When drivingmyvehicle a clicking under the dash will occur, at the same time my seat belt light will come on and go off, when it goes off i lose my power steering, power brakes, windshield wipers, stereo and window opener.the oddest thing is everything is fully restored when in neutral or park.

The most recent problems are electrical in nature. First, all of the passenger power windows have failed. They can only be controlled by the driver side panel. Second, even though all of the doors are securely closed, the interior dome light will remain on between 20 seconds and several hours. There were occasions when the light would come on by itself while i was driving down the highway to work. An audible clicking noise could be heard from under the dash. The click is similar to the sound made when manually operating the switch. Third, this started on sunday, 01/19/03, the headlights will turn on and off by themselves while the vehicle is off and the headlight switch is off. Additionally, with the car running and the daytime lights only, the highbeam indicator came on. When i turned the headlights on, the indicator went off. When i turned the headlights off, the highbeam indicator came back on. The highbeam indicator eventually turned off on its own within 5 or 10 minutes. Previous problems have included front end suspension related failures and an oil pan that sprung a leak in december 2001 at around 78k miles. The oil pan sprung another leak in december 2002. The service dealer attributed the leak to the same problem and another failure with the oil pressure switch. I agreed to the oil pressure switch repair and told them that if the oil pan gasket failed a 2nd time (original cause of leak in 2001), that it was due to poor repair work. They tightened the bolts to the oil pan. The winter weather has hampered my efforts to check for the leak. Although i no longer smell burning oil.

The fire in my 1997 mercury sable station wagon started while sitting in my driveway. It had been parked for about 11hours before the fire started about 1:30 am . The right rear section showed the most damage but the entire interior was destroyed. The gas tank was full but did not explode. The cause of the fire is unknown. The insurance company declared the car a total loss.

While drivingtransmission completely malfunctioned, cause unknown.also tachometer needle registering too high, smoke coming from under the hood, and oil smell.

Vehecle was parked in an enclosed garage.fire/smoldering detected at about 0130.fire department responded and put the fire out.insurance company declared the car a total lost.vehicle was picked up by the insuance company, however we do have a video showing the damage.

I should have learned that sable was a bad car after the engine of my mother's '87 sable exploded, caught fire and busted through the floor of the car beside the gas pedal and brake (1993).luckily she was not in the car.the engine had been off and sitting in park for five minutes when this happened. I bought my 97 sable in 2001.i have never had a car with so many constant problems.i spend about $1200 a year fixing it continually.i'm currently having electrical problems with the radio going out while in reverse or when i press the brake. The window on the passenger side won't move up or down unless the driver and the passenger press the buttons at the same time. The interior light stays on, so we have to unplug the fuse to get it to go off.the seat belt safety light and the window button lights keep clicking on and off.once again, the steering wheel is hard to turn even though the power steering fluid is at the right level.i have to get the wheels aligned several times a year.the car always makes a humming noise and does not block out the sound of wind.the shoulder straps of seat belts alway lock into place too tight.name the problem... I've probably been through it.i will never buy another ford/ mercury again even if it is the #1 selling car.

At about 100,000 easy highway miles, we had to replace the torque converter, then the entire transmission, plus for the last two years minor engine repairs to the tune of about $350 every other month, the window won't go down anymore, and now--4 months after the transmission replacement--we have lost overdrive and the engine light is on, again! we have never had a car with this many problems, and will never buy a ford/mercury anything again. Our suburban was more reliable.*nlm

The rear windshield suddenly shaterred while driving on a freeway! there was nothing that hit the car. The manufacturer refused to take care of this problem as the car was out of the warranty (mileage). The second problem regarding the radiator clamp occurred within 12 hours of my purchasing the car. Suddenly fumes came out of the engine with the 'low coolent' sign. Had to toe the car to the dealership who fixed it by putting a new clamp on the hose. The third complaint was noticed within 2-3 months of buying the car. The dealership fixed the problem by changing the malfunctioning switch. Never received any apologies from the company for the manufacturing defects. I don't know what is more to come....

The heater core went out 2 weeks after purchase in november.it went out again in may. And again in october. And it is leaking again today 12-15-98.

Consumer stated had to flush radiator out at least five times because of dirty water, it is written in owner's manual that the radiator should be flushed 1 time every 100,000 miles.while flushing the radiator, water got into the transmission and the transmission had to be replaced several times. I purchased a 1997 mercury sable in july 1977 from don jackson spartan lincoln mercury dealer.i have had continuous trouble with the transmission, the brakes, the "plastic" bucket holding reserve antifreeze (cracked and leaked antifreeze)and now the windshield wipers work when they want to work (intermittently and steadily).when i contacted don jackson lincoln-mercury at those times when the parts acted up to ask them if there had been any recalls or problems (and i cited each area each time i called), i was told there were no problems reported in any of these areas with the 97 sable.i found there on the internet that there are many.i have paid $2000 for the transmission repair, $550 for brakes, $80 for the antifreeze bucket, and went to purchase a wiper motor($85)when i was told by the auto store clerk to check the internet, which i am now doing.i find that jackson spartan l/m dealer has not been honest with me and i was not notified by don jackson spartan l/m of these fallacies.what can i do?

My husband and i own a 1993 mercury sable wagon.we purchased it used 3 years ago.it currently has 44,000 miles on it.at approximately. 43,000 miles ( a month ago) it blew the head gasket. I am aware that ford extended the warranty on 1994-1996 models of the ford taurus and mercury sable for this same problem.my ford dealer stated to us that this head gasket blowing has been a consistent problem on the 3.8 engines, which ours has.it would seem to me that ford is very aware of this problem and chose to do nothing about it for owners of 1993 cars.i feel is was their responsibility to help these customers financially--we just spent $1700 for this repair. Needless to say, it was money we didn't have. Why hasn't this problem been addressed with the 1993 models with the 3.8 engine before this?ford suggested that i address this with your agency.

The contact owns a 1997 mercury sable.in cold weather, the driver's side door will shut, but not latch until the vehicle is driven 3-4 miles with the heater on full blast.the failure has occurred for the past two winters.the dealer stated that it was the contact's responsibility.when the driver's side door is shut, one of the trim panels detaches from the interior door panel due to deterioration of the plastic attachments (christmas tree).he was informed not to worry about the failure because it was not harmful.the rear driver's side door does not latch because the plastic mechanism does not work properly.the contact has to manually work the door handle to reactivate the latch.the dealer stated that this was not an issue, and that the door needed to be taken apart and relubricated at his expense.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 95,000 and failure mileage was 94,000. I own a 1997 mecury sable. On 06/07/05 i was traveling in mi on highway 96 east between grand rapids and lansing. While cruising along at 70 mph, the hood on my car released, and smashed into my windshield causing damage to the windshield, hood, and roof of the car. Apparently the safety catch failed, which in turn caused the damage. I spoke with ford motor, who explained to me that because my vehicle was out of warranty, they would not cover the damage. I believe ford to be liable becasue this is not a maintenance issue. The safety catch by design is intended to prevent these types of accidents, and it should never fail.

Vehicle will accelerate without foot pressing the throttle.speedometer doesn't registerspeed, vehicle's speed was increasing. Dealer will be replacing speed control chip forsixth time. Also, consumer haschecked to see ifcruise control did not engage. Dealer has duplicated the problem. Please provide more information.

While drivingtransmission completely malfunctioned, cause unknown.also tachometer needle registering too high, smoke coming from under the hood, and oil smell.

Speedometer would momentarily operate erratically. Needle would jump back and forth while driving, sometimes it operated normally. Dealer was not contacted at this time. Consumer adds accelerator possibly contributed to erratic operation of the speedometer.

Vehicle is revving while engine is running.mph does not move, but rpms go up, possibly due to bands within transmission that are slipping. Please provide further information.

From the day i purchased my brand new 1997 mercury sable i have had transmission problems.the dealership replaced the trans at approx 31,600 miles.now the cooler line is leaking extremely bad.i am unable to drive it and need to have it towed to the dealer.the vehicle has 49,000 miles so 18,000 miles after the transmission was replaced, again i am having transmission problems.please advise.

Transmission fails pulling out in traffic, when i bought the car they denied it until i mademanager drive w/me they rebuilt it free, after fighting with them, i did not have the car a week. They rebuilt it, 1 yr later happened again, said cannot find anything, took it to another dealer, said they always have problems with transmission in these due to the torque converter too strong for the transmission. They know they made a mistake.oil is black, they know something is wrong but they are not going to recall because they would have to recall the car.

Bought the car in aug 1999-brought the car back in sept 1999 for the transmission. Shifting very hard into gear. Dealership had car for aweek or so claimed to have fixed the problem. Problem has been re-occuring for over 3 monthe brought back into dealer. Had car another week and said they found nothing wrong. That they ajusted the idol ( has been stalling as well) and did a few other minor things.. Not only did they not fix the problem but it's now worse then before.. .. What do i do ... I have only had the car for a little over a year and am having repeated trouble with this problem? should i have to pay to have a new transmission put in seeing how the problem has been occuring since i bought the car .. I don't feel that is right..... Any information you can provide is greatly appericated.thank you...

Transmission does not engage into gears easily and is delayed on occasions, unable to rectify problem after several repair attempts. Mjs

Transmission shifts hard during deceleration/acceleration, particulary in stop and go traffic. Turning to the right results in growling noise from under hood. Interior lights stay on as does door ajar light and warning chime for leaving keys in ignition.

Transmission case had 6" crack , differential joint disintergrated, and fluid leaked on to catalytic converter that could have caused a fire.

Consumer stated had to flush radiator out at least five times because of dirty water, it is written in owner's manual that the radiator should be flushed 1 time every 100,000 miles.while flushing the radiator, water got into the transmission and the transmission had to be replaced several times. Consumer states that ever since recall 98823 was completed on vehicle, radiator has constantly needed flushed, now causing problems with the transmission.consumer heard a noise in the front wheel area, dealer replaced right front wheel bearing.

Transmission blew apart.crack in case may have occurred first, causing internal problems (still had fluid) or transmission blowing apart may have caused crack in case (per repairman).

Vehicle slow to up shift. While driving at any speed vehicle suddenly dropped to lowest gear would not go over 23 mph. Loud roaring! after placing in park; putting into drive transmission slams into first gear, but will not change into higher gear.

When the vehicle is put in drive the vehicle takes off in reverse. The dealer has been notified.

Intermittently while driving at any speed there was a clicking sound coming from the steering column.when this occurred thepower steering/power windows and absfailed to work properly.(automatic position lever module)the radio had gone on and off as well. *sc

When on a incline, the vehicle slipped out of drive to reverse gear. This caused the vehicle to roll back resulting in damage to the vehicle. The dealer replaced the transmission shifter cable.

While driving about 65 mph the vehicle stalled.the consumer restarted the vehicle but it would not shift.*nlm

Without any indication of approaching failure, the transmission failed on me. The car from parked position could be backed in reverse gear to the street, but would not go forward in "d" it does go forward, but takes up too much engine rpm - slippage?- to pick up speed. Then you can switch gears to 2nd and 3rd (d with overdrive off) and 4th (with od engaged) gear. I haven't risked topping 45 mph in my test run. Apparently there is some problem with transmission that does not allow it to move forward when put in "d" and seems like taking too much rpm to pick up load when gears are changed manually. I have browsed through this web site for complaints launched by other '97 sable owners, but i could not find any one with similar problem.

About a year back i had transmission problem on my sable at 70,000 miles. It would move in reverse but no forward motion. The vehicle was towed and the transmission was rebuilt at cottman transmission at the cost of over $2000 and loss of vehicle use for a week. A month later, it failed with exactly similar symptoms. It was towed to the same facility and repaired under warranty in four days. Six months later, and exactly a month after the warranty on repair work expired (74,000 miles), the transmission started to visibly down shift while driving (at all speeds). Took it back to repair facility - was told it's internal transmission problems - once again! i just can't believe this. I can't afford to waste 4,000 on transmission jobs on this car when it's not even worth that much. I scanned through the other complaints and found some other instances when this transmission had given problems to owners. Just wondering how many dissatisfied owners would it take for ford to realize that there is a "real" problem with their sable/mercury transmissions! i had two ford taurus's in the past, and this is third from ford family. I am going to stop spending money on ford cars if this is the level of quality that i get for my money.

On my 1997 mercury sable the passenger seat belt constantly jams and takes forever to disengage. I am guessing the jam is somewhere between the interior and exterior of the plastic of the car. Where the seat belt locks the belt in place near the door. Any questions please call me.

The seat belt always locks up on the passenger side front. It's a safety issue because the belt always jams and mercury dealership won't do a thing since its no longer under warranty unless you got $200.00. I heard ford had similar problems on their other ford/mercury products, which my car isn't under recall. On the engine light matter. If you forget to put on the gas cap or raditior cap on or something very minor. The engine light will come on. I noticed this will happen also with my dad's taurus also. I have heard this happens to all 1995 or newer cars. Thing is most people see the engine light on and go right to the mechanic which can be costly in repairs if really the repair is not necessary because its something minor like a gas cap not tightened. Maybe the auto company's found a new way to rip us off? what do u think?

Constantly having to service brakes on my 1997 mercury sable. I have had brake calipers seize up to the point the wheel was too hot to touch and i currently have brake lines rusted out for the second time in about 2 years this is simply unacceptable for such an expensive luxury model and from a safety point of view it is unacceptable to put anything in the way of brake lines that will leak rust or otherwise fail prematurely.

I have read dozens of examples of the same problem posted on this site.it appears that mercury needs to make a recall.about 6 months ago my brake pedal released the pressure i had on it and went all the way to the floor.i took it into the brake shop and had my hoses, calipers, and break lines all completely replaced.within 6 months, the exact same thing has happened again.i do not have $500 to spend every six months on a car that is supposed to be reliable and dependable.this is unacceptable.

I have had 5 occurrences of engine surging when slowing down to a light or stop sign and applying the brakes.the surge is so strong that the brakes must be repeatedly pressed down hard to stop and held down to their maximum capability.in 3 of the 5 occurrences in heavy traffic, rear end collisions were avoided by mere inches.

Wife was just returning with neighbor, whom she had just dropped off, when she was turning into our driveway. She stepped on the brakes & the pedal went all the way to the floor & the brake system light came on. When i came home, it was obvious what had happened as there was brake fluid all over the driveway. I had car towed the next morning to hammonasset ford, mercury, lincoln dealership inmadison, ct. After inspecting the car today the dealer service dept. Informed me that the metal brake lines from the front to the rear of the car had rusted through, causing the loss of brakes.fortunately the incident occurred in a driveway and there are no injuries. If this had happened while driving at 65 on an interstate highway, the resulting no brakes due to this defect in the brake fluid lines could have been fatal. If sables & tauruses are prone to rust through of brake lines, i believe the cars should be recalled & the brake lines replaced.

When driving in wet conditions and making a right hand turn from a stopped position, power steering is lost and engine power is reduced.also, dashboard warning lights illuminate.this loss of power and steering while entering traffic is alarming!it is obvious that the belt is slippling due to the moisture being sprayed up from the passenger side wheel well.i have inspected the belt and it is in fine condition.there is no manual adjustment for the belt tensioner (spring loaded).this problem started at 24,000 miles.i have searched the internet and have seen another similar complaint.i belive that this problem must be reviewed before someone loses steering while entering traffic and is killed!i realize that replacing the belt may make the problem go away, however, this is an obviou.

Consumer has hadtie rods changed because they were broken, this causedsteering and brake problems. Has not contacted dealer yet.

While driving inner tie rod broke, causing loss of vehicle control, resulting in an collision.please give any further details.

Ball joint and tie-rod replacements needed very frequently (1-2 times a year). On both a 1997 sable wagon and 1999 sable sedan.each vehicle has had several ball joints and tie-rods replaced, some covered by mfg as the frequency was so often.each time we have been told that the ball-joint and/or tie-rod, on one side or the other, needs to be replaced due to "safety" requirements. If this is the case than the frequency has me concerned that if the 'issue" was not caught in time there could be an injury or death.the 1997 sable wagon went in for a starter replacement today 3/16/06 and we were told that the lower outer tie-rod needed to be replaced. This tie-rod was replaced 11k miles ago on 12/3/04 and the car was inspected on 12/5/05.

Hadsteering rack & pinion replaced 1 year ago. Currently, rack & pinion needs replacing again for same problem. Was making noises when ever turning left or right. Would be hard to return it back to original position.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Rack & pinion steering failed -- only 4k miles over warranty -- no financial remedy from ford for this serious safety failure. Customer service at ford claims no ability to help.

While drivingfront coil spring broke, causingfront tire to wear out. Please give any further details.

Car would not move when placed in reverse, when it did move left front tire blew out. When i removed tire, found coil spring had broken and punctured tire. Very thankful it happened in driveway. Other model years are covered by recall, could not find anything for 1997.

Dt: ford mercury sable station wagon 1997.front coil spring broke and went pass the base and made contact with the front driver's side tire.this tire was shredded. Consumer was driving a very slow speed when this happened.ford was recalling the 1999 - 2001models under recall 04s17,this recall does not apply to the1997. Model.

Broken right front coil spring observed while servicing brake system. Severe clunking sound radiated through vehicle for 3-5 days prior to service.

While backing car from garage(slowly) right front coil spring snapped ,stabbing tire , slicing tire 360 drgrees. Vehicle dropped to floor breaking upper bearing on coil spring.looks like a defect in the steel at break and at other locations on coil.had this happened at any speed a sure accident was going to happen.this is a serious flaw that ford says has no recall, thus no recourse for me except never buy another ford.thank you( where are these coils made mexico???)

While driving on interstate 40 to work, vehicle began riding very rough. I could feel every bump in the road. Got to work and discovered vehicle had dropped down all the way on the left rear and most of the way on the right rear. Cause was broken left rear coil spring.

Rear right coil spring snapped while going over a small bump.

While attempting to move my car. I put it in gear and heard a big clunk, the car dropped on the left and i heard my tire blow out. It was the left front coil spring , when it broke the broken spring stabbed my tire. I am sure that if i had been driving down the road, this would have caused quite an accident. Not only was this a big expense for me to fix. I am afraid to drive my car, because i can't help but wonder about the other (right) side and also the back springs. Do you have any suggestions on what i can do to stay safe in my vehicle?please respond.thank you. Sharon kitchen.

Tires out of balance.

While traveling 50mpha tire had blownout, vehiclehit guardrail twice. Front end smashed. Dual air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Driver received 6 broken ribs & some brusies. Vehicle towed to repair shop.

I purchased 8 of these exact tires. 4 for my 1994 ford turuas amd 4 for my mercury sable.previosly on my 1994 three of the original 4 tires i purchased had to be replaced. All within a months time all at around 20,000 miles.the first tire blew the right front tire blew out when my wife was driving the car. A week or so later i noted that the tread was seperating form the left from tire.i contacted michelin regarding this and they said it was the way my wife was driving the car.upon inspection the michelin dealer found a nother tire that was doing the same thing and they replaced them both at no chage to us.last week i noticed that on my sable the left front tire side wall was peeling the same as the others had done on my 1994 ford.i notifed michelin this time they informed me to go directly to the dealer.they were not willing to replace this tire although it had the same deffects as the other two that where replaced earlier this year.at or around 20,000 miles the side walls of tires begins to crack and the tread begins to peal away form the side.it has happen to two different cars that i own.the same tire, two different drivers yet the same defect.i am not convienced that i am the only one having problems with these tires.i have purchased 8 of the same tires and 4 of the 8 have gone bad.three tires showed the same tipe of defect.please look into this as others maybe unaware of the danger these michelin symmetry tires.thank you for your time.

General tires replaced due to failure of two tires (blowouts), weak sidewalls.yh

Paint has peeled and now the metal is rusting around all edges of the hood. No safety defect.

Had car in garage several times over 1 1/2 year for engine light, always code po3o3-misfire cylinder 3, dealer always found something wrong so it seemed, light contined to come on. Finally, at 81,000 driving on highway engine light flashes, lose all power, pull over, coolant blown all over engine, car towed to dealer, find it is blown head gasket, engine damage, need new engine. Told vehicle overheated several times, never once did it overheat while driving it. Find numerous problems with these cars and head gasket problems, aske questions of dealer and ford motor co. Never a straight answer, just "not your car" and "it's not under warranty, we can't help you"now owner must pay 3200 + to replace engine and add coolant bypass system to new engine because of problems with the engine coolant system. Ford motor co. Taking no responsibility at all. Read numerous reports of blown heads, blown engines, coolant problems. Need anwers, please!!!! no one is cooperating at all.

Yes i have a used car and the dash from the heat has rose off or has buckeled up and i have contacted the company well apparently it is obsolete and it is hard to come by so i cant drive without a dash and i cant get one either

Speedometer would momentarily operate erratically. Needle would jump back and forth while driving, sometimes it operated normally. Dealer was not contacted at this time. Consumer adds accelerator possibly contributed to erratic operation of the speedometer.

Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration while driving at sl0w speeds / coming to a stop.

After 5 minutes turned off, returned to car, turned it on and put it into reverse, vehicle then expoded backwards up an embankment and crashed into trees.

Engine throttle sticks at 1200 to 2500 rpm while driving.

I purchased mercury sable in july 1999 as a new vehicle (dealer demo).i experienced first problem about a year ago during two separate weeks and thought no more about it until this month.i left church and went up a slight incline to a stop sign; when i took my foot off the brake and tried to pull out into the traffic, the car began rolling backwards.i braked and looked to be sure i had not somehow put the car in neutral; it was in drive.i again tried to accelerate and the car continued backward, half way down the block.i pushed hard on the accelerator and the car suddenly jerked forward.less than two weeks later, i sat at a red light on flat land and when the light turned green and i touched the gas pedal, it revved up but did not move.i braked, put the car in neutral then back in drive and it jerked forward.when i took it to allan vigil ford on tara boulevard in jonesboro, georgia, the service manager quoted a price of more than $2,500. To repair the transmission.on a car only four years old with less than 70,000 miles!!!!i have read other reports on this make and model and transmission problems.i am not the only one having trouble with ford transmissions.my son in law, joseph kaigler, has a 2001 taurus which he returned after less than a month to have the transmission repaired.please help!short of paying $2,500, is there another remedy i may gain.

Whenever using the cruise control buttons, fingers would get cut. Cruise control have very sharp edges that cut deeply when steering wheel is turned.

Vehicle will rev up. The gas pedal has to be applied in order to stop it. Dealer has seen 3 times and finds no problem.

Nar 04/01/2003. The speed sensor has been replaced 5 times within 6 years.when the speed sensor failed, it caused the speedometer needle to go to zero while the vehicle was still moving.the gears changed randomly and the steering became difficult.

The contact owns a 1997 mercury sable. The contact stated that when braking to a complete stop, the engine rpms would increase abnormally. In addition, the vehicle would slightly pull forward as if it were attempting to accelerate. As the contact was approaching a traffic stop, she crashed into the rear of another vehicle. There were no injuries. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic for diagnosis but the failure was unable to be determined. The mechanic disconnected the cruise control as a precaution and the vehicle functioned properly. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 43,000.

Cruise control would not disengage when braking and vehicle would continue to accelate until switch was turned off. Dealer and the manufacturer were not notified at this time.. Consumer stated when vehicle began to accelerate the speedometer did not move, this has also happened on another occasion, however the cruise control was not engaged at that time, the dealer replaced the sensor assembly, but the problem reoccured.

Whenvehicle was ata stop, itjumped out of gear and accelerated.also, there wasa loud noisethat came fromtransmission. Vehicle has been in the repairshop four times.

On-going / intermittent problem with high surge / engine aceleration. Problem occurs in stop/go traffic at highway speed or at a stop postion. Problem has occurred on five occasions. Dealer notified, and unable to duplicate the problem.

The speed control switch did not work.the consumer called the dealership and the manufacturer regardingrecall #98v028000, 97v097000, 99v12400, and was told they were not valid.*scc

Accelerator sticks in wide open position.appears to be freezing similar to nhtsa 97v074.wife had a near accident at high speed today.

While applying the accelerator pedal it went to the floor and vehicle accelerated uncontrollably.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

Consumer putvehicle into drive, and vehicle accelerated at high speed with accelerator pedal stuck to the floorboard.consumer turned off vehicle.

Whenstepping on gas pedalrpms go up butengine doesn't respond. This happens in the morning and acts intermittently.contacted dealer, and dealerfuel pump needed replacement.

After vehicle has been sitting for a while, and when starting up has to apply extra force to accelerator to get vehicle to move, this happends 1 - 3 times per week.

Intermittently when the vehiclestopped at a light or a stop sign there would be a problemwith resuming driving.the gas pedal will be depressed and the vehicle will not move.after a considerable amount of time the vehicle would respond.dealer has examined the vehicle twice for this problem.

Vehicle idle speed does not return to normal. Engine is racing while the vehicle is stopped. Vehicle does not slow down when the accelerator pedal is released, vehicle continues to run at 30 plus mile per hour without pushing on the accelerator pedal, requiring constant application of the brakes to keep the vehicle from getting out of control. This has happened in various weather, has happened after the vehicle has been driven as much as 100 miles on freeways and after driving as little as 5 miles in the city. Problem was occuring when the vehicle was driven into the crest lincoln mercury dealer service department, dealer stated that diagnostics indicated there is no problem.

While driving about any mph when could let accelerator go andvehiclewill not decelerate. Vehicle was taken to dealer and problem was not diagnosed.a local service station diagnosed problem as a defective idler control and replaced it.

When the brakes are appliedvehicle will suddenly accelerate.dealer has inspected vehicle several times , butproblem reoccurs. Manufacturer has been notified.

The failure of the window motor was not to do with a fuse or window in locked position and remedied itself a few days after problem.nomechanical replacement was needed and there have been no further problems with the passenger window.the driver window is not functioning and in the down position.after exhausting all other options the diagnosis is the motor as being the culprit.

At times, power window is inoperable, consumer states a hit to the center of the door panel causes it to work.

While driving on highway about 65 mph on an open field the sun roof fell in the vehicle over the driver & passenger. Vehicle was taken to dealer & rapaired, dealer said:the cause of breaking was a rock on the road.

Interior lights stay on-shows that doors are not shut when they are-also wiper motor failed.

Windshield wiper blades smears, causing poor visibility.

I own a 1997 mercury sable. The front drivers side windsheild wiper is defective, we have replaced it several times and it continues to be a dangerous problem. Each time it has of course been raining heavily in heavy traffic when it just stops working. We have somehow managed at this point to have no accidents but as i said it continues to do this even after having it replaced.
