I have a 2005 mercury monterey van that i've own brand new. I was driving to work this morning on the expressway and the driver sideair bag deployed and passenger sideair bag deployed and passenger side seat air bag deployed for no reason. Could have caused a bad accident!
The contact owned a 2005 mercury monterey. While driving approximately 55 mph, the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle crashed and rolled over multiple times. The air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained lacerations and bruises to the torso while the front passenger sustained bruises to the right arm. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an undisclosed location. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 110,000.
Takata recall. Traveling on road approximately 45-50 mph. Tried ro avoid hitting some deer who suddenly ran out from the woods in front if my van. The front passenger tire deflated after it hit the ditch. Then the van swerved into the ditch and flipped over twice. Front windshield came out back window came out. Roof of vehicle was crushed. Passenger side was crushed after the rollover. None of the airbags deployed.

Stall engine with no power for forward or reverse.malfunction indicator comes on and the vehicle will not start for more than couple seconds.multiple abs and drive codes based on the eec test.repair shop inspects the vehicle and found water intrusion to the powertrain control module (pcm) and the connector pins where short out.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when the vehicle suddenly accelerated, the contact depressed the brakes but the vehicle would not respond. After utilizing the parking brake, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics. The technician stated that water had entered the wiring of the computer system and caused the failure. The technician dried the wiring but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer again, where the technicians replaced the computer but the contact continued to experience the failure. There was also a failure with the rear passenger side sliding door, which would sporadically open with the vehicle parked and the key removed from the ignition.in addition, the fuel level gauge displayed an inaccurate amount of fuel and all of the instrument panel lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000.updated 5/11/12 the consumer stated the computer also was wet and caused system failure in february 2010.it was replaced then. Last brakes twice. March 12, 2012 vehicle would not reverse and raced in neutral, torque converter failed. Handicap lift failed. Updated 06/14/2012
Multiple times loss of power and ability to drive. Rpm's jumped all over and vehicle would stall or not start at all. In and out of shop over 2 months leaving me without a vehicle or driving a loaner car. Finally replaced pcm and wiring harness. Not even a year later the exact same problem is occurring again and warranty is expired. Also found out another vehicle was in the shop at the same time with the same problem.
The computer system in the van has malfunctioned in the exact same way twice.it says the rear sliding door is open when it is, in fact, closed.it also beeps for 60 seconds every time you stop and start going again.this has already been taken in and repaired twice.it is more than a hassle for us to get the van in to be repaired due to having infants and working a very strict schedule in the military... Which is why we bought a new vehicle.
It was raining and my vehicle kept going into neutral and stalling.i'd press the gas, nothing would happen.it wouldn't go into reverse.when i put it in neutral the engine just revved up.putting it park was ok.check engine codes p0715 and p0340 appeared.a flashing check engine light (!), and solid check engine light appeared.putting in drive, it would only go into 3rd gear.1st gear worked if i moved the prndl to 1.reverse didn't work at all.i could have easily been killed if this happened while driving anywhere but my neighborhood.this is different from the recent torque converter recall that is also scary and also results in loss of forward momentum.my problem is with the pcm.the dealer performed diagnostics and repairs according to ford's tsb 06-14-10 which indicates this is a common problem on all 1999-2007 ford vans.if they've known about this for 7 years, and it affects nearly a million vehicles, why hasn't it been recalled?surely nhtsa has received complaints about this.i have a friend who had this happen on her 2004 ford van within the last year.she also lost reverse and the car would limp in drive just like mine did.the repair shop knew exactly what to do and repaired her pcm.i've asked her to file a nhtsa complaint as well.this is a safety concern.i paid my ford dealer to fix because my safety is at stake, and obviously because the vehicle was performing sub-par, but i feel this particular issue should be covered by ford, not by the customer, just as was done with the recent rear seat rust and torque converter recalls on this same vehicle.this is no different.it is beyond normal wear and tear.
My 2005 mercury van died without warning and after taking it in for repair, was informed it was the pcm module or computer that failed due to moisture.the cost of repairs is $962 and the module design is defective allowing moisture to cause the part to fail.the part is mounted in the front cowl and not protected nor sealed from weather.research has shown that this is a widespread problem on this model and many horrific safety incidents have happened with the van's failure. Ford should be held accountable for this defect!

I received a recall notice -11s25/nhtsa recall 12v-006 in march, 2012. This recall relates is regarding a worn spline in the transmission torque converter. Ford claims parts would be in 2nd quarterof2012.i called my dealer, and told parts will not be inuntil 1st week in june. Waited.called dealer and ford - parts now will be in the end of june. So i called [xxx]at vehicle safety hotline case # [xxx] and made complaint.called ftc on 6/7/12 and also made complaint. Reference # [xxx].june and then july came and went - no parts.august - i receive a letter from ford stating the parts are in, and they want to have the "recall performed as soon as possible" called my ford dealerthe day the letter arrived- they claim they do not have the parts yet, and they would call. It is september 4. Labor day has come and gone - no fixed van.obviously they say recall, but have no intention of fixing my vehicle. February 19, 2009 my van broke down.i needed to replace my transmission due to "electronic transmission diag no pump pressure has internal broken part need to r&i trans-axle. Found stripped pump shaft into torque. Replaced torque converter" this cost me $1829.60.i still have the original receipt. My dealer is claiming i cannot even submit this bill to ford for "potentially"reimbursement, (by a ford committee of course) for this until my van is worked on - once he parts from the recall are in. I feel i have paid for this recall already, and am being totally screwed.please advise. Thank you for you time -information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I purchased my 2005 mercury monterey in feb/march 2018, in july of 2018 i go out to start my van to leave and nothing happens wont start, so we look under the hood every thing seems fine, i call the tow truck to have it towed to the shop, oil spills out all over my driveway, there is a huge hole in the engine, so we had a used engine put in march 2019, sept 2019 i go to start my van and nothing, this time i get out and notice a huge puddle of oil.. We get down to look to see why and yet again there is another hole in the "newer" engine!
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that the service engine warning indicator illuminated while shifting from park into reverse. In addition, the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was unable to be driven. Rivertown ford (1680 whittlesey rd, columbus, ga 31904, (706) 653-7420) indicated that the power train control module needed to be replaced and that the part would need to be ordered. In addition, it was stated that water intrusion caused the failure. The vehicle was not included in a warranty campaign. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign numbers: 06e056000 (fuel system, gasoline) and 12v006000 (power train) as possible causes of the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that the vehicle completely shut down several times while driving between 10 and 45 mph. There was no power in the vehicle when the failure occurred. Occasionally, the vehicle would restart on its own and other times he had to wait a few minutes before it would start. On two occasions the vehicle had to be towed. There were no warning lights prior to the failure. He took the vehicle to the dealer four times and was told that they could not retrieve any codes to pinpoint the failure. Many components (sensor computer chips, engine detox and all the spark plugs) were replaced but none repaired the failure. He called the manufacturer and received no response to-date. The vehicle identification number was not available at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was 70,162. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
My 2005 mercury monterey van just stalled without warning on a busy highway. No steering or power brakes worked well.took it to dealer and they replace the cam crank shaft. Drove it 2-3 weeks and it happened again. Took it to my mechanic and the codes said the same thing as at the dealer.they fixed it again. Drove it 2 months and did the same thing. Sat at the mechanics yard over weekend and cleared the codes. Couldn't find anything wrong. Today with my grandson it happened again. Don't know what to do. This van has 47,000 miles and is very unreliable. I bought it used so warranty is over. Seems as i read how many have had this same thing happen there should be some kind of recall or honor by the ford company. This could end deadly in alot of traffic. Just wonder if we have to wait until someone is killed to do something.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated when they used the jack to lift the vehicle and change the tire, the jack snapped in half. This was the first time that the jack was used and it was the original jack that came with the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was 89,000. Updated 05/26/11 updated 2/8/12
Dt: on august 25, 2005 the gas tank was leaking gasoline.the gas tank has been replaced andthe consumer had to pay out of pocket althoughthere was a warranty on the vehicle. Onecould smell gasoline coming from the vehicle and it was pouring out.however, the gas gauge did not move. Had to have the vehicle towed, and the fire department and police department came out. There was so much gasoline that they came out and put some type of dirt over the gasoline.
My van was towed to the local ford garage where we bought 5 years ago this past saturday. I was told today the problem is in the torque converter or transmission. I just found out there was a lawsuit brought upon ford because of transmission related problems in 2005 monterey's. Just a brife review shows me there are hundreds of people experiancing the same problems as i am.i also believe nhtsa investigated this problem. What bothers me the most is that i just got done paying this car off and the low mileage at the time offailure. What are my options to get relief ? should i phone the attorneys who handled the original case? can you give any other information such as others who my have also filed complaints similar to mine?
2005 mercury monterey van.consumer writes in regards to transmission recall notice and unsatisfactory customer service at dealership.the consumer stated the recall was performed on september 27, 2012. However, on january 7, 2013, the consumer experienced a problem with forward hesitation, and the inability to back up. The service department determined the problem was electrical and installed a new battery, among other repairs, with a final bill of $235.00. On january 25, 2013, the consumer experienced the same problem again. The service department installed a new turbine speed sensor. Six days later, after the turbine was installed, the consumer experienced the problem again. The vehicle was inspected, and the dealer determined the transmission needed to replaced.
I was driving vehicle (van) on a busy road and the rpm gage suddenly surged but the vehicle lost all power.i had to coast the van to the side of the road.i turned off the van and restarted it.the van would not engage in drive or reverse.i could not move the van and called for a tow truck.the van had been working perfectly.no loud noises or any difficulty shifting during or prior to the transmission failure.the transmission had to be replaced with a power train, and new torque converter by aamco for $3,008.52i understand a complaint is already under investigation action #ea09019there was not any fluid leaking all the damage was internal.
For about 3 weeks the car shuttered between 40 and 50 mph. Then, while driving on a busy road traveling about 45 miles per hour, i began to lose power, the rpm's jumped erratically, and the transaxle light started flashing. I took the car to wiiliamsburg ford (dealership) and they did a diagnostic that indicated a transmission problem 3rd and 4th gear. I contacted ford as there was a torque convertor recall because of afaulty part causing damage to the transmission. They said the torque convertor was replaced in aug. Of 2012 by the previous owner under the recall. If that corrected the problem the transmission should not have failed at 70000 miles. The torque convertor most likely damaged the transmission before it was replaced and shortened the life. Ford is telling me that they will not cover this since the torque convertor was replaced but this should not have happened if it was done correctly.
We had no previous problems or incidents. We were traveling a major highway i-86 going towards jamestown. Our van geared up real quick and we lost all acceleration. No warning we are thankful there was no car behind us or beside so we could safely get to the side of the road! it was a very scary feeling. We were told by the ford garage that we had to be towed that is was the torque converter. I see there has been alot of these going bad. We had no warranty left so we are stuck with a hefty bill for something that should have been recalled!!!!!!
You'll be driving down the street or highway and it all of sudden it loses power and the light that means transaxle problem has been detected and shifting may be restricted. Have system services immediately if light remains on. I looked it up with my vin number and i know there is a recall due to this problem. I looked it up on a site and it said it hadn't been fixed and i called one dealership and they said they don't see where it had been fixed either. Then all of sudden when i discover another dealership that is closer to me a couple days later and decided to call them to see if they could get me in instead of the first dealership cause it was closer to my house they all of sudden say it was already had been fixed back in 2012. Which is bull cause i looked it up on a site and it said it hadn't and the first dealership also said it hadn't but now two or thee says later it's strangely in the system when i call the second dealershipthat i called cause it was closer. That is very strange and ironic that all of sudden it's now in system that it's been repaired.
The torque converter goes bad on my van every 35,000 miles. There is no warning sign that the part will fail.the van has stranded me twice now in freezing temperatures with my children in the vehicle because all of a sudden it will just not go anywhere.there is never any noise or any indication of a problem until the vehicle just stops moving.ford just keeps replacing the torque converter.the vehicle i have now is working on it's third torque converter in 71,000 miles of use.
Our torque converter/transmission failed on our 2005 monterey. My wife was driving the vehicle on route 1 in edison, nj and it lost all gears. I called for emergency towing (it was a saturday evening 4/21) and had it brought to a repair shop. I went to ford's web site to see if there was a recall. I entered the vin and no recall showed up. None. So, i proceeded to have the repair shop start to work on it on (4/23). Now i find that there is a recall (4/26) via a shady, intentionally misleading email from ford. Ford's customer service has been evasive and not helpful. They told me that later in the year torque converters would be available for the replacement, but mine has unfortunately already failed. Furthermore, if we had known that there was a recall, we would have had it towed to a ford dealer, not a local service shop. But their web site specifically said that no recall existed for the vehicle. We now have a vehicle 90 miles away from our home in a repair shop that is going to need major work and the van only has 68,000 miles on it. Ford has failed to help us with this. We have 5 children and this is our only family vehicle. They sold a faulty product, acknowledged it and still will not help us with it.
My wife was leaving work, when she attempted to drive her van home the van would not go into gear and kept stalling. I just thank god that this didn't happen while she was on the interstate. She works part time for a ford dealer and we were able to roll the van around to the service area. Three days later the service writer notified us that it was a defective pcm module. Apparently there is a known defect that because of a design flaw water is able to drip onto the control module thus shorting it out and rendering the car useless. I read several complaints on line as well as discovering that ford knows about this condition and even has a tsb out concerning this situation. I called ford and explained what happened and even mentioned the known tsb. They were not very sympathetic and would do nothing to help me out. When i said i was going to file a complaint with the nhtsa they invited me to do so. The needed repair is going to run me roughly 800.00 dollars to fix. I have to put out my hard earned money to fix something that ford is aware of by the existence of their own tsb. I do not feel i should be financially responsible for ford's mistake, the dealer should have offered to fix it for free regardless of being out of warranty. We have been very inconvenienced by this being one car down. There are seven fords in our family and i have owned fords all my life.i previously lost a lot of money on a 99 windstarthat lost it's transmission at 80k. I will more then likely buy another ford but i have to say that i am toying with the idea of switching to another brand, one that stands behind their product instead of turning their backs on a loyal customer. Other manufactures offer 100k or ten year warranties, why can't ford?i firmly believe that myself along with others with this same problem should be compensated by ford, they are clearly negligent in this situation.
My 2005 mercury monterey shut down while i was traveling at 65 in heavy traffic.after getting off the highway and restarting it,the transmission shifted hard and the engine missed.
I was stopped at a four way stop sign in my 2005 mercury monterey. Just as i pressed on the gas to move through the intersection, the transmission let go.i was fortunate that i could coast out of harms way. The car is now immoblie. This is the second catastrophic transmission failure on this vehicle.transmission failed in july 2012 at 109k miles. Car was repaired according to ford specifications. Second failure on 11-8-2016 at 170k miles.without warning the transmission disengages and the car does not move forward.a second failure related to the same issue 60k miles after the defect was allegedly corrected is unacceptable.
My 2005 mercury monterey will 66,765 miles on it will not engage the transmission.you can put it in forward, reverse, or any other gear and it does not have the normal feel that any engagement happened.and when you let off the brake it does not move and when you give it some gas it does not move.it does not matter which gear it is in either.the car made it home with out any notice of the problem but the next day when i wanted to back out of the garage the transmission is totally gone. From research i know i'm going to hear that the torque converter output shaft splines are stripped causing a sudden loss of power to the drive-train.
My van began to lose power at certain speeds, almost skipping at times.i took the van to my personal mechanic, whom investigated the issue for 4 days, and ruled out the engine,he stated that it was the transmission.a few days later, i received a recall notice from ford informing me that the vehicle was coming under recall for the torque converter.approximately 3 weeks ago, i took the vehicle to the ford dealership and asked them to investigate.the dealership opened at 7 am, and when they called me at 7:29 am, they swore it was not the transmission.they claimed it was the motor and could not pin point any specific reason as to why.then they claimed that the #6 plug was misfiring 16% of the time??i consulted with my mechanic and he stated very clearly that if that was true, my check engine light would come on and stay on.it has not.the vehicle continues to worsen every day with the skipping or stuttering.im now only getting 13 mpg whether in town or on the highway.i don't know whether to take it to a transmission specialist to confirm or not. Apparently, from what i have researched, ford does not want to honor their recall, and is using the scape goat, " your vehicle is out of warranty, so you have to pay. "
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated while driving 35 mph the vehicle suddenly decelerated until it came to a halt without any warning. The contact was unable to drive the vehicle or shift gears. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the torque converter was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offered any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 60,000.
Driving n-i 275 suddenly lost power and had to cross 4 lanes to safety shoulder without causing an accident. Called husband to pick me up to take me to work. Then he had to meet tow truck and drive to dealer to repair van. To make a short detail of all the problems (this problem has happened 3 times since the first time ) (lost time from work ) (towing charges) (paying all for repairs ) (rental cars) (time spent to pick-up van, waiting for road services).then told by ford motor that most charges won't be covered.
I submitted a complaint on this vehicle about two weeks ago. I wanted to add some additional information. Just to recap: this 2005 mercury monterey was recalled in 2012 for the torque convertor. The job was completed at a dealership by the previous owner when it had less than 30000 miles. The transmission went out again at 70000 miles. Traveling down a busy road i lost power and could not accelerate over 30mph and the rpm's jumped erratically and the transaxle light came on. Towed it to the dealer that confirmed it was the transmission and then towed it to a transmission specialist. They said the transmission was shot and replaced the following parts: master oh kit, band, piston, servo, torque convertor. The total cost was $1814.00. The mechanic confirmed that this should not have happened at 70000 miles and just a few years after the recall. The original torque convertor must have done more damage than what was repaired in 2012. I feel that ford should pay for the transmission rebuild as it is obviously a result of the original recall.
Vehicle exhibited no transmission issues and was driving completely fine with no warning lights.i was entering the on ramp to i-95 when the car stopped accelerating when it should have shifted to second gear.when i pulled the vehicle over it acted like it was in neutral no matter what gear it was actually in.this could have been a horrible accident if it happened while i was on the interstate.
We were driving along a main highway when suddenly, without any warning at all, it was like the vehicle slipped into neutral and would no longer move - on the highway! we had our 2 young children in the car and were fortunately able to get it to the side of the road without a safety incident. We were 50 miles from home, had to have it towed to a dealer nearly 20 minutes away. Our diagnosis on the car was that the torque converter on the transmission failed. The dealer mentioned that he had seen this quite a bit on a few models with the same component, but when i questioned him on his comment he backtracked and said he shouldn't have said that. He told us it would take at least 3-4 days to repair and since we were far from home, we were stuck in another city with no transportation (as they wouldn't give us a loaner). Seeing our distress and knowing we were in a bad situation, he later offered to put 2 guys working on it to get it done by the end of the day. As we were in a strange town with a 4 and 6 year old (and we were on our way to celebrate the 6yr birthday), we were forced to rent a car if we didn't want to keep them in a ford dealership for the next 6 hours. When we returned to pick up the car, the service dept did pick up the tab on the rental car. Our final bill was $1,786.15 and a complete distrust of our ford product. We no longer feel particularly safe in the vehicle or w/our kids in the vehicle, especially after reading all the others that had similar problems to this and beyond. However, we are not in a position to buy a new vehicle and would like ford to take responsibility for something that seems an obvious defective design and/or manufacturing defect with their product. Peoples lives are at risk here - we are lucky we weren't hit from behind on the hwy when it suddenly lost power! lucky!! be responsible and do right by your customers ford!
While driving on a busy road i started to lose power and could not go over 30 mph. I coasted home and had to call a tow to the dealership, williamsburg ford. The dealer confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. There had been a recall on this vehicle in 2012 for the torque converter which was replaced by the previous owner. However, it is obvious that the damage was already done and the transmission went out at 70000 miles which should not happen on any car. I sent you an email previously on this issue and have not heard back. I called ford and they said they wouldn't do anything about it. This is not right and something should be done. They should stand behind their product when it comes to safety.
Please see attached letter and invoice.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the engine misfired and caused the vehicle to be jolted forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. After diagnosis, they advised him that water was entering the pcm and causing the failure. The vehicle was repaired by the pcm being resealed at the connector. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The current mileage was approximately 65,000. The vin was unavailable.
I was driving off of an exit ramp onto a secondary road, had just made the turn and was beginning to accelerate when the van completely lost its "pull" and would not go into gear. The electrical system still functioned fine, and the engine would rev, but the vehicle would not go. There were no warning signs whatsoever prior to the complete loss of pull. This situation was very concerning because had i been performing another action like crossing a 4 lane highway, i could have easily been hit. Additionally, with only 65,000 miles on the vehicle, i feel that this failure must be a defect in the transmission as there has not been a sufficient amount of wear and tear on the vehicle to justify this level of repair. (my in-laws purchased the vehicle new and were both conservative drivers and i am a mother of two small children and also tend to be a very conservative driver so the vehicle has not been exposed to any rough driving conditions.) i had the vehicle towed to a transmission shop where they indicated that there was an internal problem with the transmission and it would have to be rebuilt at a cost of approximately $1,800. I am reporting this because i am concerned that the sudden loss of power could cause an accident and i want other mercury monterey owners to be aware of this possibility.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that the gears failed to shift into drive and reverse without warning. The wheels spun when the failure occurred. In addition, the transmission was replaced prior to the failure by bill estes ford (450 n northfield dr, brownsburg, in 46112, (317) 852-2231). The failure continued and was taken back to the dealer for further diagnostic testing. The dealer stated that a manufacturer recall had been performed and provided no solution other than stating that the torque converter may need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, indicated that a recall had already been performed, and recommended the vehicle be taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and repair. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that while slowing down the vehicle would not accelerate when pressing the accelerator pedal and while switching gears the vehicle would lunge forward. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and the local dealer forsom lake ford (12755 folsom blvd, forsom lake ca.) was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 124,000.
Transmission would not go into reverse in driveway.turned vehicle off and restarted and it went into reverese. I then put in forward gear and as i am driving down road the vehicle dies. No issue with shifting before today.if i put the vehicle in neutral the rpm goes up to 2000.i called ford today with vin # and they told me this vehicle has been fixed per safety recall11s25 supplement #1. Vehicle is full of fluid and fluid does not have a burnt smell.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey.while driving 55 mph, the contact stated that vehicle lost complete power and stalled. The dealer diagnosed that the torque converter failed.the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 88,000.
I have a 2005 mercury monterey with over 100k miles. Last year i had to have the transmission replaced. Bought new in 2005 from greensboro nc gate city lincoln mercury dealership which is now closed. Now i have problems with van surging forward and cutting off. Will not change gears right. It jerks when the problem happens. Loud noise comes from the engine compartment after van is started up as well van will cutoff while on the road but will restart. No codes are showing. Not sure what is happening. So far no problem has been found. Is it the torque converter, the transmission? i need help!
I have owned the mercury montery for six years and have had nothing but problems.the biggest problem is a torque converter that has been replaced.fortunately, i was traveling from north florida in 2009 when the van suddenly just stopped accelerating...i had to coast to the side of the interstate...with two other women in the car beside myself.the van had to be towed and a torque converted replaced.the second incident...same thing different location.i was reimbursed for thetorque converter last year de to a recall...however, now it has a major problem of not accelerating....after sometimes 30 mph and 70 mph....i have to let off the gas and hit it again....this is continuous ...very frustrating...very costly...and very dangerous issue..that is my most important point...very dangerous...it just stops without notice! i would like to know what can be done to fix this problem without me absorbing the cost...as it is very obvious ...this is a faulty, dangerous vehicle! please ....please contact me to inform me of what can be done.i have less than a year of payments on this vehicle...and at this point don't feel safe driving long distance or anywhere else in the van.
My wife was driving home with my three year old son when our mercury monterey lost all power and could not accelerate. This left my wife & son stranded on the side of the road. Now after doing a little research i have learned this is a very common problem with the 2004 - 2005 ford/mercury minivans. I am extremely upset with ford motor co. This should have been brought to our attention when we purchased the van from the ford dealership. I went to the ford dealership because i thought i could trust them to buy a safe vehicle for my family. I guess i was wrong & all they are concerned with is selling cars, it doesn't matter to them if they are safe or not.if there is any information of ford covering the repairs on these vehicles please let me know. Times are tough & i really can't afford to replace the transmission in this van.
My wife and i had driven over to melbourne, fl on oct. 15 to attend grandson's wedding oct. 16.due to my parkinson's disease my wife was driving us around the area on sunday to see things since we used to live in melbourne.right in front of our old church the van just stopped its forward motion and we were barely able to get to the side of the 3-lane road.a policeman directing church traffic pushed us off the busy road where we awaited tow truck.since it was sunday no repair shop was open so tow truck dropped off van in repair shop parking lot and then took us back to our motel where we tried to get a rental car but rental car places also closed and we had to wait until monday to get one.had to order in pizza for dinner.we had to add two more nights to our motel stay, had cost of rental car for that time and the transmission cost us $2238.11.if this problem had occurred the day of the wedding we would have been in danger because we had to travel from cocoa beach back to melbourne motel at 11:00 at night on i-95.sudden loss of power in that scenerio could have ended up being tragic.
Vehicle had sudden loss of motive power while driving straight and accelerating to 60mph highway speeds, almost causing multi-car accident. After coasting to shoulder, the transmission would not engage in any forwardor reverse gear. This serious safety defect could have lead to the death of myself and my family of five. Towed vehicle to the local dealership who told us they were aware of a recall for the 2005 mercury monterey regarding that issue and ford's recall campaign number is 11s25. The recall described this exact failure. ("summary: ford is recalling certain model year 2004 and 2005 ford freestar and mercury monterey vehicles. The torque converter output shaft may fail.") however, after they entered the vin number for my vehicle, they said the recall was not extended to that vehicle. That is wrong since this is a serious safety issue and would cause injury or death.
We were traveling normally when suddenly all motive force was lost.the engine ran normally, but vehicle would not proceed under power.it was as if the vehicle was in neutral. The vehicle would not proceed under any power either forward or reverse.there was absolutely no warning of the power train failure.
2005 mercury monterey, transmission sudden failure while wife was driving the vehicle.the vehicle has 34,000 miles on it.ford refused any repairs citing it was 8 months out of warranty.it would appear this is a very common problem for ford and they have chosen to not address it for their customers.this does seem to be a significant safety risk although we were fortunate to be able to steer the vehicle into a safe place and then have it towed.
While leaving a parking lot the vehicle came to a stop without any warning.the engine was running but the vehicle would not move in any gear.the local dealer towed in the van and had to replace the torque convertor.ford motor company did not contact me and warn me that they were aware of this problem.this is a dangerous defect and all owners of this vehicle need to be warned before someone is killed.
2005 mercury monterey. Consumer states vehicle lost complete power while driving *tgwthe consumer was informed the torque converter and the input shaft were a huge problem on his vehicle and the parts were inferior. A mechanic stated, the part was made of aluminum which could not withstand the pressure in which it was loaded.
2005 mercury monterey transmission failure.
On july 23th 2010, i was driving my 2005 mercury monterey up an incline then all of a sudden the vehicle went to a brief acceleration. I let go of the acceleration pedal , then went to accelerate again, i had no power.the engine would rev but it was not engaged to the transmission.luckily i was a able to coast down the hill and pull off to a safe spot.i had the vehicle towed and was told the transmission had went.ihad the ford dealership install a new transmission in the vehicle. The vehicle had 55,000 miles on it.the vehicle before then showed no signs of transmission trouble.after further research i noticed there has been multiple complaints regarding the same issue.
Please add me to your already long list of people begging for a recall on the 2005 mercury monterey transmission issues.
Driving on i35 at 75 miles per hour with the cruise control engaged.i had been driving for approximately 2 hours.the car engine just started racing with no warning, i took the cruise off and had lost all ability to move forward or reverse.i had the entire family in the car.i am 800 miles from home and it will be 2 days for the fix.they estimate approximately $1800.the van is less than 3 years old and has 47,000 miles.this is hazardous and i can not believe that ford does not recognize this as just doing and internet search on this these transmissions seem to fail around the 45k mark with no warning at all.i am currently stranded and hope that the fix will be done tomorrow.
Re: 2005 mercury monterey transmission.as noted in other posts, my wife was traveling to work at 6:15 in the morning (dark), heard a strange sound and immediately the cars systems all stopped and she struggled to get it to the side of the road.aaa towed the car to a well known a reputable repair service and they were able to very quickly diagnose a complete transmission failure.estimated cost of the repair was $2500-3000.dealer cost before discounts was $3795 down to $2217.dealer, fiesta lincoln mercury in mesa, az. Refuses to acknowledge that this is a known serious issue.mileage on the vehicle is 40,292.as is so with many others, i am in no position to lay out that kind of money, so vehicle is sitting in our driveway.i understand that investigations like this can take some time, but we are dealing not only with a significant repair issue and a safety issue.i find it amazing that no one has been hurt or killed when their vehicle fails in the middle of a freeway.
I was driving a 2005 mercury monterey minivan and lost power. The engine continues to run but i cannot go anywhere.this has not happened with this vehicle before.have not replaced anything yet, as this just happened today - easter sunday april 24, 2011.
Driving my mercury monterey when suddenly there was no transmission.the dealer states a new transmission is required for 4500.
2005 mercury monterey 4.2 l automatic transmission - transmission stopped pulling while driving over railroad tracks - coasted to parking lot.
Transmission failure without warning on my 2005 mercury monterey van. This car was well maintained. Transmission fluid level was found to be okay. Torque converter failed. I was parked at the time at university parking lot where i work. Started engine, no noise or indication on electronic warning system, and when put into gear the system simply was in neutral. Had to have vehicle towed to dealers where they did the repair. They also noted no apparent indications that this was problem as they noted if there was recall that i should keep my bill and that should be covered. It was lucky that this occurred when it did as i usually travel freeway home at rush hour. No accident or other event from the occurrence - which was also a blessing. I have been a ford owner for many years and was surprised by this failure. Upon searching the internet i noted that other 2005 montereys were also showing same problem and that nhtsa was doing a study, so i felt it was important to let you know of this problem. I can imagine that this would be very unsafe if the failure had occurred when driving. Car is now repaired and appears to be in proper working order.
My wife was driving on sr528 at night in our 2005 mercury monterey coming home from work.while driving over the indian river bridge, the engine revved up on her and acted like it was in neutral.there was no warning whatsoever which placed her in a very dangerous situation.every gear (reverse, d, 3, 1) acts like it's in neutral.now the minivan is sitting at a gas station while we wait to find out the cost of repair.the van has 57000 miles and we've had it less than 3 years.this is apparently a common failure happening with the 2004 and 2005 ford/mercury minivans.is ford waiting for someone to get hurt or even worse before they do something?i'm extremely disappointed being a 7 time ford purchaser.
Transmission failure of our 2005 mercury monterey mini-van with only 66,000 miles on itleft my wife and kids stranded on a dirt road in the country far from the city. We got the van fixed and the new transmission went out again 8000 miles later. Ford needs to recall these transmissions before someone gets hurt.
2005 mercury monterey van...transmission failed driving away from stop sign, no power to wheels.the transmission fluid was changed 6 weeks ago during normal fluid maintenance.mostly highway miles since taking ownership.car had to be towed to ford dealer. They have just called and said transmission has no pressure & needs a new torque converter & seal kit.bought this car w/ 8400 miles and now has only 53,000 in 4 years with regular service and oil changes. Estimated repair time 2 days @ approx. $ 1020.00.
Driving down route 3 virginia...car stopped having forward propulsion.had to have it towed 65 dollars. And then to shop..they are saying 3500 + for replacement. Transmission- needed at less then 65,000 miles.
We have a 2005 mercury monterey van. I have read numerous reports regarding transmission failures in which the us government has failed to react to. It happened to my wife and i on sunday, june 21, 2010 at approximately 9pm while traveling on a busy 4 lane road. We were proceeding home and the transmission completely dis-engaged leaving us powerless in the left lane of the road. Fortunately we were able to avoid traffic and safely get the vehicle off the road. What i don't understand is the neglect associated with this defect as i have read numerous reports of families put in harm's way with the associated transmission problems that the nhtsa and ford are aware of. Have eyes been turned because this is an american company? you guys jumped all over toyota for problems. I expect an answer!
I purchased a used 2005 mercury monterey on january 22nd 2011. During test drive it felt great. Two days later i am feeling a jerking when taking off from a dead stop. I starting checking on line to see if there are problems with this vehicle. I was shocked to find over two hundred complaints of transmission failure! why is it with so many similar incidents or problems that no one is doing anything about it?
I was driving on interstate 75 at approximately 70 mph.without warning i heard a loud whining noise and i had no forward power.i somehow was able to steer the car to the side of the road.i required a tow and am being told that the transmission is gone, costing over $3000 to repair.i now know that numerous reports of sudden transmission failure have been made.i believe i should have been made aware of this problem.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. While driving at approximately 30 mph during rainy and snowy weather conditions, the vehicle suddenly lost power. He had to take his foot off the brake and roll backward to get into the emergency lane. The vehicle was then towed to a dealership where it was located at the time of the complaint. The dealer advised the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact had not called the manufacturer in regards to the failure. The contact is unable to provide a vehicle identification number at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were approximately 54,000.
2005 mercury montereyvehicle lost propulsion while traveling down the road in drive.would not move in drive or reverse. No warning or previous signs of ensuing failure.van is en route to dealer for diagnosis.van has less than 50,000 miles on it.we were very lucky that the failure occurred on a roadway that enabled us to pull out of harms way. Four women passengers were able to push the vehicle into a parking lot for hauler to pickup.waiting for word from the dealer on course of action.
As per your website defect investigations. My 2005 mercury monterey i was driving on the freeway at 65 mph and all of a sudden the engine rpm rose up rapidly. I at first thought there was a problem with the cruise control. But no it was the transmission. As your investigation shows it was a stripped output shaft and the torque converter. I am having it repaired today. I would like to know if ford is doing anything about this problem ??? my vehicle has only 69,000 miles on it. I am the original owner. Thank you
Driving down the highway at a speed of 55 mph when my transmission just failed.i had no gears (forward or reverse) and had the van towed to the repair shop.the vehicle is a 2005 mercury monterey with about 81,000 miles.
Took the kids to the movies and drove around town for a good part of the day.about an hour after getting home i had to go to the store i got into the van and started the engine the rpm's went up to about 4k.i backed out of the driveway and put the van into drive.the rpm's went up again to about 4k again.after driving for about 20 feet the van lost power, then engine was still on but the van would not move.i stepped on the gas and the engine turned off.per the ford dealer it appears to be a transmission problem that is currently being investigated and might not be covered by my extended warranty.
Driving down the road and lost all power to front wheels. Fluid levels good. Fluid not burnt or discolored.
2005 mercury monterey torque converter shaft failure resulting in sudden loss of power on freeway, without warning.
At 105000 miles the transmission on my 2005 mercury monterey van quit on i-80 cruising at 70mph...for no reason the vehicle lost power and would not accelerate...had to be towed to shop and am told $3000 in repairs..ford has known about this bad transmission for 5 years and nothing has been done....why??? i now discover that several hundred people have filed the same complaint and as many as 205,000 vehicles may have this problem which i understand is a possible bad torque converter shaft....i am really upset with ford as this the 4th vehicle i have purchased from them with faulty transmissions....
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the rpms went higher than normal. She was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road but could not steer or move after that. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed her that she needed to replace the transmission. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
With no warning, the transmission will go out leaving the vehicle unable to drive.i had to have the transmission replaced. This is a known issue with these minivans.
On feb 7, 2011,after exiting i10, i stopped my 2005 monterey van at my grandson's home. As i restarted i backed out and switched to forward gear. As i pressed the accelerator, nothing happened. I tried all gears and same result. Checking google, i found out that this has happenedto thousands of 2005 monterey vans and mercury/ford has done nothing to rectify this major problem with the transmission. My dealership quoted me a price of over$2,100 to fix. I believe that this is ford's bill and i shouldn't be responsiible for their extremely poor engineering.
Our 2005 mercury monterey's transmission stopped working as my wife and 4 kids were driving on a busy kansas city highway. She had vehicles behind her in front and to the side of her, now she was coasting on a 70mph highway trying to find a way to get to the shoulder with 2 kids crying and 2 yelling why are you stopping in the middle of the road. With cars swerving all around her, luckily she did make it. Now they aresitting in the van just barely off the highway for 2 hours with cars just feet away driving 70-80mph.i have to borrowanother vehicle large enough to go get them, because we all can't fit in my truck. Now i'm parked behind them with flashers on trying to unload 4 kids and car seats ages 1 to 10, with cars driving by 70 to 80mph. I get them home safely. I have it towed to ford dealership they charge me 160.00 just to tell me it has a bad transmission, output shaft or torque converter, and to fix it would be 3,000, i ask the service manager if this is a common problem, and he said no. Well as far as i'm concerned he just flat out lied. Now we all know the truth. This should be a safety recall now!!!!!
We were driving our 2005 mercury monterey minivan about 45 mph on a fairly busy street when the car began losing speed.my husband thought maybe the car had slipped into neutral so he downshifted from drive to 3 but still no power.he tried lower gears and he stepped on the gas several times.the tachometer responded but the car would not accelerate or go into any gear.we were fortunate enough to be able to coast to a nearby parking lot without being struck but the car would not go into any gear.it was like the transmission totally failed.no warning lights, no noises, nothing alerted us that the transmission was about to fail.it was a little frightening and very frustrating.
Transmission failure. The van started making noises that was coming from the engine compartment. The transmission light then came on and the van started acting like it would not go. Had to basically coast to get the van back home and the transmission light stayed on. Check the fluid and it has not lost any transmission fluid. The transmission is failing.
I was pulling out of a gas station driveway in my 2005 mercury monterey minivan onto a main two-way road. I did not have to punch the gas to merge into traffic, it wasn't busy. As i accelerated across one lane of traffic and a turn lane, my vehicle lost forward motion. The engine functioned properly -- no safety or warning lights came on -- and i heard no thunk, clunk, grinding or other noise as i coasted to a stop in the turn lane. I shifted the vehicle numerous times into various gears (r, d, 3 and 1) but still the minivan would not move. I turned the engine off and on, tried again, but no movement. Again, i tried in all the gears, but the vehicle would not move. I repeated this a second time with no success in getting the vehicle to shift into any gear. Stuck, i called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to a mechanic. This incident made me recall a comment a service manager made to me a couple of years ago at the lincoln-mercury dealer where i bought my monterey and was getting it serviced. As we were test driving the minivan to try to replicate a sound the vehicle was making when it was driving the service manager commented that ford was having trouble with transmissions. But he quickly added that it was did not affect my particular make and model. I wonder, though, about that comment since i only have about 56,000 miles on the vehicle. Clearly, the company had alerted service departments to be on the lookout for a potential transmission problem on some vehicles similar to mine. Prior to this incident, i've never experienced a problem with the drivetrain. Still, a problem such as this one should not crop up or the transmission go bad on a vehicle that is only four years old and has only 56,000 miles on it.
I recently purchased a 2005 mercury monterey mini-van with 45,000 miles.it now has 47500 miles and i have been told it needs a torque converter to repair the transmission. I was driving at approx 35 miles per hour when the van completely lost forward motion.the engine was running, there wasn't any noise, service lights or fluid leakage.the car simply had no gears. We had no prior warning, the car had never had any hesitation, jerking or any signs of distress. Thankfully we had just pulled off the interstate. We pulled off the road into a parking lot where we coasted to a stop.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey and while drivign 60 mph the transmission failed. The failure only happened once. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. The failure miles were 74382 and 75301 are the current miles.
Transmission issues, will just go out while driving down the freeway! engine will then shut off leaving me without anyway to steer or brake!
My wife was backing out of a parking space at her job.she then put the vehicle in gear and it would not move.the transmission quit working without warning.there were no warning lights or any sign of a problem prior to the incident.vehicle had to be towed to dealership.
While driving way back home from work the transmission failed all of sudden causing me stranded on the middle of highway during heavy rush traffic hours.end up spending $175.00 for towing and when called the next day to ford dealer and mercury dealership was approximately $3500.00 to $4500.00.repaired the transmission from other transmission shop spending $2500.00.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle began stuttering and shifting hard. The vehicle was taken to a transmission center where the contact was informed that the failure was caused by the automatic transmission which needed to be replaced. The mechanic pulled the pan from the transmission and found copper shavings attached to the magnet area. The vehicle was repaired at the transmission center. When the contact called the manufacturer, he was told that he was responsible for the repair costs. The failure mileage was 89,048.
I was driving my 2005 mercury monterey van home and about 20 miles away from my house it was driving fine and than without any signs or warning at all i lost all acceleration i had to pull off the side of the road no cell phone coverage finally someone came along and i got it towed back home, that is the first time i ever had a problem with the transmission ford lincoln mercury said it was the torque converter i bareley hit 50,000 miles when this happened now it wont go in drive reverse or anything just happened all at one alot of people are having this problem i was reading about 100's online now mercury wants 1000.00 to replace the torque converter when it is a defect in alot of there vans and that's not right its not like i'm the only person this has happened to i'm just glad i was far out of town like alot of people that has had this happen to them without warning sitting at a redlight and going down the interstate i paid 38,000 dollars for the van and still owe half its not right that mercury wants the consumers to pay for the defect car company's aren't the only ones struggling.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph, and when the accelerator pedal was applied the transmission would not respond. The vehicle was towed to the residence where a certified mechanic inspected the vehicle. The failure was related to the torque converter. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000. Updated 01/31/11updated 03/16/11
I have a 2005 mercury monterey minivan.when the incident happened in september 2009, it had 87,728 miles (based on repair bill dated 9/16/2009). On that september, 2009 evening, i was driving on us 27, and was coming up on a slight hill, and all of a sudden without any warning sign, i lost acceleration.i couldn't even make a turn to a side rode, it just stopped! later a police car pulled over, and helped me to push my van to the side.i had the van towed to the dealer, and was told that my torque converter assembly needed to be replaced, and it cost me $2000!however, ever since i took my van back, every now and then, after i stopped at the red light, i have trouble to accelerate.when i accelerate, the transmission acts like it's at neutral, and the rpm would shoot up, and the van jolt forward.i have to let my foot up and then gently press several times for the van to slowly gain speed while all other cars just have to drive around to pass me.and when this happens, it felt almost like last september, and i worried the van will quit on me again.i had take the van back to the dealer twice for them to investigate this problem, but both time they said they could not duplicate the problem, so nothing could be done.(it's true that it doesn't happen all the time, it's kind of unpredictable).i'm kind of scared of driving this van, because i don't know when it will just stop right in middle of road again.
The contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly began to decelerate, befor stalling. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. After the repairs, the vehicle stalled a second time and was towed to a mechanic. The vehicle was again repaired. There was an open investigation under nhtsa action number: ea09016 (power train:automatic transmission power train:automatic transmission:torque converter) that may be related to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,500. The vin was unavailable.
I have a mercury monterey which nearly got mywife and i killed by a rear-end collision. It just all of a sudden died no power nothing just like all these other complaints of transmissions malfunctions. I am on social security and need my vehicle i stopped my daughter in law from driving it she has 4 children and her some where losing power with those children is not a good thing i will go visit the mercury dealership this week to see what they say.i still owe 2 years of payments on this vehicle and can not afford to buy another vehicle.
The torque converter went out on my 2005 mercury monterey van.this happened after reporting transmission issues to both hastings ford and whitaker lincoln mercury several times since 8/22/2005, which was the purchase date of my van.when the torque converter went out, i was driving approximately 40 mph.without warning, the van lost power and it seemed like i was driving in neutral.the van would not move in drive or reverse.i had to coast to the shoulder where a couple of guys then had to push the van so that it was out of harms way.after having the van towed to hastings ford and doing a little research, i'm now finding that many other 2005 mercury monterey vans have experienced the same problem as my van.it was interesting and a little odd to me that the mechanic was able to diagnose the problem without having to take anything apart.this to me now indicates that ford is well aware of the problem.i find it very disappointing that hastings ford did not mention any of this to me before they started servicing the van.my main complaint is that i do not feel that i should have to pay for fixing this problem since i have reported and documented transmission problems several times, many of which were well within the warranty period.my other complaint is that ford seems to be doing nothing about this potentially very dangerous problem.it was a very unsafe situation that i was in when i totally lost power.i was on a slight incline when my problem happened.i was fortunate to have enough power to coast close enough to the shoulder of the road.i hate to think if i was going highway speeds and i needed to get over multiple lanes to a shoulder or a safe part of the road.
I drove my 2005 mercury monterey to take my daughter to school this morning and came right home. About two hours later, had to leave and started car. I put car into reverse and nothing happened. Without any warning what so ever, my car no longer appears to have a working transmission. No matter what gear it is in, nothing at all happens. Car has just been towed to mechanic to be looked at first thing in the morning. Car has just over 53,000 miles. After reading the numerous other victims of this transmission problem, i am thankful it at least happened at my own home rather than being out somewhere with my kids in tow - or worse off while driving!still doesn't make this any better of a situation to be dealing with.
Driving on a flat residential road at 30 mph my minivan lost power.the engine continued to run and the van rolled to a stop on the side of the road.the transmission would not engage forward or reverse.the van was towed to a repair shop and the estimate for the repair is $3000.old parts are available.

I am the owner of a 2005 mercury monterey with 45,700 miles.i have an extended warranty policy which expires this summer.the problem i have been experiencing the past couple of years has been the right side sliding door which does not perform properly at times.on occasion when depressing the door "open button" on the upper console, it starts to open and then after opening approximately 15 inches, it closes on its own as passengers start to either exit or enter the back seat.past discussions with the dealership have not resulted in fixing the problem. They insist that they cant do anything until i could demonstrate the problem.needless to say, the door operated properly on those occasions. On 10/11/10 i finally had them run diagnostics to see if they could find a coding problem.nothing was found and i was again told i would have to demonstrate the problem.last evening while a passenger was trying to enter the vehicle through the right sliding door which i activated, it twice in a row closed on her.i find this unacceptable and consider this a safety issue.an email from ford customer relations on 6/6/10 suggested i deal with the dealer service manager.it would be up to him to evaluate as to any coverage available which that would cover any repair.today i took the vehicle to deland ford in deland, florida to discuss the problem with the service manager.as in the past at the dealership, the door operated properly.i pointed this out as a safety issue and asked that the entire sensor system be replaced.his response was unless a sensor was found to be defective, the warranty would not cover the charges.when i asked him if the door could do any damage if it closed on a finger, his response was it would pinch and hurt but not do any permanent damage.i am requesting your assistance in solving this problem.this is an unacceptable safety issue.
