1996 mercury mys air bags failure in car accident.

Consumer stated that when they hit a minor bump in the road at 10mph the air bag inadvertently deployed. Dealer notified. Ts

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 55mph, and the airbags did not deploy, resulting in minor injuries. Dealer will be notified.

The vehicle hit a potholein which the driver's and passenger's side airbags deployed, and the windshield also cracked. Consumer states vehicle was only traveling 5 mph, dash also has a split.

On this day a truck cut in front of us in heavy traffic where i hit his bumper and no damage was done to his. But my car took damage from the impact and my husband recieved trauma from the passenger airbag that put him in the hospital for four days with trauma to his right eye. He was in his seatbelt and was knocked out with blood trauma to his righteye that cause permanent nerve damage.the attorney's we have had has been disbarred and paidoff by ford/mercury and their was a airbag expert by the name of jack out of lufkin texas and we need his report to be compensated for the malfuction of the airbags and for the company to claim responsibility and pay for thier error. Prior to this my airbags had been scheduled to be replaced in louisiana in jul 1997. But the dealership recieved my airbags over 3 months after i had left the state so there was something wrong with these airbags and the company never notified me of the danger , please help me if i can get the inspectors report, i will be able to have the proof to win my case.

Consumer had a head-on collision with a deer and air bags deployed, causing her to stay in hospital fora week and a half. Also,loss of hearing.

Since ownership of the vehicle it has been experiencing problems continually, within the first three months the vehicle was towed on two occasions because it would not start, possibly due to electrical system problems.*mjs

The contact owns a 1996 ford mercury mystique.while driving 60 mph the speed odometer went from zero to 120, the rmp went up to 40,000, the over drive light illuminated and the vehicle shifted out of gear.the mechanic stated that the wiring harness was failed and the vehicle is no longer drivable.there is a recall for the electrical system (nhtsa campaign #01v230000) however; the manufacture stated that the vin was not included.the current mileage was 63,500 and the failure mileage 61,900.

The under hood wire harness burned up. This car has 89,000 miles and runs good. I heard there was a recall / tsb #( onp 99m03) on this car but ford will not honor it because the car isover 10 years old. I think ford should reimburse for repairs or buy back the car. This is a dangerous situation as the car will stall abruptly and lose power steering.

Computer at mechanic show major electrical system defects-it appears that many people are experiencing this as a major problem with this car and ford contour. Ford/mercury will not do anything-also the transmission goes out quit often-had a new one at 50,000 miles-has had many recalls already and nothing has been fixed on this car-windows dont go down (due to electrical short)

Consumer states that her vehicle dies on the freeway.she states that vehicle constantly blows fuses.she said that she took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that, her electrical wires are melting together.also was told that since this is happening, when it touches it blows fuses.she states that sometimes her vehicle will not start.she also states that the mechanic states they will not touch the vehicle, because if has major problems, and is over the mileage limit to be covered by any warranty.she said she was also told, that this vehicle could caught fireat any time, and that she should not drive it because it is dangerous.please help.

The contact owns a 1996 mercury mystique.the parking lights on the front and rear of the vehicle along with the instrument panel lights were inoperative.the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 99v103000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch).the current and failure mileages were 138,552.

While traveling battery indicator light came on and vehicle stalled.consumer stated thatvehicle only stalled on wet road. Please provide further information.

Engine failed while driving on the highway, vehicle was then pushed to the side of the road where consumer then noticed smoke and a horribile smell coming from under the hood, vehicle was then towed into dealership, consumer was then advised that only a battery was needed and said nothing else was wrong, after three days of dealership having the vehicle and not trying to find the cause of the the smell and smoke consumer picked vehicle up, on the way home the head gasket blew and it was towed to a repair shop, after the head gasket was repaired, the engine still sounded bad, so consumer took vehicle to another shop and it was determined that the cylinder was bad, consumer then took vehicle back to the repair shop that repaired the head gasket and was also advised that cylinder was bad, on the way home the engine and battery light came on, vehicle was towed into dealership that replaced the battery,dealership told customer that the people who had replaced the head gasket must have done something wrong, dealership states they only did what they were told to do and that was to replace the battery.

Battery wrapped in plastic insulation resulting in overheating of the battery, leaking acid burned electrical wiring.

I was told that only the salesman that sold me the car could do the paperwork on the return,then i was told this same salesman had gone to work elsewhere.i was told then that the manager was on vacation and only he could do this.i left message for the owner to call me.i was put on hold for long periods of time. Left on hold, hung up on.the service manager was so rude to me about fixing the recalls he brought me to tears all three times that i called.he was very mean to me and told me he did not care what ford had sent out about recalls he was not going to put my car up unless i paid for it. When coming to a stop the vehicle stalls. During operation at 10 to 20 mph the vehicle jerks back and forth.

The vehicle stalls for no one reason. Manufacturer aware of problem but will not offer assistance.please describe.

Dt:the door latch on driver's side would not shut, had to go to junk yard to get a part andputit in. This happened on august 20, 2005.consumerbruised hand trying to get the down shut. Therewas clicking noise in the panel on the driver's side that controls the power windows. Also, the key gothot in the ignition.

Vehicle would not start due to failed electrical relay.

Car has had increasing number of electrical problems...check engine light coming on. Mechanics couldn't find what was triggering it after replacing the oxygen sensors repeatedly. Other twitches (stalling, burned up turn signal module,) finally culminating in complete brake light and reverse light failure. Took the car back to my mechanics, who replaced the signal module, and showed me the burn marks on it. They stated that they tried to get the brake lights to work, and found that the primary wiring harness was just disintegrating (insulation failures all over.) they called ford/mercury before they told me of this problem, and were told that ford/merc would replace the harness as long as the car hadn't gone over 100k miles, and was not more than ten years old (it wasn't.) dropped the car at a local ford dealer, who called me back to say that they would have been glad to replace the harness, had i found the problem prior to jan 2006. They promptly informed that they would be more than happy to replace the harness for about $2,000.00i informed them that i'd be more than happy to perform brain surgery on them with a weedeater at no charge. I'll never purchase another ford product in my life, and i unfortunately currently own five.

Ea 01 001/blower switch/risistor or wiring harness: blower experience a wiring harness melt down; manufacturer was not notified at this time.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.consumer states blower motor inoperable, motor and fuse were replaced, nad then motor went out again, consumer found problem to be a plug that was going into the fuse box, that was melted.

Consumer states there was a recall regarding a wire harness (99mo3) and that ford never notifies its consumers of the problems.

While going 35mph air conditioner blew out. Smelled like a fire. Had thought it was blower motor & brought one from dealer. Under the dash on right hand side, the plastic harness wire coverning had burnt. The electric wires on the blower motor had melted.

The morning of 12/12/00 i drove 25 miles to a meeting, met for 2 hours, returned to the car. It started fine, warmed up, and defrosted the windows. When i put it in reverse to back out, everything stopped. There was no ignition clicking when i tried to start it again, just nothing. Interior lights and door "bells" (for key in the ignition) worked, but everything else was just dead. Had the car towed to nearest dealership (dean bros in lincoln, ne), not where i bought the car. They said that battery acid had eaten away the connections of the wire harness. If the placement of the battery in relation to the wire harness is a defect in manufacture or design, i'd like some reimbursement of the repair bill.

Fire occured while vehicle was parked. Would like someone to investigate.ford says they would not investigate and would not compensate for replacement of vehicle.insurance will only cover market value which does not replace my car.please advise as far as legal recourse.dealership says they cannot do anything either.in the mean time i cannot purchase a similar vehicle for the blue book value.

I am writing in regards to my 1996 mercury mystique in which just had a fire. On monday, december 10th, 2001, as i was driving, smoke startecome out of both exits where my rear seat shoulder harness seatbelts release.i immediately pulled over and run to a business for help. A gentleman sprayed sprayed the fire extingisher into the opening on the side walls where smoke was coming out.the fire department arrived also.the fireman checked my fuse bux and found a fuse melted into the box.my extended warranty - western general - says the part between the seat and panel was bent making wires touch and start a fire.the dealer won't admit anything.they gutted the whole inside, bending the part western general mentioned, in order to get to the wiring underneath.i am waiting for a call from ford motor company.

Tookvehicle to a ford dealer for recall of engine cooling fan motor.they checked and said there was no problem, however a fuse was blown and they did replace the fuse.this tells me there must have been a problem for the fuse to need replacing.approx. 3 weeks later, without any signs, was driving to work and the "check engine soon" light came on.immediately afterwards the car stopped.the engine overheated and totally melted the engine components. The car had just been serviced.i feel that there obviously was a problem with the cooling fan and the result was exactly as the recall warned for the engine cooling fan.i have called ford with no results.i now have to replace the motor.please advise. What is my recourse?

My complaint involves a 1996 mercury mystique involving a failure of all interior lighting, side mirror adjustment, radio and clock related to a blown fuse #34 in the auxlillary fuse box.the cause was the overhead map light assembly which had overheated and the plastic retaining the 10w bulb holder melted allowing the metal bulb holder to slide in the molten plastic until it just barely contacted a negative bus in the assembly and blowing the fuse.it was a difficult problem to diagnose being a short was not present until the circuit was fused and then heat from the bulb would cause the metal holder to expand and short out blowing the fuse.i feel it appropriate to report this problem as i feel if the contacts had not shorted and blown the fuse and considering it became hot enough to melt the plastic is a potential fire hazard and i don't feel the assembly was engineered properly to support a 10w bulb.there has been, i believe, eight recalls to date on this model, several of those involved electrical components.

The electrical work on the car is in terrible condition.i purchased the car without noticing a failure in the reverse lighting.the reverse lights failed to work therefore since purchasing the car in greenville my daughter commuted from greensboro to greenville 3 times to have the problem corrected. Next the system failed again and with the same reverse lighting problem.i returned to car to the dealer and the system was corrected, however the panel lights failed and i have had the same problem up until this point.

Vehicle stalled, white smoke was coming out of hood, and there was a coolant smell, dealer replaced battery, however the problem was the water pump and thermostat and because they were not replaced vehicle overheated causing the head gasket to blow causing coolant to go into the cylinder.

I got in my car after work notice my windows just fog up got homnextday brought the car down to a garage they seem not intersted in it, but thought it might be the water pump and said it would cost overa thousand dollars all my warranys are up but are making payments on a car i can,t drive and belive it is a recall problem and would like to get it fix could please help also the power arm on the drivers side door let go also which caused my door window to carsh down and break that i paid about$385.00 to be fix plus the cost of the glass.

The water pump impeller was made of plastic and broke up into pieces causing $2000 in damage, because the resulting overheated engine warped the valve heads. The car need to have the head remilled and new multiple gaskets. The water pump impleller in my opinion should never had been made of plastic and was apparently defective.

Engine failed while driving on the highway, vehicle was then pushed to the side of the road where consumer then noticed smoke and a horribile smell coming from under the hood, vehicle was then towed into dealership, consumer was then advised that only a battery was needed and said nothing else was wrong, after three days of dealership having the vehicle and not trying to find the cause of the the smell and smoke consumer picked vehicle up, on the way home the head gasket blew and it was towed to a repair shop, after the head gasket was repaired, the engine still sounded bad, so consumer took vehicle to another shop and it was determined that the cylinder was bad, consumer then took vehicle back to the repair shop that repaired the head gasket and was also advised that cylinder was bad, on the way home the engine and battery light came on, vehicle was towed into dealership that replaced the battery,dealership told customer that the people who had replaced the head gasket must have done something wrong, dealership states they only did what they were told to do and that was to replace the battery.

I have had a problem with the engine stalling when outside temps exceeds 85 degrees and the a/c is on. The problem occurs after taveling at highway speeds and the cluch is depressed and the engine is allowed to idle. The engine intermittenly will immediately stall. After stopping, car stalled.then started and when stopped again, stalled.car was towed to island ford dealership --head gaskets needed to be replaced as well heads.heads had warped. Check engine light failed. Dealership where car was purchased could not be trusted to do the repair work. However, island ford no better-car has been there for 1 month.

Mold in a/c system causes allergic reactions.

Consumer states that the center air conditioner grille broke while under warranty and has been waiting for parts for two years.

While going 35mph air conditioner blew out. Smelled like a fire. Had thought it was blower motor & brought one from dealer. Under the dash on right hand side, the plastic harness wire coverning had burnt. The electric wires on the blower motor had melted.

I replaced the alternator last summer and i had to replace it again this summer. I had to replace my tail lights twice the brakes is always giving me problems. The window on the drivers side doesnt roll down. When it rain the floors get wet. I have a hard time putting it into gear and taking it out of gear. It stalls to cut on and drives really rough.i had to replace the tires numerous times.the speedometer went out and the temperture gauge as well.the ac dosent work and it takes a while for the heat to warm up car.something need to be done about this.

My complaint involves a 1996 mercury mystique involving a failure of all interior lighting, side mirror adjustment, radio and clock related to a blown fuse #34 in the auxlillary fuse box.the cause was the overhead map light assembly which had overheated and the plastic retaining the 10w bulb holder melted allowing the metal bulb holder to slide in the molten plastic until it just barely contacted a negative bus in the assembly and blowing the fuse.it was a difficult problem to diagnose being a short was not present until the circuit was fused and then heat from the bulb would cause the metal holder to expand and short out blowing the fuse.i feel it appropriate to report this problem as i feel if the contacts had not shorted and blown the fuse and considering it became hot enough to melt the plastic is a potential fire hazard and i don't feel the assembly was engineered properly to support a 10w bulb.there has been, i believe, eight recalls to date on this model, several of those involved electrical components.

My heater control knob for high,med,low only work in the low position. Switch is so poorly made.the contacts(where it plugs into the wire harness) don't make good contact and as a result the switch gets hot and melts the plastic.it was replaced by the factory during a recall 8/06/99and has failed again.the defective parts are still being used!

Dt: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign99v103000 concerning the exterior lighting.: headlights. This vehicle has the same problemsas indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to vin.no repairs have been made due to the expense.updated 01/19/06.

Filler hose leaks badly when tank is filled. Car diagonosed by mel clayton ford of phoenix, arizona with filler hose and vent valve need to be replaced, possibly needing a new fuel tank as well. Car also runs hot all the time (ford unable to diagnose the problem)

Fuel tank lid does not open when the lever is pushed down from the interior of the car. It has to be opened from the trunk.

Dt:the door latch on driver's side would not shut, had to go to junk yard to get a part andputit in. This happened on august 20, 2005.consumerbruised hand trying to get the down shut. Therewas clicking noise in the panel on the driver's side that controls the power windows. Also, the key gothot in the ignition.

I purchased my mercury mystique new in november of 1996. I have always driven the car very easy, i don't even get on the expressway very often. At around 45,000 miles, i had the transmission serviced, which the owners manual doesn't even mention. Now, with only 55k miles, the transmission has failed and needs a total rebuild! although the car is nearly 9 years old, at 55,000 miles the transmission failing is not acceptable. Computer at mechanic show major electrical system defects-it appears that many people are experiencing this as a major problem with this car and ford contour. Ford/mercury will not do anything-also the transmission goes out quit often-had a new one at 50,000 miles-has had many recalls already and nothing has been fixed on this car-windows dont go down (due to electrical short)

While driving on highway, transmission began to shift at odd times.shortly thereafter, the shifts began to take excessively long between gear engagement.the following day, the o/d off light began to flash on the dash and the transmission refused to engage gears.driver stranded.upon inspection at dealership, i was told transmission was "totalled" and required replacement.details sketchy, but technician reported that an internal failure occured and transmission lubrication was affected (stopped).gears began running metal on metal with no warning and "internal damage" occured.car was driven less than 12 miles after warning light on dash began to flash.this car has only 63k miles and the transmission is totalled by lack of lubrication with a full reservoir or ford fluid.

I don't have an estimate on transmission damage.transmission was in good condition went it was brought to dealer, it is now inoperable. I am looking into possible tampering with the vehicle.i have no intention of paying for this damage.

We took this car to the dealer in may of 1999 because the throttle seemed to stick, then break free, causing to car to lurc forward into traffic.they kept the car but it would not repeat the problem so they erturned it to us and charged us over $100.ever since the throttle would sometimes feel rough in about one half to one inch of travel but then would be smooth as silk.in feb we took the car in for the smog check and the service person finished the test and put the car in reverse and it sat still, the engine at idle and it would not move.he shifted it back and forth then suddenly it shot out of the stall without warning.he said he had pushed on the foot pedal but nothing happened.then on march 14, 2000, i was traveling at a steady speed of 50 miles per hour for about five minutes when i decided to accelerate to 55, the throttle stuck tight.i pushed very hard but nothing happened for about 20 seconds, then suddenly it released and my speed increased.at this point we cannopt afford to pay ford $100 every time we take this in and they can't find anything.i'm sure it is a throttle problem.the smog mechanic thinks it may also have something to do with a switch on the transmission, as he said when it did it to him he moved the shift lever back and for and pushed on the foot pedal and it did not increase in speed nor did it move. While vehicle was being serviced for another issue, consumer was informed that vehicle developed transmission problems and it would not move at all.

Vehicle was in for overheating and stalling repair when dealer notified consumer of complete manual transmission failure, consumer finds this failure odd since there have been no previous problems with the transmission.

Front brakes including driver side rotor required replacement at 26,500 miles.the outside brake pad on this wheel , visible thru aluminum wheel, had a full 3/16" of pad remaining and the inner pad was completely gone (metal to metal) when replaced.only sign of problem was unusual noise approx. One week before replacement.all other previous cars have been gm or chrysler which have "squealer clips" on brake pads that alert you to need for repair while pads are still in safe operating condition.dealer told me ford does not put these clips on their pads.i believe these low cost clips are a very important safety feature and should be mandated on all cars sold in the us.

When driving55 mph or above and applying the brakesentire steering column vibrates, cause unknow., dealer replaced the brakerotors and pads, which did not correct the problem.please give any further details.

Power steering assist is lost in the rain.the car had this issue when it was new.most of the time it happened, the car was going straight.now when it occurred in a turn, this becomes much more of a safety issue.within minutes, upon reaching highway speed, the power steering went out when i went through a puddle as the road was in a bend.this known vehicle defect is a major safety issue when the driver can not safely control the vehicle.there should be a recall to fix it immediately.

Theother problems, the trunk having water damage due to a severe leak,my electrical system is no good.i have a loose rod underneath car apart of the steering/ i drove around without the car being properly inspected and registered/ no admission sticker/engine makes this weird sound a rattling noise/ driving on the highway between 45-50 sometimes at no given moment the car will take off up the highway/ when you put car in gear it jerks so hard you think the car has broken down.the fuel tank does not pass inspection.the speakers and radio has also never played properly.i tryed and have been trying for the last 2 years and 3 months plus.when i found out all the things were going on i was very furious because these people knew that i was disabled, with a terrible injury, this was why i was trading in my car because it had over 100,000 miles and i needed something extra dependable.i voiced this to them, because i had trouble getting around.i have tryed many times to resolve this and nothing has been done from the dealership to rectify this.they told me alot of lies to stall me during the window to return the car. I was told that only the salesman that sold me the car could do the paperwork on the return,then i was told this same salesman had gone to work elsewhere.i was told then that the manager was on vacation and only he could do this.i left message for the owner to call me.i was put on hold for long periods of time. Left on hold, hung up on.the service manager was so rude to me about fixing the recalls he brought me to tears all three times that i called.he was very mean to me and told me he did not care what ford had sent out about recalls he was not going to put my car up unless i paid for it. And, that if he put it up and fixed it i would not get my vehicle until he was paid for it.at that point i made up my mind not to go there and be humiliated again. Foralong time there has been bearing changes. I gave my car to a tenant and she wanted it to get inspected, but she needed both front spring coils to be replaced. And for a long time the air conditioning(a/c) bearings have been bad. It is going to cost her much money. Can a claim be made because of a recall?

Consumer contacteddealer in reference to manufacturer's recall 98m04, nhtsa recall number not available.dealer refused to correctrecall problem.the dealer was not willing to do recall job because the manufacturer indicated that the spring coil must have been either rusted or broken to quality for recall fixing.however, the consumer was conderned about the safety.

1996 mercury mystique(68,000). Ford motor company had what they referred to as a "program", evidently for a problem with the front springs.the program was basically a free inspection. My car was inspected in 2002 while it was in for another recall, at which time it was given a passing grade.the program expired @ 150,000 or dec. Of 2004 whichever came first.in february 2005 a 6" chunck of the pass. Side spring snapped off, luckily on a residential street. I heard the noise and was able to retrieve the piece from the street.on close inspection the piece did not break due to corrosion.i believe it was due to poor material quality, my concern is that this could cause tire failure at higher rates of speed resulting in possible fataliies. Ford would not replace the spring.

Consumer has noticed that for no apparent reasonwindshield has developed a stress fractur. Also , when driving there is vibration coming from rear ofvehicle, andheater blower swtich was inoperable. Please provide any further details.

Goodyear eagle gt44 (p205-60-15) tires vibrated .

Plastic piece on dashboard needed replaced, however it took dealer a couple of years to order it.

I went to a dealership in glendora, caand car was still on bumper to bumper warranty. They wanted me to pay a cost for them to look at the car.therefore car wasn't fixed and now problem still persists.i will not pay for something that happened while under warranty.i can not remember the dealerships name but it was the biggest ford dealership in glendora,ca.i have a witness who was with mewhen this occurred. No safety defect listed in the summary.

My heater control knob for high,med,low only work in the low position. My rear brake light had a leak,allowing water to fill up and blow my light bulbs.there is a ticking noise in my dash as if my turn signals is running, but no flash on the indicators. Cruise control cable linkage got hooked onto the bleeder causing the throttle to stick. The dealer has been notified. Nlm

We took this car to the dealer in may of 1999 because the throttle seemed to stick, then break free, causing to car to lurc forward into traffic.they kept the car but it would not repeat the problem so they erturned it to us and charged us over $100.ever since the throttle would sometimes feel rough in about one half to one inch of travel but then would be smooth as silk.in feb we took the car in for the smog check and the service person finished the test and put the car in reverse and it sat still, the engine at idle and it would not move.he shifted it back and forth then suddenly it shot out of the stall without warning.he said he had pushed on the foot pedal but nothing happened.then on march 14, 2000, i was traveling at a steady speed of 50 miles per hour for about five minutes when i decided to accelerate to 55, the throttle stuck tight.i pushed very hard but nothing happened for about 20 seconds, then suddenly it released and my speed increased.at this point we cannopt afford to pay ford $100 every time we take this in and they can't find anything.i'm sure it is a throttle problem.the smog mechanic thinks it may also have something to do with a switch on the transmission, as he said when it did it to him he moved the shift lever back and for and pushed on the foot pedal and it did not increase in speed nor did it move. Air conditioner indicator is not illuminating ondash when lights are turned on.also,during the first week of purchase problems withaccelerator pedalsticking . Consumer was aware that a recall had been issued for that problem, but manufacturer refused to repair due to vin.problems with radiator also occurred, andmanufacturer refused to repair that problem free of charge because vin# did not apply to that recall either. Consumerwas unable to contact dealer. Dealerwas no longer in business. Please provide further details.

While driving inheavymorning traffic vehicle starts whining, then it stalls. Has to put gear in park to restart.sometimes the overdrive indicator light comes on. Also, when pulling out in traffic, it doesn't engage in gear immediately, when putting foot on accelerator, it can cause an accident.

Nhtsa #97v22500 - my vin# not included.

Consumer was pulling into the driveway. There was tight pulling & grinding noise in the throttle.vehicle was put in parkbefore pressing down on the throttle again & the cable snapped. Dealer said cable was busted off the accelerator pedal which controlled throttle of the vehicle. Recall#97v22500o. Dealer statedwrong part was put on that was why it broke. Dealer repaired the problem, but fixed it temporarily. Correct cable still needs to be put on to rectify &complete the problem. The traction is now off.the consumer has been waiting 2 1/2 weeks for the dealer to get the correct part in from ford.

Nhtsa recall 97 v 225 000/throttle cable: vehicle experienced separation ofthrottle cable. Manufacturer notified, and informedconsumer that this vehiclewas not covered underrecall due to vin. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Steering wheel vibrates when in drive and stops at red light. Also when heater fan is on we get a bad oil fumes/smells . We have had it to the dealers 7or 8 times . They still haven't found the problem. The smell sometimes gets very bad.

My heater control knob for high,med,low only work in the low position. My rear brake light had a leak,allowing water to fill up and blow my light bulbs.there is a ticking noise in my dash as if my turn signals is running, but no flash on the indicators. When i signal to take turns it works fine but when not turning still makes clicking noise. Transmission went out in october 2000, i heardthis is a common problem in my vehical.. Dt: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign99v103000 concerning the exterior lighting.: headlights. This vehicle has the same problemsas indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to vin.no repairs have been made due to the expense.updated 01/19/06.

Consumer has noticed that for no apparent reasonwindshield has developed a stress fractur. Also , when driving there is vibration coming from rear ofvehicle, andheater blower swtich was inoperable. Please provide any further details.

The fan switch is causing overheating and melting of the wire harness. The high/ medium/ low control does not respond when activated. Niether, will fan run on one speed only. The dealer has been contacted.

Dt:the door latch on driver's side would not shut, had to go to junk yard to get a part andputit in. This happened on august 20, 2005.consumerbruised hand trying to get the down shut. Therewas clicking noise in the panel on the driver's side that controls the power windows. Also, the key gothot in the ignition.

Passenger's side power window failed to operate due tofailure ofcable drive motor.dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under arecall andwarranty expired.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

I replaced the alternator last summer and i had to replace it again this summer. I had to replace my tail lights twice the brakes is always giving me problems. The window on the drivers side doesnt roll down. When it rain the floors get wet. I have a hard time putting it into gear and taking it out of gear. It stalls to cut on and drives really rough.i had to replace the tires numerous times.the speedometer went out and the temperture gauge as well.the ac dosent work and it takes a while for the heat to warm up car.something need to be done about this.

Body paint-acid like blemishes; brakes-premature wearing out; seat- driver's seat loose; seat belt- belt does not retract fully and catches in closing door ,resulting in broken button;engine(cold starts)- engine prone to stalling and low idle speed;remote trunk and fuel filler doorrelease - remote release does not always function;water leaks into trunk while trunk is open;vehicle rides harshly - struts checked and no trouble found;auto transmission shifting difficulty shifting from reverse to park;trunk lock inoperable during cold weather;power windows binding.

Driver's side power window will not go up. At all.the dealership is aware ofproblem.

When trying to put the driver side window down, you have to keep pushing the button until it finally decides to go down. When putting it up it is the same way, but it takes forever to get it up. Sometimes you have to open the door or pull on the door and then it may go up and then again it may not. I have taken it to crane lincoln mercury to get it looked at and in the process therolled it down and could not get it back up. They told me they finally got the window up but the motor would not hold it up and it fell back down. Now i am forced to by a new motor for my window because it won't stay up. I have been very pleased with my car up until this . I am very upset about all of this because it is costing me over $300 to get itfixed, i have to have it fixed because i can't drive with my window down all of the time because of the rain. My complaint involves a 1996 mercury mystique involving a failure of all interior lighting, side mirror adjustment, radio and clock related to a blown fuse #34 in the auxlillary fuse box.the cause was the overhead map light assembly which had overheated and the plastic retaining the 10w bulb holder melted allowing the metal bulb holder to slide in the molten plastic until it just barely contacted a negative bus in the assembly and blowing the fuse.it was a difficult problem to diagnose being a short was not present until the circuit was fused and then heat from the bulb would cause the metal holder to expand and short out blowing the fuse.i feel it appropriate to report this problem as i feel if the contacts had not shorted and blown the fuse and considering it became hot enough to melt the plastic is a potential fire hazard and i don't feel the assembly was engineered properly to support a 10w bulb.there has been, i believe, eight recalls to date on this model, several of those involved electrical components.

The vehicle hit a potholein which the driver's and passenger's side airbags deployed, and the windshield also cracked. Consumer states vehicle was only traveling 5 mph, dash also has a split.

Side windows malfunctioned. Also thermostat shorted out.

2nd vin#: [xxx] mercury mystique #2, 1996. Purchased 6/97...both mystiques' front driver's & front pass windows failed due to faulty regulators & motors.rear windows roll down only 1/2 way, and not wide enough for escape.randy king, service manager for crawford county ford, stated that they hadmultiple mystiques, same prob.they discounted only 1/2 the cost to us.total spent to date on all 4 windows/2 cars$800.
