My husband and i was driving in traffic from an appointment and all of a sudden the car starts smoking within a quick second the front left side burst into flames, electrical windows wouldn't work and the brakes failed, the we had to ride traffic until we could move over to the curve at this time the emergency brake had to be used in order to stop the car and i had to move myself out on the drivers side.

Intermittently when it is raining there is a total loss of electrical power andengine quits. Vehicle has been seen since by two dealerships. Neither dealership was able to determine what is causing this problem.

I have to date had 4 starters replaced in my 99 mercury mystique 2.5l v6. I have had concurrent idling problems/surging that leads to jerking and stalling. Dash warpage which is now causing a blockage of the venting system causing a defrost problem. Problems when driving in the rain (loss of power steering). All of these issues have been brought to the dealerships/service dept.'s attention. As well i have contacted the fords customer relations center and they will not honor their recalls for my vehicle. Here is what happened the 4th time the starter went out.on november the 20that 7:00am (during rush hour traffic) my car started making a horrible whirring noise behind the steering wheel column.as i was turning left at a busy intersection i can hear the car starting to die from the battery being drained.upon trying to turn the car off the starter would not disengage. Eventually after repeated attempts to turn it off the car died from the battery being drained. The car was towed to 32 ford in batavia, oh. I once again explained to them the symptoms that led up to the problem with the rampant idling/surging and the whirring noise behind the steering column. The same day they called and told me the car was ready for me to pickup and that they had replaced the starter again. I asked once again is there any explanation as to why this is happening. Their response was it was a manufacturer defect. I said 4 times a manufacturer defect?? how is that possible. Something must be causing this problem. I want ford to acknowledge that there is a problem with this make and model and make an attempt to resolve it. I want consumers to know that 32 ford and ford motor company has acted in callous disregard to my request for help in resolving this issue.

I own both a 1998 and 1999 mercury mystique with the 2.5l v6 engine.when traveling through standing water or even in a heavy rainstorm the power steering will fail, the generator failure light will light, and the serpentine belt will whine.this can last from 30 sec to a few minutes, and requires one to stop driving as the car is no longer steerable.i have taken my 1998 to the dealer twice for this and they have replaced the belt and tensioner twice.this has not changed the problem, and the dealer called the manufacturer for help and they had no further information or suggestions.i feel that this is a design flaw for this specific engine which could result in a serious accident if evasive maneuvers were required while driving thru standing water.i note two other similar complaints on your website.ford should design a fix for this important safety issue.

When using the horn consumer has to use extreme pressure for it to blow. Consume sometimes horn will not blow at all. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and dealer told consumercould not determine the cause.

When putting key into the ignitionignition will sometimes turn, and sometimes it will not. Has not contacted dealer.

1999 mercury mystique electrical system failing.corrosion and overcharging over electrical wires.was informed by repair shop that he had seen this problem with another ford contour.electrical wiring harness is not put together properly.

The vehicles electrical wiring burned while driving which caused smoke to emit from under the hood. *nlm

Electrical short ininterior fuse wire panel can cause the an engine fire.

Vehicle stalled at highway speed, taken to dealer 4 times. Replaced a fuse, and said therewas no problem with vehicle. Vehicle has stalled 5 times.

Dashboard inside of vehicle has lifted up and pulled frompanel.also, vehiclecut off without prior warning. Dealershipwas aware of problem.

Dashboard warpage....cannot see well out of windshield. Called mercury/ford customer service and they said they would not honor recall . This is the type of thing that makes you not want to buy that brand of vehicle ever again and i wll not ever buy a mercury again new or used.

I took my 1999 mercury mystique to bob bennet ford with severe warpage of dash.told to contact ford motor's 800 number, did this, person extremely rude, received no help and am afraid dash will completely peel back and cause severe injury to us.feel this is a safety issue and a disaster waiting to happen.can you help?

I was driving along when i could smell my car getting hot, so i pulled over and sure enough it was overheating, but did not show inside on the dashboard, so i had it checked and the plastic housing around the thermostat was cracked in 3 places, so i say fix it ,they said it would be 450.00, ok no problem, then they called back and said that the housing was welded to the manifold and that i would have to replace all for 1200.00 and that the housing wasn't made of plastic anymore because of this problem. I think this should be a recall and fixed for free.

While driving at all speeds, the vehicle will stall, without warning.the consumer is having the ignition module replaced at her on expense, due to a similar problem that other models were experiencing, however consumer is not sure if the stalling problem is due to the faulty part.*scc

The contact owns a 1999 mercury mystique.the contact noticed moisture in the driver's side headlight.in addition, the driver's side tail light dripped water into the trunk when it was opened.she noticed that the moisture was always present, especially after it rained.the vehicle has not been diagnosed.the current mileage is 51,504 and failure mileage was approximately 48,246. Updated 07/07/08.*ljthe passenger side seat belt was inoperable, the timing belt was replaced. Updated

We purchased this vehicle in 2001.we were told that an elderly woman got the accelerator stuck and she ran into a tree.thus, they put a brand new engine in the vehicle.so, we got this great new car with only 1,000 miles on the new engine.we have since replaced the idler pulley three times and the tension pulley once.ford says that they knew that this is a continual problem with these cars once the head has been removed. I can't believe they would risk stranding people instead of taking responsibility for fixing their problem.for example: ford had my car for 2 weeks while i was on vacation.they fixed the idler pulley, the serpentine belt and cover, and the oil pump.that same day i got my car back i was driving home and not even 12 miles from town the car broke down again and it was the exact same problem they had my car in the repair shop for 2 weeks.furthermore, my dash has also peeled back about 3 to 4 inches, and it does obstruct your driving view and also disrupts your defrost.we were never notified of a recall, either by phone or mail, of this problem.when we acquired about it to the ford dealership they said that the recall time limit has expired.

I have not had any of these problems repaired. My mechanic said it would cost more than the car is worth, and even worse, it isn't paid for yet!!!!

Check engine light and abs light came on/off,and vehicle stopped in the middle of traffic.

The contact owns a 1999 mercury mystique.the contact heard a loud grinding noise coming from the front end of the vehicle and felt a vibration while idling.the mechanic stated that the engine mounts needed to be changed.the contact stated that the vehicle would jerk to the right when stopping and jerked to the left when he accelerated.as of july 27, 2007, the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 57,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.updated 02-01-08.the consumer has since traded in the vehicle. Updated

While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled in traffic.the vehicle is currently at the dealer.the mechanic was unable to determine or duplicate the problem.the consumer talked to another consumer who experienced the same problem and the problem was with the module that controlled the computer module (possibly the ignition module) and a flight recorder was added and found the intermittent problem.(the problem hadn't been experience since per the consumer who experienced this same problem, not the consumer of this letter) *sc

My check engine light came on and the diagnostic code says that the catalytic converter was defective, even though it is supposed to be covered by an 8 year 80,000 mile warranty i have been stone walled by earnhardt ford in arizona in getting it fixed. I have already had to replace 4 o2 sensors at my expense in the last 6 months.when my engine light came on the first time i took the car into my mechanic who said the code was for the catalytic converter and that it would be covered by my warranty so i should contact a ford dealer.i called a ford dealer and they said call a mercury dealer, when i called the mercury dealer they said the light had to be on or they wouldn't fix the problem.the light came back on 2 weeks later and i took it to earnhardt mercury in tempe az who checked the light and said that it was the catalytic converter but they hat to reprogram the pcm to confirm the diagnosis and that they couldn't do it at that dealer and shipped my car to earnhardt ford in chandler who said they were to busy to reprogram the pcm and had to keep my car overnight. They then said that i would have to wait until the light comes on again before they would be able to order parts to fix it. So i will have to leave my car with them a 3rd time. So far they still have my car for a 2nd day and i cannot get a call back from the manager of the service dept.

1999 mercury mystique, second owner, purchased is 2005. The gas line freezes when the temperature reaches below 20 degrees. The tank is half full, treated for winter weather and it still freezes. This is not normal: i've owned2 other vehicles (ford tempo/dodge stratus) never happened. I've missed work due to this gas line freeze and am the only resident in my neighborhood that is having this problem. It has to be a manufacture defect or the gas tank is not protected.this is the second winterseason this has happened.

There is a constant gas smell during the winter time.the smell is worse right after filling the car with gasoline and anytime the car is started more than one time such as needed to take care of errands.the smell is so bad at times i am afraid to leave the car close to the house.i have reported this many times and the fuel pump was supposedly checked and the fuel filter replaced at one point.gasoline has leaked at times from behind the passenger side front wheel.this happens during the winter months for the most part.

I had a strap that had rusted underneath my car. A 1999 mercury mystique 2.0, so i took it to the mechanic.he indicated that my gas tank strap rusted through and that the other one was about to fail as well.he told me that this is a definite hazard and could have proved to be dangerous if i did not take care of it. He also said that there should have been a recall regarding this problem.

On monday, august 8th, 2005 in the morning i drove the car to work with my wife in the passenger seat.on our way filled the gas tank at esso station at 7:30 a.m.shortly after driving the car out of the gas station i heard two loud bangs in quick succession followed by a rough sound which sounded like the car was dragging a piece of metal on the road.stopped the car on the shoulder and had the inspiration to look under it.i saw two pieces of what looked like putrid steel straps hanging from under the gas tank and touching the pavement.drove the vehicle to midtown ford, the dealership where i regularly service my car where the vehicle has been accepted for service at 7:50 a.m.i asked the midtown csr nick pulse to take a look at it on the spot to assess the vehicle's condition.nick had a quick visual inspection looking under the car and confirmed that:a.both straps are broken and they appear completely rusted having a paper-like texture.b.the gas tank at that moment was only holding in place on the fuel pipe.c.the vehicle was unsafe for driving.d.it is the first time when he saw anything like this happening to a vehicle he serviced.as a result, midtown ford serviced my vehicle promptly and nick provided high quality professional assistance as always.given the facts presented above i ascertain the following:1.the fuel tank straps broke unexpectedly.2.i had no influence over this event and did not influence it.3.the breaking of the straps endangered my wife''s life and mine.the gas tank was full and could have dropped on the highway causing sudden ignition of the fuel potentially followed by explosion.4.at the moment of purchase i was not informed of any potential problems with the fuel tank straps or with the fuel system.5.i did not receive to date any recall notification from ford canada on the issue of defective fuel tank straps or on the overall fuel system.

I recently bought a 1999 mercury mystique. At 68,900 miles the fuel pump on the car failed. I was in the process of getting it fixed and my mechanic showed me the old fuel pump after he'd removed it from the car. The ground wire was basically fused to the side of the plastic which my mechanic assured me should not be the case. I was told that it could have caused an explosion at any time. I will be lodging a formal complaint with the ford/mercury company as well but i thought that anyone else who owns a car of this type should know about this danger as well.

The vehicle has been inrepair shop several times for auto door locks.from time to time they will lock while the car is not being driven.*sc

Car was parked in motel parking lot.i entered car at 6:55am to move car by our room to pickup bags.i had my foot on brake, started engine and shifted into reverse.the car jumped rearward at a high speed. I had not put my foot on the gas pedal.the car hit a telephone pole (about 8 feet behind were the car was parked).my body went rearward when the car hit the pole.at this time, i had my hand on the shifter (floormount) and it pulled the car into forward gear.the car shot forward and slammed into a brick column directly infront of were i was parked.i tried to turn off ignition and hit the brake but i couldn't effect the forward motion.i saw the car hit the pole and my forehead hit the steering wheel.the airbags did not deploy.i was told at the hospital that you need to be going 35mph or faster for them to deploy.don't know about that.i have never had any accidents before.i know that i did not put my foot on the accelerator when i engaged reverse.i could hear the motor revving higher than normal.i was accelerating when the car was going forward.

(1) start car, drive for 10-20 minutes.(2) every time within 10-20 minutes, "o/d off" blinks.(3) brought to 2 service centers, both put car on computer, said "tcc solenoid" problem, needed new solenoid. I replaced solenoid ($300), drove, failure repeated.

The transmission in my 1999 mercury mystique hass been slipping for 2 years and it finally went out.when i went to have it repaired, i had 2 repair shops tell me they could sell me a new or rebuilt transmission, but they would see me again in a year because of the problems with this car and transmissions.i can't find a recall that's been issued.how can a new car have such poor problems with it's transmission and lincloln mercury not do anything about it?i've tried for two years and no help.

The left front power seat base twists and rocks on its supports.this defect occurred within three months after purchase, the dealer is now installing part #xs2z5461711aa for the third time. I am concerned that if these seat supports fail this easily, how well will they perform in a crash?in addition, if these continually fail, a stronger brace should be installed, not the same part over and over.in reference to my second problem noted, the brakes shuddered within the first month of ownership. (1/99)the dealer cut the rotors and the problem reappeared soon after. Again i returned the vehicle to the dealer, he informed me that the rotors are not covered under the basic new vehicle warranty.my concern is as follows:if the rotors are warped from the date of purchase, shouldn't the dealer replace them?nonetheless, i recently replaced the front rotors and pads at a sts tire store.

Abs system is late. This car stops very quickly on dry pavement and it requires a very long distance to stop on wet or icy conditions. The car feels like it is being pushed during icy conditions. I have returned to my dealer several times. The frount brake pads have been replaced and the hydraulic pressure have been checked. This car does not feel safe! however, the dealer says they do not know what to do. I have compared my car to other of the same year and model which has convinced me that my abs system is not working properly.

If it is possibleto rotate the ignition key to lock position and remove key without shift lever being in park, these vehicles do not comply with requirements of fmvss no. 114 concerning "theft protection." therefore, vehicles that comewith ignitionkey removable in gear positionother than park, will have steering column replaced.dealer stated that this vehicle was includedin the recall, but had to many miles to performrecall repairs.

Power steering is lost when driving thru puddles or wet street. Does not happen all the time. Battery light remains on for short distance and brakes become very noisey. Cannot control car at this point and must stop until power steering comes back. Almost went off road and into bank when turning and this happened. Dealership has not fixed this problem yet, and will be taking the car into the shop today because this problem continues. 9/15/00. It happens during rain, of if puddles are in parking lot.

First incidents occurredseveral times between 9,000and 25,000 miles while pulling into driveway at low speed where there can be standing water when it rains. Power steering failed from belt slippage. On 7-3-2001 while driving on a city street through reasonable curb-side water on a rainy afternoon the power steering failed at n intersection. This is a serious design flaw. The belt pullies are located in such a place that the tires splashing through shallow standing water causes the belts to slip and steering and electrical system to fail (alternator)

The whole entire top dash board has curled and peeled up obstructing defroster from left side to right side and continually gets worse i have heard that this has happened to others and that there might have been a recall on it - it is starting to work its way down toward the steering wheel.

1.dash warp causes visibility problems, defroster malfunction, loose trim.i drove over a seam in the roadway at an overpass (small bump) & the vent trim popped loose.this is simply an aging issue as there was no unusual event.my car is a 1999 mercury mystique, but this issue is also prevalent on the ford 1999 & 2000 contour, and some 1998 models with the newer style dash.2.the trim popped loose from the dash while commuting on i-95 to work.the vent trim came to rest in front of the air bag & on my arms as i drove, but fortunately did not cause an accident.3.the vent trim was placed loosely onto the dash so the defroster would still be usable, but the warped dash prevents it from being properly secured.a new vent trim will not fix this problem.there was an old recall which included a 'repair kit', but it has expired.i would like to see the recall re-instated.

The front dash board came apart, which caused thedefogger vent to be inoperative.

The dashboard was bulging where the vent were located. A recall was issued, however consumer received the recall notice too late and dealer refused to perform repairs.consumer wasunable to see the hood of the vehicle due to the dashboard.

The dashboard is completely separating from the windshield. Cause unknown.

Dashboard is really warped.driver's side of dashboard has curled 3-4 inches upwards.rest of dashboard also curling upwards but not as bad.now visibility is decreased and the windshield defogger takes longer to defrost the windshield.fomoco was notified of the problem and didn't do anything to correct it.even a dealership tried to help, but was denied.

Entire dashboard is lifting, and has started covering the vents for the defroster.

The dashboardreceded from the windshield. Cause unknown. The vent section across the dash curled, therefore the cover would not stay.this caused a reflection on the windshield which caused poor visibility.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who told the consumer about a recall related to this failure.the consumer called the manufacturer and requested a repair kit. *scc*nlm

- the contact stated that the1999 ford mystique's dashboard was falling from the frame of the vehicle.she was afraid that the air bagsmay deploy while driving the vehicle, or the dashboard will fall into her lap while driving. She has contacted the dealership, and they informed her that were not responsible for repairingthedashboard under warranty because the vehicle was out of warranty.the contactfeareddriving the vehicle, and she thought that ford would honor the warranty. She did speak with someone at a chrysler dealership, and they quoted her a price of $2000, the contact stated that thevehicle currently had 29,000 miles.

Dash board warp / curl / delamination causes obstructed visibility.1999 model year contour omitted dash panel component for securing dash cover at windshield.windshield fogs badly in rainy or humid conditions and warped dash cover dislodges vent preventing effective defrost / de-fogging efforts.

The dashboard next to the windshield is curled up so as to obstruct my vision and cause defroster vents to not work properly.the black plastic "vent" is laying there loose and rattling against the inside of my windshield.i am concerned as to whether this will effect my air bag function if i were in an accident.i was told by my dealer that there was a recall, but it had expired, and they couldn't help me unless i wanted to pay about 350-400 dollars for a "kit" to possibly remedy the situation.the problem did not manifest itself until after the recall was over.i feel that ford is well aware of this problem and should take an active role in repairing this damage to my dashboard.the is a safety issue as well as an unsightly nuisance.i hope this helps someone get some relief from ford concerning this issue.*la

I have a 1999 mercury mystique.i replaced my dashboard due to warpage under my one year warranty.i received a recall for the dashboard after the original had been replaced.this past summer my dashboard started to warp again.i contacted hunt ford in la plata md, but was told that there was nothing they could do about it since the warranty had expired.i am currently experiencing an increase in the warping. The portion of the dash that holds the vent is curling outward, and the dash is rising up.i very concerned about how far up the windshield that the dash will rise.i do not feel that a company who issues a recall has the right to end that recall when the problem obviously does not end.thank you for your time and assistance with this complaint.

Heaterdid not work properly. Vehicle was taken to dealer, and the blower switch was replaced.also, consumer heard a loud squealing soundwhen depressing the brakes.rotors were replaced on both sides of the vehicle.the dashboard began to rise up from the dashboard mount.dealer had notyet resolvedthe dashboard problem.manufacturer would be informed of the myriad of problemsconsumer was having.

The contact owns a 1999 mercury mystique.the entire length of theinstrument control panels surface began developed cracks and warps. A plastic piece from the panel, that was 5 inches in height blocks the windshield.the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction.the contact commented the failure was related to the ford contour dashboard defect. The failure mileage was 80,000.the current mileage was 112,000.

My 1999 mercury mystiques dash board has completely warped. It has rendered the defroster useless. I was not informed of any recall for the defect. I now understand that the lincoln/mercury company did acknowledge a defect in the dashboards. What remedy can i expect ?

I believe it's a shame that manufacturers can sell cars with glued dashboards that require the removal of the windshield to repair the dashboard.this is a 1999 mercury mystique, the dashboard material came loose and squeezed the defrost diverter plastic up and off the dashboard, therefore making it difficult to use the defroster.

Consumer noticed that the dashboard wasloose and moving upward. This caused poor visibility to the driver. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanicdetermined that the dashboard needed to be replaced. Dash board came loose vent sticking up covering drivers windshield/view.the dash board is preventing the defroster from working.vehicle was recalled for this issue but the consumer was not notified.now they only will fix the problem at the consumers expense. Recall did not deal witht he subject of the incident. *tc

While driving at any speeddriver's visibility was blocked becausethe dashboard was pulled from the panel. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.

Consumer noticed that instrument panel was separating from the front windshield. Dealership will be notified of the problem.

Dashboard is separating fromstructure and raising upwards in front of the windshield. As a result, defroster isnot functioning properly, and windows are not being cleared.

The dashboardcracked after being replaced once.the first replacement was done under warranty. Manufacturer stated that the warrantyexpired.the crack was all the way across, and the vents were affected.

There isa leak on the inside of the vehicle that causesdriver's side compartment andpassenger's side compartment floors to be wet. Dealer has been contacted.

The vehicle was rear ended while at a stop light by an 18-wheeler truck.the most obvious problem is that the bumper is so rounded that the truck's fender rode up on the bumper and did most of the damage to the trunk/tail light area.i bring this to your attention because i do not believe anyone has looked into the problem of large rounded (plastic) bumpers and their ability to absorb impact.unless hit exactly in the middle, the other bumper will either ride up or below the rounded bumper causing much more extensive damage.this is much more serious than testing previously done with bumpers hitting a flat wall or a post sticking out of the ground.i would like to see testing done showing the effects of a rounded bumper hitting a rounded bumper, just slightly high or low.i believe the results would be much more extensive, expensive and astounding.the damage incurred by my vehicle showed no distortion or compression of the bumper at all, a lot of scratches, but the most damage was done to the trunk/tail light areas. Studies need to be done on the ineffectiveness of large decorative round bumpers.

Water leak of unknown origin results in water in driver's side floor.

I have not had any of these problems repaired. My mechanic said it would cost more than the car is worth, and even worse, it isn't paid for yet!!!!

Dashboard is coming loose and may cause a problem wiith passenger air bag. Dealer was not contacted at this time.

The dashboard is badly warped blocking my vision and inhibiting the function of my defroster.

Dashboard cover is curling back from front edge and interfering with proper defroster function.

I have a 1999 mercury mystique that i purchased new. In apox. 2001, the dashboard came loose next to the windsheildand bowed up. The dash was replaced under warranty. Apox. 1 year later the dashboard did the same exact thing at which point the warrany was done, it still sits bowed up about 3 inches, thus impairing my vison while driving. I was recently told at my local ford dealer that ford knew of the problem, had a special kit to fix it and a program up to 2 years ago to repair the dashboard at no charge. I had no knowledge of this program when it was in effect and ford did not contact me to let me know about it. As the program ended 2 years ago, ford refuses to repair my dashboard, although they have admited to me that it is a manufacturing defect.

After the car was about 5 years old the dashboard warped. It came up about 3 inches and covers about 10% of the windshield. It also will not hold the defroster deflector trim so it had to be removed. I have not heard from ford (mercury)about this problem and feel it is their problem to repair and not an expense i should have to pay.

In august 2001, i recieved a letter from mercury/ford motor stating "the cover on your instrument panel may warp".i immediately called the dealer and made an appointment to have the car checked on 09/22/2001.i have the letter that was sent to me and the invoice from the dealer stating "no warpage checked ok at this time".i was advised by joseph capezzuto to keep the letter for future if needed.in the middle of september 2002 i noticed that the black plastic piece was loose on one side.i pushed it in to place several times.it was not until october 2002 that i realized that it was warping with the panel began to raise.it is several inches high blocking the lower view of the windshield.i took it to a local ford dealer and was advised to leave it that night for next day service.the next day i was told it was not covered due to the deadline expired august 31, 2002.all i want is for ford to replace the defective part that they installed in my car in the first place.thank youdt

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Dash started peeling from right corner and now has peeled away from front of dash area all the way across.

I purchased a 1999 mercury mystique gs from premier lincoln-mercury in collinsville, il in april 2000.last week i noticed that the dashboard was beginning to warp.the problem has grown steadily in the past several days, and the dash is now so warped that the front defroster ventplate popped off the dash.i know that ford offered free repair or replacement from august 2001 through august 2002 pursuant to owner notification program 01b78.however, the terms of the program made it clear that no repair or replacement would be effected unless the problem was evident.unfortunately, as my dash did not begin warping until very recently, ford customer service reps and the service manager at the dealership have informed me that there is nothing that can be done.ford was obviously aware that the dashboards were defective, else it would not have voluntarilty implemented onb 01b78.i cannot understand why those owners whose dashboards did not begin to warp until after august 31, 2002 should be distinguished from other owners whose dashes warped prior to august 31, 2002.i see no qualitative difference between the two.i regard this as a safety issue - the warped dash is interfering with my visibility, impeded operation of the windshield defroster, and might possibly interfere with airbag deployment.i am exploring the possibility of filing a class action againstford, and would like to hear from other contour and mystique owners who have had similar problems.

Entire dashboard has lifted up around the vent for the heater/air/defroster which runs the length of the front dashboard of the vehicle.problem is located directly under the front windshield.it does cause a safety issue for me for two reasons.it blocks part of my field of view out the front window.also the defroster does not vent properly to the window making it difficult to see out the window.i am also concerned about the safety of the airbags.thankfully i have not had to use them however, i am concerned because the dashboard has become unglued.it is obviously a manufacturing defect and i am concerned that the instability of the dash panel may make the airbag refuse to deploy or deploy improperly.

Warpage failure of front dashboard results in inadequate window defrosting and heating leading to an unsafe condition in rain or severe weather.recall notice by manufacturer was not honored at local dealership.dt

Entire dashboard has lifted up at the window/ vent and runs the entire length of the dashboard. Problem started directly under the front windshield but has progressed at a very quick rate.this has become a severe safety issue because it blocks part of my view while driving and is closely connected to the passenger airbag.the heater/air conditioner/vent on the dashboard does not work properly because of the severe curl. We are very concerned about the safety of the airbags and if they would deploy properly if at all in their location and condition. This is obviously a manufacturing defect but no one wants to honor the repair request.

1. No events leading to failure. 2. Dashboard cover delamination in wife's 99 mercury mystique. Makes visibility difficult, and defroster less effective. 3. Dealer stated recall no longer valid, parts not replaced.

The consumer states his mother's dashboard (the cover on the instrument panel) was severely warped which caused a big holeto form in the dash.

Whilein a parking spot consumer put foot onbrakeand gas pedal went to the floor, as if it was sticking.if tapped, it would release.consumer's car went over an embankment, consumer hit a tree, 20 feet after the embankment.that was how the car was stopped, consumer was injured in accident.

Consumer's wife was attempting to park, and when she placedrightfoot on the brakes, automobileaccelerated on its own and increased the rpms, causingautomobile to advance forward. It jumped the concrete.the brake could not stop the vehicle but when the vehicle stopped, the gas pedal went all the way down to the floor.

Consumer's vehicle was in parking lot when consumer tapped the accelerator lightly, then suddenly engine roared, and vehicle accelerated on it's own up to 40-50 mph. Consumer could not slow down vehicle, after 50-100 yards vehicle crashed into guardrail, causing extensive damage to vehicle. No injuries.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 65 mph accelerator got stuck and would not return to the idle speed. In the process, the accelerator cable broke, causing the vehicle to lose power. Owner called the manufacturer, and was told that it was the driver's fault, and there was nothing else they could do.

Vehicle emits strong odor when heating/defrosting/cooling unit causing nose bleeds, burning sensation in person eyes, nose, throat.

The dash board of my 1999 mercury mistique is warping to the point that my forward visibility is obstructed and the defrosters cannot effectively clear the windshield.

I own a 1999 mercury mystique.the dashboard has come loose and warped significantly near the windshield.the plastic piece that surrounds the defrost vent has broken.the defroster no longer works sufficiently due to the warped dashboard being in the way.the local dealer told me they could fix it at what to me is a significant cost.i cannot afford this and it is obviously a defect in the vehicle.

Whendefroster is turned on while drivingvehicle losespower, but not to the point werevehicle has to be restarted.dealer has been contacted.

Dashboard is separating fromstructure and raising upwards in front of the windshield. As a result, defroster isnot functioning properly, and windows are not being cleared.

My 1999 mercury mystiques dash board has completely warped. It has rendered the defroster useless. I was not informed of any recall for the defect. I now understand that the lincoln/mercury company did acknowledge a defect in the dashboards. What remedy can i expect ?

See nhtsa action number : dp06004.complainant vehicle (mercury mystique 1999) exhibits the identical conditions.complainant attempted to receive repairs from an authorized mercury dealer in 2002, was (a) not told of any existing ford campaign involving the subject matter; and (b) was told that nothing could be done for less than multiple thousands of dollars. Since that time, the warpage has worsened to the point where the grill for the defroster will no longer stay in place, and defroster performance to the driver's side is severely undermined due to uncontrolled airflow through the opening to the defroster blower.

Consumer states vehicle's dashboard is buckled causing defroster to malfunction which makes front windshield impossible to see through. Dealer notified. Please provide additional information. Ts

I have not had any of these problems repaired. My mechanic said it would cost more than the car is worth, and even worse, it isn't paid for yet!!!!

The dashboard curls up into the windshield which causes poor visibility.the driver cannot see over the dashboard.the problem was fixed before under warranty.

The windshield wipers do not always work when needed. I have taken the car to dealers several times since purchasing car but no remedy has been found for the problem.

The passenger's side windshield wiper extends into the driver's field of vision.on the up stroke all water on the passenger's side is pushed into the driver's view area, blinding the driver for about 1 second before the driver's side wiper on down stroke removes the water.so for every cycle of the wipers the driver can not see the road for one second during moderate to heavy rain. The passenger side wiper should not extend into the driver's view area on its up stroke.
