The car is a 1992 mercury sable 3.8l v-6 engine with 93,000 miles. The head gaskets need to be replaced. I have been quoted an estimate of $1,000 to fix the problem.i am the second owner of the automobile and it has been well maintained.the car broke down on june 25, 2003 and is currently parked at the mechanic's shop.
Vehicle ran hot, notice no coolant in the radiator on several times, all due to blown gasket,
1st one remove & replace timing cover/pump, housing, replace studs, water pump, renew coolant.cost $1,079.602nd r&r headgaskets/ $1,304.10.i would like for someone to let me know if i could get some of my money back because this was a recall a bad part which i had no knowledge of. Until i had to have it repaired.ford said that i was 9 months to late under warranty.i am the second owner of this car how would i have known that ford had a problm with this kind of car.any type of help would be appreciated.i'm a single mom and i can't afford to have this kind of car repair. I had to use my rent money inorder to get my car out of the shop. I just want somekind of repayment a head gasket is suppose to last the life of the car.it will be just three years this october for me that i have had the car. It's not my problem that they put in bad parts and knew that they needed to be taken care of.but no one wanted to pay the cost so a lot of customers didn't get recall letters inorder to take care of the problem.i'm sure that if anyone that owned this car would have had the repairs done at the cost of the company.why would there be a time limit set on major part like that.so people don't experience the problem until years and that's what happened to me.i just want some kind of response toward this problem. Thank you ms. Patricia reese p.o. Box 59 shirley, ny11967-0059

We have had numerous and extended repairs on this vehicle.the dealertells us that this vehicle is not listed under the recall notices, however, replacements have been made on motor mounts, struts, brackets, as well as other situations.ford corp. Will not assist us.we take excellent care of our vehicles and parts just seem to corrode and fall off.we feel we are entitled to some form of compensation.$4,000 in repairs alone in the past 6 months.prior we have had major brake repairs including seized calipers on both sets and brake booster cable, cooling system failures, head gasket failures, ball joints, springs/coils, struts, etc.i do not understand why this vehicle is not under recall notices, when all indications point to the fact that it is and we are having difficulties in those areas.please assist us in any way possible.we did go through a review process with ford and they are not willing to assist us.the dealer felt they could have given us something towards a new purchase.he also said our only recourse is to go through the legal channels.we are at a point that we have put so much money into the vehicle that our resources are limiting in the purchase of another car.
With out no warning i heard a loud noise and noticed that my temperature gauge was going up.i was on a busy 3 lane highway at quitting time trying to get off a exit to the nearest gas station.i came to an intersection and noticed that there was a tremendous amount of smoke everywhere, smoking up the whole intersection to where no motorist could proceed.i turned off the car and noticed that there was anti-freeze coming out of my exhaust.i had the car taken to my mechanic and was told that i had a blown head gasket.the mechanic infomed me that this year of car has had problems with the engines and the head gaskets.i noticed that my heater was not putting out any heat and my check engine light was coming on.so i decided to research this model and see if there was any warranty or recalls on this type of thing and to my surprise this seems to be an on going problem that ford refuses to do anything about.i bought this car exactly 1yr ago this month from a ford dealer and i feel that this dealer knowing the problems that this car has had should be responsible for selling me a lemon.i'm a single mother with this being my only car and i am looking at $1000.00 to $1500.00 to either replace the motor or fix it.now does ford think that i'm going to buy another motor and take the chance on the same problem happening again.i think that ford needs to be held responsible for this problem.is it going to take someonebeing seriously injured or killed before they will do something.this head gasket blows with no warning and caused tremendous smoke which blocks other motorists view.this is a defect due to ford and ford should be made to pay for there defect not me.i could see if this was a isolated issue but it is not and i'm sure that there are many more people that this has happened to and they have never bothered to report it.someone needs to step in and make ford responsible.

Motor mounts failed after recall repair.
Head gasket failure resulted in repair bill of $1336.18, plus $399.51 for rental car for eightdays (car was at mechanic's from 5/20/01 through 6/13/01, but i was able to borrow a car for two weeks), plus $45 for tow to mechanics shop.my mechanic had warned that car might have to stay in his shop for at least two weeks because of scarcity of parts due to high demand.after hearing that parts were scarce, i decided to do some research on internet and learned that that ford has known about head-gasket failure/vulnerability on all 1988-95 taurus/sables (as well as other ford models) since 1998 (tsb 98-4-9).ford issued a limited recall, the coverage of which included sables, but only 1994-95 model years, even though head gasket problem affects all 1988-95 ford cars with 3.8l v6 engines.my car had only 51,244 miles on it at time that head gasket blew; furthermore, my car has been very well maintained, and i have receipts for all maintenance performed on vehicle from date of purchase.my mechanic also informed me that although the head gasket was replaced, my car is not guaranteed against future head gasket failure.i believe that ford should have issued a full recall, one that covers all 1988-95 ford cars with 3.8l v6 engines ive learned through research that head gaskets are supposed to be a nonmaintenance item and are supposed to last the life of the car (or at least 120,000 miles).
Engine mounts worn.
While driving changed gears vehicle jerked, front end shimmied.arrived home & looked.front mounts broke, knocked out air conditioner. Took to mechanic & told mounts were weak & needed to be replaced all around by attaching them to frame of vehicle.
While driving at about 15 mphengine mounts were loose and caused some shaking. This could cause loss of engine. Consumer felt like she was driving onflat ground, and thattransmission was going bad. The motor mount recall does not include this consumer's area and the consumer paid for the repair.

At 37,000 miles, vehicle began losing coolant. Classic symptoms of head gasket failure. Engine dissembly sawa 1/2 inch section of gasket blown away. Ford regional representative blows off warranty claim by telephone. Fords truly do suck!
There seems to be a problem with fords 3.8 liter v6 head gaskets. Mine personnelly failed at 91,000 mile mark and everyone else i know that owns one has failed around 90,000 miles it seem to me there is a big problem this is a costly repair for something that should not be happening to all of the 3.8 liters can you please look at this problem so we can stop this travesty of justice from accouring any more. Thank you.
Right engine mount was broken.
While driving engine head gasket blewout. Exhast was extensive, a lot of white smoke came out, and vehicle died. Took to dealer, and they repaired it at cost of $1220.71.dealer said it was a factory defect, and they repaired alot of engine head gaskets.
Faulty head gasket cylinder.
Blown engine head gasket.
Transmission failed, costing $2000 in repairs. Now head gasket has failed with estimated repair in excess of $1200. I have not driven this vehicle for 10,000 miles yet. I am now reading about many similar problems with the ford 3.8l engine & drivetrain. I understand that ford has been aware of these problems for at least 10 years & has failed to correct them. I think the whole situation is a disgusting indictment of the lack of caring on ford's part. I will never purchase another ford product & will tell everyone i know about this horrendous situation.
Had to replace the motor mounts, motor mounts broke.tt
The head gasket failed causing the vehicle to backfire when stopping.nlm
I am not a mechanic so here goes. I first was driving and white smoke began blowing out of the muffler. I stopppred the car and had it towed to an auto repair shop.he said i had a blown head gasket which is quit common in the mercury sable.i contacted several mechanics who all said the same thing,it must be a defect in the sable. I had that fixed and because of this my transmission let go and blew a rod.
While driving at 65mph, the motor seized. The car suddenly stopped, making for very interesting comments from drivers in back. A connecting rod went through the oil pan, filling the right lane of the ny thruway with a nice layer of oil. Way to go ford!
Motor mounts failed prior to recall due to deterioration.
Head gasket failed leaking anti-freeze into engine, causing damage to oxygen sensor and radiator. Consumer had head gasket replaced at private garage.
Engine mounts failed.
I bought the mentioned sable a month ago.the car overheated so i took it to my mechanic, who told me it blew a head gasket.i was informed by several other, including my mechanic that this is a very common problem in both tauruses and sables, yet 1992 models were not recalled.according to several people in the repair business, the 3.8 engine has always been a problem.it is apparently common enough that when i was asking for price quotes, the person answering the phone was able to correctly guess my exact car by my description of the problem, and vice versa.therefore, it is awell known problem, which ford doesn't consider.i will proceed with a class-action suit if this is not rectified because ford hasn't recalled this type engine.
Car would run hot. A/c would blow warm air, heater did not warm ,only air. While driving on highway, vehicle overheated, coolant puoring out of overflow bottle. Part of engine cold and part hot. Vehicle towed to ford repair to find out that there was coolant in oil pan and a blown head gasket. There was no oil in waterlike you may find, coolant was pouring into oil pan and not getting in the engine due to this head gasket.

Engine check light had been coming on intermittently for years. Vehicle had been taken to dealer numerous times, problem could not be remedied. While drivng 40 mph there was smoke coming fromtailpipe, and engine was running very rough. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop, a blown headgasket was diagnosed.
Head gasket failed.antifreeze entering entering the cylinders also resulted in damage to the oxygen sensors, necessitating their replacement also.
Head gasket failed in 1999 and not convered by warranty, we changed the entire engine and the new engine failed after 35,000 and still not covered under warranty.it's a disgrace that a major manufacturing company is allowed to sell such inferior products.i would never be allowed to pass this type of junk off as acceptable in my job!now we can't afford to have the car repaired again and i don't know how we are going to get home after being stranded over 1000 miles away from home!!!!
1992 mercury sable with a 3.8l engine had a head gasket failure. This cost me a $2000 loss when i traded it in for a 1998taurus.

Car was running fine all of a sudden i had no heat thought needed a thermostat but dealer said i needed a head gasket that this has been a well known problem on ford 3.8 v6 cars. This car has been maintained by me and the previous owner who is my father a retired ford employee. The car was always taken care of at a dealer. I called ford and was told sorry can't help so now i have a$1600.00 bill to pay. I am in the process of writing a letter toford. Thank you.

Engine motor mount failed.
Head gasket blew out on engine.contacted ford customer service department and was told that even though my vehicle has the exact same problem as all the other 3.8 litre engines with the exact same head gasket defect as all the other 3.8 litre engines that they are willing to repair, due to the year model of my car they will not cover the exact same repair that they are willing to correct for the other seven hundred thousand people who have the same engines in their vehicles.i feel that if there is a defect with their product it is their responsibility to repair the defect.
The motor mounts have failed on my 1992 sable.there was a safety recall that we were not notified of (nhtsa campaign number 98v323000.i contacted the dealer where we purchased the car (heritage lincoln-mercury) and spoke to the service manager.he told me that there were no safety recalls on the car and none on the motor mounts.i then contacted ford via their "800" number and was told about a recall on the throttle cable and one on the emissions.i feel that ford should replace these under the prior recall notice.

2nd owner of vehicle. Confirmed 65,000 miles on vehicle. Ford motor company extended warranty only covers 1994 models. I found this absolutely un-acceptable. The head gasket blew long before it's life expectancy and the coverage mileage.

In talking to several different ford mechanics, there seems to be a common problem with a failure of the head and or head gasket. Every mechanic i talk to new exactly where and what the problem was. There should be a recall on this defect.
I have heard there is a class action suit againest ford on this car. Also wondering if front motor mount failure related to back recall. I noticed many other people having the airbag light problem. Also, many other problems with car - still less than 100,000 miles! thank you, sama meshel

The poor design of the engine gasket as well as the placement of the coolant flow channels in the engine block goes back farther than 1994 and should be covered under recall.additionally, the rotors tend to warp causing a vibration each time the brakes are used.
Engine mounts replaced under recall 92m77 in 1/96. I was advised by ford that one repair is all that is performed.i don't see why they shouldn't repair again as obviously the problem still exists for engine mounts to fail every 4 years.

I am aware of the problems with the ford 3.4 l early head gasket failure, now that it has happened to me.i had to spend over $900 to get the repair done. This has in turn put me and my family into a serious financial situation.i have since learned that there was an extended warranty on many of these engines, but it was for 7 years, leaving my car out of that.however, since it has only 65,000 miles on it, i think ford should rethink their policy. I also have learned that there is a potential for the head gasket to blow again.how can ford be allowed to let this go on and on and on for the owners of these vehicles? sure, you can get it fixed if it is under the warranty, extended or regular, but what about the people who have the failure later and then even again at some point. I think the situation is far worse that ford is admitting, that there are many, many more cars with this problem and that it will continue to be a problem long after the 7 year extended warranty for many of the cars affected.how can i have my 17 year old child go out in the car and get stranded who knows where. We live in an area that can have some long, dark roads. So, even though the car itself may not be a safety hazard due to the head gasket problem, it is a potential safety threat if someone breaks down in a bad area. It could be very dangerous.what is being done about this?? is ford being allowed to cover this up like they did with the tires and lie about how many vehicles are really affected and to what extent?at the expense of all of us who cannot afford to pay for a repair that should not be necessary in the first place.why should i have to be afraid to drive somewhere at night, being a woman, with the risk of breaking down on a dark road somewhere? why should i have to pay for the repair even once, no matter when it happens, especially with 65,000 miles on it. I do not even know if this is the first time for this vehicle to have this problem since i purchased it used.
Head gaskets failed at approx 93000 miles.there have been extended warranties on many ford models with 3.8l engines but not 1992 (yet).i contacted ford and they basically told me there was nothing they were willing to do to help defray the expense ($1300) of replacing the head gaskets even though it is a known problem.

The problem i was having was the inability to shift the car out of "park" in the normal way - start the car, depress the brake and pull the shift lever down.the only way that i could get the car into gear was to pull down on the shift lever while turning the key and then start the engine while in neutral.i discovered, in a conversation with a ford mechanic, that this is a symptom of a failure somewhere in the "brake light" circuit.something as simple as a blown brake light bulb would cause this problem.there was another symptom that was not discussed with the mechanic, as i didn't realize it was related, but could in itself, cause an accident.the cruise control would not disengage by pressing the brake pedal.apparently the de-activation is controlled by a component wired into the brake light circuit.after i got the brake lights working (dirty contacts on the brake light switch), everything was back to normal.the car shifted as it was suppose to and the cruise control again disengaged when the brake pedal was depressed.in my opinion, the interelationship of these components has good potential to be extremely hazardous.it would be easy to inadvertantly put the car in forward gear while intending to put it in reverse when starting it in neutral. The car could roll when starting it in this manner.the failure of the cruise control to disengage gave me the sensation of flooring the car and putting my foot on the brake at the same time.not usually a very good thing to do.that's it.i hope it helps.

In april 1996 windshield wipers would stopped working in rain and ice storms.we had to pull off of the highway many times to try to clean the windows while on a couple different trips.they would stop anywhere on the windshield.in december 1996, fed up took car into the ford dealer.the dealer could not figure out what was wrong and diagnosed the steering column/dash switch assembly and replaced the switch-multi-function/windshield wiper assembly.i left the dealer, was caught in rain and the wipers did not work again.the ford dealer had me return the next week.they still could not find anything wrong.i then was able to find someone who could help some and replaced the wiper motor.this seemed to lessen the problem.however, the wipers still stop where they want to on the windshield.i am hoping that after hearing the news about the 1993 and 1994 mercury sable wiper problem that someone has arrived at a resolution to this problem and, can assist and possibly compensate for my expenses if this was a manufacturer's problem.when i spoke to mercury in february for the latest recall they stated there has not been any reports on the wiper problem.please let me know my next step, if any.thank you, janice l. The motor mounts and transmission mount failed.they broke due to corrosion.ford issued a technical service bulletin (tsb # 92m77) on this problem stating that they would fix this problem only if the mounts were to break and only up until july 31st, 1996 or 60,000 miles/6 years.luckily the failure was caughtin time, otherwise an accident and/or injury would have occurred.i think that if a defective part was installed and a definite outcome was known, there should have been a recall.all northern u.s. States that use road salt were notified of this tsb.i think a failed motor or transmission mountis definitely a serious safety risk.there shouldn't have been a just tsb giving the owner only a certain amount of time before the defective part were to fail.it is almost certain that any prolonged contact with road salt would cause failure.there is no way a motor mount should fail on that new of a car.
The lower left rear subframe completely corroded, and fell off from under the vehicle whilevehicle was parked in the driveway. This vehicle was not included in the recall for subframe corrosion due to vin.please provide any further information.

After 5 visits and almost $1,000, marshall ford west in cleveland, oh finally realized the orignal popping noise was the recall - which i had advised them in the first place.my mechanic told me it was the recall item which was the subframe rear mount bolts.i had taken the car in at least on 5 different occasions, had to lease a car one time, they gave me a rental on the next 2 occasions only after i complained.they advised that if they had had the parts in stock, they would have installed the front mount bolts also.after 1 week, the rear mount bolts began popping again.i need someone to check to see if this work was done correctly.they blamed it on other problems, but this was the problem i originally brought it in for.please advise what i can do at this time.i am very unhappy and the noise just keep popping.

Both coil springs failed due to corrosion.pieces of spring almost fell out and contacted tire.could have resulted in puncture at high speed.dt
The problem is that the speed sensitive steering "oscilates" between low-effort & high-effort when driving through a curve.makes vehicle tricky to control.also exhibits intermittent pulling to either side that has not been eliminated by thorough front-end maintenance.others with like vehicles report same problems.

Both front coil springs broke, springs rubbed into tires on both sides making it hard to steer ruining both tires, surprised that the tires on both sides were not punctured due to the springs. Dealer informed me that fractures in the front coil springs has been a problem for the sable, would have hated to have this happen at a greater speed or i am afraid the results could have been a lot worse than two ruined tires
The contact owns a 1992 mercury sable.while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact heard a loud thumping noise.approximately thirty seconds later, the vehicle shut off.he pushed the vehicle to the side of the road and noticed that the front frame failed.two days later, the vehicle was towed to aaa.a local mechanic arrived a week later and stated that there was wear and tear on the front frame bushing sway bar, which caused the front frame to fail.he notified the manufacturer and they stated that there was a recall for the rear frame, but not the front.the manufacturer would not provide any financial assistance with the repairs and stated that the vehicle was not worth repairing.the vehicle has not been repaired.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 100,000. From what i see on the ford motor car company website they knew their 3.8 liter engines were having this problem.they have never informed me as such and it looks like they may have had a so-called silent recall.after talking to their coustomer relations they gave me no satisfaction whatsoever.they said their recall applies only to 1994 and later models. No recall problem mentione dwithin summary.
Recall related, 97v025, throttle control, contacted dealership on 21 may, said parts are available, in for repair,no parts available.
Vehicle experiencing sudden acceleration.
Sudden acceleration, causing loss of control.

Windshield providing poor visibility while driving under sunny conditions.
Intermittent switch. While traveling on interstate in recent snowstorm, wiper/washer would not work. Same problem twice on another, 1994, vehicle of same type. Dealers acknowledge regular failure/complaints on these switches. Dealer, regional office, and ford customer assistance center refuse to replace switch except at full charge of nearly $200. Sudden loss of visibility due to poor design/defective equipment is a major safety issue!

Windshield wipers do not completely turn off and move to "stowed" position when the control knob is turned off; the blades stay up a little on the windshield.wiper motor continues to make wipers move slightly.this is an intermittent problem.it has happened several times over the past couple of months.i just used today's date as t he date of the incident because it happened again this morning.
Windshield wiper failed.
The windshield wipersbecome inoperable in rainy weather conditions. Also, the motor has been replaced four times which did not remedy the problem.please give any further details.
Rowland.
