The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. While driving at 10 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front driver side of the contact's vehicle. The contact's vehicle was pushed into a telephone pole. The air bags did not deploy. The contact received injuries to the head, shoulder, and chest. The contact was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
(day and mileage are approximate values). 2006 mercury mountaineer awd premier edition. In excess rainfall events, water leaks thru sunroof and down thru roof center lighting console. I've taken it to numerous places to have it evaluated. Upon receiving it from a used car dealer (respectable reputation) the sunroof leaked a day or two later. Took back to purchasing dealership and they removed entire sunroof assembly, cleaned and replaced all seals. The next rainstorm occurred and i was told to park downhill because there are very thin tubes and they clog easily, causing the water to pool up and leak thru, the center lighting console. I've even asked ford and was told bring it to my local dealership for repair. Dealership says repair will be my responsibility, and also says it may not 100% repair since they would do same services the previous establishments performed (remove, clean tracks and tubes, reseal).
Bought used in wa state and live in njnow. After purchasse it rained one night and next morning entire center console, overhead lights were all wet inside. Upon further investigation determined leak was sunroof. Notified dealer and they had a glass specialist remove the entire assembly and thoroughly clean. Replaced sealwith new one and claimed no more leakage. A few days later it rained again (wa well known for always raining) and again the leak was present. The dealer's response was now 'park your vehicle with the front end downhill. There are tiny slots that direct the water down the corner pillars and apparently clog easily. So parking with front end downhill will relieve the water before it can pool up to leak.
Truck cooling system died which caused the truck to catch fire while driving down the highway, smoke poring out, state troopers had to assist us. My daughter was scared to death and now refuses to get back in the truck even though we got a new engine. To make matters worse we spent 3000 on and engine...500 on cooling system and had thetransmission reprogrammed. The truck is still have major problems and now for says it needs the transmission rebuilt or replaced. All of this is out of pocket. We cant even trade it in bc they will only give us 1/2 of what we paid for it 2 yrs ago. Nightmare and makes me sick that ford doesn't care.
While driving, dome light illuminated and driver's seat moved to farthest position back as if exiting the vehicle.this problem is happening more frequently while driving.this problem also happens when turning on headlights or moving gear selector from park to drive or reverse.it is intermittent, but happens daily.a person shorter than i, will loose contact with break and accelerator pedals.tapping on keys may return seat to a more forward position.as an engineer, i see this as a manufacturer's safety issue that should be resolved by the manufacturer and not the customer.
The driver seat motor messed up causing the to be stationary. The seat wont move forward and backward.the air conditioning on the driver side doesn't blow cold , the dash and radio lights brighten and dim sporadically and the third row seats don't work, the gear stripped out. Also, the bushings on the feont and rear have had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the all the doors failed to open when using the key fob and the power door lock switches. The contact stated that only the front driver side door could be opened manually. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the smart junction box failed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,783.
Shortly after purchasing my mountaineer the electric running board on the driver side began to make a grinding sound. Bought from a dealer in wa state and moved to wi state where the driver side stopped and the passenger side stopped extending/retracting. Moved to nj and we had purchased the vehicle extended warranty. Began to sound like a knocking sound with little power and had towed to dealer. There they found all8 spark plugs fouled, driver side had 3 exhaust manifold bolts loose. Passenger side had same 3 loose, but also had 2 broken off in exhaust manifold plus the manifold itself had a hairline crack. In the end, i paid almost $2,000 to have driver and passenger running board and motors replaced. The rear windshield wiper motor had gone bad and was replaced, the spark plugs and all manifold bolts (along with broken) were all removed and replaced.
Vehicle stalls at random while my foot is on the gas, been in the shop now 4 times and no one can find anything wrong
The vehicle stalls in drive without warning.the dealership has been unable to determine and fix the problem.
My 2006 mercury mountaineer was leaking coolant due to a crack in the radiator.after searching online forums, i have learned that has been a long standing issue with many of this vehicles owners. Unfortunately for owners, ford issued a tbs in 2009 just in time for most of the affected vehicles' warranties to expire.some owners are on their 3rd or more radiator replacement,i am only on my first. I petition that ford recalls this issue before myself and others have to repeatedly pay for this clear design problem with their hard owned money.this problem also poses safety risk to the passengers operating these vehicles and to any animals attracted to the sweet smell of the coolant from affected vehicles whose owners who may not yet know this issue or cannot afford to fix it.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle intermittently stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that eight spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred multiple times and a coil pack was placed to prevent the spark plugs from blowing out. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that there was a leak in the radiator. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the vehicle was repaired by replacing the radiator. The failure recurred and the contact needed a second replacement however the vehicle was not repaired a second time. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The current mileage was 100,000. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while parked, a small amount of radiator fluid leaked from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the radiator was replaced four different times. In addition, the dealer informed the contact that the fan motor would need to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while approaching the vehicle, he noticed that there was antifreeze leaking onto the ground. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. The vin was unavailable. Updated 02/11/2014 the consumer stated the radiator was leaking in the seams. The radiator was eventually replaced at a cost of $400.00. Updated 02-2-/14
I purchased this vehicle recently with only 40,000 miles.the car keeps stalling or dying as you may say as i drive.it will be okay for a short period of time and then just die right on the highway!once it dies once, the car will continue to do so over and over again until the engine has cooled down.i have the engine codes of p2104, p2111 and p2135 with a refere to p2101. I have brought it to several mechanics and paid well over $1,000 to fix this problem and it just continues.i am afraid my family may all die!were on 93 recently heading toward boston and my car died right at the intersection of 495.i had all my children in the car and it would not restart.i have fixed the fuel system (error code last time), had a complete tune up, and throttle sensor etc.
Vehicle starting missing, then shaking.had spark plugs replaced and 3 broke off and stuck.needed special tool/equipment to get out. Very costly.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed the temperature light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis. The contact was informed that the engine and radiator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired.one year later, the failure recurred and the radiator was replaced. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 75,000. The current mileage was unknown.
"takata recall" engine always turns off while driving. I fixed it at 3 different workshops and still the same.
"takata recall" painting, seats electric, light of the engine.
Purchased in june 2009 and have had problem after problem. Mountaineer premier awd. Transmission issue, feels like you're getting hit from behind when coming to a stop. Radiator leaks. Back lift gate randomly opens, won't latch. When it rains, water comes in through the interior light mount and through dvd player. Spark plugs not easily replaced, broke off and had to be towed to a shop for removal. Gas unable to be pumped properly i can put in .25 at a time if i'm lucky. It takes 20 minutes to pump half a tank of gas. I love the features this vehicle has but this has been such a hassle.
I am on my 3rd radiator, there should be a recall on the radiators.
I have gone through 3 radiators so far and now i need a 4th. This time, the radiator caused the pumps to start leaking ( which are not serviceable) and eventually ruined my transmission, rendering the truck non-drivable.this problem has cost me thousands of dollar and i want a recall to start on this part with ford.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the radiator continued to leak coolant. The contact stated that the radiator was previously replaced twice for the exact same failure. The leaking had not caused the vehicle to overheat but the contact stated that the coolant odor was overwhelming from the vehicle interior. The contact called the manufacturer and they stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and there were no recalls so they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was 96,000.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer.the contact stated anti-freeze fumes were inside of the vehicle and a pregnant passenger became ill from the fumes. The contact later discovered that the anti-freeze was leaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.the manufacturer had not been notified of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired.the current mileage was 55,000 and the failure mileage was 42,000.the vin was unavailable.
The radiator coolant system is junk. Busted seals and hoses all the time. I am beginning to think this car is a lemon. I replaced my radiator less than 1 year ago, had the part replaced with the factory part ford supplies and once again i have a busted seal and have to replace the radiator again. When are they going to recall this part? seriously i've done my research and the radiators on these vehicles busting isn't an isolated incident. Is ford going to pay $400.00 dollars every 6 or so months to replace my radiator. I wish someone would file a class action law suit or something.
The exhaust system from the catalytic converter disengaged.
Vehicle needed a radiator. The dealership replaced the radiator and continues to leak antifreeze causing vehicle to over heat.
Please investigate ford mercury faulty radiators. There is a design flaw and should be recalled.
In july 2009 at 40000 miles the radiator had a hairline fracture and the radiator had to be replaced, paid out of pocket by owner. In march 2010, at 60000 miles, another radiator is being put in this vehicle, again out of pocket expense for owner. There should not be a need for a vehicle to have had 3 radiators at 60000 miles. The dealership states this is a known issue with this model and that these are poorly placed and manufactured radiators. Ford/mercury should recall these vehicles and reimburse out of pocket expenses for anyone that has proof of radiators being replaced.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that there was a leak from the radiator and the contact had to fill the radiator constantly. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or a repair shop for diagnostics or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. The current mileage was 68,000. Updated 07/10/13*lj
2006 mercury mountaineer.consumer writes in regards to failure of the water manifold housing.the consumer stated he was driving 70 mph, when the engine light illuminated.the vehicle began to overheat and steam was coming from under the hood. The water manifold housing had come apart, allowing water to boil out. The housing was plastic and made of two parts. The top and bottom were glued together and within the total circumference of about 18 inches, there were only three bolts between the top and bottom housings to secure the two parts together, except the glue. The consumer believed the construction was not enough to keep them from separating under pressure. It appeared, the design created a tendency for the top plate to pull away from the lower housing. The consumer attempted to install a new housing, but he discovered the engine was misfiring, so the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, where the long block assembly was replaced.
The radiator keeps leaking, first dealer said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, i am always putting coolant in the vehicle.you can smell the coolant as soon as you open the hood.this has been an ongoing problem since i had 53,000 miles and now that i have 122,000 miles it is getting worse and has to be repaired again.
Radiator defect in 2006 mercury mountaineer. Replaced at 40,000 miles and at 80,000 miles. Not covered under warranty and not recalled as of yet.
Had a leak in my radiator when the truck had less then 25,000 (summer of 2009?) miles logged on it. Took it to the dealership and they replaced it for free because it was under warranty.again this spring, with my odometer at 52000 miles, it has another leak and i was quoted $800 to get it replaced because it is no longer under warranty. This is b.s.! obviously it is a known problem. I have not had it fixed yet because i don't have the time to leave it at the dealership, or the $800 to replace a radiator that should not need to be replaced after such a short amount of use. This issue needs to be rectified by ford! it has made me never want to buy another ford vehicle, ever!
My 2006 mercury mountaineer has a problem with the a/c fan unit.the a/c fan will not decrease in blower intensity even if manually downgrading the fan or turning up the temperature.does not matter whether you are in auto or manual a/c mode.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the radiator started to overheat. The driver was able to continue driving and added water to the radiator. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that the failure was caused by normal wear and tear. In addition, he noticed that when shifting from park to reverse, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk violently into the correct gear. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000. The vin was unavailable.
I have leak in my radiator, and after doing some research on the internet i found out that there is alot of complaints about that type of radiator in that vehicle, and every one of the cases is identical and now i am the next victim of this radiator failure. Some thing needs to be done about the radiator problems mercury is having on the 2006 mountaineers. My vehicle is very well maintained and don't even have 60,000 miles on it yet.i completely understand there will always be some kind of mechanical issues to deal with nothing last forever, but most radiators usually outlast the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking coolant. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the radiator would need to be replaced. The contact mentioned that he had the radiator replaced a total of three times as a result of the same failure. The manufacturer was not contacted in regards to the failure and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 63,000.
Had to replace radiator at 36,500 miles.purchased vehicle on sept 9, 2009 as a certified mercury vehicle and within 3 months had a leak in the radiator that needed to be replaced.
As of april 18,2011 my radiator is cracked and i have to replace it for the third time. My mercury mountaineer is a 2006 and in 2008 i had to replace the radiator which cost me around 800.00 with labor and here we are in april of 2011 and i have to replace my radiator again. This is costing me to much money and with all these complaints about the radiator, you would think that they would have a recall on the 2006 mercury mountaineer radiator. Somebody needs to do something about this because a radiator should not have to be replace 3 or more time in less then 5 years. Please do something about this. Thanks
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while the vehicle was having a regular maintenance performed the mechanic noticed the radiator was cracked. Also, the temperature gauge did not indicate that the vehicle was hot. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the radiator was cracked causing a leakage and it needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted who refused to provide any assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage 42,000 and current mileage was 48,000.
Had to replace two radiators within 30,000 miles of replacement. Exactly how many complaints, or should i say deaths (?) are needed to trigger an investigation of a company gladly receiving assistance while outputting inferior vehicles. No vehicle manufactured in 2006 should need three new radiators within 3 year and 70k miles. Stop letting ford off the hook and get serious about getting to the bottom of their issues. Just do a search on 2006 mercury mountaineer and you will clearly see there are issues with the cooling as well as the automatic transmission. In fact, our model has the same issue that others have reported with the automatic transmission and it will sometimes no moves gears, slip a gear, and tug like it is pulling out of mud at a stop light. Open a full blown investigation into their lack of quality control and the lack of professionalism on the part of the dealerships for not reporting this to corporate.
Cracked radiator with only 41,000 miles.dealership indicated repair cost would be $1,000.when i questioned possible defect they said they had no recalls but also indicated they had just replaced another one last week.i called another dealership to check price they estimated $750 and also indicated they had to replace 2-3 in the last few months.judging from this site and others this is a major defect with 2006 ford explorers and mountaineers.why doesn't anyone hold the manufacturer accountable?
Broken radiator in my 2006 mercury mountaineer with 52,000 miles.
My 2006 mercury mountaineer radiator needs replacing because it is busted. I only havean estimate of 65,000 miles on it. The part will cost me $285.00 not including the labor. This vehicle is only 4 years old how could a part like this already need replacing.
Radiator leak. Complete radiator was replaced with new radiator and hoses and still leaked. I believe ford's radiators are defective.
Radiator has failed a second time in 3 years on 2006 mercury mountaineer.
The radiator in the 2006 ford explorer/mercury mountaineer is a weak link in the vehicle. My radiator is leaking and i'm not the only one, i have found other complaints of this on other explorers and mountaineers of this year.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the radiator was leaking on the upper right hand side of the vehicle. He had to replace the radiator three times due to the identical failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that there was a leak and stated that the radiator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 95,000.
2006 mercury mountaineerdriving on the highway, suddenly the coolant temperature went up crazily and the engine sounded horrible and lost power. Fortunately stopped by the roadside and found the radiator was leaking and coolant is almost empty. Searched around the web and found that for 4.0 engine from ford and mercury, this is pretty normal problem due to a design defect. People are changing radiator every year. Never heard such ridiculous thing that nowadays the radiator last so short time. It should last life time of the car. Ford apparently knew it, however, they only announced a tsb in 2009 when most of the warranties were gonna expire. They should issue a recall. This is a design problem and it poses life threatening risks. I guess they just don't care about customers. The customers need to repair out of they own pockets, which support ford's chain dealers service departments. Well, sounds a good plan for them. Well, the customers are not stupid. They are change to japanese cars, which have far less problems. I will never a ford?mercury car and would be glad to see them go bankruptcy.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that he noticed a puddle of unknown fluids leaking from the vehicle. He then took the vehicle to a independent mechanic and they advised him that the radiator was fractured and causing the leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that there were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,300.updated 06/16/11*ljupdated 06/21/11
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. He has experienced several failures with the vehicle. In an attempt to diagnose the failure the vehicle was taken to several different repair centers, to no avail. When contacting his local dealer the contact was advised that the vehicle would need several repairs including a failed radiator, thermostat, water pump, brake drums, rotors and a grease treatment, all at his own expense. The manufacturer was contacted and would not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000 and the current mileage was 107,253.
There is a big problem with the 2006 mercury mountaineers and ford explorers with the v6's radiator.at very low mileages the radiator separates at the seams on the side causing a leak.this is very dangerous and expensive.i have done research on the problem and it is terrible that you only get 40k or less out of a radiator.there needs to be a recall on this problem!!!please help.
Radiator began leaking in my 2006 mercury mountaineer at 51,500 miles.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the radiator was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the three way heater hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. While drivingapproximately 40 mph, the contact noticed the temperature gauge displayed a "high temperature" reading. The vehicle was pulledover to the side of the road and the engine was turned off. The engine overheated with excessive leakage of coolant. The contact dispensed coolant into the radiator reservoir. The vehicle was able to continue for approximately ten miles before the identical failures recurred in which the radiator required additional coolant. The failures occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The authorized dealer was notified of the malfunctions and they informed that there was a technical service bulletin regarding the engine and engine cooling: cooling system: radiator assembly. The bulletin number was 0638. The vehicle was not being driven at the time of the complaint due to the potential safety hazard. The failure mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the radiator was cracked and had to be replaced twice. The dealer replaced the radiator six years ago and also needed replacing recently. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 95,000.updated 9/12/12
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. While the contact was driving approximately 2 mph in a parking lot, there was a strong odor of anti-freeze coming from the vehicle. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation at anygiven speed being traveled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The failure was contributed to a crack in the radiator which caused excessive anti-freeze leakage. The mechanic advised the anti-freeze leakage was a common problem. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the compliant. The failure mileage was 33,244.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer.the contact started the vehicle and it immediately stalled.the vehicle was towed to a local dealer and they stated that the entire computer system failed and was replaced.two months later, the engine light illuminated.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there was emission failure.the contact also began experiencing failures with the front passenger window and the frame was replaced.the engine light still continued to illuminate and the dealer stated that it was due to the catalytic converter, in addition to the transmission.the dealer did not know how to repair the failures.the current mileage was 1,500 and failure mileage was 411.

The mercury mountaineer will no longer take in fuel properly. Can not put in more than a half a gallon of gas at a time. Took it to a mechanic and they said there was nothing blocking the gas from entering the tank. He said it was the automatic fuel shut off that was installed in the vehicle. Have not replaced it yet.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the automatic fuel pump shut off would activate whenever fuel was dispensed into the fuel tank at any fuel level capacity.in 2009, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the fuel valve was replaced. The similar failure recurred and the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 03/16/12 the consumer stated the vehicle would only take a gallon of gas. Updated 05/11/12

The contact rented a 2006 mercury mountaineer.while making a left turn at approximately 5-10 mph, the contact applied too much pressure to the accelerator pedal and the vehicle sped forward.the contact applied the brakes and the emergency brake, but the vehicle did not decelerate or stop.the vehicle crashed into four parked vehicles.both passengers were transported to the hospital, but only the front passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered bruises and soreness.a police report was filed.the vehicle was destroyed and towed.the vin, powertrain, engine size, purchase date, and number of cylinders were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 6,000.
Have sent a complaint recently no one has contacted me i've seen on line hundreds of complaints due to faulty transmissions on ford, and mercury mountaineer esp 20001- thru 2012 models and had a 2004 last yr. I had to send to junkyard because transmission was bad and would also stop while driving esp. On highways at speeds over 55 mph many close calls and lucky i wasnt injured or killled due to trouble with transmission not shifting and becoming unresponsive to where it had to be towed several times when transmission became unresponsive now my 2006 mountaineer awd has similar problems and every one i have tried to purchase as a replacement also has had problems with their transmissions failing so need some advice as to what can be done to correct these issues!.....as in past i stated it fails loses power and transmission fails while driving on highway after slowing down or coming to stop at lights or stop signs it usually is unresponsive and cant get out of low gear and or completely will not go thru gears normally!....have heard only 2011 models have been recalled recently not fair in my opinion that no one has paid attention to the earlier model ford explorer and mountaineer especially in my case o4-08 have all had exact problems similar to my current 06 mountaineer awd....as severalmechanics recently refuse to work on it telling me they are not worth their time and no guarantees as they feel that they are all faulty from 02-2012 and all shuld have been recalled due to safety issues!.....in my opinion i believe this shuld be looked into before it becomews the cause of an accident or worse...i am disabled and need a safer vehicle and in hopes ford will make right by me and possibly look into and or see about a recall on my 06 mercury mountaineer!. Thanks for any time and help! referring to the unsafe drivetrain yet again i am having with now.
I purchased the 2006 mercury mountaineer in july 2011. When i went to take the kids on vacation the car hesitated and stopped on the highway then felt like we were rear ended, very dangerous with the hesitation on acceleration almost crashed. Called the place i purchased they have now replaced the torque converter and reset the tcm the vehicle is even worse and they also have had it for 34 days on and off. Called ford they said they have no program to fix and will not replace the transmission which needs to be replaced. The dealer reports without a bad code even though they know the vehicle is hazardous they cannot find the problem to fix, i said please just replace the transmission and unfortunately to no avail i have purchased a $18,000 hazard that i only was able to drive for 30 days, traded my other vehicle and gave them $1600 cash for downpayment i just want my vehicle fixed....
My 2006 mercury mountaineer has intermittently jolted or lurched forward when stopping for lights and stop signs after speeds over 30 mph.hasn't gotten away from me but feels as if i am going to hit something or someone ahead of me.extremely scary when people are in cross walk.i took my car to the ford dealer shortly after buying it used.the dealer checked it out and denied it was happening.that was years ago and tonight i saw numerous complaints on another website about this problem.was looking because now i am getting a grinding noise from my wheels which persists after a brake job that didn't fix it as i thought.both problems are separate but i see a pattern of them on this vehicle now.
The gear shaft will stop my car from starting when i turn it off. It will also make my car vut off while driving..the button on the gear stick will get stuck and i am able to shift gears...when the car is not started and my foot is not on the breaks.even when the button is not stuck, it still will get stuck in park and wont let me start my car..a recall should be started..because i have seen others on here with similar complaints..so its a manufacturing accident not the consumer.
While the vehicle was stationary, it would not reverse when prompted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,758.
When at cruising speed trans feels like it is surging as if trying to downshift but never quite does, from a dead stop trans sometimes feels like it cannot pull vehicle's weight.
My car will jerk as i'm driving rpms going high while no speed is picking up. With jump out of gear when at stop light. Loud grinding noise from tires could have foot all the waydown on gas petal and go no faster.
2nd mountaineer owned transmission will not shift in low gears and unresponsive. Stalled in town and on highway at high speeds almost causing collisions several times after becoming unresponsive while driving.
My car has had a continuing problem with the transmission.it shifts roughly and lurches when beginning to move.for example, when stopped at a stoplight, and then beginning to drive, it will lurch, jolting the passengers.our driveway is sloped toward the street.when i park the car, i always set the emergency brake as well.the car always rolls a few inches before the brakes lock, even though it is stopped and in park.on sep. 4, 2009, my mother borrowed my car to go to lunch.she couldn't find the emergency brake release.she put the car in park and got out to locate the emergency brake.she found it and released it.the car popped into reverse and rolled backwards to the street.the door knocked my mother down and she hit her head hard enough to sustain a closed head injury with minor bleeding in her brain.the car rolled across the street, over the curb and hit a neighbor's poplar tree.the entire tailgate was destroyed, there was some interior damage and the frame was warped.the tailgate had to be replaced, the bumper and trailer hitch had to be repaired and the frame straightened.my mother was in hospital overnight and had to have two ct-scans.she still has headaches and transient dizziness.we are just fortunate the car didn't run her over, hit a pedestrian (there are a lot of walkers in our neighborhood), hit a car or a neighbor's house.
2006 mercury mountaineer.the transmission has problems.it punches in and out of gears, makes a loud grinding noise and pulls the car to the left.it has problems going into reverse.it does not happen all the time but i would say about 3 to 4 times a week.it is not safe to drive when the car does this.i am driving my 1 year old in this car and i have to concentrate so hard to make the car go straight and to put minimal pressure on the gas pedal so it doesn't jerk us too hard.it is at the dealership now and from what i have read online they will try to put a bandaid on the problem until the warranty runs out!this car only has 26,000 miles on it!i just bought it used about 8 months ago.
2006 mercury mountaineer slipped out of parked in driveway and hit mother inlaws 2005 gmc envoy. This is one of a hand full of times it has slipped off park. Took it to the dealership 3 times and nothing, now i am fighting with grand ledge ford, grand ledge, mi to get it fix or replace the transmission before someone get seriously hurt or even dies. This is a very scary situation and needs to be recalled as soon as possible.
2006 mercury mountaineer transmission problems. Hesitation, funny shifting. Could get someone in trouble by the random shifting problem. Ford dealer i went to said they had never heard of the problem. When you google this it is a problemthanks
Bought this mercury mountaineer march 2007.worse vehicle ever owned.most of the time when stopping i get that thud noise.i feel like i got hit from the behind.when in traffici worry alot also.i bought this truck in 7 times and problem still occurs.dealership will not fix it until i show them the problem.i told them it does not happen everyday.with my luck it did not happen when i was there.
My car is 2006 mercury mountaineer in 2007 already the shift had to be replaced as it continually got stuck. One dealer told me the shift needed to changed yet again and now when the car is taken out of park into any gear it wont move it takes about 25 mins to actually put into gear. The dealer said it was a shift solenoid ihad it replaced a transmission flush and reprogram and still the same problem the car only has 62,000 miles.
Vehicle would not shift gears. 4 rpms at 25 mph.vehicle slowed. Pulled over and front brakes were on fire.
When i stop my tranny kicks and it feels like i got hit in the rear.i took it too fm dealer and they adjusted the comp, but didn't fix the prob. It got worse.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that when the gear was shifted from drive to park the vehicle did not move.she took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the shift solenoid needed to be replaced and the transmission flushed.the dealer performed the repairs and the following day the vehicle began to experience the same failure. The vehicle also made a loud thumping noise while shifting into reverse. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was waiting for them to complete the diagnostic test. The was concerned since the failure was a major safety issue that needed to be addressed. The failure mileage was 62,000.
My 2006 mountaineer has transmission problems. While coming to a stop at a light there is a loud "pop" or thud like noise as if the transmission is popping into place. Also transmission slips when going forward.it jerks especially at low speeds such as pulling out of a parking space. There is definitely something wrong with the transmission. Poor design or manufacturing but definitely something is wrong. You feel like you have been struck from behind when the popping/thud noise occurs at a light. Very unsettling. Also car lurches forward when pulling off from a standing position such as at a light and you feel like your going to hit the car in front of you.
Transmission kicks from 2nd gear to 1st gear when coming to a stop.it is intermittent and jarring to the vehicle and passengers.the vehicle was taken in for repair to an authorized dealership.the transmission fluid was changed and the computer was reflashed, however the problem with the shift shock continues.
My truck has 115,000 miles on it, transmission is now gone. When i put it in reverse it would jerk back like the it was being hit, all of sudden it started dragging while driving, and having problems shifting into gear, and now its totally gone...only had the vehicle two years.
I have just purchased a used 2006 mercury mountaineer awd v8.when the vehicle is coming to a stop, the transmission lunges forward as it is downshifting.it feels just like another vehicle has hit my vehicle from behind.this is a dangerous situation since as the vehicle lunges forward, it could hit a pedestrian in a cross walk or hit another vehicle in front of me.
2006 mercury mountaineer has transmission problems. Consumer states that his vehicle has been service several times but the problem is not fixed.*njthe consumer stated the transmission would slip, most noticeably in frigid temperatures.
I bought my 2006 mercury mountaineer april 26, 2006. I started having the transmission problems december 2006.when you put on breaks to stop you hear a thud and the vehicle will actual throw you forward in the seat.it feels like you might not actually stop when it first happens. This happens daily.thefist time i took the vehicle in and left it with them, they drove it and said they did not find anything.january 2007 i took the car back to them and they did dive it and have the same problem.the called ford and ford told them there was a recall on it and they needed to put it on the computer and do a recalibrating.they did this and the problem was gone for a week and it returned.i took it back to them and they replaced a part in the transmission, this lasted a week and it started the same thing again.i am now still fussing with them about getting if fixed.they kept it 5 days last week and did nothing to it.i had an appointment with a ford rep. Last week and this past week and he did not show for either appointment.
2006 mercury mountaineer v8 awd--when shifting from park to drive or reverse it "clunks" hard into gear. The wrench symbol and the engine symbol light up. The vehicle also drives hard as if it isn't changing gears. The dealership will only say that the ford tsb recommends replacing the transmission fluid and filter, then resealing with foam seal first but refuses to give me an actual diagnosis of what is going on with the car. They can not tell me the real problem and insist that we will have to work through the various steps on the ford tsbs which may or may not work (by their own admission) and the cost of final repairs is completely open ended. When i questioned what we would try next after the transmission fluid/filter replacement (because i was skeptical about this causing the issue on a vehicle with only 43,000 miles) they had no answers at all. We have owned this vehicle less than a year. An internet search reveals that this is a major ongoing problem with this model but ford refuses to own up to it. There needs to be a recall.
I own a 2006 mercury mountaineer (v8 awd). Everytime i stop the transmission jolts forward as if we have been involved in a rear-end collision. I have called ford motor company to complain and they have agreed that there is a problem but not to the degree that they would initiate a recall. This is very dangerous and someone is eventually going to get hurt if not killed.
I received my vehicle 1/18/2006 a mercury mountaineer. On my survey that i returned to ford in march of 2006, i told them that i hated their " slip-o-matic " transmission. I do not have all the visits documented but the second problem we had was the vehicle would come to a stop at a stop light and then a few seconds later you would feel a "thud" like you were hit from behind by another vehicle. We had the transmission reprogrammed and the valve replaced and that problem seemed to be resolved. But the slipping through the gears continued to be a persistent problem. It is almost as if when you pull out into the highway that you are in suspended animation for1 to 1.5 seconds. This is particularly unsettling when crossing several lanes of traffic from a stopped position... Like pulling out of a gas station (with the traffic) while a semi is coming up behind you real fast or turning across traffic with out the green arrow and you really have to get across quickly sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. This occurs randomly but yet approximately 10 to 20 times a week. Right now the suv is in the service center. I have requested the next repair to be performed via tsb 07-13-8 but the dealer is insisting that i must demonstrate the problem before they will repair it per above mentioned tsb....... They took my word before for the reprogramming and the valve replacement but now they do not seem to believe me anymore.
V8 mountaineer jolts when you come to stop, feels like it has been rear ended, no accidents at this point, but there has been a few close calls.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer.the contact stated that the vehicle would lunge backwards when driving in reverse.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the manufacturer was not notified of the issue.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.
2006 mercury mountaineer shifts hard when going into reverse, and is also starting to shift hard from 2nd to 3rd gear. Have heard from many there people with 2006 ford explorers that there is a manufacturer defect in the transmission. Have had chip reprogrammed at dealership (was charged) and also had transmission flushed and it is actually worse now.my mountaineer has 58,000 miles on this and has been doing this for the past 2,000 miles. Ford should fix this issue.
Transmission problems that resulted after recalibration in response to recal notice.vehicle now lurches forward by itself when stopped at a traffic light.one needs to stand on the brakes to prevent vehicle from striking other vehicles.
The transmission in my 2006 mercury mountaineer has "popped" into reverse twice once it was placed into park, causing it to roll backwards.it also rolls forward and backwards when placed in park until it "catches" and finally locks in place.when climbing hills or steep grades, the transmission will surge, and when coming to a stop, the transmission will shift hard and jerk.
Mountaineer premier awd with just over 150,000 miles. Went to raise rear (third row) electrical seat on driver/left side. Makes a slight clicking sound and will raise up about 1 inch, then just stops going up with sounds still heard. Further investigation shows a motor in the center along a gear shaftwhich must raise the seat. The motor is whirring like it is functioning but the shaft doesn't move. There is no way to manually fully raise the seat.
My mercury mountainers 2006 third row right seat got jammed while my son was seated in the left seat next to it almost pinching him in the seat and i looked at a couple of websites and it states many people are having the same problem i think they should look into this problem before some one gets hurt.

My driver seat moves back and forth and the interior indicator light comes on when i am driving.i have to stop and turn off the car and restart it so it will stop.

Vehicle exhibited resistance in steering. Ford dealer found lower steering shaft u-joint frozen from corrosion.ford dealer stated this condition was similar to that seen for vehicles recalled under ford recall 13508 and even though it is not currently included, felt this vehicle should be included in the recall. Dealer had to replace the lower steering shaft assembly to return the vehicle to a safe operating condition.

I have a 2006 mercury mountaineer with auto running boards. The running boards seem to have a mind of their own. Both have been replaced by the dealer, the latest was 5-5-09. Today when our daughter was entering the passenger side the running board opened up like it was supposed to but closed at once onto our daughter foot. The passenger door was still open when it closed and the running boardwould not retract. We were very lucky not to have suffered serious injury. If she had been 7 instead of 15 i would hate to think what might have happened.

2006 mercury mountaineer, 123,000 miles. Notice (bottom) ofbox subframe, located rear driver side only. Foward of rear axle, has excessive corrosion in a length of 8 to 10 inches. Corrosion has rotted through this area.vehicle has 123000 miles on it. Also vehicle has surface corrosion all over bottom of subframe.ford did not apply corrosion coatings on this sub frame properly. This could be a hazard for other vehicles as well as time goes on. Notice other ford vehicles have numerous problems and recalls with sub frame corrosion, ranging from 2001 through 2014. Ford's vendors that fabricate these parts should be updated with modern procedures to apply corrosion prevented coatings on these parts properly.should be a recall on these sections for repair... No accidents, no issues, as time goes on there maybe problems in the future with ford products sub frame corrosion resulting in accidents on roads.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury mountaineer. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance when the technician advised that the rear driver side wheel bearing, hub, a-ring and hub assembly needed to be replaced. The in addition, the rear driver side wheel was detaching from the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the failure was deemed as normal wear and routine maintenance would need to be performed on the wheels. The contact stated that the repair was not listed in the owner's manual as routine maintenance. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80.000.
2006 mercury mountaineer driving along around town or highway and will just loose power without warning after the fact then the engine light comes on along witha red wrench or an orange wrench, first place i had it to said it was a negative battery cable that was loose so they tightened the cable, took it home stalled out on me, took it to another dealer said was reading that it was the fuel pump driver module drove very next day stalled on me once again taking it to the ford dealer itself said could be a number of things one is that the mass air flow has exposed wire which they will be fixing that and cleaning out the electrical throttle body and see how that is if not then they will try replacing the torque convertor clutch circuit for one this needs to stop being a guessing game i'm not a millionaire i used my 401k to purchase this vehicle, its such a huge safety issue while on the main highway and just up and stopped on me luckily i was able to drift over to the side of the road in the meanwhile with a tractor trailer coming up behind me with several other traffic huge safety concern ford contacted by the one garage and they "wasn't sure" what it could be, well it stops anytime while driving anywhere such a huge safety hazard someone has to know something without having to just "guess" the situation. Also every time it rains the water seeps thru the sunroof and the overhead light you can see it came thru the liner itself when it dries up, so heartbreaking because i fell in love with this vehicle that i have only had for about a year and half.

Owner of a 2006 mercury mountaineer.i purchased my vehicle in february 2010. The retractable running boards do not operate properly.sometimes up then down one up the other down.disconnecting motor or pulling fuses are not the answers.steel mixed with aluminum pins is bad but can be fixed.i reviewed numerous on-line complaints and wanted to know why this item has not been recalled.the boards half way down is a constant trip hazard when getting in and out of the vehicle.1500 dollars to replace the entire unit is the wrong answer.this is clearly a design problem on a great vehicle
The rear window hinges disintegrated and the rear windowfell off.we were not in motion and just in lifting the window it cracked off.in researching there was a recall in 2004 for the same exact issue for the same make/manufacturer .the problem however was never fixed in the years that followed and sadly there has been no subsequent recallsif i small child was behind the window they could have been seriously injured or if the car was in motion the window could have cracked and fallen off. After calling the ford motor company they responded that for my make and model year the recall doesn't apply but to hold on to my receipt just in case..... Please see attached pictures of the hinges, the parts alone cost over $150
I live in quincy, ma. When it snows or gets cold the car intermittently, majority of time in reverse, locks in reverse, self accelerating, and even when i brake it overrides the braking system. Last night it actually self displayed the 4x4 light on dashboard. When i mean accelerates, i mean uncontrollable acceleration.
My car will jerk as i'm driving rpms going high while no speed is picking up. With jump out of gear when at stop light. Loud grinding noise from tires could have foot all the waydown on gas petal and go no faster.

My car will jerk as i'm driving rpms going high while no speed is picking up. With jump out of gear when at stop light. Loud grinding noise from tires could have foot all the waydown on gas petal and go no faster.
