Once the key is inserted the seat will move into position and the interior lights turn off. That is what should happen. What happens is my knee nudges the key the car will think i have taken the key out and will turn the interior lights on and move my seat all the way back to its out position. This can cause an accident because me feet no longer touch the pedals. As soon as this happened my air bag light came on but no codes are showing. This has happened multiple times and i am surprised there is not a recall for this since there are others suffering with this as well that i have seen posted in online forums.

Car when idle shuts off in middle of traffic locking break an steering wheel can cause accident happened to me in middle of traffic thank god i was close to emergency exit car shutoff not allowing to brake had to press emergency brake.

The first time the following occurred was the first day i drove the vehicle.the dealership replaced the tumbler, but 1 1/2 years later it started again. While driving, i moved my foot from the accelerator to the brakes, and my knee brushed along the key fob dangling from the ignition switch. The seats then automatically retracted to the rear position. This happens on a daily basis, and seems to be extremely dangerous--particularly because it happens not only when moving my foot to the brake, but anytime. While i react quickly enough, i have children in my car at all times and if i was braking to avoid an accident, it would be impossible as i am only 5'5".since my warranty was only good for one year, it will now cost another $400 for a new tumbler, but i've never had a car where the tumbler is replaced every 1 1/2 years or ever for that matter.am i supposed to wait for a fatal accident where either myself or my children are severely injured or killed?

Defective ignition.when driving, if you bump the key (or attached keychain), all interior lights will come on, and the drivers seat will retract all the way back into the "easy entry/exit" position, making it impossible for a shorter person to reach the brake or gas pedal.sometimes during this event, the car will stall.this is very dangerous, and the internet is full of people having this identical issue.why hasn't this been recalled yet?!?people are paying for a new ignition tumbler, but before long it starts happening to the replacement tumbler as well.http://www.carcomplaints.com/mercury/mountaineer/2008/accessories-interior/seats.shtml

While coming up to a red light, the vehicle started making a clunking noise and the brake pedal went to the floor when i tried to stop for the red light.i also lost power steering.luckily, i finally got the suv to stop after i pumped the brakes and i was able to avoid hitting the car in front of me.i was close to my home so i slowly drove to my house using the emergency brake to stop if necessary.i contacted mercury who towed the suv to their shop the next day on the 15th of december.they have had the vehicle all day on the 15th and 16th and told me that i could pick it up on the 17th.they couldn't, however. Find anything wrong with the vehicle and said the computers say everything is fine. They claim there is nothing wrong and are giving me the vehicle back.

While driving vehicle my seat will decide to move on its own and pull me away from the pedals also the dome light comes on and it does this all the time very dangerous now my car will not start at all due to the ignition switch i believe.

Easy entry/exit feature. This feature will enable while driving my vehicle. This makes for a dangerous situation because i am not able to reach my gas and brake pedal. There is no specific pattern.

While driving, i moved my foot from the accelerator to the brakes, and my knee brushed along the key fob dangling from the ignition switch.the seats then automatically retracted to the rear position.this has now happened four times, and seems to be extremely dangerous--particularly because it happens when moving my foot to the brake.while i reacted quickly enough in these normal incidents, if i was braking to avoid an accident, i doubt i'd be so lucky.

Turn key on an seat goes back an fourth ,then stops ,while driving it goes back an forth again some times 3-4times it has gotten much worse recently ,definitely not safe to drive like that, this happened when starting up the car an driving, which makes the seat go all the way back an i'm short so when it goes back i barely reach the pedals, this happened all the time for no reason on side streets on highway

Driver seat moves back to the "easy exit" position while driving! had to manually move the seat up with the side controls in order to reach the pedals again. Could not reach the brake!dealer replaced ignition key tumbler, same problemdealer replaced ignition electrical switch, solution pending.this should be a recall as it is a major safety issue!!!

After approximately 90,000 miles the dome lights turned on and automatic seats move back while driving.this issue persists and often occurs several times.there are several complaints of this issue found online.it is not due to a heavy key chain as i only have the fob and key attacked. This is a safety issue as the seats pull the driver away from the pedals and steering wheel.investigate! recall!

While driving the vehicle the interior light turns on and the seat moves back into the park position. This is a safety issue as it is difficult to reach the pedal/brakeand it happens without notice. There is no rhyme or reason to this problem. I have seen multiple posts regarding this issue and don't see how it cannot be a recall for safety reasons

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the driver seat would move backward and the interior lights remained illuminated while driving. The failure continued numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who replaced the battery, but the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 51,000. Updated 04/23/12

Driver seat electrical adjustment will move itself backwards while car is moving. There is no pattern to this problem, it is random.

The issue started out while we were driving; the seat would move to the easy exit feature and the dome lights would come on as though the key was removed from the ignition. It's now more frequent and happens when you put the key in the ignition. Turning the key slightly will put in back into the driving position. This is a serious driving hazard as you're moved very far away from the steering wheel as well as the brake and gas pedals. Sadly, it will takea deadly accident occurring for this to be considered a recall.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the key failed to start the vehicle numerous times. In addition, the driver's seat moved out of position while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than once, but the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer.when the contact started the ignition, the dome light illuminated unexpectedly.the failure occurred intermittently and the dome light would not dim automatically.whenever the vehicle was in operation, the dome light would illuminate and the front driver's easy-access seat retracted without warning.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was related to the to keyless entry module.the vehicle was repaired under the service warranty; however, it was insufficient.on a separate occasion, the failure recurred.the contact was involved in a minor crash, which may have been caused by the vehicle's malfunctions.there were no injuries.the vehicle is in the process of being taken back to the authorized dealer for repair.the failure mileage was 16,000 and current mileage was 17,500.

While driving, the drivers power seat will move to the "open door position" causing my feet to be too far from the pedals.this is extremely dangerous.i have seen many reports regarding this issue.

I purchased this used vehicle which is in excellent shape and i love everything about it except the seat issue. After having the car for about a week the power seat started moving on its own. The interior lights will come on and the actual navigation/radio system and driving lights dim. I have looked online and this seems to be a constant problem and is basically the ignition area that needs to be replaced. I have almost been in a few accidents because of this and have 2 small children. My mother had to drive my car one day and she pulled over in complete fear because of almost wrecking. There has to be some type of recall to fix this problem. Every bump you hit this happens now. Multiple times in a 10 min drive. It is seriously dangerous. Please respond asap! thank you![xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the driver's side seat independently engaged into the easy exit position as the interior lights flashed on and off.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the ignition switch and the cylinder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the vin was not available.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 66,000.

While driving the driver seat automatically goes back and the interior light comes on...this is gonna cause an accident cuz when the seat goes back the memory key for the seat position doesnt work until u turn the ignition off and back on again, once the seat goes back i cant reach the break or peddle. This is dangerous situation and isee im not the only one having this issue? it happens several times a day..soemtime when u first start it but mostly while driving down the road

I was driving my vehicle and a light came on that said check the charging system, the car's electrical system completely crashed and all the electrical power to the car died and it literally turned off while i was driving it in the middle of the street.now even with a replaced battery and alternator it will only start with ajump and continues to say the charging system needs to be checked.this is extremely dangerous.what if i were driving on the highway and all of a sudden (with no reduction of speed) the vehicle just turned off and stopped.no electric meant no powersteering, no abs, no air bag sensors etc... Very dangerous.i have checked several blogs and sites and i am finding a number of people are having the same charging system issue.i would like to return the company to cover the cost of repairs for this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph over a speed bump, the ignition switch malfunctioned and caused the seat to move in reverse. Additionally, the interior lights illuminated independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware. The failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

If i hit a bump or pothole while driving, the driver's seat moves to the easy exit position the dome lights come on. Happens also if you bump the steering wheel or if you touch the key when it is in the ignition. It has happens while backing out in drive. Stalled the engine twice. Turning the key slightly will put the seat back into the set position. I am only 5' 5", so when the seat goes back while i am driving, i am moved too far away from the steering wheel and the brake and gas pedals. Mechanic inspection indicates it is a problem with the ignition switch and has quoted it as a $203 repair.

Purchased a used 2008 mercury mountaineer almost a year ago, in approx oct 2012 the driver's seat started moving back and forth while driving.when the seat moved back it was almost so far back i couldn't hold onto steering wheel or keep foot on brake pedal.took vehicle to mccoy mills ford and they could not duplicate occurrence.since that date this has happened multiple times and i figured out it has something to do with the ignition switch.if the car gets any minor jolt as in riding on rough street or going over speed bump, ignition apparently shift which triggers something in the sensor and off you go.most recent occurrence was on 12/11/2012 while driving through a local walmart parking lot; slowly went over speed bump and seat started moving on its own.since the occurrences are becoming more frequent decided to take care back in now that i know it has something to do with ignition switch.called ford customer care center and spoke to a rep who stated they didn't have any recalls for such a matter and my bumper-to-bumper had expired so i would have to incur cost to repair.went back to mccoy mills ford was told that the keysense would need to be replaced and cost would be $390 - $400+.this should really be a recall item, especially after reading the number of postings on this site for the same thing.

While driving between 50 - 65 miles per hour the electric driver seat will move back into the open door park position and the inside lights will come on.has happened multiple times since october 2014.there is no set pattern, it is completely random.

While driving down the road, the seat will suddenly move backwards to the "open door" position, as though the key had been pulled out of the ignition.this creates a very dangerous situation, especially for people with short legs, as one can no longer reach the gas pedal or brake.slightly "wiggling" the key or ignition switch will usually get the seat to move back to the preset driving position.when this happens, the interior lights also go on, and turn off when the seat moves back into position.this seems to happen at all different speeds, and it seems most events happen after the car hits a bump, but not always. There have been times when it just seems to happen without anything to set it off.it also can happen when the vehicle is first started up, or just as you start to shut the vehicle off.it is absolutely ridiculous that repair of this condition is not a recall item.the date shown for when it happened is the latest date - i have not driven the vehicle since then - but it has been occurring for at least the last 10 months.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the front driver's seat moved back independently and the dome light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where unknown repairs were performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 38,000.

At 28000 miles the transmission started shifting erratic, the dealer reprogrammed the ecm and covered up the problem until the warrant ended and the battery failed at which time the car reverted back to default and continued to buck and jerk until the car reached highway speed. This continued until the transmission finally failed during operation on the highway on 3/5/20. The abs module just failed during low speed operation for no apparent reason. Also the car indicated that there is an electrical problem even though all electrical components are in good operational condition. This error comes and goes constantly at any given time.

While driving, the driver's side dome light came on and the seat moved all the way back.now, when you start the car, the seat will move all the way back and has to be manually, with power button, put into a comfortable position for driving.the seat continues to move back by itself at random times.many times the problem occurs when driving, even at 30 mph or less, over a bump in the road.

While driving driver seat goes backward and interiorlights goes on with out using or pushing no instruments

Engine will not turn over. All electronics work. Keep turning ignition key on and off sometimes it will start in a few minutes other times it has to sit for a half hour or more. Dome light will come on for no reason. After reading others having same issues, i turned on easy access and slightly turned ignition key and sure enough the seat went back and dome light came on. This vehicle has been to a forddealer numerous times, once towed, and they can't seem to duplicate the problem. Thanks to this website i now have more information and hopefully will be able to get this on going issue fixed. The easy access is always turned off. The no crank no start is the big problem because i can't go anywhere for just a half hour and be confident it will start.

There is a recurring problem that the seat will automatically go into the "easy exit" position. This is not a problem for me as i drive with the seat as far back as possible, but this is a huge safety concern for my wife. Why hasn't this been recalled yet? this seems to be a common problem in this make and model. God forbid the electrical problem worsens and causes a fire.

While driving on highway drivers seat went forward independently without warning and seat went in the last memory position as far forward as possible position jamming drivers foot on gas pedal for an unspecified amount of time, and dome light came on. Driver could not get foot off gas pedal and could only get the seat to go back by manually using the seat buttons. Drivers seat was so far forward it was very difficult for driver to get hand between door and seat to get to button and driver was so frantic and scared trying to maintain vehicle control while attempting to get hand between seat and door to reach and find correct button to move seat back when there are 3 different seat buttons. Driver has disabled person that sets behind drivers seat so drivers seat upon disabled person entering vehicle is always put in the fartherest position forward to enable disabled person space to get in vehicle. Upon finally getting seat back driver has no recollection of any events occurring afterward because driver went into shock.took vehicle to dealership to find problem shop manager got in attempting to duplicate problem instead the seat wouldn't even move as it's automatically programmed to do, then seat rocked back and forth, then went all the way forward. Dealership made two new ignition keys to replace the worn key, replaced computer memory cylinder in steering wheel where it was found if worn ignition key lost contact because of key being worn, with cylinder, seat had a mind of it's own.this resulted in a speeding ticket.

Our 2008 mountaineer is equipped with power seats with settings memory.normally, when you turn the engine off and open any of the doors, the driver's seat automatically glides in reverse to the fullest extent to allow for more room to exit the car.when the seat glides backwards, the step bar on the outside of the car automatically drops down and outward.for an unknown reason, the driver's seat (randomly) automatically glides backwards to fullest extent and the step bar automatically drops down as though the engine has been turned off and one of the doors has been opened.it happens just about everyday at least once.it happened 6 times in a 4 minute time period the other day.each time it immediately went back to its original position.the first time it happened, my wife was driving on the freeway at 65 mph.the first time it happened to me was when i was starting to make a right turn.i ended up 2' over in the oncoming traffic lane.luckily, no cars were near.this problem could have dire consequences.

While driving the vehicle, the seat suddenly went all the way back and the interior lights came on. This has happened several times since then, we finally figured out it was the ignition, with the car acting like the key just got put in the ignition or just pulled out, and the seat moving all the way back for easier ingress/egress and the courtesy lights coming on. Since i am only 5 foot 4 inches, when the seat moves back i can no longer reach the petals, a very dangerous situation while driving.

I hope this gets fixed before somebody gets hurt, as i have a couple friends with mountaineers, one is the same year, who have the same problem.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the instrument panel lighting system was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle however, was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The instrument panel lights were replaced however, the failure recurred. The vehicle then was taken to maritime ford (1305 franklin st, manitowoc, wi 54220) where the vehicle was diagnosed and it was determined that the dimmer switch needed to be placed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. *dt

While driving on a long trip, without warning, the memory seats change seat setting and went back fully as if i shut the vehicle off, this happened several times while i was driving without my assistance. I finally realized that when i touched the keys in the ignition, the seat went back to its original setting. When this occurred i was unable to reach brake and accelerator pedals which could have caused a fatal accident to occur. If this happened at a time that i needed to apply the brakes, i would not be able to and there would have been no way for me to stop. I took my vehicle to an authorized dealer who replaced the ignition.on 6/6/2012 the same thing happened again (mileage 60774), this time i struck the car in front of me, it was a good thing it happened while i was in traffic, and neither vehicle sustained damage. I brought my vehicle to the same authorized dealer who replaced the ignition again. Thank god all repairs were covered under my warranty. I have been lucky twice.my warranty runs out at 75000, what if it happens a third time, what will my cost then???? or what if it happens while traveling on the highway and i need to stop??

**************************engine will shutoff without warning**********************it has happened with various levels of gas, various weather conditions, and both while stopped and moving. The "check fuel filler inlet" light will come on. Sometimes, the check engine light will remain on, but will clear within the next startup or two. Car has been at dealers at least 4 times for issue. Engine throttle body and crankshaft sensors have been replaced. In the beginning, the vehicle would do this once or twice, then run perfectly for months at a time. Each time it is "fixed" by dealer, who claims they cannot replicate the problem.lately it will stall 4-6 times within a 30 minute period. Last month, i was able to read code 2107. Today, it stalled again 6 times, no check engine light remains, no code to be read.when car is running normally, it sometimes hiccups and seems to run rough.

Since i purchased in 2009, engine kills anytime, mostly when gas pedal not pressed. Pulling out of parking lots, sitting at red lights, or letting off gas on interstate, engine just kills. Sometimes feels like a jolt. I have to put the shift in neutral and restart the engine. Records of all visits for the problem at dealership. Never could solve problem, but too unsafe to donate to my grandson. If something were to happen to him because of a defect that was never found, i don't know what i'd do. Cannot check transmission fluid level. Sealed. I do have some fluid stains on my driveway. For years i've reported to the dealership and specified the concern for safety but to no avail. It kills anytime. May not die for a week, or tomorrow, or even a month. No particular pattern. Feels like a transmission problem. If i'm sitting in a parking lot with motor running, sometimes it just kills. It's the shifting to neutral while driving on highways and streets to restart while moving i'm worried about. I've had several mechanics claim they fixed it but to no avail. Please give me some direction. All the shops i've gone to are reputable businesses. One mechanic said the electronic brain (computer box) might be causing and said to send it to mercury for recalculation. I don't know about that. Most of the read outs are epa related.

Vehicle is missing, now shaking. Need spark plug replaced but is stuck. Needed special tool/equipment to get out. Will be very costly. I shouldn't have to have this problem since i only purchased it almost 2 yrs ago. I am really contemplating suing!!

I have 2 broken bolts onmy rt side exhaust manifold and once and a while can smell exhaust fumes in the truck. I've taken it to five separate mechanics for diagnosticsthe repairs are very expensive and everyone said there should be a recall for this. After a little research there are hundreds if not thousands with this same problem i have grandchildren who have to drive in this truck every day and are subject to dangerous fumeswhy !!!!!!!!!hasn't ford done anything about this.i called ford tell them what the problem is and get nowhere there exact word are ( there isn't enough complaints about this problem ) bs !! look on the internet and you'll seenhtsa needs to help people with this now before it's to late.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle would stall and the wrench warning light would illuminate. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.updated 06/24/11

While driving on the freeway, the driver's seat moved backwards. I was unable to reach the brake or gas and was nearly in an accident as i was unaware as to what was going on. Just noticed a small gas leak happening over the past week or so. Gas just intermittently drips behind left rear wheel regardless of whether the tank is full or partially empty. Cannot see where the leak is coming from.

Takata recallwhile my vehicle is in motion, & when i stop at a stop light, it's suddenly shuts off. This has happened several times while on the highway at highway speeds, & on city streets at normalspeeds. It has proven dangerous several times. When i put the vehicle in reverse, the vehicle jerks very hard. Also when i drive for more than 6 to 7 miles at highway speeds, a tire pressure sensor comes on.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the front driver's seat moved back independently and the dome light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that they could not find a defect in the seating switch but the failure still persisted. The manufacture was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 66,600. Updated 3/14/14

While driving the driver seat slides back into exit form and it is hard to reach the gas and brakes and the interior lights come on. This happens periodically while driving if you touch the ignition as if you are going to start the vehicle the seat will go back into place and the interior lights will go off.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. While driving 30 mph, the front driver's seat automatically retracted backwards. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. Also, the interior lighting illuminated on its own. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.

Driver seat moves back into exit position and interior lights come on while driving. This happens at any speed periodically and while going over bumps. I am very short so when this happens i have a difficult time reaching the gas/brake. I have 4 young children and this is a very big safety issue while driving.

One mechanic said the electronic brain (computer box) might be causing and said to send it to mercury for recalculation. I don't know about that. Most of the read outs are epa related.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. While driving at low speeds, the vehicle hesitated to switch gears without warning. In addition, when the vehicle shifted gears, it jerked violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions; however, the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, he heard a beeping sound. A warning light illuminated on the instrument panel to pull over for safety. He was able to stop and reset the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that they needed to repair the power train axle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileage was 117,000.

My vehicle's warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles. Since this week i have heard a metal scratch noise from the vehicle during driving on the road. I brought my vehicle to ford dealership shop, it is found that rear axle seal has been damaged with oil leakage. Unfortunate, the repair is not covered by warranty because it has been 5 year, although the mileage is only 43500 miles.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. While in park and turned off, the vehicle rolled forward and collided with another vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated or injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,500.

On a 2008 mercury mountaineer the driver side seat belt will not stay hooked in it comes lose.

Seat belt on the drivers side fails to say hooked into the seat belt clip-in

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer.the driver's seat belt is too short.the driver is barely able to buckle the seat belt, and once he does, he is unable to move.the contact feels that this is a safety risk because it puts him in a very uncomfortable situation.the dealer exchanged the seat belt, but it was identical to the one that was already in the vehicle.the manufacturer refuses to make any changes because it would be a safety violation.ford only offered a seat belt extender, but the contact refuses to use an extender.he also owns a 2006 mercury vehicle, in which the seat belt is 6-9 inches longer.the failure mileage was 23 and current mileage was 600. While driving, the drivers power seat will move to the "open door position" causing my feet to be too far from the pedals.this is extremely dangerous.i have seen many reports regarding this issue.

The seat while driving automatically moves back from the brake pedal which causes problems stopping the vehicle. The seat then moves you forward pressing your foot against the gas pedal causing you to speed up. It is a random issue and you are unaware while driving when it will occur. This can cause a serious accident to someone or someone's property and injury to the vehicle occupants.

While driving, the driver's side dome light came on and the seat moved all the way back.now, when you start the car, the seat will move all the way back and has to be manually, with power button, put into a comfortable position for driving.the seat continues to move back by itself at random times.many times the problem occurs when driving, even at 30 mph or less, over a bump in the road.

The driver's seat moved back while braking for traffic same as if i had turned off the car and was removing the key.a few minutes later it happened again while braking.i realized it was happening while braking because when my leg moved towards the brake pedal, my knee touched the key chain, thus it appears to be a problem with the ignition switch, not the brakes, causing the problem.i contacted my local ford service shop and they advised they have never heard of this problem and do not know how to fix this as they have not received any bulletins from ford about the problem.i am taking it to their shop and hope that they can re-created the problem as they advised this is the only way they can try and find something to fix as they will not replace the ignition based on my information.

I was driving along and the driver seat started going back.this is happening frequently.it will go so far back that i cannot reach brakes or gas pedals.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the driver's side seat independently engaged into the easy exit position as the interior lights flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and repairs. The ignition and seat switch were replaced, however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

While driving the vehicle, the driver's seat will move backwards to the "easy exit" position without warning.it does this whenever the vehicle is jarred from road conditions or when the driver's knee bumps the ignition. This happens at low and high speeds. My wife is short and this defect moves her out of reach of the brake pedal.this happens nearly every time we drive the vehicle.this is extremely dangerous and needs to be recalled and fixed.

While driving between 50 - 65 miles per hour the electric driver seat will move back into the open door park position and the inside lights will come on.has happened multiple times since october 2014.there is no set pattern, it is completely random.

Driver seat electrical adjustment will move itself backwards while car is moving. There is no pattern to this problem, it is random.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the driver seat memory adjusting system failed and caused the driver seat to erroneously move backwards. The contact was able to move the key forward to place the seat back to normal setting. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic. The vehicle was inspected by a private mechanic who stated that the failure was located at the ignition cylinder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 65,000. Updated 3/13/13 updated 03/19/13

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer.the contact stated that while traveling 70 mph, the driver's seat moved backward independently as all of the indicator lights illuminated on the instrument panel.the contact inadvertently touched the ignition switch and the seat moved to its normal position.the contact was able to continue driving but the failure recurred.the vehicle was merged to the side of the road and once it was restarted it resumed normal operation. The failure recurred multiple times.the manufacturer was not contacted.the failure mileage was 73,800 and the current mileage 74,900.

While driving if on bumpy roads the seats will return to the open door position and inter lights come on. Making it hard to reach pedals.

When you hit a bump while driving the driver's seat moves all the way back to the easy enter/exit position and the dome light comes on.i am a short person of 5' and when this happens i cannot reach the peddles and have to extend my arms all the way to reach the steering wheel.i have to reach down and manually move the seat back.since my speed decreases suddenly i am afraid someone will rear end me one day.i understand that this is happening on more than one 2008 mercury mountaineers and to have it repaired will cost hundreds of dollars.i am retired with a disability and on a fixed income and cannot afford to have this fixed.this is a serious safety hazard and do not know why ford will not issue a recall.i hope no one is seriously or fatally injured because of this issue.

Several problems. First, the driver's power seat malfunctions. Moves while car is in motion; doesn't move when key is inserted into ignition. Was repaired about 15 months ago; same problem exists again. Secondly, rear window pops open if car is unlocked. Will only remain closed when vehicle is locked. Thirdly, rear wiper has quit working. Really strange since it is rarely used in 3 years of ownership.

I also have the same issue with the ignition causing the seats to move the easy exit position. This happens constantly while driving and is very unsafe. The interior lights come on as if the key was turned off and removed from the ignition, also causing the seat to move the exit position. When this happens, i am unable to reach the pedals and scramble to correct the issue. I see where this is happening to quite a few other owners. Something needs to be done before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

While driving the vehicle, the seat suddenly went all the way back and the interior lights came on. After a moment, the seat went back to normal position and the lights went back out. This has happened several times since then, we finally figured out it was the ignition, with the car acting like the key just got put in the ignition or just pulled out, and the seat moving all the way back for easier ingress/egress and the courtesy lights coming on. Since i am only 5 foot 2 inches, when the seat moves back i can no longer reach the petals, a very dangerous situation while driving. I hope this gets fixed before somebody gets hurt, as i have a couple friends with mountaineers, one is the same year, who have the same problem.

Memory seats change seat setting while driving without assistance of driver.while on a lengthy road trip, incident occurred 3 times.one of which nearly resulted in a collision when driver was forced onto shoulder of road to avoid traffic.driver memory seat positions itself in such a position that driver is unable to reach brake and accelerator pedals.this fault seems to maintain control of the seat for a random and unspecified amount time forcing driver to maintain vehicle control and while attempting to maintain seat position.

After approximately 90,000 miles the dome lights turned on and automatic seats move back while driving.this issue persists and often occurs several times.there are several complaints of this issue found online.it is not due to a heavy key chain as i only have the fob and key attacked. This is a safety issue as the seats pull the driver away from the pedals and steering wheel.investigate! recall!

While driving, driver seat moves forwards or backwards. Not the first time. When vehicle was purchased it happened and we brought vehicle to shop and module was replaced, now this issue is happening again causing me not able to reach brake or accelerator pedals.

The driver seat moves back when driving.no set pattern.sometimes as many as 10 times when driving and other times 1 time.no set pattern.just happens

Driver seat automatically retracts while driving. This happens at speeds from slow to fast and has been happening regularly since i bought the vehicle used in 2010.

While the vehicle is in motion, the power drivers seat moves spontaneously while driving with no warning back into the entry/exit position making it difficult to reach the brake/accelerator pedals.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the front driver's seat reclined independently as the dome light illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph the front drivers side seat slid forward independently. The interior lighting illuminated in the vehicle as if as if a door had opened. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

While driving driver seat goes backward and interiorlights goes on with out using or pushing no instruments

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the driver's seat moved all the way to the rear seats. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. ....updated 08-24-12 the consumer stated the selling dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The local ford dealer, croft (williams) sayre, pa discovered a loose ignition switch which corrected the problem. Updated 08/30/2012

While driving at 55 mph, the dome light went on and the power seat started to move back.i was unable to reach the brakes and this nearly resulted in a serious accident with my 2 kids in the car.i have owned 2 other mountaineers and never had this problem before.this is a true safety issue.this has happened again over thanksgiving 2011 and i will be calling ford asap.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. While driving various speeds, the driver seat moved independently. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

When i am driving the car the seat will move back on it's own volition into exit position. This happens when it goes over a bump or if the key is jiggled in the ignition. It happened in multiple situations last week.very frightening as i have to scramble to reach the brake and also move the seat back into position.i have turned off the easy exit option so this has stopped it but it upsets me that i no longer have a feature that i paid for.

When i hit a bump the driver seat moved in and out of position that i had set in the memory seating

Driver seat moves back into exit position and interior lights come on while driving. This happens at any speed periodically and while going over bumps. I am very short so when this happens i have a difficult time reaching the gas/brake. I have 4 young children and this is a very big safety issue while driving.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph over a road bump, the front driver's side power seat moved backward and forward independently. The interior lights began to illuminate as the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 72,222.

While driving the vehicle on the expressway the dome light went on, the driver seat went fully back and reclined a little, and the pedals moved.this action would be consistent as if the vehicle was parked and the driver was exiting the vehicle.this would not be a concern for a taller driver but for my wife who is considerably shorter could not touch the pedals which could lead into an accident.this is a recurring issue that happens at least twice while driving the vehicle daily.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that she applied the brake pedal while driving approximately 50 mph and the front drivers seat began to slide backward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The technicians stated that the ignition would have to be replaced because it was affecting the electronic feature on the seat and causing the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000. The vin was not available.

While driving the driver seat slides back into exit form and it is hard to reach the gas and brakes and the interior lights come on. This happens periodically while driving if you touch the ignition as if you are going to start the vehicle the seat will go back into place and the interior lights will go off.

While driving on the freeway, the driver's seat moved backwards. I was unable to reach the brake or gas and was nearly in an accident as i was unaware as to what was going on. The dome lights and the exterior exit lights lit up as well. Since this date, this has happened numerous times. It is a major safety issue and should become a recall.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the easy exit feature would activate causing the driver seat to move backward out of position and push the contact away from the steering wheel and pedals. The feature would also move the seat back in position while the contact was driving. The contact stated that once the easy exit feature was engaged, there was no way to stop it. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to replace a sensor the driver seat but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who installed a new wiring harness but the problem was not solved. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000

While driving the vehicle, the seat suddenly went all the way back and the interior lights came on.

**i first noticed my tire pressure light came on upon purchasing my vehicle. The dealer said that the air may have been low and could fluctuate with the weight in the vehicle. He filled the tire that appeared to have been low and it turned off momentarily. A few days later it happened again and i would add air which alleviated again in the same tire, but for a few hours later it came on again which i found out ended up being an issue with all 4 of the tires. After several attempts of filling and refilling over a period of time and using "a filler" (can of air for flat tires) is when i knew then all 4 tires are defective. The air pressure goes on and off and has now stayed on! i am lucky if it turns off at all now! the tires are firestone destination a/t tires.**also the passenger side back panel (where the gas fill-tank hole panel is) was manufactured in properly as it is severely rusting, bubbling paint, and chipping away only but in this one spot. The rust size is the only spot on the vehicle in which is about the size of the palm of my hand. **i also have an outstanding complaint already with a very dangerous faulty cruise control on this vehicle which stales the vehicle and renders it uncontrollable while driving and in motion.

Whenever i drive in town or highway, i have been having issues with the power train/transmission. It is constantly slipping and shift hard. I found out there was a recall on my exact year, make, and model. I called ford about the same exact issue i have as described by their site. But my vin# doesn't show up as one of their recalls. Which doesn't make sense. So now i have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket since they don't want to take into consideration that my vehicle is having the same exact issues as the other suv.

The retracing right step board will not return to closed position on the passenger side.

It is very difficult to see at night in a ford with a heated windshield.the lines in the windshield create glare and haze when the headlights of oncoming cars hit the windshield.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mountaineer.the contact stated that the front heated windshield gives off a glare at night.the windshield was replaced, but the glare is still present.the contact stated that the windshield causes him to feel tired.the current mileage was 1,823 and failure mileage was 23.
