was running.problem discovered in plastic connection elbow at top of fuel pump which connects to fuel line above fuel tank at the pump.elbow had a fine crack along the top and fuel would spray out when fuel pump was running.this was the original factory pump.car was original with no history of collision or repairs in this area.i have retained the pump.
In march 2003 while driving 52 mph vehicle was involved in a collision wherefront end was damaged, and front air bags did not deploy. Dealer stated that front air bags should have deployed. The vehicle check engine light illuminated and it's experiencing problem with the egr valve and fuel pump.
Accelerator stuck. Vehicle accelerated when cruising on highway. Put it in neutral at exit from highway, stuck at 4000 rpm. Problem was accelerator cable. Ferrule broken in engine compartment and outer part of cable hung up on mounting bracket.
We were backing out of a parking space & the car accelerated as though i had pressed the gas pedal. This is the third time this has happened, but the first time going in reverse. Both other times the car was in drive. The first time i was on the freeway and i assumed my foot had accidentally pushed the gas, so i ignored it. The second time i was on a county road, and again i assumed it was my fault. This is the first time i could have really hurt someone, and this could potentially be very dangerous.

This mechanical problem has happened two times. The first time was at approximately 120,000 miles.the car is always serviced, well maintained and runs terrific. I was driving for about 30 minutes on the parkway. Suddenly i experienced the car sticking like it was choking, losing power and then surging ahead. I was shocked, continued to drive and it eventually cleared itself. I have never had any other symptoms or incidents like this in the past. I thought it might be a clogged fuel injector so i immediately added some fuel injector cleaner. I brought the car to my mechanic the next morning but he couldn't find anything wrong with the car. The second time it happened was about 3 - 4 weeks later and i called the mechanic again. We only found a small transmission leak but nothing else. I happened to mention the incidents to a mechanic friend of mine at work and he told me it sounded like the throttle. He said he also thought there was a recall on my car. I believe this is a potentially very dangerous issue and need the dealer and the nhtsa to advise if there is a recall! if there isn't then there should be one. Please advise.
I have just found out from my mechanic that the transmission, ax4n, that is in my mercury, have sudden and immediate failures due to a defect in the torque converter. When i called several local transmission shops, they are all aware of this problem. Cost to fix, approximately $1800 for a new torque converter. While you are driving the car it will act like you shifted into neutral. The engine is running, but the car will not move forward or backward. You immediately have to find a place to pull over to. This can be quite hazardous if you are on the expressway. There is no preventive maintenance you can do to prevent this problem. This is a manufacturing defect. The hydraulic pump shaft has approximately two inches of mail spline. The female counterpart which is in the torque converter is approximately one eighth of an inch in thickness. The hydraulic pump shaft will strip the teeth on the torque converter. This causes the car to become inoperable. What is frustrating is that you will have no warning when this will happen. And you do not have any warning of an impending problem. You are now looking at a $1800, for a replacement torque converter. The rebuild company that sells rebuilt torque converters replaces the 1/8 inch female spline, that has stripped, in the torque converter with a new 1/4 inch thick female spline in the torque converter. It certainly seems that ford was negligent when assembling this transmission. This is a safety issue. My car can loose power at any time. When making a left turn into oncoming traffic or on the road while traveling on the expressway. I now have to drive this car and be paranoid while on the road. There is nothing i can do to prevent this problem. I would have to replace the torque converter for peace of mind while driving this car. It only has 69,000 miles on it. Ford said my car is out of warranty. Sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The transmission froze up breaking the axle right off as i pulled out of a drive way onto the street with on coming traffic.
Hit the brakes while driving and the engine revs up. Multiple times to dealer and still not fixed- i requested a new computer or brain for the car while under extended warranty- no go from dealer. On snow this is very scary-on wet roads in florida i put it in neutral and the engine revs when i hit the brakes-when someone gets hit and killed i will be told i should have told someone -multiple drivers and people have been with me when this has occurred- including mechanics from a lincoln mercury dealer in orchard park ny.
My daughter had just merged onto the highway going approximately 65mph.initially it felt difficult to get the car up to speed.she noticed she was edging up on the vehicle in front of her and took her foot off the accelerator to slow down but instead the car sped up.she applied the brakes which did not slow the car down.she applied pressure to the accelerator in an attempt to "unstick" it which had no effect on the speed of the car.she then attempted to apply the brakes further at which time the brakes began smoking.the car had reached 90mph at this point and was shaking.while continuing to keep her foot on the brakes, she was able to pull into the breakdown lane and put the car into neutral but the vehicle only slowed down minimally at which time she put the car into park.the vehicle then stopped but she kept her foot on the brake because the engine continued to rev between 3,000 - 4,000 rpms and she could feel resistance as if the car wanted to continue to move forward despite being in park. At that time she shut off the engine and called for assistance.when my husband and i arrived on scene my husband verified that the accelerator was not stuck on anything, such as a floor mat.once he saw that the accelerator appeared to be in a normal position he started the vehicle and immediately the engine was reving with rpms again between 3,000 - 4,000.the engine was again shut off and the vehicle was towed to the local ford dealership.

I own a 2002 mercury sable vin # [xxx].the automatic transmission slips badly when going from first to second gear.i have been trying to get the dealer, fairfeild lincoln mercury, 6065 dixie highway, fairfeild ohio, 45014, to repair the problem since 11/17/03 with no result.on october 25, 2004 i pulled out in traffic and was almost struck when the vehicle failed to shift and accelerate through the intersection.the transmission fails to shift and the rpms maxed out.the vehicle simply coasted through the intersection and the other vehicle was able to narrowly avoid hitting me.on the three occasion (which i can document) the dealership said they drove the vehicle and could not duplicate the failure and thus they could not repair the vehicle.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have a 2002 mercury sable w/ 40,000 miles on it.

Rental car ford taurus, front pass seatbelt tightened would not release, cutting into throat.returned car.rec'd mercury sable, same problem.was stuck driving 17 hours from in to ct with belt cutting into throat.used belt properly.when leaning over to pick up item from floor, or glove compartment belt would deploy completely.upon returning body to upright position, belt made clicking noises and tightened with every upright movement.became extremely constricting.driver had to release belt for 17 hour trip.pass retracted it completely, deploy it to use it, and tried to stay still and not move.when movement occurred belt would reach it's end and start clicking and constricting with every tiny movement.needless to say after 17 hours of driving and tightening, skin under belt area is very tender, throat is sore, almost choked, almost cut.for part of trip had to place seat in laydown position to alleviate throat constriction of belt.mfg states 'that is the way dot set up the regulations, and we just follow them...belts are made for us.....no recalls.....no adjustments can be made'.it is my understanding others had to cut off the belt.even went to test drive them, same thing happened.belt is made for child safety?some type of sensor?no accident occurred at any time.belt is malfunctioning when deployed all the way by just bending over or moving around.before someone gets seriously hurt, someone needs to recall and restyle these existing belts.drivers belt did not have any type of problems.bending and leaning over deployed it completely and no retracting occurred at all.very dangerous having driver, driving and trying to release passenger belt, and passenger unbelted while traveling retracting and resetting belt.we were lucky we were not in an accident while dealing with the belt issue.as the belt was unbuckled numerous times over 17 hours.call if you have any questions at860-623-7774.in good faith, doreen alfano.

Left front spring broke gouging an 8 inch tear in tire side wall causing a blowout and damage to anti-lock brake system.transmission mount was also damaged.if this had happened at highway speeds, loss of steering control and braking could have caused serious injuries.ford denies any responsibility.i was told that ford had admitted frequent spring failure on its 1999 to 2001 taurus/sable vehicles and installed guards to protect the tires from blowout.this is second spring failure in 2 years.the first time was the right rear spring broke damaging strut and gouging tire but not causing deflation. Two spring failures on the same vehicle in 2 years indicate that it is not an isolated incident.this is time bomb waiting for someone to get seriously injured.
While drivingbrakes proceeded to the floor and the vehicle surged forward. As a result, driver had to put the vehicle into neutral. Dealer stated theat battery voltage was low.
I put my foot on the brake, and the car accelerated and i was unable to stop causing an accident. This has also happened on several other occassions causing near miss accidents.

Talked to ford mercury people but theysay the dealer decided that it was not covered under warranty, dealer says ford mercury made that decision.i am stuck in the middle trying to argue with both, with each side putting blame on the other.there is no damage to the body where the body rupture exists around the lock assembly hole in the door body:there has been no accident, nobody trying to jimmy open the lock to steal the cart ( an alarm is installed in the car) and i can find no other reason for the body to start splitting at the hole where the lock assembly fits.i need your help to have ford mercury live up to their warranty and, if appropriate, have a neutral party evaluate the problem.2. Brake and gas pedals are too close together, more than once, vehicle failed to stop because when applying the brake consumers foot hit the gas pedal and vehicle would not stop. .
Windshield on 2002 mercury sable is defective. *mr the consumerheard a noise coming from the right side of the windshield in the area of the glove box.the problem was intermittent.the problem would seem to get worse during cold weather.(rattling and whistling)the rear brake light would stay lit after the consumer exited the vehicle.the consumer would have to reopen the vehicle and step on the brake pedal a few times before the brakes would go out.(this was an occasional problem)the brake pedal was on recall which was #04106000, but the windshield was not.the windshield recall #03v087000. *sc
We have a 2002 mercury sable ls premier model. This "failure" has happened several times now, but neither of us communicated to the other about it until today.it is an intermittent surge of the car when braking. The latest time was today, and it happened to my wife. It happened to me also several weeks ago as well.i stepped on the brakes and instead of stopping, the car seemed to go faster and not want to stop.extreme force was needed to stop the car.then it was fine.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while pulling out of the driveway at an unknown speed, the contact heard a rumbling sound coming from his vehicle.when he made it to the highway, the vehicle suddenly dropped to the ground.the contact was driving 20 mph at the time of failure.he was able to get the vehicle off the road and have it towed to bill wilson's auto body shop.the vehicle is currently at the shop being repaired at the cost of $570.the repairs consists of a new strut, spring, and alignment.the failure and current mileages were 73,000. 2002 mercury sable gs - 103,000 miles, never been in a collision, always maintained by the book.on april 2, 2010 at 8:00 am, i was pulling forward out of my parking spot when a loud thud and a grinding noise stopped me from going any further.this was a total surprise as nothing about the previous day's driving hinted at an suspension/steering problem.after checking behind both front wheels, i found that the left front coil spring had snapped and a plastic piece had been broken by the impact.no tire damage occurred.i was just pulling out of a parking spot so speed was less than 10 mph by the time the noise forced me to stop.had this happened at speed i would surely have lost control of the car.the sable was taken away on a flatbed truck and cost about $1300.00 to repair using new parts.something needs to be done, i did research on this and it only affects 2002-2003 sable/taurus, irrespective of mileage.i believe this is complaint number 356 for this specific manufacturer's flaw.
In motion the car wants to keeps accelerating even when you hit brake. And will stay the speed you are going or go faster. And you don't have to keep pushing accelerated. From start the rpms go straight to like 5 to 6 to 7 rpms and takes about 30 sec to idle down. I have tried everything to fix it. It just won't fix!.... My power steering pump is brand new my rack and pinion is brand new. And my fluid still wants to over flow every time i get done driving it. I have tried everything to fix it can't and it's so hard to turn. Just not safe car at all i have put money in to fix all of this and it hasn't changed anything. They just keep messing up. The both of them. And the acceleration is very very dangerous. Cause the brake won't even slow you down. In motion and it happens in motion. And the rpms ramp up happens when just turning it on. And the power steering happens in motion an stationary.......!!!!!
I took my 2002 mercury sable sedan in to the dealer to have the oil changed and the front left tire checked.when i called to pick up the car, i was told that the left front inner tie rods were loose and that the rear coils/springs were all broken. There are only 76,600 miles on the car. We are the only owners. The repair cost was nearly $1,000.00. This needs to be addressed by ford. Very dangerous. And unheard of for a 6 yr old car with low mileage.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while the vehicle was parked, the contact heard a loud bang.upon further inspection, he noticed that the driver's side front end collapsed to the ground.he started the vehicle and heard a loud sound coming from the engine.the contact exited the vehicle and noticed that the tire was flat and that something hanging from the engine sliced the tire.he was unable to open the hood because the hood cable was damaged during the failure.the contact is in the process of towing the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection and notifying the manufacturer.the failure and current mileages were 55,500.
Water leaked into the a/c fan motor, causing failure to the a/c unit. Please provide more information.
Had burnt out blower motor replaced on my 2002 mercury sable aug 30, 2005.i was told by dealer that they just go sometimes.on october 26, 2005 i brought car back to dealer due to water leaking onto floor on the passenger side below the blower motor.i was then told they had a "service bulletin" on that and it was caused by a design defect in the cabin air filter and water channels into the blower motor which causes them to burn out.they then said they have to install a rain hat and reseal the area for a cost of about 300.00.while replacing the rain hat , the tech. Pulled out the new blower motor (which was full of water) to blow the water out of it and then replaced it. Obviously this is what caused the first blower motor to go which cost 270.00 to replace. I'm sure the dealer knew what caused the blower motor to burn out because they had that "service bulletin" and should of told me about the design defect then and fixed the problem then.i ended up paying double for labor.this problem should be a recall and the manufacturer should be responsible.it's a defect in the design of the vehicle and the consumer should not have to pay.how many other sable/taurus owners have this problem?
Leaking connection between windshield water and blowing motor of heating/ventilation causing windows to fog up after starting and beginning driving. When opening the blower motor compartment you can actually water see dripping out. Also a soaking wet floor will occur right after a severe rainstorm. This is a mayor safety issue due to bad visibility!
Water leak onto the pass side floor.was told by the service person that this was an on going problem with ford taurus and mercury sables. That it appears to be the way the vehicles were put together in the factory.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. While driving approximately 3 mph in reverse out of his driveway, he heard a loud banging noise. 1. Driving in hot weather2. A/c and fans inoperable, slight smell of smoke3. Replace fan motor, resistor, cowel panel and rain hat seal. This failure was addressed in the nhtsa item# 10011149.
The upper door hinge pin fell out, due to the pin lock washer breaking, causing the door to fall. The hinge is installed upside down with the stop guard on the bottom due to the fender being in the way to install it right side up. As such the flimsy lock washer which holds the pin broke off allowing the pin to work its way down. Upon inspection of the other door pins, 2 of the remaining 3 were broken but had not yet fallen off. The doors are potentially harmful to anyone opening them and having them drop on a child or senior as well as the possible strain if held onto under these circumstances.dt

1. Vehicle is still under manufacturer's 3 yr bumper to bumper warranty but they will not repair a rupture in the body (fatigue?) which has allowed the driver side door lock to come loose. The rupture is progressively increasing.brought to attention of dealer, mall of georgia ford in buford ga, tel. 770-932-4060, on 10-27-2003. Dealer promised to order part and call my wife at home on its arrival. I went out of the country for 4 months. My wife never rec'd any call. The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that the vehicle was not balanced and dropped to the floor abnormally. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician advised that the front coil spring was fractured and caused damage to the brake pad and blower. The front coil spring, brake pad and blower were replaced. After the repair the front coil spring fractured a second time. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
Per ea08018 front right coil fractured upon backing up, ripped deep hole in newer tire causing flat.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable gs. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, there was a loud bang and the front passenger tire blew. The contact almost lost control of the vehicle as she merged onto the shoulder and rolled into a ditch. There were no injuries and the vehicle was not damaged. The tire was removed and the spare was installed. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer where the tire was originally purchased and after inspection, the technician advised that the coil spring caused the tire damage. The dealer was notified of the coil spring failure and advised that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted who confirmed that there were no recalls and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 113,000.
As i tried to pull forward from a parking spot, i noticed the vehicle would not hardly move forward, and a very loud groaning noise was present. I could not turn the wheel, and as i tried to back up, i heard a loud pop. Upon further inspection, i noticed that the left front tire had blown, and the left front spring was broken and sticking into the tire on the inside! the spring did not look rusty or excessively dirty.

I was backing out of my garage when i immediately became aware the vehicle was not moving normally, the front drivers side tire was completely flat. When i was changing the tire i noticed the spring had broken and punctured and ruined the tire. This evidently happened while the car was parked in the garage as i heard no noise from the breaking spring or escaping air.i feel fortunate this happened in the garage and not at highway speeds.
On 2/6/2017 my 2002 mercury sable wagon with 63512 miles on itthe front spring broke tore the inside of tire apart not sure what else was damaged at this point . My car being in verygood condition not your typical n.yrust not a issue this is a very dangerous design defect.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, a tire became flat without warning. The contact did not specify which tire became flat. The following addresses an issue i encountered with my vehicle, a 2002 mercury sable. On january 12th, 2012, i was driving on a two way road during a heavy snowstorm. I was traveling about 35 miles per hour, which was below the speed limit, due to the road conditions. At this time, i heard a loud noise and experienced a loss of control over my vehicle. After pulling over, i investigated the noise and discovered that the front right tire was completely shredded and partially off the rim. I towed the car to a repair shop and learned that the suspension spring broke and punctured the tire and damaged the strut. This is also a year and a half after i had a similar problem with the front left spring. Neither the strut nor the tires were damaged during this event at that time.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that while backing the vehicle out of the garage, the front driver's side suspension coil spring suddenly fractured and punctured the side tire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 105,000.
While vehicle was sitting unattended in a public parking lot the driverside coilover spring failed. The results was suspension and tire damage totaling the vehicle.
I started my car and started to back out of my garage. I went about 1 foot when i heard a pop, then the front left side of the car dropped instantly.the tire was flat, so took another vehicle to work.when i came home from work, i jacked the car up to pull the tire off, but couldn't.at inspecting the front wheel assembly in noticed that the coil spring was into the tire side wall.not knowing what happened, i called my mechanic who came the next day to inspect the damage.he was able to pull the tire off the car and we saw that the bottom part of the spring had broken off and went into the tire. My mechanic said both front springs would have to be replaced with the tire and strut support.he said i was very lucky that i was not driving, because i or persons could have been severly injured.i drive 22 miles one way to work on hilly and windy roads. The broke spring was not damaged or have any corrosion. There was a recall of sable and taurus vehicles (nhtsa #04v332000) for this exact problem. After searching the internet, i have found hundreds of people with the same problem for 2002 sable / taurus.why hasn't theprevious recall for the earlier vehicles be extended to year 2002?
Backed the sable to the end of my driveway, was moving very slowly, when a loud bang was heard under the car.upon inspection, the drivers side front coil spring had broken and a jagged edge of the broken coil spring punctured the tire.i contacted my local dealer who said there was no recall on the spring for this year and model.i then did some research on the internet and discovered that this is a fairly common occurrence on this car and the similar ford taurus.
2002 mercury sable ls premium, 64,000 miles. The springs broke in the front wheel assembly. Caused tire rip and cost $1,100 in repairs.
While having tires rotated at sam's club, the technician notified me that both rear springs were broken.
While attempting to back out of my garage, the coil spring on the front driver side strut broke and shot into my front tire, puncturing and immediately flattening my tire.the spring was embedded in the tire so far that they were unable to remove the tire to put on the spare.the car had to be forced in reverse far enough back to be able to hook it onto the tow truck which shredded the front tire.had to have front springs, struts, abs speed sensor, alignment and new tire put on the vehicle.very lucky that this incident happened in my garage and not out on the roadway.
I drive a 2002 mercury sable that was purchased a few months ago. We are a family of three that doesn't drive often or like a nascar driver. But last week while reversing, my tires blew. We were going to put the spare on when we noticed that the strut/spring that punctured and blown the tire. We are so thankful that we were not on the interstate when this happened because we could've been killed. Not only that, but we are spending hundreds of dollars on this issued that should be recalled! i have done some research on this car and noticed that this is a common problem for many owners of the mercury sable anad ford taurus. It is not right for a company to think that they can get away with this. Our family was hit head on, on the interstate a year ago adn could've died!! we are still disabled and will be for the rest of our lives. The last thing i want in my life is to have another close call to death! this needs to be addressed! i now have to purchase 2 brand new tires, even though i just got new ones! need new strut/spring combos on each side, otherwise they wear differently and could have more issues later and new ball joints on each side. Not only that but i have to get these tires balanced and rotated at another fee. Didn't have a car for over a week, and missed school. Fix this issue! do some research yourself and you will see we have a big problem on our hands!!! why should i have to pay and suffer for thier mistake? can you answer these questions for me?
As i was backing my car out of the driveway, i heard a noise and then a hiss. Then the car resisted further motion. The right front tire was completely flat. I tried to reinflate it but could not. I removed the front wheel and mounted the mini spare tire. There was a complete circumferential tear of the tire sidewall near the tread. I assumed it was a spontaneous failure of the tire. When i bought new tires today at costco, the mechanic said he could not put the right front wheel on the car because a piece of broken spring was projecting outboard and hitting the sidewall of the new tire. Inspection showed the left front coil spring was also broken but the pointed end was aimed inward. The inferior coil was broken off and was loose but could not be easily removed from the strut. I told the mechanic to remount the mini-spare on the right front.until i looked on the internet i had no idea this was a common failure that fomoco had partially addressed years ago in other model years but not 2002. It seems that many of these failures have occurred at rest or slow speeds, but i also think this is a function of the fact that cars sit most of their lives. There has been significant financial damage to owners for tires and repairs, but luckily there have been no serious physical injuries. Because the failures are sudden and catastrophic, there is certain to be a serious and perhaps fatal incident in the future. Fomoco and the us government should not be subjecting the unknowing and trusting public to the risks of luck, because it will eventually turn bad.apparently fomoco does not care enough about its drivers to repair the defect, or mitigate the danger and damage, or even inform owners of the danger. Nhtsa act now, do your job, and protect us from those who build automobiles, but don't care.
Hi i am writing about my 17-year-old son's car.it is a 2002 mercury sable.he had a blow-out 4 nights ago which prompted him to call aaa to change it at 11:30 p.m.the next day we went to get a new tire for the front passenger side, they put a new tire on it, we paid them and proceeded to back out of the driveway and the tire went flat.the mechanic then took the tire off and told us we had a broken coil spring that was puncturing the tires. We then took the car to the garage to have this spring replaced for $150 and upon driving the car into the shop the other side broke and punctured the left tire.so now my bill is up to $300 already and he hasn't even checked the rear coils yet.it is very frustrating to me to see that they had recalls for the 2001 sable and obviously they haven't fixed the problem.this was a very terrifying thing for me to drive to stay with my son while waiting for aaa and to see this tire that was split in half.my son was only minutes from getting onto the highway where this could have been a horrific accident.i have read lots of complaints on the internet about the 2002 having problems so my question is why hasn't anything been done yet.i sure hope it doesn't have to come to someone getting hurt or even worse before this problem is fixed.
Driver backing out of parking space when heard metallic grinding sound followed by a bang. Then we heard the sound of metal on pavement.when got out of car the drivers side of the car was sitting so low that i could not get a jack under it.the driver front tire was completely shredded on the inside of the wheel well. It is costing us $700 to repair.as per odiresume ea 08-18 document under reason for closing the following sentence appears, "the coil springs in the subject vehicles are defective." even if there is no real danger to traffic safety it is still and issue that ford should be required to address, we as the driving public should not have to pay hundreds of dollars to repair it.also if ford wants to keep their customers they should address problems such as this.we are thinking of looking to toyota or honda for our next car after driving fords since 1997.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact was driving approximately 15 mph attempting a turn when suddenly there was a loud noise coming from outside of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and noticed that the rear of the vehicle slightly collapsed in a tiled position towards the passenger side. The vehicle was driven at an extremely low speed rate to the nearest dealer for diagnosis. The rear passenger side coil spring fractured, and was replaced. Back springs both broke on 2002 sable..had to get fixed to pass inspection......in jan 2009 front spring broke and punctured my left front tire..i understand ford had recalls or safety issues w/springs for 1999,2000,2001 & 2003 but not my 2002..i have tried w/ford to no avail for resolution with this issue to no avail....i have read many complaints on internet for same exact problem i have had w/2002 vehicles..how did ford skip the 2002 models?
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that the vehicle made a loud grinding noise while reversing then the left front end dropped. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the left front tire was flat. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic and was inspected. The left front coil spring fractured due to corrosion and cut the tire side wall. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 55,000.
Regular driving. Both of the rear suspension coils snapped and the front coils appear to be on their way as well.
Front passenger side spring broke while driving the car out of the garage.the broken spring cut a 4 inch gash in the tire and caused a flat.there was not an accident because we were driving so slowly in the garage but the tire blew suddenly and could have potentially caused an accident.to the best of my knowledge springs are not supposed to break however the tow truck driver, tire salesman, and several dealers all reported it as a common problem with the model care i was driving.replaced both springs & struts in the front and tire $730.00.i was advised that the rear springs should be safe because i have a wagon and they are a different part.
Front left coil spring fractured when i got into my car.car was parked.coil spring penetrated the front tire and ruptured it.this is identical to the failure reported in 04v332000, but my car is about 6 months older than the manufacturing range of that recall.
I drive a 2002 mercury sable.i was turning left into a gas station driveway and i heard a loud metal sound, as loud as a gunshot.i got out of the car and looked underneath and all around the area adjacent to the car but i could not see anything.i was able to drive the car to a repair shop without incident, but every time i went over the slightbest bump, the car sounded like it was going to fall apart (lots of metal scraping noises).the repair shop said that my front coil springs had broken and that i was lucky that the spring had not punctured my tire. The mechanic called ford to check on a recall for the springs because he said that this was a very common problem for ford/mercury cars.ford informed him that my car was not included in the recall.i went ahead with the repair which was a complicated mess because of twisting, rust, etc.my bill was close to $900.00.i was just thankful that no one in my family was injured as a result of this faulty equipment.as stated in many of the complaint forums relating to this spring problem, i agree that ford is just waiting until there are deaths involved with this problem before they will take any action.just another example of what is wrong with the american automobile industry.i owned a saab for 18 years until my husband totaled it.i owned a toyota before that.this mercury was forced upon me because of my economic condition at the time.i will never own another ford/mercury vehicle again.just an added note:my husband just found out yesterday that his rear coil springs on his 2001 ford taurus are broken.i am anxious to see if ford will take responsibility for this spring failure.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that while reversing out of the driveway, the front driver's side tire exploded. The suspension coil spring on the driver's side fractured and slashed the tire causing the tire to explode. The contact stated that the suspension needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 37,500.
My car was parked in the garage, when i sat down in the seat i hear a loud noise, which was caused by the driver front side coil spring broke and plunged into the tire. Had this had happened while driving it would have most like cause a severe accident. The cost to fix it was higher as it was recommended that both front springs be replaced for safety reasons.
On may 25, 2010, the left rear strut and spring broke, and punctured my tire.one year later, almost to the date, the left front strut and spring broke and punctured that tire also.luckily for the second incident, the car was parked.i would hate to think what might have happened had i been driving the car at the time.the rod was right inside the tire, and i'm sure it would have created an accident!ford/mercury has no recall on my vin, although there are recalls on the ford taurus, which is basically the same car.it is also not part of the ford customer satisfaction guarantee as some of the taurus' are.i think ford/mercury should have taken the appropriate action to have these repaired.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle made a loud snapping noise. The contact mentioned that while he drove the vehicle out of the garage the passenger front tire blew. After inspecting the vehicle he noticed that the passenger front coil spring broken. The manufacturer advised that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v332000 (suspension: front: springs: coil springs). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current and mileage was 113,000.
Our 2002 sable was brought in for an emergency brake cable issue.while working on the rear brakes, the mechanic noticed that a rear suspension spring was broken.he said we were very lucky it did not rupture the tire.we had both rear springs replaced, because we did not know what caused it to break.after that work was done the car needed to be aligned, and that is when they noticed that a front suspension spring was even more severely broken that is when we searched for possible bulletins or recalls.there were many complaints about 2002 sable spring breakage, and some actually rupturing tires.there in fact was a recall issued for 2001 mercury sables with spring breakage problems, but not for 2002s.we know in fact that the same part is used on 2001 and 2002s. So, for safety reasons we hadno choice but to replace both front springs.we feel that this is a severe safety issue.we were lucky that the springs did not break and rupture tires when we were driving at a high speed.we believe that a bulletin should be issued to notify owners of this safety issue, and that repairs should be covered under a recall.we put out some $1200 to remedy the issue. Do we have any chance of compensation for our expenses? i did call ford and made a complaint, and have been assigned a case number#[xxx].thank you for any assistance you can provide.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he noticed that the front driver's side tire was flat. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and the contact was informed that the front driver's side coil spring fractured and punctured the tire. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 123,000.
I moved the car in my driveway and the left front spring broke and went through the tire sidewall. If this had happen at highway speed or even less the car could have gone off the road and rolled. I had the car towed and the truck driver told me this was a common problem. He said he ran into a couple time a month. I called ford and they said there was no recall. I know the car is 11 years old, but it has very low miles and the spring had no rust it looked like new. This seems to be a serious safety issue please look into it.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.the contact stated that while parked, the coil spring fractured and pierced the front driver's side tire. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who advised the contact that the front coil springs and the struts needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance due to the vehicle not being included in any recalls. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and the current mileage was 72,800. Updated 3/13/13
My husband merely sat in our car and we heard a terrible noise from the back - it was the springs breaking.we spent $400.00 to repair both rear springs.a month later, i took the car in for new tires and the drivers-side front spring broke.we ended up replacing springs, shocks, and mounting hardware for a total of $650.ford has recalled the 1998-2001, but this problem obviously is still not fixed and the 2002 should be recalled as well.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. Upon starting the vehicle, it would not move. The failure occurred without warning. Upon inspection, the front coil springs fractured and detached, damaging the front driver side tire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 04v332000 (suspension), but the vin was excluded. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
Approximately 39,000 miles. No rust car. Rubbing noise and all tires with history oflosing air. While replacing all tires, wheel tech noticed right rear coil spring was fractured and completely wore off interior tire ridge. Placed doughnut tire on and advised i take to mechanic to have all springs fully checked. Car currentlyat mechanic shop this evening. Right rear coil spring definitely fractured. Seems many reports of same nature on this model. Why no recall on rear coil springs with so many complaints? rubbing sound from beneath car has been noted and tires constantly needed air. Other issue(s): 1) ignition extremely hard to turn.2) accelerator seems to stick upon attempting to decelerate by letting up foot pressure. I inherited this car from my deceased father. I was always concerned that he accelerated too quickly from a stopped position. Father took down a large concrete planter due to this type of car jerking, yet i thought it was due to his putting too much pressure upon the accelerator.now that i am driving the car, i note that car does not slow when i let up on the accelerator, leading me to believe that the accident was not due to father's driving. This was never a problem with his former car.3) driver's door makes loud clunk upon opening and closing. Are these known problems?
Driving along and tire blew out. Coil spring put hole in tire per mechanic.new tire,spring,alignment-total bill $439.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while attempting to back out of the driveway, the contact heard air coming out of her front driver's side tire.immediately afterwards, the front driver's side of the vehicle landed onto the ground.the contact examined the vehicle and noticed that the front driver's side shock spring had punctured her tire.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they confirmed the failure.there were no warnings prior to the failure.the vehicle has been repaired.the speed was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 82,000.
Front coil springs went out in january 2008. Car had set for a few days and when attempted to drive car, the car had a flat tire. Upon inspection, the passenger side front coil spring had punctured the tire. The coil springs in the front were replaced and a new tire was bought. In march 2008, the driver's side left coil spring broke and rubbed a ring into the tire. Again, the back coil springs had to be replaced and a new tire bought.
Front coil broke off & cut tire there was a recall on 2000 & 2001 modelsmine is a 2002 mercury sablethe recall was sable suspension front springs coil springs recall -id #25630what is on this recall is what happened to my car ford motor co.said it will not cover this recallit is the same problem as 2000&2001this is a safetyproblem that should be addressed.
When backing my car out of the garage i heard a grinding noise which sounded like the front pads were grinding on the rotor....i tried tapping the brakes to no avail..i drove about 1/4 mile and the noise was continuing...i stopped and noticed the tire was going flat...i chgd the tire and put on my donut spare and drove to work about 4-5 miles...at lunchtime i drove to my tire dealer and was going to have the flat fixed...when they took my donut off they informed me my left-front coil spring broke and had punctured my tire....they said to leave donut on until i could get broken spring broke..they also said to call my mercury dealer because this was such a big problem there was a recall....i called my dealer south hills linc-mer in smcmurray, penna. And gave them my vin #and was told my car didn't qualify...2002 mercury sable ls...i then made an appt with my body shop and paid &532.29 for new springs/struts for the front end....they also told me my left rear spring in presently broke also..
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while driving approximately 30 mph, the front suspension coil spring fractured and punctured the tire.there was no crash or injuries.the contact called aaa and the dealer and was informed of all the defects with her vehicle.there is a nhtsa action id number ea08018 (suspension:front:springs:coil springs), but the investigation is still open.the repair and purchase cost for a new tire is $150 plus the cost of the coil springs.the contact also wrote a complaint letter to the ford manufacturer and was informed to pay for the repair on her own.the failure mileage was 85,741.
I pulled out of a parking space in my 2002 mercury sable, heard a loud bang and got out to look around the car, at the tires and under the car.not seeing anything wrong i continued to drive, heard grinding noises and smelled a burning smell.eventually my front tire went completely flat and i made it home.my husband took the tire off, it was completely cut around the inner side and the coil spring had broken.the mercury dealer said there was a recall but not on my 2002 mercury sable.one auto repair person told me this was a common problem with fords and mercury cars.my husband will try to replace the springs and we now need a new tire and possibly struts.
I am writing the nhtsa in order to warn of a dangerous, potentially fatal, hazardous condition on a mercury automobile. To the best of my knowledge this condition has been addressed by a previous recall notice on earlier year models of the mercury sable but not on the year model that i own. I own a 2002 mercury sable. In february of 2010 i had a flat tire on my driver's rear side when pulling out of a parking lot. When i removed the tire i found that a spring had broken and punctured the side of the tire and had cut the tire in a circular motion causing a rapid expulsion of air. On january 1 of 2011 the driver's side front tire flattened while pulling out of a parking lot. The same thing had happened again. The spring had broken and punctured the side of the tire. After the second occurrence i searched the internet for information to see if others have had similar experiences and found nhtsa campaign id number 04v332000. Campaign id number 04v332000 exactly describes the conditions that i have on my vehicle. However, my vehicle is a 2002 mercury sable and the recall covers 1999-2001 and does not address the rear springs. Were these to occur at highway speeds this may have caused serious injuries or fatalities. This condition has the potential to cause loss of control to the vehicle and needs to be addressed by ford motor company immediately in order to warn the public of this dangerous condition. Expansion of the recall should include the later year models and the rear springs of all vehicles that utilize these springs and engineering design. I purchased this vehicle used at a ford/mercury dealership and have never received a notice, recall or otherwise, concerning this condition.
I am the owner of a 2002 mercury sable.while traveling on the mass pike , there was a grinding noise coming from underneath, and immediately after a burning smell. The drivers side tire blew out. We managed to the get the spare tire on and get to a repair shop. We were told the front coil broke puncturing the tire, and also damaging the sway bar link.therear coil also was also broken and needed to be replaced, at a total cost of $1005.00. When this incident took place the mileage was just over 77,000 miles.this is a very serious problem , that could have resulted in very serious injuries.as a result of this incident, i am not very confident in driving my own car. Both the dealership and ford assured me that this was not part of a recall.
Front left strut coil spring broke and punctured the tire.
The contact owns 2002 mercury sable. The contact was traveling 30 mph when the front right coil spring broke on the vehicle. The failure occurred one year after the front left coil spring broke and punctured the left drivers side tire. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who confirmed that the coil spring was broken. The failure mileage was 75,300 and the current mileage was 75,450.
On 1/21/2010 i discovered that the right driver side spring on my 2002 mercury sable had broke and punctured the nearby tire. Somehow (luckily) this happened while the car was parked. I discovered that there had been a recall for the exact same problem on 1999-01 sables that included the installation of a protective shield to prevent a broken spring from puncturing a tire. This recall was not issued until july 2004, well after my vehicle had been manufactured. Obviously my vehicle had not been equipped with anything to prevent the exact problem that initiated the other recall and as such i cannot understand why my own vehicle would not be also recalled.i am requesting that something be done. This is a very, very serious defect and i am baffled as to how it was overlooked when older model cars were recalled for the same problem.
Front spring broken.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while the vehicle was at a local repair shop for minor maintenance, the mechanic test drove the vehicle and the front coil springs failed.the front passenger side tire blew out.there was no crash and the driver was uninjured.the vehicle was towed back to the repair shop and the mechanic stated that the coil springs were fractured due to corrosion.the vehicle has not been repaired.the mechanic also informed him of nhtsa campaign id number 04v332000 (suspension:front:springs:coil springs).the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall; therefore, they were not liable for the repairs.the dealer has not been notified.the speed was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 68,827.
My father went to move our 2002 mercury sable, which is currently in storage.after climbing in the driver's side he heard a loud "bang"; when he checked the drivers front tire was flat.he jacked up the car to remove the wheel for repair, and found that the spring had broken, cutting the tire.when i spoke to him he mentioned having the same issue with his 2001 sable, which was covered under a recall.it appears ford has not fixed this problem, and wants to sweep it under the rug.i'm just thankful it happened while sitting in a garage, and not when my wife or children were in it.we just stuck a lot of money into a head gasket repair on the engine (a problem i'd heard of others having with this engine), but hadn't heard how many times this had turned up with taurus/sables.this is almost as bad as the toyota's; how many of these are on the road with springs that could break at any time?ford needs to take action to correct this, now.
2002 sable. Left front coil spring broke and punctured the tire when backing out of the garage. I had the local ford garage replace both front springs and install the protective guard kit (used on the re-called vehicles) to prevent tire puncture if it happens again. This car was not re-called and ford did not cover the cost; $400 not including the tire.
While backing out of a parking space, a front spring violently broke damaging the strut also.god only knows what would have happened if this was at highway speeds.
Broken front driver's side coil spring.
Was backing out of the garage and a loud explosion type of noise was heard and the left front drivers side of the car was sitting on the concrete and the left front tire was blown out.i was not even able to drive the car after applying the spare donut. Got the front spring coil and tire repaired for $480.00i called liberty ford (vermilion, ohio) dealership and was told that there was not any recalls.
In february 2010 while leaving our home heading towards highway i noticed the car handling unusual. Pulled off to the side and had a front left flat tire. Had the tire changed it was totally shredded on the inside and was not able to move the car. After inspecting the tire there was a piece of broken coil spring inside the tire. My car now sits in the driveway because of the cost ford wants to repair the problem and if i have it repaired "i can pursue a refund if a recall is made".this has caused now the need to also have to purchase new tires.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while driving approximately 40 mph, the front driver's side tire blew out and caused the vehicle to drift to the side of the road.upon further inspection, he noticed that the front coil spring fractured and punctured a hole through the tire.the manufacturer was unable to assist.the failure and current mileages were 120,000.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions, the contact heard a loud noise outside of the vehicle.suddenly, the tire flattened.the driver attempted to pull over to the side of the road and swerved into a ditch.there were no damages or injuries.the vehicle was removed from the ditch and the driver's side front tire was replaced.the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence.the failure was related to the front driver's side suspension coil spring.the vehicle is in the process of being repaired at the authorized dealer.the failure and current mileages were 95,000.
While backing out of a driveway the front right coil spring fractured and tore a 1foot long hole on the inside wall of the tire.the car was towed to a repair facility, where beside the front right coil spring and tire replacement, i had both front strut assemblies replaced on each side.i have the spring and tire.evidence of corrosion on spring, mileage 101000. I contacted ford and they told me there was no recall and they couldn't do anything about it.i subsequently found out that the 2001s were recalled for the same problem, and the solution was to install a spring shield.ford did not tell me anything about it.i am appalled that the problem was recognized in 01 and was not rectified by 02, andthat i was not told anything about a preventable spring shield on the 01s.why should i have to pay for something or worry about a potentially life threatening situation, for which ford appears to be fully aware of.
Driving 15mph the front driver's side suspension coil (surrounding the strut) broke, it ripped the inside of the tire and severed the brake line.the car was unable to be driven or pushed because part of the coil was caught up inside the tire.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. He heard an unusual noise coming from the vehicle while driving approximately 25 mph, and upon further inspection, he noticed thatthe front driver's side tire was flat. In an attempt to change the defective tire, he heard the same noise a second time. He then noticed that the front driver's side coil spring had fractured and punctured the tire through the sidewall. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the manufacturer was contacted. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 74000 and the current mileage was 74000.
Backing out of my driveway i heard a loud clunk and the car wouldn't move.discovered my left front tire was flat.upon further examination, the spring coil had broken and popped the tire.getting the tire replaced the mechanic told me that the back spring was broken also.
My 2002 mercury sable has broken all four coil springs, both sets in multiple fractures in each spring.although they admit this is frequent (the local dealer service garage said that they had seen hundreds of 02s with this problem, i believe that the 450 or so shown on this site on this site is very far off)the front pair broke around the 50,000 mark, it took about five visits to the dealer to get even limited credit toward replacement.the failure was progressive, sag was only noticed when it got extreme.interestingly they did break in pairs.tire damage occurred when one edge of the spring protruded into the tire.they refused to allow me to keep the spring/strut combo(the struts were leaking from the added abuse and travel)the spring looked to have broken through inclusions in the steel, from my auto industry connections, i found these had been sourced in china, and were hold-overs from the 2001 model.at about the 80,000 mile mark, the rear springs were obviously failed, again multiple crack points, one tire was gouged out by the protruding spring.dealer service again indicated that no help was being issued, despite again in their words hundreds of complaints i still have both the damaged tire and spring/strut combos.again, the fracture surface was marked with inclusions, and voids, corrosion looked to be secondary.i have run into at least five additional owners who have a fracture and were denied any satisfaction from ford.ford zone and regional people underplay the problem as if trying to convince it is rare, yet both times the service people indicate it to be common.this has been very frustrating.there are also unscrupulous repair facilities, one of which initially refused to take my car down from the lift saying it was deadly, while trying to extort over $1,200 to repair same.i had to threaten to call the local police before they would let me have my own car.
Started up my 2002 mercury sable with 140,000 miles on it in the driveway.put the car into reverse.heard an awful noise.got out the car the left front driver's tire was flat.took tire of and found that the driver's side front coil snapped of and gouged the tire.luck this was in the driveway and not on the open road. Noticed on line that there are many complaints about this, but that ford only has a recall for years 1999 to 2001.this doesn't seem right.
Front coil spring of my 2002 mercury sable broke and punctured a hole in the tire.had to replace coil spring, strut, and sway bar links.
3 of 4 springs broke on sable at ahotel in indiana. 2 rear springs and 1 front spring. Vehicle was not moving.repair included 2 tires, 1 rear strut, one front steering bar and all four springsalso required rental vehicle for 1 week, and an additional trip to indianapolis to get the repaired vehicle.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that the front passenger side coil spring fractured and punctured the tire, ruining the brake hose and stabilizer link. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where it was repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current mileage was 95,832 and the failure mileage was 95,554.
My wife entered our 2002 mercury sable wagon to go to work today.as she sat down in the car, the left front tire exploded.when we removed the tire to see what happened, it was apparent that the coil spring in the suspension had broken and a sharp point on the spring punctured the tire.the car was stationary when this occurred, thankfully.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while driving on a residential road at 15 mph, the contact smelled a strange odor.within a second, the front driver's side tire blew out.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence.a private mechanic inspected the vehicle and discovered that the coil spring failed and punctured the front driver's side tire.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current and failure mileages were 112,000.
2002 mercury sable-left front coil spring failed and destroyed the radial tire at that location. Car has approximately 80,000 miles has been carefully maintained. Ford motor co. Says it is not covered under any recall. Car is at the shop for repairs which include replacing both coil springs and replacing damaged tire. Any other damage from this event is yet to be determined. This event took place december 27, 2010 @ approx. 01:00 p.m.
I own a 2002 mercury sable.the right front coil spring broke as i was leaving my driveway on 2/28/07.this resulted in having to replace both front coil springs per technician's recommendation. Also then had to pay for a wheel alignment after spring repair.total bill $418.00.while investigating complaints of this problem i discovered multiple complaints from other owners of same year, make, and model.then found out there was a recall on the springs, for 1999-2001 and then 2003, but not for 2002 models in spite of the large number of complaints. This is a serious safety issue and with so many complaints i wonder why the manufacturer has not recalled.and i am not alone in wondering this.i have to also wonder how many people are out there that had the same problem that have not registered a formal complaint.i am in constant fear that my rear coil springs will break next.i do not feel safe driving my car knowing that at any time these springs could break.springs are just not supposed to break like this on cars so new.my vehicle only had 46,077 miles on it when this occurred.this is quite a shock!please look into this and see about getting a manufacturer recall for springs on the 2002 mercury sable.
2002 mercury sable the front spring broke and punctured the front tire. The spring cracked in half.
Around 7 months ago july,2010 my wife was attempting to back up her 2002 mercury sable and the passenger side front spring broke an went trough the side wall of the tire. Today jan. 2011. I was attempting to back that same car an the driver side spring broke and ruined the tire an busted another part on the steering link. When is something going to be done about this.
Front spring broke on 2002 mercury sable while driving.
Own a 2002 mercury sable sedan and on 2-11-08 had to replace both front coil spring/struts at a cost of aprox. $ 1200. Now on 7-9-08 we will have to replaced both the rear coil/spring assemblies. I know there is a recall up to 2001 for the front. Nothing for 2002.
Right front coil spring broke while car at rest and took out the strut.needed to be towed in for repair.right rear spring broke a few weeks earlier.
Left front &left rear coil spring broke.dealer replaced, gave me a hard time about replacing the tire that was destroyed.i think the other 2 springs should be replaced , and shields put on all 4 wheels in case it happens again.
Spring on front struts broke on both sides, causing tire blowout and potentially dangerous condition.springs were broken at identical points and show partial rust prior to breaking indicating a defective manufacturer of the spring.
Front coil spring broke and blew through front driver's side tire had to have car towed.had to replace broken front coil springs, struts and upper mounts and lower ball joints and the tire anda wheel alignment.thankfully this happened when the car was parked.it was very scarey.
The front driver side coil springs broke while i was backing from parking stall. It ripped a large hole in my brand new tire. When i inspected it, there was rust inside the fracture. I have not taken it to a dealer yet for repairs.
Right front spring broke, puncturing the tire. Thankfully, we were just pulling out of the garage, not driving on the expressway at 70 mph.
Pulling backwards out of the driveway a sudden bang occurred and the front left end of my vehicle dropped.i put the vehicle in park and checked the front left tire and it was completely flat and the bottom of the vehicle was nearly touching the driveway. I jacked it up and took off the tire and the 1st coil of the spring was sheared off and tore the inside sidewall tread with 8" length tear.i also noticed that the sway bar link was destroyed.
The left front spring on my 2002 mercury sable broke on june 12, 2010. The car was in a parking lot at the time of the spring failure. The motor was running, but the transmission was in park. The broken spring punctured the tire. There is approximately 74,000 miles on the car.
This complaint may be relative to nhtsa action number ea08018.this is in regards to my 2002 mercury sable.on 8-27-09 i was driving at a slow speed on a residential street when i heard and felt a loud pop followed by a friction grinding and before i could slow to a stop, my rear tire blew.both rear coil springs had broken with one of the springs piercing a tire.replacement of the rear assemblies and tire cost me approximately $1200.i feel that if i was going at a higher rate of speed, i would have been in a dangerous accident.i was headed to the expressway that day and was glad i never made it to a high rate of speed.today on 1-3-2010, i was backing my car from a garage when i heard the loud pop again followed by the hissing of my right front tire.this time the right front coil spring cracked and pierced my tire.affording to fix this defect is one headache.i am looking at tow and repair fees.worrying when the final coil will break concerns me more, as i drive the highway alot.this defect should be recalled.as of the time of this complaint, my vehicle has yet to be repaired, and i will save the old parts for examination if requested.i do live in a "salt belt state", illinois, but my car is garage kept.it only has 56,000 miles on it.i have owned this vehicle since 2004 and not only has it been garage kept, but never used to haul heavy loads or anything to compromise the coil springs.they just snap and tear up your tires.
On 5-8-08 after pulling out of my driveway, the passenger side front coil spring broke piercing my front tire and causing me to lose control of my vehicle. This occurred on a busy state highway, luckily there was no traffic in the oncoming lane. I understand that this problem was recalled for the same car up to 2001, but does not cover 2002 vehicles.
Mercury sable 2002 with 35,000 miles. While in the parking lot i opened the vehicle, and stepped in. All of a sudden i heard a loud metallic noise, stepped out and inspected the vehicle, nothing was noticed. I started the vehicle and tried to move it in reverse, immediately the front conductor side tire blew up. Further inspection revealed a broken suspension coil in the frontconductor side.
Earlier this year my front spring broke and put a hole in my tire - thank goodness i was not driving - i was just pulling out of my parking place at work. When we took it to the garage to have it fixed they mentioned that my back ones were also broken and needed replaced. The technician told me that this is common in these cars and that i should try to find out about the recall on these parts from ford. I own a 2002 mercury sable.but apparently due to most of the reading i have been doing the recall only went until 2001. But i see that many many people with 2002 & 2003 cars are having the same issue.
As i was beginning to back my car out of my driveway, the left, front suspension coil spring broke, ruptured the tire, and put a 4-8" gash into the back of tire. I had to have the car towed to a dealer for repair. The dealer's recommendation was to replace the coil springs on both sides, as this was the recommendation from a recall of earlier models with the same problem. After the repairs were made, i had to bring the vehicle to a tire dealer for a replacement tire. This also involved having to get an alignment. Fortunately, this incident occurred in my driveway - we were about to leave and would have been on a highway in a matter of minutes. No injuries, but this could have been catastrophic.
While backing-up my 2002 mercury sable, the drivers side front coil spring snapped and punctured the front tire.
A front coil spring broke and punctured my front tire on my 2002 mercury sable. It happened when i was pulling out of a parking spot. I had it towed to a dealership for repairs.
We were pulling out of a parking space, heard a "whoosh" and found the front right tire had deflated. Called aaa to have it pumped up or the spare put on. When the driver attempted to take the tire off, it was stuck. The coil spring had come loose and punctured the tire. The coil was sticking through the tire like a meat hook. We had to cut the rest of the rubber on the tire to release it. We had the vehicle towed and are awaiting the repair estimate. Doing research, it appears this is a long-standing problem on ford vehicles, specifically the mercury sable and taurus. Recalls on 1999-2001 models were not extended beyond those years, despite similar problems. We feel we were very lucky in this instance, as the previous day, we had a 230 mile business trip. It could have been a disaster at 72mph.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. While driving approximately 5 mph the contact stated that it became difficult to control the steering wheel and then noticed the passengers front tire blew out. Left front spring broke and punctured left front tire. Occurred as vehicle was being backed out of driveway at low speed. Vehicle was towed to repair shop. Replaced both front strut springs, both sway bar links, and left front tire at a cost of $570.
I have a 2002 mercury sable. The front springs broke and ruined a tire. I know this is a known defect for ford co. Why is 2001 sable springs covered but not a 2002. I am glad i was in a parking lot going slow instead of 65 mph on the thruway, i might have been killed and my family too. Ford co told me that this year is not covered on their recall. I think it is a big safety issue and they should be forced to correct their defective springs.
Regular driving. Both of the rear suspension coils snapped and the front coils appear to be on their way as well.
The contact owns 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated while driving, she heard a loud noise, and noticed the passenger front tire was flat due to the coil spring which broke in half and punctured the passenger front tire. The failure occurred while driving at a low speed into the driveway. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who replaced the front coil springs, the stabilizer link, and tire. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer would not assist with the repair, because the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v332000 suspension: front: springs: coil springs. Front right coil snapped puncturing the tire and resulted in flat tire and new coilhaving to be put on along with 2 new tires. , 2 new struts it took to fix it. Ford needs to pay me the$742.93 i had to pay. I could have been going 60 on the highway with my kids in the car.
2002 mercury sable.40k miles.front driver's side coil spring failed (broke) while backing car from driveway.spring failure caused rupture of front driver's side tire.spring caused the front wheel to lock up, disabling the vehicle.it was towed to dealership where the damaged tire and all 4 coil springs were replaced as a preventative measure.there did not appear to be any corrosion on the broken coil spring.the paint was intact, there was no evidence of pitting or bubbling, and the steel looked like a clean break.
The kost tire store told me that my right rear spring appeared to have been broken for some time, and the left rear spring had a crack in it, on my '02 sable with 50k milesthey informed me the car was a danger to drive, and that it needed new struts and springs.i returned it to the dealer immediately, and was told there was no known problem with springs on that year sable.the dealer replaced both springs for $350, not covered under the ford extended warranty, and informed me that there was no need to replace the struts.i picked up the car on july 6, and realized there was a further problem because of the loud rumbling going over bumps, and a loud bang when hitting a bump at highway speed.it went back to the dealer july 7, and they determined the struts needed replacing.by then, the car had bounced on the rear tire so much that it had two bulges and also had to be replaced.
I had the front driver side spring break and puncture the front tire.
After accumulating 56,118 miles on my 2002 mercury sable, the left front coil spring fractured, punctured the tire and damaged the sway bar link. A ford dealer replaced both front springs and the link.a firestone dealer replaced the tire.i do not have the old parts.

Tl - the contact owns 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that while leaving a parking space the spring coil broke and punctured the tire. The vehicle was towed into a local shop and its being repaired. The failure and current mileage is 62,000. Pm
The front drivers side coil spring fracutured and caused the plastic stabilizer arm to break. The stabilizer arm then cut into the tire. Ford replaced the coil and arm under my extended coverage plan but refused to change the tire. This happened while pulling out of the driveway in a snow storm and the car was backed into the driveway and towed via a flatbed to the dealer. I am convinced that if it had happened at highway speed the tire would have blown and it would have caused much bigger problems.

I own a 2002 mercury sable gs.i returned to my car in a parking lot to find it had a flat tire.after attempting to inflate the tire with no luck, i started to jack the car up to put the spare on.in this process, i realized that the tire was blown out from the coil spring breaking and puncturing the tire.this was the front driver's side tire and i am very lucky to have not been driving at the time of the incident.i had the car towed and started doing some research because i had never seen anything like this before.i found several recalls for mercury sable's and ford taurus', but none that matched the year of my vehicle.i called ford motor company and a ford dealer and they both confirmed that there was no recall on my car.i ask ford motor company to indicate that i wanted my conversion documented as an official complaint, but i didn't feel like there was anything that would result from this.i had to replace the two front strut assemblies, get two new tires and also new sway bar links that were damaged in the process.i also decided to replace the rear springs (not the shocks) because i could not drive the car again knowing that this could happen.the research i did reported problems with front and rear springs.the grand total for all the repairs needed because of this failure was $1500.i still say i am lucky i was not driving at the time.

While backingmy 2002 mercury sable out of my driveway thefront passenger side coil spring snapped puncturing the tire.the car has been inspected by a ford dealer and i am supposed to call ford customer service tomorrow to try to resolve this. Driving with my family eastbound on the massachusetts turnpike at a speed of approximately 60 miles per hour the front driver's side coil spring exploded with no warning. Luckily we were able to pull over even though as we learned later, the coil spring had exploded downward breaking the axle and slicing the tire repairs were replacement of left front strut spring and axle assembly, top strut mounting assembly, left front tire,we were encouraged by ford dealer service to also replace the right front coil spring! gee i wonder why!!!although we consider ourselves very lucky not to have been seriously hurt by the sudden failure of the front coil spring on our 2002 mercury sable with build date of 2001,and even though ford has been aware of front coil spring failure in northeastern states. Ford when contacted felt there was no problem with sudden failure of the front coil spring on our vehicle. The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.in november of 2008, while driving 10 mph, the rear coil spring failed and punctured one of the rear tires.the vehicle was repaired at a tire dealer.there were no injuries.in march of 2009, the contact believed that he had a flat tire while driving.aaa arrived and inspected the vehicle.the contact was informed that the front coil springs failed and caused the tire to flatten.the dealer stated that there were no recalls for his model vehicle.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was approximately 105,000 and failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
I own a 2002 mercury sable.when my son backed the car out of my driveway, the drivers side front coil spring sheared completely, punctured the tire, ripping it apart around the perimeter of the rim.after putting on the spare, i drove to my dealer, thurby motors in uniontown, pa.since the spare was smaller than the tire profile it did sit high enough for the sharp end of the coil spring to puncture it.i was informed, by ford customer service, that ford had a recall out for model years only up to 2001.even though this was clearly a defective coil spring ford insisted that they were not obligated to pay since it was not part of the 2001 recall.this car was manufactured in august of 2001 but sold as a 2002 model.ford offered to pay for 75% of the cost of new coil springs "out of the goodness of their heart and respect for thurby and customers like myself"this is absolutely outrageous.had that car been on a highway a fatality would surely have occurred.i have photographs of the sheared coil spring, the part of the spring separated, and of the tire.i resent the fact that a huge corrosion can simply dictate to me what they will do when it is so patently obvious that their product is at fault.i deal with specification submittal for quality as a construction manager.i know that mill certificates have to be issued for steel products if they are requested.at the very least ford should pay for all of my damages.if not the government, who else can a consumer turn to when they are obviously being abused by corporate policy?
Right front spring failed without warning causing tire and strut damage while backing up.car towed to nearest repair shop both front springs and struts were replaced. Tire was replaced under warranty. Garage repair man noted that this was a common problem.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while driving between 65-70 mph, the contact heard a loud banging noise.he continued to drive until he heard another loud bang.the tire flattened immediately and he lost control of the vehicle.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and repaired.the contact was informed that there was a recall for the failure; however, his vehicle year was exempt.the mechanic also stated that the spring damaged the sway bar linkage and tire which caused it to flatten.the dealer advised the contact to notify the manufacturer; however, the nhtsa campaign id number 04v332000 (suspension:front:springs:coil springs) recall ended for the 2001 sables.ford also recommended that he have the front springs repaired at his own expense.the failure and current mileages were 112,000.updated 092308 updated 09/26/08.
My husband was driving my 2002 mercury sable at a low rate of speed in our neighborhood when the front coil spring brioke. I was advised by ford that i need to replace the strut and tire.i have about 67,000 miles on my vehicle. I was also informed by ford that this part is not covered under my warranty, and my mechanic found that there are no recalls.my mechanic advised me that he is seeing more and more of this problem.i do not believe that this should have broken because of the serious safety issue.i normally drive on the highway and believe that if i had been driving too or from work, i would have been injured.

Front drivers side spring snapped causing puncture and immediate bursting of tire. This happened when i got into the car, but had not yet pulled out of the garage (i am not that heavy). If this had happened while driving, it would have definitely caused an accident, as the tire popped like a balloon. The tow-truck driver and ford service people informed me this is a common problem for this make/model. If so, a recall should be issued. It is very unsafe and i am worried about the spring on the front passenger side.

Front coil spring broke puncturing a tire.
My 2002 mercury sable suffered a tire blowout caused by the front coil spring breaking and penetrating the drivers side tire. I called ford motor company to report this incident. There was no recall issued for the model year 2002 but there were recalls issued for later model sables for the same problem. The representative from ford told me that they thought the issue was resolved for the 2002 model year and thus there were no recalls for it. When i expressed my concern ,they only offered me to pay a partial amount for the repair. I felt that this was totally unsatisfactory and told the ford rep. That not only should the total repair be paid but that another recall should be issued since the design change did not fix the problem. Luckily the incident occurred while the car was in my driveway. The night before we were on the maine turnpike traveling at 65 miles per hour. Had the spring broke at that point we could have been seriously injured. I told the ford rep. That i was going to file a complaint with the local news media consumer hotline. He told me that i had that right but that he was going to revoke the amount of assistance ford was willing to pay for the repair. I said fine. A life is worth more than the cost of the repair.updated 3/20/08

2002 mercury sable.rear springs and struts sagging causing low/unstable ride and crunching noise.service attendant said condition could be dangerous and is common problem with sable/taurus.
Regular driving. Both of the rear suspension coils snapped and the front coils appear to be on their way as well.
I have a 2002 mercury sable that has only 55,623 miles on it.both of the rear springs broke.the spring on the drivers side broke in a way that it punctured the tire. Thankfully i happened to be backing out of my drive way when i heard the noise of the spring rubbing and not on the highway when the tire was punctured.i think the springs should last longer than 55,000 miles.i contacted my dealer who said this was not covered under any warranty.i was also told by the dealer that many other people have had this same problem.i contacted ford and they will not cover this repair.i think that this could be a very dangerous failure when the spring can break in a way that it pops the tire since people could be driving at highway speeds.ford should be recalling this vehicle and replacing these springs.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.on june 16, 2008, while the vehicle was being aligned, the contact discovered that both rear springs failed.he called the dealer and was informed that the total cost for the repair would be $500.the vehicle needed to be inspected and repaired.the manufacturer stated that there was no recall.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 89,000.
Suspension spring braking.
Had a catastrophic blowout on rear tire.this was caused by the failure of the coil spring on the leftstrut.i was able to get home and my local mechanic replaced both rear struts.the cost was more than a weeks pay.
02 mercury sable has broken rear spring that caused the tire to explode.it is going to cost $450.00 to have repaired plus a new tire. After reading numerous other complaints about the same, i am afraid this may also happen on the front end.the care only has 70,000 miles and there is no sign on rust.
Noise in rear suspension. Strut coil spring broke and rubbed hole in rear tire. Replaced rear struts and replaced tires.
2002 mercury sable with 51,000 miles - took car in for an oil change; dealer informed me that both rear coil springs were broke, almost touching the rear tires. Replaced those but then heard & felt thump in back; dealer said the strut was broke on the right rear & left rear was almost broke. Now both struts are being replaced.told by dealer there were many complaints about the sable front and rear springs but no recall as of yet for the rear.how can that be if so many people are having this problem?can this be researched - there are a lot of people being affected by this.i am a senior with limited income!i could have been in an accident!please help!!!!!
Had normal tire maintenance (rotation), was advised both rear coil springs on my 2002 mercury sable were broken and would need replacement. Mechanic indicated this was a common problem with the 2002 sable and taurus models. With spring replacement, also had to replace the shocks/struts and control bars to the anti sway.total price of repairs was $624.00searching on the internet, found this problem is common among other 2002 sable/taurus owners.
In mid-december 2008 i purchased 4 new tires for my 2002 mercury sable. On december 24, 2008 while driving home i had a catastrophic failure of my rear passenger tire. When the tire was pulled, it was determined that the rear coil spring had broken, puncturing the tire. I found the following on a website:"the office of defects investigation (odi) has received 355 complaints from consumers residing in "salt belt" states that allege front suspension coil spring fracture in the subject vehicles. (note: for purposes of this investigation, the "salt belt" includes connecticut, delaware, the district of columbia, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia and wisconsin).approximately 72% of the complainants allege the broken coil spring punctured the adjacent tire .resulting in loss of inflation pressure. Odi is aware of 3 alleged crashes related to the alleged defect resulting in one person injured.the subject vehicles are substantially similar to those previously investigated by odi (pe02-080 and pe04-044) and recalled by ford (nhtsa recall no. 04v-332).an engineering analysis has been opened to assess the frequency, scope and safety consequences of the alleged defect." i would appreciate it if someone could review this complaint.
The contact owns a2002 mercury sable. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph in the driveway and heard a loud noise outside of the vehicle.he immediately shut the engine off and observed that the rear driver side strut was broken.
While having tires rotated at sam's club, the technician notified me that both rear springs were broken.
My 2002 mercury sable, which has 104000 miles, had a second broken rear spring in less than a year. The first one,at 92000 miles, was not covered by a recall and comprised replacing the rear strut as well, both at my expense, $382. I don't believe a spring should break under normal driving conditions. It looks as if i may have to go the same way this time, as i haven't see a recall on rear springs for this vehicle. Or is there?
Rear springs on a 2002 sable have broken. Nothing is being done by the companies despite numerous complaints.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while the tires were being rotated, the contact was informed that the rear springs had failed and punctured the rear tires.the mechanic stated that this should not have occurred on a vehicle of this year, make, and model.there was a recall for the front springs on the 1999 and 2001 models.the dealer stated that nothing could be done since the vin was not related to the recalls.the contact sent an email to ford motors and was informed that she would hear from them in three days.the rear tires were replaced.the contact has the invoice for the tires.the rear springs have not been replaced.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 83,000. I own a 2002 mercury sable with 58,000 miles on it. The right rear spring broke while the car was parked. The end of the spring was now rubbing the sidewall of the tire which made a loud noise so i didn't drive it. The repair shop estimates $400 for repair. There is a recall on other ford springs, including 2001 sable, but not this car. I think they have a larger problem.
Car not handling properly.brakes squealing. Very poor gas mileage. Car riding lower in back.sounded/felt like i was riding on a flat, tire pressure was down, but not badly (3 lbs).took to mechanic for tuneup.advised rear tire bad with flat spots.purchased tires to be installed.when mechanic pulled tire/wheel to install, noticed rear spring was broken.pulled tire/wheel from other side.it too, was broken.one break was new, the other older as ends were rusted over.there are rub marks and wear on the rubber covering over both springs as well as the coating coming off.i have the broken springs and have taken photos that show brakes and discoloration.two (2) new tires, two (2) rear springs and alignment cost $614.68. I frequently have my grandchildren with me. Either one or both of them could have been severely injured has the pieces come through the seats.

Almost immediately after starting the car today and pulling out into the road, i heard a loud scraping or rubbing sound coming from the right hand passenger side.after examining all four tires for deflation, it was determined by removing the right side rear tire that the spring by that tire had fractured.the fractured end of the spring was gouging a deep trench all the way around the edge of the tire.the spring will need to be replaced and most likely the tire as well.the car has not yet been repaired as of this writing.

I have a 2002 mercury sable with 17000 . I own it since 20000. I noticed that it was a little low in the back. So i thought well it has some miles so the springs and struts were wore out. I bought new ford struts and coils for the rear. I dropped the car off at the shop on 4-17-7. Then i get a call at 7:00 pm saying that both off the coils are broke. So i went to pick the car up, and he said that he had never seen this in 43 years of working on cars. So the mechanic put the springs in a box so i could save them in case of a recall.

I have a 2002 mercury sable i stepped on the accelerator i got my speed up to about 50 mph, i then took my foot off the accelerator but the accelerator was stuck, the speed started climbing by in itself it got up to 70mph.i taped the accelerator a few times to try to get it to release, i also tried to lift pedal with my foot.i had to ride the brakes and that brought me down to about 50 mph, it finally let loose and slowed down.my husband had the same thing happen to him today january 22,2013, he stepped on the brakes to slow the car down as much as possible he then put the car in neutral the engine was revving hehad to shut the car off then turn the key back to the on position so he could steer the car and coast to the side of the road to get out of traffic.

Traveling on highway, preparing to turn left onto a freeway onramp. As i took my foot off the gas pedal, thespeed suddenly increased and the engine revved. I applied the brake, but the engine continued to rev, as the throttle was now stuck. The vehicle continued forward and i had to throw it into park to stop the forward motion. The engine even revved faster and i turned off the ignition and engine stopped. When i re-started the engine, it immediately continued to rev over 4300 rpm as the throttle was stuck. I had the vehicle towed to an automotive repair shop. The mechanic said the throttle control cable had become stuck against the collar shoulder, resulting in the throttle becoming stuck and unable to disengage.update by smch: it was the cruise control cable not the throttle cable

This has caused me much problems as my brother no longer let's me drive my mom's car thinks he's running the show which is quickly changing... Pulled into garage at 2 miles a hour. Speed rapidly changed couldn't stop center pinged the washer and dryer end of them. I'm very sick and unable to go to all my doctors appointments. Thank you mercury!
I was driving on route 31 west in medina ny and the car would not stop i had to put my car in park and my transmission was really grinding.thank god no one was in the area or someone would have been really hurt ?i brought the car to the repair shop and the cause was the cruise control and it was removed.
Car does not slow down when the accelerator is released.

While driving at 35 mph, gas pedal was stuck down to floor, rpm and speedometer controls were at the maximum and the engine revved up.vehicle started to accelerate so i depressed brake pedal slowing the vehicle down enough to shift it into park and shut the vehicle off.a passerby stopped by and taped the cruise control cable back together.

Cruise control cable broke or came loose causing throttle return spring to fall off.i could not stop car no matter how hard i pushed the brake pedal.the engine ran at full speed.the cruise control was not on.i was able to quickly put car in neutral and turn off the engine.i started the engine again and it revved up to full speed immediately.it was very difficult to move the car off the main road without starting the engine.we were fortunate there were no cars in front of us when this happened.we wereabout 50 yards from having to make a sharp left turn to go onto the main highway and traffic.we never would have been able to make the turn without crashing or the car turning over.my wife and i had just picked up two of our dogs at the vet and were returning home.the car was towed to the nearest ford garage in the next town.i believe ford has a bigger problem than they are admitting.the mercury's should be included in their problem.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. While driving 35 mph, the contact noticed that the vehicle had suddenly began to accelerate without warning.

While traveling down the highway, the car accelerated without explanation or warning.brakes were not able to slow the vehicle to a controllable level.brakes overheated from constant application.the car plowed over a parking barrier and through the grass before running a stop sign and stop light.only way to stop the car was to throw it into park which caused the engine to rev and smoke.given the level of traffic and time of day, the probability of an accident (possibly fatal) was extremely high.car had to be towed to the repair garage but we do not have the documentation on cause of problem yet.contacted manufacturer regarding covering cost of repair and they refused indicating this specific car is not on recall list, although there are several documented cases of this exact problem on the same make, model & year.

The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.while at a stop light, the vehicle began moving forward while the contact's foot was depressing the brake pedal.the vehicle began to accelerate and was taken to the dealer, but they could not find any failures.the vehicle has been to the dealer approximately three times for the same failure.the contact believes that the brakes may not be the cause of the failure.the vehicle will be taken to the dealer on june 4, 2009 for another diagnosis.the failure mileage was 38,500 and current mileage was 39,000.updated 07/24/09.*lj
While drivingbrakes proceeded to the floor and the vehicle surged forward. As a result, driver had to put the vehicle into neutral. Dealer stated theat battery voltage was low.
Speed control cable cracked and dislodged holding throttle open... Ford had a customer satisfaction program for this.. 13b04. However it was never done, never got any letters and has now expired...ford refuses to pay for a clip and cable(needs now) and since this never was a "recall" per say it is a safety issue. How can i get ford to pay for this?
Driving(in motion) on busy road(city street) near home, accelerated to 45mph, tried to slow down for light, removed foot off gas and car did not slow. Had to slam on brakes in order to avoid car stopped at light. Took all my strength on brake to keep car stopped. Put in neutral, no change. Put in park no change, still 4000 rpms. Wanted to get vehicle home so i put on flashers drove home while applying brakes.i was scared to death. Should have pulled over and turned car off but wanted to get it home so i could avoid a tow. I am pretty handy and am doing research in order to fix myself.popped the hood at home and immediately saw that the cable going to the throttle body was broken andhung up on a clip on the linkage cover. Image is of another vehicle with the same exact problem.

While driving vehicle suddenly veered into traffic.driver had to presshard on the brakes to stop the vehicle.dealer had been contacted.

It was discovered that the accelerator cable attached to a clip was stuck in the upright position. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
I put my foot on the brake, and the car accelerated and i was unable to stop causing an accident. This has also happened on several other occassions causing near miss accidents.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle began to accelerate abnormally. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis where the contact was informed that the cruise control cable was broke and caused the vehicle to accelerate. The contact requested the cruise control be disconnected. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the case was under investigation. The failure and the current mileages were 86,000.
Consumer started vehicle and placed gear in "drive".rpms increased to the danger level as the engine raced.consumer had to keep brakes applied so that vehicle would not suddenly accelerate.dealer has reprogrammed computer twice, but problem still occurring.
The cruise control gas cable broke off the holder by the throttle valve, resulting in jamming the throttle valve in open position, the car became out of control as the brakes are not able to slow down the car, only turning off the ignition helped slowing down the car so no brake booster. One very dangerous situation.the design and material are of substandard.i have it documented with pictures.
While i was driving to work, my car suddenly began to accelerate by itself.it was full throttle, and i could not stop it from speeding up.thank god i was entering the highway when this happened, because i could not slow the car down.while on the highway, i held my foot all the way down on the brake, and the car would still not go below 65 mph.without my foot on the brake, it got up to 95 mph and would have kept getting higher.so i drove with my foot on the brake at 65 mph, weaving in and out of traffic.i tried switching into neutral, but this had no effect.i called 911 and they sent a police officer out to follow me.i was driving like this for 10-15 minutes with my life constantly flashing before my eyes.eventually, i was instructed by 911 to turn off the ignition off while in neutral (which i did not know could be done until they told me).if there had been traffic on the highway at any point, i would have gotten into a terrible accident and could have injured/killed myself and others.it was a very traumatic experience, and i am extremely shaken up.according to the auto shop that is working on my car, the incident occurred because the cable that runs from the cruise control to the throttle body broke.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that the vehicle would sporadically accelerate independently. The contact was able to apply the brakes to stop the vehicle from accelerating further. The vehicle had not been inspected. The failure and the current mileage was 50,000.
Accelerator stuck. Vehicle accelerated when cruising on highway. Put it in neutral at exit from highway, stuck at 4000 rpm. Problem was accelerator cable. Ferrule broken in engine compartment and outer part of cable hung up on mounting bracket.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that the vehicle was equipped with adjustable pedals that would intermittently become stuck. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000. The vin was unavailable.
While applying the brakes the vehicle accelerated.mercury suggested that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. *sc
While driving 30 mph and upon stopping, consumers foot got stuck between brake and accelerator, almost causing an accident. Manufacturer contacted.
While traveling 5 mph and attemptingavoid a crash consumer depressed brake pedal with force to floorboard resulting in accelerator pedal being depressed at the same time. Thiscaused a crash. Please provide further information.
While driving at 35 mphvehicle hesitated when attempting to accelerate . Consumerwas concerned that she will be rear ended. Vehicle had be repaired ten times, however the problem recurred.
While driving 20 mph vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. Consumer applied the brake pedal and was able to maintain control of the vehicle. It was taken to the dealer for inspection, but mechanic couldnot duplicate the problem.
1) sudden no warning,2) accelerator cable broke, i was in the middle lane of a busy interstate hwy (i-96)during morning rush hour traffic. The vehicle de-accelerated rather quickly. I avoided an otherwise fatal ending by turning into oncoming, right lane traffic, and making it to the shoulder of the road. 3) the dealership was eager to replace the broken cable, at a cost to me of $260.00. Yes i do have the original (broken cable) if you would like to inspect it.thank you.
*sc
I had the cruise control set in my vehicle while i was traveling on the expressway (2002 mercury sable). As i started to approach the vehicle in front of me i pressed on the brake pedal to slow down and disengage the cruise control. My vehicle slow down but when i took my foot off the brake pedal it started to accelerate. I press on the brake pedal again and it slowed down. When i took my foot off it accelerated again. This time i let it accelerate to see when it would level off or maintain a speed. It stopped at the previous cruise setting. I noticed there was no cruise light on. When the cruise control is activated there is a green lighted display saying "cruise" on the instrument panel. There was no light and the cruise was still engaged. I put my foot under the accelerator pedal and lifted the pedal to try and slow the vehicle and that did not stop disengage it. My next thought was to put the vehicle in neutral and coast onto the shoulder of the road. Before i did that i stompped on the accelerator pedal about 3 times and that finally disengaged what ever was stuck.i took the vehicle into the mercury (sesi lincoln-mercury in ypsilanti,mi.) dealership where i purchased the vehicle. They inspected it and could find no problem. I called ford motor co. Customer service and reported the incident. They said they would look into it. I heard back from them and their response was they could not find where a recall had been issued for this problem so there was nothing they could do. I know ford or any of the auto companies don't voluntarily issue recalls unless it's a major problem, it costs lots of money.whether this is a large or small incident, relating to the number of occurrences, anything that has to do with braking, not braking or acceleration to me is a major major problem.ford breaks it down into dollars and cents.
Heater/defroster fan has failed. This also prevents the a/c from clearing the windshield of condensation.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, there was a large puddle of water in the vehicle causing the interior and floor to be soaked. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was a leak in the windshield. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
I haven't had my 2002 mercury sable for more than a year a the heater just suddenly went out! i have no idea why but i heard that there was a recall on these thing is that true i m still paying on this car also!
We have a lot of humidity here where i live, and i needed to use the defrost mode on my 2002 mercury sable with 41k miles, but i wasn't able to get warm air to come out.i tried a few different days before i reported it to my dealer for service.when i took it in, the mechanic replaced the thermostat and gasket and the blend air door motor.it cost me $237.i tried it the next morning--no defrost.they had to order another motor.
Dt: the contact stated defrosted blower motormalfunctioned. While driving the blower stopped working and will not work to defrost thewindows. The vehicle was takento a certified dealership for inspection twice. However, no repairs were made by the dealer because of the excessive cost. She made one temporary repair.currently, she ordered the part and was waiting for its arrival so she couldrepair the problem herself.
Dt:the contact states water wentinto the blower motor from the windshield andcaused the blower motor to rust.as a result of the rust, the defroster no longer worked.it was not repaired under warranty because it was caused by water damage.
Got caught in a rain/sleet/ice storm while on a trip. The defroster blower motor quit, causing the windshield to ice up before we could get off the highway. A real white-knuckle experience!
Cowl of windshield leaking alot of water in front passanger side. About three months ago blower motor stopped working leading to visibility problems, fogging windows and inability to drive safely also loss of heat in very cold weather.
Faulty heater blower motor.control resistor burnt out.
The air blend door on my 2002 mercury sable broke for the third time this week.it is my understanding that this happens to many ford customers.this time when it broke, the hvac system was stuck on heating.however, it can also become stuck in a/c mode which would present a problem in the winter if attempting to defog or defrost the windshield.my dealer fixed the defective part the last two times, and i'm sure they'll fix it again.
While driving to work on one of the first "cold" days this fall, my wife had the right rear window implode into the back seat. There was no apparent projectile, no forewarning other than a light crackling noise before the glass rained into the car.
The left rear window suddenly imploded into the car, shattering into several hundred small pieces. There was no rock or other projectile. The temperature contrast between inside and outside was not great.
2002 mercury sable water leaks into the passenger side compartment of vehicle. The heater blower motor gets water and has to be replaced. Botor works on and off. Reference complaint # 101840014. Also ford related recall 03v087000.
*sc

I found on your siterecall #03v087000 concerning the windshields in the 2002 mercury sables. I am having the same problem on my 2002 sable so i called ford and talked to them about the recall and they searched by my vin #[xxx] and was told that my vehicle was not one of the vehicles recalled on that problem. My windshield has a lot of air noise coming in while driving and it leaks and at freeway speeds the windshield buzzes and vibrates. I did not own the car when this recall was issued but i can't help but wonder if more of them should of been on the recall list. There has been no accidents or injuries with my problem but i just wanted to make nhtsa aware of the problem incase other people have the same problem as me and their sables was not on the recall list. Thank you, [xxx]. Updated 07/24/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
I own a 2002 mercury sable station wagon, purchased in jan. 2002.in early march,2003, i received a safety recall notice (compliance recall #03c03) from mercury. I contacted my local mercury dealer, took my car in and the dealer took information from the car and told me that they would contact me when the replacement parts came in. We restricted use of our new car due to safety concerns, until it was safe to drive.today is july 14, 2003, and the replacement parts have still not arrived at our dealers, four months later.we have not had full use of our new car for four months because the replacement parts are not available (windshield parts).all attempts to contact mercury have been in vain.can somebody help us?
Consumer received recall 03v087000 concerning windshield mounting. The vehicle has severe noise from the windows.also the windows squeak and rattleseverely. The recalldid not cover consumer's vehicle due to vin.
Water leaked through windshield cowl onto the passenger floor board and causing blower fan motor to short out.ford admits this manufacturing defect in tsb 04-15-3.has caused me respiratory issues due to build up of mold in dash and carpeting.
Consumer contacted the dealership several times to have the windshield recall 03v087000repairs performed.but the parts were not available.dealership told consumer that they were puttingconsumer on a waiting list, and will contact her when the parts were available. The dealership never called. It had been a year.

Dt:consumer stated the windshield leaked, which, in turn, blew outair conditioner blower motor.the leak started at approximately 45,000 miles.ford sent the department of transportation a letter stating that this would happen , and the dealers should contact the consumer, she found that information online.vehicle was purchased used, and the dealer never disclosed this information.when the leak started she did contact the dealership and manufacturer, and they told her there was nothing they could do.the windshield leakedwheneverit rained.the problemwas the mounting brackets according to the letter online. Consumer still had the blower motor to show the water damage.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable.three of the steel wheels have developed cracks. This conditions causes the tires to lose air pressure.a technician from the dealer confirmed the failure, but referred him to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The current mileage was approximately 98,000. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The contact owns a 2002 mercury sable. While driving in reverse. The front passenger spring and strut fractured. The contact mentioned that the front passenger wheel was damaged due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician verified the failure of the front passenger spring and strut. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112,867.
